Ed, How many players do you think we will sign in January? I personally think we need a goalkeeper, left back, centre back, attacking midfielder, winger, striker. I would sign butland, martin olsson, Pearce, sneijder, Walcott, Sturridge.

What you think?

Frankie7 {Ed002's Note - I would think a couple will arrive Frankie.}

Maybe 1 or 2 forwards in Jan to bolster the squad. The rest of the squad will be looked at in the summer.

Butland isn't good enough but his club would be insane not to cash in on his new found and wrongly placed fame because he has been found out and found wanting in between the sticks.

It's only because he looks like a young Joe Hart that people think he's good, he played a few games on T.V and suddenly he's awesome, well it's not the case. He has a bleeding long way to come and he doesn't want to be an understudy and he's certainly not Premiership standard at current, in my opinion (not that it's much to go on mind you) it would be a catastrophic mistake and the confidence in the back line would have a drastic negative outcome.

Rodgers actually talked about this recently (yesterday i think) and explained he's not letting Pepe go and see's him as a long term fixture at Anfield.

So, if Pepe does leave, which i think is highly unlikely that any team would let their first choice keeper go mid season bar a monster offer, then it'll more likely be a Summer more to give a fresh keeper time in between the sticks to adjust and get used to things. Especially not a young inexperienced lower league keeper, such as young Butland.

06 Dec 2012 01:54:54
If we were getting a new keeper though it would be Ter Stegan or Ron-Robert Zeiler for me.

We have had the next up and coming keeper at least 3 times in james, warner and kirkland. it didnt work then and it wont work now.

Why is no one talking about the 39mill FSG just spent on one player for the Red Sox? I hope that doesn't effect our transfer budget!

That's what the player is getting paid over 4 years. He was a free agent. Average players in baseball make way way too much money. The silly thing about soccer is the transfer fees required to get players. Very different from sports here in the US.

~Fresh

My guess is because theyre 2 seperate business's. If they do well, why cant they spend their success?
Would you like it if our money from, say, getting into CL, was spent to buy baseball players? thought not...
Its all about us becoming a self effecient clubs.
Benny baller

Lmao unlike football, other sports in the world don't BUY players, (which most north American's find funny), They simply trade for pick up free agents. Any price quoted is the player's salary.

$ to £ is why. Just half it

What a stupid approach to business finance. You think whenever Roman refuel his yacht it comes out of Chelsea budget?

The two businesses are separate

Nevada

They actually sign two big players Napoli and victorino, both for 3 years and around 38 mill

Victorino is know as "The Flyin' Hawaiian." Just the nickname is worth a million dollars per year.

The Express are currently running an Alonso back to Liverpool in January story.

No direct quotes, mind.

Kuyt was always " the man for the occasion" so for a little trip down memory lane, what was your favourite goal the man scored?
( mine, the one against united, where he caught evra outa position and rifled home in the fa cup at anfield )

Benny baller

Agree. Either the FA Cup goal vs Utd or his 5-yard hat-trick against them. Miss you Dirk, you're welcome back at Anfield anytime.

His performance against Wigan in one of the years was very good.

Piledriver

The goal he scored against everton point blank header wen we were down to 10 men...
sublime.....

The 97th minute penalty against Arsenal, what a player for the pressure situations and the guy could run all day - like a blonde duracell bunny!

FA cup v Utd was special. Anfield was absolutely rocking and he stood in front of the Kop with his arms up like a victorious gladiator and soaked up the atmosphere!

06 Dec 2012 16:07:57
yeah good times, and where did we finish in the table that year? because united finished top

"yeah good times, and where did we finish in the table that year? becuase united finished top" thanks for your contribution to the conversation about table positions, unfortunately this was a conversation about Dirk. I think you should have taken that left at Alberkerky.

Liverpool team of today is b*******, back in my day we had a cracking side. It's a real shame I tell ya, a real shame. You are all probs to young to remember the late 60s,70s an 80s that's when we were a force to be reckoned with lads. Now we are crap I haven't enjoyed a game since rafa left. We have had woy, kenny an now bren since him and it's just crap now. Football of today is just awful. What happend lads what happend.

One unhappy camper.

Eric Wilson 1951

Youre boring :)

Benny baller

If 1951 is the year of your birth, then god help you. The way you type, I'd say you were about 12.

Well, that is very sad for you. I however, remember the 80s, not the 60s or 70s, and am more than happy with the football today, how the club are now developing, Brendon Rodgers, the youth development and the future of club. Remembering the past is great, being stuck there will only make you unhappy, clearly. Move on, then up, like the club is doing.

Andy K

How negative! Support through thick and thin? YNWA??

KJS 1961....(also remembers the good old days)

Not many players play for the shirt anymore. Maybe it has somrthing to do with the large number of whining and moaning fans like you that kills the passion, maybe it doesn't.

LIVERPRES

Eric you could make an lfc 11 from the 60s,70s and 80s, but they would be taken apart by this current bs team as you call them. im afraid football like life has probably gotten a little to fast and complex for you to enjoy. but hey you can get all of those cherished memory's on a dvd to watch when the world gets to much.

