I remember Sam Allardyce arriving at Newcastle in a helicopter.
Michael Owen arriving at Newcastle amongst a similar fanfare.
Both flopped.
Too much fanfare about Rodgers arriving.
Especially on this site.
I await November with interest.

Dosnt matter who does fsg bring 4 manager, they made the gread decition apointing. br, i hope he does well, but if not theyll go definetly for benitez if hes still aveliable, but if br floped, it will be wery but wery hard 4 benitez, to get us top 4 in the ssme season, remember everybody specialy top 4 teams, hav made new buys, and specialy chelsea, who had wery bad season in the league, so we beat them at bridge wif kenny twice, sorry its not goin 2 happen again, specialy wif br in charge, we need benitez, and fsg, will learne from the mistake, and will go after benitez, like they did wif kenny from hodgson, look this is bloody premier league and not italian serie a. wher juve came wuf antonio conte who never manage before and won the league unbeaten, man this is premier league, the best league of the world, even a team who finish 6th can win the champions league.

Man U fan ?? B {Ed016's Note - Well that was because Sam Allardyce is a crappy manager and Michael Owen lost it before he even got to Newcastle}

I agree completely with Ed016's comments. Fat Sam is a terrible manager and Michael Owen lost it in Spain. Two of the biggest whingers alive those pair, so the fanfare was just misplaced, rather than being too much.

Thanks for cleaning that post up for me eds, i really should try to be more tactful...

I have been let in on some inside information as to what is happening with regards to transfers at Liverpool. I worked with Brendan Rodgers at Swansea and I've been helping him out on his first few days at Liverpool. I must stay anonymous as I do not want to lose a good friend.

Brendan was told that Dalglish had enquires for Muniain, Martinez, Tello, Lennon, Walcott, Adam Johnson and Cavani rejected totally.

Discussions for Luuk de Jong were set to start, but Dalglish was sacked. We had been in talks with Ramirez and his agent. Jackson Martinez was just a ploy by his agent.

Sigurdsson has told Brendan that he would love to join him at Liverpool, but Brendan will be starting his transfer discussions in the coming days.

Also on his list are:

- Ibrahim Affelay
- Jordy Clasie
- Clint Dempsey
- Moussa Dembele
- Ryad Boudebouz
- Nuri Sahin
- Joe Allen
- Antoine Griezmann
- Pedro

You worked with Rodgers at Swansea yet you use the term 'we' relating you as either a fan of Liverpool or a current coach/staff; I think you are the first. Sorry but there are so many doubting words in your post for me to believe anything you have said. The main one is the over use of his first name which indicates you are trying to hard to let us the reader know how closely related you are to Brendan Rodgers. Another thing is how you have betrayed a so called friends trust with your post and willing to risk your friendship. However, it could just be me over thinking and analysing your comments. It is just in my nature as it is something I do on a daily basis. I do apologise if you are who you say you are.聽

James Mc

Must stay anonymous, so you are closely working with Rodgers and worked with him at Swansea, wouldn't take a genius to work out who you were then, think Rodgers won't be your friend anymore

Brilliant post mate (Jackanory) comes to mind. So you worked with Brendan at Swansea and now your helping him out at Anfield..lol.. Are you sure the police haven't got an arrest warrant out for you. Apparently Brendan Rogers has reported that he's being stalked.

Elmo96

Hey BR friend. now you have ruined everything for us. you see with you coming out with the whole truth, nothing but the truth, now the EDs have to close down the site, there will be no more rumours or banters to post. why oh why, you no name guy.

Now this original post DEFINITELY sounds like Daniel Hanwell!

Sounds like Dave Whelan is stirring the pot again...

Hmmm interesting that your mate Brendan doesn't know he can't buy Joe Allen but the rest of the world does. Why bother making this crap up?

Yes I do like certain ones, notably ED001 and ED002 ( what a girl ), but I like the honesty and brilliant comments from all of them equally

No favourites, they all do a grand job, but Down Red's right - cheers Ed001 for setting up the site originally.

001, 016 and 022 should all be close in the Ed Of The Year Awards 2012. I hear they will be laying on free beer at the awards ceremony for anyone who has posted more than 3times this year ;)

Rodgers will be a failure at Liverpool. Even though he is probably an excellent coach.

What a Troll comment!

Ok mystic meg

What a tool comment!

As Brendan says ' there are three types of supporters, (1) ones who blindly follow the club (2) ones who are positive and need to be convinced regularly, and (3) some who are just born as whingers and can never be satisfied'

I think he missed the fourth type....the one celled trolls..... poor little sad people

I have tips for people betting for euro 12

in 2004 greece won it and now they're in a financial crisis

in 2008 spain won it and now they're too in a financial crisis

so my bet would be to bet on either portugal or italy people since they are in the most trouble financially

your welcome people

{Ed006's Note - NOT THE VIEWS OF THIS SITE}

Or England or Ireland..

England should have won it ages ago then by that reckoning...

Slow poke

You forgot ireland , Ireland will totally win euro 2012

By that theory, we're in with a great shot. My source (myself) can confirm that Ireland is indeed f**ked and seems to getting worse with every day. Come on you boys in green!

-Shane.

I was tempted to say, 'guarnteed money in the bank,' ... but sure wasn't that the problem in the first place!

-Shane.

Hon the boys in green! One of the worst, if not the worst midfiels in Europe and we still make Euro 2012!

Just a thought would Adam Johnson be a good buy? For starters hes better than Downing and also Maxi is probably heading for the exit to I think he could be a decent player at LFC. Also he doesn't get regular football at city.

He might not get regular football, but he gets regular wages, this seems to be all he wants at this stage.

In: Luuk De Jong 12 m Out:Downing12m
Sigiriussion 7m Adam 6 m
Ramirez 16m Kuyt 2m
total 35 m Henderson 10m
Joe Cole 3m
Total 33 m
Reina
Johnson Enrique
Skrtel Agger
Lucas

Gerrard Sigruddson

Ramirez Suarez

De Jong

3 signings all realistic that can make us a top 4 team
And then if we manage to sell it wont cost much.

So sell half the team and buy 3 players, then we make top 4?....

05 Jun 2012 22:39:49
Hi all

Just to let you all know you can cross Mauricio Isla off the wish list (sorry about spelling) as a replacement for Glen Johnson should he leave. Isla is close to signing for Juventus in a double swoop including Asomoah for combined £18m.

Liverpool to slow again - if we were interested that is. (Before everyone bites my head off).

Hope we end up with at least a couple of decent players come the new season as having Cole and Aquilani back doesn't count as much.

LFC82

I never believe the Juventus for anyone rumours because they have no money? {Ed022's Note - They do have money to spend, but ironically they don't have money.}

Angelli son has taken the club under his control.he ownes fiat ferrari ect ect ect.money is not the issue.juve always build there teams like we are trying to do

05 Jun 2012 22:36:29
I have read with interest all the rumours and banter on this site and truly think the eds do a fantastic job. Aided at times by the inside knowledge of macca. I have not posted before but just wanted to say this - we are at a crossroads just like we were before when shanks sold the vision to some very big names at the time to move the club from the old second division to the first. It is now the turn of brendon rogers to fill the very large boots of all whom have made Liverpool great. To sell the vision he has for the football club and us the fans to the players who can get us to the premiership summit. I believe we have chosen the right man, with the right footballing beliefs and i am ready to stand behind him and lead us to that goal. The more who do Will make anfield the fortress it once was and get there as soon as we can. This is a long journey so please stop shouting are we nearly there yet?

05 Jun 2012 22:35:32
Gotta say I hope I'm not the only one in thinking this but I hope to god we never ever see Joe Cole or Alberto Aquillani pull on are sacred jersey again.. 2 total money grabbing hungerless mercenaries who have bled are club dry for years.. Come on brothers surely there nof the answer!!

A liverbird upon my chest

Offer both of them plus a couple of quid to Fiorentina for Juan Manuel Vargas.
He would be a good addition, energetic up and down the left from a left back position. Good going forward, scores goals from left back aswell. Vargas and Enrique fighting for that place down the left, thats what we need with a couple of clever additions, competition for places.

A Liverbird on your chest - but something strange up another part of your body - the 2 most naturally gifted players we've had on our books for years - and both talents wasted by not being given a run in the side. We give no hopers like Spearing a run of games, but pay 35m for Carroll and don't give him 3 games on the trot to build confidence. Let's hope Rodgers doesn't do the same.

Because Spearing wants to be there, sometimes having a less talented player at 100% is better than having a talented player at 15% and whinging!

Red7.

Well said that man !! B

hi eds, heard a lot of talk about this boudabouz, is he not just another ryan babel? not seen much of him but thats just a feeling i have, correct me if he's just another class. cheers, mike {Ed022's Note - www.player-profiles.co.uk - there is a profile on Boudebouz.}

Boudabouz is nothing like Ryan Babel, try and ignore the first name you ****

Moot {Ed006's Note - Ryad and Ryan?}

George, Susan? same same...

Ryad plays as a right mid and is also used in right wing and attacking mid, nothing like babel

05 Jun 2012 22:32:51
Any news on Coady Eds ?
I think he could and should shadow Gerrard this season, then make that position his own ?
Is he still to young though

Also with regards to, Morgan, Suso, Sterling and wisdom can you see them making any sudden apperances ?

Cheers

LTP {Ed022's Note - Hopefully.}

I think sama would get in the team ahead of wisdom at CB, but wisdom might make his debut ahead of sama in another position.

05 Jun 2012 22:30:34
Please can any of eds info on this Czech Republic under 21 player name Chramosta.what position does he plays?which clubs are interested in him. {Ed022's Note - Not a clue.}

05 Jun 2012 22:30:17
Hi eds, sorry to be boring you to death with discussions about Gylfi Sigurdsson, but would he be classed as home grown? Due to his Reading days?

Cheers, Red89 {Ed022's Note - No, I don't think so.}

Yes he will as he spent 4-5 years at reading before he was 21..

- Home-grown players do not have to be English; home-grown players are defined as those who "irrespective of nationality or age, have been affiliated to the FA or Welsh FA for a period of three seasons or 36 months prior to 21st birthday"

05 Jun 2012 22:28:30
Bergkamp for Swansea may interest siggurdson into sticking with Swansea....

Why?

Tom.

05 Jun 2012 22:26:24
Thoughts on Soldado and us signing him? Also, what valuation would you suggest? {Ed022's Note - He is a possibility.}

05 Jun 2012 22:26:16
Hi eds I may be missing something but I feel we re not losing anything in attempting to sign javi Martinez muniain ect we may have no chance but if we did pull it off it would be great what are your opinions keep up the good work {Ed022's Note - We'd lose a hell of a lot of money, that's for sure.}

We'd SPEND a lot of money on Martinez. Definately not lose it...

Red7.

You never lose a transfer fee you lose wages you can always move the player on

Wouldn't be so sure mate, ask Chelsea if they think they'll get 50m for Torres...

05 Jun 2012 22:19:03
BTW, wouldn't a "Most Stupid Posts" be a great new collumn on this website? Would sure amuse amuse some people, and make the poster of these stupid posts feel stupid? Just a thought :) {Ed022's Note - I'll suggest it.}

Hasn't Daniel Hanwell been punished enough though?

Thought we already had this with dodgy rumours

05 Jun 2012 22:04:39
The players we need to sign who are very much so possible and in our price range in my opinion is the players below hopefully if my post passes the review i can get a reply from one of the 'Eds'

Soldado
Sigurdsson
Affellay
Krasic
Vargas

Now there is Soldado who is in my eyes a realistic target along with sigurdsson , krasic & vargas.

The one we will struggle to sign is ofcourse Affellay as he is performing for the netherlands and that will attract people from all over europe.

And finally good news is the friendship between Rodgers & Muriniho.
There friendship could lead in a loan of a player or two i.e Kaka who has not been playing this season & possibly which is possible is Granero a promising young player who fits in with Rodgers playing style which is a bonus.

I hope this gets threw as ive tried so many times & thanks for keeping us updated on all transfer talk and just how our club is going on in general.

Krasic is Poooooooooooooooooo!

He may not be the best but we dont have much options when it comes to the player who are available due to the fact were not what we used to be but lets hope this year is our year!

05 Jun 2012 22:02:42
Hey eds I've always liked Adam Johnson as a player and I know there were rumours linking him with us last season but. Ow be has come out and said he is not happy with the amount of football he gets at man city and is dissapointed to not be part of Roy's plans for england, Do you see him as a player of interest for LFC this transfer window as we have let Kuyt go and maxi is another probally on the way out amongst others who have dissapointed last Season. Thanks YNWA. {Ed022's Note - There is a chance, but a slim one at that.}

05 Jun 2012 21:30:21
Hi eds

Is there anything in the rumours about the Qatari investment in club shares {Ed022's Note - Not that I know of.}

05 Jun 2012 22:12:52
Hey y'all. Just here for the annual mention of Arda Turan, regardless of how improbable it is. ;)

He's an LFC fan, don't you know?

Don't tell me someone beat me to it already!

He was mentioned the other day so you are late

What about Aguero? ;)

Which one Kun or Ken?

05 Jun 2012 22:02:54
If Gylfi Sigurdsson was in the Icelandic under 21's, then you'd have to wonder who they have in their senior Icelandic squad.

I think Liverpool would be a great destination for Sigurdsson and i think Rodgers needs to have at least one recent familiar face among the players.

Joe Cole might come out of the cold, but personally i think he should move on, and it's totally a financial decision, £90k a week, when Suarez is on £80k a week.

05 Jun 2012 22:02:12
I must say, that I find the lack of 'tolerance' for other LFC's opinions somewhat disturbing at times.
We are all entitled to our views and opinions, and have the right to express these as we see fit, and deem appropriate.
Yet if your opinion 'differs' from that of the group psyche, posters are criticised and their 'support' of the club is questioned.
I do find this 'narrow mindedness' all a bit embarassing at times.

Come on LFC fans allow others their views and opinions.

Depends whether they are idiotic ideas or not, i dont care about the general consensus of who we should buy or what ideas people have just that they be well thought out and backed up with reasons why

for example adam johnson everyone seems want him, i think he has no brain, beats his man but never lifts hi head to pick out a teammate, hence i dont want him at anfield. if he does join and is brilliant then great i ll be happ to be proven wrong but i dotn think so, he s not good enough for city cos he s not intellient enough, he shouldnt be good enough for us because he scores the odd solo goal, he s also too greedy i.m.o

Your wrong and your opinion counts for nothing. You couldn't be more wrong even if you were the sheriff of wrongsville on the planet wrongolia

Any chance you can make a Euro 2012 forum for us die hard fans to argue with each other about who will win.and make polls for top scorer. My predictions Winner England(mandatory as an England fan)
Top goal scorer- Torres (Torres as focal point of attack with supply from Alonso, sounds just like liverpool when he scored for fun)
Best young player- ox
Player of tournament-Gerrard
Yes I am bias as Liverpool/England fanatic. {Ed001's Note - it is on the main football-rumours site.}

I predict none of your predictions will be correct

Chris in Tamworth

I think Germany will win it. Gomez to be top goal scorer. Lewandoski as an outside bet to be top goalscorer @ 25-1.

