"could you please put a sock in it all week and don't speak until we know the result against man utd"

That's not very fair 007.

No sock should have to endure that.

06 Sep 2015 23:37:46
I could see Brendan praising the qualities of the sock, eulogising about its strength and character, and how it kept its shape and pattern under intense pressure. Basically, the sock put in an 'outstanding' performance. He then discards the sock for a more expensive sock which regrettably turns out to be full of holes, whilst leaving his best sock in the wilderness.

Mamadou Sockho.

Thats why we bought these socks, I can spot a good sock that's been left on the bench too long. both really great technicians, team players, two good feet, they never pull the wool over your eyes, very flexible in tight areas. and if you get them early enough like I did, you get 3 for the price of 2.

Quite evident that nobody has any idea at the club compared to chelsea, who hand pick the clubs their players go on loan to, and regularly check up on them. On the other hand, we go and send lloyd jones, a kid, to play at the back for blackpool, a club who are more concentrated on their off field problems than on field.

Anonymous - my thoughts exactly on Jones, I wasn't happy at all with that loan. Its going to be a long season for him!
Good to see him back in the 11 and contributing to their first win though

The worst part carragold is that chelsea have really no reason to care other than profit. They know the chances of their loan players making it to their first team with all the resources they have is very slim, so mostly its just a series of very shrewd business investments, and that's bearing in mind the amount of money chelsea already have.

For us on the other hand, as a club with less wealthy owners and smaller revenues, we should be looking to care even more about our youngsters than chelsea do, as we should be trying to care for them as much as possible and put them into the first team as so to be more efficient with what we have and live within our means. Sadly, we can't even do that. Think it says a lot about how far the club has to go if it wants to be among the big boys in the long run.

Curious how Firmino was in the squad before coutinho was (Brazil squad that is) yet Firmino didn't even get on the pitch.

Who wants to bet he will play all 90 against USA? And then coutinho, who is suspended for our game against United, won't see a minute.

Also, Ed, not Liverpool related, but what was the deal with Sebastian giovinco? Was he wanted by European teams and still opted for Toronto? He is absolutely tearing up the MLS. It just seems strange that a player in his best years would opt for what is viewed as a place to go before retirement, that is assuming he had offers in Europe.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Giovinco looked at the available options and decided on the MLS. I can't answer why.}

06 Sep 2015 18:34:25
Tjred, I think you will find that coutinho wasn't called up for the squad, sounds daft but was omitted.

Agree1 Disagree5

06 Sep 2015 19:15:35
Tjred, A Thousand Apologies SIR, lfc website says he came on as a sub 67th minute against costa rica. Firmino was an unused sub. I have just disciplined by text the person who told me he wasn't in squad.

Guys, Coutinho did play in the game and came on as a substitute for Lucas Lima in the second half, against Costa Rica. Saw the game on tv. Played okay, nothing spectacular. Lima was far far better.

I also think Lucas Leiva was in the squad too. Can someone confirm or disprove this?

07 Sep 2015 09:47:44
No mate, Lucas Lima of Santos and Lucas Moura were in the squad. I don't think our Lucas has played for Brazil since a few friendlies under Scolari in 2013.

Coutinho was called up late to replace Oscar.

long time no post from me. Just wanted to say that the site is definitely improving, Ed001 and Ed002 (lovely lady ) are giving their comments exactly as they see it. no nonsense! Regarding the reds i'm probably like most old supporters, clearly something is not quite right. I love some of the players and especially the new arfivals Gomez(brilliant), Clyne( quality defender), Milner ( real pro, tough, dedicated), Benteke ( beast of a player, hard worker), Firmino ( skillfull, needs bit more time ), Ings ( i'm very impressed, a good player who will develop ).

We also have some other great players in Coutinho, Ibe, Can, Hendo. My real concerns are both Skyrtl and Lovren.its just not working and i'm not sure why.

Ive never been a great admirer of Brendan, but he's our manager so we will support him. He needed a few wise old heads alongside him and he has been given them. let's hope he learns from his mistakes. Still a great site Eds, keep up the good work.ps they've removed the shrapnel and i'm out of hospital and on the mend now :-)

Hi Tel welcome back buddy.I love reading your posts always on the button.I am still bewildered over Ilori going on loan.As Ed002 has said FSG made a mistake in the summer by not getting rid of BR.

Agree2 Disagree0

06 Sep 2015 13:40:22
Skrtel has never been good enough to be a top defender because he has no intelligence, composure or self control. Lovren on the other hand does seem to have lost the midas touch and seems hopeless, however i think he would play much better alongside sakho.

Agree8 Disagree4

06 Sep 2015 14:38:08
have to agree there Tel one of them has to be dropped next game Skrtel its like the jurys still out on him for me all the time he's been here I just feel there's a mistake not far away such as a clumsy tackle, shirt pull in the box, or wot ever . lovren seemed to start ok then forgot about basic defending and clearing his lines against hammers. I would drop skrtl though for sackho or toure.

