Sturridge is light years ahead of welback. Sturridge. can finish, use his strength effectively, has power and pace to burn and is technically far superior and is an excellent passer, creating chances for others. Sturridge is outstanding on and off the ball. Welback is 'a quick stone'.
On an other note, neymar, dissapointing, doesn't have pysical attributes to be as" good as ronaldo and doesn't have the control and obieience on the ball to be anywhere near messi. Two many kids are overhyped and its an insult how the likes of bale and neymar can be mentioned in the same breath as the greatest ever player in messi.

Big Al

Dean sturridge is better the welbeck mate. MATTYLFC

Lol Neymar is 20 and had a bad game against a good International team, I wouldn't write him off yet. When he moves to Europe he will improve, then you'll see just how good he is.

It amazes me that Cleverley can start for England but Hendo is stuck in the U21's. Hendo is a class above imo, but not in Wilshere's league, far and away the standout young player England have, and I'd say that already he is England's 2nd/3rd best player behind Stevie and possibly Hart.

Alan Partridge

Yeah but four weeks ago, youd have called him deadweight. He's had two good games don't get carried away

how much would you like jack wilshere? great great player. we want to replace gerrard?. ha.
going to move on to great things fantastic player.

to be fair neymar has this great reputation but really what has he done? scored some beautys but so does most attacking players. just overhyped and prices of 50m to me is based purely on reputation. clearly must be a good player but how good

Just got back from watching Spain vs Uruguay here in Doha. in my #7 shirt. Very psyched to see some Reds live after a long time.

Pepe didn't get a chance (a shame, I think), although Valdes didn't have a whole lot to do.

Suarez was looking pretty tired and played in short bursts, and was still the most creative guy on their side (his dummy to set up their goal was class). I really don't understand why you would play him for 90 minutes in a friendly after he played 90 mins on Sunday and got off a plan at midnight on Monday.

I guess SG had the same problem against Brazil.

Doha Red

Liverpool don't play until Monday so I think injury permitting our players should be fine for the West Brom game.
jonnybarnes89-90

LOL what was up with Cavani, he was dreadfull!

06 Feb 2013 21:03:03
Only seen neymar at the olympics and tonight, just doesn't seem to be the player he is hyped up to be. In fact not been overly impressed by Brazil, the teams I remember with rivaldo & Ronaldo from late 90s seem far and away better teams.

How overrated is Milner - I would never want him in a Liverpool shirt - thank god all those rumours about him coming were wrong

Leam Red
That goes for Barry as well!

Thought Milner looked better than Neymar tonight though lol.

He looked pretty good on Sunday against us!

He's a good player. very dangerous against us at the weekend

He spports lfc and is a very good player and never gives up ynwa

Milner was the best player on the field against city!

No the best player on the field that day was Sturridge, hence Motm.

Just wondering what everyone's thoughts on Jordan Ibe personally I think the kid could be a real star he has every ability needed to cut it in the premier league he has pace, skill, strength and a very good and very powerful shot I really hop the kid gets a run out near the end of this season or start of next he would be brilliant to bring on for the last 10-15 minutes what is your opinion on him ed do you think he will make it

Brilliant player with huge potential in my opinion, could possibly be better than Sterling IMO!

I think he is a better long term bet than Sterling. He has more physical presence. RED LENIN

Great potential with great ability but it still could be a bit early for first team action.

Just watching England, Sturridge is a better centre firework than Wellbeck, Walcott and also that dozy looking overated Brazilian Neymar.
Think Sturridge; now that he's at the right club will be Centre Firework for England.

kidmillions

Kidmillions, I think you're wrong about Walcott.
I really wish we could have got him I think he's going to be a great striker in fact I always have

Chris in Tamworth

Lots of fireworks - is it bonfire night already?!

mikehoopersgloves

I like Walcot Chris, I said that Sturridge is a better bet at centre forward than Walcott.

kidmillions

Sturridge a better striker than Walcott without a doubt
FowlerisGod

Sturridge is definitely a rocket and often a real sparkler

I like walcott to. I think with sturridge at center forward put rooney where cleverly was and all that england team needed was a left winger. Wilshere was what was missing at the euros. Brazil could not handle walcotts pace

brendan are you watching stevie s disciplined display as a holding midfielder

Busby babes will never walk alone

You realise that Rodgers plays Gerrard in a relatively deep role right? Look at how Pirlo is used in Serie A, it's not a dissimilar style.

