Assuming Suarez goes to Barca.

If we played them in the Champions league this season, what do you guys think the reaction will be in a return to Anfield? ANd what would his be?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It is inevitable we will be drawn in the same group

he will be clapped and cheered with the occasional boo,s. lfc supporters aren't hard core!, just an observation

But play first and he misses because he is a person that bites people 80m bite their hand off and run I say.

Agree0 Disagree0

The worm is back I see.

For me his presence will be an irrelevance. The only reception I will give is to our own players.

If He gets chance to score, He would defo.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh yes! How great it is to be in the Champions League.

Agree0 Disagree0

If he gets a chance to cheat he will without thinking twice.

With johnson being available for transfer who are the options for right back? Also another couple of questions, are you aware of any alternatives to Lovren and finally who are we looking at to take Suarez' role? Lambert, Sturridge and Borini is lacking big time IMO

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Flano, Wisdom, McLaughlin + Yedlin (and Kelly)

Agree0 Disagree0

RB=Flanno or McLaughlin.

Agree0 Disagree0

Johnson is staying and Flanagan will compete for a starting spot. Why complicate things? Yedlin is nowhere near good enough, McLaughlin has done nothing yet and Kelly hasn't been at the right level for a number of seasons. We will see what happens with Wisdom. And Sturridge, Lambert & Borini had more than 40 PL goals between them last season. That's more than Rooney, RVP and Wellbeck combined. Etoo, Ba & Torres combined. And Giroud, Podolski & Bendtner combined.

Agree0 Disagree0

Anfield

And Sturridge, Lambert & Borini had more than 40 PL goals.

I am not going to bet on this one for sure, We won't be playing all the three in the same game.

I expect only Sturridge to start, Borini and Lambert to cover. ( Since neither Lambert or Borini are wide players in a 4-3-3 formation)

Most of the Top 4 teams in the past have scored at-least 70 goals in a season ( No matter how much less you concede)
Given Sturridge and Sterling hit a combined 40 (That's the Max We could imagine ). Where is the remaining 35 goals?

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi H. It's impossible to say player x will score x goals really. My point about our 3 current strikers is more that we know they can operate and score in the PL. Gerrard scored double figures, defence chipped in with double figures and whoever plays the most games in place of LS will need to be getting 15. So there's another 35 for you. If we work on being tight as a unit we won't need to score so many. Let's face it - it's nonsense that we needed to score 3s and 4s just to win games. We scored 3 at Everton & Palace and drew games!

Loving Costa Rica. Come on lads, beat these Dutchies.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

They are leading a charmed life Ken. Anything can happen in penalties now. Great game tho. Loving this world cup.

Hi ed's and reds,
So as its been mentioned on here, when luis leaves there will probably only be one more attacker added.
I may be wrong but this now seems to be markovic of benfica.
Now I know that ed001 has stated that he would like to see younger players given the chance as back up players, which I agree with btw. My only concern is the fact that sturridge is clearly made of glass and is very susceptible to injuries, which in turn seems to leave us lacking in a competent back up striker apart from lambert.
Does this concern anyone else or just me?
I think if origi was coming in this summer then my concerns would be appeased, however this is very unlikely.
Appreciate any of the ed's thoughts thanks
YNWA *****

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We will buy another striker mate noway will Rodgers want just Sturridge.

Markovic is an attacking mid, everybody's got to stop linking all these midfielders as Suarez replacements.

A striker out a striker in.

Agree0 Disagree0

Definitely would like to see another striker added along with a winger/forward. Unfortunately I think it will be just the one wide player. We'll have to hope Sturridge has a largely injury free season and can cope with the pressure of being the leading man.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jul 2014 00:32:09
But don't you see it BennyC? BR favours 4-3-3, he just uses a diamond because it accommodates Sturridge and Suarez up front, to get the best out of them both. But when Suarez goes, signing a winger would mean he can play his favoured 4-3-3, and if he ever wants 2 strikers up there he would use Lambert. This is why we are seeing Markovic, Shaqiri, and Sanchez looking likely to be replacements.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jul 2014 00:35:38
That's why we bought Lambert.

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarez is irreplaceable as a player. He is genius. Our system was pretty much built around him, so I think the 4-3-3 will go other than the odd game

Borini will play more I think. BR signing and did well as Sunderland. Hopefully Shaqiri will be signed up. Don't hold any hope of Sanchez or Markovic.

With that, I see a 4-2-3-1 with Gerrard and either Can or Henderson behind an interchangeable three of Lallana Coutinho and Sterling.
Cover these with Shaqiri, Borini and Ibe

Sturridge up top. Covered by Lambert and if signed Origi.

IMO I think BR would like to play a 'Ghost 9' with a group of 4 skillful attacker runs from deep interchaging positions in front of two holding players, but with such a good striker in Sturridge he can't.

Agree0 Disagree0

Shaqiri will not leave Bayern's bench to sit on our bench.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm very concerned mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jul 2014 09:43:22
Shaquiri won't sit at our bench, He would be a regular starter.

Agree0 Disagree0

Crunch. There's plenty of reading matter out there about BR and his philosophies. He likes a strong, mobile no 9 to be the focal point of his attack. The exact opposite of a "ghost 9". Sturridge is that player to a tee and Origi is another example of someone who could develop in this role. Lambert is not an out and out 9. His style is more Teddy Sheringham. He's excellent at linking with midfield and other forward players.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah agree Shaqiri wouldn't sit on the bench.

But I can't dislodge Sterling, Coutinho or Lallana around Sturridge whichever way. 3-1 Amongst 3-3 or diamond.

So where are you guys expecting him or Sanchez to play?
Who'd you drop? Some are calling for both Shaqiri and Sanchez.

If anyone thinks to reply, it's a squad game, we're in the CL, we need a bigger squad etc then how could my banter suggestion be so wrong?

Agree0 Disagree0

My take on the positions to be covered with 2 strong players and my preferred signings.

DM Gerrard/Lucas (Can)
RM/CM Henderson/Allen (Can)
LM/AM Lallana/Coutinho (Can)

RF Sterling/Markovich
CF Sturridge/Huntelaar/Lambert
LF Shaqiri/Texeira (Lallana)

Midfield is sorted so I'd like us to replace Suarez, Aspas, Borini, Assaidi & Suso with Shaqiri, Lambert, Huntelaar & Markovich (also do deal for Origi as long term Lambert replacement) and give Texeira a chance this season. Reason for going for Huntelaar is simple: the future is now. We need a proven goalscorer and the wide players all lack experience.

i wonder how many millions was lost on england at the world cup, did anyone have them not to get out of the group

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I didn't think we'd get out of the group despite it being fairly weak

Agree0 Disagree0

Same here Chris, I thought Italy and Uruguay would beat us because they are just better than us. I thought we'd beat Costa Rica, they've pleasantly surprised me.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 23:08:04
Our squad is good enough. Sounds funny to say but if this team was managed by Sven we'd have been 1/4 finalists I'm sure of it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totti you are as deluded as the English media

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jul 2014 00:18:04
I agree with you Totti, Its the media which is at fault, they wanted an English manager, they forgot the last one failed to qualify them to the major tournament , this one failed to come out the of the group . not to forget it was the Italian manager that got us to the finals

Agree0 Disagree0

So its nothing to do with the quality of English players then OR the lack of England players in the prem.
Don't blame the media or Roy, blame the people who decide what's best for English youth football.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - but it was totally Roy's fault. He picked the team and chose tactics completely unsuited to the players he had available to him. If he had got the best out of his players, but they had still gone out, then you can blame the quality of player. He didn't, so that makes it his fault.}

Sorry Ed but we will have to agree to disagree on that.
IMO Roy selected the best players available to play for England, they were basically the best of a bad bunch. There is not enough technically gifted players available to choose from, even if he went with different tactics in games I still believe we would'nt of got out of the group stages.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - but that is besides the point. The point is that unless Woy gets the best out of the players he has, then it is his fault. Costa Rica has weaker players, but they got through. So how can it be the lack of technically gifted players? A good manager gets the best out of the resources at his disposal, a crap manager like Roy doesn't.}

You have to be deluded to suggest the problem was the quality of the team, on a particularly pessimistic day I might agree that was partially responsible but roy also would have to shoulder some of it - but i'm a realist and roy is tactically inept, seems totally incapable of instilling an ounce of motivation in his players and refuses to accept that players need to earn their place in the squad

Agree0 Disagree0

B_J
Roy should have to take some of the blame for the Englands crap world cup, that goes without saying but he should'nt have to take the whole blame.
The players just was'nt good enough and to be honest I don't think Mourino/Rogers/Gaal/or Benny Hill as manager would of made a shred of difference.

Agree0 Disagree0

If you were to offer the top clubs in the world the opportunity to choose half a dozen players from the starting eleven of either England, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Colombia, Switzerland, Algeria, or Nigeria - which national team do you think they would pick as the pool of players to choose from?

And if the team chosen by most clubs is the one that finishes last in its group - well, whose fault is that likely to be?