That's who I'll be betting on tomorrow.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Czech Republic winger Vaclav Pilar ive been told he has alot of potential and is 1 to watch at the euros do you know anything about this lad EDDS?? {Ed001's Note - not a thing sorry.}

Can you do a profile on him ta {Ed022's Note - I'm the one that does profiles mate, and you have to post requests over on the site.}

Hi edds who is this player this chap is on about and can u do a profile on him?? {Ed022's Note - Post the request on www.player-profiles.co.uk and it will be logged for you.}

Its not like he could say ha you had your chance now keny you should f*** off, he wants the fans onside ffs

Yes but he didn't need to bring him up at all, the fact he did and said the door is always open is an act of class.

Glad to see the positive response in the new away kit, and also very happy to see where the inspiration has come from, with some posters quoting "we will look like a team of Batmen!".

But there is only one Batman. And it was that Batman who helped design the kits, so thank you very much Reds.

Batman

P.S. If Robin is on the site tell him to get a f**king move on, getting bloody annihilated out here AND it's raining.

also any chance on Mertens, Dembele?
hope 1 of these 2 will come..

btw Mertens is a BEAST! in 32 games for PSV: 21 goals and 16 assists! c'mon Rodgers! :DD

05 Jun 2012 21:23:54
Why is everyone creaming about sigurdsson. He is hardly world class.

Joe Allan is better.

Henderson, Lucas, both better. He is on the par with Charlie Adam

Better at 5 yard passes and setting tempo from deep - YES.

Better at finding space in final 3rd, scoring goals from inside box, long distance, free kicks and penalties - NO.

Sigurdsson is a very clever player, technically superb and only 22. Could easily be the man to supply the 10-15 goals from midfield that Gerrard can no longer do..

Stone YNWA.

When I say "supply" - I mean score :)

Stone YNWA.

Say score then...

Sigurdsson is far far better than Joe Allen.

05 Jun 2012 21:19:38
Eds whats the story with bellamy is he out of contract or has he a year to go and do you see him being part of BR plans for this season also do you think we will show any interest in rhodes is he even good enough for prem league? {Ed001's Note - he has another year left on his contract, I expect him to stay and play as much as he is able to. I very much doubt there will be any interest in Rhodes, his play off the ball is poor, he is a goalscorer but offers nothing to a team playing possession football. If he isn't scoring, he is a passenger.}

05 Jun 2012 21:10:55
I would just like to say, do you all deluded fans honestly believe that rodgers will get us playing like barca in the first game of the season? No, it will not happen sorry. I have total faith in Rodgers, and believe he will bring back glory days, and victory will taste a lot better after a long wait! So can all you fans stop saying "he will fit into rodgers style" about every single player because IMHO rodgers will want to build a strong team not to get relegated instead of playing his way with the wrong players. It will take time before we will be playing absolute football, but it will come! YNWA Brendan Rodgers. PS: Great job eds, and Macca for who I a have a lot of respect for.

No need to be rude mate.

Square tomato

I agree to an extent, but he'll be buying players that fit into his style, that's for sure. Swans played his style last season and they're finished pretty close to us on the table, we have a pre-season too, yes it will take years to implement, but he'll start straight away, otherwise we go a year without learning it, then try again next year. Which will obviously be the same again won't it?

If Siggurdson is really MUfc fan, do you think he can be long term with us?.. cuz' if not.. I'd rather not see him, thats my opinion (if a player isnt dedecated to Liverpool with all his heart, I do not think thats good for us and him)

pls reply, how u see this situation {Ed002's Note - Who a player supports is irrelevant.}

Carragher was an everton fan as a kid and look how he turned out. Reiterating what Was said it is irrelevant.

Kind regards

The southern red

Wasn't Ole Gunner ( can spell the last bit) a Liverpool fan? {Ed001's Note - Solskjaer, yes he was.}

What's the problem - I am in ITK ( well everybody else seems to think they are ), and I understand Gary Neville is a massive Liverpool fan - he's just scared to admit it in public.

John B

If that was the case carra would be at everton .... so get a grip on reality fella

Solskjaer, used to be an LFC fan. It didn't seem to let that bother him, when he was at Man.U.

Judging by all the LFC memorabilia he had built into his house I know Neville is a closet Liverpool fan.

For those amongst us who keep getting it wrong, it's quite simple.

His first name is neither Brandon or Brendon, and his surname is not Rogers. At least try and make an attempt to spell our managers name correctly, if you support LFC.

Brendan Rodgers, is it so hard to get right?

Irish Red Fan

Same thing when reina or skrtel name people get wrong. ffs its on their jerseys every game! JLFC

You are right and everyone should attempt to get it right but I think you'll find that the correct grammar would be "neither Brandon NOR Brendon"

I heard Brendon Rogers is looking to sign Ken Aguero for a combined fee of 50m, could be an exciting summer Reds.

I am far from the "must" grumpy Irish fan (See what I did there? I mocked your inability to spell). Do you have any idea of what the word banter means? If you did you would see the post and the replies make the post quite valid. I will check back later to see what witty retort you manage. What about the youngsters? Will we see some of them taking the step into first-team football?

I hope Suso, Sterling and Coady get some game time next year as I think they're ready to make the step up.

But what I really hope is that the youngsters get used in the Europa and Carling Cup. We need to concentrate on the League and FA Cup, and the youngsters will really benefit from the experience of really competitive football.

Hi all, I've only ever seen sigurdsson against us. Could anyone tell me what sort of player he is or is there any players he's similar too?
Thanks

Not as much vision as gerrard but the movement and shot is their for me. hed never be a gerrard obviously but boy does this player have an amazing future ahead in a tiki taka system whether thatd be with us bilabao barca etc aslong as he has the drive he will do well.

i think brendan rodgers was the better choice than roberto martinez seen as he is fluent in english and spanish whereas martinez isn't

Martinez is fluent in both languages

HUH are you that dull?
or joking?

Roberto martinez is spanish, i think he might be fluent...

Martinez is, he is spanish himself

Eds any news on rogers ideas because i would say we need a right winger, center mid(box to box) another cb and a forward.

any ideas on where he will play Cole and if aqua will stay or not

{Ed002's Note - No, he has only just started and will need to assess the squad.}

Ed, do you know why Hoffenheim sent Gylfi Sigurdsson out on loan last season and are looking to sell him? {Ed022's Note - It just didn't work out in Germany, and he was unhappy there.}

Interestingly though, Sigurdsson did win the Hoeffenheim fans' player of the season in 10/11, despite only starting about half the games. Then for some reason he just never featured in the first part of the 11/12 season before he went to Swansea.

DP

From what I've read, it seems he fell foul of being at a club with a lot of managerial changes at Hoffenheim (4 in 2 years) which disrupted not so much his form as his playing time - he was never quite sure where he stood in each new manager's plans.

Despite impressing whenever given the chance - under the last manager he worked with at Hoffenheim, Siggy was left out for 'tactical reasons' - despite being a firm fans favourite (he was voted fans player of the year in 10-11 season, despite not starting regularly)

Hoffenheim's form suffered in his absence apparently - some coaches are just damn stubborn I guess!

They (Hoffenheim) had always planned to sell him - and are likely pleasantly surprised at the amount of money they can now expect to get for him. (although they may be a little embarrassed perhaps, on how they misused/misjudged such a talented young player)

It is doubtful that he would return to Hoffenheim due to his frustrations with his past experiences there.

He was enjoying his football at Swansea - and a move to Liverpool to be reunited with Rodgers, who he worked with at both Reading and Swansea - and who seems to get the best from him, would be very attractive.

Rodgers' clever use of the media has made him (Siggy) aware that BR wants him - that Swansea have gone a little quiet on the transfer, which they were moving swiftly to complete - suggests that it has hit a hitch of some sort.

Sigurdsson would (imo) be a fine signing - and (again, imo) is the most realistic/likely to happen transfer mentioned in the media atm.

I hope that info is of some use. Have a good day.

Me too, has some qualities of a young Gerrard. Some drive, stamina and one hell of a rocket on him (with both feet I think). I was disappointed when I saw the Swans had agreed a deal, but delighted if BR could persuade him round.

Anyone think it'll spell the end of Adam, or Shelvey may go on loan?

I see the midfield being

Lucas
??

Gerrard - Sigurdsson
Shelvey - Henderson

That to me highlights the need for a defensive midfielder, as Spearin doesn't cut it.

We then have a shortage up front with Downing, Bellamy and Suarez for te wide spots and Carroll for the lead role. We need a starting right sided player and back up to Carroll. Hopefully Sterling will be a back up with Downing if Bellamy is injured.

We've got potentially plenty of games next season so enough to keep Downing, Bellamy, Shelvey and others happy.

Papa G

That was mean't to be a reply about Sigurdsson, not a new post.

Sky sports news are reporting that br wants to give joe cole another season to resurect his liverpool career! Tbh im glad as you cant judge someone to be a failure if they've only had 1 season to prove themselves! Ramirez of chelski proves my point perfectly! In his first season it looked like he didnt have enough strength to keep himself up when he sneezed but now hes one of the hottest properties in european football! Good on br for this potential masterstroke! Woohoo let the goodtimes roll
A.K

I want him to succeed but he is no stranger to the prem and his knees are weak

05 Jun 2012 20:36:06
{Ed022's note - Brand new player profile on Andre Schurrle of Bayer Leverkusen. Certainly a player to watch our for at Euro 2012, and has been linked with Liverpool prior to Rodgers' appointment. Cheers all.}

05 Jun 2012 20:28:26
hey eds just wondering what your opinion on sigurdsson is seeing as its looking more and more likesly he will be a pool player. do you think he has what it takes to be a first team regular ? Also didnt watch alot of swansea last season does br rotate the squad alot of does he tend to stick to the same 11 every game. I believe we need to start doing this if we are to get any consistency next season . {Ed005's Note - I think he would go straight into our first-team mate. Quality player and I'll be really happy if we get him.}

Good technique and poke on him, does drift out of games though. Then again used to think that about Maradona

05 Jun 2012 20:31:49
I believe we will pursue saldado,fall back lukk de jong, bouradoex(spelling is shocking), gylfi Sig and outside shout for matty Phillips. KK was interested in the player and the scouts have seen him on numeruos occasions,will depend on whether BR rates him. The kid has huge potential so do no ne downhearted if we do sign him. Also I believe we will replace GJ if he is to leave with van Der weil'. Things can change in football and the transfer market but these names could well be playing in a lfc shirt next season.

ed in your personal opinion do you think we wil sign gylfi sigurdsson and also if we do , do you think it will be during the euro's?

thanks zz {Ed005's Note - I think we'll get him and I think it will be during the Euros mate. Excited about the prospect of getting him - I think he's a quality player.}

Why so long ed, surely if we agreed a deal, he would sign straight away. Will we have to wait until Swansea get a new manager. Can we not just jump in there quickly?

Thanks

Burnsy {Ed005's Note - Deals take time mate, be patient and I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.}

Do you really think he can be as good as a young Frank Lampard without the attitude lol?

05 Jun 2012 19:55:58
We know there is definite interest in Siggurdson

Which leads me onto my question EDs and others.

Because the manager and DoF have changed do you think as fans we will hear more rumours about players joining and leaving? like what i mean is under KD and DC we were offered no information on players signing through Dalglish's interviews etc.

Therefore i am wondering do you think we will know more under Rodgers, or is it more to do with FSG and the board that alot of the clubs work is done behind closed doors?

I hope i've phrased this question correctly thanks... {Ed005's Note - No mate - we will do things discreetly.}

No, you're wrong Ed005. Rodgers, I mean Brendon, has been texting me all day about possible targets.
He asked me not to tell Dave Whelan, though.
Rigsby. {Ed005's Note - LOL.}

I have two low level contacts with the club (not players or playing staff). The club leaked like a sieve during Rafa's time. That reduced a bit under Hodgson and since Dalglish the leaks are well and truly dried up. Major decisions are made either in the US or in conference suites in hotels around this country . The ordinary staff now very little about what is going on these days. RED LENIN

So far, based on his (Rodgers) comments on 'Siggy' (as he will become known, I'm coining it.) - BR may be more open regarding discussing transfer targets with the media.

Nice to have a little info at times.

Sigurdsson would be an exciting first signing. His goalscoring record is consistently excellent for a midfielder - and Rodgers seems to get the best from him.

He could be the long-term successor to Stevie. He's only 22.

As an aside - Would he be considered a 'home-grown' player due to his time at Reading? Anyone? If true, that's another small plus to him joining.

I've liked his open approach so far - discussing Cole, Aqua, Siggy etc - his interviews on talksport etc kept me informed and happy - it's good to get a little insight on his tactics & philosophies on the game - it's also reassuring have an idea of the type of changes he will be making - so we can understand what to expect in the coming months - and to be kept in the loop somewhat.

He manages expectations very well.

He has asked for our patience from the outset, whilst at the same time stirring our optimism, by relaying to us his vision of building a side that plays quality football - a side that can get back to competing at the top.

He seems very media friendly, and in a genuine way. He always seems polite and in no rush to escape press obligations - he seems to actually enjoy talking football with the media.

A refreshing change so far.

Long may it continue.

Maybe next season the press will pick another club to use as a punching-bag!

hi eds, just a quick q, do u think raheem sterling will get more game time in the europa league next season? love to see him get more first team football!

{Ed006's Note - I would like to think so.}

05 Jun 2012 19:38:54
Just a thought if kuyt left, Bellamy and suarez are going to the olympics and carroll is at the Euros who do you reckon will play those early season games early august for us up front? I means we will surely buy a striker but what if he also played at the Euros too...

{Ed006's Note - Kuyt has left...}

Well lots of clubs will have those problems but in most cases they will be well enough rested

05 Jun 2012 19:22:58
Only silva, mata, bale and nani had more goals and assist from midfield so Walcott can't be that bad. I will take home over any of our so called wingers.

Assists were never going to be a problem when RVP was in the form we saw last season, give him the ball and he scores. Simple. {Ed016's Note - "Put the ball in the back of the net, we'll discuss where you place it later." RVP was outstanding last season. I hope he doesn't go to City, I feel Arsenal fans deserve a little something}

Rated Ayre with commercial deals, overall income increase and being a scouser etc. Enjoyed him ripping JJB Whelan, until he made that comment about him being a bigger joke than John Bishop. Unprofessional, what now if we wanted to buy a player off them?. Buzz off Bish though.

Name a Wigan player that you would like us to buy...

None at the minute mate, say if was A Valencia couple of years ago, JJB would now tell us to do one. Basically that bit of the statement achieved nothing imo.

