Reported Chelsea & Manchester United target Sergio Aguero: I will stay with Atletico Madrid until my contract expires in 2014

The Argentine is adamant that he will see out his contract at the Vicente Calderon despite interest from abroad and also affirms that he wants to end his career with Independiente

Ed what do you think the odds out of 10 on Liverpool signing Turan, Lennon, Young, Downing, Johnson, Payet and Marveaux.

Cheers {Ed002's Note - I refer to earlier answers.}

Answer me this (again) why do we the fans always think and post on this site that players won't join us because thay want CL football. UTTER RUBBISH

There will be a dozen players who have played CL semi finals this week begging for a contract over the next 2 months ( half of Madrid ). There are only a handful of players who can say "i am holding out for CL football" usually a striker or a top keeper like Neuer.

I refer to Adam Johnson 78 games for Boro and less for Citeh he aint going to turn down a guaranteed start whipping it in for Carroll compared to what he has now and remember he wasn't a Mancini buy

WON'T Move to a club not in CL = I would like a really really really big pay rise but would be happy with a high profile move.

Arsenal play CL every year . . . . . . . . . . . . there queueing up for them aren't they ! ! !

Champions League is the pinnacle of many players career now. And players like Johnson will want to play in it and play well to cement an England spot.

Arsenal largely choose not to buy.

Well said Suarez didn't need much convincing did he?

Square tomato

Suarez knew Ajax are financially hampered (a polite way of putting it). We paid asking price after long and lengthy deliberation. Are we gonna pay £25 million for every player we buy?

Anybody who fails to see the pull of the Champions League is extremely naive.

All players want the highest level available to them - like anyone at work - most money for same job with no more responsibility or hassle - my original point is lets get people who can fight for the shirt every week not people who maybe able to or will do in two years.

Agger in evryones team lets sell him he's had 6 years of not turning up week in week out.

At least Nicky Tanner was always available! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Talking about the importance of Champions League Football, I think the answer is in the middle of what you both have said.
CL is a major factor for lots of the very top players, however there are many factors which can draw players to a club. Liverpool are an attractive proposition right now - we have a great management set up and a fairly young up-and-coming team. Players like Adam Johnson, who don't always play regular football at the moment, would be more likely to be concerned about getting a starting place in a team and impressing in the league to get an England spot rather than the cl. And everyone expects Liverpool to be seriously challenging for cl next year anyway so I do not see the fact that we do not have champions league on offer next year to be a major problem.

I hate to say it but I too wouldn't be to upset if we sold Agger this summer, he is a good player but far too inconsistent and we need exactly what is said above - players who can fight for the shirt every week!

Red Chris

Nicky Tanner played 59 times before retiring through a back injury! Soto has probably played as many.

Can see the point you are trying to make. But for me if we can get him fit, keep him fit, Agger is one of the best in the premiership.

If not, I'd look at Scott Dann. Birmingham have gone struggled in is absence. Really good defender.

Heard a few weeks ago that the reds were going to snap up a big London based player. I have since heard that this player is non other than Gareth Bale. No fee was mentioned however, on some sites today, they mentioned that Comolli going after a target that will 'shock and delight reds fans' I understand Bale is also a reds fan although many say they are so not sure on that! Have you heard anything about this ED?? I think it would be one hell of a statement and would end any interest in Young! Please post in rumours! Thanks. {Ed001's Note - I think there is more chance of me winning the lottery to be honest, especially as he is clearly not a Liverpool fan.}

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

He supports Arsenal, who were also his first choice when he left Southampton, however as Southampton lost out £5m on the Walcott transfer, they decided to ignore Arsenals approach for the player.

Was it TheTurdz mate? ha , that's excellent, and what a site its made too, you guys should be proud - my dream to join the team one day ;)
Isaac {Ed001's Note - bless him, he is almost famous! Maybe one day mate, if it keeps getting busier I will have to bring in more editors to help keep up. I was just hoping to get ones that support other teams in first off, because there are lots of sites there is a need to keep a balance amongst us all.}

All because I couldn't keep my mouth shut and had to make a comment on one post made! That seems to have been the catalyst for the whole lot of it.}

Got to be the most interesting thing I've read in a while! Wasn't old enough to use the internet 10 years ago but have been on here a few ha ! Was just wondering what that catalyst was?
Isaac {Ed001's Note - someone posted a stupid rumour and I couldn't resist pointing out the stupidity of it. It caused a surge in posts as people either threw a wobbly or joined in the conversation. I had just given up on anyone else ever realising the site wasn't for people to make up nonsense, but for people to post what they had heard and for others to point out why it will never happen or any information they had heard that agreed with it. Unfortunately people never debunked the nonsense rumours, they just read them and then laughed about them on other forums. So I decided to do it myself on ones I knew were nonsense in the hope others would follow suit on those they knew to be nonsense. And it seems to have worked!}

Im starting to get worried about the players we are rumoured to be seriously interested in:
Charlie Adams, Stewart Downing, Jose Enrique, Marveaux. These players arent going to improve our first team for the simple fact they are not good enough.

I would rather see the following players bought who are also rumoured with us:
Adam Johnson, Aaron Lennon, Gary Cahill
Along with a quality left back.

Reina
Kelly - Cahill - Agger - (LB)
Gerrard - Miereles
Lennon - Saurez - A.Johnson
Carroll

I'm sorry, but how can you say that your worried about the players we are linked with and how they are not good enough; and go on to mention Lennon and Cahill?! Lennon is as useful as freckles on a Goth, and Cahill is worse than Carra in terms of hoofing the ball. To give you some credit, I would love to see Adam Johnson in a red shirt; but lets be honest, it's not going to happen.

Stedz 11

The fact you can't name a quality left back says it all. In truth, I can't think of a decently priced left back either! !

As for Lennon and Johnson neither would move to us at the moment. Few players see the long term potential.

Adam, Downing are not good enough. Marveaux - I do not know enough about, but the fact that his contract has been allowed to run down and there was little competition for his signature worries me.

Dirks Engine Room

What about Bale? not saying we are going to get him, but he is quality on the left at least- even if he isn't an amazing defender.

Blob

Marveaux & other players have intentionally not renewed their contracts because it allows them to become free agents. Manure & Chavski were competing for his signature but he fears he may not get a fair chance in the starting xi at those clubs. {Ed002's Note - I rather think you are a few light years from home on this.}

I disagree , i think downing would be an excellent signing , hes quick , good crosser , scores goals and not a big time charlie. hes been consistent for all his clubs so wouldn't need time to settle in like a big money foreign player. maybe hes not world class but kk could get the very best out of him

06 May 2011 22:30:34
Four signings for the first team squad and we may well be back in the Champions league or challenging the top three with some luck.

1) A Johnson - young skilful player who's flexible to play on both wings and provide quality ammunition to our strikeforce. Plus he'll chip in with a few goals of his own and as a bonus hes H.G.

2) Sakho - young powerful centre back. Confident on the ball and plenty of potential to be world class in just a couple of years. Bonus is ability to play at left back and provide cover for Aurelio (plenty needed there), or potentially Robinson if he continues his rapid development.

3) M Sissoko - big powerful player, with a great engine and wonderful ability. Again fairly young with room to develop and grow into Gerrards role in the next few years.

4) Gervinho - talented player, perhaps a little rough around the edges but has plenty of confidence in his play. Not scared to run at players and gets plenty of goals and assists. He's likely to come in as 3rd pr 4th choice striker but his flexibility to play out wide means he'll get plenty of game time.

I'm sure others like Marveux and some young players or a back up keeper may be signed but they are the style of big but not too expensive players I hope we target. All opinions welcome.

Papa G

Gervinho is out of the question now, well gutted! Replace him with a poacher such as Welliton, add a 5th first team signing, Payet or Marc Albrighton on the right and I'd gaurantee top 4!

Stone YNWA.

Johnson is playing in big games now and doing well. He will want CL football.
Sakho maybe.
Sissoko looks a good prospect, but doubt he would start over Gerrard (rightly or wrongly). Would he settle for that?
Gervinho is a player we do not need. Unreliable, let Newcastle have him.

Dirks Engine Room

You have picked 4 excellent players here, but the question you have to ask is whether the amount of money being spent is wise! These players combined could come in excess of £60m which at this moment in time is unnecessary. Adam Johnson would be my first choice signing and also sissokho! Very good players that would add quality, I'm not sure sakho is necessary he could cost nearly £15m. Our defence has been solid recently and I don't think a major signing is necessary, Instead of gervinho I'd like to see a Hernandez type player, cheap with tons of ability and chipping in. However I don't think there is any good examples out there! I think 3/4 players is good but I don't agree with Sakho and Gervinho. I'd like to see Dann and Albrighton personally, but Albrighton is te last winger villa would sell.

MacIntosh

They were just four names that I don't think are overpriced for their talent (although I'm sure city would ask for a fortune for Johnson as we're a direct rival next season). Gervinho won't get a champions league club in the U.K and we're an attractive club so I think he could be persuaded, agents release those statements all the time an they're normally rubbish to drum up interest.

I love the idea of a pouched but they're extremely rare. Hernandez isn't quite as good as his hype on match of the day nut it all stems from his type of play, that is so instinctive and rare. Anyone think of any players like that, that are young and we've been linked too.

No matter who we sign I trust Kenny and the board, even Comolli to an extent. We will buy quality and if we start well next year then at least we've got a headstart on this season.

