Anyone have any concrete proof that GlenJo is sitting on 120k a week?

I don't want links to articles in the Daily Mail etc.

I'd get rid of him at that wage. disgusting!

As far as I'm aware he's on 90k p/week. Not as much but it's still a lot. Plus he has his "must play if fit" clause in his contract which leaves the likes of Kelly and Flanagan a tougher task of getting in the team when they need game time. I'd understand it if he were sold but I also would understand if he stayed - he is a proven international of course and considering what many other internationals are on at other top clubs, 90k p/week isn't actually that much...

It's certainly an interesting situation...

Reid the Red

I ready a few years ago that he was on about 90k/w. Don't know if that has gone up over the past few years.

just like to say good luck to Mauricio Pellegrino, maybe a future manager to look out for

wolves fan here i come in peace i saw a rumour a while back that ur interested in fletcher just wondering how much u think he's worth?

He is probably worth 8-12 million as he is Scottish but if he was english we must start at 16 million , then there is the LFC premium so 22 million should cover it

About 7mil how much do you think he is worth?

I would say about 6 million mate i also think he is a good player who would be worth keeping hold of foyer wolves because i think he would score alot in the championship

Zero .

I think he is a great player personnally, and deserves to be a higherer team (no offence i have always liked wolves there fans there team and M.Mcarthy. sad to see em go down like that) but he has potential. and if we werent in the turmoil were in now. where we need another top notch striker then id say im all for it. same as if we were getting rid of carroll id say the same thing. but i rate him at 8 mil now. maybe 10. i would not go higher then 12 for sure though. JLFC (good shout by the way wolves fan) {Ed005's Note -

Sorry, but for me he simply isn't good enough...

Richards

Thanks for replys would love to keep him but i dont think soo

Just a quick question on the new kit. 1) will all 3 kits be revealed friday or just 1? 2) would we be able to wear it against swansea? Thanks

Cant wear new kit till Addidas contract run's out buddy!!

It's just the home kit that's being revealed this Frdiay mate, the LFC twitter confirmed.

Apparently, if you purchase any from the LFC website you will also get a 'exclusive club t-shirt' (I have no idea what that is exactly but hey lol)

I wonder if Sports Direct are going to be doing any good deals on football strips this summer aswell

Scott Dann is a championship player. why were people wanting us to sign him?

1 reason an 1 reason only he's scouse. totally agree with your opinion on him.

I like him as a player, and i like him as a person. i would not sign him though.

Just a quick question for the eds, I notise a lot of our so called targets for the summer, dejong, Ramirez, belhanda exc... Are also linked and in some cases it seems more favourably to the likes of Napoli, Roma and lazio.

Considering it is highly unlikely now any of these teams will have champs league football, I fail to see how they will be able to challenge us for these players, we are a much bigger club both in size, stature and financially. So apart from the weather I fail to see how we could be turned down for these clubs. Unless I am mistaken?

Never underestimate the weight the name Liverpool football club holds across continental Europe, even if has been heavily tarnished within these isles. {Ed002's Note - So they will all be joining Liverpool then.}

Well no, we might not want to sign any of them, it's all rumours of course, but if we did go for these players and teams like Napoli are the competition then I fancy our chances lol

I think it's become blatantly obvious that we have overestimated our importance now.The last 3 years have diminished our reputation possibly beyond repair. Players have plenty pf other clubs to choose from. Why would a young gun move to us?

Okay We have History on our side Blah Blah blah but what you have to ask is not Were we better then these teams because they failed to make CL but which team is likely to make CL , seriously out of us ,Napoli , roma and Lazio we are the furthest away.

One of the eds said earlier today to a post of mine and said that lfc have history, ambition and the best fans in the world to offer any new players we are looking at. Now that sounds great but none of these have won us the title in 20 years, have they? {Ed005's Note - And what's your point? I don't quite get it.}

Lots of teams havent won the title in the last 20 years. Man Utd did go 26 years without winning the title. Chelsea went over 50 years. These things happen to clubs sometimes. Liverpool is still a huge huge football club.

07 May 2012 22:11:29
If you stick with Dalglish and his desire for average British players.
You are destined to be a mid-table team.
Forget about lists of players. It is a pointless exercise.
You need to be thinking about - Loew, Van Gaal, Benitez, Pelligrini, Laudrup etc.
FSG,please take note and stop listening to no marks.

07 May 2012 22:06:08
What about Paul Robinson ? He surely is too good for Championship . Dave In Ireland

Yeah too good for Championship but not good enough for Liverpool!

He is an awful goalkeeper, makes some serious goofs... not commanding enough either.

We should make a move for james mccarty everytime ive seen him this season hes bossed the mid certainly better than adam spearing and hendo.Gutted he wont make the irish euro squad could really have do with him.

Wigan want an absurd amount of money for him.

Evening eds fellow reds , take Paul robbinson as back up.cheers psv

If you had to pick one from each section who would you pick.

De Jong. Twente.
R. Soldado Valencia.
F. Lorente. Bilbao.
D. Texiera. Gronigen.
Van wolfswinkle. Sporting.

Muniain. Bilbao.
A.johnson. City.
I. Affelay. Barca.
K. Honda. CSKA.
G. Rameriez. Bologna.

S. Defour Benfica.
E. Banega Valencia.
R. Elm. AZ Alkmaar.
N. De Jong. City.

For me I'd have to go with Soldado, Munain (big if I know) or if not Affelay and as CM Defour.

I think these three would be excellent additions to the squad and in the right areas.

Jonesred

Someones been playin fifa too much

Soldado/Llorente, Munain and Banega

De Jong, Ramirez, Banega please...

Soldado, Affelay, Banega

Its complicated cause there's a lot on that list, but if i had to choose, i would go

De Jong/Soldado
A.Johnson/K.Honda
S.Defour/R.Elm

Carb

To the comment about Fifa what are you talking about? It was a conversation starter about players linked with us.

macca! is torres seeking a move elsewhere ?or is he happy at chelsea

Eds, what are the chances of us signing the Blackburn chicken? I think he would be a great partner for the Anfield cat...

07 May 2012 21:52:41
I love coming on this site and i love lfc but there is one thing that drives me nuts I'm fed up with hearing we want Torres back Torres this Torres that get a grip the guy never had Liverpool running through his veins let's get behind the likes of king kenny who would sell his grandmas Zimmer frame for the club long live the king

Is this the same King Kenny that's wasted £80mill

'' sell his grandmas Zimmer frame for the club long live the king ''

Lol...The guy who lives across the road from me... reckons he would die for his beloved LFC...

However he knows that given the opportunity of managing them...he would turn it down... on the grounds that he is no where near competent ...

If KD loved LFC half as much... he would stop living off of his rep. and move over well to the rear and let a better man takeover... you lot know it ...you just aint got the pragmatism needed for the task in hand...

Still in love with this site :)

Blue247

Ps...Principles and sentimentality can be a right bloody hindrance don't you think ?

Hate to say it but the toffee guy is right. Sentiments n loyalty have held our club back.

07 May 2012 21:47:55
ED's do you think Kenny will make changes for tomorrow's game? or will he pick the strongest line up we have? {Ed002's Note - No idea.}

07 May 2012 21:45:57
Kenny is all for Liverpool what makes people think that any other manager can do any better the only good managers out there that is free is pep guardiola or raffa
guardiola is taking a year out of football and raffa is unlikely to return in my eyes
Kenny has made a few bad decisions on selecting team but every manager dose now and than give him next season to see what he can do with a few new players and including 1 or 2 of he young players he picked up a poor team off roy hodgson witch he picked up off raffa that he had in his last season so a lot of rebuilding was needed witch carnt be done over night

Am i correct in thinking that david hoilett is out of contract in the summer?
if he is i think he would be a good person to have in the squad. Although i would not spend much money on him i do think that he is a player that seems to attract the opposition players and in turn makes room for his peers to exploit. Space that i personally think an in form enrique could definitely exploit.
Worth a go?

Tyrone

I like Hoilett Throne mate especially if won't cost us nothing. But signing him could limit Sterlings progression, into the 1st team squad. I'd rather see Sterling play for us next season instead of Hoilett.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

He is the type of signing most fans would turn their nose up to, probably because he hasn't got some la liga name. he then would be a shrewd acquisition for another team wiser than us, score more goals than our strikers with heavy price tags, and then wonder why we didn't sign him?

In a more offensive squad (not that Blackburn take a lot of beating) he would score lots of goals. He would be a smart buy, we can't afford (in more ways than one) to keep splashing out on players. he would do a good job for us, well worth a punt

mr controversy

Don't know were 'Throne' came from Tyrone mate. My spell checking on this phone ain't the g8est. lol

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

I personally just don't rate him at all.

I don't play FM or Fifa but spend quite a bit of time playing Lego Subutteo with my son and there is a right midfielder on the white team that has an incredible shot + has scored loads. His movement off the ball isn't great tho. Are you aware of any interest from us? Could be a good option on a free?

07 May 2012 21:30:09
eds like arsenal are we close to signing anyone?

also do you think we might sign or agree to sign a player before the euro's? {Ed002's Note - See previous answers.}

07 May 2012 21:11:17
Im Irish and an LFC fan.
I have long watched James McCarthys carreer and hoped we would one day sign the lad. I was hoping to see him play for Ireland this summer and establish himself as a key player for his country.

But my prayers are with him and his family and this difficult time, Hope his father wins his fight.

YNWA James

Good shout James, he looks a real talent

Rafa won't be coming back. If you have seen the news, Rafa has shaved off his goatee and got himself a job as president of France.

That's the end of me on this site then.

Rafa's Purple Goatie

07 May 2012 20:48:25
why are you guys stuck in the past? rafa? nando? xabi? come on guys, never gonna happen. and do you even remember what that would actually mean?

remember rafa wont sub before 60 minutes, no matter what(except istanbul). try hard, go on remember what it was actually like. yeah weve signed some s**te, but rafa signed more s**te than anyone. except that one season, we were still inconsistent as hell under benitez. your rose tinted glasses wouldnt last long if he returned.

this makes it sound like i hate him, i dont, i actually really like him, but you guys get me so wound up. rafa was NOT all that, 90% of you screaming for him to come back were the ones screaming for his sacking, and there were loads agreeing. rafa came, rafa went. move on.

I'm 110% sure if Rafa Benitez had the money Kenny has wasted we would be league champions by now.
When Rafa spend £60m on Xabi, Pepe, Nando, Mascherano
Kenny spent £60 on Downing, Hendo, Adam, Enrique, coates now I know who I want as my manager.

Are the players Kenny wanted? or who DC recommended.

Lee73

People are stuck in the past because in the present we are going down hill rather then up rafa with the finances is the way to go in my opinion he loves the club and really wants to come back

Read Epic Swindle. It'll enlighten you on what Rafa had to deal with and still won the things that he did.

BthekingB

How about the £17m he spent on Glen Johnson, the £20m he spent on Robbie Keane, £17m on Aquilani, Babel £12m, £7m on Dossena, £6m Pennant, £6m Morientes, Josemi etc etc.

JRG

Not beening funny mate but if pepe was doing his job right we would have more points .
REDWAZ

Where in the league were we when Rafa bought those players. I like the guy too, but we weren't in any European competition when Kenny spent this money, so maybe he had no real choice.

Keith

Aqua,Dossena,Keane,Morientes! Close enough to £60 million? Guess what? Rafa signed these player.

The Irish Rover

I agree REDWAZ mate. I've never seen Pepe or any keeper getting beat so much at his near post, than he has this season. This is defo Pepe's worse season for us since he arrived.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Rafa back really and just incase you did not notice Rafa spent alot more money on bad players then good players , so why would you think he would buy better players then KK.Judge kK signings in 2-3 years as the majority of Rafa players floped

Rafa spent a lot of money aswell , how much did he spend on johnson and aquaman , wake up rafa wanted all the money guess what he had to do the same as all the other managers who do not have billionaires for owners , its called money management and the wages he gave to the free signings does not get taken into account ,

So called fans slating gerrard! Show some respect the lads carried us for so long, also carra and kenny the abuse is truly nauseating! Ever heard of the Liverpool way? Even at 2-0 down on sat I still believed, and it wasn't far off. Now if we had won and gerrard scored the winner or Jamie cleared off the line we wouldn't hear the end of it. Keep kenny, gerrard's still got it carras a rock ect. Trouble is half of you aren't real fans you just jump on every bandwagon possible. Where are you when things get tough? We don't want your support, or need it if all you do is get on the lads back. Supporters try actually supporting!