KUMBER

I might have a flux capacsiter lying around somewhere you could borrow or you could try and move on.We all know how great we used to be and we all know what it take to get back, but i believe we are heading in the right direction, we needed to start all over again our youth was rubbish it had gone a bit stale in the back ground some of you mighting agree with me but Rafa changed all that and it is starting to bear fruit now to me thats from the foundations up, Our problem i sometimes think is how great we were in the past its a burden thats put on our players shoulders and i think its even heavier on a players shoulders that doesnt grasp the philosophy of Liverpool f.c. It takes time i know but it is and will be a team to be proud of.

gee man

Time you got into lawn bowls, Eric

cozinoz

It is what is on the pitch that kills the passion of the fans ,fact.

The game is infested with people like you Eric - I was born in the 50s but don't have this old-codger mentality you seem to have. The game HAS changed. It IS about money and what's wrong with that?
Too many fans want players to sign for a club and pledge their whole lives to it. Why? I worked for 7 companies in 37 years and neither they nor I expected it to last forever, no matter how much they paid me!
Why can't players leave a club and not be berated by fans? They sign for a period and then want to move on. Too many fans think a club is a spider's web - once a player is trapped in the web they will never leave.

Can't believe the choice of strikers the club has to chose from in this window.
This is mainly due to players being in last 6 months of deal, but still I've never known a January market filled so with so much quality to be bought in one window.

Already there's.

T. Walcott. Last 6 months.
D. Sturridge. Last 6 months.
K. J. Huntelaar. Last 6 months.
F. Llorente. Last 6 months.
A. Milevsky. Last 6 months of contract.
M. Zarate. Told he can go (plus only 6-7 million).

Surely with the lack of fire power we have, we should be looking to bring in two forwards this window. I'd be happy with any two of these. Maybe all of them arnt attainable but we should be trying.

NESN have just signed a player called Napoli for the Red Sox on a three year deal worth 39 million (dollars) so hopefully there is funds in the pot for us too.

Jonesred {Ed002's Note - Sturridge is not in the last six months of his contract.}

The RedSox have just spent 120.2 million on 4 players in the last few weeks. Not only on Mike Napoli, they also signed 3 others....just an fyi.

phillyred

Jonesred, the thing with players in the last 6 months is the potentially present really good value and that is the club edict. It is not about cheap but about value.

Andy K

The fact that they are spending money on the red sox has nothing to do with liverpool...they have money, period. They just don't throw it around stupidly.

The red sox also have 81 home games each year to generate revenue from.

Liverpool have been linked with countless names over the past couple of weeks. Liverpool are in need of a forward or two and the papers just link any striker in form or frozen out who could possibly move Demba Ba, Shane Long, Darren Bent, Wilfred Bony, Bafetimbi Gomis, Gary Hooper{although he was watched}, Lacina Traore, Mauro Zarate, Robbie Keane, Leandro Damioa, Loic Remy, Klass Jan Huntelaar etc. these strikers are just in the last couple of weeks and 95% of the stories are not true. Huntelaar would be my no. 1 choice as he in a natural finisher, he links up well with Suarez and considering his contract is up at the end of the season we would be getting a world class striker in the form of his life for a bargain in January, what more could you want but while he is continually being linked with a move to Anfield people seem to forget that Brendan Rodgers was asked if he would bring Huntelaar to the club and he said definitely not. Two players he was also asked about and did not rule out moves for are Daniel Sturridge and Theo Walcott. Liverpool are looking to offload a number of players this January and everyone knows Rodgers would love to shift Joe Cole and Stewart Downing if he can find new clubs for them however this may prove difficult. Doni and Dani Pacheco are also expected to leave the club. FSG have told Rodgers they will back him with the funds to sign Sturridge and Walcott but he will have to clear out some of the aforementioned players if he wishes to make any more signings. Angelo Ogbonna is Rodgers last target this January, the young Italian centre back is having a fantastic year and has some of the best passing stats in Europe this year. Ogbonna is also comfortable at left back and there's no reason why he couldn't also offer cover for Lucas as a holding midfielder as he has all the attributes. Anyway in summary likely transfer activity for Liverpool this January INS-Sturrridge,Walcott and then 50/50 on Ogbonna OUTS-Downing,Cole,Doni,Pacheco

I disagree...

I think its pretty obvious we have a wafer thin squad, what we want to do is move the likes of downing and cole down the pecking order whilst bolstering the squad in bringing in 1/2 much needed attacking players. Come summer when it is much easier to do dealings i think you may be right with a few sold on and replaced with much better quality *fingers crossed* (hopefully the expected 17/18m for Carroll can be utilised in jan).

Hit return once in a while and I might read your posts.

Oh god Daniel Sturridge, wasteful, egotistical, celebrates like he's kaka in his prime, willing to trust in Brendan and if he signs Sturridge ill support him, but I'm not expecting much just more wasted cash.
Also Blackpool won't believe there luck if we sign ince for the amounts quoted, he was let go for a reason, I fail to see how a couple of solid performances in the champ get you resigned to a club like ours. I feel we have far better youth players available than ince. Sterling, suso, Ibe, pelosi, peterson, even Morgan.