Let me know what you think of this team

Gk: reina
Lb: contreo (spelling)
Cb: skrtel
Cb: agger
Rb: kelly
Cm: gerrard
Cm: mereiles
Cm: lass diarra
Rw: aguero
St: carrol
Lw: suarez

Bench:

Gk: jones/ gulacsi
Lb: robinson/ insua/ aurelio
Rb: flanagan/ wisdom
Cb: agger/ ayala
Cm: lucas/ spearing/ shelvey
Rw: johnson/ kuyt/ cole
Lw: maxi/ guarin/ affelay
St: pacheco/ wickham

We only buying 4 players and theirs alot of options affelay can play lw i know the reserve strikers are young but theirs 3 world class strikers starting and kuyt on the bench if theirs a striker problem we can always change to 4-4-2 i would like to see johnson play in more of an attacking role rw. This leaves us wuth an excellent starting team and a much stronger bench and we all know kk has a few more gems in the reserves and academy.
Ynwl

It's a very strong team but Madrid will never sell Diarra and if they do it will be for alot of money. Why would Affelay move to Liverpool to play on the bench again?

Contreo is poor defensively
skrtel is only in first XI through others injured - physically struggles.
Diarra is decent but will want CL football, would cost a lot money, and is he better than we have - Lucas has done admirably this year. Our most consistent player.
Aguero will definetly want CL football.
Affeley has only been at Barca 4 months.
Wickham is hugely overpriced and overweight!

Dirks Engine Room

It is well known Diarra carries baggage, hence why alot of trams avoid him. It would be better for LFC to go for a player with better attitude, also afellay wouldn't come to be on bench. If he were to come he would have to start. Another issue is coentrao

Carrying on, accidentally sent. He's alright going forward, but a very average defender! He would not be worth his price tag IMO. It would be better to stick with an experienced EPL LB or even Johnson. I felt he proved a point when he played there

MacIntosh

Yeah especially to Roy who slagged him from the start. There is no reason why Johnson shouldn't be a beast at the back and going forward. He's strong, well built and pacy enough to stick to most wingers. His main issue is his positioning and casual attitude. Those two factors greatly improved under Kenny at left back and I'm sure a huge factor in that and how good our defence has been lately is down to Steve Clarke.

06 May 2011 22:00:19
I think this is what we need
CB- Phil Jones, Sakoh or Garry Cahill
LB-Cissoko, that Celtic LB not sure of his name, NOT Jose
Enrique!
CM&DM- sissoko and MVilla
Wingers payet mareaux and a dream would be Adam Johnson as the 3rd
Are these players realistic buys eds?
The next year:
Reina
Johnson (one of the cb) agger (one of the lb)
Payet(or kuyt) Gerrard(or sissoko) lucas(or MVilla) Adam Johnson
Suarez Carroll

Seconardy team:
Jones
Kelly carra skyrtel aurelio
Mareaux spearing Lucas meireles
Kuyt shelvey

So you would want Lucas, Raul, Dirk, Carra, and Kelly to play Carling Cup football?

This is the type of fantasy c**p I'm on about.

Dirks Engine Room

I'm completely with you here Dirk.

Meireles (after being voted PFA fans player of the year) dropped, Carra bombed out the first team despite his organisational skills with no apparent replacement, Kelly dropped, M'Villa and Sissoko brought in to warm the bench and Marvaux signed to play in the Carling Cup!

Make an effort lad!

Ed, how do you rate Peter Odemwingie from West Brom?

I think he has had a great season scoring 12 goals. Look promising for the future.

Do you think Liverpool would possibly considered him an option?

Dean Anfield. {Ed001's Note - he is not a young lad you know, he is at peak age now, I believe he is 28 or 29, certainly not a promising one for the future. Good player, but not good enough for us I think.}

I know this a rumours site but some of the posts are misguided at best or at worst totally Mike Tyson.

Apart from Big Phil's gaffe on norwegian tv, (and god knows why we'd be interested in Enrique as he is not better than we have) we (as fans) have little idea of who we are after.

Some posters put up posts of players that they only get to see on Eurogoals.

Onto Premeirship players, Johnson has done well at City, is young, will probably get CL football - why would he leave? Bale and Lennon have done well at Spurs - why would they leave? Nasri???

It will be an interesting Summer, but Aguero? Mata? without Champions League. .

Dirks Engine Room

Johnson seems a down to earth lad and might relish playing week in week out in a side on the up. If Mancini leaves then he'll probably stay but if he doesn't then you never know. Your right about all the rest of the players and sometimes you need to look at smaller players with appetite and not over ego'd players who are overpriced and come with a big attitude.

Papa G

Big Carrot for Johnson and many others is Champions League and he does seem to playing in the more important games for Citeh. He is a very exciting prospect.

I wonder what Milner is thinking?

For the people who don't really understand. We broke the British transfer fee (£35mill/ Carroll) because KK sees him as a 20 plus goal a season striker depending on wether or not he stays fit for the majority of the season. He already has scored 14 BPL goals in his first season. The thing we must keep in mind here is his aerial ability. Lfc management feels that with the right service from the wings he could get the extra 5 or 6 goals that would put him around or over the 20 goal mark. So the prioriy buys this summer will be the flanks. Carroll can also play as a target man when the service is coming down the centre from (Gerrard) out of midfield & his aerial ability will allow him head balls down to the feet of attacking players (Suarez). For KK & DC its all about the right combination. The Suarez/ Carroll partnership is still gelling. Add Gerrard & 2 or 3 good pacy wingers and our attack will be sorted. We already have Lucas shielding the back line & were looking at Sakho to play centre back & porvide cover at left full back. Augero may very well be a much more skilful player than Carroll but I doubt Aguero/ Suarez combination woulbe as effective in a league as physical as the BPL.

Well said. I wouldn't discount a reliable player like Kuyt on the right as with Carroll and Suarez providing the distraction he seems to relish popping up at the right time and scoring regularly. With Johnson bombing past him and a proper winger on the left we might just have a side capable of challenging. I'm actually looking forward to next season more than any I can remember in a while.

Please answer me this - why do most people have huge fantasies about signing overseas overpriced Youtube ( Youtubby in Aguero and Benzema case ) sensations - when it is obvious we need a reliable CB partnership who stay fit and can play 20+ games consecutively ( Agger in 6 years at the club has a longest run of 15 games in 07/ 08 and since has maxed out at 8 on the spin. I am not saying buy him but Roger Johnson 7 missed PL games in 3 seasons with only 2 by injury the rest on yellow card accumulation shows far better value for money look at Shawcross or Cahill or Hangelaand all week in week out and dependable and not meg ££££££.

PLUS a decent winger who won't hide when it gets tough Adam Johnson BUY HIM NOW we all know he likes a pint but he will turn up play to a PL standard every week and not take this 12 months to settle b*****ks that come with some foreign stars whislt we quite happily pay their huge wages.

Lets be realistic Sir Alcoholics lot and the Cockney Russians set the current standard and that level is not a mile away from where we are now. Chelsea are old JT, Fat Frank, Malouda, Drogba, Essien etc will soon need to rebuild + the scumbags are top of the league with Gibson, Carrick, Fletcher, O'Shea, Valencia, Schole (aged 35) and Super Injucntion Ryan aged 36 playing most weeks.

Do we need to buy exotic hit and miss high wage high risk one game in six (MAXI) players when consistent relaible week in week out solid players are already proven to win the title.

Which collectively is the only thing we all want.

In for a week out for month Duncan is a T****n

Yes mate ur speaking about fairly reasonable points, but just a little wound up aren't u. The standard of pl champs isn't much of a diff from 1st to 6th this year, been a strange season but we need to get our 1st team fit (Sg da gj & ac) all fit for a good run of games to really measure up. Granted our squad needs beefing up but bare n mind the young stars on the up

Lovely stuff - agreed very wound up but as you point out yourself get fit and play every week we are almost there and don't need to spend loads - i love the bandwagon on this site - a couple of MOTD Lineker compliments and Odemwingie is mentioned DJ Campbell is better than him I used watch DJ when I worked saaarrrffff and he couldn't hit a tiled floor with a bladder full of p*ss WE ARE VERY CLOSE

Just a quick question Ed, I seem to remember reading somewhere that we had lodged a bit for Defoe in jan I may be wrong but with so much talk about buying another striker(Gervinho, Hulk, Gomez etc, etc.)are we still looking at him as a possibility? He does tick a lot of boxes as he's quick, scores goals, has prem exp and an England international. Do you think he would be an option and at what price? I'm sure many people would love some other big name striker like the ones i listed earlier but he would fit in and not have to adapt like many foreign players. Your thoughts would be appreciated as ever, also your thoughts on other prem options. Keep up the excellent work {Ed001's Note - I have not heard of any interest in Defoe, he is simply not good enough.}

06 May 2011 21:15:09
Gary Cahill/ Phil Jones, Moussa Sissoko/ Charlie Adam, Jose Enrique, Gary Cahill, Karim Benzema, Ashley Young, Juan Mata, Adam Johnson will sign

06 May 2011 20:56:51
Could see the following in our squad next season.

S. Defour. 10 million.
S. Marvuaex free.
J. Mata 15-18 million.
D. Santon 13 million.
A. Sanchez 30 million.

With the progression of Coady, Sterling and Suso we would have some squad next season easily capable of finishing in the top four.

06 May 2011 20:47:19
It would be nice to have another striker but in kuyt we a pretty good one for a back up, i seem to remeber one of the ed's saying the better the players he has around him the more he ups his game, i think this was said just after or during the world cup and the ed(whichever 1 said it?) is right cos the team has been playing to near its potential and he has been on fire, i also think when jaime and stevie retire pep should be captain with lucas(yes that right i said lucas) should be vice captain.
huddz red

Well said mate. Kuyt has been immense since Kenny stepped in. At the world cup he was operating on the left but had wonderful players and movement around him and that give him space, which he does need to pick a pass/cross or arrive effectively late into the box. Keep up the good work Dirk.