It really is ridiculous that no-one is allowed to say anything that calls into question the (current) ability of Gerrard,Carragher and Dalglish. Liverpool FC is more important than any of those three. Yes they have been good/great servants of the club but some of you lot act like soppy schoolgirls swooning over pop stars.

When it is time to move on, it is time to move on! That doesn't mean anyone has forgotten what players and managers have done for the club but it does mean that their time has 'passed' (Carragher and Dalglish) and is 'passing' (Gerrard). That is NOT blasphemy it is LIFE !

Puzzled

***** POST OF THE YEAR SO FAR

Puzzled - Why?

Do you like to turn on those who have done their best for your club or maybe its not your club?

You are not puzzled more like troubled!

The goat of Mendes

Yes and what has happened has happened. But we need to move on in a positive way. These 3 are idols and show constantly what Liverpool fc means to them. We have what we have. I personally think should be given till January. This season was all about starting again and no one seems to notice. Sure kenny has made some bad signings but look at rafa. Out of how many signings did he get right? Out of kennys few signings, Carroll,Suarez and Enrique (first half of the season) Hendo potential is there you can see signs but at cm. also kenny brought some youth through and gave some a chance. I'd rather kenny over rafa any day. It's not critism from fans it's abuse...... I'm just saying try and get behind the team than constantly looking to blame and bring out the negatives.

For 135k a week I expect a bit more from Gerrard than Hollywood passes and petulance when a teammate loses the ball etc

Why not lay blame were it is deserved , the players bought are not good enough its that simple , we all had our hopes that we could challange then we seen them play and our hopes were dashed , if kenny is going to buy brithish then go for the top talent , not the mediocre players , some fans on here are wanting hoilett or another blackburn player , dont you know they have been relegated , man city should be the place to pick up players , a.johnson for one

LFC as an institution may be bigger than these three, but the fact is these three have been a huge part of the reason why LFC is what it is. For that reason, they deserve all the respect we can offer. Fairweather supporters rile me, when you really support, you see players like Jay Spearing nullify Yaya Toure (Ala City last season) and play far above expectations. Constructive criticism is definitely healthy, but sometimes, just sometimes we also have to look at ourselves because we are underestimated as supporters. Respect, support, offer ideas but don't just sit and jump on a bandwagon and scapegoat when you have a part to play
NextGenRed

What appears wrong is a compendium staring from the inability or reluctance to shoot from distance. Gerrard once had it, and it now possibly through injury it now appears lost. Drogba stated his intentions and had a go early in the cup match from 35 yards. So does Dempsey and Riise also had it whereas Enrique does not.
Alongside that both Enrique and Downing continually cut in making the pitch narrower and rarely overlap. Whatever players we have, the basics need to be done and they are not. To much English Alf Ramsey style play ie slow build up and square passes in our own half that risks losing the ball in dangerous positions. Lets get the basics right and we won't need to spend a fortune.

Kolp, Rafa, or Mouriho ?

Is that supposed to be Klopp?

Anyway Rafa

Klopp. Without a doubt.

No rafa return, definitely not mourinho, no. So it's got to be kolp, or klopp, or whatever he's going by these days.

Klopp would be interesting although I don't understand why he would join us...

07 May 2012 20:29:28
really saturdays loss showed how you again you cant replace world class players like Alonso and Masch with the likes of Spearing and Henderson also think Reina has had his worst season since he joined , Dalglish is a legend no doubt about it but his tactics and team selections are outdated and baffling , Liverpool are quickly on the decline and not contending for the title or even being in the champions league is not acceptable ..new manager , new players , new philosophy before the damage is inrepairable

It is possible. We replaced Masc with Lucas!

Rafa or Torres are not coming back! Get over it!

07 May 2012 20:24:16
Hi Eds. Even with financially realistic targets, LFC always seem to miss out on them because we are so slow in following up interest and other teams step in. Keisuke Honda is a good example. If we get a new DOF (and it is not KD), is this likely to improve? Who is actually responsible for these negotiations? {Ed002's Note - Liverpool have bought plenty of players over the past 18 months so I don't see "slow" being the issue. Lack of interest seems to be more likely.}

07 May 2012 20:19:27
With texiki beginistain looking favourite for the DOF role, would Frank rijkaard be a good shout? He's only 49. Texiki gave him the Barcelona job and worked together for 8 years.

mc carthy from wigan would be a gr8 buy, wigan playing some gr8 stuff,

Very good player, one of the edds really rates him 2

07 May 2012 20:04:09
Glad Macca just said that about Torres. Let's face it, we don't need to go backwards and for the money he would still cost and his age, well it's just not worth it.

Now personally I think we shouldn't be looking for our normal summer of 6 or 7 players, we should just aim for a couple of top quality signings (attacking midfielder/ winger and a Striker) I do appreciate its not that easy to attract the world class players everyone has on their wish list but we are Liverpool football club and still have massive appeal

I personally believe we do have a good squad and with a couple more match winners we are back to being a top 4 team. I'm not one for wish lists myself, I Will support the 11 red men on that pitch.

The football we have been playing this war has at times has been very good and with a little luck or a better finisher, well we would have more points than we have!

Anway, that's my thoughts. Thanks very much to all the Eds on here and Macca for the info you provide.

07 May 2012 19:41:05
Just a little thought for people , pre the cowboy year's , what that bad did rafa do for people to be so disrespectful .

From the end of the season when Milan beat us in athens all the money we had to spend was from moore's era not the american's , 50 something million , Torres , Lucas , babel , a few other's can't remember them , but decent player's to get in .

Point being I think people forget rafa built are best team since the nintie's if them cowboy's wer'nt in charge I have no doubt rafa would still be at Liverpool and we would of built on the 09 side , even though xavi left with abit of investment we could of bought good quality , people say well aquallini was bought , I think were stil paying for him now , if we had proper owners we would of broke the bank to replace that cog in a fine team , and who know's Lucas might just be that cog for next season's team 5 yer's after rafa bought him .

I would give kenny another year given the chance's we have created , and the whole lot of other daft stuff that has gone on , but if kenny where to be replaced rafa would be my choice .

I know people will say we won champion's league with the previous manager's team but did we . I can remember a certain luis Garcia all most getting us there on his own with the goal's against Leverkusen 2 or 3 important goal's at important time's ( first goal in the away leg ) . Absolute Worldy juve at home ended up being the difference over two leg's . Winner semi's against that Chelsea , I know stevie dragged us threw in the end but would of we been there with out Garcia in our team I think not.

Next season fa cup say no more how devasted we are now that we lost on Saturday just show's how rafa done to win it for us.

Next season campion league final , just think how lucky we were , we were number 1 yeah number 1 rated in Europe even after we lost in athens .

Season after that not so good but still Europe qualification .

Next season finished second in league , with a team that had a garrard playing in his position at the time with torres , mashcerano , alonso , arbeloa , lucas , benayoun , reira , we had a great first eleven all we needed was investment an them 2 tit's from America could'nt come up with it so remember if kenny went and I hope he doesn't he need's another year , but if it were to be I dont think it would take rafa to much time to get us back in champion's league and build another decent team capable of challenging for the league not just being in the top 4 .

Rafas 1st season: won champions league + carling cup final. Rafas 2nd season: won fa cup + 4th place finish. Rafas 3rd season: another champions league final + 3rd place finish and ranked number 1 team in europe. Rafas 4th season: 4th in league + champions league semi final. Rafas 5th season: 2nd place finish in prem.86 points highest points total for lfc in prem unlucky not to win league 4 points short of utd. + champs league quater final. plus beating utd 4-1 at old trafford an beating real madrid 4-0 at anfield. Rafas 6th and final season : 7th in league uefa cup semi final . Poor season but we lost alonso( granted rafas fault) but he was dealing with the cowboys the club was crippled with debt and he became distracted by the off field antics, gerrard was injured most of the season an we got knocked out of champs league at group stages, a 1st in rafas riegn. Plus rafa was givin no money to spend and was sold a dud in the shape of aquilani ! Now we can onli dream of being in the champions league never mind making finals . He attracted top players to the club: torres alonso reina mascherano aswel finding talent of which are the better players in are squad today: skrtel agger lucas etc. Apart from a few poor signings an a poor season at the end (largly because of off field issues caused by the dallas cowboys) what did rafa do wrong? Under rafa we beat all the great teams ( barca in 07 mourinhos chelsea twice inter ac milan real madrid arsenal).all in great european nights . Had rafa have been givin the money kennys had to spend u can guarantee wed be in the top 4 nw an looking forward to another great champions league season next year! He loves the club he's available he wants to come back ! In rafa we trust! Dennis 89

Good post Dennis89, plus Rafa bought Kenny back into the frame.

Lee73

While above is all pretty true, it is far from complete. How many other clubs were Liverpool really competing for a top 4 place with? Generally only 3 others with the occasional Everton, who did top us one year. On this basis, I really dont rate getting into the top 4 as any great achievement. Outside of half a season, when we were unbelievable, I wasnt a fan of Rafa's football at all. I am not saying Kenny is or isnt the man, I am just saying that I dont see Rafa as the answer.

guna watch james mc carthy tnite, been impressed with him, could we maybe do a deal with henderson edd? as in sweeten a deal with a season long loan n cash for him, it did the lad at utd no harm going there on loan last season , i think hes a far better player than henderson right now,

I am sure Kenny will be onto that like a dear on a lion

Why wouldnt he be , ?? wigan are playing the best stuff in the prem last 10 games n hes been outstanding, guarentee you there are clubs all over him, just cos he not got a name like hazard r sneider etc , FAR better than henderson n can pass a ball 4ward

We have tried to get McCarthy at least 3 times in the past, there comes a time to move onto the next player.

Are these players available, affely, reus, doumbia, all would be great signings and could probably get them all for about £40million. {Ed002's Note - Reus has agreed a move already - to Dortmund.}

After hearing so called Ed002's responses I have very bad feeling that its gonna be one very long & disappointing summer. Of course Ed002's words are not Gospel. But still I have respect for what Ed002 words so it concerns me very much.

-Suarez Leaving [Ed002 thinks he is defo leaving and we are likely to be looking for buyers...Believe me we are not gonna get a suitable replacement for him, Keegan, Dalglish, Rush, Fowler, Owen might have left but at that time they left the club we are in a far better position to get a suitable replacement, see Torres has left have we really replaced him.. of course not.. Suarez is a gem in our hands we have to build our team around him, of course the Evra saga was disappointing but lets leave it behind its all over, KD has to take some blame on it]

-The Managers position [ Ed002 thinks KD will leave but that means more money needed to spend on compensation and appointing anew manager, cost of changing backroom staff, Me too wants kD to step down but I hope the cost we have to bearer in appointing a new manager doesnot eat away from our transfer budget]

-Summer signings [ ED002 expects most of the signings to be made after the Euro's, well thats once again gotta make life difficult for our transfer dealings, prices would hike up, bigger clubs would get aware & interested in our targets, thus leave us to scrap for left overs,...... well Arsenal, Chelsea has already started buying young talent form abroad and some of them they are getting are relatively cheap, With City, UTD expected to be up their once gain + reinforced Arsenal & Chelsea with pressure expected from Spurs & now Newcastle could we really snatch top4 next season, I doubt it ]

-Transfer Budget [ ED002 thinks theres not a fixed budget but still thinks we won't spend much, based on who leaves... with out spending 45/60M on new players irrespective of who leave I doubt we would get quality players wrt to today's inflated prices]

The bottom line or big picture would be:
As ed002 said yeah we will be among in the mix for top 4 but we won't reach top 4.

Please do not assume I am being too negative but this is what I understand & predict from as far as ED002's knowledge is concerned.

Cheers ED002. appreciate your work... keep on bringing such good news to us..

