Sigurdsson is a spurs player now. He wants to line his pockets, his choice, Lets move on. Potentially we could have rameriz instead who is a better young player with the potential to be worldclass. He has been linked to all the top clubs in Europe so if we snatch him,it will be a real steel and a great bit of businesss. Striker wise, it has been quiet but heyy we do things quietly and I believe we will sign some real talent this window. As always' have faith'

Melbourne'

I don't think we need a striker as we have carrol and Suarez. We will also only play with one up top and Suarez wide. I would love if we got Munian and Ramirez. I also understand that Rodgers states that he may look to play without a striker at some stage.

Have it on strong authority Dynamo - Magician Impossible is going to make Aquilani disappear

Veloso...

It would be a more impressive trick if he made him appear!

just to match current liverpool fc with no 1 spain team..
how it can be...

suarez can be our fabregas
j.cole can be our iniesta
aquilani can be our alonso
gerrard can be our xavi
lucas can be our busquet
who can be our silva?

j.cole.......suarez......???
aquilani.....lucas...gerrard..

Linking joe cole to iniesta was bad but aquilani to alonso takes the biscuit. well done, blue peter badge for trying.
derryred

Iniesta is leagues above Joe Cole for a start. I would take Alonso back every time over Aquilani.

For me Lucas is far better than biscuits

Ramirez but dont ever compare aquilani to alonso like that again

None of those players play like the other.

BthekingB

Cole iniesta HAA

Gaston Ranirez

Has Aquilani actually came out and said recently that he is unwilling to play for Liverpool, or is that what was that said in the past? I personally feel if he wants to give it another go we should allow him to show if he is a good player. We need creativity, and if he can provide some performances like when he was getting MOTM like every game he played, then i'd happily take him.

RDR

I have hardly missed a game in seasons... when was Aquilani getting MOTM every game? He had a very brief bit of good form in Benitez' last season, when generally there was a lack of effort, but that's it...

Just like to say if anyone thinks we are getting rvp dream on not going to happen.with players coming back and unable to sell we might only get 2 players 3 at the most I believe there's interest in adam Johnson after the sale of kuyt but that's all I no.

05 Jul 2012 21:37:33
Spearing, Downing and Adam are most likely to be shipped out. Carroll and Henderson will be given a season to prove themselves.

I was under the impression they have already proven themselves..
Davey Liver

Oh, so the people who post the same thing about Downing, Adam, Henderson, and Carroll HAVE CHANGED THEIR TUNE A BIT!?

Oh goodness me... And Spearing now too? Poor hate figures of the club. Wee Jay is the only one likely to leave out of ANY of them, probably..

McSnuggles

Proven them selves??????

Spearing may be allowed to leave.

CNN Italia's correspondent @tancredipalmeri confirms that Gastón Ramírez 100% keen on the move to Liverpool.

05 Jul 2012 21:26:43
whats your view on henderson at liverpool i like the lad myself thanks ???
in brendan we trust {Ed042's Note - i say give him time. but that's just me}

You have to give henderson another year simply because he is young and looked nervous in most games last season, i dont see anything about him that will make him world class or close but he should be given 1 more year, as for charlie adam, jay spearing and even andy carroll, they all need to be shipped out. andy carroll will not suit br's system at all, firstly he cannot close down opposition and press.RedTurk

I like the idea of him beside Lucas somehow.

Shows how blind your hate is RedTurk, Carroll is one of the hardest workers off the ball I've seen, especially towards the end of the season and especially in the EUROS when he played. I read he had more tackles won than Scott Parker during the game, or some ridiculously stupid statistic that proves you utterly incorrect. He works his socks off and closes down plenty. You are blinded by your own hate and ignorance.

McSnuggles

Yh we gotta give him time for 20m but ppl keep saying he'd be so good if he was played behind the striker....i say noooo he is a HM not an attacking minded player but can contribute to the attack with late runs into the box etcc but he should not be played in an advanced position.

Henderson is technically gifted and is also strong quick. You also have to admit that his movement is first class but he lacks confidence. I think if his confidence increases which will probably happen with age we will have a top midfielder on our hands.

for all those asking about Aqua not being in training, its because he has just got married yesterday ,

PINGS

I hope he appreciates that we paid for the lazy get's wedding with almost nothing in return. Never even got an invite!
ANFIELDPETE {Ed016's Note - Agent currently looking to sell the rights for the wedding pictures, although you can only loan them for a certain period.}

Skerts is on honeymoon as well

I hope it was in Italy or else he probably wouldn't show up!

I think BR make a mistake. don't blame Gylfi as he wait until last minute to get a good offer from Liverpool. but BR offer him same amount he agreed with swansea. I belive that Liverpool able to pay a bit more then them . if you really want the player then it's logical. and after hearing BR interview it's clear we want him. people may disagree with me but I feel it's a mistake.

r-r

Can you get over it, some of you sound desperate. the guy is not xabi alonso, nor is he steven gerrard, so shhhhh!!!RedTurk

Why?.. why should lfc pay more than he accepted at swansea.. Half a season on loan n he thinks he can hold lfc to ransom? sorry mate but he just isnt that good!.. he has proved nothing to b demanding more to play for a team as big as lfc.
ItsNotRocketScience

If you are going to go to swansea for a set price and get payed a certain price why should it matter if you make the step up. sure expected of more but thats the chance you get into a big league. you shouldnt get a big big big pay raise for furthering your career when you are doing basically the same thing but you have europa?

Why should we pay more idiot

05 Jul 2012 21:02:17
brendan rodgers is a class act ....i hope things go well for him and we can all be patient and give him time .....i think he will get rid of all the dead wood ....chuck some of the class youngsters in (sterling, suso) and make 3 or 4 signings .....top 4 for us i feel or at least challenging ...ynwa

redsheep

How much more dead wood is there to get rid of? if your talking about adam, downing etc then i think you'd be thinning the squad, they are good squad players just not week in/out starters

05 Jul 2012 20:50:36
BR won't be pushed around regarding Aquilani and he is more than happy to keep him and for him to play a major role in his remoulding of the side as he fits into it perfectly. Alberto will only be sold if an Italian side meet our asking price, otherwise he stays put and his agent has recently stated he'd be happy to remain at Liverpool at the moment as there's no interest in his client. Cole and Pacheco will also stay. Not too many additions bar Gaston Ramirez, a winger and a striker. Expect Suso to be more involved, especially as we're going to be using the Tiki-Taka, which he's grown up with. Sterling will also get a lot more game time. Charlie Adam will be sold to the highest bidder, Maxi will return to either Spain or his native Argentina and Spearing, Jones, Eccleston etc will also all be sold.

YNWA.

The vast majority of people on this site, so I wanted to ask, if manchester city were willing to pay you £100,000 a week and liverpool were willing to pay you £50,000 a week, who would you join? Would you choose the money, and at present, a much better chance of winning trophies, or the fact you could play for the club you support.

Rafa's Purple Goatie

It doesn't matter about money, at the end of the day it's Liverpool FC you could play for. I'd play for Liverpool for 200 years and not win anything than play for city for 1 year and win 3 things

I'd play for liverpool for free.redl4fe

Play for my boyhood team without a shadow of a doubt and scoring a winner in front of the kop you cant putmoney on that

jayblair89

Me liverpool the money would be no issue especially if it was 50 grand a week thats more than enough for me now if you had said £150 at liverpool and 100 grand at man city that is a totally different question an i would have to think about it
giblet

What can you buy with £100,000 a week that you can't buy with £50,000 a week, really?

I know it's obviously double the wages, which seems significant, but it's not as if they're on minimum wage. Their disposable income is astronomical and accumulating all the time.

So I'd choose LFC all day. But that's just me!

Joe

I agree with the second poster... It's not like he's out on site earning £500 a week and someone offered to double it... He's on a lot of money anyway, money we would all dream to earn, look at Bellamy when us and spurs wanted him, he choose to have a liver bird upon his chest rather than a fatter cheque in his pocket.. I'm glad BR told him to stuff it!

G BOX

Wrong site to ask that question lad
FowlerisGod

Wow. That is dedication....

I know I'm going to get a lot of stick for this, but I would rather play for City. If I was a professional, I would be totally out for myself. If someone offers to double my wages, you bet I would join that club. Now please do not mistake that for me not being a liverpool supporter, but if it was my job, I would be out to make as much money and win as many trophies in the shortest time possible.

Rafa's Purple Goatie

If I was 35 and at the end of my career I would play for my beloved LFC FOR NOTHING even if a billionaire owner offered me 250k a week- agents have ruined the game

Liverpool and for 2 reasons.

Reason 1.
Because its the might LFC

Reason 2.
Do you not think 50k a week is acceptable wage? yes i could earn 100k at another team OR i could earn 50k at a team i love, while doin a job i love and gettin paid 50k a week, which is more than the average person earns in a year.

Carb

There are a few things no amount of money can buy.
Sentimental things are priceless.
Money can buy titles as city have shown, which is artificial happiness. However, money cannot buy true happiness that comes with the pride of simply playing for my beloved LFC.
If you buy success, you do not truly appreciate it. If you earn success, it is so much sweeter.

How I see it is that to earn 20k or 200k per week are both two unfathomable amounts of money. I would not know what to do with that much money. In reality, you can comfortably live off a realistically small footballers wage such as 20k a week for the rest of your life in luxury and comfort. Does any more amount of money actually make that much difference? Not in my view.

If LFC offered me 50k p/w to play for them, I'd snap their hand off without a second thought of any other offers and so fast they won't have a chance to blink.

Liverpool {Ed049's Note - No Brainer.}

Trophies don't mean sh1te if theyre with some random mercenary club.

Yes that all true to us liverpool fans but to "footballers" who make a living in the profession, they have to think about the bigger picture.

if you applied for a job one you told them in good confidence that you will take it, and then get an offer from another company who is willing to give you a better offer plus benefits you are going to say to the first offer can you match what the second company is offering and they don't then you will take the second one.

I cannot believe you actually asked the question.

Boys i'd pay liverpool to play a match for the shirt

Liverpool have reportedly bid 19.7m Euros for Real Madrid forward Jose Callejon according to Marca journalist Santiago Segurola, apparently, Madrid are willing to sell and Callejon is willing to move.

Personally think it's highly unlikely, but if it is true it's a real statement of intent, top quality player. {Ed042's Note - see previous answers}

05 Jul 2012 20:31:41
just a thought Doni and aquilani were team mates at Roma and Lucas also speaks italian as well as Ramirez & Jovetic if we can get them. Aquilani might feel more comfortable at Liverpool now.

Just a thought its never going to happen i reckon you could buy the italy national team and he still wouldn't want to live in liverpool

If he don't wone play in Liverpool why are we paying his wage?

Can't say I blame him. I'm from Liverpool and I don't want to live there.

Why on earth would be spend in the 50m range to make a player who won't even get sold for 6m? And Lucas can speak Italian?! I need him to come translate for me in a month any1 got his digits?

So, another day, another load of negative trolling and bitching. I know in my heart that Brendan Rodgers will prove all you 'I give him 10 games' moaners wrong. And when he does, I also sincerely hope you all disappear back into your troll holes and don't surface again, the club doesn't need you. Do you think anything is ever achieved in life by saying 'can't' all the time? We CAN and WILL be great again, but only with positive change and positive strong support from the stands. I'm sure in your lives as trolls you must be unbearable to live with, so I feel for those that know you personally. Anyway, true fans (and there are many) know what can be achieved with positive support, so we don't need you, we don't want you, and we will defeat you and your bleak black outlook. When our positive play is winning matches and new supporters, I'll happily escort you all to the etihad to watch a bunch of overpaid primadonnas lose their souls. Bye bye....

The captain

Ill hire a minibus you drive sounds like a plan lol

No disagrees? Surely the whining doom mongers who regularly post on here can find something wrong with this post.
Personally Captain, I'd take them to the 'sponsored by mates with lots of money to avoid ffp rules stadium' in manchester. Or is that the same place you mentioned?
Good post anyway.