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 22:36:32
All this talk about strikers midfielders is doing my head in we need atleast one top class cb and another for backup and a left back of course if suatez keaves wee will need two top strikers but it gets old the same posts all day every day

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If you're waiting for 2 strikers you're going to be very disappointed

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol - so all the talk is of midfielders and attackers - you then say one striker leaves and we need to replace with 2.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why do we need two CB's?

if we sell one of skrtel or agger and coates we will have Sakho, Toure, Ilori, skrtel or agger and kelly, that's 5. we then buy a first 11 CB which would make it 6 first team CB's.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 22:03:57
Ed001, any chance of a quick comment?

Lots are saying this and that about our defence (and rightly so) and there are some who think we should have a complete new back 4, even if they don't know that's what they are saying! Do you think this would be a good or bad idea? I think the latter, as surely it would take a few games to learn how each other works and by then we could be out of the race!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - depends on how it happens. If Sakho is going to be first choice, then whoever is alongside him will need to establish an understanding with him. No point sticking with Skrtel and Johnson, as neither have an understanding with him or each other, if they are not seen as the long term option. Normally I would agree, that you would only want to change one at a time, if possible, but the defence was not a unit last season, so breaking that up would not really affect it. If Kelly is brought in as a partner, with Flanno at right back, then you have two players who should know each other well as team mates. So that would lessen any understanding issues massively. Then the change is limited to a new left back, who would have to develop that understanding. It is certainly not ideal though.

Not so quick a comment sorry!}

05 Jul 2014 22:23:26
Interesting comments about Kelly and Flanagan knowing each others play, do you actually think there is any chance that this could happen? Definitely think Kelly could have a future at centre back as oppose to right back

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Kelly is to be given a chance in preseason at centre back, up to him to take it now. It is likely to be Flanno next to him, as Johnson won't be back initially.}

Edd do u not think it was our gung ho approach that maybe cost us conceding goals. given our squad was small, the only option really s to go all out . maybe if we weren't so offensive we would have conceded less?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - but that gung ho approach also forced the opposition to hold more players back and play from deeper. That would have helped the defence out too.}

I think Enrique and Sakho should stay starting 11.

get in Yedlin to compete with Johnson, Flano & get in Layun to compete with Enrique

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jul 2014 00:08:46
Thanks Ed, I don't mind the long ones either, especially class ones like that!

Would you be happy with Flanno RB and Kelly RCB in a group CL match against one of the big boys, as that is something that still worries me somewhat?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I would be happier with that than I would be with Johnson and Skrtel in those positions.}

06 Jul 2014 08:30:13
Would be delighted if Kelly could nail down that spot. Although I have said I would like a first choice centre back like lovren I would be delighted to see Kelly and Flanagan playing in our back four together as think they have ability as well as passion for the club.
Think there is any chance of Rodgers seeing how our centre halves perform in pre season before going back in for lovren?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - there is a chance with the price being quoted so high, especially as we haven't offloaded any yet.}

But wasn't one of the main failings last season that we had no leader in defence, Sakho doesn't seem to be one and surely Kelly isn't so that's why we need the likes of Lovren

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 21:48:50
A couple of months ago there was talk on here of the younger hazard brother being looked at. Did anything come of that?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - yes, he went on loan to Germany.....}

05 Jul 2014 21:35:56
Edd001
Can I ask what you thing of wenger as a manager?
And lampard as a player, well in his younger years?
Random but i.would be interested in your thoughts mate

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I have to admit I am a little biased as I have met him and found him to be a really nice man. Overall though, leaving bias out of it, I think he was brilliant, but he has become too stubborn in recent years and forgotten the way he set his teams out that won him trophies. Initially he was in the forefront of all the technological advances and emphasised technique allied to power and pace. He created teams with balance to them, with Petit and Gilberto Silva, he had holding midfielders who broke up play and didn't charge forward at every opportunity. Nowadays his holding midfielders are make do and mend with Arteta etc used there, when it clearly doesn't suit their play or skill sets. Arsene is a very clever man, but he doesn't seem to want to do anything about that, nor does he want to spend money unless he has to. I think he has just lost that edge he had when he first came here, as nowadays all the managers use the technology and he is not buying players to create a balance in the side. Was a great manager but now he is just a very good manager.

Lampard is one of those players who has made the absolute maximum of his talents. I have the utmost respect for him for that. He has never been as naturally gifted as Gerrard, but he has worked so hard that he was able to be compared with him as the best English midfielders of their generation. He lacked the pace, the strength, that ability to play 50 yard pinpoint passes, but he has a fantastic footballing brain, which has enabled him to score so many goals as he always knew where to be to get on the end of balls breaking. He also worked so hard on his technique to be able to hit so many on target, which allowed him to get so many goals from deflections. It was partly luck, but luck that came from working so hard to get into place to hit the ball and get the luck.}

Great read, I agree about arsene, he's not the manager he use to be but I have always been.envious of how his teams play'
On.lampard, I agree he is a great professional, not so keen on his friendship with terry but terrys another story.
Cheers mate

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - you are welcome, sorry I got a bit carried away.}

06 Jul 2014 04:43:23
Ed001, many thanks for your comments. I really enjoy your open and honest views. so let me ask you this. Are Arsenal or Liverpool a bigger draw for non-UK players? I am obviously biased but I look at the trajectory of the 2 clubs. I look at the 2 managers today (as you said above Wenger is still great but maybe not excellent as he was before) and you look at Rogers and the newer generation who are playing attacking aggressive football, so would players look at us as a flash in the pan versus Arsenal who are perennial Champions League participants? I find it so hard to separate the emotion from this, but really struggle when you look at the style of play and the results from last season and someone would say. oh I am going to join Arsenal? Using Sanchez as an example, could he not see how he would be an incredible fit in our system? Yes, I know there are so many variable. but wonder if because we are just back threatening for one season that we get discounted somewhat

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - depends on the player. It is an impossible question to answer as each has their own peculiarities, likes and dislikes. Some areas of Spain, for example, everyone's second team is Liverpool, so any of the people from that area would choose us over any other. Almost every player watches the Premier League, so in recent years Arsenal have built up a huge following, so a lot of players would choose them because they are always up there. Some would want to live in London, because it is easier to fly home from there than anywhere else in the UK.}

05 Jul 2014 21:34:24
Hi all 1st post every one talking about a new left back why not go for dirk Kyut playing right back for holland and I'm shore he'd love a return it us what u thick Eds?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - well I would like to think I am not thick.....}

05 Jul 2014 21:13:44
Am I the only one that doesn't know whether to want Holland to win or lose. I want them to do well for Dirk but then want them to loss because of Van Persie and Van Gaal.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I wanted them to lose because I like the Costa Rica story, but Holland losing to Brazil in the final is the ideal result.
It gives Van Gaal less time to concentrate on the Mancs.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 20:52:56
Just because I'm curious to see how people rate him: how many goals do people expect Fabio Borini to get this coming season?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

05 Jul 2014 21:09:15
I really like the guy and I think with the way we play now (fast counter attacking) will suit his intelligent runs and constant running about.

Agree0 Disagree0

Depends on where and how often he's played. I suspect if he's still here he'll get occasional minutes, largely on the left as he did at Sunderland, so his goal production won't be massive. Perhaps 4 or 5.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 in all competitions. More if he gets some league starts. I think he'll be used as an impact sub and cup striker though. I doubt he'll get more than 15 starts but his energy off the bench will make him a real hand full!

Agree0 Disagree0

9 goals from 12 starts and 16 substitute appearances, it is fantasy guessing so might as well guess :)

Agree0 Disagree0

None for Liverpool

05 Jul 2014 20:59:57
Maybe not single handed but the team was set up for him,he did deliver some great moments and made us such a dangerous side to face. Hopefully I'm wrong but the new season maybe a lot harder without him. Only my opinion.

Personally I'd like to see Ashley cole come in at lb, Gary medel as a dm, and I'd also try do a deal with Sunderland in letting them have boring and us taking Connor wickham, tha lad is still young and has shown in flashes he has the ability, I think Rodgers could work wonders with him

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Cole would cost us a fortune and his age is against him. If he was cheaper then yes all day long. Medel we should have gone in for him before he signed for Cardiff but we have enough centre mids now. I was about to say that you were a bit harsh on borini but then my autocorrect changed it to boring so I assume that yours did the same thing haha! I do think borini deserves a shot with us though I think he's got more potential than wickham.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jul 2014 11:01:27
I think cole would be worth it,you could risk 7m plus wages on someone who may not cut it,plus his experience would help the younger players,I'd have medel instead of Lucas now,more mobile.and yes it was the autocorrect on borini ,but I still think wickham has more potential,and he's going into the last year of his contract so might be available at a decent price

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 19:09:35
Well eds how's things. What's the story with Jose Enrique not a bad LB when fit or would rodgers want to sell or get rid of thank you joe

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he is a very poor left back to work with, never listens to instructions from the coaching staff, never listens to his team mates. He is available for a transfer because of that.}

Thank good, he is a waste of money get rid as soon as pos

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 18:51:48
More of a question than a rumour eds. In your opinion, considering we are expecting a huge return from the sale of Suarez, would you say it makes more sense to bring in all the major players we want before selling him? Just like Levy did with the sale of Bale? I feel any player we show interest in after selling Suarez will be overpriced. Would really like to know what you think.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I don't think it matters, clubs have assumed we are going to sell Suarez to fund transfers for a while.}