ChrisMiz

It is the natural progression for him as he gets older. Hopefully that'll see him lasting well into his 50's
G

A 50 year old Gerrard, told to just hover around 25 yards from goal within the lines of the 18 yards box, avoiding offside, would still get you 6-8 goals a season and 10 assists. :-)

At one stage gerrard was one of the most effective defensive midfielder in the world, only when rafa came did he move further forward

Hi Guys

I have just been through the Manchester United page and obviously its a day of rememberance and reflection for a lot of people. I would just like to thank the numerous Liverpool fans that have made the effort to leave kind words and sentiments it is much appreciated. United and Liverpool actually have a lot in common including both having great history, both having great fans and both sharing a disaster.
This is for all that have been effcted by Munich and Hillsborough.
Once again thankyou

Never ever neglect this.

The biggest spenders in Premier League history.

10. Sunderland- £297, 015, 840.
09. Everton- £300, 890, 480.
08. Aston Villa- £366, 556, 960.
07. Newcastle United- £467, 192,000.
06. ARSENAL- £475, 090,000.
05. Tottenham- £619, 778, 720.
04. Man United- £670, 190, 400.
03. Liverpool- £724, 801, 440.
02. Man City- £742, 440, 600.
01. Chelsea- £ 1, 046, 623, 600.

We are the third biggest spenders.

I would like to see the top ten wage bill too?

Why is Arsenal highlighted?

What's your point? Liverpool have never won it so does it matter?

What about Net spend on players?

It only proves that we have wasted the most out of clubs to have never won the Prem. That much money is a joke pure and simple with only a handful of good players to show for it.
Scouse_Pride

Next have the stats for how much has been recouped from player sales. I think our net will be lower than third.

Hi Ed002,
Sturridge was a great transfer. He gives pace upfront, good ball control, fast, very dangerous for goalkeepers. Liverpool need those kind of players. I`m just a bit concern for Sterling, not his injury though. I feel his performance`s been quite poor since he signed a new deal. Would you agree? I know he`s a young kid, still, we need him in good shape and on form. With Raheem, Daniel and Luis Liverpool can be a real threat for the opponents. The calendar till the end of the season looks quite good, CL football is still up for grabs for Liverpool. I really like the work Rodgers has done since he came, the match at City was wonderful. It`s a pity we didn`t win that one. Much better than at Arsenal. Let`s go Reds and Eds! Thanks for your outstanding work.
tom {Ed002's Note - Sterling is still very young - he'll be fine.}

I think his mind maybe focused on something else. Perhaps his off the field antics.

Hi Eds, first of all great work on the site and (despite what some stupid people have said) you're work over the window was much appreciated!

Not really a full LFC question but it might be in the future - what is Hypia doing at Leverkusen? I know he isn't the full manager but how is it working with him and the other guy he's sharing with? If BR decides to leave in the future and Hypia has a track record of doing well, I'd give him the job any day

Just a quick post from a United fan to thank so many of you for posting heartfelt comments today. No matter what happens in the future and has happened since both our clubs suffered tragedy in Munich and Hillsbrough true class always shines through. Rivalry is born out of respect and we will always share a tragic past that makes both clubs so much more than mere football clubs.

Respect and Thanks.

I know its only 10 mins into the game but I don't see what all fuss is about Neymar! I know its only 10 mins in but I thought this would be his chance to show us all what he's got! Not saying he's not a good player just don't think he is as good as people make him out to be.

I'm not all out sold on Neymar but he is a talent, there can be no doubting that surely. Some consideration today should be given to a change in Brazil manager (Scolari is back in charge) one day of training with him, several changes to the squad since last time they played and a change in tactics.

SpudRed

How can you possibly judge a player on 20 mins of football.?
Please pay more attention to more than 1 game before spouting your absurd views. For God's sake that is a very narrow sighted view.

Phooey.

Yes I would have expected at least a hattrick in the opening 10 mins!

Watched an iw with Lucas and he comes across a lovely lad.

However, he is part of the problem here.

A team needs a strong, powerful midfield enforcer with skill passing precision and a bit of nastiness.

Lucas is a decent player - nothing special, just relatively decent.

He would never have got in any of the teams of yesteryear, but is just about the only decent holding midfielders we have.

There seems to be lots of Lucas supporters, but really is he a world beater?