I don't have any transfer rumours, but really hope Rodgers brings in 2/3 quality players and ships out 5/6 players who haven't performed in a red shirt. I'd be happy with;

Ins-

Afelley
Ramirez
Sturridge
Johnson

Outs-

Adam
Aquilani
Cole
Spearing
Rodriguez
Downing possibly, would love to see him come good though!

In other words, a midfield revolution is needed!

Agree with the first bit, mate but not the INS and OUTS.............I'd have Gaston Ramirez in a heartbeat but Afellay's got injury problems, Sturridge isn't a team-player and would be too dear and Adam Johnson has attitude concerns.
I'd give Adam and Downing another year as squad players given our Europa League involvement requires a bigger squad than last season. For the same reason I'd hold on to Maxi but I think he'll leave. Sadly, Spearing never really made the grade but would be worth £2-3m to Fulham/Wigan/WBA etc.
I definitely hope we get in a creative midfielder, a defensive midfielder, a goal-poacher and a right-winger.
I'd love to see "promotions" for Sterling, Suso, Adjoran, Wisdom, Coady, Robinson, Sama and Texeira (plus a few others).....it's gonna be a long, long season !
A lot depends on departures and, if Johnson, Reina, Skirtel, Maxi or even Suarez decide to leave we have to replace these with ready-made class. That'll be tough!
Personally, I'd love to see Suarez, Agger, Gerrard, Ramirez, Lucas, Henderson, Callejon, Carroll, Enrique, Johnson, Reina, Suso, Sterling, Elm/Honda, Hummels (I wish!), Adam, Downing, Wisdom, Sama, Texeira, Morgan, Coady, Flanagan, Robinson, Shelvey, Coates, Kelly, Doni, Jones, Carragher, Maxi and another decent signing or two (maybe older).
Who could argue that we couldn't be a force with just a few tweaks?
The biggest challenge we've had since Rafa's glorious reign is getting rid of mediocre players on superstar wages....a task which has/will cost the Club dearly.
Kenny's buys were generally better and, although we paid too much by not being shrewd enough, should mainly be kept until we can find the right price. Voronin,Jovanovic,Aquilani,El Zhar,Deggen, etc. were very expensive mistakes.
Kenny's buys have mainly got potential and sell-on value.
Whatever the truth, we're "stuck" with what we've got but what we've got isn't too shabby. Worst-case scenario is we're left lumbered with Cole,Aquilani, Maxi and Johnson's wage-bills without selling. It wouldn't be a disaster if all stayed and fought for their places under Brendan Rodgers but we would surely prefer to have a squad of players who want to be here and not full of wage-leechig hangers-on.
WBA (AWAY) ;

p.s. Only what I'd like to happen !

I only got as far as comment - " Rafa's glorious reign " - what did he win in 6 years? - Big Ears with Houlliers team, which he nearly blew with his team selection, and a lucky FA Cup win - so please move on from a very very average manager - who is still out work because he's been found out and no one wants him.

Cant believe u left gerrard out!!? r u mad ? Get rid of honda and put stevie g there and you have a lfc team fighting for the title

What is the FSG policy??

{Ed042's Note - not signing players over a certain age, and signing ones that are young with the possibility of a good re-sale value..}

Sell the club at the right time. ASAP !

We did sell the club at the right time.
The very day before we did a rangers, Leeds Or Portsmouth.

Thanks FSG

MIKEY

Ed042 surel'y that would rule dempsey out then what is he 29 their would be no resale value their
giblet

"possibility of a good re-sale value" - I'm not a fan of this FSG policy. Surely the whole idea of getting a young player in is that he must have the quality to represent LFC for the best years of his football career - NOT to sell him on for a profit. Sell him in the twilight of his career when we've seen the best of him. If the players we buy do not turn out to be good 99% of the time we sell for a loss. A good re-sale value will only be achieved if a player is a success. Why sell our successful players - are we going to be a selling club. Just a bit confused on this policy.

I hope the reserves that are most developed will train with the first team throughout the whole season. people like; Wisdom, Sama, Polosi, Teixeira, Mendy, Brad Smith, Coady, Suso, Sterling, Pacheco & Adorjan. A good group of 35 is better than just 25.

Training with the first team would also help prepare them for when they get their chances as well as making Rodgers aware of their abilities and progression.

Lol not Mendy! But the others yes. People get so carried away though. Give Sterling, Suso, Coady paying time. Same was case with Spearing, then theyre slated. What about Flanning? Everyone clambering, but one bad, game pass and they fall so far back. They need to be introduced very slowly. Unless they are truly exceptional it'll be 21 before theyre able to handle ups and downs... Give the time to mature in reserves, dominate that level, then loans, feel there way then ready for us!

Who do the generation just behind all them train with then?
Maybe bring one or two into senior training but that's it.
The seniors need to train with players at there level, just as the juniors need to train with players of there level.

MIKEY {Ed042's Note - how are they meant to get any better if they are just training with people at their level? how will they improve then??}

I personally think that it should be a rule at Liverpool that 2-4 Reserve players are promoted to the first team every season regardless of anything else. It freshens up the squad. It gives an incentive to the young players that they really can break through and it saves us money.
Sterling and Suso have to be promoted from last season's crop in my opinion.
We are crying out for a winger and we are crying out for someone in the middle of the park who can work in tight spaces... Lucas was obviously missed.... Gerrard can do it but not many others..... Shelvley is another but the more players in your midfield that can keep possession the better we will be.
When Lucas does not play next year then in my opinion Henderson should learn Lucas's role in the team.
I would be over the moon if we kept cole and aqua... everyone deserves a second chance!
Sell Adam,Maxi,Spearing and our midfield players would be downing, cole, aqua, lucas,Suso, Shelvley, Gerrard and henderson.
Plenty of options but still lacking out wide.
Two wingers and a striker and that would do me.
jonnybarnes89-90

Ed42 I meant don't bring the all of the youngsters up at once. Just the ones that are almost ready. Like last year we had the likes of suso, coady and sterling training, I fail to see the point in having very young or players that are not ready playing with the senior team. That's why we have an academy.

MIKEY

Do you really want our promising youngsters to be training with Charlie Adam and Stuart Downing? They just may pick up some bad habits!! Miami_Red

I want to state to whom it may concern there is a large amount of us fans that are looking forward to next season that think rodgers will be lethal and will make all our under performing players play way better so how about for the rest of the day these positive fans step up and dont be just readers post positive stuff up and lets out weigh these nay sayers for once

I'm not quite sure I understand why so many people are calling Siggurdson a "money grabber". If its correct that we never made an offer because we weren't happy with Hoffenheim's valuation then surely there was no "us or them" choice to be made. Therefore didn't he only go to the only club that had had a bid accepted? Or am I missing something?

Chris in Tamworth

Hoffenheim accepted Swansea's offer and Sig accepted Swansea's contract offer. It appears BR and the club offered Hoffenheim and Sig the same offer they had agreed with Swansea.

Then Spuds came in with a better financial package for Sig, he accepted . Hence the reason people are calling him a 'money grabber' Chris mate. BR more or less said it himself.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Rodgers said he increased his wage demands, so he is a money grabber
FowlerisGod

Ok thanks Blair, I was under the impression that Hofffeheim had raised their asking price and that only spuds had met it. My mistake thanks for clearing that up

Chris in Tamworth

That said if the player wants to play for Spurs and mroe money then we should not care , he never had any arrangement with LFC . So he chose London , a higher league position and more money I can't blame him for .

EdWood

I understand that both Hoffenheim and Sigurdsson asked for more money. Rodgers knew what Swansea were offering and Sigurdsson and his agent agreed. hen with Liverpool they thought they could hold us to ransom. Rodgers and Liverpool walked away after giving him the option of playing for Liverpool he took the highest financial offer.

Tottenham never gazumped us they just were more willing to pay what Hoffenheim and Sigurdsson asked for than we were.

Therefore technically he is what is called an opportunist or money grabber

Orrin

You sure about that Blair?

I thought the only reason Swansea's bid was accepted was because that was what was agreed after the loan deal finished.

Any other club that came in was expected to pay more for him?

dmedly

05 Jul 2012 18:05:24
I have been assured the money is there as long as the player fits in with FSGs policy. However Liverpool will no longet pay over what they value a player to be worth, and will instead move onto other targets. Liverpool are keeping a tight-lid on the names of the first choice targets as they fear a leak would lead to other clubs starting a bidding war, which is something the club will not get involved in. Seeing as this is the case, I expect a few high profile young stars to be on their way to Anfield this season and i think the doom mongers out there are going to be in for a shock.

KC

KC, you have been assured by whom?
You people really tickle me, I'd put my mortgage on the fact that you don't know anyone remotely involved with the owners.

Chris in Tamworth

Asking a man to reveal his source is akin to adking a masked man who he is...I hope this helps Chris.

Not sure how many people on this site know this, but Sigurdsson is a lifelong United fan, which is a probably one of the main reasons he chose Spurs over Liverpool. Being a red, I don't think I would ever play for United no matter what they paid me! Hopefully we'll sign Gaston now.

That would explain why he took a swipe at us during his interview even though we have a manager that made him the player he is...

Pretty sure Solksjaer grew up a Pool fan...

05 Jul 2012 17:52:01
Rodgers: "We're doing a lot of work off the field in terms of potential players to come in, but it will only be a certain type of player that will fit the model here at Liverpool."

He obviously know which players he wants, so relax and watch him work. Remember, he makes the final call for all transfers, no DOF or DOS interference! Singred

Cheap and cheerful

Quite reassuring reading what Rodgers said about the money grabber, pardon me I mean Gylfi. Good to see that he isn't that fussed about not getting him. If he's happy then so am I.

If Rodgers is unhappy he's not going to show it...he knows he has to show that he and the club are in control...

I have not posted here before but read the posts here every day and in general enjoy it immensely. However, I am getting pig sick of some of the comments posted here about LFC. It is true that we have had some bad seasons lately but it does not mean we are not a big and great club. I travel abroad a lot through my work and we are still one of the most popular clubs in the world which is borne out by the sponsorship deals we can attract. We have a history that is comparable to any club in the world so please dont join the flock of sheep who are following the doom and gloom merchants. A few good seasons and everything will be sunshine and light again. I know this is easier said than done but do not despair FSG have done nothing wrong, have money, and we have the best young manager in the premiership. A good combination!

Bang on mate.

"I then became the Liverpool manager, and that then wasn't something that was going to happen at Swansea. So he then had a choice of where he wanted to go. I knew what the market was and I wasn't prepared to pay anything over what I had known was agreed before.

"Liverpool would have provided Gylfi with a wonderful opportunity to perform with a manager that he knows and at a club which is a real footballing institution.

"But he's decided to go to Tottenham, for whatever reason. I wish him the best, he's a good kid and there's no ill feeling. We've got other targets and we'll move on."

so there u go we did not get gylfi because we did not want pay over the odds for a player because its lfc which is what alot of fans were moanin about last year, very gud managment on brendon rodgers part, well done brendon!!!! also proves Gylfi did not choose spurs over us as we never met the askin price in the first place!!

i got a gud feelin were in gud hands with fsg and rodgers, do u agree eds?? {Ed042's Note - for now haha. said this about hicks/gillet and Rafa}

Ed42 mate i could not stand hicks n gillet could tell soon as they came in the door they were goin try take us for everythin but thankfully there gone, i really have got a gud feelin about rodgers though

They lack ambition. I give rodgers 6 months then he will be sacked.

...and I agree with that entirely. He knew what Swansea were going to pay, end of.

I give Rodgers 10-12 games max !

Its as simple as this folks. Once Sigurdsson knew Liverpool where even THINKING about making a move for him, I can guarantee that him and his agent thought: "BINGO" "Money Money Money" As far as I'm concerned, I want players coming to Liverpool, BECAUSE WE ARE "LIVERPOOL" ...NOT because we are willing to pay silly money and even SILLIER wages. Well done Brendan Rodgers and FSG for sticking to the strict remit that they have in order to keep the credibility of our fantastic club intact. Message to ALL the mercenaries out there: We are Liverpool Football Club, NOT Barclays Bank. If you WANT to play for one of the worlds most famous clubs, then we welcome you with open arm's, IF, you want to "Negotiate" a massively inflated salary, then JOG ON... ...Rant over, I've taken my meds again.

