I'm having an argument with a Chelsea fan and, like Mourinho, he believes that we are doing so well in the league because of the fact that we have no European football this season. Well, I put it to him and other so called football fans who think the same way. Liverpool is not built for Champions League football because we haven't been in it. It leaves us with a paper thin squad that can just about cope with 1 loss never mind 3/4. Chelsea are supposed to have a squad size that can cope in both competitions, so why are they moaning? They have a big enough squad where they would have 2 different starting 11's without compromising on quality. A luxury that Champions League football affords them, whereas Liverpool does not have that luxury. It boils down to fear and also to try and put undue stress on the squad. I believe the reason why we will win the league this year is not because of no European competition, not because of SaS scoring for fun but because we want it more. Rodgers made us want it more. He has been a revelation. I spoke with a Red Sox fan in the U.S last night and he was telling me that since John Henry took over there, he is considered a GOD. he told me that not only does he invest the money that's needed, he also appoints the correct manager and staff for the job. I believe without John Henry and his appointment of Brendan Rodgers, we would still be languishing near mid-table. He has almost mathematically achieved his target of getting us back into the Champions League withing 3 seasons. Not to get in would mean something has gone horribly wrong. We are on the verge of witnessing a 1st premier league title. Sleeping giant I say. City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Utd (lol) this is where you become afraid. Very afraid. We are Liverpool FC. Who won't want to play for us next season? Can't see an awful lot of Players turning us down and if they do, it will be for money and if that's the case, I wouldn't want them anyway.

Some spaces in between the paragraghs would help mate ;o)

In some ways he is not wrong (your Chelsea fan); more games mean more rotation, chance of injuries etc. etc.

My opinion is you can only beat what's in front of you; also if there is such an advantage why aren't Villa, Newcastle etc. challanging for the title?

The champions league teams have bigger squads to combat the number of games; have more revenue therefore can spend more on wages.

Yes we have less games but we have a smaller squad; that squad is performing to a level greater than expected and Mourinho spends to much time talking than is needed; I used to like him but in honest he bores me now.

Agree0 Disagree0

I do not buy the argument of "You're not in Europe, so it's easier".

You either want to be in the Champions League or you don't. You can't have it both ways. All fans dream every year of being in the Champions league, then when they get in, they complain, absolute madness.

The same applies to us, when we're in the CL next season, we can't go bleating about too many games, harder than anyone else, etc etc. Absolute nonsense - we've been dying to get in the CL for years. More games comes with the territory, simple.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mate Chelsea have 28 players out on loan that is probably a complete full club squad they could put out if Chelsea I think that Mourinho is covering his arse he has probably promised his owner the title and champs league that's why he was allowed back at the club and he is once again using LIVERPOOL FC as his excuse I hope he gets sacked again hate him in are league with his boring football

Agree0 Disagree0

Jimmy`s right. Maureen and his plastic followers are just flapping his gums because he always knew we would be a threat to him since december when we nearly beat or should have drawn w/ them. Haters and bitters alike talk like we had a chance at CL football last year but humbly declined it which makes no damn sense. Its a case of just trying to put pressure on lfc because they know they`re in trouble if they just allow us to sail to the top come May. There`s no pressure on us at all because if we win the league, BR is a legend. If we don`t and walk straight into the CL group stages, then he`s THE football genius because he would hve succeeded in his mission with time ahead of schedule. The haters can`t handle that, I`m afraid.

Yes - hopefully it will benefit us.

Good news for English football. Hope they get battered next round though

Chelsea going through is good for us boys! Hopefully they get an away trip to Barcelona 3days before they play us!
Anyone know why hazard went off? Was his injury serious?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hamstring mate. 2-3 weeks.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hopefully he doesn`t play against us because he`s the ONLY one I`m afraid of in their whole line-up.

Another point on Chelsea, if mourinho us looking two bring in a couple if strikers, and the current ones are going, I'd be happy with ba. Gets next to none game time at Chelsea, not saying he's start for us every game but could lead the line in some games if we have a lot of fixtures! Suarez and Sturridge can't play 50 games next season!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No way! He's not good enough for us Borini is much better and will be back in the summer

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry but ba is better than borini currently! I wouldn't feel comfortable if Sturridge and Suarez were rested and borini was up too alone!

