If klopp is appointed do you think it is possible, in addition to his assistant manager, that he would want to bring in some of the faces from the scouting network of dortmund when he was there?

Wouldnt surprise me with our absolute transfer howlers in the last few years and that a large part of his success was being able to identify good players at bargain prices.

In my opinion, a lot of people have written off a lot of our signings over the last two seasons or so, but i think a fair few of them are quality players but haven't been played in the right position, system or had the right tactics applied to their strengths.

I think Can, Markovic and Lallana could all be utilized much better given the right manager at the helm that instills belief and confidence as well as playing to the players strengths in some aspects.

I think Firmino would have been in danger of falling into the 'Markovic trap', as well as Origi if Rodgers stayed around for another season or two.

Lastly, I remember Lovren being so much more solid and general like than what we see at Liverpool, it's two different players almost, so if Klopp (if he's installed as manager) can bring some of his infectious confidence into the club, i really hope some of the players written off as flops get to show their true worth to Liverpool's fans and the critics.

Cheers for reading.

Agree36 Disagree0

07 Oct 2015 00:06:51
Its very true that we may have written them off and they could still come good. I think that if klopp is appointed then markovic could very well come back into the fold, this time in his actual position, along with ibe, for the times when we play wingers instead of two up front, as he has always played with pacy wingers.

Firmino is another player i think klopp would like, very much in the mould of kagawa or gotze, benteke mirrors lewandowski in some ways, if not as good on the ball, and i think dortmund had interest in benteke at some point.

Overall though my point was mainly that yes, while these players have been horribly handled, and that not that many of them are terrible, that doesn't prevent them from being bad transfers.

I'll still never forget when brendans head officially went mad on transfers - 25 million on lallana when we had teixeira, suso, coutinho, sterling and ibe already, but no quality replacement for suarez in sight.

20 million for lovren when we effectively refused to move when he was available for 8 million the summer before.

20 million for jack grealish level markovic when we had just lost one of the best players in the world.

This is the kind of nonsense we can't afford and the kind of nonsense klopp, the owners and the fans want to avoid, if we've learnt our lesson. i'd more than trust klopp to bring in shrewd signings and support them, because unlike rodgers, i know they would actually get played.

Agree15 Disagree0

07 Oct 2015 03:40:49
Spot on, Woolback! Those players came here for a reason and that's because they were good at their clubs which many of them were. Our squad has at least a core of about 8-10 players of good quality.

We may need a GK but with a competent manager who has a track record of getting the best out of players he has (believe me, BVB had scraps to work with compared to the squad quality we have) which Klopp is, I am confident that they will come good. As for the costly signings, those were players BR lobbied for and because he can't get them to play well, he'll probablyy blame them and or the TC for his mistakes, as usual. Typical!

Hi all, a few questions if I may.

Just wondering what players are out on loan? And which of them (if any) are we able to recall?

Maybe it's just me but I think Markovic and Llori could really provide us with quality under the right manager.

As a side note, really hoping klopp is signed up soon, not liking this waiting game. It looks like its his job but is it? You never know.

The possibility of players like Ibe (who has been lost for most of this season) Markovic (who i like if he can be recalled) and Gomez being given the confidence from Klopp is one of the most exciting things about his potential employment for me. Ibe particularly could just explode and realise his potential.

I don't think Markovic can be recalled because it is an international loan.

Does anybody know if Ancelotti is keen on the job? He has come across us many times and has been pictured smiling and pointing to the this is Anfield sign on his last visit with Madrid.

Reliable posters (Macca and Nevada) have said he would be interested, so yes.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Oct 2015 20:09:26
Question to put to you all, including Eds if it tickles your fancy?!

Firstly it's reassuring that we're being linked to managers of the calibre of ancelloti and Klopp and I'll be happy with either one but going on the assumption that it is Klopp that gets the role I'm wondering does anyone else find it slightly concerning that after Mainz were relegated from the top division and he failed to get them promoted again the following season, he walked away.

Also after enjoying some amazing success with Dortmund, when the going got tough and they endured a rather torrid season when they eventually finished 7th, he again chose to walk away.

Now without knowing the full details of either event or their circumstances I appreciate this is probably a very basic way of looking at these two events but it makes me think, what if he finds the premiership to be a lot harder nut to crack than he realises? Are you concerned he'll just walk away again??

Believable2 Unbelievable11

Personally would rather have a manager who doesn't feel up for it resign rather than one who hangs around past their expiration date.

Agree15 Disagree0

06 Oct 2015 20:55:26
The common response that you'll get is "We are Liverpool, no one walks away from Liverpool . . maybe except for Torres, Mascherano, Suarez, Sterling .
I agree with you and share the same concern, but will be happy if he gives us 2 years of success like he did with Dortmund.

Agree6 Disagree1

06 Oct 2015 20:57:58
e what your saying but he did what he set out to do then gave 7 years with Dortmund which by todays standards isn't so bad. I think he would be the best fit and I can see myself hoping one day that he never leaves but equally if he can get us where we should perhaps be (top 4) and winning trophies and ensuring our club is left in a strong position then I won't complain should he want a change. unless its to man utd!!!!!!!!!!

Agree2 Disagree0

06 Oct 2015 21:05:35
To be fair he was Dortmund's longest serving manager, and he was with Mainz as player for 12 years, the entire of his playing career, and then went on to be Mainz's longest serving manager. This suggests a fair degree of "stickability"

Agree5 Disagree1

You could look at it that way,or you could say he was man enough to admit he'd done all he could do and not just carry on for the payoff

Agree2 Disagree1

06 Oct 2015 22:12:41
Maybe it's an honour thing, where he think that he's run his course there and that he can't do anything for them anymore, and there better off without him. I just think LFC always do it the hard and risky way which is why we are after klopp instead of ancelotti. I think most top people in football will tell you if you can get ancelotti do it. But klopp is also exceptional but hasn't proven anything anywhere else so again that is a risk. Everyone knows ancelotti isn't a risk, which is why a lot of the fans would prefer klopp. He would be our very own 'mouinho' whereas ancelotti will just be a better version of Benitez. I think the grass isn't always greener on the other side comes to mind. If klopp flops it will be devastating, as for ancelotti I doubt he would flop.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Oct 2015 21:48:52
We don't know the particulars regarding why he chose to leave his posts at Mainz and Dortmund. You can show this in a good or bad light too.

Personally I don't think Klopp is someone who will walk away at the first sign of trouble. He was at both clubs for 7 years each and it can't have been smooth sailing all the time, so his commitment really cannot be questioned IMO.

