Use our rumours form to send us liverpool transfer rumours.

05 Mar 2013 23:44:39
Well, that's a first. 3 posts on the Utd banter not seen the light of day. Everyone is gettind blamed, even Sepp Blatter at Fifa? Roy Keane is no longer a legend because he speaks the truth. Pretty embarrasing stuff to be honest and quite refreshing not to see it on our page for a change.

The Irish Rover

If you are using Roy Keane to judge the severity of a foul then seek professional help.

05 Mar 2013 23:41:15
Their so thick-booing Ronaldo no class, and they reckon he's returning!

So if a player from us forced a transfer away from the club for 2 season then knock us out the champions league he'd not get booed!

Lyndon

Wow, you really have no clue, it's just in jest.

06 Mar 2013 00:40:12
No one actually booed ronaldo mate they were singing his name at the end, they cheered and clapped
Him at the start and booed rhetorically through the game, they even did it to beck ham and arsenal did it to Henry, stop looking for excuses to try slander the mancs CPA it's getting pathetic

06 Mar 2013 08:47:40
It wasn't forced Lyndon. I'm sure United didn't have any problem accepting that £80 million!

He was in the papers every other week talking about his "dream" of playing for Real

Don't have a clue Manc bloke it was not in jest and regardless you lot had to sing our ex Risse song your so unimaginative. And Lyndon (man who never goes to games) The Mancs sing anti LFC songs regardless of game or opposition. Anti Scouse songs despite having Rooney. Their hatred of all things Liverpool in general is a disgrace, LFC fans have been booed down singing about them in Koop since late 80's. At The Milleniumn Stadia Leauge Cup Final our pubs had pro LFC songs, banter lads playing footy. Whilst they burnt effigy s of Lfc fans in Liverpool kits. So until you go and see and hear these things lad-DONT tell those to who do go they cannot enjoy!

05 Mar 2013 23:40:22
Utd fans even had to borrow are song about their fans when they were berating ref. You Know the one-Fergies right your etc. lol Seems even in defeat were on their minds. Alonso after their 2nd superb celebrating in front of them. And even though Red card bang on, Extra pleasure Arbeola involved. Be all our fault to them lol lol

05 Mar 2013 23:38:30
There's only one Sir BOB. DBol

. and only one Howard Webb. Where were you yesterday Mr Webb.

05 Mar 2013 23:29:10
Somebody fetch Fergie his angry trousers!

He might need his angry jumper too ;)

05 Mar 2013 23:04:14
If we beat spurs this weekend. it's on. Arsenal are going to drop more points sooner or later. We still face spurs, chelsea and everton. 3/4 teams above us. I'll admit it'll be tough. We can only afford to drop 2 points from now i'd say. but if we do that. Champions league will happen! no doubt. Any more than 2 dropped. It'll be tough.

I think that we will drop a few points between now and the end of the season, I would love nothing more than for us to win the next 10 games on the bounce but its going to be a tough ask.

Hope they can do it.

We have some tough games, teams fighting for top 4 and relegation. Personally I think we will fall short but only because of previous results. A good end to the season will show we can be in the mix next season though, fingers crossed we can keep Suarez for it.

06 Mar 2013 01:24:17
we don't have a good enough defense to qualify for the CL, maybe with a couple more quality signings next season we can do it! (poss 5th)

05 Mar 2013 22:59:57
i don't no why so many people talk eriksen up he is so hyped up even though he was poor in the euro gotze though is just special its not often I see him play never seen him play bad but if I have he is still amazing u wouldn't notice

I agree on Erikson, i've only watched him 6 or 7 times and i've never understood why he's so highly rated. maybe I just catch him on his bad days.

I watched a few games a while ago after hearing about him and even for a young player he is good at controling the game, great touch and passing, skillful and can hit the target too.
Also much more affordable than gotze as someone mentioned

I guess you didn't watch him turn man city inside out over two legs

06 Mar 2013 01:26:14
problem is loads of top teams think so too!

Yeah gotze is better at the minute but to buy gotze I'd say you would have to pay 35m and for eriksen probably 15m

Eriksen has absolutely blinding games, and then average games every once in a while. Very rarely poor games, stunning high quality consistency for someone his age and if you've seen 6 or 7 bad games from him, you've probably seen every bad game for 18 months. Goetze is recognised as being amazing but he's in a financially sound club with no need of big squad investment, on a very long term contract and he has no wish to be anywhere else. If they decided to hold out for £40, 50 or 60m he wouldn't complain and there would be nothing a bidder could do about it

05 Mar 2013 22:53:56
Can anyone confirm whether or not Fergies head actually exploded at the end of their match?

His left ear just whizzed past me on the east-lancs road.

05 Mar 2013 22:52:39
If we'd had coutinho and sturridge since the start of the season then we would certainly be in a champions league spot and maybe competing for second. This game against tottenham is the most important of the season. Time to show what we can really do.

