Next season wishful team

Reina
Johnson skrtle agger. Enrique

lass diarra Lucas

Gerrard. Dempsy. Dembele

Suarez

You want us to be fulham?

If thats your wishful team id hate to see your realistic team
Nzl_red

I think diarra would be a good signing. hes 27 years young with good experience.

take away Dempsy and put in gerrard and at the right put in afellay

that would be a realistic shout although dembele would not be cheap and would he come.

I heard that they flew over to england scared to get the deal done in time for september. last minute buying is so exciting. On a serious note i think that they may well sign for us

Eds022 was wondering if you were going to do player profile on Younès Belhanda {Ed022's Note - I am indeed mate. Will be up tomorrow with any luck mate.}

06 May 2012 23:36:20
Can't believe everyone is slating spearing, yes hes had a poor 2nd half of the season but the other season when gerrard was out injured he played blinding games. Hes a good enough player to keep for next season. Henderson has played terrible since he came, same with downing. We just need a winger and right out striker. Bring the youths in for a few games sterling has played amazing for the youth side, same with coady.
Any signs of any transfer been close to negotiations yet? {Ed022's Note - What?}

It wasn't only the FA cup.
He is just not very good at all.

I thInk it's safe to say that any decent players that we are looking at, other richer teams are also looking at. The fact that we are 8th in the league, haven't got champions league football and haven't got the spending power as City, Chelsea, PSG and the likes, means that we are not going to attract top players as firstly we won't be able to afford them especially if a bidding war erupts and secondly, it's highly likely that the players won't want to come to a mid-table team.

Can the eds explain what tricks if any lfc have in being able to buy top players from under the noses of other more successful and wealthier clubs? Thanks. {Ed022's Note - We can offer History, ambition, and a wealth-load of ALWAYS supportive fans.}

How many more 'successful' clubs are there?

Wether Kd stays or a new manager comes what I would love to see is the strongest formation and line up that we have available and let other teams worry about us because I think that's been a big problem this season. How can u predict what the other manager is thinking to be able to counter his decisions. Fergie plays his best team and well to be honest I was gonna list the managers that always play there strongest team and let others worry about them but I would have to list almost all of them exept us. We proved this season that we can beat any team we come up against so why keep changing it. We need a manager that knows his best team and plays them as often as he can. Sorry for rambling on about a simple point but managers that don't want to loose try to counter other teams not managers who want to win just look at all of our draws I would have been happy loosing 2-3 of them games if we really tried and won the rest. My heart is saying give kenny another season but then my head says what if the negative tactics continue.
Sorry for going on like that

I am well aware that I am suffering from the all too common MOTD fever but if ever there was a replacement for gerrard it would have been yaya toure. I don't know who barca bought him from but we should have been there with chequebook at the ready. (Wouldn't fancy paying his wages now like!)
RealisticRed

Did he not have a trial at Arsenal, where Wenger thought he was completely average, or does Kolo have another brother? Looked like possibly a late bloomer maybe to me. Seems like bigger/taller players take a little longer to develop to me

Ska-oop

He played for olympiakos ,monaco

Macca, are we interested in Sahin? He's certainly out of favour at Real Madrid.

Would love him here.

hi ed022, please what is the difference between a manager and a dof? why do we all of a sudden need a dof when we never did? i am confused.thanks
hibsylfc {Ed022's Note - A manager is a manager. A DoF is in charge of scouting, negotiations, strategy etc.}

06 May 2012 22:53:48
Clint Dempsey? Here we go again...... {Ed022's Note - Indeed.}

06 May 2012 22:52:45
It is not about the players, or whatever permutations you want.
It is about the management team.
A good manager can make a good team out of ordinary players.
Who will manage Liverpool ?
A very difficult choice.
Somebody who understands the modern game.
That leaves few choices, even if they are available?

06 May 2012 22:41:22
I know this is a Liverpool site but I've gotta say the Swansea fans have been brilliant this season, I was at the game at anfield and they didn't stop singing all game, I've just watched the game against them mancs and they were very impressive again, fair play to them.

I think all rivals of Swansea had them as their second team this season...they have been excellent

06 May 2012 22:30:21
we should sign luuk de jong and gaston ramirez. both realistic an would cost about 30m together.

we should sell
cole
aquilani
fabio
and maybe a few others

as much as i would love to see munian and soldado n a lfc shirt i cant see it happening but stranger things have happened

I just posted 3 images into the sightings page of the possible kits for next season. Take a look if you get the chance. I've no idea how legit they are.

Eds, whereabouts are they? {Ed022's Note - On the sightings page?}

I can't see them there either, not recent ones anyway? {Ed022's Note - Not a clue then mate.}

06 May 2012 22:18:45
hey eds,if reina departs is there a chance of us getting wayne hennesy?could be cheaper as wolves are relegated and is tall and has made most number of saves this season(167 saves)..... {Ed002's Note - I really don't know.}

--------------------------------

please god i hope not was a lot of the reason wolves went down shocking keeper

Okay so we go for the keeper who's let in one of the most goals in the league? Seriously, some fans are as blind and stupid as kenny

Just 4 words to say.....WELL DONE ANDY CARROLL! Other than that, I'm all out of talking after yesterday's travesty!

06 May 2012 22:12:46
I was just watching man city vs liv from 2008-09 season on espn classic. 2 things:
Reina
arbeloa skrtel agger aurelio
kuyt alonso masch riera
gerrard
torres

our team now:
reina
johnson skrtel agger enrique
lucas adam gerrard
bellamy carroll suarez

and some of you think we just need ' one or two signings' to challenge for the prem.
Also, the football we played under rafa was a lot better than now. we played intelligent through balls with players making runs everywhere. Some of you think we play better now...

Agreed, the team was stronger but the football wasn't better.
the reality is when people talk about the beautiful game under rafa NO ONE ever names any other games apart from the 4-0 against real madrid and then the 4-1 against man utd. fair enough, i agree but that real madrid team was when looking back probably their worst in 15 years. as for the 4-1 against man utd, nemaja vidic had probably his worst ever man utd performance and to sum the game up andrea dossena managed to score a beauty! rara as rocking horse sh!t. take nothing away from the results, it was beautiful to watch but i will not witness man utd fall apart like that against my beloved lfc for probably another 20 years!

i loved what rafa done during his time but i don't look back and reminisce about the football we produced. i'm old enough to remember john barnes and peter beardsley signing and playing. whether kenny stays or goes i honestly feel we are only 3 players away from producing that type of football again.
a combination of instilling self belief and the right additions in the right places.

And when we talk about beautiful football with dalglish you would think about all those points that got away.

Classic example yesterday as to why this buying young talent is a load of tripe. It was men against boys yesterday. Our midfield was an embarrassment, Spearing way over his head, Lampard made him look foolish. Whilst he put a shift in Hendersons quality questionable. Downing should've took off in the first five minutes, bone idol and a fairy, if he carries on pulling out of tackles like he does, he will end up with a broken leg.

For the first time, I am now starting to question Kenny's tactics, 4,5,1?. We invited the trouble, especially since we had little quality and tenacity in the middle and in Downing a winger who doesn't seem to want to run with the ball. We were limited to pushing through our left at a time when Enrique's having a dip in form and Downings bone idol. Consequently Ramires punished us. There was very little that went down our right flank yesterday.

Yesterday just about summed up our season. Just not good enough, devoid of confidence and giving the opposition to much respect as we haven't got enough experienced character in the team. There is not enough experienced quality in our current squad to assist in developing the younger players coming through. If FSG persist with this nonsense resale transfer nonsense, it is only going to compound the problem.

Ozone

------------------------------------------------------------------

4-5-1? The same formation Chelsea used? You havent got a clue Ozone.

The Irish Rover

----------------------------------------------------------------

No you haven't got a clue Irish Rover, Chelsea used that formation because they have a 6 foot 3 beast up front who's played the lone striker many a time, coupled with natural width in Ramires and Kalou, commanding midfield with Lampard and Miikel, mata sat in the hole. Their 451 can be justified. Spearing useless, Suarez not a lone striker, Henderson not experienced enough to give such responsibility and playing with Downing and Bellamy wide with no target up front? What are you on about Irish Rover you muppet.

Ozone

We should have done the same thing to them...Carroll as our lone striker with Suarez allowed to roam like Mata

why do people insist on other people signing their posts, it's not as if you can envisage the person any better {Ed022's Note - Or can you?}

Agree...especially when people sign with a first name or an alias anyway...yeah "Fred the Red" or some other nonsense name really helps me understand the poster better?

Anonymous {Ed022's Note - What a legend Fred is.}

Question for Ed001 or any other Ed or poster that feels winning cups is more important than league performance:

If winning cups is so much more important to you then why is Benitez hammered so much for his reign at LFC when he won every single cup bar the league?

{Ed022's Note - He didn't win the Uefa Cup. Or the Europa League. How about the Carling Cup? Or is my memory playing tricks upon me?}

I think winning cups and league is of equal importance, although we didn't win the FA cup look at the exposure Standard Charterd got, Probably more than winning the leauge that's what they pay for.

Bobbinred

Yeah but he did win the champions league and finish runner up didnt he?
galls {Ed022's Note - Yes but the statement was that Rafa had won everything except the league, which is untrue.}

Im doubting myself now aswel lol was he not in charge in the uefa cup final against alaves, or was that houllier?

Anyway he won a truckload of cups and at the very least got to many finals and semi-finals so on that premise why are people so unhappy with his tenure if winning cups is more important than league performance?
{Ed022's Note - Houllier.}

06 May 2012 21:59:58
I think we will see quite a few players shipped out at the end of this campaign, and whilst it is the Star/Marquee players brought in that will excite us the most, we will probably require a few more squad players also. Their are a few players below I feel wouldn't cost the earth and could improve our squad;
Matt Jarvis
Nathan Dyer
Joe Allen
Jnr Hoillett
Matty Phillips
James McCarthy (highly priced but if relegated would be cheaper)
Scott Dann
Steven Fletcher
Grant Hanley
Mohamed Diame (better than Spearing)
Wilfried Zaha

I read your list of players, and it fills me with absolute depression..I've been a supporter for 39 years and a fellow Red compiles a list of players that probably wouldn't even interest the likes of Sunderland (no disrespect to them). Is this how far we've fallen, or is it me? Rome 77

If we signed any of these (except zaha and Phillips) I will cry.

The original poster mus be a reading or southampton fan.

i was watching gillete soccer special on sky sports news and alan mcinally said that we were rotten against chelsea. that guy really has anger issues and needs to mind his own business. also i can't stand matt lee tissier. i just hope we win our last home game of the season against chelsea (plastic fans). hopefully spearing never plays again for us.

To call us rotten in the first half would have been flattering...

Tbh, we were very very rotten in the first half.
Indian Buzzer {Ed016's Note - Tbh so were Chelsea. My gripe in that game was that Pepe should have stopped that first shot, poor goalkeeping}

Very poor goalkeeping, the 2nd goal from drogba i can understand, but ramires's shot? what was pepe thinking? he didnt even have to move to save the shot.

Must say I love Ed022!
Everytime gives understandable, precise and interesting answers and is very polite and friendly.
And even if he has answered the same question many times before, he answers it again without any complication!

Keep up the great work mate
Lov ya {Ed022's Note - Haha thanks. I am not always polite though, sometimes I'm a very rude, horrible buggar. I must work on not swearing in my replies though I'm told. I will instead resort to Euphamisms, or changing a word in some angry troll's post's. Look out for 'em!}

hi eds! i read every day 2 c wot other lfc fans feel. sum very interesting and sum utter bull***t! i do feel the love 2 keep the king but when i fink about it, he saved a sinking ship but shud b our DOF and hand the wheel 2 a younger captain. im happy with most of the squad, a sharp young striker like RHODES wudn't go a miss though! we do really need 2 add b4 the euros as players will add extra ££'s afterwards. cheers fellas n fellow red fans. fingers crossed 4 nxt yr n remember we have europe 4 nxt yr too.

Ok jay spearing had a disaster yesterday but truth be told he's only 23! He wasn't ready for that final. Kenny should have bought a decent midfielder in January {Ed022's Note - How old is Messi again?}

How old was Gerrard when he came into the liverpool team and dominated the midfield?

Unfortunately Jay is too small to be a midfield general and does not have much natural talent either.

Chelsea simply over powered the liverpool midfield and as for agger he could not match "the drog" for strength and every time agger challenged drogba he lost out.

Chelsea out muscled liverpool

Gone are the days of souness, case, et al when Liverpool could not be out fought, how I long for those days again

The goat of mendes

At 23 he should be well able for big games hes just not good enough and never will be i wish him all the best because he wont be at liverpool next season thats for sure.

Gerrard learned to play premier league midfield from the age of 18 because he was given the opportunity. Spearing has been playing ressie football for 5 years with minimal first team experience. Unfortunately he may be too old to make the step up now. The club have to take some responsibility for this and make sure we don't waste other local talent who would run through a brick wall for the shirt.
Simon

I agree, when the man of the match(juan mata) gets the award it generally means the DM hasn't done the job in the positive areas that he's expected to. spearing is there to protect the areas that mata thrives in, he didn't and was found out for the 2 goals. he was then subsequently removed from the pitch by kenny and the game changed.
andy carroll came on and done exactly what he was bought for and exactly what he done against john terry and alex at st james's park early last season. totally and utterly dominated/bullied them.

Our reserves could out muscle the first team.

Gerard has 6 inches on Spearing (thats in terms of height)

06 May 2012 21:45:54
hi eds, gr8 site btw. jus wanted to ask if u could see AVB or Capello coming in as lfc manager and could the king then take up the D.O.F job if txiki doesnt?
{Ed022's Note - No to all of them.}

06 May 2012 21:43:44
Hey ed's!
May I ask whats the problem with KK, abouth the youngsters, If I have any grudge for him ist that, even he knows that the season in prem. league is spoiled, he didnt play youngsters! I know Stearling got 2 games (only 15min each, despite that he did really well) but whats with Suso, Wisdom, Coady, even Coates could play more.....
If you take a look at Barca, they played really good this season, + they put on the bench 2-3 youngsters which actually played (Tello, Thiago, Montoya, Cuenca...)
I don't know what was the point of pushing Carra in front of Coates, and giving Spearing spot over Suso, or even Shelvy (I know both of them are more attacking midfielders, but what the hell... Spearing is one of the weakest links in our team and he is still pushing him to play (on this point I actually do not care even if he is from our own LFC school))
Give me some backup, your thoughts :)

regards Luka {Ed022's Note - My problem is the league position and the general year of 2012 thus far.}

06 May 2012 21:38:53
Hey eds great site, I'm looking forward to the euro's and all the transfers but just wondering who you think is Liverpool's number 1 transfer target ,personally would love to see muinian thanks again ps I bet the pool hammer Chelsea during the week when it doesn't count for as much ynwa
Lucky the red {Ed022's Note - Our number one target? I think that's a little bit too vague to ask mate.}

Ed22 a little bit too vague? They asked in your view what the number one target was, quite specific actually {Ed022's Note - What I meant by vague was the question itself regarding our TOP target. I can tell you all the top targets for positions, but not a general top target. It doesn't really work like that.}

06 May 2012 21:29:33
Hi all, nice to be back after a break.
The news that I have for now:

Transfer Policy
1. Have to sell in order to buy, unless one of the #1 pre approved targets reaches 70% of probability in the pipeline.
2. Any club spending beyond newly set X marker (not only on players) to be approved by someone newly appointed at FSG

Transfers

Heard something going on with Bilbao, not sure yet who it is we are focused on.

Stadium

It came to my attention that some new dispute in Liverpool city council will cause further delay regarding the possible decision to redevelop Anfield
As always, keep up the good work Tris and all the Eds

I would go for the following options, I think they are realistic and attainable:

ST: Luuk De Jong
RW: Younes Belhanda/Markel Susaeta
CM: Rasmus Elm

Then attempt to offload: Kuyt, Aurelio, Aquilani, Cole, Johnson, Adam, Spearing and Pacheco.

In the league I see us playing the following line ups:

--------------Reina---------------
--Kelly---Skrtel---Agger---Enrique-
----------Lucas----Elm------------
---------------Suarez-------------
---------De Jong---Carroll---------

--------------Reina---------------
-----Coates---Skrtel---Agger------
--------Lucas-----Gerrard----------
--Suseata----Suarez----Downing---
--------De Jong-----Carroll--------

With the Europa League I see us going for the following line up:

------------------Doni-----------------
--Flanagan--Coates--Skrtel--Robinson--
--------------Elm----Coady------------
-----Shelvey---Henderson---Sterling---
----------------Carroll-----------------

Lee Wickham JFT96 YNWA

We wouldn't many games in the league playing only 10 players every game....

Curled1

I like what you've done and the signings are realistic. That said 10 men in the league means were quite likely to get hammered.

Papa G

First team....not enough players.
Second team......wrong system and just doesnt look right balance wise.
Third team.......Robinson will be sent out on loan next season.