Is he someone who contains the opposition and dictates a game? Maybe a bit - but he is nothing special, can and should be replaced.

Many people have bought into a message - a club, players and supporters saying what a good player he is - say something enough times and people will start believing it!

The reality is that he ought to be a squad player not a player as an integral part of the team.

M

Its funny how Lucas comes back to the first team and all of a sudden the rest of the team start to play better. Think he has more of an impact than you give him credit for.
YNWA
Jamesy

The reality is that until his injury last season, he was unbelievable. He completely dominated a very 'in form' David silva and juan mata. He was looking like a bigger, cleaner version of masch. Since coming back he's been good but not got back to his full power or pace yet. Give him until the end of the season and see how good he is then.
Jason

Good to see you've come out of your 12 month coma.

You obviously haven't seen the results and the state of our defensive play in the time Lucas has been injured.

redmersey

Stunned. Absolutely stunned at that post.

Lucas is world class. Before his injury he was, by far, the best CDM in the premier league. He was everywhere and he had every teams creative player in his pocket that he faced, including last years buzzing David Silva.

He is only now coming back to himself after those two injuries and he finally started looking like himself again in the Man Citeh game where he dominated.

Get a grip.

SpudRed

Need I remind you that he won the Brazilian Player of the Year (OK, the Bola de Ouro)while still a teenager.

He was the youngest ever winner of this award with previous recipients including Pele, Romario and Kaka.

Gremio also won the State Championship and came third in the National Championship while internationally Lucas captained Brazil U20s to a South American Championship win and scored four goals on the way.

He also starred for his club side in their 2007 Copa Libertadores campaign. They got to the fina

l.

The original poster actually sent that post in 2007 when he first joined and it's only came through now because that's the only explanation I have for a moronic post like that.

He was never a defensive midfielder when bought and shouldn't be played in that position.

He was a real prospect of becoming a world class player when younger - he had so many accolades.

My point is that he has not lived up to his potential - partly because he has been converted into a position he was never brought up to play.

M

Lucas is a good player who has got better and better each season he's been with us. It was very hard for him at the start as he was young and was being compared to the likes of Masch, Alonso and Gerrard. That was the best trio in Europe at the time. He allows Gerrard to play a bit more freely and is way better than Allen who is a liability. My ideal trio would be a better playmaker (like Alonso) in front of the back four, Lucas playing a more roving role (like Masch used to), with Gerrard behind the front 2.
He has become a key player for us and let's hope he stays with us over the years
G

06 Feb 2013 23:30:58
Yeah, Lucas is a weed.

Such a weed that at his peak he outmuscled Yaya Toure at full kilter (name one other player you've seen do that. Just one. Go ahead, I'll wait) and stole the ball from him absolutely cleanly. Just because he isn't 6'2'' and 14 stone doesn't mean he has no strength.

That was how he was playing September/October last season and I am certain that if he hadn't gotten injured a couple of weeks later, we'd have spent the summer trying to keep other clubs from prising him away.

No reason why he can't recapture that form, don't forget he basically missed a whole year with 2 injuries. He isn't going to get completely over that in just a couple of months.

He's also a hell of a lot better on the ball than quite a few other defensive midfielders. He can't do 50 yard switches of the play, but he usually passes forwards, and finds a team-mate. Doesn't sound like much, but you'd be surprised at how many allegedly better midfielders don't do it.

- Something Red -

07 Feb 2013 11:32:15
I held my head in my hands when he got stretchered off at Chelsea, I knew exactly what it meant for our season.

He may not set the world alight, but our win rate with him in the side before he got injured was far better than the end of the season. Same this year.

I for one think he's future captain material.

In fact, he's probably my favourite current Liverpool player.

i believe we need to get defenders 2 cb and 1 left defender.
1 striker and a winger.
i think that br does not rate quates and with carra getting older that's were we need to focus on.
after last wed/sunday we all could see that we create loads of chances but our defence is the weak link.
if we can get a chielini/vidic/kompany kind of cb we would have had 10 points more.

Please don't take any notice of people spreading rumours they thought about while on the toilet!
Lucas leaving. are you insane? He's settled and happy and looking after Coutinho!
Ben Arfa. too inconsistent! What if we had Carroll back? As a plan B, he is the best there is!
Here's hoping!

