in relation to adam johnson, who has discovered some great recent form due to the positive handling by gus poyet. think how much more could brendan rodgers get out of adam johnson. look at the extra output that rodgers has got out of suarez and sturridge. brendan rodgers alone could take adam johnson to the next level.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Adam Johnson does not near need to be anywhere our Liverpool side

Agree0 Disagree0

Seriously, have you seen him play beyond the last month or so? I think he's average. Reminds me of a younger Downing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Really. Gus Poyet is doing a cracking job at Sunderland and the players are obviously enjoying playing for him. Gus seems to have got the best out of him already, I personally don't think there is any more to get out of him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Adam Johnson is a great talent, he's very tempremental though, if he doesn't like the manager or situation, he won't perform. I like him as a player, he's one of the few England players to actually drive at the defense and shoot, but I don't think Liverpool is a fit for him atm.

Agree0 Disagree0

We had our fingers burnt with the last English winger we bought. I'd imagine Johnson would command a similar fee to what we paid for Downing, so for me, I would stay well clear.

Agree0 Disagree0

If he could do that week in week out he would still be at man city imo.

Agree0 Disagree0

Interesting player but I think anybody who has watched would say that his style of play is just not compatable with our own. Good player but definitely not for us.

Eds and Reds.

What potential do you believe Sterling and Ibe have? International? World Class?
Sterling. for me, in the last 3 months has kicked on maturity-wise and seems to be making much better decisions and utilising his talents in more important situations for the team.
I've always liked Jordan Ibe, simply for his physical attributes, and thought he'd be heavily involved within the squad this season, yet he doesn't seem to be getting too much of a look-in. Does anyone know how highly he is regarded by the club?
Thanks, YNWA

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Think Sterling definitely has international quality in him but dunno about world class, though hard to tell! He has loads of talent but one think that impresses me is he seems very mature for a player his age. As in doesn't just run at defenders (Townsend), seems to try play the game properly and impressed with his defensive contribution Though think he still needs to work on his decision making in the final third (often tries to pass when he can shot or vice versa) and dunno how his athleticism (size and strength) will limit him, know it isn't essential just unsure if he ability will compensate for it, though has pace so hard to tell. In fairness think a lot depends on attitude and commitment, if he applies himself and keeps working hard who knows could easily be a world class player! Haven't seen much if Ibe though!

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he has been excellent for us this season. He has stepped up his game and has continuously proven to be one of our main attacking threats.

For me, he will be world class. At only 19 years old he is already showing world class qualities. He knows when to get forward and he knows when to defend. You would expect someone of his stature to be easily shrugged of the ball, but he is strong and knows how to use his body effectively. Playing alongside Suarez, Sturridge and Gerrard will only help him improve all aspects of his game and I am confident he will be a key player for years to come.

Under Rodgers we have seen Cole, Maxi, Kuyt, Downing, Assaidi* and Bellamy depart leaving Sterling and Ibe our only natural wingers. We do have Moses, but thankfully only on loan. A lot of faith has been placed in Sterling and he is repaying that faith with excellent performances week in week out. We have a significantly smaller wage bill too.

Red Rum

Agree0 Disagree0

And what do people think of Ibe? Personally I haven't seen enough of him mostly just preseason. But from what I've seen I think he has great promise, certainly better physical attributes than Sterling. Previously I thought he had more promise than Sterling and I did doubt Sterling after his drop off last season, but since December he has been exceptional and the best thing is he will improve. So what do people think of Ibe?

Agree0 Disagree0

Sterling's strength has impressed me this season. For such a small guy, he doesn't get bullied off the ball very easily, and he's always willing to try and win the ball in 50-50's, and does it pretty well. Been very impressed with how he has played, and it's meant the big January signing everyone was desperate for won't be terribly missed.

ED001 just wondering if you knew anything more about the anfield expansion? how many seats we are expected to hit etc, and if we would eventually be able to fill in the corners etc. I am kind of against the expansion, I love anfield, but once we hit 60k then where do we go from there, no room for further expansion etc and there are some pretty shocking views at anfield, especially on the anny road stand which is what we appear to be redeveloping. Also do you know if there is any chance of a naming rights deal and if the exterior of the stadium will get a new lick of paint etc.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - at the moment it is just a short term increase to take it over the 50k for now. The plan is not to stop there, but the surrounding area needs to have investment first.}

