So sturridge out till September, will misss the beginning of next season!

Right so first thing we need to do is buy a proven quality goalscorer who will get us 20-30 goals next season.

I can just imagine us getting ings or son but who do you think we will get?

Believable5 Unbelievable1

08 May 2015 12:35:27
Agree. Throw the bank at J. Martinez. Ings? He won't score 5 goals next season. Son would be great second striker. Cavani will go to City. Falcao is spent. Benteke is injury prone. Any other strikers on the radar? If Klopp came, perhaps a german like das bost?

Agree0 Disagree1

08 May 2015 13:13:06
Seriously coop. You slate ings and then suggest das bost a guy who has had a half good season in his entire career

Agree2 Disagree0

08 May 2015 13:35:37
And I think he's Dutch, not German

Agree3 Disagree0

08 May 2015 14:09:46
Dost is Dutch and not German and still even worse than Benteke (who plays when he feels like playing and a sicknote like Studge). But seriously, we needed a top striker regardless of if Studge was fit or not. Ings is not what we need because to me, he and Origi are the same as in, not ready to play for a big club with big expectations like LFC. You can go 10 games w/o a goal in the lesser teams like Lille and Burnley and the fans will still back you. Here? You will be run out of town due to the pressure involved. All in for a top striker should be THE priority of this window and the rest will follow.

Agree0 Disagree1

08 May 2015 17:02:54
if Ings scores 5 it will be 1 more than sturridge will get. get real with the Jackson Martinez dreams we can't get Roberto Martinez!

Hi EDs, Long time reader first time poster. I like watching young talented players breaking through to the first team at Liverpool & elsewhere like Coutinho 8.5m a snip when you think about it.Would like your view on the following. Kevin Diks 18 RB Vitesse, fast & stong.Jose Mauri 18 DM Parma, hard as nails & runs forever + could be cheap with Parma going down.Sebastian Driussi 19 AM/F Riverplate, two footed tricky. With your insight have any of these lads been watched by the pool. Thanks EDs

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No, but Mauri may end up elsewhere in England.}

Hey there eds,, do you know anything about The rumour regarding paul-george ntep?? In my opinion we have players like him allready.

{Ed002's Note - RTFP.}

07 May 2015 21:51:08
Just read (hopefully correctly) about the eds saying higuian could be possible. To clarify not that it is likely but if we went all out we could potentially get him.

So if instead of getting a CF, CM, RB & Gk we just got higuian, would you be happy?

Persoanlly yes! Is a top player have a good squad and talented youth, think he could bang in 20 goals and if studge was fit easy between the two 40 goals and couts would have someone to pass to!

Believable3 Unbelievable5

07 May 2015 22:40:22
Get out of dream world. We are about as attractive a club as spurs and its about time we realised it

Agree3 Disagree9

08 May 2015 00:35:42
Was a hypothetical question and did say not likely by any means. don't see it happening or the club trying but if we went for it could.

Napoli are 4 points of a CL spot (we're 4 points off) so not like he has CL football next year.

As for finances if we move all the players expected to go could raise £35m to at a push £50m which would imagine would cover a transfer fee with money to spare. gerrard and johnson clears £200k+ a week in wages plus the other 6-8 players going means we could offer him an increased salary and still reduce the wage bill.

Genuinely completely hypothetical and just a thought but is something I imagone we could do and still improve our financial position whilst making our team much better.

Somehow media/public know our targets in transfer market months in advance. And then they choose a different club!! Mikhitaryan, mohammed Salah, Willian. Diego Costa. Now Depay. They all seem to go on and do pretty well (Salah aside).
And we get??
The likes of.
Borini
Aspas
Alberto
Llori
Joe Allen
Rickie Lambert
Manquillo
Sahin
Toure
Dejan Lovren????
Everyone knows they are sh#te. Always have been, always will be and no one will ever offer even a £5 money off Coupon for them. Then you have Johnson, Balotelli & Lucas & Enrique . (Sturridge will probably join this list soon). We have to play season after season without half a squad,

I don't think Depay is any surprise at all. his obvious first choice would have been to play under his national coach, mentor and in a CL side that can pay up on transfers/wages.

Liverpool was always the backup option and to ensure Man Utd didn't stuff PSV/Depay around, there's nothing like a bit of competition to focus the mind. I'm sure that's why there were constant stories in the press about it too.

I would love to have seen him join but was only ever going to be if Man Utd focussed on other opportunities. Nobody's a laughing stock, it's just business and we just need to make sure we sign someone comparable instead like Vietto.

Agree5 Disagree0

08 May 2015 00:27:59
I feel for the Eds - they get abused for their comments (Man U is the likely destination, Liverpool may look at if Sterling leaves etc. ) then we have posts that Depay slipped through our fingers. ffs get a grip

who was the New Zealand lad everyone wanted last summer - is he tearing up trees at the moment?

I hope some of you don't follow me around the supermarket and say I could have / missed out on Gordon's Gin when i don't drink Gin!

{Ed002's Note - The New Zealand lad like most Liverpool players have decent careers awaiting as tree surgeons. It is football they seem to be struggling with.}

08 May 2015 18:15:02
The media and the public do not know our targets in advance. Ninety percent of whay the papers print is pure speculation, they are only interested in stories that will sell papers. The public get their "info" from the papers and web sites that are mostly no better than the papers.
Best plan is to bury your head for a few weeks then rubbish like the Depay stories won't bother anyone.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 May 2015 19:35:07
If happen? the signing of PG.Ntep will block the chances of some our exciting upcoming tarlents, if not already. the like of Markovic, Moreno, Alberto etc has not been good info to our youth player and Brendan is using them to strengthing his political strategies, we see it affected B.Smith and co. like Macca suggested, why not sign quality experience forwards and give our youth that chances for steady developement? though we would have to wait and see how it will pan out in the coming weeks.