Bosco {Ed002's Note - The reasonj for most of the signings not happening until teh Euros are over is that the transfer window does not open until July 1 for most of Europe.}

Hi, just wondering what your take on FSG is? Good owners or bad owners? Personally, I don't think they're as good as they're made out to be (in terms of the 'money' they have). I remember Tom Werner saying "we have the resources to compete with anybody in football", but if that's the case then why are we never after the cream of the crop players (Hazard, Mata etc) and why are we always looking at young players with low wages? The Eds also talk about how some players are 'out of our price range', further contradicting Mr. Werner. I just wish FSG would stop trying to fool the fans into thinking they're mega-rich. What do you think?

We can't convince people who prefer champions league football can we?

BthekingB

You are now starting to wake up!

FSG came in and in there 1st transfer window bought: saurez 24mil approx
Carroll 35mil.

In there 2nd window bought: downing 20mil
Henderson 16mil
Adam 6mil
Enrique 6mil
Coates 7mil

A couple of others no doubt.
But as you can see they have gave us a little cash to spend.

LAVERS

114 Million?,shocking!

07 May 2012 19:11:02
Tommrow is such a good chance for liverpool to play the youngest the likes of sterling etc so we all get a good look at them and maybe not spend the millions give the kids ago can't be any worse than Henderson or spearing

No. We can't start all of the kids against the likes of Chelsea. Obviously we should chuck one or two in [I'd like to see Sterling start and Coady come off from the bench] but we can't throw in 5 or 6 of the kids because if we lose against Chelsea by a big margin then it will harm their confidence and we will most likely get fined.

BthekingB

Additionally, we have a good chance of catching Fulham and Everton should we beat Chelsea. While only minor ground, I would take it. Cameos only for me with the exception of Raheem.

JW Henry has signed up to the austerity treaty

Liverpool will continue to cut player salary costs next season and Johnson, Maxi, Carra & Kuyt will go

To be replaced by white pack workers who'll have no end product in taste tests much like the current crew

BTW did anyone notice that Agger never won a challenge with Drogba, now if Carra had played at least Drogba would have known Carra was on the pitch. Agger is too weak for big powerful men like drogba and many other powerful chelsea players, spearing likewise.

To all the Gerrard haters, yes, Gerrard is not the player he was six years ago but really can any of those who are being touted as his replacement play like the Gerrard of 6 years ago and carry the team?

Or will Gerrards replacement play even worse then Gerrard plays at the moment (according to some Gerrard is finished and not fit for the shirt) really you are expecting too much from Gerrard not even Messi could carry the tripe Gerrard has around him at the moment.

So Gerrard is blamed and for what the poor players Kenny & DC bought last year, I am sure Gerrard did not want the tripe that was bought and I am sure he winced when the players that came were announced.

The club is in crisis there is no strength in deepth in many positions we cannot even cope with the injury to Lucas who is not the world's best DM despite what some may think.

As for Kelly, Flanagan and henderson they are all pretty useless. Shelvey may become good in time but do we have time it seems there's very few here who wish to grant KK time?

The goat of Mendes

You are wrong on so many points that you try to make that it#'s not worthy of a proper responce.

KT!

Agger didn't win anything against Drogba? Who does? He is one of the best strikers in the league for winning an ariel ball and getting it down and passing it off or getting a shot off. Agger did what he had to most of the time. Gerrard was one of our best players in that 2nd half so I can't see how all this hatred has come about. Gerrard shouldn't get a replacement yet because he is still capable of amazing things. Lucas will come back and Gerrard will shine.

BthekingB

Why are boring us with this tripe...shouldn't you've have sent it to FSG if you feel that strongly, or posted on the Man Utd page where it'll truly be appreciated?

dd

I think you'll find Agger was excellent against Drogba! I remember him winning a lot of challenges!

Goalkeepers - Reina and Gulacsi.

Central Defenders - Agger, Skrtel, Coates, and Carragher.

Fullbacks - Enrique, G.Johnson, Kelly and Robinson.

Central Midfielders - Lucas, Gerrard, Henderson and Shelvey.

Wingers - A.Johnson, Downing, Phillips and Sterling.

Forwards - Suarez, Carroll, de Jong and Bellamy.

As I said a long time ago, and your list shows, as well as (at least one) striker, a winger and a midfielder we do also need a new top quality centre half

Chris in Tamworth

That looks pretty good to me mate! just remierez instead of johnson

billynwa

Sorry ramirez!

billynwa

No we dont.

Martin

I don't think we need another CB, Chris mate. We've got Agger, Skrtel, Kelly, Coates and if need be, bring Wisdom through as cover.

I would like a RW, Striker, 2 playmakers and a RB, if Glen goes.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

We need another defensive mid what happens if lucas gets injured again. Spearing isn't good enough an henderson an shelvey don't provide enough steele in the middle. Dennis 89.

Blair, I know at first glance we look ok in terms of numbers at CB but in reality with Carra on a downward curve we only have 2 experienced options. One of whom does suffer occasionally with injuries. I think Coates and Kelly will be good enough eventually but I think there's room for one, quality, established, strong, dominant CB.

Chris in Tamworth

Why would Adam Johnson join a mid table club from a potentially title winning club?

Good point Chris mate I forgot about Aggers injuries. So who would you like to see come in mate? I like Sakho of PSG but he would command a big fee and big wages.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

I'd certainly take Sakho or any one of
Hummels, Chiellini, Thiago Silva or Subotic
Not that I think we'd get any of them.
Realistically I think I'd try and tempt Samba back from Russia where he certainly won't be enjoying the racial abuse or even Phil Jagielka who I think is underrated

Chris in Tamworth

I think we've more chance of getting Tiago Silva than Jagielka, Chris mate. Totally agree, Jagielka is a pretty good CB. But I don't think he's underrated mate. He was an England regular before he got his terrible injuries.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Where belhanda?

Johnson would get more games at Liverpool, when did he last start agame for City??

Doh alex ferguson says that city have spoilt the transfer Market by paying way over the odds for players. He's right, but mr ferguson for how many premiership years have you been paying over the odds? When only 1/2 teams were allowed in the champs league and you were wining the premiership nearly every year getting all that money didnt you do the same? Aprt from the english kids which he got free most others have been way over the odds, Can't believe this bloke, MrT

During the rafa era a lot of his targets were denied by the board due to them costing too much. Ones which were reasonable we still lost out due to them being 1 or 2 million more then we were prepared to pay. That's why rafa was getting p... Off and had to go for lesser players. Also our scouts scout players for months with all the world knowing and then we got pipped at the last minute by other teams for a few quid more or the scouts didn't think they were right for our team but somehow are right few years later for millions more. By the time the board confirms kd or brings in a new manager all our targets will have been picked up. Typical Liverpool. arsenal utd city and others have already started. Come in get your fingers out and get these players now before the European champs starts. MrT

What you taking bout Murdoch?

If FSG are going to move Dalglish upstairs then they will already have his replacement lined-up by now and it will be done and dusted by the middle to end of this month to give the replacement time to sort out transfers in and out. If it hasn't happened by the end of this month you can safely say that Dalglish will be the manger for next season. Doing it after then will cause unnecessary chaos.

This is the best post ive read in a long time.Everything in it is 100% on the button. We have let far to many player's slip through or for the sake of some xtra money walk away,it has to stop...YNWA!!

Apparently Arsenal are due to announce the signing of Yan M'villa tomorrow. That's adds him to Podolski for new Arsnal signings come next season.

With Chelsea also announcing the signing of Marin last week. That's three potential targets already lost to rivals before the summer has begun.

If anything we need to be tying up deals before the euros start and before other clubs sign them. Surely we can agree a deal for someone soon.

Jonesred

Oh dear there's no one else left to buy. We are doomed!!!!!!?

i would like to say that i hope suareZ stays! a world class talent. but if we were to sell him for the 'right price', which i would imagine to be for about 30-35 million (correct me if im wrong),would that mean we go in to the market for two strikers. like coukd we get de jong and soldado for example? personally a good bit of businesswould be using money for suarez on llorente and de jong! we'd have the biggest strikeforce in the world with them and andy ha

Selling our only World Class player for such a paltry amount considering his undoubted quality would be bad business.

If we were to sell, considering there are a number of parties interested (I believe to be Juventus, Palermo, and PSG) and the funds each will have in the Summer we should be looking to at least double our investment of £22.8m on him.

RedSG

Agree with you RedSG

I hate all this. I just want the summer to be over in a flash and see who we have in the team and the mgr. All this rumour and speculation is doing my head in. If suarez is not in the team come next season, we are doomed as a club. How long did it take for us to get a player of his calibre in. It would take years for us to attract that kind again. Dont care how much money we get for him, unless it's 100m plus.

Relax

I am a fortune teller

I can tell you next season will be even more dire than this season

Henry has no money and we can't buy unless we sell the problem is most managers have seen the liverpool team play and leaving out Gerrard the rest of the bunch are pretty useless so their re-sale valve would be quite small and we would have to shop for players in LIDL instead of M&S (or Masons).

KD Lang

Wot like were gonna go for German players..

Yes we will be buying cheap Germans, like the brands from German discounters, no one will ever have heard of them and they will be pretty unpalatable, they won't get you top 4 but they may give you a good RUN in the cup that is!

Didn't the Germans win the last world cup and aren't Bayern Munich in CL final.
Maybe we should get some inexpensive underated Germans rather then overpriced overated English. {Ed016's Note - I think the German league has progressed the past few years. They have a great youth system in place now and I can see Germany and Spain going at it over the next few international comps.}

oh my god , now we are after a player rom a team that will get relegated , more bad signings on the way , and you lot who are kk lovers want him to stay , when will you lot judge him on our league standings , the cup we won , we won it by default really , we nee won it in 90 minutes we won it because the cardiff player missed his pen

I'll judge him at the end of next season. Why not try and show a little patience yourself?

How are old are you? Really ...tell us. Thanks

We won the Carling Cup by default? What utter rubbish. If I remember correctly we beat Stoke away, Chelsea away, then in the semi's we beat the new PL Champions Man City over two legs. How the hell is that by default?

Did you watch the Carling cup final,we was rubbish and lucky we won, lets face it the players kenny got in (downing,Adam, henderson) have taken liverpool backwards.

if suarez is getting sold because of the handshake saga , then that tells me our club is being run by loons , the protocol of the handshake , is that the home team offers their hand 1st , man utd , had done this all season when they were at home they shook the hands of the away team , only against us it was changed , so the management needs to look at themselves in the whole saga , not once did the owners or kenny back suarez , they made him take the ban , as they never appealed against it , but the big question for me is why didnt kenny say anything ,not one word about the change of protocol he never backed suarez up again ,kenny and the owners have let the Man Utd string louis up and out to dry ,

i think they are willing to sell suarez because of the money they can get on him , because they would not get 20 mil if they sold downing , adam , and henderson, just in class suarez should stay and the team be built around him , at this rate if kenny stays we will be fighting relegation next season , ive heard the name hanley , who is he , and what team does he come from , is he world class , i doubt it , maybe another mediocre player for over 20 mil

Do you think there is a chance that Louis Van Gaal takes over as manager alongside a young assistant like Sami Hyppia who will takeover in 3/4 years time?

07 May 2012 17:43:43
one of the reasons we have been so bad in the prem is because of our midfield and the very slow tempo they dictate , plus they always pass the ball back , i dont see any other team pass the ball back as much as we do , even sideways passes seems the norm in our tactics , because the players are made to play at such a slow tempo they teams we play get bodies back and wait in the box while our players are still passing backwards and sideways , i cant remember the last time we played with and attacking high tempo , plus how come theres always never enough midfielders in the other teams box when we finally get the ball into the box , its happend all season , so it must be kennys tactics , maybe the slow tempo is because we have slow players in the midfield , i bet the chelsea team were made up when the team sheets come out because henderson and spearing wont scare anyone , never mind chelskis midfield , and again downing is no good at helping his left back out , im watching the final again and again downing ran back with ramirez and then just stopped when ramirez got by our box , he does this all the time , we can always go on about these draws , and not scoring from the chances made but we need to look at why we are conceding goals , too easily for me , if as expected skertal get player of the season then who is it down to about the goals we are letting in

07 May 2012 17:41:36
Intresting watching the cup final and Liverpools formation 4-5-1, but Suarez had his backed turned so really it was a 4-6-0. So I belive the key way forward for Liverpool is to play Suarez in that gap and play a new signing or Carrol upfront and play a diamond shaped 4-4-2.