JAMES MCCARTHY! Better than Hendo or Adam or Spearing or Shelvey.

Shelvey is a wonderful footballer and its there for everyone to see.

I wouldnt wanna see any wigan player in our shirt and ayre had every right to say what he did he tried making our great club look like a joke whelan should look at his own team and he might see who the joke really is

Luuk De Jong or Roberto Soldado?

Soldado! but i would be happy with De Jong but i would love both!!!
Josh

De Jong. No, Soldado. Wait, De Jong! No, Soldado! .. Oh I don't know.

Although considering we are being linked with top quality strikers I fear for Andy Carroll's LFC future. He's one that needs to be playing week in/out and he can't do that if we're going to sign De Jong or Soldado...

Any thoughts on Carroll Ed(s)?

sell:
maxi, aurelio,
loan out:
spearing, shelvey
keep:
cole, aqulani
give chance:
sterling
buy:
adam johnson, sigurdsson, dempsey, aly cissokho

Liverpool Squad
GK= Reina, Doni, Jones
CB= carragher,agger,skrtel,coates
RB/LB = glen johnson,kelly,enrique,cisshoko
CM= Gerrard,adam,aquilani,lucas,sigurdsson,
Winger= downing,adam johnson,bellamy,henderson,sterling
Striker= Suarez,Carroll,Dempsey,Cole

I think Liverpool will be a Good enough to fight for top 4 place if they can look in this new squad. :) just share my opinion.

{Ed006's Note - Joe Cole has never been a striker.}

So how much do you think we'll get for Aurelio, and do you think Gremio will feel about it?

Redjinal

I'd rather keep Shelvey and put Aquilani in the bin to be honest.
I doubt Adam will be there next season.
Cole is just not fit enough for the Prem anymore and like Ed said, not a striker anyway.
A bit more quality needed in the final 3rd.

Opinions on selling either Agger or Skrtel and getting in a quicker more technical CB?

{Ed006's Note - Skrtel and Agger are for me the best CB partnership in the league, would be a fools plan to sell either.}

Er, there aren't many better than them.

McSnuggles

Better technically than Agger? you on crack! name someone we could realistically sign who is better technically than Agger? or Skrtel!

Cheers
Daryll

One of the stupidest posts I've ever seen.. There has been a lot as well

Aye i wouldn't swap them for any other cb partnership.
derryred

They are a balanced pair. Agger the silky skills ball-player and Skrtle the muscle.

Sell Skrtl, great season don't get me wrong. However does get bullied and out-thought by better forwards. Sell for 15m plus if there's a buyer.

Mind bogglingly stupid.

BJH YNWA (Spot on Daryll)

If dagger can stay fit he could easily be the best defender in the world, give skytel another year and by then Coates I think will surpass him as a better and more technical defender. We have wisdom and Kelly maturing too. I think even talking about Improving on the partnership by spending money, that could go else where, is ridiculous

05 Jun 2012 19:15:01
How likely is it Carroll will still be here next season? Reports suggest he doesnt fit the style of play Rodger's wants.

{Ed006's Note - What reports are they? He will be here next season, and the next season.}

Ed006 to say he will be next season and the 1 after might be wishful thinking don't you think? considering you are not the manager or owners of liverpool.RedTurk

{Ed006's Note - I dont think it is wishful thinking really. The only way I can see him leaving is if when he starts banging in the goals next season a bigger club comes in for him. He is going to be one of our best next season mate}

I agree with Ed006 Carroll will be a monster next season look what he did to John Terry near the end of the season and he is regarded as one of the best CB's in the league.
Skurks

Ed006, I love that answer. I'm just about to start a 12 hour night shift and was a bit gloomy but seeing that really cheered me up.

It's refreshing to see such optimism for a change.

I agree with my whole heart :)

Tristan

A bigger club?what?

If carroll is going to be one of our best , we will have another difficult season, get real.

I hope you're right Ed006, not because I'll go mad if he isn't, but purely for the amazing satisfaction to see him playing up to his potential. I've always backed him and will be great to see him continue his form from the end of this season. Also would be great to shut up his critics (My Brother and Dad)!!!

Thanks, Ell.

Carroll is young, carried the weight of a huge transfer fee. You saw flashes of him towards the end of the season - he started to look sharp, put tackles in, passed and moved, good link-up play. He will be dynamite next season. RED LENIN

also i think we should sign defoe and adam johnson.

What about David Villa? He was a big talk few months ago.

The chance we creat and miss last year if 25% of that become a goal then we are sure in CL this year. so Player like David Villa always welcome he is a perfect finisher.

05 Jun 2012 18:54:22
ED i read on a post further down that you said Seb Larsson isnt good enough and offers nothing, have you seen his crossing & free kicks plus im 100% sure he'd offer more than Downing. {Ed001's Note - he is a right winger, not left, so what has that got to do with anything?}

The fact that kuyt has left and maxi looks set to leave mean we need a rw and larsson also offers more than downing dont matter what side he plays on we just need someone to provide for carroll

I doubt Liverpool are going to be pumping long balls and crosses into the box very often next season.

Aqualani is too lazy for Tiki Taka footy!

Not when we're in possession, but there's no way you'll find Aquilani rushing to close down spaces to win the ball back. As Rodgers said; "Everybody wants to play like Barcelona, but not everybody wants to work like them".

I'm a neutral in terms of EPL teams an was wondering whether, even though it ended bitterly, Liverpool fans consider Fernando Torres a club legend?

Not a club legend , legends stay at clubs when the going gets tough , acheive league,cup,european winnier medals , legends create history.

All that being said theres no doubt that he is a fantastic player and he gave us alot of fantastic memories with his fantastic goal scoring ability.

Am also happy that he's managed to get a few winner medals after all the work he done for us.

Tom.

No. He did no where near enough to deserve being called that.
Rigsby.

Mate a legend is a player, manager, employee who shows integrity, work ethic, honesty to the club, fans, colleagues. Showed none of them. So no he is not a legend. World class goalscorer in his pomp.

I see him more as a bell end if that clears anything up

05 Jun 2012 17:41:37
What do you think about the talk of Joe Cole staying ed? IMO I would rather see him go...

Zero {Ed022's Note - His wages are simply too high. If he wants to 'put things right' and fight for the club, then he should stop holding them for bloody ransom with the money the club owe him etc. I would rather see him move on also.}

Where's the 'agree with Ed' button?

05 Jun 2012 17:33:50
Aquaman will definately be moved on, most probably back to Serie A whilst Cole will stay on for at least another 12 months at Anfield. Rodgers is apparently a huge fan of Cole and believes he could play a large role for LFC now that the football will be further up the pitch and more focused on pass and move. Potential signings are being reviewed right now with a possible winger being approached next week (have no clue who though). Strong family source.

hi eds with everyone talkin bout selling carroll i was just wondering your opinion on the matter? id personally love carroll to stay he proved he can rip defences apart and has finally settled down ready to prove his worth, he also has time on his side to vastly improve which he will under rogers {Ed022's Note - Carroll worked very hard at the end of last season, and if he continues to work hard I have no issue with him staying.}

05 Jun 2012 16:56:07
are we likely to sign joe allen, sigurdson, adam johnson, soldado and boudebouz how high is our interest in each of these players ED? i think these are the players we need to become that top 4 team we used to be. {Ed022's Note - I am getting rather fed up of answer questions regarding Swansea players. THERE IS NO CHANCE. Thank you. Anyway, Sigurdsson is a definite possibility, Adam Johnson is unlikely, and Soldado is possible. Boudebouz is also possible. I feel that it will depend upon Rodgers with regards to 'how interested we are.'}

Ed you say there is no chance but i swear rodgers said that there is a 12 month transfer embargo unless it suits both clubs, infact im positive as i just went on the liverpool website and listened to it. could you please clear this up? ta {Ed005's Note - If this 12 month embargo is not on a contract or on paper then it can be broken, simple as that in my eyes. Hodgson had a similar agreement with Fulham before he came and we ended up signing a Fulham player. I'm sure if Allen handed in a transfer request and Rodgers was interested he would go for him - either way he will leave if he does hand in a TR.}

I can't see Joe Allen handing in a transfer request he has been at Swansea since a young age and respects them for giving him a chance as he was small and nimble as a child.
Skurks

Why do we want him anyway

Don't get the fuss Henderson is an will be way better than Allen.

You obviously have'nt seen him play.he has the highest pass rate in the PL, and we need that type of plagoingyer if we are to play Brendons way

Yeah but he can't tackle and his passes where going backwards nothing amazing in my eyes.

05 Jun 2012 15:58:19
Eds I'm interested in your opinion.
Which players already at liverpool, do you think fit in Brendan Rodgers' system/ style of play?
And why?
And also what players (typ of player) and how many do we still need to make the system ("tiki-taka") working?

Cheers

Phil {Ed022's Note - I am not answering that. It is entirely subjective, and to list the players who 'would' fit the system will take a hell of a long time. Sorry mate, but if you asked me which players might not, then I will answer.}

Which players will not edd and why? {Ed005's Note - In all honesty based on what I've read most of our players fit very well into the way Rodgers plays. I personally can't see Adam, Carroll or Downing fitting into it but I guess that is up to Rodgers.}

05 Jun 2012 17:18:23
Its been an odd season with weird scores and decisions. Many strange things have happened and things have been hard to prediction - Rodgers was a bit of a shock.
I wouldn't rule out an 'unrealistic transfer' e.g Solado or 'Hoillet' - stranger things have happened.
I would however suggest this, Rodgers said in the conference he is going to install his 'philosophy'. He also hinted at financial backing, their will be purchases to get his philosophy he will add some players. These are definitely sigurdsonn and a clinical cheaper less reputation finisher. The new Danny graham who was very successful, my own money would be on Rhodes. What do you think?

05 Jun 2012 17:16:23
is it true that joe allen has handed in a transfer request?
{Ed022's Note - No idea, but even so it would make no difference to Liverpool.}

Good don't want him.

It would Huw Jenkins said if a player becomes available he will have no obligation if rodgers was to bid for them regarding that they're available ofcourse.

Tom.

I bought the warrior home shirt today, can honestly say I can't remember the last time I was this happy with an LFC jersey. Realy comfy and excellent fit it makes last seasons feel like a polyester straight jacket. If you havnt already purchased I would highly recommend. If your in the shop in 2 minds starin at it, just try it on, you will soon be convinced.

Excellent debut home kit from warrior, the embroidered crest is a touch of class aswel.

John1892

I wont be buying any LFC jersey until they put the 2 torch's back on the crest where they belong, They were put there for a reason and its a disgrace that they took them off.

JUSTICE FOR THE 96

Greg

So John, do you work for warrior or in the LFC shop..?
your post is the best advert I've seen for the new shirt, who need Suarez or Gerrard to model it, they should get a pic of you and add your few lines as the slogan ..
You sold it to me, I am ordering one now.
Roy

I couldn't agree more.. I wore it to 5-aside last night and it was very comfy!

Myk

Well greg actually the torch is on the shirts just on the neck line so put your dummy back in and cleans all those toys you threw about.
That is pathetic its a Liverpool shirt not like they changed the colour like some Cardiff fans are maybe dealing with.

Jesus Rodgers was right some fans are just out too moan and ya cant please em.

Kopping a feel

Greg the two torches were never an original feature, they are for the 96, not many people knew this which is why it has been put on the back with 96, oh and also grow up sunshine, you are the disgrace, support the damn team

Could not disagree more GREG, the flames on the back of the neck, side by side of the 96 to me is now more significant and highlighted on the new shirt more than it ever has been before.
cobra.

100% agree with you John
Felt totally strangled in the last kit - bit like the players it showed in their play
New kit feels really comfortable - going to play in it tmrw
Agree The flames / 96 are more distinct now they have their own seperate place on
the shirt

Leam Red

Wind your neck in Greg your a total bore!

i think whatever happens ,
we must get dempsey signed, would be a perfect signing , a midfielder who can bang a goal or two when needed. has been playing on good consistent high for last 2-3 years in epl.

He said he wants champions league football and st 29 he wouldnt take the risk of signing for us and they never playing in the champions league if we dont qualify, i cant see us over taking united, city, newcastle, spurs, chelsea and arsenal in rodgers 1st season so dempsey will not sign for us. paul

ED001 if you won tonight's 106 million lottery and you could get liverpool 1 player this summer who would you try get for us obviously you wouldn't spend all your money but if i won it id stretch to a 40 million player lol
tonight's winner of the lottery {Ed001's Note - it would have to be Javi Martinez, he is just a fantastic footballer, perfect for the Rodgers' style of play.}

Alrite lads i would go for neymar exciting to watch i seen the game against the usa scored 1 set up the other 4 not bad days work -THE POPE

What would happen to Lucas then?

Eds, and other posters, what would you do with 106million. Spend it all on players for Liverpool?

Intriguing debate maybe,

Burnsy {Ed022's Note - If I was allowed to choose any player I want then yes. For me it'd be Eriksen all day long though. One of the best players in the world for me.}

Have to agree there Ed22. I think I would go for Martinez, Eriksen, Tusic, Powell, Sigurdson, and a youngish cheap striker. I think you could get all them for 100million, probably.

Burnsy {Ed022's Note - I'd also get Tadic. Great player.}

Neymar for £106m, I would

I'd buy Carroll, Downing, Adam, Enrique and Henderson,

(Players see their international career as a status not a pride or otherwise thing.
They need to play their asses off on the pitch for their club as they pay their money but the national team is a sort of look how good I am sort of thing i must be the best in the country.
They dont get paid for it they risk injury and the only reason they accept at all is as an ego boost to themselves.
I for years have said England would have a much better feel if they didnt hand pick the so called best in their respective positions but those that show desire each and every match against the lower opposition then they have earned the big games.
I for one am looking forward to this euros as I think we will see an England team with a point too prove.

Kopping a feel)

not saying this as a fan of england because im not. but honestly could see england being in the finals with the netherlands. cannot see England losing to france or the netherlands to spain. plus i expect germany to lose in the semis.....

if fellow supporters want to know all br transfer dealings at swansea . go to dodgy rumours on this site someone has listed them all . most money he has spent is 3.5 million on graham. all others bargain basement. look for 29 may 2012.

And your point is?

Would you expect Swansea to be spending big money on players???

Ive been reading that were looking at adam johnson as kuyts replacement! Personally i think he should be downings replacement and think someone thats technically better,quicker but has the engine that kuyt had should come in.

But how has them qualities?

ACHILLES.

Expect to see a few Uruguayans signing for Liverpool this transfer window. Some will be first team players and a couple will join the academy

Can you give us some names plz?

ACHILLES.

05 Jun 2012 16:07:35
Can anyone or the Eds remember the name of the young Irish kid who joined last year (personally overseen by Kenny) and what age group he plays in? Think he plays on the left but not totally sure? Thanks.