Believable0 Unbelievable6

07 May 2015 20:18:57
I want the youth promoted just as much as anyone else, but this whole notion of "blocking" the chances of the youth is bogus. If the youth are better players than the ones we are signing, they need to show that on the training grounds.

So many of us, including myself, are crying out for the youth to get a chance; we are playing our veteran squad, playing poorly, and not getting results. What happens when we start playing 2-3 U-21 players? I'd imagine we get beat even worse. Throwing the youth in has to be done intelligently, and signing more is never a "bad" thing.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - So at least you understand that it needs to be gradual.}

07 May 2015 20:19:22
He seems like a decent player but like you say he may not be what we need. A good old fashioned winger with lots of pace and isn't afraid to take his man on. That is basically what we have already:/

Agree0 Disagree0

07 May 2015 22:22:24
Av to disagree, not sign this lad but think only Ibe is the only player who can play wide naturally. Sterling isn't a great crosser nor great at cutting in and shooting, coutinho is a no 10, Markovic before signing played centrally or striker, and lallana lacks pace.

Worry is have a lot players who prefer being a AM ( sterling, Markovic, couts, lallana) players who don't seem to fit how we play or work with other players (allen, mario, skrtel, borini, mignolet) if we get milner only one proper DM and 3 CMs (hendo, can, and milner) unless we get one in one injury prone striker are reliant on

Agree1 Disagree3

07 May 2015 23:15:14
Why are we going for players at positions where we DON'T lack cover? This is why the scouting dept and that TC should be scrapped. We have needs at the striker position YET we are going for wingers who based on what we know, will end up as a full or wingback. We need goals so get moving. By the way, Milneris just another expensive signing we don't need.

Agree0 Disagree2

08 May 2015 18:22:56
I think people seem to miss the fact that in the last 2 seasons we have produced 3 players who have progressed through the academy into the first team ( Sterling Ibe and Flanno) Most clubs would be delighted with that.
Who will the next one be? Personally I am a big fan of Ryan Kent but there is no guarantee when a young player is going to stop progressing.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 May 2015 18:54:00
I know it's been done to death but watching the Barca - Bayern game last night made me think, Sterling wouldn't get in either of those teams so he's at the best place for his development.

As for Depay the Eds said they always thought he was Man Utd bound so we suck it up and get on with it. There's similar targets for less money.

We are Liverpool.

Believable4 Unbelievable3

07 May 2015 19:09:46

Agree14 Disagree16

07 May 2015 19:15:31
Hazard & aguero are probabaly only two players that wouldn't struggle to get into that team in the whole league.

As for depay not bothered really but people need to stop saying he isn't that good or not worth the money. Not seenu h of him but is highly regarded and did get 21 goals in 28 games from wide which is impressive in any league.

Good struggle to adapt could hit the ground running never know!

Maxlfc, can't you go one post without slamming into Rodgers? I don't mind you expressing your opinion but when you feel the need to rip into him all the time it really writhes me! He's the manager of your favourite club, show some respect for once!

Agree12 Disagree6

07 May 2015 19:25:13
Here is my view on the Bayern - Barca game in the LFC context:

1.We need Suarez way more than Barca needs him (though let's be honest he would be so waisted with us).

2. If Manuel Noeyer would want to sign for us as a defender, not GK, I would take him even if I have to guarantee him a place in our starting 11 every game he is fit (he may have to agree to stand in goal when we play ManU).

3. The gap between mid table championship sides and us is smaller than the gap between us and Barca and Munich. Not that the other top4 PL teams are much closer.

4. Three players on that pitch were ex Liverpool players - in principle could be seen a reason for pride but in a sense the source of all our troubles, not being able to keep our top players.

5. with all this talk about 20 goals a season striker, how do you call a Messi player who is likely to finish with 60? about 100 years of professional football passed before we got someone like him and another 100 can take before we see another one. True genious.

I would tell any football fan to go see Leo Messi live if possible. I don't think we're going to see another like him for a long time.

Agree3 Disagree0

07 May 2015 23:01:06
Messi v ROnaldo? I can understand why this debate happens, but they are fairly different players. Ronaldo is all show with power and speed and twitchy feet. Messi is a footballing magician who doesn't need step overs to leave players on their arse. No competition for who is best, Messi wins hands down every time. Also, Ronaldo is a moaning, sucky, spoilt, self obsessed nob :) Just sayin'.

Agree4 Disagree0

08 May 2015 00:47:47
I have to disagree with your analysis. He's arrogant, he's beyond confident, but he's class on and off the pitch. Even if I hate him for his ties to United, I only read good things about what he does off the pitch. I could be wrong, but I think they're evenly matched.

Agree0 Disagree1

08 May 2015 05:58:28
I don't like all this talk of "we'll not see another like him for a long time" because we say that about every past player that has been touted as the best.

Pelé, Maradona, Cruyff, Eusébio, Ronaldo(Brazilian), Zidane, Romario etc. It was all said about them too.

