hi loan signing for liverpool i think could be r old friend
nado and carroll loaned back to the toon i think chealsea will moses and hulk
wat do think
thanks

derryred

If all we do this summer is sell Carroll amd buy Torres, I would be a happy, happy, happy man.

Forget flakey Fernando Judas. Hope he stays a Casper striker.

Have you ever thought of going into football manager - loan a £35m striker to a rival. Great decision - NOT.

07 Aug 2012 23:02:56
My guess at prices for targets:
Sahin 10 million
Walcott 10 million
Tello loan
Dempsey 1 million plus Adam
Allen 12 million
That's optimistic though as we probably won't get all them.

Very optimistic. Apart from maybe Sahin I think every single one would cost more unfortunately.

And optimistic with prices id say.

It would be more like Adam + £6 million for Dempsey, or £5 million for straight cash :P

Or possibly not get any of them.

Not a rumour but just wanted to say I was on my bike in New Brighton today and saw Jay Spearing eating an ice cream with what looked like his family and a friend...and yes I know you all want to know it was mint choc chip

Clearly a wind up. Everyone knows wee Jay only eats strawberry.

Did he lick, bite or swallow whole?

According to a Twitter account claiming to be an agent (has got quite a lot of things right lately including Carzola). The replacements lined up for Agger may be perceived as a 'step backwards and may anger fans'. Oh God :/

KingRingPing

Oh god could be that ashley williams guy :(

He got one signing right. The rest?

The 'agent' is Dave Whelan. Again.

Just as long as it isn't Joleon Lescott.

Brian from Birmingham

Thinking about a song for Borini and I kinda like the Citeh song for Mancini but it would go

'Borini oooohhh oooohhh Borini ooooohhh ooooohhh!
He came from Italy!
To play for LFC
Borini oooohhh oooohhhh'

Don't like stealing songs but can imagine the Kop in full voice belting that one out!

RR!

Eds why should we keep a player made out of glass? He is a great player! But has never had a injury free season and our back up player is Carra which worries me! We have a chance to get 25 million and sure up our defence! If i was Gerrard i would be having a word with Rodgers and telling him to take the money and run! And sign Allen 15 million and kjaer 10 with the money! What do you think? 2 players for the price of one injury prone player makes sense!! {Ed001's Note - I would rather not buy anyone than buy Kjaer, why on earth people call for him I will never know. Awful player, who has been carried by Agger at international level for years. If we get over 25m though I would take it.}

Totally agree with the ed, wish you placed a agree with post or ed options or disagree etc lol

Ed001 finally! I've been telling people how bad Kjaer is for ages much rather give Coates a go with sama and wisdom back up!

Square tomato {Ed001's Note - I think people need to start watching him, he is terrible.}

Yes Ed someone finally realises why Roma dont want him!

Kjær is far from good enough for LFC. I am Danish, so I have seen him a lot. He is not that good with the ball and makes costly mistakes. Roma does not want him nor does Wolfsburg. Why on earth should we buy him?

Thanks Ed001 for saying that about Kjaer...the reason why at only 10m no big team wants him and that's because he's not good enough

Not even citeh would pay for Agger what we paid for Suarez. Then again, how much did Man Utd pay for rio back when?

Lets KEEP Agger now!

May be regarded as kidnap.
This should be avoided.

07 Aug 2012 22:01:04

Cavani will also defo come now too.

Can I just say that I informed you guys weeks ago of our interest in Nuri Sahin long before anyone else. I get a few tasty titbits that I share and lo and behold!, they sometimes come true!

Just passing on what Ive heard, BR has a definite interest in Nuri Sahin and the fact that he is close to Mourinho may or may not help the transfer if Liverpool decide to press ahead with the deal. Obviously the player will ultimately dictate his destiny but from what I can gather AC Milan and Bayern are in the box seats if he decides he wants to leave Real. But as I say from what ive been told from a Spanish soccer agent and he could possibly be spinning me a yarn we are definitely interested. Maybe a back up if Ramires falls through? Miami_Red

2 more player may join Suarez. Ramirez and Godin . both very good player too. it's a wish not news.

Will that make us Liverguay?

Hey, what's the possibility of signing Tello on a permanent transfer?
Apparently no loan as he has 1 year left, fits the bill as a young player with good potential resale value, knows the system and relatively low risk at a reported cost of only 7million. Also Rodgers speaks fluent Spanish and we have Spanish players/ spanish speaking influence already, we could be an attractive prospect for him.
IMO would be a decent signing in an area needed strengthening and I believe he can play across the front line too, please reply Eds. {Ed023's Note - I don't know mate, maybe he will sign a new deal with Barcelona when/if he signs with Liverpool on loan}

07 Aug 2012 22:15:38
hopefully something like this for next season and all realistic i hope!

renia
Johnson
Skertel
Agger
Enrique
Lucas
Allen
Gerrard
Wallcott
Suarez
Tello/sahin

Subs
Butland
Kelly
Coates
Henderson
Downing
Dempsey
Borini

Also in squad
Carragher
Robinson
Stering
Cole

Sell
Adam as part of dempsey deal
Spearing
Kuyt
Maxi
Fabio
Bellemy
Aquallani
Carroll
Doni
Jones

Why wouldn't you play borini? He clearly is the goal poacher in that list is ideally what Liverpool need! The one striker who runs through defence or is in the right place at the right time. We never had anyone but suarez to score and when he did score he created most of them himself

We have a great poacher in Morgan, if he's given the chance. Hopefully, with Europa league and Carling he might be and you might be very surprised...and pleased.

To put at rest all your stupid rumours of Suarez moving he today signed a new contract and wants to stay and lfc for as long as possible and is loving life here

Groundbreaking. What would we do without people like you who don't read the other posts?

If Luis is staying at us we will get striker tar Josh

Re. the major loan signing.
BR and Mourinho are close enough.

Clearly Mourinho wants to loan out Sahin for a season and has been quoted to the effect that he has a future at RM but not yet due to the players in front of him at the moment.

Or surely Kaka is a real possibility:
Kaka is on a huge contract that won't be matched anywhere else so difficult for RM to sell him, best chance is to loan him and split wages with the other club.
RM have said the Champions league is their priority so sending any player to another champions league team isn't in their interest.
Kaka needs to re-ignite his career and the challenge of playing in England for the first time and for a huge club (yes a huge club) like LFC with the style of play BR is known for and playing with Suarez and Gerard etc. might appeal to him.

Just thinking out loud

Fitzy

You werent thinkin out loud lad you were typing.

Kaka has said he's only joining the Brendolution if he and Lucas get a week off to meet the real Mickey Mouse in Disneyland.

Great news luis Suarez commits to the reds, I wonder what players he was told we are signing , to make him stay and sign a new long term contract. Let's hope he plays on Thursday can't wait to see him play in red again.

07 Aug 2012 21:47:02
The 1st Best Thing BR did is Keep Suarez for Long time. bring 2 more top class player we will be in no 4.

r-r

07 Aug 2012 21:34:23
Evening Ed, now that it looks like Suarez is staying I wonder if I can ask your opinion on how you think BR will shape the strike force, I'm assuming it'll be a 3 so I'm guessing Suarez will play slightly right but do you think Borini will play in the centre with a Dempsey (or similar) on the left or do you see Borini on the left with an out and out goalscorer coming in?
I won't hold you to anything

Chris in Tamworth {Ed023's Note - Hi Chris. I think BR wants options; pace & versatility in the final third which we haven't had in years. Judging by Macca's post our options could be: Suarez, Borini, Dempsey, Walcott, Tello, Downing, Sterling. What will be the starting 3? I assume it'll be Suarez and who knows lol which is a good thing because it keeps the opposition guessing, Liverpool over the years became predictable & I trust BR to change that. I'm excited for the new season and what BR will bring to us long term, I just hope he is backed and given time and I mean 3 to 5 years not 12 months.}

Well said Ed !! B

At last good news, Suarez is staying! Happy days. If I was BR this is what id be looking to do.. Suarez & Borini playing off Carroll..Gerrard & Sahin playing in front of Lucas. Agger & Skrtel and the width coming from johnson & Enrique. We need a playmaker and a player with pace and flair. Id love to see us sign Kevin Mirallas or Affelay. Roll on

How long did it take Jaundice Maureen and Sir Aloof Fuglyson to win a title in a top league from their first real gig? I don't mean Portugal or Scottish PL.

07 Aug 2012 21:33:25
Why are we looking at sahin? we have millions of cm's and are looking to bring in allen aswell! Whos leavin!?

Maybe because he is available and a real top player. I'm sure if we sign these two spearing and Adam will leave.

Adam and spearing hopefully

While we have more than adequate number of midfielders right now, I would assume that there will be some outs and also the ins to make sure each midfield role has cover i.e. give Lucas time and cover, cover for Stevie G as he wont play every game and then allowing for injuries, poor form, suspensions etc. At a guess.

Andy K

Adam and Spearing are likely to leave.

BthekingB

Aquilani, Adam and possibly Spearing.

Leaving us with Lucas, Allen, Gerrard, Sahin, Henderson and Shelvey/Suso for the midfield 3 positions.

SpudRed

Adam will be gone I think along with Spearing I think, which would leave us with (if all potential signings happen) Lucas, Sahin, Allen, Gerrard, Henderson and Shelvey. Strenght in depth and dare I say it the strongest center midfield in the league?? I can see rotation between Lucas, Sahin and Henderson with Allen and Gerrard playing more attacking roles. The potential combinations is exciting, if it all happens, with player different in style.

Ed's do you think Pacheco will be given a chance this year or is more likely to move on in this transfer window?

Jose wants stevie gee

07 Aug 2012 21:33:18
i have heard that BR wants more than 22m for daniel agger, if its true that'll be awsome coz i wasnt happy with the 20m.

kelly kelly

Not going to happen, hes off to london

Solid. Now, whos buying Carroll for 20m?

07 Aug 2012 21:24:06
i watched leandro damaio in a pre season tournament last year (think it was with milan and bayern if i remember correctly) and hoped that we held an interest in him back then, i actually got shot down by 1 of the eds (cant remember which 1) for asking about a player based on a couple of pre season games but i have to say i stand by what i said back then, he's looked quality in the Olympics, 2 good goals again tonight, would love to see him in red next season could be every bit as good as Cavani or Higuain and probably at far less cost and more to the point probably an achievable target if we were interested

ps eds that wasn't a dig at you's or anything, love the work you do :)

He's apparently turned down three to four offers in order to join spurs!

07 Aug 2012 21:20:08
Tottenham offering around 15m for Damiao.. At 15m would be a great investment. Any truth to this offer and any Liverpool interst? {Ed023's Note - As far as I know Spurs have a long term interest in Damiao, not to sure Liverpool have an interest}

As soon as the olymic football is over he will be joining spurs!

Great work by Spurs...one of the best signings...we didn't really have a chance of signing him anyway...

07 Aug 2012 21:18:00
Hi eds appreciate all your work.
Rumour is sahin (as I predicted last week) and afellay will both sign on loan. Whilst tello will only join if a transfer can be agreed as barca want a permanent deal. De Vries will follow as long as doni and Jones are offloaded which seems likely. Dempsey is becoming increasingly unlikely Liverpool have made a take it or leave it which Fulham have rejected but Rodgers hopes they will change their mind before the end of the window. Carroll will also stay unless Newcastle return with a better offer. Walcott is a genuine target but queresma is certainly not. A few players will also leave the club Adam is one but sprearing will remain for Europa and cup only and is happy with this.

Thanks

Puzzled red

07 Aug 2012 20:58:22
hi eds swansea now saying allen will cost 20 million or more i dont see us following up our interest do you ?kyle {Ed023's Note - I wouldn't believe those comments as such Kyle mate. Remember Fergie said he wouldn't sell to the virus that was Real Madrid? It will happen mate}

07 Aug 2012 20:12:37
Hey Ed's i was just wondering what your personal opinion of Walcott is?

I always liked him as a player. but i went to school with him so i'm biased. He never had a football brain really.. never was the brightest but he always seemed to deliver under pressure when he had to act instantly.

Don't know.. I hope a change in manager and scene would get the best out of him. (Of course i'm assuming he does sign, probably one of the few that does.)

Secondly, sorry for my little rant, do you have any idea (even if just educated) on the price (For him) and the wages he would want?

Thanks Etch {Ed023's Note - He would add pace to the side - if he came I would support him like any other Liverpool player BUT he would not be my preferred choice}

As crap as some on here think he is, he scores goals when the form hits and as long as he's not our only option up front (i.e we have Suarez, Borini, Dempsey, Tello and Walcott to fill the front 3 with pacy options and picked on form) then I honestly think he would be a great signing for us, at the correct price and wage.

SpudRed

Theo is Babel v2.1. Potentially a high minutes-to-goal ratio off the bench.

07 Aug 2012 19:19:42
I've just read on BBC that Arsenal signed Cazorla for less than 15 million. He can play either flank and at 27 quite a reasonable price.

Ed can you confirm if we actually made any enquiries about him? Would have been a wise piece of business if we landed him.

Jonesred {Ed023's Note - No contact was made. Champions League football I would assume was his preferred choice}

07 Aug 2012 18:23:34
Eds is there any confirmed interest in either, Deigo Godin or Mbiwa of Montpellier. Both are very decent players and in my opinion adequate replacements for Agger. Only reason i ask is iv seen these names mentioned a lot over the last 24 hours. cheers Jamie {Ed023's Note - Just paper talk for now Jamie}

They would be a better replacement for Skrtel than agger

07 Aug 2012 21:14:29
Turkish football website reporting that Quaresma has been left out of pre season training

If we do sign quresma I'm sure I'm not the only one that knows he's got talent but a bad attitude also. The reason he didn't get a game in euro 2012 is due to his attitude. He completely plays for money and I doubt that will change even at a club for of love like Liverpool. He could of been a star but never established himself properly.

07 Aug 2012 21:12:27
Suarez remains our true and after Gerrard our only world class player. Losing him would have been disastrous. And yes I salute BR for having convinced Luis about his project and targets in the market.

Skrtel Agger Lucas Reina but yh I know what you mean the only one worth 30m+

The only one that can currently win us matches.

07 Aug 2012 21:11:06
Now that we can safely say suarez is staying (fantastic news) how do you think the partnership between him and fabio Borini will be? I personally think they compliment each other excellently. Hopefully get a couple of pacey wingers who can deliver and score goals and we are looking a strong team. Obviously he wanted champions league football. But Arsenal are getting a player in Santi Cazorla! exactly the kind of player we need.great signing for them. cheers

Danny

Cazorla is quality, but they will have no-one of Suarez' ability next season!

BJH YNWA (Nice signing though - but we can take them!)

07 Aug 2012 21:00:00
Just wondering as we are showing an interest in more homegrown players (Walcott and Allen namely) could this signify a sale of a few of our homegrown players (Spearing,Adam etc;) and we are looking to fulfil the quota by reinvesting In more homegrown talent?
Could be an answer as to why we aren't after foreign talents as much as some fans like?

07 Aug 2012 20:27:11
just a question
what are the rules on a player buying out his last year of his contract
surely dempsey can buy out his contract for 2/3 million and move to us as a free agent

Article 17 of FIFA's Regulations for the Status and Specifically, it states that any player who signed a contract before the age of 28 can buy himself out of the contract three years after the deal was signed. If he is 28 or older the time limit is shortened to two years.[10][11] Article 17 was introduced in December 2004, with effect from 1 July 2005.

So why hasn't Van Persie and Ibrahimovic done this? The Italians a dodgy enough for this sort of thing surely they would have done this with Van Persie by now...

Dunno if that's true, but would he want to leave Fulham in bad light losing them money?
TT

07 Aug 2012 19:51:19
Any chance to get John Guidetti, he looks well built and strong. Can finish of chances, and can take penalties.
Also any news on Carrol - possible clubs that are interested??

07 Aug 2012 18:26:28
Any news on the Mexican Marco Bueno? Wat do u reckon are Pacheco's chances being sold irrespective of the fact he did well in the friendlies?

07 Aug 2012 20:52:26
Just wanted to say brilliant news on Suarez... Now let's forget about selling skrtel and agger, they want to stay!! We have lost so many big players over the last few years who didn't want to play for us. Please let's not force out good players who don't want to leave!!
Come on lfc keep skrtel agger and Carroll and add a decent playmaker to help Stevie and Lucas and lets get behind our team and buy into Rodgers ideas..... Keep the faith br will lead us to the promised land ynwa

Agreed with everything but the Carroll bit...I'm sorry but if we can get 15m for him and replace with Walcott + Affelay/Tello/Sahin on loan I'm a very very very very very very very very very very very very happy man!

07 Aug 2012 20:02:35
hello Ed's much appreciated if answered! Thank you in advance. With Suarez signing a new contract will this fend off interest from other clubs?
Redmanluka {Ed049's Note - We will receive offers from other clubs, it will be down to the management whether to entertain them or not.}

Mankini at the Brazil Korea game... Any centre backs possible from the game. Don't want agger to go. Top quality player.... sounds like he loves the team... Years left In him. Why would we sell? We are not a feeder club are we ?

Suarez signs new deal at Liverpool! Basically a new signing. I have also heard that Kaka is officially the major loan star.

Scottish Red

It will be Tello!

No it is not like a new signing ! it's good news that he is staying and it shouldn't have come as a relief because after 18 months he shoudn't have been going anywhere anyway ! a new signing will come in the form of a player who signs from another team ! THAT is basically a new signing

07 Aug 2012 20:35:07
Not a rumour, just an observation from here in Germany. They way we are doing business, trying to get less well known players from lesser clubs, reminds me of the way we used to work. Not going out and buying the best, but buying future talent and nurturing it.

German Red.

Yes players from smaller clubs like Carroll from Newcastle, Henderson from Sunderland, Downing from Aston Villa, Adam from Blackpool...they al, worked out so well.

if we buy ramirez allen sahin wallcott godin butland i can finally see us winning the title

strikers:carrol borini suarez morgan

mid:allen gerrard henderson adam sahin allen ramirez downing sterling lucas shelvey

defenders: enrique agger godin coates flanagan
enrique johnson kelly robinson carragher

keepers: reina butland

this squad would be far more superior than the current level we are at now {Ed049's Note - I wouldn't so far as to say that we'll win the league, Top4 Possible}

You bought Walcott then didn't use him

Wallcott to play where?

07 Aug 2012 20:26:09
I see that everyone has jumped for joy with Suarez re-signing!
How about some congratulations and respect for BR. Do you think that a top proffesional would stay on if they thought they would be managed by a monkey! And it has been said that FSG were selling off all our best players!
BR & FSG I salute you! The proffesionals seem to realise your talent and what you can do for LFC!
To all the BR and FSG Bashers out there get lost and support citeh and chelski!

Just want to say thanks to Ed002 for keeping us in touch with the Suarez situation throughout the summer. Yes he MIGHT be staying now, but without ed002 telling us the reality of the situation, we'd have known sweet FA. So thanks, Ed.

The reality of the situation was Suarez signed a new contract. Anyone would have know there was interest in Suarez from top clubs. Credit to ed002 for other issues but he got the Suarez one wrong. Has to admitt it but no disrespect. {Ed023's Note - No he didn't. He stated he COULD leave not that he WOULD leave. Juventus were preparing an offer and other clubs were interested that's all he said.

Not negative or anything but didnt i read one of the eds saying suarez will leave? Or did i get it wrong?
HARDY1892 YNWA

Suarez can still leave it will just be for a higher price and not on his terms as much.

07 Aug 2012 18:23:28
Could it be that we r targeting sum mexican, japan or korean players (brazilians too expensive for us)? is that the reason we still havent bought anyone other than borini? {Ed049's Note - No that's because Rodgers was keen to access his squad before making decisions in the transfer market.}

07 Aug 2012 20:23:17
Hey fellow reds great to see all the optimistic fans now that Suarez has signed a new contract... IMO this is better then any signing we could have made in this window and I cant get the smile of my face all day and this will really show all those Stupid utd, chelsea and city fans that playing for liverpool means more then just a big pay cheque... Even writing this post im swelling up I LOVE this club more then words can describe and so do the players who pull on the red shirt I cant wait for the season to start....

Just out of curiosity if you read my post
Agree=Good season ahead
Disagree=Still tink rodgers is small time and we will finish mid table

A very happy and emotional

Hello there Kopites...