Ciario {Ed001's Note - Alex O'Hanlon, I think.}

He Signed Ohanlon under 16's,and the Belfst lad Ryan Mclaughlan,who to me looks the real deal.Strong in the tackle and great going forward.It will be him who will be our future Right Back and not Flanno.Remember the name.

Jiminy Cricket {Ed001's Note - I agree, that lad is a cracking player and one of the main reasons Flanno has been given a try at centre mid.}

Wasn't there a young lad at Derry this year, looked like we had him then Everton were mentioned, then Funnily Swansea. cant remember his name or where he went.

Rory odonelly (spelling) went to Swansea,

Tom.

He was from cliftonville of belfast. there is a good player from derry called quigley and he is a class center half

05 Jun 2012 16:07:15
if reina goes, which i dont want or think he will then vorm of swansea should be our man

How there's an agreement we can't sign any Swansea players?

05 Jun 2012 15:39:01
Not to sure Rodgers can attract any good players to our club, Chelsea just signed Hazard and are looking to get hulk, United got Kagawa and looking to get modric. While were been linked with Sigurdson, Diame and De Jong. These players wouldnt improve our squad, We need big players if we want to improve on 8th place. Im sure arsenal, spurs and newcastle will all improve during the transfer window. I dont wanna be scraping for 7th place again next season with everton, sunderland, swansea and norwich. graham

What a person u are. De jong n sigurdsson wud massively improve our squad. Stop spouting rubbish if u have never seen them play.
Indian Buzzer

If we had the billionaire Sheik offering Yaya Toure Wages, we could entice most players, even if we had Jessie J in charge of us,Cause it's all about the money.

Bruce Rioch signed Dennis Bergkamp for Arsenal.

Alan Pardew signed Tevez and Mascherano at West Ham.

If players sign for a manager rather than the team than I wouldn't want them anyway. And Newcastle showed this season that you don't need to sign "big name players" to be competitive.

JRG

Rodgers work in epl very long time so he know many player and agent here. and he have very good relation with mourniho so i am sure that work his fevour too.

Dont worry mate you wont be scrapping for 7th place because everton,sunderland and fulham will finish above you.league next year in order man city, man u, chelsea, arsenal, spurs, everton, newcastle, sunderland, fulham, liverpool, west ham, villa, wigan, southampton, qpr, southampton, stoke, reading, swansea and norwich.Terry

Di Matteo isnt as big a name as Rodgers but he signed them.

Seriously? give the man a f**king chance to get his feet in the door. its not about who our manager is its about what the team can offer them CL football etc and personally id rather have a player who wants to play for our great club instead of a player who signs for just for money

These players are young also... do you think ronaldo, messi started their careers as good as they are now... people like kagawa and hulk where nothing but they proved themselves and got the 'big' clubs lok at them, so why cant players like de jong and siggurdsson turn out world class a couple of years...
just look at cisse from newcastle he was nothing before they signed him...

So i voice an opinion and im a ''person'' grow up indian buzzer, ive seen plenty of sigurdson and de jong, sigurdson couldnt get a kick at hoffinheim and de jong isnt what hes cracked up to be, hes not an improvement on carroll and suarez, gonna be the new ryan babel, we need much better players than the players were been linked with. graham

Graham. You have to realise that City, United, Arsenal, Newcastle, Spurs and Chelesa are miles ahead of us and will be for a long time, we cant attract the sort of players that they can, No champions league for a few seasons yet

Graham. I guess you must belong to the third group of fans that our manager eludes to in his article on the website (and in the Independent) I am now going to take the lead from Brendan and totally ignore all fans who belong to this group.
KJS

Come on soft lad how can you honestly say di matteo isnt as big a name as brendan rodgers,will you liverpool fans take them goggles off omg lads ye ment to be good fans but ye acting like muppets wake up omg.Terry

Terry cant wait for BR to prove you wrong. See with are club we get behind the man who manages the club whoever it maybe thats why we are the best fans in the world.

Look can we all agree that next season whoever is brought in we will all turn up for the games respective of where you watch them and just cheer the lads on because if the fans on this site are the ones going to Anfield no wonder you can hear nothing but the opposing fans cahnting shall we sing a song for you.

Looking forward to seeing LFC in the top 5 and spurs in the bottom five next season

Paul LFC

I seem to remember a lot of this stuff being posted when "King Kenny" took over at LFC, how did that work out again?

Spur67

It ended with both sides in the Europa League next season I believe.

Good luck in the Champions League next season, if Harry manages your squad you can really go far.

Oh wait a minute.....oops....sorry, I forgot.

JRG

Do you know the funniest thing spurs 67 on your page you were all expecting massive signings as you had champion's league now your all worrying who will be leaving we don't seem to have that problem if i were you id be worrying about who you will have left next year not gloating because you throw an 11 point lead away and finished fourth below arsenal and didn't get champions league with major doubts over dirty harry been there next year as well we got your first choice to replace him shame because for so long this season your lot were going on about power shifts and been top club in london how did that work out for your lot lol

Introduce yourself to football banter.......then come back and realise how pointless that post was

Have to say from the way you're gobbing off you'd think you finished 17 points above us but err, that wasn't quite the case was it? Yeah, due to freak circumstances we missed out on CL but the table doesn't lie, we are way better than you and when we are in the mood you can't live with us as we showed at WHL and as for signings I think you've got more to worry about as KK blew your budget on v mediocre players. Spur67

Harry, Modric & Bale are all considering leaving ... best you concentrate on that rather than bigging it up on here.

Pointing out we finished 17 points above you isn't bigging it up just stating facts. Modric may go but Bale no, the fact is if Henderson, Downing and Carroll threatened to leave it would be the best news LFC had had in a long time! Spur67 {Ed005's Note - You are leaving which is the best news on this board for a while. See you in the Europa next year.}

You might have been better last year but as i said next year with 4 or 5 of your best players gone dirty harry sunning himself in the sandbanks then come back you seem a bit touchy about losing out on champions league dont know how you call throwing away an 11 point lead a freak call it if you hadn't done that it would't have matter what chelsea did even harry as soon as he thought england were sniffing around he was dying to get out of your horrible little club lol do you really believe his heart will be in it next year i doubt it face facts you were excited by the thought of some of your signings now you should be afraid very afraid see who you have next year if you dont believe me try your own banter page all doom nd gloom on there never mind back to school for you next week

Cause br is mates with jose, everyone is gonna start saying that we will be signing real m players, it's not gonna happen, no xabi no kaka no higuian. FairPlay some people live in a dreamland. We will be lucky if our top signing is Adam Johnson.

Dudek79

I would take Johnson as our top signing all day quality cheers psv

In a world were we all talk and hope for world class players or marquee signings. In a world were we make icons of range rover driving,diamond ear ring wearing super model dating millionaires it is great that our club has appointed an Irish man from Carnlough.

Bill Shankly didnt try and escape his roots he expressed his origins in his football philosophy.

Unlike most modern footballers who "escape" their humble backgrounds to enter the exclusive world of millionaires, Shankly had no desire to escape. Shankly brought his working class background with pride and knew it was this that gave him the edge.

That teamwork and collective endevour in the mines was a matter of life and death. That Socialism was not just an X on a ballot paper but a philosophy of life. And so as Brendan Rodgers said of his late father, the principles of the father were expressed in Swansea. Great principles like honesty live forever because they truely inspire the public.

Torres, Ronaldo etc all sheep like victims of a disposable celebrity culture who offer nothing lasting. Their sickening displays of gratutous wealth seperate them from imortality.

And as Brendan stated "no I is greater than we".
So Shankly and Paisley knew that it was a game of collective endevour wether on the field or on the KOP.

So as the country waves plastic flags to honour those privileged elite who have done nothing but bear their weight on the toil of their subjects I feel hope.

Because the Kings and Queens and celebrity footballers will ultimately be judged by history but a humble, honest man from the mining village of GLENBUCK will always be a legend because he walked not alone but with the people.

And so now Brendan from a tiny fishing village in Ireland arrives at Anfield with the greatest assets any Liverpool manager can have honesty and humility and principles.

The greatest of people do not sit like lords above humanity,elevated and lofty. NO Shankly was greater than any because he was one of us!

DONT BUY THE SUN

I don't want marquee signings, I want a strong team to be made.

Fantastic post mate.

Personally Eds if we do sell Skrtel what do you think the cahnces are of Coates getting some first team action.
Personally I think he has looked great everytime he has played and really looked in control even with Enrique leaving him with gaps he has made the right decisions what is everyone elses view on the other Uruguayan in the team.

Kopping a feel {Ed001's Note - I think Skrtel will only be allowed to leave if Rodgers thinks Coates is ready to play.}

What about him think about moving Kelly into his preferred position CB and skrtel being sold and not depending on Coates

Wozza {Ed001's Note - I was thinking Kelly and Coates would be needed, as Carra is not likely to be in the thinking.}

Coates has ben less than impressive if you look back over his 5 or so matches you'll see coates is not up to premier league speed and his lack of awareness nearly cost us a goal on 3 occasions.

Any new centre back would be nervous if you had Reina in goal behind you.

Your wrong Coates is a great defender you dont become young player of the Copa America defending against Argentina,Brazil,Mexico and even USA who were very good if I remember by being off the pace.
He was just a bit part player who does not speak the language and has NO experience of a partnership with any of the first teamers.Personally you need to give some players a chance because if we all listen to supporters like you we will be overhauling the team every season and then doing it again because their not good enough.

Kopping a feel

The last post is BS, he scored a cracker against QPR...

Coates plays better as left sided covering centre half, good reading of the game and cracking volley on him.

He made the jump from the Uruguayan league to the premier league. he played well in the cup against chelsea and stoke. he is only 21 so consistency will be a problem but i think that he has shown that he has what it takes to become a worthy replacement for agger or skrtel when they retire or when agger is injured

Eds,
how comes it that liverpool always beat all the other big clubs (ManCity, Chelsea, United) to the signature of all highly rated and highly coveted youngsters but miss out on the highly rated and highly coveted senior players? {Ed001's Note - because youngsters want to work with the best coaches and join a team they have a chance of getting first team football with. Senior players mostly chase the money.}

So we'll get Nick Powell then Ed001? ;) hope so
Anfield Rapstar {Ed005's Note - Nothing is guaranteed mate but I think he would get more opportunities to play here if we got him, certainly in the future.}

I think its great ed but do you think that if we continue signing top young players that we may surrcome to the bottleneck effect which happened with rafa ? don't get me wrong i'm delighted that we are going to sign all of these class players.
derryred

I don't know why people ar all so convinced that doni wil leave. He stated a few weeks ago that he would like to stay and fight for a place. Particulary after we have a new manager. He is also likely to get more game tie next season as we are in the europa league and he is likely to get game time in domestic cups as rodgers priority is on the league more so that king kenny.

Like (most) of the readers on this site, my heart belongs to LFC.

The success of our great club lies with its supporters, but was moulded by Bill Shankley during 15 glorious years in the sixties and seventies. These foundations were turned into a European powerhouse by the work of Bob Paisley and Joe Fagan in the seventies and eighties.
King Kenny was the last link to the heartbeat of this club.
twenty years of dodgy owners and managers living in the shadow of what went before, have left our club a shadow of its former self.

One thing has not changed.
The supporters.

Read Brendan Rogers story of how the Chelsea players felt during the champions league semi-final. They feared us.

Which brings me nicely to today.

I was one of the biggest advocates for the return of KK. It didnt work out, but I believe when fans look back in years to come, they will recognise the importance of the last twelve months. I believe in my heart that no one else could have steadied the ship as Kenny has managed to do.
But his job is done.
I have always given my full support to any manager that comes to our job.

The appointment of Brendan Rogers brings a different feeling. For too long We have been looking for someone to keep the liverpool way going. And have lost sight of what the Liverpool way is. The time has come for Liverpool to move forward.

In 1959, a young manager with new ideas came from Huddersfield to Liverpool, who were languishing in the second division. He woke a sleeping giant. He brought a new philosophy in playing style, and he identified the heart of this sleeping giant - its fans. The rest is history.

Forget the money of Chelski and Man City. We are are team built upon sterner stuff than some billionaires play thing.

I am not old enough to remember what it must have been like to witness the growth of LFC into a football powerhouse. I might just be watching the seeds of its rebirth. You dont believe me? r

'I would like to be remembered as a man who was selfless,
who strove and worried so that others could share the glory,
and who built up a family of people who could hold their heads up high and say WE ARE LIVERPOOL'
Bill Shankley.

'when you come to a club like this the shirt weighs much heavier than any other. The expectation - and the weight of expectation - is phenomenal.
My job next year is to try to lift some of that weight off the shirt. I'll take the pressure.I will always fight for my life for Liverpool, and that will be on and off the field'.
Brendan Rogers.

To the greatest fans in the world. Believe. Believe once again. We will never walk alone.

WE ARE LIVERPOOL.

Beautiful and so true. Great post my friend.
It is certainly time for the people to stand as
one again in all forms of life.

Which is why I am proud of our traditions that
were instilled in us and the club by Shanks.

Let's start by showing this again on the terraces

we will all see how much supporting each other

Nice one Terry. Money talks not fans? Liverpool fans are delusional?
Unfortunately, all chelski have is money not fans. Money doesn't talk for long - ask Blackburn Rovers (remember, bought a PL title a few years back...)
It speaks volumes the amount of fans of other sides come in here to comment on our team. Best go back to your fans Terry, and carry on the soulless fantasy football like the rich Russians playthings that you are. Isnt your main stand called the shed? Apt.

RE : his qoutes on whelan : Don't you just want Ian Ayre to shut up! I am astonished at how FSG can let him be a face of LFC in the media.

Eds do you know if he is still in the frame to lose his job at all, he was in charge of the whole suarez affair after all.....

I don't want Ayre to keep his job mate. But even I have to admit that Dave Whelan had that coming. He tried and failled to make a mockery of our manager process.

He deserved what was coming to him.

Players like,

D.Silva
G.Barry
Mata
Hazard
D.Alves,
Were all first linked with liverpool,but none of them signed for us.GUTTED!

What does this show? Players like silva,alves where linked at a time we had champions league to offer....

Who is nxt to b firstly linked with liverpool and end up somewhere else,

Ramirez?
Soldado?
Llorente?
Javi Martinez?

What's the problem with that? - all the players mentioned went to clubs paying a lot more in wages than we can/are, and all offering a bigger opportunity to win trophies - until we get stability, we have to face those facts. When we start winning trophies on a more regular basis, we will be down the pecking order when it comes to signing the "stars" of world football.

John B

You can blame Perry for a lot of those...

McSnuggles.

And we didn't have Champions League to offer Hazard OR Mata - our interest in them was more recent.

McSnuggles

We missed out on these players when we were in the Champions league and challenging for the Premier league most seasons. Liverpool would still be challenging and improving if they managed to get some of these players. Currently they stand little chance of getting players of this calibre due to the recent decline. Hopefully Rogers and FSG can turn things around.