Sorry, just realised my error! I thought I had put Henderson in the first line up:

--------------Reina---------------
--Kelly---Skrtel---Agger---Enrique-
-----Henderson-----Lucas---------
-------Elm----------Suarez--------
---------De Jong---Carroll---------

Regarding the 2nd line up, I don't think its the wrong formation. As the 2nd line up is a more attacking option and it can be produced by 3 substitutions. We tend to play more attacking football in the 2nd half generally and I think we would suit the formation.

--------------Reina---------------
-----Coates---Skrtel---Agger------
--------Lucas-----Gerrard----------
--Suseata----Suarez----Downing---
--------De Jong-----Carroll--------

Lee Wickham JFT96 YNWA

If you play with 3 centre backs then you must play with 2 wingbacks. That team would get hammered by any team with decent wingers.

06 May 2012 21:19:13
The loss yesterday is probably good thing. A win and the cracks are papered over for a a very poor season. Changes coming hopefully...

I understand the point you are making but I fail to see how loosing in a final is a good thing at all. As for the "papering over the cracks", I think the league position is a big enough crack for our owners and management to pick up on.

AK

06 May 2012 20:41:30
eriksen 20m
luuk de jong 13m
m'villa 17m
50million
and all realistic
what ya think

Would be great but we'd need a winger too, Suaseta being the one I'd like most. I think Eriksen may cost more and want Champions League though.

Papa G

Only de jong is realistic......

06 May 2012 20:39:50
If rodolfo is good enough, give him the job. Start again and give him a couple of years and some money. Can't do any worst in the league. Anyone agree? We have the basis of a good team, we need another goalie, a dfm to work with Lucas and two creative attackers to complement carol & Suarez. Maybe a left back. Plus whoever comes in from the youngsters.
But regardless of who we get where, they must have blistering pace. We have non at the mo. ( please not Walcott) the ones to move on are obvious to all of us.

Discuss.
Red first & last.

Why would he get two years and not Kenny? And what happens if Rodolfo didnt get the team above 7th in his first season? Would he then have to go??

Even more cause for concern...if his time as manager goes badly and he is removed, do we really believe that he will just return to managing the kids? he is fantastic in his current role developing our youth players

06 May 2012 20:38:03
Worth a try against Chelsea?

----------------- Reina ------------------
------ Kelly - Carragher - Skrtel ------
----------------- Agger ------------------
Johnson - Gerrard - Shelvey - Downing
---------------- Suarez -----------------
---------------- Carroll ------------------

Doni - Aurelio - Henderson - Sterling - Maxi - Bellamy - Kuyt

-Shane.

Coates for Carra

4-4-2

Doni, Johnson, Coates, Agger, Robinson, Kuyt, Shelvey, Henderson, Maxi, Suarez, Carroll

Bench: Reina, Aurelio, Kelly, Coady, Gerrard, Sterling, Bellamy

RedSG

Try the barca system 3-4-3, a back 3 with wing backs. they both get criticised for the defending so find a system to suit their style!
no need for a defensive midfielder(spearing) as the 3 centre backs are there already.

----------------reina
-------kelly---skrtel---agger
johnson---------------------enrique
----------gerrard--shelvey
----suarez---carroll---bellamy

----------------- Reina ------------------
---- Kelly - Carragher - Skrtel ------------
-------------------------------Agger----
Johnson - Gerrard - Shelvey - Maxi-------
---------------- Suarez -----------------
---------------- Carroll ------------------

Doni - Aurelio - Henderson - Sterling - Maxi - Suso - Kuyt {Ed016's Note - Not much riding on this game. Expect Carra to probably be captain. Gerrard won't play the full 90. }

Hi Eds,
if there's someone i couldn't rule out for the manager's job is Roberto MARTINEZ,38.
He know how to get the best out of his players.
Wigan president said that he couldn't stand into his way only if he wants to move to a bigger club.
Martinez won the BPL April award,he managed to beat Man Utd,Liverpool,Arsenal and only Chelsea to beat him by 2 offside goals.
I see him as a more better choice than B.Rodgers.
How do you rate him Eds? {Ed022's Note - He's done very very well at Wigan, and I have no idea how he's been able to keep Wigan up every year. Good enough for Liverpool? Perhaps a little too soon in his career.}

Most Swansea fans seem to think B.Rogers is just running on Martinez' ground work from his spell at the club

A bit too early if we are all honest. he's doen wonders keeping wigan up but he's also not got the team ticking all season for the last 2 years, evidently in the fact that they've been terrible up until feb/march!

06 May 2012 20:31:15
I don't know who else noticed it but when they showed John Henry yesterday at the final he looked like he was sitting on a tack with a mouth full of lemons! I would expect KD to stay on as the manager if no one else is found that would be deemed better. If someone like Unai Emery is found I would expect that KD would happily move upstairs.

If KD stays on I would not expect many new signings because his only justification for the season's results is that it takes time for a team to gel therefore they would not want to upset the balance by bringing in a lot of new players. The only exception to this would be replacements for possible players leaving as I expect FSG will want to lower they wage bill.

If a new manager comes in I expect that he will be given relatively significant funds to totally rebuild the squad. If this happens I would expect FSG to come out and state that we are re-building and a top 6 finish is expected next year with the outside hope of a top four finish.

No matter what it will take time to shift out the older and higher paid squad members and bring in younger lower wage players. Under no circumstance will we let Stevie G go he is the face of the club and you can say whatever you want about his performances but the fact stays that he is the face of LFC. Who else's mug are they going to plaster everything with AC, Carra, Suarez?

Yet another fool. Kuyt is out of contract next season and will therefore command a fee of closer to £1m. Adam will be staying. Aquilani should be going but the fee would be £5m and clubs are obviously shy of taking him permanantly. Football Manager is where you belong my friend, sorry {Ed022's Note - Kuyt will be going for more than 1 bloody million.}

Haha how can u take the piss when u say that kuyt will be sold for 1 million?! U must fail at fantasy football

Dont understand why nobody has contemplated the idea that we may not bring in a new DOF?

The owners are highly evolved beings and very business savvy so they will not be stuck in their ways and will be prepared to change tact if needed.

I have always said I dont think they will bring in a new DOF. I really hope they're lining up Benitez as he is perfect for FSG and would explain no DOF being appointed.

FSG want resale value on players and Benitez has demonstrated he can buy players that can be sold for a considerable profit later i.e. Torres, Mashcherano, Alonso.

FSG love stats, they are all about statistics...when they analyze the records of all the managers around the globe Benitez will come out on top. This is a guy who wrestled the La Liga from Barca and Real and led an average Liverpool team to a european cup.

I could go on all night...Benitez is a legend. You dont appreciate greatness until its gone.

No-ones saying he is bad, but i think its about time we moved on to something new and tried to move fowards.

Could you just Imagine it J. Henry fighting all the time with RAFA, how long before the DIVORCE

Rafa is 4 beers short of a six pack, forget him

By far the best manager we have had during the premiership years, who worked under the evil that was hicks, gillet and parry. i would take him back any day

Hi,

Roll on next season, and another summer. Think we could do with one more striker to have three in rotation. And i feel we need a winger and a CM to replace spearing/adam (when he having a bad game)/ Gerrard when he is injured.

I would like to see munian, and whoever else. Just think munian would be great signing.

I think there won't be a transfer budget more of a player by player basis. I think the owners have always followed this business model. They know they have good revenue and are looking to increase that so they will spend if the right player becomes available.

Yesterday was disappointing, but on a positive note:

If Carroll consistently plays like how he did yesterday, then he will easily live up to his price tag.

If we had Lucas yesterday (like we will next season), then the midfield situation would have been completely different.

When we sign a quality right winger, we can then start playing Henderson in the midfield - where he is much better.

All we really need to compete next season is a starting right winger, another quality striker in our rotation, and a better backup defensive midfielder.

Also, if we end up bringing Rafa back, then I will be happy if he is our first-team coach, but I will not be happy if he is our manager. He is a great tactician, but I do not think he is the best man-manager. I think Dalglish is a great man-manager, but we just need a little more quality (on the field and behind the scenes) and better luck to succeed next season.

Thanks,

CSeiling

You really think Benitez would go anywhere and not be the manager?

The reason he hasn't got a job yet is because he wants to control everything at a football club. Scouting, Transfer negotiations, Player wages, the Academy pretty much the whole shabang!

I would take him back as manager, IF he has a DoF or a CEO who is able to reign him in.

RedSG

RedSG,

I also believe he would prefer to be manager. He hasn't worked for a while though, and he still has a home in Liverpool. Also, he still really likes the club, so he may take a first-team coach role just because of his connections to and feelings for the club. I don't think it's out of the question, but I agree that it would be difficult to swallow your pride after winning the Champs League as a manager.

Thanks,

CSeiling

You know what will top this all carrol starting against chelsea and then we play maxi and kuyt as wingers who can't cross..lol..I can totaly see kenny doing that..
How many times have we all see that when andy is on pitch we have players on pitch who likes to keep ball on floor and when he is taken off then on comes Mr.downing putting those croses in..
You guys also may remember the famous 20M quote from kenny on downing "he is better then what we thought when we bought him"
I wonder when will villa ask for 10M more for downing after this quote..

Basically our whole squad lol?

That is a huge list but I don't think he meant get rid of them in one transfer window...have another look and count how many on that list are actually worth holding onto for the next two years...no wonder we're struggling...

Enrique n shelvey? What wrong have they done?
Indian Buzzer {Ed016's Note - Enrique showed that he is a brilliant full back, not a very good Wing back, wich has been a major flaw in Kenny's tactics this season.}

Funny how one of the above comments is only asking why bellamy! you obviously agree with me on the rest then? he was a good player but age has caught up with him just like carra!

Do people care about local lads playing for liverpool football club? who would they want mercenaries for hire? Does local support for home grown people still exist after spearing poor showing in the cup final

Find great youth prospects and develop them...if they happen to be locals then fantastic...mercenaries for hire is very negative...players such as Garcia, Alonso, Kuyt, Lucas are examples of foreigners who have grown to love our club {Ed016's Note - Lets not forget Hyypia and Hamman}

hey ed001 or ed022
i know its all in the past, but what do you make of Christian Purslow's time at Liverpool? As i seem to recall, he was a very polarizing figure. A lot of fans seem to dislike for a lot of different reasons which aren't exactly clear to me. But he did help in selling the Club to FSG.

S.G.L. {Ed022's Note - I will actually leave this open to fellow posters. The reaction is very very mixed, and it'll be good to see all of your opinions. I personally think he wasn't great at all, but managed to redeem himself with the sale of LFC.}

I really, really hope we do our utmost to get hoillett in. He will be free, looking for a move after blackburn's relegation. His wages will be far from astronomical. The only reason I can see of us missing out on this huge talent is not trying hard enough to get him. Eds, what do you think of hoillett and our chances to get him in?
Also, great job to you and macca. {Ed022's Note - I've profiled Hoilett mate over on www.player-profiles.co.uk - I also say where he's most likely to go etc. Have a look mate.}

A few years ago I watched a ..I think u16s game Utd vBBurn...this is honest...United had a lad who everyone was bummin up and all the top clubs were sniffin after him...I watched to see what this superstar (Fabian Brandy ) was like...I honestly was blown away by the lad off blackburns team who well overshadowed Brandy...Mr Hoillet...he was hand on heart amazing...I asked a blackburn parent and they said bburn had shipped his family over from Canada..hope he signs cos he was and is class..smf

Said it before and I'll say it again, dan agger should play centre mid!! Think about it he can sit there in the middle break it down and shoot whenever possible. Just my thoughts

Promoting Agger (our best CB) to midfield would leave our defense in a shamble.

I don't argee agger is our best center back!
Lucus will be back next season!
Rickblfc...

I actually had the same idea with Coates at the back with Skrtel...because Agger is very comfortable on the ball and likes to go forward and attack

06 May 2012 19:24:55
Think its about time we all should start thinking about being positive about next season, instead of doing the obvious. After all the reserves when ive watched them have given me some of the most silky one touch pace on the ball football ive seen from a group of teenagers.Absolutely chocker about yesterday but it is what it is,we gave chelsea and in particular drogba too much respect, spearing was limp henderson is still a bit lightweight, and downing needs a bomb up his butt ,take three players of a similar caliber from the rezzies ie sterling, silva and coady and the picture begins to look a lot more like it should, that is why i firmly believe we are underachieving only because we see no need to throw our youth in at the deep, something of a wise move,ie spearing.Rudolfo should be moved up to a more prominant role at the club something that will benefit both the youth and the 1st team.Have been a liverpool fc supporter for over 40 years and the time has come for everyone to realise its never been easy, for the last 20 years weve had to bite an imaginary bullet, before that we ruled not just the english league but also the european leagues teams were terrified coming to anfield,it was like they had been told we were savages, and we all love and miss those days of glory and nights of celebration, but trust me trust in kenny,if anyone is in touch with what the kop wants its kenny, when he smiles you know hes smiling from the heart the man lives and breathes anfield air,and there isnt any other manager in the world that could replace him,so stop acting like little bitches and let the man do his job.....

Hi eds I was just wondering whether you think any club would come in and buy Stewart Downing this Summer. Out of all the signing I think he has been the worst. He is abit of a bottler doesn't take people on has had no assists and one important goal which I will give him credit for. I will always support anyone who is wearing the shirt and wont shout or abuse our players at the match but it's just my oppinon that he moves on and that we get some decent wingers in. At least all the others have showed promise (Enrique was brilliant at the start of the season/ Henderson looks good in possession just needs to be more direct/ Coates hasn't done much wrong when he's played/ Bellamy has been the best singing this season/ charlie adam has got a fair few assist and a couple of goals he got worse when Lucas got injured/ Doni played one full game against Fulham and was brilliant) I also believe that Spearing eve if he does try his best and give his all this he wont ever have the quality needed to play for us so its best he moves on Has anyone got any ideas on who we could replace him with? {Ed022's Note - He probably won't be moving mate.}

Although Downing hasn't had any assists and scored one goal, he has put in more crosses than anyone in the league. It's not all his fault that our players are not getting on the end of them. With Carroll's improving form it won't be long before Downing supplies many assists

06 May 2012 17:57:58
Don't understand how ppl can't c hendersons potential he outplayed Chelsea's midfield in de 2nd half yesterday also get off kenny's back hes only had a year and a half he's de rite man for de job but I agree we do need 3 or 4 new players

Henderson has potential he will come good but need to play in CM.

The problem is Dalglish, yeah his new signings haven't let the world alight.

But the problem is more or less with Dalglish's man management skills, his techticks & team selection.

Time to part ways! Thanks Kenny!
Adios!

Did he??

Hendo outplayed Chelski's midfield in the last hour because Chelski had no midfield! they parked the bus and were in their third of the pitch because that's all they needed to do...he has potential but seemed overawed and he has to find some aggression

06 May 2012 18:07:49
Liverpool need to sell off several players to increase funds for transfers. Jay Spearing, Maxi Rodriguez, Dirk Kuyt, Fabio Aurelio, Glen Johnson and Jonjo Shelvey all look certain to leave.

Pepe Reina, Jose Enrique, Daniel Agger, Martin Skrtel, Sebastian Coates, Martin Kelly, Lucas Leiva, Alberto Aquilani, Steven Gerrard, Craig Bellamy, Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll are players that should still be here next season.

Jack Robinson and Jon Flanagan should be going out on loan for experience.

Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam and Stuart Downing are Squad players and will be available should any injuries occur.

Raheem Sterling, Conner Coady, Fernandez Suso and Adam Morgan should all be in the 1st team Squad next season.

That makes us short of a few positions and Kenny, if he is still manager by June, should be looking for replacements for these specific positions. RB LB DM RW LW CF

If Liverpool do not sign 5-6 quality players then I'm afraid next season will not be as good as this season, they will not make top 4 especially when the top 4 would have strengthened and the top table teams would have changed a few things too. We are heading for a serious crisis IF the right players are not bought this summer and will fall even further behind the top 7 ultimately becoming a midtable team.

The owners must be aware of this and more importantly they must know it's make or break this summer and its gonna take at least 80 million plus funds received for transfers to make any difference to the current position which the club and is in. If Liverpool do not get these type of funds for transfers this summer they can surely kiss any Premiership title challenge away for the next 10 years as Man City, Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal prepare to bring in more young Champions League quality players this summer.

It's hard to realise the magnitude of the mistake made from our flop signings last year in 1 season. We have fallen behind in quality and our league position is evidence of this. Let's hope FSG and co realise that without more investment in quality players this summer, their plan to make Liverpool a much bigger club will be jeopardised immensely.

Daniel Hanwell YNWA JFT 96

Agree with ya mate!

Without much reinforcement in summer, and replacing the likes of Spearing top 4 looks as bleak as ever.

I have lost my faith in Dalglish, he must leave. He should & could have achieved much better with the current squad of players. Poor techticks, poor team selection, poor man management skills is the root cause of the mess.