05 Jul 2014 16:33:23
hey ed's with suarez seemingly out the door, do you think the club will look to bring in another striker, to play alongside sturridge or will we be playing lone striker with lambert and borini as backups?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I think there are other priorities first mate.}

05 Jul 2014 16:14:33
Ed you said Moreno deal was off after the fee was agreed just down to how it was paid. can you just answer did they want all the fee up front? If not and they just wanted a larger percentage up front I would imagine with the Suarez money they would at least consider revisiting this. I know the Suarez money obviously won't all be up front and any up front payment would probably be used on a replacement but I still have a feeling we might go back for Moreno although it could just be hope.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - not all of the fee up front, just more of it than we were willing to pay. I keep forgetting to choose a box each time I answer this, so sorry, I have answered it about ten times and forgotten to actually post it. Fingers crossed this time I remember!!}

Thanks ed I was wondering why it wasn't posted as I couldn't find it in the search function before. this just seems such a strange transfer to give up on considering we met the asking price and have money from Suarez. at the same time I would certainly prefer if we shifted agger/skrtel reina Enrique Lucas assaidi ASAP. I know that our deals are done on a independent basis but if we got rid of these the club would naturally have to feel more comfortable pushing and finalizing transfers

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 20:12:12
This transfer window is going to be the most important in years the last we finished 2nd and we failed in the transfer window look how we ended up and with us selling our key goalscorer and assist maker its going to be even more important that we get it right.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well we are selling our goal scorer and the assist maker, its so similar that we could end up going backwards again

Agree0 Disagree0

This is post is about Sturridge - not Suarez:
There has to be some kind of parameter put on the actions of footballers. Just because Suarez was an excellent footballer doesn't mean we should want him back (- no matter how much we may miss his ability).
These guys have to learn that they can't just do whatever they want and fans will adore them regardless.
Hes a fool. Liverpool fc and fans have had enough. Out you go Suarez.
He gave Sturridge a hard time quite often last season. Sturridge always, ALWAYS had to give way. Sturridge is the main man now. I think he'll thrive. I think he'll do it.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hardly, pretty sure it was Suarez who moved positions to accomodate Sturridge?

Correct me if I'm wrong.

YNWA

Agree0 Disagree0

Sturridge played up the middle and suarez went on the left most of the time, but you maybe talking about subs but he never came off for suarez, so what you said is nonsense,

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Sturridge and Suarez interchanged, Sturridge spent as much time wide as Suarez did.}

Lads, i'm not trying to argue about who played where. i'm trying to say that Suarez was clearly 'the man' last season. When it comes to strikers these days there's only really one 'main man' in a team. And my take from afar was that Suarez was that main man.
Let me explain. whenever a ball went loose; Suarez blamed Sturridge (and everyone else); whenever Sturridge had the cheek to answer back - Sturridge was subbed. This occurred without exception.
Its my belief that Sturridge was well aware of this. But those days are gone. Sturridge is now 'the man'. He won't be subbed anymore. He'll be a revelation. He the man now!

Yedlin won't come for a trial he has barely played for the senior team and I'm not positive how it works but a work permit could be difficult. And the mls is in full swing so a trial is unlikely. Plus his recent hair styles were too flashy so no way

A little weird if they are.

05 Jul 2014 19:31:56
Tell you what if you think about this Liverpool have done rather bloody well.

To go from 7th with a striker that wanted to move to getting in the Champions League (which was the ambition and hopes for all) to almost snatching a title and then getting a rubbish load more poke for said striker even after he loses his head again.at a World Cup and gets banned. I tell you what I'd rather be in this position with us now than back in 7th wouldn't everyone agree?

We have a real cause for optimism now could you have said that before?

I think that's down to the Management at the club. Its been fantstic to watch and once again been exciting to be involved and feeling the nerves in games.

We've got a lad there would go through a wall for us in Lambert. The contrast between him and our almost former No.7 speaks volumes. Adding Lallana was easier than I'd have ever expected and Emre Can well I would think with Sami knowing him we would know a bit more before he came.

With one 2 or possibly 3 in we have quality in the 11 and players returning from loans Ilori also Ibe to possibly step up. I mean its a World of difference isn't it from being 7th and last summers signings? While we hoped Aspas and Alberto could come straight in it unfortunately didn't happen.

Could be a great season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Careful jiffy, you could get banned for showing optimism!

Tend to agree though.

Does anyone know how many Suarez scored against the top 4 or top 6? I can think of one against everyone, but apart from that I'm struggling? This is not a dog at him, I'm just curious

Evening conbicks. I posted about this on the other site a couple of days ago: he didn't score against any of the other top four teams, and only scored nine against teams in the top half of the table.
Also, he scored less 'crucial' goals than Sturridge, Sterling and Gerrard. (By crucial, I mean goals which altered a result from a loss to a draw, or a draw to a win).
All stupid statistics I know, but hey, if it makes us feel better.

Agree0 Disagree0

If no-one scores against the bottom half teams we're not going to get many points.
I think it's a redundant argument.
All the stat shows is that a decent defence can keep Suarez quiet, but that provides opportunities for the other players.
Lets not kid ourselves. He's a match winner and a world class footballer. He's also a complete twit and we are going to make a lot of money from him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Got to agree with ken on this. With everyone marking Suarez it gives others space. I'd also like to see the stats on how many Suarez set up against the bigger teams as he creates as much as he scores, but he has to go for the money if nothing else. I couldn't really see how we could sustain his wages.

Agree0 Disagree0

The corollary is also true- with people busy marking the likes of a Sturridge and Sterling, Suarez equally has more space, thus why his finishing percentage was much higher and why he had 31 goals instead of 11. It works both ways and isn't just an advantage for Sturridge as is often mentioned.

Agree0 Disagree0

That was the point I made about stupid statistics Ken. You're right, it doesn't take into account his movement and creativity, creating chances/space for others.
Without delving into statistics again though, it's interesting to note that his maverick genius makes us a more potent attacking force, but also sees us concede more goals. A case of a player playing his way, rather than the team way?.,,

Agree0 Disagree0

Listen, I've had enough of Suarez now but you can't doubt his quality. Ok he's scored loads versus teams other than the top 4 or 6 but how many times over the years have we failed to score/ win against teams like this and said your Chelsea's, city's and dare I say it. (No I won't even say it, you get the gist) wouldn't drop points against teams like that.

I think what will happen with Suarez is the same as what heppened with torres Liverpool made them the Stars they are today to many big name players who want to be the top goal scorer so let's see what happens

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Torres was broken as a player when he was sold. Suarez is only broken mentally, not physically so I can only see him doing well for Barcelona and it would not surprise me at all if he were to usurp Messi as their top scorer.

Agree0 Disagree0

If he topped messi with the missing games, then there would be uproar

Agree0 Disagree0

How is the cannibal broken mentally

Agree0 Disagree0

I disagree, the only reason suarez has done so well is that the team is set up for him to do well. At barca it is built around messi, I expect suarez to have the same kind of impact as neymar

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarez is a world class player.
Torres was a world class finisher.
Torres relied on his pace a lot and once he got injured he was always struggling.

Suarez doesn't rely on pace. He'll do brilliantly at Barca, but so what. Once he leaves LFC I couldn't give a conker about him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarez won't suit them that well either, their game being very possession based and Suarez likes to try things which don't always come off. Barca won't like him losing the ball as much he did for us, we didn't mind because he could create something out of nothing but in Barca I think they'll want his pass percentage to be better and to leave more of the magic to Messi.

Agree0 Disagree0

The only difference is we already have his replacement on the books in Studge. no need to look for a 20+ goalscorer just another talent to develop like Muriel.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 18:07:39
We came into window desperate by everyone's admission for a wide player. If we lose Suarez will we still only sign one? Sterling is our only recognised wide man I think, god knows how many Chelsea, city and united have.

I guess it depends on how we are going to play next year. Rodgers did favour the diamond for a while which does t use traditional wide men.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Lallana can play wide as can Markovic who has been linked a lot.

Agree0 Disagree0

Assaidi, ibe, if needed lallana

Agree0 Disagree0

Assaidi will surely be sold?

Agree0 Disagree0

And they all finished behind us last season apart from city who only have 1 (navas)

Agree0 Disagree0

Perhaps Borini and Ibe will be given a chance?

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought we were desperate for a left back, not a wide player.

Lallana won't play there, he's too pedestrian.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jul 2014 01:42:45
Erm eez eh hello? Navas, Milner, Silva, Nasri. All capable of playing out wide. Hardly "one".

Was just thinking out loud that Lille want Origi to stay on loan for his season as they believe it would be good for his development.yet he is the main striker for Belgium in the a World Cup Quarter Final.

He must be massively behind in his development ;-)

So many moronic posts today about expecting £80m and upwards. Sighting wrongly an £80m clause. If you use the right currency (euros) that is the figure the eds say we wanted, they also say barca wanted to pay 70m euros but settled for a price half way between 70 & 80. So 75m euros which converts into £'s using the search engine at £59m & change. I trust 002. I wish it was the £63m it says in the papers or even better the £80m plus the fans wanted but the guy took a bite out of 3 players & could easily do it again. Add to that his wage which costs us a lot weekly (while he can't even train) with what we may save in that although he'll probably & stupidly get a loyalty bonus too!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

His release clause is just over 70m pounds.if we decide to accept lower than that then its on us

Agree0 Disagree0

Hes also 29 in 18 months, a remarkable sum for a player who has had so many problems and for that age

Are you being serious or are you joking Conbicks? Doesn't look like sarcasm but I hope that's supposed to be a joke!