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm with Square Tomato, Borini fits our system more than Ba and I personally think he's the better player regardless.

Agree0 Disagree0

Seriously BA, are you joking? God awful player, no thank you.

Agree0 Disagree0

Conbicks, Borini would be paired with either Sturridge or Suarez, because 1 player can not take the place of 2, as we'd be at a numerical disadvantage.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ba is a rancid player, to spend money on him would be tacit to wilful destruction of our squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

Typical Liverpool fans. Ba is a good player. Doesn't fit our system, but he's certainly NOwhere as bad as some of these statements are suggesting.

Agree0 Disagree0

There isn't much competition in my book. Borini is young and developing. He has a lot of potential - he may become an excellent player given time. To lose / exchange this particularly given our outlay on buying him would be crazy IMO. There are plenty of managers that rate him. Ba - not for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 goals In 59 games for Newcastle, clearly terrible player

Agree0 Disagree0

And how many goals has he scored for Chelsea? He isn't particularly quick, isn't particularly tricky, isn't an outstanding finisher, isn't an outstanding passer, is a good (not great) headerer of the ball - he is mediocre. Papiss Cisse had a good season for Newcastle but look at him now. Demba Ba is not a good player period - name me any other top 6 club who'd buy him? Everton might be the only takers and even then it'd be dependent on them being unable to keep Lukaku. Ba had one good season - that does not make him a good player.

Agree0 Disagree0

So what, Conbicks? His stats at Newcastle don`t mean squat because right now, he can`t get a game to save his life due to being 4th choice behind Eto`o, Schurle, and Torres who wouldn`t get on our bench on current form (apart from maybe Schurle). Must be MOTD fever for Conbicks. Demba Ba is not good enough to warm our bench simply because his style does not suit us, period. I will have Borini and Aspas gladly because they fit what we`re trying to do. Ba can rot on the plastics` bench.

With the possibility of suso, wisdom, texeiera all being integrated into the team next season plus any others(do you have any names that may be added) surely this spells the end of Johnson with wisdom as back up to flanno? I can only see us needing a lb, back up striker and an attacking midfielder and possibly a go.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think you under estimate how good Johnson is and over estimate the current abilities of Wisdom & Flanagan. I'd expect Wisdom to be loaned out again or possibly sold. Right now He's nowhere near good enough in possession.

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought Johnson was done when he had that terrible spell before taking time out to recoup. but he was right, he just needed to recharge his batteries and now he is back. We need Johnson next season none of the players we have right now are better and none that is available to us to buy will be any better.

Agree0 Disagree0

When fit and firing on all cylinders, GJ is the best in the league and he is showing now that he`s fit. He is big, strong, a superb athlete, has pace and can defend throws his body around covering for our CB`s when they are out of position.BTW, This is coming from someone who is his fierce critic.

Agree0 Disagree0

Are you reds hoping Chelsea go through and have big games sandwiched around ours, but risk their confidence being sky high, or hoping they go out and be demoralised?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yh hoping they get through so they are preoccupied during the Liverpool game.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Apr 2014 21:28:04
Me too, plus, I couldn't really care less if Chelsea win the CL, we're not going to win it are we! But we can compete with Chelsea so it would give me faith that we can stand our ground next season in the CL. No harm in them being distracted from the EPL either, I'm more concerned about united's CL campaign to be honest.

Agree0 Disagree0

I know that them getting through is beneficial to us but now I know that when we do wipe the floor with them at Anfield, Mourinho will have his excuse as to why that was.

Agree0 Disagree0

Super - Don't you worry about United and the CL. They are no where near good enough to win it and even if they do, the worst we'll finish is 3rd in the PL, so where safe.

BM will win, the first leg was just another false dawn for Moyes. Back down to earth for him tomorrow.