Iranred in London {Ed001's Note - is plan B to be injured? Only that is pretty much all he has done.}

I don't like all this 'Plan B' talk. You even see top media men coming out with it- "Liverpool need a plan B. " In football, there is no such thing as a plan B, only depth. There is no team that midway through a game switches from, say, tiki-taka to their 'plan B' of hoofball!

Carrol? Really!

Ed is there anyone at all we could get as a like for like replacement for Stevie when he retires? I know it won't be for a few years but is this Rossiter kid from the academy in the same ilk as Stevie G? Cheers!
LS7. {Ed001's Note - Rossiter is the most likely long term replacement, he is very much of the same ilk, potentially the same quality too.}

Cheers Ed, heard a lot of good comments about him just wanted to know if he was as good as people are saying he is. Now that you mention he could potentially be of Steven Gerrard quality I'm getting really excited about this guy! let's just hope he lives up to his potential! Also Ed I've heard a few people saying that bar Ajax and Barcelona we have the best youth academy in the world? Would you agree with this or is it just wishful thinking?

Ed didn't he get a week off to go wrap up his affairs in Italy and stuff. In which case he wouldn't have gotten any chance to impress.

Hi guys/eds, I'm trying to book the game on 21 feb vs zenit st pretersburg it will be my first game and first time too anfield just hope you guys can tell me where's the best seats to watch anfield road lower, centenary upper, lower centenary, main stand and paddock enclosure are available to book on line hope you can help many thanks.

Lfc fan from cardiff

I hope your first experience of Anfield is a memorable one and that the chaps turn on the style for you. Where you sit depends on the view you would prefer really. The lower section of the Anfield Road end is behind the goal which means a foreshortened view, but the atmosphere there can be good. The Centenary stand is side-on and should offer a good view, with the upper tier allowing you to look down on the action and get an idea of the patterns of play. My season ticket is in the front of the Paddock which is opposite the Centenary towards the Kop End. The view from there really gives you a feel of how fast the game can be.

Red Owl

Main stand right in middle if you can
red rrab

Good few rows back in the Centenary would be my advice!

Enjoy!

Lee YNWA

Main stand right behind one of the pillars

Depends what you want! My season ticket is in the main stand next to the away fans so the view isn't amazing but it's a good atmosphere with the banter! I would probably say no to upper centenary as for a first vist you won't get the real feel for the ground. If I were you I'd go for the paddock or kind of lower/ middle main stand. I'm sure everyone ha their own opinion. Shame the kip wasn't available but you'd have saw legs by the end!

Sorry Liverpool fans, but in what world would Newcastle give you Ben Arfa and cash for Carroll?

If the deal was on the cards, it would be the case of Carroll plus cash for Ben Arfa.

Lets face the hard facts here, Carroll is worth 7 - 10 tops, no way will you get more.

Ben Arfa is worth 15 -20 mil easy. er go Carroll and 10 mil.

TA - Where reading this is fact becasue it says so.

Matey, you must a Newcastle fan! Raving about Ben Arfa as if he's Messi! Ben Arfa performs once/twice per season, otherwise there'd be a line of clubs waiting for him!
I hope Carroll does stay with Liverpool and prove everyone wrong and anyway, he can't speak French so he's had it for a start.

Funniest post ever - Ben Arfa worth 15-20 million - must be the warped Geordie sense of humour.

John B

Haha thanks for telling all us Liverpool fans the facts. I guess YOU must be the one who decides how much each player is worth eh lad

It's a pity you didn't tell us that when we gave you £35 million for Carroll.
What if we told you Carroll was half French; what would give us then?
Rigsby.

Please don't characterise individual posts as a representation of ALL of us. It's generalising and makes you look a bit silly.

ChrisMiz

Not if Ben Arfa wants to leave.
I don't know about swap deals anyway and not sure if Newcastle are interested in Carroll.

Roy

No, no, we want to sell you Andrée Carolle for Ben Arfa + 5m. Il est bon, non?

SpudRed

How can you say that Carroll is only worth 7-10 million when there is a deal in place for West Ham to buy for more than this amount. I believe the agreed fee is around the £17 million mark.
Cheers, JLT.

Thats because west ham are mugs. Andy carroll is not even worth double figures in millions. Ben arfa has more skill in his left toe than caroll has in his whole body

Ben Arfa worth about 2.3 million you mean

It turns out those figures quoted are the work of Ben Arfa's agent. His name is Ben Arfa Daley.
Rigsby.