Stevie.

We will see if you are saying the same then when Ramirez goes to the team who pays most money.

If Ramirez is all about the money as well then he can "do one" as well.

When Redknapp took over at Tottenham they were bottom of the league. Bale was a left back who when played the team lost. within 12 months Redknapp had them in the top four.

Give Brendan Rogers a chance. I am sure if he sets up the team differently we do have players that will perform at a better standard than previous. I actually do think like Lucas, Henderson will come good. Some players won't fit the system and will move on. With a few quality additions and bedding in the youth and giving them a go in the Europa League/ Carling cup we will see a vast improvement.

I don't want to see any of this flicking of ears s**te in training. I want hard work and a determination to put this club back challenging.

As for the Sig Transfer I think BR was spot on. Why would we pay more. Dont get hung up on why Sig signed for Spurs all players say the same.

Redfish

Ear flicking is good for team morale

And Rogers is going to do the same

Man citey were not an item before Arry's arrival

Prior to their bad season in which they won a trophy they finnished 5th and 5th, they already had a very talented squad

05 Jul 2012 16:12:51
Hey eds, do you think after the year where we can't, that BR will sign any swans players and if so, who?

{Ed002's Note - No idea on transfer policy for the season after next.}

Ed002, I think you're selling yourself short I think you know everything but sadly you're too modest.

So much for us now being a small club. Were on 7 times on Sky before December plus ESPN. LFC are still a MASSIVE club. Big season ahead

We are a massive club. but did you not think for a moment its because it can rech more viewers then say wigan? its all marketing..JLFC

Thats because we are playing the likes of man c an man u...

Its because the pubs are full all over the uk when we or man u are on sky and that pays sky loads in advertising etc

They are hoping to see the club fall apart!

Hey eds, people saying that we are in talks with xavi! Do you think there is any chance? Just wondering, cheers YNWA
{Ed002's Note - If it is on Twitter and Facebook, then yes. If only one, maybe.}

Dont know if this will help but i heard about 3 years ago that xavi had knee problems that would make his retirement age slightly younger than lets say iniesta personally i would not want him without big wage cut and transfer of about 15 million to old to pay over that plus check the sightings page and see the comparison him and stevie like more than 50 or 60 grand a week would be two much

Think we should nick super mario's t-shirt print of 'why always me' to 'why alwways us'? stop the stupid transfer posts they make us a complete laughing stock!!

05 Jul 2012 15:47:39
Brendan just sounding better and better in every interview, I think he's the right man for the job. E.C

Its all about results.
Let's reserve judgement and see how he does.

Well give him a chance it will take time for him to get the players playing the way he wants.

We didn't hire him to talk the talk, like the previous poster said it's all about results.

Brendan- Do your talking on the pitch. This is looking like Alardyce to Newcastle.

I don't get it you all complained about kenny's handling of the media. really like united fans don't complain about ferguson. its good that rodgers is saying all the right things but we should reserve judgement after 2 seasons. he needs time to implement his style. i'm not sure if we will win anything next season but we sure as hell will be entertained.

This is what i expect to happen this summer.
Some of these may seem far fetched, but i have faith in the owners and management.
We CAN afford quality players but don't want to pay massive wages!
Muniain: Yes he will cost a lot for a 19 yr old circa
£25.000.000 wages approx 45k p/w
Ramirez: £20-£25.000.000 wages maybe 60k p/w
Pedro:£20.000.000 60k p/w
There is your creativity guys^^^ all obtainable!
I think we need another striker, especially starting the season without Suarez.
Danny Sturridge: £12.000.000 ish although i can see him going to Spurs.
Or we could play with a false nine (like spain did) with any three of the above?
I see GJ,MS,JS,CA,AA,JC ALL leaving...
Your thoughts guys/girls.....Try not to be too offensive.
Jamie

In the realm of the fairies all this is achievable

Er no mate. That's not going to happen
FowlerisGod

Juan Manuel Vargas (Possibly)
Joe Allen (If we can)
Gaston Ramirez
Younes Belhanda
Daniel Sturridge

Would be what I'd go for. And all possible aswell. Obviously the Joe Allen deal would need some negotiation.

Joe allens a good shout

Idk if we'll get muniain or pedro. both look settled on the spanish leagues. Ramirez is probably one of the better signings since we got miereles and foolishly solid him off. i'd like to see bernard or oscar come in and work with Lucas to get acclimated and comfortable in Liverpool. both are extremely skillfull and i'd love to see them develop at our club.

Jamie.

I recommend you calm down on your wishlist or you're setting yourself up to be a very disappointed young man.

BJH YNWA (I wouldn't want Sturridge ... though if Rodgers could coach the greed and the bad attitude out of him - he could be a contender... likely it would be an expensive gamble though...)

05 Jul 2012 15:37:26
Dear Ed's/Macca. Plenty of dismissals of likelihood/availability of targets suggested, but are there any viable targets that we have identified as of yet? Struggling to find any.

05 Jul 2012 15:37:19
Quote taken from BR talking on the LFC site (regarding Sig) :

"So he then had a choice of where he wanted to go. I knew what the market was and I wasn't prepared to pay anything over what I had known was agreed before."

"Liverpool would have provided Gylfi with a wonderful opportunity to perform with a manager that he knows and at a club which is a real footballing institution."

"But he's decided to go to Tottenham, for whatever reason. I wish him the best, he's a good kid and there's no ill feeling. We've got other targets and we'll move on."

So BR was not willing to be held to ransom when he had previously agreed a deal with Sig and Hoffenheim. Fair play to BR if you ask me.

I was at John Lennon Airport after coming back from Spain, getting our bags checked in line..then suddenly what appeared to be Gaston Ramirez in a Uruguayan tracksuit and his agent got through and were allowed to jump the line. At the time i was annoyed he'd jumped the line but now I've realised he must be joining LFC. Watched a few videos and he seems a great player.

Was he jumping round the airport singing 'I'm signing for Liverpool!' at the top of his voice?!

Idiot

I was wondering when the John Lennon airport sightings would start..

Great the first airport sighting of the summer last year they were some of the best between them and smokescreens it was memorable
giblet

Is the whole Uruguay squad not in liverpool at the moment?

Why call him an idiot? I love rumours like these!! Sure he's not telling the truth but I miss these rumours rather than the norm of today which is "ed are we signing this player". These rumours are fantastic!!
KiwiRed {Ed049's Note -exactly}

05 Jul 2012 15:21:25
Theres a few rumours going around that Liverpool are disappointed with Gylfi Sigurdsson's decision to choose Spurs over Liverpool and that the owners will make a significant move in the transfer market to avoid more bad press such as Liverpool being less attractive than Spurs and so on. Im not sure how valid this is, however I am of the belief that the owners will give Rodgers less money than Dalglish had but this is down to the fact he should only need to make '3-4' signings. Gaston Ramirez, Affellay and Muniain appear to be the ones most likely to come in however only one of those (if any) will come in.

Can shed any light on this Eds?

Thanks

And RVP will prob be injured next season.

The sound bites coming from BR today have warmed my heart. There has been a bit of banter on this site today regarding the posters and from the so called true fans and the fickle fans. Just read or watch what BR said today to his players and then apply it to your support for the club. We'll all be in a much better place then................

Chi-Paul.

Just watched it Chi-Paul mate. The more I watch BR interviews the more he impresses me. He did not let himself and the club be held to ransom by Siggurdson. And he has told all the players 'If they don't want to fight for Liverpool. They can p!ss off'

Great stuff.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Another LFC Whipp

Get those rogue fans into place!

I think we have a very good manager in BR. He certainly knows his stuff, his interviews dont make me squirm like it did with our previous managers, n he seems to be targeting some decent players in the market. Keeping my fingers crossed that he will do for us what whiskey nose did for man utd.

What kind of formation do you see Liverpool playing in next season? Two strikers in Suarez and Carroll or what? I dont see how Gerrard will fit into tiki-taka styled football....

Gerrard does what he wants, when he wants.

scouserlewy

Liverpool will play Spainish style of football in Euro 2012.

4-3-3
Suarez,Carroll and a new striker up front.
Gerrard is one of the best passers in the game so tiki takka will suit him fine, especially as he will have to make gut busting runs a lot less, I'm sure that will suit him also.

MIKEY

Stop going on about tika taka!!! its pass and move for heavens sake we played it last year

Stop going on about tika taka!! its pass and move for heavens sake we played it last year
- - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I'm sorry, I have had to repeat myself, we did a heck of a lot of passing last season but not enough movement.

That's not pass and move, that's pass and pass and pass..... and it is easy to defend against!

Pass and move its the liverpool groove

king luis

Hard to say exactly, but my guess would be some variant of a loose 4-3-3 with really no set positioning and lots of movement. Could look more like a 4-2-3-1, or a 4-1-2-1-2, etc. depending on what's required. For me, the default squad would look something like this maybe (based on who we have now):

Reina
Johnson-Skrtel-Agger-Enrique
Gerrard-Lucas-?
Suarez-Carroll-?

The ?'s could be a number of players in the current squad or potentially new signings, but I think the above are likely 'starters' depending on availability.

My biggest concern honestly is fitness. To me, last season the squad (generically and with a few exceptions) just didn't look fit enough to run around like what is required for 90 minutes to play a tough pressing game. Hopefully this is something the coaching staff can work on otherwise this sort of style could be difficult for us.

05 Jul 2012 15:01:49
Do you think LFC could by ramirez and illic? {Ed002's Note - Of course they could - please read the posts.}

05 Jul 2012 14:50:30
annoying me when people are saying they want rid of henderson, carroll, adam, it was there first season? rarely anyone has a great first season? they need time to gel and they are all very young. we are liverpool one of the greatest clubs in the world? im %100 percent sure we can turn these players brilliant maybe even world class, give them a couple of seasons and we will see.

05 Jul 2012 14:48:28
I find it hard to hear all the time that 'BR has to assess the squad blah blah'

I am no manager and I dont really understand the ins and outs of football but I could assess the squad in 10 freakin minutes.
We need a lot of work done on the squad and whether BR is the right man remains to be seen, hes football ethos is brill but are the players?.

I hope I am wrong but I see a mediocre finish (8th to 10th) this season!

Neilos

"I am no manager and I dont really understand the ins and outs of football"

Then why try are you trying to tell Brendan Rodgers how to do his job?

JRG

Agreed! i'm sure brendan has seen ALL of our players play before and also as a unit.
However i'm certain BR IS! the right man for the job and he will get us back into the CL.
A new manager & a new era.
Jamie

In 10 minutes?

So Gerrard, Suarez, Reina, and Agger are having an off day in those 10 minutes.

Do you get rid?

Ridiculous..

KKM...

That is correct.
You are "no" football manager and you don't understand the in's and out's of football management. But what is certain is that you could not assess the team in ten years never mind ten minutes

05 Jul 2012 14:44:11
Rodgers : "I knew what the market was and I wasn't prepared to pay anything over what I agreed to pay before., we have other targets , we have moved on" this is brilliant! if only kenny done the same about hendo, carroll, downing! i think they would of been better if we didnt pay over value!

I wasn't prepared to pay anything over what I agreed to pay before.

Mr Rodgers u was swansea boss before now you are at liverpool. it's not the same club. if he ask a reasonable salary u should accept it.

Kenny would have gone back in with a £40 mil bid!

Benitez would have offered him £200,000 a week.

Kenny im sure it was commolli that did all the negotiations not kenny surely its his fault we paid over the odds

hi eds, me grandad is friends with gaston ramirez father. he told me last night that ramirez will join liverpool because of luis suarez. also dont get your hopes up but im being told that bobby zamora is going to be our marquee signing this summer.

the one and only MITCH

Hold on, let me get this straight, we're signing Ramirez, but Zamora is our MARQUEE signing?!
In other news, a new face was seen shuffling into Melwood via the back door. When quizzed about about this, Rodgers, during the all-singing, all-dancing, fireworks exploding, unveiling of our new high profile signing, Bebe, said 'Oh him? That's just a new young lad we've got in for the academy to make up numbers, called Messi. Looking forward, we are looking to bring the highly rated Poulson and Konchesky back to Anfield'.