Papa G

06 May 2011 20:41:39
{Ed001's Note - we did ask about Aguero, but I don't believe any formal bid was made at all, I was told they basically said he was going nowhere in Jan. Johnson is unhappy with Mancini but it looks likely Mancini is leaving as City, they have been knocked back in a move for Jose Mourinho recently for instance. As for Nasri, I am not sure he is what we need, he is yet another central attacking midfielder, though it does seem likely he might be on the move soon.}

You don't think Nasri could be played out wide? He is good on either side, as is Johnson. {Ed001's Note - he can play there, but he is always looking to cut inside, we need width not more bodies clogging up the centre of the pitch.}

I completely agree Ed. The top teams tend to have one out and out hugline touching winger with pace and skill e.g Valencia, Walcott (questionable skill but he is quick) or Pedro etc.

We've had wide midfielders or even strikers operating in both positions far too long. We need a proper winger like A Johnson with a strong left back behind him and on the right Kuyt can work but only with Kelly or Johnson behind bombing on and giving Kuyt space to move inside.

For that reason I hope we don't sign Ashley Young because he doesn't stay wide whatever side he plays and his final ball is pretty inconsistent.

Any thoughts Ed.

Papa G.

P.s Ed I've followed the original site since it opened. How it's all changed in the last year or so. Glad your getting the users you deserve {Ed001's Note - I agree fully, Johnson would be my first choice, he is something special on his day and is wasted on the right at City. Cheers on the PS, it has been ten years of hard work and has been a bit of a shock how it changed so quickly. All because I couldn't keep my mouth shut and had to make a comment on one post made! That seems to have been the catalyst for the whole lot of it.}

Ed1 it's strange how these things happen, I get the impression this isn't full time for any of you Ed's but I hope you're making a living off it as your kept extremely busy especially with the ridiculous FM wishlist page (which I love but it's hilarious what people expect).

I suppose the site had developed with technology and the times and hopefully will make you a fortune one day.

All the best

Papa G {Ed001's Note - if only! A fortune would be lovely, but it did give me the idea for my living, we produced similar sites but for US sports. If only I knew anything about the sports I would make a fortune because I could join in the talk, like I do on here, and get the pages flowing. Unfortunately I don't, but the adverts pay better and more people click on them so they still make it possible to spend my time doing this.}

Well it's not a bad life then having banter with some (mostly) decent football fans. I bet nobody clicks on the ads on this site, it's not really an English trait. Can't say I even notice them often but I would donate like a few would if you asked I'm sure.

I'd struggle to discuss NFL, it's got more rules than Fifas dummies guide to goaline technology.

Keep it up anyway.

Papa G {Ed001's Note - enough click to cover costs and in peak times we can put a little aside to pay for upgrades, that will do me nicely. I don't think I would want to earn my living doing this, it can be hard work at times and right now I can just drop it and take a break as I am not relying on money from it. Plus, having seen a lot of sites such as goal, caughtoffside and koptalk all constantly making up stories to bring in hits, I don't want that pressure. This way we can be honest, there is nothing for us to gain by lying and making things up. The more hits we get the harder work it is!}

I don't know that ad with meet bi women sounds ok, as soon as i win the big one nnnngggggg lol

I think due to the emergence of kelly flanno robinson spearing, along with shelvey wilson ayala and the impressive morgan who i think is going to get some serious playing time next season and the fine form of lucas
we should be going all out for two real quality wingers maybe even three, one creative midfielder whos already capable of filingl gerrards shoes maybe dafour ?? and a really decent left back,

id like jarvis, mata, a.johnson, defour, and a left back maybe baines

fsg are going to spend on a massive scale to get us back in the champions league they realise this, the sooner were getting the extra revenue the better and with kenny in charge its a formality.
get rid of the dead wood and with just one massive spending spree with the academy doing so well the team will take care of its self with only a couple of players having to be changed during the summers to freshen things up, something Chelsea and the scum have failed to do in recent years hence there obvious decline which will be even more noticeable when we storm the title next season.

I notice a previous contributer suggested Nasri may be anfield bound, However Ed dismisses as someone we don't need. I would argue that we do, people seem to think we need a flying winger to get to the bye line and cross for carroll. well actually that would get in the way of suarez who likes to roam wide etc. what we need is wide midfielders who can both play short football, play long crosses from deep, and also defend. Something the likes of young, johnson and lennon don't do. Nasri would be perfect.
Also why would we want to spend 30m on another forward when Kuyt has proved he is a centre forward when required by kk and can form an alternative partnership with suarez when carroll is injured etc.
come on the reds! !

Now listen carefully. This is quite simple. There is no current Planning Application lodged with Liverpool City Council for redeveloping Anfield or otherwise.

As somebody mentioned earlier, it takes a few weeks to 'validate' the application then a further time period to determine the oitcome of the application.

With an application of this magnitude, the decision process could take months due to extensive consulation requirements. I would expect a timescale of 1+ year from now to begin any works on the redevelopment of Anfield.

The only current consent granted for Anfield is still the vulgar H+G design.

Well this is the real Steve Parker and despite my assertion I would not post, I just need to clear up a few issues.
Whether or not my postings are what you want, or not your taste, they were all original and I reject the regurgitation reference.
I would also point out that I am NOT connected in any way with the newspaper that has taken on the same verbal balance with Liverpool fans that Cuba has been to the USA.

My arguments were based on living in an open society balanced with free speech. Having supported the club since 1961 when I stood on the Kop, I have every right to ask those questions that it appears NONE of the supporters of the club wish asked. I understand that and my posts were edited to remove those references to my pertinent questions. That, I did not have an issue with.
I have never been abusive to any posters on the site and would ask they confine their comments to my postings - not me, as they do not know me in the least.
Disagree with my comments, but don't pretend to know me, my background, nor motivations.
I am a regular reader on the site, leave it at that.
Thanks to those who have mentioned me, but I am history in terms of posting and I politely suggest you move on to more of the usual posts on the site that are easier to appreciate and not controversial.

I believe he's 60. Married to Marina and joined LFC from Celtic. Played up front and was also a player manager. Played internationally for Scotland. Hope this helps you out.

No contract until the summer when he will sign a 3 or 4 year agreement.

Hey ed, saw a post about a new striker. .u were on about a poacher and a player who puts defenders under pressure. .a player similar to hernandez of united!
How about agbonlahor of villa. .now before i get shot down, he has pace, puts defenders under pressure, i know he hasnt scored much this season but he hasnt been playing since bent arrived, and with better players around him he will be better! I reckon he would be willing to go on the bench and try to break into the first team!
Ed ur thoughts? {Ed001's Note - he is a headless chicken in my opinion. He is just like a slightly faster Milan Baros who scores less goals. Not even close to being Liverpool class for me.}

Hey we won the champions league with baros ha! ! {Ed001's Note - good point, but he was still rubbish fair play! You just knew what he would do every single time he got the ball, his head would go down and he would just run straight at goal. It used to infuriate me.}

Ed .I get the impression you value him as highly as me (about as welcome as a fart in a space suit) {Ed001's Note - about that, he tried but there was just no footballing brain there at all.}

The thing that used to really get my goat about Milan, was he would score screamers from 10-20 yards out, yet fail miserably when trying to hit the target from a yard or two.

Roughly, what are our chances of landing Mata, and how good is he actually?

If you don't know how good he is why do you even care if we get him

RED BOB

Probably because I support Liverpool and I'm interested in the quality and likelihood of arrival of players we are rumored to be linked with? I'd've thought that was pretty obvious. .

Mata is very good, extremely fast, skillful and has a powerful shot. Criminally overlooked by the Spanish national setup. Doubts about whether he could handle the EPL though. .

Evening Ed's

I class myself to have a reasonable knowledge about football.There are far better people than me with more knowledge.

Can someone please explain to me why oh why are we still looking and being heavily linked with Young.
There are far better players on the market.

I must be missing something?

ED's any explanation {Ed001's Note - if I had an explanation for you I would give it, but I don't understand why anyone would want him.}

Cheers Ed I thought my IQ had started to diminish although an IQ os 2 does not leave a lot to lose (LOL)

I'll reply. Seems i am in the minority of fans who rate Ashley Young. This is a player who has the ability to get past full backs from either flank. Not many wingers in this modern generation can do this with the ease that Young can. He has the ability to back up skinning full backs with decent deliveries from either flank. Having pace to burn with lively, sharp movement he will be an absolute handful. Clubs will need to double up on him, allowing for more space for others. Young can work hard as well. He's English, experienced and far more consistent than Lennon for example.

The downside? Over the last 18 months he has been lazy, his quality with the ball has been questionable, a tad arrogant with a poor attitude. All the hallmarks of a player who wants out. Recently he has lit up his play and seems like someone playing in the shop window.

He needs a new club who will get more out of him and with him playing with better players with more needed from him on a more regular basis, he will be far better than what you have seen so far.

He would be a class signing in my humble opinion.

Bob the Red

Cheers Bob, You would have thought that he would have put effort in if he wanted to be away.I still think the jury is out on him.Yes your right about pace and can beat people but he never seems to have his head up and delivery into the box is more often than not poor

Yep, it's defo redevelopment folks. . source from inside the club. Tenders are out.

I think this is shrewd and makes business sense, 60,000+ with minimal investment compared to new buils makes more business sense for the next 10 years.

Redeveloping means rebuilding the whole Main stand & Anfield Road, this means reduced revenue for the time it is being built, and Im not sure if we are allowed to ban away fans whilst rebuilding.

I think that a new stadium makes much more sense.

Juventus Meet With Agent Of Atletico Madrid's Sergio Aguero - Report
The Argentina international is reportedly one of the top candidates to strengthen Juve's attack this summer and his agent will meet with the Turin side on Friday

I don't think so. How many players would they sign, when they are even unable to pay 13m for Aquilani. But this doen't mean that I think Aguero would be signed. Would love, if it happens. I wish we had bought him in jan than Carroll. If he wasn't available, then We'd have waited till summer, but now it looks quite unlikely as Carroll is there, too. Ur thoughts, ed? {Ed005's Note - Its not a case of Juventus not being able to afford Aquilani but more a case of them not wanting to match our price. I believe they have money available.}

But wasn't the price fixed and agreed with the loan just a case of them taking or leaving?

