I know it's stupid saying but I would give an arm to have the finnan Carragher hyypia riise back four back, finnan always reliable, nothing special but did his job every week, and not a bad crosser, riise strong quick and with an attacking threat, complemented each other brilliantly! Same with Carragher and hyypia, Sami won every header, a true beast. And everyone knows what Carragher does, especially the organisation! That back four with this team would be special

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It was a great back four. But it needed to be. The style of football under the previous managers meant we defended for our lives and never pushed up higher than the 18yd box. The FA cup final against Arsenal being a good example. They were good players, Hypia and Carra were brilliant but I don't think any of them are suited to Rodgers style of play.
Under Rodgers we try to be the best team on the day instead of worrying about the opposition and their strengths. I prefer the Rodgers way without wishing to disrespect our previous managers.

Agree0 Disagree0

I always felt that finnan and rise were technicaly strong, good going forward but struggled defensively

Like most, I would have loved a Chelsea Spurs draw. That said, I am generally happy with the gap to spurs in fifth. I would still take a guaranteed fourth, anything higher is great and gives us a benchmark for coming seasons. Like others have said, it also helps attract top players.
The Utd game isn't make or break, though I think 3 points is quite realistic. For the first time in a while I'd be disappointed with a draw at OT.

I suppose a Chelsea victory is the second best result we could have hoped for. Six points ahead of Spurs in 5th place, with a game in hand. Fair enough Chelsea are 7 points clear, but at the same time top 4 was always the aim. Obviously its still all to play for but if we get top 4 that's a huge achievement itself. With United undoubtedly going to spend big in the summer, getting top 4 will mean we can match them as an attractive move for big players. I feel if we get top 4 this season, it will be a great season for us. When you look at the team, it looked as if we were going to rely on Suarez and maybe Gerrard again this season, but the likes of Sturridge, Coutinho, Sterling, Henderson and even Flanagan have all stepped up this season. I genuinely feel if we had a much more solid and injury-free defence we would be top this season. Nevertheless, there is still 30 points available and the United game is more of a must not lose than a must win. As long as we can put away the smaller teams like we have been doing this season we should be fine. The United game is the priority for now though, win it and we are flying, lose it and the pressure is on. By the way, don't rule out United. Fair enough we are 11 points ahead, but lose the game next week and that gap looks a hell of a lot smaller. I wouldn't rule them out just yet.

Off topic, sad to see Brian O'Driscoll playing his last home game today in the rugger! Been a great player for us and I'm glad he got the send off he deserved. Showed he still has the class he's always had today, and he will be a big loss for us now he's retired. Just have to complete the easy task of beating the French next week (he said with tongue in cheek) and he will get a winners send off!

Would be ideal if we got top 4 and Ireland won the Six Nations!
Cheers,

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I was at the Ireland Italy rugby game today, great send off for BOD. What an ambassador for the game. Great challenge ahead of Liverpool but well with their capability. I think top 4 is nailed on but regardless of what happens we must be seriously happy with the progress we've made this season.

Ed01/02, Is Louis Van Gaal poised for Spurs job? or you fancy Moyes getting out end of the summer and UTD going after him?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Spurs have spoken with Van Gaal already. Moyes doesn't come in to it.}

Steady Moyes is doing ok where he is ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Has Van Gaal agreed to go to Spurs then ed? Or are they just discussing it at the moment?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Nothing is finalised.}

08 Mar 2014 19:13:26
Ed fellow reds, think that will take spuds out of top 4 equation .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

08 Mar 2014 19:30:56
Yeah, But that would mean we loose on the title, If spurs ever spend some good money on getting a decent manager, they would have done something better, Chelsea were poor in the first half, and they were to be taken, Oscar came in for Lampard and made the difference, and Etto was brilliant, diving, swimming.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Spurs will be getting a new manager in the summer - Van Gaal.}

ed001
whenever people mention players you tend to disagree with their views of them and their quality, aswell as their attitudes on/off the pitch. I'd just like to ask who you'd like Liverpool to sign and be happy with? not just Gary Medel ;)
thanks in advance!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - there are hundreds of players I would like us to get, I am sorry but I am not going to sit here and list them all.}