6k seats won't make a difference really,, I don't know much about the stadium plans, does anybody know what exactly is going to take place? The Main Stand and Anny Rd Stand definitely need a rethink.
IMO the centenary stand gives a brilliant view of the game and obviously the Kop is great. Would love to see Anfield be a 60/70k seater. Probably won't happen. But at least BUILD A DECENT CARPARK! Still thousands of fans cramming onto Goodison, schools, petrol stations every week.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - of course it can make a difference. The executive boxes are where the money is made, they only need a few hundred people to make a huge income difference.}

Any chance of the kop being expanded ed? and anything that will benefit the actual fans, not the corporate people

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it is certainly in future plans, but not for a while.}

I work for a building firm and our electical section, do work at anfield and melwood plus the academy and they are pricing for work. We got told they puttin 10 thousand on main stand and just over 5 thousand on anfield road taking total to 60 thousand

Agree0 Disagree0

What sort of capacity would be the.maxium we can expect in the future?

Agree0 Disagree0

Of course it`ll make a diff. An extra 15k seats will only increase revenue. That is simpe math.

IBTimes UK can exclusively reveal that Mohamed Salah wanted to move to Liverpool in January, but chose Chelsea because he felt the Reds disrespected him.

. just read this and although I'd promised to move on it does become an itch you can't scratch. The article goes on to confirm what fans feared; Liverpool dissing the player by their low offer and dilly dallying until Chelsea came in and by that time it was too late. WHY? WHOSE IDEA IS IT TO BID LOW? DID WE BID LOW ON PURPOSE?
The same newspaper report Kono being resentful for not having moved to Liverpool.
The worst points of note of this whole stinking episodes are the fact that BOTH PLAYERS WANTED TO COME TO LIVERPOOL!

Sorry to bring these up, but I do think the club owes the fans an explanation, and perhaps a private inquest by JH and Werner to find out (if they don't already know) what actually happened.

Sorry again guys, Promise not to mention it again.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Lfc bid what they valued the player at. Its that simple.

Agree0 Disagree0

I fail to see how placing a bid for a player regardless of the value is disrespectful to him. The value is something agreed between the clubs, so if anything it's disrespectful to them. If he's that much of a sensitive flower then perhaps it's best we missed out!

That said, whilst I applaud the principle of not over-paying, some of our negotiating tactics are very amateurish. And I'd like the owners to address that in whatever capacity they see fit during the summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I find it a bit strange that a player could claim to want a move to one club, while stating at the time that he wanted to join Man Utd or Chelsea. Seems like it is just a load of bull to me.}

Fanatic, don`t be fooled by these players. They are like politicians who want to take credit for everything BUT take the blame for nothing. Salah wanted to come here YET he said he wanted to go to the mancs, RM or any CL club. Us disrespecting him is a load of s***t. S`hampton offered more money than we did for coutinho BUT he demanded the Lfc move and Inter had no choice but to sell him to us because they needed the money. If he REALLY wanted to come here he could have done a "coutinho" and made it happen. Basel CANNOT force him to go where he doesn`t want to go. He`s trying to have it both ways and justify his motives like Gylfi and the rest did and where are they now? He should shot his gob and take his place on the Chavs` bench.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well first of all of this is paper talk. But if we can agree to rely on paper talk then what would everyone make of Brendan Rodgers words today. "I think for us, as a team, it's too early for that [the title]." Rodgers told ssn. "I was at the Manchester City-Chelsea game the other night and I look at the squads they have, which they have built up over the last few years, and it's very difficult for us, even though we have competed right the way through the season. So, I wouldn't say for us this year, no. We wouldn't be challengers for it." What happens when the injury prone Sturridge gets injured again or Coutinho's form dips AGAIN. If there was a British boxing champ out there who was ready for a shot at the title would anyone be bitter with him for pursuing that title shot? These players want to play in the Champions League. Suarez feels the same way. Sturridge has scored 24 goals in 30 games so we could realistically be looking at the next Eto or Henry here. I wouldn't be surprised if Arsenal or PSG come in for him in the summer. Can Lfc really compete. Is it that Salah is only good enough for Chelsea's bench or is it just sour grapes?

Agree0 Disagree0

Two words for Mr. Salah and his agent:

Who cares?

Enjoy London. You will have plenty of energy to do so, after a day spent sitting on a bench.

Agree0 Disagree0

I posted yesterday stating my opinions on some of the failed dealings, below is some of what I posted.

Are we really that inept at transfer dealings to make offers to clubs way under their valuation and expect to sit back for 2 ½ months and wait for the phone to ring, (Salah)
I think you'll find as a rule of thumb the selling club prices their own players not us?Do we do enough to make the player feel wanted (by drastically under valuing them)?

