I would like to thank dirk kuyt for all his effort playing for liverpool(funny to think the man the fans called a headless chicken ends up in turkey!) as regards to the owners who i will admit the jurys out so far can we afford to take the moral high ground and expect to compete with other clubs whose owners are already morally bankcrupt? Is brendan a yes man, so far no im glad to say one last point the new shirt has warrior on it thats what we need on the pitch next season 11 warriors who dont know when they are beat get that and the club can move forward and john w henry gets his champions league money if not this time next year it could be deja vu. Dontforget the 96.

If the owners are still looking for someone to fill a DoF type roll then surely they could do no worse than offer the job to Roy Evans.

I think it easy to forget the great football we played when he was manager and who knows what we could have achieved if he was given the full backing of the owners at the time.

He loves the club, his playing philosophy is the same as Brendan Rodgers and he can spot talent.

JRG

Was a little unsure why Dalglish didnt bring him back Good Call !

I reckon just let Pep Segura organise the club's footballing initiative the way Brendan Rodgers tells him he wants it - youth system and scouting .

Time to move on from the old ways in more ways than one I reckon .

A new dawn , hopefully .

EdWood

No offence to Roy but he can't attract big name players

Complety disagree he was such a bad manager.

Roy put a great team together but they let him down . red mick tag

Evans was a good manager and had an excellent team playing some very nice football. He did have some issues with authority, which did let him down, otherwise he may well have won the league.
He wasn't helped by the board not backing him in the transfer market when he desperately needed defensive players. Unfortunately the board at that time, as we know, were as useful as a chocolate fireman.

However, having said all that, I don't believe he'd be the right appointment in any kind of DoF type role.

Eds this isnt a rumour but could u post it anyway as i want 2 see what other redmen fell on the subject. Anyway i am getting sick and tired of all this talk about players wanting to leave for champions league football when if they had pulled there fingers out of there arses last season it wouldnt be an issue now....... If they loved the club when they signed then they owe it to the fans to give next season there best effort and prove they are worthy enough to where the red of Liverpool...... And if they want to leave then F**k Off and give up there place for someone who does want to play for us....... What Dya think eds?

I think your spot on pal.

Me too !! B

Some players are just better than others though.

I am so happy that Maxi has said what he did. If there is any player who fits BR style of football in our team it is him

I also think that he should get a more central role AM as he is an AM by trait. we need pace on the wings and he has to be one of our most accurate passers of the ball and he only takes two three touches at most before offloading the ball. This is key as it forces the opposition to constantly chase the ball making them tired quicker.

A more central role would also eliminate the problem with him, being, that he tends to fade out of the game.

I m wid u mate. I think maxi could dod a decent job for us till sterling n suso r ready to play first team football. If we need to raise money for transfers, sell adam n spearing.

maxi hasnt gone just yet

Maxi Rodriguez has dismissed reports he has left Liverpool following rumours he had joined Newell's Old Boys in his native Argentina.

The attack-minded midfielder was expected to leave Liverpool at the end of this season after making just 21 appearances, largely as a substitute, in the 2011/12 campaign.

Maxi has 12 months left on his contract, but appeared to wave goodbye to fans when he made his most recent Anfield appearance in the thrashing of Chelsea at the beginning of May.

After he was spotted in Rosario, it has been reported he had agreed a move to Newell's, but he insist this is not the case.

Fans' favourite Maxi told Ole newspaper: "I do not know where these things come from. I have one year left on my contract at Liverpool and did not talk to anybody."

about Suarez hand ball in world cup. the best answer about suarez situation ask your self. if you are in that kind of situation what will you do? for me I do the same thing what suarez did, try to put his team in semifinal. and he do say if that kind of situation come again he will do it again.

And its not even that he tired to put his team in the semi final he just prevented his team to not concede a DEFINITE late goal. because it was still up the the other team to score a the penalty.

true that if that were in rugby that would have been a PENALTY TRY as well as a sin-bin, but, football isn't rugby and he served his punishment which was a penalty and a red card.

Totally agree with him, i would do it every week if it meant my team would win. Maybe if a few more players had that kind of ruthless will to win, we might of finished a little higher

Eds,
just would like to hear your opinion.
Do you think Liverpool will struggle the first few months of the season due to the lack of time BR has to implement his style of football, with many players off to the Euros and Olympics too.
And what do you think can Lierpool achieve next season? 4th? 5th? or even lower?

Cheers

Phil F {Ed002's Note - Give the guy a chance to look at and tweak the squad. Clubs change managers all the time and get by.}

I'm not saying that I don't want to give him a chance! I'm sure BR will suceed at Liverpool longer term!
I just wanted to hear your opinion of how Liverpool will perform next season eds.

Cheers

Who do you think our most possible signings are?

07 Jun 2012 21:17:32
I hate to sound negative but i really dont believe that rodgers will help our team blossom one bit.We will be in the same boat next year, underachieving and ending up in a position worse than this year.Mark my words.

Well your a bundle of joy, get behind the team and stop being so negative! That's not the lfc way

It's a long term plan anyway, not just one season. We have to give people more time.

The end of the world is nigh!

Look - simply put, there is no one alive today that knows how we will get on next season. You have 2 choices at present. The first is get behind the team and the new manager, and support as best you can. The second choice is to bitch and whine like a little girl. Your choice. I can see you are currently taking the second option. How's about from first thing tomorrow morning, you wake up with an f-ing smile on your sour face, look around and see what's good with the world. You might be happier, and you will defo be a better supporter.

Nick

Why would FSG give Rogers more time when they would not give the King another season?

Seems crazy to me!

07 Jun 2012 21:04:49
Is anyone else really looking forward to the start of the Euro 2012. It is better than the world cup for entertainment even. Great to see so many Liverpool players in squad. All because of King Kenny Dalglish.

More to do with Hodgson....

Maxi has not left yet. He has been quoted as saying this:

Liverpool need to stop buying players with potential, but to buy players with potential that can fit into Brendan Rogers style of football.
{Ed007's Note - Are you feeling ok mate? Do you want players with potential or not?}

Well said Ed007. You can't please some people not matter what player's you sign {Ed007's Note - I had to read it about three times to see what he meant...I don't have the patience for this baby sitting sites lol :-)

Whats wrong with this fella eds haha THE POPE

I think i know what he means,meant.

We want players who can start playing the day they sign , potential is great but it may never happen we need it now not in a few years time .

He/she (but we all know it's a he) lost me at.... but need to buy players with potential.

TRUE DEFINITION OF CONTRADICTION RYT THUR...anywhooo

I agree with the first part, that the time for buying potential is over. We have plenty of youth who we can bank on (for potential) so that we don't have throw all of our eggs in the potential basket.

We need to buy players that have the means to be a success currently as well as in the future. Young but experienced, don't have to be EPL proven but convincing enough within the leagues that they play in to be identified as or to be deemed good enough to play for liverpool with their current abilities.

07 Jun 2012 20:10:53
Maxi off to Newells Old Boxs good luck Maxi in Argentina , i've heard that Liverpool have signed Matias Suarez is this true ed's also is there any interest in of the following players- Younes Belhanda , Nick Powell , Oliver Giroud , Jackson Martinez , Gaston Ramirez , Arjen Robben , Iker Muniain , Mikael Susaeta , Estaban Granero , Nene ,Victor Moses, Scott Sinclair , Ashley Williams , Joe Allen , Michel Vorm or Leon Brittain and there is also a player in the Korean league i think his name is Dejan Damjanovic would be a great signing.

(Ed 002- use the search function)

Sorry but always wanted to do that {Ed007's Note - I hope that is a cut and paste on not a poor impression of Ed002......}

Blimey couldnt you come up with more names LOL!!

One area I am reserving judgement on is whether or not Rodgers is the real deal or will just be a yes man for FSG....

FSG on the other hand have breached the trust of LFC fans more than once...and once is too often...

They lied about abcking Kenny, saying that the league position was disappointing but they would back him...then sacked him...

They kow-towed to the mainstream media over the Suarez case and sacking Kenny, and then cowered as the mass media found new ways to continue attacking and vilifying LFC...

Henry made his fortune from hedgefunds - which has been described, by financial experts, as shadow banking, off-books casino cartel capitalism.

This sector of the financial instruments sector has been "credited" with causing the 2008 global financial crash through the heavy risk trading and gambling on toxic debt/credit default swaps/derivatives/commodities/arbitrage/sub-prime etc...

This crash continues to adversely affect hundreds of millions, if not billions of people and smaller businesses globally...

It also contributed to already risky leveraged debt deals, such as that of Waldorf and Statler (Hicks and Gillette), to default...putting the very existence of LFC under threat..

Cue the taxpayer bailed out bank, RBS, utilising the same broker (as Redalien points out) who guided the sale of LFC to H and G, selling OUR club to FSG and a shadow banker, whose activities indirectly or directly (depending on detailed analysis) helped cause the 2008 crash that profitted the shadow bankers, but caused H and G and others' debts to be called in...