Anonymous woolback

Time to beat a team above us

Let's not get carried away just yet

05 Mar 2013 22:52:12
Yesssssssssssssssss lol lol lol. Why the t. v Post Mortem? No other club gets excuses made FOR them! Fair play to Keane-Red Card End Of! =dangerous play. Roles reversed what would Taggarts say? Shanks taught respect in Victory and Defeat. Taggarts never understood its why their despised! Now is there going to be any action against Utd fan abusing Mouriniho so openly at the end? What about Ferdinand and others disgraceful behaviour to Ref at the end? Not to mention Taggarts ranting! I think not!, as per! Their songs true-They can do what they want! Unfortunately for them they were against another giant Club of Media Manipulation and Spin. what's Hilarious is Taggart and co. Incandesant with rage. Because basically no Officials stand up to him/them over here. And was great to see. Fairness is all most other fans ask. Their overall Trophy haul be 4/5 Trophies less if they were stood up to by F. A and Officials over here. Ahhh Karma and beauty is ref was right! Though think be funnier if he wasn't!

05 Mar 2013 23:14:30
and when lopez was down something was thrown at him.

05 Mar 2013 23:39:03
I'm a Liverpool fan but what a stupid bitter post, the more years that pass the more
Fickle and
Pathetic our fans seem to become

I threw an Oscar at him for his outstanding time wasting
Scouse_Pride

Where were you yesterday Mr Howard Webb. if you were here Arbeloa would have seen red instead of Nani. lol

05 Mar 2013 22:42:19
Jonjo should during next game, wear a vest saying " it evens itself out in the end mr fergusion". that would be cool

Its even more disrespectful to mispell his name!

Just go with whiskey nose then.

Come on now. For real disrespect it has to be baconface.

05 Mar 2013 22:38:19
Eds and reds,
Are Liverpool looking at these players?
Stefan De Vrij
Kevin Strootman
Christian Eriksen
Wilfried Bony

Really think these players coming in would improve the team by so much. {Ed002's Note - Try the search function.}

Strootman & eriksen 100% not happening

I'd say we will move for de vri and eriksen in the summer. Rodgers doesn't like strikers so you rule out bony. If we were buying a forward he has to be able to rotate like suarez or sturridge. Sanchez or Walcott are the kind of forwards BR seems to like. Strootman would cost a fortune and we don't need a box to box midfielder.

Sorry did I just see Rodgers doesn't like strikers? Is Sturridge a fairy then?

05 Mar 2013 22:38:09
Alright boys, didn't happen to catch your result in the champions league tonight?

Well we're in the same spot you are now when it comes to champions league footy. out of it. I wondered when we get the consolation posts of at least we are in it. that's fine but now your not just the same as us so get used to it

We shall give you the score when we win it 6th time in 4 years while you still can use 3 fingers to show your counting.

Yeah. we're not in it either :)

That's a shame, I didn't mangage to catch your result either, how did it go? LOL

Did you manage to catch how many times we've won it?

We won't catch yours in the next round either mate.

05 Mar 2013 23:17:24
I think that's something our teams have in common, we're not in the Champions League! Not so nice when the tables are turned is it! Haha!

05 Mar 2013 23:40:59
But how is your league and fa cup progression?

06 Mar 2013 02:05:38
Problem is you won't be in it next season either! Whereas chances are Utd will strengthen and have an even better chance to progress further, whatever you lot say about the sending off Utd were still the better team as even mourinho admitted, Liverpool would have been embarrassed by Madrid and you all know it, I'm not expecting any of you to care Utd are out but are you all so bitter that you can't even judge football fairly and accurately? When zenit dumped you out of the Europa I bet you didn't get anywhere near As much stick from Utd fans, it's just a measure of how far Liverpool have slipped in relevance to Utd, the fact is however well you did decades ago on current form you are in no danger of getting to the latter stages of any competition let alone win one! Most delusional fans in world football

Funny isn't it that the last time we played Madrid in the champions league we won 5-0 on agg, yes they have a better team and manager now but you can only beat the team that's put in front of you! Congrats Madrid for winning and progressing to the next round

06 Mar 2013 06:00:45
"are you all so bitter that you can't even judge football fairly and accurately?"

Mr no name, this is an incredibly ironic comment you realise? Considering United get dodgy decisions going their way most weeks, and none of you lot seem to have the capability to judge a match fairly and accurately! Valencia penalty decision anyone? The lad wasn't even touched as the replay showed and he went down like he'd been shot in the face! I don't remember any of your lot coming forward and saying that we deserved to win that game! Very few of us are saying Nani deserved a red card (for being, in general, a whingey little girl, yes, but for the tackle, no), we are just amused that something which is usually your teams speciality has completely bitten you in the ass!

Bitter is the wrong word, we still, after 20 years of not winning the PL, have more trophies than you lot, far rather be us than you. We would be laughing if Stoke fans were complaining that the other team 'played rugby', and they are no threat to us! When that dispicable hypocrite of a manager of yours retires you will have to get used to earning your CL place, and your time will be over. Absolutely can't wait for the complete meltdown of the supporters, who will be of course banging on about history on one hand, and criticising Liverpool supporters for doing the same on the other!

Great night I thought!

Super

05 Mar 2013 22:34:34
All the talk of the red card what about the Madrid goal disallowed or the hand ball on the line.

05 Mar 2013 22:31:34
Haha Arbeloa doing his good work. (I thought the reaction caused the red card)

When nani saw he was going to collide with arbeloa he did appear to move his foot further forward into arbeloa.

