The nerve Aquilani has coming out and saying we wanted to much for him. We paid 18mil for this waste and him and his agent took LFC for a ride. This has to be the worst transfer this club has ever made. Nothing but BS from start to finish.

Thank f**k we are rid of this waste.

Worse transfer ever? no, that was Diouff.

I suppose he needs the publicity seeing as he has been pretty much absent from the pitch of late.

Kopping a feel

He is an absolue disgrace. he is just a merchant. after accepting ridiculous wages to spend the time on the sideline, then clearly showing a poor attitude which caused two managers to send him out on loan and then refusing to drop his wage demands so other italian teams wouldn't buy him. if that wasn't bad enough he demanded that liverpool pay him compensation to accommidate his lower wages... now he is saying it was the cllubs fault. the day he left was the best day of this window so far. i'll bet there will still be people on here saying how he should've got his chance once hendo has a poor game.
derryred {Ed049's Note - true}

Without doubt, the worst transfer for us...Rafa was one of our great managers but the Aquilani signing was a sackable offense...

So actually wanting him to attempt to play for us is wanting too much of him...waste of space

Lol even torres said something about his transfer, saying ppl dont know what happened and stuff. i think its kinda normal. they wouldnt want ppl to hate them. and we dont really know what happened (torres, aquilani). but id rather trust the eds, aquilani wanted to leave, torres too.

Kaizer

Aquilani far far worse than diouf. At least he performed in a few games and he cost 6 million less

I can't get my head around some people on here moaning about Brendan Rodgers already! He's been in the job five minutes, inherited a squad that finished 8th (outside the top 4 in the last 3 years) with a wage budget that is within the top 4 or 5 clubs in the league.

So far he's sold Kuyt, Aquilani, Maxi and Fabio Aurelio. They have a combined age of 123. He's letting Bellamy go as well and he's 33. It's blatantly obvious those players had to go before we take on any more, given that's probably reduced the wage bill by about 200-300k a week it makes even more sense.

So first job done. Reduce the wage bill.

Secondly, our best players will always be attracting interest from other clubs. Agger is reportedly attracting interest from Man City and Barcelona, both of which can easily afford to pay £20m plus for him and that's his value to Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool as a minimum. By the next transfer window he'll be 28 so if we are to maximise our money on Agger we have to seriously consider selling him now. Rodgers is only saying what is true, realistic and good for the club. Carroll is another player that realistically we can easily afford to sell if the right price is offered for him. Even if we had only signed him for £20m there is no getting away from the fact he's underperformed since arriving here. I think that £20m is his top end market value, now and when we overpaid for him. So if someone comes in with the right offer it makes sense to sell him despite the fact I think he could still hit top class form again.

Next on the list; Brendan Rodgers has tied down our best player to a long term contract. I don't hear the whingers praising this great move for LFC?

On the subject of his signings so far he's signed a kid for the youth team and he's bought Fabio Borini, a player that for £10m represents a low risk, known quantity for Rodgers. Borini understands the way Rodgers wants his teams to play and has a good scoring record, especially at just 21 years of age. He's scored 15 goals in 37 league matches so far. That's incredible for £10m. One goal in every 2.5 games roughly.

Finally he's blooded lots of youth players in the pre-season and won his only competitive match without conceding, away in Belarus against a team that was 15 games into their season already, with hardly any time to evaluate his players.

Not a bad start at all in my opinion.

Allen for £15m. I will like to see Ramirez 1st in that price.

Why has everyone got such a hard on for ramirez? and affellay, neither of them has consistently performed in their respective careers so far, you know if you whine on about them enough it doesn't mean we'll be signing them?

So agger has got a new tattoo on his right hand knuckles inked as YNWA and has told the club he never wants to leave. That's loyalty right there and damn I respect that.

I understand his injury problems but anger and skrtel, clearly one of the strongest defences in the prem! I'd hate to see him go.

Well skrtel does have anger problems sometimes.

He-who-should-never-have-been-transferred (I refuse to say his name again) should have said 'Liverpool paid way too much for me as I'm a whiny little git'.

Hope someday we play Fiorentina in European competition and he gets absolutely clattered.

Thanks

Just been listening to talksport, where bobby gould claims to have heard from a good source that joe allen will sign for man utd?

Change the 'sport' bit for 'a load of nonsense' and then wonder why you ever listen to it in the first place.

There's only one 'sauce' that Bobby Gould likes.

The red one and it ain't ketchup!

Phooey... Glug

Hi eds from the latest news from Macca do you think that there could be a cash + tello bid for agger ? Agger is a great play would hate to see him go but something like 20 million and tello would be a great piece of business and then going for godin to replace agger thoughts on this eds or anyone ?

Red man {Ed002's Note - Don't know if that is an option.}

08 Aug 2012 22:21:12
I am not ITK. I am a simple man who loves LFC more than anything in life. On this site, I completely believe in Macca updates. I was yesterday sad to read his post when updated about Agger.

It is interesting to observe something in BR, which I had not seen previously in managers of LFC. Usually we would surrender at any price offered but the way he has priced Agger at 30m, it seems BR is very shrewd. His message is clear - I want Aggger to stay in the team, but if you really want him , you have to cough up 30m which I dont think Mancini or anyone will pay for a defender who is 27 and injury prone, no matter how much money they have.

lets take a look at Carroll situation now. Newcastle offer 12m, he say price is 20m. West Ham offer 2m loan and 17m next year. He sticks to 20m not allowing the transfer to happen.

In both interviews, he indirectly mentioned, that every player has a pric but here is a catch - I, BR, will decide the price and not you or any sheikh in the middle east. This to me seems extremely great and positive news.

All summer long, the media has been selling Liverpool players to every tom dick and harry clubs in the world. Almost everyday, a member from the teams core is sold or linked to be sold disturbing us fans and disrupting the managers peace. So, BR prepares himself with the WTF scenario and starts to please them by saying things they want to hear.

If I had to believe the media, then Suarez would have been on a plane to Juventus yesterday and not in Melwood signing the contract. Did the media ever mention the target Tello or Sahin with Liverpool? Only after Macca posted it here, has the media flooded with the headlines - LIVERPOOL AND ARSENAL TO BATTLE HEAD TO HEAD FOR SAHIN.

Shocking aint it.

Indirectly, BR is simply pleasing the media by giving them what they want but retaining what he wants.
I had my doubts about BR fitting in the LFC manager role, after the fiasco that was RH. However, he seems shrewd for his age to handle the media.

I hope he can bring us back to where we belong.

Finally, u can ignore what I have written above, but I am one of the most optimistic LFC fan ever who always looks at the positives.

mgz

Very extremely great oh bloody hell

Question for Ed's and fans alike, where do you think the goals are going to come from this year as we were badly let down by the current team in front of goal last year?

Borini and Luis.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

This is why Dempsey would have been a good addition; just because he's not 'young', it doesn't mean he can't be bought and sometimes experience is required- he would be a short-term answer, yes, but that's not always a bad thing and it could provide us with a much needed boost. I don't know much about Borini, and as amazing as Suarez is, we all know he's not the best scorer in the world, and nor do we expect him to be- he's more of a creator. If Bellamy and Carroll goes then we'll need replacements, and hopefully we bring in clinical goalscorers. We also require some pace and creativity, and I'm concerned that our midfield lacks goals.

I know things are looking bad for LFC but on the bright ain't like shelvey or spearing are leaving with those two bright talents i can see LFC staying up another season.....I think

Hotspud009

To improve the squad to the point where our goal scoring problems are fixed and to allow Brendan Rodgers to implement his playing style so in the 2014/2015 season, we can once again become a top four team every season.

Allen is a waste of money.Lucas does the same job.

This is a very naive comment based on nothing more than a simplified knowledge of football most probably acquired from FIFA 12 Career Mode.

BR wants another player like Lucas. But someone who can pass it better and if you go by stats. Allen is one of the best passers in Europe.

A midfield 3 of Allen, Lucas and Gerrard looks a very good midfield indeed.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

And if Lucas gets injured........?

Well for wat ive heard he is one of the top passers in europe up until january then no1 has any info on him hel be good tho imo

Eds, If anyone has any information about my questions I would be grateful. Any regular posters who may have info it would be appreciated.

1. Glen Johnson - He was the most linked away player at the beginning of the summer but it has gone quiet. Is he still likely to leave?

2. If Glen Johnson leaves for the reported 16M he could be replaced by Gregory van der Wiel 7/8M and we could also pick up Aly Cissokho 9M for competition with Jose Enrique for the LB starting spot. So his move could just about pay for the two players who are both linked with a move away from Ajax and Lyon respectively.

3. Is there active interest in Aly Cissokho or Gregory van der Wiel from LFC?

4. Also I really like Yuto Nagatomo from Inter is there any chance for LFC?

The reason I am asking these question's is what we are lacking in the attacking third is being blamed on the front three but a lot of it is the lack of width being provided by Johnson and Enrique. I think Enrique would not mind fighting for his spot but Johnson won't and if I am correct Ed001 stated that Johnson had a clause in his contact stating that he always got to start as a RB if he was healthy.

Thanks,

Coley

I think johnson is perfect for BR style of play. he loves to bomb foward. id hate to see him leave

Johnson is well capable of pushing on and has proved so on numerous occasions.Enrique generally played behind Downing last season so did not need to.Everyone knows we need Walcott and Sterling on the right and Downing needs to sort his s**t out on the left.Problem solved, question answered !! B

I do like Johnson I am not saying that I don't but for the assertion that he is what is required going forward I am not sure that is the case. He does like getting forward sometimes to much but he cannot cross at all. He can crash the box and scores every once in awhile but again he does not provide width. He has good pace but he does not have good burst speed required to take it up the line. Those that I mentioned do have that burst speed and their purchase price and pay would equal Johnson's and all three are young. Seems like a better deal all around to me.

Coley

We all know about Johnson's ability when he goes up field but isn't a fullback supposed to be able to defend?

Rumours of interest in walcott are very true as Macca said last night but he is seen as a target only if deals for tello, affelay or ramirez materialise. AJ is not at all a target for us, this is certain! Still many players to leave by transfer and loans.

Would Tony Barrett be a reliable sorce would you think Ed? He was claimed in this article (just published) that Liverpool have triggered the £15M release clause in Joe Allen's contract.

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea. Sorry.}

Tony barrett has good connections and has been right about things in the past i.e. Rodgers.

Is that the same Tony Barrett who said we have to 'sell to buy'? If he's right about Allen we will have spent nearly 30 mill and haven't sold anyone.

So on this release clause business- I know the Ed's don't seem to put a lot of stock in them (I think rightfully so), but isn't a £15M release clause for a very young midfielder in the Championship awfully high (since this contract was I think signed a few years back)? That just seems like a lot more than I would have expected considering it isn't much less than Swansea's wage bill for an entire season...

Blair we've sold Kuyt, Aquilani so far. {Ed019's Note -

Would be great to see Agger and Skrtel follow Suarez and signe new contarct extension.

Then bring in Walcott, keep Carroll and bring in another striker. I dont know a great deal about Allen, though we have more thank enough cover in that position, but if BR thinks hell add that bit diffrent and extra then who am i to question. I just feel that money could be spent else where on the team.

I know an ex liverpool youth coach and he still hears rumours and talks to ex colleagues. He always lets me know whenever he hears anything, this is what he's told me.....

Agger - will be sold if 25m price is met, due to his injuries they dont think he has more than a couple of good seasons left in him, he seems to believe Rodgers wants to keep Agger but may be forced into selling.

Allen - Swansea still trying to haggle over price we have offered just below 15m but they want more.

Dempsey - Deal all but off Fulham asking price too high, however he thinks they will drop their price when they realise nobody will pay it

Sahin - He is being looked at as a loan deal with an option to buy

Amorebeita - Will be a replacement if Skrtel leaves which he thinks may still happen

He also thinks Jay Spearing will be leaving and the club are trying to sell Adam and Downing but they will not likely recieve an acceptable offer for those 2.