07 May 2012 17:32:20
Everyone knows we need another striker, all clubs have three first class and possibly an up and coming youth. We also know that we want a right sided midfielder/winger, needed these for about 4 or 5 seasons. I just think we need a central midfielder who can control the tempo of the game. Take directions from him. A type of player who can be comfortable on the ball, not panicking and rushing....someone who can pass a ball 3 yards between players. It sounds so easy, but we dont have anyone to create, or feed through balls similar to your xabi, iniesta, xabi alonso or dare i say it scholes. It sounds simple, but not many players can do it. Dont know if there are any out there available?

07 May 2012 17:21:12
Dont understand why people are speculating Suarez will leave. Suarez is not going anywhere unless we receive an astronomical offer.

Can you imagine the backlash from the fans if they allowed him to leave? The owners are not idiots. They would be under immense pressure if Suarez was sold. Can you imagine Suarez going and then us failing again next season? The owners would be shot.

Suarez loves liverpool and has publicly declared his intent to stay. We have the worst strikforce in the league arguably and our biggest problem has been lack of flair, creativity and finishing...getting rid of Suarez is the most stupidest thing I have ever read on this site. We would only be adding to our problems getting rid of him.

He is going nowhere, get over it. Yes of course if we get a 50million pound offer from Barca we'd let him go but thats the same for any player in our squad. We'd let anyone go if we got a good offer.

Gosh you people need to start thinking logical man. Suarez leaving is illogical on every level. At least with Torres, Mashcherano, Alonso etc you could see an ounce of logic why they left but not Suarez...its ridiculus.

Whats wrong with you lot?

Thank you! Someone with some sense and logic

If the Eds hint that it is a possibility, then people think its gospel. No offense Eds, been reading this(& prev site) since the beginning.

07 May 2012 17:37:23
It seems there is a consensus on here that Kenny will not be the manager next season. Furthermore, even if he is, there will be a new DoF in place. If either or both of these are true then it seems very unlikely that we will be lining up new signings until this/these change(s) are in place. That means I we can forget the current links to Elm, Soldado, De Jong etc. If we are to get a new manager they will have their own ideas as to who to bring in.

Bob

Who's to say that a new manager wouldn't rate these players and want them ? Maybe these are the players a new manager wants how can you be sure ?

JP

You may be right JP. A new manager might come in and want Elm, De Jong etc. But do you really thing FSG are going to try and sign a player now without having the new manager in place. I'm not saying we definitely won't sign these players just that any rumours about them being lined up are probably bogus.

It was D & D and microscopic indecent exposure outside Wembley. Ed 1 was caught running around in a pair of extra small Liverpool underpants, trainies with no socks singing Abba songs. The Judge (and elderly Liverpool fans) were not amused. I heard he got six months.

I have all stated and maintain the same stance regarding Saurez I believe selling him would be of no benefit to us, we would not be able to replace him with a genuine "world beater" for the money we would receive and according to the Ed's would be £30 million, which again I don't agree is a true reflection of his value. Main reasons and don't want to get into this too much again as I have already spoken on the issue, we should be building a team around our better players not dismantling it and it would send the wrong signals to potential targets, fans and the current squad of players.

In terms of the summer I am quite excited but not much would get me excited the way our league form has been this season. I am interested to see if we do replace Kenny, which I feel is the right approach who we would bring in. I do understand our owners are responsible and we don't have a bottomless pit of money but feel with some good additions and maybe two experienced quality players in the striker and right side of midfield department we could be a very different outfit next season.

In terms of our current crop of players a lot needs to be changed and that is not just in personale, it is also the mentality of certain players. Players are playing well below their capability. Downing is playing like a shadow of himself, granted I felt we spent over the top for him he should be a "useful" key would useful player for us at the very least. His main attributes before we bought him was his crossing and we all thought Carroll, Downing no brainer this is a perfect combination but it hasn't been well at least yet, I say in hope.

Downing and Henderson in particular look visibly scared and like a deer in headlights and thats my point I am trying to make the mentality of certain players has to change but thats partly down to themselves but also Kenny in instilling the confidence in them to just go out and play to the ability he knows they can. I just for the record have patients and faith in Henderson, feel if only he had Shelvey's cockiness he could be a very good player but thats all if and buts we will just have to wait and see. Certain players should not be anywhere near our starting eleven and that is not just based on a few games its my assessment on them over the season. Spearing a player who I have never rated in terms of being good enough for the starting line. He would be a decent player for a mid table team but honestly would he make it into any of the starting line ups of the top 8 teams? not to even mention their squad. Oh how I miss Lucas.

I wait for breaking news of developments at Anfield as I feel the owners are ready to wield the axe, who will go, who will come in. Macca said there are to be big changes this summer and I for one welcome this from D.O.F to management right down to the playing staff.

Liverpool had made an enquiry to Wigan about James McCarthy, rekindling last summer's interest anticipating that Wigan would have a more realistic evaluation of the player. Liverpool were willing to pay £10-12 million for him and hoped to have had the deal sewn up before the Euros as his stock would probably rise. However, McCarthy doesn't wish to make such a big move at this difficult time, so unfortunately there is no chance. Best wishes to his father and the rest of his family

I really don't know how we want to compete with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, ManUtd, ManCity!
For example look at Arsenal:
The are close to buying Podolski and M'Vila - 2 quality players!
And the already have players like Song, Wilshere, Ramsey, Arteta in the CM position. This is a quality Midfield.
And we have Adam, Henderson, Spearing, Shelvey and Lucas (the only quality player)!

How do we want to compete with them?
If this transfer policy continues and we don't buy any quality players we won't compete for 4th for a very long time!

Eds, am I right? What are your thoughts on this? {Ed022's Note - What would you like me to say? Liverpool are an institution and a very popular club all around the world. If Liverpool look in the right places at the right players, they'll bite our hands off.}

Ha Ha HA! What are you talking about? The Gooners I know can't wait to get rid of Ramsey, they're not exactly over the moon with Arteta either. RVP has saved their season by scoring goals, in fact if we had RVP finishing our chances off then we'd probably be above Arsenal.

dd

Eds, do you mean players would love to play for Liverpool? And would jump at the oppurtunity to play for LFC?
Why aren't we buying some quality players then? #reallyconfused

You seem to have conveniently forgotten Gerrard. I suppose if it helped you make your point though...

DP

Well we might do when the transfer window opens, it has to be open before you can buy anyone.

Gerrard is a AM!
I am talking about CMs...
#hopeless

Wilshere, Ramsey and Arteta all take turns playing attacking midfield...

been reading all to much negativity on here, give the new signings a chance to settle in ,we have a problem at home because were not encouraging the team that much,we have played some lovely football but the woodwork has denied us alot more points and confidence ,lets buy a right winger who gets the ball into carroll and make chances for him, suarez wont be going anywere just yet, lets build a team round these two, defo need another dm spearing has come on well, but looks out his depth against the top sides.we lick our wounds and move on ynwa

Afternoon eds and fellow reds , im starting to question what nesv want from our club all this talk of suarez going, money loss, no stadium talk . are all yonks the same is my question .because it starting to look this way in my mind. cheers psv {Ed002's Note - If Suarez leaves it is a self-inflicted would, like it or not. The loss would be there regardless of who owned the club. The stadium issue is something the owners have been trying to figure out.}

Its my understanding that the decision on whether we build a new stadium has already been made , the yonks will not spend there money , we are staying at Anfield , with a few thoudand more seats , I really want to stay anyway , also Kk will move upstairs , but he will always be King Kenny to me , yes he did make lots of mistakes , including not making changes at half-time on sat , should have brought on Carrol and Maxi , but he picked Liverpool Football Club , up from the floor ,and took us to two Cup Finals , lets give the man some credit for that .

I really think that some of the comments on here towards king Kenny was well out of order the weekend. I say this because the same people was saying that cup competitions dont matter. Then we draw a cup final not third round the same people want him gone.

Double standards or what?

eds ive been saying for the last three years that steven gerrard is not the player everyone thinks he is he might do something through a game that may change the game but since hes been back after his latest injury just confirms in my mind that iam right i know everyones goin to jump on my back slaughtering me istanbul and all that.Didi hamman coming on at half time had nothing to do with it did it.gerrard is a good player but not mr liverpool if you watch him play closely he will throw a tackle in then get right back up and throw another one in,he will do things like this in a five minute period and get man of the match awards and everyone saying he carried the team on his own.ive seen gerrard rip into players for making a bad pass that player then is on his toes thinking about the next pass gerrard makes a bad pass no body questions it when he was out for a period of time some of the one touch football we played was a joy to watch, gerrard comes back and everybodys scared to make a mistake i dont think he encourages enough and the sooner the better dalglish grows some balls and drops him hes going to carry on thinking hes the boss

For his hat-trick against the bitters, he will go down in LFC folklore. He has saved our skins so many time I've lost count, so show the lad some respect. Singred

I hope that the last half hour of the chelsea game is the point with which Andy can finally kick-start his Liverpool career.

I haven't been overly pleased with his Liverpool career so far, and I, at times, don't like the way we play when he's in the side, but if he puts in the same effort and commitment he showed on Saturday day in, day out, then I'll be extremely happy to have him spearheading the attack. It looks to me that he's put some extra time in on the training ground and finally began to look like the unplayable monster of a striker we signed from Newcastle.

I still feel we need another goalscorer, but I for one really hope that both Andy and Luis are here at the beginning of next season, and with a poacher added to the attack we have a great deal of options up top.

If we play with the same tempo and desire as we showed in that last half hour then we'll be just fine. I also think that result may have done some of the young players, such as Andy, but also Henderson, some good. I think that losing a cup final can be almost as good as winning one for them. They'll never want that feeling of losing a cup final again, and would of thought it was the perfect motivation to come back stronger next time.

Lets look to finish the season on a high by finishing above Everton and really get behind the team at Anfield tomorrow.

i live in the L4 area , actually i live in one of the roads off oakfield road , i have done for years , and what i understand through letters from the council is that its going to be a partnership between the council and the owners of LFC , so its not all down to just the new owners , i would like to ask you a question about the 50 mill loss , could some of it be down to the fact that we are still paying the wages of some players who are no longer at the club , and the ones on loan like joe cole and the aquaman , if this is so then it would not really be a 50 mill loss ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,mickey b {Ed002's Note - No. The loss relates to the period covering last season. The accounts published in a year's time will contain another loss relating to this season covering the money the owners spent paying off the likes of El Zhar, Degan et.. The wages for Cole and Poulsen for this year that Liverpool have paid total £6M. But you have a year to wait before that is finally quantified. The Warrior deal will kick in this summer but will not appear in the published accounts for another two years but will obviously help to cut potential losses.}

I have heard that Gus Poyet has been househunting on the Wirral and the borough of Sefton. Fits the bill as a young progressive manager with experience of the premier league. ( Personally I would like to see Kenny at least see out his current contract.)

Is he managing the mancs next season?

07 May 2012 15:40:53
We all are sure that King Kenny will leave on sunday, but who will replace him?
I would love to see Roberto Martinez, as he will get to buy quality players, Wigan would be relegated long time ago if it was not him...

Didn't Paul Jewell & Steve Bruce keep Wigan up too before Martinez took over? Perhaps they could take over from Kenny?

Martinez great choice the only manager who has had the BA--LS to play 3-4-3 in the prem . best thing about him improves players ours stagnate . if moyes ever goes thats who bitters and villa will go for . get him this summer .

alan waddle

So he should be Liverpool manager solely on the basis that he plays a 3-4-3 formation?!

Some of you guys make me laugh, you say get Kenny out, a guys whos team for most of this season has played good football but not got the results they and their play often deserve and replace him with a guy, Roberto Martinez, whos team for most of this season have played decent football but have not maybe got the results from a lot of games that their team and play often deserved.
And also I wouldn't care if he was to go Everton or Villa someday, I wouldn't say we were competeing with Villa and Everton for managers.

