He has been hammered for years and I include myself in the hammering but . I thought Skerne played well today and saved both Sakho and Can some really red faces, well done Martin.

Always going to be close today and its no ones fault its called cancelling each other out. Of course I'd of loved the win as I think 4th is looking abit distant at the mo but there's a few games left yet.
Keep the faith

Believable3 Unbelievable0

We've got 14 games left, no doubt we won't be able to win them all but there's a bit of time left for other teams to falter and for us to scrap for the points on offer.

Our next game is against Tottenham, an inform team with the buzz of a League Cup final to look forward to and a revenge scalp to get from when we shove ha'penny'd them at White Hart Lane.

That is a decisive game, for both us and obviously Spuds, it could see us go level with them and United (pending West Ham, result tomorrow) or fall behind the marching pack considerably. Still too many points on offer to write our chances off, i feel.

Everton will plod on like that.

A poor side.

Stevie looked a bit out of place and struggled at times.

Can stood out for me and our defence was yet again solid.

Believable8 Unbelievable6

I think if Sakho makes those mistakes against a decent team we will be badly punished, time to play football and a time to just thump it up the field so we can regroup.

It was my intention not to post on this site anymore but I have been reading occasionally, but you Davey have forced me finally to reply to one of your nauseating posts, you are a grade 1 walnut whip Davey and you need to have those red tinted Liver Bird Istanbul Bob Paisley John Bishop Dancing Kopite glasses surgically removed. You are the type of head in the sand they can do know wrong fan, your putting a positive spin on a game we should have won at a canter, but yet again the manager jolly well messes up, who in there right mind would take Couthino off when Sturridge is coming on? The one player we have that can play a thread the eye of a needle pass to the one natural finisher we have at the club against an average team parking the bus!

Your covering your apse for the "you should be ashamed of yourselves" drivel you've been spouting.

When we don't make top 4 Davey ( because we won't, and it's Rodgers fault that we won't ) you will brush off your previous attacking of others posts and pull the "I support the team", cobblers, which will be a total cop out.

Posters who you have attacked have had every right to question the Manager, because of the complete balls up's he's orchestrated this season another example being tonight, and I take my hat off to them, they have the balls to question what's happened this season and for me they are real fans.

Thank you Woro. Well said.

Bang on the money waro. Poor poor tactical substitutions, a manager unwilling to learn from his mistakes. Hellbent on a formation that offers limited penetration over defensive solidarity. Everton there for the taking and we faltered. Stumbled over the line across Bolton, flattering to decieve across the board. The wealth of talent is not to be sniffed at, still a lot to play for but Rogers and his tactical ineptness does not bode well. We will scrape points because we have players of quality, unfortunatly this will continue to mask the deficiencies in our system until it's too late.

08 Feb 2015 00:28:20
very well said waro , if we don't get top 4 its all rogers. Its killing me how we played today there was no intensity no desire to win. I saw the spur- arsenal game, and saw the way their midfield fought for every ball, saw the madrid derby now that's how you play a derby not how we played.
Everton was there for the taking but Rodgers and his stupidity screwed it up for us. Honestly I have no hope for this season, or any other season as long as rogders i with us

Agree6 Disagree5

08 Feb 2015 06:33:52
Excellent post Waro, This was a huge 2 points dropped, Everton were awful and we couldn't brake them down, BR has it in his head that we don't need a recognised striker on the pitch, If we did yesterday we would have won, if he didn't take off our only creative attacking midfielder we might have won, If he he had taken off Gerrard and pushed Can into a more attacking role we might of won, all overlooked.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - there were a lot of other things that let us down. Everton have been struggling since the second half of last season against teams that press them high up the pitch. So what happened to our high press? It was intermittent, lacked conviction and allowed them to play around it easily. Most of the times it was just 2 players doing the pressing, which is not the way to do a press, it requires at least 3 or it is easy to play round it.

Everton were completely lacking confidence, we were flying high, yet you wouldn't have known that watching the game. Only Ibe looked like he had real confidence, the rest looked nervous especially Allen, who looks completely bereft of any confidence.

They have two headless chickens in midfield that should have been forced to wear themselves out chasing the ball in midfield. Instead we kept the ball at the back, passing it around there while they were able to rest and let us pass ourselves into trouble.}

Couldn't believe it when PC came off! Was playing well too and was the one player that looked like he would play the killer ball! Woulda took SG of imo, sorry to see Lucas go off as well

Agree3 Disagree0

07 Feb 2015 20:05:53
Annoying game football: with the same 11 players you have to defend for your life and also attack and create chances. How can you do that?