Bosco

Why would Shelvey be leaving? He is only 20 years old and has shown plenty of potential.
BFTT

But he looks old though...dun he..

HEY ED, i read some quoates in which u told avb will not be our next manager. Do u think bielsa or emery or klopp would be excellent choices. Or someone else u expect, And when u expect kk to quit. I hope he quit as soon as season over. thanx {Ed002's Note - I don't know who it will end up being.}

06 May 2012 17:11:04
We need 5 quality players to be where we want to be next season.

In a perfect world i'd love Jovetic and Kagawa but neither of those are going to happen, it looks like everyone is sniffing around Luuk De Jong now too.

Surely the powers that be at LFC can see we're far too slow in dealing with signings, if we can see that then they surely can. Time and time again we're left with 2nd or 3rd choice targets, hopefully we wont have another summer of dissapointment.

Chin up after y'day everyone.

06 May 2012 17:04:05
How are we gona attract anyone of real note?

You are an idiot, we can still attract players, players still listen when the name Liverpool is mentioned

Kenny Dalglish has lead us to abyss!

Wake up ppl.. who would want to come to a mid table team with mediocre players..
Players like Downing are dumb, Spearing is useless.. wonder how Suarez feels to play with dumb heads like these.....

No one listens when the name Liverpool is mentioned. Ye can't and won't attract any big players this summer because Liverpool is in decline.
Ye say Man Utd are in decline - their 37 points ahead of Liverpool, who are in 9th
Ye say Liverpool are the best team on Merseyside - Everton are in 7th, Liverpool are in 9th
Ye talk about ye having more trophies this season than Man Utd - They won the Community Shield, thats a trophy
Ye mock Man Utd for being knocked out of the Champions League and Europa League - Liverpool wasn't in any European competition this year, and with the extra matches, Man Utd are still miles ahead of ye with one of the weakest squads they've had in years

Face it, Liverpool is the team thats in decline. How delusional can ye be?

I like the way you say trophies and not cup

Everyone seems to think kenny will be moved upstairs at the end of the season but i cant think of to many managers i would be happy with to take charge of our beloved reds, these are my opinions on some of the names being mentioned

Guardiola, Mourinho, Hiddink etc - no chance
Bielsa, Klopp, Lowe - would be good but not much chance
Avb - going to roma i believe, turned down valencia
Rafa - just NO
Rodgers, Lambert, Martinez - would be a gamble, no big club expirence but you got to start somewhere

all in all im pretty unsure but i think this could be a big summer for LFC that could shape our future for years to come, a couple of names id like to put out there would be

Rene Girard - Montpellier
Thomas Tuchel - fc Mainz
Luis Garcia - Levante

would love everyones opinions and eds, thanks

RED DOGG

Luis Garcia ??

Lol

Cp

Kenny had no experience when he was first appointed so i think you cant rule out martinez, lambert and rodgers just cos they haven't managed a big club, they all play an attractive brand of football in the way liverpool want/try to play. rodgers and lambert can spend money wisely so they definately must be contenders

Do you know which Garcia he is talking about numpty, cos its not the one that played for us

It was a joke numpty

Cp

Michael Laudraup, Unai Emery, Quique Sanchez Flores, Louis Van Gaal, Fabio Capello, Frank Rijkaard, Mauricio Pochettino, Andre Villas-Boas, Pep Guardiola.

These are the sort of managers I would expect FSG to approach should they decide Kenny Dalglish is not the man to lead us. Not saying they'd want the job (Pep and AVB), but it doesn't hurt to ask.

I think we are probably the most challenging proposition on offer in World football. Return one of football's greatest institutions to it's former glories.

Spearing should have been nowhere near the team after his nightmare against fulham, shelvey should have started, downing is just useless drop him and see what sterling can do,if carroll plays like that next season then defenders will be in for a rough ride.Henderson give him one more season, can't wait for lucas to return.

Speaing, downing and bellamy didn't turn up.

Spearing..The first one that need to be shown the door!

If we haven't' relied on him after Lucas got injured, instead bought a replacement for Lucas in January we should be have done better...

And can u ppl stop dreaming this Fella becoming new Stevie G or Lucas Leiva.
He has no potential it has been six years now... & counting..

Jay Spearing is a liability on the team...
Some one please tell this fella to leave...
he might realise he is not good enough and leave...

Not being harsh but...shown the door..
They shouldnt have let him on the coach home...
No more token academy lads...Merse was right yesterday..3 young lads in squad yday in cent mid who wouldnt get in Chelseas squad..and Hendo did really well...

I bet you were one of the ones trashing Lucas years ago, saying he had no potential...

You try learning the DM role whilst playing along side another CM learning his role (Henderson) and see how many mistakes you make.

I did..

Been a long time since my last post saying that we will sign Downing. My thoughts are that maybe Kenny will be our new D.O.F with either Radolfo or Rafa as manager. What do you think?

Vote for Rodolfo he is the only one that will successfully introduce the reserves into the first team. he knows them well and trusts them BUT would he want the burden of first team manager? I would say Rafa with Rodolfo as his assistant.

06 May 2012 16:54:09
Been hearing from a few people that Avb has offers from Roma, Valencia and Inter.
Is this true Ed's?

After reading a few posts from people with regards to him managing us, as much as i'd like Avb to take the reins at Anfield, i can't see it happening.

Also if Kenny was to step down in the summer, who would you like to replace him?
Personally i'd love Rafa back, but i wouldn't mind Rijkaard

Dan {Ed002's Note - No, that is not true.}

So who has offered Avb a job then? {Ed002's Note - As I said, Roma, and a Spanish side and he is looking to another possible opportunity. For now, if a couple of points can be ironed out, it looks like Roma is going to happen.}

Hi ED's just a bit of info: we will be buying juskilinen (bolton) or D james (free) to replaced Doni- S Danns/R huth to replaced wilson, Nzonzi and hoilett, to replaced spearing and maxi. De jong-Kuyt and Dempsey and kagawa to finalised the summer transfer dealings! What do ed's and reds think of this? And to ever was in charge of ketting merelies go! Bad management! Before dc and kk manage to spend in the summer, liverpools last 10 games of last season got kenny the job! Why o why! That midfield of lucas, maxi, merelies, shelvey, kuyt and suarez was magnificco! ???

will be someone who is relatively unknown.
with the new DOF someone with more experiance.
Here it is!!
Karl Robinson MK Dons??

You are gassed haha

What with brunny as his number 2 and incey DOF...get real....

06 May 2012 16:26:10
Why is it that Liverpool always seem to be on the back foot in the transfer Market. Surely with the euro's fastly approaching we should be looking to get at least a couple of early signings in. If LFC want to progress next season, then they need at least 5 or 6 quality players. It has shown that spending big on Sunday league players, simply is not good enough. If they carry on with the culture of buying young English players, then top 4 will be a long way off are aim. However Europe will some interestbto some players, but not players with higher standards. I do believe thou that if we can get some early signings in, other players will follow. Come on KD and Co and get us some decent players which will give us a chance next year.

Ed, what's the chances of Brendan Rogers being on LFC shortlist?
Good young manager who plays football the right way & likes pace & width in his team, something we are badly lacking.
Hope he comes, & if he does i hope he bring Joe Allen, Scott Sinclair with him.

Gav the Red {Ed002's Note - Sorry, no idea. I did not know there was a short list.}

I hope Kenny Dalglish was watching the Newcastle v City gaem today. What was clear that a quality Centre Midfield will control a game. City have the best in Toure (he cost the same as Downing), De Jong and dare I say it Barry. All were superb. Yesterday it showed Spearing out of his depth, Henderson terrified when he gets the ball and Gerrard now needs to change his game. Adam wont add any difference when fit although Lucas has been missed. Please Kenny go out and sort out the spine of the team.

He may cost the same in transfer money but is on 5 times the wages, why don't people think these days

Toure might have cost 25 million but he is on £250,000 a week meaning his contract costs £12m a year over 4 years that's £48m plus the initial 25million - Downing's contract is nothing like that - LFC just can't afford contracts like Toure so please before you post silly comments like the above think about it!

YNWA jus

Toure's wages are about twice our highest paid player. We could have bought many of City's players; we can't pay their wages.

Yehhh hes right we cant afford Toures wages cos he earns the same as Aqua and Cole put together...them 2 players who play for us...remember em..

I think for his last couple of seasons Gerrard should play as a deeper holding midfielder and only play in the big games to keep his legs. I also think that wherever possible for the next couple of years we should concentrate on playing a midfield triangle of Lucas back, Shelvey and Henderson up. Carroll and Suarez have got to be played together as much as possible. Manager for next season should remain Dalglish - there is still building to be done and players to be slowly stood down.

Many City have unlimited funds, first choice on almost all player due to wages paid, the team cost 350m+... but according to you it's simply Kenny's fault? HA!

We're going to finish the season 20 points off 4th place, and 40 points off 1st. Sad, sad times.

We 2 or 3 signings we can win the league next season

What do you want a medal Shane? What you telling me for, you think I don't know? What's your point? What is it you want me to do? How about something constructive next time mate.

I'd love Liverpool to get a League medal yes thanks. Can you sort it out? Is that what your suggesting? Cause if so that'd be great.

I offer plenty of constructive criticism on here dickhead. This was just a realisation, one that many people are ignoring. It's a HUGE gap. See, it's in capital letters, that's how big it is.

Sorry for having an opinion dude, and for writing it on a public forum. I'll try to be more like you in the future.

Not that I want him to go as I think he is an amazing player but if Suarez was sold would Dempsey be a cheaper viable replacement, allowing more funds to go to strengthen other areas of squad.

Otherwise I think we need 4 quality players and a kick up backside for ones that stay , but all the other players that would be sold (i.e Aquilani, Cole, Kuyt, Maxi, Spearing, Aureilo,) wouldn't generate much funds.

D 2308

Dempsey is in no degree as good as suarez. Suarez is an amazing player, and can only get better. Dempsey is 30, hes past his time.

I think the situation we are in now should have prevented if we did some decent business in January. We should have got a new CM and a striker in January.

For a striker if we went for Cisse, Jackson Martinez or Jelavic we could have easily got one of them. 5M or 10M is not that much.

For CM: as soon as Lucas got injured alarm bells started ringing, we know we can't get the best of Adam without a strong DM along with him. Gerrard being injury prone way off the mark. I didn't rate Spearing at all, do no why he got a new contract, people thick his scouse origin would make him a great player but he is crap. I think he is the first one that we need to show the door, yes the fella works his socks off but at the age of 23 with his physical build up he is not good enough for top level... certainly better join a championship level team which suits him, where he can have some career.

We could have tried to get someone like Lassan Diarra or Sulley Muntari on loan and sold that Spearing fella to Wolves. [heard they were keen on him in January]

For summer, I haven't still decided on Kenny, the problem is I think Kenny's tactics recently has been way off the mark and his inability to identify the best starting XI. Thus hope FSG ask Kenny to step down and give the job to someone like Laudrap or Unai Emery.
Certainly no to Martinez, Capello or Brendon Rodgers.

With the fact that players like Spearing [should sell him] Kuyt, Maxi, Aurelio, Aquaman, Cole and some others likely to leave in summer we need at least 4/5 new players. If a decent offer comes I would be happy to sell Adam, Carroll, Downing or Adam.

Wrt to our affordability we could make good business in summer if we sign Luke DeJong, Gaston Ramirez/Rasmus Elm, Markel Susaeta, another fullback & Clint Dempsey on free.

Also the idea of selling Glen Johnson & Suarez is I think a step going backwards. I Am completely against it. May be we could fill the gap Johnson leave but certainly not Suarez. We are lucky to get a player of his quality and I am afraid we might not get some of his caliber to replace him with the mess [not in UCL] we are in atm.

Bosco

Good signings especially De Jong and Suaseta, however Dempsey is not on a free (he's got 12 months left on his contract) and he'd cost around £10 million.

I think we also need a strong central midfielder, who can possibly play centre back.

I am not so sure Kenny got it wrong yesterday, people were saying that Carroll should have started and what was he thinking, but if Carroll started and played the same laboured game as the rest fans would be caining him saying why does Kenny even bother? sell him straight away.
The team were awful for 60 mins, they all new how big the game was, Kenny shouldn't need to motivate them for such a tie.
But it was what it was and now we move on. Lets hope changes are made in a positive way this summer and we have a season of joy next year.

In hindsight Carroll.should have started. He was immense when he came on.My only gripe really was playing Spearing (hindsight again). He was awful & looked completely at sea on the pitch. Its easy for people to say Kenny picked the wrong team but i would guess most would have had Bellars on the team & he was awful too. Not enough players performed on the day! Very nervous. Chelsea were far from greatbut they took their 2 chances

i would keep Kenny next season. He does have some blame BUT its Steve Clarke as the coach n Kean i think their to blame mostly too for tactics.
I would like Rodolfo as an Assistant Coach.
N if Kenny does go we should get
Unai Emery or Jurgen Klopp
Emery is a great tactition good attacking play.
Klopp got dormuntd highest ever league points.
Should have a new Bootroom
Klopp as manager/coach
Rodolfo assistant Coach gud spanish tactics
And KENNY instill liverpool way and also help with youth players

Easier said then done though.

F5.

I don't know why! but i think its kevin kean who has been the problem tbh i have no right to say that as i don't know his exact job... but i remember we were doin alright with just Kenny and Clarke and we had a solid defence, aswell as playing a nice pass and move game. Maybe its just me

So if they choose the tactics then what is the purpose of the manager role?

Hi Ed's,

Just wante d to say that I don't think a lot needs changing with the playing staff as I believe we havi invested in the future and the amount of changes in the playing staff this season I didn't expect us to win anything. But I do think we need to sign some players to make an immediate impact.
But if the rumours are true about our transfer kitty I fear we will fall further behind and another summer and January when spent a lot needs to happen again and then just spend little ever year. Just two or three marquee players would change our team into title contenders and allow players like Carroll and Henderson and even Adam grow into brilliant players but I do expect Adam to have a very good season next season

My suggestions for a new manager, which we will obviously have next season -

Rafa
Rijkaard
Van Gaal

But what is so wrong with Rafa ? we are still essentially playing his team 2 managers on from his departure. WE still play reina, johnson, lucas, kuyt, and he wanted downing in his team too ! Rafa got us closer to the title that we have been in years, got us into the CL final twice & FA Cup Final. We finished in the top 4 year almost every year he was there. He has loitered in merseyside for one reason - the chance to return !

Pepe

Rafa has a history of demeaning and undermining the owners of every club he has managed to try and strengthen his own position. We have responsible owners now who are trying to build the club again - they will not employ a loose cannon like Rafa.

And he may have finished second one season but Kenny has won it three times as a manager.

JRG

1. Square pegs, round holes
2. Interferes in everything, in politics, forgets about football
3. Control freak
4. Ask for 50mil quid every season for new signings (never happy with squad)
4. Poor signings: Riera, Aquilani, Kromkamp, Josemi, Morientes,
5. Outs: Riise, Bellamy, Alonso, Ayesteran
6. Subbed FT, look of bewilderment from Gerrard, lost the plot
Need I go on? Singred

Your forgetting Skrtel and Agger and Maxi and Shelvy.

1. doesn't count
2. its his job that's why interviews and press conferences are there.
3. as appose to a manager with no control
4. (never happy with the squad), I thought that's a sign of always wanting and needing to improve as ANY manager would tell you is a necessity in ANY league.
5. Riera wasn't bad you just don't like him because he spoke the truth. and for the rest if you look at his overall net spend or his consistent league positions you will find that he done well
6. riise was starting to get shaky in his last season and a half and also to avoid upsetting the team balance further(incident with bells). bellamy made way for Torres, pako he got pako to liverpool in the first place.
7. and when he subbed FT the team always played with more energy. plus its called player management.

Iv have had to digest yesterday's awful result, I believe Kenny is to close to the players, like a friend rather than a manager / coach. That had to of been the worSt Enrique has played and reina the least said the better. Kennys tactics were shocking. Why Carroll didn't start beggars belief, he was outstanding, if he carries on like that wow, what a player. NOw regarding the thorny issue of keep Kenny or not, im on the side of it is time to stand down with dignity. In my opinion I would get RobertoMartinez under a DOF who would be RAfa BEnitez. With Kenny in a president role. By having Martinez you have the Latin way, with the passing philosophy of Liverpool. We must buy at
leastrikers one prolific scorer, and one who is able to play im other positions, to me that is already and de long. Wide right is is a must, suseta and Phillips. Maybe Elm if he stays cheap. And a playmaker is a must, someone to pull the strings, if we don't buy one I hope suso can be that man.

"....Rafa has a history of demeaning and undermining the owners of every club..."

he also has a history of pissing off players at every club

Hopefully some fans calling for changes and saying stupid things can read the article on SkySports about us being a day away from administration.

And what is your point?
If you only just found out how deep in trouble we were 18 months ago, then you need to follow your club's affairs a bit more closely ..
As a matter of fact Purslow echoed the same sentiments of these calling for changes, he stressed the importance of champions league football and the urgent need to make moves on either a new stadium or expanding Anfield.