06 May 2011 17:50:50
I would not spend massive this summer, maybe aguero 40m suso, sterling and coady coming through

I think spending £40m on one person is spending big

A striker is not a priority ? we have Have Carroll Suarez and Dirk Kuyt as good as any back up striker in the prem !
We need wingers and have not won the league since we last had them. Put width in our side and any team would struggle to cope with us ?

Aguero is much like Suarez, We could play 4-3-3: Suarez -Carroll - Aguero.
This would be one of the strongest attack forces in the world.

P.S. To all who think that we will play 4-4-2 next season, you'r wrong, 4-4-2 has been dead for about 5 years now, and it is only Man.U who can actually play it now(even that is 4-4-1-1), because of Rooney. If they did not have Rooney, they wouldn't be able to play it.

06 May 2011 17:56:08
Liverpool will sign:

Mata
Aguero
Hulk (can also play on wing)
Mauveax (free)
Baines

This is the calibre of players we SHOULD be looking at and in my opinion, are possible even though they would cost a fair wedge. Not the likes of Young & Downing as Macca seems to think are highly likely. Young will turn out to be another Babel and downing FFS!. Bloody nora!. It'll be like getting rid of dead wood and replacing it with fossilised wood.

The Crow.

Apart from Baines and Aguero I agree. We have two very good expensive strikers, why do we need another one to either sit on the bench or put one of them on the bench, what we need is a striker in the 10-15m range who is young, can provide good cover and has played at a good level. Baines I believe is over rated because he is English and surley he wouldn't move from Everton to Liverpool knowing their rivalry. Cissokho, Monreal, Gibbs, Coentrao would be far better.

E.H LFC

We need another striker of that calibre so in the event that Suarez or Carroll are tired/injured etc, we have another class striker to come on. I believe that there would be some sort of rotation going on anyway. Contreao can't defend can he?, or so everyone keeps saying. I've not seen him play so I don't know. Baines can defend. I agree that English players are overated but that the way things are right now. There seems to be a premium added onto their value these days. Then again, a lot of players are valued more than what they really should be.

The Crow

I'm confused. First you say we will sign your list of players but then that they are the "calibre" of players we should sign, which is it?

Sent to Coventry

06 May 2011 17:21:00
Connor Wickham looks like a possibility, I'd say around £8-10m for him, he's highly rated.

Would love it if Adam Johnson and/ or Ashley Young came, but I think that's a pipe dream.

Ibrahim Afellay looks a safer bet.

Poulsen, Aquilani, Jovanovic, Cole (?), Soto, Degen, Konchesky to go. Maybe Aurelio too, hitting 30 and still injury prone. Would be upset though because when fit he's a reliable LB, but I think young Jack Robinson in a few years time will be a more than able left back.

Also, youth players to make it in 2-4 years:

Flanagan, Robinson, Shelvey, Sterling, Moran, Coady. All excellent pospects. Also Pacheco and Suso looking good.

so we buy him? no thanks harry, we have had a shed load of thick or arrogant players at anfield also there are rumours he has slagged the city and fans off in the past,
another thing worth mentioning he is faster than a raceing pigeon, but his distribution is not even up to 1st devision standards always beats the man sometimes twice, then hits it so hard it goes out for a throw on the otherside of the ground, or a goalkick smashing some ones oxo and pie out of his hands not for liverpool fc i say, bob paisleys skids

A question to Ed01, but any Ed would be appreciated.

Say we're looking for a poacher (I hope we are), a Javier Hernandez type player. What names are possible?

Stone YNWA. {Ed001's Note - I have been trying to find that out, because I can't think of any decent ones that I have seen other than the one you mention. Being as how I mostly watch the EPL and the Spanish league (oh and the J-League games on Eurosport are like a breath of fresh air with the attitude of the players being exemplary! They very rarely argue decisions, dive, roll around on the floor pretending they were shot by a sniper in the crowd or any of the other cheating antics we take for granted), I have been trying to find out who would fit that bill in other leagues and then find out if we have shown any interest or had them watched at any point. So far I have drawn a complete blank, sorry, but I will keep searching and bugging those I know into digging as well.}

It definitely seems to be a rare breed. I think we potentially have one in the form of Adam Morgan; a few years too early though. Falcao & Darren Bent are the only other poachers I can think of. But neither are options for us. Grr this is frustrating!

Stone YNWA.

If we want a goal poacher, I would go for Raul from Schalke. We want someone hard working, good finisher and can get into good positions, he is perfect. Hopefully he can teach Andy Carroll a thing or two about his attitude.

If we want a younger striker, I would go for Gervinho, he can play wing (something we lack) and as a striker so would be a perfect player for us. Another thing we lack is pace, and Gervinho has got pace. I think he's in the lack year of his contract next season so we may be able to get him for 10 million in the summer, very good value IMO. {Ed001's Note - Gervinho has come out and said he only wants to join a team playing in the Champions League.}

There's a young lad who plays for river plate i think called Villalna who seems like a good prospect for the future check him out if possible and lemme know if he fits the bill thanks. .

Mike

Or Benzema?!
Isaac

I'd put forward Welliton from Spartak, any thoughts?

Diouf could be a decent 3rd striker? Knows the club inside out, prem experience. cheapish price but we might not be able to afford his wages but hes very experienced.

El Hadji Diouf?! No offence mate but he is scum.
Isaac

Raul isn't a goal poacher, he likes to get involved in the play. Plus he probably carries large wages and is 33 who probably wouldn't be a regular.

I've heard that Welliton is good, but never really seen him so I don't know what his game is.

Ed, is Lucas Barrios out of the question?

Stone YNWA. {Ed005's Note - I can't see us going for Barrios, although he is a good player.}

Seen a bit - though admittedly not much - of Welliton and he is a poacher. Fast, great finish and not much else, although in my opinion that's not necessarily bad, we need a Hernandez.
Isaac

Diouf will NEVER be welcome in Liverpool. One of the few ex players who will always walk alone.

I am amazed that anyone in there right mind would suggest Diouf, the bloke is as bad as Barton Ross

Ha ha hah Diouf! Now that is funny.

Anyway, I believe we could be looking at Marcus Pedersen or Van Wolfswinkel as a young, up and coming 3rd striker to replace David Ngog, who is not up to the standard.

06 May 2011 16:39:56
I think Aguero or Benzema are realisic. DC keeps raving on about a 'marque' or 'big name' signing. This surely means a player in the 30m+ bracket (which these players obviously fit).

I do feel that we will sign a few squad players which would be the likes of Adam, Enrique etc as we are Liverpool and that is what we do but we have spent the money in Jan, albeit money we have earned. These Yanks are not here to mess about, they want success and are hopefully realising that there is only one way to get it in the modern game, and that is to SPEND SPEND SPEND.

If nothing else, it is hardly unthinkable. YNWA96

Two things ed - why are we talking about Joe Cole having a better year next year? I don't want the bloke on the playing staff. He has taken a fortune in wages and hardly played a game! Shelvey makes him look so so yesterday's man. We shoudl ship the player out asap.
Second point - Ada Turan has gone quiet recently. I think we lost him, what do you think?
P.S. Great to see Steve Parker STILL being talked about on here. I used to love the guy's posts. He must have an amazing PR man the way we still see him around! ! ! ! ! !
Paul Weslake (Staffs) {Ed001's Note - I can only think people were sucked in by the way the media bigged him up due to Cole being English. He was always an average player with delusions of greatness. Ability is there by the bucketload, but he lacks the intelligence to use it. As for Turan, he is pretty much signed for Atletico, though he would love to join us.}

06 May 2011 15:44:54
I'm amazed at people stating Joe Cole will be leaving for £6-10 million when we signed him for free. I expect him to leave, if he does, for around £2-5 million. And in another note, I would love the following signings:
Coentrao, although Enrique looks more likely
Gary Cahill
Juan Mata
Xabi Alonso
Ashley Young

Take out ashley young, replace him with ibrahim affelay or arda turan or eden hazard, take out gary cahill and replace with samba, cissokho, richards or rolando

YNWA. {Ed001's Note - the Afellay stories are just an attempt to get him more first team football from what I can find out. He doesn't seem to have any real interest in leaving, just wants more playing time. The takeover was hard work, I don't think I slept for about 4 days at the end of it. Thanks then to you and the editor team, I remember every time I stopped doing my new kitchen I was on the site and through he night when I should have been tiling I couldn't stay away, reading the other posts we all were feeling the same things, fears, anticipation, excitement, dread and even at the end we were still left hoping, but unsure. these are the things that make football fannery the best and the worst. .the book has brought it all back and not posting for a while wanted to give you an up for the effort you clearly had to put in. A lot of dreamers come on this site. They don't have any sources other than media hype. They asks the eds opinion & when the eds give them an informed opinion they still can't accept it. I wish people would wake up because Aquilani, Sanchez etc will not be at LFC any time soon.

Ed, I never realized that international transfers had to be completed before the end of June is this something that FIFA has recently introduced? {Ed001's Note - I am going to have to check this out because I believed that the international transfer window didn't open until the 1st of July and closed at midnight on the 31st of August. I thought it was domestic transfers that could begin as soon as the season ended.}

{Ed002's Note - The domestic window opens at the beginning of the close season (the day after the last game) and runs to August 31. The international window opens early June and runs to August 31.}

06 May 2011 15:23:31
Players like Enrique, Adam, McCarthy, Young and Jarvis will make our squad better but other teams will improve their squad as well. city are after players like sanchez, united are after players like snijder, chelsea will be out there bidding for every quality player available, arsenal will buy expensive center back and the likes of hazard, spurs will try to buy a world class striker. so if you see that list we will still end up short. during benitez we bought many wide men like riera, gonzaez, penant, babel, benayou. all looked good players before they came. but they were not enough. we always ended up needing more quality.
We should be after players like mata, Adam Johnson, Affellay, Mv'lla, Cissokho, Sakho to expectations of title challenging and secure 4th spot. and bare in mind all the top 4 teams now know they performed below the bar. there will not be easy slips up next season.

