Eds and reds,
Have Liverpool shown any interest in a player currently at Lille?

P*sses me off so much when people say we are useless without Suarez! two things.
1) first five games. No Suarez, not too shabby
2 if we could (could being the key word before anyone starts moaning) start with a midfield and attack of
Gerrard Lucas
Sterling hendo coutinho
Sturridge
I'm sure it would be a better performance and result, not to mention Oldham were probably hyped up considerably after last years result, and the fact they are underdogs!

It Piss me off reading your post.
Suarez like Messi or ronaldo is a game changer. let's not go back to the first 5 game where we won home and away with single goal and almost ouplayed by opposition.

Keep aside Suarez, I am happy with the attacking set up, But Gerrard and Lucas?. Mate go and watch Spurs game. the only reason we won was our Midfield.
You simply have 0 clue on how we played. We are poor when Gerrard and Lucas starts, Gerrard is a legend, But he simply doesn't last 90 mts.

Agree0 Disagree0

Any team that has a stand out player will get accused of being a one man team, simple as that. It is highlighted even more if that player is a striker. Is Man City better with Kompany? The answer is yes, but they aren't a one man team. Obviously we are better with Suarez in our team, but as you say, if we took him out and put Sturridge in we are still pretty good. We were supposedly a one man team for many years with Gerrard - just because he was so much better than everyone else. It will always happen if you have an outstanding player in your team. Some reckon the same with Barca and Messi - they are better with him for sure, but they get on Ok without him too. Let them talk their drivel - cus that's all it is.

Agree0 Disagree0

Harry scouser, what a ridiculous comment?! You wouldn't play gerrard and Lucas in a Liverpool midfield?! My point basically was, even without Suarez we have a decent team, and undoubtably gerrard and Lucas would be in that team!

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jan 2014 20:23:15
Harry scouser is spot on!
Anyone who claims we were lookin good for the first 5/6 games of the season clearly did not watch them live.
The second half of each of those games we were simply awful, but did well to hang on.
The 'old' Stevie G is gone. we just need to use him wisely, and as for Suarez, we knew he was good but did anyone really expect him to produce the sort of stuff that any fan in the land would pay to see! I had us for top 6 at the start. now think we will be fightin for 4th.
(the first line of Harry's post cheered me up no end.cheers)

Banter please Ed,

Gents,

I need a favour please>>>
Our strikers are dropping like skittles. Giroud out, bendtner out, now Walcott out for a month.

Any chance we could borrow Suarez until the end of the season? Pretty please.
(please reply without swearing, lol)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He's worth at least a quid more than free to borrow surely. at least Wenger will probably think so!

Agree0 Disagree0

Something tells me the hallowed Arsenal cheque-book may get dusted down for another surprise outing this month. I am sure you guys will be o.k :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Dagenham gunner,
I do not believe at this time a sufficient offer from arsenal for Luis Suarez would be accepted. However, if you were to offer us Wilshere and Ramsey in January I am sure we would consider thinking about a bid from you guys for Luis Suarez in the summer.
Hope this will suffice your request,
Phenom

Agree0 Disagree0

Phenom,

How about Wilshere and Ramsey for Suarez and Courtinho?

Shake on it? (and we will also throw in that famous £1) lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Ive already told you, his wife won't let him anywhere near you, a solicitor has been hired :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Dagenham gunner

Podolsky is back for you. and he will bang in goals with Ozil and Cazorla. This is your year.

Man City will have an ego bust amongst them as soon as Kompany or Toure gets injured.

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe you should try Jovetic?

Agree0 Disagree0

Vrcomp, thank you kind sir.

mgz, yep we have Podolski back but he's a lot more effective on the left wing, but he is an option upfront.

bobatron, nah don't like Jovetic mate, he's had a mare at City so far lol

Agree0 Disagree0

No Saurez mate, but if you sign Torres I promise not to boo him when you boys come to Anfield.

Agree0 Disagree0

DG,

Seriously mate, this infatuation is becoming unhealthy. Even when he was in his prime, I never chased after John Barnes like you do Suarez. Ahhh Barnesy in those snug 80's kits.what a sight to behold! Bet he was glad the 90's and those baggier shorts turned up when they did.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol BobbyF,

I bet you even bought the England song that he sang and I bet you could even do "The John Barnes Rap" lol.

