anyone think the lyon match was fixed?

And to add insult to injuy, Ajax had two very clear goals disallowed. It is a really dirty game sometimes, full of nasty people and prima donnas.

all the talk about spearings tackle think myself he should of took him out good and proper and then they would of have something to talk about for goodness sake he got the ball its a contact sport

I'd give him a new contract for that tackle - perfect tackle.

I think Andy Carroll might benefit from Suarez being suspended. I would bring back Downing on the left, Kelly at right back, Johnson right wing.

Carroll will benefit, will Liverpool?

07 Dec 2011 23:21:29
You know. I'm so happy on a European Wednesday night. I find myself smiling. Could it be the fact that all the c*** that spewed out of Manc mouths abouth Thursday's is coming back to bite them in the backside. I wonde how those shares will float now. Empty old toilet from now on. Those southerners wont make that trip

I'm extremely pleased that m.u. lost but I am baffled as to what anke was complaining about to the officials at the end of the match. I have only seen the highlights (the best one a close-up of saffy at the final whistle) but I saw nothing to justify any compaints. I cannot understand how a 'man' being paid a quarter of a million pounds PER WEEK can be so miserable.

Who'd want to sign for Utd they're not even in the champions league oh god I have wanted to say that for years

So......how are Liverpool doing in the Champions League?

Well, we've done alright. 2 finals and won it, it's new format. Oh and I don't all the fingers on my hand to count how many times you've won it. Ol' big ears is a pal of ours. He's taken permanent residence at ours. So suck it up. Perhaps tell the missus you are now available to take her to tesco on Tuesday's and Wednesday's.

Much as I hate the Europa league maybe we should look at the fact that they are still in europe before we laugh.

Have a bit more pride about yourselves, not the Liverpool way to focus so much on what our rivals do. Focus on what we do.

rewflo

99% agree with you rewflo - only prob is there are so many arrogant mancs on here constantly gloating about Europe that it sweet to remind them that they couldnt get through the easiest group in the CL

Naithan Dyer

If you're asking me to 'Agree' or 'Disagree' with your spelling of someone's name, then it's a disagree from me I'm afraid.

Nice to meet you, Naithan.

Leave him alone we all no who he's talking about no need to pick out his spelling

Square tomato

Please do not pick on each other. This forum is not about improving spelling. People have different reasons for misspelling things. Anyhow spelling a name wrong isn't all that bad. Who can spell the surname of the Italian International centre back who played for Sampdoria from 1983“1995, and whose first name was Pietro? Answers on a postcard. Googling is against the rules.

Latest on Suarez and LFC charge:
A statement on the FA's website read: "Liverpool Football Club have been charged by the FA with failing to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion, following the dismissal of Jay Spearing.

"The charge is in relation to Liverpool's Premier League fixture at Fulham on 5 December 2011. Luis Suarez has also been charged following an incident in the same game. The Liverpool player is charged with improper conduct, in relation to an alleged gesture made towards the Fulham fans at the end of the fixture."

DC must have some one up his sleeve for Janaury that is not too expensive but has real technical strengths that will help our starting 11 to score goals and inspire confidence to finish teams off.
It's a kind magic...Muniain, Ramirez, Vargas, Willian, Costa... I hope we get one of these.

Ed nothing to do with transfers but I was just wondering when, or if as the case may be, do you think we will see the best of Andy Carroll in a red shirt? {Ed001's Note - I doubt we will see the best out of him for a long while yet, whether with us or someone else, he is a few years away from him peak yet.}

Who do you think is better ed?

Lucas or Mascherano?

The Economist {Ed001's Note - Lucas without a doubt for me, Mash had a terrible attitude, Lucas would never go on strike.}

I agree. I think Lucas is a better passer and his vision was much better too. Dont see what all the huff was about Masch he was a liability glad he's gone.

The Economist

But quality of player ed, forget about the attitude for now.RedTurk {Ed001's Note - then Lucas offers far more on the pitch, partly due to his attitude, so how can you forget about it? Mash was far more likely to get sent off for being a complete imbecile than he was to have a good game.}

I agree he did get sent off alot, but had alot more pace, also could attack with the ball, and he had a good tackle. to be honest lucas has improved alot, but then if it that much barcelona will be at our door shortly to replace mascherano who is getting on.RedTurk {Ed001's Note - Mash isn't getting on at all, he is 27! He was no quicker than Lucas, his passing was about the same, but Lucas is younger and improving, while Mash is not.}

Doesn't his tackle success rate and distance covered during games over the last year outweigh mascherano's anyway.
add to that his ability to pass and keep the ball

Masch woz/is so overated... Bad headless chicken. Alonso carried him most of the time. I used to get slated at the time for sayin tha! Bit like now wen i tell ppl reina an suarez r overrated... How many disagrees can i get for tha but you'll all see :)

Lucas, all the day. His attitude is way better and he has become much of a great player too, for us. Hope, he gets well soon. YNWA

Hi Ed. Can you explain what a charge is please. Is it a ban, a fine, what? I'm a bit confused as to the consequences of both the racism charge and improper conduct charge given to Suarez. Thanks. {Ed001's Note - it is a charge, it means he has been accused and the FA have to meet to decide his guilt or innocence and, if guilty, set his punishment.}

07 Dec 2011 21:25:49

Liverpool Team of 2008-09

Pepe Reina

Álvaro Arbeloa Fábio Aurélio

Sami Hyypiä Jamie Carragher

Javier Mascherano

Yossi Benayoun Xabi Alonso Dirk Kuyt

Steven Gerrard

Fernando Torres

Subs: Daniel Agger Albert Riera Lucas Leiva Martin Škrtel

You add the players Benitez wanted e.g. Silva, Villa

What a team, anyone who could put a team together like this deserves credit imagine if Kenny had these players at his disposal, a young gerrard and carragher, top team

Evered

Or added Suarez and the new Lucas came through earlier

Javier Mascherano or Lucas ?

Lucas for me 100% much better passer than masch better temperament, better link up play. Masch was well overrated, his attributes were tackling and running.

hi all. just a question agree or disagree etc.
would you swap Joe Hart for Pepe?
thanks j

Jeeeeessssssuuuuuussssss no way!!!

They are roughly the same if you ask me, except Reina has more experience. Have the same silly errors in their game but both excellent shot stoppers.

I would take Hart anyday. I think he will become the worlds best keeper in the next couple of years.

07 Dec 2011 20:20:12
Hi Ed's, If Liverpool do look for a defensive midfield cover in Jan, and sticking with Dalglish's preferance for British Talent....Who do you think is good enough to come in a fill the gap...personally I dont think Selvey is quite up to it yet....I'm stummped to think of any British talent to come in a fill the gap. I wouldnt mind seeing Tiote come in, if he wasnt injured, I think were lacking slighting in a total power house, wreckin' ball in midfield, although little Jay Spearing can definitely put the tackles in.

Who would you guys like to see-pref British nd/or Prem established? {Ed001's Note - Shelvey is not a defensive mid, I don't know if there is any available decent midfield talent available in the English league.}

I wouldnt buy a replacement. Just my personal opinion but I dont feel that Agger and skrtel require protection for most games. Only time we need a truly defensive midfielder is away games at utd, arsenal, city. I see Lucas more as box to box player these days.

Rewflo

Rewflo didnt you watch the Fulham game and see how much space Dempsey had in front of Agger and Skrtel? He had the most shots of anyone in the game. Do you think hed have had it if Lucas was playing? Robster

I did watch and I still maintain that against any team outside of the top 5 we dont need a dedicated defensive midfielder. I dont see Lucas as a dedicated def mid, he is much more of a box to box player these days, just fortuate that he is excellent at breaking attacks.

dempsey didn't get that space just because Lucas wasn't there, it should be the job of both central players to close down space when defending.

07 Dec 2011 20:18:45
An I right in saying that no player has ever received a ban for flipping a finger at the fans. I do not believe so.

On a separate note, how come Suarez alleged race case has still not been called? I will tell you why, because they are waiting on the outcome of the police investigation into the ENGLAND captain. If the police drop charges against Terry who clearly racially swore at Ferdinand, then they will not be able to charge him themselves. It would also mean any action against Suarez will be dismissed. You mark my words on this. If Terry is charged then he will not play for England again and again that will not happen.

07 Dec 2011 19:55:27
So Ed,
What are the possible charges Suarez can get.?
Curious

AJI {Ed001's Note - he has been charged with improper conduct.}

07 Dec 2011 20:57:43
Is everyone watching the same Shaquiri I am? He's not been magnificent today. He's wasted the ball alot, I'm not sure if he is a winger or a central player his positional sense is so poor.