Gareth barry is flattered

From my understanding, although its possible I'm wrong. Silva was close to signing but parry put the brakes on that as he did we augero and villa (imagine we'd got them 3 before they became world stars?) Barry (how he features in this list?) was on his way if we could of shipped Alonso to juve (Rafa must have been out of his mind). And mata was nailed on but Kenny wanted DOWNING instead.. (wtf!)

Hazard? Well just look at his charade in picking Chelsea, you really want this type of egotistical arrogance at LFC?

my point is; sh*t happens and over the last 10 years we have lost out on transfers but mainly thanks to tightwad Parry, but these owners have already shown they will stump up the cash so why doubt them? {Ed001's Note - Mata was never nailed on, he was interested until Chelsea came knocking, then we were out of the running.}

All this talk of gerrard playing in defence ! I Don't think gerrard will play at the back in any position ,don't forget he's now the England captain and wants to now lead the England team to the world cup in brazil playing in the middle , for a long time now we have all asked our selfs why don't they play glen Johnson at right wing ? Is this because the player won't jeopardize his chance for his place in the England side ? Have any of the ED'S got info on this subject for example when signed glen Johnson do you think he had it wrote in the contract to play my normal position of right back when I'm picked ??

SG will not play at the back simply becuase he's too good to play there.

Only the people who are away with the fairies see Gerrard playing in defence.

Really scared for next season now that all the top teams are signing world class players in numbers...

They have to gell and get on well, throwing money about doesnt garantee success, how long did it take real madrid to overtake barcelona?

Although money may not guarente success one thing is for sure, no team has won the premier league withought been massive spenders.

05 Jun 2012 13:07:25
Let's be honest, we would all be over the moon if we signed players like messi, Ronaldo, Henry, Gerrard etc... But what we need to do is sign players Before there prime and players who would suit our style of play. So all I ask is we keep the faith we have in Rodgers for many years to come and don't expect anything major in the first year. I honestly see Liverpool bringing GREAT things once Shelvey, Sterling, Kelly, Robinson, Suso, Carroll, Coates and many other younger players really concrete their names into the squad and establish themselves through more experience. What I'm expecting of BR is he signs more players like these, such as Boudebouz, Jackson Martinez, Powell, Maher, Luuk De Jong and Sigurdsson (just who I see as promising ping players). All in all, I see BR's transfer targets being for long term not to solve problems immediately. So again, all the best to him! Hell have my full support! YNWA

I would take gerrard out of that list seeing how we already have him

Haha yeah I know but it was just to back my point up on current world class players, merely an example :)

I cannot believe all the negatives about Aquaman... He was our BEST player pre-season by far.

The style Liverpool play now, and will under Rodgers, will be perfect for Aqua.

I appreciate that there are stories that he doesn't want to be there but can you blame him!! bought by Benitez (injury) like Andy Carroll and only played about 6 games his first season, getting MOTM on 3 occasions I believe. He also scored 2 and got some assists.

The next season he is loaned out.

He comes back and is Loaned out again!

So is it a case of HE doesn't want to be there, or the club didn't want him there?

I think BR will play him and find that he will be a key player for us next season... I really hope so, coz he is very creative and If we can get a pacy striker to play will Suarez we will score a LOT of goals.

He and his Missus (mainly) don't like England.
He cant settle here that's why he keeps getting loaned back to Italy with the hope that some Italian club wants him perminatly.
Unfortunatly with his injury record and his high wage demand, clubs are dubious.
He may end up back at Liverpool and eventually leave on a free.
Waste of 20mill and waste of talent

Pre season doesnt mean a thing, if anything he should have been the most well rested player

Half of rodgers style is a high pressing game, one which aqualani wouldn't bother with - hes a lazy player

Thats rafa for ya , and loads wanted hm back , so he could blow many more millions and then moan he had no money to spend ,

Voronin was insane in hsi pre-season games. Means bugger all fella

It is obvious the owners want to make us a club that will eventually be self-sufficient. If we won the league by buying it with a billionaire owner I would not consider it a great acheivement. So if the owners want us to produce a world class academy and find players who offer value for money on lower wages and get a new staduim then i'm all for it. This though will take time. I just hope Rodgers is given time to implement his stragegy, as I honestly believe in a few years we could be top of the pile. This is going to take a lot of patience from the fans and start trusting the owners a bit more. The club needs to all pull in the same direction now and let's move forward.

I'd be pretty happy with a championship bought by a billionaire sugar daddy.

Happier with an organic championship, but would take the GM one to stave of starvation.

Get real mate, we've been patient for 22years the next time the club is
up for sale it has to be bought by a
sheikh or oligarch no more 5 year plans
and presumably running the club properly
we came 2nd in 2009 and still didn't
move on,please,please,please no more
5 year plans we want the here and now...

auntie annie.......

Took Man city 3 years. So your point in being bought by billionaires is?

Hey eds, just out of interest are you aware of how many hits this site gets per day? Because I visit it every day myself, and I'm sure the same applies to most of the posters including some people who do not post. Just interested is all.
Thanks!

According to , Lille manager Rudi Garcia has stated Joe Cole will be returning to Liverpool for the time being. I doubt he'l be part of our plans on such ridiculous wages what you reckon ed(s)? {Ed001's Note - he will talk to Rodgers and then a decision will be made, probably soon though, so that he can be offloaded if need be.}

would it be possible to do a player profile on Marco Rues ? plus how likely would it be signing Adam Johnson? cud b a quality addition in my opinion and still only 24

Personally would prefer aquaman to Joe cole under rodgers style of play and he could form a triple threat with gerrard and Suarez or when gerrard and Suarez aren't playing it could be with sigurdsson and Carroll which could be a good source of creativity but iwas just wondering if anyone could tell me if cole or aquaman will be staying

Hi Eds,

can anyone give a bit of insight as to the style of players we will be looking at under Rogers?

my concern is that when Woy took over, he wasnt exactly ambitious with his vision for the club, with signings like Poulsen, Konschesky, Wilson (who may be alright in a couple of years) and im curious as, without a Sporting Director, who will be esponsible for signing players and how we will go about attracting players capable of a top-4 finish, which the owners are probably expecting.

cheers! {Ed001's Note - Rodgers will choose the players, he will also have a hand in persuading them to join by speaking to them and explaining how he intends to utilise them. The style of players will vary depending on the area of the pitch they are meant for.}

05 Jun 2012 12:21:35
What's the story with that Rasmus elm kid? Did we sign him? bid for him or what?

I very much doubt he would fit into Rodger's style of play. He isnt the fastest, more like a right footed version of adam. Good player though.

He very much will fit into rodgers game... What are you on about Indian buzzer? He's a master passer..

people say that friendlies dont matter and it makes people look good? ok sort of. i mean you won't pay 25 mil for someone on one good game you would scout them fuurther. but for me if your the only one trying out there or you work your ass off. and are good then by all meens id rather have you on my team then the overpaid superstar next to me who does nothing because its a "Friendly" you get paid to play soccer (club wise) so in the summer / friendlies you should not only work for your country (unless you hate your country which brings up why are you playing) or to atleast get better...... my opinion anyways...... BostonRedBlox

Players see their international career as a status not a pride or otherwise thing.

Kopping a feel

They do get paid for playing for england not not a lot £1500 for a win £1000 £500 for a loss not as much as club football and they were donating to charity up till 2010 dont know if they still are

Why is every1 saying gerrard in CB. If it's to fit BR style of building from the back would it not make more sense to play gerrard at RB. Gerrard started his carrer as a RB so y not play him there. Has BR said anything about gerrard playing CB or is this just a load of bs

Who's saying that?

Gerrard struggles positionally as a DM (just watch him for England when Woy plays him there in the Euros), he'd be slaughtered at CB.

Chelsea have signed Marin, Hazard and Hulk next. Man U sign Kagawa. Arsenal Podolski. Man City soon to start buying everyone.

I know that simply buying players of star quality isn't the way forward, but these 4 teams are already better than us and are strengthening with young stars. Top 4 is likely already out of our grasp before season starts.

We aint even close to those teams

Arsenal may have got Podolski but they are likely to lose Van Persie.

No champions league for Tottenham = No Bale and Modric = No tottenham = free 4th spot for us

Free 4th spot for us eh? Do you think Chelsea might have an interest in it,if not higher?

The Irish Rover

Free 4th spot for us? Are u forgetting where u finished this season???

Who says arsenal are guarenteed to get 4th?

Thanks for feedback. I would be happy if we gave the Europa a good run, and atleast looked like we were challenging for 4th. Can't lie. Expectations have dropped over past few years.

Whoever on here questions Arsenal's ability to get 4th should look at the stats. They have been top 4 for a decade, and they have lost better players than Van Persie before (eg. T. henry). I am a Liverpool fan, but I can still state the obvious. Arsenal will contend again next season.

So the 'New LFC is going to play 'tiki-taka' football are we?

So, exactly how many of the teams above LFC in the League, and in the Final of the Champions League and FA Cups play that style of football?

Ah. I see.

BR's obsession will lead to the manager being lauded for 'playing football the right way'. He will be liked by the media and guess what, Sir Alex Ferguson and Roberto Mancini will say what a great job he is doing.

Do they like him because it threatens them? Yeah right.

Its because they know it DOES NOT WORK and they know that ultimately without the likes of a group of 'generation' players, it achieves nothing. FCB is a totally unique institution (you know the kind that LFC once was) - and you can see the wheels coming off their wagon. Pep G knows that - and that is why he is leaving. The media and 13 year old boy,X-box obsession with 'playing their way' is doing my head in.

Oldham, West Ham, Blackpool, Reading have all been lauded for their football style over the past few years too. Does that mean that LFC should copy their style too?

The easiest thing for a Manager to do (in any area) is to say 'its all wrong, you must do it my way'. Its a lot harder and a lot smarter to refine, tweak, focus on a few things to do, improve. Steady turns of the wheel and building momentum. You know the kind of momentum that gets you to a few Cup Finals to give you confidence...that sort of thing.

Its easy to make big, bold changes and appear like a visionary. Check out most of the failures in US and British business. Plenty of egos. Plenty of 'visions'. Plenty of dramatic changes and promises of a future ... that is never to be.

The Messenger {Ed001's Note - you know Mancini has been trying to go that route with City right? Aguero, Silva, Nasri and Tevez up front do not lend themselves to long ball football! I seem to remember they won something last season, obviously I was wrong, as you are telling us that this style of football wins nothing. Must have missed the fact that Bilbao play a very similar style and that Barca have been cleaning up most trophies over the last few years playing it too. But yes, you are obviously right, what a stupid system, it will never win anything, right?}

I can't tell if this guy is trolling or what? Surely nobody is this stupid?

And let's not forget Ed, that Liverpool in the 70s and 80s played a similar 'Tiki Taka', or pass-and-move, style and had a little bit of success!

Stell

Stupid post.
TIZER RED

Now correct me anyone if I am wrong but arent all these styles that he says are stone age the same style.
Barcelona are just a recent team to come to mind who are good at it but Liverpools pass and move Netherlands fancy football Brazils style are all the same style really Arsenals and West hams are all the same they were just good at it at different time periods.

So just proven that this TIKI TAKA as everyone calls it now has been winning games and tournaments for decades but like the ed says your probably right.

Kopping a feel

I think The Messenger have a valid point, though it could've been explained better.Changing the style of football the club plays is a massive risky operation, tiki-taka is even harder to implement , ED001 mentioned City and yes they tried to play it , but to get somewhere near it they've invested over a couple of hundred million pounds, Barcelona sacrificed over 10 years being second fiddle to Madrid to get to where they are mastering this style of football. Tiki-taka need all squad players buying in to this style, and its not about the physical attributes of the player, its not pace or technicality, it requires a footballing brain through out the 90 minutes with and without the ball, now do we have the players within our squad to play it? for me except for Pepe and possibly Agger, the rest will need to adapt and thats the crucial point here, there will need to be an adaptation period, either the players need to adapt to BR style, or BR need to adapt to what the players can do, either way the fans and owners will need to be patience, and it may get a lot worse before it gets better, the question is will he be given this time.
Roy

Agree, to an extent. We thrived under Rafa with counter attack, similar to Real Madrid now. but the key is fast, decisive forwards, which we lack. Even Suarez doesn't have true pace. So I think the passing game is more likely to be successful than counter attacking football, and for the love of god, I cannot bear the long ball game.

To the Messenger > You can't be serious and have got to be kidding us all. You mean to say that lobbing the ball into the opponent's penalty area in the hope of it falling on a team member's head is skillful and a pleasure to see? Where is the skill, tactics and strategy in that? And why are players paid millions as professional footballers if there isn't any ability to adapt to a system? Don't they adapt every time a new coach is appointed (which is fairly often nowadays) and don't they adapt every time a formation is changed or tweaked? Possession football or tiki taka or whatever you want to call it, is simply the most pleasing to the eye (Ajax of 70's, Brazil of '82 and most other years, and now Bracelona). ra1969

Agree Roy, although I think there are a few other players in the first team who will have little problem, Lucas for instance. I think the key is that the old Barca youth coaches have had a couple of seasons withe kids allready. We are probably looking at 3 to 4 years before we really see any impact.
Something that has bothered me for a while really is the fact that Rafa gets slated on here for his tactics or should I say the way his teams played, but he brings in the Barca coaches with their style of playing, he sacrifices Alonso with his long passing game and keeps Lucas and Masch ( now at Barca) who play a short neat passing game, add to that agger and the type of kids he was bringing in, I feel his long term vision was exactly where were heading, he just realised he needed some succes in the first team whilst making the transition, but we'll never know now so lets see where this road takes us. Interesting times.

I think you will find Man Utd were played off the park by Barcelona twice playing that type of football and ferguson had no idea how to combat it

I'm sorry but don't I remember that style outclassing United twice in the champions league final? That style keeping Arsenal in the top 4 for the last 6 or 7 years while they have (arguably) had a poorer squad than some below them? Get your facts right before you post.
Joe

Haha I've read two posts now, and both have been utter garbage. The first he was worried about how BR was referring to himself as 'I','me' and 'my' and therefore might be too much of an ego. He then signed off 'the messanger', oh the irony! And now this junk, the guy is a nut ball who is almost certainly a united fan.

Hi eds, I would love to hear your views on dos santos of spurs, scored a cracker against brazil the other night, and reminds me of the masherano situation we had. Always delivers at international level, but not in the epl so far, lfc took a risk with masherano, and I think Rodgers may well do the same for dos santos. There must be a reason he made his Barcelona debut when he was 17! {Ed001's Note - he has an attitude problem, spends far too much time in nightclubs the night before a match, and can only play when given time and space. His 'cracker' against Brazil wouldn't happen to be the messed up cross that fluked in would it? He is quick, has decent skill, but he is not good enough.}

One 'fluke' goal obviously means that he's amazing, even though he couldn't even get in tottenhams reserves.

