A quick question for all of the Ed's/Reds,
Who is the most under rated Liverpool player that you have ever seen?
I was thinking about this before and think at is is Rob Jones.

Good question and Rob Jones is a good shout but going back a few years I'm going to say Whelan and more recently Finnan

Chris in Tamworth

John Arne riise, was such a massive player for us but just isn't rated or missed.

Ray Houghton, Aldo, Craig Johnston.

Fowler?

FowlerGod,

Arbeloa?

MidlandRed

There will be a few that can be mentioned here. Whelan is a good shout though Chris I liked him also but still prefer RJ.

By the way I forgot to sign the original post.

Stephan henchoz
didi hamann

Got to be Steve Finnan. Fantastic right back.

Rob Jones for sure. He was one of my heroes growing up. I even used to show he hairdresser his picture to try and look like him. By the looks of my hair now I still do.
Tristan

Glen johnson. He aint perfect but a good player. Jdog

Mark Wright anyone ?? Beardsley's Boot's

John scales all day

When you think about it you always hear about the Dalglish and the Gerrard... and even the Fowlers but i'm sure people always forget about our top goal scorer of all time. Ian Rush. What a player that guy was.

FowlerGod.

Just a few from memory, but in no particular order.

Emile Heskey, for all the hate, drama and annoyance, he got the best out of a few players around him and was part of the team that hauled an impressive trophy tally in 1999. I like Heskey because he always stayed positive even through very dry patches, the clown of English footballing strikers for a long time but an effective player in other aspects with 550 games under his belt and over 110 goals and 62 England caps, only 7 goals but he worked hard and helped the team as a priority.

Dominic Matteo was very good for a while and then we sold him, i thought too hastily, he then went to Leeds but i always liked him as he was a youth product and he progressively got better through Championship manager games. :) I suppose he was similar in respects to Kelly.

Jason Mcateer, signed for decent money from Bolton, i always thought we were buying a goal scoring midfielder who could also play on the right flank, but we seemed to get a very combative right back who appeared in shampoo adverts. :) A very important dynamic to the team and was never fully replaced until we got Finnan and then Arbeloa and then Glenn Johnson with Kelly, as the evolution has taken us.

Id agree with chris and say whelan but marcus babbel a close second.

Craig or David Johnston/Johnson for me. More so Craig. Both very good and underrated to the max. JC

Got to be Fowler - to call him God was under-rating him

cozinoz

Jimmy Case but do love Jones, I think he's the best right back we've ever had.

Didi?

luis garcia

Phil Neal, forgotten stalwart

Steve Finnan or Arbeloa. both were great players for us.

K-Man

It has to be Jari Litmannen (spelling), he has to be one of the best forward thinking midfielders with amazing vision of what was going on around him. Many of the squad at that time agreed he was a different class.

IMH

Cant believe no one has mentioned gary mcallister! I have seen some world class players come through LFC in my time but not have made such an instant impact as him. He is exactly the kind of player we need now, older, experienced and hungry for one last shot at success!

Gary's dad

I think it has to be Jan Molby...... could hit a 5p anywhere on the park..never pulled out a 50/50 and yet didn't look the most mobile of players...so he gets my vote on most underated

DJ Dave C

And what about your most over rated ?
I'll start. Jamie Carragher

Hypia and Gary Mac

For me its Skrtle and Harry Kewell.

Without doubt Bruno Cheyrou!!

IMH

In terms of underrated, now if not at the time, would have to be Ray Kennedy. Real legend.

Ginger Rodgers

All of the ones mentioned, with odd exceptions, were absolute greats. Jones, Whelan, Jan, Gary Mac, Sami, Marcus and Didi. My favourites were Didi and Ronnie Whelan. Both did a fantastic job in their positions. Should add Emile, who put up with so much ignorant crap, and set up so many goals while running his heart out. None of them are forgotten, just as Carra and Stevie will never be either.

A good achievement topping the group and something to look forward to after Christmas. I want to congratulate Brendan Rodgers first time in europe and as used lots of different players. Luis can take a deserved rest now and let somebody else do the job on Sunday.

"where would they be without Suarez" they said

"one man team" they said

"henderson becomes LFC's 15th different player to score this season, 3 away from the record of 18 different players" they didn't say

Shak Attack

Who's the 15? Suarez, Shelvey, Gerrard, Henderson, Sahin, Enrique, Agger, Skrtel, Borini, Sterling, Johnson, Wisdom,Coates, and if you count pre-season Morgan & Lucas? Am i right?

i would sign puncheon from southampton this guys a future star now

He's lively but wasteful and he's not as young as what people think.

He was non existent against Liverpool the other weekend. He often shoots from 35 yards+ from goal barely hitting the corner flag.

The only players that wud get a sniff in our team from southampton r Ramirez n lallana. The rest r average at best.

I know Sterling has had a lot of praise heaped on him this season with his performances for Liverpool, and rightly so, but today's game was another illustration that Suso has the potential to be a world class player. His movement, passing, positioning and awareness far exceed his age. We snapped up a huge prospect with him, and with the right coaching he could be an absolute nightmare for teams we play against for years to come.

Hipe we keep hold of him and keep giving him the games to develop, jdog

06 dec 2012 21:54:38
we need some1 hu can put any good crosses bak to net, like the1 sterling cudnt net it and end up goin against him, so listen rodger we need carrol 4 that, forget tiki taka we cant play that stile u r not an enought experience manger to do that, this its one of the reason wen we try to play tikitaka we ends up wif the midfield everywere and conside goal, like the1 di natale missit, so please bring bak carrol forget tikitaka becouse if u dont start havin a run of win u will lost ur job at the end of the season, please bring back carrol, play long ball the same way moyes does wif fallaini, long ball to big lad hold the ball the midfield get organise and and and then tikitaka tikitaka tikitaka and goal.