Sorry to be a nuisance, but surely the club is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it? Considering NESV/ FSG paid around £300 million, surely that's all the clubs worth?
If anything, the low valuation probably shows just how stupid H&G's lawsuit is, and how overvalued the club was considering the chaos before the takeover.

{Ed002's Note - It is not what the club is worth that is in question here, it is what the club is valued at. As for the H&G case, it is nothing to do with the value of the club per se, it is to do with there being a better offer on the table to buy the club, with that offer being rejected by RBS.}

the lawsuit hasnt a leg to stand on anyway, broughton was brought in to over see the sale with 2 key factors 1 to get RBS its money back 2 to provide the best owners possible for the club which he did, the fact there was more money on offer doesn't mean that whoever had offered it were the right owners for the club, he decided that a company with sports backgrounds was a better deal for the club an its fans rather than a dodgy middle eastern prince

Ed is there new stuff about The Sun then? You said Steve Parker was writing about it. Has something happened I missed then? {Ed001's Note - no, he just tried to use these pages to begin a campaign to get Liverpool fans back reading it.}

I don't think that's right ed0001. He was saying that we shouldn't be just sheep and ignore it without considering why we are not reading it. I didn't agree with him then and not now but he was entitled to say that. I just flicked thru those posts and I can't see where he said that we shud read it again. I'd be interested in hearing from him why but from your words that will be banned. That's okay as i don't agree with The Sun but we shud have our facts right shudn't we? {Ed001's Note - no, I deleted everything he posted about it following that because it amounted to an advertising campaign for a lying rag that should not be read by intelligent people. The very fact that that rag is still regularly up in court for lying to its readership should be enough to say that there is no reason to discontinue the boycott.}

Fair enough ed0001 but isn't it a bit like the Arabs stopping anyone from asking questions about things in their country in case they are right? I hate The Sun but its childish to ignore the fact that some people read it. I agree with you on this one ed, just pissed off that the bloke don't write on here anymore. {Ed001's Note - I have no problem with people having their own opinions on it, but this is not the place for it, I have personal reasons to detest the S*n and what he had to say went too far. So he was asked not to continue with it and he did. This whole issue was him getting upset because some posts were not getting through, sometimes it does happen. Servers aren't perfect and when we make changes it can cause problems, sometimes it can be something as silly as a link or symbol used confusing the programming. Sometimes it will be because stuff in the post can not be placed on the site. He has made a choice not to post because of it, no one is stopping him but him, he was not banned and I am sure he could start a blog or something if he didn't wish to post his thoughts here any longer. I would be quite happy to share the link to it if that is what he decided (so long as he remembered to post without the http:// or it will get caught in the spam filter!).}

I despise the Sun and the naive 'Liverpool' supporters who still read it. Maybe it has gone on too long, but we have principles. I hope that reporter fella reads this and I hope that he knows that apart from the lies and slurs inflicted on the dead and good supporters of the city, his paper is still a load of southern-based sensationalist w*****g material s***e! ! . That so called paper and the News of the world for that matter ? Tried to disgrace the fans of Liverpool f.c by it's lies and rubbish. I was at Hillsborough and can tell anyone that the fans that day were a credit to the club. They ripped down advertising hoardings and used them as make shift stretchers to help ferry the injured to safety. Whilst most of the police formed a corden on the halfway line. And at one point the police were pushing fans back in the pens.The police had no idea that day. And that paper told nothing but lies and have shown disrespect to the 96. R.I.P
Justice for the 96.

Ed who do u think should win player of the season {Ed002's Note - I have no opinion on the matter myself, but others will no doubt chip in. I'll say Kuyt to get it going.}

Wrong again Ed002 mate. It's Lucas and Kelly for young player of the year, for me anyway.

Blair Mayne YNWA

The first half of the season we were a crock of sh*t. I think it is between 3 players, Kuyt, Lucas, Suarez. Ross {Ed001's Note - I would rule out Suarez and Carroll, simply because they only joined in January. I have to give my vote to Lucas, he has missed very few and had a good solid season with very few bad games.}

I'd go with Lucas due to keeping his head up when his own fans have a go and never chant his name or Kuyt

I will go with Kuyt as player of the year followed by Lucas.

an american red

I think Lucas has been the most consistent player this season, and would be a worthy winner, but Suarez has been awesome since he joined. Ross

Close fight between them but I would pick kuyt over lucas. And to think these two were(or still are) the most maligned players in the eyes of some 'fans'. . .

VM YNWA

Lucas or Meireles for me

Id probably go with Gerrard for all the past work he has done for the club

We can't forget Pepe, He earned us few points with some fantastic saves

Some people in the past say lucas only passes 3 or 4 yds , they obviously havent watched xavi or iniesta were 90% of their passes only go 2 or 3 yards Lucas is a credit to Liverpool for his workrate and attitude , never hiding despite the lack of support for him from some fickle fans

Hi Ed's,
Afellay is the name that has sprung up today.
It's either old stories resurfacing daily or a new name,
Who do you think or which positions do you think are real targets?
Personally it's CB, LB, CM and a winger or two.
Thanks'
Markolfc. {Ed001's Note - those are the targets, along with a striker/winger.}

I red the Steve Parker postings after reading the stuff below and can't see what you r on about saying it was boring. I never saw any of his stuff before but the bloke can write. dnot interested in the messy bits about why he ain't posting anymore but the bit about The Sun got me thinking. is that why you banned the bloke eds? Dont think I agree with him on The Sun bit but was hard stuff. {Ed002's Note - Steve Parker was not banned. As far as I can gather one of his posts went missing (which they do on apretty regular basis) and he became upset by this and decided to longer post. I think he saw it as a conspiracy theory - but it wasn't of course. Or maybe it was?}

06 May 2011 14:21:10
Ed i don't see why Everyone is saying we need to sign a winger when we got Dirk Kuyt on amazing form do you agree or disagree {Ed002's Note - I think that Kenny Dalglish sees Kuyt as a striker in the first instance and a winger as cover. Also, you need to take in to account that whilst he is in nifty form, his crossing is not up to that of a specialist winger.}

06 May 2011 14:25:45
{Ed002's Note - Until the late 60s football had full backs (defenders), half backs (midfield) and forward (strikers).}

Well I wasn't around then and also you say half backs were midfielders? If this guy knew what the old names for positions were then why put Enrique down as a half back? Ain't he a full back?

Corkpoolred

{Ed002's Notes - Back in the good old days there were two defenders (left back and right back, three half backs (centre half, right half and left half) and five forwards (left wing, inside left, right wing, inside right and centre forward.}

Might have to reduce a few sits around the bench to fit all those players in ha! Carroll won't be replaced in the summer and seen as the 3rd choice, I can guarantee that and I don't have any sources or whatever. IT'S COMMON SENSE! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Corkpoolred

Please stop this, carroll won't be on the bench, we dindt pay 35mill for him, meireles won't be benched, and kelly won't be benched(i don't think so)
Kuyt will start 8/10 times. And douchez won't sign because hi was looked at as a replacement for reina wich is no leaving.

ONE half-back is coming in. No centre-backs are coming in. The half-back most likely to join is Jose Enrique.

Not a empty back, Not a full back, But a half back ha ha! Get real, this is going to be a big summer for LFC and we won't so little.

Corkpoolred {Ed002's Note - Until the late 60s football had full backs (defenders), half backs (midfield) and forward (strikers).}

ED,
What's the chance of Liverpool getting 4th because they are 7 points behing man city but man city have a game in hand

{Ed002's Note - Possible but most unlikely as it would mean if Liverpool taking 9 points from 9, Manchester City taking no more than 2 from 12 and Spurs taking no more than 9 from 12 - without getting dragged in to goal differences.}

If Man City win only one of their last 3 games they put us out of contention for 4th.

I worked out what i would take to finish 4th very unlikely! ! however here goes

as it stands know

Liverpool Pld 35 55pts GD +15
Spurs Pld 34 55pts GD +7
Man City Pld 34 62 pts GD +22

Liverpool win all three games 2-0 leving us on 64Pts GD+21

Spurs win three of the last four game (loss to liverpool and beat Man city) leaves them at 64pts GD they would have to make up 16 goals over three games against blackpool, Man city and Brimingham which will take some doing to finsih above liverpool on GD

Man city
we require them to lose againt everton (A) and spurs (H) and draw against Stoke (H) a couple of days after FA cup Final and the draw againt Bolton (A) last game of the season take it as they lose to Everton and Spurs by one goal this would leave Man City on 64pts GD +21

Therfore table after 38games would

4th Liverpool 64pts GD+21
5th Man City 64pts GD+20
6th Spurs 64pts aprox GD10

hope this clears it up never going to happen! !

Reserves is the key word there! Pity he can't do it against the big boys!

If we are to challenge for honours next season we need better players than Adam/ Young/ Cahill etc. Mediocre at best and will not improve us in any way. Better spend 20m on a class act rather than 10m here and 10m there on average players. The squad needs only touching up and not a complete overhaul. The youngsters coming through are all class and joe cole can't have another season like this! Nows the time to make BIG moves as chelsea and united are not as strong as they once were and we can reclaim our status as the best team in the world(long over due)

Chelsea double last year and possible United double this year. Not sure what you mean about them not being as strong?!