06 Sep 2015 18:45:49
Thanks for welcome Barry. its a strange one with ILORI, i am assuming Brendan doesn't think he's quite ready just yet. Personally i don't think we can continue with our current two centre backs. For me, i would take the risk and try young Gomez alongside Toure, until he learns the ropes. Toure is an intelligent player who could benefit from having a fast young centre back beside him. he is prob the best player we have to help ease Gomez into that position. A good blend of youth and experience. We have a few players who could do the left back role until Joe settles in at Centre back.
What have we got to lose, the current choice is clearly not working, if he stays with Skirts n Lovren and we get tonked again, the crowd will be on his case big style, and quite rightly too.
Go on Brendan. be brave

Agree1 Disagree2

06 Sep 2015 20:09:15
Why not Sakho Tel?For me he has to be our first choice CB.

Agree7 Disagree1

06 Sep 2015 21:50:22
Agree with part of your post but this idea that BR doesn't think he's ready yet whereas it was he who bought him, does my head in Tel. He's been here for three years yet hasn't played a single minute for his club, all loans. Whey does that tell you about BR's ability to spot talent? It says that he has no idea what he's doing and is staunching players' careers as we speak. If Ilori isn't ready after three years, what does that say of the guy who bought him? I say, give him a chance because surely had can't be worse than Laurel and Hardy at CB currently, can he?

Agree4 Disagree0

07 Sep 2015 09:52:18
Lovren and Skrtel just don't work in our high-line system and never will. Ilori & Sakho would make a fine pairing for that system, we're definitely missing a trick there and I desperately hope somebody rectifies it. However, with Ilori's departure it appears we will have to suffer through another season of Skrtel fever.

Now that we're talking about it, can my avatar be approved please Eds? :)

For the second consecutive summer we had exactly 30 departures ( it's almost as though there is a plan ?? ). This time it was 12 permanent and 18 loans.

One name you never see mentioned is our left back, Brad Smith, an
England U20 international(3 caps)and a full international for Australia (4 caps). He played against Chelsea a couple of years' ago.

There were four empty spaces in our Premier League squad announced last week yet he never gets a mention in that or the underage squad. His profile is still on the club website.

Does anyone think I should ring the Missing Persons Bureau ?

I may know nothing bout footy. But does Shelvey look like he taking it all in his stride or what? Gutted he went. Never went missing I'd have him over Milner Hendo Can and the Pet any day

We couldn't offer him regular chances at the club, So he decided to move and did the right decision.
Our search for the next Alonso should have been over with Shelvey. BR kept Allen instead.

Ed1 - the story as I remember it was that Rodgers told Shelvey he didn't fit into his future plans. So what actually happened? Who decided he should move? Ta muchly.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Shelvey got told he couldn't be guaranteed a first team slot by us while Swansea were offering him first team football, so he asked to leave. It was his decision, the club wanted to keep him, as did Rodgers.}

07 Sep 2015 23:27:14
Shelvey made the right decision for him and look at him now. We should be proud a former red has done so well in such an admirable manner. doesn't mean we should plead him to return or point fingers as to why he left, the world doesntrevolve around us you know. We can't have everyone or keep everyone who plays well and then discard them when they dont.

Hi ed002,

I appreciate Liverpool aren't looking for a manager.

However there is a lot of debate and speculation around Rodgers' future at the moment but one thing that doesn't seem to be discussed too much is whether there is a viable alternative. I think your views are clear that Rodgers isn't the right man so was just wondering who you would want / could be realistic options.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - As I have explained before Liverpool missed an opportunity with Jorge Jesus being available over the summer. As I explained over the early summer - Liverpool take advice from third party advisors and I am aware of one name being suggested to MG as an option to BR (and I explained he was never going to be a viable option). I was also aware of the efforts of a "super agent" to try and foist someone else on the club - but by then Rodgers was clearly secure in his job. I am also aware of another name or two that will lurk in the background throughout the this season but there is no point getting in to any detail at this time.}

06 Sep 2015 10:53:34
I appreciate your concern regarding the well being of the club Jamesy, but as Ed'02 eluded to in his posts earlier that FSG are not interested in a mid season switch unless it is necessary.

Unless we are near the relegation zone during Christmas,I can't see a change because FSG have spent a lot of money again this season to play the way BR wants so I guess they'll continue.

Even if we do sack BR,Klopp is not going to become manager as people are dreaming of after what he has said today.

Again I'm not supporting BR,but after hearing out Ed 01 and 02 BR will remain for at least one season.

Cheers

We are not going to bring a new manger mid way through the season even if a calamity occurs.
But I am gutted we never went for Jorge Jesus in the summer. I thought he might not move out from Benfica.
BR ll keep the job till summer if not someone with in the coaching set up will take up if he gets the boots.

Ed02 if you are about, do you think the owners have taken poor advice so far, or have been caught up in the 2nd place finish? Am more then happy with their support so far, worry they underestimate the size of the job required at the club.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - There have been a number of poor decisions about personnel - Comolli, Dalglish, Rodgers etc.. Liverpool has also suffered with very poor media communication over several years. The whole Runt situation was mismanaged, Sterling made a joke of himself and the club, Balotelli was always going to be an accident waiting to happen and Rodgers has put his foot in his mouth every time he has opened it. Added to that there was the complete disaster of FSG's choice of Jen Chang. I should not really say this but within factions of the press, the current incumbent, Susan Black is seen as way out her depth.

As far as advice goes, it was proposed to change the manager this summer and a name was put forward. The decision was made, not directly by the owners, not to seek a change - that was a mistake in my view and that is where the club is right now.}

06 Sep 2015 09:40:53

My thoughts exactly, Ed. Ed01 said BR was kept because a lot of money had been invested in his tenure and to me, it seemed they weren't ready to cut their losses as other owners do in Europe. That is amen American owner's way of dealing with managers and their situations. BR only got a reprieve because of this and not because they thought he was competent which IMO, is an indictment on BR and his capabilities or lack thereof.

Agree0 Disagree3

06 Sep 2015 18:38:19
So by that analogy then Rodgers should be safe next season with the money he has spent and the owners invested this Summer? Makes no sense to me!