06 Oct 2015 21:50:47
RDL if you can't move past your Rodgers bashing even though he's already gone then there's no point in having this discussion

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Oct 2015 03:48:34
Managers aren't family members that you are stuck with. Klopp IMO, knew his time was up at these clubs after nearly a decade at each and when the signs were clear that things had gone stale, he was true to himself and honourably left. Now BVB is doing well and he's probably proud to see that the club is still doing well. You have to know when your time is up and leave with your dignity intact.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Oct 2015 08:05:02
7 years is actually a real long time remember - I don't think any premiership manager has been in charge that long except for wenger if I'm correct - also seen something today that wenger has been in charge of Arsenal longer than all the other managers of their clubs put together so 7 years is down to success and commitment in my eyes

I really like Coutinho as a player and on his day he is magical, my concern at the moment though is that he is becoming to predictable, every time he shifts if onto his right foot and shoots, for me if he wants to become world class then he needs to become more consistent and less predictable as defenders are getting use to him, also some times he goes missing in big games like the derby. But he as immense talent to become a world class player.

Believable22 Unbelievable3

06 Oct 2015 20:58:25
very good player but not world class imo

06 Oct 2015 21:49:41
Derby games are not the games to judge your flair players though. Ronaldo rarely showed up when we played Utd when he was there too.

Agree2 Disagree1

06 Oct 2015 22:59:18
For me he needs to do a lot more to be classed as world class. 2 wonder goals a season and hardly any assists hardly makes him world class. I would go as far as to say that if a Spanish side offer in the region of £30 mill,I would sell

Agree3 Disagree5

06 Oct 2015 23:36:53
And Robben cuts inside on his left. When you're good enough it doesn't matter, Coutinho has certainly shown enough quality to get past his man.

Agree2 Disagree0

07 Oct 2015 03:49:51
He still needs coaching and a lot more variation to his decision making in the final third.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Oct 2015 04:01:17
I disagree. He always looks up for the pass first. If there is no pass on, he shoots. Why not? He has scored some important and great goals like that.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Oct 2015 08:07:35
I think of you looked at his game when he arrived he's done nothing but improve, for me since he's been here I've seen:
Get stronger
Be able to tackle
Be able to defend when needed
Be able to score goals
Everything he needed to improve on he's doing in my eyes, in 2 years this guy will be on a different level for me, also can't judge on Derbys mate Suarez very rarely scored against the top 4 but there are another 14 teams which really counts

It will be interesting to see if Hendo remains club captain under the new manager?

Believable10 Unbelievable19

06 Oct 2015 19:31:45
Can't see why not.

Agree9 Disagree3

06 Oct 2015 20:05:22
No manager's going to disrupt the dressing room by changing captains for the sake of it, so someone other than Hendo would have to establish themselves as a very strong, inspiring presence in the dressing room & on the pitch. And even then the manager would probably leave Hendo as captain unless the other guy is streets ahead of him.

I don't really see anyone in our current squad doing that. Very small possibility that Sakho might if his own form improves ("BR can't coach defenders" is no longer an applicable excuse), but very small.

Agree6 Disagree2

06 Oct 2015 20:30:32
I don't really think there is anyone better suited for the role.

Agree6 Disagree1

06 Oct 2015 21:39:30
IF It's Klopp. It's still not his side. It'll stay as Hendo until Klopp works his magic and brings world class players to our club. Then you'll see a proper captain who leads

Agree3 Disagree9

07 Oct 2015 03:52:45
Rafa didn't strip SG of the captaincy when he came to us so don't know why Hendo being captain will be a prob. If anything, he's going to need Hendo more than ever in the outset because he will be Klopp's mouthpiece on the field

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Oct 2015 11:55:43
Have watched very few games of Dortmund under Klopp. From what I saw, Klopp liked hard workers and pacy attackers. Most of the matches, Dortmund played really good attacking football.

I just want to know how Klopp is tactically. Is he a guy who mixes things up to keep the opposition guessing or is he a bit stubborn in a certain kind of play?

Based on his relationship with players, I know he's a really good man-manager but how good is he in improving their individual game?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

06 Oct 2015 19:42:47
High press, counter attack and a solid defence. He promotes his attackers to be inventive with there own class rather than coach were, when and how they have to be on the football pitch.

I will say he is stubborn, as I didn't see him vary much since I followed them from 13 and even last year he persevered with the same style even though the players weren't always available for it due to injury. We do have a much bigger squad for him though than Dortmund, if he can master the rotation then it should not really matter wether he varies from his style.

What I am partially concerned is did his training methods contribute to the amount of injuries he received during his final season, and I am monitoring how Dortmund do this year with injuries with a clear change in style.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Oct 2015 19:44:00
2 bundesliga titles and champions league final among others he can't be too bad tacticly in fairness. and an effective dynamic team while at Dortmand who came from nowhere really to a well respected club Europe wide bar his final season there but look at the way the fans treated him on his last day in the cup final you would swear he was a God to them. I honestly think he is one of the few genuine contenders around in the same age bracket that could go very far in his career and hopefully that's at anfield

Agree4 Disagree0

06 Oct 2015 19:44:43
Kagawa came from the Japanese second league, Sven Bender from the German second division, Sahin from their youth system, Durm from the Mainz youth team into the Dortmund youth team and now is a senior, Lewandowski from Poznan and Blaszczykowski from Krakow.

I'd say he did a pretty decent job improving their individual games winning the Bundesliga twice with them. I can say though if we brought in these types of players on low fees now that few people had heard of lots of people would be throwing a fit before they'd even played a game.

Agree11 Disagree0

06 Oct 2015 19:48:17
Not an expert on Klopp but my impression is he is more interested in improving the team and the way the team plays than improving individuals.
Most of his players at Dortmund performed better in the Dortmund team than anywhere else - Kagawa, Sahin are obvious examples.

Agree3 Disagree3

06 Oct 2015 21:04:23
there weren't any secrets to how Dortmund played and teams knew what they would get but the games I did see (maybe 10 at their best) were amazing. And it seemed to me every player was full of confidence and didn't looked worried when they lost the ball at all as they all knew what their job was to get it back, and quickly.
As for injuries you may have a point as the team/players would often run many KM further then their opponents. Maybe eds can comment on whether they feel injuries were somewhat dew to the players work-rate

Football is a man's game and right now, you have to be a well conditioned athlete to compete in the high press system. That is how you can outlast your opponent. That is what Poch at Spurs does which is why they finish games stronger at the end. If the players can't do the basics as in staying fit, they should ask yo move elsewhere where they can be coddled like spoilt children.

As for Klopp's style, IMO that is the way footie should be played. With passion, drive and intensity. His teams can defend and focuses on tactics to suit the players he has. Good enough for me.

Braydo, we don't see the half of it.

I've heared that they sent him on his way in style.

Initially, they met up at Jordans house for a game of Fifa and shots, before tarting themselves up and heading up to concert square. Apparently, Brendan wouldn't tip the taxi driver because he failed to stop off at the offy for bifters on county road. There was a drunken horse and midget race with both Joe Allen and Coutinho jockying Mignolet and Skrtle up Bold Street, only for Skrtle to lose his footing and positioning leading to poor little Joe smacking his head on the Argos window. He never felt it though. On attempting to enter graffitti, they were stopped in their tracks by a juiced up plastic MMA fighter doorman who was dismayed with Sakho's hair. After some handbags and argey-bargey, they were turned away only to go to Riozzi's pizza shop for a chicken kebab. Then, after some drunken hugs and stereotypical football terrace chants in high voice, they proceeded to crawl into a nearest black hackney and then home to their big beds in their big houses.