I am so pleased ed001 said Suarez doesn't deserve the adoration he gets!

We've had better players in the past,
& we'll have better players in the future.

Get over him

One thing I dis liked last season was when they announced the teams and number 7 Suarez was the loudest announcement.

Agree0 Disagree0

What did you expect us to do, boo?! It's all subjective, but he's been up there with Dalglish and Barnes as the best players I've seen in a red shirt. He almost single handedly made our dreams. For that I will always be grateful,

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 19:18:30
And here is me thinking that football's a team game.

Agree0 Disagree0

We may have not ever had a better forward and certainly not anyone as creative but we have had great forards who don't bite. For me Fowler was the best striker we had, and daglish played great up front and in middle of park

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 19:39:36
Give me names then Craggan.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm with you Rome. like Torres he gave us so many good memories and a massive, MASSIVE golden handshake on his way out the door.
We can't lose.

Agree0 Disagree0

If ed001 said play on a motorway would you do it? Just because it's eds opinion, it doesn't mean its right.

Ed001 backing up your opinion is nice but it doesn't mean people opposing your opinion and his must be wrong

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - are you sure? ;o)

I think he absolutely deserves the plaudits he gets for his football.

He's a complete twit and deserves the criticism he gets for that.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well craggan I can only think of 2 or 3 in his class and maybe none are better, before all this sh*te I wanted him to stay now I don't, but he is a truly wonderous footballer, just a bit mental.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 22:26:22
Dalglish
Barnes
Gerrard
Fowler

And probably some more like carra & hyppia who certainly weren't as talented but deserve admiration so much more than him.

Next season we will prove we don't need him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Your top 3 was it craggan, fowler love him to bits, my heart says yes but my head says no. I think even Dagger couldn't/ didn't do some of the things Suarez has done, but Zsuarez isn't in the same league as any of them as a person.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ohk so that wasn't Suarez balling his eyes out when we drew against Palace, Ohhh sorry my bad.

Agree0 Disagree0

So Luis Suarez doesn't deserve the adoration for getting us back into the Champions League?

If it wasn't for Suarez we would be fighting for 4th for a few more years at least. We were lucky enough to bring in a true world class player and regardless of his behavioural issues he is an incredible footballer who deserves all the adoration he has received for his performances over the course of last season.

Also, all these fans moaning about how Suarez only scores against the "lesser teams", have you forgotten so quickly how we would draw or lose "easy" games over the past few years. It is not the big games that win you titles, it's about picking up the points from the "lesser teams" and getting what you can from the top teams.

Red Rum

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he didn't get us back there, he was part of a team that did, a team in which he missed the beginning of the season. He was a good part of a team, but he was only one part, not even essential, as the beginning and end of the season showed. We got on fine without him at the start and then flopped with him but after losing Henderson. So no, he doesn't deserve the adulation, the team does, a team which he is no longer going to be part of. If one man deserves more praise than another for how the team got on, it would have to be Rodgers, not Suarez.}

05 Jul 2014 16:30:56
Once Suarez leaves we will be in trouble! sturridge feeds off the quality of suarez, which won't be there no more. the missing of creative of suarez is a huge loss, as that makes our team play the way it does. If we don't replace Suarez with a quality signing we have no hope next year, to give a title challenge and even qualifying out of the group stage of CL.

Suarez in my mind is a legend for us because he brought the glory days back for us.

fans respect him for what he did for us. not on the fact he knocked out england, or biting a player.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - but he bit a player while playing for us, or are you so busy defending the indefensible you are conveniently forgetting that? We wouldn't miss him sat on the sidelines collecting huge amounts of money for yet another ban would we? Nor would we miss this constant whine from his apologists about how he is wonderful, when he has done nothing to deserve the pathetic adoration. Legend? Not even close to one. Legends don't threaten court action to get a move away. Brought the glory days back? How on earth did he do that? Did he win us the Prem and Champions League on his own?}

Correct me if i'm wrong but Sturridge scored

3 Vs. Fulham
2 Vs Newcastle
1 against Stoke, Villa, Manchester United & Swansea all while Suarez was suspended

Sturridge is a good player with or without Suarez

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarez had to go, it's as simple as that. I do agree that our attack will be weakened with his departure, as you say he does work well with Sturridge and brings a fear factor very few can.

We cannot replace him like for like, perhaps a wide forward and another striker but that is probably too much to ask.

As a fan he is the most exciting player I have seen in a red shirt but he had to go. Replacing his goals/assists will be tough but so will his desire to win. We just have to back Brendan to get it right.

Agree0 Disagree0

I posted the other day that both Ajax and ourselves actually both have significantly higher win ratios without him in the team. Suarez has proved both on and off the pitch he is not a team player but is a selfish self centred child. As it is a team game we will be able to invest the fee strengthen and in fact be stronger when he is got, not the reverse.

Agree0 Disagree0

Far too much credit to Suarez. Last I checked, Suarez was here when we finished 6th, 8th, and 7th was he not? Or did he just join last season and I imagined those others? The reason we jumped up the table was due to new signings performing well (Sturridge and Coutinho), the improvement in form of existing players (Henderson and Sterling in particular), and the adoption of a play style that allows for more goals at both sides of the pitch.

Liverpool made Suarez great, it is not solely Suarez which makes Liverpool great.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tonkz99
Y and how could you ever use the word legend in the same sentance as suarez? You are putting him intothe same catergory as dalglish, souness and gerrard. You must be 5 or you wouldnever do this, suarez as a player is world class, as a person and a member of lfc he is a beep

Agree0 Disagree0

Sturridge will be fine without saurez!
plus we have lallana, couthinio, sterling and gerrard who will create plenty of chances for sturridge

Agree0 Disagree0

Tonkz I happen to agree with you. Despite his antics he is a match winner and we are going to suffer because of it.unless he is replaced with someone of similar qualities everyone or most will wish he was back

Agree0 Disagree0

He's really not a match winner, or at least historically wasn't for us.

Sturridge is a match winner, Suarez is the guy who pounds lesser teams into absolute pieces.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can see us sliding back down the table

Agree0 Disagree0

Eds is right, and its not even debatable!

He is a world class player if you can forget how many games he has missed due to his mental age being similar to a 16 year old yob.
He has let his club and country down due to the fact he is unable to forget about himself and his own gripes!

the guy needs to go and quickly. I would at this time take sanchez and 20 million without question

I would rather have 2 very good players than suarez

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree that he is a truely great player. I don't think it can be argued any other way. He plays with a real fire and passion and I have to say I love the way he celebrates, looking for his family. I would also guess that he is a decent enough guy of the pitch. He comes across quite humble to me. I actually have a degree of sympathy for him but it doesn't take away from the antics that he has done before at our club and previous. Ill advised? South American temperment? Mental issues? I don't know but with the possibility of a 2 year ban hanging over his head I will be happy enough to watch him play for Barca and hopefully upstage Messi in the process. I also hope he learns from his mistakes this time and never repeats them. It would be a waste of a fantastic talent. Its up to you Luis. Good luck for the future.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 16:28:46
I just hope that Brendan gets an opportunity to meet with Sanchez. His passion and ambition will surely count over Arsene Wenger's record - great that it is but it is in the past. Liverpool are the future and Sanchez will hopefully recognise that BR is a special talent and see his enthusiasm and charisma and make the right choice.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

05 Jul 2014 19:02:42
And what make you think Arsene lacks passion and ambition .
And sadly BR have not proved yet that he is a special talent, he might do at the end of next season, so let's hope Sanchez waits till then

If lovren cost 25M pounds, i'll rather prefer to try to buy Hummels at a similar price. He is far better than Lovren. For now I'll stay like we are and try to promote Ilori or even L Jones or Paez.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Wages. Key factor, saints don't pay much. Americans adore them.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 17:15:21
Fully agree, although Lovren is an excellent CB I just can't see us paying over the supposed £20m bid we have had rejected, I don't think we should be looking at anyrhong over £15m for him to be honest. Time to move on to either another target or as you point out bring Llori in and get him some game time and PL experience and keep are remaining CB's.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ozone. I feel a stream of negativity coming on from you. It's not what Saints pay in wag that matters but what clubs who also want to sign their players will pay them. Did we get Lallana by offering him an extra two bob a week? No. FSG sanctioned yet another 100k per week salary. The type of contract that then makes it hard to shift people like Agger, Reina etc when they are going to a club with less resources than Liverpool. No doubt you'll then have a pop at Ayre for not getting enough for them?

Agree0 Disagree0

Not sure why you think Hummels could be gotten, much less for £25M?

Agree0 Disagree0

I would take olvren for £20-22. he is still young and has many great attributes. not to mention hummels I think is a lot less likely to want to move to LFC and no less likely that his team would not allow him to move

Agree0 Disagree0

Saints have absolutely rinsed us in this window. We've over paid massively for Lala, Lovren is not worth more than £15m and Lambert is slightly over priced at £4m.