Rewflo

That's how he has been told to play not poor positional sense you wally

So he has been told to run everywhere without any discipline as though its school yard footy?

Basel manager must be awful if thats true, he was still pissing about all over the pitch when they were desperately tring to defend their lead. He has potential but he is 2 or 3 years away from the first team of any of europes elite.

Rewflo

Agree with you there. Tactical discipline is a must for any player at a top club, probably the reason why nobody has bought him yet.

do you think liverpool will go after ricky van wolfswinkel in jan or summer? he's a good finisher.

Liverpool always miss the ship. last year ricky ask himself come and get me. he also mention kuyt is there who can help him to settle. when honda ask it come and get me we miss him. ba been told it many time i can help liverpool forget torres we miss it. now ricky man utd have an eye on him, so we can forget it.

Carroll Aerial duels won: 59.5% :s

07 Dec 2011 20:23:45
So let me see if I have got this correct. The FA are going to appeal Rooney's ban for deliberately kicking a player and yet they are going to charge Suarez for showing his middle finger?!

Suarez make mistake u can't do that in uk. after the stupid referee all eyes watching us what we do. as reply show that not offside. and red card also a funny one. u must understand that the camera looking for our mistake. and suarez did a stupid one.

FA needs to take into consideration the abuse players get.

i and feel for suarez seem there is a note every ref gets before a game saying do not fall for suarez. they can't single out a player. thats something the FA should come out and publicly say. even if they are only reciting rule. it feels like the refs are gods the way the FA goes on.

07 Dec 2011 20:22:50
I think we should have 2 teams one with Carroll in one without because he does not suit the pass and move style I think we could use the Carroll team more for home games and the without Carroll team more for away games.

Carroll team:

Reina
Kelly Skrtel Agger Enrique
Johnson Henderson Adam Downing
Suarez
Carroll

Without Carroll team:

Reina
Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique
Coady/Spearing Adam
Maxi Henderson Bellamy
Suarez

07 Dec 2011 20:12:43
Well if Suarez is going to get banned do it now. We've easier games in the run up to Christmas. I'm more concerned about our midfield issue than Suarez getting a 3 match ban. We've still got a few attacking options up front with Kuyt, Carroll, Bellers, Maxi & Downing. With Lucas injured & Spearing banned we are a wee bit light in the holding midfield position. No doubt Hendo will play along side Adam for the meantime.

Yes Suarez deserves a fine and/or a 1 match ban.
The charge i can't understand is the faliure to control the players, Ferdinand is probably one of the worst for this, also Fabregas, horrible person he is.

Before the Mancs go in to one about me mentioning Rio, i hate the way players run to the ref and shout right in his face.
It should be stamped out the game, maybe this is the start of it.

Expect teams to be fined every week though.

KT!

Is it not a premier league rule that only the Captain is authorised to speak to the referee?

07 Dec 2011 19:40:44
liverpool :( why do the world seem to hate us. but it doesnt matter, we fight, maybe we wont get top four this year as we have been terrorably unlucky in so many ways but we are building a great team and if we get some more great players in jan, play some of our fine youngsters i can see us destroying teams in the second half of the league and hopefully it wont be too late for 4th spot or higher, i can see things going our way soon.

07 Dec 2011 19:36:46
Just thought this was an interesting after I did a bit of research, maybe Andy's critics should take a deeper look:

Premier League:

Andy and Suarez started: 6 game
Suarez goals:3 goals
Suarez assists:1 assists
Carroll goals:2 goals
Carroll assists:0 assists

Just Suarez started:6 games
Suarez goals:0
Suarez assists:0

Carling Cup:

Andy and Suarez started:2(Exeter was a start really lol)
Suarez goals:3 goals
Suarez assists:2 assists
Carroll goals:1 goal
Carroll assists:0

Just Suarez started:
Suarez goals:0
Suarez assists:1

Andy allows Suarez to spends more time with his face to goal rather than his back, Andy pulls defenders out of position allowing Suarez more space. I think Andy is going to be a very important once fully fit, particularly when we get in Champions League. What did Lucas teach you? Shame 'fans' have VERY short memories, always need a whipping boy.

Jatt YNWA

Great post

Interesting stats Jatt. I also read that the five games in which Andy has played the full 90-minutes we have win four of them. The other game was against Spurs and I don't think anyone can blame Andy for that result.

JRG

I think its arguable that in the second against spurs that was Andys best performance of the season.

If you ask me JRG, I think Carroll been very good barring the Tottenham game and like you said he can't be blamed for that and maybe the Swansea game(Lost confidence after missing a sitter).

Andy causes all sorts of problems to defenders, and completely different problems to Suarez, which is why I believe they can be one hell of a partnership if Andy get a slightly more 'pleasing on the eye' gait and slightly fitter, I am sure Ed001 mentioned he is on an intensive programme.

The only problem I have had with Carroll this season is that he hasn't looked to get in the box more when we get the ball out wide, in the Fulham and Chelsea(CC) game he looked to be rectifying that.

I know he isn't going to be an instant hit, but I have seen enough of him so far to convince me he has got what it takes to be at Liverpool.

One thing that I can't fault the lad on is, from what I can see is he is giving his all, just seems that his body isn't thinking the same way.

Jatt YNWA

Hi all finally some real support for Andy. he will be good soon and i hope all the people that have posted negative comments(Redturk) will hold there hands up and say they were wrong. he will be great for us.j

'Jatt'

I think we all agree that Carroll hasn't reached the standards we expected and needed since he has signed. But I don't think he's performances have been as bad as people have made out either. Your stats show that when he is on the pitch he is creating space for Suarez to do what he does best.

To me, he looks really short on confidence, which is not surprising given the level of criticism that has been directed at him since he signed. That is why I was really gutted he missed that penalty against Chelsea as I think that would have done him the world of good. I think if he got a run of games under his belt and scored a couple of goals we would see a completely different player.

Same with Downing. He is getting criticised for having no assists or goals so far this season but if you looked at chances created he would probably be up there with the best. He has created numerous chances but for one reason or another the person on the end has not finished them off.

JRG

Look to see how many games we win with carroll on look to see how many games we win with him not starting

I have just read maccas post and about Carroll and i think it is a great post. One thing i have noticed is that when Johnson or Enrique get to the by line they always cut back on there weak foot rather than cross it. Sometimes i find this a bit frustrating thats my only slight criticism of the team.

I really like Andy Carroll and think he is quality but he needs quality in to the box rather than win it 35 yards from there goal. But i have noticed that Downing seems reluctant to cross it as well and cuts back. I just think we could use the big man better. He will be a great liverpool player as long as he gets the service.

It would be good to see other peoples opinion.

Mighty reds

You dont often see liverpool's wide players looking for the early cross. but when you play 4-5-1 most things come through the middle. at least with a 4-4-2 the options for the full backs to over lap is there. especially if you play downing on the right and bellamy/maxi on the left. but you need 2 out n out strikers. Ko's

Not entirely true, in theory playing 451 should still give us width without sacrificing central stability, but also does sacrifice firepower up front.

If though you look at how we play our formation tends to be 451 when defending but the side players push forward in attack making it a 433, its a progressive system that affords fluidity.

Liverpool to put in £15000000 for Colombian legend Carlos Valdarama.you heard anything about this Ed?
Can we please behave and stop throwing names at the eds please!

King luis

To be fair... I would still have Valderrama.

He's got crazy hair think that's why I said his name and he was an absolute beast of a player.

Ed001 it seems likely we will sign a striker/winger and a cm in jan(with gerrard having a setback according to macca). Who would you say right now are the most likely players that could come in jan for those positions? Thanks {Ed001's Note - Moussa Sissoko and either Luuk De Jong or outside chance of it being Munain.}

Where did all the Muniain rumours come from again. I was told that Bilbao wont sell for less than 40m surely that rules just about everyone out, even madrid weren't interested at that price.

Rewflo {Ed001's Note - because Bilbao have to sell and are offering him around at 40m Euros. They need to sell players to stay afloat, he is one of the players they have chosen to sell. Eventually they will no doubt end up for settling for a fair bit less in order to get a sale done.}

I didnt realise they were in a position where they need to sell. In the past it has been quite a well run club.

I still wouldnt expect to see him go for less than 20m, which is a bit too much for a player who doesn't exactly bang em in all the time.

Rewflo {Ed001's Note - it is very well run, but they, like almost the entire Spanish league, have to sell to survive. The whole league is on the verge of bankruptcy, if things don't improve there I can see firesales happening.}

Thanks for the insight ed. I thought that there were a couple of clubs which still operated within their means. Bilbao being one of them. {Ed001's Note - they operate within their means by selling players for high amounts, they have always done so.}

Heard two blokes in alehouse at bar.Now i say non starter=but one suggesting we need experience to help youngsters in middle.Plus fact,Stevie looking goost. And suggested a bid for our old mate fat frank!Whats others views?i reckon hes finished

Fat frank has always been in Gerrard's shadow, he scores goals because he's allowed to do whatever the hell he wants.. he's not disciplined and there's not a chance he could play in a team where he is not considered to be almighty imo, what does everyone else think =)?