Mark E Smith, Torres at his best? yes please mate, top dollar he was.

Agree0 Disagree0

No way could I emulate Barnsey's rapping. I think of myself more of a Rick Astley figure.

All together now 'never going to give you up, never going to let you down. '

Agree0 Disagree0

You can't beat a little bit of Rick Astley mate lol

Hai eds. great work.

Nothing Liverpool Related.
But If Southampton doesn't win anything this year. then it has to be a crime.
What a quality team. they are just pulling Chelsea all
together.

Liverpool.

God to see us loosing, which helps to analyse where we are.
Take out Suarez from that starting 11. and it looks an average team with tonz of money spend.

Good luck to Liverpool for the next game

Good result today, not crazy about the performance.

I wish you all a belated happy new year

Hey ed01, do you think we are going to sign BOTH tello and salah?
And if this (theoretically) happens, how do you see our line-up shaping up? We could be in for an interesting spring, with salah, tello, cou, sterling and sturidge fighting for 2-3 positions depending on opposition?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - no, I don't expect us to sign Tello personally.}

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jan 2014 20:57:05
Hi eds
Didn't get chance to see the game today and no doubt highlights won't be very helpful to see how the game was.
Was wondering how Alberto, Kelly and aspas got on?
Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I have no interest in soccer Alex so can't help. There was something written earluier you could read.}

Alberto had a steady first half without doing anything spectacular.

Kelly was pretty solid throughout at RB and CB without being too much of an attacking threat.

Aspas had a poor first half like most of the team but played a bit better in the second half once the changes were made and the movement within the team was better.

As for Moses he had a very poor game again and doesn't seem to fit in with the pass and move game that were trying to play.

Sterling had another good game but was wasteful in the first half, he got even better when moved to RB once Agger went off.

Agree0 Disagree0

Moses is lazy pure and simple. The lad has the tools at his disposal to be a good player but his work ethic is just shocking - has never looked happy since making the loan move to us and has never really performed either. A damning indictment of his attitude which is bang out of order, he doesn't deserve to play football for anyone.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jan 2014 20:35:34
Really feel we're wasting a loan signing on Moses. If possible we should return him in January like we did with Sahin last year.

If the stories are true that Tello will be arriving on loan and Salah signing we would those two plus Sterling and Ibe to play wide.

It would also free up some wages, and leave us with the option of an additional loan signing to come in.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't think you will see him start another game regardless to whether he goes back or not. A simply dire 45 minutes. Gutless and completely anonymous. I simply refuse to believe there is nobody in the academy that could be given a chance instead.

Agree0 Disagree0

He was Shocking today lazy sprung to mind.
Even my 8 year spotted how bad he was.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would go so far as to say not bothered actually.

Agree0 Disagree0

A tad harsh to say he wasn't bothered. it's more accurate to say that our supposedly inproved scouting system isn't very good at identifying the right players for the right positions
ANFIELDPETE

Agree0 Disagree0

How do you know moses wasnt 6th in line and they couldn't get any of there preffered choices.possible

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't bash our scouting team
if m nt wrong then ed 001 said that he was a Rodgers signing and our management team didn't want him and they felt that he wouldn't work

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jan 2014 20:02:48
Was talking about it with my mate so thought I'd see if anyone was interested. Who are the best players you've ever seen based on watching them actually at the match? Only been able to go to a handful of games over the last 6 or so years so most of mine are newer players but:

1. Suarez (seen him a number of times but the 5-1 at Anfield confirmed it, had probably the best two goals I've seen a player score and the performance was outstanding)
2. Stevie (seen him numerous times over the past 6 years and has always be one of or the best on the pitch, just pure class)
3. Torres (close with 4th but saw him during his first year and was an incredible player, remember his first goal against Chelsea and scored nearly every time I watched him.
4. Scholes (always though he was a good player but never understood the hype, until I saw him at Anfield. Unbelievable ability and think every pass was just about perfect)

Have seen any great players like Rooney or Drogba but when I saw them live just weren't as good as the others above. Curious about anyone else's particularly older player (like Barnes compared to Suarez) from someone who saw them in the flesh.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Put King Kenny in between Suarez and Stevie

Agree0 Disagree0

Went to a Real - Barca derby and Zidane came on as a substitute. He was just different class and made everyone else look average - which is one hell of a feat with those two teams. He just oozed quality.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thought Barnes and Beardsley were just a cut above the rest, Jan Molby, just the best centre midfielder I've ever seen(even above Alonso), always had time on the ball and the most wonderful passer.