West Ham will not buy Carroll for 17 mil- HBA is worth more that Carroll - swap deal is unlikey unless Carroll plus cash.

Not exactly to do with Liverpool but anyone see what neymar said about England? Rooney is our only goal threat? Is he off his head or something Rooney is so poor for England! Did he not see Stevie g goal against man c?

Londonred

Neymar is a good PLAYER, not a talker nor a thinker. a person! so who gives a toss what he thinks!
Smile and ignore, mate!

I am appalled at neymar's comments stating rooney is england's only goal threat, it shows disrespect to the opposition something we were taught not to do. The attitude of a spoiled brat, but the talent of a great, neymar. I don't usually support england but even if its just to shut the little. er person up I would like them to win. Rooney ain't exactly prolific at international level

Maybe he has no idea who gerrard is as he doesn't play in the champs league.

For those of you talking sh!t Rooney has scored 33 goals in 79 games for England, not a bad international record! That includes 26 goals in his 53 competetive games (more than 1 in 2 for those who struggle with maths also). Who else in the England squad is capable of that?

Gav

Well Rooney scored! And Naymar was the least effective player on the pitch!

Gerrards only won the champions league once. Ah well ones still more than most.

Gav, you just made a complete ass of yourself trying to be smart, I think you'll find 26 in 53 is not more than 1 in 2 *sigh*.

Basically we have to keep all of our star player ( suarez, johnson, etc) and buy 2-3 quality signings like (erriksen, godin, and hatem ben arfa)

We need are young players to discover a winning mntality.

Those three would be lovely!

Hi eds and follows
With the defence of our team looking a likely place that we will strengthen in the summer do you believe that a good buy would be the AFC Ajax player Toby Alderweireld. He is a player that that play in the system that we have at the club aswell as that he could play left back if needed. Don't forget the last two belgium defenders that came to the premier league from AFC Ajax have been great buys for the london rival spurs and arsenal and I would class him in that league

I think next season if we can get a new keeper a new centre back and a new winger and keep the spine of the team we will be there or there abouts at the top next season

Totally agree

Vorm, Williams, Isimat-Mirin, Iborra, Ince and Jovetic would be a good summer for me. Reina, Carroll, Skrtel, Coates, Spearing, Wilson, Flanagan, Pacheco and Downing the most likely leavers.

Busy then.

I think godin would be a great signing he's like agger but younger and quicker. If Liverpool went in for him it would be great. What do you think eds and reds?

06 Feb 2013 11:29:30
Tried to use the search function for Ben Arfa but I cannot see anything recent.

What do you eds know about it? Genuine or just a load of woo woo?

Hi eds what. Would you think of a player like khedira {Ed023's Note - In what way? Man crush? Think that he looks like Baros or do you mean as a player?}

Now that you mention it Ed he does look a lot like Baros!

Haha I've always thought he was a baros look alike!

i believe that there are talks of lucas quitting Liverpool, however who have we got to replace him, no Sahin and henderson is awful in the middle. should of splashed some more cash brendan {Ed023's Note - Lucas is not quitting Liverpool. Did you just read his recent interview about helping Coutinho to settle?}

He's not quitting. Even if he was it would be in the summer and I'm pretty sure a replacement would be bought.

Worst. Rumour. Ever.

Is Carra taking over from Sur Fergie next?

SpudRed

Behave mate. You a man united fan or something?

So your saying Sahin shouldve stayed, Henderson is awful and Lucas will leave. Have you suffered major brain damage recently?

Ha, your having a laugh, Lucas is here to stay, and Hendo is hitting top form at last,
redforever

Your 'Cat amongst pigeons' ploy was an epic fail mate!

Worst rumour I've seen on here for a long time. Is there a wheel of fortune these jokers use with players names they randomly spin and pick a player to link with a move away?

Lucas is one of the most dedicated and loyal players we have, even more so than others due to the ammount of stick and hate he got until the past few years.

The guy is here for the long run.

To kidmillions: yeah I agree when Johnson and Enrique are fit it's not much of a problem. They are both great going forward like you say, but I think They both need to show a bit more restraint at times and actually defend. It's the lack of any leadership in the middle I see as the problem. Maybe you could say Lucas is guilty of that as well, I wouldn't want him replaced though, he is too good for that.
A vocal defender with a defenders brain in the middle would make the world of difference IMO.
Our defenders switch off at times and mistakes happen. Someone needs to be out there ready to give them a kick up the backside. Don't know who we could bring in though, would have to be over 25 who can speak good English IMO.