Roy

Just because we did not go into administration doesn't make excuses for the current situation, we need people who know what they are doing. red mick taf

I wish Kenny would step down as our manager. Not because we finished 8th in the league. Not because we win the 'Mickey Mouse' Cup beating a full strength Man City 11 that's likely to cheer up most of us Reds, just for letting us see that stupid smirk wiped off Ol' Whiskey Nose
(And Webb, if I may add). Not because he actually brought us into a position wherein we expected, albeit foolishly, to contend for a top 4 finish keeping in mind we had likes of Kyrgiakos and Paul 'Next England Captain' Konchesky as our first choice defenders.

I want him to depart simply cuz of the 'respect' (rather the lack of), that we've given the man, who took over a job no one in his right mind, from a career point-of-view, would have ever taken. But a man, who could have easily refused, and remained an almost 'mythical-legend' for young fans like myself, who have never seen him play or manage. But he thought of the fans, and gave it his all.

Tell me another manager who would've taken up this hot-potato of a job and inspite of the vile directed towards him by his own faithful, still stick by his players' side and by his own admission in a recent interview, 'happily take the dogs' abuse myself if it helps keep the young players focused on the task at hand'.

Yes we have had our worst league form at home for a long time, but anyone think why without our own 'loyal' fans getting on their backs, they played a lot more fearlessly. Anyways what so I know about management. Even though I play FIFA manager on a regular basis, unlike a lot of my 'fellow' players and 'Mourinho's-in-waiting' who have a tactical awareness and know-how of the game than a man who's scored a 100 odd goals for us and taken us to Premier League titles and FA Cups and 'Mickey Mouse' Cups. What would he know.

Full of respect for Kenny. Call me blind, but then I don't need eyes to support my Reds, my heart is enough.

This post is whats wrong with Liverpool right now, fair enough KK is obviously a legend but to say that it was a massive thing to take the job is nonsense, anyone who knows anything about the club knows he was waiting for Hodgson to get the sack as he knew the job was his and he was very happy to take it. He did a good job when he took over but when he had the chance to put his own squad together he showed how out of touch he is with the modern Premier League, he bought poorly....very poorly and unfortunately but for reasons that are not apparent to me nobody sat him down and made him watch these less then average extortionately overpriced players who the dogs in the street knew were rubbish. I though the AVB sacking was harsh but the results speak for themselves Chelsea have found something with DiMatteo that wasnt there with AVB and it works. As much as i would like it to work out for Kenny it hasnt and i cant see it happening. We finally got new owners who were willing to shell out on players and we need someone at the helm who will know how to invest the money correctly. 40mil could get some class players in there...instead we got Downing and Hendo....somethings not right and its time to move on. Hodgson was a bad choice from the start (ill assume nobody rated him as a manager that could succeed at Liverpool with his hoof tactics) KK wouldnt have been my preference either. Lets bring in somebody to do a good job and not live on past glories and keep people in a job for nostalgic reasons. Liverpool deserve better then what has been going on for the last few years, Kenny knows that and im sure he will step down. Dont forget Rafa got sacked for not getting champions league football once and he barely spent a penny without selling first.

To the respondant- you're a short-sighted idiot!

1- Who got villified for rotation? Rafa! Who does it now? Everyone!
2- Who first introduced 4-2-3-1 formation to English football? Raf! Who does it now- any team worth talking aout!
3- Who has had dog's abuse since signing? Andy Carroll! Who are people now saying is the future? Andy Carroll!
4- Whilst he hasn't shown the same improvement yet, I'm confident that Henderson will also prove his worth.
5- Rather than ditch the foundations laid by Dalglish, much better to carry on on the already charted course. All you armchair fans really know more about football in general and Liverpool FC on a day-to-day basis?
6- I strongly suspect that Rafa was removed as his strong personality and insistence that the club was run right were no seen as sale-able qualities- hence the nice ultimate yes-man arrived.
7- Fully agree with the OP- did any of you mindless myopics see the piece on Dalglish in the ITV Cup Final build-up? Hang your heads in shame and show some respect!

Mrpjd

The foundations?? Hendo....Downing....Adam....Carroll.....If my house was built on foundations like that i would sleep on the street. As for the rotation stuff about Rafa...so what never mentioned anything about that...never wanted Rafa to leave. If your happy to sit mid-table and support a buy british policy your fairly braindead. The problem is the players Dalglish will bring in if he is giving the money but sure lets just be diplomatic and say nothing! You dont spend 20mil on the basis that you hope someday there is a chance maybe the player will prove he is worth it. Honestly dont understand some of you people that are happy with this season {Ed022's Note - This post made me laugh, I won't lie.}

Just one last thing to say about yesterday. Just seen the back page of not sure what news paper in the shop and the ball is clearly over the line. We didn't get the decision no point pissing and moaning. We lost and that's that and also I think for the long term rebuilding job at lfc I think avb is the perfect man. His philosophy's are what the owners want for the club and I think given time and support he could be a successful manager for the next 15-20 years. When kenny steps aside we need a young manager that can stay for a long time And I think he's one of the best. The problem was Chelsea not him. He has the balls to keep the s**te out of the team whatever there names are

Alot of disrespectful comments ref KD.
If he goes or not is immaterial.
I for one (especially in the second half of this season) have seen signs that the so called poor signings are progressing.
Results apart there hasnt been many games this season we deserved to lose and unfortunately lady luck hasnt been in the kop this season.
Those of you who think the squad needs stripping and rebuilding know nothing about LFC or football for that matter.
Things I have taken form this season
1. spearing unfortunately is not good enough
2. the signings need another season (first season syndrome- carroll is going to be world class)
2. maxi/kuyt/aurelio/doni/cole/aquillani/spearing need to go free some space on the wage bill and the squad AS IT STANDS THE SQUAD IS NOT STRONG ENOUGH
3. carragher to retire. kelly to be used more as a centre half
4. to be signed GK/LB/DCM/ACM/ARW/ST
5. Intergrate youngsters into first team europa cup
(sterling/suso/morgan)

I am adament whoever is in charge next season we will get top 4 next season and HAVE A LOT STRONGER SQUAD

Seen the Post about maybe getting Tim Krul from Newcastle? Liverpool are not big enough to tempt Krul away, Carroll and Enrique fair comment but Now Newcastle are on the up and with KD in charge we will stagnate. Yesterday we started the cup final looking for a draw!! I have friends in Newcastle who also told me he was the first manager ever to go to Wembley for a draw when Newcastle went in 1998 and he was manager. No i feel we must say goodbye to KD or we will be with Sunderland,Villa,Norwich,Fulham etc and drift along in mid table while the top 6 move way ahead. Thoughts please? YNWA

Seems to be alot of calls for Gerrard to be replaced. I think its fair to say he isn't the player he once was, but he is far from finished. Gerrard, Suarez and Agger are the only players we have in our squad (if Sterling was a regular i'd say him also) that always want the ball and look to go forward with it. Everybody else just wants to go backwards and sidewards. If you take Gerrard out of our side the ball would never get to Suarez, it would just go sideways around the midfield and then back to the defence. The main problem with replacing Gerrard is the cost. We need a Modric/Silva/Nasri/Alonso type ball player and we are unable to compete for those type players at the moment.

i have a question for the eds, which players would you like liverpool too sign this summer? (realistic)

and the same for the manager if kenny was to go who would you like to be in charge? {Ed023's Note - I wouldn't Bielsa to take over. I'd like Luuk De Jong, M'villa, Muniain. The list could change next week lol.}

06 May 2012 14:36:54
I've stuck by the lad and praised him a lot in recent times but over the last few performances I think it's clear Spearing doesn't have a future at Liverpool.

Don't get me wrong, he is premier league standard, but not Liverpool standard. If we want to move forward we need some strong and able centre midfielders, and for that to happen, someone has to go, and for me it's Spearing.

If the rumours for Elm are true, then I think it's a good move. I'd also like to see moves for one or a couple from Siggurdsson, Milner, Ramirez and M'Villa.

Also holding out for a return of Alonso (We can pray)

We also need more speed. Both up front and on the wings. Bellhanda looks a tricky player as does Suaseta. I see Moses as a risk that could go either way. Jarvis would also be good cover as he can operate on either wing. Would love to see Sterling involved in the first team more, as well as Suso.

Clint Dempsey would be fantastic because of his versatility. Rumours for a swap deal plus cash with Kuyt would make a whole lot of sense.

Soldado, De Jong or Rhodes as a striker.

Feel free to leave your thoughts.

Instead of all this ''was it? wasnt it? Well maybe everyone should be asking '' With a full goal to aim at, a free header and only 5 yards out, HOW can a 35m footballer MISS!!!!!!!!!

He didn't miss, he hit the target and the goalkeeper saved it...........

And what's his price tag got to do with anything? Does that mean if Bellamy had missed an open goal then it's OK as he was a free transfer?

Try doing his 1st goal and then come back and tell us the results

How the f...can you criticise Carroll for yesterday's effort?!

He didn't miss it. Take a close look at the video >

If the camera had been a few inches to the right and completely level to the goal line, you could clearly see the ball had gone in. Of course, the refs decide..... ra1969

HEY LFC FANS

i just dont think we are a good team..therefore this is what happens when you have a poor squad...you finish 7th or 8th..you dont win anything...except barely winning the carling..which went to penalties..

so just look at anfield these days...its loud before the game..then thats it..no atmosphere

the players bought are not good enough through the course of a season

so...what did we expect!

2 things can happen to this club...

1....we fade in the background..and watch all the other teams..continue to pass us..in every way..stadium..quality players, money cups,

2....lfc will invest heavily in order to stop this club from just being known as a quality club....."BACK IN THE DAY"

this summer window...will be one of..if not...THE most important....becuase i believe the future of this club..hangs in the balance

Unai Emery is first choice to be next LFC Manager, Martinez is next on the list. Honestly believe we may end up with Martinez as Emery has held talks in Russia with 2 clubs.
Gutted about yesterday Eds but look forward to next season and the arrival of Luuk De Jong for definite . YOZLFC

Unai Emery is on the verge of signing contract with Spartak Moscow.

A Shortlist of potential candidates for the liverpool job if Kenny leaves.(rate them if you want)
Rudi Garcia,Didier Deschamps,Unai Emery,Paul Lambert,Jurgan Klopp,Ralf Rangnick,Slaven Bilic,Rafa Benitez,Roberto Martinez,Brendan Rogers,Andre Villas Boas,Laurent Blanc,Giafranco Zola,Malky Mackay,Dougie Freedman,Marcus Babbel,Lee Clarke,Owen Coyle,Thomas Tuchel.
Not saying we need a change of manager, but this is what is realistically available. Mourinho or guardiola will never manager liverpool.
Cheers,
Smithy.

You mean when kenny leaves not if

Jeez that's one long short list !!

Guardiola very possibly will manage Liverpool in future. He speaks well of the club. Just not this coming season.

Guardiola very possibly will manage Liverpool in future. He speaks well of the club. Just not this coming season.

Laurent blanc would be my first choice look at what he's done with bordeux and france win percentage of 60% if he doesn't get it then paul lambert would also be a good choice. both managers have worked miracles with average players. Also Guardiola has been tipped for the inter job in the future and is also said to be an admirer of manu. so who knows :)

With a couple of thousand managers in the world i think 20 or so names can be considered a shortlist.

I've sadly posted something similar, which is indicative to a certain element of people who claim to support the club, that i suspect sing our song, yet don't know or feel the words.

I'm gonna start labelling those 'fans' as ''Instant Fans'', i think it pretty well sums them up. They tend to remind me of the spoilt girl from Charlie and the Chocolate factory, ''I want it NOW!''

hi eds, after the cup final I believe that the owners have finally realised that instaed of buying young but unproven talent is the wrong thing to do. They have now realised that only money can allow us to achieve the aims that they hope us too (to be the best club in England). They know that in order to achieve this they cannot gamble on young talent so they need to buy some reasonably young world proven players. What do you think of these possible ins and out in the summer:

INS:
Diego Godin- Athletico Madrid- 12.5M
Yann M'Vila- Stade Rennes- 18.5M
Iker Munain- Athletic Bilbao- 17.5M
Junior Hoilett- Blackburn- free (out of contract)
Jesus Navas- Sevilla- 21.5M
Ricky Van Wolfswinkel- Sporting- 14.5M
Edinson Cavani- Napoli- 38M (Will be persuaded by fellow countrymen Suarez and Coates)
or
Soldado- Valencia- 22.5M

Outs:
Fabio Aurelio- 1M
Maxi- 5M
Dirk Kuyt- 5M
Craig Bellamy- 2.5M
Brad Jones- 1M
Stewart Downing- 12M
Doni- 1M
Charlie Adam- 5M
Andy Carroll- 12.5M

{Ed019's Note - O_O}

Of course, this plan is so simple it's genius. Now don't forget to press save before you quit the game and go to bed.

Merf

If all those 'ins' happen in the summer, i'll run naked around the world.

Mate you forgot to sell our whole first team

Hey Eds/Macca, any truth into stories of Steve Clarke being told he can leave in the summer, with Kenny moving upstairs and Rafa taking charge with Sami Hyypia as assistant? TheRedOne {Ed019's Note - I really don't know but there is a good chance if Kenny leaves}

Unlucky lfc. Everyone knows we were cheated. Anyway I was watching the blackpool play off game last night and ince and phillips were brilliant. Any lfc interest in them?

Brilliant!!!!
Eds any interest in Tom Ince

It beggars Belief

Lyndon {Ed023's Note - I don't know if there's sarcasm there or not but I don' think Ince will be a option right now}

Most prob don't know him because we dont give talented youngsters a chance at LFC. And dont start with bad attitude, demanding higher wages etc etc. Load of nonsense. They are young and you have to manage their ego's. Utd do it.

What a great crowd Newcastle have got makes me realise how far Anfield standards have slipped. It's not just the team that needs to buck up their ideas next season.

Probably because they finally have something to shout about!

Hey Eds, have used the search function and have not found anything so could you tell me whether or not we have been looking at Isla, and if so, are we still after his nasty injury. Tnx {Ed019's Note - Isla was looked at in January - perhaps the club will go back for him.}

Just a simple yes/no please! Any chance at all that Torres will return? {Ed019's Note - no}

06 May 2012 13:59:31
Het Eds, no point speculating about who will come in and who won't (I very much doubt that anyone who posts here is ITK, besides you guys and Macca of course), just wondering who you think will leave and who will we be sending out on loan. I know we rejected loan offers for Sterling this season, a few I think we were really stupid in rejecting. Thanks.

06 May 2012 13:52:38
I would like to congratulate Chelsea on a great 'team' performance.
Let's not forget that they knocked the mighty Barca out of the CL, with a display of pure resolve and determination, and playing with 10men.
A lot can be learnt by noting what Di Matteo has done (with the same squad), and I think he has shown that when the players are motivated, driven and respond well, a lot can be achieved.
We were just beaten by a better team on the day.
Shankly's Red Army.

He has a point. Downing, Carroll, Henderson, Adam don't become bad overnight. Why is Mourinho so successful? He motivates and makes the players want to play for him. Kenny take note...

06 May 2012 13:39:52
Have we finally got a striker on our hands with Carroll ed ?
I have to say he looked pretty unplayable nearly yesterday. And surely the more he plays, the more the rougher edges will get knocked off.
I don't know if I am the biggest optimist out there. But, get Lucas back, a pacey good winger and I think we've got a side on our hands, I really do.
I don't think we have to break the bank in Summer. It's more a matter of adding quality and depth to the squad. And I emphasise the word squad.
Then we can ease one or two of the top kids in as well over the next couple of seasons.
I'm bouncing mate, I really am. And I would keep Kenny for the next year to see it come together.
Can't wait, me !
The Real KB

Carroll done well yesterday, the last few games he have improved his game , but I am just wondering if its all down to the Euros and come next season he will slip again...
I hope not, because I think he showed in the last few weeks, he can be a threat , a handful for defenders, they can't deal with him.
Roy

06 May 2012 13:38:49
Eds, you say you would love AVB to be next LFC manager.
So, assumed he would be manager, do you think he could persuade some of the porto players he coached to come to LFC?
Such as Mouthino, Otamendi or Rodriguez? {Ed019's Note - It is possible, but I doubt it}

AVB proved that he is "NOT" ready for the PL. Look at the difference in the style of play, the effort and the results for Chelsea since he left.. I do think he is the kind of manager who would do very well in the slower leagues of Italy,Spain and Portugal, but the PL is a different game altogether.

Roy

He would bring nothing of any benefit to anyone except himself.

You want Otamendi? One of the worst centre halves I have ever seen!

When the F is kenny going to be sacked. He should be sacked before the next game he does not deserve another weeks pay or any compensation

But if they sack him, they'll have to pay compensation

Carb

I think you've got some serious looking in the mirror to do, Kenny has been around for far more than the last 18 months and you'd do well to remember that.