Tello - He thinks this will not be a loan deal Liverpool want this as a permanent deal either part of the Agger deal or 6m straight up

Also been told with Rodgers links with Mourinho he has asked about the availability of 2 or 3 players on loan an he told me he was told there might be a few suprises who these loan names are. Just passing on what I've heard great site.

It was Fenway who paid 23 million for him in the first place, doesnt that deserve some recognition?

I think he's alright, but I'd personally much rather have Dempsey for about the same price (if not cheaper and on less wages).

Yep , I simply do not want Adam Johnson to sign for LFC .

EdWood

Think Adam Johnson would be a good addition. He's versatile, got pace, a great left foot and he can score and create goals. What I like about him is he is always looking to find a way to go forward towards goal, had Downing had half this lads confidence, he'd be some player.

However it will come down to how much Man City will want for him, £12m I think would be a fair price, but Man City would probably demand a lot more.

RedSG

Yet Downing still got selected ahead of him for the euros...

Not a rumour ed's! But just a little congratulations to dirk kuyt, scored 2 tonight in champions league qualifiers, just a little reminder of the player we need to replace! So come on brendan, and ian ayre , start buying or loaning new players, time is ticking! Y..N..W..A! Herbie:Hyde

Let's buy him back for £20 mil then hey!!

I believe Borini will be a great replacement for Dirk...and fair play to Fenerbahce who got him on the cheap

FSG need to spend big and get the club back in the top four! We need some stars in the team! We still haven't replaced mascherano and alonso two star midfielders now we have Henderson and Shelvey yeah there good prospects but we need players now not for the future I'm beginning to get worried I go to anfield week in week out also go away often and I think we have been poorer and poorer season by season. All the top teams are getting stronger and were going gettin worse. Seriously lacking in quality at present lets hope we get some amazing additions in the upcoming weeks! If not I'm afraid we are a mid table side.

And where would the money to "spend big" come from precisely?

Better owners {Ed002's Note - MAybe you should be thankful as having decnt owners, some clubs don't.}

Pretty sure we have a better player than Mascherano playing that position, anyone heard of Lucas Leiva?

Red Raw

Yea ware would the money come from . I mean FSG must be broke they only bought a few sports clubs one of which being one of the most successful football clubs in the world , then went on to spend money on players for that club ,Whilst also running news and TV networks and securing heavy investment -clearly they don't have a penny to scratch there ass with you doughnut
CrAsH

Gerrard Allen and Lucas in a mid 3 this season. I'm happy with that and time will tell don't be so pessimistic.

Better owners or richer owners? One does not equal the other. Certainly some other clubs may have richer owners comparatively, but ours are just fine with me.

Also, I still can't figure out where these mythical ultra-wealthy wanna-be LFC owners are. Is there like a queue of them outside Anfield and JWH and crew are ignoring them?

CrAsH- never said they were broke, but they certainly aren't likely to throw £50M+ (i.e. "big money") out the door on transfers in either.

Until the club is profitable (or at least much closer to it), don't expect "big money" to come in- first they have to stem the losses they are already paying for and correct the clubs finances. Right now the owners "big money" can't be spent on players because it's being spent on simply keeping the club running.

As most of us will know, being a ˜fan' isn't all about success. It's about loyalty and support. Real fans support their team whether they win, draw or lose and not just the first one. Real fans try to remain positive in the darkest of days. Real fans are realistic and do not expect instant success. Real fans realise that the manager and players are only human and therefore make mistakes, like we do. I could go on all day, but most of us need no explanation.

Sadly though, as with every big club, you find that there are a few ˜fans' who are somewhat out of touch with the real world. These so called fans support their team when they win and complain when they lose or draw. They are quick to celebrate victories but twice as quick to criticize when the team drops points. They think it's acceptable to slate their own players, boo them off the pitch and create a negative atmosphere and then complain that their negativity hasn't helped the team become positive. These so called ˜fans' also expect instant success in everything and do not understand the meaning of the word ˜patience.'

(Pasted from this is anfiled)
I have never copied and pasted before but feel we need to take a check on what our team means to us.

Instant success??Do you realise when we last won the Title-Our bread and butter as it WAS known

I agree so if 'real fans' do not expect instant success, why didn't they give Kenny more time.

Its about being a fan of Liverpool FC be they in the prem or the Championship.
People make mistakes but what shouldnt be mistaken is your love for the club.

We have a go at players for being all about money then we whine that Bellamy is willing to take a pay cut to finish his career at a team he loves, yes we will lose a great player but its a decision I respect in these days of Football = Money and I doubt we'll see something similar for a while -McMenemy

He's a good bloke at heart, just a mouthy get on the pitch.

We did the same for Kuyt and Rodriguez as well.
Finally our club is being run like it used to be. Being decent and respectful to players who have served us well leads to a good reputation which attracts more players.
I am well exicited about Liverpool at the moment.
Brendan's press conference was brilliant.

Reports surfacing that ManCity is giving up on Agger due to the excessive valuation and turning their attention to one of Agger's supposed replacements at LFC, Simon Kjaer.
Any further news on Agger to Barca or Skrtel to City or Italy?

Teams such as city and chelski have inflated the market beyond reason so they can't moan when they get quoted silly prices, they've set there own president.

I hope ManCity do get Kjaer...their fans would not be pleased

Is anyone watching the Barca-Man U friendly? They're being taken to the cleaners by Barca, it's so funny to watch when they can't get out of their own half.

What station is it on?

I'm watching it on Wiziwig,

Is that on mutv?? Why have u got that??

Lol what's the score?

Nice dive by Nani in the box before half time. Seriously don't think Tello even touched him.

Why are we entertaining offers for Agger - total madness, what message does that send out?

Hessle Red

Rogers has admitted he will sell agger if the price is right

The message that averaging less than 28 games a season (1/4 of all PL games) makes you dispensable especially if someone will pay £20M for your services. I love Agger he's been a fantastic to watch but we've had 7 seasons off him, we've won one trophy in that time he's not going to be the difference this season!

That we care about our long term success and that no one player is bigger than the teams overall best interests?

Can we sell Rodgers, if the price is right ?

I am sure Rodgers would be the first to agree that he has a price as well. As does the club overall.

afternoon fans, eds.
Watched Br interview...didnt really take much in, was too busy wondering if br has had his nose straightened....?

The way he bigged up Suarez, compared to how he answered questions about Andy carroll..... just even when he started with a hesitant pause. I think its safe to say, along with Macca and eds, he will not be a lfc player next season. Im happy to get rid personally, hes been extremely lazy through his time at lfc, untill booed of by newcastle fans.

Since then, yes ill agree, he has been a handfull and played quite well, but for me, that doesnt make up for the amount of hair ive pulled out watching him for the other 17 months hes been here.

Benny baller

Hopefully Andy Carroll will stay - he adds another dimension to a team, and if BR is as good as his CV, then he can turn him into a real player.

John B

If he can turn him into a real player...why cant he turn spearing into one?

Carroll doesnt want to work hard and learn. If we are going on basis of being trained well, keep spearing, would give 150% and take everything on board.

Benny baller

Think we rather need to focus more on this dimension rather than worry about another one. Square pegs, round holes and all that.

U can't turn someone into something there not, he doesn't have the attributes and the mobility to be the type of player he wants. And if ur suggesting that we should have a£35 mil player as a plan B then u seriously need ur head testing.

08 Aug 2012 19:44:13
ed i know the name of the site gives it away rumours but what is really going on at lfc do u know we are selling good players talking of bringing in 28 yr old players and all these loan deals are we not big enough to command respect when we ask about someone that they would love to play for us anymore is there going to be any big names or just the run of the mill guys?

Good players?

08 Aug 2012 19:32:37
Oh and some1 posted the other day that Coates had a great left peg. I disagreed and said he was right footed. Some1 else shot me down but I've checked and he is 100% right footed, a good example was his goal vs qpr!
Jason

Yep cos no player in the world can play with both feet

100% right footed? How does he stand when he is kicking?

Andy K

No said he has only 1 foot! Just that he is right footed. It's a very commonly recognised term that means: one who plays sports with their right foot in preference to, or more skillfully than their left.

If i said someone was right handed would u assume i meant he did not have a left hand?
Jason

No, '100% right-footed' means that he only has right feet. He probably could stand up and kick at the same time, but he wouldn't be much of a dancer!

Is it just me or does any1 else not really rate tello that highly? I must admit I have only seen him in cameos in about 6-7 games, but he doesnt really impress me. He seems to come in when barca are like 3 goals up and slot in a simple 4th. Can any1 tell me a bit more about him?

Jason

Have a look at his profile on player-profiles.co.uk should tell you a bit about him!
Skurks

Yep. He is better than downing.
Tommy.

Barcelona will definately want a by back Claus in any deal, that should speak for itself about his potential.

Im better than downing

In all fairness did they not want a buy back clause for Romeu and Bojan- neither of which are great players.

Out:
Aurelio- Free
Maxi- Free
Kuyt- £1m
Agger- £22m
Bellamy- Free
Adam- £6m
Spearing- £3m
Carroll- £20m

Overall: £52m

In:

Borini- £10m
Godin -£11m
A.Johnson- £14m
Higuain- £24m
Sahin- loan
Tello- loan

Total: £59m

Net spend: £4m

I think everything there is feasable; and all of the prices are realistic. Would be a class team next season if this happened. What do you think eds? Would you say it was realistic?

Thanks guys! {Ed002's Note - No.}

Higuain is a long shot plus is aj worth that.

I think you could definitely get Borini for the £10m. You might get 67% of Higuain for £24m, just make sure both his legs are included in the deal.

SpudRed

Let's hope your choise of player is better than your arithmatic. I think I'll leave it to BR.

dont get me wrong i love that suarez is on a new contract..
but i thought we where trying to trim the wage bill... in the new contract we have trebled his wages from £40k to £120k...

Your point being? Were not having bitching sessions on economics now are we? Suarez on new contract thats fantastic, leave the finances to FSG

Yes but the idea is to get high earners that don't deserve it off the wage bill ie aqualini

He's worth every penny of it though, as he is a world class player. It's the high wages for the likes of Aquilani, Aurelio etc that was the problem.

Kev.

Wow, he was on 40k? thats not much compared to other players of his quality

A player like Cole. or Aquilani or Aurelio that never produces or is always out injured earns too much, not the only star we have left you tool

Dude suarez deserve it more than some of our players like joe cole he world class man

Suarez was on 40k only before this? Either way he is one of our world class players so deserves it imo

Ska-oop

Is it a fact that his wages have been trebled? I know a few papers have made that claim but I've got to the point were I really dont believe anything I read unless it comes from the club itself...oh and while I dont suggest over paying players Suarez is a top draw forward so why wouldn't he be on top draw money?

Bazingaa

1. So you believe the daily mirror?
2. If Carroll is on 60k there is no way Suarez was on 40k..
3. Suarez is easily worth every penny do you know how hard it is for us to get players of his quality now, if that's the price we pay for not losing him who cares that's FSG's problem not ours

As FSG have previously demonstrated at the Red Sox; you will get a market value weighted contract based on your quality and experience when signed. And if you prove to be a top class player then you will get a suitable raise.

They have no problem paying market value and rewarding the best players with high level wages. They just won't stand for overpaying underachievers, overage non-contributing squad members or unproven quality.

SpudRed

Such as

kyut
aurelio
aqulani
maxi

thats why we said cherioooooooo

Suarez was on 70 or 80k a week

08 Aug 2012 19:17:38
You lot moaning on about the prices of certain players, ie Allen and Dempsey. Just remember one thing, a player is only worth what any club are willing to pay for their services!! Players don't demand transfer fee's, the clubs do

How about we all get on with supporting the manager and club, and players old and new

ReDDaZ

That isn't the case all the time as last years signings beg to differ my friend.

Hi eds from the latest news from Macca do you think that there could be a cash + tello bid for agger ? Agger is a great play would hate to see him go but something like 20 million and tello would be a great piece of business and then going for godin to replace agger thoughts on this eds or anyone ?