Agree0 Disagree0

Your right Anfieldboy, I'm on a negative one and I can assure you Lallana won't be on £100k a week.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ken I usually agree with you but we haven't been rinsed mate. Getting a striker who's responsible for 43% of Saints goals for 4m is daylight robbery. Lallana is their skipper so 25m was always going to be a starting point for a game changer. Lovren I'd agree with. We had our chance at 8m so I think 20m is too much but from a Saints point of view he's much better than Sakho and we paid 18m for him. We've also got CL money (to come), we made more out of TV apps than any other team last season and are just about to sell one player for considerably more than we are paying them for the spine of their team! I'd say we've done pretty well.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 14:57:10
Hello Eds, after selling Suarez and if we failed in Sanchez deal, do we have eyes on any alternatives already. If not, who could be the possiblilties.?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I have explained repeatedly where I know of interest - RTP.}

It's already done, Lallana. Oligi to be brought in as cover for Sturridge. Borinis back and Lamberts the fourth striker. Shaqiri as an option for either Lallana or Sterling. Can in to cover Gerrard and Hendo. Lucas, Agger, Aspas to go. Lovren to compliment Sakho and Skrtle. Left back to come in and maybe Richards in for right back and central cover.

Agree0 Disagree0

I know enough about Rodgers to guarantee that Lallana is not the player brought in to fill Suarez's shoes. And neither is Rickie Lambert. Lallana is an extra body compare to last season and ensures we have two playmakers (Couts the other). Lambert is to replace Aspas who'll be off. We will invest in 2 more forward players with the LS money.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes Origi and Borini Anfieldboy.

Agree0 Disagree0

Do you know Rodgers personally Anfieldboy? If not what is it you know of him to provide confirmation Lallanas not a replacement for Suarez and he's bringing in two more forwards. Maybe the owners might have something to say about it!

Agree0 Disagree0

We will see Ozone. I say two more attackers will be signed and you say Lallana is Suarez replacement. I will lay good money that Lallana will mainly play as a 10 or left-side midfield. More provider than goalscorer.

Origi (if he's signed) will stay at Lille next season so is clearly not going to be a Sturridge understudy.

Do the maths. Two players for every position which means 6 players to cover the "front 3". Sturridge, Sterling, Lambert & Borini makes 4. Only one of which is a natural wide player.

Ed's I know you don't like to talk money. But if the reports of us selling Suarez for 63 million are true we should all be outraged. 63 million and Sanchez, that's reasonable. But 63 million alone is disgusting. Arguably the best player in the world and we let him go for any less than 80-100 is a joke. We will not be able to replace and improve our squad with that (since most of that has been spent on lallana and our other transfers). Whoever is responsible for this deal better be sacked.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The expectations of the fans are way too high - I have explained this over and over. I have zero sympathy for complaints. Sorry.}

I agree Suarez is in the top 3 footballers in the world but I think 63m is good business. Barcelona are taking a huge risk. If Suarez steps out of line again it could be a 2 year to a lifetime ban. Suarez has to go after dragging the clubs name through the mud over and over and I would think there are not many clubs that would take him at the moment. If 63m is the highest we can get for him we have to take it.

Agree0 Disagree0

How is £63 million an outrage!
Seriously annoying to hear people talk like this.

Most people will not earn close to that in their lives and these are people who do their job without having time off every few months due to urinating on their boss, biting colleagues or anything else.
TAKE IT AND RUN!

Totally and utterly agre lfcohio, I consider us to be an absolute joke in the transfer market, letting him go for a paltry £63 mill is an utter disgrace.

As for Ed002's, we the fans expectations are not over the top, I for one feel let down by the club, I have no problem Suarez going but yet AGAiN we have been short changed, we should have at least sold him for his buy out clause and NOTHING less.

The club are a disgrace, it was Suarez that done the biting so why should the club let him go on the cheap, if anything they should have demanded the lost revenue we have lost off Suarez himself.

What make me angry we are prepared to pay and do pay well over the odds for players, as far as I am concerned we are a joke in the transfer market, we have not got a clue

alan50

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - why should the club let him go on the cheap? Are you taking the mick or are you seriously that clueless? How is it on the cheap when he has a huge ban over his head and a potentially larger one in the future? How is it cheap when we need to get rid? You think they should have demanded the lost revenue off Suarez, when they quite simply can't. You should be instead aiming your anger towards FIFA, UEFA, the FA and the PFA for how player's contracts are constructed, if you feel clubs should be able to do things like that.}

05 Jul 2014 14:42:48
Eds assuming we get £75m for suarez, will we have to bank most of that due to FFP or are we free to invest it?

This pan European league, although a long way off, who will be in charge of rules etc? Fifa?

With FSG coming in do you expect them to hang around or should I say was that their initial plan to move into this format and then see what the situation is? Is there a timescale on their plans?

Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The league will create their own rules. Liverpool has not been involved in any of the discussions - and won't be again at the next meeting at the end of August.}

Is that because Liverpool have no interest (which I presume not) or have not been invited due to recent non participation in European competitions. Shows you that football has no place for history!

I think people saying we need to replace Suarez goals and that if we bring in quantity and not quality like Tottenham we will have a hard season need to realise every situation is different.
Tottenham signed a lot of young players with little or no experience outside of their own league and huge language and lifestyle barriers.
We have ready brought back borini and signed lallana and Lambert who are all used to the league culture and language so won't require the same adjustment as players Tottenham brought in.
Also we are looking at lovren who again would not have those settling in issues.
Finally in terms of bringing in a 30 goal player we won't need to if we can sign our defensive targets and hopefully save a good amount of goals conceded over the season. In top of this I would expect sterling to score more as he was not that productive in the first half of last season, we already have lallana and lambert who should provide goals through assists and goals so I honestly don't think it is a disaster if we fail to sign a 20-30 goal a season striker

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If sign Sanchez then it would be a seamless transition after Suarez. It would seem like a direct replacement.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 17:39:53
I agree it would be ideal, but if we miss out on him and go for a less proven and experienced wide player I still would not be concerned and Lambert, lallana and borini will add some goals and defence should be stronger as well as coutinho, strurridge sndnsterlijg being a year older and hopefully still improving

I have this fear that Shaqiri and Hunterlaar will use LFC's interest to strengthen their negotiating and have no intention of moving here, I think Sanchez doesn't want to come here either! I don't know who we will replace Suarez with when he leaves, if any posters on here can ease my worries with who we COULD SIGN please feel free to help me out, some fans say we should not worry it will turn out fine, I hope they are right, but LS shoes are pretty big ones to fill, and some of the transfers we have made the last few seasons have not filled me with confidence, any way we shall see, fingers crossed, so could the regular posters on here (who have a very good football knowledge) please ease my worries and tell me who will make us a better team capable of winning the CL and EPL.

Reminiscing about seasons past, what would be your most memorable? I couldn't split the double in '86 (KK was immense as player manager) and winning the CL in '05. Runner-up was the Treble in '01. Anyone around longer than I have been to remember some of the older successes?

Have a great weekend Reds and Ed's.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

1977. League winners, getting beat 2-1 by man u in the fa cup final and then travelling overland in a transit van to Rome to win the European cup for the first time.

Agree0 Disagree0

It has to be the 06 fa cup final.we were about 6 listening to this very small radio and we all had to struggle for ear space

Agree0 Disagree0

It has to be '05 for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

Robbie77, my Dad picked that too, I was born a couple of weeks after!

Agree0 Disagree0

Robbie 77. It's still my most vivid memory from years past - the European Cup Final. Liverpool dominated most of the game, and the defining moment was Kevin Keegan scurrying towards goal, one on one against Vogts ("the bulldog"), and daring him to bring him down for a penalty.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 16:09:23
I am old enough to remember 1977, and my main memory is seeing all the red and white checked flags in the Olympic Stadium in Rome.

The most satisfying league season for me was 1978-79. Played 42, won 30, drew 8, lost 4, 85 goals scored I think, 16 goals conceded with only 4 conceded at home! Dalglish, Souness and McDermott were at their best. For me, our best ever team.

Just a quick question Eds will the transfer of Suarez be paid in GBP or euro? i'm presuming euro?
Thanks
Jack!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I have no idea, I would assume Euro as the deal will be done in those.}

Be best changing euros over at my local post office they do a great exchange rate on sterling!