Let's get rid of Rodgers and bring in either Bruce or Alardyce

If you want Carroll back that's more than enough proof for me that he should be nowhere near our team.

Chris in Tamworth

"tiki taka" [I hate that term] is not something that's going to take 10 games. More like 3 years. Rodgers has said that from day 1. This system may not be super now but in the future it will definitely improve us as a unit.

BthekingB

What the hell did i just read...... im mean seriously besides the absolutely awful grammar your points made no sense. comparing fellani to carroll, he hasnt exactly lit the league alight since his loan move has he!

Bobbinred

Carroll the useless horse can barely run let alone score goals. He's big and stupid so if you aim for his head it might rebound somewhere good otherwise he is completly pointless even existing on a football pitch.

Totally agree with the first poster, also we need to get a new manager. instead of going after managers with lots of potential but little or no top flight experience, we should be doing the same as barca did and get a manager like pep guardiola. OH WAIT!

KUMBER.

It is not tiki-taka it is pass and move, which is our bread and butter.
Scouse_Pride

The first person who posted is not a football or liverpool fan...
carolll?????
long ball...head it and the hold??
have u ever saw caroll holding the ball??
alladyrce is having a nightmare with him...18 mill?
without even his presence they will stay in EPL and they are bound to buy him..
carroll for whom?, suso, shelvey, sterling?

You are pathetic...

06 Dec 2012 21:45:27
Ed...I've just read La Gazzetta dello Sport and they were full of praise for what they describe as team that can play football, technically good and with very promising youngsters. They say we still lack that maturity of the top teams in CL but they conclude Rodgers will take this team far.

I really like what I saw today and I'm glad fans are beginning to recognise that BR is the manager we have lacked for many years...a man with a vision but with strong technical and tactical awareness. Let's hope FSG recognise this by supporting his financially. I really believe that after the first year when they really screwed up with decisions that were simply made from the heart and not from the mind, they are really down to business now.

Just don't sign sturridge for 15m

06 Dec 2012 21:39:39
Celtic go through and suddenly were linked with every Celtic player going. Get a grip everyone, it's championship standard football. It's all well and good putting in a performance of your life every now and again but Celtic couldn't do it week in week out. Their only there by way of a dive, if it had been Suarez the press would have wanted him kicked out of football, but it's ok cos it's the underdog.

06 Dec 2012 23:41:46
i dont know of any championship sides that could beat barca.

07 Dec 2012 01:33:06
That's the point, Celtic upped their game for a one off and suddenly their better than barca. Let's get real, it was their final of finals, a freak result, their star player is an ex derby player that no one else was interested in south of the border. I personally wouldn't want any of their team any where near our squad. To perform in the prem league week in week out is another level.

St johnstone beat celtic the next game. So does that mean st johnstone can beat barcelona?

Listen ya creep credit were its due the is that mark of proper Liverpool fans. Not like you out seems a day by night plasy one with a really had broadband connection. The've put in some tremendous performances and effort. They were unlucky not to get a point of Barcelona away, then one out the few teams to beat one of the best club teams of all time, breaking la liga points total lfor this stage of season in 20years. No team gets results or result against em unless they've got some very talented players. Hooper is a goal scorer who I want to sure about but it seems to me he'd get goals in the Premier League and at a good rate to boot. Wanyama, Watt Forster, Forreste. All players more suited to the Prem rather then the Championship. Maybe not top top clubs bar Wanyama but I'd take three orl four to enrich our squad if I could. The internet h

Give it a rest, give them the credit they deserve. Chelsea didn't qualify from a much easier group. Spl may not be the strongest league in the world, but you can't knock Celtic for that, and I'm not getting at Chelsea either, I'm just using them as an example.

When u park the bus in fron of the goal...anyone can beat any tteam with a bit of luck...
if u noticed the stats...
barca had 86 % of possession against celtic..
24 attempt to goal....
it was not barca day...simple...

No championship sides could beat BARCA? How do you know? Don't make statements that you cannot possibly justify.

Hi ed's, hows tricks with you all? With all these rumours flying around, which to be fair, have little or no substance, who, in your opinion will we realistically be looking at signing? I have looked down the list and you all seem to say 'unlikely...wont be joining...not good enough' so who are the targets?

Thanks and seasons greetings to you all and the rest of the mighty red men on here...!

Neilos {Ed002's Note - It is very clear where the interest is Neilos. A couple of forward players as discussed I think remain the priority.}

Cheers mate, so it looke like walcott, sturridge, huntelaar, honda, butland bent (not who we will sign but on the 'list') and shift some not so good players like doni, downing, carroll, cole etc...I think with some fine tuning and more fluent forward play we will surprise a few people but we do seem a bit predictable going forward! do you agree?

my summary of tonights game

reina; a player i think need to play well and did but his ball distrubution wasnt on par with his normal ability. enrique; played really well a few needless fowls but other than that was ok. skyrtel; immense truly liverpools best defender by a country mile this season. carra; played really well but allowed his marker to get a clear header from a corner which he will be livid about. johnson; again played well but to be critical i think he passed a ball a few times and stood still besides running on to receive it again. sahin not on long enough to judge him. joe allen; kept the ball ticking over a few rash challenges but overall solid. downing; was in and out of the game but he does need to influence a game more cause i think he has the ability to do it. suso; for me not his best game gave the ball away a bit which is very unlike him had a couple of chances which he snatched at. henderson; played really well take the goal out of it even, he just seems to be finding his feet the more he plays. suarez; played really well as usual but to be critical fouled his man on a few occasions running on to balls when he had him if hed just pressurised him. shelvey; did really well after coming in early for sahin. sterling; again did well after coming on but im amazed at his strength holding up the ball for such a little lad.
just my thoughts feel free to pick the bones out of it.