Agree0 Disagree0

1. John Barnes

2. George Best

3. Bobby Moore

Believe me Louis Suarez is up there as well!

Agree0 Disagree0

Messi, Ronaldinho, Cruyff, Ronoldo, and for us Suarez, Kenny, Barnes, Stevie G plus many more

Agree0 Disagree0

I have had the chance of watching Ronaldinho at Bernabeau when he was towards the end of his career with AC Milan. I was amazed at what he could do with the ball even then.

It will take a lot for anyone to replace that.

Agree0 Disagree0

Barnes Stevie alonso and Suarez oh and molby was twice a scholes IMO

Ynwa

Agree0 Disagree0

Best I've seen in the flesh is Messi, although he didn't have that good a game. Arbeloa made his debut and kept him out of the game.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jealous about seeing Zidane, one of my favourite players and wish I could have seen him play. Same goes for Brazilian Ronaldo as well, two favourite players of all time would have loved to have seen them play in person

Agree0 Disagree0

Steven Gerrard against Olypiacos. I'd put that goal at that moment the greatest thing I've ever witnessed. Beats seeing all the class players I've seen including Zidane, Messi, Ronaldinho, Batistuta. Would of love'd to seen Eusebio mind,, R.I.P from everyone who loves football

Agree0 Disagree0

I saw Barca play a couple of years back at the Nou Camp, Xavi gave an absolute masterclass. Unbelievable.

Agree0 Disagree0

It may seem odd choices but when I was young I saw Kevin Keegan up close a couple of times and he was
unbelievably sharp and electric. Also Alonso away against Fulham came on and changed the game.

Wish I had seen the 70's Dutch world cup team

Here is a question for you Ed02. I am going to hire an RV and spend 3/4 weeks in America in Summer of 2015. So, with your infinite knowledge, where would you go? Bearing in mind I have 3 kids (not including the wife) between 6 and 16. As this would be the first time with my kids I am thinking the East Coast but would be happy to avoid the Disney hype. Also any good websites for overnight stays with RV's obviously. Any regular posters any ideas? Its a bit mind boggling on the internet without any real knowledge. Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - You need to know:
East Coast - Nothing but noisy whining and bitching. A bit like here after a loss.
North East - Roads slippery all year round due to leaves. Tend to whine a lot. Bit like here after a draw.
South East - Disney, unsafe and poor - avoid at all costs.
Midwest through to the Deep South - Dumbfuckinstan. Will probably try to kill you.
West - Four corner states are genuinely welcoming and nice people. You can legally buy dope in Colorado and the mountains are great. Northern New Mexico is fab, the south of New Mexico dire. Arizona dry but a great place to hang out. Nevada - avoid unless you wish to visit Las Vegas.
West Coast - Take a fly drive from Seattle (or even Vancouver in Canada which is 200 miles north) down to San Diego using the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH/Route 1). Start close to where I was born in the Pacific Northwest and head south down the highway through the pine forests and mountains of Washington State (visit Mt St Helens) and Oregon. Hang out in the small commuities. Northern California is spectacular with the Redwoods - visit Mendocino. Call in to Marin and Mill Valley to see my mother - say hi from me. Sausalito is a blast - visit the No Name Bar and hear my old buddies Joe Tate play his Uke and Maggie Catfish sing. Cross the bridge in to San Francisco and the Bay Area where I was raised. Spend a few days - hang out in North Beach, visit the Haight then south to Cannery Row in Monterey. Big Sur is woth the overnight stop then south past the beaches to Santa Barbara - also worth a stop. There is nothing to see in LA and the people whine a lot (assumed to all be Liverpool supporters). South to Laguna Beach then on to San Diego. If you have a couple of days spare - head inland at LA and out to the Desert Cities (Palm Springs et al). A lot of 50s archetecture, real fun towns and that dry desert heat.