If ''IF'' he were to ''get sacked'', then it would be done with utmost respect and thanks for his services, he'll at least finish out the season.

It might not have worked for him in the league this season, but it's just as much the players fault as it is his, many of the players have let him down and Agger went some way to saying that yesterday.

I'd be happy for Kenny to stay on and iron out the kinks, get a few new legs to replace the old legs and push on and upwards, as i think he's capable to do so.

But then i read the garbage fickle fans post, and think nah, we don't deserve a manager who will get us to two finals at Wembley, winning one cup and reaching the Euorpa cup next season.

All this, with a massively under performing squad with key injuries, crazy bans and 30 odd times cracking the bleeding post.

Whoever thought we would get into the Champions League this season was kidding themselves, expecting instant success.

Two great cup runs, Europa next year and much room for improvement in the League, with a squad that has had more than a year together, key players back and maybe one or two in before the next campaign starts, then i think it would be a much different scenario.

Kenny Dalglish came back to help this wonderful club and Im afraid no named supporters who post on this site spewing vile about our gracious manager are clearly not what I would regard as 'supporters'.

He is building a team, get behind him and remember our motto YOUL NEVER WALK ALONE'.

Kenny is in a dark place and needs us now , its time for us to deliver

Well done to Chelsea... dominated the first hour and the better team on the day. Bitterly disappointing for our lads. Could have rolled over at 0-2 but in true REDS SPIRIT lifted and got one back and arguably another (not going there).

Proud of the big AC...... a full off season of hard work and training he should flourish next campaign.

Pepe i think its time. Rule 1 of GK is never be beaten at the near post. Had 6 or 7 great years here but seems flat and may want a fresh challenge back home or to a team overseas where he could win a championship. Surely there would be a GK of some class who would love to put on a red shirt and help take us back up towards the top of the table.

Spearing was ordinary to say the least.

Downing when he went and ran at Bosingwa and attacked looked dangerous. Obv a little confidence issue. I'll give him another season before judging.

I thout Hendo and Stevie wer massive in the last twenty minutes. Ran their tails off and were dominating in midfield. Hendo needs to play CM. I'd play Steve more AM/CF next year. At only 21 Hendo will be a great mid by his mid 20's. SG didnt really hit his straps until 24/25. Remember all the Lucas haters?

Sell who are surplus to requirements.

Make some smart signings
(1 ST/CF, 1 RW, 1 GK at least)
and if KD goes Laudrup please.

The only keeper I would take is Igor Akinfeev for CSKA, but it's really since Javi Vallero left that Reina's form has dipped... I would love to see a midfield of Hendo and Lucas in the future. I think we need a box to box scoring mid tho to replace Gerrard's role as Stevie will soon have to adapt his game and sit deeper
One tricky winger. one goal poacher and a creative mid and we're well on our way ... Ps. I think Coady will make the step up very soon

Kenny should be judged on results and players signed. How many managers would keep their job after the last 6 months of results NONE. He is making excuses again and he is turning in to a joke should never have a job in football again. Stevie you are a great player but i think you should stop talking wet and admit all of the new signings all of the old guard have been a big pile of s**t. Here is how i see the summer going

Kenny will be sacked hopefully asap
S clarke will be sacked
Pepe will be sold
Suarez will be sold
Carroll will be sold
Johnson will be sold

then we can start again with a better manager it won't take much to be better then kenny though.

What an idiot!! Let's keep all the crap and get rid of the good?

Woah woah wait there. spearing is the reason why we lost. he should be the first person out of the door. carroll, suarez, johnson and reina must stay. sell doni, aurelio, downing, adam, henderson, maxi and kuyt. . we need a manager who is world class and can help us get back to champions league football. also is there any news on the new kit eds?. when will we see it?. thank u.

What good have you seen the league table all the players are s**t

Ok after the disapointment of yesterday im looking forward to the future,.
I had a feeling the way big andy was treated by the newcastle fans at the game there this season that it may just benifit us.
It must hurt like hell to be boed by the fans who you believe to be one of yoursellf, he was a local lad who even when he joined us kept saying im a newcastle fan,but after that game he seemed to change, he seemed to see the support he was getting from the liverpool fans, he seemed to see he was wanted and i believe THATS when he started to improve and i think next season it may be like releasing the krakon and i for one am all about sticking by the lad.

p.s If only he,d get his hair cut,

martin p ( its burning time douglas )

Totally agree, especially about the hair cut.
I just wanted to go at those greasy locks with some scissors, but now i'm beginning to suspect this new 'ibrahimovic' bob style is the source of his recent improvement and so am reluctant to intervene...

I know he had a bad time at Chelsea but I do think AVB is exactly what we need if Kenny steps down! Fresh start, give him time, he could be with us for a long time and do for us, what Fergie has done for Man U.
MIKEYRED

If so many lfc fans want kenny out already, there's no way they'd give AVB the time to establish himself.
Just stick with someone for a while without calling for his head, and see the benefits of having a manager who is comfortable in his position and players who know where they stand!
This craze of axing managers when part of a season's not going as well as you want is mental!

give kenny next season as well x

Are you stupid another season so we can get relegated

ed 22 ive read all the post but in your opinion if daldlish leaves who do yo think would get the job? just in your opinion tanx

majestic69 {Ed022's Note - In my opinion? I honestly don't know. As I've said I'd love AVB to get it.}

This is out of the loony bin, and i know this will never happen in this reality and maybe that's a good thing. BUT, if we are looking for a tried and tested Premier League manager who's done really well with consistently high finishes and staying pretty competitive with teams that have bigger resources, who has also done very well working with youth and bringing them through, and likes an attacking approach, then who's done better than Martin Jol? (ducks the abuse and empty bottles, for daring to elect an ex-Toffee).

I just think he got shafted at Tottenham, it was engineered by Comolli, in my opinion. Jol was forced out against many of the fans and the majority of the players wishes, after back to back top 5 finishes.

No manager we are or will be looking at can quote that, other than Rafa, Ferguson, Wenger, Mancini, Harry, Moyes and Chelsea's various managers. and anyone who i might of missed out :).

We could do a damn sight worse, although he doesn't have the media gravitas, or classy suits, or any hair. He does have a footballing philosophy of attacking pacey players, which we'll see Fulham turn out in the next two years, if he stays put.

Brendan Rodger and Paul Lambert have done really well this season, both level on points in the league, but Jol has got Fulham up to 9th level on points with us.

Just some very strange tasting food for thought.

Ollieston

Ed22 - don't mean to be respectful but why AVB? Singred {Ed022's Note - AVB is a very tactically sound manager and has the balls to stand up to any player in order to get a club playing beautiful, attacking football. I could go on for hours.}

AVB is young, unproven, and unlikely to succeed.

Red Owl {Ed002's Note - And not heading to Liverpool.}

Is it not possible that there is no movement on the DOF front as that's where Kenny could end up

06 May 2012 13:07:52
We need a little more summer ins than people on here seem to think. We need a back up/competition for Jose Enrique as Robinson will be out on loan.

I along with many others have been saying for a while we need a defensive/combative midfielder to come in for Jay. Gerrard should be used a little more sparingly, so in a dream world someone like J Martinez (or someone more realistic) would come in. He can play alongside Lucas or at centre back and he'd really strengthen the spine of our team.

Susaeta would be a great buy for the right wing and he'd be cheap too. Muniain may be another more expensive option as he can play in a variety of roles.

We also need a playmaker and striker, so that's a lot of money for us to compete. We're not particularly strengthening the squad however as we're probably replacing certain outgoing players.

Luuk De Jong for Kuyt.
Susaeta for Maxi.
J Martinez for Jay.
Gaston Ramirez for Adam.

Outlay is fairly steep at around 70 million, with outgoings around 15 mil, but we need it.

Youth will also play a part, with Coates and Kelly hopefully growing into important squad players, along with potentially Sterling and Suso. Toni Silva may enter the squad as back up on the right, with Shelvey and Henderson maturing. Not sure if that'll be enough to compete for top 3, but if we click we should hit push top four and Europa.

We'll still be in transition for a while, with the summer following seeing Bellamy, Carra and possibly Reina depart. But hopefully by that stage Sterling and Kelly will have progressed to fully fill their roles.

I know this is a little fantasy football, but we all need to dream a little after such a miserable result yesterday.

What I'd love to see next season, regardless of who the manager is, is for us to pick 11 players and say that is the first team and play them, week in, week out, not withstanding injuries and suspensions obviously. I think the main problem this season has been we brought in a load of players and played different teams and different systems every week. The new players (especially Henderson and Carroll) haven't had a run of games playing with the same team-mates in the same system, so haven't bedded in as quickly as they could have and consequently, their confidence has suffered a bit. Also we really need a proper right winger who can whip in a cross and proper cover for Lucas, because Spearing is just not up to the job

Yesterday was the perfect example for me of how much we have missed Lucas. In the two games we won against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge he was MOTM and completely bossed the midfield. Spearing has been a willing and honest stand-in but ultimately he lacks the quality to play the quantity of games we have needed him to play this season. Both the goals we conceded were a result of his initial errors although Enrique and Reina didn't cover themselves in glory for the first goal.

It was really good to see Carroll looking so hungry and motivated when he came off the bench. His displays for the last couple of months have been really encouraging and he is starting to look like a player who could get 20+ goals a season. It is refreshing to visit this site and see people complaining that he didn't start the match! He took his goal really well and was unlucky not to get brace and drag us back into the game.

Will lucas get over his bad injury one would hope so he may not get back to his previos level

Numerous rumours flying round that after the Swansea game Kenny will step down, stating that it is 100% his decision and that the owners always gave him their full backing, assurring a dignified exit. AVB will be installed on a three-year deal with the assurance he can do practically whatever he wants with the squad and funds to improve it. Director of football will be the ex-Bara bloke.
What do you make of all this Ed? Many thanks. {Ed022's Note - Nothing to say. My preference is AVB as you all know, Txiki is probable for the DoF position, so perhaps possible, but unlikely.}

If AVB was to arrive he would be sacked within six months.

Eds, can you Kenny leaving? Personally I don't think we had made progress under him.

possibly move for Joachim Low, AVB or Brendan Rogers

what do you think? {Ed019's Note - Please read the other posts}

Two cup finals not progress?

Two cup finals one mickey mouse cup not good enough this is liverpool not a small club like everton

Im too young to remember Kenny Daglish from back in the day, although i understand the significance of the man and his passion towards LFC, the main thing i know about him is what he has recently done with LFC. In my own personal opinion, he came in and achieved what was asked of him, to get LFC steady and on the right track, we may not have achieved a great League finish, but 2 cup finals is not a bad achievement for a first season. Im torn on wheter to keep him for another season or wheter the let him move back upstairs in a different role. But i believe Kenny himself and the board/owners will all make the right decision.

Would we consider signing shay given if Aston villa were relegated in the summer. Reinas heart doesn't seem to be set at an field anymore and I think everybody must see that. Example Peter odemwinge & Ramires goal should have never been in and if he was still top class he wouldn't of let them in near post. Shay given one of the best goalkeepers I've ever seen in the premier league would be a good choice to take over him or maybe krul or vorm any ideas :)

Jordan

I think Vorm would be the best option.

Tom.

Not a bad shout to put pressure on Pepe, Jordan, and Shay Given already lives in Alderley Edge, not too far away.
I think Pepe will be off unless when Achterberg is replaced he's happy with his new coach. His heart has not been in it this year and I think it's frustration that we're not able to match the ambition of playing champions league football and a title challenge.
Sad but I guess he's seen Torres go and now make the CL final so he will be losing patience. He is now where Gerrard, Alonso, Mascherano have all been in recent years, should I wait a bit longer or head off to a CL / challenging for titles club?
I think he'll leave personally.

Is this the worst Liverpool squad in decades? It most certainly is. All managers make errors when purchasing players. Sir Alex Ferguson made a few over his tenure, but he never made four massive errors in one year, that has to be a record. Downing, Adam, Henderson and Carroll have got to be the worse £80m spent in history. Then there is the decline of Reina, Carra and Gerrard. The novelty has worn off with Enrique and Suarez the only worldclass player will be sold in the summer. 8th in the league and just a Carling cup to talk about. A cup for youth players and Championship teams. The way the club is going, playing Championship teams could be a weekly thing next season.

I'll give it three weeks before you die of depression...
NextGenRed

As we cannot be relegated this season you are clearly mad with that last statement.
No one is happy mr or mrs anonymous but whining isn't going to help. I'm sure when Kenny's read your post he'll make all the changes you suggest.......oh sorry you just ranted and didn't offer any solutions did you?
never mind, cheer up.

Over the summer i would sell/release
2. Johnson
6. Aurelio
7. Suarez
11. Maxi
18. Kuyt
20. Spearing
25. Reina Unless Gk coach can bring him back
- Aquilani
- J Cole
agree/disagree? thoughts
The Joshster

I wouldnt sell suarez and only let reina go if we could get a great replacement the rest will prob all go anyway

I wouldn't sell suarez but i guess this has been highly debated but if we do sell him i want munian and if reina is sold, doni can be our no1, he showed he is good enough against fulham and he probably would have saved that 1st goal yesterday.

Selling our best player would be absolutely what Ferguson would love Liverpool to do.

personally i have never been a fan of the 4 5 1 system unless you have two really good flying wingers which we certainly dont, why Kenny plays it with the players he has baffles me Downing is never gonna be a flying winger on the left, nor Dirk or Maxi or Bellamy on the right especially if your centre mids are being over run like yesterday, i feel sorry for Spearing because its hard to have a go at one of your players but again he has been identified as a weak link and really struggles at that level.
i would like to see Liverpool play 4 4 2 let Big Andy and Suarez create a partnership, i would move Gerrard to the right as he is the only crosser of a ball we have, hopefully get two really hardworking centre mids Lucas and Henderson who is getting rather unjust stick i think, but a new left winger is a must! plus a new left back if Enrique does not regain his form, we should be going and attacking teams rather than showing them too much respect and waiting for things to happen like yesterday, as a 4 4 2 we actually looked a threat and a decent side and created more chances in ten minutes than we did in the first hour, and lesser teams would crumble, we would win far more games than we lost, Man U always play 4 4 2 and always use width and attack, thats why Man U can make any old s**t striker look like a world beater, because they create so many chances even Heskey would slot one or two a game, Andy Cole/ Hernandez absolutely s**te centre forwards but will score at least one or two out of 12 chances created.
i believe that is the way leagues are won, with attacking pressing play and using width and with Carroll and Suarez up top you would have a very decent side. we should not be worrying about opponents but playing to our strengths and destroying all those who come before us!

kenny got wrony yesterday.he should drop spearing nd played gerrard with henderson.downing been our worst singing.he had a poor game wit a few others like spearing henderson our left back and reina who shouldnt be beaten at he near post like that.well done carroll he came on and gave us a bit of hope.kenny needs another season for me.but we need 2 sign players forword, winger nd a d midfielder

We have played 3 times at wembley this season in every game we conceded first goal its a habit we have to get rid of.

Did you watch the game yesterday downing has been terrible all season but yesterday for that last half hour we could see what he can do when playing well, he like the rest of the team have sufferred from a lack of confidence, alot of the time he has put very good balls into the box but the problem has been that we dont get enough players arriving in the box so the odds on us getting on the end of one of these balls are alot less.

Christ Ed022 how are you still going you must have done 2000 posts by now and been good enough to comment on a lot of them, what a legend.

always a red {Ed022's Note - I am genuinely shattered mate haha. I am doing 3 other sites as well as this so yeah. Utterly bossing it.}

You must be hammering the red bull or something mate lol. I'm sure had the lads put a bit more effort in yesterday and won the cup your job would have been a lot easier.

always a red {Ed022's Note - Haha yeah slightly. Reading all the negativity and anger etc can be a little demoralizing, but it comes with the job. I am unfortunately allergic to caffeine believe it or not, so no red bull for me.}

Yes iv'e noticed the keyboard warriors can get a bit angry sometimes, and reading all the negativity is bad enough but editing it all must be a hell of a job. Bad crack about the caffeine you must have match stick holding your eyes open lol.
Anyway i'm off out to watch City v the Toon, enjoy the rest of your weekend and lets hope the other eds relieve you of your duties soon before you crack up.
If you find yourself typing 'All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy' it really is time for a rest haha.