Instead of slaughtering players and saying who isn't fit to play for Liverpool, I would like to give some reasons to be cheerful;

1) We're through to the next round of a european competition, and qualified in 1st place in what was one of the strongest groups in the Europa League.

2) We are looking defensively solid, and could further improve if Lucas stays fit.

3) Our academy is improving year on year.

El Pi**edolero

P.s make sure everyone buys 'He ain't Heavy, He's my Brother.' We must make it Xmas Number 1.

Definitely not the strongest group.

06 Dec 2012 20:54:30
dont Liverpool love games with more twists nd drama then eastender....my heart was in my mouth for last few seconds but another win nd we are through...couple of thoughts ...downing nd Enrique never works well as downing spends most some walking nd watching game then trying to place himself nd only had 2-3 decent runs in game..I recon ref worked harder then him....suso is going to be better nd he needs to play in little more central behind striker....Did see few forward runs by Allen nd he needs holding player behind nd will come good...Shelvey faded with game but maybe he was told to stay back...he doesn't seem to have much pace hence again he is more of impact player then 90 minutes....we have too many attacking midfielders who doesn't seem to keen on defending nd I would defo look for another holding player like Lucas....again Suarez needs another striker to take burden off him...sterling seems to cut in little more then needed but every game will add to his improvement ....hard game on Sunday but am sure we will come good...

Fantastic performance by Liverpool tonight. In particular Henderson made up for the lad.

06 Dec 2012 20:44:17
Henderson was a beast today! One of the best players on the pitch!

Allen, Skrtel and Carra were also class

Good win and topped the group, really pleased!

Shak Attack

Allen was poor.. His passes were not up to the mark. 5-10 yards passes weren't a problem, but forward passes, went strayed a lot..
But overall throughout this season he has been good.

Eds,

Any chance on Alonso return ? speculated upon in the papers and wanted to know what the deal is ?

As for the Inevitable stop living in the past comments - Anyone who thinks Alonso returning would be moving backwards needs to have a word with themselves.

Jus a quick one really, I know he gettin on & I know he probably very comfortable we're he is but think might b worth a little punt on di natale, now I'm probs gunma get slated for suggestin this & by in no way think it wud happen but I really believe it would be a good solution, I think most people would agree that Suarez is an unbelievable player & he seems to hav proved a lot of critics wrong by scoring goals through the middle but the burden on him is enormous & some one with the lets call it 'experience' of di natale who can't play week in week out for 90 mins would personally b a blessing inu opinion! Wot u think EDs?

Superb player shame we wont be looking at him

He is 34

06 Dec 2012 20:33:07
Daniel Sturridge: Not a bad price for a young English player with bags of potential! If he becomes good we could either keep him or sell him for at least double! So he's selfish? Is that not what u want in a striker? Shows confidence and I for one will welcome him with open arms! That's if he comes, with half the fans on this page why would you want to come to a club where you're not supported? {Ed002's Note -

Relies on pace...recent hamstring trouble...risky...

Daniel sturridge will be a good move in my opinion but not necessarily for goals. Although he is far better than anyone we have playing RW at the moment. Although sterling has been epic this season we can depend on him as he's still to young. So Brendan seriously needs to start using Assaidi more and borini when he comes back from injury. So we really only need one forward unless sterling decides to leave then we could take advantage of Walcotts situation at arsenal.

06 Dec 2012 20:18:22
Good win, Suso has a great future at LFC, downing was poor as usual offering nothing apart from one cross. Allen infective player IMO still trying to see why we paid £15m for a player who doesn't really have much other than a od short pass.

Role on the next stages to bring on more youth players. Our thin/weak squad will be tested next round.

Actually Suso played awful and Allen was class and was the reason we dominated the midfiield

Shak Attack

Ps i do also think Suso is going to be a great player

Agree with comments on Suso and Downing but not Joe Allen.

Joe Allen was very good today...I really can't understand why he gets a lot of stick. He'll never be a Steven Gerrard but he's very good at what he does best...distribute play from a defensive midfield position.

06 Dec 2012 20:15:14
Not particularly Liverpool related but how good is the German youth system? My dad spent a lot of time in Brazil and so is a Brazil fan, I support England despite being named after a certain famous Brazilian footballer yet one thing we both always agree on is that the Germans are and always seem to be a force to be reckoned with in international football.

They breed every crop of footballer you can think of, constant progression of their domestic league strengthens the national team as many players play together at club level (Lahm, Boateng and Badstuber at the back for example) and the clubs themselves are run brilliantly.

I think England have a long way to catch up but I'm confident well get there, especially with the new St George's football centre (despite being about 10 years behind Holland, Germany, Spain etc) hopefully bringing some quality players into the mix. But one thing were also certain on, is there will only ever be one Steven Gerrard.

mozzilfc

Ahoy - what Brazilian Footballer are you named after ?

Hopefully its Valdir Peres - he was the last sticker I needed to finish Espana 82 Panini Sticker Album.

Hi I'm a toon fan and I've heard from a guy who works at st James park that apparently you lot are nailed on to sign Ba if we can lure Hooper or llallana to us!

Saying it's pretty much a done deal!