05 Mar 2013 22:21:33
Oh, so that's what hapens when a referee doesn't get corrupted at old toilet. They lose!

United biased commentators and pundits slating the ref, he's about the only ref I have seen resist the intimidation of old toilet and every decision was correct. Any other ref there would have been a penalty for united and a red for 5 madrid players.

Hats of to sir ref!

I have respect for ferguson, but that match shocases what happens when the ref isn't on uniteds side, and how much of their success is based on every ref, pundit and member of the FA in the land being a united ar$e licker.

Sir bob paisley never needed a bribed officialowin stuff. And still won more than ferguson in a shorter period of time. And somhow never got knighted?

Anonymous woolback

Well you do have to be in it to win it at least that was your best result of the season

The Ref was UEFA and purple nose isn't sucked off by them.
Scouse_Pride

05 Mar 2013 22:16:47
Roy Keane is winding up all the Utd. fans, players and his old boss tonight.

"In my career I would think 'did I give the referee a chance to send me off?'. If I did, then it is out of my hands. I think that is the right decision. It is irrelevant if Nani meant to do it. He should be aware of the players around him. Does he think that he will have 20 yards to himself?, "

I was laughing hilariously as I know what my Man Utd. friends will be doing watching Keane's comments.

05 Mar 2013 22:54:20
Have give respect to roy as much as I hated him as a player his opinion isn't biased and says it as it is lol

ACHILLES.

Loved the bit where he said about nani not being brave and going down too easily himself! A nice wee dig.

I am a Utd fan and he has his opinion fair play to him at least he has the courage of his convictions, I may not agree but hey ho!

06 Mar 2013 01:35:37
so we are gloating! and why not, we have had to put up with far more from United fans for years, so suck it up, now you know what it tastes like, man up!

05 Mar 2013 22:15:21
This is probably the first time ever that I've not wanted to saw Ronaldo's face off with a blunt knife.

Touch of class there too from the United fans booing him.

If we were to come up against Alonso again, I have no doubt we'd all cheer him more than the Madrid fans.

Anyway, cheers Ronaldo, I think some of us Liverpool fans may have enjoyed watching you tonight.

JFT 96

JP

Just like you cheered torres lol

Torres was completely different he was a player who left the club and bad mouthed us after doing an interveiw months after praising the red!

But u won't come up against alonso because he b retired by time lpool get back up into top flight football haunited99

05 Mar 2013 22:09:20
Man U may have lost tonight (and I'm pleased for Xabi and Alvaro), but you know they'll be back in that competition again next year. I'm wondering when we'll finally win enough games to qualify for Europe. It seems like it is taking forever! I don't know what it will feel like again when that day comes and we're back in Europe!

05 Mar 2013 22:03:04
Ive thought it for a while now, but foreign referees tend to be very neutral at Old Trafford and just ignore the crowd, fergie and any dives the players make. Is it just me but I thought the ref had a good game tonight. Fergie was fuming, which is always nice of course, but the truth is United just didn't deserve to go through. end of. Fergie messed up not playing Rooney from the start, and of course playing a 40 year old in his place.

So much for Fergies treble then, but who cares?

Weve got a young team learning the ropes, our time will surely come.

Tel 1949

Same as for the last 20 years Tel. next year is your year

06 Mar 2013 01:39:59
i am made up your out, chuffed to bits, bitter? you bet I am, I think I and my fellow LFC fans have plenty to be bitter about don't you?

06 Mar 2013 08:54:23
Silly statement. It won't be this season and it wasn't last season. So it'll happen next season! (Fingers crossed)

SKY ("we invented football") TV have airbrushed from history the fact that United didn't win the league for 26 years.
What goes around comes around.

05 Mar 2013 21:50:23
Nani, s red card was more deserved than the one Jonjo got earlier in the year- the old adage "decisions even themselves out during the course of the season"

06 Mar 2013 02:15:53
Lol how are you linking the two? What has shelvey being sent off got to do with nani and vice versa?

05 Mar 2013 21:49:21
I don't think whiskey nose would have said what mouriniho said after the game about the best team lost. He would never say anything like that. Remember johnjo shelvy when he got sent off? He thinks it's one rule for him and another rule for everyone else. What goes around comes around.
YNWA

Remember when we thumped them and Fergie claimed after the game they were the better team, that was a classic denial.

05 Mar 2013 21:48:13
Roy Keane speaking some sense. Red card and Rafael hand ball on the line with his arm above his head should have went too and penalty given.

05 Mar 2013 21:46:24
Well, Mourinho has played his cards tonight. the little walk over to Alex to say he should not have been sent off and then the interview after. ". the best team lost!"

And hopefully they'll consider me at the end of the season! lol. how desperate is he!

05 Mar 2013 21:46:12
lovely evening, life is good. haha

05 Mar 2013 21:46:10
Could somebody pull Morinio's head out of Fergies arse. Anyone else notice how much he kisses his arse?

Its called respect mate.

Mourinho is Portugese for marmite-nose. Fact!

05 Mar 2013 21:46:09
Give that ref a MBE. MATTYLFC

In Istanbul, we won it 5 times.