Other way round dont you think!

Any chance of LFC going for Steven Fletcher of recenty relegated Wolves. He was a stand out performer for them last year. Knows the prem, technical ability, good in the air, natural finisher. good replacement/upgrade on Dirk.

caulker signs 4 year contract with spurs, what's happened to our football club?

I hope that is a joke?

We obviously don't want him and have other targets.

Caulker went on loan to Swansea from Spurs you idiots.

05 Jul 2012 13:26:12
Ok,
so now posters are now concerned spuds & AVB have bigger and better spending powers than LFC.

All you are doing is comparing the numbers you see on the screen.
AVB £70m to spend
Sigi £8m £45,000 a week
Chavs amounts they have spent on the people they have bought.
Same for Man Utd and no doubt will be the same for citeh once they start spending.

Look at it his way please:
All the figures being thrown around are for PROVEN class, Hazard,Hulk,Kagawa etall.BR and FSG are not approaching the spend this way, we already have PROVEN quality through the spine of our team, we need a few players with the ability to push themselves to the next level, ask yourself does Di Mateo have a track record of player progression? NO so he has to buy in the quality.
Does AVB ? IMO no, he has track record of his way and nothing else( ala Mourinho ) backed with the comfort of being able to spend on quality ( again ala Mourinho )
Mancini & Ol rednose have good proven track records in management, impact players are their speciality when dipping into transfer markets to improve what they already have.

No doubt BR has restrictions on his spending, but those restrictions will not be based on figures and quality of player he wants, it will be based on "can this guy either 1/ slot straight in and improve? 2/ does this guy have the potential? and more importantly realise it? 3/ can this guy see in terms of a bigger picture, backed with the desire of pulling our shirt on?

Think, from BR signings last season they all fitted into all the above, as his management skills and training knowledge are the key to development of the player.
A £30M cavani would come in and probably think he has nothing more to learn other than the language.

BR studied JM methods of training management and player progression while at chavs, which is what he was scouted for by JM himself to bring into the club at youth/reserve level.

BR has the title of 1st Team coach for us, which will be his main focus.
Analysing his squad, before making decisions on where he would like to strenghten.
Running the rule over who he mentally thinks cannot be part of the club anymore.
Once he has this picture in place, then he will start sounding out players for out and incoming.Give this process a couple of weeks with the players reported back already.

Remember, we are more of a business now, and personally i dont see how people can use this as an excuse to have a go for not getting this player or because a " marquee " has signed for someone else because " we dont have the power to attract this type of player anymore " THINK before saying childish comments. I would prefer us to be know as the club that constantly develops world class talent.

Shrewd, but understanding owners - TICK
Young, progresive manager- TICK
Strong reserves and acadamy - TICK
Strong team behind him, training, scouting etc- TICK
Loyal,understanding commited fans-TICK ( 90% :0( )
Strong brand - TICK

All these are a foundation for on the pitch success, mostly none of the above existed 5 year ago, and will bear fruit in a few years.

So please, support, whine, moan, be constructive whatever you do to vent some spleen. BUT dont think LFC will slip into football wilderness, that will only happen when we start splashing silly cash about for players, that according to few on here will improve us, when all they will do is hinder the progress of 2-3 players behind them.

Sorry for the length of post ( seems to be common with me ), and thanks for reading.
Piddy.
P.S those that are wondering, IMO Gaston Ramirez fits into the " fits straight in and can improve" category :0)

This is all media balloon ...levy would have to sell his a** ..to give spuds a 70mln transfer budget .
the way they have started with typical cheeky spuds type transfer of gilfy...shows what they have in the bag.

OP - I know you're not the originator of it, I've seen it posted already here this morning, but I'd love to know where "AVB has £70m to spend" is coming from?

No PL club outside City and Chelsea has that to spend without having to raise at least half of it, if not more, through sales. Which for Spuds, means Modric and possibly van der Vaart. And they'll be spending a big chunk of that £70m replacing Modric, without any guarantees the replacement will be as good.

Not worried about Spurs' spending power.

- Something Red -

It has come from one of the most unreliable websites on earth "", it is absolutely full of Man Utd.

an american red

And Gylfi is on somewhere around 65k-70k a week at spurs. Which incidentally is what we are paying Suarez right now. We offered 40-45k a week which is what carroll, hendo and others signed last summer are being paid. Imagine the racket for pay raises if a player who cant get a game at Hoffenhiem (because they signed Babel) gets paid what your star striker is paid. It will ruin the wage structure that FSG via Commoli have implemented with the mass exodus last summer.

Nice post Piddy.

I don't understand why people are asking if there is a chance of Van Persie, he's quite clearly stated money is not the issue, ambition is (not that we could throw money his way anyway). i think alot of you are wrong about cole, spearing, maxi going. spearing is still young and has time on his side and thought of very higely at the club. the problem with some of you on here is you dont look at things long term. they have a few bad games and you think sell them. he will get better with time. just remember when everyone slaged off lucas. now everyone wants him in every week. as for cole i think he will suit what br is going to do and sees him as a new signing. as for maxi for the last two seasons people have said he will go and as of yet he is still with us and a good job to. a great squad player to have and will suit br way to the ground. the only one i dont really get is aquaman. great player and has looked good when he has played. i know we hear that he dont want to be here and maybe that is true. would be good to see what he could do for us over a season. time will tell. when i look at are squad it is not that bad as many of you keep saying. as for the signings last summer i beleave they will come good this season and maybe thats why we might not be rushing out to buy players we dont need. we have alot of young players ready to step up and if we fill the squad up to much the young ones dont get a chance. i say br has a good idear what he needs to do to get things going and is a great manger with young and not so well known players and making them a great team and hard working . you only have to look what he has done at swansea to see how he gets the team working together. yes i wound like us to have maybe signed someone by now but on the other hand you got to give him abit of time to see what got.

05 Jul 2012 13:40:23
Have a horrible feeling we are kidding ourselves if we think we are going to get the 3 or 4 signings we think we are going to get. FSG I believe don't have the money and BR will have to deal with what he has. Middle of the table finish I predict.

Oh here we go. Just when we thought we'd lost the doom and gloom mongers. Get a grip FFS and don't moan until after the window has closed.
Geez

What possibly makes you think there isn't any money? Even Macca said that they will spend money! There's plenty of time to buy players and there's plenty of players out there.

Who are you?? So I can congratulate you at the end of the season if you're right.

I have a gut feeling we'll sign three of the following:
Sturridge
Ramirez
Johnson
Kalou

Each of them would be a welcome addition, with attacking flair, pace and goals in them. Just what we're needing in my opinion.

Aim your sights a division or two lower

Ramirez and Kalou certainly. Not a fan of Sturridge and Johnson could be another Downing.

Two Chelsea cast offs and another from City, The normal path downhill for players who move from winning teams to non winning teams within the same country, if you disagree fair enough, but please point out some examples where this isn't the case. Buying one would be deemed acceptable if the player suited a mangers ideas for the player. but three is just crazy and makes no sense. Top clubs buy the better players that other clubs competing in their league have, its not the other way around.

Its even irrelevant if these players would make us a better team. Reality is that if we sign these players it just confirms what we have all been refusing to accept, we have become a club of lesser stature and that is reflected when our ambitions are to successful clubs surpluses.

Jarrow

Only Ramirez out of that lot.

Why do some posters refer to other posters as idiots etc.
Surely everyone is entitled to their views and opinions, no matter how different or varied they may be.
Being a fan is not a 'autocratic' thing, and its refreshing to hear the opinions of others.
If you don't like it, then don't read it.
Stop being so damn narrow minded.
This arrogance and self righteous approach by some fans, is one of the reasons LFC is soo despised and disliked.
If you want to benefit the club, allow people to make their own choices, and voice their views, you don't have to agree with it.
How are we ever going to attract 'new and younger fans' with this 'high and mighty, self righteous attitude'.

Why do some posters act as the forum Whipp

You know if you don't support the club 100% when it seems something is wrong or question the direction of the club then you get lashed by the forum chief whipp

I think it's how you question things as opposed to the questions you may pose....
You also have to understand that there is no magic formula to create a solution to our problems... it takes time and patience, it's not quite so simple as throwing endless money we don't have on new players and that is the end of everything. After all that's what H&G did and we nearly ended up in a similar situation to Rangers. We need to give the owners time to create a sustainable business model for the next 20 years or so... this will be easier to do with the majority of supporters behind them.

It is fair to question things that FSG have or have not done in the right manner. Example, both myself and Ed001 questioned FSGs role in the Suarez situation and how Daglish left. Perhaps they have addressed this with the new appointments...
What supporters don't want is people making unhelpful and often malicious comments such as YANKS out, They wont spend money and questioning their motives. they want success and are trying to figure out the best way to achieve this in a long term model....

Richards

Exactly.
Allow people to say what they think and feel, they have every right to express their opinions.
Its just rude and insensitive to call posters 'muppets, clowns, idiots etc', and its just a 'bully boy tactic'.
I am all for freedom of expression, that's democracy.
Is it a British thing to be so critical of other peoples views and opinions, I thought the UK was a country of freedom of expression.

Sorry but, when someone asks whether RVP is now a target for LFC, calling them person is actually being polite!

If you wouldn't do it in public, or to their face, then why do it here.

Got to get something off my chest...
When did this site become a Q&A for the Eds site?
It's called Liverpool rumours!. If you have a rumour then post it. Why all the questions? I have checked this page every morning ritually for any new rumours and now I'm lucky if I get 2 or 3. Give the Eds a break and stick to rumours eh?
Note to Eds: why not add a Q&A page to the site. {Ed002's Note - We have tried it, it didn't work. We are not adding any more pages.}

Hi Eds and fellow fans, I have been told that Liverpool are close to completing the signing of Gaston Ramirez (no surprise) but what is a surprise is that Jordan Henderson may be going out on loan until January maybe all season. Cheers DysonTheHoover

Hendo will come good, just need to play him behind the striker.

How will henderson be getting loaned out in january nugget? he cost us 20 mill last season and is the best peice of business ive seen from lpool in a long time.

john bishop

Henderson is NOT a AM or RW or anything remotely to do with attacking football. he is a Holding Mid nothing more nothing less.

Shelevy on the other hand is more of an Attacking CM like Gerrard, Rafa had a very good spot for only £1.5m wasn't it??

One thing I grant about shelevy is his honesty in the way he plays (he will play to his strengths, no matter who is his partner in midfield) and character (when alongside Gerrard & Carroll last season, he at times let him know that they weren't doing the right things).

If Henderson is a holdIng midfielder - I'm a peanut.

I think that LFC has a pretty good chance of signing Gaston Ramirez because he is in the Uruguay olympic camp with Suarez and Coates and they might try and persuade him to join the Reds.

Hi dont think their input would be positive, coates never gets a game its possible suarez will be transfared, and we finished what 8th in the table, hope Im wrong.

Brendan Rodgers wants to sign Joe Allen from Swansea. The 'agreement' that Liverpool can't sign players from Swansea isn't true.

Liverpool will talk to Bologna about the transfer of Gaston Ramirez in the next 24 hours, Liverpool want a deal done before The Olympics start as a good performance there will only make his price higher.

Liverpool wanted to use Aquilani as part of the deal but his wages are too high for Bologna.

Our "great talant" Darby was released. At last. We have lots of "great talants" which all MUST be released

I think the word your looking for is talent not talant. Standards for g sake.

Sorry for my english, i am from bulgaria and in bulgarian talent is written as talant. Sorry once again.

These academy boys are born with a lot of talent and devote their lives to making a career for themselves using that talent. most of them just don't quite have what it takes to play for liverpool's first team but they don't deserve mindless abuse from 12 year old keyboard warriors

Poster number 2 - how's your Bulgarian grammar?

