Ed, seem to recall somebody asking if Kenny drove to blackpool to pick up Adam to which Ed didn't know. Kenny drive him from Kirby Academy to Melwood.

Eds tell me please why did we buy Charlie Adam he is s*#t, all his goals last season was from penerty or freekick, we got steve-g or surez to take that, anyways at least we have a decent sub bench.

{Ed031's Note - I agree he is limited, but I trust Kenny.}

06 Jul 2011 22:51:41
ED this summer is gettin proper exciting now, it was when kk brought in ALDRIDGE, BARNES, BEARDSLEY and HOUGHTON, this time he's bringing in HENDERSON, ADAM, DOWNING? And AGUERO, here's hoping Just feels good to be a RED. In KENNY we TRUST Y..N..W..A
THanks ED DHH

like the idea of having johnson play right midfield with either kelly or flanagan at right back, with johnson being able to fill in at LB and kelly able to also play CB I think the defence and right hand side is very flexable, kuyt also adding depth to the right.1 LB and 1 LM/LW would be enough but only if we had cover for the LM, do any Ed s or anyone, know if there are any reserve/youth players on the cusp of the first team that could fill this role or is best to buy 2 LM that could walk into the first team and having one sat on the bench?? thanks {Ed009's Note - Sterling will be able to come off the bench next season, and Maxi will probably be covering there too. We could see another winger on top of Downing that can play on both sides.}

06 Jul 2011 22:41:03
Did kenny drive all the way to blackpool to get charlie adam EDS or is this false?

{Ed031's Note - asked the other Ed's and they don't know either.}

06 Jul 2011 22:38:44
welcome 2 anfield charlie boy..left back, 2 wingers, and another forward. cant wait till kick off up the mighty reds YNWA

Who's nxt to sign then gents? Ha I love this site {Ed009's Note - If I had to say? Downing.}

06 Jul 2011 22:27:26
Evening all,
Adam. At last.
Others to follow I am sure.
However, on other more important news.
The Sun - News of The World - Sky ?
As Liverpool fans we all (I hope) give the first two a big wide one.
Given recent revelations of the culture of Murdoch's media empire, what do others / eds feel about his connection with Sky ?
I personally don't subscribe to Sky. I'm not claiming any moral high ground on this, but to what extent should we worry about Sky ?
The Real KB {Ed009's Note - the only news outlet I genuinely trust is the BBC - as well as this one of course haha - and I only use Sky for the games it has to show.}

06 Jul 2011 22:22:53
i think its important to sign good players

{Ed031's Note - of course it is.}

06 Jul 2011 20:40:12
ED ANY CHANCE IN SHIKABALA JOINING, HE WOULD COST NEXT TO NOTHING ID IMAGINE AND IT WOULD EXPAND OUR CLUB IN THAT COUNTRY, HE PLAYS FOR ZALAMEK IN EGYPT HE IS 25 AND LOOKS STUNNING {Ed002's Note - I'll say no.}

06 Jul 2011 22:12:37
Hey eds, just a thought, but it looks like our two signings so far have been Kenny's signings. I've heard a lot of times that he identified and pushed through Henderson, and he's clearly a fan of Adam. So all this talk about Comolli's track record, but it looks like Kenny has first say over targets. Hope Comolli pushes through the signing of Sakho though

Red Ollie {Ed009's Note - Kenny is certainly the boss.}

06 Jul 2011 22:12:06
i am shocked we r even considering such a 3rd rate player like downing. Eds what is going on at anfield cazorla and mata will cure are wing problems downing will create more trouble? {Ed009's Note - that is a simply ridiculous statement. Downing is a good player - maybe not on Mata's level but personally I believe more what we need than Cazorla. He whipped in the second most crosses in the PL last season, only Baines came before him and he was in the top 5 for assists. Watch him come 1st or 2nd with Andy on the end of them.}

06 Jul 2011 21:51:04
From an extremely reliable source - rumour says we'll be the champions next season :-)

Take a look at the kings title winning side at Blackburn...
Look what type of player he us bringing in
Downing Adam etc, very similar to the players he had there. Suggest future signings will be similar.

06 Jul 2011 21:20:14
I just hope Carra, Agger or Skrtel doesnt clash heads in the first game of the season, gerrards groin stays in tact, Carroll knee is sound and Suarez is fit once back from Copa America.

06 Jul 2011 21:14:53
Love Dan Aggers mohican he looks a right nutcase now.

JD

06 Jul 2011 21:10:46
honeslty downing is a rip off at his age his a good player but too expensive with 20m you can buy better younger wingers.

for the big signing to "happen" in mind i think aguero will be the top signing his not a problem to get because juventus neither have European football the only problem is wages, load off cole, joav, n gog, polusen i recon we can kop aguero. imagen that aguero suarez n carrol together a crazy strike force what do you think ed ?

06 Jul 2011 21:10:39
hi eds - Why did we put so much time into signing two midfielders(good players im sure) but with no left back or not one that is good enough or can stay fit for long enough, hoe was this position filled first?

Also ed can you give us the team you expect to play in the first game V Sunderland and can you name the subs too. Your best guess pls {Ed029's Note - Impossible to say without knowing who else we are going to sign yet. We signed two excellent home grown midfielders to replace the likes of Poulson. I believe a left back will still arrive but if not we have Johnson and youth players who can do a great job there}

I think Comolli & Kenny have done well so far, all things considered:

Out:
Torres - £50million
Babel - £7million

In:
Carroll - £35million
Suarez - £23million
Henderson - £16million
Adam - £7.5million

Net Spend = £24.5million

...but bar Downing, there has to be another £20+ million signing in this window. Reina is expecting it, we can't let him down.

-Shane.
______________________________________________________________________

Why are we always concentrating on net spend?

I do not know what the huge fuss is about net spend, it is the gross amount less the amount of outgoing player sales.

Look at the whole investment...

35mil + 23mil + 16mil + 7.5mil = 81.5mil GROSS SPEND.

24.5mil wouldn't have even got us Suarez so using the net spend as an tactic is utterly pointless to know what we have actually spent on playerrs which is the GROSS amount (Total spent) which would be 81.5mil. 81.5mil is what it cost to bring the players listed above to Anfield.

Net spend is so yesterdays news, it was also a a very good excuse that many of our fans liked to use while Rafa was here to try and cover up the way he actually wasted money.

06 Jul 2011 21:01:02
Ed just wanted to know what you think of charlie adam? I think he's a good player but could he do it at a big club. Thanks {Ed002's Note - I am not convinced by him as a player but he has to be given a chance.}

06 Jul 2011 21:01:02
Hi ed do you think LFC will now move quickly to buy Downing to get him and Adam ready for the Asia tour thanks.

06 Jul 2011 20:59:57
So happy with the agreement for Adam. Player I've admired for a long time. Let's just hope he passes medical etc. Which I am sure he will. I would like us to sign Dann I think he's class plus young and scouse. I would still like to see us up a bid for Downing I like the lad think he would do a great job on the left hand side. I'm still not sure of the left back I like Enrique think he's a really good player. Baines is good but not sure if he would leave everton for us because of pride more than anything probs get his head kicked in by a crazy bluenose angry head haha. Getting excited for the 1st game now gunna be a great season I can feel it. Come on the reds

06 Jul 2011 20:54:46
please please king kenny play johnson at right wing hes the only player we have who will directly attack and go at defenders no matter who they are plus can cut in and shoot and cross good ED what do you think ? {Ed029's Note - I think he would be excellent at RW and would love to see him given a chance there}

06 Jul 2011 20:51:26
Seen the pictures of LFC training and seems Agger is fit, if this is so he will be like a new signing the best footballing ch in league in the hansen mould. Hopefully he will stay fit and save us 15-20m on a new ch {Ed029's Note - I really hope so as he is amazing when fit}

06 Jul 2011 20:51:14
Ed is there are a chance that a deal for Adam could be hijacked by another club like Spurs, United or Villa? Hope so because I really don't understand what all the fuss about Adam is about. Fingers crossed Meireles and Aqua all the way {Ed029's Note - It seems to be done and dusted and he wants to come to us so it 99% nailed on. I'd rather have Adam that wants to play for the club than Aqua who doesn't want to play for the club}

06 Jul 2011 20:47:01
Just a personal opinion, lots and lots of rumours about various wide players hopefully comin but i want to make a point about what that will mean for Kuyt, in my opinion our player of the year last season, he is someone who gives everything to the cause, works harder than everyone and certainly delivered last season. will he be played as a forward, yes he is not quick when played out wide but i cannott envisage a LFC team without him in it.

06 Jul 2011 20:33:46
Some people on here talk absolute bobbins sometimes For everybody who says downing is too much and shouldn't go over 16 million are the same people who if united come in for him (which has been mentioned a few times) will complain that we should just bid more to get are man Stop complaining the guy is class and a constant international, who when villa played us at home was the best player on the pitch whipping balls in from the half way line as if they where from the corner flag Perfect player in my opinion for the wing

06 Jul 2011 20:32:06
heard a rumour that stevies groin op is the last he can have on that area if it goes again thats it could explain our caution with him.
also heard from a sunderland fan that henderson is not a centre mid but is much better on the right could these two be the reason in us signing adam as i never thought centre mid would of been one of our top priorities.

EDS love are site pukka stuff.we are getting the players in slow like it sweet as, in king kenny i trust. god its just so nice to sit an see us get players in.now ed this is when some of are fans are like well no big time star players coming in dont cry open your eyes hahaha get real boys an girls..we have some dam fine players in are team WE ARE ON THE UP, meaning when we get are top 4 spot back thats when big big star names come are way.this is just starting an we moving on up, but boy im liking how this is going.1 we are safe.2 young players coming in.3 sorting out players not wanted.4 are team will have a team an a bench of players that we can all now look at an say yer on yer come change the game, we have not had options.......................... maybe raheem sterling one of the youngsters going to blackpool to get some first team experience before he takes liverpool by storm

06 Jul 2011 20:23:49
Got told today that Napoli and fiorentina are the latest clubs to have enquired about Aquilani.
Aquilani's replacement looks set to be the Comolli favourite Moussa Sissoko, a fee of 14 million should be enough to capture him.