Read it and weap Fergie!

They have won the champs league twice we have only won it once so why are you gloating for?

Why have we got our own European Cup?
Answer: because they are given to teams who win them 3 consecutive years or teams who win 5 in total.

Champions League is the European Cup under a different name.

05 Mar 2013 21:19:26
even as a Liverpool fan I feel for united supporters

disgusting decision from the ref ruining a perfectly good game of football

tom

The ref had a good game, even though he did miss the Raphael hand ball and penalty decision. United got what they deserved. nowt. Three goals scored tonight all by madrid, tells the story

05 Mar 2013 21:15:59
Haha look at old whiskey nose!
Bout time they had something against them at the theatre of c$nts
Now all we need is is van persie to get crocked.
The only utd game i'm enjoying watching!

With Ferdinand clapping in the refs face at the final whistle, and his sister Vera acting like the little girl I expect him to. And then ol' Gout nose himself giving it large to the ref - they certainly know how to make me laugh!

Brilliant post totally agree great to see Manchester United out no winning the treble talk now eh whisky nose haha

That's because we win most of ours. I enjoy watching most Liverpool games since your so sh*t!

We can talk and all do talk about signings until we're blue in the face! But I just wondered what people's opinions on departures would be this summer. Personally the players I am happy to see leave are

Coates - I like the lad, but he has the pace of a snail and the turning circle of Per Metrsacker. Italy would serve him well.

Andy Carroll - Out the door from the minute BR arrived. Has talent, but lacks the drive and desire to suceed in my view.

Assaidi - I know some will think this is harsh, but I just don't see an end product. He's got good pace, skill and drive but hasn't delivered a good pass or cross in any game I've seen. Isn't on huge wages, so could accept if he stayed.

Suso - Just on loan before anyone jumps down my throat. He needs regularly football, at say a Wigan/Norwich or similar side. He'll make it in the long term, but right now Coutinho offers a lot more end product in his fans.

On the fence

Pepe Reina - I used too and at times even now see a world class keeper in Pep. He's got great all round ability, strong distribution and is a strong leader on and off the pitch. The errors are extremely worrying though and he just doesn't look as confident in one on ones like he used too. Signs of improvement recently, point to him staying in my opinion.

Jonjo Shelvey - Prior to the United game I'd never have considered saying this, but I'm doubting whether Shelvey had a future in our team. The players in his position Coutinho, Allen and Henderson all offer more atm. He still has potential so perhaps a loan is wise, but if an offer around £8 mil came in, I'd seriously consider it.

Martin Skrtel - I honestly can't explain Martin's form this year. He has been prone to spells of poor form in the past, but not so obvious or for long spells. He's perhaps struggling to fit into BR's style, but that surprises me as he does have ability on the ball. I think he's a goner wit plenty of interest still in Russia, Italy etc but I would be said to see him go.

Stuart Downing - I was never a huge fan of SD. I've followed him throughout his career and he always had games where he looked electric. Great pace, delivery, drive and a real end product. But in contast to this, he's had long spells of compete anonymity! We've seen just glimpses of his talent in the last 18 months and despite his resurgence in form, I don't think he's safe yet. I can't help but think if an offer of £10 mil plus came in BR would snap their hands off, as a younger more consistant winger may be in his sites.

Borini - I really like the lad and have have nothing but sympathy for him. Two long term injuries is very hard to bounce back from, especially when you're young and under pressure to deliver. I personally think he can come good, but if Fiorentina place a strong offer, we may consider it.

Any others not mentioned I'm really happy with. Enrique, Henderson, Allen etc all have long term futures in my eyes.

Papa G

Coates, skrtel, Carroll, downing, assaidi. Will all leave.

If 4m came in for shelvey, I'd push him out the door!

05 Mar 2013 20:59:48
ed. what's the situation with nani.
he looks a good player.
pace is fabulous.

now can see some disagree.
coz I just said one UTD player is good

harry scousser
ynwa

Now say it again about van persie!

No, it's because you said Nani is good.

RVP is excellent. Carrick has been brilliant this season. Giggs has been good. Nani, however, has been one of the most inconsistent players of the season.

JFT 96

As long as no-one breathes on him or else he'll fall over dramatically and start shedding tears

Utd. fans booing Ronaldo. don't worry Ronnie boy, Liverpool fans will cheer you as long as you come to Liverpool in the summer!!

05 Mar 2013 19:12:00
Any chance Liverpool could get either cassanoor matri? Both have struggling relationships with their clubs and would likely be made for transfer in the summer. They would add experience, a cheap and effective option up front and are natural goalscorers. Any thoughts?

When I said 'any thoughts?' I was kind of hoping for explained opinions rather than just head on disagrees. Some actual feedback, pleas?

Both not goodenough we need better than

Sturridge wasn't good enough.
Just over a month ago!!

05 Mar 2013 17:37:34
The only thing holding us back from being a champions league side is our lack of depth, as we have shown many times that our 2nd tier side just doesn't have enough to beat even the weakest of sides. All we need are a few quality additions in centre back, on the wing and upfront and we'll be ready to challenge in all the competitions we find ourselves in, and have enough quality to spread throughout them.