It was a bit too much for us today both tasks. Still we became amasingly solid in defence - that is our 4th consecutive clean sheet in the PL (though I thought that Can and Sakho were living dangourasly at times, it is ok once in while to kick the ball to the sky and not risking losing it in front of goal).

in order for us to create chances against team that close us up like this I think we need all 4 - coutinho, Sterling, Lallana and Sturridge in the starting 11. Tuesday will be a serious reality check although probably a much more open game. Spurs look like the hottest team in the league and definitley have the hottest striker. Obviously I was hoping we win today but since I didn't think before the game that we can finish top4 it is not such a bad result. Keep our 3 years non losing record in derbies and give our defenders and GK a bit more confidence for the two other important competitions - FA cup and Europa League.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Can only made one mistake, sakho seemed like on a one man mission to give them a goal today! Bit of a 50 pence head too!

Agree3 Disagree7

07 Feb 2015 19:52:01
Losing Lucas was a blow today. Allen did well but there was no urgency in midfield, Henderson had to be more assertive. When Lucas went off I was wondering whether we could move Emre into midfield and bring Lovren on. Obviously a Derby game is not the time to try new things but if Lucas is out for a while why not try it? Emre has done well in defence but will shine in midfield.

Believable15 Unbelievable1

We became from having one of the worst defences in the league to one of the best. It will be insane to change anything there.

Agree5 Disagree1

I think I would have moved gerrard into lucas' role, just told him not to sit too deep and bring on markovic and push ibe on

Agree6 Disagree6

I wouldn't say it was trying new things, emre is a midfielder and lovren is a defender. Emre has played a few games (and impressed) in midfield as well.
But obviously Brendan thinks Allen is more suited to the defensive midfield role than emre can.

Agree1 Disagree2

Seriously put Gerrard into defensive midfield? You do realise that is probably his worst position? Big nose should have brought Lovren on for Lucas and pushed Can into midfield, then withdrawn Gerrard for Sturridge.

Agree8 Disagree3

{Ed001's Note - to be fair, against an Everton team that wasn't attacking, Gerrard might have been better off deeper.}

I don't agree ed, to me today Gerrard wanted to go out in a blaze of glory so he hung around their box waiting for the shot that would do that for him. I think he would have still be charging forward even if put vac into Lucas position.

Agree4 Disagree1

08 Feb 2015 06:48:16
Can showed against bolton what he could do further forward, something gerrard cannot do, SG doesn't deserve his place in the team at the minute, Joe Allen makes me wish I hadn't hung up my boots so early. He steals a living as a pro footballer. brilliant at controlling a ball and passing 10 yards.brilliant at controlling a ball and passing 10 yards.brilliant at controlling a ball and passing 10 yards.

Ed001 are you around?
what did you think. went for the draw at 75mins?
Thinking about the europa league?

Believable15 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - wrong team started, he went with Gerrard out of sentimentality. Then compounded the error by putting on Allen when Lucas got injured. It was always going to be difficult against a team defending so deep, but relying on Gerrard to produce this season is just pointless. Trying to stay awake for it was the most difficult thing, Everton never tried to win and we were too pedestrian, back to the passing it around at the back until we got ourselves into trouble. Ugh. They were there for the taking and we let them off the hook.}

Nice one lad. couldn't agree more.

It can be quite frustrating as a fan to see us playing and knowing we don't look like scoring, really lacklustre performance.

Wow. Wow omg! Coutinho and sterling off, Gerrard still on. Your kidding me.
And if by some miracle we should luckily win this terrible match BR will think he's a genius.
He's clueless
Last season he looked good cause we had a small squad so the team picked itself

Believable13 Unbelievable10

You are talking rubbish. I think Cout is injured and Sterling was really poor but don't let that stop your little agenda of having another pop at Gerrard.

Agree11 Disagree14

07 Feb 2015 19:25:38
Coutinho and sterling off, Gerrard
================
Because maybe he was the most threatening out of the 3. Anyway I think the subs were with Wednesday in mind and doubt Gerrard will be playing

Agree5 Disagree7

He's been utterly dreadful, I and I'm sure many others could see that early on, why he's still picked is beyond me, he literally offers nothing at this stage because his set pieces are terrible too.