Ba won't be coming to Lfc in January.

He has no loyalty, he is any injury risk & wouldn't fit BR's
System.

Job done! What a relief - not helped by wastefulness in front of their goal, or else we would have been out of sight by the hour. Still kudos to the lads - Suso and Hendo were excellent, but how good was Skrtel?! Definitely my MOTM. Bring on the hammers!

Skrtel was really outstanding today. He is My MOTM too followed by Allen and Henderson.

Thank God we won..this match put me on the edge of my seat throughout..why can't rodgers just bring in a center back when we are defending a lead..everytime always an attacker.sterling wasn't even needed in this game..

06 Dec 2012 23:34:45
Don't think that's his style and how often under Rafa, did people moan when he shut up shop! Can't win can you, although I would have been happier if we had scored a second, but we're through and that's the main thing, especially topping th group too. Oh and Suarez didn't score the only goal of the game, that has to be a good thing!
Bring on West Ham even without our talisman!

06 Dec 2012 20:06:30
I just want to say Glen Johnson was absolutely brilliant tonight!

I've always been with the notion that he should have been a right winger rather than a right back. He made run after run tonight! Was always looking to take players on and or try and run past them. And the little shimmy he did between the 2 defenders was breathtaking, shame he had a heavy touch at the end.

He gives us width, pace and options!

The guy is even becoming into our best left back for goodness sake! When Kelly gets fit and back into the team, I for one really hope Brendan decides to play Kelly at right back and Glen just in front of him!

United Kolours Of Bennetton

Ps, I see that Di Natale likes to give attempted heart attacks to people! That was too close for my liking and was so not good for my heart right there at the end!

I had been thinking of posting this from last few games but somehow your praise for GJ made it the right moment for it!...Everytime I watch GJ playing I get disheartened bcoz he doesnt justifies his potential with end-product...Defensively we all know most of the times he is found on wrong side of forwards or end up catching them...Attacking wise he will produce a moment of magic every now and then but very inconsistent...he tries shimmies but more often than not is caught out by defenders..I will prefer Kelly any day...and considering he is on such high wages makes it even more depressing...I agree about his runs and his partnership with sterling and all the noises that we are attacking from right side only...but thats because we wont have suitable winger for left side...remember the games when enrique has played on LW...was GJ even mentioned in those matches..I have always been amazed that he is England International and being considered one of better players at Liverpool!

Eds do you know if Henderson is being developed into a specialist midfield role(attacking/defensive)? At the moment he plays like neither, nor is he looking like a traditional box to box CM.

Keith YNWA {Ed002's Note - You may be reading too much in to the secret plans. Henderson was a player bought by Liverpool when a great deal was expected of him. For me he remains a guy still growing in to his football persona. Obvisously I see a lot of posts from the expert "supporters" who very quickly decided he was the sort of deadwood trash the club needs to move on. I see an asset still growing - many posters see something entirely different based on unrealistic expectations. There is near zero point my giving a view over such players as it does nothing but draw abuse. I know in the summer the club were willing to let him mnove on, but I suspect now they would be less keen to do so.}

Ed002 i have to agree with you , he is not the finished article and he can become a very good player , he has shown glimpses of what he can do , for me its down to the management to have faith in him to plsy higher up , plus the lad has hardly played in his original position

mickey b

Spot on Ed002 as usual.

I've said it here before - Henderson reminds me of Ronny Whelan, he just needs to build his confidence up.
Digger

Wish you would stop seeing players as assets ed2 {Ed002's Note - Sure - you just keep seeing him as deadwood like so many of the disrespectful fans.}

06 Dec 2012 19:42:22
Not having a dig or go but what is the role of Allen? He passes sideways and backwards, he offers little going forward or back, and is not od at tackling?

I know he is a BR favourite but when Lucas is fully it he shouldn't be a starter (sure he will as he's undropable under his best mate).

Lucas + Allen = Masch + Alonso... Or hopefully build their own special chemistry.. Let them be.

He is playing out of position at the moment, his tackling and interceptions, his pressing and general workrate are fantastic still. He is so composed on the ball and his passing is sensible for a cdm, he drops 90%+ passing every game. It's so good we notice clearly the 2 he gives away and gets slaughtered for it. He is young and has a wonderful attitude. When he's further forward which he will now Lucas is back, he can create and score goals like he did at Swansea. He was a hot target for many teams in the summer and we are lucky to have him.

This is why you are not a football manager

He was class today

Shak Attack

What joe allen does is show for the ball all the time to keep the movement ticking. for too long we lacked a player that will take responsibility in midfield now we have one u moan again, no pleasing some. when lucas is fit lucas will slot into the allen role and allow lucas do the interlinking a bit higher up the pitch ther not like for like, but i do love a player that gets a foot in which both do.

...and that is why BR is a manager and you're not.

06 Dec 2012 21:30:14
I thought Allen as the HOLDING MIDFIELDER did very well tonight! We controlled a potentially trickey away game in europe very well tonight and got the result to go through. Proving at this early stage (in our progress) that we can win a game when we have to!
I really wish that some of you so called Liverpool fans would actually at some point lighten up and give credit where's credits due and realise what this manager and players are doing with the situation that they've been given.
When we get one or two more in yous will see!

Reading some posts you'd thought we'd gone out. Some fans really need to get their head outa their bottom and get behind the manager and the team!

At the moment we're literally one or two away from pushing in the league and turning draws into wins. Plus in 18 months we're gonna be a class act!

Some need to get a grip!

Back mid Jan. It was answered earlier today.