I think we shouldn't look for a big squad as this is financially stupid. Give the Kids a chance as they have shown they are easily good enough. Buy quality not quantity.

05 Mar 2013 17:36:17
Good luck to Xabi Alonso tonight, a trademark 50 yarder would be appreciated.

05 Mar 2013 16:49:25
Am I the only person who doesn't want to get rid of Downing? I think it's fair to suggest that we could do with someone more consistent that him starting regularly in his position, however we still need some kind of squad depth if we are to compete in all competitions. Although I think top four this season is a little too optimistic on our part, I am keeping my fingers crossed we may get Europa again next season - we will need experienced players like Downing as back up. He is great when playing well!

Also, why are we talking about buying a replacement for Carra when we have Martin Kelly, a ready made replacement? The lad will be a superb CB for many years to come, and I can forsee him being LFC captain one day.

Super

Martin Kelly is injury prone and I can't remember him playing in the center of the defence for the first team

Kelly is 22 and a little injury prone. He's also only played CB in the youth system, as he has excelled as a FB in the senior side.

We need an experienced and top quality CB.

And Downing is an ok squad player, but if we find a replacement for him, we should sell. He cost too much for a squad player and his wages are too high for that role and what he provides.

I actually have nothing against Downing and I think he does a good job, especially defensively in that inside forward position. Whilst offering little if anything to the attack, he supports the midfield and FB's very well and scores the very occasional goal and provides a rare assist.

I am of the school of thought that it is not the players fault what price we paid for him or what wages we agreed to pay him. However, once you are paid and cost a certain amount, it makes no sense to keep him as a reserve or squad player.

Super,

I totally agree that we should keep Downing as a squad player and posted to that effect a few weeks ago!

Still think we need replacement for Carra as Kelly is too injury prone to be relied on to play a whole season. That said the medical team are doing a great job keeping Agger and Gerrard on the pitch!

We fans have had a turbulent season. Rodgers out! In Rodgers we trust! Downing sucks! Downing is great. But that's how it is. I agree keep Downing a season :)

I would keep Downing to be honest.

Carra started off at cdm then fb so why can't kelly move to cb

He's got to go, wages circa 4 million a season and he does not fit the system, cash in, reinvest in a player on a more suitable wage who is adept at playing the front 3/4 positions

05 Mar 2013 16:28:29
Everyone is mentioning about Dalglish severence pay but the truth be told that this is part and parcel of the fantasy world that is football in western europe.
Benitez, Hodgson all got a nice drink and then if you talk about other clubs. mourinho was extreme from Chelsea yet he still adored there.
Wenger of Arsenal who compensation would be massive due to his contract clause ( if rumours are to be believed).
If their is a lesson here then its to appoint the right person and back him all the way then we wouldn't have high debts and fans scratching their heads and not blaming themselves in contribution of a managers dismisal.

Just a quick question with a lot of if's, but I am not sure what the procedure is if say the Manc's were to win the CL and we finished in 5th place in the league would that mean that we could qualify for a champion league spot as the manc's would qualify as champions, i'm not sure what the rules are, like I said there are a lot of If's involved but what are the rules.

Red Rich {Ed002's Note - No.}

Do you not remember last season where Chelsea finished 6th so only the top three went through to CL?

What happened to Spurs last year then?

They made it clear after 2005 that only 4 teams from any country can qualify, that being the top 4 in England or the top three if won by a club outside the top 4.

There's optimism, there's clutching at straws, and there's complete fantasy. Whatever the rules, you ain't finishing 4th.

Hi Eds and fellow Reds,
I guess this is aimed at Ed002 with his/her expertise on all things financial. Am I taking the wrong message from Ayre's statement to think that our next set of accounts will show a significant decrease in losses? It's just that this current set of accounts (according to his interpretation) seems to show an increase of sorts whilst equally showing a decrease on the previous losses.

That is, it shows an increase of £21.8million in the 10 months between August 1 2011 to May 31 2012 whilst also showing the loss of £40.5million was less than the £49.3million made the previous year. and this entire period does not take into account the deal with Warrior and the associated merchandising. I was just wondering because I trust your financial assement of where we are and whether we are going in the right direction or not. Thanks in advance.

{Ed002's Note - Forget the £21.8 million as that is jst debt placed elsewhere. The losses for the previous year were near identical to the 10 months just announced - £1 million per week throughout the year. The losses for this season will be less but still high, and for next season will be offset by additional TV revenue and tighter controls on spending not funded via sales. If UEFA FFP is relevant to Liverpool there will be a slap on the wrists or strongly worded letter but the club is moving in the right direction to become well placed financially going forward.}

Thanks Ed002 for taking the time to reply and explain. it's really helped me to understand it a little better.

So how far before we get there ed? you say we are moving in the right direction, and the ffp people will see that. so how long do you think before we turn a profit? at the current rate things are going. ?
cheers {Ed002's Note - It is a constantly moving target which all clubs need to try and come in line with. Search FFPR here for a detailed account. Turning a profit is perhaps something that needs to e considered if the target of CL qualification is achieved. A £30M loss becomes all square very quickly if that happens and the owners know that. Success is there to be built upon - and there is nothing but a feeble excuse in mentioning the words "season of transition" at all. I see Liverpool in good shape moving forward. Sadly there are those who are working to push the owners out of the club, and those who have desires just to spend, spend, spend.}

It's sunny in London - is this an omen that Liverpool will produce a late charge up the table and finish 5th?