Head west young man. I am on the road right now with poor bar lighting - I will let you have some web sites later in the week - remind me.}

Stuck in an RV with your wife and kids?
Yeah a visit to Colorado is needed there. Haha

Agree0 Disagree0

Woah Ed002. I'm from America and that's a pretty rough description. I haven't been west but I have to say east coast has been a common place to vacation for my family. Myrtle beach is a blast, Panama City beach in Florida was fun; I went to Orlando studios at about 14 and I hate riding rides; we had tons of fun. There is something there for everyone. Just sucks having to wait in line for hours for rides. Avoid northeast unless you're in like Maine territory. I'm a country guy so I'm not fond of certain city people, most New England territories are very hectic. Don't like impatient people, Including Ohio.

That being said I bet you'll have fun in the States. I wanna retire and spend a year with Liverpool season tickets when I'm older.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I will admit I like Ashvile NC (slightly).}

Lol, cheers ed. Will do.

Agree0 Disagree0

La could be a good spot for a Liverpool supporters bar.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - LA is not realy a good spot for anything - I had a "lost" summer in the Hollywood Hills back in 1974.}

Eds answer might be good for you and your mrs Irish but give a thought for the kids, how can you spend that long in the US and not take them to Florida. You don't have to do Disney but you would enjoy it depending what month you went, Universal is also good for the kids and you could take a drive down to the keys or Alligator alley and take an air boat ride.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The kids and parents would, I am sure, much rather get naked on the beaches of Norther California and play with a frisbee than ride the devil's roller-coaster.}

05 Jan 2014 20:50:20
ha, great reply ed002, the lfc fan interpretations really made me laugh!

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't listen to anything that dude says. I am writing this poolside from Orlando where I have spent 8 days visiting Disney and Universal. great time. I'm also from Los Angeles and it is one of the truly unique cities in America. and for the record, it's mostly full of bandwagon United, Chelsea and Barca fans. If you see a Liverpool top on someone you know they're a proper fan because let's face it, we've endured quite a bit in the last few years. My favorite cities in the US are New York (a must see), Austin (great college town with amazing food), Vegas ( a must see for the first timer, plus you can hit Grand Canyon), and LA and San Diego. San Fran is great too and Seattle is beautiful. But people from the Pac Northwest are all bitter because they've grown up in pouring rain so they're generally unhappy people.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Those of us born in the Pacific Northwest left. Those who remain afe there because of Microsoft or Boeing. You have ridden the devil's roller-coaster - and been brainwashed.}

Ed I hope your none of your time growing up in the Bay area was spent on a certain island :)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It was shut around th time arrived and later occupied by some Native Indians.}

Hi Irish - good advice from Ed002 there. West coast is the place to go. We did a trip this summer down the Pacific Coast Highway from San Francisco to San Diego then across to Las Vegas. It was great. There is so much to see. We started in SF then stayed in Carmel for a couple of days. The aquarium in nearby Monterey is a must. The next bit down Big Sur was great too (not so good further south and a real grind through LA). With an RV worth stopping in one of the parks with Redwoods, somewhere like Pfeiffer State Park (I think). Hearst Castle another "must do", so was Sea World in San Diego, and I doubt if you will get away without a visit to Disney in LA. If you have time you might try a detour to Yosemite at the start or over to Las Vegas at the end.

Agree0 Disagree0

Apart from the past LFC greats, Dalglish, Barnes etc, was lucky enough to visit the Bernabeu back in 2006 and watched them play Real Zara. Cannavaro, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldo and Co were fantastic. One past Liverpool player who didn't set the world alight but had unbelievable vision and was always a step ahead when it came to receiving and making a pass was Jari Litmanem. Don't know if anyone agrees?.

Agree0 Disagree0

All hail king ed002

Agree0 Disagree0

Everyone I have spoken to who is either from America or has visited America and recommended San Francisco and a visit to the redwood forest. That's not much to go on I know but if I was going to America that's where I'd be headed.

Agree0 Disagree0

The Bay Area was was a big thrash metal scene, are you into thrash metal Ed002?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No, I don't think so.}

The drive along the coast road from Bodega Bay to Mendocino is something that should be experienced by everyone. It is truly gorgeous. Mendocino is a lovely place. The wine is good and the redwoods are amazing.