When Messi and Ronaldo retire, we'll all be talking about the next big thing, whoever that will be and we'll be comparing them to Messi and Ronaldo.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - someone made a good point the other day about Messi, yes he is head and shoulders above the current crop, but in the past Maradona was playing in a club team that had limits on the foreign players in the team. So his Napoli never had Neymar and Suarez level players, nor did he have Xavi and Iniesta feeding him for his club. So how can you compare the two? What is to say Neymar won't learn off Messi and become even better anyway? I am with you hsf, there will be another that will create arguments of being the best along, and then another after that.}

08 May 2015 14:17:34
That`s the way it is I`m affraid, Ed. Messi is NOT the best to ever play the game and anyone saying that is just showing his/her age as being too young to know any better. Eras are diff hence, comparing is never fair. However, I will say that the conditions the like of Maradonna, Van Basten, Gullit and the other greats played in were more rigid and harder than the ones the Messi`s and Neymars play in today. Back then, the refs offered no protection to these players (Go watch/read about the brutal treatment the likes Van Basten and Maradona used to recieve from defenders throughout his career and you will find out that Messi would barely have survived mainly due to his frail stature)hence, I would take that era over this one everyday of the week.

Agree0 Disagree1

08 May 2015 18:04:34
There has only ever been 1 player you could describe as a "one man team" and that is Maradona. He took Napoli to their first title in the hardest league with the best defences in the world. He took a decent Argentina team to World Champions followed by runners up 4 years later.
Moreover he took the game to a new level.
He got no protection at all, he used to hurdle leg breaking tackles whilst keeping the ball under control.

Messi is awesome but he is not fit to lace Diego's boots.
Zidane is probably closest to Diego.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I am with you on this Ron, Maradona never had the quality around, for Argentina or Napoli, that Messi has around him. Until Messi can be that one man team that Diego was, he will never be able to truly deserve the title of greatest player ever.}

09 May 2015 01:11:18
Only the youth believe that Messi is the best of all time. Maradona was not just a great player. He was a god who was reverred by the whole world and even till this day, the city of Naples still worship the ground he walks on. He was magnificent. In my youth, there was a saying which went, "If Pele is the King of soccer then, Maradona is the god of soccer". Messi will NEVER be in his class because he has proven to be a great player with only one team , surrounded with millions worth of talent.

07 May 2015 17:47:18
That's definitely the last time I have a shred of doubt in Ed002! I didn't believe we would get Depay but I certainly allowed myself to get a little bit hopeful. Maybe I am just falling for the hype though, I have seen very little of him so there is no genuine disappointment to me. But once again Ed was spot on! Better get used to the idea of Ings everyone! Personally I like him but someone mentioned down below that "1 striker in wouldn't solve our problem" personally I agree but I wonder what the eds and everyone of that, will we sign two strikers?

Believable2 Unbelievable2

07 May 2015 18:32:24
Yes or perhaps 3? Maybe 4? I don't care how many we sign. Quantity is our problem not quality. Balotelli, Lambert, borini, Aspas, Sturridge, Origi, Yesil etc.

Point is if Ings isn't good enough then don't be him. Rodgers has wasted far too much money on 'squad' players to bulk up the team but who aren't actually good enough to challenge for the first team.

If Ings is thought to be good enough, good enough to lead the line when Sturridge isn't fit then great but if he's not then I'd rather we not bother.

Agree7 Disagree1

07 May 2015 23:29:29
We have three strikers on the bench always each game yet we play Sterling as a striker. That is a scathing indictment on the shambolic transfer business of last summer. Ings is another Origi who is not ready like Origi, to play at a big club. He is not what we need if we need consistent goals. We need finishers and Ings nor Origi is not one.

Agree1 Disagree3

07 May 2015 17:01:50
Am I the person on here who didn't even want Depay?

We already have Ibe, Markovic, Lallana, Ojo, Wilson, Kent, Origi and Sterling (assuming he stays) who can play out wide. Depay is just a talented kid playing in a weak league. Didn't Altidore score 31 there? Says it all really.

I think he'll be a good signing for United long term but it'll be at least ayear before he looks anything like a £25m player.

We need strikers though and I'd prefer Ings, Vietto or Son by far right now. Depay would've been a waste of money for us as we don't need another potentially good winger. We need goalscorers.

Try to remember that even Assaidi and Babel scored a lot of goals from the wing in Holland. If Depay gets more than 10 league goals next season I'll be suprised. Sick of all this depressing moaning about missed targets though. We got all this when we missed out on Lamela and Willian and they've done nothing to warrant their price tags either. Just chill out. There's still 3 games left of this season yet so forgive me for not starting to worry about next season just yet because United have over payed for a kid we scouted a few times!

Believable14 Unbelievable12

07 May 2015 17:17:50
I wouldn't belittle Depay so much. He is clearly well thought of, enough to dish out £25 million for him. There is no doubt that he is a much much better player now when compared to what Babel, Kuyt, Altidore or Assaidi were. And with the right coaching and management, he will reach a very high level.

Agree15 Disagree1

07 May 2015 17:23:04
You're not the only one mate, I've been saying the same thing. Why do we need more wide players?

One striker is all that's needed. Don't forget we still have the same players (except Suarez) that finished second last season. If we can buy a goalscorer that fits our style of play we could easily achieve another high finish. We are currently 5th with no out and out goalscorer so we aren't that far off.

Other than that we need to do what we should have done last summer and strengthen our defence. That includes a holding midfielder, a right back and a goalkeeper at least.