Agree13 Disagree1

07 Feb 2015 19:29:23
I'm going to go ahead and assume Coutinho's substitution was precautionary because of the knock he got. I'm hard pressed to see Rodgers subbing him for tactical reasons after he was in the heart of our only real good spell in the game.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Feb 2015 19:33:07
Glad to see your post Irish, Its disgraceful the posts about Gerrard. They ignore anything good he does in a game just because the latest trend in here "Gerrard is a passenger" . How I wish that over head kick went in, how fitting that would've been for his last derby

Agree6 Disagree8

Sorry but Gerrard carried little to no threat and, on top of that, provided little to no movement, workrate or creativity. He did nothing in the game, why is that so difficult for fans to swallow?

Agree8 Disagree4

07 Feb 2015 19:49:30
I don't fancy our chances on Wednesday ,because we play Spurs Tuesday but I can't remember who we play on wednensday .

Agree8 Disagree0

Really a poor derby, but I think Everton played for a draw, and achieving that by countering our tactics.
Don´t think BR could have done a lot to change a game, as Everton had parked the bus for most of it.
I was also baffled by the sub of Pip instead of Gerrard, but I think he carried a knock from the first half.
It was clear to see that Gerrard has grown frustrated about the situation, his body can´t match his football intelligence unfortunately.

Agree1 Disagree5

Agree some odd subs, but while Gerard lacked a bit of mobility in the high press, he did look dangerous when the chances fell. Almost hit top corner with a free kick, could have been a tap-in when Sterling went direct instead, and the overhead kick was almost a legendary moment.

I think the main issue for me was we lost any penetration from midfield with Allen on and Coutinho off, meaning Everton could drop deep and pack the spaces making the game pretty difficult to break down.

I'd have loved to seen someone come on at RCB to push Can pushed into Midfield over Allen, however we clearly lack a backup there that everyone trusts. Failing that we should have left on Coutinho on and taken off either Sterling or Gerard. We could have done with that touch of creativity at the end.

Agree1 Disagree4

The Irish rover.
I suppose you want rush, dalglish on the pitch too.
Bottom line is Gerrard is finished at liverpool. And stayed on a year more than he should of.
Yea we all love Gerrard, and suarez, and Torres, and rush and dalglish and Barnes and Molby etc etc etc
Sentiment doesn't win football matches.

Agree7 Disagree4

08 Feb 2015 07:23:35
"Coutinho and sterling off, gerrard still on- probably because he carried the most treat" You mad bro?.
That game was crying out for either gerrard to drop in or can to push forward when lucas went off with either studge or a defender on depending on gerrard/can replacing lucas, markovic to come on if couts was injured and lallana to come on for sterling. Lambert on so late with no actual link between the midfield and him with sturridge made us less likely to score. Bring back the days of us only having 11 first team players because Brenda gets sub decisions right as often as Jamie Carra scored.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - do own goals count in that? If so Carra was quite a regular scorer.......}

Rogers bagged a couple of own goal worthy substitutions last night Ed.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - very true. Bringing on Allen has to rank as one of the most bizarre choices ever. Thankfully we didn't need all 11 players as Everton had no intention of trying to win last night. They really disappointed me, I have to be honest. Everton as a club deserve better than that meek, insipid display against their main rivals. It was not right.}

Which is why many believe will fail in our hunt for CL footie due to bizarre subs and team selections like we saw last night. As for the shambles that the Blues have become, they can thnk the "eternal optimist" and the "media darling" who is more of a star a star at avoiding relegtion (and eventually getting releated) than anything else. They deserve more than that shambolic manager they have now

Agree5 Disagree15

Roy- most of you have tunnel vision. 1 disagree. He did great and probably cemented his place.

Agree11 Disagree2

I be got Man of the Match on Dutch TV over here in the Netherlands, all in the studio voted for him.