I have already surrendered to the fact the CL football is unlikely next season, I think we blew our chances against WBA amongst a few other vital games. However, with us playing champagne football, new additions Coutinho and Sturridge proving to be very good buys (in comparison to our recent activity in the transfer markets), and not to forgot, the unbelievably in form Luis Suarez, I feel we can make a very strong finish to the season by securing wins in all of our remaining games. Spurs will be tough, but beatable. The next few months should make for an exciting finish to the season, and looking at Chelseas remaining fixtures, I imagine they will drop a few points! I doubt we'll catch them to be honest but hey, it will make for an exciting finish to the season. Its refreshing to see top players like Lloris come out and say that we are playing some of the best football in the league. I think BR has done a fantastic job. We may not be where we wanted but people forget that he has completely changed how we play football, no easy task. All the best lads!

A quick question Ed if I may. whilst I appreciate the financial figures cover a period where we have had to take a hit on moving on expensive personnel we do still have to find the cash for the stadium development. Although this again will add to our income in the long term the short term cost is likely to be considerable.
With this in mind is it permitted to have a sponsorship deal for the ground.
Given Anfield is an iconic and marketable venue/product could we not have a 5 year deal for say the coca cola sponsored Anfield stadium?
in the same way the FA cup or Grand national are sponsored without loosing their identity, tradition or name?
I'm sure given our current position most fans would see the sence in this.
RNred {Ed001's Note - yes it could be done, there is nothing to stop that happening and it is an avenue that was being looked into. Difficult one though, I doubt they would have got the backing from the majority of fans for it without releasing figures showing the club is losing money.....}

Cheers Ed, for me there is a massive difference between a sponsored Anfield and a renamed ground like emirates, or sports direct.
On the stadium do you have any idea how far off we are from submitting plans?
RNred {Ed001's Note - I don't mate, there have been so many issues and difficulties with it, that it is impossible to be sure. I see Liverpool city council had a delegation looking over the Aviva stadium in Dublin recently. I am not sure why though, might be more to do with helping Everton to get a new stadium to be honest.}

What a great question and reply from Ed001. I think I would have been seriously against a stadium naming rights deal until recently but modern times call for all sorts of changes. and we are a club that must ring in the changes if we are to continue moving forward. Even Barcelona have taken a money yielding shirt sponsorship deal finally.

05 Mar 2013 13:15:24
I see what you did there Ed! haha, do you think FSG could have released these figures to justify a future decision then? Or am I your first gullible victim of a sarcastic comment? ;)

YNWA! (Adam) {Ed001's Note - no, but I think they have waited before setting up any sponsorship deal until they could get the fans backing to do so.}

Coca-cola stadium at Anfield park. Along that lines it could work.

Coca cola Anfield is fine with me. Even the colours match.

And I happen to love both! Now give us that 300mil 5 year sponsorship! Haha

It's incredible to think that the first half of the season produced so few goals. This clearly demonstrates that BR's influence is reaping dividends, as we are now amongst the top scorers in the league! If we can strengthen and tighten up at the back, there is no doubt we will qualify for the Champions League next season. YNWA

The same amount of goals in the last 11 as we got in the previous 22 I believe. by my reckoning that about coincides with the return of Lucas and our other midfielders attacking more.
And only City have more clean sheets this season.

Why is it so incredible-we did not have anyone in the box and we did not have another forward

And though people still have a DOWNER on Downing it also coincides with him playing regularly. Balances the team up, has experience and knows the defensive side of his game.

How about the carlsberg stadium probably the best stadium in the world.

"And whilst some of the club's latest figures, at first glance, appear alarming, they do not take into account the record-breaking kit sponsorship deal with Warrior, nor the scaling down of the club's wage bill during the summer of 2012.

" The Reds would be aided by an increase in broadcasting revenue, as a result of the Premier League's new TV rights deal, which comes into play this summer. It is estimated that clubs will receive an increase of around £20m in television income after the renegotiated, record-breaking, deal. "

I read this online somewhere and was wondering if it is true Eds, especially the part that says clubs will get 20m more from next season. {Ed001's Note - I can't remember the exact amount, but it is somewhere in the region of £20m, yes.}

£30m.

£22.7m domestically, £7.3m overseas.

£30m total.

So much rests on next season, and us qualifying for the lucrative championship league. we have to compete with a good up and coming spurs team, super rich man city and Chelsea, Manchester United will always be up there, then there's arsenal. If they do get taken over my by rich Arabs they may be in the same financial league as city and Chelsea, which will make our task even more difficult. would we need a similar takeover to compete?. Brendan Rodgers really needs to get his summer signings right, there can be no more mistakes. We need real quality, so instead of buying 5 good players, let's get 2-3 quality players.

05 Mar 2013 11:43:03
good point. and see someone disagreed.
Are we not supposed to post our opinion which comes to our mind?
or we should always hear the so called Liverpool life forever people here?