05 Dec 2012 20:45:24
I do not have any doubt that Sturridge will add something to the team. However,I believe such level of investment could be more effectively directed somewhere else if we do efficient scouting.

05 Dec 2012 20:30:41
Has anyone stopped to consider that these Reina rumours have came about because we are scouting for a new keeper not to replace Reina but as backup! Doni has gone, Jones could very likely go which would mean we would defo be in the market for a good backup. Looks to me like media has put 2 and 2 together and came up with 5. Rodgers has also came out today and said Reina is not or sale.

Rodgers has Pepe as #1 and he said yesterday he has a loyal #2 in Jones, he squashed the rumours when confronted by them. Check the article out on ssn.

05 Dec 2012 20:24:23
If we sign Ince and Walcott, I think that's a successful window, especially considering Borini will be fit and raring to go soon.

I think in terms of depth and rotation, having three senior forwards in

Walcott Suarez Borini

and three, extremely talented alternatives in

Sterling Assaidi Ince

Makes for a fairly healthy front line, if I'm honest.

It's not breaking the bank and I know some want the big world class talent, but in reality those players have guaranteed champions league opportunities and bigger wages elsewhere so it's hard to compete. Walcott may demand a big wage, but surely Cole and Downing will be gone in due course to compensate.

Come the summer we take stock, flog Carroll and make a decision to progress with Ibe, Sinclair and Yesil. Or we buy a big name striker, as they may not be ready.

The same can be said for the midfield. BR has great faith in Lucas, Shelvey, Gerrard, Suso and Allen. Henderson may yet find his feet, so that leaves one or two spaces in my eyes. Right now I can't see Sahin staying. The lad has obvious talent, but the pace and physicality of the EPL may get the better of him. I don't see an obvious choice in the academy, so that's a place we'll spend. If you continue to play Gerrard deeper then we're looking at a number 10. That player could be anyone, but to sign someone special, champions league/strong progression is a must. If Henderson leaves then I can see a stronger more physical player being sought, as it's obvious we lack strength when Lucas isn't there.

The defence looks solid and impressive. Johnson has been world class this season in my opinion. Skrtel and Agger have settled back down to being a very strong unit and Enrique is proving his class again, albeit higher up the pitch. With Wisdom emerging, Coates, Kelly and Robinson as back up, we may settle with that. Carra may still stay on, but if he retires hopefully Sama will get a chance, as he's got a lot of quality. The only area that we may look to strengthen is left back. Enrique may be a good squad/utility man, but he's erratic at the back. Johnson may get sick of filling in and Robinson may not be ready still, a full years loan may serve very useful indeed.

The goal keeper department seems better. Jones has stepped up, which I'm very pleased about. Reina looks to be getting back to some of his better form, but there are still question marks (despite what BR said today).

On paper I don't see that we have a huge amount to spend come the summer. BR has already shown great faith in youth and this will continue in the coming years, making our squad more competitive and less reliant on ageing/overpaid squad players. Perhaps with that in mind we'll look at two more proven players of the Suarez calibre, to take us to that next level. I'm optimistic, but we've got a crucial few weeks coming up. If we can get on a roll, things come January may be looking a lot more promising.

Papa G

Assaidi not a striker

Neither is sterling, he was clearly talking about the front 3, why are you nit picking? :S

SideShowBob

Great post btw Papa G, i am in complete agreement with you. I'd like to think in a couple of years that suso would be able to make the number 10 role his own, however we would be silly not to explore other alternatives comes summer, especially as i do not see Sahin signing permenantely either, simply from a wage aspect to be honest. If he is on the circa 80k rumoured then his wages essentially equate to that of jonjo, hendo and allen together!

I for one would still love to see the return of xabi, he's a very tidy player and great in possession which i can see appealing to Br, despite questions about age and wage I believe Xabi could carry on for a good few years yet and would undoubtably give his all.

I don't know enough about Ince to comment but I think theo could fit in very well with us, especially in comparison to daniel sturridge who i'm not sure has ever made an assist in his life? surely not the right player for us..

Personally I would love us to get a Chicarito type striker who would completely thrive off the many chances we create, long gone are the days with us playing with a striker off the last defender which is why i believe darren bent has no chance either..

Ed if we brought in a striker in january & brought back the legend that is Xabi Alonso I think most fans would jump at it, then really build in the summer market.If we pass up the chance to resign Xabi a lot of fans would become disillusioned {

Xabi isn't coming back! give it a rest, people. look forward, not backward.

05 Dec 2012 20:15:32
Daniel Sturridge will sign in the 1st week of January, that deal has been agreed in principal. That will put the Walcott rumours to bed. Tom Ince will sign also for around £5-6 million. Liverpool looking for a Defensive midfielder as back up for Lucas with his namesake Lucas Biglia been scouted since September, he's thought to be available for around £8 million. Stewart Downing will be the only departure from LFC in January (loan with option to buy must likely)

Brian Fantana

Why would that put the Walcott rumour's to bed?

05 Dec 2012 22:16:04
Why not Sturridge AND Walcott....?

It's Luca Biglia not Lucas, so it's not Luca;s namesake. Just saying.