People who call FSG and Henry "messiahs" for "saving" us from the leveraged debt implosion of the Texans need to be aware of FSG and Henry's background in investment banking and casino capitalism.

In this sense - they're not messiahs...they're very naughty boys....lol..

Thus it came as no surprise that the Wall Street big hitters wished to "capitalise" on LFC's disappointing league form to boot out King Kenny - the last remaining, and legendary link to Shankly's socialist, community-minded Boot Room ethos.

In it's place they are unashamedly aiming to convert LFC into a homogeneous, cash cow franchise, to generate maximised revenue streams for themselves to eventually sell and move on with a fat profit...

They utilise Ayre and anybody else to try and (seemingly successfully) persuade the less knowledgeable and more mainstream media conditioned "fans" into believing the corporate way is the only way to success, and we should all be grateful..

One has only to look at two of Europe's most successful clubs - Bayern and barca, to see that the corporate ownership route is not the only model...those two clubs are essentially owned and run for the fans by the fans...

The appointment of an ex-Goldman Sachs associate, Mr Chang, as communication director, simply confirms that FSG are moulding LFC into a corporate cash cow with a money and greed-based ethos that would have Shankly spinning in his grave...

Matt Taibi in his article in the finacial section of  Rolling Stone magazine memorably and accurately describes Goldman Sachs as "the vampire squid on the face of humanity"....responsible for subverting the American and global financial systems for it's own insatiable greed and avarice.... http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/the-great-american-bubble-machine-20100405

Chang's past links to a massive $800 million leveraged debt brokered deal (check his linkedIn profile) is little more than a sick joke...considering the fact that a leveraged debt deal almost killed the Liver bird off stone dead...

The mainstream media and FSG would have us all think that espousing socialism, the Boot Room and past glories are anachronistic...and futile...and passe...when the truth is that the Wall Street "money as ddebt" system and it's hybrid Eurozone and City of London versions are, as we are seeing every day, teetering on the brink of collapse...built as it is on an unsustainable inflationary credit bubble that ALWAYS ends up bursting and costing the working man the most....

So...will the new gaffer stand up to any further wrecking of Anfield's illustrious traditions...or will he try and just get on with footballing matters...while LFC is deconstructed and recreated as a faceless soccer franchise?

Over to you Brendan....

You, sir/madam, are a buffoon

Clueless rant. Try coming up with a point and sticking to it.

In the real world, we have to compete with the likes of United, City and Chelsea.

Rolling Stone magazine is not going to help us do that, are they?

Like it or not - they also saved from administration, and possibly playing Championship football. Some people delve too deep into trivialities, they've done OK this far - and who knows the full story about the Saurez affair - I'm pretty sure the press made up a lot of alleged decisions by FSG - we are in good hands at the moment - time will tell if it remains that way - but give our saviours a chance.

John B

Good to see that there are still a few knowlegable LFC supporters out there who don't buy into this FSG "saviour" bullsh*t.

Most of what you've written is absolute dross, im sure John Henry didn't single handedly cause the financial crisis so he could by the club. if FSG run the club at a profit through comercial deals so we comply with FFP and we win trophies i doubt you'll complain.

Ali

At last a real post. Not the rose tinted nonsense I have been reading. I doubt whether many here will understand the financial side of things. In 6 months time, if this post is still here. People will understand the wisdom behind it. But not now.
In 6 months time the anger will be deafening.
Watch Max Keiser and you will see what I mean.

Rodgers has already proved that he's not a yes man by telling the owners that he wont work under a DoF.

Oh and your post is ridiclious.

Wouldn't want to be stuck next to you on a table at a party mate.

LIVERPRES

==============================

FSG did not save the club ..
They bought it for a very very very good price, their were others bidding for the club you know.
The first poster had few valid points , FSG's model is a financial one and they are not hiding or denying it .. they believe this is the way to success , it keeps the club running and at one point profits will come .
Roy

Oh brilliant!....now I'm going to have to shift all the crap in me shed to find my "Yanks Out" placard.
ANFIELDPETE

Great post pal, you've just about summed this bunch up, I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, it would seem that this is what football has become.

Ozone

"Bayern and barca, to see that the corporate ownership route is not the only model...those two clubs are essentially owned and run for the fans by the fans..."

Barca spend their summers travelling the world fleecing football fans to finance the exorbitant salaries they pay their players and themselves. They charge 60-100 dollars for a ticket, and stroll around for 45 minutes. Their stars don't bother to come. They tried this stunt last summer in Asia - they were not well received.

If you are some kind of a socialist holding up Barca as something to be admired, you are having a laugh.

I think the original poster is one of those 'special' people who normally inhabit the conspiracy page

Puzzled

Your right Mate

But the omni oppressed can't see it.

Liverpool is no longer a club it died when Kenny was sacked.

LFC is now brand to be used as a Cash Cow or rather that is the Henry plan but it won't work and then the fun & games will start!

The Anfield Warrior

Sorry to bring this back to the top, but its the most sensible post I've read in here for weeks.

The Irish Rover posted:
Tel, nothing Rodgers has done makes him a stand out candidate for such a job, but i will be more than happy fo you to say "i told you so" at the end of a fruitful season.
===============================
Rodgers may end being our Alex Ferguson or might be our Alex Mcleish, either case we should expect our season and maybe the one after to be worse than the one just finished, I posted before if BR is to stick to his words and adopt the tika-taka or whatever you call it then our current players will need a lot of time to get used to it. Its easier for teams like Swansea because oppositions gives them more time on the ball, our players get closed down fairly quickly and have very little time to pass and get into position. I might be wrong but I can see us playing chicken Tikka and end up all over the place just hoofing the ball forward.. AVB failure in Chelsea because he panicked when his system was not getting him points and tried different things that made it even worse and was obvious the players weren't sure what they suppose to do and ended up a massive failure.

The Irish Rover posted:
I know people will say hiring Rodgers is a bold statement but so would trying to get a really top manager and the wages to go with it. The same goes for buying players, Please dont tell me that you thought £40 million net spend on players was going to do it.Kenny has started it and made us a better team but there are so many players still needing replaced.Rodgers will need help, because if angone things that while we buy £7 million Hoffenheim rejects while Chelsea are buying £40 million Hazzards and Hulks, then we are in big trouble. Splash the cash John! 5/6 quality players required to add to what weve got, not bargain basement. Rodgers is your choice, surely you should trust him. The responsability of top 4 lies at your feet, no one elses.
==========================
Spot on.. I personally think Rodgers was picked for the same reason Roy was picked 2 years ago, both dont demand high budgets. But to balance this argument , the owners did spend near enough 80 million on 4 players that contributed next to nothing last season, as business people who pumped money into their investment they would like to see an improvement , they rely heavy on stats, the stats for most of the new players were n't encouraging, if they expect to get a similar return from a player 1/2 the price, then it makes good business sense -to them- to go for the cheaper option.

Roy

We have good owners so stop going on about it. rodgers was hired because he plays tika taka football which goes hand in hand with the appointment of borrell (spelling) and seguira. we are pumping lots of money into youth so it is clear that the owners have a 5 year plan worked out. now get behind them and the owners
derryred

AVB was getting points at chelsea, he didn't panic. he left the club in 5th place 4 points off 4th averaging for the season 1.7 pts per game.
di matteo took over and finished the league campaign 5 points off 4th and in 6th place with an average of 1.5 points per game.
the stats show that AVB was a better league manager than di matteo. and as kenny dalglish showed us, cups aren't enough unless it's the champions league.

Just to say , we are a self-suffient club , br will bring more youth and unknown players here , with value for money in mind , and i see it as a good thing , everyone says about high wages, and to me its a bit sickening to see players on 200.00 grand a week , and players brought for 50 million odd pounds , is it not a good thing that we try to get savy good deals for our money, and is it not better to get players on reasonable wages, and ask them to earn their bigger money contracts with winning and being good on the pitch , i know what i would like to see..............lfc

I think some posters on here haven't yet gauged that Doumbia is average at best and has a huge ego.

Partnered with the fact his real age is probably nearing 40 he would be an awful, awful signing.

Hows he nearly 40 ?

He's fast on FIFA though so people think he's good...

G BOX

No one knows his actual age bit like Benjani hes apparently in his mid 40s

07 Jun 2012 19:27:19
What is this with Muniain? Is he this summers Aguero transfer rumour? We weren't successful last year and its the same result now. Won't get players who want CL, we have to face facts.
Soldado and Johnson rumours gaining pace. Let's hope there's something in them.
Good luck to Brendan and patience for us all.
Come on you reds!

Where do people get all these names for transfer rumours ffs..
Put your playstations away boys.
We're probably only 4 quality players away from pushing top 3 places.
Brendan needs to win over the players though and get them all on his side and work harder than ever before..

Have faith

Beggers

Best post all day!

even though i never doubted kenny when he was appointed we saw he still had a lot of doubters... lots of em thought he was out of touch etc etc
now am really surprised when rodgers was appointed how the number of doubters has just melted away since his first interview!