The only difference between me and them probably is that I love my club. the players. and more I love my club to be successfful.
They just love the name Liverpool. no matter what happens on the pitch or off the pitch.

You can love the club and could also disagree with an equally valid opinion. The two are not opposite ideas.

To the first reply. Yes you are entitled to post your opinion. As is everybody. However, why should your view be immune to criticism, when you have just tried to deny people their right to disagree. Forums are essentially networking democracy. Everybody has the right to the freedom of speach, unless they start being rude, derogatory, offensive, or infringe upon the rights of others. Perhaps you'd be better suited to facebook where there is no 'dislike' button? It's just 'Liverpool Banter' mate ;)

would you guys be in favour of a groundshare with you rivals if it meant both clubs would benefit, with extra revenue for players to compete with the big4

The problem is, Everton can't dream of filling a a stadium we would need {Ed001's Note - the main problem is that sharing a stadium reduces income received from it. You have to split the income from sponsorship deals etc. You have to pay out much more to keep the pitch in a usable state and there is little chance of using a stadium for other uses to bring in revenue.}

Or what ed said. thanx for straightening me out {Ed001's Note - that is why it never works, Inter and AC Milan have both spent many years trying to get their own stadium. The fans hate sharing, the teams don't like it and it reduces possible income for both teams. Bayern ended up buying 1860's half of the Allianz Arena due to them being unable to afford their part of the upkeep and nearly folding.}

Everton could easy fill a stadium it would make sense to share neither everton or Liverpool can afford a new stadium Liverpool have had planning permission for how long to build a stadium in stanley park, how many bricks have you laid no work has been done. when we were going to go to kirby the council were horrified at the thought of us leaving the city. niether of us will be serious title contenders or top 4 challengers till we both get a new stadium even you lot can see this. i'm as blue as they come we both have a great past where we both won the league I hate to admit it you ruled england and europe for a decade something the mancs will never do. we would both benefit from a groundshre.

I have always been in favour of a groundshare, why not, we could build the best stadium and facilities in the Country. If we both can't afford to build independently. Then I agree with our Evertonian friend we will both suffer the consequences eventually and fall even further behind, if were not already.

Politics and supporter sentiment aside, could Everton even afford their portion of a ground share? I'm no expert on their finances, but I suspect a ground share that would make sense for us financially would perhaps be out of their budget.

Very good performance the weekend, at a place where we usually struggle too. My only concern was that Wigan still had a few chances but didn't take them. We need to tighten up at the back. can't complain much tho, back to back clean sheets & 9 goals in our last two league matches.

A good strong finish to the season and a realistic finish of 5th

I just can't see us stopping this run of form. sod it 4th? I'm a believer!

Like a poster lower down I watched the u21 game last night, or most of it. In the first half we seemed to be trying something with Shelvey as centre forward. It didn't work and Soton looked to have us very worried especially from corners. In the second Shelvey dropped deeper and we came to completely dominate esecially toward the end of the match. Suso was absolutely terrific, every time he had the ball he seemed to have time, beat his man and set something up. He could have scored two at least. With Adjoran and Texeira the attack looked something like Messi, Iniesta and Gavi. I know this is getting carried away and it was Soton u21 but it is all relative. That is the style they played and their movement was great. Shelvey laid on a great cross for the goal and looked very confident. Others played well too. The only two who looked a bit out of it were Roddan and Morgan, two local lads. Perhaps unfair to comment on one game and they did show real passion.
The more I think back over Suso's game the more exited I become. These players must be on the fringe for next season and we have some more exiting players at younger levels.
Perhaps if we buy some mid to late 20 year old players in the summer we can have an age-balanced squad for the long term.
If you get chance to watch the game marvel at Suso and watch more "youth" games.

That game gave me more optimism than beating Wigan 4-0!

In many respects last night's match was the most hard fought match our under 21s have faced.

Southampton's fast counterattacking style was getting them a lot of success in the first half (even though they only scored one given goal - two were disallowed) but they showed that they were physically only capable of maintaining that for one half and our players came into their own in the second half. I agree that Jonjo moving back to a more Alonso type midfield position helped us a lot and we found balance and dynamic flow when he did so but wealso shouldn't forget that a lot of our player are also missing from the under 21s and so we have even more reason to be happy with the future.

By the way, a player that has truly impressed me this season as he's matured well and shows calm under pressure is Adorjan. having added goals to his game in this current season I can see him going out on loan next season for better experience in more competitive circumstances.

Liverpool's dismissal of Kenny Dalglish as manager cost the club nearly £10m, new accounts reveal.

They paid £9.6m in termination payments in the 10 months to June last year. The club also lost a total of £40.5m in that period and net debt rose by £22m to £87m.

If this is true. then thanks kenny.
One carling cup = the above stats.

Rafa had a better stats than this.

You're wrong. The costs were incurred in the termination of KD's contract as well as that of Damien Comolli and the Head Doc (forgot his name). That's what I read somewhere.

05 Mar 2013 10:49:26
Why is it Kenny's fault? Did he sack himself?
Anyway, I wouldn't begrudge the great man any amount of money. He's done more for our club than Rafa by a million miles.