Agree1 Disagree1

07 May 2015 17:54:58
well for me not getting Depay weather needed or not shows that our manager and possibly our club do not have the pulling power to beat man united to the best players I am sorry to say and that is a worry we need FSG to show they can entice the best players but need to entice a top manager who has the charisma so these top players want to come other wise we will be always be buying potential . We then have to wait around to see if they fulfil there potential or move them on at a loss and we all wonder why we can't win the premier league .

Agree3 Disagree2

07 May 2015 18:16:14
But truth be told if we did sign Depay then every LFC fan will be foaming at the mouth. He is far more talented than Markovic and I would rather spend £25m on him than Lallana.

Sterling is going to leave and Rodgers is going to sign who exactly?

i agree with the real ag.

Depay is more than just talented,in the ribery robben mode.
We really missed out we could have played depay from the left.sterling can play on top and both wings.
if we cound have bought depay we only needed to bring in a top center forward.
This is really going to hurt us depay is a worldclass talent.

Depay is a very good player, no doubt about it. But he is not what we need because he was an option like Son if Sterling left. We need goals in our team and we have Lallana, Marko, Sterling and Ibe who can play wide in addition to the fact that all these players have more PL experience than he does which cannot be discounted.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 May 2015 23:39:06
i also agree with the real ag,

its ok saying we didn't need another wide player but if sterling goes we will have potential and maybe at 1st they will play good but the season is long and hard and i don't think they will last the distance , we needed depay just to add something special , you might say he is a wide player but he has other attributes going for him he has an eye for goal , i wish our wide players scored as many as he did , also he is good at set pieces , so yea we have lost out , i can't believe some saying they would have danny ings instead of depay , depay is on a higher level and it could just be a case of looking good in a bad team for ings , he maybe another andy carrol , or he maybe the next rush , the fact is we can't get quality players anymore so we have to depend on potential , and if danny ings was really that good why are chelsea , barcelona and real madrid not going in for him , it does not really matter about depay in a way its more about not being able to attract these type of players , and it will be a long time before we do , i do think depay will make good is move and in a season or 3 he will make a big money move to the big spanish teams for a huge profit , like ronaldo who wanted to come to us , also danny alves , well that's in the past so is our club

"Everyone" doesn't decide whether Rodgers gets a year or not man. You can't stop people from speculating and talking and the owners rightly don't need to respond to every gossip that goes around.

07 May 2015 17:38:03
FSG have no obligation to discuss such things in public. When the time is right, they will make their decision. Making unnecessary statements just to appease worried fans is a poor business PR which imo should be left to Brendan.

They owe nobody NOTHING and will make their decision when they see fit as they did when they took their time to let KK go. BR and his allies in the media can spin and placate one another as much as they want but the fact that the owners are saying nothing now, just as they did when they let KK finish the season after winning a trophy yet still let him go, should be a real concern for him, his media allies and his apologists worldwide.

07 May 2015 20:52:00
Do not forget without FSG the club would be in a far worse place financially than it is now, i.e. bankrupt. So blaming them when things go off track does not make sense. Last season we punched above our weight and with out Suarez would not have challenged as long as we did. So where we are now is par with where we should be with the quality or lack there of we have. But I agree with the first point. Unfortunately top end players that want to come to England will look at LFC as a fifth or sixth choice behind Chelsea, United, Arsenal, City and if they want to live in the south Spurs. We will end up with the left overs that the other teams have no interest in. That however is not the fault of FSG. They provided money and it has been spent on mediocrity, meaning we finish in a mediocre position. Due to FFP there will be no 120 million this summer so the mediocre needs to improve or this, I fear, will be our lot for the next several seasons.

Agree4 Disagree4

07 May 2015 23:53:24
If you are going to blame the owners for BR's failures, you will meet that criticism with the furor of many fans. They don't pick player to buy, the tactics and the system. BR oversees all that as he demanded when he was hired and by the facts on the ground, is severely poor at it. He has had his chance to get players in who would severely improve us and choked on it. He has failed miserably so if you wanna blame the owners for the transfer committee, trusting incompetent people like Comolli or not standing their ground on their wish to NOT give BR full control of the team and transfers from the get go, by all means, go ahead. But if you wanna blame them for his own failures after backing him to the hilt, don't be surprised if you get responses that are not palatable

Agree0 Disagree2

07 May 2015 16:00:15
If anyone has actually seen depay play live for full 90 mins you would not be complaining this much. He is quite wasteful, and has a lot to learn until he can become a £30m player, kind of like sterling. Let's be honest here, sterling is better and will be better than depay. Don't be fooled by the record he got in the Dutch league, he will not replicate that at all in the bpl where there will be huge pressure on him and he will not be the main guy in the team. The only reason we would have got depay was as a replacement to sterling. If sterling can commit another couple of seasons then I would prefer that option than selling now and getting depay. Because in two seasons time sterling will be worth a lot more and we will be able to get a better player than depay. I think everyone should chill out about this transfer because it was never an area we needed to boost.

In those wide positions we have coutinho, sterling, Ibe, lallana, markovic. I suspect a main striker will come in to play centrally and most probably take sturridges positions, so Sturridge and origi will most likely play in those areas as well.

Striker is the position we need to spend well for, along with central midfield.

07 May 2015 16:56:26
Agree with you on the striker part. That is where we should focus on. Depay was not a priority because he was up for discussion if Raheem left and besides, we are well served in wide areas. Striker is the priority and the ONLY priority.