A lot of supporters would like to believe otherwise, But I for one knew this would come out sooner or later.

If we think 11m is drastically over priced then when why get involved with a silly offer?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - or perhaps we just didn't want to pay any more for a player making public statements about how he wanted to play for Man Utd or Chelsea? This story in the papers is complete fantasy bull. He never wanted to come, so we didn't push the move as hard as we could. If he had been so desperate to come as the nonsense alleges, the club would have pushed harder to get him.}

This reminds me a lot of torres's comments after he left us. I agree with the poster above, this is just a political comment.

Interesting from Salah's representative. It pretty much confirms L, pool approach to negotiations. The whole article ( International Business Times)

Pretty much a lot of very low offers, over a long period of times. Then someone else comes in and we then up the offer but not enough. I suppose if you where a player it would come across a lack of ment

"Salah would be Liverpool player today if Liverpool had been serious and closed the deal in December. It would have been very easy then but after two month of unsuccessful negotiations Chelsea closed the signing in less than a week.

"The player preferred to play at Liverpool, as the competition for playing time would have been lower, but at the same time he is more than happy to be a Chelsea man."

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He could have turned chelsea down if he really wanted to play for us. Therefore he didn't want to play for us.
Pretty disrespectful to chelsea I think to say this now.
Both parties should just move on

Agree0 Disagree0

My sentiments exactly. He`s trying to play both teams and both sides of the ball like a plolitician. He should shut up and lie in the bed he already made.

Interesting quote from International business times

"Salah was disappointed with Liverpool", the source told IBTimes UK.

Liverpool cooled off on the negotiations because they wanted to force Basel's hand with the timing of the deal. Then, in early January, they launched a new offer, "which exceeded the previous but still was not enough to consider acceptable".

The Egyptian and his entourage were worried that Liverpool were not taking the deal seriously, while Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid showed interest in the player.

Salah immediately ruled out a move to either of the German sides as he did not like the Bundesliga, and although he was very attracted to the idea of moving to La Liga, Atletico manager Diego Simeone did not want to do the deal until the summer, while Salah was keen to move immediately.

Fearful that offers from other teams could tempt Salah, the Reds approached the player again. "Despite his initial disappointment, Salah was still dreaming about playing for Liverpool" IBT's source said.

However, the bid, around £11m, was once again too low for Basel.

Meanwhile, Chelsea decided to sell Juan Mata to Manchester United and Jose Mourinho asked his officials to sign Salah as a replacement for the Spaniard.

The Blues launched a bid to hijack Liverpool and "only then, knowing that they were set to suffer a huge setback, Liverpool made a serious offer" according to our source.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

YWN. He should be quiet and enjoy the bench.

if I remember correctly Paul Ince Snr. demanded his son got first team football or he was leaving, he allegedly stormed into Kenny's office! I could be wrong of course? if we had re-signed Ince jr. we would have 1. had the ego to deal with, and 2. the father's attitude! I never think of Ince Snr as a Liverpool player, funny that!

Hi eds and fellow reds
Not sure if this has been covered since the window closed and I may need to move on from the subject (player) but do you think Konoplyanka could well be a Liverpool player in the summer? I know its a long way off but he seemed to want to join us last week and that is the kind of player we need at the club, someone who wants to and is proud to be a Liverpool player! He would improve the starting 11, and give sturridge and suarez (if he is still with us) the chance to play through the middle! As I said, the summer is a long way off, but can we gauge if he will still be of interest come the window reopening or will hopefully getting into the UCL spots mean we go for different options who may not have been as realistic without CL?

P.s. loving the optimism about staying in the top 4 from now til mid may! A win on saturday would give us a massive boost towards our goal. We need to keep believing, get behind he boys and make anfield a cauldron of fear for opposing sides, starting with the gooners this weekend.

Solve our 3rd striker problem by selling Aspas & selling Borini to Udinese plus money from selling Aspas for Luis Muriel.

Eds is Adnan Januzaj better then our youngsters?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - how do you quantify that? In some respects he is, in others no. He is a different type of player from any we have in our system, so comparisons are useless.}

Come on Eds he's a stunning footballer, I wish we had a young player coming as talented. The fact our young players don't get game time shows they are not good enough even when we are a few goals up Brendan still doesn't want to play the.
Januzaj can slot into Utd first team, strong, quick, eye for goal and same type of determination as Rooney.
Credit where it's due he is a class act.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he has the potential to be a class act, right now he is very skilful but has a tendency to lose the ball due to trying to do too much. He needs to work on his movement as well, right now it is not good and his defensive positioning is awful. He can float past players with ease and will always create openings, but he is still learning how to make the most of those openings and when to pass, shoot or cross. As for our young players not getting game time, do you mean Sterling? He is playing, and is playing just as well, if not better than Januzaj right now. Only to be expected though, youngsters go through highs and lows, they are always inconsistent. As for getting into the United team, that is not difficult when they are quite as poor as this current team are.}

Also needs to sort out his habit of kissing the grass too easily as well.