Im no in the know, but after the fantastic news of Suarez signing a new contract, i wonder if his international team mate Ramierz may now join us as well?

Would be great to keep Agger and i believe we will and hope we keep Carroll as well. Would love to see Wallcot come in. Also exciting of these two loan players as well. Its all good and positive for me.

We shall see, nothing has happened yet.

Wouldn't mind adding a few Uruguayans to keep him happy- Gaston Ramorez, Abel Hernandez, Diego Godin, Alvaro Pereira etc...

Brilliant news on Suarez

Some posters were worried that when he had a go a man utd recently that he was angling for a transfer away from England. Now it's clear he just hates them and has committed to BR's project to put LFC back on top......class

I doubt we will get tello on-loan seeing as he is in the last 12 months of his contract with barca

Even though this website is just about Suarez at the moment its so nice just to see good comments woo good times ahead {Ed049's Note - Seriously}

What a difference a signature makes:-)

A signature of a player who was on a five an a half year contract that was signed 18 months ago, so basically nothings changed but his money has gone up, speculation that was plucked out of thin air that he was leaving because basically...he wasn't !

Any news on Dempsey (ed45 thanks josh {Ed049's Note - Like Macca said , it's on going.}

07 Aug 2012 20:14:33
Can I ask why we are supposedly signing de vries as back up goalie? He's 31, second choice at WOLVES and is another player who worked under BR, is it due to low transfer fee and wages in comparison to Jones and Doni or what?

I find it strange that BR is currently linked with alot of his former players.

He's better than Doni and Jones, his wages are much lower than the combined ones of them two, if we sold them too and got him we'd probably make a £1m ish profit...how many reasons do you want?!

Being linked with his former players shows no imagination, its lazy journalism. meaning they have no clue who we`re being linked with so the logical choice is to name players who have worked under BR.

On my return from hol in majorca this is the best piece of news about Suarez today of the summer for me. With Ed2's comments over the last few months I couldnt rest easy on my sunbed for the last 2 weeks............
Hopefully Brendan has informed Luis of the incoming transfers & along with his contract this has been major factor in his decision.
Would like to see any new signings in place by the 18th as its imperative we get off to a good start & BR gets the backing, to try & stop the negative stuff the "trolls" keep posting on this great site. Here's hoping anyway.
Cant wait to see the boys back in action on Thursday.

Thanks for letting us know u were on holiday it means a lot {Ed049's Note - haha don't be mean}

I hope Agger does not leave but what would ye prefer if he does go.. 22+ mill or Adam Johnson plus some cash? Very surprised Mancini does not want Johnson, City are close to signing Scott Sinclair apparently as a replacement.
The Gooch

Just cash.
TT

If we do sell agger to city, they arnt going to give us 22m, and a player, get real. Jonny71

It says 22 million or Johnson + money
Jamesy

^^^^^ if they don't, were not selling :)

20m with adebayor on loan with 50% wages paid by them.
AnfieldUSA

He didn't say that, he said 22+ mil OR Adam Johnson.

There is an or in between, so the question was 22m or player plus cash, if I've read it right. I don't think the person was suggesting 22m plus player.

If dagger doesn't want to go to Citeh then thats more reason to keep him! Why get rid of a great defender who doesn't want to go!

NS

Not to city but if Barca come knocking would he stay ? Problem is Barca will not pay what city would for him.

Not too many teams would play what citeh would. Mostly because we have to charge clubs that will directly compete with us more than non-Premiership clubs but because the Citeh boys make it rain.

- Logic

Agreed that Barca wouldn't cough up the same cash as Citeh...but 10m + Tello perm. and Affelay on loan?

Anyone who has watched the Olympics, can envisage my reaction to Luis signing a new deal by watching the discus and shot put athletes when they 'war cry' after the throw!

i dont think we will get allen. he has great potential but i think will buckle under the pressure and when watching him i dont think he offers himself up for the pass he seems to hid from the passing player and all great play makers are eager to get on the ball allen seems to lack that but he is still young but thats just what i think.. sahin would be a mile better option but its all down to price an wages i hope we get sahin we need instant class because the top 4 are pulling out in front with some class signings but i think one or 2 world class additions an we will be up there

adamlfc

I'm sorry but I totally disagree with your comments about Allen. The one thing I have picked up on when watching him play is that he is always making himself available to be passed to.

Last season he passed the ball on average nearly 60 times each game. You do not have the ball at your feet that often if you're not moving to receive the ball.

JRG

I understand what you mean . I know spearing isn't LFC first team standard ( yet ) but the thing with him is he doesn't hide if you watch he is always wanting the ball . If BR can work on his passing style I think he could be a very worthy understudy to Lucas . Just an opinion .

Cheers
Jamesy

During the olympics I seem to recall Allen making himself available for the pass often

Look why do people keep saying we will sign Sahin he is moving to Arsenal!

I've had the same thoughts Adam. I got mocked this time last year for saying Carroll hides. Carroll did it by coming behind defenders and tried out jumping them from behind rather than getting across the defender. However he did improve as the
season unfolded. Allen hides in the way you've described but so did Lucas and look at the player he is now.

Ozone

Sahin will be going on loan.im pretty sure they would prefer him to go to a club that wont be a threat to them in the cl. also under a coach like BR instead of some miserable old t***.

Cudge

07 Aug 2012 19:55:27
Hi eds . Do you think Suarez has signed his new contract because he knows who we are signing ? surly BR has spoken to him about players coming in .

Cheers
Jamesy {Ed049's Note - Possible, he has mainly signed the contract because he is happy at the club }

Hopefully he knows Ramirez is on his way!
TT

Sorry eds I agree with you on that one but think it could have been the icing on the cake that's all .

07 Aug 2012 19:45:19
Just a thought I know it's unlikely but if we do get 22 million for agger what about a cheeky bid for vermaelen? Paisley's genius {Ed049's Note - why waste our time?}

A player that gets injured more than Agger, that makes sense...
Skurks

I can see what you're saying, there is a kind of likeness in style but Vermaelen plays about 3 games a season, his injury record is worse than Aggers!

How about Raul Albiol ? Doesn't play much for Madrid and shouldn't cost too much.

07 Aug 2012 19:49:54
He scores a goal and The Kop goes wild and i just can't seem to get enough of Suarez :-) Redevon

07 Aug 2012 19:45:16
a lot of people on this site slag off theo walcott saying all he has is pace and no final ball.last season he scored 11 and had 12 assists which is a hell of a lot better than a certain player we have in a similar position.we could do worse.in my opinion for the right price he could do a job for us

I agree. I think he'd do well at Anfield.

07 Aug 2012 18:28:41
Hi Eds, Maybe being bombarded with this, but with Suarez signing a new contract in August can I safely say that he is staying? Ed002 has never seemed to think so. Will Juventus be bidding anyway?

Thanks {Ed049's Note - It's safe to say he'll be staying.}

What do u think on Walcott 15 10m for me thanks josh {Ed049's Note - anything below 15million would be a good business considering the fact that he is in his final year of contract.}

To be fair - Ed002 reservations were reasonable.

I was a little worried myelf there too.

LFC offering Suarez a new deal when his deal still had 4 yrs to run shows that they must have had a few worries about him getting 'itchy feet' too.

I'm delighted about it though. A real pleasant surprise.

Suarez has shown a lot of character in committing to the club - I'd imagine he could move somewhere else with nicer weather, where he get's paid more - and is not be subject to verbal abuse every other week.

That would be the easy way out - and you couldn't really blame him if he did move.

But he stayed for us.

Suarez now has the opportunity to be a real legend. Both a great character - who has shown his loyalty - and a great player.

Ecstatic that he's in our team for a few more years yet.

Yesssssssssssssss!!! I'm almost as excited as when we first signed him!

guys do u notice that the liverpool players are fighting to play for liverpool carrol agger and then suarez sign a new contract i thinks this could be a good season love these guys but if carrol leave will we replace him with a top striker

It's a tactic by Rodgers to see who really wants to stay and who he can move out...Suarez, Carroll and Dagger digging in their heels...Skrtel and Reina a little too quiet...

07 Aug 2012 19:34:19
Hi guys/gals/eds If we sign any really decent midfielders it would make sence to loan out henderson & shelvey to a side that plays decent football I dont think we are yet in a position were we can wait for players to reach their potential while playing in the first eleven,if such arrangements were made they could always return in january especialy if they were showing some vast improvement, also please get shut of the players who are just not good enough most of us know who they are lets hope the new management do.SIGN dempsey sure hes getting on in years but if he helps us get where we want to be quicker he would be worth the investment, and lets sign a top notch midfielder to supply the amo for those up front.(godin

07 Aug 2012 19:28:13
Well done FSG for getting Suarez to sign a new contract, he is committed to the cause and the owners have shown they are willing to back BR. I expect Agger to be sold and hope Allen signs for 15m. I would like Carroll to stay because he has the talent to get better and justify his price tag, that we sign a striker and a creative midfielder/winger (one on loan) and a defender to replace Agger should he leave.
That would give the confidence levels a boost.
McB

Agger dont want to go to city

The owners arnt stupid. They know that Suarez can atract potential targets, without him we are just an average joe mid table club

07 Aug 2012 19:27:19
Why would they loan us Tello when he's in the last 12 months of his contract?

Edd do u think that the owners ain't goin to spend a penny this season? Only on sales. The borini money came from the mieriles sale. What's ur thoughts? Thanks. {Ed019's Note - They will spend money, they spend everyday on LFC}

As in transfers Edd?

Surely Meireles money merely offset the millions we spent on Henderson, Downing, Coates & Adam?

Top four spending to finish 8th so we won't be doing it again. Why are people bothered about the break up of a team than finished 6th, 7th and 8th?

PieInTheSkyMan

Net spend tho was around 30 so bugger all really !

To sign a new contract with Liverpool is unbelievable for me because I am so happy here at both the club and also in the city," Suarez told .
"That is important for me and I am very happy with my new contract.
"When you are a kid, everybody wants to play for Liverpool. I am here now and it is a dream for me, and now I am a Liverpool fan.
"I am happy off the pitch because the people of Liverpool are good with me and my family.
"I try my best on the pitch and when you are happy off the pitch, you are happy on the pitch.
"I want to say thank you to the fans because they are our 12th player. The supporters of Liverpool are unbelievable.
"Five or six years ago I watched on TV the stadium and the club, and now I play here and the supporters have helped me. That's very important for me."

Right time for a change of subject...am I the only one that notices Liverpool get an astonishing amount of corners and free kicks but hardly ever score from them? I can't remember the last player to score a direct free kick for us. If we sorted it out we would score a lot more goals and kill those games we normally can't, I mean to put it into perspective I don't think carroll has scored from a single corner yet in his time so far, yet its meant to be his biggest asset. Also last season we had 309 corners , which I think yielded 6 goals...

gh*lfc

He has against everton fa cup semi final, but I have to say we do need to work on set pieces as only gerrard has scored directly from a free kick last year.

It helps if your corners and free kicks actually get past the first defender. Would love to know our stats at actually doing so. In general, our delivery on set pieces was woeful.

I think it was Skrtel vs Aston Villa at Villa park . Carrol's semi final goal was from a free kick .

this place should be buzzing today. we more or less got the best news we could have all summer! LUIS SUAREZ! YNWA

You read my mind. Just as I scrolled to your post.

I'm not like the doom mongerers who constanly attack FSG with erroneous
statements, half-truths and outright bol*ocks.

- but I'm on record saying that if we sold Suarez, that it would have me genuinely worried about the direction we're taking. Suarez is special, he is the type of player that can make us a force again.

This is a great statement of intent.

The signing of the summer.

If Agger stays too, I'll dance a jig!

BJH YNWA

ps - He deserves the pay rise - he is, imo one of the best footballers in the world.

Jovanovic, Cole, Aquilani etc are not.

I hope the culture of financial stupidity at our club is over once and for all.

Well done Rodgers, FSG and Suarez.

Fantastic news! Now get us some players, god damnit!

07 Aug 2012 18:13:13
If suarez has signed then this shows what he thinks of the club and shows the character of the man to continue playing in England even though he gets booed all the time. Shows he wants to make ammends and give back to the club. I for one think this shows what a class act he is and we should be proud of him and continue to support him.

Cheers
Neilp

I think it also shows he wants to win the premiership and stick it to old trafford.

If he wanted to win the premiership he sure as hell wouldn't have stayed at Anfield

Oh where are all these Brendan's small town FSG are useless fans now Suarez has signed and I fully expect skrtl to probably on the citeh page.If Danny agger goes so what if we get 24 mil out of a one season man and sign ramierez or munain I'd be happy.
Scouse Ben

07 Aug 2012 18:16:17
Suarez signing a new contract is like a new signing in itself. If he is indeed been offered more than what torres was on at our club, it shows FSG do not want to sell him. Kudos to them. Luis is a true legend who has put aside his personal problems for our club. Witha couple of smart signings like sahin on loan, possible tello etc we might actually get top4. Keeping my fingers crossed agger stays as well.

Can I just ask why are we selling to buy - why would we sell a fantastic defender like Agger - sends out a terrible message to our competitors - why are we turning into a selling club?

Hessle Red {Ed001's Note - because he is injured far too often.}

Surely if he was injured far too often then nobody would buy him, or nobody with any sense

07 Aug 2012 17:59:29
Okay lets clear some things up -

Quaresma- Rumoured interest in him for the right wing position is because we need a right winger, besiktas have financial issues and the press need something to talk about. I wouldn't worry too much until an actual bid materialises. At 29 years, he's a little past his peak and has shown to be a big disappointment in the past (spells with Barca and Chelsea weren't great).

Kjaer - Kjaer fell out with his parent club wolfsburg whilst on loan at Roma, he impressed in Poland and Ukraine and is a suggested target for if Martin Skrtel departs for Manchester City as he has played with Agger in the Danish national setup and it is proved that they've worked well together.

Suarez - Luis Suarez is SET to sign a new contract, until it is offically confirmed we can still be a little irate about the confirmed Juventus interest, but I expect him to sign without any hiccups in the deal.

Ramirez - Gaton Ramirez is a playmaker, a young player and a prospect for the future, we're only hesitating on the bid because of our reputation of spending big money on "flops". Downing was on and off last term, Big Andy wasn't great but he's showing signs of improvment and Henderson and Adam were poor throughout last season. The money they want for Ramirez could enhance this reputaion if he doesn't perform but personally I think he will. An adaptable young lad can play up front, both wings or just off the striker. He'd be a clever signing.

Dempsey - Dempsey clearly wants a move out of Fulham (Liverpool his prefered destination) but Roma look 90% certain to make a bid for him as again, we're stalling over the price. Dempsey could be the goal threat that our threadbare attack was missing last season and would be an extremley clever buy, but if it takes 10 months of waiting for his contract to expire then I think we'll wait.

Sahin & Kaka - both rumoured loan signings, for starters DON'T EXPECT BOTH (if either of them). There's a lot of media hype surrounding this because Rodgers has a good relationship with Mouriniho ect, but both are at the club that is the Spanish Title holder, why would they take the step down to Europa league when Arsernal and Manchester United are interested in Sahin and Milan are hoping for a romantic reunion wit Kaka. Ambitious signings, but both would help to change the team.

Sakho - doesn't want to leave, won't leave, forget it.

Walcott - all pace and no brain. Said it before and I'll say it before he's awful. Pacey and can dribble but when it comes to the final result then he can't produce.

Allen - another price-staller. Unless we offer either Spearing, Shelvey or Adam (loan or otherwise) in return plus a bit of cash we won't get him, Swansea rate him far too high (price to quality) for my liking and we should give in a revert to chasing either Ramirez or Sahin.

Affely - Favours a move to either Inter Milan or the Gooners.

Sorry for any mispellings, this is my opinion mixed in with the facts, ED's your opinion would be valued, cheers.

RedBrad1997

Anyone that says Walcott has no final product is an person. In terms of goals and assists he would be without peer in the Liverpool team

Not a roumour but a question about our sponsorship. with the bad publicity surrounding oud sponsors today, could or would the club cut its ties with standard charterd. was it not these who thretend lfc over the suarez saga? I think their frudulant antics are a lot worse.

Where will the club stand if this is proven?

Thanks for the great work

Hi, my mate is a business man and was flying out of Boston for Miami on business. On his flight (American Airlines 1955) was none other than John Henry. He asked him about our transfers but Mr Henry just tapped the side of his news and smiled. When they disembarked at Miami my mate headed out but Mr Henry headed for international transfers where my mate spotted on onwards connection to Montevideo. Make of that what you will. He did say that Mr Henry's smile was very telling though!!

Congratulations, by far the worst post of the week! keep up the good work :)

Tapped the side of his news. What does that mean?

Not sure if i'm correct, but I thought Ian Ayre or other people did all the transfers, not the owners themselves, surely Mr Henry has more to do with his time, and as someone with limited football experience would rather send an employee who is actually experienced and knows how to deal with transfers?

Love the rumour , but Henry doesn't do the transfers himself...

And i always thought Mr. henry must be having a private jet. how naive of me!!

Any chance of Adam Johnson coming back with some ash for Agger? Is there any interest in Johnson?

Some ash hey!! Lol I wondered why our transfers take so long to complete! All our bigwigs are wasted! Lol! Quality! Thanks for clearing that up! Lol

If Liverpool do sign Walcott, do you think he'd be used as a striker or as a winger?

He is way too over-rated.
FowlerGod.

My belief is he'd start out wide but would be used as striker in some instances, as Rodgers likes players who are versatile, and as part of the front three he would be more of an inside forward I believe? And this would surely be closer to playing the central role he craves..

In a 4-3-3 system how many wingers are there

On the right of a front 3 most likely.

Right side of three forwards , but licence to move around

If he signs, and I can't see it - just a feeling, I'd prefer him in the front 3 with Suarez and Borini.

Cuchulainn's Hounds

If you look at the Spain and Barca model that Brendan prefers, the front are not fixed. Only on paper in the starting lieup are they given positions. They will swap places all the time to confuse defenders. That's why Andy Carroll, in my opinion, won't feature too much. He doesn't have the movement for the style that Brendan wants to play.

If luis Suarez has signed an extension to his contract then this guy is well on his way to been a legend. He will be booed at every away ground but not at the one that matters. If I'm honest I wouldn't of blamed him for trying to force a transfer as it looks bad for the next few weeks but perhaps that could change things like maybe Ramirez etc might join.

07 Aug 2012 17:11:31
If there is genuine interest in Walcott then i do hope that it is not to use him as a winger. He is not a natural winger, he is a striker and that is where he wants to be played.
When he plays on the wing, the only asset he has is pace. He doesn't have a trick and is not a natural crosser of a ball.
LFC need a winger (or maybe 2). The solution, in my humble opinion would be to BUY A WINGER!! None of this, buy a striker and stick him on the wing (a la Kuyt). Square pegs in Square holes, not square pegs in round holes.
Having said that, he has never actually proven himself as a decent striker, but he has yet to be given the chance.
I am therefore puzzled by the interest in him - anyone else see any logic in the supposed interest?

Possibly to play on the right of a front 3 where he played last season and got 11 goals and 14 assists!

I think it's his versatility, he can produce on the wing, and wants to play upfront and has qualities, Arsenal are also a passing team so a passing style could be easier to implement on him, along with his support of Liverpool comes a desire to play for the shirt, something fans and hopefully Rodgers value.

If we buy him (I'm not convinced we will, I believe there is interest yes but I think we will end up with another winger.) I would think he would be on the right wing but used like dyer at Swansea, ie no crosses and more like a striker playing a bit wider.
I wouldn't be too disappointed if we signed him but I imagine there are better options out there for us.

Hearing Suarez will be paid £109,000 a week for the next 5 and a half years.

Worth every penny

Deserves it. That wage should only be given to top players though.

And he is worth every penny

And worth every penny of it.

Anyone know if martin kelly is being groomed to play centerback? If we sell skrtle or agger I would feel better with him out there than slow carragher or coates.

Kelly first started to play center back then got brought in to play right back, where he has done extremely well for us. I can see him playing there but i'd rather have him on the right.
FowlerGod.

Not sure about 'groomed' to my knowledge he can play there and is comfortable there, don't think he'd need to be 'groomed' as such, maybe just a bit of game time to be fully used to the role?