Red man

08 Aug 2012 19:17:06
If Agger is sold I would be gutted, he is one of my most favorite players. It's like the Alonso saga all over again. I remember people sayin if we get 30mil+ for a CDM it would be good business and Milner would be great replacement. To this day we don't have a proper replacement (Lucas was more of a replacement for mascherano). In the end we didn't even get Milner. Now those same people criticize the club for selling him. Players like Agger who love the club and are world class are rare to find, yet a lot of people here seems really eager to sell him off for the money (and yet people are always posting how we should get behind our players). Last season when he was fit we had the best defensive record. He compliments Skrtel really well and if he were to leave Skrtel would have to take up the leadership role in defense cause Carra be retiring soon and we have a hard time finding to a CB who would have a good understanding with his partner immediately. I get the fact that he is injured a lot but people should take note of when he plays we tend to win. I think by selling him we are losing more than gaining. I don't know if it's BR/FSG who wants to sell but I am strictly against it. If there was a petition to keep him in the club I definitely would sign it.

SSRed

Could not agree more mate

I agree with everything you say but look at it from the club's point of view.
20 million for someone who if fit is by far our best defender but is not fit often enough.
Probably on 80 grand a week thereabouts.
Is that money well spent?
I love Agger too but we could actually get 20 million for him and promote Coates?Kelly?Wilson?Sama or Wisdom and then spend 20 million on a player.
Bottom line for me is that only Reina, Gerrard,Suarez and Lucas are irreplaceable for me.....
jonnybarnes89-90

Well I have to disagree with u there jonnybarnes. Everytime a player leaves or is sold we say that we will replace him with someone from the youth ranks or someone younger and cheaper and invest the money somewhere else. But when was the last time that happened.
Remember when risse left and everyone was saying dossena would step it up and then what happened. He left then we got konchesky and now finally we have enrique but he seems to have lost his form. The bottom line is we should keep hold of our best players like tottenham's owner has done. That guy asks for unrealistic amounts for his best players and look where they are now. 2 seasons ago Modric might have been 10-20mil at most but since spurs had 2 good seasons (thanks to players like modric) they can sell modric for 35-40mil easily. I am not sayin Agger's price will rise in the future cause it wont but keepin hold of your best players pays in the long run one way or the other. Hope u read this, would like to know ur thoughts.

Everyone has the right to an opinion fella.
All I am saying is that Agger whilst being a very good player is not irreplaceable.
And the youth set up has shown we are heading in the right direction with players like spearing, kelly, etc
starting to come through the ranks.

i have it on good authority that ramirez and/or sahin will be joining spurs by the end of the week. Sad for us.

Vish

You might be right, it takes us a ridiculous amount of time to sign players. It's no wonder they go to other clubs.

Yeah spurs are going to play 3-6-1 just what they need more midfielders They've got more than us.

Well, Sahin already turned them down once. They tried get him + cash in exchange for Modric and he said no.

There are other players available who are just as good, if not better...

Even tho hes injured alot i will be gutted if agger goes...
Not just because hes pure class but also i feel hes one of the players that genuinly loves the club an plays for the shirt...
Hope we can pull off the transfers mentioned by Macca would have a very strong squad with back up for all areas..
Rickblfc...
Ps lay off fsg and the eds :) happy days are on the horizon.

Exactly..its not about injuries...he loves our club more than anyone....cant loose loyalty..and cant buy it....
dont sell him plss..
we need money...so do i, u and everyone...doesnt mean we sell our dear ones..

{Ed022's Note - There has been a brand new Player Profile posted on none other than Fernando Amorebieta of Athletic Bilbao. This profile pretty much sums up Amorebieta, and I'm pretty sure compares both Agger and Amorebieta for you to cast your own judgments etc. Feel free to come on over to the site and drop a comment or two with your own thoughts - whether it be regarding Amorebieta, Agger or just Liverpools transfer dealings with this scenario. - www.player-profiles.co.uk - thanks all.}

Pretty sure only 1 player from 1 club can sign on loan to another club at any one time..

Didn't West Ham sign Tevez and Masch from Corinthians on loan initially? There were 3rd party ownership issues but I think its possible to get 2 players from a team on loan...

I see people are having a do at rodgers over bellemy going.

Look bellemy must be on 60k a week plus , and even though he is a good player. You can't say that he will play every game

So he doesn't really represent good value for money does he .....

I thought Bellemy was leaving cuz he wanted to be closer to family..or at least thats what I thought Rodgers was suggesting in his press conference today, doesn't really have anything to do with money or how many games he'll get.

Just noticed big AC not in the squad for the 2nd leg tomorow, this clearly proves he's moving, he's fit and been training i've seen the pictures on the official LFC obviously moving too someone playing in europe e.g. the toon. Also Dagger is in the squad, so if he plays then he will be cup tied and surely Citeh and Barce wont want too sign him if cup tied, maybe to prize them away? also ED's with Dagger being in the squad, does that make him cup tied or does he have to feature in the game i'm not sure on that rule? {Ed002's Note - It depends where he moves to and what the result is tomorrow whether he is cup tied or not.}

Where do people see the squad?

Where is the squad listed?

Eds and Reds,

There is a video on the LFC website of BR's conference this morning.

I must say this guy is very impressive. Every time I hear him speak I am in awe of his knowledge and professionalism.

Great Pick and will send us forwards.

JTR

Did u jus write down what gerrard previously saip and post it in to sound good

You clown, he is a professional manager in the prem, every manager in the prem has a knowledge and professionalism of the game but because he is the manager of liverpool you probally think he as more ha ha ha ha tainted windows or what.

I disagree with the rude guy(clown...i'm not calling him one thats just the word he used) that replied to this post...I've been very impressed with the way Rodgers has handled himself in the media...Kenny is a legend but last year I cringed a few times watching him and he definately wasn't the worst in the league

Im getting impatient! Another day gone and no one through the door. Here's hoping this mad flurry of activity materialises! Rodgers right, Thiago Silva's transfer few should be a benchmark for Aggers. Nuri Sahin and Tello will be bargains if Rodgers can pull them off, whilst Ramirez would prove good value. If we sell Agger we may as well sell Skrtel too, as Agger gets the best out of him. He'll come unstuck without him. Sakho, Godin, Amorebieta, Mbwiwa should be the calibre of players we are looking at, not Ashley Williams! In face, I sincerely hope Liverpool don't sign ANY Swansea players in the window.

I'd be gutted if agger left but Brendan sees adam Johnson as part of the deal and feels he can get a agger replacement. Ideal situation we just keep agger and buy AJ.

Danny Agger will not go to City!

08 Aug 2012 18:16:45
Rodgers is laying down the law to all the players, if they don't play ball with what he expects then they can go.
It's about time we had someone with the nerve to question their allegiance (spelling)

This next season will be the start of the manager running the club and not some players pulling strings and upsetting the squad.

Been told Liverpool will have a transfer target at anfield tomorrow to watch the Gomel Game, Not sure who but he will be present at the game with the intention of ironing out the deal late this week/early next.

The WiseRigglet

It will be joe allen me thinks

Joe Allen - maybe even Alonso just to tease

Agger maybe away? Linked with Williams from Swansea to go with Allen,Sinclair, and god knows who else!! Swansea moving to merseyside? Look where they finished last season. YNWA

What 5-points behind out multi-million costing squad?

Let's put it another way, if you put Suarez, Agger, Gerrard and Lucas into last years Swansea team, how much closer would they have been to the top teams?

JRG

Yeah a couple of points off liverpool

Linked to Williams by who? Oh yes, the papers. Do you believe everything you read then? And we haven't even been linked to Sinclair so don't know where you got that from.

JRG spot on again! Wonder if any of those slating Swansea were at anfield last season when we played them? There is a reason why we gave them a standing ovation

Hi Eds n Reds,

With Mike Marsh being promoted from Youth Team to First Team Coach, does anyone think we are running the risk of losing Rodolfo Borrell?

Could it be seen as a bit of a slap in the face by RB, considering Marsh was appointed to replace him when he was promoted to Reserve Team from the Youth setup himself?

I recently read an interview with him and he seems like an ambitious coach who wants to be working with senior, first team players. Brendan may have dropped a clanger there (unless he has other plans for Rodolfo, or just doesnt rate him of course)?

Whats the crack?

Thanks

Red G {Ed052's Note - I doubt it - I personally think he is one of the best youth coaches, so will stay in his current position}

Am I the only one bothered that until now only Borini has signed. Kuyt, Maxi and now (thankfully) Acquaman now gone To all accounts Bellamy is going and we could still lose Agger and maybe even Carroll. Rumours and more rumours are fine but come on LFC pull your finger out or we will slip even further behind due to squad being paper thin!!

Hi, Eds. twitter claims that we're in final stages of signing a player from Italy. Is it true, do you know who it is?
Ratan {Ed052's Note - Well if Twitter says so....}

I think twitter is a bit behind , we already signed him few weeks ago ..
Roy

It is an old news. We have already signed a player from Italy. His name is Borini.

08 Aug 2012 17:16:50 {Ed052's Note - Person wanting to play Fifa - maybe the Video Games website would be better - please check it out - a fantastic site.}

Wah wah. I don't understand why we haven't signed a shed load of players yet. All BR has to do is pull up the transfer list window, hit the Triangle button for a search box, stick in the name of some super player and stick in whatever bid needed. We'll have him in the squad and scoring goals by the next game phase. Easy. or whatever.

When did we get so many plastic and negative fans?

SpudRed

But we haven't signed anyone...being realistic makes fans plastic now. If you enjoyed last season then what does that say about you. Liverpool should be about discipline and success on top of heart. We all want the best out of our club and in our current position would you blame the fact that their may be some impatience. Stop being naive and ignorant and read instead of getting involved with the big boys.

Realistic? I'd have thought that would be allowing a new manager to wait and get his full squad assembled, figure out what players he needed now to implement his plans and then move for his targets. He's had his full squad minus Suarez for a little over a week in training. During that weeks time, those a little more ITK than us have come out and said we are looking to sign 5 more players (in addition to Borini) and a major loan signing.

So, we haven't signed anyone yet but we intend too and we are certainly trying to.

We're a little over half way thru the transfer window. We've off loaded some aging players and made room in the wage bill for new players. So, yes, I consider it impatient to be slating the new manager and FSG for not signing anyone yet.

I, personally, will be glad to slate them if they haven't done some serious business in the next week but until then, because I both read and understand both the needs and the realistic situation, I am content to give BR and FSG a chance to show me what their intentions are before I judge.

Hi eds please post in the rumour section

Just to clear a few things up Liverpool are not going in for van Persie even if he did see us as a better prospect than arsenal which he dose not even Liverpool would not pay his stupid wage demands

Walcott is and has for some time been looked at by Liverpool nothing more if however arsenals valuation was met he would be sold as my source has it if Chelsea lose out on Moses then they are the favourites to land the winger

Sturridge is not for sale but like wallcott if a suitable offer comes in he will be allowed to leave just my personal opinion but I see totenham as his likely destination

Llorente is a player Liverpool have looked at but with both Manchester clubs looming the lure of champions league football would be a better option for the striker perhaps if he is still available In January and has still not renewed his contract we may tempt him with a large sighn on fee and wages

Adam Johnson is available at the right price however he would command high wages as he already does at city this however does give us a slight advantage as we are soft enough to pay people stupid wages (cough aquilani cough)

Agger may very well be sold and although a good player his inconsistent fitness is a troubling matter for both manager and owner speaking as a Liverpool fan I would not worry if he goes there are a lot of center backs out there that are as good as agger but would be available for a smaller fee than what we would receive for him

Carroll is most likely off if you really need me to go in to this one you have been in a koma for the last 3 weeks

And finally gaston Ramirez really I'm not going to say much we have made an offer it was not enough my source has told me there is another offer being prepared did not tell me how much but did tell me it was less than the 16 mil they want if you need anymore info than this really use the search function he has been covered so many times I almost typed in gaston-Ramirez-rumours
Before

Hope this helps thanks for the great site eds JFT96

And i think youve been in a coma* if you think liverpool are still gona pay rediculously high wages

First of all I'd like to thank you Ed's for the information and keeping us LFC fans in the loop!

secondly while I respect everyones right to an opinion be it positive or negative i feel that some people expectations on transfers are pretty stupid, it ain't as simple as FIFA for Christs sake they take time. And for some who dismiss all our signings I swear if we got Honda you'd want alonso, got alonso youd want messi, get behind the team and don't worry, there is still plenty of time for transfers!