In other news blackburn, bolton and Stoke have been sniffing around Kryiakos with Blackburn looking to replace Jones, bolton preparing for the exit of Cahill and Stoke looking to strengthen their defence.

In my own opinion Adam's arrival is a signal to the departure of merieles (sadly) I was told the other week that inter Milan enquired about him and are offering one of santon, chivu, coutinho(suprised me) or stankovic as a option to be included in any deal as well as £13 million, if i was Kenny I'd be cheeky and ask for coutinho & santon plus 8 million, couldn't see that happening player swaps are rare these days.

One more thing i have been told that Doni will sign on my birthday (July 8th)
What do you make of that Ed?
Thanks
Dan {Ed028's Note - Err, happy birthday for Friday?!}

06 Jul 2011 20:29:34
just been looking through our team and I think we could make a great Lord of the Rings re-anactment.

Our new LW might be Gorgain'-Insol the Mordorian international, after he was talked into it by Skrtel, Flannagen, Shelvey and Spearing. -Mc

06 Jul 2011 20:22:02
{Ed009's Note - Mata is far from completed and no one should get ahead of themselves, but I feel positive about the idea of a transfer for the player - he would be very interested and Villa's aggressive over-pricing could lead us to try for him instead.}
Ed009:
I 'll repeat what I replied to you a week or so ago, I dont think Mata will be leaving Spain and not to us any way .. I hope I will be proven wrong , but cant see us getting him as things stand atm.
I think Downing will happen before the end of this month.

Roy
******
From what I have heard there is quite a good chance he will be leaving Spain and coming to England.

Now were Getting Started with Adam deal seeming to be in the bag this could pave the way for downing, Doni and Mata to come in
If bastos and lavezzi sign that will be great news for the club and Enrique could be also paving a move
Heres a couple of players who i think would be great signings and that many people (Including you eds you can say something here) may disagree with
scott Parker
jay Bothroyd
mario Gomez
xabi Alonso
Andr Santos
Edinson Cavani

06 Jul 2011 20:12:14
Hi eds/macca,
If you look at the lfc website of both pics of Adam arriving and having his medical, it looks as if his hair is a different length/style.
It looks like these were taken on different days does it not? Does this maybe suggest a deal was agreed and medical agreed before today?
NiRed {Ed028's Note - They were all taken today}

06 Jul 2011 20:12:47
Looking at alot of peoples realistic teams for the season and not alot of them have henderson in them. Do you guys reckon we've spent 16 million on someone that's going to warm the bench? What do the editors think. First team now or bought for the future?

Thanks

06 Jul 2011 20:12:18
Late one for you boys tonight eds? Get the red bulls in {Ed028's Note - I prefer Relentless!}

06 Jul 2011 20:11:05
Three more signings and the premiership is assured
MATA, BAINES, CROUCH.

06 Jul 2011 20:04:50
eds can you answer a question please, when lfc went in for signing gareth barry av played hard ball and upted the price regardless at the time barry saying he wanted to join lfc. we pulled out of that signing, now the same is happening with downing, av are again playing hard ball with lfc. wouldnt it be better to pull out of this one and go sign mata or someone else. we never seem to get any joy when it comes to trying to sign players from av. {Ed002's Note - Negotiation is a two way street. If Liverpool are bidding for Downing then they want him. Aston Villa want the best deal they can get. The clubs are close enough for an answer to be found.}

06 Jul 2011 20:04:29
Absolutely amazed that we seem to have signed Adam without any challenge from the other big teams. Suppose man city and chelsea wouldnt want him because he hasnt got some foreign name, however surprised scum didnt go and try to sign him.
he will be an absolute class signing for us just what we need and he is someone who has desperately wanted to sign for LFC he understands our history and values, he is not someone who wants to sign for big bucks and then leave in a couple of years. GREAT SIGNING KENNY, onto the next one.

06 Jul 2011 19:58:10
{Ed009's Note - I expect we'll hear more news this week, on whoever we do sign - simply because we want to get them to Asia with us. Whether thats Downing or not depends on how far Villa go.}
-----------------------------------------

why do we care about bring them to asia, I didn't think the best players played a whole lot on these tours. just wondering, this is not an attack.

06 Jul 2011 19:56:51
Don't know how much some fans remember but we used to sign players that did damage to us, Wark, Robinson, Walsh, McMahon. I go the matches and players that I thought caused us problems where Young, Downing, Adam, Walcott, Jarvis. Im not surprised at the British players being priority as they will settle quickly and will fit into the KK culture. I think the squad is looking good, be better with Downing, I for one rate him.

Evo YNWA

06 Jul 2011 19:53:49
Being a bit reminiscent here but good knows how good the likes of anelka, morientes, keane and Bellamy would have been under KK. All quality on paper but didnt hit potential.

Jim

Welcome Charlie, now take your place and write your name in Liverpool history like many others from scotland have already done, be a legend. ynwa. northfed.

06 Jul 2011 19:46:38
Zapata agrees 7 million euro's move to Udinese, WTF... That is ridiculous, why has LFC not gone in for such a highly rated player at that sort of price, when Dann will cost double that... Proven premiership I know, i know, but hey you gotta take a risk now and then, esp when we still have 4 proven premiership defenders whilst he settles in

06 Jul 2011 19:28:05
Zapata agreed deal with Villareal - SSN, ah well lets go get players who want to play for our glorious club, and that certainly looks like Park Chu Young is just that man as our third striker option, what do you think eds? {Ed028's Note - Exactly, if his heart was never in it he doesn't deserve to wear the shirt, not sure about Chu Young I've never seen him play}

06 Jul 2011 19:26:15
Zapata to Villareal. Another very good player lost through our hands. But I believe, Kenny is looking elsewhere, or else he would have been a red, than yellow. YNWA

06 Jul 2011 19:22:57
ed you heard anything about poulson to blackpool ?? there is a little whisper {Ed002's Note - I have not heard such rumours - seems more like wishful thinking.}

06 Jul 2011 19:22:48
Glen Johnson contract extension:
"His best years are to come. Very often defenders peak between 26 and 31, so he is just entering into those years where a maturity comes in and his knowledge of the game gets better and better. We are happy his long-term future is at Liverpool."

Damion Comolli

*can anyone shed any light on extension length?*

Really not sure about the Adam transfer, on one hand he played a massive part in getting Blackpool promoted, and if he hadn't of had his head turned in Jan would of prob kept them up.

But will he be the same player when when in a red shirt and put under the pressure that the Liverpool midfielders get put under, can he still play those defence splitting balls when he's got his head down or will he just give away possession (the difference between a good cm and a exceptional one, I hope he can).

The main area that I feel that really need addressing is, the lack of pace, it's blistering pace that puts the fear of god into defenders (there's no point beating a defender, if they can catch u again 2 yards later). It's pace that keeps the defenders camped on the edge of the penalty box. Giving the technically gifted players time on the ball, to get their head up a rip teams apart (hence why Spurs have been successful the last 2 years, with Bale 1 side, Lennon the other and Modric pulling the strings in the middle).

But hopefully he'll hit the ground running and start the season as he did last year then after new year (he can recover from his hangover) and Raul M can finish season as he did last season.

Plus his set piece threat last season was probably the best in the premiership (not sure though haven't checked).

feel free to obliterate me

06 Jul 2011 19:42:25
Hi Ed I was just wondering why everone is moaning about how many midfielders we have
Dont we play a 4-2-3-1 line up?
And I am sure we should have two players for each posistion and then a youngster too?
Also I really hope we get Mata over Downing (although both good) I just think Mata is a little better.
Do you know who are surprise signin may be?
Great Job ED and its my first post :)

06 Jul 2011 19:34:20
Eds, as we have seen today, you guys do have the contacts, so what is your current understanding of the downing situation, will liverpool be putting in another bid or will they be shopping elsewhere? Many thanks, Cornish Scoucer {Ed028's Note - I think there will be a final offer, we won't be held to ransom}

06 Jul 2011 19:32:48
so, Adam all but done, Doni all but agreed and Downing bit rejected...twice

If this is quiet, can't wait till it kicks off

By the way, hope Mata is next and I reckon he will be

Source...Gut feel lol {Ed028's Note - Sometimes the reliable source!}

06 Jul 2011 19:32:08
Cristian Zapata has shunned Liverpool's interest and agreed a deal with Villarreal.
carn't say im not disapointed

06 Jul 2011 19:32:05
ed do you know how much was the fee for adam that had been accepted? {Ed028's Note - We believe £9m in total inc future fee's}

06 Jul 2011 19:29:30
Charlie adam is signed, sealed and delivered... just a front man, lb and hopefuly a few wingers along with doni who according to goal.com will sign within the next 36 hrs.. Y.N.W.A

06 Jul 2011 19:28:58
Ed, why did Adam not do his medical today? {Ed028's Note - He did do his medical today! Pictures on LFC website prove such, the signing will most likely be completed in the morning}

06 Jul 2011 19:12:05
welcome to liverpool fc charlie. ynwa

06 Jul 2011 19:12:01
Charlie Adam is a steal at even twice the fee we paid for him. He is the one player who will make the most difference to us this year mark my words. We will compete again at last, and given a bit of luck there is no reason why we can't be in the shakeup come May 2012. Now for Downing (who will also be sensational at LFC) & a decent left back and we're there. Long live the King.