Players martinez bought for buttons valencia nzogbia sold for 10 . al habsi 500k mcarthy 2.5 million moses 2.5 millon rodagella di santo 2million plus his buys for swansea he spots excellent talent for buttons.

Why would we want Martinez? Brendan Rodgers has done better with Swansea than he did, and first season in the premiership, and his team is above Wigan also! He is a relegation battle very year!! We can do better!

Gerrard is finished and has been for a couple of years, without the goals he is dead weight. (an Indian summer against Everton)
Shelvey keeps giving away goals and Spearing does not have a big enough Brain for top flight football. Yet all three started on Saturday.

Liverpool needs to go after players that will play for the badge as much as their bank account. (Carroll will work out)

Character before merceneries

I think you are mistaking Shelvey for Reina.

Shelvey played no active part on Saturday.

Many a time I've come on here to say IMO kennys stepping down and I think it will be due to ill health as when he took the job to now all that has happened has took it's toll on the great man, although we've won the league cup and final in the other we've only played well in flashes and even his bizare tactics and player selections and his stubboness to say the least me scratching my head, I'm still glad kenny took the job as the man deserves it,he is Liverpool.

People have said they want rafa to come back and I wouldn't mind if he did but even rafa would off struggled with this team he might not off bought the same players, but they have let kenny down big time, if I could pick a manager and his team I would go for pep and the reserve manger is it rudolf as his assistant and Paco as coach and kenny as DOF now that's a great team cheers Pk

Like every fans in the world, I wanted Liverpool to lift their second cup this season but unfortunately we are not able to do that. Chelsea put a good challenge for us.

Andy Carroll showed sign of improvement in the pitch today. If he continued to play like this, this boy will be golden. I think Carroll is learning his lessons and will prove himself in days to come. I am not judging him based on just one game but for last couple of games, he has been decent (not the best). It takes a lot of confidence and courage to come as a substitute when 2 goals down, lift the team and dribble the ball pass one of the greatest defender of Premier League Kudos to Andy Carroll and Good Game Chelsea..

What is the team missing? Is it just a clinical finisher and two wingers with flair or something else. What does everyone think?
Invernesian

Definitely a winger, our service from the wings this season has been poor, i was never a fan of Downing before he signed for Liverpool but after seeing him in the flesh for the whole season he has been even poorer than i had previously thought, no pace, no confidence, no end product, but to lay all the blame on Downing is unfair i think a lot of other problems need addressing in the summer.
cobra

A clinical finisher, a natural right winger and a commanding robust center Midfielder.

ST: Luke De Jong/ Roberto Soldado
RW: Matheu Valbuena/Markel Susaeta
CM: M'Villa/LAssana Diarra/Javi martinez

+ above all proper man management, techticks, game plan & team selection from Mr. Kenny Dalglish.

just a quick question for the eds,

if we do decide to build a new stadium, what do you expect to happen to anfield, surely there would be a way to get some extra revenue, either by selling it or by using it as a tourist attraction or something like that?

thanks eds :) {Ed002's Note - It would be torn down and redeveloped; offices, shops, housing, gardens etc..}

Hey eds
would that generate revenue for the club if they sell the land etc, would that be able to offset some of the payment made towards a new stadium?

thanks {Ed002's Note - Of course.}

There's a decent article on BBC Sport, which includes an interesting interview with an architect who describes how stadium designs has changed over the past 30 years, and how the demographics of football fans themselves are changing.
It prompted my rather morbid post earlier.

I think we need a back up for Lucas, (ideally someone who can play CM and CDM) keep Spearing as third choose. A wide man for the right side, a striker and a replacement for any other player that is sold.

We could play with two good CDM if we had to but let Lucas sit back and give the other CDM freedom to move forward in to attacking positions depending on tactics.

I'd want a right sided player that can play on the right in a 442, but also further up the wing in a 433 so must be able to score

4411
Pepe
Johnson Agger Skirtal Enrique
?? Lucas Gerrard Downing
Suarez
Caroll/??

Doni Kelly Coates ?CDM? ?CM? caroll/?? Sterling

4231
Pepe
Johnson Agger Skirtal Enrique
Lucas ?CDM?
?? Gerrard Suarez
??

Doni Kelly Coates Hendo caroll Downing Sterling

433
Pepe
Johnson Agger Skirtal Enrique Gerrard Lucas Adam
?? Caroll/?? Suarez

Doni Kelly Coates Caroll/?? Hendo/ Downing ?CDM?

4132

Pepe
Johnson Agger Skirtal Enrique Lucas/??
Gerrard Hendo Adam
?? Suarez

Kelly Coates Lucas/?? Caroll Downing ?RM/RW? ?CM?

I think if we had Lucas in our team this season, we'd be much higher up the table. As you can see 3 top class players for the RM/RW, ST, CM (a player who can pass, tackle and good enough to play as a CDM) would give us a good starting eleven and a very good bench. If we are looking at buying three top class players, spend 45m on a ST, RW and a CM/CDM, Sell the players we don't want, ie Cole
Aqulani etc and hopefully get around 10m, that's a net of 35m.

That's all we need to challenge for the top4, maybe a little bit of luck along the way and a bit more noise from The Kop. Would love to know who you guys think would be good but realistic targets (not necessarily potential signings that have been mentioned on here)

PS Hope we beat Chelsea tomorrow so they will be playing Europa football with us lol
B Munich 3 Chelsea 1 {Ed002's Note - I would have thought that you would want Chelsea to win in Munich to save Liverpool needing to go through two qualifying rounds for the Europa league and start their season earlier than everyone else.}

If the editor believes Liverpool fans, or indeed any fans in this country other than those affiliated to Chelsea would want that soulless entity to win, he or she is sadly mistaken. I doubt the Europa qualifying rounds will be a major problem for Liverpool's first team, as it is likely that only the fringe players would be involved anyway.

If Chelsea get top 4 the same applies?

Really starting to pee me off now, all this talk of Kenny going.
We need to be consistent and stick with him and not be another Chelsea!
It's not his fault the new signings buckled under the pressure in playing for us, we need to give him time and not demand results yesterday. Just look back at when man u got a new manager in fergie!
Look at how he started off and look where they are now. I too am frustrated at this seasons results but know that thing will come good.
Be patient fellow reds!

I agree with your point I'd stick with the King :)
Invernesian

Just because it worked the way it did with Fergie it's a bit naive to think that it's always going to work if you stick with your manager. If it did then no-one would ever get sacked.

Just because it worked the way it did with Fergie it's a bit naive to think that it's always going to work if you stick with your manager. If it did then no-one would ever get sacked.

Not be another Chelsea? - so where wuld chelsea be now if they hadnt sacked AVB, would they have got to the fa cup final, let alone win it, and would they have beaten barce if AVB was still in charge.
Have you forgoten how depressed you were when we got beaten by Fulham last week, or when qpr, wigan, bolton, blackburn all beat us, and when teams have come to Anfield that have never beaten us there before and suddenly this season they are beating us.
John Aldridge was correct when he said that we are a laughing stock, (and why has his presence on LFC TV suddenly diminished since he made that claim).
Surely if we were progressing and, as some have said, that the team need time to gel, this would have been the case at the start of the season not at the end when the players have been gelling together all season. This is not progress!

We should get rid of kenny and get a new young manager who has new ideas , kenny is not the answer , this season should tell you all this , and i believe we still have not finished falling down the league , why does anyone think we will beat chelski at home were we have failed against most teams this season , did anyone of you watch the fulham game , im not sure but i think fulham was in the europa league and they are one place below us , i just cant see kenny changing his style next season and that will mean we wont be anywere near the top 7 places , thats not good enough for liverpool fc

Liverpool simply cannot afford to keep hiring and firing managers every six months. Only the toy clubs can afford that.

Red Owl

Liverpool simply cannot afford finishing mid-table either. So you have to bite the bullet.

I love KD he's my hero , but finishing 8 or 9Th is just not good enough. Rafa lost his job when we finished 7TH !! Time for the owners to revamp the club from top to bottom and go with a long term plan !

Rafa had a much better team when we finished 7th

A lot of people question why us fans think are club is one of the best in the world. Well it really says a lot that former players that are still playing now have a lot of love for lfc and openly show it so we must be doing something right as a club and as fans. I'm hearing a lot of rumours about Torres now don't get me wrong I would love him to come back and yes it does look like now he might be regretting leaving and wishes he was back but its not going to happen theres not much sentiment in football so it doesn't matter what he wants or wishes he's not coming back.. I know its been a terrible season but in Kenny I trust.

Ed002,
What was Boston Red Sox like when FSG took them over ?
I know there were similarities with the two respective teams, their history and the like.
Were the Red Sox' fan base at all like the 'traditional' LFC supporters ?
Were there any similarities between Bostonians and Scousers, particularly that feeling of, how do you put it, somehow separate to the rest of the country (I'm being polite there !) ?
And was the area where Fenway Stadium was, in need of regeneration like L4 is ?
I bet JWH is contemplating what the **** he has taken on !
Lol.
I suppose what I'm saying is, it feels like there may be a lot of tears in the process, but will FSG change Liverpool ?
Or will it be too much for them ?
The Real KB
ps And what's it all about ed, where are we from, and where are we going, is there a god, does infinity exist...? Lol.

{Ed002's Note - The Red Sox had some history from way back but had not been successful for years. Bostonians have a whining accent but do not see themselves as separate from the rest of the United States - MA is one of the founding states of the Union. The area around Fenway Park is the Kenmore district and it is pretty nice (not like the West Coast though).}

FSG had some public backlash issues when sacking the Red Sox coach, hence the delicate approach to Damien and Kenny

Infinity will exist forever.

Looking at the pictures of the owners non handshake to kk, I think it looks like he didn't shake carra's hand either. It looks more like he shook gerrards hand and then as the team passed by he didn't shake any others. As kk and carra were the last to walk by I think it was more a matter of a photo capturing something that may not mean anything but the press want to try and make a story out of it.

The board of directors, Kenny Dalglish and Steve Clarke are expected to meet in Liverpool 2-3 weeks after the close of the season. This is to evaluate and analyse the whole season and decide on the future of club. This is when you can expect news on Kenny and the coaching staffs futures, an announcemt on a Director of Football and potentially, even an announcement on the stadium situation. There will be an in-depth discussion on the club's finances after the announcement of £50m losses, which may slightly impact upon the club's transfer activity this summer, emphasis on slightly. The owners are expected to be ruthless in their demand for answers on this season's failure in terms of league performances. It was a joint expectation of Kenny and the owners to qualify for the Champions League and anything else would be a bonus. It's fantastic to get some silverware this season, albeit the Carling Cup but Kenny, the coaches and the players have failed to deliver what was expected. It is believed Kenny will be offered a new position within the club, it will not however be the role of Director of Football. It could be to work alongside Frank McParland in the running of the Academy.

I doubt they will leave it that long before they decide anything, infact they probably already know what they will do regards kenny and his coaching staff

Been reading through the posts since the Cup final and can't believe people posting to build a team around Carroll, after just a blinding 20 minute cameo in the Cup final, against a weary Chelsea defence; would be the road to ruin imo. Any good business man will tell you the best time to sell is when your stock is up. So I personally would not have Carroll on the pitch again this Season and sell while his value is at it's highest.
Just think if he was to have stinker against Chelsea tomorrow night, his value will drop down again :(:(:(:(:

Just a simple question, why is there so much hate on here for Rafa Benitez?

I have a lot of time and respect for him but some here seem to have pure contempt for the man, and this is coming from someone who often criticized his zonal marking and rotation policy, but I still respect the man and always will regardless if he returns to the club or not.

OK, the guy made a mistake with the whole Alonso/Barry saga (OK, Aqualani too), but with the soap opera of Rick Parry and Waldorf & Statler going on behind the scenes, its a wonder he didn't have a breakdown.

So haters why the hate?

I will back Kenny to the hilt. In days gone by, players were blamed not managers. Admittedly Kenny has an important and influential role, and once or twice tactics have been off. But a lot of the time, particularly at anfield, theyve been spot on, creating 25+ chances a game, compared to the 2 0r 3 the other team gets, its the players who stick all 25+ chances into the kop, and let the oppostition dribble the ball into our goal and lose 1-0 at home. Have some faith thet the players, not Kenny will buck up there ideas. Kenny better be here next season, or liverpool will have lost what it has always had over the likes of man citeh, chelski etc. A soul.