This hand gesture is so stupid, loads of people have done it before but not a single one has been charged but when Suarez does it that means he will be charged. So stupid!

07 Dec 2011 19:16:49
Well if Suarez is banned for a couple of games, these games coming up will be a good chance for Carroll to get a decent run of games, who knows what'll happen...It could turn out perfectly with him getting a brace of goals, or it'll be the same old story of late with him struggling with confidence. Interesting few games coming up I guess.

Right, so has the club been charged for getting a player sent off, or for something else?
Bean

Seemingly for the behaviour of the other players when Spearing was sent off. Runniung at the referee and arguing with him is not allowed anymore. The game's ruling bodies are actually looking at making it an offence to speak to the referee unles the referee speaks to you first with the only exception being the Captain. RED LENIN

You are joking right, an offence to talk to the ref!what next on offence to celebrate a goal?
Bean

Yeah unless you celebrate like Balotelli staring and frowning, let's just put robots in the prem there is no room for emotion in football today!

Thats not a new rule, its always been part of the rules, just that until recently ref's used to wander around the pitch getting bullied all the time.

The rule does not apply if you are MU though.

v QPR
(what I'd play)
4-4-2
Reina
Johnson
Skrtel
Agger
Enrique
Downing
Henderson
Adam
Sterling
Suarez
Kuyt

(I'd give Raheem a little go to add some more pace)

I'd start Maxi on the right but i would definately have Sterling on the bench as an option. Lets face it, if we can't break QPR down with that starting 11 then the season is as good as over. kev

I think It'd be too soon for us to put Sterling. He is not yet, ready. May be next season. YNWA
Suso and Sterling, and the rest. Hope, they'll have great careers here. YNWA lads.

I'd have eccelstone on the team sheet we need the pace. could be an impact sub like babel

I think it is going to difficult for Carroll to fit in until we start playing to his strengths..

What i mean by that is when was the last time you saw a winger beat a man, get to the byline a whip a decent cross in..

We tend to play very narrow..

Until we sign an out and out winger nothing will change..

Cheers

Macca

Dowling's a natural winger, and KK didn't play him with Carroll against Fulham, so what you are in effect saying is that KK hasn't got a clue, and I agree!

So...we're after a winger !
Albrighton for me.
The Real KB

So why was Downing brought in for, we bought him instead of players like Juan Mata is for that reason now Downing is
the problem. LMAO seen lots of good crosses this season but Andy Carroll don't know how to get the end of it. The problem is Carroll we cant wast our time & money waiting for him to deliver.

Carroll was bought for a record 35M to spear head our attack. With 35M their comes expectations, yes we can wait even for 5 years but then where will Liverpool be?

I agree, if Downing was performing at a higher level then i believe we would see an improvement in Carroll's play..

Just my opinion..

Cheers

Macca

We have needed to sign a decent winger for years Macca. Hopefully one will be bought in jan or the summer.
I hope andy Carroll gets the service he needs to succeed at Liverpool, he is going to be a very good player but like you say we need to play to his strengths.
Ps. It's great to see you back posting again, always enjoyed reading your posts.

MIKEY

I gave my fair share of ciriticism towards Andy, until recently. I started to re-watch all the games that featured him and he is in good positions nearly all of the time. The crossing is poor when he is on the pitch, strangely when he comes off the pitch the quality of crossing increases. In addition to this, if you check the stats we score more goals when both Carroll and Suarez play.

Rewflo

Although i do agree with you macca (in terms of quality of balls provided to carroll) my biggest problem is that he doesn't dominate the box, he doesn't throw his all into getting to a cross, it seems as if the cross needs to be inch perfect or he's not going for it which is either down to laziness, lack of pace or the speed of his brain. I like others am disappointed with how he's played for us, that's not to say i'm going to shoot him down because he did at Newcastle show potential, however i don't think his inability to head the ball effectively at present can be justified by a change in playing style.

suarez has been charged by the FA for flicking the finger along with the other charge he already has,he could be out for a couple of months if found guilty.if this happens along with no lucas or gerrard i think liverpool could be in deep, deep SCHTUCK !

Got to buy now in January.Best quality we can entice

And next time he'd call referee, a Referee. I am sure FA would charge him again as he doesn't play for Man utd. FA, just ridiculous. even in that pic he isn't looking towards Fulham fans. And what about them calling him a cheater all day. FA must grow up, now.

But you are all missing the point, he did stick his finger up to the Fulham fans and he was caught on camera doing it, it is not a witch hunt, it's justice. That is how it works, crimes are committed and a governing body will punish, that's how it works. How can Fulham fans calling him a cheat be mitigation? He is a cheat, they were hardly lying were they?

Disney!

Let me ask you a very simple question 'Disney!', is Nani a cheat?

Jatt YNWA

Disney answer me this why was nothing ever done to neville after he ran 50 yards up the pitch to deliberately wind liverpool fans up and in front of the cameras. Are you going to give a hypocritical comment or an honest answer cause if you want to come on these pages and give your ' knowledgeable ' remarks then prepare for the truth about uniteds players and their always outspoken manager disrepesctful past.

I think the point Walt Disney is trying to make is that there are rules and despite what might have happened in any other game prior, the rules must be followed. Suarez broke the rules, and the fa have reacted within their jurisdiction.

I agree its very frustrating to have Suarez charged for this, simple truth is though, if he doesnt make the gesture... he doesnt get banned.

I know the pont disney is making but the point im making is it one rule for one outfit and one for another and the answer is yes with fergie at that club

No youre still missing the point. Each incident is considered on its own merit. Its not a general rule.

Whatever happened in the past has no bearing on this incident. Likewise this incident (unless its truly earth shatteringly important) will not have any bearing on whichever player is next called to answer similar charges.

No fool youve missed my point to disney, The past is relevant and why has one clubs player ( LIVERPOOL ) been made a scapegoat and a united player and manager got away with numerous incidents over the past years, Fergie helped make the fa mind up to monitor suarez and do him for anything possible. Anyway mind your own business and let disney answer

Wednesday, 7 December 2011FA charge both Liverpool & Luis Suarez
Liverpool Football Club have been charged by The FA with failing to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion, following the dismissal of Jay Spearing.

The charge is in relation to Liverpool's Premier League fixture at Fulham on 5 December 2011. The club has until 4pm on Monday 12 December to respond to the charge.

Luis Suarez has also been charged following an incident in the same game. The Liverpool player is charged with improper conduct, in relation to an alleged gesture made towards the Fulham fans at the end of the fixture.

The player has until 4pm on Monday 12 December to respond to the charge.

Suarez has just been charged by the fa for the finger gesture. Its a witchunt against him simple as that and that horrible big gob fergie had alot to do with all this by the way he went on about him a few weeks ago.
The refs bottle it every time against fergie, he's a rat and i cant wait for him to go.

As you sow so shall you reap

Did suarez do it... yes, has he form for this kind of attitude problem, yes.. anyone surprised by it. if your answer is yes then get your red tinted glasses off. the guy is good, not great. he has issues on and off the pitch. his finishing is poor. his diving is getting him nowhere apart from a reputation that will cost us points as genuine pen's will not be given. he needs to sort his head out. take the break the ban will give him and work. kos..

Yep, Fergie made him give a one finger salute to Fulham fans. Ahhhhhhhh ha. Liverpool supporters you just keep giving.
By the way, the FA are likely to give Suarez a slap on the wrist, and his reaction will be to hit the ground rolling around, acting as though he is badly injured.
At least he hasn't bitten anyone yet, in England. Good player, but he's a wrongun, plain and simple!

Love how people disagree but have no balls to say why. kev

Next suarez will be kicking fans and then him and his team mates will all charge at the ref, Ha Ha you united fans are priceless you bunch of whinning hypocrites,
Cantona was a wrongun, plain and simple but you clueless prats worshipped him and thought he was a god.

Its laughable, when the blindingly obvious is pointed out the last resort of people on here is to call a fan a manc. i've followed liverpool for over 30 years and i'm not blind to the clubs faults. it's a shame some here are. Ko's

Since suarez has been in this country he has done nothing different or worse than any of the following:

Rooney
Ferdinand
Drogba
Aguero

So if any fans want to call him then please look at your own first. Rooney harasses referees as much as any one else, he dives like everyone else. So do the other players I've listed.