Josek

06 Jul 2011 19:08:43
C ya Neva put my comment up about me being right about us signing a player today or is it because I have more info than you ed {Ed028's Note - Apologies, it's been a very busy day, we can't post absolutely every post although we try our hardest.}

06 Jul 2011 19:03:48
Ed is there current interest in the following lavezzi, hazard, cavani, aguero? {Ed028's Note - Passing interest in Lavezzi, nothing substantial on the others}

06 Jul 2011 19:03:27
Is it just me or does it appear that Adam has slimmed down in the summer? He looks thinner in the pics at Melwood {Ed028's Note - I agree, he does look slimmer}

06 Jul 2011 18:43:15
EDS who do we think the english clubs who are in contact with mata's agents ? {Ed028's Note - I know Ourselves and Arsenal possibly others are monitoring the situation nothing more}

06 Jul 2011 18:36:54
Thank God Mr Adam finally found melwood for his medical......Me thinks he should start to use maps because obviously Sat Nav Sally kept him aiming for Whitehart Lane At last you found us Welcome aboard C Adam....YNWA>>>>>

En Liverpool nuevamente, espero poder quedarme y aportarle algo al equipo, estoy con muchas ganas de sumar
In Liverpool again, i hope to be here this season and to give something to the team, I am with energy to do it.

???
does any one think hes got a chance ?? are we still looking for a left back

06 Jul 2011 18:16:35
Ed, do you think with Comolli complimenting Johnson on being able to play at left back, could be hinting that he could be playing their permanently next season? Or am I reading too much into something ...

ToonRed {Ed028's Note - Your probably reading a little too much into it}

06 Jul 2011 18:16:21
Not a rumor but I wanted to say that for me the Eds are the most reliable sources out there

I have been a regular on this site for over a year now and you guys keep improving

Ed002 love your sarcasm mate haha

Evening Eds just a quick question regarding Brad Jones, It is well known about news regarding his son and the news was that Brad had been released from his contract, but looking on official LFC website he is shown at pre season training. Is this just a case of waiting for a new keeper to come in before he leaves or has the situation changed? I'm sure all lfc supporters would like to wish Brad all the best maybe a charity game could be set up. just wondered if you could clear this up for me. many thanks keep up the excellent work. {Ed028's Note - I'm not sure sorry, I can only guess}

Seen the pics of training and Insua looks lean(er), i reckon KK is going to give him a chance aswell as seeking Enrique to provide competion at LB...I can also see Aquaman staying.

Can you imagine being a CB against Liverpool next season:

You are tasked with marking Carroll on set pieces,
the best you can hope for is a facefull of his shoulder as he steams through you, clearly winning the header.

Luis gets the ball and skins you not once but 90% of the time, truely taking the piss. Then you have to close down and block long range efforts from Adam, Carroll, Stevie and Luis each one knocking the living crap out of you.

At half time you face your manager telling you what a complete tit you are, as you duck his flying cup of tea.

More of the same punishment in the second half until the ref blows for full time.

Another bollocking off your manager until you make a quick exit and set off for home. "How was your day babe" as you walk through the door.....'don't ask' as you skulk off to spend the next 2hrs looking blankly at the mirror, questioning you own ability as a footballer.

The final insult is watching the Legend Hansen rip your performance apart as truely awful. You lay down and slowly begin to weep, knowing you have been violated.

Think we are going to beast alot of teams next season. Cannot wait

I love how fickle some of our fans are only yesterday were there complaints of not signing anyone, Adam and Downing not good enough, Comolli out, Kenny doesn't have a clue. Haha what a difference 24 hours makes all of a sudden the eds are wonderfull again comolli is a business genius for getting Adam for under £10 mil and were all wishing Downing would sign today.
I love being a liverpool fan all these young one will one day understand what it means and the way our great club conducts its business on and of the field.Maybe this is the start of the way things were when i was young and naive back in the early 80's, when all the unknown and average players became world beaters playing for liverpool.
We don't get great players at liverpool we make them great.

A while ago I posted about my colleague having the honour of looking after Mark Lawro for an hour or so at the Gary Neville testimonial day. A lot of people didn't believe me, not sure if this was the Lawro bit or who I said was 100% nailed on. I stated three facts:

1) That my mate spent an hour with Lawro
2) Charlie Adam was 100% nailed on
3) King Kenny was looking at 5/6 players

I'm not claiming to have been the first on the Adam thing, The Eds and macca were way ahead. What I am saying is that some of the rumours will come true and a lot won't, however this is a rumour site, which I admit slated once and realised how petty I was being

To the Eds, macca and everyone else who genuinely post what they think will happen, well done and thanks.

To all the rest, get real, its fun and addictive, so what if a lot is folly, enjoy it

By the way, my predictions () for the KK 5/6 list are:

1) Charlie Adam - Done Deal ()
2) Henderson - Done deal that no one predicted ()
3) Doni - Nearly Done deal ()
4) Downing - May get done deal ()
5) Enrique - May get done deal ()
6) Dann - May get done deal ()

I also believe that we will go for a big one near the end as already mentioned by macca. This will be dependant on of course many factors, the main ones being a) moving players on and b) Who else is after them as lets face it most will go to champions league clubs first.

Finally, my prediction for the big one is either:

1) Neymar
2) Pastore

Hi ed, not rele a rumour just though I would share a weird thing that I signed Jordan Henderson and charlie Adam on my FIFA game they are now both signed (Adam having medical) and also signed mata and Adam Johnson who we have both been linked with I also signed clichy who was a target but went to man city Just thought it was funny looking at transfer targets and I have already signed them lol

06 Jul 2011 18:49:36
One thing i've noticed about the 3 English lads we've signed this year, Carroll, Henderson, Adam, is not just the fact they are talented, but they are humble lads. They appreciate the talent they have, they appreciate the opportunity they have and respect the badge on their shirt.
I believe KK as much as buying a talented player, is buying lads with the right personality that fits with the culture he is trying to return to our beloved club.
A team of super-talented lads who play for themselves as good as they are will find it tough going against a great team who play for the badge on their shirt, the 11 men on the park, their manager and most importantly the fans.
In Kenny we trust bring on Downing I say

I think all the talk of one marquee major 25m+ signing before the transfer window closes is ridiculous. We are in a stage of rebuilding and developing atm and world class stars arent just going to que up to join a club not even curently in Europe.
That being said i think we should definately capatalise on the potential world-class talents that we must seem an attractive prosepect to (due to first team football and our tradition).
The likes of Udinese's Zapata, Valencia's Mata and Lyon's Cissokho fit those requirements and FSG's policy. Fingers crossed KK sees it that way because those guys would majorly lift our squad.

I am happy that Adam deal is done and also that the Downing deal is gathering pace. All Enrique signs are positive at moment and Doni deal seems almost there. Mata bid also seems to be there, but there is competition. I am very happy with all of these deals which seem definite possibilities.

Obviously transfer funds are not exhaustive but I do think even though we have a formidable force in Carroll and Suarez, with Kuyt as proven strike force too. Ngog I believe has no future at LFC. On this basis and the fact carroll isnt 100% and injuries happen during the season, I think another striker would be useful. Not a marquee big money signing but a decent striker to come on as impact player or allow for something different. I don't think it would be a bad deal that when Modric leaves spurs that we use Joe cole as a make weight or straight swap for Defoe. Decent player, pace, knows where net is, can poach and something different to Carroll and Suarez.

If the ssn news is anything to go by the fee agreed for adam is less than 7 million, sum shrewd business if you ask me.Nw that the adam saga has cum 2 a conclusion i hope my fellow redmen will have more hope for the remainder of the transfer window and this is a sign of good things to come but at the same time lets also keep our feet on the ground and be realistic with some of our wishes forget us signing the likes of higuain, nasri n aguero but thats not to say we r not big enough to attract such names its jst our current position bt trust me this tym nxt year all the big name players will b crawling to us.

Ed's

Not a message worth posting but just wondering if one of you guys/Gals is Chris from Tamworth? That he is an alter ego you use to get back at the sometime not too bright posters on this page. because in all my years surfing the net ( and there have been a lot) i have never ever met such a consistently angry poster.

From the abuse you gals/guys take i think Old Chris is warranted and must be a form of pressure relief. But I am really hopeful* and looking forward to a post from him that is positive. You will probbably hear a thump when it happens because i will have fallen off my chair.

*(Hopeful in this case is equal to our chances of signing sergio Aguero, Neymar, Higuain, LLorente this summer and then playing them in 0-4-6 Formation (Reina, Mata, Adam, henderson, Adam johnson, Agureo, Neymar, higuain carroll, Llorente and Suarez).

Regards

There is a lot of players linked with our club, not to mention all the league 1 players linked and i think they are all hot air. LFC should make MATA 1st priority and get that ball rolling and snap him up quickly, just like the signing of the decade SUAREZ. Downing and Adam good players and will sign just a matter of time, the thing worring me is the signing of keeper Doni who is not going to rot on the bench, so alarms are ringing on Reina leaving for me. It also would be interesting who the players going to blakpool are in the Adam deal. I also havent got a clue who is going to be playing LB for LFC next season but Jose Enrique is a realistic target. LFC need another CB too and Scott Dann fits the bill.

From many sources that i have heard we hare moving on from downing as villa are not budging on there 20 million valuation and liverpool are not prepared to pay more than 15 million for him, it also says we have turned are priority to mata... i was wondering what do you rate out of 10 mata as a player and out of 10 how likely that we will get him? {Ed002's Note - As a player I am not prepared to rate him. 06 Jul 2011 17:35:42
Hey Ed, hows it going?

I've got a question for you, since Adam is all but done and it looks as if he's joining us. You've said that Aquilani and Poulsen will be the first priority in offloading. Assuming that they ARE offloaded, that still leaves 6 central midfielders which may be a bit much.