A good CB has the versatility to play anywhere across the back, young prospects often build positional and offensive experience out there.
Kelly, Coates future spine.

Thinking of going to the friendly on Sunday, who do you think will be in the team?

Cheers

GazRed YNWA

A Gk, defenders, midfielders & maybe a couple of strikers + plus numerous subs...........

What kind of question is that? Perhaps you should ask Brendan!

I think a mix of reserves and first team players, I guess it is a 'prestige' friendly? And Rodgers will want to see who is in his plans etc; and it will be a chance for Euro players or Olympic players to play if they don't on thursday, or to increase game time.

Everyone will get a go

If everyone gets a go then I am bringing my kit....!

hi eds just wondering if the nuri sahin rumours are true surely him and joe allen would meanway too many centre midfielders in the squad

cheers

Not if Adam, Shelvey,(loan)and Spearing, leave, they're not.

Plus Aquilani already gone.

People seem to forget we have the BPL,Europa,Carling and FA Cup, Gerrard is old, getting hindered by injuries, Lucas is only just back, several could leave, some might not be deemed good enough, not sure we do have enough.

Funny how this site is "Rumours" yet when people tell us the "rumours" they hear they get sot down by the doom mongers.......
Somebody posted yesterday that there would be good news (not a signing) coming out of Anfield today and they got abused! Seems to me they were spot on. Well done whoever you are.

Eds please post.

I thought exactly the same mate, whom ever it was yesterday that made that statement got it spot on.

Allens valuation has somehow now gone up to 20 million. Surely this now ends our interest in the player?

There's now way he is worth that much and we would be fools to pay that amount for him.

They can't demand £20 million for him when there's a clause in his contract that he can go for £15 million?!

Hello, ed's and fellow kopite's,

This post is not about our possible transfer's (in's or out's), it is about all of the glum LFC fan's who seem to think we are going down hill.
Firstly when the new owner's came LFC where going downhill, and Roy Hodgson was not the manager for us. He had bought some dreadful player's and we had lost the likes of alonso, mascharano and other great player's.
How ever our new owner's had noticed what was going on and brought it the King to his rightful throne( if the owner's were Hicks and Gillett the would of had just let us go down hill with Roy). The owner's appointed the best manager available at the time, Not tactic's wise but was the best man to do what he did when our great club was going through a very rough time and that was to unite all of us and refresh our hope's of being great again. His first six month's were a dream for everyone who was a liverpool fan, we played nice football, scored goal's and looked happy for the first time in 2 year's. We lost Torres and with is money we bought a gem in suarez and at the time and in my opinion a greay player with potential in carroll. However Kenny had only had the job for a temporary basis for 6 months but all the fan's who called for his head 3 months ago wanted him to be offered a long term contract which he did and we were happy with the decision.
The transfer window opened we signed Downing, Henderson, Adam, Doni, Bellamy, Enrique and Coates. We also lost Meireles to chelsea.

The season was not the best of season's for LFC after all the hopes of a top 4 finish with the King. We played nice football however in football you need a bit of luck which we did not have, we hit the post almost 40 times in the entire season and could not win at home even if we dominated the matches. To many draw's and we did not have a out and out finisher like the other team's above us. I think The arsenal game at homed summed up our season we played very nice football, one of the best matches I had seen at anfield but we had lost. People had felt our signing had let us down and carroll was a waste of 35 mil pounds. Well in my opinion carroll will be a star it was not his fualt he was sold for 35 mil he is a air player but liverpool play on the ground which did not suit him, however in his last 10 matches of the season he showed his potential but is not wanted at liverpool with the new managing team. Enrique had a great season until the carling cup final match where he had dipped inform but for most of the season he was a great signing. Coates will be a great player, he is young and a future star CB for liverpool, I will not judge him on a few matches because that would be unfair. Henderson is also a young player who has the ability to be a great player, he has pace, a good shot on him and is a good dribbler, however a move from sunderland to liverpool is a big step for him (no disrespect to sunderland) and he did not have the best of season's but he will grow and improve. No need to talk about bellamy he did great for us shame that he cant play week in week out due to his leg injury. Downing is a experienced player and has played at the top level for many year's, When we bought him he was player of the season for aston villa over ashley young. He is very fast, skillful and great at dribbling, however LFC wanted to use him as a supplier for Carroll which he did not succeed in and for 20 mil that was not a great season for him, however now the brendan is here he can play on the ground and show us what he is made of. Carroll is a similar player to Downing not mobility wise or skill wise but what he was used for. He was known for his passing ability and we had not replaced a player like alonso for 3 year's. Also to fill alonso's boot's would be a very hard task and adam did do well for the first part of the season but he looked weaker during the second part of the season but overall he did do well.
In the end we finished 8th and by all mean's that is no where near where we should be, however we were in the mix for a top 4 finish up until the carling cup final.
In the other hand we had finally won a cup in 6 year's (I dont care if it is the carling cup, it is still silverware) and had also reached the FA Cup final and with the luck we lacked the carroll goal could of counted.

I know this is a very long post and is a overview of what has happened since the new owner's came but my point is if the owner's were hicks and gillett we would of had Roy for a full season and would of not been were we are now(even if you think we are in a bad place now, it could of been worse) and we would not be united like kenny made us, so if we love our club and love Kenny and what he had done for us then get behind our great club. Kenny had left but had left with a new base for liverpool which was nice football, young and upcoming star's, Silverware which has been missed from our beloved club and finally united fan's, up until now were i'm starting to feel us fan's are losing hope, I am most certainly not losing hope, we have a great young team with a young manager who represent's our club very well and is implanting a new style of football for LFC. If your not happy that we are not spending big well then though luck because we are not a team with arab money we are Liverpool and money is not everything in football. Also fan's are upset we are losing our big player's eg agger, suarez etc we said this with other player's eg Torres we replacec him, so Love our club, support them through thick and thin and remember You'll never walk alone
JFT96
Red Star's (sorry everyone for the long post and sorry if there are any mistake's. Thank you ed's for this great site)

Although a long post you make valid points which I and many others will disagree on some but I have to say about 80-90 per cent is a damn sight more than I agree with most on this site.
I myself am just hoping we build on the squad which it looks like we are doing to get rid of Carroll,Downing and Adam would be madness in my view as they are very good players who were stars in their respective clubs.
Kenny was his own worst enemy with his media image and was acting like Fergie without having the managerial authority too.
FSG are a smart owner who I hope will prove us all wrong when it comes too owning our club. The fact they arent rushing in is a positive and the fact we arent buying players at inflated prices is a plus too we need to be savvy in our purchases.
I myself will support Liverpool wherever we are and hope others will do the same.

Kopping a feel

Your post is good, but you don't sack a manager after one season. Plus the fact Kenny signed new players, got to two cup finals nearly winning both. It was a knee-jerk reaction to dismiss him. He was the last Liverpool manager to win the league. FSG replace him with a manager with no experience with a top club. Who talks a good game but anybody can do that. The players he is interested in are mediocre at best. I would live Brendan to succeed but I wouldn't hold your breath.

If these Suarez rumours of him signing a new deal are true not only will I be utterly chuffed to bits but I think a few people need to apologise to Souness who posted yesterday that there would be some very positive news today...I'm obviously assuming he/she was referring to this?

We shall see!

Yes it seems that Suarez has just signed an extention to his contract , and I did post a tongue in cheek comment , just a bit of fun regarding souness s time as manager , so , just to say , that souness was def spot on , great post .

Souness was guessing you muppets otherwise he would have gave details n claimed some credit! When did my fellow fans become so gullible? My god!

I thought souness was just guessing but what is his/her track record? does souness frequently go on here and make things up or was that a once off? if it's a fluke then he's guessing but what if souness has proper sources?

Dempsey will not be coming unless Fulham accept 6M and no more. Allen saga will drag on into next week and possibly towards end of transfer window.

Surin would be a good signing either way and if this comes up the Allen saga may be stopped.

BR saying a lot of transfer activity will happen mmmm me thinks he may have this wrong! Dont you need to assemble your targets well before the season starts?

As for Ramirez i would of liked Suarez to say i will sign a new contract if you get my countryman - never happen as FSG will not spend money, this is a result from King Kenny efforts......... {Ed002's Note - I am pretty certain that Suarez is in no position to hold FSG to ransom over transfers.}

Why would a newly hired manager, who has a rather specific football style that he needs certain types of players to fulfil, make a list of players to buy before he even had a chance to work with the current squad and determine if any of them already fit the bill he needed?

Yes, its true, I saw it - its also now on youtube under 'lfc suarez mistake' - presumably it'll be run as the main headlines on LFC Now at 5pm unless its a stupendous gaff of recording the report before the contract was actually signed AND accidentally pressing play.....

Thanks for reply. Just wondering though why have they still not officially announce anything?

Any ideas?

It would appear that FSG are not the right people for the club. Who knows, FSG maybe thinking the same thing ? It was an old boys act to takeover.

If the news about Suarez is correct, that is a step in the right direction.

Thursday's match with FC Gomel will be interesting, to say the least.

People say..torres is the worst you ever get..

then torres is world class legend..
atleast torres gave us 30 mill profit..

Michael owen is not a legend

Owen changed from a legend to a douche since he joined utd.

Sorry ed have to disagree with you there it was because of Houllier and thompson we lost God,there obsession with heskey and the crap football they brought in at there time,if only the board would have left roy evans alone we imo would have won the premier league under roy, fowler and owen could have played togeather. tommy Irish Red {Ed001's Note - you are wrong, it was because of Owen's constant insistence that he wanted to play alongside Heskey. Owen would not play with God, he didn't like playing second fiddle to a far better player.}

'Totally agree - but you do realise that you are going to get hit with all the ones with a blinkered "blind faith" attitude of ye shall not slate the club but ye shall get behind and not raise questions which require ye to look at the inevitable situation that we are simply not aiming high enough with purchases or being forced to pay over the odds (still) for very average players.'

Spot on. Nodding dogs. Can't stand them, gives them a nice warm feeling that they are better supporters than everyone else!

It's not about blind faith, it's called support and patience, and not incessantly moaning when we haven't signed 10 players yet like spoiled kids.

07 Aug 2012 16:08:28
Suarez has signed a new contract currently at Castle Chambers in Liverpool with his representatives and Ian Ayre...

Hopefully the catalyst for a positive window have reservations about selling Agger, feel if we were to heavily invest in Allen for the types of figures being banded around would be a mistake when we could secure the likes of Ramirez for a similar sum...

The club is in a process of reducing the wage bill lower than 70% to somewhere between 50-60% which then allows more funds for future transfers fee's and club/stadium development...

FSG will operate the as a self sustained entity without regular financial intervention unlike the likes of Chelsa (Abramovich), Man City (Mansour)...

Whats wrong with financial intervention

Wish we had an abramovich

Really and what about when they pull out what happens then, as Kenny says Liverpool will be around a long time after he is gone, isn't it better to have a financially sustainable business. Although his money would be nice I do admit in the short term

Roman at chelsea 10 years now

is that short term?

To all those that have been asking or saying that FSG has a very tight budget, you all are wrong. The reason is simply due to lessons learnt when Comoli and Dalglish were in charge. They overpaid the players which were at most worth 15 mill. Therefore FSG will only fork out the money to players that they feel are derserving of their asking price. Anyways we've been hit hard by Dalglish's actions. Not saying that hes bad but just saying that he could have bought Non-brit (cheaper and better ) alternatives.

Pls stand proud and say..he was bad last season in identifying players...70 mill for 3 players..we would have got 4 good players from any league with that money last year..

Surely Dalglish identified the targets and Comolli negotiated the deals?

Whether he chose the correct players is debatable but I don't think you can lay the blame for everything at his door.

JRG

FSG are on a tight budget

Do you think the oil barrons at city and chelsea would baulk at the money Kenny spent?

The answer is no because the money Kenny spent is peanuts to them but to FSG its a substancial amount and there lies the difference.

I am sorry but I will remind you that it was Dalglish who signed Suarez, Bellamy and Enrique too. It is always easy to point fingers when someone fails but give him credit where it is due. This season when Henderson and Downing play better, I will remind you again of DALGLISH.

In my time of supporting Liverpool for 14 years, the football was exciting to watch for the second time after 2008-2009 season.

Lastly, he will be the greatest legend of Liverpool always who did it all for the passion of it. Dalglish is a great man.

mgz

The Suarez deal might have been completed when Dalglish was in charge but the approach and negotiation with him and Ajax started a good month before hand, when Roy was still in charge .. The Suarez deal was a board/may be Comolli work.
Roy

Luis Suarez was purely a Commolli signing. Liverpool i believe had approached ajax while roy was still in charge.
Indian Buzzer

I may be wrong but I think Rafa was on the trail of Suarez originally

Suarez signed new contract as per LFC TV. Channel went down shortly after lol. Can the rumours stop now.

07 Aug 2012 15:25:58
not a rumour but just a passing thought, the players that we have gotten rid of over the past 4 years, most of them seem to have gone on to better things, alonso, mascherano, torres, benayoun etc etc, we would have had a chance of challenging for titles with this team NOW!...Reina, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique, Gerrard, Mascherano, Alonso, Benayoun, Torres, Suarez...what do you think eds?

Neilos

Sigh...let me dissect this argument

Alonso, true but blame Benetiz for that, but we made 3 times what we paid.

Mascherano, you forget he refused to play against City to force a move, we made our money back, and he seems to either be on the bench or in defence, and his wife hated it here, can't be helped.

Torres, better things? really?! Bench warmer, scorer of about 6 goals, medals won only be wearing the shirt, contribution nil

Benayoun, bench warmer at Chelsea, loaned to Arsenal to bench warm.

Add arbeloa and mirelles to that list

I agree Neilos - It would have been a great team. That isn't the point though is it, no point thinking 'what if', we've gotta look to the future now. Liverpool's history of amazing players is excellent to look over but thinking what could have been won't move us forward. We've gotta be thinking what we can do this season to reach the top 4 - not what previous team may have got us there.

JP.

Agree with you think we would of been challenging for all trophies with that team, but mascherano wanted to leave and torres judging his performances prior to him leaving hadnt wanted to be there for a long long time but the reality is we are nowhere near getting 4th never mind winning title huge clearout needed and we have to accept we dont have 150 mill to go out and spend. fsg and rogers r going to do things the right way it will be a long process but thats life so all those moaning about lack of transfer activity and calling rogers think back to when hicks and gillette were in charge as they r the real reason why the club is in the state it is fsg r here to put things right and lets back them and rogers

Benayoun went onto better things. Really?

Alonso, from your list of 4 players, was about the only one that causes regrets to me. And that was brought about about a very poor season from him that caused an awful lot of LFC fans to question his involvement. Rafa looked for a replacement, which ended up in Alonso then having his best season for us and then leaving to return to spain. For a lot of money to us. Masch forced his way out of LFC, again for a large fee for us, and spent a year coming off the Barca bench and is now playing CB for them for the most part. Lucas is now playing better than he ever did for us. Torres was s**t for 12 months before we sold him for 50m and he continued to be s**t for 18 more months. Benny Noon could hardly be considered a big loss. Good player but hardly pulling up trees.

The fact of the matter is that a lot of good players come and go, especially foriegn players and the key is getting the best out of them whilst they are here and making a profit on them when they move on. Much the same way United did with Ronaldo.

And for all the FIFA 2012 scouts out there, most of the big name foriegn players you tout would be transient in the EPL, play for a bit and then look to move home or one of the mid-european leagues.

What we are trying to build here, What BR is saying he is trying to do here, is build a team for the long haul of getting us back on top. We need players that will come and play for the badge, come as they are rising stars and play their prime years for us as we get back to challenging for the league as we should be.

So what u call the super stars at real...are they bench warmer?
only 11 can play in a game..
kaka was sitting on the bench and won la liga..
so is kaka a bench warmer?

If kaka sat on the bench most of the season then yes he is a bench warmer, he isn't good enough to get into the team so yes he is a bench warmer.

Positive and negative feedback for my thoughts...all I am saying is that I would rather have Benayoun than Downing, Torres than Carroll, Alonso/Mascherano than Henderson/Adam...Torres is world class, no 2 ways about that...got problems in hes head I think!. Thanks though guys, muchos appreciatos

Neilos

"Benayoun went onto better things. Really?"

Yes - Rumour has it the chelsea and arsenal sub benches come with additional built-in hot seats to tan your bikini line. Just ask torres.

just heard on 3.00pm news on radio city (liverpool) that suarez has believed to have signed new long term contract at liverpool - no news on liverpool fc site or the echo - but nevertheless a reliable source - eds heard any news
Also any news on reina - he didnt play in europe

Romblonred {Ed002's Note - PepeCam shows him taking Sparky for a walk in Caderstones Park righ now.}

Can Pepecam reveal if he is completely bald or he shaves his head regularly? Let me know. Thanks {Ed002's Note - Pepe has what is known by his coiffeur as a "reverse mohican". If the truth were know, he and Meirelles share a single head of hair.}

Ed002, you impress me with your knowledge of parks in Liverpool. For an extra 10 points can you name 2 more parks in Liverpool?

Danny {Ed002's Note - PepeCam is interactive and uses Google's Location Services to provide details of where he is at all times - so I cheat in that respect. I can also of course name Stanley Park and Goodison Park.}

Nice on Ed002. As always..

Chaki

Check out pics on liverpoolfc.tv, reina is there

And for the umpteenth million time, Pepe was scheduled to return on August 1st, and he did. The official site just posted pictures of him training with the full squad again. And Making a rather nice save too, I might add. I imagine it is entirely possible that he will be between the posts for the August 9th home leg against Gomel.

I wish people would stop slagging Kenny off about over-paying for players. What's done is done and cannot be changed, get over it. It was an awkward couple of xfr windows with the late sale of Torres and the state of the club.

The same people will probably be slagging off Rodgers if we miss out on players (e.g., Siggudson) because we are not willing to pay enough.

Kenny is a true legend and has only ever done the best for the club. It didn't work out, but not for the want of trying.

All clubs have these instances...e.g., Veron at Utd, Kezman/Crespo/Schevcenko at Chelsea. It's not just an LFC phenomena.

Also sometimes you need to take a step back before going forward, FSG are stabilising the club with the ambition of winning the league. Give it time and support your club.

Kez

Do bear in mind that those players were players with a good reputation and proven abilty unlike our overpriced British players

Yes you are right..then stop blaming rafa too..for his mistakes...he too is a legend in the manergerial role at liverpool

Kenny is the man

Rafa pales into insignificance compared to Kenny

Kenny simply was not given enough time or support by the owners.

Ask yourself this question if the sheik or roman was at the helm of LFC with their resources would Kenny still be manager?

The answer I think is that Kenny still would be manager.

I like many true LFC supporters miss Kenny but we live unfortunately in a disposable world.

AnCo

He bought bad players, get it into your head, that's why we're trying to sell half of them

Hi all,

Quick question Ed's - If the rumours surrounding a possible Sahin loan turn out to be true whats the probability it would have a 'right to buy' option? Considering his lack of 1st team action do Madrid see him featuring in their future plans?

Cheers,

Rascal Red {Ed002's Note - I don't know what the terms of any possible loan would be. You do realise he was injured for much of last season - hence the lack of games?}

07 Aug 2012 15:13:44
joe allen deal is off talking with sahin instead

Better player instead..

Chaki

Why can't we have both? Sahin and Allen could certainy play together, alternating between CDM and CM positions during a game as dictated by play. And Especially if Lucas is rested or injured during this year as he regains his level.

Both could also play alongside Lucas very well and even both at the same time if Gerrard is injured or rested.

I know the Eds think we have too many CM's but the truth is that Adam is not good enough and needs to move on. Hopefully in part exchange for Dempsey.

For the center 3 in our 4-3-3, we would have Lucas, Allen, Gerrard, Sahin, Henderson, and Shelvey with Suso pushing for some time. IMO, perfect depth of squad for League, Cups, Rotation and Injury/Suspension.

As much as I like Spearings work ethic and his love for the LFC badge, I would see him gone along with Adam if it meant getting in Sahin as well as Allen.

A new Suarez contract is a boost for the team and great news for the fans! But can the Media / Web site teams get it together on the timing of announcements .... first Dempsey and now this. Just saying ...

Dempsey mistake was nothing to do with LFC it was the NESN sports website that made that error.