07 May 2015 17:08:55
I would say a right back as well Ohio. But striker first yeah.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 May 2015 17:22:40
LFC were looking at Depay as a potential replacement for Sterling. What makes you think Sterling will be at LFC next season? I do agree that at the moment in time, there is no big difference between Sterling and Depay IMO. And again I agree that we have plenty of players to play in a similar position, but clearly, LFC want to bring in a replacement if Sterling leaves, hence interest in Depay, Ntep, Vazquez and scouting Kishna, Bakkali, Ayew.

Agree2 Disagree0

07 May 2015 17:55:01
I don't think its loosing Depay that bothers so much. Its the thought of losing him to Utd and losing another SUPPOSED target. Its who have we actually got here that young players would want to come and play or work with. We have no big players anymore and a manager that nobody around Europe has heard of. We have shown little ambition. What is there to excite or attract? Its this that hurts more than the Depay saga.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 May 2015 18:34:50
The difference (if we believe the media) is Depay is a class player, whereas Sterling may have pace but misses open goals!

Agree1 Disagree0

07 May 2015 21:46:24
Sterling believes he has seen the writing on the wall.

He wants a club and a manager with ambition.
One cannot blame him, a footballer's career is short.

He has not been given the right signals.

Players loaned out, played out of position etc.

He talks to his agent and asks where is this club going ?

The agent says; nowhere.

He is at the centre of operations and has a better view as to what is going on?

Therefore he wants to move on.

That is the reality.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 May 2015 00:01:08
You're not far from the truth, Yuri. There is no direction nor definite structure at the club and the manager makes up systems as he goes along and sometimes, he plays a game having played at three diff positions a times like wingback, striker or wide. The poor boy prolly doesn't know what position he will play before a game. He wants to compete and progress and if we are dithering around and can't do that especially with an incompetent manager who can't keep his gob shut, he will and should assess his options.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 May 2015 09:17:12
Sooooo . going to a Real Madrid or some team of that ilk is going to provide a better platform for Sterling to progress?

You only have to look at numerous examples of that NEVER working out for a young player.

If Sterling wants to progress as a plyer, he either stays with us or goes to a club below us to play in his favourite position every week.

They play different positions so comparing them makes little sense. Son would be more useful to LFC and it is the kind of player we want, not Depay. If Sterling leaves, LFC will likely bring in another wide player.

Agree2 Disagree0

07 May 2015 17:42:28
Babyshambles, what makes u think Son is not good enough? I have seen him rip teams apart at Leverkusen so he is more than good enough and would walk into our starting 11. He has abundant pace to burn, would fit into our high press from the front seamlessly and has a wicked shot on him. What else do u want from someone who the club could sign for less than 20 million GBP? Son and Vietto would be a dream pair of forward signings for the club if Sterling leaves.

My predictions for the rest of the season/summer

BR finally gets fed up and plays Balo and Borini upfront against Chelsea after everyone else gets injured (including Skrtel who played striker for a few minutes before heading himself against the post). they score 2 goals each to win 4-2

BR ostrasises Balo and Borini once again for the remaining games, playing Enrique upfront as a sole striker after flying him back from his Santorini island cruise trip at short notice. He's desperately out of shape but we draw both games 0-0

Man Utd loses all 3 games into the end of season, handing CL status to Liverpool for next season

Balotelli gets sold for a bag of practise balls and a bottle of spray tan to join Verona who go on to win the Italian league with a unique 8-1-1 formation, and Balo as top scorer with 42 goals (from 358 shots at goal), 37 of which are scored from behind the halfway line and the team only concedes 8 goals all season

Depay tears up his contract during the summer in frustration and joins liverpool in order to play CL football - however he loses out anyway with Joe Allen picked ahead of him at left wing after Milner takes his midfield position

Sterling completes 354 take on's in the 15/16 season however fails to make a single pass, but scores 3 fabulous goals after dribbling around the field 3 times

Liverpool finish 9th, fire BR and bring back Roy Hodgson to add some spice to our attack. First signing he makes is to bring back Gavin Johnson.

You heard it hear first!

reds,

can we not moan about utd signing depay or clasing it as a failure please.

a) to fail would imply we actuallmade a concerted effort to sign him

b) if rue they've paid 25-30m for a some one whos had one goo season it's a massiv gamble.

c) we only needed him if sterling left which he is not certain to do at the moment. if we signed him still with sterling on the books, where does that leave ibe?

Believable4 Unbelievable1

07 May 2015 16:01:04
He was our top target. To say we haven't made an effort is ridiculous, we've been watching him and speaking to his representatives for 18 months now. We never actually went in for him but he was definitely our top target.

Depay is in another bracket to Ibe. He's like Sterling but with a goalscoring touch. Something that Sterling will no doubt get with age but right now, Depay CAN score goals. Sterling struggles.

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed002's Note - Where does this term "top target" come from. Why not search for him and see what has been said.}

07 May 2015 16:25:53
A) made no effort because we knew we would never get him over untied.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 May 2015 17:01:49
He was not our top target if you've been reading the posts. He was one of the alternatives if Sterling left along with Son and Ntep as mentioned here. Depay was one of utd's top targets while Bale is their no. 1 target but no relation to Depay.

Agree0 Disagree2

07 May 2015 17:28:40

His eds. I can't believe that people on here actually think that we (LFC) will sign someone that we all have actually heard of before. we are not going to be in champions league next season so our options are going to be limited. I feel Rodgers should stick with youth instead of paying big bucks for second/third rate players who he will end up been forced to sign as the big names will not come to us any more. Sorry for the rant but when you see players going to United instead of Liverpool. It makes me Ill. Which direction would you go. ?? Help

Believable6 Unbelievable4

07 May 2015 14:20:55
Half of the last summer signings will probably end up on loan. Then we'll sell those that were on loan this season, before finishing the window with some 'potential' players.