Eds fellow reds . Just read Micah Richards has turn down new deal with city .snap him up strong powerful defender can play anywhere across back 4 .just let BR have a month with him for confidence reason and he'll be a worldy again .£7 million alday long

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of interest from Liverpool in Micah Richards right now. Given Richards likely price, wages and history of injury problems, I am rather surprised that there is interest still from West Ham, Milan, Galatasaray and Newcastle.}

We only need a LB for defence, Richards isn't good enough and always injured anyway

Agree0 Disagree0

He's not good enough to be a replacement for Johnson or Skrtel and we already have adequate depth at both positions. We need a LB and a winger/wide forward far more than we need yet another RB/RCB.

Agree0 Disagree0

Richards is everything that`s wrong with English football. He thinks he`s better than he actually is which is quite tragic. He`s a very poor defender with very little technical skills and lacks intelligence and positional sense. All these are essential in our system. Pace is no longer the only quality needed to play our brand of football. He should go to the other clubs who will gladly pay his stupid wages and stay well away from ours.

Agree0 Disagree0

I saw him when man city played us in the youth cup years ago and he was by far the best player on the pitch. i'd say if his wages were ok get him in

With all the hoo-har in transfer season about "missing" targets and such shenanigans I notice that Sylvain Marveau (spelling) is rumoured to be going out of Saint Sports James' Park Arena Direct.and van wolfswinkle, whilst having an admirable name, is not exactly rocking Norwich.

Question being, off the players "rumoured" to be connected to LFC, who would win the "glad we dodged THAT bullet" award of the season?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Gotta be van wolfswinkel, has he even scored a goal this season? That's his only job as a striker. put the ball in the net. il take Sas any day lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Lamela given that he has failed spectacularly despite massive hype (and transfer fee).

Agree0 Disagree0

Lamela. just cause he cost 30m ridiculus amount for him

Agree0 Disagree0

Lamela no question, mystery what's happened to him really. For that price. surely it affords an appearance. Wolfswinkel's at least played (not very well mind you). Mitroglu is a mystery for me as well. You'd think he might get a shout while their ships in a downward spiral.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lamela of course! 30 mill, never twigged.

So, in reverse order.

3 van wolfswinkle

2 willian (based on price and that I can't remember us being linked to "Le petite Greek")

1 Lamela

Cheers all

Agree0 Disagree0

Mitroglu has had niggling injuries basically since he moved to Fulham plus they changed manager a week or so after signing him - think in fairness he needs a little more time before he is judged though I doubt Fulhma will see the best of him: if they go down he'll surely leave?

Just uploaded a pic of stevie sporting the new away kit lads, nice! 9th May it's out!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Is this official mate? Where did you see this?

Agree0 Disagree0

My mate got hold if it, he rubs a sports shop, they've all been given the date 9th of May as the launch so no reason to doubt him! Pinky reason I believe it is because stevie swearing it so looks legit to me

Agree0 Disagree0

OMG. It looks really bad, Don't like it at all. I'm confident you haven't heard about this indian supehero called shakthiman. It looks like his suit in black.

Agree0 Disagree0

Luminous green Liverbirds, whatever next? :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Looks photo shopped to me, It's same picture as Stevie modelling this years 3rd kit (Face and pose etc) Hope it's true though, looks nice. Which is another sign it's not real lol

Agree0 Disagree0

So fake it hurts! I you look at the white lines, 2 on the shorts, 2 on the top and the v neck white lines. They're dead straight, despite creases in the shirt and shorts. But yeah it's a shame it's fake, as I love that green haha

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to agree with the lads looks dodgy alright.

Agree0 Disagree0

Looks jarg to me, bad design but wouldn't put anything past Warrior after this years 3rd kit, mind you the away kit isn't much better is it, with that random "design" on the bottom of the shirt.