Agree4 Disagree0

He fulfilled his defensive/tracking back duties to full effect making sure the defence wasn't left needlessly exposed. He ran from the first whistle to the last. He carried a serious attacking threat which Everton struggled with (and which i think we should of tried to utilise more) and made a number of good surges into the box which, except for one deflected Sterling pass come shot, were never found by team mates. For a young player getting a very rare start in a massive game I thought he acquitted himself superbly. He got man of the match on the French stream I watched as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

He looked a little shaky at first but once he settled into the game he looked good. I hope to see him more often in the first team ^_^

Serious lack of quality today, particularly since coutinho went off. Was pleased to see sturridge come on, but there's not been any kind ig chances for either team for a long time. Very boring watch. Clearly I'd rather take a boring draw than an exciting loss though

The criticism Gerrard gets on here is a total embarrassment

Believable13 Unbelievable17

Couldn't agree more Chris

Agree5 Disagree13

It's fair criticism, he was a great player, but he isn't anymore. That's a fact. He doesn't deserve to be in the team.

Agree11 Disagree4

For the record, I wasn't criticising Gerrard, it was more a frustration of where BR is playing him.

Agree5 Disagree0

Just because of what he has done in the past does not mean he is immune to criticism. So it is ok to say about anyone else is playing bad but he is untouchable? Like his rant at Coutinho for shooting? Bet he did not have a go when it went in against Bolton.

Agree9 Disagree2

Unfortunately I agree with Mr Dennis, he was a wonderful wonderful player but I don't think there should be a place for sentiment here. I think if it wasn't a derby game he wouldn't be playing. I would have brought him on as a sub and he still would have gotten his adulation.

Just can't see what Gerrard brings the team anymore

Agree6 Disagree0

Bringing off coutinho and keeping gerrard on is an embarrassing managerial decision - coutinho wasnt playing particularly well but he was at least keeping busy and making space for himself, we have had no clear chances since he was subbed and gerrard has done nothing. this is damaging the team.

Agree5 Disagree1

07 Feb 2015 19:24:17
Agreed, we took off the only player ,apart from Ibe, who looked like creating anything. Very strange. No urgency, no pressing, no pace. Poor

Gerrard is a passenger.
Why have sterling and coutinho closing down and gerrard strolling around on the right. Ibe should be playing where gerrard is, and markovic right wingback

Believable7 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Don't worry, Liverpool will be rid of the "passenger" soon.}

He's a passenger on the right forward position. Lucas injured, drop gerrard in, push Ibe forward and markovic right wing back.
I wasn't suggesting we hand him his p45 a pack of bread and send him on his way.

Agree5 Disagree1

Was about to post the same. No need for sentiment. He is getting in the way and not closing down. Yes he can still take a free kick. that's it.

Would take him off for Sturridge and drop Sterling back.

Agree10 Disagree0

He's not a defensive midfielder either, we've seen that on more than one occasion. The harsh reality is that time has caught up with Gerrard.

Ed001 has given his opinion on the pros and cons of Rodgers both as coach and manager, the majority of it making a lot of sense.

Personally I think it'll be fascinating to see how things pan out over the rest of the season and the summer, particularly in terms of the coaching/DOF/management structure.

I wonder if the constant reviews (quite right too) mean Rodgers has really had his day, or will he be able to manoeuvre into a position where he accepts a DOF and stays. Interesting.

Thanks, as always, to the Eds, for all your hard work.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he promised the title, he is not even in contention, so he has failed miserably to even make a fight of it.}

Agree6 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - more fool you.}

07 Feb 2015 15:55:13
Ed002 you are simply wrong in my opinion although I respect yours and agree with you say most of the time on this occasion I dont.
Rogers has done a good job, we overachieved last season and lost one of the best players around in the summer. Along with injuries that has rocked us.
We are playing good football and have a far better squad that previous seasons. Next season we will be strong, Markovic, Lallana, Can, Sakho all looking like good signing now they are settling, and don't forget our squad is incredibly young. Sad to see stevie go but building for the future is key, next year the swaud will be a year older and better for that. Migs seems to be doing quite well and may yet turn good

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - Rodgers has done a dreadful job since he arrived. He has pissed away enormous sums of money and the club has achieved nothing but CL qualification for this season - and then that was completely screwed up. If the owners want to continue with such progress, then they have their man.}

More fool the owners for actually believing him.

07 Feb 2015 16:50:54
Cleggy , you say we don't have the spending power of others , how about £120m in one summer , isn't that enough spending power ?

Agree3 Disagree0

07 Feb 2015 17:03:27
judge him when he leaves.

Agree0 Disagree0

The main concern for me was how we fought so hard last season to get into the CL only to fail miserably on the big stage. It was embarrassing. I put this down to 2 things. The transfer committee and Rodgers inexperience at the top level.