07 Dec 2011 18:21:37
I see that suarez as been charged with improper conduct what is this likely to bring eds? A hefty fine?

This is totally double standards by the fa as rooney, neville and cole have all got away with it before. But as i said before these were all england players so nothing suprises me.

Luis keep battling son we are with you.

Mighty reds

Anything up to a five game ban.

Disney!

Its a bad peice of judgemeny by our no.7 but it shows he is passionate, except the ban an move on, maybe try someone else from the youth or give shelvey a chance, every cloud an all that., keep the faith, this is what our great club is about, back against the wall, like unleashing a caged tiger, we'll come very good

Yeah I remember Neville showing Tevez the finger and the FA claiming they were investigating the matter with pictures and everything yet nothing happened.

You can stick your finger up at another player on live TV or a manager can get caught swearing at another manager on live TV (Kenny) and not be charged, but this was aimed at the crowd. This is a different matter. Adebayor got a two game ban for celebrating in front of the Arsenal fans, Suarez made an offensive gesture so it could easily be three.

Disney!

Disney makes a point of mentioning kenny swearing haha is he a plonker or what, Fergie has been heard plenty of times and once said b****cks in an live interview and instead of apologising he just looked at the person giving the interview as if to say so what.
Disney think back in time and remember the past before knocking liverpool football club.

you need a good back up for cope with big team. Gerrard injury no proper back up. Lucas going down we start crying. I dont Know why we sale Meirles ? This guy done well to Cover Gerrard Injury. he is Regular in Chelsea line up. They have Maluda but still meirles find starting line up. that means this guy have some class himself. {Ed001's Note - Malouda is terrible, that is why he is not playing.}

Still, should have never ever been sold... another daglish cock up. the list is mounting now.. but still he is king after all. clueless {Ed001's Note - yes, you are, completely clueless. Meireles was a coward who was berated constantly for costing the club last season in all but about 3 games, yet, now he is gone, suddenly the whiners and idiots think he was some kind of super hero and we are missing him pulling out of tackles and letting players run off him.....}

Ed 001. that means Meirles is better then Maluda right ? how about Mikel, Essien ? meirles better then them too ? {Ed001's Note - Essien is injured and Mikel is one of the worst players I have ever seen.}

I agree with ed. Even if Essien were fit, he is not even 50% of the player he was 4 years ago, injuries have taken their toll. Meireles also wasn't as creative as you all remember, we had an awful lot of boring draws which he featured in...

Always amazed me that Mikel played so many games for Chelski. Very avg player.

Reina should be dropped far too many high profile mistakes give DONI a chance.
Kelly in place of Johnson

How many times has Reina acted like a sweeper to prevent a free shot on goal? No other keeps in the EPL are as good as him both defensivley or in attack. Our defence is good enough its our atacking players that need to sharpen up.

Nice one. very funny. btw , what is a high profile mistake you numpty?

Who's our captain?

Thats right, if you haven't noticed, REINA is our captain. Carragher is no longer our first choice player, Gerrard is out with injury and Kuyt is no longer a first team player either.

Reina is now the voice of our team, he drives the players with his commands. We have a fairly young team, look at the midfield we played against Fulham:

Spearing (22)
Henderson (21) Adam (25)
Suarez (25) Carroll (22)

We have a very young team and our GK is the very best in the Premier League. If you think Doni should play, you have a problem.

RenegadeRed

That's pretty harsh, mate. How many times has Reina bailed out the defence with a big save? He is one of the best keepers in the BPL, and in my opinion, the best at starting a counter-attack; his distribution of the ball is top draw, his long passes take LFC from defence to offence in literally a few seconds.

-Red Socks

I've seen it all now get a grip, Pepe is one of our true world class players. I shudda to think were we would be in league without him.I still cant believe i've read that!.....All the best.

KNEE JERK

This is utter bollox, pepe isnt only 1 of the best keepers in the prem or europe, hes 1 of the best in the world, every top class keeper makes an error or 2 so what he has won the golden glove more times than any prem keeper, he is utter class, great captain an top bloke id buy him a pint all day

Doni played in a preseason game
against Hull, where hill spanked us
and Doni got nowhere near the ball
for the conceded goals. Hope we never have to rely on Doni.

He is a great shot stopper and has excellent reflex saves. He flaps at crosses, spills slow easy shots back into the box for an oncoming striker. This is why despite Casillas being old he is still no.1 for spain and its why when Casillas does step down it will be Valdes that takes his place, not Reina.

Lucas Leiva took a couple of seasons to fit into the LFC way of play and a muppet like you cant give Carrol 1 season to fit in

MJ

How do I disagree with original post? If only there was some kind of voting system.....

JRG

Yes but not for less than £25 million + add ons

Maybe we could try to keep him for a while longer and see if Liverpool can make a great player of him? Maybe we gave up too early on Anelka when he was at the club.

£25m LOL

Stop Comparing Lucas with Carroll, Lucas was bought for a mare 6M & was brought in to be foil for Xabi, Gerrard & Mascherano.

Carroll was bought for a record 35M to spear head our attack. With 35M their comes expectations, yes we can wait even for 5 years but then where will Liverpool be?

Give the guy a break, he is on a very intensive training scheme which leaves him a bit drained for matches. It's not the same training scheme as everyone else its specifically tailored toward his long term fitness. I'm sure the eds will agree this is the case with Carroll.

Hi Ed, question, you state further down the page that Liverpool do not get any income from shirt sales

Could you explain please, I thought it was negotiated into players contact that they can get a % of those types of merchandise sales however the club get the rest, it would be pretty strange for a club to sell their shirts and not get the money

Many thanks {Ed002's Note - The money from shirt sales is split between the manufacturer, any middle men and the retailer. Liverpool get paid by Adidas annually for this and as of next season they get the money from Warrior. If the sell in the club shop then they get the merchants cut. Players get a % of customised sales through the club - it is a tiny amount. I recall Wayne Bridge getting £2 some odd at one time.}

Just seen this from earlier ed, and am interested to learn how clubs and players negotiate income for publicity rights eg Beckham is supposedly paid a % of publicity rights. Do the clubs pay for this, and how is a meaningful figure reached ?
The Real KB {Ed001's Note - it depends on the club and the deal they reach with their kit manufacturers. When we were with Reebok, we got a cut of the sales, with adidas we don't. It is more about a cut of any deals involving the use of the player, ie the Turkish Airways ads featuring the United players, any player with a percentage of publicity rights would have got a cut of the money.}

Does anyone agree that KK is a stubborn type of guy, who it seems sometimes refuses to pick a player that everyone wants and expects him to, simply because they all want and expect it?

I'm thinking of Maxi not being selected to start against Fulham. 9 goals in 10 starts is something that cannot be ignored no matter what is happening on the training pitch, and especially when we are desperately trying to keep in touch with the top 5.

Defending set plays against tall players is not a good enough reason to drop him- he doesn't always shine on the pitch, but we work better with him there.

I honestly believe with Maxi in the starting line-up, we'd have won the game.

I was surprised not to see Maxi in the starting line up, but think the commentator said something about Kenny protecting his man! If that is the case and not using Andy to help our defending, then what is wrong with Maxi that we don't know about? Doesn't Bellamy have a bad knee and yet he still plays on quite a regular basis, even though we were told he couldn't when we signed him?

Keith

I know what you mean, but to say he wont play maxi because we want him playing is a wierd way of stating a case, last time kk was bosshe used to drop beardsley everyone used to question that at the time, it is all about oppinions mate, bob paisleys skids

He socre 2 goal in 2 Big game and get droped in next game is it fair ? Maxi score hattrick last year. how maxi been droped ?

I think if Liverpool want to improve & win matches Kenny needs to stick with a team, not change it against smaller or bigger teams. The best starting XI. Keep them going on.

A 4-3-3 the line up against Chelsea or City with Shelvy/Spearing replacing Lucas.

For gods sake don't start Carroll, bring him in 15-10 minutes before the final whistle.

Now we are certainly in a Midfield crisis, Steve, Lucas & Spearing out. But pretty sure Shelvy can do a fine job.

Frimpong on loan in January anyone?

Shelvy found his level, top of the championship. not his fault, just too young at this stage of his career...kos

Wither play 4-4-2 with 2 wingers and carroll up top or flog him on. he isnt capable of playing 4-5-1. Kos

£35m for a guy to play 10-15 mins a game max !

Kenny really messed up there...

Ah Keith ya cant say paying £35m for anyone and feeling like they are only good enough for 15 mins is not a mistake.
Thats what you would do with a kid from the youth team when winning at home chuck him in and give him the odd 10-15 mins not an international that cost that much.