The benitez crew

And were those Kenny doubters proved right or wrong?

Kenny was out of touch with the media handling part of the role, not the football side. Let's hope big Brendy can be as smooth on the pitch as he has been off it.

Hi eds

I know you get asked all kinds of questions from our transfer targets to whether you what BR's favorite underwear is.

However what I wanted to know is, do any of you know if BR has gone on hol since he signed for us, and if so, do any of you know when he is back, as I presume its safe to assume we will start to make moves on our targets (outside of the tournament)

Cheers

Ray

He left the airport on tuesday June 2nd and departed on EasyJet Flight 2A357B to mallorca. he is staying in a white hotel in santa ponsa and rather than takes the lift walks down the steps to get milk in the morning, he prefers goats milk. he and his family lay by the pool normally and rest but he is due to play tennis at 5:30 tomarrow afternoon with his wife. he will return on easyjet flight 5EC785 on saturday evening. btw his favourite underware is CK because he loves the cotton feeling, a bit of a squeez though.

Love it!!

The internet is lighting up with stories of Diame signing for Liverpool?

No such Rumours here so is it the usual Rubbish?

Mojo

'The interent is lighting up'?
Blimey, that's a bit melodramatic isn't it? I could understand it if the rumour had more global appeal. It's hardly Hannah Montannah on a drunken kill-spree is it?

It might be too, but I don't think anyone on hear really gives a toss. I'm not saying he's a bad player, I just hope we get Sigurdsson soon then move onto a winger and striker.

Papa G

Some of you haven't seen Diame as he top class and offers something we don't already have with his power and ability to dominate midfield

Now that we have the new home and away kit out is there anyone that knows when the new 3rd kit is out? Really hope it isn't the purple one doing the rounds on the net!

It will be released in July for pre order but not available to buy in shop until August. The Robster.

Cheers!

I like purple...

Just wondering if we expect to see Suarez on the right next season with Carroll up top? Would fit in with Rodgers' style, especialyy after Kuyt moved?

Anfield Andy

Thats where he started his career. He often plays down the right for Uruguay aswell.

Possibly, with Muniain down the left? One can dream hey, but those three would be a right handful.

Papa G

Carrol should definately be kept under Brendan Rodgers he offers something else plus every good footballing team needs a target man to mix it up a bit
In my opinion if carrol was at Barcelona they would have won the champions league

Do you think Soldado will come? for me he looks and plays like Torres once did, he's crying out for a red shirt.
Soldado

these three players might well transform LFC

When Llorente was asked about Bielsa coming to us as manager, he literally laughed into the camera and said ''why would he go to liverpool?'' its on youtube

I herard

Its
Messi
Ronaldo
Cavani

Its about as likely as your 3.

We've got a manager.

Where is that llorente interview on youtube?

Wish Lawrenson would shut up and stop sounding so begrudging to Brendan. He's turning into a right whinger. What do you think of cole, de jong and suarez as a possible front three? I think it sounds pretty tasty.

Should sign him up we need a right winger!

The cherry picker

Cole ? you're not right. i guess you think hendo isn't liverpool standard.

Cole would play at the head of the midfield 3

do you consider (EDs included) what suarez did in the world cup cheating? or a stroke of genuis? im asking because some fans say he cheated and all this but really. would you not do the same thing. especially in the world cup? i mean he got his team through to the next round for f sakes. even the ghana players said they would do the same thing....JLFC {Ed002's Note - It was simply foul play for which he was punished.}

Cheating is what henry did to the irish team all suarez did was what any other player would have done for his team handled it so gave penalty away henry handled slyly so as to score goal

I am from ghana and an LFC fan. ( Hence my username ). What Suarez did made me so mad and angry and I hate him for doing in but to be fair I was more angry at the fact he was allowed to get away with it rather than the fact he did it. Like u said all ghana players would have done the same and also isnt fouling a player 1 on 1 the same idea, yet that isnt considered cheating at all.

Gh*Lfc

Either way its cheating, just Henry got away with it. I was devastated but if Robbie Keane did it to get us through the group stages at the euros I wouldnt care less and be honest you wouldnt either.

It's not cheting. on 90th minute he save his team not to lost the match.

I'm Irish I think it's time to forget about Henry
They probably wish they lost that match in hindsight as what happened at the world cup with evra etc

goodevening sir.i am a fan of this site and i must say you are doing a fantastic job,just want to know your opinion. on everyone lips there is only 2 name suso and stirling i agree they are highly rated players and certainly one for the future but 1 name everyone seem to have forgetten that is ADAM MORGAN the best reserve player and the leading goal scorer also dubbed the new robbie fowler don't you think ed he deserve a chance in our first team everyone opinion are the most welcome.... {Ed002's Note - I am sure Rodgers will be looking at Morgan after the summer break. Much was expected of him but I understand he did not have the best of seasons last year.}

I think Ngoo had a very good season. has A lot of of pace and acceleration for a big boy like him kinda like adebayor. strong shots, powerful runs and agile.

My guess is Sama will also make the move up to Melwood if not then sent on loan to get experience because that is all he needs, his positioning is a little off sometimes.

Ed, was he not one of the top scorers for us last year? (u18's etc)
If so should that not be a positive that even when has a carp season he can stilll score goals

GawaRed

Toni silva never even gets a mention.

Hi eds',

Lots of rumours still coming in despite the manager being on holidays. Does anyone there know when he'll be back? That's when we should see more substantial rumours.

Cheers,

Have you heard much on the kid from Chad Hassan Hissein?

He has 186 appearances and scored 106 goals and is still at a young age of 20? Are we keeping tabs on him?

Wish Lawrenson would shut up and stop Whatounding so begrudging to Brendan. He's turning into a right whinger. What do you think of cole, de jong and suarez as a possible front three. I think it sounds pretty tasty.

What do you think of de jong, suarez and muniain as a front three? with cole, downing, dos Santos as back up?

Dos santos, no thanks, would prefer to put in suso or sterling right now. dos santos is rubbish, just because he scored 1 good goal doesn't mean he's any good!

Downing is a winger with no speed, can't cross, no skill and can't take on players. Yes he created a lot of chances but with them chances how many ended as goals?

Was that his fault or just bad finishing from the strikers.

Eric the red

He's got speed but no balls (skills). and the chances he creative weren't clear chances it was crap crosses and stuff like that.

Is that his fault though? I agree that he's not got much in the way of speed or trickery but he did create 55 chances last year. It's not his fault if nobody could put them away
AD

You just finished saying Downing was useless (paraphrasing) but then, you go on to say he created a lot of chances?? Isn't that what he was brought in to do...and doesn't it therefore follow that creating a lot of chances for a winger should be an endorsement rather than an indictment?? (keep up with me lad...I know it's not easy for ya)

As for Downing's setups not winding up in the back of the net, how does this have anything to do with Downing?...are you proposing that once Downing crosses the ball, he should then run into the box to get on the end of his own crosses??

Tools should be banned from this site!

Downing is far from the problem... Carroll being a useless donkey with absolutely no touch is the problem. Different positions but, throw in Henderson and Adam as additional pieces of crap on our side.

Downing gets slagged but, he is actually a player that can redeem himself next season. Sadly, not so confident about the prospects of the other aforementioned three players.

Red (Not Blue) Lenses

Red not blue your a tool... Talking about Carroll and hendo like that, young ones trying to establish them selves, I guarntee you they both end up with a better career than downing

They may be red lenses - probably red paint over them because you certainly can't see football talent, Henderson is quality, probably a future International captain ( sadly it will be England ). Hope your statement about tools being banned from this site happens - because that will proably be your last post.

John B

Downing has not progressed anywhere near the amount he should have because he hasn't got the mental strength or determination to really be a top player. I don't think he has progressed much as a player since his Middlesbrough days.

It is widely reported he is s**t hot in training, but when it comes to game day, he goes into his shell. I'm not sure what approach a manager should take to get the best out of him, I can only hope Rodgers picked up a few tricks from Mourinho on how to get players to play to their maximum.

On his chance creation etc, I don't know how many clear cut chances he created, but it's not his fault if the player on the end of his cross doesn't put it away.

Just a thought but little Johnny Gorman of Wolves, he only has 12 months remaining on his contract. hasnt really played much for Wolves but seems to have broken into the N.Ireland squad. It would be worth a punt as he looks a very tricky little player, and one for the future. Any clubs shown a interest in him Ed?

hey eds
(1) cant we go for two central MFs as we are in europe this season and it may take a toll on players after new year.

(2) If we are going for one, who would suit us more
siggurdsson or rasmus elm?

thanks

{Ed002's Note - Personally I don't see CM as a priority.}

We need a cam asap

As stated i think we need a striker and a winger

Winger striker and full back i think should be prioritys unless a midfielder becomes available

is it just me or has suarez featured alot more in articles on the liverpool website in the past few days. before that he was not mentioned in anything. i wonder if the club has decided to keep him this summer. just a thought. probably not true but it would make me happy. YNWA

Forgot to add that the club had him greet a new sponsor. surely they cant be too concerned with his image if they are letting him an ambassador for the club with new sponsors. just my two cents

I am sure the owners are very concerned about his image. They would be stupid not to be.