If we had bought top quality players in the summer transfer window we would have been better prepared to cope with the increased fixtures and injury problems. Instead we found ourselves with Sturridge injured and no one good enough to step in and take over. Also, Rodgers couldn't handle the increased fixtures and struggled to rotate his squad effectively and we were quite frankly awful.

Is Rodgers good enough to take us forward? I'd say yes for now. He was always going to struggle in unknown territory, but it's about how he learns from it and how he uses that experience for future benefit.

As for the title challenge. I don't think anyone really expected that. A top 4 finish was always the most realistic target. Also I'd be grateful ed if you could provide a quote or a link referring to Rodgers promise of a title challenge. Just for personal interest.

Yes we spent 100plus but how much did he bring in aswell as losing are best player but to say he's done a dreadful job is harsh he hasn't won the league yet but it takes time it took fergie 6years to do at united it doesn't work choping managers all the time . We play great football under him and where improving each game

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - The bottom line is that the owners want success on and off the field. Off the field the club are doing well with their commercial push. On the field the club has massively overspent since the owners arrived accounting for the very significant debt the club finds itself in. Given the permission to spend in the summer on the basis of achieving success with a challenge for the titles in the Premier League and Champions League has failed miserably.}

We might have spent £120m but had to sell the best player in the league to do this, now if we could have kept Suarez and spent the money on top of that you might have a point, although Pipco, Studge and Can will be worth £120m in a year or two anyway.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Suarez did not want to play for Liverpool and did everything he could, including threatening to take the club to court to get out.}

07 Feb 2015 17:24:02
{Ed002's Note - He has failed miserably - and that is absolutely clear to everyone.}
=======================
Not sure if its clear to everyone, I mean if Suarez stayed we could be fighting for the title and everyone will be singing Brendan's praises, and before you tell me Suarez gone, move on; I have but unfortunately the club have n't by not replacing him, and this is down to the fabulous committee, you tell me Brendan have the final say, and logic tells me he must have had to compromise else what's the point of the committee. I won't loose sleep when he is sacked in the summer, but not so optimistic his replacement will be much better. I think the worm you referred to in a different post is positioned one level above BR

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Why is so difficult to grasp how much Suarez wanted to leave the club - you are just continuing to live in the past. Face up to the situation as it is now.}

07 Feb 2015 17:24:33
Ed002 is spot on, BR Has failed miserably.

Eds please do us a favor and start commenting about how you played Football Manager. It seems you are living in a fantasy world.
We have City, Chelsea and United who are buying whoever they want and I'm not talking just the last 2 years Rodgers was here, I'm talking like the last 5 years. Really what planet are you living in? We haven't won the PL the last 20+ and you expect from a new manager to win it in his first 2, 3 or even 6 years?
Maybe you can both cherry pick the manager of your liking in the Football Manager. Good luck there.

{Ed001's Note - are you really this much of an imbecile or is it an act? Try not to comment on things you clearly don't understand. Go back to your fantasy world where Rodgers is a great manager and not failing to keep his own promises.}

{Ed002's Note - Why is so difficult to grasp how much Suarez wanted to leave the club - you are just continuing to live in the past. Face up to the situation as it is now.}
==============================
Read my post again, I have moved on, the difference between last season when Brendan was Manager of the year and this season is Suarez, he is gone; so the committee should've replaced him with similar ilk . Thus the failure this season is collective committee fault not just Brendan

Hi Ed002,
if Origi will be brought in in the summer one or two strikers will probably leave. Who is most likely to leave and is it possible that Borini, Mario and Lambert will all leave in the summer? all the best, thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Aspas will leave and the club will try again to sell Balotelli. Lambert wants to stay but will not get regular playing time.}

07 Feb 2015 12:07:24
Now that we have Sturridge back I wonder if BR might try to create a Sturridge & Balotelli partnership & alter the formation to suit.
What are your thoughts Ed?

Robkop

Believable5 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - why would you want him to change the formation to suit a lazy *person* that can't be bothered? Just leave Balotelli where he belongs, anywhere but on our pitch.}

07 Feb 2015 13:07:32
Ed001, why don't you tell us what you really think! ;)

07 Feb 2015 14:35:08
Ed001 I'm a bit surprised to see you turn on balotelli like that. He deserves another chance. I would normally be right with you but his attitude hasn't been bad since he joined. Should we not give him and sturridge at least a few more a Shots?