Hi eds
with Aspas to move in the summer if a decent offer is made and Borini being wanted by sunderland do you see us looking for not a wide one a centre forward or is the plan to play Borini there next year as the third choice forward
2 Am I correct in assuming that Bertrand and rojo are the two players we are looking for at lb or are there any other names
thanks for any replies
P.S still can't believe taker lost ed 002 you a wwe fan?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Both Rojo and Bertrand have been of interest to Liverpool. I would not want to say what will happen at CF. UI have no idea what the last sentence means.}

World wrestling entertainment undertaker the streak wrestlemania 30 still no idea?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I have no knowledge of wrestling and the names are meaningless (I do recall Andre the Giant and the Incredible Hulk). You want Ed007 on the Wrestling page for that.}

Didn't know there was a wrestling page thanks for telling ed

The only worrying thing about City is both teams have been involved in loads of 4, 5, 6-0 etc. Hopefully our defense will be able to keep Aguero and co at bay.
We can take massive heart, everytime we play City we seem to play really well, and come out of the blocks fighting.
I can't see us winning the league without winning this weekend, the boys have played with no fear all season so hopefully that'll continue.

with regards to the players we have out on loan and the players we have on the bench who's likely to b part of our squad next year. I see borini and suso coming back in. assaidi, coates and robinson to leave. moses and cissoko to go back. wisdom, coady and ibe to go on loan. alberto will stay. trying to work the numbers we need in. I see enrique and flanagan battling for left back. a wide forward is maybe all we need? and someone to share the workload with gerrard? what do u think?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

08 Apr 2014 14:13:44
Not with midweek football.
We'll need a left full back, central midfielder and forward, then just depends on departures.

Agree0 Disagree0

For me its suso ofcourse Ilori and wisdom.

Borini has won a lot of praises mainly for scoring goals in big games but if u look at his overall stats he hasn't done too much. 6 goals in total I think for sunderland. Saying that he is someone rodgers really likes so let's see what happens

Assaidi could be a very decent squad player but I don't think he wants that role

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Ibe should be part of the squad next season. If Dani Parejo is the level of player we are looking at for a CM, I rather Suso come back into the squad; he is more versatile and IMO, more effective than Parejo.

I won't be surprised to see Aspas and Alberto leave. BR has on more than 1 occasion mentioned how he was very impressed with Teixeira. I get the feeling Teixeira will be used next season, and we might just cut the loss with Alberto and Aspas.

I think it is clear that Cissokho and Mosses will go back, and I expect the likes of Ngoo, Adorjan, Assaidi, Robinson, Coady, Coates, Roddan, Bijev, Sama, and perhaps Baio to leave.

I do not know what can be achieved by loaning out Wisdom again. He has done well on his loan, but IMO, it is between him and Kelly.

Borini and Ilori, I have no idea. I wonder if the club will loan out Ilori for another season and keep both Agger and Skrtel. Then at the end of next season, when Toure's contract is up, Ilori be bought into the squad.

A LB will have to be bought. I think it might depend on Enrique who we might go for. Enrique has missed pretty much the entire season with injury and therefor there is a good chance that he may be affected with injuries next season. Flanagan will remain a squad RB/LB.

A winger is also a must as when Moses leaves, we will only have Sterling, Coutinho and occasionally Henderson who play out wide. Ibe, if he remains in the squad is the only other natural, albeit inexperienced, option.

Thanks simon pw, I did 2 lengthy replies 2 your texts earlier but I cannot use my alternate reply function, anyway appreciate reply never realised so much was involved so really appreciate it, one question you mentioned 3 players excluding the goalie can play in u21s who are over that age so what happens to all thre other over age players who cannot get game or bench at this time, sorry to b pain:)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

They will be involved in day to day training sessions with the 1st team squad. Usually only dropping to reserve level for match sharpness ala lucas, sakho a couple of weeks ago. Sometimes if time allows they arrange friendlies also for this purpose.
Cup runs and champions league next year will be beneficial for more game time for the whole squad. Winning games and momentum have obviously restricted game time for fringe players this season, but they are a close group and you can see by reactions on the bench etc how much the results are shared. The team obviously needs the remainder of the squad to keep up intensity in training etc.

buys
milner (5-7m)
konoplyanka (12-15)
coentraao(12)
kovacic (8)
and a good cb if agger is sold

sell/loan
aspas
alberto
illori
kelly
coates
reina
agger if a decent offer comes in

what would u guys think of that for transfers?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I very much doubt Milner will want to leave one bench to sit on another.

Agree0 Disagree0

True no ins for cb unless we sell which I don't think we will, only one worth selling is agger but everyone loves him too much.

Skertl always does well on the right side of a center back pairing
Sakho is the future so it Ilori who I think will be part of the squad next season with extra games.