Entirely possible he could stay, but it will mean educating him in how to behave. The unsportsmanlike antics can't go on.

Hi Eds, could Rodgers' philosophy help convince Barcelona to loan us some of their upcoming talent such as Tello as he could get more first team action and play in a similar style to Barca? I realise it's unlikely, just a thought. {Ed007's Note - You kind of answered your own question there.}

I do agree but barca might be reluctant to loan their young saars to the english league. i mean one match at stoke can end his career

I'll have to admit, Im not looking forward to next season, Rodgers want my 1st choice, even 2nd or 3rd choice if im honest, But he's here now and there's nothing we can do about so ill have to support him, I had hoped fsg would make a good strong choice after Hodgson and Kenny turned out to be disasters and brought the club backwards, Rodgers has to do well or we'll be right back where we started, again

It looks we are gonna have to hold on to Kennys signings, Id love nothing nothing more than to see the back of carroll, downing, henderson and adam. id hold on to coates coz we didnt get a chnace last season to see if he was any good, he could turn out ok, Of the rest of the squad... kuty has gone, id let carra go, he's just getting worse the last 2-3 seasons and he cost us a lot of games and goals last season. Id sell spearing, maxi and let sterling go on loan. There's talk of skrtel, reina and suarez wanting out of anfield, Id let reina go and get vorm, reina has been sloppy the last 2 seasons, id love to keep skrtel. but i wouldnt be bothered if suarez left, hes a trouble maker and always brings bad publicity to our club, no time for him after the evra incident, but if im completley honest, i had no time for suarez before we signed him, what sort of players bites another player and spits in another players face? horrible man and we all seen him cheat ghana in the world cup, i happily take 22-25m for him and be done with him.

I hope we get a few good signings in this summer, We've been linked with a lot of top names but the last week or so we've been linked with players like diame, sigurdsson, moses etc and they will not improve our team. i still cant believe kenny spent over 100m on that lot last summer. why are english players always double the price of foreign players? Carroll 35m - Hazard 32m. Henderson 20m - podolski 6m, its crazy

Anyways, Roll on next season, hopefully its a good one. I hope im wrong but i think next season is gonna be worse than last year

Derek YNWA

You missed the T off roll!

Talk about doom & gloom. Are you really a LFC supporter Derek?

So basically you want half the squad gone... you total mug! you dont know what your talking about!

Turn that frown upside down...

Phooey

Well you are a happy bunny! You want most of the team out and then say roll on next season. With supporters like you we'll all end up like the bluenoses. Why don't you just go there now?

You havnt watched Siggurdsson play obviously. Rodgers is by far the best option we had, a young manager with fresh ideas. Fickle opinions that you have made, in my opinion.

Anfield Andy

07 Jun 2012 15:37:57
I thought it would be prudent to issue the following rules which could be printed off and stuck to the fridge so that our WAGS understand the rules for when the Euro's are on.

LIST OF RULES

1. >From 8th June to 1st July 2012, you should read the sports section of the newspaper so that you are aware of what is going on regarding the Euro's, and that way you will be able to join in the conversations. If you fail to do this, then you will be looked at in a bad way, or you will be totally ignored. DO NOT complain about not receiving any attention.

2. During the Euro's, the television is mine, at all times, without any exceptions. If you even take a glimpse of the remote control, you will lose it (your eye).

3. If you have to pass by in front of the TV during a game, I don't mind, as long as you do it crawling on the floor and without distracting me. If you decide to stand nude in front of the TV, make sure you put clothes on right after because if you catch a cold, I won't have time to take you to the doctor or look after you during the Euro's month.

4. During the games I will be blind, deaf and mute, unless I require a refill of my drink or something to eat. You are out of your mind if you expect me to listen to you, open the door, answer the telephone, or pick up the baby that just fell from the second floor....it won't happen.

5. It would be a good idea for you to keep at least 2 six packs in the fridge at all times, as well as plenty of things to nibble on, and please do not make any funny faces to my friends when they come over to watch the games. In return, you will be allowed to use the TV between 12am and 6am, unless they replay a good game that I missed during the day.

6. Please, please, please! if you see me upset because one of my teams is losing, DO NOT say "get over it, it's only a game", or "don't worry, they'll win next time". If you say these things, you will only make me angrier and I will love you less. Remember, you will never ever know more about football than me and your so called "words of encouragement" will only lead to a break up or divorce.

7. You are welcome to sit with me to watch one game and you can talk to me during halftime but only when the commercials are on, and only if the halftime score is pleasing me. In addition, please note I am saying "one" game, hence do not use the Euro's as a nice cheesy excuse to "spend time together".

8. The replays of the goals are very important. I don't care if I have seen them or I haven't seen them, I want to see them again. Many times.

9. Tell your friends NOT to have any babies, or any other child related parties or gatherings that requires my attendance because:
a) I will not go,
b) I will not go, and
c) I will not go.

10. But, if a friend of mine invites us to his house on a Sunday to watch a game, we will be there in a flash.

11. The daily Euro's highlights show on TV every night is just as important as the games themselves. Do not even think about saying "but you have already seen this... why don't you change the channel to something we can all watch?", the reply will be: "Refer to Rule #2 of this list".

12. And finally, please save your expressions such as "Thank God the Euro's is only every 4 years". I am immune to these words, because after this comes the Champions League, Italian League, Spanish League, Premier League, etc etc.

Thank you for your cooperation.

WB

Now that Rodgers has been appointed and the dust has begun to settle, i was just wondering how many of us feel this is a good appointment.
i will hold my hands up and admit that the only positive step forward i could see would of been to reappoint Rafa, many strongly disagreed with this feeling this was nothing more than a step backwards, but i for one am very optimistic about the future of the club and see this as an excellent step forward i know only time will tell.
i think if we had of kept kenny in charge another season we may of missed out on rodgers to sombody else.

agree good signing
disagree bad signing

Jaydee YNWA

Ask the question again at Christmas

So you think appointing one of the best up and coming young managers/coaches who has fresh ideas as a step backwards and re-appointing a former manager who ran out of ideas and falls out with everyone as a step forwards?? Didn't we just do the former favourite manager thing.

The club needs a fresh start. Don't you get it?!

okay 1 or 2 players have been a let down, so far....but with all the players you want out, we wouldn't have half a team left! And also no money to buy in new talent.
We purchased quite a lot of players and it always takes time for a team to gel so give it more time. Kenny by the way was no disaster and Hodgson was unlucky and took the team at a bad time with s**tty owners!

Eds,
After reading trough many, many posts I would say Liverpool have an interest in the following players:

Strikers:
Soldado
De Jong
Lewandowski

Midfielders:
Sigurdsson
Elm
Belhanda
Ramirez
Boudebouz
Schürrle
Muniain

Am I right? If not correct me please.

is there any truth in the rumours liverpool are preparing a £16million bid for Adam Johnson? Would be a great signing but i can't see it myself

I could see it, Johnson's out of the England squad because he's not been playing and I can't see him getting much more game time next season. If Johnson was playing regularly he'd be a shoo-in for England imo, even Downing's gone to the Euros despite having what most would agree has been a dreadful season. So if Johnson wants to play regularly he's not got many options. If Spurs or Arsenal go in for him then I think it's unlikely he'd join us but if not and he wants to play regularly we're the best club for him. Don't get me wrong, I think it's unlikely he'll leave City but he should if he wants to make a real name for himself

Red Ollie

No, they would like to use johnson and adebayor plus cash as part of a deal they are putting together for an offer to spurs regarding bale!

Hi Eds,

Superb site, love your work. How will the apparent return of Joe Cole to our squad affect possible transfers? Do you see him being deployed centrally or as a wide option? Cheers {Ed007's Note - I would say he will be a wide option, very wide and very south would be my guess.}

Very south?

Not wide forward more of a deep lying "playmaker role".

Haha Ed,

Eds, just a thought really, should we expect to see Suarez playing in from the right more this season with Carroll or a new front man leading the line, as would suit Rodgers' style of play?

Anfield Andy

From the left with a new right winger and a new striker..