I am writting in as a very concerned Liverpool supporter. I've thrown away the 'Rose tinted' glasses and I'm seeing more clearly now. My views are my own and do not represent the majority of Liverpool fans in any way.

My concerns relate to the way the football club has been run for the last 20 years, the manner in which the club was sold to Hicks and Gillet and the outcome from which things have turned out since Kenny Dalglish got sacked.

Ever since the club was sold to Hicks and Gillet I can't help but see the blatant asset stripping of the club, you all know that something doesn't feel right but are just hoping that somehow things will change and Liverpool will dominate again. Liverpool FC and their fans. we need moyes as manager everton for life

I can only think of one 'asset' which you can refer to and that is Torres.
But since HE handed in a transfer request and since HE had made it clear by his performances for a very long time that he didn't wish to be here and since Chelsea were stupid enough to pay £50M - I think it ended up being perfect business. The problems came with how our transfer funds were then used

Puzzled

Ha ha ha ... asset stripping ... Everton ... never notice the lack of funds that Kenwright puts into the club then, even though they sell all of their better players?

Where LFC is now, is where we should have been 20 years ago.
Out strengthening commercial opportunities on the start of the premier league. With stable, ambitious owners.

We failed to move with the times, and for the past 20 years we have stumbled our way through survival due to our history.

People seem to forget FSG are first timers into the world of football, only been in charge for 2 years, and american !

Its not about domination, its perfection we should be looking for. we cannot no longer rely having a star on the pitch whom everybody idolises over, but then string him from lamposts once he decides we cannot match his aspirations.

LFC is about every single person from supporter to the guy that locks up at night, all pulling in the same direction. I now feel that slowly we are getting back to this mantra of never walking alone, ignore all the plebs that wanna troll through here and bitch, let em, ignore em, move on.

Last 20 have been on the slide, we cannot expect turnaround instantly, but overall progress is being made, and next few seasons the club will feel new again.
Piddy.

Chelsea stuppid enough?
then what about kaka..56 million...
are they stuppid...kaka failed at real?
get a grip mate...torres is the complete defentition of striker..
if we can sing about our history..
torres can also sing once he too scored 30 goals a season...

When Baines leaves for Man Utd, for about £8 million, Kenwright might give Moyes £1 million to replace him.

Torres has a world cup winners medal and a champs league medal he can do a lot of singing and probably a bit of dancing too

Moyes, Kenwright's "Yes" man, developing talent for over a decade, then getting the crumbs back from their sales ... exactly what we need, a manager with no balls and no aspirations.

Allen is a matter of time. and am sure I speak for the majority if I say that since the olymics performance everyone is convinced that he can perform well in big occasions. not only he can play both with Gerrard and Lucas but also he can perform he can be a very good cover for both.
I can not see where Adam would fit in this squad I would expect him to leave along with shelvy on loan.

BR, also interested in bringing Sahin on loan. he has a good relationship with Mourinhio so we will be benefited from that relationship. if Sahin performs well, he may fall in love with us and decide to make his move permanent.

The other situation is with Agger, if a bid in excess of 20 mil comes in, I can us agreeing to it. and if the money is spent well, it will benefit the club a lot. we can ask for £13mil + Adam Johnson, and buy Amorebieta for £8mill.

the last situation is with Caroll. if he stays I can't see Dempsey coming but if he leaves, may another surprise loan signing if we can't pull of a deal for Dempsey.

at the end with very minimal spending I can these happening
outs; Kuyt, Maxi, Aurelio, Bellamy, Aquillani, Agger, Adam and Shelvy(loan)

ins; Borini, Allen, Adam Johnson(Ramirez), Sahin, Amorebieta, Dempsey

Wishfull thinking with ur ins

From what I've gathered from all the rumors, here's what appears most likely:
I think Suarez has signed a new contract, Allen deal to be done soon, and I believe we might be getting Walcott, Ramirez & whoever the loan signing is...(Tello from Barca or Sahin from Real) Agger probably gone, but we have young Kelly to step in... Not a bad bit of transfer activity if it all pans out.
For those of you that do not like Walcott, let's not forget he was a reds ball-boy & idolized the club. He would be proud to put on the shirt, and I could see him becoming the player he has the potential to be simply by playing for the club he dreamed of playing for when he was young!
I, for one, hope this all happens...
YNWA USA

Walcott is one of us so I am behind him. He is like Ryan Giggs - slightly dissapointing as a boy-wonder prodigy 'the next Henry' etc and, in my opinion, with experience added to a good natural temperament, will enjoy suprising suistained consistency during the second half of his career.

- I would have him in the side any day
JA

Happy days, some positivity from a fan of our great club. I hope that the people who want FSG out(beggars belief) And want BR to go too(really sad, not true LFC supporters) will shut up and stop spouting all there negativity. FSG and hopefully BR, are here for the long haul and will in time put us were we belong. YNWA.

Danny

Yes indeed, too many fans are negative these days!

Would love walcott to join us, even if his end product is not all that (yet), he can still work on it! Certainly a good replacement for for example kuyt

07 Aug 2012 14:47:47
The hysteria's gone beyond ridiculous. The negativity and whingeing's insane now.
None of it comes with justification.

FSG bought this club with the intention that it would someday make them a fortune.
To do this, success on the pitch would be paramount. Henry and co were (and remain) fully aware of this: success on the pitch= increased revenues, as Barca and Manchester Utd have shown.

Investment in excellent players (junior and senior) and staff is foremost pre-requisite. This they are not unaware of. It was under their watch that we made and as well broke our first transfer record (Suarez + Carroll).

More than once they have demonstrated their willingness to support their manager, rightly or wrongly. I haven't anything with basis in fact to suggest that that is going to change.
And why would they? Doing so would be tantamount to shooting themselves in the foot.

Put short, FSG have no vested interest in Liverpool failing, but everything in it succeeding. And you don't succeed by dispensing with those tools which give you the best odds of doing without adequately replacing them.

Agger and Suarez may or may not leave. But that's not the issue here.
The question is whether, were they to leave, would they be replaced, with the same calibre of players at that?
Yes, yes.

As I stated, no benefit would accrue to FSG and their investment with a weak Liverpool without any prospect of any sort of success.
So as with Torres, funds will be made available for the replacing of Agger and Suarez were they to leave, which they haven't, which doesn't mean that they won't.

All we have heard now are rumours of who's going to buy them and who we are supposedly going to buy.
Basically, nothing of substance, only clueless, indeed baseless press reports with only the intention of creating headlines and selling newspaper.

Regrettably, it's had the intended effect. The most gullible and fickle of fans have been whipped into an orgasmic hysteria and suckered lock, stock and barrel into the frenzy, to the point that they have turned against their own manager and owners... on the basis of a media report.

Tragic. When supposedly enlightned fans trust a media which itself is no more privvy to the affairs of the club than they are.

I would urge calm and trust in the manager and the owners of the club. If any player is to leave, Agger or Spearing, they will, as they always do without, duly and timeously relay that officially for all and sundry to know.

There are some 3 weeks until the window closes. LFC, as the manager has been at pains to stress, are working hard on getting the players they want and improving the squad.

Who those players are there is no conclusive information, other than one or two exceptions.
We may or may not succeed in getting those players, but we will get players in.

The hysteria really is unjustified. The fears are well misplaced.
Wait until the window shuts and proceed to submit your critiques then.
Meantime, give the manager and FSG a break. In this vein, fans will be more of a liability than any "flop" player (forbid) that Brendan may have the misfortune of purchasing.

Honestly lads, you need to pull yourselves together, now.

Govan Sami

Sounds like sahin us the major loan signing,I don't think he is a star player sadly and would prefer a out and
Out winger

Are you kidding? Sahin in superb.

I would be delighted with Nuri Sahin. He has already proven himself by helping dortmund win the bundesliga. Definitely a better option than paying 20 million for Joe allen.

I have a source at liverpool fc that, says they are expecting a few signings in the the next two weeks (which Macca has posted about), and according to my source, the club are pushing for star players (number1 priority atm), but he went on to say to not hold him to it as things can change very fast and some deals can fail during progression (hence what Macca has said in the past too). But atm, they are really working hard, much better than last year according to him. I pushed for more information, but he was reluctant to give me more information, though he did conclude by saying that lfc have enough capital expenditure (transfer budget i assume) to buy star quality players, but the issue is with the wages and also the fact they are only willing to pay the right prices for players than what has been quoted after last years mishandling of the transfer expenditure (i would say enquiries have probably been made for several players then and there seems to be better control). What do you think eds?

07 Aug 2012 14:24:42
Citeh spent £26m on Milner and they are proposing £20m for Agger....

They are having a laugh aren't they

NS

Milners always fit and can play every position in midfield if asked towith quality performances apart from lm can even become an adequate rb also

We are very foolish when it comes to transfers.

Milner at right back , I have heard this many times but still refuse to beleive he can do it .

EdWood

Milner, quality performances, what games have you been watching?

So Milner is a utility player so what Agger is one of the best CB in the world hence the interest from Barca, Madrid and Citeh - the Euros showed that. Im guessing his frustration is not playing in the CL and for that you cant blame if he wants to move.

Just hope we don't sell him.

NS

Makes no odds, the higher price we sell then the higher targets cost us, clubs will know what we have to spend

If both Milner and Agger came up for sale, who would Barca prefer? Thought so!

Hi ed's,

I notice you stated on someones post that there was no detail released regarding Matias suarez failing his medical and quite rightly I don't think there would be anything public announced.
That being said have any of the ed's heard any details about this from their sources? {Ed002's Note - I have no detail.}

Why does clubs only play hardball against us? Is it due to the Daglish's era where we just pay the player's asking price? Opinion eds.

Yes...KK payed over the odds and now everyone are expecting us to do the same...20 mill for allen...we should hit them hard one face

It was Damien Comolli who negotiated for players he flet would fulfil his statistical based team . Kenny Dalglish was just the man manager of the players DC signed .

EdWood

U mean..KK never new liverpool was paying 20 mill for downing?...if no one is bigger than club..what was he doing wen liverpool was paying 20 mill for downing...common...its KK and commoli..and all the choice of the players were KK...if he found villa demanding 20 mill for downing...he should have laughed at him and move on...

Both of them performed poorly at their jobs hence why they got sacked. To the best interest of the majority of fans and the owners. Kennys status didn't need any more tarnishing.

07 Aug 2012 14:13:26
Eds is it true that we don't hav the financial power to buy the star players we need to win the league. We wer better off with king kenny. I hope we sign allen, dempsey, mirallas, quaresma, walcott and the major loan star in kaka.

No we were not better off with king kenny. The errors he and his staff made have put down this club ernormously.

07 Aug 2012 14:17:50
Losing players except to exceptional offer (Torres-esc), would be a backward step. Carling Cup, FA, EPL and Europa is alot of games and the need for depth will be huge. Especially at the back i feel in rgs to Agger.

But if he gets a recurrence of his injury problems then we're in a worse position, no money and no cover

hi, eds, Macca said 4 players would be bought. do u think there will be a DM as cover for lucas? any players we are looking at?

If we get joe Allen then he and lucas would be the two DM's playing behind gerrard (CAM) and if we keep spearing he can play that position as well...not at all well though.

Announcement to be made on Joe Allen by the end of the week. Negotiations have taken place however with Allen being at the Olympics nothing has yet to be finalised. However announcement in likely to be Thursday following talks with Laudrop.

07 Aug 2012 14:15:06
Starting to look likely that we will start signing players that can add quality along with the squad we already have now plus the rumoured allen, maybe dempsey, star loan signing. could be a top 4 team once again

07 Aug 2012 14:14:23
20 mil for Allen! Laudrup he has a 15 mil buyout clause which will be accepted! Brendan knows this most of all so the media are chatting BS in my opinion!

Taster123

He does have a 15m buy out clause. It's a bit much for his age, quality and experience so we've offered around 12m. I don't blame Laudrup and, in fact, I think it's a smart manager that comes out and says a player that is likely to leave is worth a lot more (20m in this case) than what they expect for him.

Basically, we're trying to get him for less than his buy out clause and they want the full amount so they price him above the clause. It's called haggling.

However, I can actually see BR deliberately looking elsewhere to make sure his future dealings go to his liking.

Kaka doesn't even figure for Real, why would we want him other than to make fair weather fans feel good about themselves?

Macca is amazing at first i came on here sceptical about wether u actually know anything but to be fair u have turned me around, and for the people who moan at u n the other eds and Macca its not needed u come on here give us what u know u dont tell people to listen. I mean Macca said big changes there has been. Few days ago Macca said we are looking at loan two days later it gets reported we are in the loan market from abroad. i think lfc should sell suarez and agger not because they are bad players but because it would benefit the team, suarez is a great player but he doesnt give a damn about liverpool and causes the club to much hassle and agger is a great player but is injured to much if we could get 50 million for the two of them and invest it in the team then maybe we could get all the players that everyone keeps bringing up every 2 mins

Rumours Suarez has just extended his contract!

I feel Brendan Rodgers has to lay down a marker regarding the Joe Allen transfer saga. Swansea now saying Allen is worth over £20million gime me a break. Buck needs to offer 10-12mill max and let it go if it is not accepted. No point in making the same mistakes as last time overpaying for british players. Cazorla cost around 13mill and is a different level to Allen its ridiculous. I for hope Allen dosent come if its gonna cost £20mill +. We need to be scouring the foreign leagues for talent at the right price not overpaying on uk players. There must be something drastically wrong with our scouting system as it has not produced much results for a long time now imo. Hope you post this have tried loads before and no luck. Love the site good work eds. Red forever.

Cazorla has about 6 years on Allen, Allen could prove to be much better when he's reached that age when players are supposedly in their prime, how much could he potentially be worth then?

Look at Gareth Bale, had played countless games for Spurs being on the losing side every time, about to be loaned out til injuries forced Redknapp to play him on the wing and the rest is history and being quoted £40 million. There was even talk on here of him being loaned to us that January and peopel were up in arms about it. You need to now be so narrow minded.

To the second poster, Allen is not worth £20 mill as simple as that.

Allen is worth maximum 10m. End of. We've overpaid for our young british players last year let's not do it again. Jayo

does anybody know what time the press conference is today / has it even been confirmed by the club. Looked on the website and didn't see anything on it. cheers eds you guys do a great job. {Ed002's Note - I don't know of any press conference today but expect one tomorrow.}

Eds, is the potential press conference tomorrow likely to be about a signing or off the field matters? Thanks in anticipation of your response. keep up the good work! {Ed002's Note - I would expect it will cover the game on Thursday and whatever other news the club has.}

I guess we're not buying players because we are bargaining and some teams such as fulham and swansea are playing hardball. Of course you shouldn't just pay the asking price but you have to know when to give in otherwise it may cost you more in the long run. Andy Carroll is the perfect example, on the last day of the transfer window after other strikers rejected us, we bought Carroll in desperation for 35m and are now looking to sell him for 20m.

Maybe fulham is quoting 10m for Dempsey and we have offered 9 (just guessing). But if we play hardball and he ends up going to roma, then what?
yes there are other players out there but if they are not first choice e.g. Andy Carroll, we may end up getting screwed again especially as we move towards the deadline and "desperation" kicks in

eds, have you any idea who the loan signing could be? or even what club he is currently at?
also, what positions would you say we are looking at, if we get 6 players, including the loan and allen?
please post and reply, thanks. Ian! {Ed002's Note - Ian you need to keep up with the posts.}

apparently, laudrup said that allen is worth £15 mil or they'd accept a swap deal for luis suarez!!!!! actually never heard someone talk so much s*** in my life!!!

Swansea are not going to do well this season. I hope they know that. Sinclair might be on his way, joe Allen looks very likely to leave and sigurdsoon has gone to spurs. 3 of the best players at Swansea. They will be a much weaker team. BR's philosophy will be changed and Swansea will be relegation candidates. Probably won't get relegated but they won't be no where near as strong as last season. That's when we get to laugh at laundrup. Swansea a great prospect if BR was still there. Chin up

Nice to see fsg boasting about shirt deals but the name of Liverpool fc is sullied with that sponsor on the front far more than the name Suarez.
What a greedy mess of corporate hangers on claiming to care about the club but just chasing the money making dodgy decisions on deals.

Who really cares mate?
The average football fans knows nothing about how a bank is run.
As long as the sponsor money keeps rolling I doubt the club will either.

MIKEY

You've obviously read the tabloid headlines rather than the broadsheets m8t! The Yonks are talking this up in order to be able to slap Standard CB with a big fine.

Hello eds.
Starting to get a bit worried of how long it's taking for Liverpool to sign the players they want. Aparently joe Allan's price has gone from 12mill to 20mill now wich is r*****ed.
Dempsey won't be coming, if we wanted to match fulhams price he could have been signed befor the tour. Rameirez? Were problebly not meeting the avaluation for him either!

Meanwhile Lukas podolski, Oliver girould, santi cazorla (who is amazing BTW) have all signed for arsenal!

Eden hazard, Marko Marin, Oscar... Problebly hulk and Moses
Have all signed for Chelsea

How are we supposed to compete?

Sorry to put a damper on your negativity, but if Cazorla was " amazing ", I sort of think he would remain in Spain, because the one area RM often suffer is midfield, even Barca would may be have been interested. Neither Podolski or Giroud have been anything special in their respective leagues.

John B

The only way we can compete is buy selling agger and suarez

We compete by not overpaying for players anymore and avoiding bankrupting ourselves.

MIKEY

How many have Utd signed m8t? We're not the only ones taking our time, we have to spend wisely not quickly. We made a lot of signings last year, we already have some great players were not building from scratch!

100% agree with this! well said. bradthered

John B u sound very bitter mate. In fact Real Madrid were interested in Cazorla however said they knew Malaga would make the transfer fee sky rocket because it was another Spanish club. Barca have no room for him, even Afellay has to go. Giroud top scorer in the french league last year and podolski has 96 caps for Germany.

John b, everytime I see a post from you it is invalid and is a fail. This poster has the same frustration as many other Liverpool fans as we are acting very slow in the transfer market. It's very well that we're not going to be pushed around but with a new manager new philosophy the team needs to be organised at an early stage so we can have advantages. So far we've sold alot of our good players and brought in a prospect signing that looks good but is still a risk. It's not negativity it's reality. Lfc with its current team are inferior to the teams above it apart from maybe Newcastle and everton (teams that finished above Liverpool). Until we have addressed the problems we had last season we have gone backwards by selling the players that made a difference last season. The next 3 weeks are huge for the direction of this club for the upcoming season. It's make or break.

good news guys..just read a news that liv have joined the race to sign Sahin on loan deal and mourinho's good relationship with BR could help this deal go through

Liv? Liv?? Four more key taps please

Four more keys tabs would mean 'livpool', learn how to spell before you criticise others.

Hi Ed's, do you know if the rumours that the BIG loan deal could be David Villa carry any weight?

JJ86 {Ed002's Note - No idea.}

He's probably carrying some extra weight, been out of action for ages.

07 Aug 2012 13:20:41
If Rodgers feel that Allen is not worth those crazy money, which is not suprising, Sahin could be a fallback. By the way eds, is it possible to have a buy on clause for Sahin? Or would Mourinho just want him to have some experience? {Ed001's Note - a what?}

07 Aug 2012 13:17:05
Eds quick question about BRs formation and Theo Walcott.
Does he favour r a narrow 433 formation? If it's narrow then surely Walcott could play front with him and Suarez playing either side of borini or Carroll with the fullback providing proper width or does he player a wider system and therefore would want a decent winger to provider strikers with some decent service. Theos final balls tend to be poor so I don't see him as and out and out winger. What are ur thoughts? {Ed001's Note - his wide players tend to play narrower than wingers, but with the option to go inside or outside the defender facing them. Walcott would be best playing anywhere else, in my opinion, he is simply not good enough.}

07 Aug 2012 13:16:35
With all of the negativity on these pages over the last few mainly have got me wondering. Are most of the posters on this site on the right page? I believe that they are getting lost on their way to menopausal men talk.
I have two pieces of information firstly the window is still open and secondly our league season has not yet started.

Confirmed news so far:
Borini signed from Roma - Good young signing
Kuyt joined Fenerbache - Reduced wage bill
Maxi joined Old Boys - Wanted to go home
Aurelio joined Gremio - Surplus to requirements
Amoo joined PNE - Surplus to requirements
Aquilani joined Fiorentina - Doesn't like England
Silva joined Barnsley - Surplus to requirements
Darby joined Bradford - Surplus to requirements
Scouse_Pride

The transfer window is still open is not a positive point it sound desperate to say that.