07 May 2012 13:08:22
I hope Kenny doesn't go. For a number of reasons. Firstly, no i'm not happy with the season. Hendersons been sloppy, Enrique peaked early in the season and has got worse and worse. Carroll struggled at times. Adam has been terrible. I think henderson will grow and improve alot. Enrique is a competent player, and carroll has the potential to be the most dominant player in the premiership if he plays like the last 4 games (blackburn, everton, fulham, chelski) I think all criticism levelled at downing has been harsh- the other players around him (particularly enrique) have often limited him- but he does need to score more
My argument is that it is a growth process and next season will be judged on progress from this one and the one after that will be judged on next years performance. Kenny's half season was a rescue job- not the true laying of the foundations.
If kenny leaves I think it will have a serious affect on andy carroll's confidence and therefore form and ability. Kenny is slowly nurturing him back from the injured, embarrassed kid he was when he heard how much he was signed for. He is beginning to forget the price tag, and rightly so.
Also- we were all praising Kenny's tactics last year- like when he played 3 at the back against Chelsea- it was genius. He nor Steve Clarke have become bad tacticians over night.
We will improve. We will get back.
Hopefully we bring in some quality in the summer, and really hope we don't make transfers for the sake of transfers.
I would love to see Ramirez, Hoillett, Johnson, Roux come in ( i'd love Eriksen but its unrealistic.) I'd hope aqua and cole would stay on as they can only improve our squad. I hope that the youngsters may get out on loan to get some experience, and I hope aurelio gets more of a chance- when fit the 2nd best lb in the league.
Sorry for the long post! YNWA

Hi ed002

A quick question regarding the future of LFC

If as you say Kenny and especially Suarez, our only truly world class player, go in the summer.

How do you see LFC progressing next season?

I know it's an open ended question but just wanted to hear a few thoughts off you as an outsider of LFC

Thanks

Mac {Ed002's Note - Managers, coaches, players etc. are simply transient members of the club staff. Keegan left and Liverpool carried on, Rush left, Hughes left and many more. Clubs move on. The direction is down right now and that needs to be reversed. Many of the fans have turned on Dalglish already and quite frankly it has not worked out with him. Suarez is a different matter but there is plenty of interest in him and perhaps it is time to go. Liverpool will buy players to complete the squad and will start afresh next season.}

I wouldn't sell Suarez
Invernesian

If we lose suarez then they only way we will be going is straight to the championship its players like him we need just the very thought of him leaving fills me with horror

I wouldn't sack Kenny
A Fan.

Good point

Where and how do you feel Liverpool should improve for next season?

And where has Dalglish gone wrong?

Thanks

Mac {Ed002's Note - Liverpool need at least one striker and a wide right sided player.}

It is definitely true I read it on Mourinho's facebook.

why do liverpool fans self-title themselves the best fans in world? surely that's not for them to decide

It's pretty clear to see to be honest. And we've claimed it- only after others have called us that. The geordies are a great set of fans. Stoke are good too. But rarely do even these fans sing louder when their team is losing than winning. Lets see what the chelsea fans do if their 3-0 down at half time in munich

Makes me wonder too, especially when you read the disgusting insults and pure poison that is aimed daily at the clubs greatest ever servant Kenny Dalglish.

Eds, Liverpool do have European football next season right? As I think they have qualified for Europa League by winning the League Cup. {Ed002's Note - Yes they have.}

07 May 2012 12:50:26
Let me get this straight!

I think Kenny has been an epic failure BUT! Did John Henry not shake his hand? If this happened then FSG are a bunch of T**TS who are they to show Kenny zero respect. By all means get him out but do it with some dignity.

Did this snub happen?

Or did kenny snub Henry, if kenny went to shake his hand I highly doubt Henry would have snubbed it. Looked to me like kenny was avoiding Henry.

If this really happened then it's over...the Kenny-haters win...

07 May 2012 12:36:49
Eds... Why do the owners hold the position of D.O.F so highly? Is it just another level of control over the manager? Is it a mostlya European thing? Great work guys, look forward to an interesting summer. {Ed002's Note - Director's of Football have responsibilities that vary from club to club. Certainly some clubs, and Barcelona is an example, have utilised a very experienced coach in that role and allowed him to influence the style of play. Others, take Manchester United, do not have a Director of Football and some, like Chelsea, have a Director of Football with an entirely different remit with a focus on co-ordinating scouting, overseeing contractual issues and dealing with the lower tier sides. It is very much an organisational decision by the owners.}

ed002 i no u have said for a long time u think kd will go and suarez will as well are u not a bit worried that we cant get someone as good as him and i bet we dont get the 40mill that any other teams would this means another new striker partnership for carrol to get use to all setting to club back more
{Ed002's Note - Clubs change strikers all of the time and if Carroll (who may himself leave) needs another 18 months to get used to someone new than Liverpool are probably in a great deal of trouble.}

07 May 2012 12:46:11
On the way back from Wembley I stopped at a motorway service station. I noticed the LFC mini bus in the carpark and when I entered the establishment Liverpool players were milling about the arcades and world of books. I bought a cheese and ham toastie and cup of tea and went to find a seat. I saw Kenny talking to John Henry and as I walked to the table I said " hardlines Kenny" He smiled and said " Aye we just needed that wee bit of luck but the passion and commitment was not in question in any way shape or form". Henry glared at him. As I ate my meal I heard Henry rollick Kenny and told him to feck of back on his cruise. Before I left I went to the bathroom and bumped into a drunk Tom Werner who laughed as he soaked his and my shoes and shouted " Kenny pissed away a fortune on some crap " I tried to dry my soaked trousers at the hand dryer and left. In the carpark the players boarded the mini bus which was being driven by Daneil Agger.

This is true no reason to lie but I think it gives an insight at some tension with Kenny at the club.

I just heard john henry didnt shake kennys when the players went to collect there medals and hes also been telling a fan in the street this season has been awful and the performance against fulham was the worst he has seen. RedTurk

Fsg are not there because of emotions , they got the club cheap and it is just another investment for them they will not accept the rubbish that we fans do because of our emotional / love for the club which i think is agood thing as we the fans often see things through rose tinted glasses. no matter how we look at it we need a shake up and saying players like henderson (who can not tackle , head the ball or shoot ) will come good is not the way to deal with things. get to anfield tomorrow let every one know we are still behind the club as the club will still be there when the poor players are moved on. best wishes to lfc , ynwa red mick tag.

It makes me laugh how the same people who have slagged Andy Carroll off without giving him a chance are now saying we should build a team around him. I've always rated him and thought he's played well before but not had the praise he probably needs. The main benefit of Saturday was that he now seems to have the media on his side for once which will help him a great deal.

I don't think we're far away from a champions league standard team. We've got the core: Reina (get off his back he's had one bad season out of seven), Agger, Skrtel, Lucas, Suarez, Carroll. And then players like Enrique and Downing will improve. As for Henderson, I think people forget he's only 21 and no one peaks at 21.

For me, we need a right back to replace Johnson, but I hope he stays regardless of his wages because there's a limited number of good full backs around these days and not many of them would want to come to us. We also need a good, tricky winger, hopefully young and skillful, and a good back up striker to keep Andy and Luis on their toes. We'll probably add a few squad players as well.

Most of all though, we need a dominant, creative central midfielder. Preferably someone a couple of years before their peak who's creative, athletic and gets goals, like Stevie in his prime. Someone in the Yaya Toure mould would be fantastic. I think it might be time for Stevie to become an impact player like Bellamy now and perhaps hand the team captaincy over to Lucas while still remaining the club captain. That way, with Lucas as captain everyone will be reminded of the 'Lucas lesson' - not to judge a player to early!

Anyway, that's my thoughts - not a revolution, an evolution.

Thanks, Sam.

P.S. AVB would be my preferred manager, however unlikely he is but I wouldn't be bothered either way if Kenny stays or goes.

By the time all these players peak what will happen to the older players?

Will it always be a question of peaking or do you need a good poke to wake up and reaise the dribble your alluding too?

Henderson 21 yes , if ur good enuf your old enuf!, u shud be able to pass more than 5 yards diagonally, and have a few assists n shots on target, HENDERSON IS CRAP

Hi eds a rumour is that john henry refused to shake king kennys hand at Wembley. Is this true when he went to collect his medal? I really think this is a bit out of order.

If this is true , its a disgrace my faith in the owners have now completely gone.

I wish Hulk came to Liverpool. Never happening, but is a brilliant footballer! And on the note of our new kit, ive recieved info we're going for an older look e.g. an outfit more like dalglish's reign as a player... personally I find the kits brilliant and it will remind us of what we once were.

JS signing out.

Give spearing some steriods and paint him green and now you have the Hulk

Not happening for anyone...135m buyout clause...better to buy half a starting team methinks... {Ed005's Note - He'll not be at LFC but that buyout clause means nothing in all honesty. If the player wants to go and FCP decide to sell him he'll cost nowhere near that. It's just to try and deter clubs.}

Just read an article on John Henry failing to shake Kennys hand after the cup final. Hugely dissapointed with our owner if this is the case especially after pictured shaking Gerrards hand prior to Kenny passing by....Kenny is a Legend, and respect has to be shown for what he has achieved this season even if we expected to challenge for the title and champions league places.
John Henry needs to address this much like he expected Kenny and Suarez to address the Evra handshake. We will not tolerate disrespect to Kenny Mr Henry, even if you bring us the the league title. Show some class

If this is true, I am deeply offended. King Kenny deserves TOTAL RESPECT from everyone at this club.

What he has done for us is immortalised in history and he deserves maximum respect for all his achievements

Tel 1949

It's absolutely disgraceful if true. But then what do u expect from yanks? Total lack of class in my opinion. It's all about money to them and that's it.

Kenny means more to the club and fans than any owners have or will...so john henry needs to show some respect.

Personally I don't think its true, the photo I have seen clearly shows a pause in the queue. They could have (and probably did) easily shaken hands before the photo was taken. I would have expected a far bigger response had it been true shortly after the final. Just some sad individual trying to make trouble out of nothing have looked through some photos and found one that looks as if they did not.

Buy only 1 of De Jong and Soldado, but its a quality team... play Suarez in a position as a free role, like what Stevie used to play!

Hope your name is john henry or shierk somebody investing in the club.won't get much change out of 60 million and weve not got that money this year .cheers psv

Am I the only one, or is anyone else excited of the fact the season's almost over?
That way we'll find out who the new DoF will be, the new manager and what players will be coming in, exciting times!

I'm looking forward to the rants from people going on about if the new players are good enough, people eating their words stating how good Henderson really is and most important of all, reading those rumours about Torres coming back and the fact that Liverpool are signing Aguero, Cavani and possibly even Messi!

The summer window has been like groundhog day for LFC supporters for 20 odd years. Gossip, rumour, excitement, false hope and eventual failure. Let's hope it's different this year. I still have faith in Kenny. He's only had 1 full season, he'll know what's needed now hopefully. Learn from this season and kick on. Consistency being the key.

Aintree Red

I think it wouldn't be a wise move if Kenny was given 1 more year, he wasted a hell of a lot of money. New young manager with exciting young players that slot into what we have already.

two pacey wingers with a wicked cross on them, creative midfielder to ping the ball to them, back up goalie, right back that can defend, Carra retire and move Kelly into the centre where he belongs, give Wilson one last season as back up to Enrique.

What new manager? We don't need one.

07 May 2012 10:58:14
Just a quick couple of questions. Does anybody think FSG would have sacked Benitez if he was still with us when they bought us out? If not then does anyone think realistically that they would re-employ him given that they may actually have wanted him still in charge? I'm not saying Kenny will go anywhere because like all of us on here I really don't have a clue about such things, I was just wondering.

07 May 2012 10:57:17
Hi All ,just hope there is not wholesale changes in personnel this summer whoever is the manager, sure there are players that have to move on but any of the signings from last year should be given another year. This is a very important summer for Liverpool and we must get back in the top four,I feel our backline is sound but our midfield and strikers need improvement,we need to buy established quality players that can hit the ground running, not a time for buying potential and it is vital that these players have pace ,we lack pace in midfield and upfront but players like this do not grow on trees or come cheap, just hope the owners have the money and the will to spend it as if we do not make progress this coming season it will be a long hard road back and may take many more years than any of us supporters would like. Thanks again to the EDS of this site for the hard work they put in providing us all with somewhere to vent our frustration and anger.