Cheers

Phil F

I have a feeling rodgers will rotate between suarez n carrol for the lone striker position depending on the opposition. Maybe we may end up not signing a striker afterall, though i hope we do. Sign susaeta for the right wing, n put bellamy on the left. Hence a front 3 of Suarez/Carrol, susaeta n bellamy. That strike force looks pretty formidable to me. Second choice front 3 would be maxi, downing n carrol. Play gerrard behind the front 3, henderson as cm, n lucas to protect the back 4. I think we should sign a more attack minded left back for our home games. Enrique is a good defender but poor goin forward. I know i will get a lot of stick for saying play only one of suarez n carrol, but isnt that how barca always play? Rodgers philosophy seems similar, n i very much doubt he will play 2 strikers at the same time.
So my ideal n realistic transfer business wuld be:
Ins: (approx transfer fees)

Susaeta: 9 million
Sigurdsson: 7 million
Armero: 7 million
Jordy Clasie: 8 million

Sell adam, cole, spearing, aquilani.
Loan out Robinson n suso as they r 2 youngsters who will definitely make the grade. Realistic enough eds?
Indian Buzzer

Great question (NOT)...yeah the eds will be picking the team next season...how the huck does anyone know where rodgers will play him....rodgers probably doesnt know himself!

Killerpool

That's what he did at Ajax with Huntellar. And we all know how good he was there! I think that he would be effective in that position

Maybe Luis Suarez as the new fangled 'false no.9'

Eds,

I had posted yesterday about the departure of Steve Clarke but my post somehow didn't get through...Anyway, Kevin Keen has also left the club...Your thoughts on the situation ed..Are we going to get some new coaching staff?

Red PG {Ed007's Note - No. Brendan Rodgers is going to do everything himself.}

Yes thats right he will also be making the tea and cleaning the toilets! No need for anyone else...

Just reading comments made by Brendan Rodgers, what a guy. Hes astute, i mean Siggurdsson for anywhere under £10m will be a bargain, hes wise without being arrogant, commanding without being a dictator, determined without being narrow minded and leaves a good quote, and whats more he has a plan to develop our beloved club.
The fact that he sees the fans as a weapon against our opponents, and recognizes the fact that we never give up, such as Istanbul shows how much he craves the backing of the stands, which im sure we will all give, and it will help make Anfield a fortress again making it 'the longest 90 minutes' of their season, to use just one quote.
Its such a breath of fresh air to these managers who come in and give the whole 'ill need time to get to know the squad' and then fumble there way into the season without a clear approach, Brendan Rodgers has come in and said 'I will improve this club, we will get back to the glory days', not in those exact words but its better than recent managers who have been dictated in their tactics by the type of players at the club, even if those tactics are not as effective. Rodgers is implementing his style of play on the squad as opposed to the players indirectly dictating it.
I like that he was not willing to discuss joining unless he was the no.1 choice, it reminds me of Clough in a way. His way of speaking to the media reminds me of Shankly, the fans inspired and motivated by what he says. The way he came in and told the board in no uncertain terms he would not work with a DoF, and the way he interrupted Ian Eyre shows that he is the man in charge, Hodgson was a fool and was bossed by the men above him and unltimately by the dressing room, I do not see that happening with Rodgers, which is a positive, I see that as sort of Fergie style, which only an utter twit would see as a bad thing.
Sorry about the massive essay waxing lyrical about our new manager but I think he really is the mix of some of the greatest club managers this country has seen. I hope the fans will support him and give him time to get things together. I believe that with the right 3-4 signings we could be pushing for top four this season. Hes had important lessons about management early in his career, at Watford and Reading, which I see as a positive, id rather him have tasted a bit of failure to understand how unnacceptable it feels as opposed to a manger who hasnt had that level of dismay and hasnt learnt that lesson.

Just to finish I believe the 3-4 signings that would get us towards the top 4 would be:
*Gylfi Siggurdsson
*Iker Muniain
*Roberto Soldado and/or Luuk De Jong

But who knows, he may pull something out of his sleave from somewhere and someone unheard of, like he did with Siggurdsson last season.

Anfield Andy

Well said andy, and for the rest of us lets gets behind our boys and when we go away lets scared the c2ap out of the opponents on their turf. YNWA

Has Claire Rourke of LFC TV joined the BBC News Channels Sport Department in full or is she just doing some lucratrive summer work?
I was quite suprised to see her last night on BBC News. Then I remember Matt critchley interviewed Tom Werner and Brendan Rodgers last week, job normally done by Claire.
I suppose good luck to her if she has left for BBC.

She was on the phone in on LFC tv when we appointed Brendan!!....

Now that BBC is based in Salford she can easily do both...freelancing...more money and less tax!

Good news. She is excellent on LFCTV.

Reports are claiming that Steve Clarke is set to land West Brom job.

After his time at Chelski and 18-months with KK, i'd say he's probably learned a fair bit and would be up for the challenge.

best of luck to him!

My prediction for the next West Brom manager after Clarke (if he gets it) is Rodolfo Borrell.

Fits the trend, sacked manager (Woy), resigned first team coach and then the reserve team coach.

Reports suggesting liverpool contemplating a move for Adam Johnson; myself i wouldnt mind him as long as it was a cheap price i.e. 10 million - i dont think he's worth the reported £16mil as he might just turn out another Downing.

Instead we should opt to sign Ryad Boudebouz or Ibrahim Affellay - better options in the same price bracket.

How can you say they would be better options then a player who plays in England is proven in England and the only reason he cant get into the city team is because there list of midfeilders is longer then the sexual offenders register. Johnson would be a better buy imo.

Quigz23

I'm not that convinced by Ryad Boudebouz...

Sigurdsson is almost definite to join LFC now.

We are being kept informed over Boudebouz.

Also, Jesus Navas is attracting interest from LFC, but apparently when we enquired, we discovered that he suffers quite badly from homesickness.

Jesus Navas has suffered from homesickness for a long time. If i remember rightly, when i first started usin this site, January 2010, there was comments about him and durin that same summer and there was lots of comments about the homesickness. Such a shame really cause he is a great player.

Nearly everyone on here hung up on signing "world class" or "big name" players.
The Liverpool sides of the 70's and 80's didn't set out to buy for example the best left back in the world or the best centre forward in the world. They bought the players that they thought would best fit into the team to do all the jobs required of that position. Sometimes they were expensive signings and sometimes they were much cheaper signings from the lower leagues. Reading the tiki-taka article shows that the roles in the playing system have been identified and therefore any new signings will be based on what they bring to the team, not the size of their ego or pricetag

Spot on mate !

That's a fair point, but football has changed a lot since the 70s and 80s. Back then it was rare to have any foreign player in an English team. Quality has improved with the influx of foreign players. So whilst I agree that signings like Sigurdsson and Diame shouldn't be written off because they're not the biggest names, I also think we're lacking a really special attacking player apart from Luis Suarez

Red Ollie

If Brendon's system works, we will just need someone clinical to put some of the chances away - a Rush or Fowler (ideally) or failing that a Chicharito or Solskjear type.

07 Jun 2012 11:14:38
The kind of changes I would like to see at Liverpool, to fit BR formation and style of play.

Name Age Goals Assists Approx value
Luciano Narsingh 21 12 26 3.5m

Lars Bender 23 5 5 12.5m

Christian Eriksen 20 9 22 11.5m

Adam Johnson 24 7 8 9.7m

Luuk De Jong 21 32 18 7m

Total spend 44.2m

(Values are taken off Transfermarkt).

To replace : Kuyt, Cole, Adam, Maxi & Aquilani.

K79 {Ed040's Note - boss stats, although the prices are a little bit low}

Price fix:

Narsingh: 8-10m
Bender: 12m
Eriksen - 25m
Johnson - 12m
De Jong - 13m

BthekingB

Sorry mate but Eriksen would be around the 25m mark and your other valuations are way off the mark too. 9.7m for Johnson is a nice round figure. Ha! Would love De Jong though, fingers crossed.

Luuk de jong's record is most impressive.

Steve Clarke to be appointed new WBA manager today. Kevin Keen will leave Liverpool to become his assistant. The pair both worked together at West Ham and Keen joined Liverpool under Dalglish due to the recommendation of him by Steve Clarke.

Rodgers will appoint his Swansea assistant Colin Pascoe as Liverpool's new assistant.

Clever boy!

Taken from EOTK

In Jamie Carragher's autobiography he states, and I'm paraphrasing, that the difference between Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard is that Gerrard was born a world class player, while Lampard made himself into one. As I painstakingly watched Lampard have a great game in this years' Champions League Final I thought about Carragher's assumption, and I came to the conclusion the only two words that matter here are world class.

I watched Lampard closely as he robotically passed out of pressure, kept the ball for his side, played the simple pass, and kept his tactical awareness. That night I watched another European Final, a one Liverpool fans know all too well, 2005 in Istanbul. Watching Gerrard in that game his presence is immense. He was everywhere he needed to be on the pitch that night, including at right back. But the moral of the story is whether you were born with an innate ability to be the difference for your team while lifting those around you and making them better, or you had to tirelessly work at it, the most important thing you do is win.

Enter Jordan Henderson; a player who came into LFC with massive expectations, and a hefty price tag as well. Since Henderson came to LFC he's heard naysayers, like a lot of players who don't produce 9s and 10s on a game in game out basis at the club. But this was different I felt it was a bit harsh. After all he's barely 21 years old; he was playing out of position early in the year (even right back at Blackburn), and he was adjusting to a new city with different standards then his home club Sunderland. These are not excuses, just facts. He never made excuses either; he just gave 100 percent every game he was penciled in the first eleven. Even Dirk Kuyt an LFC legend can be seen saying Jordan Henderson works the hardest in training in an LFCTV Online Video.

