I think we need a new Centre back. Sell Agger and Skrtel. I agree 100% with ed001 yesterday in that Skrtel drops off too deep to make up for a lack of pace and that whilst agger is amazing, Sakho suits our play a lot better. In terms of who though, I don't know who we could bring in as another CB, Toure works in the short term, but in the medium-long term we need someone to keep Iloris seat warm.

Howedes, Matip, Toprak, Musacchio all seem like decent shouts, Eds do you know if either of these would be available in January?

Even Papadopolous, has he recovered from injury yet? Someone with a character like Carra had (Toure works for now.) I couldn't imagine Skrtel grabbing the defense by the scruff of the neck and dragging them through a game.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - the only one I know of who could be available is Musacchio, though we dropped interest in him a while back, so I can't see him joining us.}

I agree skrtel has been the only constant CB while toure, agger and sakho have been in and out, yet we keep conceding. Skrtel is kind of similar situation to Reina where he is world class but is making too many mistakes and maybe needs to be replaced with a fresh face. while agger is too big of a player to contest with sakho (who cost around £15m) for the LCB role. we sell them and we would get £35m easy.

in terms of getting a player that is a leader, we don't need a one as Sakho is a leader don't forget he captained PSG from a very young age. Bonucci would be ideal who would be available at around £16m, along with Musacchio as his contract runs out in the summer. They would cost around £20m together and we could loan Tiago Ilori to Villarreal at the same time.

out; Agger & Skrtel £35m
loans - Ilori, Ibe, aspas.

in; Bonucci, Musacchio, Montoya, Douglas Costa, Berbatov (we need an experienced striker to compliment the strike force of suarez and sturridge) - spending under £15m

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I think people have some strange idea of exactly what world class is, if Skrtel is anywhere near it!}

Completely disagree about Skrtel. I do think he makes too many mistakes but without him we would have let in several more goals and lost at least one game!
Sakho I really wanted at LFc but for me has not be world class at all. While he has had some good spells he has not been as good as Skrtel so far, although I do think he will prove to be very good for us

Agree0 Disagree0

What irritates me is the amount of players in the "world class" bracket. Must be a couple of hundred footballers by now.

Gerrard out till mid January, Allan and Lucas will have to carry us now.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thats what a squad does :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Your talking about players carrying us. and the post below you would like to sign berbatov??

Agree0 Disagree0

There's nothing wrong with berbatov, I think all players attitude can be changed. Plus he's a lot better than borini or aspas

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Dec 2013 20:18:07
was just looking at report on walkon.com and apparently there is talk of berbetof really? any appinions on this one? just for the record I think he has moments of magic but he is bone lazy and I don't think he fits the style of play at Liverpool.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think he'd be an amazing signing until sturridge is fit, he won't offer much energy atall, but the guy is pure class, he'd link up very well with Suarez an cout. We're crying out for another striker who can make a difference if one of our big boys is injured, he 'd be cheep, perfect in my eyes.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - and you end up like Fulham, with the rest of the team wondering why they should bother making an effort when that lazy good for nothing tit is stood watching and whining. He is no longer good enough to make up for his pure laziness and lack of fitness.}

I would fancy him as a Super Sub. Premier league experienced would be a good addition to the Bench than Aspas.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - seriously? What use is bringing on a player to stroll around with his hands on his hips if you want to turn a defeat or draw into a victory? You need a player to scrap and fight for your team in those instances, not be too busy smoking a crafty fag on the half way line. It is a lunatic and completely idiotic idea to even consider signing him, though not as idiotic and dismissing a player who has only just arrived.}

Wow you guys would like that sulk here. laughable man, the guy has no class whatsoever, he has played alright in his two last games so gimmie a break, and his probably playing well to get a transfer

My poor Chelsea friend was so distraught with the result that he couldn't think of any half decent reply:

Me: Killed off by a Liverpool fringe player who's only chance at getting game time was on loan.

Mate: I prefer to be simple and pragmatic and say that we scored one goal less than them and we lost

Me: You kept it quite simple by saving yourself the arithmetic.

Mate: (no reply)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Keep digging boys! We have to find the joke!