Next thing you know; Brendan is up first thing in the morning feeling a little cringeworthy, then it's off on a plane with his bird and daughter to a sunny climate to sleep off the hangover.

Nice.

Who knows?

On one hand, we've not earned a great reputation for how we treat players over the last few seasons, although that may not all be BR's fault, and I can certainly think of plenty of times he's flipped flopped over players. Maybe a few of them aren't exactly devastated by his departure.

On the other, a lot of them travelled to join up with their national squads and mightn't have had the time yet, and maybe they feel that if they come out too misty eyed over BR it might seem like they don't want Klopp. Sorry, I mean the prospective manager that we're going to get.

Eds i know that its obviously premature and all we can do is speculate. But to move on from inane questions like what Klopps latest bowel movement means for liverpool?or how long will it take to sign the entire dortmund squad?id like to just ask what your take on the defence and how you would remedy the long malaise we've suffered there. For me its the area that whomever comes in will need to address straight off. Providing everyone plays in their natural positions we only have moreno and clyne as full backs.Does enrique even count as a player anymore? Do you see Brad smith getting game time?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - first and foremost I would go and get a decent keeper, no matter how good the centre halves are, the defence will always be shaky with a dodgy keeper behind them. Enrique is unwanted and unneeded, sooner he goes the better. Smith is unlikely to get a chance, his contract is running down, he is likely to leave. I would like to see Skrtel dropped as well, for all his experience he is too inconsistent and quiet. But the priority is getting a safe pair of hands behind them as that will increase confidence.}

06 Oct 2015 17:06:26
Cheers for the response ed. 100% agree with the keeper. That was such a crime when we just brought in Bogdan instead of someone to genuinely push Mingolet. Hopefully Klopp can attract one of the young talented Germans like leno, horn, karius. Also spot on with skrtel though i'd have been harsher than you put it. He's been the bane of my life watching liverpool under rodgers. i'd be startin the next match clyne gomez sakho moreno. Lovren may still come good under the right coaches and system but his confidence needs to be rebuilt.
Moreno as our only left back is bothersome but again we don't really know the capabilities of a lot of these players in a good system with good coaches. Do we have any young fullbacks knocking on the door for first team? I know there's some on loan but in the u21s. i know flanagans on his way back but he'll take time after such a long layoff.

Y.N.W.A.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - probably Zieler off the top of my head.}

06 Oct 2015 18:10:40
Whilst I agree that we need a better keeper to be a top 4 side, that better defence from it argument cuts both ways. A keeper is only as good as their defence and we need to fix both or we could have the best keeper and just learn the fact they can't save everything.

Also GK seems to be the hardest position to really judge whether you're getting a good or excellent one. Lots of people don't rate Joe Hart yet his peers rate him highly. Lots of people rate Courtois yet you could go through his game and pull it apart just as much.

I'd guess where I'm going with this is we'd need to have a clear view of what aspects we want a new GK to be an improvement on. For all his faults Mignolet is an excellent shot stopper and it is the extras (that make you better than good) that he is weak on. But without a clear defensive plan to date we'd still struggle to know what we want. My hope is whoever comes in looks at the whole defensive picture and at the very least shores up with what's there till January at least and makes it work better.

Agree3 Disagree1

06 Oct 2015 19:08:53
Wrong, the defence no matter how good will always suffer if there is no confidence in the goal keeper.

I played football as a teenager about as far from academy level as Owen and crouch in height haha

But I played cb and we had a bad keeper more shaky tbh and it was horrible playing in front, it impacted your decisions and put you on edge. We upgraded one summer with a free agent and the difference we felt as a defence was ten fold, you could go for more tackles and be more confident on the ball knowing you had a good keeper behind us, it didn't make us reckless but it really did help!

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Oct 2015 19:10:59
We need a new central pair and a new keeper

Agree2 Disagree2

06 Oct 2015 20:11:03
Being a good shot stopper is not enough in today's game and that is arguably migs only strength among countless weaknesses. First and foremost regardless of what position you play you need to be able to actually kick a ball, I mean the hint is in the name of the game!!! Irrespective of what system or tactics you employ this is a fundamental requirement. It honestly baffles me how he has got so far in the game when he can't pass with any accuracy beyond 3 meters. Don't even get me started on his communication and ability to organise he defence in front of him! I doubt the best GK coach in the world could improve migs enough to get him to the required level so he needs replacing as soon as possible.

I also believe Illori still has to agree to the transfer if they exercise their right to buy, it's only Liverpool that gave away their option to retain him?

I guess he might be tempted to stay under a new manager if he was told he was part of the future plans and the either Lovren or Skrtel were not. He's not exactly getting much game time on loan yet either.

Right now I'd rather we brought in Hummels though as we need a clear leader.

Would like to start by wishing BR all the best in the future and hope has success as he gave us one of the best seasons I have ever witnessed. I do not hold all praise for him and believe that that season was the catalyst to his sacking as setting the bar high means the awful football of the last 14 months has been unacceptable. The rubbish of the committee is also annoying as the best managers have worked under different constraints.after 300m spent you would expect us to be more then a one man tram and the excuse if losing 4 great players is lost when you sign 30+. The mistakes and annoying factors has been done to death so move on and new start new hope.

I have supported LFC for over 35 years and have seen many highs and too many lows all I expect of the manager is to give us hope again. I remember magic nights under Dalglish and rafa and houllier and 1 season under BR and the under rated Evans . for the new manager no pressure of winning the title as we have spent far too much on sub standard teams but all I ask is progress and an identity.

Whether Klopp or CA or someone else they need time and our support, Anfield has become a graveyard even under Hodgson the atmosphere was better .I want to feel that atmosphere again the one I fell in love with when I first visited liverpool as a 12 year old .

Also whoever takes over we need not look to them signing their old players as the abuse Joe Allen gets is nothing short of pathetic because he is BR boy.my preference of manager is klopp because if we get CA most will expect the title next year.

This is a player I like and one that clearly has values like a level of integrity, a level of loyalty, and a determination to make the right choice for him even if that means forgoing CL football for a while. Believable1 Unbelievable5

{Ed002's Note - No there won't be.}

06 Oct 2015 13:58:56
There should be no need to spend sizeable amounts. We don't need to go through all that again. The squad has enough quality to challenge if it is managed properly. It is all about using existing resources properly which Brendan failed to do repeatedly.

Agree9 Disagree0

06 Oct 2015 14:07:16
I'm getting rather worried people are jumping the gun. I know it sounds likely he will join, but Klopp has only held talks (or his people have anyway). Let's just wait and see before we all start hyping it up.