The irony here is that all year I've heard Liverpool fans either give Henderson a 10 or a 1, there have barely been any fair in-between, average grades. And to be honest, he's been a 7 all year long. Sure he seems to only be capable at times of playing square and back passes, but don't forget about a certain Lucas Leiva either. A man who was vilified at times by the LFC faithful, myself included. Lucas has turned himself into somewhat of a cult hero at LFC and for good reason, as his loss was felt all season.

I see the same future for Henderson, as he has no quit in him. He took his goal well in the last home game vs. CFC, and you could see what it meant to the young lad. So I ask other LFC supporters to not live in the moment with Henderson. There have been too many highs and lows in his critique all season. It's a process, as long as he continues to give everything to the team as he did all year long in terms of effort and graft he will be all right. What Steven Gerrard has you're born with; you either have it or you don't, but you would be lieing to yourself if you said you didn't want to see Jordan Henderson turn himself into a world class player like Lampard.

Good Point I felt.

G BOX

Good point well made, he works hard which more to say than most others did last season, he wasn't signed to play every game last season and only did cos lucas was out and gerrard was out for some part. But he played and mostly out of position too, he not a winger or a right back but played there without moaning about it and got on with it despite the criticism.

Ed's, stop posting all the troll comments! These creeps sadly get off by seeing that their posts have made it, and that they get a reaction. This site would be a lot better without the obvious trollers. {Ed002's Note - You don't even get to see a tiny fraction of the foul abuse we get.}

I totally agree with this actually. Ed002 is adamant suarez will leave when it is abundantly clear he is staying! It is wishful thinking...he/she/it doesnt want quality players at our club and will make up false rumours about our stars leaving to annoy the posters on here!

Ed002 never links us with a quality player...ever! I appreciate he/she/it needs to be realistic i.e cavani, sanchez, messi aint coming but to say we will listen to offers for suarez is beyond stupidity! what a dumb thing to say haha

{Ed002's Note - Whilst you no doubt wish to put the Eds down and question their credibility, it is interesting you remain an anonymous troll rather than signing your name and leaving an e-mail so everyone can applaud you as their saviour when you have driven all of the evil editors away. So to my question, I have admitted that I got Coates and Sylvain Marveaux wrong in the summer. I also got Suarez wrong last winter - and I have admitted those. Are you man enough to admit I got the following (and many more) correct? Coentrao, Alexis Sanchez, Young, Neymar, Ganso, Falcao, Canales, Dzsudzsak, Gomez, Taiwo, Tevez, Alves, Cavani, Goetze, Hulk, Ilicic, Iturbe, Klose, Lucas Paizon, Lucas Moura, Martinez, Muller, Higuain, Hummels, Neymar, Lavezzi, Pato, Sneijder, Wolfwinkel, Adebayor, Reus, Ribery, Aguero, Bastos, Costa, De Federico, Defour, Demba Ba, Eriksen, Falcao, Forlan, Hazard, Jose Angel Valdes, Lamela, Lucas Ocampos, Malouda, Nasri, Navas, Ninis, Higuain, Nolito, Oezil, Menez, Modric, Pastore, Pjanic, Robben, Subotic, Vargas, Vidal, Banega, Barrios, Benzema, Boudebouz, Cazorla, Hulk, Clichy, De Bruyne, Etoo, Godin, De Gea, Elia, Amoo, Hernandez and Jovetic. Perhaps we could go through and discuss each one individually? There should be some sort of test applied before internet connections are enabled.

And I notice you forgot to mention me saying Kenny Dalglish would leave.}

i believe players such as aqualani, cole and adam should be given another chance under BR, give them until january to see whether they can adapt to his playing style, we spent big amounts of money on aqualani and adam, and cole has been excellent in france.

Northern Red

Ok for Cole and Adam, as they want to play for us.

But Aquaman, no!

He had enough chances

How many times do people need to be told that Aquilani doesn't want to play for Liverpool?

Joe Cole return is the team going backwards- he is 31, on far more wages than his contribution will merit and we should get rid and invest the high wages in someone younger who will give us more.

Aqualani DOES NOT want to play for LFC, DOES NOT want to live in England. When will people get that through their thick skulls?

do you think lucas would get a game next season with sigurdsson coming in and joe cole possibly getting into the first team

Get a game? I'd say he's nailed on to get a game. He was our best player for the past season and a half, that he was fit.
Rigsby.

He will be the first name on the teamsheet. He is our most important player. he holds it all together. Without him we fall to pieces. Look at last year....
And joe cole would be in his position anyway. if he stays and players, he will be in zone 6, lucas plays in zone 4

Are you mad? Lucas is our best player...and will thrive under rodgers! expect him to play the deep midfielder role....ala busquets of Barcelona.

Killerpool

You ask if we think Lucas would get a game ahead of joe cole. Are you serious? Would last years LFC player of the year, with 20 caps for Brazil, get a game ahead of a chelsea fan who played 20 forgettable games for Liverpool?
Probably.

Red Steve

Of course he'll get a game! When he's fully fit he'll be one of the first name's on the team sheet! Look how we dipped after he got injured! He will be a main cog in the midfield!

Kenny Dalglish brought stability to a fallen giant. He restored passion when most fans were disilussioned and sad. He always has, and always will be a legend at this club and his actions during the tragedy of Hillsborough is a beacon to anyone who loves this wonderful club.

I was very sad to see him sacked the way he was, but we live in a new world.

Brendan Rodgers has shown already that he has been brought up the Liverpool way, idolising kenny as we all did as a player, but most importantly loving Kenny as a man. Kenny still has some role to play Im sure, and his name will be sung at Anfield for every game.

We are Liverpool supporters and it is not in our DNA to either forget or bad mouth any legend of this club.

I have had time to think about our new managers footballing philosophy, and he is all we could wish for.

OK so hes not proven at top level.......... neither was Shankly, Fagan, Paisley or Dalglish when they became managers.

I genuinely believe that FSG have made a superb choice in Brendan, he will carry on the work of our great managers and will ensure that their DNA continues throughout our club.

Good luck Brendan, the real supporters are all behind you. We will remember your words next season, and Anfield will become a cauldron again, feared by the worlds footballers.

Stick to your principles of the old Liverpool way....

Ps god knows how the phrase 'pass and move' became known as 'tika taka'....or whatever it is they call it nowadays!

Because Tika taka is different to "pass and move"
Tika taka is an over all team positioning from Keeper to striker

Roy

Tel, nothing Rodgers has done makes him a stand out candidate for such a job, but i will be more than happy fo you to say "i told you so" at the end of a fruitful season.

I know people will say hiring Rodgers is a bold statement but so would trying to get a really top manager and the wages to go with it. The same goes for buying players, Chelsea are buying £40 million footballers.Ed002 has already stated that they will spend heavily.Man City already have a massive squad and lets see who Man Utd buy. It will take more than a few words and "tika taka" football to compete with that. Its ok Henry saying we want top 4 with all the riches that go with it but you cant put the cart before the horse. Kuyt gone,Maxi going,Bellers dodgy knees, Aqua should be gone (good),Cole given another chance, Spearing will try but he is never going to be better than average. Rodgers will need to be a miracle worker to sort that out. Like ive said before, talk is cheap John! Please dont tell me that you thought £40 million net spend on players was going to do it.Kenny has started it and made us a better team but there are so many players still needing replaced.Rodgers will need help, because if angone things that while we buy £7 million Hoffenheim rejects while Chelsea are buying £40 million Hazzards and Hulks, then we are in big trouble. Splash the cash John! 5/6 quality players required to add to what weve got, not bargain basement. Rodgers is your choice, surely you should trust him. The responsability of top 4 lies at your feet, no one elses.

Swansea were applauded off the pitch after a goalless draw at Anfield last season but it is the memory of Chelsea's 2005 Champions League semi-final defeat, when as youth-team manager he watched Liverpool advance on Istanbul through a wall of noise, that enthuses Rodgers about the mammoth task ahead.

"The Chelsea players said they had never experienced support like that night," the Liverpool manager reflected.

"That was ultimately what won the game and that is what I want to do here. I want to use the incredible support to make coming to Anfield the longest 90 minutes of an opponent's life. That's the idea. I want to see this great attacking football with creativity and imagination, with relentless pressing of the ball. I know what it's like because I had a team like that at Swansea.