ED001 Do you think Agger would move to Man City after everything he said about Torres's move to Chelsea how he would never move to another premiership club as he finds it disrespectful are you hearing the same that he will leave? {Ed001's Note - yes, I know he would prefer not to, but I don't see him actually having a problem going there. A lot of his comments were more about the way Torres forced the move to Chelsea, rather than because of it being Chelsea.}

07 Aug 2012 13:15:20
I for one am very optimistic regarding the coming season,what with the new manager,''a class act in my opinion'',''Fabulous Fabio Borini'' as he will come to be known no doubt when he starts banging them in.Joe Allen ''another class act'',the emergence of our own group of quality youngsters allied to our big hitters,Gerrard,Lucas and Suarez.Irrespective of who comes or who go's next season will be a good one,a progressive one where Liverpool will re-establish itself as a force to be reckoned with both domestically and in Europe.The moaners can moan and the doubters can doubt,the trolls can troll and the whiners can whine, they are of no consequence.The real fans will get their just rewards and get them soon.Let battle commence !! B {Ed049's Note - nice one}

You my friend are like a breath of fresh air.

I may be the only one like but city arent really our rivals in the sense that utd and chelsea are, to be honest if we are not gonna win the league this season id rather it be city or aresenal just because it annoys the utd and chelski fans greatly. wenger would never pay that much for agger so city is our best pl option. personaly if he does go to city i wont be booing him like torres cause i while he may want to leave it looks like br needs to ofload him to get the cash cause carroll is refusing to leave. city only realistic option.
if he leaves and when he comes to anfield i hope im not the only one who doesnt boo becasue unlike his cb partner who looks to be trying to get a move after his one good season at the club i believe he actually cares about the fans which is saying a lot for a foreign player in todays football.

Hi EDS If Agger does go do you think we will go for Mapou Yanga Mbiwa as a replacement good young defender ans cheap and also is there any news on Jack Butland and Quaresma joining YNWA Dan {Ed002's Note - Amorebieta seems a possibility and there is nothing on the others right now.}

Its on ESPN.....its advertised as a Tottenham match but trust me its the Liverpool game thats being broadcast.

07 Aug 2012 13:10:26
In - J.Allen , Affelay or T.Walcott and C.Dempsey

Out - C.Adam, J.Cole

We may have a bustling midfield, but have to stretch this across 2 domestic cups, league and europe.

Would hate to see Agger go.

I bet you hear these "rumours" all the time but I have genuinely heard that Andy Carroll has bought a house in Crosby this month (admit I have no proof but its being spoken about amongst those that would probably know)

I have said from day 1 Adam Johnson would be great addition for us but this wont happen.
Gasto Ramirez rumours are up and down, but I doubt it now.
Christian Tello - a lot of people are talking about him again this week?
Apparently Cardiff have "no room" for Bellamy. Can see him filling a role at Anfield, all be it from the bench and cup appearences.
Juventus will continue there interest in Suarez. But he will stay put for now, he enjoys liverpool life, but, sources close to him say he is very career driven and wants to compete in the elite competitions

Ah well they are my thoughts

Right, Allen and Dempsey would be great signings...at the RIGHT price. If our bids are not what the clubs are expecting MOVE ON!. Lets not repeat last years mistakes of paying over inflated prices. At the moment, both Swansea and Fulham are asking too much. Dempsey is available for free next year, he will be 30 then so 3 good seasons after that in him so lets just wait if Fulham dont realise they will get nothing next year lets just be patient. Allen ? He is not at this moment worth no where near 20million! BR would be wise to just play Suso. The kid is fantastic and playing alongside Gerrard can only help him progress! People forget about Hendo, the lad could be a fantastic player if he gets time and he cost us far too much to just muck away or warm a bench. I would rather us buy Ramirez and Tello. Our best players have either come through the acadamey (Stevie,Carra,Owen,Fowler etc) or from other countries (Alonso,Lucas,Torres,Suarez). Buying in premiership players who are meant to be 'proven' has not worked very well! We seem to get their twin brothers who cant play football.

Seems at the min our scouts have only been camping in wales so lets spread the net further than just our shores. Borini should be the the 1st of many new players that can bring a continental style to our great team.

You mean borini who came through Chelsea's academy? how will he add a continental style? what even is a continental style anyway? if you hadn't noticed spanish football is completely different to that of other parts of the continent for example Italy. I agree with the rest of your comment though as Liverpool have previously overpaid for players but i doubt Allen would cost £20mil anyway; it is just a tactic to raise his price that laudrup is using.

Rowan

No, he means the Borini who came through Bolognas academy.

07 Aug 2012 13:07:13
Not a rumour as such Ed's, but my first post all the same... How the hell have Arsenal signed 3 Quality players for less than we paid for AC! We need to start playing hardball with these clubs! As for Allen, yes he is a good player but clubs like City, Utd and Arsenal all buying GREAT players! We need to aim higher, I love the club but to get us back to greatness will take a big set of balls! Something I think BR can do but needs 100% backing. On signings I would like to see Walcott think he could cause havoc with his pace and combined with the cleverness of Borini and Suarez could be lethal....with Lucas and Gerrard as the work horses it COULD be a good season! SparkyRed

United buying great players - Powell and Kagawa !!! are you serious.
Arsenal - none of the players have PL experience, with no great records in their own leagues.
City - haven't bought anyone yet.

John B

John B have you seen kagawa play and for £12m. i feel sad saying this but he is twice the player allen is and is the type of creative playmaker the we need (we could've had lucas in masch role gerrard in alonso role as he has lost his pace and kagawa in gerrard role which would have been amazing). him and corzola are the best signings of the summer so far and to me it cements the fact that lfc need some new god damn negotiators cause the ones we got have to be the worst the prem has ever seen.

Hardball?

Lok at it this way re. AC, Newcastle didn't need to sell so what use is hardball?

And Arsenals signings, the cvlubs wanted to sell them, malaga need the money, re, Podolski is a luxury having never been that great at league level. Giroud, who knows, French league is one thing, they also got Chamakh and Gervinho from that league, the never worked did it.

07 Aug 2012 12:58:14
If the rumours about Ricardo Quaresma are true and we can get him for a small fee I'd be very happy. Marry that to the possibilities of Adam Johnson in the deal for Agger and also a chance of Tello from Barca then that would really shake up our attack. Though one could argue that these players might be gambles they would still provide the ability to win those tight games. How often has our Achilles heel been losing to teams at the lower end of the table. The above all can produce a moment of individual magic - something most of our current players can't produce. Of course, Gaston Ramirez would also be nice and only time will tell on that one. And if Nuri Sahin came on loan (another slight gamble because of his injuries) that would also be great, after being very impressed with him at Dortmand. And if as expected Joe Allen arrives I would welcome him (can't understand the negativity on here regarding him) as he seems a very tidy player. Is he superstar player? No, but he will certainly improve our play and our squad. As a footnote if Agger goes it would be a real shame. How many players show loyalty like him in the modern game. I understand why Liverpool might sell him (injuries, age, etc) it is prudent and smart. But despite all that my heart would love him to stay. So wherever you end up Dan you have my thanks for playing for the Reds and the best of luck wherever you play. There aren't many top blokes in footy these days but you are most definitely one, thank you.

The furore surrounding Andy Carroll's future seems to have died down a bit. I'd like to see him staying on but is there anything new to suggest otherwise?

07 Aug 2012 12:50:57
hey eds, if we were to sell agger, which defender would we most likely sign to replace him? {Ed023's Note - Ed002 has point out that Liverpool are interested in Fernando Amorebieta}

07 Aug 2012 12:50:00
Seriously guys, stop jumping on FSGs backs. Yes they've been slow in spending this summer but I think you ought to be angry with Damien Comolli and, with regret, King Kenny instead.
They spent over £100m on players last year and these players were meant to be integral parts of the future for LFC and bring us back towards champions league football - now we're probably further away. Therefore this year we'll have far less to spend and we will have to look at potential loan signings and selling one or two big name players ie Carroll/Agger in order to fund new signings.
Please just stop hacking at FSG as they proved last season they have money to spend, if in 3 weeks time the squad is the same as it is now then you have a point to raise but right now just shut up and be patient, the signings will come.

Arsenal sign yet another big signing, chelski have signed acouple of them, spurs have signed 2, city have a squad of quality with the spending power to beat anyone and utd are monitoring lucas moura. Where the heck is liverpool??? weve signed borini, and maybe about to sign allen?? I do believe rogers is the man to help the club but from the outside it looks like hes kind of shell shocked at being at a big club!! If we are to challenege for 4th place we really need quality signings added to our squad. Allen has been good for swansea, and borini the season before too, but can they really help use move up another level from last year? Im actually now worried with newcastle actually gaining more and more quality signings that we might not even finish 5th. Ive been a liverpool supporter all my life and have supported them through thick and thin but it seems our beloved club is on the downward spiral.

Fermanaghman

Keep supporting them then

Why has no one shed any light on who the loan signings possibly could be?

07 Aug 2012 12:44:08
All the British players are overrated and LFC was willing to pay up in the past, so the seller clubs trying to get the most from us. Solution, buy players from Europe or South America....

HK

07 Aug 2012 12:43:58
If we are to sell Daniel Agger I think it'll be our biggest mistake since selling Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano.

These are the types of players we need to keep in order to progress.

We need to stop regressing to overpriced 'young stars' such as Joe Allen, Jordan Henderson and Andy Carroll and instead focus on our own excellent academy supplemented by one or two world class signings.

Post of the day for me

Mascherano wanted to go and I seem to remember he forced himself out quite appallingly and we didn't get a large transfer fee as a result.
Alonso was forced out by rafa.
Agger is wanting to go but we can still get a really good fee for him so why hang onto him when he doesn't want to play for us anymore? And he is injury prone?
Players come and go we need to start buying and selling at the right times.
And this is defiantly the right time to sell agger.

Michael Laudrup....... GET REAL!!. Why do British players have inflated price's??, Joe Allen is just another example of this, If Joe was a non-British player he would probably be available for £5-7mil. I can see Swansea holding him back this season and limiting his progression, by not letting him go to a bigger club and learning from the likes of Gerrard, and in Europe under Rodger's leadership. The simple fact of the matter is Mr Laudrup, Joe has grown as a player and has become too big for your club. Give the lad the option of moving, and lower the ridiculous price. Ant B

07 Aug 2012 12:33:47
i like joe allen and he would be asset to the team. but is he worth 15 million? santi cazorla is much better and he is joining arsenal for the same price. like i said i like joe allen but can you catch man u and man city with players like him? can u even catch up to arsenal or tott ?

07 Aug 2012 12:33:22
Eds, surely Tello isn't in Barca's 25 man squad because he is under the age of 21 - so he doesn't have to be registered... last season both Henderson and Coates weren't registered along with all the promising youth players as they were 21 years old or younger.
I hope we don't sign Tello - got absolutely nothing to his game.
YNWA
Chris

Tello has the ability to be a star. His decision making is a little raw, but he has fantastic ability. I'd be delighted if we could sign him.

He has to be registered as you must be under 20 on Spain as far as I remember.... (Correct me if I'm wrong)

You don't play for Barca if you have absolutely nothing to your game.

Have you seen him play? He's quick, has a fantastic turn, great control and is very direct.

I've seen him play two games for Barca and was very impressed -

though imo he is seemed very direct for Barca's style - when he recieves the ball he goes straight for the jugular - often when he lacks aqequate support - and his pressing game could do with work.

These may be amongst the reasons why he could be let go.

BJH YNWA (As well as having the likes of Villa, Messi, Iniesta, Pedro, Sanchez lying around - and Cuenca seems to have gotten the nod over him. Bojan may return next year, Affelay is still there and perhaps Fabregas could also do a job up-front a la Spain.)

ps - I mean...... I'm amazing at football, but even I might have trouble getting a look in that team.......

(It's not the final Barca squad either btw. So don't read into it too much - pretty sure it'll change before the deadline.)

Its really so hypocritical that Standard Chartered had soo much to say about the Suarez affair, yet they are accused of 'hiding' billions of pounds from Iran deals.
Oh, the dirty, dirty world of Business.
Nuff said.

07 Aug 2012 12:33:01
22M for Agger is a great defender yes but if i was looking at a player who gets injured so much it would be a consideration but only if we had sounded out genuine quality to come back in. But importantly if he aint willing to commit then def sell.

Suarez is going nowhere. Paper talk, why would we be after Gaston could arrive to keep the 3 happy playing together.

I think that the loan signings are the way forward to get rid of our average players strengthen with quality without outlaying loads on transfer fees especially if theres an agreement to possibly buy at the end. We re allowed 4 and theres plenty to choose from
MADRID, BARCA, even MAN C as a small example

Downing and Henderson will not be sold, they just need their potential unlocked and BR has got that knack.

Bellamy im afraid as a top earner will go, and Joe Cole i think also.

I think the Joe Allen if we get him cheaper will certainly see the end of Adams and Spearing will be moved on they just aint got enough quality about them and he knows it.

Id also buy BUTLAND asap and leave him at the BRUM and see what PEPE does.

Id rather have a hungry team with players busting a gut to play for us, than players sitting on a wage packet

07 Aug 2012 12:30:19
whats lfc nowadays? cheap players, loan player and getting rid of our best players. now we know why KD was removed, cos KD will never bring in cheap players and sell the best. BR never experience europe and never handle a big team. its seem the end of the road for my loved kops.

Really ?
who sold torres & meireles and then brought in some crap like adam, downing, carroll for inflated prices ? I'm sorry but the one big reason if we dont have enough direct cash to spend is bcoz of KK and that s*it Commoli wasting millions on average players last season..

07 Aug 2012 12:28:52
I really don't understand why everyone is getting worked up over all the players going out including Agger. We are only shifting the 30 plus year olds who are earning a ridiculous a mount of money. Plus if we get 20m for Agger it will be used to reinvest in players coming in.

If we only got Borini, Allen and Walcott and perhaps Butland in this transfer window then I would be more than happy with that. Plus we will start to introduce some of the younger players and ultimately save about 20m a year in player wages.

Everyone just needs to calm down and wait until the end of the transfer window.

Anyway, here is my hopes for the new squad.

Team One

Suarez Borini Walcott
Gerrard Lucas Allen
Enrique Skrtel Kelly G Johnson
Reina

Team Two

Sterling Carroll Downing
Adam Shelvey Henderson
Robinson Coates Carragher Flanagan
Butland

Additional Squad Players - Doni, Ward, Wisdom, Wilson, Sama, Coady, Spearing, Suso, Pacheco, Morgan.

PJ

What a team, no one can complain about that and people say we have no depth in our squad pffft...

Ed's, summing everything up from the past few weeks has there been any major changes to the following?

Possible;
Skrtel will sign a new contract
Agger will be sold for around £20m and replaced with Amorebieta
Bellamy to Cardiff
Carroll will leave and replaced with another striker
Some squad players likely to leave

We are trying to sign 6 players;
Allen (Swansea), Dempsey (Fulham) and a 'major star' signing on loan

Interest in; Walcott (Arsenal), Tello (Barcelona), Vargas (Fiorentina), Amorebieta (Athletic Bilbao), Mirallas (Olympiacos)

Rumoured; Quaresma (Besiktas), Villa (Barcelona), Kjaer (Wolfsburg), Zapata (Villarreal), Suarez (Anderlecht), Ramirez (Bologna), Afellay (Barcelona)

Thanks Ed's

SO is BR going to pay 15/20M for Allen. That would be a bad idea. Go for a player like Ramirez (now that his valuation has fall up to 16M) or Wanayama of Celtic.

Also some ppl saying no one is interested in the flops at the club. Well thats a very good idea to sell our best players who have interested parties and stick with the flops. WE NEED TO FORCE THEM OUT'

I can clearly see we would struggle to finish in top 7 even
if we keep the flops (Spearing, Cole, Downing, Adam & Carroll) and sell the likes of Agger & Suarez.

And big headed Carroll not wanting to leave, damn you...

Slate me if you want, the truth hurts, you might not believe it now nor want to believe, but once season kicks off and the heat turns on you would see the reality.

Thank you King Kenny & Commoli, Salute you too for then excellent job you have done in the past two transfer seasons.

Did BR say that we are paying 15mil for allen or is it paper talk?

Great points - well said Bosco!

I think carroll would be good when he gets a game......he can't cry is he isn't starting

Made up Carroll isn't going, why should he be pushed out? No one is going to slate you for your opinion, which is based on pure speculation and guesswork.

The reality is - no one knows who we are selling, and who we may be trying to buy, apart from those in the inside circle in the club.

Stop believing what you read.

As much as I am a fan of Agger, his 'injury record' is always a concern.
If LFC can get £22m plus for him, then it seems like a good deal.
I trust the money will be spent wisely on new players.

07 Aug 2012 12:14:09
just heard that liverpool are going to make a bid for, theo walcott of arsenal, joe allen of swansea and gaston ramirez of bologna. these would be good signings. also although he benn brilliant for liverpool fc over years its time we replaced jaime carragher or give him a coaching role

And you heard this where? Not in the national media surely.

Liverpool could pip Spurs to Sahin as Rodgers' relationship with Mourinho may help seal loan deal for Madrid midfielder
Liverpool have joined the race to sign Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin.
And Brendan Rodgers' close relationship with Jose Mourinho could give the Anfield club an edge over Arsenal and Tottenham in negotiations.
Spanish newspaper Marca says Liverpool want to take the Turkey international on a season-long loan, which could suit all parties.

If we get shahin on loan and ramirez for £16m who shud be bothered about allen and dempsey?

AVB also has a good relationship with mourinho!

eds / ed002...yesterday somebody posted about an announcement for today and that we would be hapy, somebody commented jokingly saying that standard chartered were off, but i believe this may actually be true due to their involvement in laundering money with iran! not sure wether this is the announcement but i believe that liverpool will be finding an alternative sponsor and sharply!!!!

This window is becoming strangely similar to January 2010 when we bartered and bartered over targets getting no one until we financed the move for Suarez and Carroll by selling Torres. Agger will go to Citeh, Suarez will go to Juve and then we will pay over the odds for Allen and for Walcott as a "replacement striker" whilst other clubs are buying up the talent. Ramirez will go somewhere else as we don't appear to really want him and we end up as a mid table selling club for the foreseeable future. Sort it out and show some ambition!

07 Aug 2012 11:44:57
Laudrup's recent comments are merely a (rather poor) example of bumping up a player's market value. Allen will join the minute we go back with a £15m bid and meet his buy-out clause. Scouts watched Gaston Ramirez play for Uruguay in the Olympics against UAE and again against Team GB and seem to be pretty impressed with his direct dribbling, adaptabilty and surprisingly excellent decision making and technical knowledge despite being so young and raw. Also interestingly, we'd already spoke to his representitives before the Olympics even started. Make of it what you will. Agger will be allowed to leave only if City meet the reported £24m asking price which if they did would be ludicrous for us to turn down for a player with a pretty extravegant history of injuries. I've also been told my source down south that we've all but pulled out of any deal for Dempsey as Fulham remain deluded in their valuation of the Texan and we will switch targets to this next lad; With Cristian Tello seemingly already frozen out at Barcelona, Rodgers will DEFINATELY press ahead with a loan deal + option to buy and he's seemingly Bellamy's replacement who will have a medical at Cardiff on Thursday. We ARE in the running to get Nuri Sahin on loan and if it goes ahead expect to see Spearing leave on loan and Charlie Adam will be sold to the highest bidder. These two will join Carroll and Wilson on the list of players we will entertain offers for, with the former's proposed move to West Ham breaking down, he looks to either stay or a switch back to old club Newcastle late in the window beckons. Adam Johnson has been looked at as has Ricardo Quaresma to play on the right-hand side. If Daniel Agger leaves expect that venezuelan lad from bilbao to come in or possibly Simon Kjær.
All I have at the mo Reds!

Loan with option to buy when he is out of contract?

07 Aug 2012 11:42:29
FSG are way over their head. They cant afford liverpool so why did they buy the club. Owners in the championship have deeper pockets then the bean farmer.