In Bulgarian talent is written as talant

Absolute Rubbish

Bulgarian is similar but not exactly the same as Russian if you catch my drift and talent would not be written as you have described

Bulgarian is nothing like russian and i think your just presuming he should know

For all of you who are still having a go at BR and FSG over the Sigurdsson transfer, imagine this please....
Mr Swan is looking at a car on the forecourt of motor dealer. The car is advertised for sale at £6,800. Mr Swan is very interested as it is a fair price and shouldn't cost that much to run each week.
Mr Kop is walking by and thinks "that's a pretty good deal" but as he approaches the car the dealer meets him and tells him he can only buy the car for £8,000. Mr Kop is just about to negotiate on the price when Mr Spud marches over. "I will give you £8,000 for that motor" says Mr Spud, pushing the other two out the way. Mr Swan decides to take his money else where.
After a closer inspection of the car, it appears that the little run around isn't as cheep to run as first thought, in fact it's nearly twice as much as most cars in that class .
"I'll still take it" snaps Mr Spud, putting his hand in to his bulging pocket.
Mr Kop realises that he can get a better car that is cheeper to run for that sort of money, so he turns around and walks away to the next forecourt.

The thing is fellow Reds, we could have matched the asking price for Sigurdsson. We could have paid the wages. But it wasn't a very good deal!
Keep the faith and have patience, who knows what is on the next forecourt.

Johnboy

Genuinely the best post I've ever seen.

I can assess the squad right now.

Going out; Cole (90k per week), Aquilani (80k per week), Doni (50k per week for bench warming), Adam (60k per week), Maxi (50k per week), Bellamy (60k per week) and Spearing (15k per week). That should free up 405k per week plus between 8-12 million for transfer fees.

Out on loan; Flanagan, Robinson, Suso, Wilson & Shelvey.

To bring in;

2 wingers - Ramirez (15-18m), Kalou (free)

1 playmaker - Afellay (7m)

1 midfielder - de Jong (10-15m)

1 striker (depending on formation) - Luuk de Jong (12m)

I could be wrong but I think Adam's on 40 grand mate.

Shelvey is in the top 3-4 midfielders at the club mate.

Hi Edds and fellow fans. I'm not sure if i'm speaking on my behalf or if other fans feel the same way but this site is being tarnished by idiots/trolls/fans of other clubs. This site is so addictive that many of us check numerous times every day but lately its getting depressing. And before all you wind ups merchants tell me where to go, i'd like to make a suggestion.
All the Edds have to filter loads of banter but can we stop all the negative posts and the repeated ones on here as its a turn off. Its clear to me IMO that certain people are just posting to get a reaction or repeat what has been said. We all value the work of the Editors and people who genuinely post but jeez, its some idiots are wrecking the site. For the first time ever i've felt the last few days that I don't even want to log in. Can you please sort it out or block the morans please Edds. They are bringing the quality of site down and spoiling it for the rest of us. Appreciate your time for reading.
Cheers

Mate posts that you perceive as negative against the club or Rogers are not necessarily from fans of other teams.

Some of the more enlightened LFC fans believe all is not well at LFC and wish to express their views however unpopular they are with the "true" LFC supporters.

Most Haunted

@ Most Haunted.

I'm sure the 'more enlightened' fans who aren't sure about FSG, Rodgers or the general future of the club, are able to articulate their issues in better terms than basically running around screaming things along the lines of: "Rodgers/FSG out", "Transfer Policy is a joke!" etc. 4 days into the transfer window because Spurs signed someone, which is what most of the negative posts here have amounted to.

That leads me to believe that those posts are the product of trolls and idiots.

Whilst I'm sure there are plenty of sensible fans who have doubts, that's not how a sensible fan expresses themselves. I'd actually think that most of the sensible fans are adopting a 'wait and see' approach with regards to both the transfer window and the season in general and aren't saying a whole lot atm.

- Something Red -

I agree with you Taffy Tel. It's easy enough for a bored opposition fans to pepper these pages with the same 'Mid table team/FSG are clueless/No longer a big club/BR is smalltime/we can't attract players/Let's face is Spurs are bigger than us/We're to slow in the transfer market... type of nonsense. I am up for banter but the same, repetitive 2 liners that appear (with no name) saying the same imflammable cr*p is getting on my nerves. I know a fair number of LFC supporters & none speak in the way as mentioned above which obviously makes me a little suspicious. As up for free speech as I am, the '2 liner' trollism is becoming a drag.

Spot-on mate, I totally agree.

Also, however much in doubt you are of FSG and the new management, is calling the manager 'ginger' in other posts the correct way of communicating those fears? It seems a childish dig at a someone who has done nothing wrong so far except not bid for player.

And this is supposed to be 'enlightened LFC fans'..........

JRG

Most Haunted Not sure how you can claim to be 'an enlightened LFC Fan'

Juvenile maybe. Didn't you recently refer to our manager as ginger rodgers, whilst extolling the virtues of fergie (amongst others)?
There are plenty of differing views between LFC fans, and as far as I am concerned all are welcome. I think what annoys 'true' fans as you put it, is that some of the vitriol aimed at the Eds and The club seems far too aimless and vindictive to be from someone who genuinly supports the club.

Maybe you are an LFC fan. Try and act like one - see if you can make a valid point without sounding like a manc with nothing better to do..

BigBadBen

Sorry most haunted but being negative does not make you enlightened, in fact it makes you the complete opposite.

Its called self deprication and is a defense mechanism used by insecure people to ward off any possible future problems, so that they can say "I knew this would happen!" just in case their worst fears are realised.

Most "true" fans will get behind the owners, team and new manager. New Season, new manager, new start. The owners have shown last summer that they have money to spend and BR has confirmed that he wants to bring in 3/4 new players.

The negative views expressed on this site are based on the fact that a player that we didnt even bid on has gone to spurs and have no solid grounding whatsoever.

Signings will be made but unfortunately the "enlightened fans" have made up their minds and continue to fill this site with bile and torment the rest of us cos they have no original thought to add to any decent posts.

Self deprication can only apply to oneself not to a third party like LFC, you clearly have heard some terms but do not understand them

Most "true" fans will get behind the owners, team and new manager. New Season, new manager, new start. The owners have shown last summer that they have money to spend and BR has confirmed that he wants to bring in 3/4 new players.

Look its this simple the sooner this "house of cards" that is LFC under FSG collapses the sooner a new LFC can be built

The negative views expressed on this site are based on the fact that a player that we didnt even bid on has gone to spurs and have no solid grounding whatsoever.

I have expressed no view on getting sig or not, personally I did not want him, much the same as I don't want FSG or Rogers

Very Good afternoon all,

So Ramirez rumours turning ripe once again, very clear Liverpool has interest in the player, my sources told me the interest was very very much genuine even after Rogders arrival thus I told you last time he is very much Liverpool bound for me. I pray we get him, he has pace and quality in him would be a to top player when he gets more mature in couple of years time. Looks like Uruguay's next big thing after Forlan and Suarez. However Bologna's 20M Euro asking price might be abit out of range compared to our valuation. But 18,17/16M pounds isn't too much for a player of his quality IMO.

Come on BR, get him.

I also feel the likes of, Shelvey, Sterling, Suso and even Pacheco might be staying and getting more involved with the first team. An idea I believe BR would fancy very much

Cole and Aqua man should and will hopefully leave...one who dosn't want to play for the club another over aged not effective once a very good player who is Club's second highest earner after Stevie G. We defo need to get rid of them IMO. Could free more than enough quids for transfer budget and for other players.

I hope no one would be disappointing if BR went for Pedro Rodriguez. Yes why would he leave Barca for Liverpool but never say never.

Armando

I believe you, Armando. I've always paid close attention to your posts and most of them are pretty reliable. Cheers!

Does anyone else find it ironic that as soon as Liverpool do something corporately e.g. kit maker change Chelsea are soon to follow e.g. we changed from Reebok to adidas. Chelsea soon followed suit changing from umbro. Its ironic that this morning straight after the release of our third kit I've heard that Chelsea are in talks with warrior over a new multi million kit deal. Along with a few other PL clubs I'm led to believe. Forward thinkers are FSG.

It's just an idea, that I'm sure has been thought of before, why don't you make this site, so you need to log in to post? It can be easily done and you could do it by using your Facebook or Google account so it's quick, might make it easier to ban people too.

Guys & Galls...
Lets not get too ahead of ourselves saying this top player or that top player is coming or going, I believe that the footballing brain that BR has can possibly bring success with the current crop that we have, we seem to forget that the youth squad is awesome and that coady, suso, sterling, morgan and more can just as easy make an impression this coming season.

Just remember what Fergie done with youth in the early 90's, I hate the bloke too but you must admit that he upset the form books by playing the nevills, butt, scholes, beckham, giggs, sharpe etc so why cant we do that too.

Our youth combined with reina, agger, gerrard, suarez as the major spine of the team and a year's more experience with hendo, carroll, downing why cant we push forward. Im not saying title challenge but surely we can push champ league.

Look what BR done with Swansea, I really think we can add 15-20 points to our season just with his playing style...

We are all talking about needing wingers, strikers, midfielders and defense cover but I think most people are not looking at what we already have. I know the squad needs improving but not drastic changes. Forget last seasons poor form and undoubted bad luck in front of goal. Most of the players we need are already at the club.

Adam was a player 12 months ago most teams would have taken, creative and a goal threat.

Downing creative left winger who chips in with goals.

Carroll struggled to settle after injury and a shaky start but with undoubted potential.

Enrique started well but started to struggle to be fair when everyone else started to struggle.

Henderson is not Messi or Gerrard but will grow into an important player for Liverpool (patience and belief required)

Perhaps what we really need is a good manager who will somehow get the best from these players, throw in Gerrard, Pepe, Lucas, Johnson, Agger, Skrtl and Suarez we are a good team, not as bad as 7th in the league suggests I just feel we lack direction and discipline.

Good Luck Brendan the real reds fans are with you

Kev the Red

Well said. I think we are sorted in goal and defence. Just need a first team AM and ST

I'm confident about Carroll, Enrique and Hendo coming good, and reasonably confident about Downing.

I didn't think all that highly of Adam when we signed him, and notthing he's done in the last year's changed my mind. Still, he can contribute and will be fine as a squad player.

He was all set to join swansea.

He picked spurs for whatever reason , be it money or living in London its his choice.

Let's be honest its not as if spurs are crap is it.

Sigurdsson will big up spurs in interviews its what he's been told to say .

We will buy players so people relax its only the 5th of July.
Rodgers will have targets maybe he wasn't to botherd about sigurdsson.

i wouldnt worry to much about this Sig fellow, he was a bit part at Hoffenheim and a middle of the roader at swansea.
All i will say is remember Piennar, went to spuds to warm the bench for more money, now he cant wait to get back to the Bitters.
As for AVB playing him, he wouldnt even play Torres who was 50mil and he never set the chelsea team alight did he?
Nothing like Burning your bridges for a dream that will eventually turn into a nightmare for him.

As for the new guy BR, like most i was unsure about his appointment, ive supported the pool for near on 50 years, but lets face it for the past 20 years with the clowns Moores and Parry in charge we went backwards through bad management.

Then we had the 2 cowboys and we sunk even further into the abiss, days from obscurity i hear,so lets try and supprt BR, he maybe young and untested but his interviews are quite refreshing to me, he did wonders at swansea and hopefully wil do the same with us.

As for FSG, yes they are an unknown quantity in football, but from what im told they are astute business people and will only want success for us, they wont throw money away willy nilly and lets face it who would?

O yes the chelsea fellow and the shiek, they throw money away, but they can afford to run the respective clubs like a toy, very unproffesional in business circles if you ask me.

So lets be patient, support the owners, the manager and the team and god willing we will again be the dominant force in world football, we are not in a bad shape, the foundations are there, it just needs tweaking here and there from what i see.

And a special thanks to all the Eds who take the time to keep us informed about what they know, right or wrong, they do it for love and no money, so be thankful.

Well said.