Its no coincidence that Liverpool have gone backwards since Pako left, we played great football when he was at pool. Dalglish will probably stay as to pay off every one and pay for a new manager, plus his staff, and start all over again would cost 100 mill with transfer war chest. We need stability for another season, play some of the kids as Arsenal, Man u ect do, Dalglish will need to be strong and sell Downing, the rest will come good.
If still no better by xmas 2012, get rid ,

hi eds and all who come on this site. well have to admit rather disappointed about yesterday, but i felt that after seeing the team sheet we wouldnt win. in kennys first full season in charge there have been too many mistakes made, whether its team selection, substitutions made, substitutes picked, lack off ideas, players bought, and players not bought ie january. one thing that i have noticed is lfc used to play to there strentghs not worrying about the opposition, we made the opposition fear playing us. this is something kk has not done all season. we at times have had too much respect for other teams, and played too defensive, only trying when it is sometimes too late, ie yesterday. i admire kk for coming back and taking over the reigns but the game has moved on since he last managed a team, and i think that somebody who can make lfc feared again is needed. however i only pay to watch, i dont own the club john henry does. so whatever his decision at the end of the season is lets hope its the correct one.

if we redevelop or move we have to increase the size of the pitch . its not a coincident that the two teams at top of prem have the biggest pitches in league and two best home records as most teams defend away . if the areas are bigger its hader to defend . its IMPERATIVE we have biggest playing pitch possible .

Although i do agree with you, another purpose for a wide pitch is to give space to out and out wingers to use their pace down the wing, im not quite sure we have any of them? unless it would suit Downing a little better.

Yesterday was a disappointment due mainly to the "if only" factor.
If only Carroll had started the game....
If only Maxi had played instead of Spearing......
If only Enrique and Downing played without looking scared and nervous....
If only we had genuine pace in the team..........

This summer is massive for Liverpool. We need:

1. Extra coaching staff - Apart from Clarke and Keen, Kenny has been using Roy's, Rafa's leftover staff. I think Academy is in good hands but we need a new Goalkeeping coach as Achterberg stepped up from reserve coach and Pepe has been relatively poor this season. We need specialist attack/defence coaching.
2. A few players like Maxi, Kuyt, Aurelio, Jones, Aquilani, Cole, Pacheco, Wilson and maybe Doni, Eccleston and Ngoo will be leaving. (Hell that's a few), so they need to be replaced with quality but we need PACE. Carragher also needs replacing as he will be a squad player next season.
3. As we need alot of players to bulk the squad up hopefully Sterling, Wisdom and Coady will get a chance.
4. KD is the man for the job as long as he can sign the players he would like and get's more support staff around him to share the burden.
5. We don't need a DOF unless it's for the bigger picture - Academy through to first team transition.

Next season Man City will have bought players, Chelsea will buy a few, Man Poo will buy a few, Tottenham may have strenghtened (they will lose Adebayor, could lose Bale and Modric) but could also be weaker, Arsenal - well who knows, i would imagine they will strenghten and Newcastle could build on what they have as long as they hold on to Ba, Cisse and Cabaye.
So this summer really does need quality signings arriving at Anfield. Don't have to be expensive names just quality players who will thrive under the pressure of playing for Liverpool. As, unfortunately, a few yesterday looked scared witless. Therefore if a DOF does arrive he needs to hit the ground running and not leave it late to bulk up the squad.

Finally, i hope the owners give KD the time to rebuild. It's the least he deserves for everything he has done for the club.

Isn't hindsight wonderful.
After how Gerard and Suarez looked together against Norwich, who would not have started with same again ? Yes Big Andy was superb when he came on and I'm delighted for him, long may it continue but vast majority would not have started him. We were exposed in middle of park, the two lads had stevie dropping deep to help them out and we lost any punch going forward. If only it was Lucas plus any one of Adam (don't care what you say, he had a good 10-12 games alongside Lucas), Hendo, Spearo and I'm sure Stevie would have played 20 yds further up the pitch. Would have been different game. Fine lines between success and failure, bit like the season.
I still firmly believe we are Andy back to form, Lucas back fit and 2-3 signings away from at least top 4.
My verdict : Kenny gets another season, crazy to not back him now no matter how many knee jerk, hurting and disappointed supporters think otherwise.

Things I'd like to see in last 2 games.

- Some game time for Sterling, Coady, Shelvey and Suso

- Spearing to be given a early holiday

- Carroll to start both games

- Henderson to play in central midfield

To finish off my post

- For KK not to be afraid of dropping the established players. Enrique and Reina are terribly out of form, Robinson/Aurelio and Doni/Jones should come in

RedSG

What does Hendo bring to the team? Really seems like a nice young lad, but its like playing with a man down. Some players just can't make the step up. I would rather Coady and Shelvey get a go together in CM. {Ed022's Note - Henderson isn't playing in his position, that's the problem.}

Reina dropped making howlers every game. is he on a betting syndicate seems like

I agree that Kenny should leave in the summer but give the man some respect for what he's done for the club on and off the pitch
- McMenemy

Martinez or AVB for me. Time for a fresh start and new ideas.

We have got to give kenny another season!
with some fine tuning in the summer we will be alot closer to a return to the champions league.
the loss of the injured lucas was devastating to our league form this season, and yes the matter should have been addressed in jan, but the club was not going to be held to ransom and pay OTT money,so put there faith in who we had at the club.
i am sure kenny knows what is needed and will address it, i still believe he is the best man for the job.

Just back from the match and scanning quickly through all the negative posts.......good to be home!
I promised myself I wouldn't be overly critical until the season was over......and now it is !
Q;Little Jay Spearing?...If we were to put him up for sale would Man Utd, Chelsea, Spurs etc. be involved in a bidding-war?
A; No......he might have performed ok'ish against one or two of the more physical teams but he's about as cultured and skillful as my Aunt Mable's zimmer-frame.
Q;Stewart Downing?.....Has the £20m been a wise investment?
A; Only if you're on some sort of tax-fiddle.
Q; Has Enrique's form dipped lately?
A; Yes...I need a sick-bag and a parachute!
Q; Is Jordan Henderson a keeper?
A; No...he's a central midfielder. Please tell Kenny that he's a central-mid (and a very good one at that)!
My previous posts have been re-inforced by our performance v Chelsea yesterday;
Check back and you'll see I've always said;
1. Sell Spearing
2. Get a Top-Class defensive-Mid in the mould of Hamman/Mascherano/Alonso
3. Persist with Kenny's buys....Henderson and Carroll could be massive !
4. Sell Spearing
5. Get a top-notch finisher (the players we have now are all good "providers" but none of them are "strikers")
6. Invest in a young creative midfielder....Rasmus Elm could be a good addition
I'm not pretending I know more than Kenny but I've witnessed Shankly, Paisley, Fagan, Souness, Evans, Houllier and Benitez first-hand.
I've spent my hard-earned cash witnessing the best and worst of these eras.

Here's some stats for them fans saying chelski were the better team.
Chelsea 13 shots Liverpool 17
Chelsea 1 corner Liverpool 7
Chelsea 38% possession Liverpool 62%

I know its the score that matters but again yesterday just showed our lack of cutting edge.
Our build up is slow and its been obvious to everyone that we lack speed in midfield as we have for years.

Sensible buys in the summer and I think we can compete for the top 4 next year.

LAVERS {Ed022's Note - Goals: Chelsea 2 Liverpool 1. That is the only important statistic I'm afraid.}

Chelsea were the better side LAVERS mate simply because they totally controlled the game until 60minutes and we didn't turn up until we were 2-0 down and Andy Carroll gave them something to worry about.
We have fallen a long way in a short time since Rafa left (I for one thought he'd run his course but it just shows, be careful what you wish for I guess).
We were really mis-managed under Hicks & Gillett and I guess them going and Rafa staying would have meant no Hodgson decline and at least champions league most seasons (I know Rafa failed with his last one but again like this year there were many off the field issues destabalising the club).
We are now in the situation where we must stick with Kenny and allow him to decide what's in the best interests of the club, as he knows better than all of us. If Kenny decides he should stand aside or move to DOF to work with a Rafa, Roy Evans or AVB as manager then we should all respect that and get behind whoever comes in.
If Kenny decides he's staying as he feels there's no one out there who can do a better job than him then I trust his judgement, remember Kenny wanted to be caretaker when they appointed Roy because he knew he was a better fit for us, and he was proved right.
I'm not happy with results, neither are the owners, neither is Kenny Dalglish but we must back him now to do what's best for Liverpool Football Club because he has always done just that and always will.
We are all fickle fans when things go badly, if Man City win the league just wait for the Utd fans to call for Ferguson's head - how bonkers would that be but it would happen and already has to a degree. Arsenal fans have called for Wenger to go because they've been 7 years without a trophy but who could do a better job for them.
We must have strength and faith, show some trust and loyalty everyone, I'm not saying blind faith like lemings leaping over a cliff but we are better off now than we were 18 months ago. Remember when most (me included) wanted Rafa out well I for one think we need to learn that lesson and not become Chelsea who will change their manager yet again if they lose the CL final, it just won't work.
I don't care too much for money, money can't buy me love.
I Love LFC whoever's in charge and whoever wears the shirt.
YNWA from ALB.

I'm off the the five ways then mate to watch them parade the stats from an open top bus

'Pass and move' is no good if its sideways and in your own half...

Chelsea dominated until about 30 minutes left. Sure it was when Carroll came on, but it was also fatigue. They have played alot of big games lately, including wednesday.

Good morning all. I tend to agree with some posters on here that the deciscion on Kenny has already been made and that he will be leaving at the end of the season. I think the only position he could fill is the one he did before with the youth/ambassadorial role at the club. He's being blamed in some quarters for his buys so would people trust him as a Director of football? I didnt want him coming back as manager because of whats happening now. He's gone from hero to zero with some people and that hurts. He was a fantastic player for this club, and up to Hillsborough, a brilliant manager. He came back and gave us a 'feel good factor', brought an honesty and warmth back to the club, and his dealing with the media was first class. This season the football has been better, no doubt. At times we have been unlucky, but theres been too many of 'one of them games'. If its all down to tactics or the players is another thing. He doesnt seem the same man lately and although I think he knew it wasnt going to be as easy as the first time in charge, I think he didnt realise the pressure was going to be as much as it has been. I think the way the Suarez episode was dealt with showed him that too, that you really cant do or say anything without the press killing you for it. Will be a shame to see him go if he does and I cant think of anyone to replace him, but whoever it will be will get my support

For 60 minutes we were LFC of league this season then players just woke up from all the chering we LFC fans did..

I dunno, I think Enrique has been playing too much Fifa, he never clears the ball and always looks to play himself out of danger (which rarely works...)

I know it is hard to lose a cup on a bad decision but sadly this wont be fixed until goal line technology is brought in BUT atleast we have seen how dangerous Carrol can be and if played with suarez on a regular basis they will be dangerous combination

It was clearly not a goal. Deal with it. If we went for the throat from kick off we wouldve won easy but we lacked a pair of testicles for the first hour

Thought I'd message those who are of the opinion,'Carroll played well yesterday why didn't Dalglish start him he doesn't have a clue. Pathetic, you've been slating Dalglish all season for holding faith with him,and let us not forget most teams posted up here yesterday played the formation we played. We got out played, but I'm still proud of the players, they didn't give up and if only for two spearing mistakes and them not being so lucky, mata's goal v spuds and yesterday, shocking! Lastly I would like to say Kenny has built a team easily capable of winning most games,he hasn't hit the post 30 times this year. I think he has been let down by his signings,in all honesty. Whether he'll get more time is another question altogether. And one I don't have the energy to get into. Long live the king. YNWA. WelshBoyDave

The buck stops with the manager I'm afraid. The manager signed those players.

I agree I would have started Gerrard behind Suarez, but after 20mins with Chelski dominating, Suarez isolated and us not being able to get out of our own half, I was screaming 'get big Andy on'!!

Spearing off and make Gerrard show us he still has the legs for CM. Kenny plays Spearing because Gerrard is not half the player he was.

You may as well say "If we had won all our games we would be Champions". It's facts that matter and the biggest fact is that we have had a poor season. Just imagine being an Evertonian - they will consider it a great season if they finish above us - even if we only get 10th place. I still say that we are going to be a force in the League next season - just wait and see.
Dutchmal

We will only be a force if we buy at least 6 quality players. For me it would be:

Vorm
Isla
Wetzel
Ramirez
Moses
Giroud

Too many outs to list...

And AvB or Martinez as Manager.

Did anyone take note of Roy Keanes' pre-match comments about how Dalglish nearly signed him for Blackburn! We all remember the effectiveness of Shearer & Sutton there...
Dalglish has an eye for top players, the only problem I think he has had is making sure his buys are helped to manage the expectation levels at Anfield.
Carroll, Downing,Henderson,Enrique have never had that kind of pressure on them so in my opinion it would take time to adjust to that.
Dalglish & Liverpool have been unlucky, firstly, Lucas was the biggest blow, before he got injured we were looking very solid.
Secondly, we lost Gerrard for a long time, our new guys would take longer to settle if our captain couldnt play with them week in week out when they arrived especially in terms of handling the expectancy levels.
We then had the Suarez drama, enough said about that, crucial thing there was we lost him for 9 games.
Above all Dalglish has been out of management for a long long time and no matter who you are and how good you are you would need at least a season with a full squad to find you're feet in this league.
It has been a dissapointing season by our standards but I dont think sacking Kenny is the answer, the man should get another season, Im confident his buys can only get better for they're experiences this season.
What I'd hope for next season is that the owners continue to invest in the team and the youth setup and Kenny is kept on at least till the end of his contract.
I believe the coaching setup needs to be improved slightly, goalkeeping and attacking jumps to mind, players arent playing with the confidence they need. When Hiddink came to help Chelsea the first thing they did was go on team building exercises which brought the group closer together and translated into confidence on the pitch. We need to look at that.
Question now is do the owner bring someone else in and start again or build on what they have done this season with Kenny and trust him with additional funds to make the right buys for the club at the right prices.

On the LFC website - SG 'We'll bounce back', KD ' They'll learn a lesson from this' .......AAAAGGGHHHH How much longer do we have to listen to this cr#p. We've heard this for so long and nobody is bouncing back and nobody seems to be learning. Far too many mediocre players in squad, unfortunately i don't think we have any hope of signing anyone with any ambition the way things are going. Feel sorry for all the fans who had a long arduous journey down to watch 30 mins of footie.

A disappointing day yesterday but one not without hope.
Carroll put in a star turn once he was introduced and has rightly been lauded.
However when he came on we played just like Chelsea, as in send it up to Andy have him knock it down for someone to run onto. Miles away from pass and move football. Are we really wanting to play this way in the future?
Lack of confidence also cost us throughout this season, Downing looks very low, he didn't try to beat anyone all game he just held it until enrique came charging past.
Henderson couldn't get on the ball as Gerrard kept dropping deep to get it off Spearing. He was basically made ineffectual by his captain.
I also think Glenn Johnson had a good game and his attacking threat is one of our better assets.

What is distressing though is the vitriol spouted by fellow fans on this board in the direction of Kenny. He might not be getting the best out of the team but his record is still fantastic. His relationship with the club over the years has been exemplary and his dedication to the fans after Hillsborough was tremendous. Support the team through thick and thin. Anfield is too quiet, raise the roof each time you go, intimidate the opposition. Only a few signings needed and we will improve.

Long live the King

Pass and move technique wasn't moving, Spearing wasn't technically gifted enough to play that way and I have no problem playing it up to Big Andy if he plays like that everyday.

The thing is though he was more than a head, he controlled the ball with Head chest and feet, he worked his b****cks off to get everything and his goal was brilliant -McMenemy

Carroll did very well with the ball being hoofed up to him, tried to control it and take it down as he isn't even that bad with his feet (As his first goal showed). Henderson made a few runs into the box and headed it back across to where Carroll would've been if he had started. I don't see why we need to play wide players as Johnson and Enrique both get forward enough and all it takes is a pass from Gerrard/Henderson to get them into a crossing area. All Bellamy and Downing did was pass it along the line to our full backs, so it was 2 wasted positions in the team.

It's ok to blame Gerrard every time the midfield does not function, but remember in the middle of the park our player's are not as good as Chelsea, so this impacts on our captain ability to play the game he would like to. Look at their first goal, mistake by Spearing, Where was Henderson? They had 2 runners in behind our centre mid's in their own half. Our midfield is not good enough simple. Lampard plays well because he has the player's around that compliment him, Gerrard does not. Sam armchair

You are both right, we need to be able to do both, pass and move or mix it up with a quick ball up to Andy

06 May 2012 10:02:31
Classic example yesterday as to why this buying young talent is a load of tripe.

For the first time, I am now starting to question Kenny's tactics, 4,5,1??.

The reason we lost the final is IMO, we were to cautious. We should never have played Spearing, we should have started Shelvey. To offer us more going forward, than Spearing ever could. With Chelsea's CB problems, surely we should have started with another attacking formation than we did?

IMO, Kennys strange cautious approach maybe cost us the FA Cup. Couldn't believe that Steve sat back so much in the 1st half?

End of season report 'could and should have done better.

Expect big changes ahead, me thinks.

I agree. I think Shelvey is better than Spearing and Henderson he has flourished since his loan spell at Blackpool.

It was a wierd one we set up like we were going to play like we did agaisnt norwich but gerrard sat back bellamy played just behind suarez and we played the long ball tactic that suited carroll hence the good performance and is bad for suarez just hope they can play together with the right tactic I also expect big things again New manager New team New look New belief

WHAT WENT WRONG?