Are you for real. we have a reserve keeper that kenny is afraid to give a game too. 1 striker that is a poor finisher (suarez) and the other one that KD is not going to play in carroll. gerrard is limping from one injury to the next, johnson is a sleepy RB inless its going forward. Lucas out for the season and his only replacement sent off for a leg breaker on his first real start in the league this year. Title, top6 will be an effort with the lack of goals in the side. daglish has in my opinion till the end of the season b4 he is either sacked or walks. the owners do not suffer fools. ask the red soxs fans. ed , do you think liverpool have any chance at winning the league in the season 2012/2013 or 2013/2014 and if so how will they do it like what manager and what good players could we get that are vital in winning the title {Ed001's Note - yes, the manage we have got and him picking the players he wants.}

Liverpool need to buy a couple of referees just like man u did

I agree with the ref bit, but having the FA in our pocket like Manutd do, would help too!

Keith

Charged for surrounding the ref. lol. This is starting to become pathetic. Don't know why we bother to play in this pathetic league. It's clear, never more so than when rafa was in charge, that there is an agenda.
I'm dumbfounded by this charge. Don't even get me started on the Suarez persecution.

Just want to make a couple of quick points.

- Firstly every fan has the right to give an opinion. Every fan has a right to get angry and complain when we lose. It does not make him or her a plastic or fake fan. People complain because they care about the club and get hurt when it loses.

- In my opinion Jay Spearing should not have been red carded. Yes he went hard but he went hard to hit the ball, with no intention to touch the player. The Fulham cheat walked in to him to get him sent-off. Though, I am not a big fan of Spearing, he has heart and didn't derserve this.

- Andy Caroll is not happening. I would only bring him in the last 15-20 minutes, when we are leading with 2 goals or more. At present, he should not be playing ahead of Maxi, Kuyt or Bellamy.

- Kenny needs to sort out Downing. He is a good player but seems to be trying to over-do it a bit. He does not need to beat 5 players and then go for an out of this world shot, only to hit the post. He needs to pass-move-pass-cross. Dribbling is good but if it only works once in ten attempts then whats the point.

- As Lucas is out, can Glen Johnson be put in the midfield and Kelly on RB. I just think that we are more stable at the back when Johson is not playing.

Youtube the tackle again, look at his studs, the follow through is what got him sent off. and to call him a cheat, you clearly dont have a clue. might have been ok in souness's day but not these days. its the game.

Its so simple, downing hits the post when he aims for the goal, all he has to do is aim for the post and bobs your uncle they will be flying in.

I have justed youtubed the tackle again,
incredibly just 4 seconds before the Spearing tackle,
there is an exactly similar tackle from a fulham player on Adam. Adams just jumps out of the way. But if Adam had left a leg in, then follow through of that tackle
would have certainly been a straight red also. Check this out, does anyone else agree?

RedAce.

Wasn't Downings shot pushed onto the post?

The Irish Rover

Lol i like that one, 'downing hits the post when he aims for the goal, all he has to do is aim for the posts' lol! ha that made me crack up. RedTurk

Andy Carroll.

Obviously he was the reason we lost on Monday? Again gave another example of a waste of money? Thought so.

I'm going to give an example of one Fernando Torres and one Ian Rush verses Andy Carroll. Yep opening myself up to a whole mountain of ridicule but still.

1984. Details are a little sketchy. I watched Ian Rush in the flesh. Muddy, bobbly, horrible Hawthorns pitch. We weren't playing particularly well. Lucky to even be in the game come the 89th minute. We created very little all game. Then Souness intercepted a ball in the middle and slid the ball down the right hand channel for Rush to sprint onto and beat the diving keeper and the ball crept over the line and we won an away game with a typical smash and grab raid 1-0.

I watched Torres in the flesh in December 2009. It was at Villa Park and it was bloody cold and snowy. The game was drab, little to cheer the cockles, not many chances created by either side and it looked from 5 minutes out that it was a banker of a 0-0. Then in the 91st minute Benayoun I think forged a chance and slid a ball into Torres on the right hand edge of the box who tucked it fantastically past Friedel for us to win the game 1-0. As a die hard older fan, this was the way we won games in our pomp.

I watched Andy Carroll in HD on Monday night. Suarez got away down the left hand channel and pulled the ball back to the edge of the 6 yard box where Andy Carroll slid in and hit a firm shot………………….straight at the keeper.

I cannot recall much difference in all three performances except the crucial one. Now I'm not saying for one minute that Torres was a patch on Rush or that Carroll should ever be mentioned in the same breath as the best striker we've ever had, or I've ever seen. But in the context of the performance there was nothing in all three.

Yes, yes pedantic fans will say Rush worked harder off the ball, I know all this. But Carroll is getting chances every game he's played in this year. He just isn't taking them and that is having the effect of everyone criticising his overall play which admittedly is not at the level it should be.

If Carroll had scored that sitter against Swansea, that header verses Norwich & City, the penalty verses Chelsea, the chance on Monday night then he would not be viewed in the way he is currently being viewed, yet his performances would not have altered one bit. They would still be open for criticism and room for improvement.

Again fine lines. I thought he drifted disappointedly out of the game second half at a time when we were in the ascendancy. However after the goal ironically, we put more crosses into the box than we had done all game. And their big 6ft 5" defender nodded them away with ease.

You will need to read this post in the context it was designed and hopefully you may see the point I'm making.

Bob the Red

Actually was agbonlahor tackle spilled to Torres :)

Bob I'm a bit dim this is too deep for me. Can you simplify this?

Keith YNWA

Carroll no scorey, bad

Firstly was it Agbonlahor? My memory is getting awful.

Keith, i was hoping it wasn't too deep but all i'm saying is that at times a goal is all he needs. As everyone forgets the stinkiest of games if you score a goal. How many strikers have you seen score a last minute winner after doing nowt all game and getting the MOTM award?

Johnson verses Chelsea recently?

Bob the Red

Bob I am sorry I was one of the fans made up when Andy signed for the reds and have defended him since day one but I have to be honest on monday night we were playing 65 mins with ten men and another ten mins with 9 players when jay was wrongly sent off . Andy is not contributing anything to the team at the moment he is in all the wrong positons when the ball comes in to the box he is out jumped by the center half 8 out of 10 times he falls over to often for me he is not battling for the ball and he has as you pointed out had chances to score like the one on monday and fluffed them . I believe KK should play the lad in the stiffs let him score a bag full and then bring him back and before you say it will ruin his confidence you as an older reds fan like myself will know that the greats of the past like terry mac, Ray kennedy , steve nicol ,Alan hanson , Ian Rush , all served their time in the reserves and just look how they turned out . I do believe Andy has the potential to become a toshack type of player for the reds but at the moment he is over rawed by being at anfield

Think it's unfair to slate fans on here complaining about Andy Carroll, after all they want their club to win, I won't say go & support City or United, because they want to see Liverpool wining, Liverpool steering towards Glory.

Why didn't we support the Two Cow boys, because they are destroying our club, Liverpool were sinking, the same goes here it's not like No, go & support the Cow boys they are the owners.

At the moment Andy Carroll is the focal point, because Liverpool are failing to score thus failing to win games, & you have a 35M pound striker at the club, whats he doing, he is not injured.
The Question will arrive whether some people like it or not.

Liverpool will struggle to win If Andy Carroll is on the pitch. Liverpool are better off with out him,

Thinking what would Andy Carroll will feel when he sees this!

YNWA Andy Carroll. Come on boy, you can do it!

Armando

It's fair to say that Andy Carrol isn't performing any were near to the level we all know he is capable of. Does that mean we have to take a knee jerk reaction on the lad. Example, Lucas. In time Andy Carrol will be a fantastic player for the club. Watch this space.

Andy will never make it at liverpool we made a big mistake. just hold up ur hands kenny and take the loss. get another striker all the other buys were good in my oppinion. good times ahead without carroll

THE BIRD CAMPILE

I agree with Armando, how about a little support for the big guy, just like we did with Crouch during his barren spell when he first came to us? He went what 18 games without a goal and I for one was most upset when we sold him! Show Andy support and he might just repay that faith in him! Only thing I might say is, when Andy is on the pitch, make sure we have players like Downing, to be able to put it on his head, which at the end of the day is one of his strengths! If Andy had been on the end of that Downing cross, instead of Henderson, maybe they both will be doing better now! Might make Downing feel more confident and start banging them in, as well!

Hi to all,

After yet another dissapointing result, are the fans in agreement that LFC need to go out and break the bank on a top class proven goal scorer. At this moment in time Carrol is simply not up to the job. Now I'm not saying that he needs to be sold, because I believe that the big man will come good, but champions lge qualification is crucial for Lfc to keep hold of are very best players and to attract the best players. Without stateing the obvieous the longer we go without CL the harder it will be to get back into Europe. I know january isn't the greatest time to buy, but if it is at all possible LFC need to go all out and get a proven goal scorer. Just imagine if we had Fowler up front with Suarez OMG we would be up their with city right now.