YNWA {Ed052's Note - Welcome. True.}

08 Aug 2012 17:06:21
Let's be honest, selling Agger for £20m+ isn't exactly a bad thing. Yes he is an exceptionally good player but he's far too injury prone, of all the games he could have possibly played in during his time here he has only played in around 47% of those. If we were to sell him to City for £23m (apparently what we are asking for) plus Adam Johnson on loan, we could use the money to fund moves for Ramirez and Walcott (two of Rodgers top targets supposedly), plus maybe a replacement CB although with Carragher, Coates and Kelly in the team, I don't think it's absolutely necessary. Rodgers has the club's best interests at heart, he knows what he's doing.

Carragher? are you having a laugh? he has to be put out to pasture, his days(like his legs), are gone, he isn't like Hyypia who had the first yards in his head, if we are left with Skrtl, Carragher and Coates we will concede shed loads of goals and bearing in mind we are as potent as a eunuch up front it's not boding well.

08 Aug 2012 17:04:09
Daniel Agger has made 170 appearances in 6 years average of 28 games per season and in that time we have won 1 League cup. This is how BR has to assess a player along with his playing stats. 20M+ looks good from the point of view of reinvesting in the squad. Ged

Don't use stats to blind you to what you know. Aggers is class and Downing fails to deliver on a consistent basis... Opta will fail to convince me Downing can't do better OR that we are better off without Agger...but I appreciate your trying to cushion the blow, if it comes

08 Aug 2012 17:00:10
Have you seen the new "We come Not to play" banners they have posted everywhere on the official LFC site? The one with Charlie Adam doing some sort of dance around a pole? I thought it was a joke when I first noticed it.

Like we come not to play, but to Dance! Do the the Charlie Hustle, everybody now.

Its actually meant to be come to fight/battle (Warrior) but the dance is pretty wierd :/

With all this talk about Agger can we remeber that on sunday we welcome back one of, if not the best centre halfs to ever wear a liverpool jersey big Sami Hyppia now he was definately priceless

The best centre back to wear the the red shirt!

Alan Hansen??!!!
Tommy.

08 Aug 2012 15:10:30
very very disappointed with BR stance on Agger.
We are on a slippery slope to nowhere if we start selling our best players.
Who does he think he can get to replace him for the money he will get for him?
No real top class centre halves going to come here without CL football.
We already have a world class centre half in Agger.
I really hope we havent got another Hodgson on our hands here who knows his football but because of lack of experience at the very top level either as a player or a Manager he doesnt realise how good you have got to be to play for a top four club in the Premier league.
There is a mammoth gap both in ability and pressure between playing for Swansea and playing for Liverpool.
Some of the players being mentioned as targets as against what we have let go make a lot of fans very nervous about the whole situation.
BR started his regime by saying all the right things etc but he isnt at the moment.

08 Aug 2012 14:47:46
Nice 1 Brendan, bellars on his way, agger and Carroll basically told they can go! Who next? Gerrard? Pepe? And still one transfer in Borini - not exactly thrilling now is it? The big loan signing most likely tello or the lad from madrid.... Can someone tell me what have they done? A lot of ppl on here are letting there hearts rule their heads. Fsg and Brendan better have a miracle sorted for this season, because if we start the 13/14 campaign with another new manager and half our decent players goin I for one will not be a happy bunny!

How will we be starting with another manager when werner has already said that they are not placing any expectations on rogers in his first season and that this is most definately a work in progress.FFS people, calm down calm down

Bredan has done a better job than anyone else in his situation. Have Agger and Carroll gone yet? Is Bellamy able to play every game? It's incredible how we can call some people "supporters" when all they contribute is moaning about the team...

The 13/14 season is a little over a year away yet mate!

Gd Evening Eds and reds: personally i think Agger will be sold and with talk Rampant of will their be a replacement or Will Kelly or Coates get a chance, A replacement should be brought in IMO firstly Hummels 4 me is out of the question it is an unrealistic target atm, Javi Garcia is unrealistic aswell i think. Kyriakos Papadopoulos would be great but far too expensive 2 Defenders i think would be Realistic and good signings would be Benedikt Höwedes or Diego Godín. what do you recon eds/fans ?
reply appreciated as always :

To be honest I don't care about how much a player costs, his wages, his selling on fee or what he gets up to in his spare time because all I care about is if he pulls on a red shirt with the LFC badge that he gives 100% to the club on the pitch to help us get back where we were. If we've got that commitment then the results will follow.
KernowRed {Ed052's Note - Well said}

And if what he gets up to in his spare time affetcs his performance? Then he would not b giving 100%! Good thought though.

First of all, thanks Eds for all your hard work, great site. Secondly, I'm buzzing for the new season! Really looking forward to seeing how we play under Rodgers and hopefully we will see an improvement from previous seasons.
Next, for anyone criticising Rodgers ALREADY, don't. We've signed Borini, who I think could become a fantastic player at Liverpool, we haven't lost any of our top players, and Suarez has signed a new contract, which is superb news and in my opinion a real statement that we are no longer going to get taken for mugs in the transfer market.
Also, the rumours of Aggers departure are worrying, however, if we get 20 million for a player who is injured for a large period of every season, I wouldn't be too disappointed. He undoubtably a class player, but no player is in replaceable and we could definately invest in a very good centre back for around 10 million. Leaving us more money for attacking options. Also don't forget we have Coates, Kelly, and Danny Wilson who will all be superb players after experience in the team.
I really think we should give Brendan Rodgers a chance, of course success won't come instantly, but in time, he could become the man to lead us to glory again.

Sorry for the long post eds, just had to express my opinion on a few things. Please post as this took me a fairly long time to type! Haha. Cheers Eds and fellow reds, YNWA

KGB1892 {Ed049's Note - cheers mate}

Good post KGB mate, The biggest improvement to the squad this season, for me, has to be having a fully fit Lucas back, cant wait for the new season to start now, would prefer Agger to still be with us, even though £20mill is a hell of a lot of money to knock back for a defender with his injury record. Roll on the new season...

STEVE
RED4LIFE

Even Rogers himself thinks he won't lead us to glory

He said in an interview that there is so much work to be done at LFC that success may only come after his departure.

08 Aug 2012 14:36:50
guys calm down i am sure that the management team are working hard on transfers which i assume to be complicated when dealing with the players and over inflated egos of some of the chairmen. it will happen or we will move on to new targets, we will progress and this season we will be better than last, where it seemed to me we stopped playing after we won the cup, we are better than that and with only a few good men we will move up the table from last year. i would like to see a year on year improvement, with the addition of the kids coming through the futures bright, the futures liverpool.ray3037

But what transfers that is the question?

08 Aug 2012 14:36:40
It seems that LFC do want to keep hold of Agger (from rumours page) and have a new contract offer on the table, but Agger is holding out for an escape clause to be included that does not suit the club.

So LFC are calling his bluff by making it known that they'll consider selling him if he doesn't back down (hence BR's comments)

Is this really all an elaborate game of cat and mouse?

Hopefully he signs the extension (if this is true) and we can move on from this.

LFC_SA

To be fair agger is top player when fit but what happens when he isnt fit we have to play with a player not good enough in his place that may be ok for so many games in a season but not for half if we can get 20-25 mill for agger take it and buy a replacement who will be fit more than injured can only be good for team,

08 Aug 2012 14:34:28
I work in a school teaching English and I teach a lot of Italians. All the Roma fans say that Borini is a great young player. They are gutted he has left and say he will be really good for us.
Red Greco

I live in Roma past 6 years and I think he still have a long way to go

Hope you're right but I was on holiday in Italy in 2009 and was told exactly the same thing about Aquilani. I guess the difference is at least Borini won't be taken by surprise by the physicality of the Premier League

They are all taking the phiss, eh, mama!

08 Aug 2012 14:26:31

08 Aug 2012 14:21:33
hi eds all reds ive been reading the posts , as usual, it seems to me we could have at least two targets in the posistions we need to strengthen. i would say it could be godin or amrobietta, allen or sahin, walcott or dempsey, rameriaz or a.johnson. im not saying these are the signings i would go for myself but, reading as much as i can , these players seem to be the favourites. my own take on things would be deigo , honda and torres( oh contraversial). all quality , mature , and right for rhe posostoins we need to get better in. im taking my 7yr old son to the match tomorrow, hoping we name a strong team, and maybe one or two new signings to parade! steviep62.

Eds, news from Spain is saying Llorente wants out of AB. He is a stronger and a more skillful version of AC. Are we still interested in him? {Ed052's Note - Even if we were (which I would doubt now) he would have other options, including several Champions League clubs.}

I'd prefer Carroll.
Skurks

08 Aug 2012 13:35:12
Any idea on potential fees for the centre backs we've been linked with? If Agger goes for £20M, i'm wondering whether we could end up buying 2, given that Carragher hasn't got long left and Coates may not be trusted just yet.
Also, it mentions on BBC that Johnson may be offered on loan to sweeten the deal.....any chance of Micah Richards?
Cheers {Ed052's Note - I doubt we would go for Richards unless one or two of our RB's were leaving, and I doubt we would buy 2 CB's - remember the youth can play a part, e.g. Wisdom. the extra money from Agger can be used for other areas of the sqaud.}

08 Aug 2012 13:31:42
Hi Eds. Just wondering if Agger does go to Citeh, could a non-compete deal be done re Ramires as part of the deal? Are these generally just informal arrangements done on an honour basis or are they legally enforcable?

I would prefer Ramires to Adam Johnson and I reckon he'd be on a load less loot too (can't see Johnson taking a huge paycut even for more chances of a start)

JimK {Ed052's Note - I doubt it mate.}

08 Aug 2012 13:17:03
Eds could you also answer this but what does everyone think will happen with Pacheco? I think he's had a good preseason and will be a good little player to have has a super sub maybe? Idk.. On the note of forwards, imagine having the depth of Suarez, Carroll if he stays (if not, will have a new prolific striker), Borini, Sterling, Walcott(linked), Ramirez (linked), Gerrard (behind striker), Downing, Tello (linked), Afellay (linked) and then Pacheco .. Just to name a few.. Now clearly we won't get all those linked but if we were to get two at least I think we'd be in with some chance of making top 4.

YNWA!

There's a lot of linked there but who have we actually got? x-wing.

08 Aug 2012 13:47:37
Daniel agger is a great player for Liverpool. But I think the club has it right. 25mill for a very injury prone player. Is good businesses to me.

I agree, in defence of Rodger's I feel his hands are tied. Know one is willing to meet Any Carrol's valuation, athough that could change towards the end of the window. Our next major asset besides Suarez is Agger. Agger is a great player and certainly someone Rodgers would want to keep, as he is comfortable on the ball, can tackle, pass well etc. However, if we can get in excess of £20 million we should sell as he's only played an average of of 48% of games over a period of 6/7 years. Rodgers knows that he can bring in a quality CB for half that fee and still have funds to buy other players to improve the squad. It makes perfect sense. The only problem is how long will a new CB take to settle! Carragher may have to step in to partner Skrtel in the short term, which does worry me a bit. Great news about Suarez!

Totally agree mate.

08 Aug 2012 13:17:38
doesnt make sense if agger doesn't want to go to city then why are the club selling him dont say money talks we need a squad of good players have we been reduced to a selling club ? does these new americans realise if you sell your best players you will never reach the top ever.??