Agree4 Disagree0

06 Oct 2015 14:07:49
The rest of this season should be just to take each game as it comes. For Klopp to get to know his players, to generate some stability, confidence and defensive solidity. See where we are at the end of the season or even the final run in. We should still be challenging for 5th place imo

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Oct 2015 14:14:35
Nonsense. Rodgers wasnt sacked because of the players he bought. It was his tactical ineptitude, his ego and the the lack of squad harmony. Are you saying we should have put up with the awful footbool for a full season because we can't buy our way out of it. That was the Rodgers solution, and it clearly doesn't work when the tactical system is flawed. that's why we're now going for the best options available. Managers who know how to get the best out of what they've got. Klopp or whoever comes in will be fully aware of the financial restrictions and so will be taking the job under no illusions and they will feel they can improve the current crop of players. Klopp will make his stamp on the squad by getting us tactically coherant. We don't know how good this squad can be under a real leader and when everyone understands their role within a system.

Agree6 Disagree1

06 Oct 2015 14:52:10
Exactly, Cmac! BR`s way is just spend, spend, spend and see what sticks. if it works, he takes all the credit and doesn`t even mention that the TC was involved (not that he needs to) and when it fails, he implies that he`s being stifled by said TC and blames everyone else. We will now see how good this squad can be under a manager (Klopp, I hope) who is tactically astute and knows what he is doing. As for the rest of the season, just take it one game at a time. There are 30 games left. that's almost a whole season in some countries (Germany play 34 league games and Portugal plays 30 games a season. there is still a lot to play for and we are not far off so allow Klopp to be Klopp (if he`s in and let him work. i had no expectations this year so nothing changes for me. i`m just excited with the prospect of going to watch a game and knowing we can win instead of just hoping we draw vs Norwich.

Agree2 Disagree2

06 Oct 2015 15:03:10
I think January should be used to off load some players the manager doesn't want.

Theres no need to be buying players as that time, we can save it for the summer and use the CL money we will have lol.

Agree3 Disagree0

06 Oct 2015 15:43:06
This team without realising it has been built for Klopp.

Brendan wanted to or more to the point had to play 4-3-3, every other formation just seemed a stop gap till pressure went to continue pursuing it.

This squad of players now will sing to klopps tune, its a high press counter attacking team (13/14 any body). Hendo will be back to his best, firmino, sturridge, ibe, ings and the one i'm most excited about is lallana under klopp. Not one of these players are possession based players, there direct using pace and power.

I have no hesitation to say that we won't need any signing other than a gk to have this team flying again, where they end up is another thing but if there is one person I would like to be right now it will be klopp

Another point is he gets to take over a 300 million pound squad and for as long as we don't really buy anyone everyone will say he did it without spending haha jammy sod

If it happens then the above will mean something, fingers crossed.

Eds i believe we need a cm and I'm a big fan of Tielemans from Anderlecht and I also no that klopp loves him, will that be an option to pursue? He ticks alls the boxes foe fsg aswel.

Agree4 Disagree0

06 Oct 2015 15:50:43
No I'm not saying we should have stuck with the awful way in which we approached games but I feel there was a naivety around the signings we made. Can you see James Milner being someone klopp will be licking his lips wanting to work with? Or our totally inadequate centre halves keeping clean sheets and playing the klopp type of football? I'm not saying he got sacked for the players he signed but I feel a lot of our player types are stock piled. I really believe that a major problem is finding positions for both firmino and coutinho in the same 11 but I'm hoping klopp does this. Do stureidge and Benteke play together? Perhaps getting to january like you say will be a time to offload and maybe give klopp just enough to get one or two players in. The end of the day he has bought players cheap enough in the past who have been major sucesses. I guess I shows the benefit we would of had if he was appoint in the summer loaded with 80m

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Oct 2015 16:54:52
Yeah but john you're just contradicting yourself, you said we should have stuck with Brendan for the season if we can't give Klopp a pile of money to fix the team? And then go and least a lot more reasons why it was right to get rid of Rodgers. Yes whoever comes in has a lot of cleaning to do but most of the arguments against you are you saying we should have kept rodgers because we can't throw money at cleaning up his mistakes.
Just looking at our squad and then looking at the system Klopp played at Dortmund. Not that we'll defo play that way,im sure it will be determined by our squad, but just as a template. Milner actually could work quite well,he could play wide right in the blaszczykowski role. Its playing him as a centre mid that was madness.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Oct 2015 21:44:13
I guess I'm just trying to understand the timing of it cmac mate. End of the day I'm over the moon if it comes off but it would of been so much wiser and exciting had he been appointed 3 month earlier but I guess I'm being greedy. I hope your right regarding Milner btw.

I really hope klopp does come and get an extra 20% out of each player then I really do believe that we will be in with a shot at top 4 which I believe we have anyway with the league being so weak/inconsistent.

I for one believe that he will want to move people on in January and believe there will be a little bit of cash there for him to spend, but that's only gut feeling. My one area of concern though if we aren't going to bring in centre halves until summer we really need protection both in front of them and behind them so let's hope a gk and cm are on his list

I have a question for any Eds/Reds

Ed1 especially talked about buying 1 too many players for the 1st team stopping the young players getting a chance in the 1st team. But my question is would it really matter under a good coach like klopp, ancelotti, jose or someone like that as buying a 32 mill benteke will not stop Sinclair making it as whoever impresses him in training will be picked for the game right ?. surely a benteke forces Sinclair to up his level of performance, having sturridge, ings, benteke, origin, Sinclair having to be at the absolute top of there game to be picked will produce results on the pitch and in turn lead to high league finishes which would let us receive CL money to not worry about benching a 32 mill benteke ?

or am I way off as i'm assuming lol

thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it might give youngsters someone to aim at, but it is often only when they get a chance in the team, through injuries or loss of form from the first choice, that they actually up their game and impress more in training. If there are too many players, they will never get the opportunity, as there will always be another senior player to pick ahead of them.}

06 Oct 2015 14:31:50
Right in ways but it also means giving them a chance to impress in a game if they're training hard and looking sharp - You need have the bottle to drop a 32.5 mill striker and go with a youngster if it looks the best thing to do

Must have missed something (work a lot) but hope your friend is doing well ed and are enjoying time with your daughter. love the site and the insight given.

Curious if klopp does sign:

1) Does he get involved with academy players and/or involved with scouting as much as the media suggest? May seem daft question but everyone in the media claims BR spent loads of time developing youth and from what I've read that wasn't the case, then as for scouting pretty sure they used FIFA ratings.

2) do you see big squad changes in the next few windows with a new manager? Genuinely drives me mad that we seem to re-haul the squad every window instead of just getting a few quality players to improve it, but with a new manager surely there will be an assessment on current players?

3) finally, is/has there been any review on the infamous "transfer committee" that seem to run all all transfers?