07 Dec 2011 12:37:49
Thankfully for me, work commitments have kept me away for a day or so. I presume many have continued to confirm ED002's belief that we have more buffoon's supporting LFC than most clubs put together?

Just a quick scroll down the pages this morning and the knee jerk's are still there. Apologies if I go over old ground, but for what it's worth my take on the game Monday night:

Spearing can't argue about the red. Whether we like it or not, that kind of tackle is outlawed. Do not confuse the fact that he played the ball first that is no longer a consideration. His follow through was dangerous, off the floor and studs showing. The fact that it was not a clear cut red but one of those 60-40 shouts, you hope to get the benefit. The frustrations being showed are the fact that the Ref's are so in-consistent and no doubt there will be similar tackles that get less in the coming weeks. Unfortunately we all know the rules and if you go to ground in that style you run the risk of getting a red. Therefore it is not worth it. Stay on your feet and do not commit to a tackle. We don't like it as fans but there you have it.

Suarez' goal was offside. I fail to see how anyone can use the evidence of a freeze frame as justification that the linesman got the call wrong. In real time he looked yards off. Unfortunately these calls either go for you or against you and seeing that the rule is to give the benefit to the striker, it's another very frustrating decision to lose out on.

We should have had a penalty. Again, like the offside goal, another marginal decision that went against us. Although contact was made inches outside, the foul was actually committed inside the box.

Dempsey should have gone for his clash with Bellamy. The Ref was looking right at the two of them, Dempsey actually committed two fouls. One the retaliation from the challenge of Bellamy and the second the headbutt.

A word about the Ref. Usually Kevin Friend is an excellent ref. On Monday night he had a shocker in the second half and got the majority of the calls wrong. Frustrations are raised higher when you know the Ref has made a couple of calls wrong and the critical game changing decisions go against you and then compounds the issue by giving a disputed red. It appeared that the more the game went on, the less he was prepared to give us and we lost out on many 50/50's.

I doubt whether Chelsea or the manc's would get so many of the big decisions go against them in one match. We had 3 all go against us.

That said, I thought that whilst we were ok first half, second half we were excellent. Up until the sending off we were by far the better team and it looked like only being one winner which was us by a Country mile. Spearing struggled first half and positionally exposed us a little and allowed Dembele and Dempsey to get in behind us. Second half he was much better and this had the impact of nullifying Fulham completely.

Bellamy, Adam, Agger, Srktel, Enrique were excellent, Suarez whilst lively looked a tad isolated at times and he is certainly suffering from the constant media and managers criticisms of going to ground too easily. It appears the Ref's are starting to either ignore his pleas for fouls or believing he is going to ground needlessly. Therefore the moaning of Fergie & Co is having an impact as it is having the desired effect of frustrating and upsetting Suarez. This loses his focus. Fulham to a man were constantly in Friend's ear moaning about 'diving'. Schwarzer, in particular was very vocal and even after the match continued the tirade with the ref. It all builds up and when you start looking for something, you find it whether it's actually there or not.

Technically we lost to two bad bits of defending. One from Johnson and a poor one from Reina. Ok I can live with players making mistakes now and again, that'll happen. I can just about stomach defeat if we played well, created chances and were unlucky and should have won the game. The problem we have is that when you drop too many points in games which we should win, you can ill afford to drop more points. It is slightly ironic that we have gone so many matches without defeat and yet be further behind the pack than we were before starting the run!

Whilst the theme behind us not winning is again sounding a little too familiar, creating but not converting chances, we have to see this game for what it was. A really disappointing result. It's just not quite clicking for us this season. Fine lines again. Whereas Chelsea can go to Newcastle, play so-so, get the decisions admittedly but importantly get the result. Manc's can go to Villa, again play so-so but get the result. We need to learn how to do this and quickly.

However at least we're improving. We knew this season would be one of stabilisation, re-grouping and improving and at the moment whilst behind the 8 ball a little. We are still in with a big shout of 4th.

Keep your chins up…all of them!!

Bob the Red

I have to say its looking like a fading Dream, but we came close last year when we were in a worse situation why do we have to loos hope.

In Kenny we trust,
Walking on with hope in my heart!

Armando

For once Bob I disagree with you on something. When you look at the Spearing tackle from the correct angle you will see Spearing tackle the player and the referee watches the the ball as it heads up the field. He then turns back and sees the Fulham player laying on the ground clutching his ankle and then he blows for the foul and starts reaching for his cards.

For the off-side 'goal' surely this is what the linesman are trained to spot? I appreciate the decision was tight and the movement was quick but for me this is not an excuse.

You are spot-on with your comment about all the big decisions going against us in that game, similar to Stoke when we lost 1-0 to a soft penalty and then had two cast-iron penalty appeals turned down. Senderos should also have seen red for dragging down Carroll when he was already on a yellow.

I don't think it is a conspiracy against LFC - the officiating this season has been bad for most teams. But we are certainly seeing some big decisions go against us in a lot of games.

JRG

JRG,

I can definitely see where you're coming from. Friend got the decision just about right, however how he got to that decision is as you say debatable. As soon as i saw it i thought instantly he was in trouble and you tend to go with gut instinct first. When the red was shown i had already accpeted it! However it was a tight call as red cards go and i can certainly accept anyone disagreeing :)

The 'Suarez goal' is another. It's a classic looks yards off when he gets it but marginally on/off when it's kicked. There is no way any human is going to call that right. Even after the slow mo i still thought he was off. Frustratingly i seen dozens of goals awarded this season alone whereby the striker is marginally offside but it's been allowed to stand.

Perhaps i'm starting to get too pragmatic in my old age? It's certainly safer for my remote. My wife did comment that it was surprising it was still in one piece after the game! :) Usually it's up to Currys and paying through the nose for a new one the day after!

Bob the Red

To be honest Bob I cannot make up my mind whether the Spearing tackle deserves a red card or not. I have seen it multiple times and still cannot reach a conclusive decision so it shows how hard it is for referee's to make split second decisions.

I think we can all agree the tackle was unnecessary as there was no immediate danger especially in that area of the pitch. Hopefully Jay will learn from this and come back a better player for it, he was perhaps trying too hard to impress. I certainly agree with you that Spearing struggled through the first half.

JRG

Thanks once again Bob
Dara D

I disagree about the Spearing tackle. When Spearing makes contact with the ball both his feet are on the ground without studs showing, in fact Dembele's studs are showing more than Spearings. Dembele expected Spearing to win the ball. He led with his studs and yet in expectance of the tackle jumped as both players met. Spearing I think expected more contact from Dembele. This led to Spearing's momentum taking him through where Dembele should have been. If the players had made proper contact Spearings studs would never have been showing. His legs go from under him after the ball is gone and Dembele has already jumped. No red for me.

Sorry that was me defending spearings tackle. Forgot to sign it.

Great post from yesterday :

"The doublespeak of the impatient fan remains the most revealing aspect of their character; to suggest that the title of 'supporter' gives any individual the right to attack performances and mentalities, to disregard constructive solutions in favour of a reactionary use of misleading statistics, is beyond parody. For the rest (and, it is important to note that this is the majority or Liverpool fans) patience remains a virtue. These supporters, those who back their team regardless of results, can look forward to reaping the most satisfying of rewards when No. 19 takes its place in the Anfield Trophy Room".

That is the spirit , I could not agree more .

Been waiting over 20 years mate, I think that's enough patience for anyone.

Then it's time for you to call time and jog on . Discension will not get the anywhere .

If we have to wait longer , we have to wait longer - complaining will not change anything at all .

I hope Andy Carroll was watching the Chelsea match last night and shown how to lead a line superbly by Didier Drogba. Drogba was strong, forceful, industrious and importantly composed for his goals, some of the attributes we have seen far too little of our Andy.
Although he is still young, Andy needs to realise how important the next 6 months could be for his career. In recent months his fall from grace can't be shown greater than his status in the England squad, from England's no.9 for the next 10 years to not being able to make a squad.
He has a number things which should be motivating him at the moment - prove he is worthy of the Liverpool no.9 shirt, repay the faith Kenny has put in him, win a place in the England squad for the Euros, to name a few.
As many have said, he didn't put the £35m price on his head and the expectations that come with such a fee. But my expectations of him come from 4-5 months of terrorising Premier League defences before his injury and move to the club. In those months he showed all the attributes Drogba showed last night, which convinced me when he signed we were onto a winner. The longer his current slump goes on, the more the fans will get on his back, so it's up to Andy to prove himself. He needs to catch up with the rest of the squad or risk being left behind, I'm sure he didn't sign for us to become the 4th choice striker, so he needs to put in the performances to warrant selection.