Ed001, might be a stupid question, but do you work for LFC? I thought I saw something about you analysing youth teams at Liverpool?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - no mate, the sites are my job.}

Okay thanks. How come you moved to Dubai, doesn't that make communication harder? I mean take longer to get info or is everything spread by the computer?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - computers and phones are the main communication method, so it makes little difference. We decided to move the business out here because the savings in tax allow us to run the free competitions. We had some seed money saved to do something, and it was either this or pay it all in tax. This way, we can put money towards employing editors on a full time basis. In the UK, unless you use loopholes, you get taxed on profit made, which includes money saved in a bank that you intend to use to invest in the business. So you end up not being able to save or see large chunks get taken off you, even though the money would have been used to employ someone. I didn't like the idea of borrowing money, and I wasn't going to start employing someone without making sure that I had at least one year's wages for them saved, so that if it all went wrong, they had a year's work at least. So this seemed the best solution all round, especially as half the footballers on earth spend chunks of time out here!}

That makes sense. How does it feel so far? Do you miss your daughter etc? Assuming she didn't move along.
Hopefully youll be able to employ another editor soon as it would better the pages even more!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - that is the thing that I do miss! I absolutely love it out here, apart from only getting to see her for a couple of weeks here and there. I am hoping to convince her to move out here too. She does really love it when she visits, so I will keep trying.
Fingers crossed mate, we would like to employ someone full time to help Ed033 doing the upgrades as well. He has so much to do with all the upgrades, it is hard for him to get through it all. Every time he does get one thing crossed off his to do list, I add 3 more things we could improve on. That is not even counting all the ideas for games we want to build for the sites as well. Poor fella is getting worked to death!}

Any jobs going? Hahah.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - for an unpaid intern, yes ;o)

Edd001 great read! Can I ask if you are starting any businesss within the uk, is your profit taxed?
How come you didn't possibly locate to southern ireland, the business tax there is the cheapest in europe I believe'

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - as far as I am aware it applies to all businesses that aren't classed as charitable or non-profit organisations.
There were a number of reasons, from weather (which is the main one) to knowing Dubai well having worked here in the past.}

05 Jul 2014 14:32:11
Ed001. I have been following this site for more than few years. If I could be of any help in the upgrades for this site on the technical side, let me know.

I am ready to do it out of sheer appreciation for Liverpool and you guys for keeping this site up.

Good luck with it all mate

I will be.optimistic when we replace.suarez with.a goalscorer, we are losing 33 goals so it has to be realisticly a player.capable of atleast 20goals. A CB and a LB which.should have been.our main priorities tbh. Hope we tie up the lovren deal and avoid betrand but we shall see

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Be prepared for disappointment.

Agree0 Disagree0

You don't have to replace a player like for like we can shift the team around and sturridge can replace Suarez he can hit 20 again & playing with wingers who can score sterling & potentially shaqiri with lallana hendo & Gerrard behind

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 12:39:33
It's not as simple as just losing that many goals? He got goals because we played around him. It's like taking Henderson out the team who may of set up a lot of goals for suarez maybe not assist but was part of the reason we scored. We have no idea what would of happened if we sold suarez. How many goals did we concede due to playing suarez? We may score less but defend better.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well if we are looking for someone to replace Suarez then we will be disapointed but anyone with a bit of sense will know that's not possible. We can of course improve the team and the squad. Hopefully then Suarez departure will not have such an impact.

Agree0 Disagree0

Deary me!
Did I say.like for like?! No. When you lose a midfielder you use the term replace.
We need a.goalscorer not a sturridge or falco, a wide player or attacking player capable of atleast 20goals. We would have been nowere near challenging last season if you take 30plus goals out of a team.
Lallanas a playmaker if people chose to mention him

Agree0 Disagree0

Big Al. Before signing anyone else Lallana & Lambert provide 22 PL goals. They could score more in a better team though. And of course LS wouldn't have got 30 goals again anyway as he got himself banned for a quarter of the season. So when we factor in an improved defence we aren't talking about a major goals shortfall at all. And in 3.5 seasons with LS we finished top 4 once. To listen to some people he's been winning the title for us every year. We will definitely lose something in terms of a fear factor. But it's up to Sturridge & Sterling and the new boys to get themselves to that level. Also Sturridge has a much better scoring rate for Liverpool than LS by the way.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's going to be completely impossible to replace the best player in the world. Which us why Barca must pay for taking him away. Sanchez might be a consolation prize but whoever we get, it's a downgrade for sure. We've survived it before and will do again, but it might take some time to unearth the next talisman.

Hi Ed001. love this site followed it for years.

anyways this is my 1st ever post! You said below that Liverpool fc hasn't acheived our top 2 targets yet. who are they?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I should have said three, and it is a wide forward, left back and centre back.}

05 Jul 2014 11:54:32
Morning ed001 quick question would Liverpool have to pay luis Suarez loyalty bonus from any fee received and in your opinion do you think shaqiri will be an lfc player next season thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - yes, unless he hands in a written transfer request. I think Shaqiri might end up signing a bumper new Bayern deal.}

I just wanted to thank the 649 people who entered our free World Cup Correct Score competition on football-rumours, even though we only got it ready to launch extremely late! Good luck to all of you over the last few games.

We will be running the Correct Score competition again throughout the season, with monthly prizes and ones for the whole season. It will still be free to enter and the monthly winners will receive a £35 club shop voucher for their team, runners up a £15 voucher and 3rd will get a £5 voucher. At the end of the season, the overall winner will get a £50 voucher, 2nd a £25 voucher and 3rd a £10 voucher. Look out for it to be launched soon!

All our competition winners will soon have a badge to display on their profile and next to their name when they post. They are just the first in our forthcoming range of profile badges you can get for reaching goals on the sites.

We are also in the middle of producing a new game, which will run on our betting site (footballrumoursbets.co.uk), which is currently in alpha testing. The game is to be called 'Flat Out Racing' and will be about betting on live computer simulated horse races. It will be free to play and we will be running prize competitions on it, which will also be free to enter, as soon as it is ready to enter beta testing. Please look out for the beta test launch and participate in helping us, you never know you could win a prize for doing so!

There are lots more improvements and additions coming to the sites in the future, as we have a huge list of things we intend to bring out as soon as we can. From more competitions and games, to new features for your profiles and the sites.

Thank you to all of you who have registered an account with us, over 23000 of them have been created.

I hope Suarez's replacement is out of the below players.

A. Greizeman.
E. Lavezzi.
A. Sanchez.

If Sanchez isn't part of the Suarez deal why try for Martin Montoya instead would be our right back for years and can cover left too.

This would allow us to let Johnson leave nd still have Flannaghan developing and Kelly recovering from his injury.

Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thanks Ed. Apols for the poor message, damn predictive text.

{Ed001's Note - ah of course predictive text, I always blame that too, even though I don't have that option selected on my phone either ;o)

Hi Ed001 Can't wait to see the new ideas up and running for this site well done mate.Just one question please.This story about that young American RB getting a trial with us is it BS or genuine?
Cheer's all
BarryinLouth

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it was an offer made to him, difficulty is in knowing if the offer was a real one from the club, or if it was someone pretending to be from the club! There are a lot of people who will claim to represent a club that have no affiliation to them, just to get in with a player. When they get the player's agreement to a trial, they then go and try and arrange one with the club, while claiming to represent the player. I only know that he got an offer to have a trial with us, but I don't know how legitimate the offer is as I don't know who it was that actually made the offer. This is why I normally avoid commenting on trials and youth moves, as they are so murky.}

He does look good tho.I really have lost patience with GJ Ed.Thanks again.

The last time we finished second in the League was under Rafa. We ended up selling Alonso and replacing him with that injury feigning Italian. Now, once again after finishing second in the league we are selling a star player, our best quite frankly (regardless of whether our hand is forced or not).
Now my questions is, can fellow Reds see us struggling to maintain our position and fall out of the top four all together as we did under Rafa?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Support the team regardless

A change of focus from the Suarez posts. how cool will it be for Lambert to step out onto the Anfield turf this season! Good for him, I hope he does well as I've no doubt he will be trying his heart out. I bet he'll be beaming.

Really looking forward to seeing Lallana and Can as well. Plus all our youngsters in pre-season. Be great if some can step up this year.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - expect? No.}

I agree, Ed.

Agree0 Disagree0

See what you did there ed. trying not to jinx it . good one :)
tbh though I really don't care if we get him or not, i'm sure if its not him we'll get some1 else to replace suarez no worries.
but in all fairness, I want to thank suarez for all the joy he and the team have brought me the past couple years, wish him the best of luck at barca

That's that settled then. I am old and experienced enough to know that every time we end up competing with another big club for a top target we lose out.

A question for any Ed if possible please. Forget specific numbers but do you think the expansion of Anfield plus the good world-wide marketing the club are doing will put the club into profit in the next few years? Plus any revenue from CL if we can continue to qualify for a few seasons.

Thank you

Bryan

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - no, we have to pay for the expansion first, that will cost a significant amount. Once completed it should make a huge difference to us though.}

Thank you. The future is looking very promising and although not everyone agrees, I think FSG have done a fantastic job for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with you Suffolk Red. What is clear is that FSG have a master plan somewhere and they're following it diligently. Young kids are continuously being brought in and looked at, the first team is being replenished with talent and funds within the possible, and the stadium redevelopment is finally becoming concrete. Miles ahead of the haphazard management style of the previous regime.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm positive too Suffolk. The doom mongers are always after-timers. I wrote positive comments and predicted a top 3 finish last year because I believed we could get more than 2 pts per game and BR was improving us. The usual suspects said FSG were penny punchers and BRs signings were poor. We ended up 2nd. This year I think it'll be tough to get top 4 because LS is a difference maker, improvement doesn't always go in straight lines, opponents will perhaps improve more and we have Europe to factor in. For LFC it's the playing twice a week in CL that will affect our PL points per game total most. But losing LS isn't a choice. It's an inevitability for all the reasons stated in recent weeks. We must make sure the drop back in PL terms is minor and build towards a permanent place in the top 3. The fact that six or seven teams can all finish top 4 actually helps us this season I think. I think we will make or miss out on top 4 by 3 pts.