Absolutely spot on. People talk about us never being able to be competitive because we can't attract high quality players due to lack of Champions' League football, but the thing is, we now have a squad as good as any in the league, excluding Man City and Chelsea. Our problem is that we get to a point, sell our best players, replace them with youth or players with potential, and those players either fail to match their predecessor or get sold and the process starts all over again! Perhaps if we actually hold on to our best players we will actually get somewhere; our poor finish last season was the result of under-performance from top players, not a lack of ability. The spine of our team is this:

Reina

Johnson Agger Skrtel Enrique

Lucas Gerrard

Suarez

As I said, that's as good as any in the league. With 3 or 4 good additions and an end to the ridiculousness of becoming some sort of feeder club to Chelsea and now apparently Man City, we can compete again. You can't really blame FSG but they don't seem particularly keen to fight for top players, do they? {Ed049's Note - You just described Arsenal there.}

How have we been reduced to being a selling club, over the last few years we have lost some good players, Alonso, Mascherano, Torres, Miereles but all of these players wanted to leave and the club made some profit when selling them on, players leave football clubs all the time this does not necessarily make them a selling club just a functioning football club, if we could get the kind of money being quoted for Agger I'd take it, going on his history he will probably be lucky to play half our matches next season anyway.

Gman82

Agger is not one of our best players. Injury prone, not fantastic defensively. I think the club have it right.

You've answered your own question there, but just in case you didn't get it, I'll summarise your key points: "How have we been reduced to a selling club?... *4 of our best players listed as being sold*". A selling club isn't a club that sells- as you rightly point out, that is a perfectly functioning football club. A selling club is one which acts almost as a feeder club to other clubs with seemingly more ambition, or a more attractive offer; two of our very best players went to Chelsea. We're not quite as bad as Arsenal yet, but it's incredibly sad that when a player develops here and becomes world class there's always talk of them moving on. The idea of them moving on suggests we are not a top club anymore.

Ed049: Precisely. Unfortunately they consistently achieve CL football, but we are essentially the same now.

Two of our best went to Chelsea? Matter of opinion. Who do you rate more: meireles or benayoun?

To describe something as a matter of opinion does not automatically make it invalid you know. Torres and Meireles or Carroll and Adam?

I'll rather a manager tell us the truth (even if it makes us upset) about transfers than lie and for us to be even more disappointed?!
Ruben

Do you assume Brendan has lied?

Oh stop whining- Rodgers can't do anything right with you people. Next thing you will be complaining about what he eats for breakfst.

Sorry to say but the squad seems to be in a mess at the moment. Not enough coming in , losing Agger , Bellamy , Maxi , Kuyt...weaker than last season. Action please , in a hurry , season around the corner!! What is going on??

Agger for the money rumoured £22 million plus would be stupid to turn down. Bellamy wants to go back to finish his career at Cardiff. Maxi and Kuty ahve been peropheral last year and not getting any younger, we need fresh legs in those positions

Have I missed something - Agger been sold, oops no I haven't, because he hasn't.

Squad is still to big mate and allot of silly wages for players that arent reall worth it, a couple of players have gone so far but there still needs to be more cuts before we can bring anyyone in. not long left now so i would expcet/hope a few changes next week.

Unlike most people who are blindly optimistic and deem such comments as absurd, disloyal, impatient etc, I completely agree with you. We're now very much a selling club and I can't even criticise the players we've brought in because, well, we've only brought in one, and he's nothing to get excited about. If we sell Carroll and Bellamy, that will be four attackers (Maxi and Kuyt) gone. Based on the system Brendan Rodgers plays, we'll need to bring in at least 3 players to replace them; players such as Adam Johnson, Theo Walcott, Gaston Ramirez, Tello etc.

Mate, this isn't a good post is it? Sort your self out.

Really? weaker?! I would rather trim the squad (therein the wage bill) of players who were alsorans and were costing the club and buy good potential players (Borini and Allen) and use the younger members as squad and have a team that will gel and mature as a unit, regardless of whether it may take a year or two...bigger picture people. The owners are not going to run the club into the ground and it makes sense.

IN RODGER'S I TRUST.he has to sort the team out an much needed in my book, are team is what matter's an he is the man in the hot seat, its got to be his way lets just back him and the team all the way back to GLORY DAY'S.jay essex red for life red till dead

The club has just sold or released players that are either are not part of Rodger's plans, too old, or are simply not highly thought of. Everyone has a clear out time to time, and it was over due at Liverpool. Expect it to continue till the start of the season, then continue again in January.

08 Aug 2012 20:06:12
We haven't 'lost' any of our players. We SOLD Kuyt and Maxi, for good reason. Agger and Bellamy have not been sold (as of yet) but even if we do we'll get a good price and be able to replace. Why so negative? We're not losing any players, we're SELLING them and then buying someone else who's possibly younger and better.

It's pretty obvious we're targeting quite a few players, so what's the problem? I think we'll sign the majority of the players Macca has reported, so I'm happy with that!

Ell

08 Aug 2012 13:05:43
Im a little worried about the lack of activity from us at the moment. We need to get the squad together ASAP.

Surely you would want the players to gel before the season starts.

BR said he wants them in sooner rather then later, I guess like BR and the Ed's keep telling us transfers are pretty hard to get done. I would assume its not just a case of saying can I have player A and they say give me so much and he's yours and you say ok, and you both shake hands and thats it. Or is it done like that? I'm confused.

Danny

Time for patience. It's more important to get things right this time

Surely you want BR to properly asses the squad before he dips into the funds. i would actually rather that we spend more in next summers window after he has had a season to assess the squads short comings. one or two signings this window couldn't hurt though.
derryred

08 Aug 2012 13:01:52
Concerned over the total lack of activity in the transfer market. We have paid over the odds for Borini , Ashley Williams being linked (not good enough to replace Agger) , Joe Allen (good player but worth £15m??) . I hope i'm wrong but our ambition seems to be lacking. Is this due to a lack of funds , players having to be sold before we can buy?? The way Carroll has been treated leaves a lot to be desired too. The season is around the corner and we are nowhere near ready. I really hope we start to get things moving ASAP. We cant afford a poor start again.
p.s Good luck Craig Bellamy , worked hard for us and gave your all again. Deserve a return home.

Oh jeez, the whingers are back

YOU managed to miss Sahin, Tello, Dempsey, Walcott and Amorebieta. These are all quality players. If you have to moan about something, do some proper research and then start typing.

What a pathetic post.

Or the realists!! Head out of the sand , are you pleased with the summer so far?? Somethings not right.

Blinkers on !!!

Haha please stop moaning support your club or go support someone else. You make me laugh saying we have over paid for a 21 year old Italy international. Allen might not be cheap but when his passing rate is up with Xavi, Iniesta and Alonso 3 of the worlds best what do you expect.... Theres still over 3 weeks left in the market and its not as easy as you think, its not Fifa or LMA Manager!

23 days left in this transfer window.

Have we signed them then??? NO!!

It is really sad if Agger is being pushed out. Loyalty in football is long gone. Players leave whenever they want, football clubs sell players whenever they want. {Ed023's Note - Where is documented that Agger is being 'pushed' out?}

If football clubs sell players whenever they want why did we make it look so difficult with aquilani?!
SM91

Agger is injury prone and not a good defender. 20 million is unbelievable for a player who has been injured in every season he has been at Liverpool

Having been linked with Nuri Sahin who is a world class centre midfielder and finally a true replacement for Xabi Alonso in my eyes, do you think it is possible we could get him ahead of Arsenal and do you feel the relationship with Jose and Rodgers could help us with this?

The only one who needs to return is the King

They ain't remaking lotr return of the king. Next movie is going to be the hobbit starring BR

08 Aug 2012 12:44:55
Allen deal should be completed by next week, but we won't pay 20 million.
Dempsey still could sign, but that is expected to drag on....
Agger has been offered a new contract.....
Walcott won't sign unless he lowers his wage demand(not 100 percent on that)

Spongebob

Go back to your Pineapple...

08 Aug 2012 12:40:53
Well it seems we have a very good manager,, sigh am sure Rodgers would not let us down. Yonks need to beck him & BR need to put the yonks in his pocket.

Great to see Luis signing a new contract, but one part I can't agree with BR is waiting till August... bad idea to
wait, we need to wrap it up soon so that everything will be in place from the start.. we have some tough games in August.

I don't usually post rumors but here is bit of something I would like to share I might be wrong though..

Expect Joe Allen to sign by 7 days time & Ramirez is only a fall back option for midfield..

Bosco

Bosco, try posting just once without slagging off FSG. You might find it refreshing. Incidentally, BR isnt paying Suarez's wages himself. FSG are. So that suggests to me that they are backing him....
Think before you moan next time (although it appears to be an afliction you cant control).

BigBadBen

WTF is a 'yonk'?

Bosco the fsg basher is back. Ridiculousness in all it's glory

'YONK - A word that is spoken or muttered while someone is in the process of swiping (swipe) an item that already belongs to them. Similar to 'yoink' except 'yoink' is spoken when someone is swiping an item that rightfully belongs to someone else.'

Hence BR needs to put his yonks in his pocket, so no-one swipes them i guess..

BigBadBen

Bosco dislikes Americans, so it's his nice little disparaging name for them.

Thanks so much for the info. Macca. Hopefully from this (and the new contract Luis has signed) it will help ease the amount of trolling/moaning on the Liverpool Banter page.

If (as Macca says things can change) we do get all of the targets it shows me how BR and FSG are looking to upgrade our squad.

Tello to replace Kuyt.
Sahin to replace Adam.
Dempsey to replace Maxi.
Allen to replace Aquilani.
Walcott to replace Carroll
Borini to fill the gap that has been missing.

None too shabby.

Walcott I am not 100 percent about but, he does, for sure, give another dimention with his pace. Balls from Gerrard/Sahin will make a lethal counter attack when our backs are against the wall. I have little doubt that if BR sprinkles some of his magic on Walcott he can only improve.

I am extremely excited for next season and am so hopeful BR can start rebuilding the success our great club desires. He, no doubt, needs time and 100 percent backing from all Liverpool fans, we all need to push together in one direction.

With hope in your heart!

K79

I like your post mate.
If anyone moans about the quality of players we are bringing in, just look at who they are replacing.
Our squad looks 10x better if we signed all them.

MIKEY

Yeah that looks good alright but so far we have 1 out of 6 players, not saying we won't sign any of them but I think your chickens are still eggs at the moment mate!

Gman82

Finally someone not hating on Theo, I personally think the lads got a great future, he got 11 assist last season and 8 goals without him and RVP Arsenal would of been nowhere.

Hence the word IF Gman82 ;) But anyhows it shows the right intent from BR and FSG to upgrade.

K79

08 Aug 2012 12:34:31
Macca, do you know anything about the, stadium issue? Is a new stadium needed or is a ANFIELD to be redeveloped using an additional 20,000 seats? Surley the latter would be a better option? Staying at Anfield holding 65,000 rather than some souless corparate arena?
Rich

John Henry mentioned ages ago that he feels a redevelopment of Anfield is the best option. Problem is nearby homeowners are being censored. Redevon

It's corporat hospitality where the money is.

Took my students on the stadium tour yesterday. the guide said it's a redevelopment. They are just trying to buy 2 more houses at the back of the main stand and then it's all good to go.
Red Greco

If Red Greco is telling the truth thats fantastic news will help the club a lot and personally I'd rather keep Anfield and all its history than do the Arsenal, plus the extra 15-20 thousand seats is the cheaper option.

Redev will still cost millions. Old hvac equipment, plumbing, electrical but that's still gonna cost a fraction of a new one.

- Logic

Apparently Ian Ayres is pushing this Agger thing, the player doesnt want to move and isnt impressed by the skip full of money that the Mancs are throwing at him, he is red through and through.

What is happening is the same as what happened with Alonso, and look how that impacted on us? Do we want this again? Can we really accept this?

I think we the supportes, as a collective, need to stand up and let the board know that its not acceptable to treat one of our best player's who is loyal to the club and supporters, to be treated like this, if we sell Agger we may as well just accept that we will be in a relegation battle and be done with it, seriously do you want to see Agger replaced with the likes of Williams or Shawcross? Because that is what we are looking at.