Thanks in advance and all the best!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - 1. He left Dortmund over the lack of final say in transfers etc, so I would think he would be looking for that in any job he would consider. Klopp certainly wants to be making those decision and being involved.

2. No. I don't think anyone else would want to overhaul the squad every summer.

3. The transfer committee took a back seat in the summer, it has never 'run all transfers', Rodgers always had the main say in that area.}

06 Oct 2015 14:17:53
Worth noting,He likes Benteke.Paul lambert said he was contacted by Borussia officials on behalf of Klopp about the availability of Benteke for when Lewandowski left. So I don't think he'd have problem working with Benteke at the club at least.

Hi All,

Weekend Loan update. Sorry it's late this week I got a bit distracted by the managerial merry go round.

Ojo palyed for the first hour as Wolves beat Huddersfield 3-0

Lloyd Jones (International) was left out the Blackpool squad as they beat Swindon 1-0. Vigouroux returned to Swindon and played the full 90. Williams missed the game for Swindon due to international duties.

Andre Wisdom wasn't in the squad as Norwich lost 2-1 to Leicester

Aberdeen have now lost 3 on the bounce losing 5-1 at home to St Johnstone! Danny Ward played the full 90 whilst McLaughlin was an unused sub.

Luis Alberto played for 70 minutes as Deportivo drew 1-1 with Granada

Ballotelli was not named in the squad as AC lost 4-0 at home to Napoli

Markovic missed out through injury as Fenerbache drew 2-2 with Akhisar

Wilson was an unused sub as Crewe lost 2-1 to Chesterfield

Awoniyi was an unused sub as FSV lost 4-0 to Heidenheim

Yesil played the full 90 getting one assist as Luzern drew 2-2 with Lugano

Canos was an unused sub as Brentford lost 2-0 to Derby.

Illori again didn't make the squad as Villa lost 1-0 to Stoke
Your on a losing streak Tim could be your chance to chuck him in!

Allan played the full 90 as Seinajoen beat Ilves 2-1 returning them to the top of the league

Ryan Kent played the full 90 as Coventry beat Shrewbury 3-0

first proper post just wanted to say when we brought in Rogers I hoped we could do things a different way and be successful with young coach and not chuck loads of money at it.
But it seems the lfc job eventually sends managers a bit crazy I feel we need a big character (been listening to Rogers too much) to make the difference and cope with the role.
If it's Klopp then I think his knowledge of the bundesliga could be useful to fill the gaps in the squad akin to what Benitez did.
whatever happens I'm right behind the team on match day.

Actually Waro the majority of the articles say the owners have been very generous over the years, the line "£300m wasted" seems to be the quote of the week.
It's no secret the owners bought our club with the aim to eventually sell it at a profit (why else would anyone buy a business?) by building the club and bringing success, mistakes have been made, like at every single club in the world but your way, way, way off the mark with the majority of the absolute garbage you write about the owners.

According to reports Klopp has always been the man they wanted, even before Rodgers they wanted Klopp. Klopp always wears his heart on his sleeve, tries his best to get involved with the fans as much as possible and gets attached to the everyday understanding of the club. He demands respect from his players, no messing around if you under perform you'll know about it and that's what Rodgers failed to do.

Klopp is an outstanding manager and like i said likes to get close to the club in the sense of start from the fans, the history, the atmosphere, the players, the backroom staff and the owners he takes all of that on board and makes it his own so to speak.

Ancelotti no doubt world class manager won nearly everything but does he have the same attitude as Klopp with making the club his own i don't think so he would just see it as a job and a job alone. Klopps loyal i just can't see Ancelotti being so loyal.

So it looks like according to the papers that Liverpool want Klopp in place by Friday and I for one would be Extremely Happy if this is the case as I believe 100% that Klopp can take our Beloved Club forward and competing for silverware in the near future and give us the fans for what we have been waiting for and that's True Hope and get the best out of our squad instead of the opposite which I'm afraid to say has happened by previous coaches and turned decent players Into nervous wrecks. With the appointment of a new manager I expect he will want to bring in his own staff and with that what happens to Gary McAllister I just hope he's kept on as I really feel he has a lot to offer to our club and hopefully Klopp if the case he's becomes manager feels that he still needs a coach or two left in place for a smooth takeover and sees something in McAllister that he wants to keep him in place.

I was just watching some videos of Klopp's goal celebrations. If the man is able to translate that energy, enthusiasm and belief into even half of the team players, then I bet you anything that we're going to see marked differences in player performances on the pitch. I know most English managers conduct themselves like "gentlemen scholars" on the sidelines, but Klopp's celebrations scream "we, we, we" while I always felt Rodgers' single finger salute always indicated "yeah, that's me, me, me". Anyway, Klopp is clearly a non-conformist, unique and different type of personality to what we normally see as a manager on most football fields. Maybe that's what is required to push LFC out of it's decades long slumber. Fingers crossed.

Agree6 Disagree0

06 Oct 2015 09:55:10
I've not been a student of the Bundesliga so I haven't got a great deal of information on which to base a view on Klopp, other than his well-documented league title wins and run to the Champions League final. Part of me is excited about the prospect of getting Klopp, but I also feel slightly nervous. Whilst he's a very different character to Rafa, there are similarities in so much as Rafa joined us having risen to prominence by somehow breaking the Barca and Real stranglehold with more limited resources at Valencia. Klopp has done something similar in Germany. In that respect, he's a good fit given the position we now find ourselves in compared to the likes of City, Chelsea and Utd. On the other hand, I think I would find Ancelotti's outstanding pedigree and track record, over a longer period of time and at a number of clubs, to be more reassuring but I then counter that with a worry that Ancelotti has always worked at huge clubs, or clubs with huge budgets, and has tended to be at the right club at the right time. Does his CV include evidence of having taken a club that is some way from the top and got them back up there? In that respect, I see Ancelotti as more like Mourinho - i.e. the man you want to keep you at the top and drive you even higher if you're already a successful club with top players and the financial muscle to keep bringing in the very top players.

I'm always very realistic when supporting Liverpool. I know what we are now and I know that what we were in the 70s and 80s doesn't necessarily mean we'll ever get back there. The 2013/14 season exceeded my expectations by a country mile and I would settle for us initially just being back in contention for the top four and reaching the latter stages of knock out competitions, occasionally winning one. We need to be doing that consistently for three or four seasons before we start to look beyond that. To put that into context, that means that over the course of a season we need to be better than at least one of City (bottomless pit of money), Chelsea (current champions and bottomless pit of money), Arsenal (most consistent top four finishers over the last 15 years) and Utd.