KK should've played Carroll from the start, that's what!!!!
Funny how Kk quotes players being naive!! Come on kk, you ballsed it up, mate. I love to bits but you put out a defensive formation with suarez hardly getting a touch in the first hour of the game (on his own trying to deal with high balls!!) Terry must've thought it's his birthday!!
Then with 30 minutes left (30 minutes), you bring on Carroll and the game changes...at last a player who wants to rip Chelsea apart!!
Sorry KK, time to move up (we still love you) and let Rafa/Mourinho come to buy players that are worth the money....
This season could've been a lot better, we were unlucky in a lot of matches but teams change their luck by letting go...
I know I've upset fellow fans but mates, we have to look up to the sky and face facts....
Love KK, love LFC more..

ed's quick thought:
if we get another striker (hopefully: O. Giroud), I'd like to see that striker upfront with Carroll, and Suarez to play as CF, behind both strikers.
Tell me your opinion, if that is possible, would that kind of style fit Luis?
so if that would work, we'd just need RM (Belhada), CM and LB (here I hope Johnson will stay as RB, Enrique has been really bad last 3-4 games, he had many failed crosses, passes...)... Idk what will happen with with our keeper, cuz' Reina has also played really bad, below his abilities.
pls reply,
Luka {Ed022's Note - It depends on which type of striker Liverpool purchase. If Liverpool pursued their interest in Matius Suarez Liverpool could play a very attacking 4-3-3 formation, M.Suarez as RF, L.Suarez as LF and Carroll as STR.}

If we signed soldado ed how would you expect our attack to line out? Cheers, Josh {Ed022's Note - Suarez and Soldado.}

1.younes belhanda
2.pablo armero
3.bruno of villarea
4.michal kadlec of bayer leverkusen

please give me ur responses

in other news i saw lionel messi scored 50 in la liga and 72 in all competitions...thats incredible and he even has a high amount of assists as well. Eds i know that he is a loves barca but do you think after winning so much so early in his career at barca he might attempt to test himself in any other country?england italy germany? just thought i'd ask to hear you guys view because i truly believe he is becoming the best ever!

35 million well spent there mind well done haha evertons entire team probs not cost that and they will finish above u lot!!!!!

So what if everton finish above us. its not like they have won the league. you person and loser.

But will NOTHING as per usual eh bitter. You have to be in it to win it and i didn't see your lot in the final!

The difference between us and you my little blue-nosed bitter Toffee is that when we have a shocking season we still win a trophy. However when you play better than normal and better than us - as you have this time out, you aren't good enough to win anything.

06 May 2012 08:11:40
Yesterday proved what we have known for a while now. Kenny must go. Yesterday was made for Carroll as shown when he came on. He was a collosus when he came on bullying their defence in what was possibly his best game for us. If he is given service he will score goals for fun. It's time for a huge clearout.
Reina - get rid shocking yesterday. Look at his record. Is poor in the games that matter.
Johnson - keep
agger - keep
skrtel - keep
Enrique - get rid. Shocking display yesterday and for the last few months. Will never understand why rafa got rid of riise.
Spearing - get rid. Nowhere near good enough. Feared for us when it was revealed he was starting. He'd struggle to get a game anywhere else in premier league and is championship standard at best.
Henderson - get rid. Will never understand why we wasted so much on him.
Gerrard - keep not the force he was. But play him on the right to fire in crosses for Carroll next drain.
Downing - huge disapointment but keep as squad player.
Bellamy - keep as impact player bit poor yesterday.
Suarez - keep but needed big andy alongside him yesterday.
Carroll - he is our future. Him and suarez could be unstoppable next season given the right service.
Kuyt - get rid
in summary from yesterdays team I'd get rid of reina, Enrique, spearing, and Henderson. Add Adam to that list as well.
Bring in the following:-
lloris for reina
riise for Enrique as short term measure till Robinson is ready.
Ramirez for spearing
Johnson for Henderson.
Team for hext season
Gk lloris
Rb Johnson
lb riise
cb skrtel
cb agger
rw gerrard
dm lucas
cm ramirez
lw Johnson
cf Carroll
cf suarez
manager - anyone but kenny! Guardiola if he can be tempted if not what about harry redknapp?
Anyway I'm back to sleep now to try and recover from this stinking hangover!
Neil

So you'll get rid of Enrique who is basically I think exhausted from playing almost all the games and bring in Riise who is about 4-5 years older than him. Henderson has been playing well this last month. agree with the rest.
But, I have a suspicion that had Carroll not scored yesterday, there would be a get rid sign beside him.

Is that you Harry?! Singred

I think its time for you to go Neil

Gotta say I love pepe but the amount of times he's been beaten on his near post this season is very alarming. For a top keeper I just don't get it.

I'm also surprised at how poor Emrique has been over the last couple of months. Not sure if they are both suffering from confidence but they both need to work on their game.

For me Spearing will never be upto the standard we require and I would offload this summer. He always seems to be chasing shadows in games . By no means upto playing in our centre mid.

Downing needs to work on his game if we are to keep him. I doubt we will sell, but there's many a time of late I forget he's on the pitch, until the commentators mention him.

Henderson and now Carroll are beginning to show signs of settling in. Admittedly it's only been over the last 2 months but at least it's happening.

Skrtle and Agger have been excellent all season, with Skrtle player of the season for me. The defence should be built around these two.

Gerrard has had a bad season with injuries etc, but does still have more ability than most of our midfielders. This has been our downfall this year. We have no strength in depth in the squad but our midfield is sadly lacking any quality and creativity. This will need addressing in the summer.

We lost the game yesterday in the middle of the park. I think that was the quietest I have ever seen Bellamy, very surprised by that.

Some out and put wingers with pace and skill are a must, along with a driving midfielder.

For me Affelay of Barca is a must for me. He's been injured this season with a serious injury but seems to be getting back to fitness. He would cost roughly between 5-8 million, and would be a steal for that.

I'd obviously welcome the two players Macca mentioned we were interested in (Soldado and Muniain), but I'm unsure if
1. they would be interested and
2. whether they would pick us over other interested clubs.

This would certainly answer our goal scoring problem. Having a front three of Carroll, Suarez and Soldado provides competition for places, and would keep them on their toes.

The ideal midfielder would be Javi Martinez of Bilboa but I don't see any chance of us getting him due to interest from other clubs and also his fee.

Honda would provide creativity and would again provide competition in the midfield.

I surely hope we are now securing deals before the euros. As if we wait until after then we will definitely miss out on some.

Last season I felt we moved at the right time to sign players, and got deals in place at the right time. We need to do this again this season to ensure we have more quality in our squad.

I would feel a lot more confident for next season if we had a midfield of
Gerrard
Lucas
Henderson
Affelay
Muniain
Honda
Downing

And an attack of
Soldado
Carroll
Suarez
Would provide a sufficient enough threat and competition too.

Our squad is in too much of a comfort zone knowing they will play regardless of their performance. Just look at Spearing against Fulham.
He was woeful and could have cost us three goals in that game, but he still started at Wembley and was still woeful (and had a hand in their two goals).

We desperately need more strength in depth which I hope is addressed as soon as the season is over.

Sadly there is no DOF in place still and would expect this needs to happen before any signings happen.

So here's hoping we announce the new DOF soon so we can start doing some business.

I'd be over the moon if we announced that Munain, Affelay and Soldado had signed prior to the euros beginning.

Ed any news on the new DOF as yet?

Jonesred {Ed002's Note - There is nothing yet.}

Reina has been bad at near post go back 4. 5 years look at goals drogba scored against us

We need Benitez! Sell cole, aqualani, flanagan, jones, darby, eccleston, hendo, spearing, downing, kuyt.

Sign....well lets be honest i dont think anyone on this website knows any of our transfer targets esspecially as we all want a new manager first!

Hopefully if its benitez he gets rid of the rubbish and the owners give him an open check book, its not like theyve spend a fortune so far! Then we should be alrite!!

Kennys tactics yesterday proves theres no ideas there for 2012 football, jay spearing shouldn't of been playing, did kenny watch him against Fulham.?.downing is a complete waste, has ability to beat people, but theres like a force field there stopping him from doing it,all this passing backwards does my head in,its not build up,its wasteing time, enrique has lost the plot, nothing there, thank god agger got on his case,If kenny played people in there right place, things might get alittle better,i also think our captain fantastic days are over too..There needs to be big changes at liverpool fc,starting from the top to the bottom....

Gerrard is still able to contribute and is still better than any midfielder Liverpool have at present. Other than Lucas we are poor in this area. Sam armchair

I am absolutely gobsmacked reading this page. I am United and hate Liverpool with a passion as I am sure most of you hate us. But I am old enough to remember Hillsborough and the dignity that Kenny brought to the football club. If my memory serves me well he attended virtually all the funerals and has never ceased to back all the families. Now I read on here some of your supporters questioning him. You lot need to take a very long look at yourself and remember what really matters. A silver cup or the supporters who go to watch. An old man said Football was more important than life or death. He was wrong and Kenny knew he was wrong. I hope you loose every game you play but to be a Liverpool supporter and ever criticise Kenny is a disgrace. I AM KLOOT

he needs a challenge, nothing bigger than us out there at the moment. we have a big spanish contingent in place, 1st team and youth/reserves etc. what a challenge that would be for him. he's not motivated by money, just the challenge to make a little history.

Lfc fans so fickle, carrolls crap, now carrolls good,so lets slag spearing off,I remember caragher starting out at right back and getting booed, open up your eyes the problem is dalglish, the man who picks the players and the team and decides the tactics, the truth is he's been out the game to long, are you telling for 15 years he had a team of scouts looking at players around the world, and was actively doing the same himself,or like you and me watching football on the box, well judging by his signings and the prices he paid I would say he's been sitting on the couch can of beer in one hand slice of pizza in the other.......you fools

06 May 2012 09:39:24
I think Kenny gambled on Spearing Henderson in front of the back four and it didn't work out... Men against boys and is showed until Carroll came on. Stevie G is better as a defensive midfielder nowadays alongside Hendo to marshall him a bit a get him to do the running forward. Suarez was pretty much nullified until he had some help. We badly missed Lucas and it really showed. Stil I am glad that the boys fought back and acquitted themselves pretty well towards the end. I have always supported and wanted Carroll to do well...Hopefully the boo boys will now get off his back and let him get on with it. Oh and by the way the ball was definitely over the line although he should have just burried it anyway ! This will be a crunch year for the king, he needs to evolve not only his tactics but his general handling of the media and the ever changing footbal world he now finds himself in. I for one hope that he succeeds and wish him all the best for the new season. YNWA Tobiwan.... P.S. I thought the fans were top notch in the second half and really got behind the boys

gutted about yesterday this has to be the worst liverpool team since sounesss,s clowns daglish simply isnt upto the challenge and another year out of the champions league will lead to more mediocre signings and even the neutrals i watched the game with yesterday wanted chelsea to win because of the way our club handled the suarez affair . im embarrassed to be a liverpool fan

To be fair to KK, the team that souness had was of a much higher standard than the one KK currently has. It also had more strength in depth than the current squad.

We are very lucky fans having the chance to go to Wembley three times in a season. We have won one cup and drew the other 2 all as the ball was well in.

I can't believe some of the posts on here. All I can say is thanks king kenny for giving us a chance to win things. At least we are believing again.

Let's hope we get the best out of Carroll next season. He made us believe yesterday and at least we gave a great fight to get the draw.

Really think the starting line up was faulty yesterday. Leaving Carroll on the bench limited our attacking options. Asking Henderson to sit was a mistake also, he had a stinker until he moved up a bit. I also, like numerous eds believe that kk will step down, hes steadied the ship but modern day management isnt what it was.
We were not the best team on the day but did our best to slavage the game in the second half. Lets be honest with ourselves and say we have not been good enough this season, regardless of yesterdays result, however, we are building and will come through, it may be another year or two before were challenging for the title but i believe a decent improvement next season, and one I would take would be Quaters/Semi of Europa with 5th, but would love 4th. Before im slated for my lack of ambition look at the teams in the top 6 now. City, United, Chelsea, Tottenham, Newcastle, Arsenal. All of those teams have been better by a country mile, consistently and will only improve next season. We need 2-3 good signings to really challenge the top four. Bring on the transfer window.

Just on a note about our opposition yesterday, how has Di Matteo not been given the job full time yet? Hes worked miracles with the morale there.

Morning!!
Just wondering where all the Andy Carroll bashers have gone?
If KK or should that be DD (Defensive Dalglish) played 442 from the start we'd now be FA Cup winners!!
All we need this summer is a pacey right winger.
Downing did ok.....Get Charlie Adam in the centre and away we go. Oh and a manager who is positive!! Play 442 with With Carraoll and Suarez and we'll win more than we lose!

Morning Ed's. Just to summarize the season, take alook at our league position when Lucas got injured, plus we have hit the bar post a record number of times, Gerrard in and out with injuries the Suarez situation, Adam Johnson and Kelly injured, a lot expected from Henderson in a short time, Downing not used to his strengths that's due to Carroll not starting enough games, as shown yesterday he is improving, couple of signings, a right winger a top CM and up and coming CM ideally Joe Allen, keep Reina Agger Skrtel Coates Johnson Lucas Downing Henderson Suarez Carroll, bring some youth thru and sign Elm Honda Allen and a quality RM and bring back Rafa and Paco. Please post as it took a while to types this off my phone.

In the cold light of day what really hurts is the fact that Chelsea didnt even have to play well to win.We sat back and kept giving them the ball.
When we eventually woke up and realised we were playing in a Final it was too late, although we nearly got back in it.
I am not going to criticise players or management but would hope that they all sit down and watch the whole game and draw their own conclusions.

Reasons KD will stay as manager

- Starting again unlikely to make us any more successful next season
- We can't afford to be spending tens of millions on new staff and 6 new players
- Board need stability on playing side while they address stadium and finances which are as important for our long term future
- Needs to be given at least next season to make his signings work
- DoF to be given clout re signings which will limit danger of KD making some poor choices
- Not KDs fault we hit woodwork so often
- Not KDs fault Suarez got banned for so many games
- Not KDs fault Lucas got injured
- The football upto Christmas was better
- Er, it's Kenny

Reasons to get rid

- Loss of faith in his ability to manage at this level
- Poor signings
- Stats don't lie - we've gone backwards in the league
- Tactics and performances often poor
- Poor media relations and poor handling of Suarez affair

On balance I think KD will stay - can't see DoF role for him as he'd be over the shoulders of the new manager. Therefore KD will be given another year with a new DoF having one eye on what happens if we fail to make significant progress next year.

He will be sacked he is the worst liverpool manager for 60 years

So let's face it no matter what rumours are posted on here, nobody can guess or call what will happen at Liverpool. I have been calling for kenny to go! If we have the ambition to become champions again then the owners HAVE to bring in and fund the requirements of an A LIST manager with plenty of silverware on his cv!

My personal choice would be the "Special One"and remain convinced a budget of 50 mill and whatever he could generate from the current squad would tempt Jose as I believe he has a soft spot for Liverpool and our traditions!

Any manager would require that amount and if the owners have any ambition then they will move hell and earth to make it happen If not then leave KD in charge and remain a mid table club remembering the good old days!

Went on a tour of the stadium before watch yesterday's game and the tour guide said regarding the stadium plans that she thinks that a new stadium is more Likly to happen now. She also said she's not been told anything for certain but this was what she thought. Apparently lfc turn down 20,000 applications per game minimum ticket requests.

that was a load of bs, to be fair it didnt look like a goal from the angle they gave, but it was really close in my opinion. Linesman got really lucky, wat can i say, if it was man utd it would have been a goal

Hi Eds, a quick question, how many players have LFC 'signed' and indeed 'sold' since 2005.
Would those numbers be considered 'high, average or low'.
Food for thought. {Ed002's Note - A lot. Probably more than any other EPL team numerically.}

06 May 2012 04:12:47
Thinking about the FA cup, it dawned on me, that if you buy average players then do not expect anything more than a average performance.
Our team is made up mostly of very average, and very over-rated players, and when these players are asked to perform above their abilities, they simply can't.
Over the last few years, we have let many of our top players leave, and have never truly replaced them.
Like many, I started the season with 'great expectations' but as the months have rolled by, I realised we are not good enough to challenge, and unless the average players go, we never will be!.

06 May 2012 04:08:09
how can KK have so much faith in Spearing? By far the worst player to ever play for the club and by far the worst footballer ive ever seen. cant pass cant shoot cant tackle cant run ......
Plz Eds tell me his the first out the door in the summer!!

This post isn't regarding a transfer but i'd like to see peoples opinion non the less.

What a match - everybody was hoping for a Suarez, Bellamy, Downing and Gerrard attacking side and we looked absolutely terrible.

Suarez was anonymous, Spearing made a huge mistake, which I don't hold against him, and Henderson, yet again is out of position.

We then bring Andy Carrol on, a player who we all decided was no good, and turns the game around and becomes the most potent player on the pitch.