Surely everyone must see that there has been no standout team this year. united and chelsea are the best of a bad lot so to speak. Liverpool have beaten both and with a couple of quality signings could be there or there abouts next season.

You are both wrong lads. If we are looking at a "half back" then look no further than Ellis Green or Woodhead (Patriots) who would both make excellent additions imo.

Blair Mayne YNWA

However the Patriots always sell at a premium & will want big money for Woodhead (quoted 27 million, not worth 5 million IMO). We might want to try for Mendenhall (after his comments on twitter, the Steelers are looking to sell). He fits the FSG profile: young, talented & we will make a profit when we sell him ;)

good squad, plenty of options and youngsters to come in every now and again. We need to keep cole and aquilani as they are great players who just need time to settle.
I honestly believe that this squad is as good as any in the premiership. Thoughts. . . {Ed001's Note - you really think Clichy, Enrique and Owen are worth getting? I am amazed, but then you think it is worth keeping Cole and Aqualani so maybe I shouldn't be surprised!}

ps- I still cannot stop laughing about your response.

This is a very poor team, Cole, Aqualani and Owen are not good enough for LFC, And you say the team has plenty of options. This team will not get us into the top four next year. Ross

Not Michael Owen why would we want him back

Couldnt agree more with the original post. Cole and aquilani are good players and anyone who disagrees hasnt been watching football the last 5 years. Who would you buy Ed?? Benzema?? Alonso?? Why don't we bid for Messi/neymar/fabregas etc?? lol. Some of the names are so unrealistic but i suppose it keeps the posts interesting? No point saying we should sign 5 guys at 25m each cause it aint going to happen. Wake up Ed {Ed001's Note - no, you need to wake up, Cole has never been a good player and Aqualani is too wimpy to cope with the English league. You obviously haven't been watching football, or perhaps you have only lived through the last five years? I have consistently said I don't want Benzema, so why are you trying to act like you are smart by putting his name forward? If you are going to have a dig at least try and use some intelligence and not make it so easy for me to just laugh at the ludicrous lack of sense you have shown. Perhaps one day you should read back and realise that I have been the one talking down the chances of signing lots of big name players.}

You didn t watch last night reserve game then, Cole was being showed up by pretty much everyone. He has been a massive disappointment this season and Aqualani would go missing, and you tell the eds to wake up. I think you should stick to video games. Ross

As i said, Young and Downling are very likely and i am certain of Adam Johnson. Benzema deal is agreed and will still go ahead.

Macca {Ed0

I can t see villa letting Downing and Young go, but I would be over the moon for us to sign Benzema he is quality, and would give us the strike force we have needed for years, Personally I would prefer it, if we signed Turan and Payet, but I doubt we will get Turan. Ross

Because he had a whinge at us doesn't mean some of us didn't enjoy reading what he had to say. I can't speak for all the editors but most of them enjoyed what he posted, but that doesn't mean he should be able to act like a spoilt little brat. It was bad enough that I continually had to remove his remarks about how we should stop boycotting the S*n.}

Bit harsh ed. i liked his stuff and i remmber the bits about the Syun. But isn't that censorship and wasn't that what he was on about? Not sure, but he didn't come across as a brat like what you saying. Seems like you having a go at him when all you know is his name. that's not right. I liked reading his Madness stuff and what's wrong with that?
Tony 10

This Steve Parker stuff is just getting h*cking stupid now. Steve Parker left the site because i disagreed with him on what Standered's Chartered PR man said. About LFC should be looking at the Middle East etc for players.

I asked Steve for a reply he said he tried to but it never went through. And that he wouldn't be posting again. If he wants to get on like a big girls blouse when someone disagree's with him then that's his perogative. Keep an eye on the many people disagree and responed to my BS but i'll still be here.

Blair Mayne YNWA

Ps. It's not the Ed's fault he's not coming back, it's his own perogative.

As the great Columbo would say "Just one more thing"

Chris from Tanworth has took a lot of flack in the past week. For his opinions on Lucas. Chris has taken more than anyone i've ever seen take on this site. But Chris is still here voicing his opinions and sticking to his guns. If Steve dosn't like even one person disagreeing with him? Then just wrap this site up now and we'll post our opinions somewhere else. Because what's the point of voicing our OWN opinions? Especially if we don't agree with each other (which we never do).

Blair Mayne YNWA

Blair you got this one totally wrong mate! Steve Parker didn't have a hissy fit and he certainly did not say anything about what you wrote. This was blown out of all proportion and Steve was in the wrong for chasing it but to be fair to the bloke, he was the BEST poster on here for me and his stuff was interesting, really sharp and mind provoking not like most of the s**t people write. He's still reading I think but not writing. Be respectful to him Blair cos I think he was to you and others on here.

I don't think i have mate. I know Steve didn't say anything about me, why would he? Like Ed001 keeps telling people his reply was lost and because of this he took a hissy fit. Has everyone of your posts made it on? I know mine havn't, thank f*ck anyway it's all BS. Unlike Steve's who posts were very, very good. So therefore if he comes back i will agree with everything he says (including the S*n sh*t) how's that?

Blair Mayne YNWA

From what I remember Steve Parker was insulted by Ed02 and I know he was not happy about that. Don't ever remember him having a go at you Blair. {Ed001's Note - actually he threw a hissy fit at Ed002 over the whole missing posts thing.}

OK but without people like Steve Parker to have a go at Ed002 would just be another reader with a keyboard! {Ed001's Note - no, without people like that having a go at him he would be able to concentrate on sharing what he has heard and not be subjected to abuse.}

Don't understand what you're trying to say Blair. You seem annoyed with the bloke but all I was saying was that I don't think he was annoyed with you! I can't remember seeing anything were he hadan abusive pop at anyone. I got the impression from his writing that he was a faily clued up guy and effing and blinding wasn't his style. Might be wrong but he seemed like a bloke with a good grasp of football stuff. Maybe I just liked reading his stuff and maybe he wasn't as good I remember? Don't get all moody on me tho Blair and say you'll agree with everything he writes. I didn't and didn't agree with the way he wanted to look again at The Sun issue. BUT THE bloke did have a right to pose orkward questions as we live in a democracy.

You ask Blair to be respectful to Steve and then call most of the posts sh*t. How about try and a be a little more respectful yourself. This is a banter site and people are allowed to express there opinions, irrespective of whether they are good, bad or indifferent. Ross

I said to you in my earlier post mate he didn't have a go at me. If you remember all this then surely you can remember just after he took his "hissy fit". He turned on the Ed's big style and was very abusive and left no name. Then in his final response to me saying that his "post didn't make it on". Ed001 said "You will put your name to this post, but not to the abusive ones" and then the unamed poster (Steve Parker) asked how does the Ed know that he was Steve. The Ed said "Same IP address"

Apology mate for going on a bit but this is infact the truth.

Blair Mayne YNWA

Ps. Do i lie Steve?

Ross I wasn't being disrespectful but reading thru the posts every day, most of them are just retreads of stuff people have grabbed from other sources. What I was trying to say (and didn't do it very well, sorry!) was thet Steve Parker's posts were really thoughts and observations on football, not just endless drivel and lists that we mostly get. That's what i was saying. Blair writes good stuff and I said that but surely I'm eneitled to say that Parker's stuff was the best?

Not me, he just said obvious things in a moaning way, i never found them funny or interesting and after reading a few i just scrolled past the rest

You should put your name on your posts aswell, mate!
Just because you and others enjoyed his posts it does not mean that we all did, it's a matter of choice, i just didn't find them very ineresting, we all know Wenger moans, we all know some football commentary is awful and on a football website some of us don't like to be told what we should read and what the living conditions are like in Brazil. it's called ''each to their own! !''

Well this has got me mixed up! ! Maybe I'm imagining this and the eds will tell me if I am, but I'm sure I remember reading that Steve was posting from his laptop in a coffee shop? Now you got me going wondering if that was what I remember? Anyway did he not say that anyone could be posting from that ip addy? I might be wrong but all it seems is that we are beating up on a guy who was a great read and no longer here (I think you're reading aren't you Steve? Hello?) and I want to read some of his tuff again so want to ask him to come back. Seems hard if we diss the geezer all the time.

I fully expect LFC to be back in the champions league the season after next, so I think it would be a great time to join LFC, one season to gel into the squad, you have to be one of the favourits to win the europa cup, a good EPL season and two domestic cup runs should gel the squad together nicely, so I believe now is the time to join LFC, and Im a Chelsea fan.

06 May 2011 12:10:50
Many on this site seem to think LFC can't attract the big names. Wether or not we are in the Champions League this season or not may not discourage potential signings because everybody can see the direction in which LFC are heading. Remember all the negative press we were getting a few months ago. The £20 million worth of losses is actually a sign of a bright future according to the experts. We're not just heading in the right direction economically but we've amassed more points than any other BPL team besides Chelsea since January. This is consistency, something we've lacked for years. I realistically expect us to be right in the thick of it next season & back in the Champions Leauge the following season. Our academy is in excellent condition at the moment. Our fanbase & marketability are also second to none. There are so many positives that I don't have the time to mention but I believe we'll be attracting the best young players in the world.

06 May 2011 11:41:11
As we have bought in a youth policy i think the following players would be ideal signings for us as they are all young and have bags of potential: Lukaku, Hazard, Muniain, Affelay, M'Vila, Cissokho and Jones. What is your opinion Ed? Are any of them potential signings?

Cheers Harry {Ed002's Note - Two or three are possible signings and a couple are really not going to happen.}

When the new transfer window opens, the deals will move slowly for some of your targets, some deals will be ready to go straight away, but others will depend on players sales, so Comolli will have his work cut out trying to balence sales and purchases, so you will have to show some patientover the summer.

{Ed002's Note - More significant is that there are two separate transfer window openings. One for English deals (end of the season) and on for International deals (early June).}

Ed, how are the Moussa talks progressing? Any idea when a deal will likely be agreed?
Also, with Yann. Have we perked our interest up by perhaps making a formal approach to the club/ player?