Toure is a very good 4th choice center back, won't get a better (4th) choice replacement for him

What we need is a genuine left back, forget about how he is going forward, I mean a solid in defence lb

Agree0 Disagree0

Buys
ST: muriel (17)
WM: abdulrahman (4.5)
CM: kovacic (8.5)
LB: coentrao(12)
CB: adil rami (8)
back from loan - borini, suso
spending 50m

sell - aspas, coates, reina, agger, robinson, assaidi (30m)
loan - alberto, ilori, kelly, wisdom, teixeira, ibe

net spending 20-25m

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You need to sign in.}

Agger and Skrtel were very good over the last 9 games together, before Sakho came in for the West Ham game, they had 4 clean sheets, 3 goals from Skrtel and all over, they seemed very assured and I don't think it a surprise that we have been on our best run of the season during that period where Agger and Skrtel started together.

Illori and Alberto are both very young and I think Rodgers will be keen to keep the pair at least for another season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Olliesontwo I think agger struggles with bigger forwards(bony, benteke, lukaku). I think sakho is much better overall and the fact agger is going on 30 we should try and get something for him because I don't think he'll start when sakho is fit. He also has large wages

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he would be a quality player! He had so much potential and has just stagnated on city's. Ideal for Rodgers to work his magic!

Agree0 Disagree0

Exactly what I think bacon. He has the build, and Rodgers could work with him I think. He would come knowing it's his last chance at the big time, like sturridge coutinho flanno Henderson etc and look at what Rodgers did with them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rodwell would be great young, powerful and if Rodgers can work wonders with him if he stays injury free which our medical team could do.

Living now in Oz, watching the games live can be tiresome. Not this season though. Over the last few years I've gotten up at 1 or 2 am for maybe 75% of the games. This season though, haven't missed one. On Sunday night I'd just got back from a 5 hr drive and just wanted to sleep all night. I grabbed 2 hours kip and forced myself up for the game as I honestly believe if I watch every game until the end of the season, we will finally win it. We haven't won the league since I left Walton in 1991 and I don't care what hour of the night the game is on, I'll be up biting my nails with the rest of you.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Could have been worse. You could have been dreaming we had Moyle's as the manager!!
vrcomp
Y.N.W.A.

Agree0 Disagree0

That would be a nightmare, not a dream. Can you imagine Suarez wanting to hang around and play the style of footy Man U have been playing? I love that even our worst detractors have been impressed by our play this season. Big hats off to Brendan and co. Let's not forget, this is the same starting outfield 10 as last year, Sakho aside. Now I've just typed that, makes me reflect on our signings since Jan 2013 and I wonder what people's thoughts would be on the players we missed out on. Would Mihky, Kono or Salah have improved us significantly? I know Flanno is doing a decent job, West Ham aside, but apart from LB, what position are we actually weak in? Johnson has his detractors, though I've repeatedly backed him (I admit Downing skinned him shockingly on Sunday, just once), and CB is actually OK when you consider the number of times our attacking play exposes the back four.
Lucas and SG are playing the holding mid well, Hendo is putting himself about, Coutinho can be a bit hot and cold admittedly, and we're running out of superlatives that do SAS justice.
Sorry, enough rambling, better get the dinner on.
5 games and counting, 450 minutes till I crack open the bubbly!

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Apr 2014 05:32:57
Whoa, had a nightmare last night that we had Christian Poulson, Paul Konchesky and Andriy Vorinin in our team, spearheaded by David Ngog! And to make matters worse, the team was managed by none other than the current England manager Roy Hodgson. I had no idea my imagination was capable of such dark thoughts.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

To think that actually wasn't that long ago. Just shows how far we have come and what an top job Brenda has done

Agree0 Disagree0

The joke is Ngog who cost £1m was better than Carroll who cost £35m

Agree0 Disagree0

I especially liked Hodgson's alienation of Agger during his short tenure. Even when it was clear to any observer with even a modicum of eyesight that he was by far our best defender at the club at that time Hodgson still refused to play him. A poor manager by any measure and one who is going to set the England team back a good decade if his reign is extended beyond the world cup.