Every liverpool supporter needs to understand, we are now a Midtable side. We have been stuck behind the times too long, getting those class players like we once did are now in the past. The great British experiment last year was total failure, had the money to spend and we wasted it. Ever since the private ownership started, all we have done is gone backwards. Now we are struggling to attract players, Sig said " he can see Spurs going places " thats why he chose them. When you see some of the players linked to us now, they are rejects from other clubs or they are cheap. We need to do what we did in the past, as soon as we see talent "we go for it" no matter the cost. Lets get with the times, get those players with the magic feet, who can create space with there skill. we as Liverpool supporters will be holding our breaths, waiting for the first player to sign with us this season. Lets hope whoever we sign, will light up Anfield again.

Of course sigi chose spurs ahead of us we didnt even bid for him....steve

Too many neanderthals like above poster. You have to face and anaylize problems to go forward.Too many child like reactionists-"you criticised LFc im gona reat and defend them".We all want the same, except a lot need to take the bias specs of and face reality. If you need to look at Leauge and individual stats/performances to wake up do.But blindly flying off the handle suggests most posters are under 30

According to

AVB has a 70m trasfer kitty to spend with no CL either.

So lets sum it up, Tottenham didnt have a coach but still pushed for vertoghen and sigurdsson when we had no coach and didnt do a thing.

They have no CL but still get huge amount of money for the new coach, when we dont even know when we are going to start looking at players.

Okay, I may be exaggerating but I feel like FSG are not showing us that we are willing to fight for a CL spot.

Sure we've had great deals with Warrior and Standard, and our situation financially is better. But it doesnt show on the pitch, finished 7th 2seasons ago and now 8th. Yes we have a trophy, but we played and suffered against little teams. There are reasons to be worried.

I cant wait for the new season to start but Im also afraid ill be disapointed again, number of times we played better the score on the board wasnt showing it, was massively depressing.

Just saying, cheers all, NROX.

That's why avb did not come to lfc, we don't have the Money that spurs got.

Why have a go at fsg , if u read the other posts and what the eds write , rodgers wants to assess the squad 1st and to see whos staying or going then he will know what positions he needs to improve in , as for avb everyone knows the manager doesnt sign the players there the owner levy does all the transfer dealings so please be patient ... steve

He may have70 million but that is probably due to the sales of modric and vdv put it another way if fsg have given brendan 35 million and he sold saurez for another 35 then he would have 70 million would that make you happy cos personally id rather keep saurez than have the 35 do you think the spurs fans will be happy if they lose modric and vdv but they have 80 million they will spend the money but the players that come in may take time to settle may not be as good

So... you want FSG to pick and sign the players themselves?

Cos that's effectively what happened at Spurs. Levy decided he wanted Sig at Spurs, did all the legwork and just waited for AVB to be in so he could say that the manager had made the signing when clearly he didn't. Levy's calling the transfers and that usually doesn't work out to well, so I'm much happier that FSG waited for Rodgers before doing anything.

And we won't actually know who's spent more until the end of the window. Only people like City and Chelsea spend 70m net in a single window. If Spurs spend that sort of money, it'll probably only be after selling Modric for about £40m.

{Ed001's Note - really? You don't think that Hendo is right for this style of footie? It is what you all gave him abuse for doing all last season! He was playing pass and move, tiki taka football, and all he got from people on this site is moans and groans about passing sideways or backwards! I really fear for football supporters these days. What do you think tiki taka is all about? It is about possession, for possession's sake at times. Pass it around, pass it back, pass it sideways, pass back again etc etc, all the time making the opposition tire themselves out chasing the ball. It is how Liverpool dominated Europe! Our players weren't fitter than the rest, but they kept the ball better and so had much more left to tear into the opposition at the end of the match. That is exactly why Hendo is suited to it, he always wants to keep possession, whether it means going forward, sideways or backwards.}

Could not agree more Ed. At times last season, when given the chance in his own comfort zone, he played superb one touch, pass and move football, stunted really by poor old Spearing partnering him in the midfield. Combined with his left foot finish early in the season and his cool finish against Chelsea at the end, I really think some of our fans do not appreciate the potential Henderson has. We all know how the Lucas 'doubt' ended and personally I think he looked more accomplished in his first season than Lucas did for sure. His problem is he has a british name. If he was named Jordo Henendez people probably would post such tripe doubting his obviously technical ability. He will be a perfect fit for the tactics BR is looking to implement.
Davey Liver

Correct. The ball never gets tired, only the players.

EDS i am from india. A friend of mine is a manutd fan he was saying that they have more debt than us. If a club with global market of fans have debts then what is happening to other small clubs?
How much debt we have and how much debt other clubs have to pay. But is the conditions of administration.?

{Ed002's Note - It is not really a matter for discussion here, but Manchester United have £400M worth of debt plus change in bonds. However, they have a significant turnover and a value three times that of Liverpool. Liverpool are not at any financial risk.}

IIRC, FSG cleared the debt we owed Royal Bank of Scotland, some £200+m, leaving something like £60m that had been on the club since before Hicks and Gillet took over. I'm sure and Ed will correct me on that if I'm wrong.

- Something Red - {Ed002's Note - I don't know what remains on the books right now but teh RBS debt was cleared with the purchase.}

Ins:
Ramirez
Schurrie
Wanyama
Izaguirre

Out:
Maxi

Aqua
Spearing
Adam

I would buy a winger I stead of the two Celtic boys but I do rate the pair of them.

Ed's I think you should publish a support group on the site, Samaritans maybe?

Too many sensitive souls on here thinking it is all doom & gloom because we have lost all of these "targets" we are apparently chasing!

None of us know who the targets are so let's just wait and see.

I'm sure there is enough quality for us to choose from to tweak our team - again we aren't that bad, 8th position didn't really reflect our season and certainly not a mid-table club. I go as far to say that even with no changes we would make top 5 and possibly beyond.

Did we lose a bet with that third kit? Was it designed by Jorge campos? Pretty nasty. Saying that it might put our opponents off, surely it's an advantage if the opposition are killing themselves laughing, or throwing up, or both!!

woke up this morning in the mood for some nonsense fantasy type fun! So predictions for next year are as follows!
Adam and co will be staying. Adam is going to have a good to very good year i think. I also believe Henderson will come into his own esecially with chance to see how effective it can be done between Gerrard and Lucas.
I genuinely believe this positivity will inspire Downing to play far better. All in all, we will not win premiership but i think table will be

1 Man City
2 Chelsea (especially if they get Hulk also!)
3 Man Utd
4 Liverpool

To be honest i am not the most optimistic person and was not one of the LFC supporters that thought we would get top 4 slot last year, but really think Man utd have been a little lucky and old legged lately and do not think they will come close to winning this year

Gareth:) (i know...crap post but what the hell)

We weren't even close to top 4 as I was sure arsenal would get it but now that RVP might go we have a chance but an outside chance depending on signings.

05 Jul 2012 09:12:36
Sig
There was deal with Swansea with agreed purchase price and wages.
LFC enquired and the price went up and the wages doubled.
So Rogers looked at a reasonable deal which had changed over night and didn't even bid... Sound business if you ask me, I'm sure if he felt he was worth it, we would have persued.
Eds told us this....
Move On
Pistol Pete

Rodgers sees Ramirez as a better player with a lower wage demand.

05 Jul 2012 08:31:25
Not a rumour just reassure fans who are uncomfortable with the amount of transfer activity. We have a very good side at the moment. Granted we only have a couple of individual great players ie Suarez, gerrard. But with BR coming in and implementing his style of keep ball and pressure to get the ball back we don't need world class individuals. Some people have called for Allen and Britton of Swansea, no body can tell me they're class players or better players than Henderson or even joe cole. They are just players who know how to play in that system. The system doesn't require massive skills from players. But It does involve a good first touch and a willingness to work for the team. Hendo can do that and so can many of our players. Nobody can tell me Swansea have better ball players than lpool! They just play as system where everybody has a good first touch and keeps it simple. Pass move, pass move! It's not rocket science as proves by Swansea. Allen and Britton are players that I like to call mattheu flaminis! Good in the pass and move systems but when they move on thinking they're better than they are to a team that doesn't use this. They get found out to be average player. We do not need anymore of those at liverpool but we also don't need any individual world class players at the moment. We need players who want to work for the team and win with the team. I'm looking forward to the season 2012-2013 may be very interesting.

05 Jul 2012 08:26:16
This Gaston Ramirez link reminds me of the
Sig saga, and guess who he went for. Let's not put our hopes up. We're not the only club interested in him. Just a thought.

He has been ridiculous good to bologna and would happily stay as he states that the fans have been very good to him but financial reasons means he has to leave so he isn't money motivated. We also have Suarez who is good mates with him judging by twitter pictures of them to gather

05 Jul 2012 08:21:31
Sigurdsson saying that liverpool are going no where , funny because he will be a bench warmer at spurs.

05 Jul 2012 08:14:40
Good Morning Eds
Is it just me or are loads of so called Liverpool supporters just waiting for our beloved club to fail, I actually believe that there are some who will even be disapointed if we do well. If BR or any of the team were to come on this site and look at what is being written by "fans" they would think they were on the mancs site.
People going on about missed targets (the only evidence of these even existing is from gossip / press / media) people slating BR before we have even kicked a ball, slating FSG after they backed Kenny with £100,000,000 and cleared our debt when they took over.
Our great team faces many challanges this year and it will be a hard enough season without "supporters" writing us off before we start.
One of the greatest things about LFC is our strength in dark times and over the past 30 years I have supported LFC there have been a few.....but we have always come through the other side stronger.
We will sign new players and existing players will leave, we may not win titles or be owned by some billionaire who spends money regardlessly..... but we will always be Liverpool Football Club!
I just thought some people needed to be reminded of that.
Jim22

05 Jul 2012 08:13:04
The truth...last tym i told you rodger will not sign anyone untill the current squad return and he asses them....g.ramirez is interested in liverpool move and he dont want a move to city..liverpool a preparing a second bid after the first one bologna said it was too low...reds want to make this done before olympic...#Leo {Ed002's Note - Liverpool have not bid for Ramirez.}

tottenham beat liverpool,

besides that the money he wanted was more than he deserved, tottenham are known for such cheap cheeky business , dont have enough money to get in a bid war..why the hell...this is the only story going abt us....as if spuds have done something very remarkable ? they have an extra player playing for then every time. ..n thats media.

05 Jul 2012 07:20:05
Hi Eds, reports suggest Siguardson has joined spurs. Shame cos he looked a good talent. My concern is that LFC are missing out on way too many quality players, is this mainly cos we can't offer CL football? {Ed049's Note - There is no need to panic.}

Ramirez is the one that could fire us up the league.

05 Jul 2012 07:07:53
So one chat with Avb apparently convinced siguardson to sign for spurs. Can't say much for Rodgers persuasion for bringing in players. If you can't sign a player who knows and worked for you last season how are you going to sign others

Mate, i have a feeling you're just trying to get a bite now. If you're not, then you really need to get your facts right about why Sigurdsson didn't sign, so either do some reading, or give it a rest already...

Red7.

We never even made an offer so we have to be tracking Ramirez. AVB is very persuasive, I think he just lifted the phone and said 'we pay more money' and hung up.

Really!
Can you be that naive?
Yeah. Its just like that, AVB comes and he decides to join Spurs. Is it not blatantly understandable that he went to Spurs for the money?

To be truthful, the guy is overpaid too much.
I believe that he is on a 60-70k wage which is higher than Kagawa. How many of you think that he is better than Shinji?

And as for his dig at LFC, he is throwing stones while living in a glasshouse. Spurs will most probably lose both Modric and VDV. Alongwith this remember about their huge array of strikers right now consists of Defoe , Dos Santos and ... er. never mind.

So why are people moaning about a player who clearly has the attitude of Bendtner and Ronaldo. Unfortunately for him, it is highly unlikely he can follow the Ronaldo way. Its more than likely he can become another Bendtner.

Corvin

Maybe Rodgers didnt want to muddy the waters with Swansea and maybe, just maybe we werent that keen. I wont be losing any sleep that he chose Spurs over us, good luck to him!

Who would you play with? vdv, sandro, bale, lennon, modric and or mautinho, and possibly oscar? or adam, downing, henderson, spearing or shelvey?