Two interesting articles published recently in Harvard Business Review and Forbes magazine have left me rather sober this morning..

Both point out the warning signs to look out for in managers who end up ultimately creating failure, causing factions, distractions, team disputes...

One of the biggest to note is a tendancy for EGO over team and the greater strategic good. Managers who are deep down looking at 'their career' and 'their next step'. Its an obsession with oneself - and this is most easily spotted through the speaker's over use of the first person pronouns, 'I', 'me', 'my', 'one'. This at first comes across (to the easily sold to..) - as powerful, commanding and focused. Unfortunately - it actually shows a shallowness, a fragility and a lack of external insight.

Unfortunately, BR has this in huge quantities. He is focused on himself - not the team. In his interviews and comments it is clear it is all about him, despite a few glib comments about a great club with history.

He chose LFC because of what it would give to HIM and how he can share his mighty footballing knowledge. This kind of style would work with youth teams - but not senior players who have played in Champions League, Finals, World Cups. If this translates into the Anfield dressing room - and the players start distruting his methods and see it as 'his project' not 'our team' - it will lead to disaster. Don't shoot the messenger. Think AVB. Think the pressure facing a team like Swansea and Reading every week - compared to the pressure facing an LFC, an Arsenal, a Man U.

Mark these words: Massive Clubs and Teams need huge coordination, collective effort and a bigger aim. I have an uncomfortable feeling that many of the players will see BR as being a manager who is fuelling his own ego and 'footballing brain' - and planning his next career move.

The Messenger

Thanks for that now get back on to the United page.

Tom.

Go back to bed mate

Rafa had an ego the size of the eiffel tower yet he was succesful and very focused on himself

What a ridiculous post! How the hell is he supposed to answer questions like 'How do you feel about becoming the new Liverpool manager?' and 'What is your football philosophy?' without using the words 'I', 'my', 'me' etc? Should he refer to himself in the third person all the time? Why people are trying to constantly pick holes and find faults before a ball is even kicked is beyond me. We have a manager. Let's get behind him and see what he can do!

Stell

Who is the most egocentric manager that we can think of? Mourinho by any chance? And of course he has been a failure!

Can someone please shoot the messenger.

You make a very good point indeed.
The self perpetuating 'Ego' is one of arrogrance, bravado, and self importance.
I too have noted this in various interviews with BR.
Being a psychologist (by profession), I encounter these 'personalities' on a regular basis, there is latent narcissism present.
BR's original posture of not wanting to be interviewed as he felt 'he was good enough, and indeed better, than other candidates', shows a distinct narcissistic trait.
I just hope he keeps his 'ego' in check, or else he will be blaming everyone else for failings and shortcomings.
Time will tell.

You have a point, he is nothing more than a coach with a massive ego. Who thinks the football clubs owes him.

He has no loyalty, if real madrid where stupid enough to give him a job offer tomorrow. His first words would be "I have 100% commitment to liverpool football club"
Then it would be on to 192 for the telephone number of real madrid and next easy jet flight out to spain. The guy has no class.

Good lord someone tell the messenger to stop with the messages

Most of the stuff in business journals and periodicals is commons sense dressed up as something profound. The rest is simply rubbish.

The Liverpool manager job requires someone with a very big ego. As does United, Real, and Barca.

Have you heard of Shankly, Ferguson, Mourinho, etc, by any chance?

Hi ed's, thanks for a great site, its the best on the net.... I just have a point to make, and would like some feedback from yourselves and other red fans, I have recently read a lot of views on selling Jamie C, and find it hard to believe some fans would even consider such a thing, what about playing Carra as a DM to cover for Lucas, I personally think he would do a brilliant job there.
Let me know what you think, cheers SteTheRed ynwa {Ed001's Note - I think he would be decent cover there, but I do think his time as a first choice player has gone. I don't think his ability to pick a pass is good enough, he still has the annoying tendency to just lump it long. It is all the more annoying because he is better than that, he has the ability to pick a pass, he just seems to forget himself and think Houllier is the manager still!}

I think Jamie Carragher's time in the first need be no more . His wages also makes him a very expensive covering player .

If his career has more legs in it , I say many other clubs could benefit before he proves himself as a coach and returns to LFC .

There are so many former LFC players that were superior to Jamie Carragher and gave just as much effort & passion to be 'let go' when their '1st team game' was not of the required standard , alas that time may be right now for Jamie Carragher .

The notion that he should be employed by LFC for the next 30 years is not an automatic one for me .

This is just an opinion and I look forward to Buck moving the team forward in as many ways as possible as succesfully as possible .

EdWood

I wouldn't like Carra to retire just yet, I still think he can offer something based on his return to form towards the end of last season. Where he just decided to smash it anywhere when under pressure.

Having said that I definitely wouldn't like to see him play DM, he was played their in the FA cup tie against United, and he didn't have much clue where to be and constantly went back into his confort zone in defence, and he was far too slow. Rather Coady or Spearing play their instead of Carra, I think Kelly could do a job there just based on his talent.

Lets be honest these owners bought lfc on the cheap, dont have the money to compete with the top clubs in england and cant buy top quality players. This is why they didnt approach benitez but instead went for rodgers, im not complaining here but lets be honest. These owners havent and will not buy top quality players because they dont wana pay the wages, chelsea, man city both bought quality players to improve, im not saying we need to spend 100s millions but it seems we are looking at bargain bucket players i.e. sigurrdson, dempsey, rasmus elm and co. Thats all well and good but if you cant buy 1 or 2 top class players then surely they are not financially able to own a club like liverpool fc, they continously talk big about being able to compete with anyone financially but really where is the proof? Paying over inflated prices for average players just so you can pay them low wages. RedTurk {Ed001's Note - you would rather they put us back into the situation G&H ended up with then? On the verge of administration because of the enormous, unsustainable wage bill.}

I recognise your concerns but you are totally missing the point of the plan... You don't have to spend mega millions to get quality....

Carroll was £35m and his return was poor. I can think of many many players that are £35m or less that are better and would score far more goals.

On the other hand Lucas was about £5m. Can you name a YOUNG defensive midfielder that is comparable for this sort of price?

FSG did pay BIG money for Carroll. The problem was, no one else was him for him so why we paid so much is beyond me. However, FSG signed the cheque.

Where you are mistaken is Man City, Chelsea will buy at ANY PRICE. These have Millions that they are prepared to WASTE. Just check their accounts... If they were companies they would be wound up years ago....
Man United and Liverpool are trying to run it as a viable business. And if you look at the history of united under ferguson he was fortunate enough to have a team at the start that cost him next to nothing as they were all from the academy. This allowed Utd to get a pot of money for transfers. They generally buy 1 or 2 players of top quality every year. So spend maybe £50m.
Liverpool have had to completely overhaul their side coz we have wasted too much money on piss poor players and made a massive loss. I appreciate that united also do this (BEBE). But to the extent of Liverpool. This is why we have a much higher turnover of staff.

Pay high ONLY if in competition with someone. Otherwise pick of the best of the market at a fraction of the price. Alan Pardew and Newcastle are masters of this.

FSG are not stupid... They have reiterated that they WILL make Liverpool the top team in the premiership, at some point. But let Chelsea and Man city carry on with their little games. When the owner gets bored, they up s**t creek....

For heavens sake.
Take a look on the Forest rumours site and see what state Billy Davis' rash spending (among other deeds of mis-management) has left them.
Take a look on the Leeds rumours site and see what state their expensive and ultimately unsuccessful push for the sustained Champions League has left them.

Be very careful what you wish for - you may get it!

Im just saying ed they are not able to support a big club like liverpool, we are bigger then man city and chelsea, wider fan base too. We cant afford a new stadium with these guys but man city and chelsea can, they buy top quality players, some cheap and some expensive but the point is top players will be play in the top clubs showing ambition to be great, frankly which top player will want to play at lfc, after we have bought players like downing and co. jus to pay them 50,000 a week? Top players get paid 70,000+ a week and they wana play with other top players not adam, henderson and downing. No wonder suarez always looks frustrated, we will only get middle of he road players paying 50,000 a week. RedTurk

Are Red Turk & The Messenger the same person?

It is true the club will be operating within the means afforded through revenues , but the owners are capable of further sustainable investment when required .

We certainly have the money to make 'serious progress' over the next few years before we even need to think about breaking tha bank to make an big impact . JMHO .

EdWood

RedTurk you are by far the most negative person on here. I'm surprised that you can get out of bed in the mornin without the negative thought that you might fall.
Do you honestly think that appointing Rafa back as manager at this time would have been a step forward. I think you'll find that he was not selected because they wanted a fresh approach for the club to move forward. They had already appointed a former manager, due to fan power, and decided to remove him with the view to move forward and rebuild. It was a big statement by the owners, removing a legend of the club, a statement that would not be backed up by then appointing another former manager. Benitez is also notoriously difficult to work with hence why he was sacked by Inter Milan and why he hasn't been given a job by anyone since.
We in turn have now got one of the best up and coming young managers who has class, is intelligent, charismatic, a student of the game, hard working, has a vision, gets the club (having come from a family of Liverpool Fans), understands whats needed, has an eye for a player, is disciplined and has built up a wealth of experience (more than some realise) and knowledge in modern training techniques and methods.
Just for once try and be more positive and give it a chance. You wanted Kenny out so badly and now you got that what did you expect..? Mourinho? Guariola? If you're not happy maybe you should think about what you wish for.
I for one am excited about us having a fresh start now and a fresh approach, it could just be what the club needed, who knows..?
Time will tell.

Danny

He has a massive point to make and one that the fans notice.

We could of gone with a diff-stratergy two years ago, the owners could of replaced our two central midfielders and we would of been able to attack 4th spot, but they decided to cheap out.

Infact damaging the brand they bought. So if anyone has damaged the club in the last two years, it would be the lack of inwards investment by the owners.

At least Hicks understood, instance transfer funds would get lfc + rafa champions league in 2006/7.

I nominate that Redturk be given his own page here, just like Macca. Just so that I don't waste my time reading his posts over here. And if someone has his address, I also suggest he be sent a 6 months supply of Prozac & Zoloft (anti-depressants). ra1969

So are you implying the owners are simply lying to the fans? They have openly stated that they will invest and build a true champion. They have spent close to 400 million doing so. And you still doubt them. Do you think they are entertaining themselves?

Since they bought us our value as a club has gone up simply because the price they paid was soo low. once they have improved the club they will sell for a profit thats there business plan.RedTurk

{Ed006's Note - Hang on RedTurk, you just had a go at me saying Im not the manager or owner of LFC but you know their business plan?! Please tell me you are joking!}

How much more money did Dortmund spend to finish well above Bayern? None - they spent far less.

City have outspent United by hundreds of millions - and only won with the last kick of the season.

It is managers and their ability to mold a team that counts. Money helps, but it is not everything. Not by a long shot.

Our club philosophy is to follow the Barca model - develop players rather than buy them.

Also, our fans do not want to buy the title, like City or Chelsea have done.

You seem to know nothing about our club.

Ed as we know we have bought the kid foday nabay just liked to ask is he any good can't get anything up of him {Ed001's Note - I haven't seen him play, but I have heard very good things of him, he is said to be the best in his age group.}

Apparently, he's only 14 but already playing for Birmingham's Under-18s and has represented England in Under-16s...sounds impressive {Ed001's Note - I just hope he is as good as Jerome Sinclair, he is a real talent that has already stepped up to the U18s.}

Have liverpool signed him yet or are they just linked to him ?

{Ed006's Note - Apparently signed mate}

i cant beleive some of you think we could want or need DEFOE?? what? We are Liverpool... need I say more? BR wont sign garbage anyway.. guaranteed we're goinna have a strong side next season, eds thanks for the work you do fellas

Defoe is a decent, pacey and awkward striker.
Walcott is a whippet who is still young. Considering we currently only have two strikers then these two would add something to the squad.
Rumour has it that Dalglish was about to Sign Walcott this summer. I don't know if he's still in ther plans though.

Walcott is pointless and terribly over-rated.

why dont we go and 4 van de vaart

Too injury prone. Too arrogant. Agree that he has talent, when healthy.

Starting to get a bit worried about the lack of transfer activity, or are we waiting to lose all the bargains and be buyin mediocre players for over the odds again? You would have thought we learnt from last year!!

Mate calm down, Rodgers hasn't even been manager a week yet. He need a bit of time to start sorting out transfers and the international transfer market doesn't open until July 1st. Also we don't know what's going on in hte pipeline. Give it time.

JitB jft96

Officially -
Transfer window not open yet.
Brandon Rodgers on holiday.

Unofficially -

Deals go on behind closed doors.. Secret whispers as they say.
Deals could be going on as we speak it's just not publicated just yet!.

Who knows :)

Been sod all transfer activity from anyone, mate.

Only major transfers I can think of have been Podolski, Kagawa and Hazard. And Podolski was the only one we could've gotten a sniff of really.

Chelsea buying Hazard and Hulk. Were buying Dempsey et al. Where is our ambition? If we want to improve as a team we need to be in the market for players like Hulk. Otherwise well never progress.

A) We're not getting Dempsy. It's a rumour. And as far as I am aware an unfounded one.
B) We don't have the money for someone like Hulk and he wants Champions League.
C) You've heard the ambition. It is to get this club back to where it belongs. Back with the title itself. But this won't happen over night.
Give it time mate.

JitB jft96

Well if you give the club a few hundred million we can buy them, its just not realistic

Chelsea are doing what we should have done in 2005. They've got the pulling power from winning the CL and are using it. We don't have that kind of pulling power any more, it will take time to get it again. It will take smart signings and good management, but I have every faith in the current set-up to restore it

I'd rather have fckin Bill Bixby than the hulk, he's crap.

Realistic targets, affelay, a.johnson, dempsey, krasnic. I think we could do with a creative central midfielder but who is available in our bracket of player?

With Skrtel and possibly Reina not happy could be looking at a keeper and centre half. Any rumours off players wanting to follow Kuyt?

Sigurdsson is available

Red Ollie

Adam Johnson, no thanks.

Diego Ribas is available. No better player for the CAM position than him, imo.

Liverpool need an out an out proven goal scorer either soldado, llorente, cavani or Lavezzi an we also need a mass clear out
Henderson
Spearing
Aquaman
Cole
Adam
Downing
Carroll( season loan )

Who agrees?

Henderson has to say

Mass clear out? Didn't we have one last season? Listen to what BR has to say ... evolution not revolution.

Henderson, Carroll and Downing all have to stay.

Ed's, just wondering why Hoffenheim arent keen to keep hold of Sigurdsson? Or do they, but hes keen on leaving?

Sam Adzii {Ed001's Note - he doesn't fit in with their play.}

They could also do with the money.