Mascherano advised Liverpool's then manager Roy Hodgson to buy Luca as Mascherano's replacement. As a side note.

I like him, Arsenal looked at him, but he got injured i think. Would be an interesting signing.

gutted Gerrard lucas and agger not playing in europa game and looks like a weekend team with luis suarez. We need to progress in this comp to attract better players in jan.

Weekend? is that kind of like a sunday morning team

The league and then the FA Cup are more important than an over populated and drawn out Europa league.
4th is do'able in my opinion so we need to focus on that and not get sidetracked by cup games like we did last season.
kidmillions

05 Dec 2012 22:12:53
Lucas has literally just come back from injury and cannot play 3 games in a week right now, simple as. He'll play against West ham. Gerrard has played quite a few games in a short space of time and won't be 100% right now with travelling aswell. Agger maybe rested as he has through every europa game so far because the lad has a history of injuries and the idea is not to play him in every game, carra will come in for Agger and captain in gerrards absence. Its been the pattern so far.
Everyone knows it's a must win game and other than those three players I expect a pretty strong line up

Kev79

I don't see why Coates shouldn't cover Agger instead of Carra.

Any chance we could get an a Russian oligarch in or an Arab oil prince, i have no preference, but would like one in January?! Nothing against Fenway, they haven't done anything wrong as such (and John's missus is fit as, well punching above his weight) but would just prefer one of the above with a few £100 million spare to splash around. Thats what I want for Xmas people

Yeah but what happens when these suger daddies get bored and leave, and leave the club in a mess!

Agree. John's missus is well fit.

Billionaires don't punch above there weight!

Seeing as most of the posts seem to be hopeful speculation, are there any players that have known interest from us?

Eds who are we are after in Jan. I'm tired of the Walcott, Sturridge and Huntelaar rumours although i would be happy with them players! {Ed002's Note - I have explained where I know interest to be plenty of times.}

only thing i know is that tom ince will sign for us.

^ Really hope Ince and Sturridge don't sign for us! I'll re-phrase that! i really hope LFC have no interest in either player!

05 Dec 2012 18:19:25
Subject : Thomas Ince

Am I the only Liverpool supporter that is absolutely incredulous that we shipped out the above named player to Blackpool for a reported sum of £250,000 a matter of mere months ago and we are now contemplating a bid of £6 million to buy him back?

Has the world gone mad? How has he become the 'Six Million Dollar Man' in this short time? Yes I realise that we have a sell on clause which would reduce the fee but come on, this has to smack of the worst kind of misjudgement (if it is true of course) by everyone involved at the Academy, BR and his youth coaches (and I would also have to include his father in this assessment who should have just told him to knuckle down at LFC)

Or, as was also reported earlier in the year, that his father was meddlesome in his son's affairs, the kid wanted a megabucks contract (without making any kind of first team impression) and perhaps threatened to run down his contract and leave for free or lastly (and perhaps most importantly) he had a superiority 'guvnor' complex combined with a bad attitude...

If any of the above is true (and yes I know there are certain assumptions in there) then we should not go near this kid ever again with a very big barge pole. For heaven's sake it comes down to one word... LOYALTY

Even if we can write off 25% of the £6 million it means the kid (who we paid, coached and trained to be where he is today) would have cost the club roughly £4.5 million to re-acquire his services and made us look complete fools in the process...

I for one, will be extremely disappointed if we re-sign this mercenary and the problems that his father will likely bring along too. If he goes to United then so be it, he does not have the right heart to wear our jersey...

Surely the Club are not that stupid? I truly hope not.

MikeInUSA

ps Ed's - not sure if this is 'Transfer' or 'Banter' material. Thanks anyway {Ed052's Note - Cheers mate}

He cost Blackpool just £52,000, we get 35% off and I'm pretty sure he'll cost more than 6 million anyway.

BthekingB

Houlier shipped his old man out for the same reasons bad influence bad attitude leave him with the donkeys

He's not as good as he and his dad think he is. Not good enough for us. If we re-sign him I will be gob-smacked at our lack of ambition.
DJP

Liverpool football club is a hell of a lot bigger than the attitudes of Tom and Paul Ince. And that's saying something.

05 Dec 2012 22:26:58
Rodgers wasn't even at the club when Ince left so it can't be put down to him that he was let go.
I will say though I don't see why we need Ince when we have sterling, assaidi, suso and kids coming through such as Ibe, Sinclair etc. Even more so if we get Walcott and/or Sturridge.

He wouldn't sign a contract so why would you of kept an unhappy player.

Nice one MikeUSA. Spot on mate.

Hey Ed,
I've noticed Nuri Sahin has been playing many games. Is this because Brendan Rodgers doesn't feel he is good enough or is he planning to keep Real Madrid's asking price down for a permanent transfer in the summer? Any reason in particular why he's not playing Ed?
Cheers,
DublinRed. {Ed052's Note - He wont be keeping him on the bench to get a lower price. That would be a waste of money, and probably not the best way to convince a player to sign for you - stick 'em on the bench!!} He played a lot in his early LFC career, and did well. However, he dropped off a little. I think it is a case of him needing a few more game, which come over the hectic festive period}

OK cheers Ed!
DublinRed. {Ed052's Note - N.P}

I think BR has left Sahin out because he does not seem to want to get too physical and has been lacking in some games. That's why Shelvey and Henderson are getting in ahead of him.