With regard to Mamadou, I've heard on the grapevine that we've baulked at PSG's asking price, believed to be about £17m. What do you have on this?

Lastly, to your knowledge, how and to what extent has the lack Champions League football impacted on the deals LFC's been working on thus far?

Fowler Bless Ye All
Cudroe

{Ed002's Note - With respect to Sissoko and M'Vila I very much doubt there is anything further at this time; Sakho is proving very expensive for anyone who has shown interest. I don't know that there has been any impact yet with respect to Champions League football.}

Watched the reserves play last night, Shelvey was class above and showed if he is played in his best position he is an excellent player. I think he is at least as good as Stevie G at his age.
Wilson, Wisdom, Suso and the goalkeeper Chamberlain were also good. Sorry to say Poulsen and Cole looked average even playing for the reserves, Ince needs to learn how to pass the ball and stop glory hunting.

Wisdom awesome suso and shelvey was brilliant. my thoughts exactly on Poulson an Cole those players should grab the game by the neck but they did little apart from miss-hit shots and give possession away, thought he was very lucky with the deflection for the goal it it was his rear end it hit am sure he would of claimed it. not worth the 90,000 PW

Reading all the rumours and this is my first 11 I would pick from everyones predictions:

Reina
Johnson Carragher Agger Enrique
Lucas
Gerrard Young
Suarez Carroll Mata

I put Carra there because he shapes the team brilliant on the field. It's no real big change to the starting 11 and where bringing in needed players.

Corkpoolred

As good a buy as Mata will be I just can't see it happening. Mainly because we aren't quite the Spanish force we used to be and also because we need width down the left and Mata loves to drift into he middle.

Maybe replace Mata with Adam Johnson?

Ed is it true about Lennon having a fall out with Harry? If so do you think this will result in a bid from Liverpool? {Ed002's Note - {Ed002's Note - No I don't keep up with gossip and no don't expect a bid from Liverpool.}

Lennon is not worthy of wearing the shirt. Plus he has no end product. We will never sign him or Bale. Please stop asking.

Hi Ed,

I would like to the reds sign Phil Jones CB, Gael Clichy at LB, Xabi Alonso CM, M'Villa CM, Payet WG and Gomez ST.

Is there any truth in any of these players coming to anfield.

Thanks {Ed002's Note - Some are possible.}

06 May 2011 08:13:38
Ed what do you make of the news report with Ian Ayre announcing losses at Liverpool. Doom mongerers are saying it will affect our transfers. I always thought the £17m annual debt payments had been put to bed once H&G were ousted and a large portion of their debt paid off.

Is this bad news for Liverpool?

Adam {Ed002's Note - The losses pre-date the new owners and only reflect the status until July 2010. However, I would expect further losses this year as the club will have to account for the costs associated with the sale of the business, the removal of two managers/sets of coaching staff, removal of the medical team, etc.. But you are correct that the interest payments are now gone as the club moves forward and there will be further increases in revenue - which although showed an increase over the previous season, was a still a disappointing £185M. Whichever way you look at it, things are getting better.}

Roy Hodson:
Played: 20
Won: 7 35%
Draw: 4 20%
Loss: 9 45%
Total points: 25

Kenny Dalgish :
Played: 15
Won: 9 60%
Draw: 3 20%
Loss: 3 20%
Total points: 30

IF King Kenny was in-charge from the start of the season:
Played: 35
Won: 21 60%
Draw: 7 20%
Loss: 7 20%
Total points: 70pts

Liverpool's failure of this season is because of the people who gave the managerial job to Mr.Roy Hodson & the New Owners who kept him again and again till all the damage is done.

Roy Hodson also brought in couple of useless waste which cost us around 10m pounds.

Kenny was keen to get the job before Purslow gave it to Hodson.

And if they had that much they would be joint 2nd with Chelsea and Kenny probably would of beat blackpool so that would make them joint first with man united and they might of won more so they might of won the title

Why do many people keep going on about signing a lb? i think we don't need to spend 10-15 mill on one when we have johnson who can play there and robinson for back up with kelly and flanno on the other side?for me the defence is pretty solid and all we need is 2 world class wingers and a striker who each cost around the 25 mill mark, its about quality not quantity, why waste money on bringing in players when we have people who are as good in them positions ie enrigue, adam, cahill. i would like us to bring in players such as adam johnson, robben maybe and would love to have aguerro i no he would cost alot but he would defo be worth it , with a 3 strike force of suarez carrol aguarro would surely get us close to winning silverware next season, wot does people think!

Sorry but disagree. LB may not be a problem but CB is. Carra is past his best despite being my favourite LFC palyer for years. He does not have long to go. The others are either inconsistent or too injury prone ( we know who we are talking about). We have lots of good youngsters coming through. . .Kelly(I would love to see him at CB rather than RB), Ayala, Wilson, but they need an older head next to them to bring them on. Carra could have done that a few years ago but I feel that time may have gone. Hence, A quality CB is needed.
Every good team is built on defence and then the attacking potential going forward. We need to sort this out first and then build going up front. Wingers would be nice and I am sure we will sign one or two in the summer but for me defence is a worry.

Iggypop {Ed002's Note - This is where Sakho makes a lot of sense - a CB who can cover at LB.}

Yes i agree but i believe it should be lakuku as suarez warrants his place carrol is our biggest signing and lakuku can bide his time- bit by bit, he is 17

Yes, but we already have wilson and agger, both whom are cb's and can cover At lb.
Harry5:)YNWA {Ed002's Note - I think Wilson is a pretty poor left back. So you don't think a CB or LB is needed then?}

We definitely need a good centreback i.e.Scott Dann, a LB (Chissoko, contraeo), a couple of wingers like A.Johnson and Payet, and a good quality back-up striker (Rodellega). If we can get Javi Martinez or someone in that class for CM, that would be great but it's not a vital area imho. A lot of talk about Benzema etc but I can't see it. Why would a supposed top class striker come to Anfield to sit on the bench. We'll be 2 up top, Carroll and Suarez, 2 wingers and 2 CM. 4-4-2 all the way

Morning Ed's

Great site (keep up the good work controlling the mayhem and madness)

These are my player preferences

Phil Jones
(Young and will turn into a top class defender within a couple of years)

Papadopolous
(again another Youngster who could be part of a long term partnership with Jones in cd)

Enrique
(Good gong forward will allow Robinson time to mature into a class LB)

Blaise matuida
Would add some serious steel to the DFM.

James Mcarthy
Young lad with bright future could be a good squad player and allow us time to nurture his obvious talent

Balas Dzudsak
Great skill and pace.

Adam Johnson
(not sure if city would sell to us but regular footie for him would show his true class

Marko Marin
Again another young lad with great skill and pace

Iker munain
Looking at his raw talent, he could and probably will be one of the worlds best

Osvaldo
Yound lad has gone down a storm this season, Complete raw talent but looks the real deal as a striker

Defour
Class and has been for a few seasons, picking up a lot of injuries would be of concern

Martinez
Once dubbed the new Xavi Alonso.no more needs to be said

Banega
Young talented and could be a surprise signing

I know not everyone will agree, but that's just who I would look at .Im sure the King has a secret plan and some of these may be on his list

Ed's your thoughts, (Good, bad , indifferent or GET A LIFE )

REDFORLIFE

Thats a nice list. Would love to have one or two from there joining the club next season.
Of course, dreaming for more than 2 of that selection joining would be in vain.

Definately Iker Munian has the potential to be as good as silva, mata and maybe Jesus navas! . definately worth a go! !

Jones looks good for the future,
Papodopolas (sp) has he ever been mentioned prior to the other night? How good is he?
Enrique Done deal?
Matuida yep!
Mcarthy really not sure looks good at wigan!
Dzudsak er yep
a.johnson not going to happen!
Marin, off to spurs!
Muniain again could be off to spurs according to reports
osvaldo to dear as a third plus i don't think he would compliment the main force? BUT hulk would?
Defour, same thoughts as the original poster
martinez hhhmm i would go for it
banega i like him
BUT i do think forlan may come? He knows suarez very well but i hope he choses turkey?

Rodolfo deserves prase for the talent at OUR disposal.

TomKop7

Ad to other post please ed, sent by mistake

Whilst Rodolfo rightly deserves the praise he receives for the talent we have/will have at our disposal, ultimately it's rafa who should get the plaudits. It was he who brought in/oversaw the majority of the youth set up and was also responsible for bringing Rodolfo from barcelaona. A fact often ignored by Rafa detractors, the emergence of talent from he youth sides will be Rafa's legacy and who better to nurture that talent than Rodolfo and the King!

Well Atleast rafa did something good then

LAVERS

Yeah getting us into the top easily every season bar his last, winning the champions lge, runner up, semi finalist, no1 ranked team in europe, winning the fa cup, signing torres masherano reina alonso garcia, making gerrard + carra both world class all the while fighting the cancers who were hell bent on ruining the club. . suppose he did do the odd thing right!
Some of our fans need to get a serious grip and stop believing everything the media tells them- Rafa consistently did the one thing that the club are trying to achieve at the moment i.e champs lge.
The man's a legend and should be remembered as such. .but long live the king!

Sorry the rant guys but he deserved it. Anyway onto our striker situation. Every1 is talkin bout bringing in a raw young talented striker. Adam Morgan any1?? This guy is young raw talented an my god has this lad got a left peg on him. His ruthless finishing is like watching god banging them in all those years ago. With ken's guidance, I think he will be a legend for us. Would much rather bring him thru than splash 10m-20m on the lukaku's an v winkel's that every1 raves about. If u havnt seen him play, then look him up. What's ur views on morgan ed's an Blair (as u seem to be online)

TomKop7 {Ed001's Note - Morgan has the potential, I was seeing him as the replacement for Kuyt in a few years but he is still just a kid. A well-chosen loan move is what he needs for next season, I think.}

I agree with the Ed TomKop. Send him out on loan to someone like Charlton. They are a half decent club and i think we done a deal with them when we got Shelvey. Were they get a choice of loaning our youngsters and we get 1st choice of their kids. Is this correct Ed?