Can you see Meireles leaving this window? I honestly don't see how it makes sense in him leaving and I get a sense of De-ja-vu when I hear it. Alonso was instrumental in us finishing second in the 08-09 season, he left and we finished 7th. I feel the same will happen this season if we let go of Meireles as he IS an important part of the starting XI.

If anyone was to be offloaded, I hate to say it, it should be Spearing and not Meireles, even taking age into account.

Or do you think that Gerrard and Henderson will be played on the right, as they both deliver good crosses more often then not.

Thanks {Ed002's Note - Meireles will leave for sure, and I suspect that Shelvey may go out on loan or be shipped out completely.}

Carrol, Suarez, Henderson, Adam. And the best thing of all? You can start to see the kind of squad that KK wants; all very committed players, good athletes, leaders. Tell you what, with Adam-Lucas-Henderson-Stevie G in mid field and Carrol and Suarez scaring the knackers off centre backs, visiting teams are not going to enjoy Anfield this year eh? Not many shirked tackles from that lot is there? My cousin played against KK in Scotland in 70's and he said one minute he amazed with his skill, balance, flicks, all angled passes and curling shots etc. But his strongest memory of playing against KK? He was very, very hard to tackle and if he came for the ball he was as hard as any hairy arsed centre back. That's what KK is building, a football game about steeley physical presence as well as the skill and leaders all over the park who work hard day in, day out. That to me is LFC. Good times ahead. Drew.

2nd post ever - i have noticed the same questions coming over and over to do with the same names now, downing, mata, enrique (adam not any more) and the same answers being given (fair play for keeping your sanity guys) but something that is kind of concerning me and would be good if you could shed some light on it please, is..

you have stated on numerous occasions, that we will only sort one deal at a time before doing any others? why is this? with the personnel that we have on board, our owners background, id have hoped we could be dealing more deals at any one time - as other clubs seem to be managing it and id hate for that to hinder us in this market, as this probabaly our most important one of that last decade...

cheers guys

Ray {Ed002's Note - I am afraid I can't help you here as I have never said that. If I had to guess, I would say it is because Liverpool only own one cheque book and pen, so they cannot be in two places at once.}

Charlie Adam's biggest weakness is his big head. If he isn't the main with the responsibility he doesn't want to know it. He'll disappear in the big matches. Be prepared to be disappointed Scousers, he is a dumplin.

Come january...don't say I didn't warn you.

adam in is great news,
also expect downing to be agreed soon, anyone pondering about mata a potential move is being negotiated this week with us and also arsenal, enrique will be the next target with no further strikers in unless we offload the players that kenny has deemed surplus to requirements.
so all looks good and with the possibility of potential additions towards the end of the window we'll be ok.

06 Jul 2011 17:12:45
I know I may get shouted at and abused fo saying this but Charlie Adam looks a bit like a Hodgson/Benites signing. (think robbie keane) he played well in the blackpool system and also benefited from being the star player. I just think that he is too one dimensional and will not fit in with the liverpool way. However I will give him a chance as I think KK is quality

Gutted we look like missing out on Dann, thought he would have been a great signing, but I can only assume his injury record counted against him. I don't think Skrtel is good enough for us, I hope he proves me wrong but he's looked shakey for a few seasons now. Add to this the fact that Carragher is getting on, Agger is constantly injured and Kyrgiakos makes a lot of mistakes, and our defence looks very iffy. I hope Kelly can step up next season but I think we need to sign a top centre back this summer, and Dann looks quality to me. Ah well, here's hoping for Sakho then

Hi ED,

Great site and well done for knowing about the Adam deal before everyone else.

Can you explain how Downing handing in a transfer request will help us agree a fee with Villa? He has already made it clear to Villa he wants to leave so what good is a request, or can Villa accept a lower transfer fee as they no longer have to pay the player a 'loyalty bonus'?

Hey eds,
Just wondering, if it is in fact shelvey going to Blackpool on a season long loan, will he get much first team football? I'd hate to see his progress stifled by sitting on the bench in the championship for a whole season. {Ed002's Note - I don't know of any details just yet.}

I know the signings so far are not setting the world alight But i recall last season when we played Spurs, our starting 11 was'nt to bad but when i looked at what we had on the bench N'gog, Kyg, Maxi etc. As aposed to Spurs with Crouch, Defoe and Kranj etc we looked very weak. Thats been a big part of our down turn the fact we HAD no depth, now look at the big picture....Thats right its looking strong, this squad is being built to get us back in the CL. Then we go after the 'marquee' players, hence players we sign now having resale value.Its all going to plan thus far

I personally believe Henderson will be used as a right midfielder putting crosses in from deep and cutting inside to allow Johnson to bomb on past.

We will sign a Downing type player (if not the man himself) getting chalk on his boots, getting to the byeline and putting in crosses.

Then we will rotate the centre mids.

If we can sign a left back that should be the left side sorted. I think a striker will be signed, but i think it will depend on whether we get our main position targets first.

What do you think eds?

I am not ITK just my personal opinion.

People who list Daniel Agger in the "deadwood"/"players out" catagory need to have a word with themselves. I think that Agger (when fit) is arguably our best CB. Obviously people may want rid of the lad because he has been injury prone of late, but like I say, for me he's right up there. Lets get him match fit and 1st choice along side Carra until he's ready to retire.

Defo one to keep. 100%.

I'm pretty sure that the people unhappy with the Adam deal (including me as I prefered Banega) would has said the same thing when we signed Mcallister.

If we look at what he did we may have another masterstroke on our hands. Let's give him a chance and support the fella.

"Doni is in Italy right now. We just have to ratify certain details with Roma. If the deal is completed, Doni will join Liverpool on a free transfer and will sign a two-year contract.

"Doni is very happy with the chance to go to Liverpool and play in the Premier League.

Doni's agent Ovidio Colucci said.

Glen Johnson contract extension:
"His best years are to come. Very often defenders peak between 26 and 31, so he is just entering into those years where a maturity comes in and his knowledge of the game gets better and better. We are happy his long-term future is at Liverpool."

I hope downing doesn't go through.. he's not upto it. But should he come i'll give him support. This isn't a problem with adam... he has everything to be amazing. the only thing i thought last season was he wasn't fit enough... and Kenny and SC will whip him into shape and he'll be amazing. P.S. We've never won the league without a scotsman in he side...

Hi ed's and reds.

With the signing of Mr Adam we seem to have an awful lot of centre midfielders. What are the eds and everyone's opinion of this? And what formation do we think the king is looking to play with the weighting to the centre of the park?

Cheers

I wasn't keen on getting Adam as I think he's overrated however now he is a Liverpool player so I am right behind him and he will get my full support through thick and thin (hopefully not too much thin). I hope ALL Liverpool fans will take the same approach to whoever KK signs.
(I'd still like to see a couple of the following: Llorente, Barrios, Pjanic, Lovren, Mata, Sakho and Cissokho but still)

i dont think aqua is going to leave and to be honest i hope we give him a go. i like him from what ive seen of him and ive heard steve g rates him very highly. great signing today.adam is a good team player. good to hear glen johnson signing a new deal.

06 Jul 2011 16:43:57
about joe cole, i reckon he should stay because he was amazing a few seasons ago and he was skilling every1 but now he doesnt seem to do it. i reckon if kk can get him to be more confident and get him performing well and maybe taking abit of a paycut (probably not) or maybe a pay as you play contract as he does seem to be injury prone {Ed009's Note - he won't accept a pay as you play contract, but a pay cut is possible, I suppose.}

Apologies ed first of all, I'm trying to catch up, [I've been to the Algarve for a few days], is there any players going in the other direction as part of the Adam deal? I've looked at previous posts but cant see anything.

Welcome aboard Charlie, here's hoping your the first of a few more in the next few weeks which will improve the squad.

E.D.

Congrats on the Adam information, must admit my source knew nothing about the Adam situation.

But i understand that we are signing Adam for less than 7 million im not sure if this is true or not though.

By the way do you know anything about negotiations between Valencia and Liverpool over Juan Mata, apparently we have submitted a 22 million bid for the player according to a source

Thanxs E.D. and keep up the great work

Would like us to sign the following this season.

S. Cazorla.
J. Mata.
D. Santon.
K. Honda.
M. Zarate.

And a centre half. Ed would you say any likely?

I'm aware we have interest in Mata plus we have apparently put an 18 million bid on the table for Cazorla, but what about the others? I think all would be class signings.

I've posted this before but haven't got much response. Does anyone else think that KD may have one eye on putting Gerrard in a wide position. We've got (assuming Adam's medical goes ok) a load of CM's to fill 2 places. I don't think it'd be a bad thing putting him out there, he can beat players and cross as well, if not better than some of the 20m + players we are being linked with.
If you disagree with me please tell me how these players will be utilised. An opinion from the ed's would be nice too.

06 Jul 2011 15:57:53
milan jovanivic is free to look for a new clb ed can you explain to my the diference of tearing up there contract and that the club says you are free to look for a new club?? {Ed002's Note - The difference between a contract being cancelled and a player being offered on a free transfer is what you need. If a contract is to be cancelled, Liverpool will be liable for the outstanding wages and any other outstanding fees (such as unpaid signing on fee) to be paid in cash. So if a player earns £50k per week, has £1M of his signing on fee unpaid and has two years remaining on his contract, then cancelling his contract will cost the club £6M. If the player is made available on a free transfer, then the wages cease to be an issue and the liability would only be £1M. As an example, tearing up the contracts of Cole, Jovanovic and Poulsen would likely cost Liverpool about £25M or so in hard cash.}

Yessss Finally we got our man I don't understand why many LFC fans are moaning about the signing of Adam This guy is awesome and I am sure he will be one of our best signing ever. Now I can say we have a natural leader in our team and his association with Gerard and Henderson will be deadly. His through ball to Suarez and Caroll, his set pieces, his free kicks Thank you Mr Henry, Comolli and our King. Now please get Mata/Downing and Bastos and we will be deadly next season.