Downing was absolutely awful, Glen did more damage on the right than Downing and Enrique put together. Did he skin one player?

I really hope Kenny will take pride in bringing us a trophy and hand the position over to somebody else.

Kenny is a hero but I do not want LFC fans to start thinking otherwise

merka.

The team as a whole didn't turn up in the first half. But Chelsea didn't really turn up either to be honest. Some may say I'm being too critical on the lad, but Jay Spearing costed us both goals.

All he had to do was get something on the ball and they wouldn't have scored the 1st.

That goal was bad, but the 2nd was truly shocking. The fattest, slowest footballer in the PL skipped past him with absolute ease.

Oh how we have missed Lucas Leiva...

Stone YNWA.

06 May 2012 02:38:01
Team selection and tactics were appaulling. Spearo dreadful, Suarez isolated, forgot Bellers was even on until he got subbed, and Andy was immense.

We got nothing more than we deserved - a goal for the only player who looked a threat and a defeat because we didnt want to pass the ball out of our own half.

The fans that travelled should have half of their ticket price repaid by the club, because the team only turned up for one half of the game. I was furious that I got uo to watch a 215am kickoff here in Australia when I could have slept in until 3am and not missed us playing any footie.

Losing a final is not ever easy to take, but easier if you go down after giving your all. Unfortunately we can not say that. The players only deserve 50% of their match payments in my opinion.

06 May 2012 02:29:49
Leaving aside the question of signings, and who is good and who is bad - something which has been done to death - my question is why have we become such a fearful, timid team?

The first hour we played like a team that simply hoped not to lose, and maybe get a 0-0 draw. The tactics and formation were pathetic.

Chelsea barely had to get out of 2nd gear to go ahead 2-0, after which they basically switched off, and let us back into the match.

Forget the transfers and the players. What is the excuse for this unacceptable attitude? Is this the same club that scared the crap out of Roma in the 1984 European Cup final before the game even started, by singing in the tunnel?

I don't mind if we lose, but we have to have pride. This pride is demonstrated on the field, not in being belligerent toward the media.

Im guessing nobody is happy with the game obviously has anbody apart from me noticed when a player for liverpool passes the ball to a team mate he stands still and says lets see what you can do (not literally) but instead of passing and the getting in a better position to recieve the ball they atand still apart from right at the end but i have noticed this and we also have proof from today that suarez is better behind main striker but we need some players with on on same level of positioning off the ball sorry about the rant and if spelt anything wrong haha. Kenny your a crap manager who is going to have a lot of free time gardening. Your signings are crap your tactics are crap you have set fire to vast ammounts of money P45 is in the post you do not deserve to be at this club a second longer. And as for a job upstairs you might find one as the boot cleaner.

hi eds all reds very dissappointed with today , ive said for some time now, that , jay spearing isnt first team material , maybe squad player. boys against men comes to mind! i said it after the derby , at anfield , maxi rodriguize couldve played in the centre , he did it for argentina , under maradona , played alongside macherano , so couldve done it for us. andy carroll was fantastic when he came on , awesome , thats the man we signed from the geordies, it lookes to me , while watching espn , that his"second goal" wasnt fully over the line. if you look at the second picture in the sequence , the shadow of the ball is seen on the floor , and it looks like part of the ball is on the line. as for pepe reina , whats going on with him?. i dont think hes looked right most of the season. not the player he was. i saw a rumoue , a while ago , that he wants to go back to spain , for family reasons . if thats it , for whatever the reason , best if he goes . again , i feel suarez played wrongly to me . at ajax , he played mostly to the right , thats where hes mostly dangerous , ac in the middle , and at the moment , downing or bellamy to the left. ah well , fellow reds , feel a bit better now !! roll on transfer window!! godbless 96 all reds steviep62

watched the game at the pub, went to a family do after to drown my sorrows, threw up in the bath room an now in bed...

im happy for kenny to get another year, but spearing has to go. im not a angry drunk but was prepared to throw my pint at the tv with every mistake he made, lets put it this way, would he start in any other midfield in top 10 epl clubs? no thought not.

im just gutted, drunk and dissapointed.
Well done to all lfc fans that was there, sang your hearts out, so on behalf of all of us, thank you.

EDS... You must be sick of the same old questions about whether Dalglish will stay or go, so let's explain it in plain English.

As a TEAM we are not performing as well as we EXPECT. Notice I said expect and not should. The reason is 1 of 2 things.

The players are not good enough?
Or the players are good enough but are not playing the right tactics or for each other.

It really is that simple.

When I watch Liverpool compared to lots of other teams I don't see them making space for each other, wanting the ball, making killer runs... Generally today was a great example.....

Poor Suarez was on his own there. When we had the ball from Reina Chelsea moved up the field into our half and pressured us. When they built up from the back there was only Suarez running around trying to break it up. On a hiding to nothing.

So in my view it is the PLAYERS that are at fault coz they do not work hard enough for the shirt.

Spearing. Not good enough for what we want to achieve. Would be fine for Villa or some other mid table team.
Henderson. Not good enough. Gets lost in a game and seems to run away from the ball!
Downing. No end product. Today running the wing but there was no in the box anyway.

Contentious one now....
Gerrard... Like KK we need to get over our heart vs head....Gerrard is NOT the player he was, same with Carra... And I don't see that captains spirit firing up the team with him... He takes all the free kick when they are more suited for a left footer. We need to let him go and get a new DYNAMIC midfielder.

This is where I see it going wrong... We need a ruthless manager that has no sentiment.

We are 4 players short of competing and 5-6 for a title challenge.

Today Caroll was excellent. His commitment was there and he worked hard. That's all I ask of a Liverpool player.

So to go...
Adam
Henderson
Spearing
Downing
Kuyt
Maxi
Cole

Promote
Suso
Sterling
Amoo
Flanagan
Robinson

Keep
Acqulani

Buy
Top striker or 2 punts.
Ie fox in the box players that can finish it when Suarez hits the post.
2 playmaker midfielders.
1 defensive midfielder as cover for Lucas
1 right winger and 1 left

I see the defence as Johnson...skyrtel... Agger... enrique... Kelly...Robinson...Flanagan ...

Loads of options there... If the midfield is good then these will not have the problems we had today... Got battered in midfield most of the game.

I still think Lenny is negative though. He needs to learn to take risks and try to win a game. The points we have dropped is not acceptable. I don't mind risking 1 point for 3 every game.

So make up your mind people.... If another manager came in with this squad would he get any better out of them? I think not as we have too many mediocre players with no winning mentality.

I agreed with some of your points until you said keep aquilani and promote flanagan are you mental?

You don't even know how to spell skrtel right - CluelessMonkey

So dump 6 players is your answer, spend another bucket load and try again. What if then again next year it doesn't work out, dump 5 and bring in another 5? We can't keep up this cycle.

I agree some have to go but Downung and Henderson have more to offer. It's more an issue of coaching and confidence with them and AC. Lucas has been so badly missed too.

Your thoughts in bringing back Aquilan
and hoping three players under 21 will be ample cover in defence are naive and short sighted.

Papa G

I get what you're saying but our biggest problem is not just the players it's Kenny. Yesterday we got beat not because Chelsea were better than us but our first half tactics were a joke.
Kelly should have played instead of Spearing (jay is too small to play against players like drogba, I would have played Kelly DM those long balls they played Skrtle & Agger couldn't handle him, now by having Kelly as a DM his height and strength I'm sure drogba wouldn't have made as much impact as he did) we could all tell Suarez upfront on his own didn't work after just 10mins, kenny should have brought him on at half time for Bellamy who was pretty poor yesterday.

This season apart from UTD in the FA cup every manager has out thought & outdone Kenny. We lack tactics every team we come up against already know this, that's why they sit back for 70+mins then the hit us on the break they get there goal and we've lost/draw another game.

I think if Benitez was the manager with this player we would be no more than 3/4 points of the top 4. What ever you may think of him his tactics wise theres not many manager better than him.

What's happened to us before we used to close team down we didn't give them a second on the ball but now they just pass the ball at their pleasure, we lack pace and urgency.

I think we are only 4 players & a manager short of becoming a top 4 team again,
a goal score who can run behind defenders (Like Torres used too)
a creative attacking midfielder
a skillful RW with lots of pace
a CB replacement for Carra.

Lol I've had a few pints tonight to forget this cup final

TheBA300

Whoever you are, you are almost buying a team minus defence.........

Its totally wrong......

We need 3-4 players depending on who are going out.....

Major work on the team has been done this season.....This team will perform much much better next season.....

LiverBird

You confirmed you didnt know what you were on about when saying keep Aquilani

Generally, mate.
People see players as robots, and those people seem to think it's just a matter of programming them correctly and you'll win matches, so they just see Kenny as being the man who programs them wrong. For the life of me, i can't understand why players are never held accountable for their results. Yes i was a little put off by our tactics v Chelsea, much too negative for my liking, but sometimes you can only play how the opposition let's you play, if Andy's header had've crossed the line there would be different responses on this site.
People are so easily led to a negative point of view from something to small, yet it's so difficult these days to lead somebody to see things in a more positive light...

What happened to Jay Spearings performance is a perfect example, he saw things going in the wrong direction, so he acted. Unfortunately he tried too hard and it cost us dearly. But i have to say, if everybody else played with his spirit, we'd be a much better outfit.
I've said this MANY times over the last few weeks, but let's bring in the new season with a bang, if we find it goes tits up after the opening matches, then we'll start to worry.
The players are human, much like the supporters, they will get disheartened at times, they will suffer from a lack of confidence and the stress of expectations, look at the england team! So a new start to a season will only help them aswell.

Red7.

It was kenny that bought these players in that you would like to leave, plus its up to the manager to get the tactics right, when carrol came on we were far more threatening, downing had some one to cross to and not just saurez on his own.
So yeah another manager, who is more tactically aware, would get the best out of these players.

You are a tool Plain and Simple

Gerrard was asked to play a deeper role because Kenny knows young Jays limitations, so you automatically think Gerrard is finished.

And where are you going to get the motivational captain to drive the team on like Gerrard has for over a decade there are just none about?

Over Simplistic claptrap is your cure!

The goat of Mendes

Flanno and Robbo need to go out on loan, they need to be gaining experience, week in week out, they should join one of the clubs going down or coming up and just play without local expectation. They have ability they just need to develop and learn the trade.

Has carroll finally won the majority of the liverpool suporters now I've back the guy from the very begining and if u don't belive be I'm sure there ed could track some of my posts regarding carrolls name to my ip if that proof was needed so everyone get behind him. He will be bully defenders once again next season

How can we track your posts if you don't even leave a name ? - besides that fair point
NextGenRed

I have always backed Carroll from day1.The big man WILL come good. What he does need are better player's round him but what he doesnt need are fan's getting on his back.He needed time but he's nearly there so back him up&watch the big man go.....YNWA!!

Still not convinced.
He has had the whole season.

It all depends how you want us to play.We should be able to mix it up ,But while I don't want to see that Defensive boring counter attacking Sh**e that Chelsea played yesterday.I don't want to see Joe Royles direct alehouse football either.

Well I haven't and if he proves me wrong I'll happily......get Carroll on the back of my jersey.

06 May 2012 00:37:48
I think like Kenny said, we'll grow from this defeat, highs and lows are bound to come.

- Kenny should have started with Carroll.

- Suarez had no impact whatsoever for the first 60 mins

- Spearing is not good enough for Liverpool.

- Just before the game ESPN showed a stat: Downing has created 53 goalscoring chances (Chances that weren't converted into goals)--almost 20 more than any other players in the PL

- I think Reina had a terrible season this year. The first goal is as soft as it can get for a goalkeeper of his quality, beaten by a regular shot on near post. Where's the desire, Pepe?

- Don't worry, Chelsea will never win the CL!

- Another game gone without Torres scoring!

- At the end of a storm there's always a golden sky.

- Proud to be Liverpool fan! YNWA

Jack D.

Just got in from wembley , and i am feeling down not just about today but the future , downing, spearing, henderson ,enrique and others makeme worry as they are no good and in my opinion they are not going to get better neither is shelvey
how ever you feel get to anfield to support the reds against chelsea we have lost before so do not let today empty the ground next week.
ynwa red mick tag.

Good post , but why did you have to mention Torres , it was some of our players who were just not good enough today , and our tactics were not positive enough too

I would have no problem selling Reina if a good offer came in.He really has been very up&down for a long time.

Downing does create chances. You can see him doing it with nobody attacking the ball or busting a gut to get in the box. This seems to knochis confidence so he checks back the next 5 times and looks timid. Nodoubting he's not n p to scratch but he's been considered useles when he's not. It's a tough job on the wing, a fine line betweensuccess and faiure.
It also doesn't help with a left back so erratic and unpredictable as Enrique. He's also being asked to swap wings to often and Kenny's tactics really aren't helping to get anyone into a coherent performance at times.

Papa G

Kenny is a joke he can f off and take the crap he bought with him. Kenny is so bad at he's job he could not manage a 5 a side team.

Ed 10000022
If it works don't knock it.
So what, if Di Matteo is pandering to ego's.
He is getting results. Which is more than we are getting.
I don't see any Chelsea fans crying in their beer.
So what if their players are old?
So are Giggs and Scholes.
Only two things matter, results and goals. How one gets them is irrelevant.
Liverpool have neither.

This is the best post I have seen for a long time! It doesn't matter who is in charge as long as you win!

Results, goals, and ruthless efficiency. Only THREE things matter.

JB

"so what if the players are old? so are giggs and scholes.only two things that matter, results and goals" nice rap

Why is noone slating this post! Only Results matter? really I mean really?

Hello Ed, i personal feel Kenny got everything right today so now there is only one person i can blame and that is.... YOU! If you sent all this incredible knowledge to LFC we would have won today !

Anyhow we lost today and still i am very proud of Liverpool! I Love our club with all my heart and am gutted with the result today but i still want Kenny in charge next year.

We are a few years off challenging for the PL title and it will take time but keep faith.

G BOX

Pal we're a good few years away from challenging for the top four, we're at least 6 years away from wining the league. Kenny needs to step a side.

06 May 2012 00:13:56
I'm tired of all this Kenny bashing, why does everyone want a young new manager. What they mean is they want to get rid of a experienced proven manager and appoint a young manager who had either a flash in the pan success somewhere or what the media deems success somewhere just because he's with a small club. We've already listened to the media before and got Hodgson (manager of the year at the time) and we all know how well that went.
I know our league form is poor but the team is playing better. It's not Kenny's fault we can't convert the chances his team and tactics create. I don't want to see a load of big singings just 2 would do its doesn't matter what price, a striker and a right sided winger both preferably with a bit of pace. We have a good gk and back 4, lucas and Gerrard and Luis. We just need wingers and a striker (Carroll does seem to be getting better though). If Arsenal had listened to their disgruntled fans Wenger would be gone and you saw how he turned it around for them.
What would happen if we put in a new manager, he won't have our main players to work with in preseason because they'll all be at the euro's or the Olympics. It'll take 5-10 games for the players to get use to his methods and tactics and the league will be lost again for another year and we'll all be here again this time next year talking about a new new young manager who's going to come is and save us. Give Kenny another year I honestly think he can get us back to the top.

You say Kenny is an experienced proven manager, Kenny still thinks we're 80s/90s!

Where would chelsea be now if they hadn't got rid of AVB. I agree with you that we will be here in the same position next year, after a crap season, looking for a new manager, but only IF KENNY STAYS ANOTHER SEASON.

06 May 2012 00:11:36
Lucky for kenny we didnt win because if we threw him in the air like chelsea did with di matteo then pepe would have dropped him : ) taff red

06 May 2012 00:07:46
can i please say anyone who saw that match could have see that carroll and kuyt should have been brought on at half time we clearly miss lucas we really need a major over haul gerrad spearing downing and hendreson are not the world class players we need we need to stop buying the likes charlie adam and that we are better than that i see that a cup would have made the season seem good but covering the fact it was terrible 35 points behind we need defenders midfielders and a goal scoring striker we clearly have fallen behind but the likes of tot manu and ars need to strengten too so theres time we've to stop the multi milion pound buys for average players and build a descent side

After down 2-0 in final player must in half time . but kenny always 10/15 minute let it's not new

06 May 2012 00:03:00
Hey Eds,

What is happening regarding the DOF position? Do you know who the most likely candidates are and when one will be appointed?

Cheers,

MansfieldRED {Ed002's Note - We don't know right now.}

Can't believe so many people saying kk should of played caroll from the start. In hindsight he was great when he came on but how many (including myself) would have played him from the start considering how awfull he has been.

I would have. He's been great for months now! He works hard, has great aerial ability, and most importantly when he is on the pitch it sucks defenders away from Luis and gives him more time to face goal and run at defenders. We don't have a good enough midfield for a 4-5-1. We need two up top

Travis Lee

Chelsea have problem in long ball. we have too many cross. enrique is good in attack but very bad in defance. he should take down ramirez rather then let him pass.

Well if you look at his record for the last few games only, I think most would have started him.