When a certain Kevin Keegan announced he was leaving, What were we going to do without him? what was Bob Paisley doing? we were doomed, how could he do it to the club. Then we bought a nobody from Celtic of all places, a certain Kenny Dalglish!, who is he we all said, the rest is history as the saying goes.
Rush left, and Aldridge steps in, Then a young Kid called Fowler turns up, then a certain Owen takes over.
Then along comes the Kid from Spain, a certain Mr Torres, he will be a legend, he is only 24 and will be here for years to come. Then he left and a certain Mr Suarez steps in.
As you can see No body is bigger than the club and we always move on to the next chapter.

As I said the day after suarez sank his teeth into another human being, the bloke knew exactly what he was doing and by doing that he forced LFC into a corner to sell him at a much reduced price hence 60 odd mill instead of our expected 80 plus mill.
Suarez is a great player but his morels as a human being are quite appalling and what comes around goes around.
As for replacing the bloke there's not many out there so we will have to trust the owners an BR to do the right thing.

Not if you add £1 Ken.

The Echo have been wrong on one too many occasions for me to trust anything they say.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well what I am reading over here is barca paying full amount of so called release clause, between 70 and 80 english pounds, all the major papers websites going with that but yesterday afternoon they were saying 60 million plus sanchez [ I would be delighted with that ] . I think the only ones that will know will be john henry ian ayre and barca counterparts. the press need to get hits and sell newspapers so don't get sucked in by the shi. talkers

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 09:09:30
Ed, I saw you mention our two priorities. Judging by our targets I assume that's a winger and a fullback? Is that correct?

Rodgers is clearly a fan of attacking football, Does it look like he will fix our defense this summer?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - correct. He is certainly trying to add a centre back as well.}

Hi Ed,

With the signings so far and possibly the three positions you mention being covered how optimistic do you feel for next season?

My feelings is if we do get better players than we have now in them 3 positions (which is obviously what we should be aiming for) then I think we would have a really strong team (especially if the winger was Sanchez).

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I would be extremely optimistic, I am even if we add no one to the squad. I am really looking forward to seeing us play next season.}

Moreno, Markovic and Lovren would do nicely please. There again, I've been wishing for my EuroMillions numbers to come up trumps for years and that hasn't happened yet.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 09:22:44
Not for the eds as it money related but just an observation.

If true Suarez will go for a "knock down" price of a mere £63m and not the £80 -£85m some of us were expecting due to his recent incident. However surely Barcas own looming transfer ban would or should have redressed the balance in valuation. Yes he's a little fecker but if you don't buy him now then your unlikely to be able to going forward? So the price remains the same.£80m

I understand in this instance Suarez has put us in this situation but we always appear to be left wanting when negotiating players in and out of our club.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The figures you quote are in the wrong currency exchange them into euros & you'll see the figures match up

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 10:16:25
No they aren't . €63 is less than £50m (less than David Luiz reported fee).

I expected Suarez actual value (bite aside) to be £80 (€100m) plus

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The demonstration of why we need to avoid discussing money continues.}

Keeping him may have cost us additional sponsership money or loss of sponsers / ability to attract new sponsors.

Also add the next incident being a possible 2 year ban - then I can understand why the fee is what it is.

Who knows he may never have a season like he did last season.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 10:54:31
I thought Ed002 had made it extremely clear on numerous occasions. Barca met the termination clause figure to buy Suarez. In that case there is nothing LFC could do about the transfer. €80m (£63m) seems like the right amount to me. It also doesn't take into account the additional costs like agent's fees and taxes.

Agree0 Disagree0

The joke is from that supposed £63m we still have to pay Suarez a loyalty fee. which is x% of the fee.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 11:45:21
Ed002 this is why I said not for the Eds!

My point is Suarez fee appears reduced due to his wrongdoing and ban however we don't seem to be fully utilising Barcas wrongdoing and upcoming ban.

Its a basic supply and demand rule in my opinion.

Leverage must work both ways and my observation is that I feel it always used against us in our transfer activity.

Hoola you make a very good point, thank you.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool are trying to rid themselves of a player who will be banned for two years next time he bites someone, and banned for life if he ever has another race-related incident. The expectations of the Liverpool fans were way beyond what was ever going to happen. I have made this clear repeatedly.}

05 Jul 2014 09:19:48
Morning Eds, what are your thoughts on Mexico's Miguel Layun as left back for LFC? Seems like a decent player and could easily fit into the style of play IMO.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I have no thoughts on the subject at all.}

05 Jul 2014 09:17:13
Ed001 that comment could have come STRAIGHT from Ed002's top draw! (Where I am told from a very reliable source she also keeps her frilly knicker's)

CLASSIC.

I'd take €40 M and Sanchez and if he did not want to come would try and slip Tello into the arangement.

Tello, IMO would thrive under BR and would, in time, become an Anfield great.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

05 Jul 2014 09:31:02
I would avoid Tello. Nothing special and we already have a better player than him coming through in Jordon Ibe.

It is 75 million Euros for Suarez and Sanchez is valued at 40 million Euros. So, if he is included, it will have to be Sanchez + 35 million Euros.

Agree0 Disagree0

Al this tello talk. the guy has played like 5 times for barca in 2 years. deleufeu is seen as a better talent, hence why they want to keep him there for next season. and he wasn't all that great . i'm sure barca would love to give us 60 mil and tello

After watching him in the world cup, would love to see
James Rodríguez in a Liverpool shirt.
He seems to have everything about his game.
Only snag is I think he would cost a fortune.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

A few other snags:
Why would he leave tax haven in Monaco?
If he was available the top European clubs Barca, Madrid and Munich would be in for him.
Man City/Chelsea/PSG would all outbid us.
We can't afford his wages.
He can literally pick his destination and there is absolutely no evidence he wants to come to LFC.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There is interest in him from elsewhere, not Liverpool.}

What a good player though. He seems an honest and hard working player too which is refreshing.

Whoever signs him will be very happy I'm sure.

Agree0 Disagree0

Some players that could be used in the Transfer of Suarez to Barcelona.

Alexis Sánchez
He can play anywhere in attack, although he prefers the right, and speed is his greatest weapon. He is amazing at breaking free of his marker, providing crosses and finding space in which to receive through balls and shoot on goal. He is an opportunistic player, and a proven goalscorer. He is extraordinarily fit and although he is essentially a striker, he is often seen putting pressure on the opposing defence and is aware of the importance of recovering any lost balls.

Ibrahim Afellay
Afellay is a wide player with many virtues including pace, dribbling ability and a directness that unsettles defenders. His crossing is also something that has impressed while his great technique means that he is also capable of playing in midfield.
He also is well known for his ability to shoot from distance and can take aim with both his right and left foot equally. In Holland he has already scored a number of spectacular goals.

Cristian Tello
Cristian Tello is a fast attacking player, who is capable of playing on either wing or straight down the middle. His ability to beat a man in a one-on-one situation makes him a tough player to stop and he has proved adept at scoring as well as setting up chances for his teammate.

Martín Montoya
At 1, 74 metres tall, Montoya is a very fast player, full of stamina and skilled at getting forward down the wing. He is also a strong and tireless defender and after more than a decade learning at the Club he as a perfect passing and crossing technique.

Alexandre Song
Strong in the air, quick and a tough tackler, Song is the perfect defensive midfielder. He is also extremely skilful and in renowned for his ability to provide assists. Being 185 cm, he is also a very useful asset at set pieces. In fact, in his early days, he more commonly played at centre back.

I would prefer Deulofeu over everyone on that list, with the exception of Sanchez but only if he wants to play for the club and is not a prima-donna.

If reports are true that we have agreed 63 million for Suarez then Ian Ayre should seriously consider his position. We hold all the aces of a 5 year contract. Barca should have been told £80 million (or buy out clause) or Luis stays where he is. I don't get all this 'we have to sell him because of the bite' stuff. So we have to get rid because he's a disgrace but it's ok for anyone else to have him. I don't think so! I'll be gutted to see him go as we can't get any better unless we sign Messi. If he goes on the cheap as well it will be unbearable.

You are right that you don't get it at all.