Mentioning us and relegation is a disgrace, take a good look at yourself will you

So you want supporters to revolt against the board based on a story that begins "apparently Ian Ayers is pushing the Agger thing" and ends with us signing Williams or Shawcross as a replacement?

Forgive my pessimism but I would like some proof before I start building the J W Henry effigy.

JRG

Yes because 20m+ is a really good price for him.
He may be red through and through but he will soon get over that.
We need to sell our players at just the right time to get maximum transfer fee before his legs go and we get nothing.
All the transfer fee will get reinvested so I don't see what the problem is.
This clubs bigger than one player.

MIKEY

How many games do you think Agger will be fit enough to play this season?

Rodgers seems to want to reproduce swansea doesent bode well i cant see him creating a sucessful side on them lines he will have to higher is values

Agger is not a good defender, is injury prone and needs to be offloaded pronto {Ed049's Note - You mad bro?}

Every likelihood Agger will do his back in tomorrow night and delay all of this debate. The fact that not many can dispute this as a big possibility speaks volumes - as great as he is. Its overdue :-(

Ant

I don't remember being in the relegation zone for all the games Aggers missed...!?!?

Eds how you rate Henoc Mukendi? As he is loaned to northampton town.Is there any chance for him to play first team or will left like toni silva? One more question does liverpool have any buy back class in INSUA 's contract? {Ed001's Note - he is not a top prospect, hence his move on loan to a place that will get him plenty of first team football and the chance to make it through with us. There is every chance he will play for us, he is on the cusp of being good enough, with the right work ethic he can be. It really depends on this loan spell now for him. It is difficult to rate youth team prospects, to be honest, kids can make huge improvements in a couple of months and turn into top class players.
There is no buyback clause in Insua's contract that I know of. To be honest, I don't think a return would be right for him, he has settled into a different eating culture and he needed that. The Iberian countries eat a lot more fresh fruit and veg, while we have a culture of fast junk food. With his weight issues, he needs to be somewhere that steers clear of the junk.}

Id say he would kill for a big-mac.

LFC had a picture up of insua in all the macdonalds, KFCs and burger kings in Liverpool. He had to drive all the way to Chester to get his fix. Lol
But seriously I have no idea how some footballers have weight issues, they could quite easily go the local grocers for fruit and veg. And it's not as if other European country's don't have fast food all over the place. Maybe it is just our culture to be pigs, and just being around fatties make you want to eat as well.
The English can't go and do anything without filling their faces with junk.

MIKEY

It's thoroughly refreshing seeing the mood on here today, albeit temporarily. The negativity was literally suffocating.
Suarez signing a new is a welcome tonic and spares us of the incessant bleating and wailing.
Here's hoping for more good news.

Talking about news, Macca has informed that among others, Tello, Walcot and Sahin are of interest, with Allen looking likely to sign soon.
The reaction has been slightly mixed, particularly re Walcot.

My own take on him is that Walcot is a gifted player performing below his potential but who, with adequate moulding, can become an important player.
He is young, has terrific pace and can score, though having shown that in fleeting moments.

The lad just needs moulding, which doesn't involve sticking him out on the wing where he's worse than even a headless chicken.
I think Brendan would do a fine job with this kid.

I also wouldn't have a problem with Sahin and Allen joining. Both are exceptional talents with all the tools to be great. Certainly they would change the dynamic of the team.
Tello I know little of. But if Brendan wants him, then I'm sure he can't be without ability.

I think we'll be fine. Personally, I don't subscribe to the take that one needs splash big on eleven 'supersters' to build a good team. In 2008/09 only Torres, Gerrard and Alonso could have been said to be 'supersters'. The rest ranged from very good-to-solid players.
We had a competent manager who moulded those players into fine, mean team.

United and Chelsea both largely had better players than us, yet we finished above the latter and ran the former ragged, only to just lose it at the end.

Now if Brendan succeeds in bringing all the players he wants, his team would have a tad more potential than that of 08.
He has proven his ability of moulding 'humble' players into exceptional teams.

If Allen, Walcot and Sahin comes in, it would be good business. In addition, I would move on Carroll and replace him with Adrian Lopez.
Crucially, I would bring Ramirez, a class player, difference-maker.

Ed, you have previously said that if Ramirez were arrive it would probably be because someone 'big' is leaving, likely Suarez.
Seeing that Suarez is now practically staying, would it be safe to say that pursuit of Ramirez is no more likely?
Also, what is the general situation regarding Adrian Lopez? Is he available? How much would he cost?
Thanks

Govan Sami

Although stats don't lie and Walcott clearly scores and provides shed loads of goals, if Wenger hasn't managed to mould him by now, I don't think any other manager will be able to.

He has frustrated Arsenal fans for years, however given his assist and goal return I'd happily put up with him as this has been the area we struggled with most. Just don't expect any further moulding to his play.

PK

Swansea were fine last season as were QPR , we dont want fine....... its a word that means ok, average could be better, getting by.

08 Aug 2012 12:22:57
If what Macca says comes off then this summer will have been a huge success. We will have replaced older players on high wages with fresh younger ones with more pace, potential and presumably on much lower wages. Tello may replace Bellamy, Dempsey would replace Maxi and Walcott would replace Kuyt. With Borini added to the squad whilst Adam and Spearing might be changed for Allen and Sahin the future is very, very bright. A much stronger and exciting attack with some much needed pace out wide.
Rodgers makes it look easy.

Hi Guys and girls, I a happy man ! With a dilemma.

August 18th is my six month engagenment anniversary AND the start of the season.

I want to devote my whole day to the love of my life, problem is I think the missus wants me do something with her instead. . . any ideas :)

Mr Slonk The Red

YNWA {Ed002's Note - Ed007 will look after your "partner" (and her mother) for you.}

Agh christ... how I laughed at this... :-D

Who celebrates a six month anniversary? Surely by the definition of anniversary, it is every year?

She sounds a bit needy to me mate ;-)

I reckon you should trade the ring in for a new away shirt.

JRG

Don't take that offer Slonk, Ed007 is a manc, you don't know where he has been.

Ed007 is brave man if he wants to take the missus on. . feisty she is !

Same dilemma for me. I have to take my girlfriend to the airport as she is studying abroad for 3 months. I would much rather watch the opening day of the season but don't think she'll let me!

Spoil her mate - take her to The Hawthorns. She deserves it ;)

cozinoz

Dear Mr Slonk The Red,

Chin up. Enjoy celebrating being tied down for life by missing our beautiful club kick off the exciting new season. We would give you help, however it's a bit too funny, but we'll raise a pint for you in the pub!

Sincerely,

All Single LFC Supporters.

The easy way; tell her six months (whilst a milestone) does not technically count as you work on an annual celebration cycle. There is no game Feb 18, so you can take her out for a fish n chip supper and buy her a pineapple fritter as a special treat.

Problem solved.
K79

JRG.

If i traded the ring for a shirt I would be homeless, BUT would have a lovely shirt to wear ;) Dilemma after dilemma !

Mr Sonk the Red

YNWA

Sounds like its all 'in hand' for you singletons

Make love to her while you watch the LFC channel. Everyone's a winner.

Danny

The "anniversary" is about you too, not just her. Take her to the pub to watch the game, for you, and then take her out afterward & do whatever she wants to do. If you don't set the precident now, you'll miss every game this season while shopping for furniture or spending time with the in-laws. She married a Reds fan & has to respect your wishes... Otherwise it looks like you picked the wrong girl, mate. Getting married doesn't mean you lose the right to do things you want to do!

Every player does have their price - look at Ronaldo to Real Madrid.

If buck rogers is our manager jay spearing must be tweeky.

Jay spearing has a price. £5.50

Cheers for the info Macca, really appreciate it!
It's great to see Suarez staying and BR targeting the players Macca has stated. Whether we get them or not it is nice to be linked with better players, rather than your Christian Poulsen's. Personally I liked Kenny and would have given him a year, but if I had to choose another way BR is the definite favourite for me. Really seems he and FSG are doing really positive things for the club. I can't wait to see our progress over the next few years, I really can't.

Thanks, Ell.

Just wanted to say that from what I've heard from someone today who is as as reliable and honest as they come, I'm confident something will be announced tomorrow, and I think it will be Joe Allen (although I'd love it to be a new contract for Agger and Skrtel)

Secondly, in reference to Macca's great info and I'm obviously not holding him to anything because I know how things can change from day to day, but I think a lot of the players he mentioned might be quite close. Just a gut feeling I get, so I hope I'm right.

Just saw this on the website and am sure most of you have by now. Not sure how true it is though.
"Manchester City to offload Adam Johnson as they close in on Sinclair deal
The former Middlesbrough winger is surplus to requirements at Etihad Stadium, with the Premier League champions having already agreed terms with the Swansea star"
Anyone know if he is a genuine Liverpool target? I personally rate this guy.

Good business by City - Sinclair for Johnson, a totally average player that we certainly don't need. Unless we have a spare seat on the bench of course.

Morning EDs
Been reading some posts linking us with Matias Suarez, surely if he has failed a medical we wouldn't be taking a risk on him? Or could it be a case of a minor injury that at a later date would allow him to pass a medical?

PM

Regardless of a medical, I doubt he'd get a work permit as he hasn't had any caps for Argentina. One of the eds could confirm this.

ojay {Ed001's Note - that depends on his passport status, I am sure I read somewhere that he has an EU passport. In which case there is no need for a work permit.}

Anyone know the reason why espn is not allowing ROI viewers see the match 2more night

No - but it's a bu**er though.

Just a thought, you could try and add ESPN UK channel frequency in the other channels set up on Sly. ESPN Ireland should be broadcasting on a different frequecny to ESPN UK.

Used to work with Channel 4 Ireland and Channel 4 UK when Chan4 used to have the test cricket. They didn't show the cricket on Chan4 Ireland but you could tune into to Chan4 uk and watch it no problem.

Will try tonight and see if I can get it to work and post an update.

Irish Red Dog

In roi setanta are still running. But in the uk they were replaced by espn

Setanta probably own the rights for it.

Yes mate I wondered the exact same thing.. Such crap..
Blanco7

Cheers Irish Red Dog :)

We pay enough to sly and then they decide not to allow RoI viewers to view the match. Well I'm not paying any more to get setanta when I should be able to watch espn with no restrictions. It's a disgrace

hi liverpool fans. i know odds dont tell the truth to alot of things but noticed that scott sinclair is 1/3f to join city.

if city sign sinclair then i wonder if adam johnson will move to us? hes been backed into 4/6f to join us. my honest opinion is that if liverpool dont sign walcott, then AJ will be on his way to us. i actualyy prefer AJ over walcott.

JFT96

Why not just try and buy the better option - Sinclair - and not put up with the player City don't give much playing time to.

John B

Overpriced and overpaid. There are better options like Munian or cheaper options like affellay.

Ramirez>Johnson>Walcott>Sturridge>Sinclair

Aurilio, Maxi, Aquilani, Kuty, Bellamy and hopefully Doni, gone/going. Surely must take a huge chunck off our wage bill.

we will learn from our mistakes and only give huge wages to 1st team starters, having quality youth players on good average wages within the squad?

William Hill has received biggest preseason bet yet, 44K on LFC each way. WH have slashed odds on LFC from 25/1 to 16/1 as a result. Something big to be announced or just a crazy cowboy?

Dwood

When large amounts of money are placed, odds are always slashed so the bookies can protect themselves. Just a fool with too much money.

What do you mean slashed odds on what?
TT

We are 19/10 to finish in top 4

Van persie is signing for us

Well that's 44k down the swanny then !

Much love

Wouldn't each-way mean 88k down the swanny?

Hey eds,
I was talking to a engineer over working with me the last couple of days, he's a big Liverpool fan and claims that Andy Carroll isn't going anywhere unless we drop our price and that we're not willing to drop it any truth in this
Lucky the red {Ed002's Note - Nobody seems keen to match the Liverpool valuation right now.}

Er, how would an engineer know this?