Agree0 Disagree0

I've frequented the state's a few times, worked in los Angeles and loved it there but aside from universal studios there's not much there for the kids, it can also be pricey. If you're passing through California it's worth checking Anaheim. Personally I found the people of LA to be very friendly.

I've also been to Chicago and found it to be a great city.

Nevada

Agree0 Disagree0

I think some of the descriptions of New England are way wide of the mark. I've lived in New England my whole life and find it quite nice. You'll find the Winey impatient cry babies everywhere you go so to categorize all of NE like that is shocking. Some good places to visit are Cape Cod (beautiful beaches, scenic roads, fantastic seafood). Boston is brilliant if you're into history and such but I wouldn't recommend visiting in an RV as the roads are a bit dodgy and parking is bad. Laconia New Hampshire also as some fine beaches, great scenic roads and highways. One of the worlds largest arcades in Funspot. Also tons of hiking, kayaking and fishing. All along the east coast there are fun and exciting things to do. And before you say " you've never been anywhere else or try and mug me off, I've been to. 40/50 states and been to Multiple countries world wide.

At least we're through. To the next round. It didn't seem a great game, although I didn't see or listen to it. Good to see aspas on the score sheet.

Eds how did Alberto and Aspas play generally please?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No idea.}

Alberto subbed at half time so not great I imagine.

Well spent 7 mil :D

Agree0 Disagree0

Aspas didn't look that good. Back to goal to much for me. Good goal though. Alberto looked ok with few tricks and shots. Give the ball away too much. Subbed at half time.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jan 2014 19:36:28
From listening to it, it seemed to me that Alberto played fairly well and Aspas wasn't great until he scored.

But BR subbed Alberto at HT, so maybe he was rubbish and the radio commentary was just misleading.

Agree0 Disagree0

Apparently from reports read Alberto did well, and there was a degree of surprise that he was taken off.

Moses apparently didn't do much, but I'm only going by reports I've read.

Agree0 Disagree0

Alberto look very good for first 30 mins then started giving the ball away upto halftime.

Agree0 Disagree0

Alberto did ok. Probably the best I have seen him play at Anfield but that's not really saying a lot I suppose. The main problem was that Stevie at DM just was not working. There was just no real creativity going forward. I was really happy to see Lucas come on. It changed the whole complexion of the game. Far more so that even Coutinho's introduction, in my humble opinion.

As for the others: Aspas was ok. Poor first half but the goal did him the world of good. Never gave up either.

Moses was dire. See my post above. I could post all night about how poor I think he is. Its hard to know if Coutinho made a difference because he is genuinely brilliant or just that Moses was genuinely crap. I think probably a little of both.

Agree0 Disagree0

Off the guys coming in and trying to prove a point.
Asapas very quiet first half slightly better second and got the goal but not an encouraging display at all against lower level team.
Alberto, very surprised took off at half time, nothing spectacular but wanted to get on the ball and some good short passing and two shots at goal, one curler wide and a powerful shot on target parried away, not shy to have a crack, thought he did pretty well to be honest.
Moses, rubbish.
Kelly not pressured too much but pretty steady.
Agger & Toure, no real test wouldn't use this game to judge either way.

why oh why are we suffering with so many injuries? I feel this season we could be doing much better than we are if we had a full strength squad for most of it, but we havnt. Just when news of sturridge and allen returning to the side and with flanno coming back soon as well, we had to lose agger to injury. Although it hasn't been said how severe the injury is or for how long he will be out, let's hope its only for a short time, but knowning aggers injury troubles it might be for a while. Many people said BR was foolish for having 4 CB's and that we should have sold skrtl in the summer, well look at how we are now. Both agger and sakho injured, leaving only skrtl and toure as first team players. Illori is for the future as most have guessed. If anything I assume BR will put Kelly as CB.Maybe we should bring back carragher like manu did for scholes. The injury to agger in no way means we are dipping back in the transfer market for another CB, that would deffinitly be foolish. let's just hope its only for a short time he's on the sidelines. Glad to hear Aspas got a goal in the game today. Hearing people say the team wasnt playing good, which would obviously be the case when most fringe players are playing but glad they all got some time to play their game and glad for the win.

Gutted that the match isn't televised, but LFC TV match commentary will do I suppose.