If Liverpool can get through tonight and i know its a big if, i wonder what the chances are of us drawing Chelsea at some point. A European game against Chelsea (albeit less glamorous than some previous encounters) with Rafa in the other dugout. It would have been unthinkable 5 years ago.

always a red {Ed002's Note - Math wise it is easy to figure out the chances.}

Ed002 - loving it!

Who ever we sign in January they need to be backed and supported by us it's only fair! Sturridge isn't to everyone's preference(including mine) but let's stop slagging everyone off for know real reason it's silly you've all got an opinion of course but let's be fair.

Downing instead of Assaidi, Carra instead of Coates, Reina instead of Jones. Don't agree: Coates,Assaidi and Jones should all be playing.
kidmillions

Agree in all but Jones. He never looks confident. Don't think BR rates Coates, and he clearly has no confidence in Ossaidi.

Only agree with you on assaidi

FowlerGod.

Why Jones?

~Fresh

Downing has had a huge hand in our Europa League results so far with 2 goals and 3 assists, he deserves this game

Does anyone know what has gone wrong between Coates/Rodgers? Earlier in the season he was clearly the #1 choice off the bench ahead of Carragher. Now it seems to be totally the other way.

Lee

This ain't fantasy football. Rodgers had to pick a team he thinks will do a job for him. Kidmillons why don't you get a JOB instead of replying to nigh on every post.

06 Dec 2012 20:17:24
Have to say that going to Italy has never been easy for us so ,I am glad he took a wee bit of experience Carra is still able to keep the line organised and without Stevie G we needed a leader.
I love Assaidi but it looks like hr has gone for a more defensive line up.

Have to say in a possession game I would go for Pepe all day.
Cheers Kid

Kobi

Coates, Assaidi and Reina for me

In the absence of Gerrard, Carra almost always comes in as captain for the night.

hI edS,
I have posted a couple of times asking who do you think would be a good signing for Liverpool, a player not mentioned,(if there is a player who has not been mentioned on the site) but no reply. I am curious as to who you fancy to do a job.

Regards {Ed052's Note - I have repeatedly said that this window, if any player were to come in, Waloctt is the one for me this Christmas}

Walcott all the way, he is really all we need!

Zarate and Huntelaar for a combined fee 16 million will do me better.

Jonesred

Walcott and huntellar for about 14 million.

06 Dec 2012 19:00:33
Zarate........why?

06 Dec 2012 20:17:44
Oh my lord, knock out of over Zarate. He's not good enough for us, his form has been average for a long time. Rest assured he's not on Liverpool's agenda thank god.

06 Dec 2012 16:32:10
Why all the craze about Butland? A few good performances in the Olympics but still a very rough diamond, at his age he needs games not benching so I don't understand the rumours, Reina hasn't had the best of performances in these last 2 years or so but he is still a top top class goalie, and if he left we would regret it massively, even if we got a goalie such as Ter Stegen, who I rate very highly, we wouldn't have that experienced commanding figure between the sticks. Just my opinion lads.

mozzilfc

Would rather prefer one of the two in demand german keepers. Butland is still 19, n nowhere good enough to replace Reina. We need a first choice keeper, not an understudy to jones.
Indian Buzzer

Because he's English? I bet that's why you think he isn't good enough, look at Joe hart when he first went on loan to Birmingham nobody thought he would be the player he is your seeing the price not the player matey.

ACMD RED

ACMD, he's only 20+ and not playing at the higher standard (yet) of the 2 German keepers, plus how good will our back 4 communicate with a 20 year old commanding them with no prem experience as of yet? Being English isn't the problem, if we bought him as a direct replacement for Reina, it would be a baptism of fire and could potentially damage the guy for good.

mozzilfc

06 Dec 2012 16:26:02
Liverpool is going to make the same mistakes as they always do by paying over the odds for under performing players {Ed052's Note - Such as?}

Common ed....
u want examples??
caroll, henderson, allen, boroni, adam, and the biggest..the most powerful...downing..
anymore needed?? {Ed002's Note - I rathger suspect he was talking about examples of "under performing players" who are to be bought.}

Steward downing, charlie adam, andy carrol, joe allen, jordan henderson and fabio borini do you want anymore ed 52. {Ed052's Note - Erm, mate. Charlie Adam gave 110%, and just didn't work out. Not really a flop. Allen is a star, and without him we would have fallen to pieces. Borini has played, what, 11 times, how can you judge. i actual;ly think he has started well. He drags players away, decent finish etc. Hendo is young, playing more, and getting better under BR. Downing, although way over priced has at least done a job for us in a number of positions, and has improved under BR. ANdy, the in defensible. And as ED002 points out, I was talking of ''under achieving players'' that the first poster seemed so clued up that we were signing.}

Agree about Henderson ed, he's coming good, slowly but surely, just needs to score that oppertunities for goals that presents itself to him every once and a while!!

I think also ed that it's worth mentioning that borini played with a broken foot for nearly 3 weeks, bit unfair to judge him.

Nevada {Ed052's Note - Yes amte. i'm sure he will get back to his best when he returns}

06 Dec 2012 16:18:36
Hi eds i have overheard Br planning to bring back alonso do you think this will happen

Not gonna happen. Too similar to allen imo. I would go for a strong physical defensive midfielder like diame or m'vila as cover for lucas. Dont think the other midfield areas need addressing. Most of the budget however should be reserved for two quality forwards (sincerely hope not sturridge).

everybody moaning about us going for sturidge saying id rather have this and that,we all would at the end of the day but its time to be realistic, sturidge is available at a price we can probably afford hes scored a few goals and that is playing out of position i personally think with the right guidance and playing in a central position hed be a good buy hes still only young and hes got the pace we need....if we all new better than the manager wed be managing liverpool BUT were not.....people moaning about players coming before theyve even kicked a ball for us we cant pick and choose the best in the world anymore FACT.