Benny, that's poor - even from you

This is MOTD fever, deulofea looked great again today, vision, touch, etc etc. are we still interested and would we get him?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I admire the fellow reds who sit down and draw a list of players who would be good or brilliant to buy.

Great, but everything hinges on us getting top4, everything. And please don't say we are a work in progress because that is shirking responsibility in the most blatant way.
Top 4 and getting that hinges on our January recruitments, an attacking/creative midfielder and wingers. Gerrard, the colossus that he has been, has lost a lot of his potency but that's life, happens to all. I'd hate to think of us not getting Top4, Suarez leaving; however much we get for him players will not join if you don't offer CL.
So please Brendan, use your acumen and sign what we need. competition for top4 is fierce now so get it right.

Must say this. Everton are playing really well at the Emirates at the moment. This is the kind of stuff you should do when you play Arsenal. Instead of the limp-wristed nonsense that Brendan Rogers served up several weeks ago. You run at them, give them no space to pass and harry them. You don't try to play a passing game with Arsenal.

It will be stupid to write off Everton for top 4 or an outside chance for the league. They have as much chance for both as we do. Jeez, I am going to be sick now.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Everton have played all the so-called top teams, apart from the saints at the end of dec their run-in is by far the easiest of all the top 6, I really feel everton will be sitting in 2nd place come 1st jan

Agree0 Disagree0

Everton are playing well this season
Must say it doesn't sit well with me that their best 3 players so far this season are on loan
Is this good for any club?

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with Chris, there most influential player aren't even theirs. Lukaku is Chelsea's and Deulefeu is Barca's. What happens at the end of the year when they return to there club?

Agree0 Disagree0

That's easy Andrew they buy with their CL Money or they loan others.
They are a very good outfit

Agree0 Disagree0

What is champions league 25 million? Players of that caliber to replace the 3 that will return home will cost way more than that. Lukaku is worth 20 by himself.

Agree0 Disagree0

Everton are actually more likely to finish in top four than we are. Because they have shown the league how to play away from home. Regardless of the opposition. They could have won that game last night.

We, on the other hand, look nervous and seem to crawl into a shell when we leave Anfield.

Hey lfc fans
As much as felt that Rodgers wasted money on a spas and Alberto . Handicapping us because we don't have much options
We are second on points with a weak squad
Without any good wingers who are a threat going forward and try to score themselves and not just leaving it to Suarez and Sturridge
We are still second without our first choice back four getting a run of games because of injuries

And second without great dribbling midfielders bar coutingo who can take players in and drive forward
We just have hardworking average midfielders in Henderson and Alberto and only a very young kid in sterling.

So I think it's remarkable where we are

I truly feel if rogers buys quality in jan no youngsters
Our second might even be better with Enrique back too and Sturridge

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So instead of everything you just spouted off there, why not congratulate Rodgers for getting the best out of the players he has. That in my opinion is a sign of a top manager. Everyone at LFC is there by no mistake, stop questioning players because they haven't lived up to your hype yet.

Just a shout for big Sammy leading his team to victory against BVB at their own home. Watched the game and you've got to say his team nullified them brilliantly and showed great grit and determination in open play. For a team loosing their beat player in schürrle and with low spending, that was a brilliant performance and are only 4 points behind Bayern.we'd do with some of the same away at Chelsea, spurs and city.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I wouldn't read too much into it. Borussia lost their best player last year, and seriously lack an attack atm, lewandowski looks like he's eager to move on, doesn't turn up to matches at all

Good Afternoon Ed's & Reds,
Just a few interesting stats for you to have a look at.

After 15 games last season
Wins - 4
Draws - 7
Losses - 4
Goals for - 19
Goals against - 18
Points gained - 19
Position in the league table - 12th

After 15 games this season
Wins - 9
Draws - 3
Losses - 3
Goals for - 34
Goals against - 18
Points gained - 30
Position in the league table - 2nd
Form vs bottom half teams - 3rd position (7 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss), 22 points out of 27.
Form vs top half teams - 6th position (2 wins, 2 draws, 2 losses), 8 points out of 18.
Attacking form - 2nd position (averaging 2.27 goals per game)
Defensive form - 9th position (averaging 1.2 goals against per game)