SwissRed in Toronto

Did well? Ed, have you gone mental? {Ed052's Note - In his first few matches, after the Arsenal game, he did very well. Has the WB game slipped your memory, or the early Europa games where he controlles us one handed. he has however since dropped off. The game tonight will be a good chance for him to get forward I'm sure}

I say Ed001s house!

I'm already organising a massive night in town with my Liverpool buddies for when we do :) {Ed052's Note - As JP says, my pad may be the place for a rave, but I'm sure Ed001's dancefloor may be the best - and remember to invite Suarez....}

Hate to be a party pooper guys, but we ain't getting no penalties this season. All the tickets were bought up already by Fergie.

Hi guys
A few thoughts.

1. If Reina does leave, I'd be happy to see Brad Jones have a good run of games as no. 1. He hasn't been too bad at all when he has played and though less dextrous, he poses more of a physical presence. Plus he loves the club. :)

2. If there has been something that has disappointed me a bit this season, it's the home support. Where has the atnosphere and singing gone? Esp when we are struggling? What happened to the Anfield 12th player and the Kop End sucking the ball into the net?

Instead i watched as 200 Young Boys outsang 40000 at Anfield.

I'm planning to blow a few thousand quid to fly to Anfield next year to watch a game. I will shed tears on my way to the hallowed ground and I will sing til I am hoarse even if we are losing.

Really hope more real Reds get to go to games. Esp times like these when the team needs us.

I love the club, does not mean I am anywhere good enough. When Jones play's the defence looks so shaky, Reina is a great keeper, not just the usual shot stopping, etc, but the communication and organisation is far better.

Jones is just not good enough

redphil

I think Reina has shown signs of improvement recently. Looks far more confident and composed. It's a shame Xavi Valero is currently mentoring Petr Cech not Reina. Think he needs a good coach above him, not Achterberg.

Not really gossip, just a question based on some really random info I have from an ex-agent...

Does anyone know much about Miralem Sulejmani?

I have heard he is out of contract in the summer and is looking to engineer an exit to the Premier League.

I haven't been told about a direct link to LFC, but he could be what we are looking for.

West Ham might be the best bet LeTrench.

He is too greedy and just not good enough.

Remember last year when Kenny claimed that Downing was even better than they expected? That's when I knew he had truly lost it. Not a dig at Kenny, just remembering how all the hype got crushed. I feel more confident about our current squad, thin as it may be.

If downing ever read these pages would there be any wonder about a lack of confidence?

He has too many problems

Why go on about it? Kenny is gone; Downing will soon be gone.

Move on.

Hi Fans - Is there anyone who can tell me the Liverpool substitutes against Borussia Dortmund in the NextGen and who they replaced - I believe Peterson was one of them.
bvd
DM2012 {Ed001's Note - yes, Trickett-Smith came on as well. I can't remember if there were more than 2 subs used. I seem to remember Ibe and Lussey being replaced.}

Thanks a lot for your quick reply.

Good Afternoon Guys- seeing there is about a thousand names being linked with us this January , could the Eds or anyone else please fill me in who the Genuine Interest is in, besides Walcott,Huntelarr,Sturridge Who is Confirmed Targets by the Eds? I tried the search function but cannot find what im looking for. thanks for your time Every1 :D
CONCON

As the manager said, we are being linked to everyone and his dog and only fraction of these are being looked at.
I think we will just have to wait and see who was correct and who was a b*llsh*tter.
I will note, we have some very, very good players coming up in the U21's and U18's and I would hate to see their progress blocked by huge salaried, ego has beens (ie Cole, Downing, etc)

I wouldn't accuse either of being an ego, i'm not aware of either player crying to the press about their lack of playing time.

i know sometimes its hard and frustrating being a liverpool fan but in my humble opinion if we can get behind the team and give them our full backing for the rest of the season and next season, its then that i believe we will see the true br team and style, we all need to realise we haven't got bucket loads of money to buy world class stars and for that matter, when have we ever bought world class stars. Its looking really good from the young players coming through but they are what they are, young players learning their trade so they need time to develop and progress and when they do we will have a great squad and a top class coach. As fans we should all respect peoples opinions, some of us moan, some of us look to the positives and some get angry but at the end of the day we all spend our money one way or another supporting this club we all love, so we all show our passion in different ways and we all want lfc to succeed but again this is only my opinion but i believe the best way for us to succeed is to give every player good or bad our full support as they are all lfc players regardless if we think they are good enough or not.

Great post.

Why these rumours of ince? He's a good championship player. Therefore an average prem player. He'd be good for the likes of villa, Wigan etc... Not for Liverpool. If u want to finish in top four you don't go and buy mid table players. Jayo

Good post..but which CL player wanna come to us?
currently we are also sitting in the mid table..
one luis suarez is the sole representation of big star players with us....
cavain, higuain, llorente, falcao, y would they come to us? pls have a say?

7 points of CL spot with only one striker, and the players having to adapt to a brand new system. Another goal scorer in the team, and perhp a bit more cover at LB and not much wrong with the team.