If so then i send him there and get much needed experience and toughened up a bit. League one is a good League for kids imo. They tackle as if their is no ref and barely get cautioned as all the players are used to it, and the refs too.

Blair Mayne YNWA {Ed001's Note - I am not 100% on that Blair, I can not find anything to corroborate that particular rumour. I would have expected them to take someone like Wisdom on loan if it was true, would be a great move for him.}

I remember the rumoured deal with Charlton after we bought Shelvey, still don't know if it's true. Eccleston went to Charlton on loan, is he still there Ed? I didn't see him for the reserves tonight. As for Wisdom mate i don't think this kid needs toughened up he's built like a brick sh*t house. I think that Wisdom could be good enough for the Championship mate imo.

Blair Mayne YNWA {Ed001's Note - I agree he is for next season Blair, but, at the start of this one, he was not quite at that level. Eccleston is on loan there until the 31st.}

Why not let him train with the 1st team, put him in the squads an giv him widweek games in the reseves aswell. Robbie and Michael were thrown in ther at his age and from what iv seen, this could do a job for us now, spend the money elsewhere in the squad ie. Really world class wingers, Johnson mata turan hazard Sanchez etc.
TomKop7 {Ed001's Note - both God and Owen's careers were badly affected by injuries due to being overstressed as kids. The problem is that the English game is very fast paced and so youngsters need to be carefully used or they will damage their still developing physique.}

With u on that 1 ed but I just don't see the need for a striker when we have 3 who can really cut it for us and a couple of youngsters who could be effective ther. Adam and ngoo to be honest. I think as little as 4 players can make us title challenger. Lb cm lw rw and use the youth. Rodolfo

Not true because sami has gone straight into coaching with the Finland national team

Also not true he is going coaching with his current club in germany {Ed001's Note - so that would mean Liverpool couldn't speak to him about coaching with us then?}

Sami has agreed to help out with Finland whilst he takes his coaching qualifications, and then for the start of the 2012 season he will be rejoining Leverkusen as assistant manager. . unfortunate but hopefully he will be back in the Future.

Why would you even ask this? It has never happened or even been thought about, must be a true football fan

To be fair mate it happened once in 2005 when we won the CL. We finished 5th behind Everton in 4th. But still qualified because we won it.

It will not happen again because if you win the CL and finsh outside the top 4 in England, Then the team that finishes 4th has to pay the price.

I am the 1 who stated that never happened, and it didn't, if you re-read the original post to which i commented on. In 2005 we qualified for the Champions League becasue we won it, the originalquestion was if Man Utd win it does it go to fifth place, as i recall in 2005 we did not win the league and finish 5th. Therefore my statement is valid

Why is there no rumour linking us to Royston Drenthe. he was heavily linked to us last year and he even posted his arrival to Liverpool on face book. Here is what came across on Dutch website. . Liverpool will take over Royston Drenthe of Real Madrid, know the Spanish newspaper Marca reported today. The former club Feyenoord's Dirk Kuyt has asked the people of Madrid Drenthe to take over. Liverpool is looking for cheap reinforcements, the club is in financial trouble.
Drenthe to Madrid left in 2007 and played 45 games so far and it hit the target twice. Drenthe could move to England to find his compatriots he is Dirk Kuyt.

The possible transfer of Royston Drenthe is favorable for Feyenoord Rotterdam went through the many youth teams in the Feyenoord stadium club and can therefore count on a substantial training fee
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Although not totally unrealistic, the fact this makes absolutely no grammatical sense whatsoever, i disagree.

WTH???? is this drival hard to understand or what?

That looks like a translation from a Dutch website. That can account for it looking garbled.

Grayswood

Maybe English is not this posters 'mother tongue', so take it easy on him/her folks.

I do think Drenthe would be a brilliant signing though (if that's what was suggested?). He would be cheap and is definitely open to moving after being targetted by Madrid's fascist fans after making some poorly judged comments to the media (back in Jan or so as far as I remember?).

He's young, a speed demon & also a left winger, a natural left footer too - we need natural width on the left, not (in my opinion) Ashley Young cutting inside.

Drenthe also has experience at left-back & as such is more competent defensively than most wingers. I can think of few better more exciting options for the left wing for what would surely be a reasonable price. (i'd say a few million, again, he WILL be sold - or 'offloaded asap' might be a better way to put it!).

Be warned though, there are risks. He likes the 'rap music', 'the hip-hop' & 'the twitter'! Apparently he has suffered from confidence issues in the past at Real after being jeered by his own fans. He needs to feel wanted. Kenny could be just the father-figure he needs - according to the media his form is said to have been very good on loan this season.

I admit I haven't seen him play since he was in the Real side, but I saw bags of potential then & lets face it, replacing Zidane on the left was never gonna be an easy task, just playing in that position was always gonna be a curse! !

We could give him the platform to be a regular starter in the Dutch team & to become a top-class player. We need more than one player for the left-wing slot, that much is obvious.

A few million for Drenthe looks to me a gamble worth taking. He could be fantastic! Imagine right-backs trying to deal with him & Suarez tearing at them! Has me salivating!

Go get him Kenny/Commoli! I can't think of a more exciting, natural & realistic option for the position - he'd be much cheaper than the likes of Downing too!

Any opinions on this or better options/suggestions eds -or anyone else?? Looks a good low-risk, high reward gamble to me).

BJH YNWA {Ed001's Note - he has been on loan at Hercules and been very poor, I just don't think he is good enough.}

Drenthe is what my oul granny would have called a boke. Diving skills to put ronny (and masch) to shame

Ulsterpool

Strange point of view ed01. I know he's been on loan at Hercules. As I said, I just haven't seen him play there. It seems (according to reports) that a dispute over wages - a blocked move to Juve -and injuries have limited his appearances this season, but the reports seem to suggest that when he does play he's been very good at times. His peformace away to Sociedad a month ago in which he scored twice in a crucial 3-1 win was meant to have been excellent.

His form has apparently led to interest from Juve & Milan (sounds plausible, they both buy cheap!) & also led to him winning his first cap for Holland (again, while on loan) back in November.

The reports do say that his form had indeed dipped during the disputes with Hercules but he is now playing like a man with a point to prove.

Have you watched a lot of Hercules games Ed01? Or are you just speculating?

When I watched him play for Real he was certainly good enough & looked a future star. IMO he'd walk into our team as it is! Simply because we don't have anyone for the left! Is your opinion informed is what I'm wondering? - I may be wrong but I have my doubts about that! sorry mate! But just saying 'he has been very poor' seems a bit lame, and pretty contradictory to the reports I've been reading about Drenthe this season.

I'm not trying to be rude, but I have the feeling I may have seen more of Drenthe than you, and I haven't seen him play in ages! ! Thats why I was hoping for a reliable update on his progress. I meant does anyone who has seen him play recently (or at all) have any opinions on him, or know of better options than him available.

Any suggestions on players you may have seen more of for the LW though eds???

Leave the FM2011-style, 'I haven't seen him but he's great/crap' player reviews to us posters! ! Cheers for replying all the same though! ! (again, any good suggestions of players you've seen though?).

BJH YNWA {Ed001's Note - I have seen him a few times this season, he was excellent up to a point against Barca, but he doesn't actually have any real quality to his game in my opinion. He runs up and down the wing very fast and whips the ball in to no one, he just doesn't seem to have anything other than pace.}

@Ulsterpool - hehe, if we're gonna let Suarez dive about then why not the rest of them eh! Prepare for lots of angry - red-carded full-backs & irate opposition fans!

I don't like diving either, but theres something kind of funny and crazy about Suarez, when he dives he makes me laugh - I think its the face of innocence he puts on - he can barely keep a straight face himself at times!

The hair-pulling against Utd, his jumping up and down with rage when he misses a chance. I think we need more of these 'do anything to win' types at Liverpool. If anyone disagrees - do you really think we should sell Suarez! Cos trust me, he's gonna have a big reputation for these sorts of shenanighans by the end of next season! (he's a feckin genius too though!)

BJH YNWA

My apologies ed01. That description actually does sound familiar to me, you have seen him play! I was hoping he'd develop his end product as he got older, it was his raw attributes that I thought gave him such potential. He's only 23 I gather though, and the Barca game was their first of the season (as far as I recall - it was a shocking result), he may have gotten better! Is he doomed to be a left-footed Aaron Lennon forever then? A cruel fate!

I still reckon Drenthe is/can be a better player than him, & would be a quality low cost option! Whipping the ball into Big Andy could be good for him (it's hard to miss! lol) as could the attacking nature of our team under Kenny! I reckon he could still improve & just can't think of a better option at a similar price, it reeks of bargain to me! ! Again, apologies ed01, & again, thanks for the reply.

BJH YNWA {Ed001's Note - I do agree, if he can learn to cross, and even Lennon has shown signs of that ability this season, he would be a good player for us. Giggs was very similar when he first appeared, his crossing was woeful until he learnt to slow down a little before whipping the cross in. I wonder if it is a similar problem with Drenthe and Walcott? It is difficult to control a cross at full tilt, especially at the kind of pace they are shifting at!}

I can chip in with a tenner if you want to stump up the rest ed! You never know, I do hope we move for him though. I hear that this Elia is in a similar mould and could be good, though I don't think I've ever seen him play. Its a real task finding a left winger these days. If only I had a time-machine. . . I'd go get John Barnes - and to hell with the space-time continuum! It'd be worth it!