Then next summer we will repeat and end up in an endless cycle.

Agree6 Disagree5

07 May 2015 17:05:25
Why should it make you feel sick? It's normal that they are more attractive and will have CL and even if they don't, they can pay the wages that we can't. That is the reality and nothing more.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 May 2015 18:34:31
Ballotelli will go loan imo lambert and borini will go for money maybe sterling , Johnson Gerrard and toure Enrique free up wages . Milner I hear on a free let's see what happens but the core of the team is left (I hope lucas stays ) , it's time the others step up for us and a few smart additions will help us although I do have reservations about transfer group to get it right. Why don't we consider signing Chicharito Hernandez this summer? He will be a good buy at less than 10million and looking at the chances he has got at madrid, he has performed well. I know we will have to shed our ego and negotiate with United, but is it possible?

Believable3 Unbelievable9

07 May 2015 14:19:07
Because he´s a Man united player, and Man united and LFC do not trade with eachother. Furthermore, Hernandez would not fit in with the style that Brendan plays with.

Red Rum, Soon is actually a very good player. He would have gotten much more press and attention if he was from Europe or South America. Has very good pace and acceleration and can play anywhere across the front 3. Son and Vietto should be priority this summer as just one striker will not solve our problems in front of goal considering Sturridge will get injured often next season as well if recent history is to go by. I wanted to get your opinions guys on who from the academy do you feel could step up to the first team next year and become a part of the squad (just to discuss something else than BR and Depay)

In my opinion i feel Danny Ward can replace Brad Jones.

Sheyi Ojo, Ryan Kent, Cameron Brannagan, Jordan Williams, Jerome Sinclair deserve their chances next season i think. The likes of Conor Randall, Llyod Jones, Jordan Rossiter, Harry Wilson & Sergi Canos are a year off imo.

Ryan Mclaughlin, Brad Smith, Marc Pelosi, Samed Yesil will probably all leave the club because of injuries and other reasons.

If Sterling leaves we really need to give Jordon Ibe, Sheyi Ojo, Ryan Kent their chances instead of haulting their progress by signing someone not ready! (Confusing tosh) f.eks why Sign Markovic? He was no more ready than Jordon Ibe. What do you think guys? especially ed001:) Cheers

Is it just me or can anyone else actually see the real damage caused by the Sterling saga? Its not just the fact that it has and is dragging the club through the mire, but more importantly it would make any LFC target look at the club and wonder y go there? We as a club should take a good look at ourselves and how we manage our affairs not just on the pitch either.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

07 May 2015 13:35:03
If you look at how BR has treated Gerrard, Sakho, Carroll, Downing, Balotelli, Mignolet etc.

Then I´m sure that would scare off potential players. Furthermore, they will be playing so many different positions, and systems that they will never fulfill their potential - there are plenty of reasons why potential players should avoid LFC at the moment.

Hi all,

I don't think we should at all be surprised that Depay has signed for Man UTD. They are the third richest club in the world and can offer that bit more we can't. Also the players he will be playing with will be much more appealing; di Maria, Rooney, mata, de gea, van persie and bring managed but another Dutchman. We would have a crocked potentially world class striker, a contract rebel, a brazilian who is as consistent as lumpy custard a hendo with joe Allen next to him.

Let's not get wound up by "missing out" on depay there are other needs. A replacement for Stevie, a new GK and a very good striker!

Believable2 Unbelievable5

07 May 2015 13:07:47
He was never coming to us. Media hypes things up and some of our fans begin to fantasize. We have moved down a peg or two (more like 6 or 7). Old saying 'you have to speculate to accumulate' comes to mind. Will anyone come to BR? Does anyone know him on the continent? Make of this what you will, but rumours concerning us are all total B.S. unless it's about signing some 17-18 year old in a remote village somewhere with 'bags' of potential! What a joke!

We are not battering him. We are only calling out BR for the trash he talks about wanting top signings then buys potential and then calls said incoming players world class. Try to keep up instead berating fans for having an opinion and IMO, a valid point

Wise up
I wanted depay to join united for the cost and not needing another winger.
DepaY is a good fast player who will cost united close to 30milion. They may afford this but we cannot when we have not one top class fit' striker, a goalkeeper needing replaced and a midfielder in.
DepaY has not been mentioned by one Liverpool fan before he was rumoured' and he was always set for united. We haven't missed out on messi, people need to get a grip.
And it would be criminal for us to spend yet more millions on an unproven young player in a position that is full at club. There is sterling Ibe, markovic and lallana plays wide attacking positions.
If we are spending 25-30 million even if it is from sterlings sale, it should be towards a top striker and goalkeeper.

Believable8 Unbelievable2

07 May 2015 13:07:48
None of which have ever scored double figure in a season much more 21 goals???? having had Depay would be similar to Messi for us as we have no goal scoring threat

Agree3 Disagree2

07 May 2015 13:16:31
It is the Dutch league. The only player who scored plenty in that league and was a success was a previous past player of ours who we are all aware of.
And Ibe who i believe will be a top class player has yet to be given a proper chance in the team never mind a run of games. Markovic is settling and I do expect lallana to reach double figures next season (10_15 goals). Lallana is an outstanding player

Agree7 Disagree0

07 May 2015 13:19:55
We have a bigger need that Depay cannot fill.

Agree4 Disagree0

07 May 2015 13:30:27
The only player who scored plenty in that league and became a success? I assume you must mean our very own ruud van nistelrooy as I fail to recall any dutch Liverpool players as a success. Unless you class kuyt as a success.