AG

I never said he knew I said that he thought this was the case so I decided to ask the ed what he thought about this, because I have read on this site that AC is nailed on to go but if nobody's willing to pay Liverpool's valuation and Liverpool are reluctant to loan the player out then that leads me to believe he'll still be here next season! Not everyone is in the know but we're all entitled to an opinion whether we're engineers or ice cream men thank god for the eds for fielding our questions

Matias Suarez to Liverpool after his Moscow move fell through due to medical. Fee 12.5 mil,

Now that's a player that we would all be happy to see at anfield

If his medical wasn't good enough for them then why would it be good enough for us ?

If he failed a medical there, why would he pass a medical here?

So if he failed a medical there, how would he pass one for us?

Hasn't occured to you he might fail a medical here too if he failed one at Moscow?

What medical do lfc have exactly ? Carroll, Aquilani and Degen all passed ours whilst carrying fairly long term injuries.

Lets hope so. At a pretty good price as well, bet it's not true though

People,
When a webpage is down or slow to upload it is due do to error made developing the change. This could be just a simple news upload ready for the next days viewing, or possibly planning to stream something like video.

Error502, is not some sort of secret message from LFC, just computer speak letting the developers know what is wrong.

Long story short, LFC computer tried to let another computer know that changes had been made, other computer wasnt listening as it was too busy watchin a bit of blue.
Pinged a message back to LFC computer telling it to come back later and try.

All web developers like to programme changes for when traffic is low, IE through the night, hence why you either got a slow loading screen or the Error502 message.

No big secret, no fantastic announcement, no new carpet in BR's office, just a failed conversation between two lump of plastic, with one having a slight addiction to Porn. :0)
Piddy.

Brilliant post!

Latest Odds on Liverpool Targets:
- Adam Johnson - 4/6 < looking more and more likely to leave as Manchester City follow up their interest in Scott Sinclair
- Daniel Sturridge - 6/4 < not sure on this one believe there was interest but has cooled more recently
- Theo Walcott - 1/1 < we know of interest and personally would love to see this happen, would give us more pace and fit comfortably into Brendan Rodgers' system

Source:

We dont want sturridge lad only because if you put him and suarez in the same team they would 100% hate each other and probally cause a rift in the team, they both have massive egos and you couldnt play them together. mike

My major concern over Sturridge is not his potential relationship with Suarez (the point made above) but the fact he is good old fashioned not very good... The Michael Ricketts of his generation! Even Torres played in front of him last year....ha ha

He Ed, I know it may seem far fetched but I have a conspiracy theory for you. Do you think that our players 'being available' such as Carroll, Agger and Skrtel to raise cash because we are 'don't have much money' could be a ploy to lower the market value of potential transfer targets?

There is no secret after our highly-inflated purchases last year that clubs are taking us for mugs and the owners are not happy about this. Also I have been suspicious of Liverpool being so open about the availability of some players since normally we do our business in secrecy.

So do you think that we are saying we are 'willing' to do business for some of our best players just so we are more financially efficient by purchasing players for less? After all, I can't imagine all the money could have just gone after last year's shopping spree and the owners would be so frugal to take steps back by selling players like Agger or Skrtel.

Red Viking {Ed002's Note - No.}

Just on Sahin it seems to me we are getting him on a year loan as part of a gentlemens agreement that he develops here for a season, then Alonso will make a return to Anfield next season with Sahin returning to Real a more developed player.

Ozred.

Are you 12...?

Mourinho has stated time and time again that RM are building around Alonso. He is not going to come. I'd love to have him back but it's never going to happen. Move on people please, that part of his life and ours is over.

Time to look forward.

I'm not sure what all the hype is with Daniel agger, he's ok but nothing special, he only plays for half a season and he's 28, statistically JC and MS are much better defenders, mainly because they stay fit, over the last 4 seasons Aggers only played 40 odd percent of all games, he's to unreliable.

Siggle

You need to look at how many games we win with Agger in the team than when he is out of the team.

OK but nothing special ? Agger's a class act and the best centre back we've had since Sami Hyppia.

We should also sell Steven Gerrard if using your logic.

JRG

The problem is though, we wouldn't get £20+ million for Gerrard.

We would get 70M for stevie

I would let him go for 20+ million, however it is always best if you don't tamper with your top center half partnership.

whats getting worrying at lfc is how slow we are being in the tranfer market. not long now till the start of the season and we have one player in. we need to start getting this sorted. i think this summer so far has been nothing but bad press when it comes to are club. all they go on about is that this player is going or that one. its not good for the club or the players to keep having this said. even if its not true. i didnt think we really needed to change that much from last season apart from bringing in a few wingers and a foward or two. in my view i think 15m is to much for a player like allen not taking anything away from the lad but he is not worth that money. dempsey is great player and i think he could bring alot to us. but we need wingers and a top attacking mid and a forward. that will sort us out. we need to stop buying 10m players who are no good.

Its a slow window. Utd have signed two, Chelsea have been admittedly quite busy, Arsenal have signed two, Spurs have two, City have none. Even Real haven't signed much. Lympics and Euros always makes for a slow July in the Window. August will be more busy.

Don't be restless coz window is too small & congested...

Eds

How severe do you think Standard Chartered's "problems" in the US will impact upon the club, if at all?

Whilst it is just supposition and speculation at present, and nothing has been proven and or established either way, the old "no smoke without fire" adage is hard to remove from my thoughts. If I was to play Devil's advocate momentarilly, is it not highly coincidental that as soon as the Mancs release the news that they are going to float shares on the New York stock exchange, our major sponsor suddenly encounters "problems" with American Financial Services/Regulators.
{Ed002's Note - It has nothing whatsoever to do with Manchester United.}

Barclays and HSBC have both been found out recently for varying mischiefs. Standard are just the next in line I figure.

Andy K

I have a deep rooted dislike of everything our Mancunians cousins are about but seriously...come on...Blaming them for whats happened to Standard Charter? Get a grip lad...If anything did happen to them as regards the sponsorship I'm aware that we have a contract which they would have to honor or pay up...Ian Ayre would have try and work his magic but I believe we are being run more business like than we ever have in terms of sponsorships so I think we wouldn't have much trouble attraccing a new sponsor...But put a sock in these conspiricy theories...

So you not only think fergie is master of the football league you now think he controls the world's financial economics? ! People on this site give fergie way way way way too much credit. He is a good football manager that's it. Not some machiavelian master manipulator of psychology and politics

Dempsey is still ongoing as well as Ramirez. So many rumors to keep up with. It will make my head explode.

Can any of the Ed's explain how we have so little money to spend on new players, after the owners paid off our debt whilst saving approx 35mill in interest per year?

If the owners think that we can challenge for a top 4 place this season with the signing of Borini and possibly selling Carroll or Agger to fund new signings then I'm afraid they are an absolute joke.

alan50 {Ed002's Note - The club has lost about £50M a year since the owners arrived.}

We won't have those sort of loses this year will we ed? Thanks. {Ed002's Note - Much will depend on transfer dealings - but I would expect it will be much less.}

You have to slow down an ocean liner before you can turn it around (dont know if this is true but I think you will get what I mean). We have increased our revenue, decreased our outgoings and hopefully after this season will be heading towards making a profit in the near future. The only way to turn things around quicker comes with great costs (asset sales without purchases) which FSG are not doing thankfully. I am a Red for life. If FSG set us up so that we are competing well for the rest of my time, then a leaner managed year or so until we see ECL income then I am fine with that.

Andy K

Ed02, whilst I agree they have paid alot, the 50m a year they lost since taking over was extra ordinary circumstance, that they wrote off. Its not a loss they will occur from this point on.

All this talk of Suarez signing a new contract is a smoke screen.. He is really in outer mongolia under going secret talks with an unnamed Turin based Italian side in a mud hut with no electricity and only a pen torch for light. We on the other hand are in advanced talks with non other than aguero. He has been offered a years supply of cheese and onion crisps to join but is adamant on salt and vinegar. Ed002: I have read a few comments now saying how you were wrong about Suarez. Please ignore these persons, not once did you say "Suarez will leave" so for a start, you weren't wrong.

Secondly, there are many fans out there, like myself, who respect all the information you give us (especially as you don't even support the club), even if it turns out that the circumstances change!

Finally, I would just like to say a big big thanks to ALL the Ed's (and Macca) for their hard work, you make my working life bearable ha!

Absolutely thrilled that Luis has signed a contract extension. Players like Lucas, Joe Allen, Hendo are what makes the team tick but every side needs a Suarez to produce a bit of magic or pull a rabbit from a hat where needed. Loved his comments regarding his commitment to the club too.
Just wondering where all the mancs and chavs have gone today usually telling us how once Suarez leaves we have nothing

Spot on. Special mention to Disney who gloated everyday about how all our best players wanted to leave. With agger not wanting to leave and king luis signing a new contract, the mancs will do better to stick to their own boring page.

I would take Tello (on a loan to buy deal), Allen (at the right price) and Dempsey...Never been very sure about Walcott... I will rather give Big Andy a chance than going in for him... That's just my thought..

Cheers,

We need pace plus Walcott scores around 10 goals a season plus a lot of assists. He is in the last year of his contract so I think it's to good to miss.

I think sahin is a brilliant player.

Im not sure why its so hard to understand that Andy Carroll doesnt fit into the high pressing, high tempo pass and move system. Simple fact is if he doesnt fit the system we need to move hm on. Simple really!

I would think the commitment Suarez made to the club could have a positive effect to persuade players to join us. Hopefully Dagger stays as well, as I see him as an essential part of our team!
On another note I don't get why do people think Rodger's relationship with Mourinho would be a help in getting Sahin, for one AVB used to work with Mourinho as well and ultimately it is the player's decision, isn't it? I still hope he would come though!

I might get shot down for this but here goes...First of all i'll like to thank the eds for putting up with the same old questions time and time again. It must require a lot of time and effort to keep everyone in the loop. My concerns are the possible loan signings that are potentially heading our way. Names such as Sahin, Tello and Callejon are all linked to us at the moment. On face value, they would instantly improve our squad. The problem is what will happen once the initial loan deal ends. Wouldn't that just put us back in the same dilemma we find ourselves in. I am sure, the likes of Barcelona & Real Madrid would want their players back as they are all immensely talented and young. I for one, has always remained skeptical when loan deal is mentioned. In my opinion, it would be wise for the club, for the long term plans in mind, to purchase players instead of loaning.

But wouldn't it be better if it was a loan to buy deal so we could get the player at the end of the season for probably a lower price than it would be just sell him. Also, if the player doesn't do well, we don't have to go through the process of trying to sell him.

Assuming a planned spend, if we bought in quality with nominal outgoing for them, and we get champions league qualification then we look at a new range of player on offer. Maybe?

Andy K

If these players help us acheive a top 4 finish (which i still thin will be a big ask) then we will be able to once again attract the top players to the club. we can also attempt to sign them out right after giving them somwhat of a trial period.

Just been on the BBC Sport website to see the news of Suarez signing a new deal. Why can't they just report the news of just now, why do they have to have a video link of Suarez talking about Evra and also a footnote of him being charged and serving a ban. Everybody in the world must know by now what happened.

They will never let it lie but they will never drive him away. He has shown his true colours by signing a new deal and not shirking away from the booers and haters. Lets hope he rubs it in their faces by scoring loads of goals and being brilliant. Would love to see the reaction of the papers and news if he is the outstanding candidate for player of the season.