I still think the tottenham game was one of our best. I can understand that Mario is a frustrating player and I get mad at him just like you. If this were anyone but balotelli people would be complaining "Why doesn't BR give this lad a shot?"

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Balotelli has been fined by the club on three, or possibly four, occasions. The club actively tried to sell him in January.}

07 Feb 2015 10:52:12
Ed001, I saw you saying how BR is not a great manager with transfers ect and his refusal for a D.O.F. I remember watching a movie the damned United (Great movie BTW) Brian Clough asking Peter Taylor to find the players for him, Could BR not get around having a D.O.F by going this route and having an Assistant who he trusts to identify players for him, Or has Football moved on too much from that now.

Thank you.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - That is not how it works. Liverpool has an extensive scouting network and a transfer committee.}

True ed, but I suppose the question is, is there a scenario where the owners scrap the committee and bring in somebody to identify players.
My answer to that would be. This is surely a dof? And we've been through all that!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No.}

07 Feb 2015 10:29:18
So it's the derby today
Hopefully after the big occasion settles
The way liverpool play should overcome Everton so here's hoping for a win

But on other news. I think the lfc management needs to fly to Dortmund
Set up camp there and literally raid their players !! :)

Believable0 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - Rebuild the team again? Another year or two of transition?}

07 Feb 2015 12:30:44
No no

Just try and go for reus and is rather have gundagon than Allen

Imagine liverpool with replacing Allen Johnson balotelli and lambert
And having top players and keeping everyone else
I think that would be a good thing
It wouldn't disrupt the overall team

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Reus won't be joining Liverpool. Gundogan won't be joining Liverpool.}

Gerrard heaps praise on Rogers is a second interview saying he wish he had been manager years ago so he could have won some leagues work him
Gerrard has every faith in him so why don't us fans ?? He clearly meant it why else would he said it

Believable4 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - you mean he praised his current manager? Wow great. It was only a few weeks ago he was saying Rafa was the best manager he had ever worked with. So what changed? What does it matter what Gerrard thinks anyway? How many great managers has he ever actually worked with? Simple, none, ever. Not with England and not with us. Rodgers might potentially grow to become one, maybe, but he certainly isn't ready yet and he should be doing his learning elsewhere to put into practice with us.}

I had a feeling you would say that ed but Gerrard could have simply not have said what he said as the interview was about his last game v Everton I mean he gave him great credit . Also FSG took Rogers on as a young experienced manager how else can he

Agree8 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - I have never blamed Rodgers for that, it was a major error by them. Not the worst error, they could have hired Roberto Martinez and we would be in a relegation battle by now, but still a mistake. As for what Gerrard says, I would rather listen to someone, anyone, else, than waste my time listening to him. He has no perspective, like I said he has never worked with a great manager to compare him to. Plus he is desperate for a place in the team, so he is hardly going to say anything other than how great the man who picks that team is. Especially as he, like all football players, are contractually obliged to say nothing derogatory about the club and its employees. So he is not in a position to say anything else.

Rodgers is an excellent coach, I don't think anyone could deny that, you can see that in the improvement players make working with him. It is management he doesn't understand, and his refusal to have a DoF to guide him in those aspects has cost us badly. That was his arrogance, so that is something he has to take a huge part of the blame for. There was absolutely no need for us to suffer while he learnt the aspects he lacked, but he refused to consider any other option. Dalglish had Bob Paisley guiding him when he first became player-manager, not making the decisions, just pointing him in the right direction. Why does Rodgers think he is so special he doesn't need it? Everyone needs help. About time he realised that doesn't make him less of a manager to accept the help he needs, it makes him a better manager. It is delegation.}

Be learning ed001 you just want him out that is fine but you have to let young managers grow I mean what manager would love this young squad with Rogers signing next season we can really push on with can Coutinho ect all improving every week

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I would prefer him to accept the help he needs willingly, than to get rid. So please will people stop this crap about me wanting him out. I just don't want him dragging the club completely out of contention forever with his inability to manage. I want him to do what he is best at, coaching, not trying to do something completely out of his skill set, management. No more buying young players, we should coach youth players through from the academy and only buy one or two ready made players to slot into the first team.}

Although he wasn't a success with England, Capello has the record of a stellar manager.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he is not a great manager though by any stretch of the imagination. Players will talk up any one they like as people, that is why so many players rave about Redknapp as a manager, despite him being crap. Players are not to be listened to in this area, they just want someone to let them eat chips and go out on the lash at night. Someone who covers up their assaults, sexual antics on holidays etc. They don't care about anything else. The boss you like is very rarely the boss you need.}