From what I understand, they've had 4 managers in the 2 seasons Sigurdsson's been there, most of whom have been very hard to please. Sigurdsson was their player of the season in his first season there, but in the next was reduced to mostly substitute appearances. When they needed money, he was loaned out with a view to selling. Since then, they've changed their approach and invested heavily, so it's no longer a money issue, but they can't force him to stay now and he'll leave if he wants

You're all saying you're gonna sign these wonderful big name players, why would they choose you now, you finished 8th and have only got European football for beating Cardiff, it's about time you realise you're a club on the downwards spiral, if Suarez does move you're completely screwed, you have the worst center forward in the league, and one of the worst midfields in the league! You're saying fellaini is overrated he bossed the midfield in every game since Christmas! If he is overrated what is downing, Henderson, Carroll, Suarez, Adam. Admit it you're on a downwards spiral from now on!

A happy poster

"Rio Ferdinand,also goes onto mention how much he misses when Man Utd team used to boss the England set-up. "I was allowed to take my own decks n everyfin, and design their nightwear"
Also going onto mention, from his new auto biography " Braap, Braap innit bruv" Gary Neville turned down Sky Sports & ESPN & MOTD & football focus as he was looking forward to educationg Rio how to grow a set, and admit its time to move on!
Piddy.

I guess your a bitter then well at least we have money to buy players we dont need to have a car boot sale to try raise some funds for washing powder to wash the kit when uncle bill sells all your best players you wont have no 1 to boss any midfield maybe the 1 down the park in the sunday league thats about it

Funny i think that without the best cb combination in europe we'd be screwed

what has Brandon Rogers really done? his career finished at 20. Reading helped him become a youth team coach in 1993 to 2003. He then left for Chelsea's Morinho where he became the youth team coach.

What did he really do at chelsea, I seem to notice that they like to spend 30million + and buy the best. No one has come through. John Terry moved to chelsea in 1994 at the age of 14.

fast-forward, 2008 he leaves to manage watford. The older players revolt against him. They finish mid-table and said he wasn't moving away from watford. Then he moves back to reading. Making the watford supporters look like idiots. He moves back to reading FC, the club that helped him all his life. At reading he lasted 4 months from sept to december, string of bad results and older players that didn't perform.

6 months later (july 2010) he is put in charge of a Swansea team who where managed by Roberto Martinez, full of kids, martinez selected the style of play, training, bought in 7 decent players, took 2 with him to wigan Fwd Scott Sinclair & creative Jordi G髆ez, board/council built 20,000 seater new stadium for Swansea

So roger rebuilt the team to play in premiership

GK Vorm - (Rogers)
Angel Rangel (martinez)
Ashley Williams (martinez)
Garry Monk (martinez)
Caulker, Steven, (spurs loan- Rogers)
Neil Taylor (Rogers)

Nathan Dyer (martinez)
Andrea Orlandi (martinez)
Agustien (martinez)
Leon Britton
Joe Allen
Mark Gower
Scott Sinclair (Rogers 1.5 chelsea)
Wayne Routledge (Rogers)

AMID Gylfi Sigurdsson (Loan Rogers)
STK Graham, Danny (watford, old club Rogers)

STK Lita, Leroy, (Rogers)doesn't play
STK Dobbie, Stephen, (Rogers)loaned out
STK Moore, Luke reserves (Rogers)
STK Craig Beattie (Rogers)

- So real achievements are signing
- GK Vorm - (Rogers)
- winger Scott Sinclair for £1.5m, old club chelsea
- Loan signing of Caulker, & Sigurdsson
- signing Danny graham, old club watford

He found the players to get swansea to next level, the council provided the stadium, but he can't go to the likes of chelsea and watford when he is at such a big club like liverpool.

putting a side player purchases, he isn't innovator he is a follower. He will execute some else's plan. So training, ect. will have to come from next dof.

Rogers is nothing more than a over paid puppet for the boardroom, dof & americans. {Ed001's Note - except he changed the style of play to introduce more emphasis on possession, conceding less goals and so gaining promotion to the Prem and staying there. You seem to have forgotten that, he never stuck with Martinez's style, he altered to suit his way of thinking.}

If thats the case how come martinez never got swansea promoted and paulo souza who came in after him struggled with them players with a 31% win rate rodgers came in made a few adjustments a few signings and a better way of playing and got them promoted your going on about martinez it would have been exactly the same had he been appointed you would have been on here what has he ever done puppet of the board i guess you wanted rafa back

We need goal scorers. De Jong & Gylfi are just what the doctor ordered. Both are both realistic targets. Boudebouz is also a realistic target & would give the team something different. I would settle for these three players. I we could get Gaston Ramirez it would be perfect

Henderson and Carroll!
They were (still are) both young and promising players and look at the reaction there both currently getting.

What about Luuk De Jong and Bas Dost? Luuk De Jong scored 25 league goals in 24 league games,4 goals in 10 europa league appearances,1 goal in 4 champions league matches,3 goals in 3 cup matches, and 1 goal in 1 game in the dutch community shield. Altogether, he's scored 34 goals in 42 games.Bas Dost scored 32 goals in 34 league games and scored 6 cup goals in 5 cup games. Altogether, he's scored 38 goals in 39 games. They both have a lot of assists to their name. They would only cost 19 million(Bas Dost 7 million and Luuk De Jong 12 million) Combined, they have 72 goals in 81 games. Not shure about you, but I would like a strike force providing that many goals and assists. What do you think eds? {Ed019's Note - We are interested in Luuk de Jong}

Question for the Eds?

A lot of people seem to be speculating that BR's targets are going to be pretty much the same as KD's with maybe Gylfi and Clasie being exceptions. My question is, when the new Manager comes in wouldn't you expect a new set of targets to emerge?

Mark the Selby Red

Brendan would have been looking at Swansea targets. I should emajine he would like better players for Liverpool and he hasn't had time to check out many players yet so hel be looking at our scouting reports and checking out the players our scouts have already done the legwork for. Therefor most target will be same as kennys. That's just my opinion.

Eric the red

I would imagine the scouts have an extensive review of many players and not just targets exclussively. There be lots of info on plenty playersd. Its just a case of BR and his team sifting through the info and picking out what suits him best.

Gazza

Targets will be different but then again scouts have listed players. It is likely the targets the media is outputting may not even be our targets at all.

Don't See why we are going for Dempsey,from what I have seen of dembele tearing past our midfield the last 2 seasons he is a better option than Dempsey

People massively underestimate the value of goals. Football is about putting the ball in the back of the net. Dempsey scored 23 goals last season, he knows how to score and we really need that. Not saying we should sign Dempsey, just don't go complaining if we did sign Dembele and none of our midfielders are scoring next season

Just read an article on caughtoffside saying how BR is going to axe 8 (yes eight) players this summer... Yet another reason I shall not stray away from this site again, and I give thanks to the eds for all their amazing work.

A lot will be fring players or players already on Loan, Dirk and Amoo have already gone.

If the unreliable CaughtOffSide said that LFC are going to Axe 8 players this summer then it must be true?

Then again I have always believed in fairy tales.

Mojo

I used to read Caught Offside but I soon realised that they made it up as they went along. They just have ridiculous stories to catch attention.

Caught offside are you serious

Just think up a story, no matter how random or far-fetched it might seem, and send it to caughtoffside and you can be their new in-the-know source.
That site is full of jackanorys

Load of Players were leaving anyway so its not a manager change as such but mainly the obvious.
Kuyt (now gone), Maxi, Cole, Aqualani, Aurelio are going or gone. So there's 5 at least

Caughtoffside get there sources from other media outlet sites. I used to be a long-term follower of that site until I came across this. AgC.

They are also saying henderson downing adam will be gone

Just a little fire side chat really, about the new gaffa and his style, method and sacrifices to get ''the system right'' in place.

Brendan Rodger's preferable system is a 4-2-3-1. With two holding players and three players in front and 1 out and out striker. At times of pressure, he gets the midfield to pull back and become a flat 5 in front of the flat back 4 with a strong target man (Danny Graham, coincidentally a Geordie).

His all time Prem 11 was interesting to look at, he chose Schmeichel as the Gk. A much standardized back line in many a pundit and managers mind i should imagine.

The midfield was much more interesting for me, he went with Scholes and Keane as the holding players and Henry, Zola and Ronaldo with the three pronged attacking midfield. Henry on the left, Ronaldo on the right and Zola in the middle.

Zola is what Brendan describes as one of the best players to get in between the lines and even describes the position as ''the Zola zone''. He did make mention that the next best at it was Dennis Bergkamp and he would be a close second to Zola.

Rodgers capped off a fine all time Prem 11 with Alan Shearer. Whilst i was saddened that Steven Gerrard wasn't in the team, i took a moment to appreciate how many other Premier greats were not in the team.

Also Rodger's stressed that Giggs wasn't in the team because of the system being more important than the player, i took a moment to wonder about Sterling, for him to survive in Rodgers system he would need to play in the ''Henry role''.

Now i find many things about Rodger's style of coaching similar to Benitez's, maybe it's because of the similar formation and desire for Balance as Benitez would say, but i think Rodgers has a very commanding presence and obviously has passion and belief in his tactics, which seems quite infectious, as did Benitez.

Rodgers all time Prem 11

_______Shearer
_Henry___ Zola___Ronaldo
____Scholes__Keane
Cole__Terry___Adams__Neville
_______Schmeichel

Rodgers current Liverpool 11 (as the squad stands currently) in my opinion, in keeping in harmony to the all important ''system'' which he will no doubt enforce.

___________Carroll
__Downing__Shelvey__Suarez
______Gerrard___Lucas
Enrique__Agger___Skertl__Johnson
___________Reina

Downing immediately gives the new Manager's system something to think about, as does Henderson's exclusion, as i believe Shelvey will be seen as the preferred choice here, due to his comfort on the ball and his success at Blackpool last season.

The possible signing of Sigurdsson wouldn't bode extremely well for Henderson/Shelvey or Downing in my mind, but i think Downing could be the one to lose his place here, but then Dyer who is a natural winger has manager to sustain a place in an unorthodox position for a winger.

I think Carroll is made for this, he's going to technically have three players to lay off too and to feed him. I think its going to provide much more support and will get more out of him.

~BR' note pad {Ed001's Note - funny, Rodgers himself said he plays with one holding midfielder, not two.}

Funny too, Sterling plays similar (albeit better potential IMO) to Sinclair...

Richards

Two holding Midfield players would be dire.

Interesting stuff, in the current squad Adam or Henderson could sit next to Lucas and Gerrard move further forward. Joe Cole also could be part of a front three with Gerrard back with Lucas. We do have options and players that can fit into the system.

Evo YNWA

John Barnes say's the same thing about systems... he say's that 9/10 Barcelona's system would get them a results from the game and then when they really needed it, Messi would do something else to get a result from the game.

No room for egos! That's good!

I think you might find that Scholes would play ahead of Keane as the playmaker in this formation ie like Rafa's used Mascherano and Alonso. Mascherano protecting the back 4, Alonso slightly ahead dictating the play.

I don't get all this fuss over Scholes. Sure he was a good player but isn't it obvious that Gerrard was better? I think people have seriously rose-tinted glasses on when it comes to Scholes.

One thing that's pretty clear from Rodgers' "Prem XI" and Swansea team is that he's not afraid to play strikers on the wing of a front 3. I think Suarez might play there next season, wouldn't be surprised if (with no signings) the team was something like this:

Reina
Johnson-Skrtel-Agger-Enrique
Gerrard-Lucas-Henderson
Bellamy-Carroll-Suarez

Red Ollie

''{Ed001's Note - funny, Rodgers himself said he plays with one holding midfielder, not two.}''

@ Ed001, i'm just going on what Rodgers said when discussing his all time Prem 11 and his ''system'' in genera with his old Swansea team.

He does play 2 holding mids, check it out, he talks about it quite a lot on motd3, in a 27 minute clip on youtube from just over a month ago, so it's quite fresh in terms of when he said it and discussed it.

BR' note pad
{Ed005's Note - Based on what I read about his philosophy and the zones in his teams he doesn't use two holding midfielders. He uses one but at Swansea he used Joe Allen as someone who could win the ball and works hard for the team - but his primary duty is attacking - winning the ball high up the field if possible and dropping back if needed. That's what I see anyway.}

05 Jun 2012 04:51:40
I think that we should renumber a few players next season:
04 - Lucas - Aquilani doesn't deserve it
06 - Skrtel - Aurelio has left
12 - Kelly - if Pacheco leaves
13 - Gulacsi
17 - Sterling
24 - Robinson

Numbers that may become available for new players
01 - unless Jones stays
10 - unless Cole stays
11 - unless Maxi stays
15 -
18 - Kuyt has left
20 - unless Spearing stays
21 - if Lucas gets the number 4 jersey
22 - unless Wilson stays

Any thoughts about my renumbering and who would you give the numbers to?
Ed's can I have your opinions on this as well please.
Scouse_Pride
P.S.
I put a 0 before 1 4 & 6 so they line up properly. {Ed001's Note - I am sorry mate, I just don't really think what number they have matters one bit.}

Lucas will not change his numbers. he has promised to stay 21 via his twitter.

skrtel loves the number 37

others i dont know.

The only number I think that is massive is the number 45 what a genius Balotelli was when asked why the number 45 he said 4 + 5 = 9 that is legend.

This whole stadium thing, is starting to sound like some damn 'soap opera'. Mindles bulls*it, and endless repetition, a plot that goes on and on.
Come on FSG, do something positive, stop procrastinating, I am sick to deat of Ian Ayres ramblings!.

A perfect example of Group 3 supporter ,as stated by BR.

Right I'll sort it out this afternoon
Start building at 6am tomorrow open by 12.00
Sorry for the delay it's not a complicated thing to do as you must know due to your
obvious knowledge on the subject.

Your Sincerely
Ian Ayre

ps You N"@h":d

I would imagine that the stadium plans are all ready probably just waiting on the contracts with Air China to be finalised and then they will use that money to fund the building barring obviously any contingencies that need ironing out but believe getting the funding is the only real thing in the way.
Personally a very smart move in my eyes getting paid to make money.
I would check with some of the editors though they seem to have a real insight.

I hope Brendan Rodgers gets going with his transfer soon, as I see a mad scramble ahead (aroind the Euros), and many teams are going to be looking for 'cost effective buys'
Even SAF seems concerned about the current prices of players.

Our situation is a bit different, as we can not offer Champs League, so LFC and (need to move swiftly to tie up 'the best alternatives'M

I see that Eden Hazard claims Joe Cole advised him to join Chelsea... Wow! 'That sure is great loyalty by JC', what a damn fink, the sooner he is gone the better, has he forgotten who is paying most of his wages (a true Benedict Arnold).

Friendship is more important than football and if Joe thinks that Eden would do best at Chelsea he should say! Its not like we had a chance of signing him anyway!

We were never an option this season

Can't compare the two cos I think you'll find that Arnold defected to the RIGHT side!

