To the guy to thinks Carroll is crap and want us to play "Carpet Football".

Arsenal plays your "Carpet Football" and how have they done? (Don't mention Barca, they're different class and in different league). And United don't always play "Carpet Football". We can also play the style you want us to play, and we have played last season against Manutd, Newcastle, Fulham, Birmingham and believe it or not also against City; with Carroll getting two goals. "Carpet Football" doesn't guarantee success and against team like Stoke, physical football is necessary. A team is perfect when they can play any type of football and can cope with any type of oppositions. Liverpool can play both, and Carroll can play both.

i'm hoping we sell ngog and then allow pacheco more 1st team games, pacheco would be able to play AML or AMR as he has done for spain under 20s, would be good in a 3 tier attack or just behind the striker. He's versatile and can pick out a pass and not bad at set pieces.

I honestly do not know what some of us fans expect from pre-season. The clue is in the title "pre season".... It means absolutely nothing... United won today so enough said
I watched the game yesterday and I have got to admit that I was worried by what I saw to be honest but then I remembered it was pre season.... I dont care if we had been spanked 10 nil yesterday because all that matters is when that whistle blows for the game next week against the mackems.
I expect johnson to be fit.... (the old "muscle strain" blag to get him off england duty) nice one kenny...
All I want from us this season is 100% commitment.... Make anfield a fortress by not giving the opposition a moments peace. And for me the most important thing is to not set any targets other than winning the next game.
P.s I would use the carling cup to play the youngsters as well.... But play them with the likes of suarez and gerrard etc and not the deadwood from our squad.

Just read a match report for the Valencia game. Commenting about the introduction of Lucas, is said:

Theres no difference in the team from the last 2-3 seasons, we need to go 2 up before the team settles, if we havn't scored within 20 mins you can see the confidence drain fro the team, the reaction when we concede is one of pure fright and I can't see that changing.

I agree with the ESPN commentary team on Saturday, they said that Liverpool were not at the standards of Man City, Man U or Chelsea but they believed that we can get the 4th Champions League spot from the Arsenal. Everyone keeps saying about the need for a new left back. I have always been a massive fan of Fabio's and as he says on the Liverpool website no European football will cater perfectly to him. He is arguably one of the best ball playing and creative full backs in the league. With fantastic vision, set pieces and crosses. I feel incredibly sorry for the guy as i really thought he was going to be the solution to our problems, he has been plagued with horrible injuries and comes back every time fighting for the team. Hopefully with fewer games he can keep himself fit and prove finally what a brilliant player he is. Thoughts?

Where are all the Liverpool fans who were talking about how brilliant Mata is and how we should sign him? Now that you've seen him play first hand and not in skilfully edited Youtube highlights do you still think he's a better player than Downing? I've seen this guy play for three seasons at Valencia and he is a good player but nowhere near 'great' He disappears during games and his best performances have always been against inferior opposition. I know a player shouldn't be judged on the basis of one performance but his contribution last night was fairly typical. So was Downing's. Who looked the better player?

It seems as if all LFC fans think we are taking at least a fourth place this year. I think we have are a long way from a good enough squad to reach the target in relation to our competitors. Our major deficiency in the squad's speed Without at least a top signing offensively with speed, such as Lennon or Hazard, it will be extremely tough. At the same time we are too weak backward. We need an CB and a LB to fight for the top four position.

And lets all pray too god that Suarez is fit for the whole season. He is our most important player if you ask me

KENNY please dont sign Enirque we have quality young players coming through (Flanagan Kelly Robinson, also aurelio is a quality player.
The money should be spent on CAHILL and SHANE LONG.
Only player we should sell is Ngog.
Aualiani starts in last friendly before season, STAYING? I think so. Good cover in midfield and will be good for giving gerrard rests.
Expect Pacheco to be in first team squad more often.

SSN reporting Arsenal may go for Mertesacker for £6m If true, Fantastic if seen quicker snails than him. It also means 1 less potential bidder in the races to sign Scott Dann and Gary Cahill reducing the chances of the price sky rocketing for either player.