You should be lucky they did or they may not be a club today

in regards to agger moving to city why have so many people suggested us bringing adam johnson the other way in a player + cash deal i find 5 things very worrying about this if this deal if it comes to fruition:
1. he is OVERATED!! he isnt worth over £10m max.
2. he has attitued problems and thinks hes it.
3. he will command relatively high wages roughly the same as agger. which is just a joke cause then we will have to look a lesser quality players with the remaining cash in the deal to keep wage bill low.
4. we dont need another wide man we have cole, sterling, borini/suarez (they can alternate into any position in front 3 and since andy carroll is digging his heels in to stay they would most likely play off him anyway) downing, pecheco if he stays, Suso (hopefully he will get a couple of games) and gerrard cand do a good job if asked to play there (we saw last season that Hendo can't)
5. finally there are much better prospects we can get other than johnson in positions we need like up front with guidetti (hardly gonna get a game with city and is a great prospect with relatively low wages) and scipuzzi or in midfield with matias Suarez who looked a real decent prospect at the under 20 world cup earlier.
any thoughts eds on any of the players i mentioned Eds with any chance of getting them

dont understand why we are not rumoured for darren bent, we need to have proven players next year no speculative risks if rodgers doesnt get us back in top 4 then i doubt we ever will we will unfortunately become a top 10 team therefore sign proven prem players for next 2 years, bent would guarantee 20 goals

Why the hell would we buy Darren Bent when we are trying to sell Andy Carroll!!

Because he is rubbish

07 Aug 2012 11:36:12
John Arne Riise is in Liverpool city today with his new girlfriend.

I really do not want to or need to speculate why he is there.
Doesnt really matter anyways, cos like I said he is there. :-)

Riise is 1 of my favourite lfc players ever

Hi eds
Great site. Really enjoy all the rumours. Just a thought on today's big news. A few years ago Lampard ea linked with a move to inter all summer and then Chelsea called a "big" press conference similar to Liverpool today and announced Lampard had signed a new deal. Then in the next 3-4 days Chelsea signed almost all their targets because the players doubts over Lampard leaving we're quelled and they wanted to join to see why Lampard chose to stay. And guess who was working at mourihno's Chelsea at the time? Brendan Rodgers. So I expect Agger or Suarez signing a new contract to be the big news today. I'm 17 and definitely not itk but I've got a hunch this might be the big news {Ed002's Note - I hope your hunch comes true.}

07 Aug 2012 11:30:33
Looks like Chartered Standard going belly up will that effect us in any way ?? {Ed002's Note - You have leapt well ahead of the facts here.}

07 Aug 2012 11:29:52
Hi Ed002, I would appreciate your views on Standard Chartered and the accusations from the US. How do you see this playing out? Considering they were very vocal about other incidents at the club this can't be positive fro LFC or FSG...

Richards {Ed002's Note - It is too early to say and there would need to be much more information available in order to draw any conclusions. I really don't see this having a negative impact on LFC's image. An investigation would take some time - what could potentially be the biggest short term issue would be a temporary revoking of the NY license.

If you are interested in a clear statement of the situation without speculation you could perhaps look at what Barr has provided: tinyurl.com/cl8wkf5 }

Thanks Ed I'll take a look.

Richards

07 Aug 2012 11:25:17
So we (LFC) are going to sell Bellamy and Carroll who were 2nd and 3rd top goal scorers behind Suarez! Brendan must have a quality replacement! NOT a NEGATIVE!
Redmanluka

You are also forgetting the fact we have let maxi and kuyt (tow other prolific scorers) go and we have not got any replacement with just over three weeks remaining. we are treating joe allen like iniesta and i m sure any interest in ashley williams will make him look like terry/rio/carra. our show in the transfer market continues and i m sure other clubs and fans find this extremely entertaining.

07 Aug 2012 11:18:10
He failed a medical... Are u forgetting a certain demba ba

07 Aug 2012 11:13:42
You will never walk alone Brendan! Borini will follow you!

Rodgers is targeting average players who cost a fortune. I give him 6 months till the JSA.

How humourous, well done, how many weeks did it take for you to come up with that...

It just came to me today really! Unlike you I don't have to write my jokes down first then study them!

Unlike you i dont feel the need to write negative "jokes" on a website for liverpool supporters

Is this not called the banter page?

07 Aug 2012 11:10:17
Hey ed's. You guys may know more about this kind of stuff than I would so here It goes. It has recently been found that standard chartered are being investigated for some dodgy dealings with Iran and other countries and are in serious trouble with the US financial regulator not to mention there shares have already plumeted. If found guilty they could be fined an obscene amount of money and have there banking licence in the US revoked and I am guessing this will have a crippling effect on them financially. So my question is how would this effect there sponsorship with Liverpool and would we possibly look at cancelling our deal with them after this latest revelation as I am sure the club would not want to be associated with such a corrupt corporation (obviously this is hypothetical until they are found guilty or not).
Lastly could you post this on the rumours page as I wouldn't mind reading other peoples opinions on this matter too

Cheers

Gary {Ed002's Note - I would not worry about this immediately. If the situation becomes such that the sponsorship can no longer be maintained then no doubt the business will look toward finding another sponsor.}

07 Aug 2012 11:08:40
Hi Eds is it not true that agger said he would never play for another prem club i can understand if its barcalona he wants to go to who wouldnt want to play there but i wish liverpool would put up a fight to keep him going to be really hard to replace his talent and we are finding it very dificult to sign any decent players as it is .If Man city do take him i for one would be gutted unless the gave us top money to buy shawcross and a.johnston maybe i could live with that. {Ed002's Note - I really don't know what he said regards playing for other clubs in the EPL but I would take pretty much anything trite sounding said by a player with a pinch of salt.}

07 Aug 2012 11:07:16
Oh come on! Look who arsenal are signing! Giroud, podolski, and now cazorla. All who are stars in there respective leagues. We are trying to jump from 8th to beyond arsenal yet they are clearly improving their starting 11. How can we compete when we are trying to sign Joe Allen and Clint Dempsey, which are costing the same as what arsenal paid for giroud and podolski. What's going on! Get your finger out! Jayo

True... Man United, Chelsea, Man-City, Spurs and now Arsenal making "big name" signings but very few of them will be successful IMO, Hazard is nowhere near the finished article, Podolski in pants, these Brazilians are over-rated, not saying its gonna be easy for Liverpool to break into the top 4, its gonna be very tough this season BUT we're getting there, if we sign Allen/Ramirez, Adam Johnson/Daniel Sturridge and another striker we'll be very strong IMO. Swansea proved with average players they could compete against any team in the Premier League in their first season, Liverpool have far better players and once Rodgers installs his playing patterns at Liverpool we'll be very hard to beat.

Rocky

And how are we supposed to persuade these international players to come to a club without Champions League football?

And for all of Arsenal's 'strengthening' don't forget they are poised to lose Van Persie this season.

JRG

Agree we're not looking good!

No they will be forced to have no sponsorship forever......sorry someone had to say it

07 Aug 2012 11:05:00
Hi eds appreciate all your hard work.
I think too many people are worrying about the comments made by laudrup. He obviously wants to keep his best players and wants to get the most money if he has to sell, hence his comments regarding allen's quality and value.
They should be taken with a pinch, every manager does it.

Thanks eds

Fenway what are your intentions??=Agger and now seemingly Suarez!!

Put the newspapers down for gods sake

07 Aug 2012 11:10:22
Wtf-Now Suarez our only pacey, skillfull dribbler playmaker(Bellamy off too),looks like offski.Poison chalice for Rodgers-star names apparently off, changed, depleted side possibly.Guys on loser(at least in short term)before he starts.

07 Aug 2012 10:56:08
I think Quaresma is a great idea - he's a good winger, cheap, and at 28 would hold the fort until Sterling is ready. Give him a 3 year contract, play him for 2 seasons, sell him cheap in his last year, free replacement in sterling (as long as he's still with us)

I want to see Walcott sign and hopefully it will happen.

Could Johnson be used as a make weight in any dagger deal to City?

07 Aug 2012 10:53:02
FSG make the blackburn owners look good. I hate the fact they have put liverpool in a position where we need to sell to buy. Not improve just replace. Agger will never be replaced by someone of the same quality.

What an person. Do you realize we have one of the highest wage bills in the league and if you didn't notice last season we finished 8th, the wage bill needs to come down and giving Agger a new contract worth 100k a week to play on average 20 games a season isn't good business. Why don't you go and support Blackburn!

Come on, bit drastic, so ur saying for a player who played less than 50% of his time here you would rather keep, a player who already has had to be bubble-wrapped from competitive football this season due to his fragility, u would turn down £20m+? i'd take it, buy some one more likely to play a season however much i like agger. Even if he goes to city, we know where the weak spot is in the defence...

I have been trying to work out precisely what is meant by the derogatory term "an person". The use of "an" would indicate that the "person" part begins with a vowel, but I can't get any further than that. I appreciate that it must be something generally unprintable, and I would appreciate a clue as to the true meaning. Can anybody help?

I feel if we dont buy established players were going to fall behind massively. Look at Chelsea! Come Liverpool buy a player and put a smile on my face!!!

Hi guys/gals/eds,as the season opener fast approaches lots of names are being tossed around as possible signings,In my mind we only need three players an alonso type(which are few and far beetween) a right winger and somebody to bang the ball in the the net,and we should finance these signing by offloading the( lets call them misfits)and there are plenty of them,It must be very differcult for the manager to get it all together in such a short space of time not having seen some of his first team players in practice he must still be having trouble finding his way to the ground never mind signing some of the players mentioned in the press etc,I have a question for those who know the answere how many of last seasons SWANSEA team was signed by roberto martinez and who were they( Im just curious)so lets all hope that we have a great new season and finish in the top 4 and see some nice football along the way.(godin)

07 Aug 2012 10:46:31
Will there be less money for transfers with Standard Charterered shares plummeting? {Ed002's Note - No.}

Is there any money for transfers without selling r is it better these new owners start looking for a buyer that can afford 1 of the biggest clubs in the world.

07 Aug 2012 10:46:25
How can BR even contemplate selling carroll before he had even seen him train

How do you know he did?

Because Carroll is censored and can't play in new system. Even David Blunkett can see that, or a manc would know that and they know nowt about football. Redevon

Neither has the rest of the squad!

Could well have been used to scare the big man into actually training with some effort and sort his personal life out. It is well documented that his efforts in training last season was lax, and he kept on going on the beer and pies. Maybe Rodgers thought to sort this out ASAP.

07 Aug 2012 10:45:47
matias suaez has been signed for 12 mill. will be official confirmation later today or tomorrow at the latest.

What time is he doing his medical at LoL.

So your saying matias Suarez wouldn't be an improvement on our club just because he failed a medical at cska. I hope we do get Suarez would be a quality addition.

07 Aug 2012 10:43:50
Arsenal look a really strong team now, especially if they keep the likes of Van Persie. Could possibly free up room for the signing of Theo Walcott?

They do look good

Song, Cazorla, and Wilshire in a midfielder 3 with Podolski, Walcott and RVP/Giroud will be a test for many sides.

I still think they're suspect at left back and goalkeeper, but they're in good shape

RedSG

07 Aug 2012 10:42:08
ed who would you prefer to sell if you had to. AGGER or SKRTEL and how much do you reckon we value them at

BTW if we did sell either of them isnt Coates a readymade repalcement or do people have no faith in him all of a sudden.

Rays Of Red {Ed002's Note - It is not really a case of who I would want to sell, but with CArragher in his final year it is likely someone else will come in.}

For me Sama impressed so far in pre-season, we have Kelly, Coates, Coady who are all good enough to replace Carragher IMO.

Rocky

Coady not a centre half, nor is he particularly good in midfield.
Tommy

I think that we have a ready made replacement for Agger in Danny Wilson, although he probably needs another year which is why id rather lose skrtel.

I agree i think wilsons done a great job every time hes been called upon. left back not his position though, he must be played centrally

07 Aug 2012 10:40:18
I am really not looking forward to the new season, looking at the standard of players bought by the teams we are hoping to be competing with for a top 4 finish, and the standard of players we are rumoured to be interested in, also loads of rumours about all our best players leaving, sack BR before we end up in the championship.

LFC may not be signing Hazzard, Oscar, Carzola, etc, but it's not BR's fault.

Firstly, the club need the transfer fee for these players. Secondly, the club needs the income to meet wage demands for these players. Thirdly, these players have to actually want to come to LFC (trophies?, CL?).

At the moment, some or all of these are not possible for LFC to lure top players.

These things are beyond BR's control.

LFC_SA

Thats the worse statment ever a ball has not been kicked and he wants buck sacked go away and support 1 of them other teams and shut the door on way out goodriddence.tommy Irish Red

Agree 1000 per cent.

You're not looking forward to the season...and you're a football fan. How depressing for you

07 Aug 2012 10:39:21
Another head-ache for Brendan Rodgers as other clubs try to screw us because of the "great work" Damien Comolli did for LFC!! Laudrup is right in what he said, we bought Henderson for well over the odds (£16m), now Laudrup is saying Allen is a better player and is worth alot more than Henderson! Obviously Laudrup wants to keep Allen at Swansea but now i feel if Allen has his heart set on a move to Liverpool then Laudrup may be persuaded to settle for £16m+ add-ons if we get Champions League football which seems fair. We dont have the money to buy Gaston Ramirez and Allen so it'll be one of them to sign. Think if Dagger leaves we already have a good replacement in the squad in Seb Coates, took him a while to settle but he is a very good defender and has a great left foot.

Rocky

Coates is right footed!

No hes left footed

07 Aug 2012 10:33:09
FSG keep talking about buying for the future and building a team, then the investment has to be made.
How can we build for the future if we are having to sell players to buy.
just as an example ramirez age 21 16m, joe allen age 22 15m borini 21 8m, are these not players for the future ?!
dempsey and quaresma 10m and 7m respectively,

total 49m for 5 players.
a good blend of youth and experience

look how much the top teams have spent in comparison and we are meant to be able to catch these teams but first we must sell our players to buy.

Jaydee ynwa {Ed002's Note - The business of transfers is far from as simple as people think.}

Well said Ed. People are living in their dreamland.

Its very simple, all paid through paypal

Why is asking the owners of a club that claim they want to turn said club into the best in europe to spend a decent amount of money on player transfers, build a new stadium as promised and keep hold of our better players living in a dreamland.
Answer me that ? if you think were ever going to be able to win the premiership while relying on the revenue from anfield and the promotion of youth players, then theres only one person here living in a dreamworld pal.
Jaydee Ynwa

A tad patronising that ED002 dont you think ? it seems pretty simple for the likes of man utd, arsenal, and chealsea, at the moment would you not agree ?
ive been a fan now for 30 years, yes the media are probably making things sound a lot worse than they are but i am begining to complety lose faith in fsg, exactly the same as i did with h+G, yes they pumped a load of money into the transfers to begin with and then began to force the manager sysematically strip the team of all its best players to be able to buy players to improve the team, well that just doesnt work.
one of the criteria when the club was sold was that there would be enough funds to provide for transfers and a new stadium.
Jaydee ynwa {Ed002's Note - It is not being patronising Jaydee it is simply how it is. It is very easy to say "Kagawa moved to Manchester United for £10M we should have bought him" but does Liverpool need the player, does the club want the player, would the player want to join Liverpool, can Liverpool offer enough wages. Moura is a good current example of transfers not being easy. Chelsea spending an entire summer trying to sort out a deal for Neymar show it is not easy. People only see the money spent on transfers and conveniently forget the cost of running the club on a day-by-day basis - paying staff, paying for Ploicing at games, paying the electricity bill. The club has lost on average £1M per week since FSG arrived. The club is still looking for players - Allen, Walcott possibly, the "star" loan, Amorebieta - the list goes on.}

07 Aug 2012 10:32:35

Not part of the gossip page but seen a few posts on other sites and heard a few whispers that Ryan Babel is being watched by premiership sides..... No mention of us but I would like to see him back :)

Also I have noticed over the last few weeks people saying Reinas leaving and who to replace him? After 1 good game there were people mentioning 'Butland' I think whoever buys him no matter who your current keeper is you HAVE to pick him as first choice, all the keepers we have bought and left on the bench, Carson, Kirkland and so on and now they're mediocre! Cassillas, Buffon, Valdes were no1 at 17/18 just like Joe Hart is now and also De Gea at UTD
If Reina goes! Butland in!
Fits our transfer policy also :)

Eds, can you see us buying a player who either plays in the Portuguese league or are from Portugal?
Lately we've been linked with, Gaitan, Manuel Fernandes and Ricardo Quaresma...

Quaresma has failed to make a good impact in any big team, but is that not the special thing with BR? He can make bad wings into world class wings?
Nathan Dyer, Who would've expected HALF of what he did?(Not saying that Dyer is world class)
The point is we have to have faith in our new manager!

IraqKop {Ed002's Note - Out of those I would guess Quaresma is more likely that the others.}

07 Aug 2012 10:26:46
i dont post very much, But eds i am a very concerned liverpool supporter, as i am hearing now suarez is linked to leave, agger is going, Allen is priced to high.W e have lost on a few targets, I am very worried about the future of my beloved liverpool fc. The chances of our big signings going and get big money, for me we will be buying cheap players we dont know enough about, Times are concerning.
Teeno1lpool

You are hearing media rumours that's all, and it appears you are believing them - exactly who have we bid on or missed out on? - I haven't seen or read any direct quotes from Liverpool about realistic bids for any players. Juventus, and other teams always try to do business in the media to try and force cheaper purchases, I seem to have read a direct quote from BR that he has no intention of letting Saurez leave, and also that Andy Carroll has a role to play at the club - categorically denying that there was any agreement with West Ham and a loan - just media lying again ( and West Ham of course ).

why don't liverpool try to do a swap: agger for adam Johnson? plus a few million for us

AJ plus 'a few million' for Agger? If by a 'few' you mean over 15 million then that would be reasonable. MC bought Lescott for 22 million which leads to a valuation of Agger at 25-30 million. How much is AJ worth - he's a reasonably talented winger but inconsistent and with a reputation as a poor trainer and a bit of an ego. His value is probably determined by how much Sunderland would be prepared to pay for him - 10 million tops? Once we start looking at 12-15 million plus AJ then such a deal starts to look plausable.

Because Agger is class, and Johnson isn't, and is a bit part player whose value has in no way increased since he left Middlesborough for 7 million.

John B

Because he has behavoural problems off the pitch thats why he is not playing as much for city mancini doesnt like his lifestyle and personally i wouldnt want him if that is the case. i think if we were to get anyone of city i think it should be some of their youth player cause they are looking good. maybe John Guidetti and Luca Scapuzzi are both worth a shout.
stewynoodle93

I guess Mancini loves balotelli s lifestyle then! It's simple math aj is not good enuf to be a regular starter for them!

Can someone please explain what is happening at LFC. I have a number of questions:

1. Why has the stadium decision taken nearly two years under FSG? We want to make the right decision but 2 years.

2. The most important players at any club are the ones that are already there. That is what the club use to say. Not anymore going by what they are doing with Agger and Carroll. If they stay will they really want to be here anymore after they way they been treated

3. The PR crap about we will be really excited about players coming to our club. In fact all we have seen to date is players leave the club or be touted to leave the club.

You can call me negative if you like. I have been going to LFC for thirty years and have the right to an opinion. We are more EFC at the moment touting prices of our players to the media.

If we have a genuine desire to have a go at the top four the club need to show this desire, if not and we are skint and need to sell to buy please let us fans know the score.

I've thought all along that FSGs plan is to up Liverpool's commercial revenue streams and then decide what they really want to do with the club. I don't think they themselves know what to do with the club just yet... let' be ho9nest, the Champions League spot was far more important to them (and I mean to them) than it is to supporters. To us it's a ribbing from other fans, to them it's 10s of millions and that leaves a financial hole that they won't fill. {Ed002's Note - FSG want to do the best for Liverpool and build the business and brand to put the company in to a sustainable position. The Champions League brings a significant source of revenue.}

And where have you heard about Agger and Carroll - as a 30 year fan, you know media make up stories about players leaving or signing - have LFC put out any statement whatsoever about Agger or Carroll being sold?
All BR has said some time ago is that EVERY footballer has a price, and if that price is met then consideration would be given - and I understand that to mean EVERY player, without exception.