Chris in Tamworth

Hazard was never going to Liverpool, Liverpool were never buying him for 32mil and with those wages, Hazard is a little muppet and I wouldnt want to ever see him in liverpool jersey.

ed's i tried the search function, but couldn't find anything, can you please explain why there seems to be so much talk of glen johnson leaving the club? is it just people putting 2+2 together or something more? thanks in advance, fantastic work guys!
JAYLFC

Pretty sure the owners aren't happy with his wage for one, and the stipulation in his current contract that he has to play right-back. He would not be offered the same contract again, so I think they want to get rid while he has some value.

LIVERPRES

He will have a great world cup and then leave. he is looking sharp in training.

He is such a little B---- he knows the score, perform in euro 2012, then move on. He isn't thick.

05 Jun 2012 03:05:43
Five players said to already be on Brendan Rodgers' radar
- Gaston Ramirez, 21
- Joe Allen, 22
- Ryad Boudebouz, 21
- Gylfi Sigurdsson, 22
- Luuk De Jong, 21
I think all good, all young and with the right attributes for the team. Joe Allen to play in midfield with Lucas Leiva. I read somewhere that Rodgers may look at the possibility of playing Gerrard in the back four in effectively a 4-3-3 formation, so could the team look like this?

Pepe Reina (25)
Glen Johnson (2)
Steven Gerrard (8)/Martin Skrtel (4)
Daniel Agger (5)
Jose Enrique (3)
Lucas Leiva (21)
Joe Allen (6)
Gylfi Sigurdsson (11)
Luis Suarez (7)
Gaston Ramirez (10)
Luuk De Jong (18)

Doni (32), Kelly (12), Henderson (14), Boudebouz (17), Sterling (22), Bellamy (39), Carroll (9).

Why on Earth would any manager want to play Gerrard at CB?

You need to let it go lad, it's not a reality that will be realised on this plain of existence, not unless Stuart Pearce becomes LFC manager, after all he played David James up front XD.

Not happening at all. Not as a genuine positional change.

I take it your mrs Rodgers with all this pure information on who he wants and who he'll buy.

Other than sg at defence it looks good

Why bother with shirt numbers?! You pretending to be in the know/have a source etc.. I have a source at warrior who is printing shirts with names and numbers...

Rubbish.

You have Gerrard in the wrong position , he is he best right-back at the club . Johnson has played his last game for us .

Is Martin Kelly only 12 I thought he was older than that!

Gerrard in back 4?!! What are you smoking mate?

Why does everyone want Joe Allen don't get it we're better than that.

Bielsa played Martinez as a CB and it was considered a master stroke.

Ash

Steven gerrard cant play cb

Not 100% on this, but my source tell's me that Sigurdsson will sign for us. Rodgers really rates him and know's he'll want to come to Liverpool under him.
Cheers

Is he good enough ? what was he like at reading where BR was sacked.

Rodgers is also a fan of Charlie Adam

Personally I think its so difficult for us to speculate who rodgers will sign. We'd all love Ramirez, Muniain, etc. the problem is do they fit into Rodgers system of work rate, and the team being more important than the sum of it's parts, if we'd spoken last summer about signing the players he bought for Swansea everybody would've said no way, Yet here we are lauding the Swansea team and suddenly wishing Joe Allen, sigurdssen etc were Lfc players. I just feel like give the man time and he'll come good...if he can do that well with Swansea and their resources think what he could do with a few bob to spend. Also don't forget the great support he'll have once we start to put a run of wins together, now is not the time to be negative. let's pull together, don't forget who we are.
Greg wilson...

Muniain works his arrrse of for Bilbao. he helps his left back, his center mids and presses well. he plays wide left and is right footed so he can cut in and he also moves about alot as well no doubt that he would thrive in the 433 formation or sometimes known as the 451 which his current club uses.

In answer to the original post

It does not work like you have suggested.

Its easy being a mid table manager its much more difficult to reach the top of the summit.

Resources no matter how big when finite are no match for infinite resources.

Think about it, in any project undertaken the first 80% of it will come quickly however the last 20% is the most difficult.

Mojo

Munian and Suarez are born for Rodgers system of pressing the ball high up the pitch and Ramirez work rate isn't bad either
Munian is the most hard working player I have ever seen he is at kuyts level just better pace dribbler and pretty much everything else

I said a while back I thought Sigurdsson would be a good signing and the overwhelming response was that Shelvey and Suso were better prospects. People don't know who they want until we start showing an interest

Hey Eds, Roma is failing to come to an agreement with Real Madrid over the valuation of Fernando Gago. He is being priced at 7 mil Euro. Do you rate the lad, would he be willing to come etc etc?

Also Ronaldinho has signed for Atletic Mineiro so those ridiculous FIFA 12 style rumours should stop!

why does everybody on this site claim they have sources with liverpool , when im sure nearly none of them dont ( except macca and Eds ) who actually do have some inside info i am getting pretty annoyed by these people , i am going to be honest and say i have no 'sources' in liverpool the only half source thing i have is with lille ( french club ) and thats because my uncle works there as an accountant or something but even he doesnt know what happends much only sometimes he hears things so please people stop saying you have sources

Zincho

And your point is!.

So why do you read them you muppet

Would just like to say i have sauces in every club in the land. From top of the premiership to bottom of the blue square and i'm very proud of the fact. Why wouldn't i shout about it.

Heinz 57.

You do realise saying 'when im sure nearly none of them dont' means you believe they actually do have sources withing the club?

I notice a lot og people giving last years signings a lot of abuse. Yes fair enough they didn't do aswell as we hoped but for many of them the signs are their, henderson is young and showed glimpses, in my opinion adam was class when lucas was fit but when lucas went down defensive frailtys were shown, carroll is class so every one drop it, enriques never had a rest so got tired towards the end but top otherwise. The only player I would consider saying goodbye to is downing as frankly he was abysnal and should be ashamed of how he played last season.So I feel two wingers are a must especially with kuy and maxi (expected) leaving. Unless sterling gets more game time next year which I hope so.

Thanks to eds and macca

Bradders Red ps come on rodgers!!!!

For all those with wishlists for the summer transfer window I would say hold back and lets see what targets are nominated. John Henry and Tom Werner have proven to be shrewd in the way their business is conducted and I would expect the same to continue with hopefully positive results.
Dave..

Shrewd is another word for 'tight'!.

Yeah tight after dishing 100+m out..

No it is not: Shrewd - Characterized by keen awareness, sharp intelligence, and often a sense of the practical. Disposed to artful and cunning practices; tricky. Sharp; penetrating. Where is there any mention of the word tight?

top of the morning lads, found a quote from rodgers in the mirror (eugh, i know) today that i thought all of us should read.

"There are three types of supporters at every club. Number one is those who, no matter who the manager is, they love their club and will love their manager whoever it is," he explained.

"Here, Liverpool is their life and their passion, and that is who they are.

"The second group is those supporters who will accept you but to earn their real respect you will have to be successful - and that's fine by me.

"The third group are the critics, and you never change them. Ever. If you win 4-0 it should have been five, if you win the league you should have won three.

"But I will never worry about that group, because you can never affect them. If you do a good job you are proving them right, but they can't be proved wrong so they will kill you even more."

what group are you in?

JSR LFC JFT96

Very good set of words there Mr Rodgers.
To answer your question mate, i'm somewhere in the middle of the first and second group. I will support whichever manager we have, so long as he shows complete respect for this club and is totally dedicated. I will ALWAYS support this club, but for the managers sake, i always hope he can prove himself, and who doesn't like winning trophies? I hate seeing, more than anything, a manager who flops, and loses support, this is when some of the second group become the third group, which just isn't in me... Unless of course he throws any form of disrespect in the face of this club! Sometimes all we can ask is that the manager shows his passion for the club, and tries new things, then we can all hope and pray for a shift in luck and a few wins. This passion often inspires fans and employers alike, to hang tight, that things will come good, something that football is losing bit by bit...

We have to remember that we too are representative of Liverpool Football Club, and if a manager shows a certain level of respect for this club, and gives his heart and soul to us, regardless of results, we should meet this with the same level of respect and dedication.

To add, in Brendans outlining of the second group, he mentions he has to earn the fans respect, which as far as i'm concerned, he is doing with speeches like this. He seems like the kind of person that will really evolve into one of the real level-headed voices of authority and reason in football, authority mixed with class. Not the petty, snivelling, spiteful mind games that some managers engage in... i think we all know who i'm talking about!

How many Swansea players will be demotivated now that they don't get their move to a big club like Liverpool because of that contract? I'm sure Michele Vorm would love to come to Liverpool as well as Sinclair and Joe Allen. I hope they do well next year but not too well because their prices would be too high!

BthekingB

However, because they're demotivated, they won't play well all season, will get relegated, and will all leave Swansea at the end of next season on the cheap.
At that point why would we want to sign a bunch of under performing players?

Redjinal

Living in swansea ive seen them play this season and agree vorm and allen but sinclair simply not good enough

Only Vorm is good enough for us?

04 Jun 2012 23:33:45
The only problem with the new away kit is its the 4th black strip in 4 seasons

Wozza

Black is a good contrast to all colours really, this is why it's so popular as an away strip with a lot of clubs. But i think it's seen as a good alternative to red especially, together they're said to be fearsome, as they're both very aggressive colours, so i'd say this is another reason behind the black kit.

Red7.

What is the third kit going to be you think? white? but the gold/yellow wont show well with the white..so white with red features?

04 Jun 2012 23:25:57
Agree or not
Liverpool need a proven goal scorer like llorente, soldado, cavani or lavezzi yes Suarez is world class but he can't do it all on his own ( although I still think carrol will come in & Liverpool need a clear out
Henderson
Spearing
Aquaman
Cole
Maxi
Kuyt( already gone )

And I hope BR gives the youngsters ago especially Raheem Sterling

Who agrees?

BiG Cee

Hendo will thrive under Rodgers philosophy IMO.

Tom.

So you hope BR gives the youngsters a go, but you would like Henderson to be sold? What are you?

Rodgers system is made for hend as his movement is first class and it will allow him to make more of those forward runs beyond the opposing teams midfield
He has serious potential but I think he lacks a lot of belief in himself and is scared of his price tag but it was money well spent it is a similar case to lucus

04 Jun 2012 23:24:50
Stop with the Dempsey nonsense. Hes to old at 29, plays is a position we already have cover in and has stated that he wants Champs League.

Valid points but if he's available on the cheap he'd be worthwhile, we lack goalscoring threat from midfield and he'd have guaranteed decent resale value to an American club. He'd be a fine backup if nothing else

Marek Hamsik.,perfect replacement for Gerrard.

Looks like chelsea team will b preety strong nxt season......

Players which lfc shud buy,

Affelay
Isla
Ramirez
Huntelaar
Pedro or muniain(marquee signing,pedro wasnt regular in the playing eleven last year.,mayb a chance)

And,when was d last time liverpool had a genuine right winger ??

AliGerrard

What is this Marquee crap, i've only ever seen "marquee signing" in leagues where there is a salary cap, and one player, or the "marquee player" can be bought and paid whatever salary they demand, which will be exempt from the salary cap. Which would not really make sense in a league with no salary cap...

Red7.

Last genuine right winger was Antonio Nunez lol
Skurks

Last genuine RW was actually Glen Johnson shame he just doesnt want the position.

Just seen some highlights of Denmark vs Australia where Agger marauds his way to win a penalty, and puts it away with aplomb. Just shows what a good player he is...

RedSG

Go on dagger

He also let through quite a few goal scoring chances... but Kjaer was also to blame for that, although Denmark won, Australia created more chances in front of goal. So IMO Agger had a poor game, he looked cranky and disappointed in the other defenders on the pitch which seemed to throw him off his own.

But in saying that, he's generally class, one of the best in the world...

Daniel Agger is a great defender, Benitez really spotted a few gems in his time: Skertl, Agger and Lucas have become very much part of the foundation to our best 11.

Skertl from corners is dangerous and i expect Rodgers to make him even more so.

Agger is excellent at bringing the ball out of defence and brings a steady control to the back line.

Lucas is the terrier of the team, he bites ankles all match and breaks up the attacking play, i'd like to see him develop further under Rodgers with the possession play.

I'm waffling again, um, yeah Agger is top quality.

Why do people put so much store in these meaningless friendlies?

Most of the players clearly are not trying very hard. So any one can either look good or look bad.

How's Kjaer coming along these days? Is he looking like the player we expected him to become?

Len

Agree Agger is quality, but he's like a tampax, in one week, out for three. too injury prone IMO.

04 Jun 2012 23:10:33
Saw news ronaldinho is now a free agent and Brendan rogers considering him to lfc s mid what you think Liverpool kick news is my sourse

Why would you want a player like him at the club. He has more interest in his social life than his football. Would command a rediculous wage package and offer minimal on the pitch. Maybe if he was 10 years younger and was hungry for the game then yeah! But he's been off the boil for years

Chelsea buying Hazard and Hulk and we are looking at Swansea players? We are the laughing stock of English football at the moment.

Rubbish

You are the laughing stock of this site.

Absolute rubbish mate

We USED to be the laughing stock -

How do you know who we are looking at
Under the previous management our targets were soldado Munian susaeta and possibly de Jong to replace kuyt plus maybe a back up midfielder like Diame to allow spearing to leave or even Isla to allow Johnson to leave

04 Jun 2012 22:46:04
Eurosport are printing n interview w/Hazard, who claims Joe Cole helped him make the decision to join Chavski - "I spoke to Joe Cole and what he said above all was that Chelsea was the right club for me," Hazard said.
"As somebody who loves the club himself, he said he could really see me in the shirt, so when I see him next I'll tell him he was right".

I hope Cole doesnt get to play n Red next season - a player of ours, even on loan, is still an ambassador for LFC!

Signing Cole was a joke. Now he is working as a recruiter for Chelsea? Says it all.

I agree with you about being an ambassador but Hazard was never going to come to us without CL. We were never going to pay 33M for him and pay him 140K a week(100K after taxes) like chelsea are. We should be realistic and find players willing to play for the shirt and give 100% to earn a Top 4 spot. We need 3 or 4 pieces to get there and they won't all cost 30M or be as petulant as Hazard.

Chi-Paul

That's dodgy eh... I didn't really want Hazard, but that's not really the point is it...

Red7.

Well seeing as he was never going to come to Liverpool, I'd say Cole's done a great job of stopping him going to United. Some players will never win over the fans no matter what they do

Red Ollie

Joe Cole, what a snake!.

He probably persuaded him that chelsea was the better club to sign for than, say, man u! still think it's such an issue?

He's on more than £140000 a week, after you earn 50grand your taxes goes up to seething like 42%

G BOX

Whats the problem with Cole recomending his former club to a team mate. We were never in the running to sign Hazard so why shouldnt he advise the lad on the biggest and most important choice of his career if not life
TED

Get real guys, Hazard would have had Utd, City or Chelsea as options and Cole suggested Chelsea - he didn't recruit the kid, get a grip! If he was offered to Liverpool at those prices, I don't think we would have taken him!