Hi ed's just wondered do you think that glen Johnson would be able to play as a permanent right winger as he seems to be good going forward {Ed009's Note - it was planned that we would try that last season, but injurys meant that it was simply impractical. I think we could see him try out there in pre-season perhaps and see how it goes. I imagine he could become wing back and right midfield cover.}

06 Jul 2011 16:28:17

i hear that the doni deal is nearly complete and most sites are saying he will be backup for reina. does this mean that brad jones will be leaving as i think he is quite good. maybe loan him out so he can get more first team experience with a championship club or something, i live in portsmouth and one of my m8s said pompey are looking for a gk and i suggested jones and he seemed to like the sound of it.

To all you Adam and Downing doubters, they're classic Liverpool signings, unassuming characters who will fit well within a system. Ray Houghton, Ronnie Whealon, Jan Molby same type of good footballing Liverpool type of player without the frills. Great signings. Go on Kenny.

06 Jul 2011 16:11:47
wow .. First Henderson and now Adam .. KK - are you loosing the plot ..we not even going to finish in top 10 with these players {Ed009's Note - good one. So our team has got better but we'll finish worse?}

06 Jul 2011 16:09:13
Ed, the way yous are all talking is making me think there could be some more news tonight {Ed009's Note - we'll just have to wait and see. The club are doing their best to make progress before we leave this weekend.}

06 Jul 2011 16:08:27
Just wanted to spread the word, on SSN they just announced the Adam deal they beileve is in the region of under 7 mill. I wasn't the most exicted about Adam but for 7 mill is a bargin in my opinion :) {Ed009's Note - the deal is 9 million pounds with all adds on from what I know.}

06 Jul 2011 16:08:09
Ed, do you think we really need a new CB. We have Carra, Skrtel, the Greek, Agger, Kelly and Ayala (is he back from loan?).

Actually just thinking about the names I have just typed, I would like a top quality replacement for either the Greek or Agger.

What do you think?

Fabain Treezle {Ed009's Note - Personally I think we should look to sign just one top quality centre back, to partner Agger when fit, and a mix of Carra and Skrtel when not. Dann would be a very good option but could move to Stoke and I suppose it is not a priority.}

06 Jul 2011 16:06:01
A few sites claiming Mata is going to sign for £25 million any truth in it? {Ed002's Note - Don't get carried away just yet.}

Squad List - as it currently stands officially.

1. Jones (Expected to leave)

4. Meireles (Could possibly leave)
5. Agger (Could possibly leave)
6. Aurelio

12. Pacheco (Expected Loan)
14. Jovanovic (Expected to leave)
16. Kyrgiakos

18. Kuyt
21. Lucas
22. D Wilson (Expected Loan)
23. Carragher
24. Ngog (Expected to leave)
25. Reina
26. Spearing
28. Poulsen (Expected to leave)
30. Suso
31. Sterling
32. Darby (Expected to leave)
33. Shelvey (Expected Loan)
34. Kelly
35. Coady
37. Skrtel
38. Flanagan
39. Eccleston (Expected to leave)
40. Ayala (Expected Loan)
41. Hansen
42. Gulacsi
44. Mendy
45. Ince
46. Amoo
47. Wisdom
48. Bruna
49. Robinson
- Adam
- Aquilani (Expected to leave)
- Degen (Expected to leave)
- El Zhar (Expected to leave)
- Henderson
- Insua (Expected Loan)

I make that 46 players in total excluding other Academy players.

With at least 11 expected to leave, 3 that could possibly leave and AT least 5 to go on loan. Which would leave around 27 players.

All guesses and no found evidence just info from weeks of rumours and speculation.

First time post, but hopefully first of many, so will keep it short and sweet.

Firstly, really good site, i have been monitoring for about a week now

I to spotted the Charlie Adam news that you broke about the medical hrs earlier, so i went to place a bet on the bookies and they had even suspended it then as was nowhere to be found

so thanks for the quality of information and an almost thanks for nearly winning me some money, ha

will look forward to news that you bring and feel free to throw in, who you think would realistically be worth a little bet on

Cheers Eds......

Now that Charlie has come, i would want LFC to eject Joe Cole, Jovanovic, Meireles and Poulsen but not Aquilani. Aquilani in my opinion is far better all those four at the moment. If we can have Gerrard, Lucas, Adam and Aquilani, i think we plenty of depth in the area.

As for the rumours, i can surely see Mata being signed within the next week as Adam deal is what was taking long and LFC might have the idea to "get their man" before moving on. As for the surprise signing, i believe it might and its a heavy might, be......Theo Walcott. I mean lets face it, Arsenal is a sinking ship just like LFC was under H&G, if LFC put in a bid of about 20-25m, there is no way on earth that Walcott would not come, even if Chelsea decide to put 50m, because he is a life long LFC fan. I bet can even take a small paycut to join us.

Our marquee signing will come in the striking department, i dont know who it will be, but i think it will be someone in the region of Suarez money i.e. 22 - 30m and young offcourse. The leftback position i think will be covered by Emiliano Insua with Robinson learning from him because they are both young and would get on well than Robbo and Aurelio or Konman....

Now that we have Adam, I think I know where KD is going with the team. He is probably replacing the center backs and full backs with midfielders.

Reina
Henderson Adam Lucas Spearing
Gerrard Meireles Aquilani Cole
Suarez Carroll

Yes, a ridiculously deep midfield. Ofcourse I am being cynical, but really, what is the deal with all the midfielders? Surely Gerrard will be put up front or on the wing. Can't see us buying Adam and Henderson and benching one/both of them. Sure we may sell a few players, but what if we can't?

Liverpool have agreed a deal with Blackpool to sign Charlie Adam.
The Scottish midfielder will now travel to Merseyside for a medical and to discuss personal terms.
Adam, 25, has been linked with a move to Anfield since January but the Reds were believed to be put off by his £12million valuation.
However, they have now had an undisclosed offer accepted by the Seasiders and Adam is set to become Kenny Daglish's second summer signing, following Jordan Henderson's £20m move from Sunderland.
Adam's arrival will fuel speculation Raul Meireles could be on his way out of the club, with Dalgish now boasting an array of central midfielders.

there's a big difference in opinion about the adam signing, only thing i'll say is i thought the reason liverpool is widely regarded as having 1 of the greatest sets of supporters around europe is because we support "the team" 110% wether you like it or not adam is a liverpool player now (or will be soon) and he should be treated as such, only time will tell if things work out for him but until then he should be greeted with the same support as gerrard, suarez etc every time he pulls on the shirt otherwise our "famous support" stands for nothing. I for 1 welcome him with open arms

Ryanmc73 {Ed002's Note - I assume that this is a spoof post. If you read any of the posts here you will see a large proportion are full of hate for indiviidual players, the old owners, the new owners, Comolli, Dalglish, players who have yet to sign and the tea lady at Melwood.}

Hi fellow Reds,

Just wanted to confirm something that I had said all the way back in January.(feel free to verify this)

Liverpool are trying to sign more African players, and they are going to bid for none other than Ghanaian striker: Asamoah Gyan...

Kenny Daglish sees him as a somewhat different sort of player compared to Andy Carrol, Luis Suarez and Dirk Kuyt.
Pace, Power and Premiership experience is vital... but as Daglish has demonstrated, he wants players who are willing to give everything for the sake of the club, and anybody who has seen Gyan play can verify that he certainly does not lack passion on the field.

Faizal

i seriously doubt they would team up suarez and gyan after what happened at the world cup, could be wrong though

If Adam signs for us then I think it will end all our transfer links with midfielders even Alonso.
I for one would be happy if we get Adam and Downing. For right wing a player like Adam Johnson and a decent left back, a back up striker of Asian back ground, Doni and Sakho will be enough. Then we must add younsters like Pacheco, Suso, Sterling to the side.
Everyone knows about Kenny. He done a good job with the squad he has and the mentality of players at that time, also Torres left at crucial time. Iam sure this team can compete any LEAGUE team.
Its all about team game. Chelsea can't even win one champions league with the team and managers they have. Real Madrid not even close to Barcelona. Moreover look at the team when we won 2005 champions league. What do you think ed

Hi All, This is a question for Ed002.

I know you are a Chelsea fan but do you have a soft spot for Liverpool, as you tend to stick up for the owners and KK more than some of the fans on here?

Also do you not Charlie Adam as a player or have you any dealing with him as a person?

Thanks John Wigan {Ed002's Note - I will certainly stick up for the owners and the manager - they must be given a chance. As for Adam, I don't think he is as good a player as he is hyped up to be. I have never met him.}

06 Jul 2011 13:15:56
Ed when did we have a bid for Adam accepted?

Ed whats goin on with the Downing affair. Utd paid 17m for a better winger in Young. How are we goin to get stung to pay more for Downing? Shurely go all out for Mata for the wing {Ed002's Note - I have given my view on this already - please make the effort to read the posts.}

06 Jul 2011 13:29:10
For weeks and months we've listened to this growing cacophony of moans and groans about how there's "no value" in the market.
Fair enough.

But a bit of perspective is needed here. We know that English players now come at a premium, largely owing to the Homegrown rule.

So virtually everytime you buy English, you gonna overpay, just for doing that: buying English.
It's just the nature of the bull.

It's generally the same in mainland Europe. The "going-rate" has considerably inflated the past coupla years. R. Madrid and City, imo, were large contributors to this.
(Malaga and PSG will likely play their part as well.)

Interestingly enough, many would say that LFC itself has also done it's fair share of inflating the market what the Carroll swoop at £35m.
(I do remember an official from a continental club refering to the Carroll fee when commenting on his player's valuation.)