Yesterday's clean sheet will be a great confidence boost to the whole team, not just the defence, and it couldn't have come at a better time.

The starting team yesterday was a strong one, and whilst Valencia looked very nice with some slick passing, I was very rarely worried. When you add the likes of Suarez, Gerrard, Lucas, Meireles, Skrtel to the mix for the starting line-up, things look very positive.

Just a point on the disappointing performance from Juan Mata, I don't think it was down to him being a poor player, but more to the fact that Martin Kelly is a really good defender. What I watched of the match, Kelly was dominant.

Not a rumour really, more a fact.
Was at Anfield, front row of main stand yesterday. YNWA was being sung and all the players were lining up and relaying orders etc. Kick off literally just seconds away.
Aquilani was turning around just about to change position a couple of feet. Catches the Kop in full song, flags out. I notices how he was frozen for a couple of seconds (mesmerised)as if to say "wow, just look at that".
Personally, it would be terrible to see him go. And whatever the side-issues, you could see he thought it is a wonderful place to play football. This guy works REALLY hard- always looking round, to make terrific visionary passes -like his backflick 1st touch of the match.

BTW, outisde of Luis and Aqua I think were certainly lacking in some magic.

Just to congratulate the whole team and the subs for yesterdays display. Glad Big Andy continued his goal scoring streak and looked like he's gonna hit the ground running in tip top shape. Lucas is the best holding midfielder in the Europe. Downing,wow,always said since we were linked with him what a top player he was but he's even better then i thought. Henderson never so as much ball on his side,partly because Downing was giving their right back nightmares but he never stopped working and running,and also kept the ball well and put in a Gerrard like ball that the big Fella gave him a clap for. Carra and Agger looked f***in solid, Agger's use of the ball is second to none,i think if you played him on the wing he'd whip better crosses in then most wingers in the Prem. Hope our Captain is making good progress and is back asap and Luis,well their's no more words that can describe him so i wont even try,well genius i'll try that for him. With all the talk of signing a new CB , a fully fit Danny Agger for the season would be as good a signing a new centre back.

Just a quick question Eds, on the Mireles/Aqualani, has the reason Aqualani played in all the pre season friendlies been the shop window effect and what's the situation with Mireles, injured, rested or not rated?

Also IMO I can't see us signing a 4th striker, Ngog maybe sold but I can see the likes of Morgan getting his chance and maybe Adam/Gerrard playing behind the front 2

I think the team as a whole were well drilled against Valencia.You could see the lads had worked hard on their defensive duties.I would still like to see us play higher up the pitch.I am not going into a debate on why we don't,because I'm not going to give the impression,that I am having a go at certain individual players.Every player who puts that shirt on needs our support, and I 100% back the team with my support and my money.And have done since 1977 (my first ever match.) I would like to see us get more pace at the back, as I wouldn't put any money on Agger staying fit all season.We are no way near the finished article,but Kenny will keep us in contention this yr, that I have no doubt about.

At last some positive posts about our players. But please dont start this who needs Mata we've got Downing when 90% of posters would have taken Mata all day over Downing. Slow with no technical ability were just 2 of the anti Downing posts. We've got a special player in Downing and he'll turn out to be worth everybit the 20mil or so we paid for him. Do you mean that we could be signing 2 new CB in Dann and Cahill or do you mean one ore the other. I also want to say KK IS RIGHT our new owners are TOP DOGS.... {Ed009's Note - I would suggest that it would only be one or the other I am afraid. I am not even entirely sure that we will sign any more player, but certainly not two centre backs. I believe there is a large chance Kelly will be played at centre back next season, and Wisdom will definitely get some game time.}

Here we go again Daniel Sturridge rumours start....because Chelsea have got Romelu Lukaku.....back me up Editors is it more realistic that Lukaku is coming in to replace maybe Anelka, who is 95 per cent certain he is surplus to requirements???