06 Feb 2013 12:10:04
Mate in thise kind of style you need attacking fullbacks because they are only ones to provide proper width just look at alves at Barca. And mistakes are bound to happen no matter what kind of defender we bring because even Barca and arsenal make mistakes at back by passing everytime as I said if you watch barca they make a lot of mistakes by passing ball at back but they always win the problem with us we haven't killed teams example when we were 2 up against arsenal we set back in 2nd half instead of going for third to put game beyond arsenal even if you see against city we missed lots of chances but teams like Barca they are ruthless infront of goal we just need to finish our chances we create 13-15 chances every game atleast need to score 3-4 goals thise is what barca are good at

Someone like carra?

I understand everyone wanting Reina out but I do not understand everyone wanting Jones in between the sticks.

Dont we have a keeper who when he went out on loan shone and then had some great games for us in Peter Gulacsi I think its time we gave the lad a chance he has been waiting years for too become our number one.

Kopping a feel

Splash the cash and go German.
redforever

Not had chance to see much of Gulacsi but what I have has led me to believe Jones is rightfully the Reina understudy.

Lets not forget Jones does have his spells of being pretty reliable, earlier in the season when he strung a few games together, knowing reina was out injured, he really seemed to grab his chance and did well.

He's not first choice unfortunately, great guy nonetheless.

misterdrumz

Let's also not forget that Jones is older than Reina. So he can't really be an understudy. We will definitely be splashing come summer

Couldn't agree more on Jonno, pure quality and would walk into any team in the world. Some people just can't think for themselves so get by repeating what they have heard others say.

I still remember people saying Gerrard was never going to make it because he was always injured

we all know the ince family are being a bit arrogant with trying to wait for other offers
dont just think its the blackpool chairman asking for more money

and now ince has been in the spotlight. for england or any cup games

you will all see whether he trully wants to come to Liverpool in the summer. or. the minute another club go in for him will he take it. e. g. man utd. spurs cfc etc

look at sigurdsson. i'm so happy he ain't playing. because he was too greedy towards Liverpool. upping his wage demands because brendan went from swansea to Liverpool.

he jumped straight to spurs when they said yes to his wages. BUT DID HE REALLY WANT TO GO SPURS. OR WAS IT THE MONEY?

now he is complaining of not getting a game.

so my point is. Liverpool need players who WANT to play for the club. that way. if they are not getting in the team. at some point of the season, then they are the type to be prepared to fight

so we shall see what happens with this ince guy

red lobster

Arrogant? Remember the Adam transfer saga?

Some people have issues with certain clubs, and in this case, it's Oysten Vs Liverpool.

I suggest you look at some of the existing Liverpool players to realise that the 21st century breeds arrogance in high-profile stars.

Ince is a typically young lad earning a good wage but to insinuate its an arrogance is unfair.

Remember, he left a high profile club for first team football and that is commendable in itself albeit a less-well-established club.

By the way, I'd be EXACTLY the same with my son.

If (as rumoured) skyrtel, coates and Reina are off as well as Pacheco, Wilson I think the perfect summer window would be;
Vorm, ter stegen, a Williams, cabye and ince plus another centre half and forward ( depending on funds and or promotions from youth ranks

EDs could Igor Akinfeev be a realistic option in the summer should Reina leave? {Ed001's Note - I don't see him as a likely option this summer.}

06 Feb 2013 08:29:32
Guyz good news is Bayern are interested in Lendowski so forget Suarez I think money is problem for them I can't see them spending 50-60M for one player that's the same reason why they have dropped their interest on Falcao and will be big problem for any team to buy Suarez because there are very few teams who can spend 50-60M on one player. City with all their spending still haven't spent 50-60M on single player can't see chelsea spending 50-60M again after Abramovich money got Burnt with torres {Ed001's Note - when did they drop interest in Falcao? They haven't is the answer.}

06 Feb 2013 11:08:35
Ed1 mate I jus saw espn and they sayed Bayern are looking to buy lendowski instead of falcao because he might be too expensive {Ed001's Note - ESPN are just like Sly, they are not particularly reliable. Bayern have a substantial amount of money for Pep to spend.}

06 Feb 2013 11:36:53
{Ed002's Note - Bayern Munich wil be the big spenders this coming summer with a very significant budget assigned.}

06 Feb 2013 08:27:15
4 area's we need this summer - centre half, def mid, attackin mid/forward, wing forward!. all experienced and already established! if we get these we can challenge for the title in my opinion. my choices would be ashley williams, victor wanyama, stevan jovetic, hatem ben arfa.