"When people came to Swansea it was probably the longest 90 minutes of their life. So after 10 minutes when they hadn't had a touch of the ball they are looking at the clock and seeing only 10 minutes had gone. It's a long afternoon."
{Ed016's Note - Love it}

Is there any truth init? Plz post
Would be great for liverpool {Ed016's Note - Just rumours as it stands mate. Nothing solid behind it.}

I feel so let down that this is only aa rumour, would be exactly what we need at exaacctly the right price

would be the type of astute signing i was expeccting this summer

Bring him, hes a natural goal scorer who will cost only 5 mills, remenber liverool could buy arda turan 4 that price, but instead the silly of kenny went for bobo downing, who cost tripple of the money, and now atletico won the europa league becouse of arda turan and ofcourse falcao, and i want benitez bak 4 that reason he would have bought turan instead downing - 12 mills. he would have had gago o meireles instead of charlie adam, and ofcourse, he woukd have bought soldado o llorente instead of carrol, qnd honda, alexis sanchez, afelay.

I've read some awful posts on this site over the years but that post above, think its the second response, is the most hilariously bad post I've ever read ha!

Yup, same here. And i also have a feeling that after a long time we have a stronge charecter like rodgers as our manager. I think it is very imp quality you need in your manager.

How will he perform, dont know but for suar he wont be a pu**y like hodgson or confused like kenny.

I think your expecting to much to soon

Are you the same guy that says that every season

Agree, but i do every season lol
Skurks

You've got to love the optimism but its shocking how little people know about football and just ignore the facts. Over 38 games last season we finished 8th and scored just 47 goals - 1 less than Fulham. What has happened to make you think we will have a better season? We have a manager that likes to play nice football - well great but I'd take results first, maybe Lucas will be there for a full season - thats it. If we are going to improve on 8th then we need to improve our home form and with our current team I am not confident we will do this. We need more goals in the side as Suarez will get 15 or so maybe, SG is on the slide (sob!) and the rest of our attacking players (except Bellamy) are inconsistant. We need attacking players that will not freeze playing for a big club and a manager that knows what his best team is.

Then I might be optmistic. BTW i would love to get 2 of Ba, Ben Arfa, Sturridge and Affelay. Then i might start to believe.

If we keep Henderson, Downing, Adam, Carroll then no, if we sell the carp that Dalglish bought then we can look forward to a footballing season...YNWA

Seems to me that more and more of us red fans are getting behind the manager and and looking forward instead of back toward rafa.

I have that feeling every season :)

BADGER

It's right to be positive, but at the same time, as long as people realise that this may well be a long-term project and we may not see the results totally improving until year 2-3, I still think there are a lot of players at LFC, who aren't of the callibre expected - having those types of players is fine if those play exceptionally almost every week, however a lot of players just seem to be there for the money.

I don't know why posters always slate Henderson. I think we have seen enough of the lad to say he is going to be very, very good for Liverpool. He will get there quicker if the boo-boys lay off him

Hi eds is there any truth to the burak yilmaz claim on the rumours page. I've surched the net and cant find any evidence to back it up. Just claims of the gunners and fulham Intrest. Also do you think Steve Clarke will mange a team now he's left us. I know he wanted to manage befor coming to us but couldn't pass up the opertunity to work with king kenny.

Eric the red {Ed016's Note - Hope Clarke does. Yeah I think its just a rumour mate. Nothing solid behind it.}

07 Jun 2012 01:22:05
Hi eds, with the state of the Euro, what do you think will happen to people overseas? Will players want transfers away? Will clubs prefer to sell now?

BthekingB {Ed016's Note - Great question. Could very well be. Some teams could be bracing themselves. Potentially if there was to be a massive economic collapse in Europe then football clubs could suffer. But the whole thing is complex. It's not going to be pretty. Football clubs are businesses and they can suffer just like any other business}

07 Jun 2012 01:03:31
Good luck BR. I hope you get the time you need to turn our club around. A lot of work to be done trimming down the squad and wage bill and to bring in players that suit his style. Won't happen over night but cream always rises to the top. Come on the pool.

07 Jun 2012 01:03:19
Brendan will hold on to Kenny's buys.
Adam might not fit BR's style completely but, with Lucas back, he could flourish.
Henderson is perfect for Bren's style if he get's a more central role than he's been given thus far.
Andy Carroll will be more mature and more confident. The people who say he won't suit BR's style are being short-sighted. He'll be a revelation next season and we'll struggle to hang on to him next Summer.
Stuart Downing will be coached into Brendan Rodgers' style of footie and next season we'll see the best of him!
Enrique will thrive under the new Spanish-style of football and will prove to be a bargain.
Brendan loves to bring the youngsters through and this is great...Sterling, Suso, Silva, Adorjan, Sama, Wisdom, Flanagan, Shelvey and, maybe, Pacheco will all benefit from the extended programme of Europa League football.
There's no doubt at all that we NEED classy additions and, furthermore, we need to rid our extensive wage-bill of footballers who aren't actually playing football for us.....Aurelio and Kuuyt have gone, Cole, Aquilani, Eccleston, Derby, etc. have either gone or will be going.
I fully expect G,Johnson, Skirtel, Agger, Reina and Maxi Rodriguez to be linked with moves away. Suarez staying is key to any success we'll have.......two-fingers to the media who'll link him with several rich clubs !
I know every year seems to be a so-called "transitional year" but, this year, it's so important that we remain patient. Brendan Rodgers has already stood firm against FSG twice by, firstly, knocking them back and, secondly, by dismissing the (questionable) Director of Football notion. Good on him!
Luis Van Gaal, a tempremental meglomaniac with past issues would not have worked at Liverpool. Brendan has brought in his own staff and he'll bring a level of dignity to the Club which even KK couldn't bring.
The most breath-taking performance I witnessed last year was Swansea urinating all over Arsenal ....genuinely. I wanted to be a Swansea fan for 90 minutes and I pray for forgiveness for my wicked thoughts.
I actually wanted their manager to be our manager..........and now that he is I'm far more confident than I ever was with our last two appointments!
Not on the strength of that one game...any proper fan appreciates the worth of someone like Brendan Rodgers at the helm. His aura is obvious. His mantra is "possesion-football" which doesn't differ too much from Kenny's plan but I can't see Kuuyt,Spearing and Carragher being a part of Brendan's plans and that suits me just fine!
Javi Martinez, Rasmus Elm and Keisuke Honda are the types of players who'll raise our profile.
Luuk De Jong, Munaian and Soldado would add firepower (De Jong and Carroll up front with Suarez behind wouldn't be disasterous!).
Replace Spearing/Adam with J.Martinez/Siguurdsen.....I'm not going to play FIFA Manager..........just let's get rid of the obvious and replace them with quality !
Good times ahead under Brendan Rodgers!....Get behind our new boss and respect his philosophy !!
ANFIELDPETE

I agree, i believe it's about Brendan Rodgers and staff doing better with what there is at the club presently.

I expect Rodgers will sign maybe 4 players for mainly modest fee's, to work with the quality we already possess. Someone like Boudebouz or Adam Johnson for example might be quite costly.

Unless someone like Suarez leaves, i can't imagine a big money (£20m+) signing to come in. We are down two players in Aurelio and Kuyt. Cole is said to be coming back according to the Lille manager.

BR' note pad.

It's a miracle, praise the Lord (or insert alternative deity of choice)!

Back from the dead!

Delighted to have you back, Sir.

p.s. I agree

Stewart downing does not need to be coached into rodgers's style, his pass completion stats (on the floor) in the important attacking 3rd of the pitch were at 82% one percent behind maxi's which was the highest at the club last year. his work rate levels which also show high levels have never been questioned by any club or manager either.
so many fans think he will be shipped out but the likelihood will be that he is already playing with brendan rodgers tika taka stats for lfc.
he also created a clear cut scoring opportunity every 225 mins, gylfi siggurdson averaged 244 mins at swansea. his opta stats just show that the strikers did not take any chances that downing created.
anfied index & EPL index stats have shown these figures over the last few weeks if any one would like to question them.

Good positive post, but with all the predictions was half expecting it to be signed Derek Acorah

Good post ,your optimism shines through mate .

Great post. The only thing wrong with it is no sign off name. Downing will be an integral part of BR squad next season.

People stop slating Dalglish - people have short memories for what he did for the club ..... And the football his team played was good and improving .... It was always pass and move ..... Nothing new in BR's philosophy ' the reds have been playing the same way'........

Long live the King.

Kat

I love the guy, i grew up with him as a key player for Liverpool, then a player manager, then icon, then iconic manager. Now back to icon. I'll never stop respecting the man. It was very sad to see a legend get sacked.

People will agree, disagree or agree to disagree, but i believe upon reflection Kenny Dalglish had to do better than he did. The Cup runs were exceptional and it only goes to show he's still got it, our league performances were not as bad as the results suggested, but the results were bad enough for FSG to make the decision a different direction was needed.

Had Kenny been given more time (only one season with a new look youthful Liverpool team) isn't enough, but the worst League record for 48 years (or something like this) it wasn't good enough.

I agree more respect should be paid to people, but i think Kenny gets plenty, especially from the people that matter to him the pro's, ex pro's, managers, respected pundits and most importantly in regards to football, the fans.