John B

Would you rather they rushed the stadium decision and made a mess of it? Or do things properly and ensure the future of the club for many years to come?

I remember previously reported that Allen'sc contract has a buy-out clause for 15M. How come Landrup asking for 20M now? Confused...

Watched a film called MONEYBALL in relation to a system which was adopted by fsg (boston), the sox won there first world series with this system.

Buying under valued players, players with potential who have struggled, and bringing in young players with potential.

I to I hope LFC pick up in the market, but I feel the owners and rodgers have a plan which may take 2 years to come to fruitition.

Its not ideal but I feel it may be the only way. YNWA.
GINGERVIKING {Ed002's Note - Moneyball is very specificalloy only applicable to baseball. Nothing to do with football.}

Red Sox never used the Moneyball system to win their championship; in fact they are in the top 4 in the highest payroll in baseball while the Oakland a's where very near the bottom. I have watched baseball all my life and I know that the red sox have tried to use this system since they are very rich.

We got carroll, henderson and downing using a technique similar to moneyball and that turned out so well for us didn't it.
stewynoodle93

Moneyball was the name given to the theory based on statistics, Its focus is the team's analytical, evidence-based, saber-metric used to put together a highly competitive team at a low cost.

In theory this system could be used to put together a team in any category of sport.

Jaydee ynwa {Ed002's Note - It is based solely on baseball statistics. No such statistics exist for football.}

It's difficult to buy "under valued players" when your name is Liverpool FC. Once Liverpool come in for a player the valuation seems to soar and alert other bidders. Most new managers get a marque signing. I hope BR does too as I think it boasts morale for players and fans.

Ed 002 I'm not arguing the point that moneyball was based on baseball, the point i'm making is "in theory this type of statistically based method of scouting can also be used in any team sport where statistics are extensively available, opta stats pretty much tell you how many times a player farts during a game.
How does everybody know joe allen had the second highest pass completion rate in European football. statistics!
what i'm saying is given a decent size budget using statistics alone a team could be put together for know where near the cost of the man city team and compete comfortably with them, using a statistically based method of scouting players.
IN THEORY
Jaydee ynwa {Ed002's Note - I have zero interest in discussing this. Sabermetrics is based upon baseball players who pretty much stand still, pitch and bat. There are no statistics whatsoever that are comparable in football. None. Anybody wishing to draw conclusions from Opta stats may do so, but it is nothing whatsoever to do with Moneyball.}

I think everyone looks at agger with rose tinted glasses, yeah great defender when fit but the guys a sick note and 20m for him is like us paying 20m for downing, take it buy sakho and use the change towards another sale. Fester

Not a good example in my opinion. When villa lost downing and young they dropped down to near relegation after being a mid-table team
GOD

Got to agree about agger, a bit like the van persie situation, one good season staying fit out of how many? take the money and run before they change their mind

Why would we buy sakho. he isn't as good as some of you people say.

Hi, does anyone know of the clubs financial power at the moment to buy players? A while ago ago tom werner said we can compete with anyone financially. however while clubs have busy in the market we bought borini. is this cos the money isnt there or the club not being able to get deals done?sometimes to try and get players at a good price means we dont get the players we want i.e siggurson {Ed002's Note - The standard answer applies. FSG will no doubt support the manager within reason but they are already paying out a lot of money just on the day-to-day running of the club. They need to ensure that money that is spent is well spent. I rather think Werners commenst were taken out of context - they are not in a position to spend like certain other clubs do.}

I think also that it is sensible to put out the impression that we will not just spend money for the sake of it. If you say we will buy like MCFC then prices will be hiked up by the selling club. Everyone will look at deals in shops rather than just pay the price requested by the seller.

07 Aug 2012 10:13:10
Rodgers sed he's got someone very excitable for us and ended up getting borini, yea he might score 60 goals but I wasn't really excited wen we got him. This big news or star loanee news isn't gunna be somebody like david bentley or matt jarvis is it

Its going to be Ngog

07 Aug 2012 10:11:27
Any updates on the potential exciting news today? Apparently it had something to do with things other than transfers, but would excite the fans.

Laudrup trying to say Allen is worth 20million omg he's only worth about 5! But I'm actually really worried now cause I think BR is stupid enough to sell agger and for 20mil and waste it all on a s*** player we do not need (Allen) just hope we can bring in Ramirez and a few more QUALITY players

These posts make me laugh:
for 1 he said he is worth 20 mil to try and raise allens price every club does it.
for 2 i bet your a player who has typed ramirez into youtube watched his best its and thought he was god. allen is a very very good player

For rodgers system we need someone like allen

If BR does that then so be it. e is in a much better position to manage our team than you.

Not saying this is nailed on but a friend of mine who has been right before is adamant that the loan signing will be Kaka. Not sure how i would feel if this is the case to be honest, has looked like a has-been since he left Milan. Anybody else heard anything along these lines?

07 Aug 2012 10:05:23
morning eds, anyone know how this news about standard chartered will affect the club? if at all.
thanks
mr1989 {Ed002's Note - It won't in the short term.}

07 Aug 2012 10:02:51
dont think this is true. but you never know. we are putting a cheeky bid of 18.7 million for rvp to see if he is intrested in coming to us

07 Aug 2012 10:02:31
Ed mate do you think if let say offers come in 30/35 million for suarez then he will be sold and 2 do you think new ground or redevelop anfield is taking time coz of lack of champions league.

{Ed002's Note - My views on Suarez are pretty well documented already. As for the ground I would expect Anfield to be redeveloped and it is not related to the Champions League.}

07 Aug 2012 10:00:51
laudrup saying that joe allen is worth 20m,how can he demand that when allen has got a clause in he's contract for 15m.

07 Aug 2012 09:54:12
If Luadrup says Allen is worth 20 mill then I say leave him there 10 mill is all he is worth!

07 Aug 2012 09:53:01
"But he also knows he's very, very expensive. We saw they bought a couple of midfielders in the last few years for a lot of money, but with all due respect Joe is on a level above."

Is that true? Micheal Laudrup seems to think so...

Gone are the days when a Manager or Chairman of a club like Swansea would have been delighted to let one of their players further their careers/development.
Now its all about the money. Do you think Laudrup desperatley wants to keep Joe? Or is he trying to get an extra 10mil on the deal to strengthen his squad? That extra 10 mil is more or less the same amount every established Brittish player is overpriced by. We have gone down that route far too often now, its becoming a pattern. We rarley get it wrong with "high profile" players like Mascherano, Torres, Reina etc. The problem is keeping those kind of players because we can still atract Top players from abroad no problem, its keeping them thats the key, but even so when we do part ways with them its for good money because other clubs will pay top dosh for our top players. Unless they are special, which of our Brittish players would command a big transfer fee and wage at a top club in continental Europe? Only Brittish clubs will end buying Adam, Downing, Henderson. Im not saying they are bad players but who would have bought Poulsen, Veronin, Babel, Javanovic had they been British?

I say lets take a punt on this Ramirez kid, one or two of those loan signings to add depth to the starting eleven. Some good players (who not by any fault) just should not be wasting their time wacthing the likes of Xavi, Inesta, Messi, Alonso, Ozil, Ronaldo etc passing the ball from the dug out.

Hope we get some players in sooner rather than later. We saw what a bad start Arsenal had with trying bed in new players and while going for the three points.

Really enjoy this site, great job Eds this is my first post and hope it goes through

Sam

When the club has one of the best young british midfielders in a long time, I'd forgive them for wanting more bang for their buck. It's exactly the same as some of us (not me though) demanding that Suarez won't leave for less than 50m. It's an overly-inflated price based on his value to the club.

What happened to the gentlemans agreement

Who thinks Joe Allen is one of the most exciting British midfielders in ages get a grip.

Cleverley
Wilshere
Morrison
Shelvey
Henderson

the list is much bigger get a grip we are getting fisted by Swansea because they are unhappy with us and becuse they can.

Kopping a feel

If we get Nuri.Sahin does that mean we won't get Allen beacause Sahin Lucas and gerrard would be awesome!

Why do other posters get slated on here for voiceing there opinions on here especially if they don't conform to the rose tinted posters opinions they get told to do one and go and support other teams, people are entitled to say what they want and different opinions are vital to keep everyone on there toes by thinking about what the post says and also keep us from being drones.

Now keep a open mind and look at our club and the current questions being asked,(1)we now seem a selling club but who have we sold, know one we didnt want to keep(2) why havn't we signed more players and why, weve got no money and are in a financial crises and we may be back in the bargin basement shopping again or were just closed to signing players and everything is being kept secret (3) FSG are no different to the other Americans and are only in it for the money well daaaaa they running us as a business and are only it for the money because it is a business, and if you want a successful business you have to spend money, and at the minute it doesn't look like they are spending on the outside they are cutting out the debts and trying to streamline us but I think they are doing it on the cheap IMO.

I'm not a fan I'm a supporter and will do just that but I won't be wearing rose tinted glasses though cheers pk

I was prepared to listen to what you were saying until you said we were in a financial crisis... Clueless mate.

Also, you say they are cutting debts 'on the cheap'. I'd love to know a good way to slash debt whilst spending a ton.

Lol so in your opinion mate the planet is not in a financial crises all the big boys like the Arabs and other well off people have taken a hit and are not throwing money about and FSG are no different and we have no sugar daddy like Chelsea to finance a rebuild but most of what he has spent is down to winning the champs league or it sounds like your minted as you have not noticed the economic crises cheers pk

There's a difference between voicing an opinion and being a compleat dooch. An opinion would be, Adam is not good enough for us and I'm worried about the lack of transfers. A dooch would say fsg have done nothing since buying the club and, they've just succeeded in turning us into a mid table team. Most of us fans on here are realistic optimists, I.e . One or two new faces in the squad and we can get fourth. All this carp about Newcastle and spuds having better squads is complete sh,:e. Newcastle had a freak, one off season and spuds have just just taken a step back by sacking Harry, not sayin avb is a bad manager but it took Harry 3 years to get them there and avb has to take them further and do it without modric and adebayor, which in my view is bigger challenge than the one he had at Chelsea. To sum up I trust and support fsg and Rodgers untill they give a big reason not to and we have a good chance of fourth this season with our main challenge coming from arsenal and without rvp there squads not all that great and my glasses are tinted I'm just optimistic because to me being a fan is believing we can do it. You never catch a fish if you don't think your going to catch a fish. Supporting is believing. We don't like negative comments on here because we like to stay positive and believe it will happen. 4th but probably 5th this season with or without Carroll, Suarez, agger and skrtle. If they stay then great but if they go them br will replace them.

Eric the red (realistically optimistic)

07 Aug 2012 09:46:57
All the rumours I've seen linking us with Swansea players. I reckon it would be easier for FSG to sell their shares, use the money to buy Swansea and re-name the club FCLiverpool the 2nd. Then we wouldn't need to buy Allen and co!!

06 Aug 2012 22:26:51
Ed could this money laundering situation with standard charted affect Liverpools sponsorship deal. I hear standard charted could and probably will lose their licence to trade. Thanks. {Ed002's Note - Potentially, yes. I would not worry about it just yet though.}

Yes and they had the audacity to threaten to pull out because of what Luis Suarez said. Hypocrites.

Rumours of Dzeko going to Milan. Any chance of a straight swap for Agger?

Hello chaps!
A yod coming in peace.
Commiserations fellas.
Have never liked ye, but it ain't one iota pleasant seeing a once mighty rival imploding like this. I would hope you get yer act together soon.
But the wilderness wont be entirely without good, you will the learn the humility you so appallingly bereft of. Good luck fellas.

ed002 I'm sure you are aware that we hold interest Gastan Ramirez, with the scousers and inter reportedly watching as well. So ed002, with inter dilly-dallying and LFC skint and their interest fairly doubtful, would it be fair to say that Ramirez nailed on for the Lane? Remember his agent was also in London to have talks with interested party, could it have been us?
Please answer ed.

{Ed002's Note - Certainly not nailed on for Tottenham Hotspur - and really a question to ask me on the Spurs page.}

That awkward moment when a spurs fan thinks they are a 'rival' to Liverpool. Your club has never been more than the annoying buzz of a fly in the ear of LFC.

Crikey Moses! A Spurs fan referring to LFC as a 'once great rival'?! Lets look at recent honours shall we, say, trophies won in the last decade (this is in fairness to Spurs as we know who wins if we go 'historical'); Spurs have won one league cup since 2002, LFC have won 2 league cups, the FA cup and the Champions League (plus runners up in PL, something Spurs have never done). Granted they have been above us in the league for a couple of years (during unprecedented turmoil for the club) but the reality is that Spurs on the up and us having dropped down a level means that for the first time in 3 decades Spurs can claim to be one of our rivals.

I pretty much lost interest with the spurs and come in peace bit,but i thought id read on just to see if there was anything of a subject matter i could relate and adhere to,but i have to say, like so many white hart jessies before you,i find nothing but emptiness at your obvious attempt of a put down, but enjoy your new manager and your new hairstyles as we as you so forthrightly pointed out without humility laugh as your new manager takes a dump on the green green grass of home, are you watching white hart lane.

Just wait and see mr yod llolloollollollmao redknapp made that team pal AVB will destroy it like the did at chelsea pal

Hi eds, love this site. If we do sell a striker,in ur honest opinion who do u think we will get realistically? Personally I think 4th is our goal, it shall be tough but not impossible. Ty eds

No wonder the Allen deal is taking an age Swansea want in excess of £20 mil...

Tomsy

Going by what happened with siggurdson, I think this deal is off, all will depend on if joe Allen really wants to come to us.

I wouldn't worry tomsy, it is just to appease the fans aswell. Allen is only interested in moving to LFC at the moment which gives swansea nothing to barter with. Obviously that could change but that's how it is. I don't think BR would be held to ransom by his former club. Think he will just move on if £20 million is what they stick with.

Jordan

p.s - Might be reading into it but did anyone see how allen and suarez shock hands at olympics in GB v UR looked friendly already. Just an observation. {Ed049's Note - And did you see how Coates and Allen wrestled during the game?}

I thought it was too obvious when allen and bellamy kept blowin each other kisses and winking

Only fools pay over the odds or men with more money than some nations , please fsg learn from carroll , downing, henderson, adam etc etc enough is enough , good luck to fsg red mick tag

Ramirez wants to come to Liverpool fc but his agent trying to convince him otherwise!

Any news on the stadium ED? thanks {Ed002's Note - Nothing right now - you should alsways keep an eye on the Council planning website.}

A new stadium we would have to sell anfield or trade it in with FSG

07 Aug 2012 08:47:48
Not a rumour, but reports suggesting Standard Chartered are "rogue institution" and in effect shares have plummeted. Is there any reprocusions for LFC?

EON were Man Utd sponsor remember

Not really only thing i can think of is if liverpool were to cancel the shirt sponsorship deal due to the bad press, but it is highly unlickly given that no other business will be willing to sponsor our shirts for £20m + per year without us being in champions league for the next 2-3 years.
stewynoodle93
what do you think Eds {Ed002's Note - The bad press a sponsor gets would likely not reflect badly on Liverpool. I would not worry too much just yet but certainly SC have their issues.}

AON was Man Uts's sponsor, not EON...and you might also confuse them with AIG.

07 Aug 2012 08:47:11
Eds are you not frustrated that we are signing anyone? What are we waiting for as season starts next week. We seem to always dither in transfer market.

Neilp {Ed002's Note - Everything is in hand.}

Thanks ed002, just feel we are too slow in transfer market

I'm always somewhat calmed after seeing a 002 response such as this. Must admit to having a bit of a wobble myself the last couple of days but I've realised the glass is still half full again and ready to go!

07 Aug 2012 08:42:47
My dear friends overseas. I regret to inform you that fsg is not having the best of times right now. They bought a big shot baseball manager last year and he totally flopped. They gave him a big contract and now they have to fire him in september. Money that would have been spent on transfers is now going into the kitty for the next red sox manager. We are lucky if we we get allen but don't expect anything more. Other than that all funds must be generated by sales

Doubt it. That's poor business if that's the case. One compnay's workings should not effect the workings of another company.

Nice try - but I can't imagine anyone on here buying into your nonsense. For a start the books for business's would be entirely seperate. Laughable post...

07 Aug 2012 07:17:52
I would not let Agger leave and would increase his wages and contract. He is the best defender at the and is world class. In my opinion it would be a massive mistake in leting him go. Skrtel cannot play with Carra or Coates..I'm liking Rodgers and the way he is going about the job saying the right things but please don't make your first big mistake Brendan! On the other hand is it Agger who wants out? It would be a bit two faced after the "I want to stay for a long time" quote wouldn't it? Only time will tell I suppose but I would be dissapointed!

Rich

How many games do you think Agger will miss due to injury?

Let him go and give one of the younger lads Coates, or Kelly ago. they are good players with the potential to be great.20 million for a player who keeps breaking down is a no brainer.

How many games will Gerrard miss? Should we sell him too?

How much do you think gerrard is worth ? hes 33.
let the older players loose their legs on sombody elses grass.

Ssn reporting Swansea want 20 m for Allen. Surely we wont pay that for Allen who at most is worth 10 million in my eyes.

If he has a reported buy out clause of £15m, then surely we won`t have to go above that? or is it up to Swansea to set any price they wish?

Matty p

15m release clause?? {Ed002's Note - Rather too much is being made of "release" and "buy out" clauses.}

07 Aug 2012 08:41:51
Do Fenway not realise(or maybe its asset stripping)Star players would be more settled, and us fans if they brought in quality names,but-real quality! All the unrest and lotve departure rumours be quelled overnight with x3 TOP quality signings

That's a good idea, thank god you posted, I'll pass it on.

dd

They dont want to spend the god damn money when we are not in the champions league!!
they have said this all along that the club will have to be self sufficient to thrive. that means lowering the wage bill drastically then only increasing it once we have larger match day revenue ie. bigger stadium which we will only be able to when we are in the champions league, to bring us the best value for money deal. thats why there is an emphisas on buying young hugnry players on lower wages and watching them improve. this method is more than proven just look at tottenham their squad is vastly better yet they have a much lower wage bill sure we have better star players and MAYBE slightly margional better first team but as a squad they are well better. keep the faith!!!
stweynoodle93

07 Aug 2012 08:38:05
Swansea want 20 million for Allen. He is worth around 10. I think we are very foolish when it comes to selling players as if allens worth that Suarez is worth 70 million and Agger is worth 40 million.

07 Aug 2012 08:33:26
Hi Eds, a question that is directly related to transfer rumours... Do you think that with the shares of Standard Chartered sliding after the recent accusations by the US government will have any impact on the club's transfers? Surely the board will be a little worried about whether the bank will be able to see it's self through this and that funds may fall somewhat?

Cheers,

DHK {Ed049's Note - Try previous posts, there is a discussion going on.}

07 Aug 2012 05:14:16
from what i believe the loan signing is villa(my opinion) i reckon mascherano is convincing him to come over to liverpool on a season loan but agger going the other way lfc-ullah

Mascherano seemed to spend most of time advising players to leave Liverpool since he left. Remember, although he was terrific for us, he refused to play against Man City.

07 Aug 2012 08:21:21
anyone else slightly concerned with whats going on at the moment, getting rid of good players and being linked with poor players!

07 Aug 2012 08:18:01
Really trying to remain upbeat for the new season but does anyone else feel that we have an obvious £20m gap in the budget for whatever plans they want to implement?
First it was Carroll, then Skrtle and now Agger, someone will have to go before we can buy anyone methinks!

07 Aug 2012 08:15:41
Allen 10min (pos 15m depending on performances)
Agger no less than 20m
Dempsey 3m and Adam

07 Aug 2012 08:03:56
Liverpool will sign Allen and Walcott to complete their 1st choice attack. Lucas, Allen, Gerrard in midfield and Borini, Walcott, Suarez up front.

In defense we will only buy a starter if Agger or Skrtel leave. Any other incoming players will be squad or youth development.

Everyone sitting there saying rodgers out already :/ he's been incharge a month an people calling for the chop an moaning wer not signing cavani, hazard, higuin ( spelling ) but face it we can't afford too keep up with chelski, s***y, barca ECT we will never get any wer if fans don't get behind manager an stop calling for the chops after 1-2 months there's still 3-4 weeks of transfers window left Rodgers will do what he feels right & everyone is saying wer selling our best players Aurelio Bellamy kuyt ? Aqua man how wer they are best ? So either give the whole club your support or not at all in my opinion

Thanks Ed

Sponge Bob

He is buying really poor players and only talks about wanting to play like Swansea who pass the ball in their own half and don't go anywhere.