Merseyswimmer

You have made that sound like Kenny got all that cash, either you never understood the article or your deliberatley trying to cause trouble.
Kennys severance pay was part of that total, which will have included players on big wages and other staff and the like.

I just posted a quote from the newspaper.
Read my post carefully. I am asking you. if its true or false?

I care about Liverpool and all the people you mentioned.
Kenny cares about Liverpool a great deal too.
As well as sarcastically thanking him, incorrectly, for receiving £10m severance pay, you should sarcastically thank him for his service to the club, his compassion for the fans and all the trophies he helped us win.

If you love Liverpool so much I urge you to show better respect to a man who did so much for us. Ask questions about his achievements, not about severance pay.

MANY people were sacked around the same time as Kenny

For instance

Steve Clark
Steve Keen

Doctors
Performance coaches

Reserve team coaches

Damien Commoli

Communication people

So don't jump on the King!

Lily Langtree

There was an article a while back by Tomkins think it was that refuted the notion that KD didn't take the severance package. That said, it was rightfully earned and contractually obligated to him so why would he?

People also tend to overlook the fee paid to Swansea for BR which I think was in the 4M range if I recall correctly. Point being a fair amount of money was spent in the summer on manager and staff transitions which we hopefully will not incur again in the near future.

05 Mar 2013 16:37:30
He genuinley didn't sack himself, or want to leave i'd imagine. So why your trying to imply the serverance pay is his fault is beyond me!

Harry, massive disrespect to the king.

You say Liverpool made these players, but where would Liverpool be history wise if these players hadn't played for us?

Kenny deserves so much more respect than your giving him. Maybe Ed001 is right and modern day fans don't deserve ssomeone as iconic as the king?

05 Mar 2013 16:42:35
Whats the point in blaming Kenny? what's done is done, he is an LFC legend and I want to remember him that way. He stepped in and saved us at a point where we were 12th in the table, and he loves the club as much as we do. He didn't spend wisely, but players didn't replicate their form of their previous clubs, how is that his fault? He is an LFC legend, what happened happened, we are now on the up, club finances are none of our concern, can we stop blaming people and concentrate on enjoying our recent run in form? and the fact that we have the current EPL top scorer playing for us :-D

Cheers guys

Super

Paying to employ them and paying to sack them are two different matters!

More fool FSG for their stupid decision to sack him.
Kenny was already a legend at Celtic when Sir Bob signed him, so Harry is wrong about LFC "making" Kenny what he is.

Ed1 mate as your Liverpool fan what's your take on Ian Ayre interview saying Debt is only the way to run Liverpool for short term (2-3 years) is that a worry mate? {Ed001's Note - no, it is not a worry, it is correct, the club needs to sort itself out and sometimes the only way is to spend money. I believe it is only for the short term and that we will come out of the other side stronger and with a much better financial base. Though I would feel much happier about the future if someone other than Ayre held his position!}

I Cringe so much at Ian Ayres interviews he never answers a question without seeming he doesn't have a clue really and from watching the latest interview about debt he totally avoids the last question which leads me to believe that Brendan will have added significantly to the debt.

Ed you say you would prefer someone else in his position (as would I), but is this something being considered by the club/FSG? As in are we likely to see a replacement in the near future? Say this summer?

Dan. {Ed001's Note - not as far as I am aware, no, sorry.}

The manager as "merely a transient employee" is one costly viewpoint - almost £10 million to pay off Kenny & his management team!
Straight out of the billionaires book of labour relations that one.
The Juicer

Every player and manager, coach or any other job title is always a transient employee of the club. Nobody lasts forever in a position in a football club. If I remember rightly KK didn't take his compensation package. I will happily stand corrected if I'm wrong, maybe one of the Eds or Reds with a better memory can confirm this.

While there were internet rumours that he'd waived his severance pay to fund player purchases, the accounts would seem to suggest that he took the cash. Can't blame him really after everything he's done for the club.

next season we will get into cl spots, this season we lost to many points at home and drew a few we should have won. I can't remember us steeling one single game this year. in summer I think br would want to bring in a cb proberly 2 and a winger with pace. and he will try everything to bring erikson that's the kind of player he needs to play the football he wants. money won't be a problem we will get money in from caroll and skrtl. the youngsters like suso/shelvey/sterling/coady are not ready yet but will only get better and we have some real talent behind them coming ibe/sinclair/mclauglin and a left defender forgot his name. we will be playing for the league in 2 years time we are already better than the league shows + we will only get better. just need to get 3 players this summer that will make a difference.

I don't think even if they DO have best intentions F. s. g can compete Financially. Now if Arsenal become another City, Chavski. How they hell can we compete with top 4 rich list which includes Utd. Can we not attract one of these mega rich Arab groups/whatever. As even if Fenways way IS Commendale (and unsure if is!) We're falling down rich list. You get up that list with Success. We won't get if at least SOME TOP DRAW players join us. For that we need cash and Europe. and Fsg don't appear to have cash to compete. Plan is sensible around our funds but could take years to come to fruition. Top 4 rich will sell mistakes and buy the quality were trying to nurture. Plan maybe good but will take too long

Spurs are above chavski at the moment? And isn't that what the fair play rule does?