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe the Sponsors, management have had enough of his antics.
For the great player he is he is like a time bomb ready to go off.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why don't we all wait to see what actually transpires before calling for Aire's head. I am sure he will have done his best for the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with heighway patrol this is ridiculous suarez will be a big loss, we won't even get fourth place without him if we don't sign a very good replacement

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 08:48:21
I for one am finding this whole luis suarez saga extremely dodgy. So close to the title last year champions league this season and he looked as happy as a pig in excrement last season playing the football of his life. then the bite and all of a sudden he's leaving on the cheap.
Anyeay here's hoping fo another top season without the premier league's best player by a country mile. I'd love Reus or Rodriguez that would show real ambition but I realise it will never happen

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So he is going on the cheap, the figures I have seen are not cheap by the way. unless you own the club the fee has nothing to do with you. We as fans should do what we do best and support our club, let the owners do there job in bringing in the players BR wants. We as fans should support the players we bring in.
By the looks on here there are a lot of you that own the club, NOT. so grow up and stop worrying about fee's for players that has absolute nothing to do with you

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 08:42:21
I don't care what the fee was for Suarez. He was a fantastic player for us and we have made a huge profit on him. A couple of years ago we were on the brink of bankruptcy and a massive thank you to FSG for the work that they are doing. Forget all of these stellar names that people want and let's get realistic. The eds have constantly told us that we are losing 1 million per week. Fsg are trying to improve that position so do not expect us to compete with man city, Chelsea and even man united. We are nowhere near those clubs as regarding spending power. The London clubs will always have an advantage due to top players preferring London. I am happy with the way things are going and will continue to support any and every player who wears the red shirt and gives 100% for the team. I have seen so many superb players come and go over the years. Life without Suarez will continue to go on. Either support the club realistically or go somewhere else. We have not and never will be a one man team. I don't want us to overspend and I don't want us to be a rich mans toy. I am a proud Liverpool fan and if we win a trophy, we will win it as a team. That's what a Liverpool fan is. Part of a team. It would be nice to have a team of galacticos and win every game. It's nicer when you win with a team of players that no one rates. So from me, thank you mr Henry and co. keep up the good work. We have history and we will continue to make history the way Shanks wanted. Hard work, loyalty and working as a team, from the owners right the way down. Don't be disappointed if we don't go and spend loads of money on players who don't want to come. Let's support the ones we have and the ones who want to come.

First thing Ross Barkley not on return flight so he must be there for two weeks . Just tried to catch up and I've read
That Suarez will go to barca for £65 million and Sanchez not in the deal . If he is going I think bar a need to add at least
Another £25 million if no player coming in deal . I know you might have covered this but I've been away .

Hi Ed

Not posted for a while just waiting fot inevitable to happen with a certain Suarez. As I am an old git I remember as a little Kid when a certain Kevin Keegan announced he was leaving, What were we going to do without him? what was Bob Paisley doing? we were doomed, how could he do it to the club. Then we bought a nobody from Celtic of all places, a Kenny Dalglish!, who the **** is he we all said, the rest is history as the saying goes.
Rush left, Oh my god I said, and Aldridge steps in, Then a young Kid called Fowler turns up, who the **** is he, he is only 17 for ****s sake, G.O.D, then a certain Owen takes over.
Then along comes the Kid from Spain, he is the one I said, he loves the club, he will be a legend, he is only 24 and will be here for years to come I said, then, not again I said!
Then old big teeth steps in, scores in his first game but still I said I would rather the Kid from Spain and miss him and hopes he fails at Chelski. Then the cannibal racially abuses Evra, no I said, Evra is Lying old cannibal wouldn't say that, injustice I cry. Then the cannibal cries to leave, no it can't be true, it must be the papers I say. Then he bites Ivanisovic, that's strange I say why would he do that, no provercation, then I am reminded why he left Ajax. Was he vying for a move? surely not, he loves the club! Hey Champions League, I can't wait to play at Anfield the man says, I am surely staying at Liverpool now he says. Great I say let's watch the world cup and relax. OMG my missus says he has done it again! Then Barcelona are on the scene, and again I am reminded of the previous incidents, he has done it again for a move! surely not! Oh yes.
Liverpool are a club that breeds forwards so I am almost glad to see Suarez go, as Ed 2 says he hs dragged the name of the club down, for all the good he has done he has equally dragged the good name of the club down and had one of the most influential people at the club sacked in the process.

Lets move on and let him go and chuckle to ourselves when he once again wants a move from Barcelona and sinks his teeth into another forward.

I am sure the next striker we have will become a legend in his own right so support the club nor the player.

PS Ed002 was right all along and we were all just in denial, its a case of the emperors new clothes.

Absolutley loved reading this post, fantastic .

All those stellar names since Aldo and none of them have won any of the big trophies (premier league and Champions league)

We won the champions league with players like Sinama-Pongolle, Luis Garcia and Cisse up front.

It says to me it's not about replacing individuals, it's about improving the team.

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on Ken.

And don't forget LS would have missed a quarter of the PL season.

Sturridge has 35 goals in 49 games for Liverpool which is a better strike rate than LS.

Hi Ed002, I am going to take a shot at it. Your note broken up into 2 will follow with my questions which are in brackets. The numbers I have stated are in Euro currency.

{Ed002's Note - I can tell you that the figure you mention is half way between what Liverpool was asking (a termination clause)

(Would that be €50m?)

Your note continues.
(and what Barcelona were looking to pay. Subject to a little agreement on detail, there has been the basis of a conclusion to the whole ugly affair of Luis Suarez.}

(So Suarez in return for Sanchez who is valued at €40m by Barcelona plus another €10m cash = Deal possibly done otherwise if Sanchez refuses LFC then it will be €50m straight cash?)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - This is why we don't discuss finances.}

05 Jul 2014 09:19:15
Can we just agree that we will accept/have accepted 75 milllion Euros.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm pretty sure he said that 70 mill euros I think can't remember was the half way fee. I would guess that the echo and BBC figures would be decent. but one question ed in the case of a huge fee like this I assume it would be broken up into installments over a few years. would you know how many? And say we get 35 mill this year and next would they be put into two separate financial years or is the whole fee put into this year's?

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 08:26:04
So Suarez going for 59m at current exchange rates and sanchez would be 31m at the same rates. Plus all the other things on top that Ed002 points out. We've already agreed to pay 39m plus all those things again & have apparently bid 18m for lovren which would take us to 57m plus those things which would exceed the Suarez money. We have a few odd bods to sell & are losing 1m a week. I think 2 more signings maximum not including lovren. Bertrand & shaqiri probably being the two. Amateur maths & guess work + exchange rates using the eds figures

Believable0 Unbelievable0

80m euros for LS, Sanchez won't be part of any agreement. We've spent roughly what we wanted to in net spend (35-40m) so we have £63m plus sales (likely to be 20-30m). That's more than 2 more players. We have to get top players in while we have CL. There'll be at least four more signings, possibly five depending on a couple of possible departures.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2014 06:19:20
Ed002, any updates on the future of Alexis Sánchez? It sounds like he won't be part of the Suárez transaction, but have Liverpool made a separate bid for him?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - There is nothing new regarding Sanchez.}

05 Jul 2014 08:15:53
I know that he has wanted a transfer for a while but I cannot fault his commitment levels during last season as he always gave us 100%. Despite all of the controversies that he created he has also been a joy to watch on the ball and some of his goals have been amazing. However much the actual figure is that we receive for Luis Suarez it can not replace him with a footballer anywhere near his level but at the end of the day life moves on. I wish LS the best of luck with his career and thank him for his goals in a red shirt.
YNWA
Now that the Luis Suarez chapter in LFC history has more or less drawn to a close it is time to focus on wisely investing the money received on adding quality to our squad.

We need a world top class striker to replace shameful Luis Suarez. Realistically Eds.who do you think are the obvious candidates?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Sturridge.}

05 Jul 2014 09:09:42
Ed1 do you think Sturridge will become even better because I do. My only slight concern is injuries with him? Surely if we don't sign another striker when Suarez goes then Borini will still be with us next season?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I think Sturridge has a lot of improvement left in him yet, it is up to him to put the effort in and, so far at least, he has certainly worked hard at his game.
I expect Borini to be at the club, as things stand.}

Cracking reply Ed, love it.

Agree0 Disagree0

I mean, looking at the transfer market there isn't a suitable center forward available. The best bet is to look for Sturridge to play more games, with Borini also getting a chance. First team as it stands would likely be Sturridge w/ Lallana, Sterling and Henderson trailing, which is certainly a top four offense considering Gerrard will be there spreading the field. Personally, I would sell Suarez, bring in a few prospects that aren't going to cost that much short term to round out the side (Origi, Yedlin, Bertrand, etc) and add two big names in Lovren and hopefully Shaqiri or Sanchez. Job well done, and an improvement on last year's side in every position but GK and CF, which care still top class.

Maybe Sanchez doesn't want to come because he knows he can't live up to the expectation of a massive club and instead wants to opt for the safety of a smaller club where expectation are not so high

Hi Eds.
Just wondering where, if any, is the interest is in Skrtel and Agger.
Also for Ed001 where do you see Reina beginning next season in a Liverpool shirt or elsewhere? If he stays would you prefer to see him or Mignolet?
Jack!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Napoli are keen on either/or of them. I expect Reina to leave somewhere, his wages are just too high to sit on the bench. There is no contest these days, Pepe's head and heart are just not in it, he has gone from one of the best keepers in the world to an accident waiting to happen.}

Cheers Ed.
Do you feel there is the possibility of both being moved on and Illori being moved to the first team squad?
Disappointing as regards Reina but that is how he looked before he left. Never checked up on him at Napoli last year.
Thanks
Jack!

{Ed001's Note - both are available, but I doubt both will move on, though Ilori is likely to get his chance in preseason. Then it will be down to him.}

Edd001 for you neymar.or james Rodriguez? For me james is such a talent. Neymar has done very little for me to warrant the hype around him

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Rodriguez defo, Neymar is a show pony, loads of flicks and tricks and skill but absolutely no idea how or when to use them. I would hate to watch a player like that regularly, it would frustrate me to the point I couldn't watch. He will do a trick for the sake of it, when he has acres of space to just run forward into.}

Neymar is a modern Denilson