Agree1 Disagree5

07 May 2015 13:33:08
Depay would have covered any position across the front line or been able to play as twin striker whereas Sterling, Countinho, Llalana, Markovic more no.10's or wingers rather than natural forwards. Ibe is probably closest thing but still young.

I would have loved to see Depay but LVG was always going to be likely to be too big hurdle if Man U wanted him.

Onwards and upwards, just hope we sign someone else as good eg. Vietto

Agree2 Disagree0

07 May 2015 13:48:06
Every time there is a rant about its only the Dutch league or its only the French league as if the Epl is so superior to every other league yet they can't reach anywhere in the champions league. No matter what league you are in a goal is a goal and all the leagues have good keepers so stuff that narrow minded idea somewhere else. Depay has done phenomenal regardless of what league he is playing and would have been great for us as our top scorer combined with all our other top scorers probably still ain't equal to his total in the league.

Agree1 Disagree1

07 May 2015 14:16:13
Kingcantona, you don't have to be a dutch national to play in the dutch league. Suarez is who the reference is to, a player who makes van nistleroy look like a 3 legged donkey.

Milner can play as a pair of box-to-box midfielders with Hendo (vs. Lucas more defensive and Allen not threatening enough in attack). Probably more direct competition with Can but miles more experience if required.

I also think he can play holding midfielder/deep playmaker in a midfield 3, adds experience in dressing room, can also cover RB and other positions too if we have injury crisis.

I think a good fit given all the experience we're losing, I think he'll add some real steel to the team.

Here is one very easy equation, the posts on here today are all really quite light and non aggressive. Is it a coincidence that Brenda has not spoken to the press? I do believe that if the owners only allow him to talk to the press after agreeing what he can and can't say he would be seen in a better light. Remove his egotistical half witted comments out of the newspapers and take the more humble path would improve certain aspects of LFC. ynwa

Is depay on his way to United? Cause if that's the case Liverpool are just gunna go for the wrong players again this summer, there's no way we can challenge for the title if the other big clubs are buying the right player BR out Klopp in! Get rid of sterling and use the money wisely!

Glad he went there because for me, we don't need him because we need a true tricker who can score goals and not a winger who scores goals. We already have Raheem, Marko and Ibe to play wide. We need goals, period.

Agree2 Disagree1

07 May 2015 12:30:49
Cue the meltdown now Depay has agreed deal with Man Utd. How our business/targets get leaked so easily is criminal and makes the club look so, so amateur when the deals don't get completed.

I'm gutted Depay won't be joining us.Hhe has the potential to be a great player and is better than what we have currently in his position, but a striker has to be the priority! If we were able to get Vietto I would be happier than had we signed Depay. Although I fear we will end up with Ings and Benteke and won't move forward at all.

Should Sterling go, an outcome I wouldn't be too disappointed with, I hope we go for Son from Leverkusen. I read that one of the Ed's is a massive fan of his and I share the same opinion. Would he be interested in a move to us, does anyone know?

Keep positive guys!!

Believable3 Unbelievable2

07 May 2015 13:28:42
Depay was never coming here as many had mentioned here because Utd was always going to be his destination since mid season so no shock there. We need goals and Son or Vietto along with Studge and Origi will do the business, along with a new manager, of course

Agree1 Disagree0

07 May 2015 14:02:08
Redohio, do you really think 3 from those 4 would be substantial? If we had all 4 of those mentioned I would go into next season with a fair amount of optimism, a long with a new manager, as you mentioned. I fear though, that BR will still be in charge come August and we will have gone through a totally underwhelming summer!!

What would you do with Sterling? I think the fee we would likely receive would be too much to turn down considering the need for top class players at the club, not 'potentially top class', we have enough of those on the books already.

No matter what happens though, I will still support and love LFC, as we all will. I just hope that we some silverware to play for come April/May 2016 and the seasons that follow!

Agree0 Disagree0

07 May 2015 17:24:02
I'm with you, Chris. BR is the prob and not the players. If he remains which I hope not, then the owners will regret it and I just don't think they will let it happen. I may be wrong but I praying right because I am fed up with him and his incompetence and disgraceful behavior in the media. Our squad is good enuff. They are just are just severely under managed. Like you, I'll be red till I'm dead regardless of who comes and goes because they are employees but the fans remain loyal.

The sooner people realise Liverpool isn't the huge attraction they think it is the better. Why would he join a mid table team that has so many faults it's like a real life version of the old sky 1 programme dream team.

Agree4 Disagree2

07 May 2015 12:05:05
Glad that it happened so soon, maybe it will make people realize that such kind of players are not going to join us. Just hope that some club will buy Lacazette soon, so people will stop asking if he will join LFC.