I know a lot of fans are concerned about our defensive form. Averaging 1.2 goals per game is one area that could do with improvement, however I am not too concerned as every year the top four teams usually concede an average of around 1 goal per game and to be fair to Liverpool, this season Man City, Chelsea, Manchester United and Spurs are also averaging 1 or more goals per game with Arsenal, Everton and Southampton being the only teams averaging less than 1.
Lets not forget that we have had injuries to Johnson, Enrique, Cissokho and Kelly who when fit are first and second choice fullbacks. We have also been chopping and changing our central defence for many reasons and due to the complacency of some of our midfielders not being able to keep the ball extra pressure has been heaped on our defence on many occasions. Once we can establish a successful centre back partnership and bring in another fullback i.e Montoya and/or Bertrand then I think we will have the strength and depth to create a solid back four.

We also need 1 or 2 midfielders who can not only keep the ball, but produce the killer pass/shot. One of our main problems is that some players find themselves in great positions but don't possess the quality to finish off the attack therefore players like Suarez and Sturridge have had to take on all the responsibility.

Imagine this scenario. Suarez is being forced wide in the attack, he cuts back and sees he has Allen or Henderson as his available options. What does he think in his mind? I'm guessing it would be something like this. "Do I pass and risk wasting this opportunity or do I take on these 3 defenders and get a shot away?". We have seen the latter so many times. Now imagine he is being forced wide, he cuts back and sees that Mata and Cabaye (for example) are available. He would feel much more confident with players around him that possess the quality to contribute in the attack.

I am sure Rodgers knows all this and will be looking to strengthen effectively in January. The only way is up, and hopefully we can get some good results over the Christmas period to give us that confidence going into the second half of the season.

Red Rum

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good post, but don't diss Allen quite yet.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just realisted that the top 4 all have excalty the same form over the past five games 3 wins 1 loss 1 draw

Agree0 Disagree0

Nick,
What I said is not a "diss". It is the reality. Allen is an ok player, he showed that at Swansea, but at the moment he is only ok. To his and our advantage he is only 23 and may well develop into a top player within the next few years and I hope he does. However, as it stands in a very close fight for the top four we need players who will go straight into the team and offer that attacking help, and quality in midfield.

Let me put it another way. Say Suarez picked up an injury tomorrow in training which will keep him out till january. Would you be confident that our team with no Sturridge, no Suarez and no Gerrard would be able to cope with Spurs, Cardiff, Man City and Chelsea over the festive period? I certainly wouldn't.

Red Rum

Agree0 Disagree0

Well we've got no Sturridge or Gerrard for the next while, and yes I'm still happy, but wouldn't be so confident if Suarez wasn't there obviously. As I said mate, I liked your post, but I thought you were harsh on Allen. Maybe I expect too much of him, but when he gets a run of games, I think we will see why Rodgers bought him. He will suit our playing style well, and he is more than capable in his offensive play. He has been unlucky with injuries, but I think he will brine of the best in the league come the end of next season. Maybe I'm wrong we will wait and see. I will hold up my hands and acknowledge my guilt if he doesn't, but I think he will be great for us. Just my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hopefully you are right Nick mate. I want all our players to become world class players. Some will and sadly some won't but Rodgers has invested a lot on future players and it might take a few years for the majority of them to reach their potential.

Of Rodgers 15 signings we have only 3 who have cemented their names in Rodgers' first team. Sturridge, Coutinho and Mignolet. If he can bring in 2 or 3 players in January who can have an effect NOW I think we will have a very, very good chance of achieving that top 4 finish.

we need to buy a left back and a midfielder in january to make top 4.
lets say we do not make top 4 suarez will proberly leave for big money in summer.
if we can buy 2 starters in january and we make cl football we would have spend most of our summer budget but we cl football and extra income.
if we do not make top 4 and suarez leaves we will have his fee money to build the team.
just a idea.

With a lot of head to heads happening between the top 4 and those chasing top 4 in the next few weeks there's a chance for those below to try and swap places by the half way stage.

We obviously play Everton today then city away and Chelski at home plus Newcastle and West ham away, while you have spurs city and Chelski away and Cardiff at home.