Thats rubbish! Wanyama couldn't kick a back door in, and you're looking him in a team trying to compete for the epl?

06 Feb 2013 03:07:16
Piledriver of course I don't think reina is making mistakes on purpose, just wanted a little wind up on here.
But for you to say i'm jumping on the reina band wagon? you can get stuffed pal. i'm driving the bloody wagon. months if not years I've wanted reina replaced, ever since his head was turned the summer of 2010. I have produced countless reasons to why jones should be playing. But no, jones has one bad game he's been discarded out of total thought. martin s has a couple of bad months, people want him out, but old reina has 2 awful seasons and people still want to keep him. the mind boggles. People want lfc challenging in the league, but also believe in the "we should keep them because they've been a good servant to the club"
make up you're mind, because there's a few that have been around for a while, but are not good enough. I expect reina to leave in the summer just like aurelio, kuyt, maxi.
Benny baller

Jones is a good keeper but not a number 1.

Jones is ordinary at best.

06 Feb 2013 11:28:45
Mate for team who have big ambitions and want to play in highest level then Jones is not good enough. Look at united they are 9 points clear and might win league title but yet they think degea is not good enough don't forget they paid 18-20M for him if we want to compete then we must be ruthless.

06 Feb 2013 01:05:05
I read here a few days ago one of ed01 comments. That if we were to sell reina that we could be intrested in a couple of german keepers. One person mentioned ter stagen, and ed 01 said he would be too expensive as bayern are also intrested. You also said that they will replace neur. I was wondering why they would want to replace neur when he is probably one of the best keepers in the world. Thanks if you reply ed 01. Appreciate it if you do. {Ed001's Note - I honestly don't know, just that it looks to be on the cards right now. Maybe Pepe doesn't think he fits his style of play?}

Downing,

Now let's have a proper thought on the guy from a honest point of view.

I would say, in terms of play, he is about at the level now, he was at just before we bought him, consistantly ok, yeah?
Doesnt stand out a mile, tracks back well, does the simple things simply.

Personally as an out and out winger, he just doenst look as though he is skillful and quick enough. Be that age? confidence? who knows, but can anyone genuinely remember him constantly terrorising defences for villa/middlesborough? I remember he would have the odd good game, but consistently good otherwise.

Now to put things into perspective I think when he plays he holds the team back, he needs a good 5 yard in front of him all the time, oposition know this as he has minimal skill, he needs a build up of speed to get him by.

This is by no means a witch hunt on the guy, as a player he does his job, but I don't move forward on my seat when he has the ball, I just don't get the feeling he wants to dazzle us all, and that he is just happy at being ok?

It is neither a go at KK for plundering a wedge on the guy, or comolli whoever wanted him, I just feel that in that current squad, he sits comfortably knowing he does an ok job, and that warrants him a start most games, and it seems to work for him, just feel like lighting a firework on his a$$ sometimes to wake him up!

I think he will definatley go in the summer, BR seems him as ok for now, if you like, Coutinho is probably his replacement.
Just feel kinda sorry for the guy I suppose.
Piddy.

In my opinion, he's a decent winger, but he's not a very good forward. His positioning is too static- always hugging the line. I'd like to see him move more around the front 3, but it just doesn't seem to come to him naturally. Frankly I have the same reservations with Assaidi and Sterling as well. Although perhaps with Sturridge crosses will be more effective.

06 Feb 2013 07:52:35
i am feeling sorry for FSG. 20mill. do you relaise how much it is?

Have a look at all the other players of other teams there's not one of them that bes outstanding every week it was people we bought not machines

I think you summed him up well, Piddy. Just to add to that, he seems to lack a bit of confidence, too. I'm always more hopeful than confident or excited when he gets the ball.
Saying that, he has benefited from playing regularly, recently, and he seems to be our best wide option at the minute.
Rigsby.