People say roberto martinez set up the philosophy at swansea and BR perfected it, well that suits me because KD set up the pass and move here

I have to agree Dalglish was the ideal short term solution, never a long term option and we should thank him for his time and effort. I cannot agree that we were a pass and move team we became a pass and pass team, with no movement off the ball. This resulted in us becoming very predictable and ultimately easy to stifle and as we saw last season easy to beat.

We slipped behind Everton and Newcastle last season

I think while lfc have had more possession than other teams last year and before i actually felt we gave the ball away all the time and when we did have ball we rarely seemed to go forward with it, and we also played quite a direct game
gareth

Who is on here slating Kenny? Why are you bringing it up?

Brendan is the manager now. Why not support him, rather than dredging up the past?

We beat the toffees 3 times last season so I agree we slipped behind them. since their last trophy, we've been to 2 CL finals and won 1. Runner up in the PL, 2 FA cup finals won 1, UEFA Cup winners, 3 Carling Cup finals 2 as winners. 28 games this century we are 16W,4L,8D. Slipping all right.

Clyne and Zaha of palace, Redmond and butland of Birmingham, mason from Cardiff, Rhodes off Huddersfield , powell off crewe are all being considered as Rogers plans for the future not just next season

Finglas Red

I'd be happy if we only signed Nick Powell from that list of players, what a talent he is and could potentially go on to be.

I read a while back on this website that Liverpool wanted to sign Max Clayton but it seemed to have quietened with the search for a manager.

What are the chances of Benayoun coming back. I hope he does he is amazing and would help us get back into the top 4!!
{Ed016's Note - There was interest last year but he chose Arsenal, he probably will not stay at Chelski}

Benayoun is way past his prim he is old and slow it will be a big step back and he prefers a mid table team becouse at is age he wants reguler first team football

I'm just spitballing here but heres my ideal transfer situation :- i would love to see alonso back but i cant see it happening unless he forced a move which lets face it is unlikely because hes winning stuff at madrid. who i do think we could get who can play centre mid, wing and up front is honda. i think if we wanted him, he'd be interested. not long ago he wanted outta russia and nobody has snapped him up. Second player who for me should be are number 1 target is munian. hes gonna be fantastic in a few years and up and coming players have excelled at liverpool, plus he could be sold in a few years for twice the price! finally, its between luuk de jong and soldado. probably de jong though because hes cheaper. not a bad thing, the guys a goal scoring machine. So, to summarize, honda for 15 mill, anymore than that then no. de jong between 12-16 mill, soldado for 20 mill. munian would cost 20 odd mill to i would think. i know there are cheaper options but personally these are my choices! but BR knows his stuff and i think he'l do well! eds, fellow reds, id appreciate your views. players you would splash out on? players we could attract? Rab

Why do people keep adding their transfer wishlists based on being able to re-sell for a profit later on?! With respect, we are not Southampton, Wolves, West Brom, Villa, Wigan, Bolton, etc, etc...

We are Liverpool. Once we are back in the Champs League and winning again, why would we sell our best players and why would they want to leave? Strange.

Who cares about profit? We are LFC fans, not fans of good business!

Red G

But our owners are fans of that very thing. They have already stated that their philosophy will be based on getting players young, making them better, then selling them on for a handsome profit, similar to what ajax do. If we can emulate the success in the EPL that ajax have had in their domestic league I will be more than happy.

Red4Ever

It was something that FSG highlighted in their transfer policies last year mate. They wanted to buy young with potential, so if they opted to sell in a few years, or the player wished to leave, they could sell for a profit. so reel yourself back in son and chill out. its a rumour/banter page in which people share views. These happen to be mine. Rab

Anyone else think Owen would be a good move on a free? We need a poacher and despite everything he is a legend.
RodgersRedArmy {Ed016's Note - Been discussed. Majority will not like this idea. He isn't a real footballer mate. Hasn't been for 5 years.

Owen - The wannabe horse whisperer, no thanks... how you leave a club is very important, and how he left Liverpool was not good.

Poacher? He'd struggle to poach an egg these days. RED LENIN

He's more interested in horses. He's nowhere near the player he used to be either.

I see RED LENIN has become a tad less philosopical today (drying out?)

Is sigurdsson a liverpool player tho Eds? He couldn't get into the hoffenheim team? :S

Aquilani couldn't get into the Liverpool team last year but look how quality he is. Some people just dont fit at some clubs.

And Souness couldn't get a game for tottenham before moving to middlesboro to get game time before we bought him, and he didnt do too bad did he? He is a young developing player, he will improve as he goes along, he has already shown that the prem league is suited to him and he will just keep getting better.

Hi Eds,
With BR taking control do you see Andy Carroll being part of his passing football. With strikers like Saldado and De Jong being linked do you see him having a future? and would clubs be interested? Great site!
Lfc-Bav {Ed016's Note - He has a future.}

Towards the end of the season Carroll improved dramatically. One of the more noticeable improvemnts was the fact that he started to pass and move and also tackle and do diagonal runs into space. Like Ed16 says, he has a future and I think it's a very bright one. RED LENIN

Hey eds, I don't suppose you'll know, but would you expect Conor Coady to get a chance (albeit bit part) in the 1st team this coming season? I really think he will be quality.. thanks in advance for any comment {Ed016's Note - Can't predict the future. It all depends on when the club decides he is ready for that massive step. Hopefully he has a really good season}

Evening Eds, just a quick one for Macca, you said before that your information was from three different sources, if so is there any chance you could e-mail me as i have written to the club on three occasion to try to sort something out for my disabled teenage son, but you know what its like , no-one ever replies, or do you have an e-mail address i can email you, this is genuine by the way, thanks kevin

{Ed016's Note - {Ed016's Note - Hi Kevin. It's not often that Macca replies just due to not being on the site that much. Hopefully he sees this. He still might be reluctant to give out personal info.

But until then I can give you the best info I can find. I am currently taking Disability Studies at University. My dream is to work for the club and specifically the LDSA (Liverpool Disabled Supporters Association.) Anyway here is some more contact info on the official site. Here it is

Hi Macca or Eds, I am all for giving the new manager all the support i can but i cant help getting the feeling that he is only going to attract mediocre or average players.can any of you fellow supporters really see BR pulling of a couple of world class signings ? i would love to think yes but i have the feeling we may all be dissappointed. thanks eds great sight.
kevin {Ed016's Note - I don't think so. Liverpool is still a massive club. We just can't afford to match Chelsea and City on wages so ofcourse it seems the modern day player goes to the highest bidder. Can't always blame the players mainly agents. I think you will be satisfied with the summer once it is over. I think people have this idea that the owners are tight fisted after not spending in Jan. But they haven't been shy in the window.}

From my understanding, Brendan Rodgers is tasked with improving Liverpool's results.

Kenny Dalglish was sacked because the league results were the laughing stock. I love the man, 99% of us do, i'm sure, but in the league (for one reason or another) the results were shockingly bad and it's a results business managers are in.

Rodgers is expected to do not only better in the league, but considerably better and not by buying expensive players, but by building up from within and creating successful players, much like he has done at Swansea.

Whilst i fully expect that Rodgers will sign 4 or 5 players. Unless Suarez is sold, which i have huge problems with, not only from an ethical view point but a moral stand point; as it's totally inconsistent after Suarez was allowed to further participate in the team.) Which i have shared.

I doubt Liverpool will sign a £20+ million striker, as we have two. Which isn't necessarily a negative.

FSG obviously believe the squad is under performing and i imagine want to see drastic improvements from the current squad, with some lower profile additions.

I think we should aim for the following players as they would make a difference to the team and would hardly have to break the bank.

Milan Badelj, Central Midfielder playing for Dinamo Zagreb.
Sime Vrasajko, Attacking right wingback playing for Dinamo Zagreb.
I Affelay, especailly if we can get him for £6-£8m.
Esteban Granero from Real Madrid
L De Jong, he has been mentioned enough so wont go into him.
Lisandro Lopez from Marseille. I know he is 29 but great back up striker for Suarez and Caroll.

We can then sell, Cole, Aquilani, Downing, Adam as never rated him especailly after Fergie said his left foot was worth £10m alone, Johnson - as he is on high wages and Vrasajko can do very well in this position, plus we have Martin Kelly.

It's true what they say this page does give me a laugh! your targets are Lopez, granero and affelay who can't play starting 11 football
No wander you'll finish in the bottom half

I thought Lopez was at Lyon...

Lopez plays for lyon.

Pacheco, cole and maxi would all flourish in my opinion under rodgers and would fit nicley with his game style...
They will all look like new signings if they stay i believe..
What do uthink eds? Any chance they stay with us u reckon?

Time to get real about the lad Pacheco. He is not Liverpool class. He couldnt get into the Vallodolid team (second tier Spanish) on a regular basis last year. Apart from a couple of flashes in the reserves, I've seen nothing to suggest he could cut it in the PL, let alone be an outstanding LFC player.

Time to sell and move on in my opinion and concentrate on Suso and Sterling.