Lucas return will be massive. Glass half full day today.

Ed001, just a thing lingering in my mind. Why isn't Sahin playing games. Is he injured by any chance?

KrishnaYNWA {Ed001's Note - no, he was left out.}

His style of play is far to slow for the epl he will probably end up back at Dortmund or in Italy.

Nuri Sahin has been named in the squad for the Udinese game. No Gerrard, so may get some time on the pitch.

No, it's just cos' he's pony. bitterly disappointing and no better than what we have with jonjo and co.

He was out for an awful long time at Madrid and then couldn't get in the squad due to xabi, he was purchased by Madrid to replace xabi in a couple of years. I watched him a lot at Dortmund and he had great passing and vision and was always a couple of steps ahead.

Give him a run of games at cm instead of dm and you'll see the best of him.

Nevada

Yea, give the boy a chance.

No Gerrard, Lucas or Agger vs Udinese. Must win so we don't have to rely on other result. Time for the others to step up and put in a performance and, yes, that means you Mr Downing and Mr Cole

I would never play downing again , cole yes , what sort of man or player lets a 17 year old take your place , a greedy man who is only there for the money , and his name is downong , thanks kenny , you got that sooo wrong

Without Lucas and Agger we could be in trouble vs. Udinese. For me Gerrard has been sloppy and slow, so I don't see his absence as crucial, especially with Sahins form in Europa league. Shelvey also raises him game in these games. I predict we'll nip it 2 - 1 with Suarez and Shelvey scoring. I pray that Downing doesn't play, nor Cole.

05 Dec 2012 11:43:35
Cant wait to see Torres in a red shirt again. Well thats the red shirt of nottingham forest......

Why revel in the plight of a former hero? He left the team. He didn't assassinate anyone. I feel for Torres. Watching him play with Gerrard was awesome. Why tarnish good memories?

The day he left. I stopped caring. No animosity, just apathy.

Eds do you think we might see sinclair on bench on sunday? he was subbed earli yesterday in youth cup looked well impressive,, wats happnd to yesil not seen him in reserves this month either thnks
Basy {Ed001's Note - I very much doubt he will be on the bench mate, he is still just a kid. I thought Yesil was injured? I might be getting mixed up though.}

Ed001 what do u think of ibe? do u see him as the next to make it?

Kaizer {Ed001's Note - not the next, no. I think one of the two full backs will be more likely, Smith or McLaughlin, as they are both excellent. Though it is difficult to predict, as it only takes injuries to give a player a chance and it is then down to him to take it.}

05 Dec 2012 07:35:06
Hi Eds and fellow Reds, posting first time in here, though been on the site for almost a year now. A question for Ed001 or Ed002 specially,

About Borini: he's only played two-three PL games, then got injured. Considering he comes back mid-Jan, do you think he'll slot in straightaway into the first team displacing Enrique in 4-3-3? Also we're probably getting a wide forward, so does that jeopardise his chances post Jan in the PL? Would like to know who your choices would be regarding our new forward in Rodger's system considering Borini's fit and available.

Cheers
Gogol {Ed001's Note - probably not straight back in and more likely to give Sterling a rest if anything. Though a lot will depend on who is in form at the time.}

Thanks for the reply... I do hope he comes good. Borini has the quality to be a poacher like Chicarito.

Gogol

No he doesnt

Yes he does

Boring should have to earn his place in the team and if he is not playing well in January then he should sit on the bench

Lol, erm no he doesn't. Just another flop to add to the endless list, I'm becoming sick and tired of us wasting money on talentless players such as Borini, Hendo, Downing, Carroll, Enrique etc etc.. The list goes on. Why can't we be more shrewd with our money like Arsenal or even Everton!

Look behind you!!
Is it panto season already??

20m to spend in January

outs
Downing £8m
Cole £2m
Reina £16m (AC Milan & Arsenal are interested)
Sterling £11m + Walcott

ins
FWD - Daniel Sturridge - £12m
FWD - Theo Walcott - free (incl in sterling deal)
AM/Winger - Nicolas Gaitan - £18.5m
GK - Nikolay mihaylov - £5m
LB - Mario Sampirisi - £3m

Don't mean to be a spoilsport, but many on here seemed to have forgotten the disappointing summer you had. With this being the same financial year and FSG unwilling to release £1m more to sign Dempsey, will FSG be looking to spend money in January? That said you do need a striker although with top four looking highly unlikely perhaps they will wait until the summer? I think it will be a quiet January all round with perhaps the exception of Chelsea.

Disney!

Heinz or HP ?

Disney what happened with dempsey wasnt that they couldnt afford the extra 1m it was cos fulham wanted more from us than what they had accepted from vila and spurs. Cant blame the owners cos if they would of paid it other clubbs would start doing the same. Also we are only 7 poonts behind 3rd with well over half the season to go.

I think if quality is available that will improve the goal threat and is of the right profile, then reasonable money will be released to compete for that players signature. We will not be done over again.

Disney what happened with dempsey wasnt that they couldnt afford the extra 1m it was cos fulham wanted more from us than what they had accepted from vila and spurs.
===========================

This is simply not true ... Fulham were willing to accept lower price from Liverpool because it was the player's choice ... But we played hard ball.