So people would do well to factor in those variables when discussing players' prices.
Gives you some perspective.

Where a buyer overpays, it isn't because they want to or are dense as such, not in most cases at least.
They pay over the odds cause that's what the market dictates they should do to get what they want.

On another issue, I see that Downing is a player we very much.
The deal is seemingly likely to go through this week.

Personally, I'm not at all thrilled,
I'll be honest. The bloke is not the quickest of wingers around and he isn't exactly known for his dribbling and flair. So I'd imagine that we're bringing him in for his crossing.

In which case I would suggest a far better alternative in Juan Vargas, roughly at the same price we would pay for Downing.

Vargas, like Stewart, isn't a the quickest either nor will he dribble past the entire opposition defence, but he still edges it for me.

This guy's crossing is literally the finest, most terrific of any left sided player I know.
As Ed002 would often say, it's Le Saux-esque. Insanely good.

Add to that his ability from a deadball. Friggin' stunning stuff.
This lad knows how to take a freekick. Scores most of his goals that way.
Vargas can do a quite decent job of filling at left back, as well.

So here (Vargas) we would have a crosser, a goal scorer and a makeshift left back. All in one.
Yes he's 27, but so would Downing also very soon.

For me, this Peruvian is a no-brainer. But Comolli and Kenny will decide who'd best fit in their plans, and they've determined that Downing is one of those players.
So I'll support the man and hope he comes good.

Oh, ed, regarding the redevelopment of Anfield, so you think that it would be possible to gradually increase its capacity to circa 80k if access (is it?) improves?

I would be pleased with that. A maximum capacity of just 60k would do us little good when you consider that we'd be 16000 behind United (who, by the way) may go up to 90k. Arsenal also would rake in much higher profits due to their relatively expensive tickets.

Hey ed, is it true that the Adam deal is close? {Ed028's Note - Yes, it's true}

06 Jul 2011 13:19:51
I don't understand you Liverpool fans dreading the thought of Downing joining, you obviously didn't watch him play last season, he was Villas player of the year and will instantly be a starting winger for you. The thought of him crossing into Carroll should excite you, Mata is untested at premier league level, who knows if he would be good or not.

06 Jul 2011 13:19:49
In all honesty I hated the idea of downing being signed, particularly for the money being mentioned but ssn have just shown his stats for the season just gone and he puts in on average 8 crosses per game, and with the big man needing ammo I beleive this to be a very good signing albeit caroll remains fit, what do you all think?

Hi Ed's, if we complete deals for Adam & Downing which positions do you expect us to address next? {Ed002's Note - Left back I guess will be the most likely.}

06 Jul 2011 12:50:15
Ed, why are so many people so negative. There are weeks of the transfer window to go still and even if we miss out on some targets there will be other targets. We cannot sign them all. It is really cheesing off to see some keep harping on about Henderson's price tag. Give him a chance. His stats last season were phenomenal not just for one so young but even when compared to many top senior players. He is a known hard worker and will give many years of quality service to the club. The fee which was more like £13m plus incentives will be seen as a bargain by next summer. He is athletic, fast, can run all day like Kuyt, can pick a pass or a cross and plays one touch football with ease. All these are the qualities needed for pass and move which KK is returning us to (he has many qualities similar to a young Ray Houghton). To those Downing doubters, if we get him he will be a superb acquisition. KK wants players who will improve our first 11 and Downing would certainly do that. He may not be the spectacular dribbler that Suarez is but he has consistently delivered top notch performances as a winger in the premiership. His stats are also superb. If we get him he there is no risk that he won't be able to cope with the premiership and his accurate crosses will make Carroll unplayable. Reality Red {Ed002's Note - It is no more than frustration. Most will be satisfied later when news of Charlie Adam is confirmed. An orgasmic rush of goodwill will flood across the site.}

06 Jul 2011 12:49:55
ED002 you are in fine form this morning The domino effect for the transfer window is looking to be really close to happening and then it's an all out ride of transfer activity. All the big guns are starting to prepare for battle. Fantastic stuff.

LFC in for Downing, good bit of business that for me even if we may have to pay more than we would have liked. This signing will make Andy Carroll a more potent threat.

Onto other players i have been reading a lot of reports re Blaise Matuidi and if you're a stat man he came high in the stats and appears to be very effective at the role he does for a defensive midfielder, but i haven't seen that much of him. Worth £15M? Ed002 may have a better opinion of him. However he is in a position we seem to be quite healthy in.

The intriguing one is Diego from Wolfsburg. A bit of a bad boy with loads of creative talent. There have been issues regarding the management at Wolfsburg including some ridiculous fines for being late for training for example but can two clubs be wrong?

When he moved to Juve, at the time it was recognised they had gotten themselves a gem. Yet they very quickly shifted him off the books and Juve are experienced in being able to deal with bad boys. Very, very talented, skillful, superb balance and technique, certainly you could get him cheaper than his talent commands. He could be famously misunderstood However if he was a well behaved, good little egg his value would be in the region of around £25-30M nowadays.

And finally Michel Bastos is the best left back in the World bar none. Said at last year and i'll say it now. But at 27/28 i'd pass unless of course ED002 could get the 'despicable' President of Lyon to accept Konchesky plus a few quid in exchange. Who knows but you have to have one price for Europe and one for the French :)

Bob the Red {Ed002's Note - Matuidi would be a great buy. Diego is too high risk in my view, but cheap. Bastos is nearing 28 and will be pricey. Hard to viualise Konchesky sitting at a coffee shop in Lyon's cobbled streets reading teh International Herald Tribune.}

why cant gary maCalister sorted out the price for downing?

06 Jul 2011 11:21:26
I think that Marcelo from Real could be a good signing , cause he is one of the best wing backs in the world

What do you think . Do Liverpool have a chance to sign him ? {Ed002's Note - He is not for sale and I doubt he is a target for Liverpool.}

----------------------------

sorry i've lost my patience with this transfer policy of LFC.

of course he's not a target for liverpool we go for average british talent it seems.

What's the matter mate, is it doing your head in that you don't know whats going on.....You must be a young fan as this is how it used to always happen, nobody knew anything about a target until they had signed, and its getting back there now. We will get our targets if they are worth the money we think they are.

-----------------------

i am not at all concerned about what is going on as too keep it quiet is the best policy BUT i do disagree if liverpool are to put in a 19million pound bid for downing a player which struggles to get international football, when we can get Mata who is a million times better and younger for 20-22 million so that is my concern.

RobLFC

06 Jul 2011 12:53:44
We need both mata and downing, mata to play from the left and downing on the right. Johnson will not leave city this summer he has a chance to play CL football. We need the sale of Meriles and Aquaman to free up money for mata and downing deals. Jova, cole, poulsen, el zhar, n'gog and konchesky need to be off the wage bill so we can attract mata with 80,000+ a week. Kuyt wont play on the right he will be backup to saurez and carroll, thats why we are looking at cheap young backup striker who will be happy with limited playing time, thats why we missed out on wickham. Adam will sign to replace Meriles and enrique or aly cissioko is a must buy.

weve all been wondering why liverpool did not snap up keisuke honda during last winter when he was available for what was believed to be around the 10m mark- if goal.com's source can be trusted (if giraffes could fly:)) and cska are looking for an initial bid of around 20m before negotiating a bit in their favour then that would explain why he did not move in january as i do not see nesv paying what i guess would have been around 15-20m(considering that it was their off season) for him due to his temperamental attitude towards the mangager (recently skulked off the pitch when substituted) and the fact that he is unproven in a decent league and whilst we have the likes of Jovanovic still taking big bites of cash every week- i can see him making a move to Germany in the winter window after running his contract down a bit shame really cos im a big fan of his

Downing and Adam simply not good enough to be Liverpool players. Adam Johnson is twice the player downing is. Adam is a good player in a mediocre/poor team need far more talent than what we are linked with if we can realistically press for the title.

That's brillant news ed, how sure are you tho, i think its a good move as is Enrique & Downing as i belive they are better than what we have and will walk straight into our 1st 11, and like macca said we are targeting players that will get us in the top four, than after that we can target players like Hulk, Agureo etc ...

Am i the only guy who would prefer cissoskho, sakho, adam johnson and turan instead of KK choices of enrique, dann, downing and adam. KK will be out a job at the end of the season as his judgement in players is poor and even the dillusional fans that think the sun shines out his **** will have no excuses. Mid table finish i fear......

06 Jul 2011 12:00:18
You dont have to be a maths whizz to figure out that downing + adam + dann = trouble. None are good enough. We will struggle with a top 6 finish with this guff. For the same money you could get turan or johnson + mata or hazard + sakho. KK should compare the market.com. Simples

Can i just say i for one had had enough of this policy where we get ripped of for English players MATA is a million times better then overrated and overpriced downing and we go for him if we pay 20 million for downing that means we have paid a whopping 75 million for Carroll, downing, and Henderson and that is just a rip off and none of them are that great they just got a British passport

No it's not the wrong way round because dalglish was expecting to pay 15 mill for downing an he's English, BUT if he's forced to pay 20 mill for downing , he will go for Mata who's is more worth the money for his age and mayb sellin on in future (Torres example)

*****
Whoever wrote this, I think you are wrong. Liverpool shouldn't be signing players just because they can sell them in the future at a profit - we are NOT a selling club.

Secondly, you say 'it is not the wrong way round' in reference to targeting Downing before Mata and using the fact that Downing is marginally cheaper and English as your reason. I think that is just silly. Who cares if Mata isn't British? I would rather we spend the extra money on a better and younger player. I'd much rather see Mata on our wing rather than Downing and am agreeing with the original post that it is the 'wrong way around'.

of course he's not a target for liverpool we go for average british talent it seems.