It had nothing to do with that. Rodgers refused to be held for ransom by Hoffenheim over the fee. He showed a lot of strength and stamped his authority early on. I think he is a fantastic manager and he has the Shankly's about him in my opinion.
KiwiRed

I can't understand why people disagree

It's probably more to do with getting paid an extra 20k per week, discussions around a new training ground and at the moment, a team quite a bit better than us.

Cash talks louder than Football managers. Get real!

Or maybe he isnt the player we want.
TIZER RED

Are you really as pathetic as you sound. Full marks for BR for putting the club first and not agreeing to pay a 22 year old whit 17 premier league games over 50k per week !

FFS - Rodgers couldn't try and persuade him, he couldn't talk to him as Liverpool did not put a bid in to Hoffenheim. The lad went to Spurs, because it was a choice between Reading, Swansea or them, I think Spurs where a more attractive proposition than either of the other 2 who bid.

I like the way the fella above mentioned spurs best players (some who are leaving) and compared them to are worst/up and coming players
seems unfair to me to mention modric, bale and not suarez or gerrard

Gylfi Sigurdsson says he chose Spurs over LFC because they're a team with 'great ambitions, that intend to do big things'. any one of the eds no how much he was sold for.
suarezred7 {Ed049's Note - £8 million.}

Gylfi did`nt choose spurs, LFC chose not to buy him. He aint gonna join spurs and say he wanted to join Liverpool is he?

It upset me a lot, it upset me becose I thing think is tru.

05 Jul 2012 07:01:02
i know alot of you want lfc to by the best players there is in football but that just wont happen. for the last 20 odd years we have tryed to get back to winning the prem and it has not happend and i cant see it happening this season but what i will say is that i dont think it is as far away as most of you would think. last season we played well and should of one most of are games. we hit the post goodness knows how many times. if they would of gone in we would of been up and around the top but that is the way it go,s. we got in new players that did not all settle in that easy but there were times in the season where they showed some insight to what they can do. a season on and now not that far from the start of the new one i feel the players will come alive and with a new manger who likes playing attacking football i think we could be the team to watch. with 3 or 4 signings to add to the squad that can only make us stronger.

Our decline began the day Kenny walked away and left us in the lurch with an ageing side, with no adequate replacements - that coupled with the appointment of Rick Parry, bad managerial appointments, Moores selling us down the river. I just hope the appointment of a young, ambitious manager with fresh, modern ideas can awake the sleeping GIANT that is Liverpool Footbal Club.

John B

Kenny did not walk away and leave us in the lurch mate

Do you know what happened to make kenny "walk away"

Foolish boy

Kenny was losing it b4"what happened" first time around

How totally stupid

He has just won the title

Draw at Goodison and other daft results meant KK hadnt fixed an ageing defence,it WAS the start of the demise.Remember Palace 4-3?

i personally like the 3rd kit better than the second one, it looks like a rugby top. which is probably what they went for by the looks of it as rugby is a warriors game.

they are deffo going to go into the rugby world next

I think this is a great post! its a reality post instead of a magical dreamworld post about who were not going to be buying!!

I really like the 3rd kit its different from other teams kits. Its nice to see Warrior come in with some fresh ideas. Just a shame its the only real news on the official website. When what we really want to know is. WHEN ARE WE GOING TO SEE SOME NEW PLAYERS!!!! aaaargh how frustrating?

05 Jul 2012 05:34:01
Hi Ed's , irrespective of their transfer value , who would u prefer ? Sigurdsson or Ramirez ? plz reply . {Ed049's Note - Ramirez, Period.}

Ramirez everyday of the week, the lad has the potential to be right up their with anyone in world football plus he is relatively cheap considering his quality.

It would depend on what your going to do with the players? if the player starts then ramirez all day! but if hes going to be a squad player like sigurdsson will be at spurs then sigurdsson all day

Ramirez is lazy

05 Jul 2012 05:29:24
Liverpool fans need to stop there moaning about rodgers not signing anyone, he has already said he's assessing the squad before he makes any transfer. Its sicking listening to these "fans" that are already slating the manager. The transfer will come!

Totally agree, its pathetic.

Thank you atleast some people agree, if you don't then you don't deserve to call yourself liverpool fans

Are you serious? Could you imagine carrol playing outside of England.

And Mark hateley speaks for Liverpool football club and it's supporters? Everybody has an opinion these days, 99% of those opinions are a load of old toss and are best ignored. Rodgers will improve Carrolls game no end, he will be a beast for us over the next few years. hey guys couple of points i through this logic think gaston ramirez will sign for liverpool , juventus have officially bought 2 mid fielders add that to marchiso vidal pasquato giovonico thats 6 cm which is too many therefore ramirez will be playing for liverpool next season my second point is adam johnson i think his lack of first team football and the lack of liverpool not having a rm will bring him to anfield did i also mention hes young and english now my 3rd and final point is a second striker if i had to choose who liverpool would get id have to say demba ba which with a 7m buyout looks very likely to happen i think these 3 will be the only 3 of the season good luck lads {Ed049's Note - 7m buy-out clause only applies for a team in Champions League.}

Interesting Eds, i didnt know it only applied to Champions league teams! Makes sense i suppose

thanks
gareth

Demba Ba is a risk given his knee. NUFC took the risk and it paid off, but FSG I don't think will risk it.

A few Italian journalists are saying we're meeting Bologna to discuss Gaston Ramirez. If we could negotiate them down from 20m euros, I think we could have a very classy addition to our squad, from the little I have seen.

RedSG

Giovinco will play a wider and more advanced role and Pasquato will not be seen in Turin this year as he has been loaned out by his co-owner(Udinese) to Bologna. So basically, Juve will have Pirlo, Vidal, Marchisio and Asamoah to fill 2, or sometimes 3 CM positions available. They have more CM's on their books, but will more than likely play them very sparingly or just loan them out, Giondonato, Pogba and Marrone are examples of those players.
I think i've already said on here that if Juve manage to get Marco Verratti away from Pescara - which they are days away from doing - They will not pursue Ramirez, so don't fret.

BUT, i will say it looks a little suspect that Pasquato has been loaned to Bologna, in the same way Troisi(should Juve buy him) may be loaned to Pescara as a makeweight for Verratti...

Bloody Italian football huh. It couldn't be more ridiculously complicated. I've no idea if what i wrote made sense, i tried to simplify... you be the judge...

Good morning Ed's & Reds,
I am just wondering how many of our players have scored on their debut for us?
Upto now I remember:
Luis Suarez
Gabriel Paletta
Craig Bellamy
Mar Gonzalez

Abel Xavier
Stan Collymore
{Ed049's Note - You forgot Fowler and Owen. Anyway I hope this might help.. http://www.lfchistory.net/Stats/PlayerScoredOnDebut.aspx}

You can add Carragher to that list, somehow.

Torres?

dmedly

Torres' debut was against Aston Villa at Villa Park, dmedly, he didn't score.

He scored on his HOME debut against Chelsea though.

05 Jul 2012 02:09:55
OK so you are a young single footballer, you have been made two offers to join clubs. One is from a team in London the other in Liverpool. Most players will choose London over Liverpool for the lifestyle.

Liverpool is a great city but given the option of living in either of those cities most players would pick London.

Mate I live in London its terrible compared to Liverpool so this is complete rubbish

Yep....thats true.. both arsenal n spuds benefit from it.
though spuds still not a match for us financially, for bigger targets like suarez, carroll, etc. they do hold an upper hand in cheap(money wise) cheeky signings like Gylfi Sigurdsson.
not the case of sore grapes guys just a thought, as a person though i want liverpool but sure my wife ,kids would choose london.

arsenal is the biggest gainer of it...thats why we loose so many targets to them. not now but even few yrs back in the top 4 era. arsenal n us were on similar stage, standings wise, money wise(bidding) , n the london lure used to give them an extra edge .

It all really depends if one of those clubs actually agreed a transfer fee for you in the first place.
Reduces your options to just the club in London.
Easy to come out and say they were the team you decided on. Also, you're not going to come out and say "you know what? I really wanted to join that other team, but for some reason they didn't agree with the valuation set by my old club. Either that or they didn't even bid for me in the first place, so I had no option other than to come here!!"

When are the ignorant posters going to actually do some research before posting utter tosh?

We never agreed a fee with Hoffenheim for GS. Whether that is the fact we didn't even try or we made an offer which they refused we will never know.

Sad but true

RedSG

Of course they would, i have been to most cities in this country and a few special ones abroad as well and if i were a young single footballer or a married footballer i would be choosing london every day of the week, sorry guys, but hand on heart there is no comparison!

Nah give me scouse girls over London girls anytime. ;)

MIKEY

A lotve Foreign players get drawn to London cosve their Birds aswell. The flash places they can live with their wages is another reason

Well they've just turned it around by signing a player who only had one very quick chat with a manager he had never met before against a manager he spent months with...oooouch

How almightily true that is....

How do you consider that a win.
AVB is a very good manager, one who has won titles.
What has BR achieved!.

Great at Chavski wasnt he

please answer eds-is there any linked names that u actually expect us to sign. and to everyone else please shut up about ramirez!!

I think we will sign Ramirez....Ramirez, Ramirez Ramirez and only Ramirez. In fact i hope we sign 6 players called ramirez, that would be excellent!!

05 Jul 2012 01:11:05
We only need Ramirez and a young striker IMO:
----------reina
Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique
--gerrard-----Lucas----aquilani
Suarez-----Carroll------Ramirez
Quality first team capable of playing Rodgers' football and with the addition of a young striker, like a poacher, as a back up then the squad will be capable of getting 4th spot. Throw sterling and suso onto the bench next season and with Henderson, Coates, downing and the rest all in the squad already the Europa league shouldn't be a hindrance... Come on Brendan!
YNWA

Aquilani? Hmmmmmmm, Dont think so....

RED4lifeNOTjust4XMAS

Who is going to do Aquilani's tackling for him?

LIVERPRES

I honestly think that team is capbable of being champions. IF they all play to their potential and we get a little luck. Obviously maybe add 3 players to improve squad and take out the aqualini and replace him with someone with a backbone (sissoko? banaga?). Its a big IF but its certainly a great first 11

Put Henderson in place of Aquilani. I prefer a player who wants to play for the team.

Personally i think LFC will offer Aqualani and cash for Ramirez deal.

I really like this side, it means adding just one player ( although we need cover for left back ) but I think Aquilani will leave so gerrard can move to that position and Henderson to where you have gerrard. I think if the could add Phillips the Squad looks good. 3 signings as BR said would make an impact.
RNred

Just Ramirez and Munian.
Reina
Johnson skrtel Agger Enrique
Gerrard lucus

Eds seen as though we are going to be playing tika taka football dont you think someone to play with gerrard and lucas in the centre is a priority? As i dont think henderson is technically gifted enough to be a regular starter in a pass and move team at this stage in his career! Personally i would love to see joao moutinho as he is probably the most complete orthodox midfielder in europe at the moment! Do you think there is any chance at all that we can get him ed?
A.K {Ed001's Note - really? You don't think that Hendo is right for this style of footie? It is what you all gave him abuse for doing all last season! He was playing pass and move, tiki taka football, and all he got from people on this site is moans and groans about passing sideways or backwards! I really fear for football supporters these days. What do you think tiki taka is all about? It is about possession, for possession's sake at times. Pass it around, pass it back, pass it sideways, pass back again etc etc, all the time making the opposition tire themselves out chasing the ball. It is how Liverpool dominated Europe! Our players weren't fitter than the rest, but they kept the ball better and so had much more left to tear into the opposition at the end of the match. That is exactly why Hendo is suited to it, he always wants to keep possession, whether it means going forward, sideways or backwards.}

Hendo is a machine. he's young, plenty of time for him to grow, and he will grow.

Kaizer

Henderson was made for this. The lads movement is first class and he is technically gifted. The lad is also strong and fast so he has all the attributes he just needs to be more confident and throw his weight around.