Roy {Ed001's Note - no they weren't, that is nonsense. We offered less because he wanted to come to us and they refused to accept it. They originally asked for more than they accepted, went down to the same amount and we wouldn't budge.}

================================

Whats nonesense; Villa offered 10, Fulham were willing to sell to liverpool for 9 but liverpool offered a lot less and were not willing to budge ... I think he was sold to spurs for 7 in the last minute , but willing to be corrected by you on that one.
Roy {Ed001's Note - Villa offered nowhere near 10! That was media speculation mate. Villa offered 8m and Fulham asked for 10m from us. They went down to 8m, but we refused to budge because they had initially asked us for more. In the end, they had to accept Spurs' bid, as it was the only one on the table that Dempsey was willing to consider, having already rejected Villa.}

Due to all the carp and rubbish you Edds have to deal with and no doubt cut most of, can i ask you a favour. For one day only or just a few hours could you post all the questions, barring anything containing bad language or anything which could put site in trouble. The reason i ask is I could really do with a laugh, we get to see what you deal with everyday, and also I reckon some of these fantasists come up with some right belters. Not to mention the repetitive questiond. Ha ha.

Could you answer yes or no please Edds, or maybe set a target no. of agrees to make it happen.

Thanks

Hi all,
Been visiting this site for a fair while now, I must say that the amount of people who want BR out, who are having a go about some of our current and old players.
I must admit that I get very frustrated when watching players that are no where near good enough to play in our shirt. But if it was upto us fans would Lucas still be a liverpool player? No he wouldn't be struggled for years to adjust not jus to the premier league but the weight of wearing our mighty red shirt. Look at him now though, we need him in our team. I'm not saying that every player should have the chance to prove himself cos some blatantly don't have what it takes to play for us. But we have a very thin squad so until the time comes that BR can remove and replace these players is it not better the player we no than the player we don't, better to scout replacements properly than rush like we have before paying way too much.
I'm not a big FSG fan, but I'm not going to bang on about them being got rid of or calling them, I want them to prove me wrong, and yes at the moment they are, our club is financially secure thanks to them, we have a young manager who is doing a fantastic job with moving us forward, a manager that unless what I have read is wrong is respected enough to have been invited to the Spanish teams training camps. This bloke needs time to build his team, he works with what he has, he can't go out and replace every player he wants instantly.
Joe Allen looks a real prospect, Henderson young lad could be another Lucas situation, we must trust BR to make these judgements, he watches these players every day not once or twice a week.
For all the true LFC supporters we know we have a real future and we know we need to support our team now more than ever while we grow back into the top of the table.
For all the other so called fans if patience is not a virtue you have been blessed with I suggest you move your support to chelski or man city

In Brendan I trust

05 Dec 2012 07:51:03
All this talk of Sturridge is driving me nuts,
the guy is so selfish - which is alright if your good but he is anything but that. The way we play now we need players willing to close down and run, he wont do that, he wont come back to help, and he cannot lead the line "team GB" for example.

To think we might potentially spend £15mil on this joke is crazy, he struggles to get into the chelsea team were he wants to play as a striker. Yet he cant get infront of torres despite his poor form. JOKE.

We need players that will adapt to our system quick and hit the ground running.

Redjav.

05 Dec 2012 10:17:31
Who do you suggest then as a striker?

Ian

The fact is we need players going forward not going backwards. Sturridge takes on players and beats them not just passes it back or sideways. Liverpool has been lacking a player like this for a whole especially on the wings. Sturridge has speed skill and arrogance which is a good thing. He's not afraid to shoot and in my opinion sturridge might get the best out of Suarez in terms of clinical finishing. £12mill is what we are getting him for and he is worth that especially when we buy payers like fabio borini at £11mill.

Let me guess, we should buy Torres back instead?

Hi eds, Hulk has officially said he wanna leave Zenit during the january transfer window due to problems wit the manager. And manager himself has criticised saying he wil find a replacement for Hulk(source:espn). I dono if v r interested in him but v were scoutin him before he moved to zenit. He can be perfect for Liverpool cos he's got strength, pace, technique, creativity and a gud finisher too and he is oly 26 and i hope v can sign him easily as wel. Wat do u think guys?

I think he's an abomination

Square tomato

Sure.got a spare 40m?

cozinoz

His ability and his questionable attitude are not really relevant to us as he won't have the slightest interest in joining LFC where he'll get no CL football and less money.

Just don't make him angry. You wouldn't like him when he's angry.

Hello Eds,
I suspect that Reina and Downing will go to arsenal and we`ll get Walcott or Ox-Chemb+Szczesny, out of favour Cole will be sold to France or QPR, Hendo will go to spurs with adebayour accepting a big pay check cut just to play regularly. We`ll also try to get Bent. On top of that, we`ll try to get Derrick Rose as Enrique is comfortable as a left winger. Will any of this come true? We`ll have to wait and see.

Honestly eds where do you get them?

Most of them are plausible(!) However I'm not sure whether Derrick Rose would change sports mid-season. He may be a talented player, however I believe he is a much better Point Guard for the Chicago Bulls.