Whatever..15 mill is overpaid for sturridge...simple as that..

No one has said the price is 15m and either way its not as simple as what gets paid a club like us wont pay the full ammount up front it gets spread over the contract i think the price i ahve been told is closer to 12m and either way why does price bother you so much? its not you pocket it is coming out of and where are you credentials to say how much a player is worth? please tell me who you would buy for the 12-15m who is willing to come to uss on affordable wages?

Want to get a bit of banter going on this if you guys don't mind. So if we qualify tonight for the final 32 in the Europa league in 2nd place (which looks most likely at best) we will be unseeded. The top 4 of the 8 CL 3rd placed finishers will be seeded. Chelsea will be seeded. How great would it be to draw Rafa's Chelsea in Dec 20th draw for a Feb 14th Home fixture. Will Rafa still be there? Will Torres be there? Will Sturridge be with us? What do you guys think or would you prefer CLuj, Atletico, Benfica or a Lazio type team.

Chi-Paul {Ed002's Note - Liverpool cannot be drawn against Chelsea in the round of 32 Ch-Paul.}

Ed02, Its that because of the country rule or is it something else. I thought it was and open draw with 16 seeded vs 16 unseeded with the unseeded team home first and away 2nd. Chi-Paul {Ed002's Note - Clubs cannot be drawn against teams form the same association or from the same group in the previous round. When it gets down to the round of 16 those provisions are dropped.}

Cheers Ed. Makes sense i guess.

Ed's, any interest in fernando artisteguieta? he's strong, fast, creative and would be a great partnering with suarez. what are your thoughts? {Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware.}

Looks the real deal, but the problem us English clubs have is trying to gain a work permit and co-ownership issues, so i doubt it we will get him but no doubt he will end up in Italy probably at Napoli and will be a star.

Hi eds. great site .... I hear that Messi really wants to sacrifice his career and pour all of his efforts in to Liverpool as it is a club he has always loved and plans to bring macherano back with him and is mates with Alonso who said he will also come back. Is this all 100% true? I mean you must know right? One of you? Oh and we are spending that 40 million we don't have on a weak bid for the over rated Cavani? And is Gerrard going to get us 15 goals this season? Just say yes!
Sorry for the mockery, it's not directed at you- clearly. I read the site regularly and value you views. So I ask, do you think the vision of Rodgers is to create an interchangeable front 3? So the likes of Walcott, Sturridge with Suarez and Borini, Sterling and Suso would make an offensive group of players that can be seemlessly switched? Cheers shaheen47

Utterly pathetic post. Which players are these then?

Jack

Sturridge.man why can't we go for a dissent player, we pay top money for midiorca players. Carroll, downing,Henderson,Adam. And BR now with borini Allen and now sturridge, oh I forgot borini was an exiting player, we are a joke

Right:

Allen - Has only had one game in his preferred position, been playing more defensively due to the injury to Lucas. Judge him when he's had chance to prove himself in his favoured position i.e. pushing further forward making incisive passes.

Borini - The lad was hardly with us when he got injured. Why don't you wind your neck in and stop being so unsupportive to a young lad who has great talent and simply needs to adjust to the PL? No wonder some players lack confidence with people like you baying for their heads before they've even had half a season on the pitch.

Sturridge - Realistic target, our funds and current predicament in table position mean we probably have to accept that AT PRESENT we won't be attracting the world's greatest, due to money and their wanting of CL football. I'm sure if Sturridge bagged 10 you'd be back on this site claiming you were 'one of the few who knew he'd come good.' If you have a few million then why don't you write a nice cheque and get us Cavani? Otherwise stop moaning and give the players the support they deserve when they pull on that red shirt.

JFT 96

JP {E

Its because we are rebuilding and not a top club anymore , and after tonight we might not even be in europe any more , thats why we cant buy any top players or do you watch a different team

End of day as fans we are not in control of any of this so if it offends you that much support someone else. Man City and Chelsea have fan bases made up of 50% glory supporters get involved with that : )

Jeese, the troll patrol are out in force today. We are through to the last 32 by the way, topped the group and are therefore seeded and have key players rested for the weekend. Shocking stuff. Someone has to pay. What a joke we are.

Andy K

JUst to add to the above pathetic post!

Look at Dortmund! It's about buildings a world class team not buying over priced persons who bring no fight or class to your club.

BR is the right guy and will just take a few years to turn the club around and fighting each year for the league and champions league in a style of football we will all be proud to watch!

So its the final group game against Udinese tonight win, lose or draw the whole Europa League experience has no doubt helped many of the youngsters. Player like Flanagan, Coady, Wisdom and Suso have all had game time which they wouldn't have. And fringe players have had a chance to impress, if Liverpool get knocked out to night (not that i think they will) its not the end of the world. There's no harm in being disappointed after a loss but no need to over react by calling for the managers head, or getting rid of certain players.