What's the matter mate, is it doing your head in that you don't know whats going on.....You must be a young fan as this is how it used to always happen, nobody knew anything about a target until they had signed, and its getting back there now. morning all/eds

reading this mornign that we had 15million bid for downing rejected is just a disgrace downing is nowhere near as good as ashley young and united paid 17million, is it big eck or the aston villa board demanding the price?

fabio contreo has signed for real madrid for 27 million 5/6 yrs i think, world class left back, cant see marcelo liking that but suppose when hes away on international duty with brazil in copa america an all fabio will be there till fill in and visa versa

liverpool need LB LM/LW RM/RM and back up strker but not an unknown one, does anyone agree?

all this i dont want to see certain players at liverpool is terrible to read.

i trust in the king for me downing would be a very good signing for liverpool i think he delivered the 2nd most amount of crosses in the prem last season
, is that not perfect for for our monster in the middle to feed off, and further more does that not say that downing as the ability to beat defenders and get the crosses in.

Yeah ok the price might be high but we all know you have to pay more for english players that is the way it is so get over it about the price all the time.

everybody saying we can get better i trust in what the king is doing and what LFC are doing.

i for one hope we get downing.

Hi Eds and Macca, hope you are well.

I am afraid to say this web page is starting to baffle me. It's some of the 'fans' who post on here complaining we are not doing enough to bring players in, meet valuations etc. Let me just state firstly we are in a much finer position than we were last year so be gratefull we have honest owners with a projected financial and competative sporting ethos to the club, and secondly this..

Most of the business in the transfer window in concluded by the end of the transfer window. People dont want to be paying for new players wages on top of transfer listed players wages(unless you are sheik owned) instead we should and most probably will wait untill some of our other players (i.e joe cole jovanovic etc) who are on 90k plus a week are offloaded. Now, seeing as we are stilll paying Jovanovic, Coles, Poulsen's wages, what really would be the point in signinng alll the players under the moon now and paying a added 90k plus a week wages on top? Its just wasting money for me. The argument could well be we are missing out on transfer targets etc. Im not being funny but Clichy? (who everyone was slating when we were linked with him) Wickham and Jones? We have been linked wit 66 players this month and 3 have left for other clubs. What do we expect guys, liverpool to sign 66 players this transfer window? As Gary Barlow would say, 'have a little patience' and lets see then what kind of squad we have at the end of the window.

Also the players who want to come to Liverpool will come. What are your thoughts Ed's, Macca and fellow fans?

Adzii {Ed002's Note - I think the fans are just a little frstrated right now. I am sure Adam will be concluded any time now and a better, but perhaps, final offer will be made for Downing and that will cheer them all up.}

06 Jul 2011 10:48:17
All these comments saying why is Comolli going in to low with offers. Well isn't that D Comolli job to buy top players as cheap as possible.

He has done excellent so far as Suarez price may have doubled, Carroll has the potential to be great and excellent resale value and Henderson can be developed into regular first team player for next ten years. DC is not going to Bankrupt LFC.

Count yourself lucky that Roy Hodgson is not buying players or we would be in real s#@t

Is it not clear to the rest of you's what The Kings plan is? Well from why viewpoint it would look at it like this. Our 1st priority should be to come in the top 4, thus qualifying for the champions league. In order to do that KK is buying players with premier league experience so that they can hit the ground running an dont need a year to bed in to the premier league, as im sure Kenny has been told the minimum expectation from this year is to qualify for the champions league. Then once we qualify for the champions league we will see higher profile players arrive with the added money recieved through qualification and also the lure of champions league football. Its one step at a time lads. The Kings not soft.

Guys,
Can we all please just calm down a bit.
Yes we would have liked to have seen a few more players coming in, and going out, but Im sure the board doing things the right way.

Alot of you say weve missed out on this player and that player, do you actually know we were in for them. Marveaux was a done deal then asked for more wages which we, quite rightly, refused and he signed for Newcastle, good riddance. Phil Jones had a choice of us and Man Utd, and went with them, his decision and Clichey wennt to Man City for more money and champs league football.

We need to realise that, unfortunatley, our name alone will not attract players anymore. You can all slate me and say they should honoured to play for our club, and yes they should, but players play for money, trophies and champions league football, and at the moment we cant or wont compete on the wages side and can't offer champions league football. We can offer them a vision or a plan of where we want to go as a club, and if they buy into that then great, otherwise we will continue to lose out to teams that can offer the above.

Keep up the good work eds, its a thankless task I know

WilloLFC

Is it just me Ed or do Liverpool seem to pay well over the odds for players and then sell players on for far less than they're worth? I really think we are mugs when it comes to negotiation......I can see it coming, we'll buy Downing for £20m, Adam for £9m and sell Meireles and Aquilani for less than 10m each. Someone will then buy Mata for less than we pay for Downing. Worlds gone mad Which other club would pay over £50m for Andy Carroll and Jordan Henderson, when you can get proven quality like Van der Vaart for less than 10m? Suarez was the only piece of good business we have done in a long time. Prior to that is was Big Sami Hyppia. Starting to get worried Liverpool fan here......

06 Jul 2011 10:44:22
Hi guys I just thought that I would share my view on the entire transfer window and issues that everyone including myself have with the way things have gone thus far.

Initially I agreed with everyone that we needed width and more importantly to address our defensive frailties but let's forget about what other teams are doing for a moment and look at what we have first. I could see us playing a 4-3-3 next season with the midfield consisting of raul Steven Aqua and the frontline being Suarez Carroll Kuyt. We could also play 4-4-2 with Cole Raul Gerrard Aqua and Suarez and Carroll upfront. Aqua and Raul to do all the running for the team and Gerrard pulling the strings. Cole hasn't had the best season but let's see what a full pre-season does for him.

We also have excellent youngsters to call on when needed like Sterling Flano Kelly etc. We will need a new left back but what I am trying to say is that it's not the end of the world if we don't get all our targets. I believe in the squad and more importantly under Kenny they believe in themselves.

We do need to lower the wage bill and release a few players all of whom have been mentioned here already so there is no need for me to do it again.

LFC You will never walk alone

06 Jul 2011 10:41:52
People who keep knocking Downing & Adam need to wake up and smell the coffee.

Potentially we could sign both players from under 30m, if we look at a so called 'big name' signing other EPL clubs are looking at for about 35-40m namely Modric.

Both Downing & Adam scored and assisted individually double what he did last season whilst playing for arguably weaker teams.

So if you do the math you will see that we are getting a very good deal in signing these two British players. Simple put Modric is 5-10m more and will only give you one quarter of the assists and goals.

If you want just 'Big Names' who are overpriced and not worried by stats I suggest maybe supporting Man City

Can some people get a grip Downing is one of the most consistant players in the premiership. He played better than ashley young in the last two seasons. He has pace and stays out wide. He is not world class but plays above average in every game. In my eyes he has the same playing style as valencia at united. we dont need more fancy foreign players that will play well 1 in 4 games. we need consistancy for the hard away games at places like stoke, wigan and newcastle.

19m for Downing asked by Villa. I can see we are going make yet another inflated purchase.
While City and United are dealing with the likes of Nasri, Snijder, Villa, Modric and Young, we are scratching our heads to decide on two below average players - Adam and Downing. If that is what we call ambition for trophies, I am afraid that is not gonna be a realistic target for the next season. I suppose the approach till now exhibits an intent to stay around 5th/6th position rather than throwing challenge for the top four. Sorry ed, it is not a rumour, it is a concern surrounding the current rumours.

06 Jul 2011 10:03:16
All this transfer shenanigans at LFC stink of DC trying his best to get players for a lower price.

It happened with Suarez if you recall he offered a very low price initially and worked up from there.

Now im not going to say I think this is the correct way to go about this business but it does strike me that it may be ok for the international market but our domestic market is scrutinised so heavily by the media and its seems to be perceived LFC are playing games.

Any thoughts on this?

Im no fan of Downing but if we get him cheap it may make me fell better - im sorry to say IMO anything over 12M is far too expensive.

Interesting days ahead

Liverpools transfer policy is offially in dissarey, to think your prime target is Adam, a mediocre player at best, your next target is Downing, average at best, these players will not help you make a challenge for the prem title, or get you back into the champions league.

06 Jul 2011 09:21:49
I have to laugh at some of the posts you get on here, few weeks ago everyone was whining that we're paying over the odds for players like henderson and carroll, now they're all moaning that we're losing out on "so called" targets because we refuse to be held to ransom over their price. I would be quite happy if we walked away from the downing deal now, I don't doubt that he would improve our squad but not for anymore than the 15 million that we've supposedly offered, same with charlie adam if we have to go to 10 mill or more then walk away, i believe we will strengthen an we can do it without having to pay over the odds.

p.s. eds if blackpool are wanting 10+ mill for adam do you know last time a player moved from the championship for over 10 mill? i think even ramsay was only about 8 mill to arsenal, walcott maybe?

With regards to Adam and Dowining, come on just pay the few extra million. You don't see United waiting around. I fear we are not going to have a great season. I can see Gerrard out for a few more months, and don't really have cover for him. Get Adam, Get Dowining, if we can offer 20 mill for someone in Spain, and 10/15 mill for this person, then just pay the cash. starting to not believe.

Liverpool has contacted SKBrann Bergen (Norway) to inquire about the Jamaican international Rudolph Austin. He is a sentral midfielder and I guess he is an alternative if the Adam-deal falls trough. Austin was ready for Stoke a few years ago but he didnt get his work permit. Now Jamaica is rising on the rankings and this problem is out of the way. Austin has been fantastic this season and is maybe the best player in the Norwegian league right now. I know this because I know people with contacts in local media in Bergen. I have know idea if any bid is on the table but this is not an expensive player. I guess about 2 million £ would be more than enough. You should check him out at Youtube.