Do you think we will still both be in the top two going in the new year?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm one of the group who think Arsenal can go all the way. Especially if you get another good striker in January. I'd put money on you either winning the title, or being within 3 points of the winners.

I'm nervous about our fixtures, purely because we still don't have a 'best' CB partnership. Although seeing how Chelsea have been defending, and with a lot of the clubs just outside the top 4 seemingly unable to win matches, I'm still hopeful that we'll weather the storm.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hope we will be in top 2 with us 1st followed by you 2nd come may. Why we must restrict ourselves to new year?
ynwa

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought the half way stage was more predicable than May, that's the only reason Stg.
I thought before today we would have 45 points after 19 games and still do as expected Everton to be a points dropper for us

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Spurs and Cardiff are winnable games for us, I think we lose to City away and perhaps draw with Chelski.
I think you will lose to City aswell, I would guess wins against Chelski, Newcastle and West Ham.
So seven and nine out of twelve points for both teams, I think we might drop to third or fourth with you staying top.

I thought we were really awesome attacking agaisnt West Ham, the way we moved the ball, kept the ball, regained the ball. West Ham defended well, but we broke them down in the first half though the momentum of sheer bloody good football, it was wave after wave after wave. I thought I saw the signs of something for the first time and a bit of believe from the team, we were not reliant on Gerrard or Lucas and even rumours in Barcelona they were calling Xavi the spanish Allen. For the first time I thought we were pure sex on the ball. Were still dodgy as hell at the back, but I'm really enjoying watching Liverpool football.

Hai Ed. Great Sunday Mng to you and your fellow mates.
I think we should go all out and get Dembele from Spurs. 20 mill. and that's it. they have plenty of options in their team and he would blossom our midfield. would start all the games for us.
No point int searching around Europe.
Either Dembele or Ramirez from chelsea. and that's top 4 giaanteed

Believable0 Unbelievable0

A good shout, but that would mean one of Allen or Henderson leaving I think. Besides, I really can't see Spurs selling to us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Please no, not Ramirez, I'd rather stick with the players we've got. Over rated and under performing. Leave him to the plastics.

Think cabaye would be a decent signing too

So what result would everyone want today?

Everton win and we close the gap on arsenal?
Or
Arsenal beat the bitters they grab another 3 points but it widens the gap between Everton and us?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's a win-win situation for us! But, IMO, an Arsenal win is better as it will widen the gap to Everton to 3 points, and they stay in 5th. We are fighting for a CL place, simple.

Agree0 Disagree0

Draw be nice

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsenal will also end up fighting for a CL spot. I've seen Arsenal's bubble burst consistently over the last few seasons and I see nothing to suggest it won't happen again (as it does many other teams).

A draw is good but fair play to Everton when we all think that they could steal a win which is great for Merseyside football. We have two of the best young managers in the country in the area.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tough one. I say Everton win. Might keep the pressure up on Liverpool to produce the goods in a string of up-coming tough fixtures.

I would deffinately like to see an Arsenal win

Everton won't win at Emirates. They are no better than us. Arsenal are on sublime form. they would Beat Barca now.

Agree0 Disagree0

If Arsenal win today, they will go 7 points clear at the top, 15 games into the season. They have Podolski and Walcott to come back and add to the competition and quality of their team. They are also looking to sign a striker and taking all this into consideration and how consistent they have been this season, while other, including ourselves, are not so consistent, I think they could well run away with the PL this time around.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just focused on LFC games, not to fussed about what everyone else does.

That pretty much settles it Harry. Arsenal win.

I don't know about the other fans but I think Henderson just runs up and down the pitch and shadows the opposition. I haven't seen a proper tackle where he won the ball cleanly. His work rate is immense but never poses a threat. He does a lot of off the ball work but he needs to do more on the ball stuff too if he wants to be world class. YNWA

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Completely agree, he needs to get stuck in, and he's 6ft but he never seems to win headers.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ah u will get pelters now. but I agree with u, he's shots on goal and he's effectiveness on the ball are quite poor, but as u said he's worktate is immense and sometimes u need that, but its ok doing that v palace west ham and d like, when we play these few games like d arsenal game u want something out of him, he's lacked that big time . sissoko from newcastle is a prime example of someone who does what henderson does and then offers u something more

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on he offers nothing in the final third.