Alot of fans need to calm down and stop panicking there is 3 weeks left of the transfer window left its not like we arent the only club who havent made any signings and even though man city are intrested in agger they havent even started buying yet and if Macca is right we will be making up to 6 signings
( joe allen, clint dempsey, gaston ramirez, theo walcott, nuri sahin, kaka, Fernando Amorebieta, ricardo quaresma, villa, tello) are only some of the names being thrown around and all seem like viable targets to strengthen are squad
united have only bought powell and kagawa so far but have an ageing defense in vidic, ferdinand, evra and rooney is the only player for them who can score over 20 goals a season and to be honast he was poor in the euros even andy carroll overshadowed and outplayed him.
Chelsea have spent massive money on the likes of hazard and oscar good prospects but havent shown it in the premier league and over all chelsea had a worse pre season than we did.
Arsenal would have been alot worse off last season if it wasnt for rvp and would probably have finished even lower than us but have made good signings like podolski, giroud and now cazorla.
So i think that there is absolutely no reason to worry. Hopefully rodgers will make smart signings and hopefully keep agger. Im looking forward to this new season! YNWA

Ed, sorry if you've already answered this but I couldn't find it, Do you know when Suarez's new contract is set to end?? -McMenemy {Ed049's Note - I'm not sure but I guess it's until 2017}

"More than £6bn was wiped from the value of Liverpool FC shirt sponsor Standard Chartered today after the banking giant was accused of hiding £160bn of transactions with the Iranian government." Naughty boys, hope Luis has it in his heart to forgive them, considering their high moral values.

Good time to buy some shares.

08 Aug 2012 01:35:14
ed whats your take on sahin we are about to sign him on a loan deal with the help of rodgers and mourinhos relationship {Ed049's Note - We'll see, we have a strong competition from Arsenal who may want to replace Song, if he moves to Barcelona.}

08 Aug 2012 01:28:01
I hope he fails his medical i have a huge feeling he is going to be terrible i would much rather keeping carrol in the swuad and not send him out on loan then even consider buying boroni he will be another Aqulani and i will sign my post because i am so confident of how bad he will be

Cheers Zincho

You still here Zincho mate? You still stand by this?

How can he possibly of had an opinion change from he originally posted.
saying that borini has played 2 scored 0 hardly the goal machine so far {Ed052's Note -

Liverpool Website appears down with none of the links working.

08 Aug 2012 01:20:53
Wonder why the lfc site is down, possible update for a transfer story?

08 Aug 2012 01:18:58
Just had a look in the Spurs and Man City sites and they are just as downbeat as a lot of our fans, patience seems to be a thing of the past. Can you imagine being the league champions with all of that talent at your disposal and moaning that you have to sell to buy. Seems to me that now the City board are reigning in the spending the honeymoon period may be over. Unless they sign a couple of superstars their fans are disenchanted.
Be careful what you wish for.

is it just me or is the liverpool website down? not that it is gonna have anything transfer wise happening

07 Aug 2012 22:48:11
Hi Eds,i am a bit confused with the players we are linked with. If we are to believe the transfer targets are we buying players for the same position? For example Sahin and Allen (CM) Ramirez,Dempsey, Walcott and Tello (forwards/wingers)
How will we line up with our current players? Will we be playing 4 3 3 or 4 2 3 1? {Ed049's Note - it's a squad game mate, we'll be playing 4-3-3}

Don't get to bogged down on formations as they seem to be a thing of the past.

08 Aug 2012 00:48:40
Players from brazil while very skillful don't seem to do very well in england. May be do to the physical nature. But our style may fit to add that type of player but I wouldn't break the bank. They get pushed around for a year and are ready to move on. Ex, robinho with city

Lucas? Gilberto Silva? theres 2 who seemed to do ok like

I CANNOT wait for the new season to start miss football so much! very happy with the suarez deal and so far very impressed by BR really hope he is given time to get it right,if Macca is correct with his info i'll be over the moon but still happy with whoever arrives it can only improve us roll on the 18th whooo! just back from the states so i apologise for my hoot ha ha lets go red men..#1983#

07 Aug 2012 22:48:04
Eds I don't know an awful lot about Sahin. What type of player is he and what's his best position?

Thanks
Mighty reds {Ed049's Note - He is a left footed Alonso.}

If he is indeed worthy of comparison with alonso, i would not mind us offering a large transfer fee for him. Could be the difference between finishing 6th/7th and 4th.
Indian Buzzer

He is a dictator like alonso was plus his range of passing is excellent to. He can also play higher up the pitch just as well as in the holding role. I think we will play 4231 next season due to lucus sahin and Allen all targets. However actually I suppose Allen is probably best higher up the pitch to do maybe not.

Wow Ed049 U were bang on about Tello and Sahin in the previous post of "Davey".

The future is Luis Suarez.
I am still gutted Kenny has gone.
Rodgers does not convince me in the slightest.
Let us buy the whole Uruguayan team to make sure !
Viva Suarez !

Comandante Rojo

Brendan doesnt convince you but suarez does? Brendan has had talks with suarez an had him sign new contract. Yea he might wanna repay fans loyalty to him but rodgers had speak with him show him his plans. Fool

Go away Patrice, you are not welcomed here!

Jack D.

Suarez is convinced by BR so that's good enough for me.

08 Aug 2012 00:33:11
Nice one Macca. Sounds to me like the loan deal he's been telling people about could be Sahin then. It all makes sense with him being allowed to develop and get 1st team games with us and Brendan Rodgers. Obviously Mourinho knows him and thinks the player will benefit from playing under him and at a massive club like ours, in a tough league.

They would obviously be on good terms for talks about such a deal if they are ex colleagues and friends. It just makes sense like I say.

Macca's the real deal.

Strange forces at work the official LFC site is not fesponding to my input, should i abort or exterminate. On the other hand its hardly surprising after the news about suarez, but i cant help feeling that this could be cavani and ramirez signing on a free,or just a temporary glitch, but glitches are poo just like man u.

Ive had the same problem all night long thank god your having the same problems as me thought my computer had a virus..walk on.id say fsg are making cut backs they didnt pay the electricity bill.walk on:)..martin k.

And who might you and your poo be?

Is it true that they had written that Ramirez had signed ... And now the site is down? Yet another "oops" by the media team (and Web site)?

08 Aug 2012 00:17:56
Don't think there is anything in this but just tried to get onto the Liverpool website on the latest news section. Is this the same for everyone else too? Could this be due to a big transfer deal which is imminent? I won't hold my breath.

The players must really like what Rodgers is doing. Suarez signing new contract.. And if what Macca has said is true which i believe it is Agger and Skrtel want to stay too but i wouldnt blame Agger if he left for Barca..

In a matter of days we have gone from a site full of negativity after one match with a s***e squad to a site full of excitement and anticipation of what could happen next

08 Aug 2012 00:02:31
liverpool wesbiste has been down for a while possibly updating the allen signing?? i hope so!iv just been reading a few posts about people who are not happy with rodgers and reckon he's gonna fail, does YNWA mean anything to them he has only had one competitive game..support the manager and team and be real liverpool fans!
joe allen
gaston ramirez
clint dempsey
nuri sahin on loan with option to buy
i think every liverpool fan would be happy with those signings!

One competative game which he won playing far from pretty football against a team who's at the sharpest they've been all season.

Tello and Walcott as we need pacey wide men.

08 Aug 2012 00:00:41
uh oh the LFC web site is down cue the madness , as I am sure a number of people this means all kinds of crazy things . Personally I think it could just be a glitch but I am looking forward to the conspiracy talk

There was a glitch lunchtime with releasing the Suarez vid that got deleted...theres something dodgy going on...

I have source close friend of BR from CO DOWN
and he tells BR likes the player james mc clean
of sunderland he young and very quick and would come cheap.

thanks
derryred

Sunderland want 20 million for him so that's why there is no offers for him.

07 Aug 2012 23:46:32
LFC site is down are singings immenint?

Yes, let's all sing cuz the site is down lalalala

07 Aug 2012 23:46:05
Well done Brendan Rodgers. There is some real quality players there. Sahin is the player finally to replace xabi alonso as he can control a game. Tello is a fantastic young player and has serious pace which is what we lack. He has a lot of potential and could be the player to replace the outgoing Bellamy (who I would love to keep). I didn't rate Walcott but he has a year to run on his contract and has bags of pace. He was always a regular at arsenal. Allen is a good player but if we get sahin I'm not sure we need him but if he signs it is the end of spearing and Adam. Dempsey wouldn't be a target for me but if we could offer cole or Adam as part of the deal then great. In addition he scored 23 goals last season and is fairly cheap so I shouldn't complain.

Finally and more importantly than any signing BR has convinced Suarez to stay plus Agger doesn't want to leave.

To think I was calling for BRs head last night and calling him an person. For that I am one impatient shallow person!

I would also like to say well done FSG as there must be money to spend.

A now optimistic fan.

Keep the optimism mate... Through the storm... YNWA

I very much doubt we'll be signing both Allen and Sahin. So what I'd like to know is, who would you guys prefer? Allen(Believable) or Sahin(Unbelievable).

BO

What does your name stand for? xD

If Charlie is leaving as is rumoured....then both

cozinoz

We let go aquilani, and adam & spearing might also leave..so with more matches (Europa league) and a 3 man midfield i would think adding them both would make perfect sense..last summer after so much talk of too many midfielders we loaned cole, aquilani & sold poulsen, meireles and ultimately were short of players when lucas & gerrard was unavilable..6 midfielders seems decent enough..its a squad game remember ?

08 Aug 2012 13:14:14
Macca said both but I assume Adam and spearing are leaving. That would leave us with lucus Allen sahin gerrard Henderson Shelvey. Don't let Shelvey or suso out on loan this season as we have a lot of football.

''One great mark by which you may discover a critic who has neither taste nor learning is this, that he seldom ventures to praise.A true critic ought to dwell rather on excellencies than imperfections''. I read this passage from ''Milton's poetical works'' earlier today and thought, how apt this statement sums up the doubters, moaners and s***e mongers frequenting this site of late.Get behind BR,get behind the team of f**k off !! B

Lovin it couldnt agree more 1 game in charge and ltd time with full squad and there out to get rodgers and fsg people who moan and groan if u want instant success go and buy a city top and support them,

Yeah, the Learned Tasteful LFC Supporters Club. I'm in.

I would suggest that most of the moaners etc would struggle to understand the quote.
All the same - great point, eloquently made B !

Great update from Macca. Would be devastated if we lost agger, most underrated defender in prem. looking like we could be in for a shrewd window.

Btw, if Allen signs I have a feeling he will be class

Loop 2

How exactly is Agger underrated when citeh and barca are asking about him at 27 years? Underrated was when he was bought by us for 6 mil.

07 Aug 2012 23:09:50
hi just to all the people that had suarez off and the doom and gloom about the club we know nothing about whats happening behind closed doors so give the manager and owners time what people knew that suarez was signing a new contract tonight not many im guessing so have faith and relax yea its a great signing as far as im concerned the future is bright the future is red long live the liver bird from irish red accross the pond

07 Aug 2012 23:09:33
Delighted Suarez is staying. 25 goals this season will do nicely!

Mantis.

30 goals would even be better!!

If Suarez put away half his chances and got a bit of luck with the woodwork he could score 40+

50 goals would be even better

07 Aug 2012 23:31:19
just noticed something there doing my daily read of the site. last year or so reading all these names of players linked with us and wondering were they're coming from? bought fm12 about 6 months ago and now i no lmao. i remember a game from about 10 yrs ago were u could get saviola from argentina and he was amazing! look at him in real life? just because they're good in a game/sim doesnt mean they good in real life.. come on people lol

Saviola was amazing at the time and played for Real and Barca!

07 Aug 2012 23:29:36
I personally think agger will be sold if a decent offer comes in but whilst all the talk has been about citeh + barca, I wonder if maybe it will be to madrid with an agreement of a couple of players coming the other way on loan and cash. Just my own thoughts, feel free to abuse!

You're a massive bel1end. Sorry, I couldn't resist the invitation :o)

Obviously need to post a more unbelievable or stupid post for the expected abuse. How about Agger to Spurs with Bale coming the other way, KK to return as manager and we have bid 100 mil for Neymar? All confirmed by mystic megs twitter account. Now surely that deserves some grief!

07 Aug 2012 23:24:39
Evening fans, eds.

Really glad suarez has signed a new deal, should put some of the doubters about fsg's plans at ease.

Lots of players have left, just hoping we start to bringing some in, its hard enough to get them all playing how br wants them too, especially when we are still adding to the club. Time waits for no man. This isnt a negative post, just you know...sooner they are in sooner they can gel :)