Well the season is over and i have to say i'm disappointed at how it all panned out
If people think the Carling cup win was progress then they are more deluded that the peep who think Rafa and Torres will be back
It's fair to say that this has been one of the worse seasons in the premier league, it's not acceptable to be in the position we are with the money we've spent
Kenny Dalglish is the person to blame for the poor season and should take full responsability, and have the decency to step down and admit the players he brought haven't been up to the job and worthy of the shirt
When FSG came in and the rebuilding started, we should now be in the position to challenge the top 4 and move forward next season, but instead, we have gone backwards and look nothing more than a mid table side
If you look at the team, you could probably loose between 6 - 8 players, but replacing them is going to be a difficult task as the top teams will buy the best players
I think it is going to take some years before Liverpool are back to where they belong, and winning the title ? I can't seem that happening for the forseeable future
The summer will soon be here and i usually look forward to seeing who the club bring in, but this summer i doubt i will get that feeling because i just can't see any decent player wanting to come to Liverpool
People on here name players like Adam Johnson for instance. Why would he want to come to Liverpool after potentialy winning the league with City and Champions league football next season ? If Mancini sells him on then he would probably go to another top 4 club like Spurs
You have to say thought that the rebuilding job on the team has to be done, and the right man needs to be in charge to get the most out of the players at his desposal, that man isn't KD
i have said all along that the right man was Martin O'Neil and FSG should have gone all out to get him. KD should have been DOF. I think it would have worked like that
We have a good coach in Steve Clarke but we now need the right manager to move us forward
I know a lot of you wil disagree with what i said about KD being the wrong man for the job, but it's time you all woke up and smelt the coffee/ He's a legend yes but his time has long gone and we seriously need to move quickly to get the right man to take this club forward and stop the slide

RedDaZ

Absolutely right, Kenny obviously isn't the right guy and that's been proven now. A good cup run is not the measure of a good side and never has been, did we all think that Man Utd were a good team in the eighties? I think not. Whether people like it or not a good team is always judged by how it does in the league. I'm not saying we should be winning the league every year because that's ridiculous but a decent team should always be competitive and we are miles behind. As for getting good players in then unless we change the manager and get in someone with a good standing in Europe we can forget anyone decent coming in, given what we've just seen why would they come right now? We can only live off our history for so long and this generation of players don't care about that anymore, they care about success.

Granted the Mancs were a cup side in the 80's........then they stuck by their manager and look what happened!!
Have faith

I was at Wembley and witnessed first hand the poor display by Liverpool. The sight of Stuart Downing standing motionless on the half way line waving his arms to his feet and asking Stevie G to pass the ball to him, haunts me.

I never saw legends like Stevie Heighway do this ?

What i did see was Heighway with space in front of him just run as fast as he could to fill the space, knowing that someone would spot his run and lay the ball onto him.

Downings type of play this season has epitomised why we have been poor. He doesnt want to be a threat, he just want to dance around with the ball. On many occasions on Saturday someone did pass to him after he demanded the ball.

What happened ?....he moved forward ten yards and passed the ball back to Enrique who passed it back to Agger.

Downing needs to either get his head sorted and quickly, or Im afraid he is going to be a big casualty in the summer.

If Im being really honest, I also think Pepes days are numbered. They had TWO shots on target and scored from both ! Both were saveable and the old Pepe would have got them

Not meant to be a moan guys, just an honest assesment of what I saw on a bad day out at Wembley

Tel 1949

Didn't have the privilege of visiting Anfield South this year - but your observations seem accurate. Can't seem to put my finger on why Pepe has been so inept? I think given his form since arriving, we can remain faithful to arguably one of the best keepers in world football tho.

Downing was suffocated by Enrique all game, but that doesn't excuse his woeful season. He's a very good player, but not sure if he's a good fit? If we had some balance and stability in our midfield, I think we may see the real Downing tbh. It's been our weak link since November(Lucas).

The players I can see going this summer are:

Doni, Aurelio, Cole, Aquilani, Kuyt and Maxi. That's 6 players who are pretty certain to be leaving...So to fathom Suarez, Johnson, Downing and Henderson(who will come good) leaving is pog wash!

I'd like Sissokho, RW and a quick, agile striker to come in this summer. If that happens, we'll have an exciting 2012-2013 season to look forward to.

After the match i think everyone can see that Andy Carroll is going to be immense.
He played something like his old self (at NUFC).
He completely changed the game and was our MOTM.

I think the next LFC team should be built around him.

Have him as the focal point to the attack.
In behind or beside him you have Suarez.
Lucas in behind them as the DM.
Skrtel & Agger as the centre backs.

So that Carroll, Suarez, Lucas, Agger & Skrtel.

Apart from those 5 I'm not fussed if we sold anyone else.

I would prefer to keep Henderson as long as he isn't played out of position all of the time. What's the point of him having a good game in the middle only for the next game to be played on the right wing?

I think we have seen the last of Kuyt & Maxi and Carragher.

Gerrard could be kept for the final couple of years of his career, but we have to face facts that he is not the same player that played against West Ham in that FA Cup Final or the Champions League Final.

Keep Kelly and look to start getting a few of the highly rated youth players into the 1st team over the next 1-2 seasons (Sterling, Suso, Coady, Wisdom etc).

I can't quite put my finger on what has been the problem this season. Yes we have hit the woodwork a lot, yes we have created a lot of chances and yes we have dominated so many teams, but we have not got the right result in so many games.

It is something as simple as tactics/formation? How many times has the ball be put into the box but no-one has made a near post or far post run?

How many times has Suarez had to try and do it all by himself?

How many times have we looked like we were playing to contain the other side for an hour and then try and win it in the last half hour?

How many times has it take us going a goal down (sometimes 2) to actually start playing?

I couldn't agree more with your analysis. We have a good core of players and that's about it

Why is it the fans can see it but kenny and mr clarke cant? bob paisleys skids

everyone who is saying we need to sell downning, look how manny chances he creates but neither suarez or carroll could finish. everyone is saying we need a playmaker, we have created the most chances in the PL but we havent put them away. all we need is:
luuk de jong12m
muniain18m
eriksen20m

So, because we create so many chances we need to buy a playmaker.
Agree with the signings but the logic does not make sense.

No chance

Downing is not direct enough and doesnt have the vision to understand that rather than just wait for the ball to arrive at his feet, he needs to accelerate into open spaces....one of his team mates will find him.

All the best wingers have this vision

He has skills and quality but he is not using them at the moment. We need more aggressive and direct play from him, not fancy dancing football skills you see in 5 a sides.

He must improve or he will surely be sold Im afraid. He is letting his team mates down

Tel 1949

Downing won't be sold unless the owners are willing to take a 15m loss...and that's assuming that another club is willing to buy him for 5m...

I dont understand some of you fans.... Why do you think we cant attract world class players? We have history and we will make more.... We have won a cup this season (which shows progress) and players like Suarez came to us without champs league. Yes we have had a seriously bad season but most of it has been bad luck and bad management. When we get the backroom team right we can then get the players needed and then challenge. Man City n Chelsea cant buy every great player. Theres a saying.... It gets worse before it can get better and it got worse this season so does that mean...... :)

Speedy

Trouble is speedy every year that passes without winning the league our history slowly fades. Youngsters support whoever is at the top at the time and at the moment we are nowhere near. We can't compete on massive salaries like city and chelsea and we haven't got the revenue generation of Utd and Arsenal. Lets get this stadium built and then we are good to go. Its a long term strategy and at this stage we are going to have to be clever with signings.

Long Live The King

Payback on the stadium is small and slow - global exposure and popularity is where the revenue lies - ignore the stadium built a team that can win and win and win and the money will follow {Ed002's Note - Just so folks are not misled, if a new stadium is buit payback will be a significant amount.}

Hi Ed002. You mentioned the other day how typically a company would have naming rights for a new stadium for 10 years. Is it then possible to negoiate again with the same or another company? How long would a 'mortgage' for a new stadium be over?

Also, lastly you mentioned Cheelsea earning close to 60 million euros in the Cl this season. Is this a combined figure of tv money, gate receipts & prize money etc? Thanks

The Irish Rover {Ed002's Note - (1) Mortgages can be as long as a club can negotiate and can extend beyond existing naming rights deals. Arsenal have a repayment plan on the stadium that goes well beyond their existing deal with Emirates but they could always renegotiate. Certainly a deal can be renegotiated the the existing sponsor when it expires. Chelsea will get about 60M euros from the prize fund which includes prize money and their share of the television pot fund which is the income UEFA get from selling the TV rights. Gate receipts and additional advertising revenue etc is separate.}

Hi, What's happened to Joao Carlos Texiera? I'm not expecting him to be playing for our first team, but I haven't seen him feature in our reserves. Apparently, he was training with Sportings first team before he left them.

P.s. Still very frustrated about Saturday's game. Chelsea were there for the taking.

P.p.s. I was at Wembley on Saturday, and saw a lot of Liverpool's younger players arrive with Mike Marsh. Find it hard to believe Jerome Sinclair is 16 yrs old.

I hear Rafa is coming back.

The players have let down King Kenny.
Kenny's tactics have created chance after chance, have the most shots on goals, the most posts and crossbars, the most possession and apart from Spurs where our defence was injured, we beat all the top teams who actually come out to play football. So how can we doubt King Kenny.

Chelsea, Man.U, Man.City, even Arsenal and Spurs have all had huge investment year in year out, gradually overtaking Liverpool in the league. Regardless of this Rafa with a good 11 took us back to where we belong, but instead of advancing to the top with great new players to add on to our own top players, Gillette and Hicks destroyed the club and took us back down back down again.
It was bad timing that Rafa and Mascherano just left before the new owners came in.

With Kenny given his chance, he has to deliver with what players at the club he has at his disposal, and then what players are available to buy at the time of an available budget.
Liverpool bought at this time the most effective players in the last few years. We all saw Downing playing great for Villa, Henderson playing brilliantly for Sunderland, Enrique outstanding for Newcastle, and Adam being the main man for Blackpool, and Carroll doing hitting goals for Newcastle.
Statistically they're all good investments where had we had been more clinical in front of goal with also a bit of luck, Liverpool would be further up the league.

It takes time to for a wave of players to all gel just like that, we can't have 7 new players in a year and a half to change Liverpool's fortunes.

It is clear when any of our top players get injured we don't have quality replacements, thus why we need to buy new players to have a good squad to challenge for the league.
With Lucas injured, and Spearing his replacement, Gerrard bombing forward is now a gamble, as before he has Alonso, Mascherano, Hamman to regain possession.

If Kenny can buy new players over the summer to then have a good squad, then anything can happen. Its like this i see all the teams at the top beaten by Kenny this season and last season, where with a new manager we may not even get that.

We just need assassin strikers to exploit Kenny's tactics, then if after another season, we are in the same position, then get back Rafa.

Mick in the Kop

In the next couple of weeks we will find out if FSG are the correct owners to take the club forward.

So far they have made many costly mistakes,

The appoitment of Commoli
The appointment of Daglish
The sanctioning of record transfer spending on poor and average players
The failure to act in transfer market in Jan.

So now we will see how far their ambition reaches

Will we be able to solve the stadium impasse?
Will we replace Kenny with a manager upto the enormous task?
Will we see the investment needed in rebuilding a squad capable of competing with the best?

I have my doubts. While FSG will do all in their power to stabalise the finances, I feel they lack the ability to invest in the club at all levels and make LFC a force again.

John Henry confessed he knew nothing of soccer so Im worried we will see more poor decision making but as long as the cost cutting continues.....