On another note, I feel sorry for Mata who can't even get a start in the FA Cup.

Red Rum

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think, Mourinho doesn't think he's a player needed to move Chelsea forward, surprising as Mata is a tremendous player in my opinion, he's not the quickest but he's technically excellent and has a quality to his game. Shame we can't take him as he's someone who would help us move forward.

Agree0 Disagree0

Chelski would be nuts to let us have Mata, on loan or whatever, but Mo is impossible and the owner had too much money to care, so anything could happen. Would he be any good for us? For sure, he's an excellent player and would provide vision, drive and quality

Agree0 Disagree0

Same here, would love to have him at Liverpool. can't see him coming though because Chelsea would want 30m+ for him, and even though I think he's worth that, its too much to pay for a player that's not playing at Chelsea. I just think it comes down to style of play, Mourinho is more of a counter attacking manager, Mata is a player that likes to settle on the ball and therefore doesn't fit into the system. Its a pity as I think he is one of the best attacking midfielders in the world, along with the likes of Iniesta, Ozil, Silva etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You appreciate that Mata has played in more games than Suarez so far this season?}

Figures don't portray the real story in this case ed. Mata clearly wants more game time.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - All players who are not regular starters want to be playing as often as possible.}

Both Juan Mata and Luis Suarez had made 17 appearances for their respective clubs, before today's matches.

Suarez had now got 1 more appearance than Mata, as Liverpool have recently brought him on.

Chelsea are in 3 competitions, compared to Liverpool's 2 (and lasted a little longer than us in the Carling Cup too).

Plus, Suarez also had to miss 5 of our games this season.

Either way, it is surely not up for debate which player at this precise moment in time is considered more valuable by their respective clubs?
(I think we actually appreciate Mata more than Chelsea?!)

So, don't think it's as black and white as just thinking about appearance figures.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes I know that Ed but I was thinking more in times of games he completed. I mean Suarez has completed almost every game for us this season, but Mata has completed 2 PL games for Chelsea. In comparison to last season where he completed almost every game he was fit to play in, he hasn't had a fair run of games really this season. Mourinho looks to have chosen Hazard, Oscar and Willian as his trio to play behind the striker, so I expect Mata to play even less now. Mourinho can't get the best out of him because of his style of play, and Mata can't play to his full potential in a counter attacking team. Up until last season I played, then I had to stop due to school and personal stuff. But the last season I played I was in Mata's situation. I'm more of a playmaker myself and like to keep hold of the ball. The team I played for played counter attacking football. Now I was still a regular in the team, but I felt uncomfortable playing on the counter and couldn't really get a grasp of it. I finished the season with 7 goals and 9 assists in 18 games, but the season before that I had 11 goals and 14 assists in 20 games in a possession based team in the same league. Not saying Mata is anywhere near as good as me (joke!) but just really trying to get across my point. Sorry if I didn't make it clear Ed!
Cheers,

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You might want to think about how many of the first half dozen games Suarez completed. Chelsea has a squad of players and Mata is on. The manager has made it clear he wants him to stay. The club would not stand in the way of him leaving should the player say that (which he hasn't) and a suitable offer made - and that hasn't happened either.}

Do you think he deserves more game time ed002 in a honest fans opinion that is of course

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - He is a squad member and the team picked from that squad has to be the best available for the game in front of them. It is not kids in a schollyard picking their friends.}

05 Jan 2014 15:19:37
To those asking for Illori, Rossiter et al, bear in mind this team beat us last season.
We saw Villa get beaten yesterday and Rodgers has obviously played it a little safe, a good option in my opinion. We have members of our first team who need minutes, and so they get minutes today, strengthening our Premiership squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

You've got the wrong end of the stick I wanted more kids and less senior players I wanted ilori, McLaughlin, smith, rossiter etc

Agree0 Disagree0

Some of the senior players such as Aspas and Alberto cost the club good money and need game time, so I think that is where the club's priority should lay. We haven't got Europe this season, so there is less games to go around.

I know its the silly season but can we please stop with the twitter nonsense, to call it an unreliable source is a massive understatement. The ed's put so much time and effort into this site the last thing any of the deserve is abuse because they have dismissed some rubbish from twitter.
This early in the transfer window things don't change from hour to hour so constantly asking about Hughes, Salah, Tello is nothing more than a pain.
By the way if the club could get those three in this transfer window it would be fantastic.