Agree0 Disagree0

Apparently he is one of the hardest workers in training too. I think Henderson need a lucky break season, just like Ramsey at Arsenal this season, and that should hopefully give him the confidence to step up a level.

Agree0 Disagree0

What lucky break did Ramsey get?

Agree0 Disagree0

Jordan needs to know that work rate alone isn't enough, look at Allen he tackles, makes interceptions, presses high, plays with intensity and gets into the box a lot for a CM (where hendo only does the three middle things). point being allen contributes in defence, ball retention, distribution and is creative in the final 3rd henderson needs to add creativity and dribbling to his game & doing so without looking awkward.

Agree0 Disagree0

He doesn't need to add dribbling, u can't just add dribling, i'm guna add 180s to my dart throwing! he need to use the ball quicjer and get the ball out of his feet and use it better is all, be more incisive, practise his passing, if i'm honest with a full fit squad he justifys d odd start, v good squad player but if we add the def mid u all crave on ere he's a sub

Agree0 Disagree0

If he lost his place I imagine you would all notice. He's the only player with energy in the midfield. We need more like that, not less. I do agree in that he should be offering a lot more to the team than he is currently. But I strongly think it's a lack of confidence rather than a lack of talent. AG made the comparison to Ramsey and I agree there, Henderson is still very young and I feel he could have a complete turn around like Ramsey and become a beast of a player. He needs to be more of a threat in the final third and bring some goals to his game, a few goals should do him the world of good.

Agree0 Disagree0

The things he tried every season before this, never paid off and the fans were calling for his head. Now, after persistence, the same things he used to try in the previous seasons, are going for him.

Agree0 Disagree0

He does what Kuyt did for us, and he was forever bitched about. Except we really missed him when he went. Hassle, close down, tackle, offer an option. Why do you think he gets games? Thank the heavens Buck is the manager and not someone off here.

Agree0 Disagree0

You need different parts to a team. His running creates options and space for more of the technical players. His closing down reduces options for the opposition. We are 2nd in the league because of the team and he is pivitol at the moment.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why o why do Liverpool supporters constantly have to slag our players of we're 2nd in the league and op still not happy get a life.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Dec 2013 06:21:09
Great result today even though I'd give us only 7.5 out of 10 for performance.
It's important to win when you haven't played at your best and you can't argue with 4-1. Defence, again, was at 6's and 7's. Much hard work needed there. We were lucky West Ham United are poor finishers.
Spurs have bounced back from a Citeh pounding but they are still vulnerable. 1-1 with Manchester United doesn't look too good in context and they struggled for 2 scrappy late wins against Fulham and Sunderland. If we attack them like we have in our last 2 games then we can take the points. The defence needs a lot of work though.

1 game at a time lads!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree, but the own-goal apart, I thought the CB's looked OK. The ful-backs were quite poor, as usual. Johnson was just downright infuriating, giving the ball away on numerous occasions and for their goal, Flanagan and Sterling didn't put up much of a challenge and the cross was delivered too easily and Johnson let Jarvis jump over him and win a header! Jarvis is shorter than Sterling I think!

I think come summer, the right-back spot is one that BR needs to look at seriously, as for me, Johnson is having his worst season at LFC.

Fantastic to see we too have a player that runs at defences and shoots/curls the ball round the keeper. shame he's on loan to Stoke. Never understood that. Assaidi was one of the few that actually ran AT opponents and put them on the back foot, never mind, hey, worse things happen is Zambia as they say.

With Stevie G looking to be out for a few weeks it's time for the others to either step up or step off altogether. It will be good for us fans too, to actually see how good our other midfielders are. I've heard whispers that we play a faster tempo with Stevie G and are more dynamic. let's see it then.
Hoping and praying for a good December - because in Jan we will strengthen and will be easier with everyone back. YNWA

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Assaidi needs to do much more. One goal in how many games? That's why he's on loan, he hasn't earned a place in LFC's first team yet.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's a learning experience for him and if he does well, he will be considered again in the summer. He has scored a couple of excellent goals, but has been used as a sub a lot.