Despite the broad consensus that it's been a poor start to the season, ultimately costing Rodgers his job, we're not actually in a bad position. We're only three points off the top four. Fourth, fifth and sixth are Palace, Leicester and West Ham. With the best will in the world and meaning no disrespect, history tells us that those three won't sustain those positions all season. We're four points off second, and six points off the top. If we took our pursuit of the top four to be starting from now, our new manager has a four point head-start over Chelsea. We've already played away at Arsenal and Utd. We have two proven 20 goals a season strikers, with Ings as backup, good depth in midfield - albeit still lacking a real midfield dominator in my opinion. We've surely got enough at centre back to tighten things up there if we can see a consistent pairing managed by somebody who understands the defensive side of the game. And in goal, Mignolet gets a lot of stick but based purely on keeping the ball out of the net, he's actually doing a reasonable job.

I think we are a top class keeper, a midfield dominator, some decent defensive organisation and a bit of luck with injuries (specifically Sturridge) away from being in pretty good shape.

Believable11 Unbelievable0

06 Oct 2015 10:17:51
Nice post, well thought out and articulated. We've also played away to Everton and Stoke, taken 4 points there, pretty decent return. My main concern is how were playing at this stage of the season, rather than points and position. Shanks used to say not to bother looking at the ladder until Christmas, though I know times are different. If we believe that we have decent players, then hopefully a new manager can get belief and form back.

Agree, Lucas takes some stick. He is generally pretty effective, though when he starts a match with a few misplaced passes, he tends to continue with it. He is the best DM we've got, but people think we need a quicker, more powerful DM with a better passing range. Can't have everything, and a decent manager would trust Lucas to get the job done.

Agree5 Disagree1

Lucas is one player I imagine will be very safe if Klopp is to be our manager. He presses well, doesn't mind doing the ugly stuff and passes when he should

06 Oct 2015 10:57:54
Lucas is not good enough for a top 4 team. So if we 2ant to be a top 4 team we need better in my opinion. Although I'll admit he is playing ok. but his passing is hit and miss, not as bad as milner though

Agree2 Disagree7

06 Oct 2015 12:20:08
Lucas is a fantastic player but to be frank, the way he's treated by so many LFC fans he deserves to be somewhere where they actually understand the value of winning and recycling the ball. Granted he can't ping Pirlo-esq passes round the field but he does exactly what is required, when it's required in what is generally the least spectacular position on any field - even CB's have more chance to show vision and flair than a real CDM does.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Oct 2015 12:29:26
Hit and miss passing, do you even watch him. Correct me if in wrong but doesn't he have the best pass completion rate in the team?

Agree2 Disagree0

06 Oct 2015 20:13:20
My comment was in no way intended to have a go at Lucas. I like him as our DM and he always gives 100%.
I'm also aware that Rafa converted him into a DM and he has adapted extremely well.

Lucas has proved that he still has a place in the team, but if you look at how Klopp sets his team's up when playing a 4-2-3-1, he usually goes with a DM who's main job is to break up play (Lucas) and another DM who has better mobility, more pace, better passing range and is better at moving us from defense to attack.

That's what I meant when I said 'better DM than Lucas'

Hey Reds,
Reading about Barcelona's interest in Coutinho and Coutinho's supposed preference to move to Barça.
A difficult decision indeed, but I personally would sell simply because we wouldn't need to buy another no.10 as we have Fimino and Lallana and possibly Teixeira.

Believable8 Unbelievable4

06 Oct 2015 09:51:22
Kawabanga, I don't think that's a good idea because Firmino is not settled yet (hopefully he will very soon) and Lallana seems to be a different player compared to coutinho, at the moment Coutinho is one of our best players tho he lacks consistency. We have to learn to keep our star players for us to compete with big teams.
If we continue selling our best players we will always be a rebuilding error

Agree6 Disagree1

06 Oct 2015 09:52:15
Another reason is that we may sell Couts is due to needing to recoup money before the summer, especially now we are paying off Brendan's contract on top of everything else.

Also, I think this is where a possible sale of Sturridge may occur! (Subject to interest and a decent bid).

Agree2 Disagree4

06 Oct 2015 09:54:11
Hypothetically I would hope Pipco leaves a move to Barca for 2 years,I really can't see him breaking into the team. I can't see him displacing the front 3 of MSN and Iniesta probably has 2 years left and Rakitic is brilliant in the midfield. He won't go into Biscuits position,So there are only 5 places he could play and I can't see him disturbing any of those 5. With Turan also soon to be there.I think it would be a great waste of his youthful talent and would reduce his exposure to learn.

Agree6 Disagree1

06 Oct 2015 09:59:57
Ridiculous post! We need to be keeping our best players, there's a reason Barcelona are interested, and it's not because he's best mates with Neymar. What sort of statement would that send to the new manager if we're prepared to lose our best player in his first full season.

Agree7 Disagree3

06 Oct 2015 11:17:55
Phil can play a much deeper role than a number 10, he can be a modric style player, I personally prefer him coming from deep. Stick him in centre mid with Henderson and let firmino be the number 10. You just don't sell coutinho, that's the most ridiculous thing I heard

Agree1 Disagree1

06 Oct 2015 21:26:50

I have been reading the fallout of BR's dismissal and based on the Daily Fai and Sly, I am completely disgusted at the blatant attempts to heap all the blame for his failures on the Transfer Commitee. Thanks to the Eds, we know that BR is the most powerful voice on that commitee and decides who gets signed and who doesn't. We also know that he was given a free hand when he joined and that full control, gave us Allen, Borini, Aspas, Alberto, and Assaidi. WTH? Wouldn't give him a brass farthing for players after that dross. The media is trying to save BR's face by blaming the TC for blowing 300m on players on mostly players according to them, that BR had to make do with. Total rubbish! No manager worth his badges will accept that nonsense. They mentioned that BR wanted Bertrand whilst at the same time accepting that Chelsea categorically refused to sell. How's that the commitee's fault? He also wanted Ashley Williams but the TC said no due to his age according to the Fail but thanks to the Eds, we know Williams was never an option. They claim BR revealed that to friends or leaks that he felt undermined by a commitee that he conveniently neglected to mention that it was put in place because he was aweful at transfers. The media also doesn't mention that all big clubs have the very same setup with a DOF in place that work with the manager on transfers but when it's their media darling, he is being hampered. IMO, I feel the media are trying to rewrite history and BR's pathetic comments and inuendos in the media through out his time here, has turned their attention away from him and placing the blame for his failures on the TC and ultimately, the owners who are not saints but did what was needed. Just thought is share my frustration at the disingenuous and dishonest conduct of the media about this issue. Thoughts Eds and fellow Reds?

Good, let sly say what they want it might end up being a positive for us and the club changes the way it does it dealings or it will play into klopp's hand and he gets what he wants his way. Either way all the media coverage might make FSG rethink their transfer dealings.

Some of it maybe true Redohio. Even Carra has come out and said that there is lot of politics going on at LFC which may discourage top managers from wanting the job.
There is no doubt that BR had to go but that is not end of the problems that have led to our current situation.
The major issue is no accountability. Because of TC structure we don't know who is bringing in the players. We know the manager is signing off, but the reality of bureaucracy is that it is not hard to twist people' arms.