RedSG

Didier Drogba, is a big strong striker,
he also has a good scoring record against
Liverpool. But would you describe his as
a 'Liverpool' striker? His style is very different and so is Andy Carroll's. This
is part of the AC problem. He's a different
style to Torres, Rush, Aldridge, Owen. {Ed001's Note - not from Toshack though.....}

Unfortunately the great Tosh and Kegan partnership was thirty years ago and times have moved on. Dogba thrives on his own but generally the lumbering big man has been replaced by more mobile pairings. I'd rather see us trying to replicate the Barnes, Aldridge, Beardsley attack than the big man, little man routine. Buts that's just my thoughts because I loved the football they played.

Carroll n crouch r the same type of player

Was I the only guy disappointed not to see Shelvey given a start? Jay deserved his start on Monday, but a tiny bit in me is a happy that Shelvey might now get a chance he has worked for....

Jatt YNWA

'Jatt'

Me too mate. I would like to see a five man midfield with a middle three of Henderson, Adam and Shelvey with Shelvey playing just behind Suarez similar to where Gerrard used to play with Torres.

JRG

Do you not think that midfield lacks a bit of bite or fire in the belly JRG? You can borrow Darron Gibson if you want?

TK-Red

TK-Red - thanks for the offer, and it is appreciated, but I think I would rather Aquilani added bite to our midfield than Darren Gibson!

I don't think you necessarily need to have a competitive midfielder in the middle. Barcelona often play without a ball winner. It's about keeping hold of the ball and pressing the opposition quickly when they have it.

JRG

Gibson is no different to spearing so y wud we want him u muppet

Thanks for the offer TK Red but to be quite honest we are struggling for a defensive midfielder without lucas and now spearing but we are not that desperate that we would want Gibson, would rather bring Robbie savage out of retirement first (as long as he brings Ola Jordan with him)

'JRG'

Well atleast I can say I offered. Tbh I've been saying the same for a long while. I said the other day my ideal midfield for us would be Ozil, Modric and Cleverley. I'll get onto the Bolton Wanderers page and see if they want Gibson.

'2nd Unnamed Poster'

Has it gotten so bad at Anfield that you are contemplating bringing in a retired United reject? Hard times indeed ;)

I'd say Bolton County AFC is more Gibson's level.

I don't think that it is necessarily the number of chances instead it is the quality of chances? Even tho we have Suarez he doesn't strictly play between the lines like Luis Garcia, Benayoun or even Gerrard did when partnered with Torres. This type of player would also weigh in with 10-12 goals themselves. Suarez tends to receive the ball centrally with back to goal or picks the ball up out wide. I reckon we need a creative player to help create quality chances in the final third. It would mean playing one striker which clearly has to be Suarez.

Chubs

Suarez can do either- he was a goal machine at Ajax- top scorer in Europe.

He can finish or create, he's just having a bad run of finishing by his own standards, but he'll come right no worries.
Suffice to say if we had one more player with his level of ability up front we'd be scoring for fun.

With all due respect to the Dutch league it is probably a little easier to score. Having said that I think you are right about Suarez, he will come good - I just think that he needs help with the chance creation aspect especially at home where we play against the parked bus.

Chubs

That's true about the Dutch league but I think at least 50% or more of the missed chances are the goalies saving goals, but I think it's the pressure on him knowing that he is the probably the only real striker we have that causes him to miss. When and if carrol starts scoring more frequently it will bring his game up. That's why he scores more for Uruguay atm coz he's got other world class strikers with him taking the pressure off.
Uru.red

For me personally, I'd rather see another Suarez type player up front than an out an out striker, because flair players seem less predictable, and it seems to give more fluidity and more threat.

The chance conversion rate might be slightly less than with a recognised striker, but I like the idea of having more and better quality chances created.

I think it's tempting to talk about needing a goal poacher etc, but this is a temporary thing- all these players can score on a decent day- to me there seems to be something else going on as well.

I think our current lack of goals is as much about players not getting forward often enough from midfield or in enough numbers to cause problems.

Tbh, I think KK is a bit stubborn too- his thing about not picking Maxi is a bit strange, when anyone can see we just play better and score more when he's on the pitch.

I just think opposition teams come to Anfield and say: right if we stop Suarez where are they going to get a goal? Sometimes you need a player who is going to take responsibility for unlocking a defence. Even if he comes off the bench. The get it out wide to Downing/fullbacks tactic is a good but also predictable and hasn't fashioned many assists/goals. I would love to see Gerrard in this team but also recognise we must plan for life without Gerrard.

You cannot tackle with your studs showing in modern football, whether you win the ball or not. Thats why he was red carded, stop blaming the ref.

The referee

He smashed the ball with his instep. The tackle was in no way made with studs showing. His follow through raises his foot causing his studs to show. God its like saying you can't hit a powerful side foot because at the end of the pass your studs may be showing which could cause injury. I appreciate the tackle looked wreckless and in today's game wasn't suprised a red card was shown particularly the other night, but to suggest he went into the tackle studs first is ridiculous. Really is a shame the art of tackling and defending is being completely lost on the modern game.

Oh and not to ref bash mr friend anymore but could anyone enlighten me as to why bellamy was booked? Kind of frightening that he felt bellamy's part was equal to that of dempsey's.

Anyway onwards and upwards.

Cheers
Greggers

LFC decided not to appeal. That tells you everything. case closed

redkenyan

Redkenyan I don't think it does tell you everything, other than Liverpools lack of faith in the appeal system and the danger of an even longer suspension, so a grin and bear it approach.

I saw the tackle again last night, it's a clean tackle, Dembele actually walks across him as he's winning the ball, not sure what else he could have done but follow thru the man...very harsh!

Kez

Why did Lukaku's tackle on Henderson only get a yellow. Was a cowards tackle - over the top of the ball. It is the inconsistency that is the problem.

Lukaku didn't even get a card, it was bertrand* who got punished for it wrongly.

surely nothing will happen to suarez for his finger gesture. I mean Gary Neville, ashley cole and wayne rooney have got away with it before or is it because they all played for England. We will see if there is any double standards and as i said before Suarez is being treated unfairly and to me it seems that the powers to be are trying to hound him out. He had a clear pen not given the other night when he was elbowed in his face.

But suarez you get all my support and its great that we have a controversial player to worship.

i think that sending him out on loan would be a mistake. sending a player on loan when he is struggling to adapt to new training scheme and tactics is silly because he will then have to adapt to another trainging scheme and tactics and then come back to us and adapt again.

the only real way carroll can improve is to play in the first team in matches.

rewflo

-----------------------------------------------------

saw you want to see carroll play every week nd week out to see liverpool struggling to win. so carroll is more important than the whole liverpool team.

i don't know what kenny was doing, one minute he says maxi is hard to drop & then he drops maxi for carroll, very clear that maxi scores goals, the team plays better & wins when he is on the pitch then why you put a struggling striker who not only don't know how to score but also disrupts the fluidity of liverpool's game play..

if liverpool want to win matches, then they should play their best starting xi.

andy carroll is believe or not is our 4th choice striker, behind suarez, bellers & kuyt. all of them can do better than carroll.

well i feel sad for the lad he is young & with the price tag on his (actually not his fault) head its easy for people to make a scapegoat out of him. but liverpool is a big club, when you sign a 35m pound striker people expect something from the player & the pressure will be much more high when the team is not winning, even if he can't score goals at least give some good displays.

think the guilty party here is king kenny himself as he is the one who signed carrroll, but we have to forgive him as he has done uncountable number of good things for the club one mistake like this needs to be forgotten.

but kenny needs to admit it other wise more misery will pile up on him & liverpool fc.

it seems like some people compare lucas with carroll, the difference is we bought lucas for a mare 6m, we had three midfielders ahead of him who are better than him but we go against all odds & paid up a world record fee for carroll to replace the finest forward at the club with that fee most of the fans will have expectations from him.

loan out carroll if not sell him!

You say the price tag is not his fault but then later go on to use it when comparing Lucas with him

Top 4 looking even more bleak. Looks like chelsea have found their feet, n will be spending big in jan. Spurs look unstoppable n have a very good squad. Arsenal r on a very good run, n calling them a one-man team is stupid. We need a CM n GOAL POACHER in jan, otherwie europa it is again for us.
Indian Buzzer

Europa could be out of the question if we do not start converting chances.