So far the owners have been superb.
They appointed Kenny after the fans demanded it.
They provided funds and did not question the manager's signings. Unlike Parry did with Rafa.
They have handled themselves with dignity when results have not been good.
The one thing they have been slow on is deciding about the stadium but this is a massive project and therefore shouldn't be rushed.
Long Live The King

Forget all the financial backing for Kenny to spend on arguably average players. We were ONE DAY away from going into administration and they saved us from going under. They wanted to buy us so badly they fought in court for us. They have spent millions scraping us up off the floor after the dire mess the Cowboys left us in. They have been amazing for this football club, and for the simple fact they prevented us from going into administration, we should be eternally grateful to them.

Marshy.

Here's an idea - let's have the nameless OP cough up 500mil, buy over LFC from FSG then make all the decisions ala Roman! You, sir, are a twit! Singred

Seen a couple of calls for Hennessy if Reina ups sticks and leaves....Which personally i cant see........I wouldnt be messing around like that, Id be getting Shay Given in straight away, Prem and International experience and would walk into most teams, been worlds most underrated keeper for years..........Though like i said cant really see pepe leaving.....if he stays he'll have to book his ideas up mind, very un-pepe like this season, whats happened to the shot stopping and awesome positional sense?!.....Onwards and Upwards!........

Anyone else think that LFC are trying to put a bit of spin on us losing the FA Cup final?

It's come out that we were 1 day away from entering administration.

{Ed002's Note - That is not new "news" and is to a certain extent over-playing the situation at the time.}

07 May 2012 08:52:16
I believe we need 8 or 9 players to be able to challenge with the top 4 again, we have fallen that much behind. There are a few players that will leave in the summer as we all know but we require a new left back/ right back. Centre midfielder (mvilla or sissoko

Striker? Winger? Have you watched this season?

With everyone going on about "the euros" and how we should BUY NOW! I'm more interested in the olympics football, everyone knows that all the euros will show us is someone playing well for 2 or 3 games which will see their asking price double (or quadruple if "citeh" is mentioned in the same sentence) then when they sign we realise their actually just gash! I think its a more prudent option to let everyone else squabble over the euros players then we can pick the cream from the olympics teams, they will all be younger and that fits in with FSG's phlosiphy (or however its spelt!) And before everyone starts going "the olympics? are you joking their all crap". MESSI plays in the olympics! so nuff said. Abuse away......:-)

{Ed002's Note - Messi will not be playing in the Olympics.}

Well said maybe we could scout undiscovered talent who plays a key part in their team. we need to look for that player and grab him.

Hey ED002, Messi played at the last olympics.

{Ed002's Note - Messi will not be playing in the Olympics.}

Can I quote you on that? ;-)

i have been a reds supporter for 35 years and watched the great teams of the eighties play the opposition off the park with there pass and move football, its obvious this is what kenny has tried to bring back with the signing of henderson, downing and adam but its plain to see for all are possession we don't pose a threat im cheesed off with us playing 150 passes only for it to end up back in reinas hands and then watch a team like city, united or spurs do 4 passes and put it in the back of the net.
carroll will score given the right balls but we just dont play that way and suarez cant do it all on his own,
downing has not had a decent cross for most of the season and it shows how much we lack pace and width in the team as we play players out of position to fill those spots.
lucas has been a massive loss this year gerrard looks like he has had it adam has been avarage this season and has gone from a big fish in a small pond to the complete oppisite and spearing and henderson have looked championship players at most.
even the defence is cracking carragher can no longer play at prem leval and was the result of costing us points at the start of the season and im still not happy with agger and skrtel ,the loss of form in are defence has also highlighted reinas faults.

with out question cole, aqualani, kuyt, rodriguez will go this summer and in my opinion spearing, henderson ,adam , carroll and downing should follow.
we need a manager with imagination and attacking desire martinez at wigan can do a great job in this team im sure.
we dont need 25 million pound players we just need players that want to do well for the liverpool team we need a midfield player that can get forward like scholes lampard or the steven gerrard of old we need 2 flying wingers and a 25 goal striker

there are also a number of players from lower down jordan rhodes at huddersfield max clayton and the young crewe striker they have will also be useful additions

and in morgan, suso, coady, silva and sterling options from within .

Martinez has struggled to keep wigan up year in year out what makes people think he would be suitable to manage Liverpool FC when we have a manager who has won the premier league won the old football league and the FA cup and Carling cup has won the european cup as a player for our club knee jerk reactions King Kenny is the man to lead us back to were we want to be .

Hey eds

Followed the site for the past few years now, and totally believe in the eds and macca, for their insight, info, honesty and dry humor answers (especially ed002, when she has it on her, ha)

I have a question as opposed to a rumour, in the general media, they all seem to be reporting, Kenny will be given more time, however, this site, for the last few weeks, safe to say, has been leaning towards to him leaving/stepping (in one form another)

So my question is, with the general media reporting one thing, how is that the eds are pretty sure, that he will go/step aside? (I'm just wondering as I don't look at Kenny through rose tinted glasses, and think he needs to go)

Cheers

Ray {Ed002's Note - I cannot answer for the other Eds but the "general media" is very much of mixed opinions. The bottom line is that the owners and the management have to make a decision on what is best for the club. Objectives have not been met by a manager put in place by owners who were fulfilling the wishes of the fans. The cup campaigns have been a real boost but it has been far from an acceptable season. A great deal of money has been spent and the fans will be the first to say that the team has not really been improved. What would you do to fix this?}

I would look to one of 2 things:

A) look to replicate the Barcelona way, by bringing in rijkaard as manager (who I believe is world class, despite, his tricky spells since leaving Barca) and appoint Txixi (spelling) as the DOF, and look to implement a plan, and a style of play, and recruit the 'right' players for the particular 'style of play'..but for this to have any chance, id expect rijkaard and Txixi, to really be up for the rebuilding challenge and not looking for their next wage..

B) look at the top leagues across Europe, and look for young managers, who have their own philosophies, who are winning things with these philosophies and like point A) see Liverpool as a sleeping giant and really want to awaken us

C) just get jose mourinho! Ha (that's tongue in cheek)

In my opinion, Barca looked to replicate us, and succeeded, we just forgot to continue doing it...

Morning Eds and all,
Well the better team won on Saturday, we only started playing when Carroll came on. Personally Carroll has shown he still has game over recent games, he must stay along with Suarez. We need another striker and De Jong is the man as young and already quality.
New manager needed and the rumours of KK being DoF seems realistic, would like to see Rafa back but also Brendan Rogers Swansea play great football.
Spearing was awful on Saturday, he is gone in summer. Replacement....
So Eds and anyone, do you think KK could be DoF? Is Guardiola taking a year off to learn English maybe? Would Rogers want to join us and possibility?
Thanks and sorry to add to your burden of many questions
Bazzaa {Ed002's Note - I don't know who will be Director of Football. Guardiola speaks English so is not taking a year off to learn.}

To the few pots from people saying that if Rafa came back he would demand this or be fighting with the owners etc etc.

1) Don't you think they would be clever enough to draw up a contract?

2) Don't you think that the contract would have terms in it to set-out exactly what is expected of Rafa?

3) Don't you think that the contract would also state the areas of control he would/wouldn't have? It could be limited to managing & training the 1st team and requesting players to be bought and sold.

It would set the tone right from the start that he is here to only be the first team manager and nothing else.

The youth academy is running itself now. As he was the one the set it up, I can't see him needing to get involved there.

We have decent owners now, so i can't see him wanting to or needing to get involved there.

Rick Parry is history, so again.....job done.

He won't have to sell star players.

He can request a player be bought. If the board can see that the player will improve the 1st team/squad then I'm sure that player will be bought.

Rick Parry is history.

So is Rafa.

Time to look forward and take off the rose tinted specs.

We tried looking to the past with Kenny and it worked for a while but not now. We need someone who can look at the squad and not see there past but what they can bring to the future.

Tristan

could i ask a question on our youngsters? suso, sterling, coady, morgan, wisdom, ibe, robinson & flagan? do u think they have the abilities to play for a competitive team in premier league? {Ed002's Note - They are all different ages and the likes of Ibe are perhaps three years away still.}

07 May 2012 07:03:20
Hi Eds...How is Lucas progressing from his injury? We sure missed him this season.
Secondly, what would be our clubs targets for next season according to you? {Ed016's Note - Next season has to be top 4. Anything less would be a massive blow to the club, not sure on Lucas, injury info has been few and far between from the club this season}

07 May 2012 03:41:05
U think kenny will stay for one more year and then we will try to get pep guardiola but i dont know if we will have him or not if we dont get him he will have gone to chelsea or city hope we have chance by next year! what do you think eds and macca? {Ed005's Note - No I think there is a chance Dalglish will leave this year and if he doesn't it isn't an indicator that we are after Guardiola, for about the 400th time.}

Surely Guardiola said 'no' to us after the 399th time? {Ed016's Note - He said when Messi stops scoring he will manage us :-( no time soon then}

Have we tried to get Guardiola before ed? And is he just not interested at all or is he potentially open to the job?
KiwiRed {Ed002's Note - No, Guardiola has not been approached.}

Admittedly only seen him on youtube but this Belhanda looks like the real deal to me, next Nani at the very least

I hope he's good if we get him....but i dont want the next Nani

Mirror and BBC are reporting that "Liverpool are lining up a bid for Aston Villa striker Darren Bent, 28, who is nearing a return to fitness."....Is this a old rumor or has LFC really shown some interest in Bent.....I personally don't want this deal to happen, again a British player linked.

I believe and hope that this is only being re-cycled. Luuk de Jong, I hope, would be our player this summer. YNWA Trustme

All I have to say regarding Rafa returning - he wants absolute control over transfers and will never, never work with a DoF above him, especially Kenny. But FSG's policy is all transfers are decided via a joint decision between owners, DoF and manager, a policy borne out of the mess created by H&G and in part by Rafa.

Yes Rafa brought in quality - Garcia, Torres, Masche, Alonso, Benayoun etc but he has bought mediocre as well. Dalglish's signings were made because he has a system in mind. The new players had only one season together. They don't become bad overnight - they should be given time to embed. We already see Carroll's improvement; Hendo will come good, he needs self-belief now that he's playing for LFC.

We are just a couple of signings away from a challenge. If the owners can't see we are a work-in-progress, asks KD to step down and gets a new manager in, it's deja vu again next season. So if you're still wishing for Rafa, be careful with what you wish for... Singred

Downing and Henderson look like deer caught in headlights. Some players just cannot cope with the expectations and pressure of making the jump to a club like Liverpool. No amount of "time" is going to change that. High level sports is mental, not just physical.

It's hard to "give" players self-belief. They either have it or they don't.

Henderson will come good, dont noe abt downing. Its either that his confidence is very low, or he is not good enough.
Indian Buzzer

The same was said of Lucas - but to his credit he didn't let the abuse get to him, worked hard and establish himself in his new role as holding midfield (remember he was an attacking midfielder with Gremio) Singred {Ed016's Note - Lucas was a major part of our team. I knew as soon as he got injured we were in trouble, we need another DM this summer, we can not rely on just one, no matter how brilliant and how great Lucas's potential is, he was out for a very long time}

The point is though that we all slagged him off, and we were all wrong. Is it a possibility that we could be wrong about some of the players now? Pot noodle fans.....tush tush

Ed16 to be fair we should have signed a DMF on loan in january and had Jay as back up

Having tried to refrain from commenting on yesterdays performance and just read fellow comments there are just 2 points I wanted to raise:
1) I keep hearing about Kenny's love for the club etc. which is honourable but earns him £4m a year. I reckon I would earn that amount buy the time I am 135, so clearly love doesn't come cheap.
2) Spearing looks like he learnt to play football by reading a book, he doesn't have a natural footballers bone in his body.

bench:doni/johnson/coates/shelvey/spearing/maxi/kuyt

You would still play Bellamy and Downing after Saturday? its got to be kuyt and maxi {Ed016's Note - I thought that Maxi should have gone on for Downing on Saturday, I do not know what happened to Bellamys spark}

Bellamy is much better when we're counter attacking

My only changes to that would be to keep Johnson instead of Kelly and swap Downing for Maxi.

Jackson Martinez 6m-10m

Sell
Kuyt.

A playmaker type who can play in the hole or out Wide like Silva.

If not
Demsey/sigurdson/dembele.

Belhanda
Others - Susaeta/hoillet/A. Johnson
Also maybe a young british winger Redmond/phillips

Cm