El Pi**edolero

Plus he's out until the NBA All star break (Feb)with a torn ACL

He's name is danny rose , derrick rose plays for chicago bulls

Think Sterling will be gone in Jan.
Just too much about this, and too many denials by Rodgers.

Good luck to the lad, he must do what he feels is right, not be bullied by those around him.

Good Luck..... Not if he leaves for the money!
FowlerisGod

FowlerisGod; Money rules mate .. sad but true.
You need to bear(bare?) in mind Sterling is surrounded by advisers and agents who make the decisions for him or atleast influence his decisions.
IF (big if) he leaves good luck to him, just hope for his sake its to a club that can help him grow as a player .. he can be a future big name if he keeps up his work rate.

Roy

Sterling is signing his his new contract on Saturday when he turns 18 ;) Until he signs there will be speculation from the media... I'd doubt he'd get playing time at United, Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal or City anyway IMO.
He'll be a great at LFC in the future.

Rocky

For 25 million I would sell him. He is talented yes, but also weighs 100 pounds and is easy to knock off the ball. He is young yes, but how much stronger do people get after age 18? You can hit the gym, but you aren't goin to sprout a foot. For 24 million we could sign Eriksen to replace Gerrard.

The last comment must have been from someone who clearly hasn't watched Sterling properly. He is actually pretty strong. Simon

Stirling is very strong for a boy of his size but his final ball needs a lot of work still
no end product

U18's magnificent. U21's unbeaten. A bunch of kids in the 1st team squad. Rodolfo promoted to head of Acedemy coaching Inglethorpe hired in from spurs, Steve Cooper doing a great job since his recent promotion and Frank Mc Partland overseeing it all. Lads and lassies were in great hands with the youth. All this while I listen to Peter Hooton and The Farm from 3500 miles away. Saw the video for the JFT96 song today and nearly fell out of me shoes when I saw the bould Shane McGowan in it. All is good in life for sure.

Hi this has nothing to do with liverpool this time but isnt it a shame that Arsenal fielded a weakened team just to avoid Barca next round so they have a better chance maybe?-of getting through later rounds to make more money ,i think the draws for the next rounds should be after all the teams have played in each round-SALLY-

They rested their players ahead of the WBA match at the weekend. Nothing to do with Barcelona.

05 Dec 2012 00:51:06
Concerning the players we've been linked with recently:

Sturridge, could be ok, likely

Ince, could be ok, likely

Rose, not keen on the idea, unlikely

Huntelaar, would be great, won't happen

Bent, not keen, faint possibility

Ba, could be ok, possible

Walcott, would be good, faint possibility

Butland, no - unless he's 2nd choice, unlikely

Al Habsi - unless he's 2nd choice, won't happen

Holtby - would be good, unlikely

Gomis, would be ok, unlikely

Llorente,would be great, won't happen

Jeffren, unsure, possibility

conclusion: I think we'll probably just get Sturridge and Ince. We'll go for Walcott and Huntelaar but probably will miss out. Bent could arrive if we miss out on Sturridge.

This isn't what I want, but probably what's going to happen.

Irishdom15

Good post I do think that there is more going on behind the scenes and if we do get 3 players in I think at least one will be under the radar.

kobi

Think I agree with you there. Sturridge we will purchase for £12mill plus add ons then Tom ince will be bought if Walcott decides to sign a new contract or go elsewhere.

FSG..are fantastic owners but their lack of experience is killing me cos,our dumb managers just keep wasting their money..they want to get us to the top but our mediocre managers just keep bringing in players who should only dream of liverpool not play for them..kenny set us on the path with downing, carroll, hendo.now rodgers has started with borini and allen.now he is being linked continuously with sturridge and ince..the more we buy these type of players..the lower we keep going on the premier league table..I rather we keep playing morgan ngoo, ibe, pelosi, suso e.t.c than bringing players that those in our academy would be better than in two three years.Fsg needs a qualified director of football and a group of other directors who would help us start getting value for money..the faster.we would make the top 4..if rodgers doesn't like it he better go to another club..ASAP

Thanks be to jaysus you'll never be liverpool manager is all i can say!

hi eds
What's the situation with reina?
I hear that arsenal would bid in jan
happy to hear a reply
pragyan

Hopefully not. January is not the time to change first team keeper. Unless of course he wants to move, which won't be bold on his behalf if I'm honest. Liverpool have a much better defence than arsenal so he will have a lot more to do there. Summer is when we will deal with these sort of things.

04 Dec 2012 22:11:49
Hi ed's,

Apart from the obvious candidates that could leave (Cole & Downing); are there any other players that you've heard could leave in January either on loan or sold.

Not sure whether Wilson (Danny) will be the required level or pacheco.. Also U21's so far unbeaten is there any possible sales or loans to other clubs?

Thanks

Hoola

Wilson is out on loan to Bristol City at the moment. Whether it is a loan with a possibility to buy at the end of the season im unsure of but hes not being shipped out in jan as hes already out on loan.

Doni hopefully.

I thought it was an emergency loan he was on? Could have sworn he's only there for a couple of months.