Carling up is ours

Indian Buzzer, coming on here & telling us how everyone else is great bar LFC frankly pi**es me off. I happen to think great strides have been made in 12 months & the footy we've been playing has been terrific. Certainly unlucky at times & yes things need to be looked at. But I will stop short of whinging how everyone else is better.. Even if the top 4 is looking 'bleak' I as fan won't be crying into my pint having abandoned all hope, what would that look like to opposing fans. Get back in line soldier!

dd

Mr dd, im sorry mate but just cover your eyes all the way through season, carroll is great isnt he? hes scoring so many goals, wow we really are thrashing these teams, someday someone is gona get a beating from us, how many times have we heard that this season? i think its obviouse to everyone we need some quality players in and some of the buys kenny made were pretty average, RedTurk

Red Turk, the quality players that are always mentioned on this site are largely unobtainable due to us not being in the CL. Also these palyers want Man City type wages. Andy Carroll thus far (for whatever reason) is not having the effect he had at Newcastle. I do agree, & a striker option is needed in Jan. But on the whole would you not say our football is more attractive & attacking with the new personel & the only thing missing is conversion of chances (& a little bit of luck) Did we not dominate the Utd game, the Citeh game, beat Chelsea twice & Arsenal away? Think of Hodgsons style (& potential transfer targets.. Carlton Cole etc) last year. We've made strides in the last 12 months & look to be set for the future. I'm really not as down as some of you seem...

dd

INDIAN BUZZER
if people want to praise other teams go on there sites and join them, there is enough so called liverpool fans slagging off our club in one way or another, without praising other clubs, its been sad the way carroll hasnt worked out YET, but no one at anfield can be blamed for that, he was injured when we bought him then got injured again and now looks half the player we seen at newcastle, if another deal had come off and things went differently we would of won all the drawn games and be top 3 now, every one needs luck, at the moment we are not getting much any bob paisleys skids

Dd not everyone wants to play for man city or there wages, just have a look at coates and suarez. there are players which are obtainable, like gaston ramirez, gotze, boudebouz, ibrahim affelay, and so on, not every player is gona play for man city and want crazy wages, all im saying is we need 2-3 quality players in january that can go straight in the team, cm/playmaker (mousa sissoko), winger (boudebouz/gaston ramirez) and striker, il leave that to you guys to think of names.RedTurk

Indian Buzzer - as regards to 'Spurs unstoppable' my feeling on this is Adebayor: a loan player, Spurs can't afford his wages. Parker, Friedel in their twilight years. Modric? ...wants out. Bale, if the price is right, will go... Lennon, not exactly world class. Harry? England job next year ... Good footy this year but where is the FUTURE FOR SPURS. I'd rather be in our position thanks!

dd

I have to say the original post by Indian Buzzer was not too far off the mark and should not merit such a vigourous debate. Maybe bleak is a strong word, but otherwise not too negative. dd calm down. You've just agreed that we need a striker in January. Indian Buzzer's comments can be interpretted as meaning that with the luck we're having things are looking bleak, something which you also allude to dd. Can't we all get along.

neekcub

Neekcub you old peacemaker you! Indian Buzzer, Red Turk...sorry guys ...c'mon group hug!

Topic: How to get the best out of Andy Carroll

Answer: Play route 1 football. Forget whatever pass and move thing, just hoof the ball to Carroll!

Keith YNWA

Problem is he isn't even winning a majority of the aerial battles either. Hangeland had his number in that regard.

RedSG

His win percentage on tackles and headers must be really low, he regularly gets our muscled by smaller defenders. He detracts from our team play not adds to it.! Hoofing tha ball up to him does us no good at all as he can`t hold the bloody ball up as his control is worse than Kuyts, awful player end of.!

I was not told he was out for good just that he was out for longer than Jan..

When i get something concrete i will report back..

Cheers

Macca

This means that we will get a dm like we should have done to replace poulsen not that he was worth anything but he is the one who replaced masch. maybe a am and also a right sided forward that can play striker or winger

Cheers for the info Macca

You have to think that with Lucas also out, KK will be looking for some mf reinforcements in Jan.
With SG back in Feb at earliest, Spearo by xmas, and Lucas out all season, a top 4 charge might be a big ask- but then a new mf might not mesh with the system quickly enough.
Hate to say it but unless our luck in front of goal changes, and Shelvey/Spearo really step up, we might be lucky to get Europa league next season.

Looking more and more like shelvey has to be imvolved.Dont see him as Holding player.Adam hold,Hendo go forward anyone?

Why does kenny keep saying gerrard will be sooner rather later, jus say the truth, what will happen if he sais hes out til febuary? he really isnt the most important thing for liverpool anymore.RedTurk

Agree redturk. We have to move on frm gerrard now. Its very much clear he wont be the player he was b4. We need to get someone like sissoko in jan. Our current midfield is actually as bad as man utds.
Indian Buzzer

REDTURK
kenny wont speculate he never has why say 3 weeks and steve has a set back? or are you one of those people who peep from behind the curtains just got to know everyones business? bob paisleys skids

I don't think kenny or Liverpool will be too bothered about selling Carroll after all even if we let him go for free we will still be quids in, since he cost minus 15 million.

from your point of view,it safe to say that arsenal paid nothing for their signing in the summer (7 players) coz they get more money from the sale of nasri, fabregas n clichy.

mista johnny

I think man city already sign a pre contract with maradona we should have a good chance of signing cruyff ;)

The refs make a right mess of things and the FA choose to investigate Luis for that he might have given someone the finger after the match. Can't say they are focusing on football what a bloody circus
ChinUp.

Unfortunately the picture seems pretty clear, time for dalglish to have a word, cant help but feel if Suarez and Carroll both stopped falling about a few more chances on goal might go in, I do think Suarez gets rough treatment and half the time I don't think he's just looking for something but the tricks done now needs to start putting the ball in the back of the net!
Lfc matt

Carroll stayed on his feet through a few hefty challenges and shoves, and showed good strength in shielding the ball a few times.
Suarez only has to go down a bit easy once in a game, and everyone starts on about diving- never mind that he gets no protection from any f***ng ref- its a joke

I think the FA has a lot to answer for, firstly the dual standards they impose ie backing Rooney in his fight to overturn a ban that was completely justified, and imposing longer bans on players who dare to object to an unjustified ban. clubs are very reluctant to objecying( Cahill beeing a rare occaision) Also the refeering in the Prem as a whole is abbismal, It's no good you all ranting about the poor refeering decisions on this website. We all should be levelling it at the FA, after all we the fans pay a lot of money to travel and watch these games only to be thwarted by poor refeering decisions, there must be a FA web page that we should all be levelling our anger at and not slating our own players

I was inside the Pyramids on a trip and i didnt see heiroglyphics at all, mayby it was a rave that you were at hammered on narcotics!

I definitely didn't write that las part above.^

I was mocking his choice of players, one a striker who managed to net a couple of goals for Scunthorpe and the other who failed to make the grade for trabszonspor. Never, ever good enough.

I guess some people don't know what banter is...

defensive midfielders like jay spearing who have fire in their heart and give it 100% in every tackle are now non-existent in the premiership. he is a terrific workhorse. i like players like that. cheikh tiote, jay spearing, steven gerrard when he was young, lee cattermole and even scott parker are all players who give it absolutely everything into a tackle and that is what i love. why do referees make the english game so boring? why can't we have a good old-fashioned game of football when tackles that get the ball are applauded and managers tell youngsters 'thats how you tackle, son'.

it is a real shame. real real shame that football has come to this. sliding tackles are basically useless and 80% of the time result in a yellow card just because it might hurt someones foot. ridiculous. let us bring back english football! bring back the sliding tackle!

mynamesnigel

Mascherano done it

First time I've ever agreed with Vinny Jones and Neil Ruddock but they basically said football is like a non contact sport today. Whilst I wouldn't want a return to the 'Chopper' Harris days tackling in football is as much part of the game as a pass or shot... it's a type of skill. If done well it's something to admire... remember the days when a good tackle was roundly applauded Gerrard often used to set the tone in the big games with a sliding tackle in his early days.

Even worse is interpretation by referees... there is no consistency.

Richards

That is the key word; interpretation! One ref views it differently to another and that is where the inconsistencies come from. Some of the rules which are interpretationť are always going to cause debate and difference of opinion because of this. Only way you would get consistency is if the same ref reffed all the matches and even then you would still struggle!!

I'd have given a yellow myself along with plenty of others but some see it as a red. Very similar to the goal scoring chance decisions over the weekend too. I think Cahil should have been sent off for Bolton as did the ref but the powers that be at the FA do not.

Unless it is a black and white, set in stone rule like giving a goal kick if you shoot wide there will always be differing decisions because it is open to one person's interpretation. But it stirs debate and isn't that what the game is all about.

Davey