Agree6 Disagree0

07 May 2015 12:10:27
I would far prefer for us to simply keep Sterling. Depay was only looked at as a potential replacement, if I am not mistaken. We have Ibe, Lallana and Marcovic anyways, not to mention that Origi can play further back as well.
I would much rather a player of the Vietto or Son type, that could play either as a mobile forward or as a second striker. Someone who could play both with and without Sturridge - that is what we so desperately need.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has certainly been making provisions for the departure of Dterling by looking at wide players.}

07 May 2015 12:11:44
It is dissapointing but suppose we need to go onwards. He was always going to go there. Tbh if Sterlings staying i'm not sure were he would of fitted in. This Paul George Ntep geezer looks decent anyhow and i'm sure we will be i'm for multiple players over next few months.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 May 2015 12:16:47
I so much agree to this. Like I said in my previous post. Liverpoolfc are no more attractive to players, even young prospects except for mid table players across Europe which is not what Liverpool needs right now regardless of where we end the season. I think we need a new chapter some with a record that could attract players just like Van Goal is in Man U. YNWA !!

Agree0 Disagree1

07 May 2015 12:30:49
I have a worring feeling BR will be in charge next season and waste more money on the likes of Ntep (who the fudge is he???) and Sheyi Ojo and Ryan Kent who are more than ready for chances in the first team get sent out on pointless loans! Or worse feel like they have no future at the club. It would be CRIMINAL if the likes of Ojo,Kent,Wilson,Sinclair are not first team regulars in a couple of years time.

Agree3 Disagree1

07 May 2015 12:34:14
If we are not attractive as a club to players, I can't understand why so many witch-hunters think we will be attractive to managers if we sack ours.

We won't.

Agree0 Disagree1

07 May 2015 13:05:53
Hey ed02, just to clarify something - you or ed01 mentioned earlier that Son is looked at as an alternative of Vietto (too expensive) - this means that he is not being looked at as an option in case Sterling leaves, but rather as a forward (probably to replace Balo), correct?
From all the targets mentioned thus far, I believe that Son along with a right back if Manquillo leaves is all that we really need. Not even too sure about the need of CM if Lucas stays, though Milner would provide a better option than Allen.
Thanks!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It will be nothing to do with Sterling.}

07 May 2015 13:22:22
Sterling is a good player, but his medium/long range passing isn't great and his shot power and accuracy leaves a lot to be desired. I think 50m is a massive overvaluation.

Ron, when has sacking managers ever stopped other managers from being interested in those very clubs? Have you followed football for the last 20 years? Sacking a manager after 3 unsuccessful years of winning absolutely nothing is called ambition.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 May 2015 13:36:29
We had CL and money this season YET no top signing wanted to come so there lies the issue. We are not an attractive pull mainly because we have failed to make CL for those five years. Consistent CL footie keeps you attractive and competitive and if we can't offer that on a regular basis, we will continue to struggle. As for Depay, he was not a priority because he would be a replacement for Raheem and he is not a striker hence, not needed. We need goals and we must focus our resources on that as well as a RB if Flanno or the others can't make it. As for Ntep, WTF?

Agree0 Disagree0

07 May 2015 16:19:08
Dwarf, you want to get Internet access on your boat and research what happened the last time we sacked a manager.
Quite a few didn't want to come then.
The point is it is clear top players don't consider us an attractive team, so by the same logic why would a top manager see us any differently?

Agree0 Disagree0

07 May 2015 19:33:34
I disagree, Ron. Managers in general belong to a more cultured group of people than players. They tend to care more about the history and culture of a club than shopping for diamonds and ferraris in big cities.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 May 2015 11:08:37
hey ed's and reds,
Just a few things, it would seem that lfc are going to either release or sell around 10 players.
Now after looking at who these players could be you kind of get the idea of what we need.
I would say the priority should be a CF, DCM and a RB. These would all be starting 11 players.
Then we would require another FWD, GK and a LB as backups.
So this leaves me to wonder about the need for a milner type player??
As we have can and Hendo that are similar box to box players, this seems like an odd signing.
As our Need is surely more for a DCM type player!
Also If ings is as close as some say then would it be him plus an inside forward/winger or him plus a CF??
I do like ings but only as a backup CF and due to sturridges problems if ings is second choice then he's basically our number one CF.
I think we currently need a more proven and reliable option for the second choice CF role.
As we seem to be getting linked with a lot of wingers/inside forwards, this would either suggest that we are planning for sterlings departure or looking to play one up top in the 4231 system, if the latter is the case then I would then be sceptical of trying to sign ings as well.
More questions then answers I know but I find our recruitment strategy confusing at the best of times.
Thanks for your time

Personally think we'd benefit from a CF, WF, CM, and back up GK.

CF - If interest in Son is true and attainable would be fantastic, personally higuian would be my choice but not sure if we can afford or attract him - luis adriano could be a great free!

WF - Can only see this happening if sterling or another player goes. Think a naturally wide forward would be a massive boast but have lot of players who currently play this role (even though are more suited centrally) - personal choice Konoplyanka (free)

DM - Need cover for lucas and think hendo/can are much better box to box to aid the attack. Unsure about this as weird role to fill, but kondogbia is my unrealistic choice, apparently kovavic is availbale but not seen much of him, but rumoured

GK - Rumours or Neto etc, but just think we need better back up than jones, but giving Ward a chance would be my choice.

as for RB/LB have plenty on our books and plenty who can cover.

If sterling or someone goes think a perfect summer would be:

Son, Konoplyanka, Kondogbia, and Ward being promoted would be fantastic and make us a great team that can compete.

An unrealistic summer replaces Son with Higuian - a realistic replace son with adriano and kondogbia with kovavic

Believable0 Unbelievable1

I get that, ed2, but why would we let the papers get hold of our interest- as I presume was done by the detail in stories run- if we aren't 100% sure we'll get him?