I feel that new manager should either be given full reigns or appoint a person who is assigned to handle transfers. End this TC stupidity now!!

What ever creates a hesdline! I expect nothing else from that side of the British media.

06 Oct 2015 06:32:25
I believe It's always the owners fault. They employed the manager and put together the committee. I think they are good owners and the investment is world class . I think we can safely say that if we'd given Klopp £300 million, we'd probably be attempting to mount a title defence this season.

Agree3 Disagree1

06 Oct 2015 07:08:28
While I always believe what the eds say, and I also believe them about the transfers and transfer committee, you have to take into consideration that most press are saying that one of Klopp's requests are that he has final say on transfers. So if the manager(being Rodgers) had final say, why would Klopp now feel the need to specify, and request that?

Agree3 Disagree1

06 Oct 2015 07:35:58
My thoughts are, he's gone so move on. Is it worth how angry it makes you feel? The fans got their wish so let's have some positivity and steer away from what BR did or didn't do.

It's a new era now!

I agree. The media wouldn't have given a toss if he wasn't from the UK. We saw similar defense for Harry Redknapp at QPR, Roy Hodgson at LFC, Sam Allardyce at West Ham and David Moyes at Man Utd. We will see the same media jumping to the defense of Tim Sherwood and Steve McClaren soon. By contrast, this much indignity was never shown by the media when Benitez, Ancelotti, AVB, and recently when Dick Advocaat left Sunderland. And we all know that is because they are from the UK.

Why did the media (particularly the Daily Fail) mention Ashley Williams and Ryan Bertrand as players Rodgers wanted but were overruled by the TC? Is it because they are in decent form and playing well? Probably.

Brendan Rodgers also wanted Clint Dempsey (instead of Daniel Sturridge), Gylfi Siggurdsson (ahead of Pilippe Coutinho), Alex MacCarthy or Michelle Vorm (to replace Pepe Reina) and Neil Taylor before we got Alberto Moreno. But, we will not hear this in the media.

Brendan Rodgers also wanted and GOT Joe Allen, Fabio Borini, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Victor Moses and Christian Benteke. Again we will not hear from the media about these players.

Brendan Rodgers wanted to sell Lucas, Agger, Skrtel, Henderson among others but well not hear from the media about this.

He also poorly managed Reina, Agger, Sahin, Enrique, Downing, Markovic, Balotelli (not condoning him), Carroll, Skrtel, Sakho, Borini, Teixeira, Ilori, but again, we will not hear this rom the media.

I am not saying everything is hunky-dory at LFC's player recruitment, as clearly Hunter, Barry and Edwards needs to be held accountable for some poor judgement, but if you can blame them for the getting players Rodgers didn't want a 100% (Markovic, Moreno, Balotelli, Sakho), then you have to comment them for identifying and putting forward players to Rodgers, some of who were not signed (Willian, Costa, Sanchez, Mkhitaryan, Konoplyanka, Can, Remy, Firmino, Coutinho, Alli).

Agree7 Disagree1

06 Oct 2015 08:07:51
Reina wanted to bale when things got tough and got what he deserved as he was flirting with other clubs through his dad. Enrique has never been good enough and wouldn't leave the club when an opportunity arose. The Italian was never manageable and Agger had some nasty habits. Downing wasn't good enough and wasn't his signing.

Rodgers clearly wasn't the best man manager, but there have been a number of issues with players.

Oh yeah, Sanchez and Willian chose a different club. Nothing to do with the manager

Agree5 Disagree3

06 Oct 2015 08:20:52
I am not surprised Davey has completely missed my point. This was not a post about Brendan Rodgers or the specific issues of certain players, but about the media, but I am not surprised you to turned all of this about Rodgers.

Agree6 Disagree0

06 Oct 2015 08:22:33
I don't understand why BR has to receive a big pay out after getting the sack for not being good enough. If I was relieved of my duties because I wasn't deemed good enough I may be able to sue for wrongful dismissal but that's it, there would be no big golden handshake. It's stupidity.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is not a "golden handshake" it is the club buying him out of the remainder of his contract.}

06 Oct 2015 01:39:29
Sorry to see BR go but if klopp comes who knows he might make a bid for reus, hummels or schelmzer. Let that sink in! Regardless, there are good times ahead

06 Oct 2015 06:47:03
I think the only player we'll go for in January is a better keeper. Other than that, we have players in every position.,
With a great keeper and decent coaching, we have the defenders. We also have a DM in Can or Lucas.
I think GK is the only position we need to strengthen urgently, buying loads of former players was Rodgers first mistake and it heaps pressure on you.

Agree4 Disagree3

06 Oct 2015 08:09:50
I can see him taking another look at the DM places Ron don't you think, He loves playing with the 2 midfielders who will constantly break up the play but also ping that pass when needed, For me i don't think Lucas is great anymore, I love the guy but i think injuries has killed what he once was but he may look to kendo milner and can for those roles who knows

Agree2 Disagree1

06 Oct 2015 08:26:31
I think Can is far from good enough defensively to count him as a CDM. We have Lucas but that's it. Can should be used box to box but has far too many flaws in any other position.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Oct 2015 08:53:21
Maybe Henderson could fill next to Lucas or Can? But I would think if he goes with two DMs then there isn't enough depth for 50 games, as Hendersons injury proves (thought this guy was made of steel)

GK. Agree, but Mignolet has improved, he won us a point at Everton if fairness and many games he has made great saves. Yes he makes mistakes, but then there is this great coaching we're now talking about. Add an improved defence, again due to coaching and distribution. Migs is no problems with throwing, Rodgers wanted a sweeper keeper which he ain't. Now to Jan will be make or break, but with these improvements Migs isn't a bad keeper.

Left back. Said all summer we need cover for Moreno, yes surprise package Gomez played there, but we all know that's not where he should be. Again it's the 50 games on one player, no happening.

Otherwise we have a massive squad and cover in all areas which if not good enough must be sold on before replaced. LB is our weakest area, if it wasn't Sterling, Ibe, Markovic and Ings wouldn't have been played out there. I trust Moreno can and will be a great LB or LWB but can't play every game. Gomez need to play CB.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - when has Mignolet ever made a great save, rather than a good save look great by his awful footwork needing him to sprawl full length to stop a pass that would have hit his foot if he wasn't so desperate to get it out of the way?}

06 Oct 2015 08:58:04
Re better keeper, in the derby Ming was our MOM and saved at least 2-3 goals. Had nothing to do against the goal we conceded. I wouldn't mind brining a world class keeper but I think we have other priorities.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - sorry but the keeper is the major issue and has been since day one of Rodgers' reign and we are still in the same position. Mignolet is terrible, not one Premier League level keeper would have let in any of those shots. He made one good save, but still one that any Prem keeper would be expected to make. He still flaps at crosses, he still can't kick the ball, he still tries to get down to use his hands against balls kicked at his feet and he still can't catch.}

06 Oct 2015 09:03:06
Has any first team keeper ever been sold in January Ron? Genuine question I can't think of 1.I think it would be suicidal for a team to do that, and they'd definitely charge a big sum. It's a first team keeper we need. who do you think will be available in Jan?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed023's Note - Igor Akinfeev? CSKA keeper? Russia will be in their off season so that might be possible? I'd prefer Bernd Leno though.