As expected in the run up to January there are lots of names being linked with the club, the big question is would Huntelaar or Sturridge solve our striking problems, personally i don't think they would. There's no denying Huntelaar is doing fantastic in Germany but he has had two big moves in his career and failed to live up to expectations both times, many good players have failed at Real and Milan but he just seems like a risk. As for Sturridge he is a talented footballer but has a lot of negatives to his game, mainly he is far too reluctant to pass the ball, in Rodgers system and way of playing there isn't room for selfish players. Llorente would be fantastic but i'd imagine there will be a lot of clubs scrambling for his signature, it would take some persuading and fantastic negotiating but quiet frankly i wouldn't expect Ian Ayre to pull it off, especially after the Dempsey fiasco. Personally i think Gomis should be the main target, but no mater who the manager brings in i'll support him like all fans of this great club should.

always a red

Only problem is we don't get the right results and end up playing our senior players in an away leg just days before a very important league game. For me it's a no brainer use the competition to give the young lads and fringe players a game? But stick with them no matter what and don't let this competition be responsible in any way for us dropping more league points.
kidmillions

IMO the club should go all out to persuade walcott to join. Perfect foil for suarez. Two interchanging forwards is oerfect for our system. Bit like messi n pedro at barca.

A little creativity exercise. With people on here talking about Xabi coming back,it got me thinking. Who is "the one that got away"?
Like with ex girlfriends, theres always someone you look at,and think fondly of.
I'd imagine that most will say Xabi,as not too many players have left Liverpool and gone on to do well, and those that have left under a cloud(Torres,Masch).
Anyway,i always thought that Riera was good, any idea's why he was sold? And Likewise with Gonzalez, i thought he was tidy.
Thoughts>?
WelshBoyDave

He fell out big time with Benitez and caused quite some disharmony when blabbing in house stuff out house to the press.

Rafa sold him to solve the problem.

Arbeloa could have had a good career for us and I do have a soft spot for luis Garcia!

SideShowBob

Anelka he should have been signed all day long . Instead we go for diouf ? ............ Exactly . Cheers

Riera, was a training ground fight I believe? Rafa wasn't one to take disruption, so got rid as soon as he could.

It was a shame for Riera, he had a lot of talent and confidence. But unfortunately he had to beat the same man twice or three times, as he had the pace of my nan.

The main one who got away for me, was Dirk Kuyt. It may seem very recent, but I think he's exactly what we've been missing in a few games this season. His strengh, mentality and work rate more than made up for his weaknesses. He also scored vital goals and is a great role model for the younger squad members.

We got great money for Xabi, Masch (considering his attitude) and Torres. Yes it's a shame to see those players go, but you can't fully blame them.

I agree he soo skillful but injuries caused him to be overlooked i think and so he got frustrated.

oh the weather outside is frightful, but his passing is sooo delightful, everyone wants to know Alonso Alonso Alonso!
i know the reports are probably a load of rubbish but it is xmas...we can all dream!
I85

Try the same song with a talented liverpool player like suso, suso, suso, he can be the alonso all day long .

06 Dec 2012 13:23:41
Suso doesn't really fit mate. You need a player whose name has 3 syllables.

Flanagan, Carragher, Enrique, Robinson, Assaidi.

Alonso is perfect though as not only does he have 3 syllables, he also rhymes with snow!

hello eds..

i see we have been rumored to honda this morning, hope this is true. but my question is are we intrested to bring in asian player cos standard charter wanted us to sign a big asian name. alex ferguson did it with park and now kagawa, it can also expolaite the asian market..do u know if we are looking for an asian player? or not?

thanks {Ed002's Note - Standard Chartered do not define the transfer policy.}

I bet they do!!!

If the player is good enough and would add something to the squad I don't see why not. Currently living in Japan I can also testify that people become MU fans just because of Kagawa. Football is becoming more and more popular here.
I personally think Honda would be a great signing and not just because of footballing reasons!

Just to clarify....Warrior Sports makes the money off shirt sales, not Liverpool Football Club.

on bbc sports there rumors of everton and Liverpool battling it out over him is this true or just a rumour personally id love to get butland now before anyone else gets him

I think we should buy him as an understudy to Reina, he would jump at the chance to be understudy with him getting the cup games.

Hello Eds,

Many people state who they want us to bring in... but who would you personally and realistically love us to bring in?

I personally would love if we could bring either sturridge or walcott. and maybe a younger keeper like Butland. {Ed002's Note - I would think that brining in Huntelaar, if that were possible, would provide more goals than brining in Sturridge, although there an approach has actually be made for him.}

Just read the latest rumour about Alonso coming. Now on here I read rumours some of which are unbelievable...Cavani, Lavezzi, Villa, Sanchez ect..all would you'd presume want instant CL football, be challenging instantly at the top and would also like massive wages...Now the Alonso one has legs.

Xabi gave an interview last year to LFCTV saying he would one day love to come back. His words. He left Liverpool as he felt aggrieved when Rafa sold him. There was no animosity towards the club or fans from him or even towards Rafa. He regularly attends homes games a guests of the club and still has friends at the club...Reina Gerrard Carra Lucas..ect

It was also Alonso who persuaded Sahin to join ahead of Arsenal and citited how special the club and fans where and how he was treated as one of us when he lived here. All I'm saying is don't instantly dismiss this rumour as I have felt all season we are just lacking a old head at times (Gerrard apart) some experience which imagine Suso Allen & Shelvey getting the experinece of playing with Alonso...Given that he'd be 31 and on a free I'm sure (if Ian Ayre doesn't b******* it up like!) we could afford to pay him a good wage. He'd be worth it...

Just a thought..

Richie {Ed002's Note - Alonso will not be "on a free".}

Ed doesn't his contract run out this season

Thanks
KopEndDannyLFC {Ed002's Note - No Danny, Summer of 2014.}

More likely axbi will be back as a coaching role not playing (once career is over)?.

I would take him, anyday, anytime and any place..
and if people think its going backwards..then lets all go backwards and see when we actually where in CL...