We have Sterling (first team football), Suso (first team football in Spain), Flanagan and Kelly (first team football) and Henderson (who has played every minute so far).

That not enough young talent on display that you have to pine longingly over Adnando Bambi-Legs?

Agree0 Disagree0

From what I've seen I'd say Harry Wilson is the nearest comparison to Januzaj. Obviously not at the same level yet, but of the same ilk.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - even if he does succeed, it is still only a temporary situation as he is not going to be there for more than 5 years. Plus we still need cover for injuries and illness.}

Total lack of class by Paul Ince who must be desperate for either money or recognition reverting to newspaper articles claiming Liverpool missed out on his son. The man NEVER HAD class, a very poor manager ie his repeated sacking from jobs bears witness to that and now riding on the back of his son who is a fair player but clearly NOT GOOD ENOUGH for Liverpool. Palace (with respect) is probably his level.
I am beginning to understand what a few fans have hinted about Paul Ince.
Must be terrible not to be loved by neither United nor Liverpool. nor anywhere he's managed. Sad.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If we made a loan offer for Ince and he chose Palace, it's fair to say we missed out on him. This is a guy who played for us, he is talented and he can only get better. As for Ince Sr, again, this is a guy who chose to come to us after playing for our bitter rivals, also scored for us against them! No harm in him being honest. Give them a break

Agree0 Disagree0

Ive asked this before but didn't get a reply. what's peoples opinion of inces time with us? I always thought he did.really well and was a cracking midfielder?

Following on from the optomistic posts for top 4, I feel 10 plus points from our next five games and we're in a great spot for top 4.

Personally wins agains Fulham swanswea and Sunderland will be key.

Personally in this time on a unbiased basis I see Tottenham and Everton getting 8 points a piece with the teams dropping points against each other this week and away against Newcastle and Chelsea who they both have in the next 5.

All assumptions of course but this will give us a minimum of 4 and 5 points respectively gap over the two teams going into the last 9 games which imo would be a fantastic place to be in!.

Thoughts reds?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Its possible? The thing is though were thought to be having a good to great season? Whereas if you talk to spurs fans they think/know/believe their having an atrocious season! Yet they are still on our coat tails! Arsenal could still yet catch a cold? Everton I think already have?

Agree0 Disagree0

Chiswick compared to last season we are having a good season and if we beat Arsenal on weekend we are then on the coat tails of the leading 3

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes and we thought we were a shoe in for 3 points against West Brom and look how that fiasco turned out.
Let's stop with the 'we need x points' and let's just take it game by game and see what happens.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mate, Everton are still very much in the race. The Spurs fans clearly need to have their ambitions put in check if they think that 3 points off top 4 at this point is a bad season. West Brom away was always going to pose problems, however we caught them at a good time to take all 3 points. Think of it an opportunity missed but we are still in the driving seat.

If your surname begins with "C" it is easy - boy or girl, their first and middle names must begin with "L" and "F" - initials LFC. If your surname does not end in "C" then maybe you give them two middle names so their initals are "LFC_"

Hello Ed's,
Heard that Seydou Keita said he was near a move to Liverpool as a free agent this January but chose Valencia instead. What type of impact do you think his signing to lfc would have made and do you think these are the right types of players to be targeting?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I don't rate him at all. He is quick and tall, but awkward on the ball. Never understood why on earth Barca wanted him, until I found out how bad their finances are and that he was initially very cheap.}

So I guess it seems like another desperate last minute attempt from lfc to sign someone. ed 001 do you think there will be any changes to the way the transfer committee aproaches business in the summer? Do you think John Henry will have a talk with them and Ayre about transfer negotiations. I assume this summer will also be a difficult market due to the world cup and players will not want to move until afterwards.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it wasn't a desperate last minute attempt at all. It was a player available on a free being targeted to provide some cover in midfield due to Lucas being injured. Not a player I personally like, but I would say he is better than another player we had considered in Diame. They are very similar, gangly, awkward players who run around a lot and look like they are doing a lot more than they actually are.}