06 Oct 2015 09:21:40
I only watched Akinfeev in international ed.He pretty much had a meltdown at wc14 and was awful. I've not been impressed when I watch friendlies/qualifiers either.Have I just watched him in matches where he's been off form?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed023's Note - I haven't seen him since the days when he was linked with United.. Just throwing a suggestion of him because of the league he's in - thinking Klopp or whoever takes over might have a gem from over there lol}

06 Oct 2015 09:20:42
Now that BR has gone, it looks like Migs is the one that Ed1 is now targeting for his opinionated criticism

Agree1 Disagree3

{Ed001's Note - have you got nothing to say other than to be a complete and utter bellend? Try explaining why I am wrong, if you disagree, or give it a rest and infest someone else's website with your pointless whines. People like you just waste everyone's time with their moronic utterances that offer nothing of value. You have never once made any kind of point and it is time you either did or left us alone because this is your very final warning. One more pointless bitch like a 5 year old girl, with nothing of value, no argument to support your childish whines, and you will be deleted. It is pointless having you around as all you do is slag off those who have the sense to see what you can not do. You offer nothing to this site and I am bored of it. Make an argument in defence of your views or be removed. But then your only view is to slag off anyone who disagrees with you, so run along and support whoever your lover Bodgers goes to, as it is clear you are not a red since 64, you supported a manager over the club's good. Now you are doing it with a player. Embarrassing how some people just do not learn. Maybe that is what you liked about the Bodger and Mignolet? Both of them never learn either.}

06 Oct 2015 09:45:11
I would pick Ron-Robert Zieler. He's good enough, experienced and at just 26, can make the step up.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Oct 2015 09:46:03
Ah ok ed23. He might be much better at club level, but I think for the time being,we'd be better placed just waiting till summer personally.
I hope he doesn't bring weidenfeller (if he comes) I'm not a big fan when I've watched him+he's 35. I guess we will see. Leno wouldn't be bad, would you take Ter Stegen? I don't think Barcelona are too impressed with Stegen or they weren't last year. Zieler has had a few good seasons for Hannover.

Jesus,Germany have a wealth of keepers, sadly it looks like neur has that position locked up

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed023's Note - They have another lad too, Timo Horn is it? I haven't seen him but he's highly rated in Germany but that could stop Ward's passage to the first team then..}

06 Oct 2015 01:18:49
The only problem I can see is how some fans will react if we do get Klopp or Ancelotti and they do not immediately pick up results. The manager, whoever it ends up being, will have to work with a squad assembled with seemingly little to no planning & zero input from said individual. I hope we do get top 4 but I see it as very unlikely and I hope some fans are prepared for that eventuality because the timing as has been pointed out is somewhat off. Mike Gordon needs to answer some serious questions as to why this wasn't done sooner.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

06 Oct 2015 03:53:15
I agree that top 4 is very unlikely. Too many mediocre players right now for top 4. We shouldn't expect big things. He needs time to shape this team. He needs time.

Agree1 Disagree3

06 Oct 2015 06:20:24
I think most of us would be happy with the team building a clearly identity and showing some passion on the pitch, looking dangerous against the top sides again (as opposed to consistently getting mugged) and team selection based on merit and people playing in position.

If we get that right and we can close the season strongly (even if not top 4), I'll be more than happy.

It will take some time for the coach to learn the players, and for the team to adapt to a new approach, we should recognise the greater objective and give a few months grace.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Oct 2015 08:11:50
I wouldn't right top 4 off just yet lads, Reason being,
1. the league table is all over the place with random results,

2. Any new manager that comes in instantly gets a positive reaction and don't be surprised to see us win our next 8 games even its then after that amount of games roughly it gets a little tougher and that will then decide top 4, Understand this isn't his squad but can definitely still be achieved

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Oct 2015 09:07:09
Top4 should be prerequisite for Klopp, otherwise we should wait for ancelotti. We are liverpool and nothing but top4 for klopp!

I'm afraid of exactly that happening! Don't get me wrong, if we get Carlo or Klopp I'll be over the moon but I'm worried about there being too much expectancy from us fans too soon!

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Oct 2015 00:37:31
Lots of people saying Klopp left Dortmund in a relegation dogfight. This is untrue. They finished 7th after struggling earlier in the season and his last game in charge was losing the cup final against Wolfsburg. So it's fair to say he turned the season round after a disappointing start.
Also see people saying he has a track record of selling players - this is an issue for the club, not the manager. A club the size of Dortmund - not unlike LIverpool in current circunstances - will find it hard to hold onto players when the likes of Munich / Madrid / Barca come knocking.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

06 Oct 2015 06:36:11
So if we finish 7th after a poor start, is that success?

Agree1 Disagree3

06 Oct 2015 08:57:01
That isn't what AndyM was saying. Great to see a Klopp moaner already before he's appointed.
He was clarifying that Dortmund were not left in dire straits but climb the table and made a cup final, so when you here Klopp walked out and left BD in trouble it's rubbish.

Did you hear Ian Wright on Rodgers mate?
The only pundit who spoke validly on Rodgers. He said the season were many praise Rodgers when we came close many managers would have done the same with suarez etc but it was his job to stop us conceding to actually win the title And he didn't. Also mentioned the defence got worse over his tenure and he did chose most of the players. Spot on.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I haven't heard that sorry.}

06 Oct 2015 08:59:44
Yeah love 606, he called it the Suarez season. Also said he had the money to replace so no argument there either.
He was actually more towards what everyone here has been saying then Kelly was.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - yes.}

06 Oct 2015 00:01:45
Eds, there are a few references to people looking forward to the next transfer window. Are we forgetting that we're going to be in trouble with FFP unless we sell some players? I'm wondering how much of an issue that is when we're trying to recruit a new manager? "welcome Jurgen/Carlo (delete as appropriate), your first job is to try and sell some average players on top wages"

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - None. They need to work with the players at the club. I would not expect significant changes in January and if there are any it will need to be balanced.}

05 Oct 2015 23:21:45
Hello everyone, quick question for the Eds. It seems a lot of the media are using the transfer committee as an excuse for Brendan's failures with transfers. But wasn't the transfer committee created because Brendan did so poorly in his first transfer window that he was no longer trusted to make all the decisions?

Believable4 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I would not blame the transfer committee.}

Ed's, with a new manager coming in, I would assume that he would want to assess all players available to him.

Will the change of manager have any effect on loaned players or will they still have to remain out on loan for the duration?