Hard one this, as we all know he's no Ronaldo or Nani, but one that does a job. I believe he needs to be loved, supported even and why he hasn't done as well here than he probably should have done. It's why Rafa struggled with the odd player, he couldn't do the hand around the shoulder that they needed. There has always been a segment of the fan base that never wanted him and wanted him out almost as soon as he had put pen to paper. This has to show in his play, knowing some don't want him at our club. Fans can kill a player before he even kicks a ball for the club.
At the end of the day, he'd be a good bench player, but whether he'd want that I don't know.

Keith

Downer cost too much but he is a decent squad player. He is a 'does a job' player. Like Milner at Man Citeh billionaires and like Park Ji-Sung was at United. A winger/inside forward that tracks back well and cover the overlapping full back. When you have a play like that we doesn't give the ball away, works hard for the team, puts the occassional cross in, scores the odd goal, you have a platform for much more adventurous forwards alongside him.

Now, the issue is that it seems without constant prodding Downer starts gets lax and starts Giving the ball away too much.

Personally, I think he does ok now in the current system and will be a decent squad player. However, if we sold him in the summer I'd promptly forget he existed.

SpudRed

For me his performances have only differed in the fact his work rate is now commendable.
I think on the ball apart from the odd good cross he isn't providing a threat to defenders or an outlet for others.
For me his position is the weakest in our starting eleven atm, just think he lacks cutting edge and quality to match our ambitions.
Fair play to him for reacting to Rodgers' challenge though.

Ed's,

was Kelly originally a centre back? If so do you think he'll ever be switched this position to put pressure on Skrtl, Agger? He seems to have great attributes to be a quality centre back

Thanks

rikdangerous {Ed001's Note - yes and I think he will probably play both positions for a while yet, before settling down as a centre back.}

05 Feb 2013 22:35:35
Eds,

Why aren't people linking Vorm as a summer replacement knows Rodgers and I feel is already a better keeper that reina
Also he could be or no 1 for 10 years

Scouserob90 {Ed001's Note - they have been.}

10 years? He's 30 soon.

Vorm is 30 next season so don't think he'll be our keeper for 10 yrs. Can see him coming to Anfield though. BR won't want to risk an untried keeper from abroad if he can get a guy he loves. Ditto Williams at CB. They'd both settle quickly and give us a chance of starting a season strongly for a change.

The one concern about vorm is his height, he is not very tall for a keeper. I think swansea's no 2 tremmell is a much better bet, he has played really well in the capitol one cup and also the league when vorm has been injured. I know a lot of swansea fans rate him

Hi Ed's,

not Liverpool related, but thought you may be able to enlighten me on the reason behind the fantastic crop of Belgian players coming through.

Did they restructure their youth policy and philosophy, like Germany did about 10-15 years ago. They seem to be very comfortable playing in the premier league too.
More than physically and technically capable. Quite impressive.

Thanks

rikdangerous {Ed001's Note - actually most of them were brought up in academies elsewhere, so it is difficult to understand. The Hazards, for instance, were at Lille, others played elsewhere in Europe. I have read hundreds of articles regarding it, no one seems to be able to put their finger on why it has happened!}

06 Feb 2013 09:45:38
Some of this is down to a coach called Michel Bruyninckx and others who have taken his ideas and used/added to them. He works with kids at a number of clubs in Belgium and integrates a technical development with a much higher focus on social, mental and brain centred learning. High profile players such as Dries Mertens and Steven Dufour have obvious not done too badly through working with him. His work is massively forward thinking (no I don't work for him or am a relative of his!) and none of the players making it to the top level after working in this way will ever be accused of not having a football brain. One guy who went to work with him had a very weak left foot and when he was transferred to Germany later in his career his new club thought he was left footed.

Simon

06 Feb 2013 10:10:17
Just a coincidence?

Hi Ed, I've been thinking about this one for a while myself. I have a theory that it probably has something to do with, shall we say Lax imigration/passport rules in Belguim. We know Wenger for instance at least use to see belguim as a good way of getting young african players into europe, and I suspect that a lot of belguim acadamies were used for a similar purpose?
The influx of talented foregin youngsters ( and I imagine big clubs had a say in how the acadamies were run ) has raised the standard there quite dramaticaly.

Brain centred learning? He must be a pioneer of education to try that one!

Nick

Ivory coast acadamy - Beveren ( Belguim) - Arsenal, newsnight investigated this one. Arsene does'nt get all these talented kids by luck.