Buying really poor players? He's bought one. You think Borini is poor? Do you realise how good you have to be to make the Italy squad? One of the best footballing nations in the world?

Guess 11th is the best we can hope for this season, as we will have so much of the swans in our team

That's right he made the Italy team and is under 25 other than balotelli pretty much they're all late 20s or in their 30s

07 Aug 2012 06:41:30
I'm not exactly in the know and i dont claim this to be a true statement but i have heard alot of information and read alot of different articles suggesting that agger will leave for around 22million and will be replaced with simon kjaer. Also i believe that Allen will sign but Dempsey will not due to being out priced by fulham. I would love to see Gaston ramirez sign and i think there is a good chance this will happen as for the high profile loan signing i believe it has to come from one club and one club only (Real Madrid) no idea who though although alot of information points towards Kaka although not sure why we would want another CM.

Hey ed002. Personally i wouldn't mind if the club didn't go for Gaston Ramirez. I think that the money spent on Joe Allen will go to far better use than if it were spent on the over hyped Joe Allen. Have you any opinion on this?
Cheers. {Ed002's Note - I think you will see a fair amount of movement still this summer.}

07 Aug 2012 07:53:09
Who are the possible replacement available for Agger...Is Samba of blackburn available..?? {Ed049's Note - wake up, Samba plays for that Russian club whose name I can't spell.}

It's macalacccaaaaa thers a k in the to I think :/

It's Antsy Macarena.

i do think lfc have money to spend. how much no one knows. if any big offers are made for any of are players lfc will sell them. no matter who they are. alot of fans go on about how well br has spoke about the club and where he wants to take the club and how he wants us to play. the problem with that is. he wont get the time. if we dont have a good start to the season he will be out because the fans wont stand for it. every manger at any club should be given time but the problem with a club like lfc you dont. we want to win things because thats how it works at are club. as for the tranfers i still say br is a small fish in a big pond and will not be able to bring in top players. yes we are a big club no matter what some of you think on here but top players want to go to clubs that win and that is something we have not been doing. top players dont want to play for small time mangers. iam not taking anything away from the br. the way he set out his team last season. they were good to watch but all he had to do was keep them up. as for the lfc job its alot bigger than that. we dont just want to be in the top four we want to win it. to me i cant see br pull this off. he is not haveing the best of starts with the way he has handle the carroll thing. i think its going to be another long and hard season and not a happy one. this could set us back another ten years. i would love him to pull it off but just cant see it.

07 Aug 2012 07:18:25
2 possibilities for the loanee : Eto'o or Robinho?

Both rumoured to have appalling attitudes.

07 Aug 2012 07:15:06
This could be the worse summer in Liverpool history. We have a shocking manage than continues to say he wants to play like Swansea even though they are awful. They pass the ball around the back and go nowhere.

Additionally we are selling our best players and I also believe Suarez will leave. I will wait to the end of the window before judging as we may replace well but I doubt it.

We also shelled out close to 15 million plus wages for a very poor striker who yous all call a gem of a signing. Why do you think Roma let this gem leave then.

Dempsey is old and would struggle at a bigger club but thankfully he doesn't look to be coming.

The only good player all summer we have seriously looked at was sigurdson but we decided he wasn't worth 8 million. Are you serious Rodgers? To be fair this loan signing looks promising so I hope it's someone that can make a difference unlike joe Allen. Joe Allen is a better version of jay spearing but their is better alternatives like nuri sahin as this guy can control a game similar to what alonso could do.

Sorry for long post but it is true.

I bet br is so relieved that your going to wait till end of transfer window to judge him You really seem to know your stuff.

Daveevad

Dempsey is a top quality footballer. The rest of your post is worth ignoring too.

No surprise that you didn't put a name to this rubbish - go away

Puzzled

You say you will wait until the end of the window before judging and yet you crucify the manager calling him shocking, Seems to me you have already judged well before the end of the window.

07 Aug 2012 14:14:34
What are you on about? Swansea had an exceptional season given the quality of their squad! If you remember rightly we really struggled against them, and they gave utd a hard time last season. I don't want to be disrespectful to Swansea, but their best players are Allen, Vorm and Sinclaor, and BR had a group of decent players as turned them into a team that were very hard to play against. LFC have Gerrard, Suarez, a top defense, and a lot of players who will be great given a few seasons. Macca has said another 6 players to come in, so why not save your moaning for the end of the window when we have signed no one? You have no idea who BR wants to bring in, you have no idea what plans he has. He won't just let players go unreplaced, we won't get to the end of the window with too few players to compete, so why not give him a chance? We all want something to happen, but we have to be patient. And I really hope BR doesn't look on this site, because then he will realise what a whining bunch comes with the team he took over.

We should back the team, players old and new and manager 100%.

They all need to be given a chance on the pitch.

However it's not disloyal to question the running of the club. FSG didn't buy Liverpool and clear it's debts, it acquired Liverpool on the cheap by clearing it's debts. There is a big difference.

As for those saying "if it weren't for FSG we would have went bankrupt" again your wrong. There were another 3 potential buyers that would have stopped that.

Then there are the "but look at the commercial/sponsorship deals they got us". Wed already started brokering big deals before they came in the standard chartered deal was a world record months before they came in.

And if SC do hit the wall the club will simply release 3 new kits with a new sponsor on and sell sponsorship rights to training kits separate generating more money.

The money they have spent on transfers has already been paid back in wage reduction and player sales and they have invested nothing but the original purchase costs which stood at approximately 50% of asset value.

The "losses" the club made were not physical spend under there tenure but an accounting write off of monies spent under the G&H era.

Oh and in 22 months in charge they have prodsided over 3 managers and no action at all in terms of either new ground or redevelopment. Can anyone please explain how the managerial merry go round or lack of action is anything at all to do with the principles shank's or paisley installed?

There not building a "bastian of invincibility" more like fattening their cash cow.

Concerned Red.

Bang on,juries well out,and a majority verdict of growing suspician is nearly here.

You make some valid arguments. 'managerial merry go round', however, is not one of them. FSG always planned to bring in a young coach to build the future with. The Bought LFC in Oct 2010 and inherited Roy Hodgson as manager. Less said about him the better. Kenny was brought in under the premise, discussed with him, that he would hold the line until the future coach was found. Kenny did more than that and gave us all some pride in LFC again and pulled us all together. FSG have done exactly what they said they would do in regards to team management.

And you haven't mentioned the 1m per week in losses that they inherited with the clubs poorly run finances either. They are paying that. Or how about the 50m interest free loan they gave the club, which in and of itsef is unheard of from owners.

With all that's happening with our players in/out we all need to sit back and take a moment to look at the bigger picture.

I believe BR with get us back up there fighting among the top four, it may not be this season or next but we will get there.

Those players that do not want to hang around and contribute, well goodbye, there's plenty that will. We may not have mega bucks, but we have time a plenty, so just be patient, wait until Sept 1st to see whom we get and who's gone.

One last note, Chavs, how much have they spent? How did they do against Brighton? lol full strength team(almost).

Agger has gone, cash deal only. He'll play in the prem, not too far away. Stop worrying all you negative f**** there's a good plan in place and I for one am very optimistic. Some very good players are signing, and I'm so looking forward to the 18th. I know it's going to take a few years to fall into place, I know all you true fans are with me. Annie Roader.

What joe allen for £15-16 mil sounds like a good plan? Complete waste of money and seems like we are just the same scenario as last season, if he does waste £15 mil on him i dont think he will be around too long. RedTurk

Annie - says it all really

Hi Eds, would it be a realistic bet that the four players we're looking at bringing in are Amorebieta, Vargas, Ramirez, and Tello? Add to that Allen and a mystery loan signing, which could be anyone's guess (and might not happen if Carroll stays) then I would say the above would be a good summer spree. Personally don't fancy Vargas, would prefer Pereira, but gotta be realistic!

Can somebody tell Brendan Rodgers to sell the flops at the club rather than the key players...

Kuyt, Maxi, Bellamy, Agger goes and we have Spearing, Downing, Cole, Adam & Carroll to play with......

Hell no! Bottom ten reckons!

All these talk about exciting signing is BS! FSG using it as a screen to sell our best players.. damn yonks don't even want to put 20-25M in the transfer budget.

Bosco

Happy Days. Boscos back! A little ray of sunshine for a tuesday morning.

BigBadBen

And you have inside information on FSG policies I presume - you are wasted on a site like this, the world is your oyster, with your obvious inside knowledge of major US companies, add a bit of entrepreneurial skill and an executive box at whatever club you support beckons.

John B

Kuyt wanted to play CL, Maxi and Bellamy to their homes.

We do need squad players who are on low wages.

You can't sell players if no one wants to buy them, Bosco....

Also, the owners have already spent ~12M on Borini along with other personnel fees associated with admin changes at the club. Once the window is closed, I'd be surprised if there isn't more as well, but we won't know for sure until then, will we?

What the hell is happening this morning..I know the kids are off school and the heavy drinkers will still have their hangovers but please let's get some sanity onto the site

if a player doesnt want to stay and play for liverpool on the contract offered to him, and we are in a position to make a large profit, let him go. Agger we love you but at £20million plus i feel it is good business. we have kelly and coates, and sure we will also sign cover. we cant offer him champions league/money and he has a better chance of winning the league at either of those club. everyone wins. yes we can argue all day long that we sell our best player and we wont achieve anything, but what do you achieve with a player who doesnt want to play for you at the price you can afford to pay him. and honestly which player has ever left liverpool to become bigger a player (ok maybe some have won things but only alonso has become better). we're in transition so now is probably the best time for those who want to go, to go and the manager to make the changes he wants to. sure its not ideal, but its todays game. Agger thanks very much for your service, please enjoy footballing success where you go, but please always be injured when you play liverpool and have love for the club that made you and fans that supported you. YNWA

One Kevin Keegan did not do too badly. Went to Germany won stuff and got european player of the year for the second time. Probably learnt german as well. reckon that made him a better player than when he was with us.

I agree mate.If Agger played for Villa, would you be happy for Rodgers to pay 20 million for him? I think Coates is good enough to take over.He may have a lot to learn, but you only learn with Experience,so play him.I think Brendan will put more faith in the younger players,I really hope so anyway. We need to look at the bigger picture and the way forward is to build a strong squad, bringing the likes of Sama, or Brad Smith through instead of buying Kyriakos or Konchesk y.We should only spend big money on players who are going to improve the first team. The likes of Maxi, Kuyt, Bellamy, Aurelio are only squad players,so the lads in the reserves are good enough to step up and cover.I remember Shanks and paisley played the younger lads and let them develop in the first team.Carra has one yr left on his contract, but he shouldn't be anywhere near playing for the first team.He stops every 2 minutes to suck in the air.He was given his opportunity at 19 or 20,I would have faith in Wisdom to cover any of the back line positions.I would love us to start challenging for the prem, but to do it by developing the players rather than buying superstars would be extra special.

My idea was to build liverpool into a bastion of invincibility. Build, was the most important word in that sentence by the great man himself. And he did that by buying young players who could pass and move then developing and shaping them into a team.l think Brendan will do the same and show faith in the youngsters.

Hi Eds great work , You may not fully know who the "Loan Star" is ,But in your opinion what position is the player most likely to play in?
- Rookie {Ed049's Note - Striker/Winger}

07 Aug 2012 01:01:53
Hey Eds! I know you have a lot of questions about people leaving the club such as Agger or Suarez but I personally cannot see anyone else leaving unless its loans. But my questions are:

- How many attackers (Wingers +Strikers) do you see joining?
- Do you think we should buy a very talented, proven defender to replace Carrager or does Coates and Wilson fill that role of back-up?

Thank you, if you do reply.

Lukieyy. {Ed049's Note - 2 Attackers if Carroll leaves; Yes I think we need to buy a proven defender who could slot in directly into the starting XI as I don't think Coates is there yet and Wilson is just not good enough.}

06 Aug 2012 23:02:37
Eds as you say you have no clue as to who this loan signing will be, but if you had to put some money on it, who do you think it could be??
Cheers YNWA

Great site lads,

Struggling to think who the loan is cos I can't see us loaning someone who is older unless we are stuck for a position n unless there is an option to buy so I reckon someone younger.

If I was to guess I would say sahin or grenero, I know people don't think another cm after Allen but we will play 3 n wen u look at our options even with the numbers it ain't impressive, if Lucas or Gerard are out do we trust the other 3 to help us get a result!

Lucas will take time to get fully fit after the knee injury
Gerard injury prone
Spearing not good enough
Adams yet to prove himself
Henderson still young and I reckon can have more of an impact this season

What do u kevkon eds?

Liverpool will do fine.
Sponsors kicked out of Wall Street.
Owners with cash flow problems.
Best players leaving.
Pub team manager.
Just fine boss, fine.
You read it here folks.

The problem is, it happens to be true.

United fan posting on Liverpool page?

Standard Chartered shares are falling like a brick.

Snail news BBC are reporting that Agger and Suarez could be off.

At least we've still got the best fans in the world though :-)

Out of all the aforementioned points, only one is truthful and accurate - 'Liverpool will do fine'. The rest are just paranoid ramblings by an immature Daily Mail reader

Personally i think it will be either Tevez or Villa who will be the star player on loan! The catch being any deal for one of these will involve Agger going the other way! If Tevez & Adebayor go then i think City will finally make a push to sign Van Persie! And with Carroll certain to go we need a forward!

07 Aug 2012 00:05:33
Ed mate why shouldn't we buy 1or2 quality players every season in order to build our team rather then 3/4 average players.
And the big suprise to me is we never learn from our mistakes

It's because right now the 20-30 mill deals won't Happend with no champions league. I believe the owners are good for it but right now we can't attract top quality!
I just hope we have some left when we do final get back in champions league!

Isn't it obvious? Quality players will only play for teams in the champions league. Need proof? Look at our signings whilst in then out of champions league. You have to buy players to get you into CL. That means developing decent players into a quality team. That takes time or pots of money. Buy 1 quality player a year, it'll take 11 years to get a team and 20 years to get a squad. The numbers don't stack up. You need more players.

This is what liverpool owners are worth

The Illinois native made his fortune trading on commodities after failing to complete his studies in philosophy at the University of California. After initial gains betting on the price of crops, he founded John W. Henry & Co. hedge fund in Florida at just 32.

With an extensive array of business interests, Henry is the co-owner of the holding company that had made the offer to Liverpool, New England Sports Ventures (NESV), and has a 50 per cent stake in the NASCAR team Roush Fenway Racing and founded iRacing.com Motorsports Simulation.

NESV is estimated to be worth £943 million, with the majority of the company's value lying in the Red Sox. The company's portfolio also includes Fenway Sports Group, a sports marketing and managing firm, real estate surrounding Fenway Park and 80% of the New England Sports Network.

Henry is a long-term investor in baseball. He purchased a small stake in the New York Yankees in 1991 and became the sole owner of the Florida Marlins in 1999 which he sold in 2002 to be able to buy the Red Sox.

His partners in NESV include successful businessman Larry Lucchino and Tom Werner. Together, they have guided the outfit to 10th place in Forbes' recent list of the most valuable sports brands in the world and made a profit of £25m last year.

Their stewardship of the Major League Baseball team has won huge approval from fans.

Speaking to the Liverpool Daily Post, Boston Globe Red Sox reporter Peter Abraham stated: "He [Henry] is a very interesting guy. He made all his money in hedge funds.

"He purchased the Florida team the Marlins, but he swapped it for the Red Sox.

"He has been very popular in Boston.

"The Sox have the second oldest stadium in baseball and he has fixed it up better than people thought he would. He spent more than people thought he would, I would imagine probably $50m (£31m), if not more."

Last month the club launched a 'Listening Tour' initiative to gain views from supporters of how to create further improvements to their beloved Red Sox.

Henry's personal wealth has, however, taken a hit during the global recession. After this was estimated at $1.1 billion (£691m) in 2009, he failed to make this year's Forbes rich list which documents the world's billionaires.

Both Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal further reported financial difficulties in JWH & Co. in 2007. In the previous December, Boston Magazine reported losses of $300m (£188m) for that month alone.

Currently, the investment firm is believed to handle $270m (£169m) worth of assets.

Henry married Linda Pizzuti in June 2009, with the pair announcing in April they are expecting their first child together. He also has an older daughter from a previous marriage.

He lives in Boston for the majority of the year and heads off to a $6.5m (£4m) Florida estate in the off-season. There his 164 foot yacht is docked where guests are handed a pair of red socks when they remove their shoes.

Wtf has that to do with liverpool we will see what ther worth when they spend and i know they spent 35m on carroll but the offset was the torres sale wake up what ther worth doesnt concern LFC fans its what ther willing to speculate on which is very little when u read into the transfer dealings tooot toooot

Tosh nutting in that statement benefits our beloved lfc

So whats your point?

So i was right he cannot afford a club like lfc, which he is proving to all you guys this summer. I don't mind the Fsg's policy to change KK and find new manager.
but they are confuse in decision. first they want Crueef as a DOF,
then Tixi both is very good idea as they both are very talented and respected person in football world.

but FSG then change their mind and now there is DOF.
about stadium they are confuse too.
I am confuse about supporting FSG now.

Sounds like there's a bit of confusion across the board

Yes, I can see that you're confused...

someone said AGGER to CITY with a 3rd bid around £20M,they also said FSG will only spend around £12m of there own cash plus sales.

I believe that Agger unless wanting the move himself should not be sold to City, Barcelona fair enough but selling to City means playing catch up even more to them in future, we can kiss top 4 anytime soon bye bye if this happens.

Joe Allen is not worth £16million and will just turn into another Henderson/Carroll/Downing/Adam, aka over priced British "talent".

Now I am from Northern Ireland about 13miles from Brendan Rodgers hometown and I really am beginning to have doubts as to what he is all about, of course I will give him time I just think selling Agger would not be a wise step by him and or/the board.

Wow, so close you could probably read his mind!

Let him get on with it.

Exactly, u just cant sell agger. we wont be moving like jagger anymore without him. i really want Agger 5 on the back of my jersey next season.

06 Aug 2012 22:57:29
I heard someone on LFC TV moaning that Borini has only scored 16 goals in the last 3 years. Now people are even twisting the facts to have a moan..

Borini is only 21
He wasn't getting game time at Chelsea to show what he could do, so he went on loan to Swansea and scored 6 goals in 12 games

He then moved to Roma to get a chance to prove himself and as the season progressed became a regular first team starter and forced his way into the Italian squad. He did well getting 10 goals in 26 appearances which is good, but this also includes sub appearances. In goals per minute played, only Ibramavic and Cavani (spelling?) were better in Seria A last season.

I think we've signed a gem.

Fitzy

Well done fitzy - great to see a proper argument backed up by fact. I agree with you on Borini! Now more impressed given the numbers you suggested. To see him running behind the lines on the tour shows this guy has great instinct!

We are Liverpool football club why should we get other teams players fit for them dont think so mate villa wont be at LFC unless transfered

06 Aug 2012 20:39:19
We need to relax about the Agger situation. I beleive he is one of the best centre backs we have had since Hyppia but he is very injury prone and remember 12 months ago people were saying to bin him off as he will never be fit enough. I would prefer if we kept him and sold Skrtel but $20 million + is a good deal if he goes to Barca. I would expect us to want more if he goes to Man City as every english club screws us over when we look to sign their players. Ed's would you beleive this to be the case that we will look to deal with Barca and ask for more money if City continue to look at Agger?

He IS the best centre back since hypia!

06 Aug 2012 18:43:56
Eds? Potential problems for Standard Chartered? The sponsorship deal lasts till 2013-2014 (If I correctly remeber). With the owners wanting a positive brand image, do you think this deal could be terminated sooner and the subsequent loss of sponsors income be another 'operating' blow in terms of the transfer of players and the financing of the stadium redevelopment?. This negative association with the main sponsors will not be well received I'm sure. However, could it provide an opportunity for new sponsors or investors?

EVO YNWA

WHY DO YOU CARE MATE? Chill out, we support Liverpool because we love to watch our club win! Let the men in suits handle everything else!