Spot on Ed001. With Rodgers coaching it should free up low risk forward passes for our midfield. Hendo and Spearing for that matter will look like different players with a bit of time.
Simon

Cheers ed001.
When people finally fathom the idea of "defending WITH the ball" i think we'll see them really understand what's happening, once people realise it's less tiring to rest on the ball than to chase the bloody thing all day, they'll stop slating poor Hendo. Hopefully the fact that they're calling for the very thing they complained about last year, it means they're closer to understanding the style of play.

That wasn't aimed at you A.K, just speaking in generalities...

Red7.

No he was playing get the ball & pass it behind. no progression in his approach way to tentative. he also can't get himself out of sticky situations and can't dribble past players. and doesn't press hard and read the game well enough to play as a holding player,

Henderson is one of the most technically gifted in the squad! Did you even watch Liverpool play last year? Or just catch the results on teletext...

Ed001 your spot on mate, but there is no telling some people, if your not picking up the ball and running 30 yards and scoring, or hitting 30 yard strikes they just dont want to know.
Yes he was not the worlds best right sided player last season ( by no means the worlds worst either if you really look at the games ) but at 21 in his first season at the club, he did not complain and he was trusted to do the job.
If we had a squad full of players with heart (and talent) like him and Lucas we would do vary, vary well.
Well said Ed001

Excellent reply ed totally agree I truly believe we see Henderson flourish under rodgers.

The other team can't score if you have the ball, unless Djimi Troare is playing -McMenemy

Players we MUST get this summer

Winger / Forward / AM; Gaston Ramirez, 21 - 20m euros
Attacking Midfielder; Ryad Boudebouz, 22 - 15m euros
Forward / Winger; Cristian Tello, 20 - 8.5m euros

I think we have a good bunch of center midfielders; gerrard, lucas (who will need a little time), adam, aquilani, henderson and shelvey (who should go out on loan to a prem team)

Not gonna happen, but I would be dancing in the street if it did! One of those players would be nice.

Forget tello and boularoux and go for Munian who will be cost about the same but the wages will probably be lower.

Hey eds, I know it's been said by previous posters, but I just want to confirm that it's pretty much a done deal for Bellamy to go back to Cardiff. My father has a client who knows him well and he confirmed he will be ending his career at the Red Dragons.

In other news, I'd like to see Aqualani given a chance in midfield.

Morgan, suso, sterling, Robinson, wisdom, coady, shelvey all to get some first team opportunities I'm the Europa league or league cup maybe.

I'd like to see us bring some pace in to the side. What do you think ED? I want to know who would you like to see come in? {Ed001's Note - I would not let Bellers go, for one. Like you said, we need pace, so why lose the only bit of pace we have?}

We still have Jamie's blistering pace and immense goal scoring record.
AnfieldUS

What a moby

ED, I agree, I'm not saying I want Bellamy to go and as a Welshman I love him even more, but I was just saying what I have heard from very good sources. Personally I thought for the 2/3 months before Christmas he was our player of the season before he got injured. I'd love him to stay.

new 3rd kit is available now dont think it looks too bad

I personally am old fashiond, I was hoping for a Kit like our first but in white with red trim however, warrior and the club are been clever, when I bought the first kit my mate said he loved it but does'nt like a collar, the second had no collar. Now the third is aimed at teenagers ( the hoodies, Rap music and computer game generation ) and its target markets, aisa and the US, where I think this will sell well. Whilst I love the traditional look of the first kit ( got one ) it's about time we started to be more buisness like and explored every market.

Does anyone else think gylfi was scared off by our second and third Warrior kits? Perhaps they will grow on me. The new purple jersey is kind of mesmerizing....

Coop {Ed001's Note - the 2nd kit is nice on, apart from the grey bit around the neck, that just doesn't work at all.}

I like the 3rd kit. Jersey has been on sale in Australia already

People on here are going a little too hard on Sigurdsson. So he chose higher wages? Wouldn't everyone? Is he supposed to be doing charity work? Aside from Liverpool fans (of which I am one), on paper, there would be no reason to choose Liverpool over Tottenham. They play exciting football, finished 4th in the league, and have world class players.

Lets hope we can attract someone else.

Exactly mate, we had a luck at him decided what we thought he was worth, they decided he was worth more. The lads decided the best offer for him was spurs. If were going to have a go at every player we lose out on, it will be a long list.
It's upto us to make ourselves more attractive, and that will come from been the best again.
( either that or he didn't like the new kit )
RNred

I agree with money quote - but certainly not the world class players thing - I can think of maybe one they have, good player, but is he real world class? Doesn't matter where they finished last year, they are in Europa Cup, like us. His decision is purely money, and we still don't know if we even put a bid in to Hoffenheim, they did state that Liverpool where not one of the bidding clubs.
John B

Ok - forgot about Bale, who, if he has another good season, will be rated as world class.

John B

Absolutely.
Spurs are a very decent team, gave us a hiding in Sept (though we only had 10 on the pitch), but then again Spain beat Italy with a man extra, and everyone talks about 'Spain thrashing Italy'.
Reality is what it is.
Spurs are certainly a 'more attractive' prospect than LFC for younger players at this time.
We have to realise that until LFC start performing and achieving, we will only attract 'average players' at best!.

New 3rd kit just revealed

Not sure about the new third kit, strange arms.

Skrtle and agger will love them arms i guessing

I dont hate it but dont quite get it at the same time. Strange arms and strange use of the orange. Still, only a 3rd kit.

I think Brendan Rogers can't be interested in any of the scouted players we've done homework on. I'd rather him be cautious & sensible with the transfer kitty.
I can't see him signing targets he had in mind for Swansea either. No disrespect, but we need a different standard of player.
Also, reading in-between the lines, he's after a few players who will come straight into the team which would suggest the likes of Bellamy, Spearing & maybe even Downing going out.

Gav the Red

Bellers and downing will no doubt remain as first team players.

Thank god that Gylfi dude is off to Tottenham. Must mean we have a better player lined up. That or that we cannot attract anyone anymore. One or the other.

04 Jul 2012 23:54:46
Hi eds, very simple question. Did we actually make an offer to hoffenheim for sig and was it definitely accepted? A simple yes and yes or yes and no would suffice. Jayo {Ed001's Note - no.}

04 Jul 2012 23:50:47
Must say. Having mixed feelings on this new 3rd kit. Can't decide if I like it or not but i'm leaning towards good. -McMenemy {Ed001's Note - it's the training kit that worries me, getting the choice between purple and orange is a bit disturbing!}

People are so impatient because their frustrated. And to be fair its been a long time since a Title challenge even.Never mind Top 4.The Top is where we once belonged. But being fair to all being impatient, the gap seems to be getting bigger and bigger more and more rapidly. yes loads of different reasons for that. But when you consider our Leauge form last seaon i feel people are panicking when seeing rivals make purchases to improve,When we know were already playing catch up.Their just desperate for good news to bring us all the hope we can start closing gap and reigning in the rivals.Go easy, were all Reds

Now i don't think the team with the best players wins the league, no doubt it helps but i think it is more the philosiphy and ability of the manager that will win the leagues. like just looking at the united team that nearly won three in a row has to make you laugh. nani ? fletcher ? rafael ?

Most of the time best players moulded into best team win it.If were being argumentative Title winner nowadays comes from say top 3 teams.Ok say team with OVERALL 3rd best players wins Title cos moulded and gelled the best. You aint gona get Forests, and Derbys in todays era.Finance largely if not totally decides. And a team that finished 7th,8th or 9th aint suddenly gona threaten for title or even top 4.Some people so perdantic

Poster no2 on list your missing point of original post.your reply is putting an argument that original poster dint even make!

Anything on this Carroll to Milan gossip?

I love Carroll, but I think it may be a good move for him...

I love Carroll too, but I think staying in Liverpool is a good move for Carroll. unless hes going for very big money i guess?

Kaizer

If we got good money for AC, then sell him.
We will never get close to what we spent, but at least we could buy a better striker or two.
AC is not good enough for LFC, fact!.

04 Jul 2012 23:20:18
It has been a slow and dissapointing start to this summer in transfer terms, however now that the players are training again Brendan will be able to have a better look at the team and assess what we need. I think that the transfer business will start hotting up in the next two weeks and expect pssible moves for players such as : Gaston Ramirez, Luuk De Jong, Adam Johnson, Milos Krasic, Andre Schurrle and salomon Rondon.

DorsetRed

Those players are only possible if:.
1. They regard LFC as a good career move.
2. We can afford them.
3. They don't receive better offers.

Let's face it, LFC is not as attractive as it once was.

In reply to post above watch out for insults as your being a reality red mate.Ie f off to chavski etc from the misguided morans who think if they mouth there undieing support the loudest that makes them right.Whilst totally disregarding the facts of the last few years-My Dads bigger than yours/im a bigger fan merchants

Ramirez talks within next 48hrs. He would like the move. Bologna holding out for a better deal...TJ Red.

04 Jul 2012 23:10:45
why are we all panicking because sig went to spurs so what he had one good season under br he is decent but not all that there are so many players out there to buy its important that we find the very best in the positions we need ie center back to cover
right side of midfield as kuyt is gone a new center of midfield and a center forward of world class stature
then offload players who are just not good enough for lfc ie spearing ,adam, caragher to slow now show be offered an assistant role in the club ,cole to slow no pace aquilani basically he told the everybody he will never return to lfc ,bring in adam man city ,ramerez ,ba,rondan and shawross and lets play real football

Sure leon brittan went to milwall and was p*sh, then came back to swansea and was class.

04 Jul 2012 23:01:19
Reliable CNN Italia andGazzetta dello Sport writer Tancredi Palmeri confirms talks between Bologna and Liverpool for Gaston Ramirez transfer will happen in next 48 hours.

Any truth in this Eds? {Ed016's Note - Not really heard anything}

04 Jul 2012 23:08:01
What Sigurdsson said about why he chose Spurs is where were at sadly by comparison to others.Young guys see us as sinking ,or stranded club, stuck going nowhere with too many uncertainties. And im not a Manc and wont F off to another team. I love LFC but thats the realism of where we are.Stay in denial all you like

Would you F off if all the true Liverpool fans asked nicely, only most of us are fed up with you lot whining we get enough of that from our wives?

MR EM

With this manager i can't see us sinking any more, the only way is up from now on, who cares what anyone ouside lfc thinks.

You certainly do not love LFC - you must be in denial about being a closet Manc - how many times do you whining alleged fans need to read, or be told by the Eds - Liverpool did not put a bid to Hoffenheim for him.

Hell that's real tunnel vision.
Of course peoples opinions outside LFC matter, where do you think new players will come from.
Silly response to a thoughtful post.

Mr em and your blind response ild like to meet you for'a chat'on finer points of game.Been to more games then youve had hot dinners lad. When is your intellectual style appearing on Newsnight and Question time.Hope labotomy reversal op goes well

it's a shame about sig, would have been a good player, oh well. there are literally tens of thousands of other professional footballers we can sign.
i also think we should keep hold of Charlie, season before last he was being discussed as the PFA player of the season. at the start of last season, he was doing very well for himself, and he got quite a high number of assists in those first few games, it just went all downhill once lucas got injured, and to be fair, so did the entire squad, i think it just affected Charlie the worst. i think as a squad player that isn't expected to track back, he maintains his worth to the squad.

sig's a good player, but there are many better out there. hopefully this means Ramirez is more likely!

and another thing, i'm sure people are upset about losing out to spurs for sig, but look what's happening with RVP at arsenal. i personally am thankful that our best player and captain isn't so disillusioned with the club that he's walking away. comparatively, missing out on sig isn't that bad.

If Brendan has any ambitions to play the same style of football as swans, then his first targets need to be oscar and joey allen, 12 mill each should cover it, allen being expensive just so swansea cant refuse it despite the agreement.
Or he could consider moutinho as the far more expensive option, then he needs a winger who is young and quick with end product...not johnson/walcott/lennon.
Maybe 2 depending if we lose Bellamy as well as rodriguez and kuyt.
And finally we need a young 3rd striker, preferably a poucher.

So you would want us to dishonour an agreement?
That is not the way our club works.

KT!

I bet you did not even know about Oscar until he was linked with spurs today.