Is anyone else slightly disappointed in the team selection for today? Was hoping to see Rossiter get some minutes but he's not even in the matchday squad! Also would have liked to see Jordan Ibe get a run out and give Sterling a well deserved rest. Anyway its nice to see Ilori on the bench and would be good to see him on the pitch at some time if were winning comfortably, and nice to see Cameron Brannagan on the bench aswell. He's only 17 and i've been really impressed when I've seen him for the under21's this season, he's got good technique and chips in with goals and assists which is what you need to play that position. Looking forward to seeing how Alberto does cause I rate him, and also its good to see Aspas playing in his preferred position so hopefully he can have a good game. Anyway I'm looking forward to the game and hopefully a convincing win! COME ON YOU REDS!

First time poster here at this site Big fan . I would like ask YNWAdam (Since he has good understanding about Scouting ) and the Eds about their opinion abt Rubin Kazan's Bibars Natcho and the Clubs who are interested in him .

YNWA

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I am not Adam or the Eds, however having watched Natcho on a number of occassions for Rubin, he is, IMO, a a slightly above average attacking midfielder who can play in central midfield if required.

Rubin bought him as an indirect replacement for an Argentinian midfielder whose name escapes me now. He has struggled at times, but he reminds me of a LFC reserves player, Joao Carlos Teixiera.

Whenever I have watched Rubin, Eremenko is the guy who used to stand out and Natcho just seemed to struggle, though he has picked up on his form this season I believe.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed030's Note - I wouldn't really be able to add to that, He is of a good enough standard to play regularly in the Russian league and wouldn't be much of an improvement if at all on Liverpool's current attacking options. }

05 Jan 2014 13:38:46
I assume you mean No.66 Bibras Natkho? The attacking midfielder from Israel.

I actually watched a few Russian league game recently mainly to get a look at M'Vila, Dzsudzsak and L.Traore amongst a few others. However this little guy stood out in a few games. I'd actually never heard of him. I thought he had excellent technique though. He is very tricky and creative in the final third. He could do with some work on his link up play as he can be too direct. He has great control of the ball and manipulates it well in terms of both shooting and passing. I've been told by a Rubin fan he is something of a set piece specialist and a scorer of great goals. Although he averages a goal every 4 games across his career he does score a large percentage of his goals from Freekicks/set pieces and he doesn't add much defensively to the midfield. I did a quick bit of research for you and last season he scored 12 and assisted 15 in 54 games across all competitions. This year his league form has been questionable with just 1 goal and 2 assists in 19 games. His Europa league performances have been brilliant though and 3 goals and 5 assists in 7 games gives him a season total of 5 goals and 7 assists in 31 games (all competitions). I am not sure, but he may be out of contract now as Russian contracts usually expire on December the 31st and I know he was in his last year last time I saw him play.

Would I like us to sign him? Personally I don't think he's an upgrade on what we have but he's a good player. Would he take penalties and free kicks for us though? Unlikely. Hope this helps mate.

I just hope we can get him ready to start against the blues, doesn't bother me if he doesn't come back till then.
He can make a huge difference when we play the top teams at home, in big games Suarez often gets isolated, this doesn't happen when Sturridge is with him because his hold up play is excellent, or at least better than anyone else's we have.
Let's not rush him, he could be integral to our season.

Hi Eds, Derby have said this morning that Hughes is not leaving this month, perhaps suggesting that if we have captured him he will not arrive until end of season?

The Rakitic front has gone quite and I don't see it happening, that Badu geezer was just specualtion and he isn't good enough, do you think we are actively looking at central midfifield options to come in The next few weeks or are we happy with what we have?

Hey, Dezmondo, you do seem to be one of a few who jump to the bait seemingly every time it's cast, whether it be a new internet article posted, or an old rumour recycled for the fourteenth times and such. :)

Not having a go at you, it's your choice what you post and I get it, this time of the season can really get folk annoyed and uppity as well as intensified with all the speculation, but ultimately it's the not knowing which can heat the discussions too far. But that is a two way street, even the Ed's are human and can get a bit raggy, so chill and be patient and wait for good news, is my only advice, as a fellow fan who uses this site.