Sources in Spain have said .... There is no truth what so ever in the rumours about Xabi alonso going back to Liverpool ..... So can we please stop going on n on about it now.....

If you can get someone of Xabi's quality, regardless of age [he hasn't lost his ability has he? And he's never seemed like losing it] Then you jump through hoops of fire to get him! He's world class and we need to add more world class players into our team. If he wants to come, get him. He'll be quite cheap as he'd only have 1 year left on his contract [he won't leave in January]

Sturridge to join for 12 million Walcott bid to be submitted 6 milion up to him to accept our contract tom ince for 5 million also few youngsters to be brought in downing to join Stoke Gulasci to be sold Henderson to be shipped out on loan maybe Coates too ashe has fallen out of favour with BR

No point what so ever sending henderson out on loan

sell him rather

We cannot afford to loan out any more expensive players. We need the cash to rebuild. If we get around 8 million for him, we cud sign a decent cdm as cover for lucas.

Hi ed's and fellow red fans, not much of rumours
Just thoughts really. Just finished work, flicking
Through usual sights etc on rumours, the names
That seem to be constantly hitting the rumour mill
Are as follows:
Huntlaar
Sturrage
Walcott
Alonso
But I was wondering, has he fallen off the planet
As at one time Kaka was an amazing player
And now he doesn't seem to get heard about
At all. I personally think he would be a great
Loan signing (maybe with a look to full contract
At the end of the season depending on wages) he
Would certainly ease the burdon off Suarez of a 1 man playmaker system, and would certainly give opposition defenders a few new things to worry about.
Also I would like to see Morgan moved up to the first team squad and travel with the team, getting given 5-10 minutes here and there to help his development, if we can't do that, then loan him to Blackpool with Ince who he can learn quickly off, otherwise I feel we will see a few youngsters look to make permanent moves away to get first team football, and we will then wish we had given them the chances they fully deserve.
Yes alonso is linked again with us (in express today)
Good luck to the lads in Italy today

DJ Dave C

Answer and solution...
honda...versatile, skillfull, and match winner...for 10 mill

Is K.Honda strong enough though? look at Sahin, Aquilani to name a couple.

i'm not questioning his talent but the two above also have talent, just saying do we need another bench warmer?

we need someone that will render Henderson surplus to requirements and literally make Gerrard take a long look at himself in the mirror at the same time.

Llorente, Hunterlar, Walcott all out of contract in the summer so probably available in Jan for around £6m a piece.

Kaka (although I personally believe over the hill) and Wesley Sniejder both available. Kaka not making the first team and Sniejder refusing to take a 25% pay cut (which I wouldn't either).

I know wages are the issue. But for the same price of Ince and Sturridge we could sign Sniejder and Llorente. On a weekly wage not crazily higher than cole and Carroll.

FSG step up!

Why would Sneidjer want to join us?!!!!!!

Er, because we are Liverpool FC?

Er, mid-table team with no CL chance and nothing but history to boost our egos?

Because we are Liverpool and only 7 points behind 4th with West Ham being our toughest opponents until january.

and we can give him first team football and his 6m euros a year in wages and at 15meuros its worth a bid & at the very least declaring some sort of interest after all we did try to get him in the past.

Last time I looked we are only 7 points behind 3rd place.

Xabi will finish his career in Madrid. He has said that he'd like to take his badges and become a coach at lfc but he won't be coming back as a player.

Hope the day would come when LFC is being managed by former Liverpool players successfully & win titles!

Seems like we are likely to sign Tom Ince & Daniel Sturridge.
They are not my personal first choice but still think would be decent signings.
Firstly im not really bothered about the fact that were signing some1 who recently left. Barca did it with Pique,Alba Fabregas.
And for 4m-6m is a decent price wnen likes of Zaha quoted at 15m-20m. Ince has 13goals in 18 apps a great rate for a winger whos 20 yrsold even if its championship
However i think hes not a necessity as i see him as a option instead of starter BUT as a LW OPTION would have him over Downing easy.
Sturridge is someone not many like but when given a chance he scores
Loan at Boltlon 8Gls 12Apps and under AVB scored 10 in the 1st half of the season.
Some call him greedy But he got 5 league assists last season PLUS we need someone who has the balls to take chances instead of relying on Suarez
He has good flare and trickery and would suit our style interchanging with Suarez by coming in from the right or through the middle.
For 12m would be good.

IF we sign these 2 i think we still should sign another ST.
I would like Ba/Bony/Huntelaar/Cardozo or even Hooper
UNLESS FSG plan a big signing.

In the summer i would like Hendo sold+Sahin loan end 'exiting'
With LFC buying a attacking mid playmaker like i.e. Mata/Cazorla/Oscar/Michu
Look at Filip Djuricic/Henrikh Mkhitaryan as young goalscoring AMs
Benat/Holtby
Or powerful cm like Moussa Sissoko/Diame

We need cover for Lucas and also if Sahin went back to RM, SG cant play all the games. So we need 1 midfielder. What about Alonso. He is free. He can play some important matches in PL and europa. He has still some 2 or 3 good years in him. Meanwhile, Suso, Shelvey, Coady will develop into better midfielders in 2 years.

Ed 001, reds What do you think about this?. {Ed001's Note - I would love Alonso, don't see it happening though.}

Apart from the Alonso bit (only because i dont see him coming back) I completely agree with you, anyone can see without Lucas we lack something deep midfield, he just always seem's to be there and im glad to see people like Sterling, Suso, Wisdom and Shelvey gettin their chance's, everyone was screaming for them to be given chances last season and those 4 have stood up and stood out, hopefully Coady will be soon to follow