06 Jul 2011 08:52:38
I'd personally offer Skrtel and Ngogg or possibly Cole in the deal for Downing. Skrtel isn't Liverpool class and we'd shift around 90k (dependent on Cole going as he's on 90k a week on his own) a week in wages off the turnover if we could get both of the above out of the club. Aston Villa are shocking at the back so may welcome and centre half as part of the deal. This could possibly lower the price to around 8 million for downing.

What do you think?

PS: I hope this downing issue doesn't drag on and on now...lets get him in and bedded in with the team. I'm not sure on him but feel he'd be a good addition.

Jonny Boy.

06 Jul 2011 08:28:06
Just a personal view - I've seen a few posts still linking us with Strikers and I think with Carroll, Suarez, Kuyt and Pacheco I think we have enough variation back that up with the youngsters Suso, Amoo and Morgan who im sure will be in 1st team squads at some point i dont think we have room for another Striker even if Ngog leaves.

What are your thoughts?

not a rumour just an observation. 15 million rejected by villa for downing, commoli doing exactly what he did with suarez in jan. 15 mill to test the water and been rejected. expect a bid of around 17 million to be accepted and with the player apparently keen to join us this will be our player within 2 weeks. also if we are wanting adam we need to get a move on cos my own opinion is that modric will go to chelsea and then spurs will be looking for a replacement and we all assume harry likes adam. on the other hand he could fancy getting joe cole on the cheap. Yesterday someone said something about Asamoah Gyan. Personally I don't see it happening, but his agent has apparently said that an offer HAS arrived in Sunderland. However, would he be willing to be backup to Carrol-Suarez (especially since he seems a Kuyt-type player to me)? Probably bound for Spurs.

Given what's come out in today's Times, my guess is that the Downing deal isn't going to happen. Not in the immediate term anyway

Does it Mata?

Charlie Adam has asked if there are any decent pie shops in Liverpool.....a sure sign he is on his way

Don't know how Villa can reject a £15m offer for Stewart Downing. They should be biting our hand off.

Morning Ed's

Not posted for a while.Its more of a question than a rumour.Do you think that either Benzema or Higuain will leave RM. If so do you think either would be worth a bid.

Two other points.The CA deal is dragging on and on, is it because Oyston is just playing silly sods, if so are we close to walking away?

I have also heard we cannot agree a price with Villa on Downing.

You heard anything on these??

REDFORLIFE {Ed029's Note - The longer these deals drag on the more likelihood it is that we could walk away. I don't Higuian would be for sale sadly and I'm not totally convinced by Benzema even if we could get him without European football. Perhaps Macca has an opinion on Benzema?}

we've lost another transfer yet again. Erik Lamela is on the verge of signing for Roma for 12million euros. TEAM LAMELA ur for hope of LFC signing lamela are gone. DC and KK what is going on, do something

Downing turns 27 later this month - with the game only going to get quicker, and Stewy only going to get slower as he ages, I reckon 15mil is an acurate price for him if we sign him on a 2 and a half year or three year contarct. I hope LFC stand firm and dont give in to Villa. If any extra money was going to be thrown at a bid, I would want it to go to a Mata deal to get that signing across the line, whether it be the fee, signing on fee or wages. Same goes for the Adam bid - stand firm LFC.

Ed just read a couple of story's re Downing.One said that the 15 mil bid was a follow up to a 12 mil bid rejected.And one were it says Villa would take the15 mil bid was the first we bid for him and Villa are holding out for 19 or 15 and N'Gog. If this is true should we not bite their hand off killing 2 birds with 1 stone. Getting 1 of the top 3 crossers of the ball in the league, a team player and chips in with a few goals and assists and a player that wants to join us. And getting N'Gog off the pay roll and save us a couple of mil. The sooner he goes the sooner we'll buy a back up striker. Park seems perfect for this and it seems he's willing to come and wont cost a fortune. Think their's any truth to the story about the N'gog bit or we'll come to a an agreement cash wise. Just a hunch but i think Downing will sign Thursday latest. Hope so, pity it seems he's got McClarens stench on him from his Boro days and the w**k team they were, and no matter what he does it seems that he's never gonna shake it off. Jonson6 {Ed001's Note - I would happily give them Ngog in part-ex.}

Looking forward to whoever we sign, just a little worried about our squad's lack of pace. Enrique isn't the quickest full-back, Downing isn't the fastest winger and Adam doesn't run much at all. All fine players, but we don't have much pace in the squad already. I'd personally like to see a couple of squad players brought in with pace to burn, just to give us that option

A lot of pessimists on here seem to think we can't sign anyone while we're in Asia. I don't see why this would be, Kenny plays a big role in identifying targets but our targets will have been identified now and what remains to be done is agreeing fees and wages, so Kenny plays no part in that. And you hear every summer about players signing for a new club then flying out to join them on their tour - I think it happened with Hernandez at Un*ted last year but I'm not sure. Anyway, point is, transfer negotiaitions will be ongoing while we're in Asia and afterwards

06 Jul 2011 01:33:40
Liverpool are stalling on signings till after the Asian tour so that they can save on flight tickets and player expenses. Also signing players too early on would mean that we have to start paying their wages. {Ed001's Note - waiting would mean a huge hit on shirt sales, a new signing is always accompanied by a wave of people buying shirts with their name on it. It is even more pronounced in Asia, I know a few lads out there that were just waiting to see who was going before they bought shirts to wear to watch the matches in. Bet they are glad they did as at least one had intended to buy a Gerrard shirt if he went.}

hi eds, still going good

just for the guy that said van persie wants to join kuyt, is he a bit stupid... Everyone knows there were big issues between the two players last year, hes clearly making this up.

I was wondering about mcgeady myself im not saying weve bid for him or anything but i am suprised that he just went to russia and just dissapeared?

Am i the only fan who is still excited about carroll and suarez linking up together, we dont need another striker kuyt has alot left to give.

I no theres not any rumours left here eds but thats because i dont think we are that desperate, this time last yr we were about 60 percent worse off so if we get a team good enoguh for top 4 and playing the way we no kenny will have us then i think we should be happy?

Thanks eds plz post

Never really rated Downing as a player, but last years stats read; played 38 out of 38 league games, scored 7 with 9 assist. This to me makes for very intresting reading as he was in a team which was strugling for most of the season.
Now although he's not the greatest player in the world I will ask this question, Were Ripley or Wilcox outstanding players at Blackburn? The reason i ask this is KD bought Ripley (Wilcox was already there) to give his team width & to supply the balls for the forwards (Shearer & Sutton). Not saying i know KD but there is a chance that the simple 442 will be played next year with Downing on one wing & Gerrard on the other. Gerrard is one of the best crosses of a ball from open play & even if he drifted inside every so often, who will mark him? The LB? well if thats the case then you have Johnson, Flanno or Kelly on the overlap.
We could still go out & get a few more signings, but i feel there will only be a few signings, non of this marque crap. Signing that will costs a little or cost a lot, but will fit into a team system.
I feel the LB spot is a must & we could end up going foreign for this.
CB i feel will be either Cahill or Dann. Both english & know the prem, but if the price is too hight we can go abroad.
Another winger, personally id have A Johnson as he covers both wings.
Striker, I am not sure if we will go for a top class stiker. We have Carroll, Suarez, Kuyt, then the likes of Morgan & Stirling (who reminds me a little of a Owen) maybe a youngish kid with an eye for goal (and not too costly).
Thats just my opinion, but Downing could turn out to be a very good signing.

I was told this afternoon that Villa will accept £17m. So it seems you will get your man before you go to Malaysia as long as you pay the extra £2m that they want.

Sydney!

Great to see a Manc so well informed on Liverpool's transfer activities and pre-season tour. Must be a regular on the LFC websites.

Well its no surprise that the Downing bid is rejected is it? I mean why would Villa settle for a million less on a player who has two years left on his contract when they have just sold young on his last year for 16m? I guess 16m+N'gog should do it.

I for one appreciate Downing and would be happy if we got him. Riera wasn't world class was he, but having a left footer who can provide genuine width and supply either Ariel or on the ground can prove to be a big difference. Plus the fact that he is PL proven and its a good investment for me.

It doesn't matter really that he is not the fancy foreign name that the FM community here craves. He is certainly a massive improvement over anyone that we have in the respective position(if we have any). Doesn't it make sense Ed, or am I just blabbering..

VM YNWA {Ed001's Note - I am with you, I think Downing would be an excellent signing.}

Would rather have Mata than Downing.

Adam is a poor mans Alonso.

Enrique is the next Bjornebye

Just need a second rate striker to top the list - hey lets keep Ngog

Despite this I'm still positive - after all Kenny won the title with Blackburn with Batty, Sherwood, Wilcox, Ripley, Warhurst, and the goals of SAS.

Everybody needs to brighten up it depresses me to read post after post of pure negativity im not ecstatic myself but c'mon its not that bad..short memories..get behind the team and be happy with what is on offer kenny dalglish is the manager and he'll sign who he feels will benefit the future of LFC and the challenge of becoming a winning team again..if anyone can do it kenny can, stop whingeing like b**ches, negativity is bad news..JG..

05 Jul 2011 23:53:54
I dont know if I am alone on this , but, is Enrique any better than what we got already ? to me he never stood out last season for NC, ok but not "WOW" what you think ed ? I would rather see GJ stay on the left.....

05 Jul 2011 22:51:02
Ed and others, what do you think of the following potential signings?
Izaguirre = 11m (had a great season)
Sakho = 18m (can cover LB and in my view will be a super star like Vidic for ManU)
Mata = 22m (do i need to say anything)
N'Zog = 10m (got great speed, skills and a good cross)
Park Chu-Young = 6m (he wants the move to the club and will add a different dimension to AC)
Henderson = 16m (the next Stevie G)
These players can get Liverpool back into the top 4. {Ed028's Note - All good additions IMO, Sakho is impressive to watch}