Ed's have shared what they understand. If they get any update/s then they'll share them too. So we are in good company.

my normal websites aren't showing it. or only audio.

thanks for any advice in advance.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It isn't being streamed, that's why you can't find it.

Read this earlier today on rawk:

Trouble is, the FA Cup TV contract is a much cheaper and less comprehensive deal than the Premier League, so if our game isn't properly covered by British TV then no international broadcaster can show it.

Whichever British TV company holds the Premier League highlights rights (currently BBC and Sky) is contractually obliged to film every single game - even the 3pm Saturday games not shown live on British TV - to the standards expected of a modern live TV broadcast (i.e. at least 10 cameras, a full on-location Outside Broadcast production team to insert replays, captions etc as they happen, and an on-location commentary team). Because all of this is done live at the stadium, the Premier League can sell every game to international TV companies.

Meanwhile, the FA Cup contract only requires the British TV highlights rights holder (currently ITV) to film 3 or 4 additional games per round for international audiences (on top of the 5 already shown live on British TV) to the same standards described above (remember, there are 32 games played in the 3rd round so it would be far too expensive to send a full TV crew to all of them. By the 5th Round of the cup there are only 8 games to be played, so every game can be covered by a full TV crew).

Every FA Cup game not picked for comprehensive coverage by the British TV companies will only have barebones coverage for highlights purposes: a few cameras at the ground, no on-site commentator, and no Outside Broadcast team to add live replays etc. Obviously LFC TV can add a commentator and edit in replays etc after the match for their delayed broadcast of the game at midnight UK time, but I doubt they have the rights to put a live package together to show overseas. Even though everyone on this forum would argue that any Liverpool game should be important enough to be selected for extensive TV coverage, the British TV companies are primarily looking for potential shocks, and a Premier League team at home to a lower division side "should" be a easy-but-boring-for-neutral-viewers home win (famous last words, I know!).

Yeah Ozone. Under Kenny.

Reid. that's his game and its up to other teams to stop him, we all have to play to our strengths not just in football. so I can't fault anyone for that.

Who just watched the Colts overcome a 28 point deficit. Andy Reid's time management is really bad and Andrew Luck is a really real good stud. Feel for the Chiefs!

{Ed001's Note - took me a while to figure out what you meant! No worries mate, it is only a recent change in the transfer rules.}

Hi fellow reds and Eds

Just a question, please forgive me if you've already answered this:

What happened to the Mexican youth player that was on trial a couple of years ago? Obviously he did not make it, or did he, somewhere else?

Many thanks
P.S. there's reports that Basel have agreed price with us and it's just player's terms, is this true or half true?

thanks guys, you're doing a fantastic job!

{Ed001's Note - Marco Bueno? He is currently out on loan from parent club Pachuca to Estudiantes Tecos, still in Mexico. He has not lived up to expectations yet, but he is still only 19, so plenty of time to prove himself.}

Bit of fun and controversy here lads!
Just a little game, if you had to choose one player from Everton to add to our team who would it be?

My choice:- Seamus Coleman

Reason:- Comfortable on the ball, fast, defensively sound, and a threat going forward. He has everything the modern day defender should have, and in my opinion, an upgrade on Johnson.

Remember lads its only a bit of fun, so leave your comments below and give a reason if you want.
Cheers!

Ross Barkley

Leighton Baines.
For the exact same reasons you want Seamus Coleman, but an upgrade on Jose Enrique.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gotta be Barkley surely. After that Baines because we need a left back.

Agree0 Disagree0

Baines. Comfortable on the ball, fast, defensively sound, a threat going forward etc and imo more of an upgrade on 'any of our LB' even though Johnsons ^^^^

Agree0 Disagree0

Barkley for me

Agreed coleman best right back in the league at the moment

Agree0 Disagree0

Lukaku if that counts if not baines

Agree0 Disagree0

I would say Coleman too, but now that you said it, I would say Barkley of course. But if Delofeu was a permanent player, maybe I would have chosen him.

has to be barkley with gerrard in the twlight of his career what a replacement that would be, but let's hope rossitter is going to be the replacement, these 2 could be battling it out in Liverpool Manchester United matches for years to come.lol