Dezyboy, I think it´s hard for BR to become a better manager if he doesn´t accept that he has flaws, because he will continuously make the same mistakes. I would like to point out a few things that will highlight his inability:
1. He has his favourite players, and he will pick them instead of other players who are better (Johnson, Allen and Gerrard to some degree). Players like Sakho, Lovren, Downing, Sahin, Balotelli and Carroll have all been treated badly.
2. His inability to shut up. If he gets sacked in the summer I think it will be partly because he said he would win us the league
3. For most of the season he has played possesion based football, with a lot of passes and no end product (he went back to the same tactics as first season)
4. A single transfer window has been a success during his spell, and he has spent between 200-300m £. Most of them have been spent on players we didn´t need or players that weren´t good enough.
5. Champions league was a disaster

I could write more points, but I think I´ve made my point clear. Despite of these issues I would still like to keep him, because he knows how to get the best out of the players.
I also think a DOF would solve some of these issues, as he would replace the transfer committee. He could also have influence on line ups, and which youngster from the academy should get a chance. Overall he would take of a some pressure from Brendan, so his main focus is coaching, which he is great at.

Agree1 Disagree3

Downing wasnt treated badly Sakho has improved immensely balo was shocking before he came so hard to agree there
Champions league was a disaster but so was the league then we were lost due to Sturrdige been out now we have our bearings

Feels like dejavu this post, haven't we gone through Gerrards comments praising BR before?

One thing I'm not sure I agree with, doubt Ed care either, but Gerrard has worked with some great managers. You can't have the CVs of Rafa and Capello then not be classed as great surely? Winning titles in the top leagues of Europe and European cups, let alone some of the players they brought from nowhere to household names must count for something.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Gerrard is far from the brightest, a few drops short of a full optic if you will.}

Downing has said that BR wanted him to stay at LFC, and afterwards he was sold?
Sakho, might never have gotten a game again if it wasn´t for injuries.
Balotelli was lazy, as it has been reported several times, so I don't get why BR would state that he doesn´t fit in the team?
As I said in my previous post, BR has spent a lot of money, and Sturridge being out injured is not an acceptable reason for our poor display. He has had his chance to buy a great striker, as it was clear that Suarez would leave.

Agree1 Disagree0

Gerrard aside. How many truly great Managers are out there? Klopp? Maybe until he makes a balls of his next team, who else? Nose and whiskey nose, granted. After that I think there's a lot operating at a very high level.
My point is, rafa could be considered in this bracket. Especially in 2005.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I disagree, Rafa hasn't won enough on a regular basis to be considered as great. Good, yes, but greatness is a whole other level.}

I was one of those calling for Rodgers head.

I think we need to be careful though, as a new manager could mean loads more changes.

{Ed002's Note - So would you want continued mediocrity Lavers? Or is it time to cut the worm from the apple?}

{Ed002's Note - So would you want continued mediocrity Lavers? Or is it time to cut the worm from the apple?}
======================

It will depend if the new manager is of better calibre . Sacking Rodgers than hiring another experiment is a very expensive way to run the club.

Agree1 Disagree0

It depends ed.

If Rodgers was to do what his idea of playing is at the start of next season like he did this season then get rid.

But if Rodgers excepts that, that style of play doesn't work like he does every Xmas then maybe let him stay.

Most of his signings last summer are starting to look good, obviously balotelli doesn't but I thought Rodgers first choice was bony, but the board wouldn't pay the 20mil.

If his arrogance doesn't stop him from seeing his mistakes then maybe he'll be fine.

Agree0 Disagree0

Steven Gerrard.

Great player - but he strikes me as a bit of a dumbass.

Why the hell should I care what he thinks or says??

I'd rather listen to the opinions of intelligent people than lap up bland PR nonsense like a braindead fanboy.

I'm not convinced of sterling as striker.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Feb 2015 08:14:36
With Origi coming in Eds, Ibe in and likelihood of Ings; and allowing for Sterling playing up top can you see us buying a top class forward in the Summer? A Benzema type/level?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it seems highly unlikely.}

Sterling isn't a good strikers rather buy a striker and leave him deeper

Agree0 Disagree0

We play one striker. We have Sturridge, Origi and both Sterling and Ibe can play there. We must have one or two youth products around. Add the unlikely sale of Balotelli as much as we'd like him to go, the incoming Ings if that's correct, where is Benzema going to play? How many players do we need?
Oh and Lambert doesn't want to leave nor Borini, unless we start terminating contracts?

So a quick question I asked myself and now would like to ask others. This comes from the angle that LFC are currently considering the future of BR.
I will use Sir Alex as an example. Perhaps he and BR have more in common then an infamous nose.
I realise we are in a different era of football now, but when a young SAF took over MUFC he took a long time for success and arguably made a few mistakes along the way. Even when MUFC were winning titles he was a far from perfect individual. Possibly he didn't have such a poor impact on the financial stability with his spending compared to BR and perhaps the club had their part to play in stopping him doing so. Compared to BR who has spent quite freely. Like I say different eras.
Point being that actually SAF came good. I'm not drawing any direct comparisons between the two managers (aside from the nose commonality) exactly, only that good managers don't need to be perfect human beings. Typically they seemed to be flawed like a lot of "geniuses".
Is BR just one of these flawed geniuses or actually a poor manager. I think much in the same way there is raw talent with a player that just needs nurturing, it's similar with him. He isn't perfect and puts his foot in his mouth. SAF through boots etc. Ultimately results on the pitch count. Work on BRs end product in the media, managing youth vs spending to bring the finances in order then great. I don't think it matters if anyone agrees with his tactics - so long as we win.
Back to SAF I bet there were loads of fans calling for his head that are now glad he stayed. Would we want to lose BR who may bring similar success because of impatience and rash decisions? Regarding disparaging remarks about BR by EDS or anyone else. I look at it that I may have bad mouthed SAF or JM and other managers. But deep down its out of a bit of jealousy and ultimately twisted albeit respect.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - jealousy? No, jealousy is not what it is, it has been shown that jealousy develops against people you have things in common with. I have nothing in common with Rodgers that I am aware of, just like you undoubtedly have nothing in common with Fergie or Mourinho. I make disparaging remarks about myself, does that mean I am jealous about myself? No.

It is nothing to do with twisted respect either. It is called a joke, it is not meant to be taken seriously. So please stop trying to be a psychologist, or trying to tell people what I think, as you clearly don't know anything about me. This is the PC-brigade trying to tell us we can't have a laugh at ourselves or other people's expense in case some little princess gets their precious feelings hurt. Well, to be quite honest, I really don't care. Just like I don't care when I am the butt of the gag. It is just a joke. People need to grow up and stop being so pathetic about these things.}

Hey eds please re read my post? I think you have missed the point totally. Where have I suggested it's a bad thing to have banter about managers or that you yourself were jealous in anyway? I was remarking about why I might bad mouth managers and more often than not its tinged with elements to do with jealousy of the success of a rival club. because BR isn't your favourite guy its fair enough he has a few nicknames big deal everyone's fair game, though for me I save the abuse for the opposition. Christ I couldn't name half the premiership managers that for me are off the radar. It's just the rival ones I'd have a go at.
My post never directly referred to you as jealous, just that jealousy can often (in my case) drive that kind of banter. Yeah probably a bit psychological profiling going on, must be the diazepam I'm on for my bad back! Yet your post directly labelled me pc brigade and pathetic? In the same sentence where you advise i don't know you so how can I judge you (which I wasnt), you judge me? Slightly hypocritical don't you think. My post wasn't a shot at any one or to stop the banter. It was actually to try and explain where it comes from and why do people could get over it. Football without banter would be pointless. I have some of my best conversations with MUFC fans loads of banter, a lot of which wouldn't find its way on here as it can sink quite low!. Hope this better explains where I am coming from.

Hi Eds,

Does the new kit deal help liverpool in terms of FFP and possible new signings for the next summer? Thanks!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - what new kit deal? It is just an alteration of the name of the manufactor's label on the shirts. New Balance are Warrior's parent company. There will no doubt have been a small amount paid to change from Warrior to New Balance, but it will be minor amounts.}

Eds, could you clear up Rafa Paez' situation for us? I see we got him in 2013 as a 19 year old, just a year later we loan with an option to buy? I know it wasn't taken up and he has gone elsewhere on loan but where was the logic in that?

Was he just not rated very highly, just smacks of an odd decision? I've never seen him play only that he is huge guy for a 20 year old.