Go on ;) just one or two? maybe a cb, cm and cf
ta :)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - here is little point, as the ones I would like we are unlikely to move for, in fact it is certain that the minute I name them as players I want us to sign they will not be a target! I mean I would love players like Vidal, Javi Martinez, Pogba etc, but they are out of reach. Anytime I name a player I would like that is within our club's reach, it seems like the club walks away from any possibility of striking a deal, like we did with Keisuke Honda. Or just show no interest, like with Medel. Or we don't push through a deal because the price is too high, like with Rakitic.}

I think I have the same luck, I would also lI've Vidal Logan etc. I would really like to see Sven bender, Luke Shaw, Koke, Draxler, Volland haha any of them which attacking players do you like?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I like all of them, but none are likely to be signing for us, Wijnaldum and Clasie looked real talents a couple of years back, but not watched either play since then.}

Completely agree on Vidal ed, if we get top four is he still out of reach? Bpl is more of an attraction than Serie A surely? Not disputing Juventus' position as a club in any way but if we can compete UCL wise wouldn't we be at a similar level as Juve?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - out of reach mate. Juve have aspirations of winning titles, we are still only looking at qualifying for the Champions League.}

3-0 flattered United today.
I know there are no guarantees in football (I'm typing this on a wooden computer just in case) but we should smash them next Sunday.

After a promising first half by both sides, the 2nd 45 showed a lot of effort from everyone. Good build up play and both sides just lacking in the final third. The ref brought the game to a finish with the scoreline at 1-1. On balance of play there wasn't much between the two sides and both coaches will be pleased with the result. Randall, Wilson and Kent made a late appearance in the 2nd half with the Reading game in midweek obviously in Neil Critchley's mind.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Didn't watch much but Canos a few times seemed to be beating men 3 at a time. If Sinclair can improve his right foot then he can be a serious player in the future. Other than that the composure on the ball by the back 4 would put our first team to shame.

A lively opening 45mins at Carrington. Utd started the brighter with good pressing high up the pitch which lead to the opening goal. Trickett-Smith was dispossessed in the centre. The ball worked out to the left and a good cross converted by Fletcher to give Utd the lead on 8mins.
Liverpool came back into the match with a fantastic goal on 12mins. Sergi Canos collected the ball on the half way line, tight to the touchline. Beating several challenges he worked his way into the edge of the box on the right hand side and drilled his cross for the on rushing Trickett-Smith to make amends and power his pass into the Utd net.
A very entertaining half saw chances at both ends, Utd saw a shot come back off the post and 1-1 half time score probably a fair reflection of the play.

Banter please Eds,

Listed in alphabetical order below are 9 football clubs.

Blackpool
Bristol city
Cardiff city
Charlton athletic
Leicester city
Oldham athletic
Queens park rangers
Southampton
Watford

2 part question,,

Can anyone tell me firstly, the connection between these 9 clubs,

And secondly, the numerical total amassed representing this unfortunate scenario.

The 1st correct answer wins a day out at Whipps Cross Hospital, to partner Jack wilshere for the 3 monthly run, three legged egg and spoon race. to prevent further injury to wilshere, and for health & safety purposes, plastic spoons & rubber eggs will be used.

Good luck.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

They are all professional English football clubs. Unfortunately for these clubs none of them have ever been based in France, or Spain, or even Singapore. Therefore, in total, these 9 clubs have spent many days based in England.

Agree0 Disagree0

They have all been relegated from the top flight with most goals conceded?
Either that or they have all been Graham Taylored in some form or otherffor more than a day

Agree0 Disagree0

El Pi--edolero, correct in your own analogy, but no El Pi at all in unearthing the right answer.

G62 not sure what would be favorite,, getting " Graham Taylored or Brendan Rodgered.

However, with only 2 entrants " both incorrect " jack will have to hop about on his own for the day.

The Answer = All 9 have finished runners up in the Premier league/1st division since it began, on just the 1 occasion, without ever winning it. and they amassed between them on those 9 occasions 511 points.

Sh-t Quiz,, won't happen again.

Ed001, I have watches dani parejo many times this season, he's a descent player. I believe there.is some interest in him from us but IMO his price will be too much and we have a younger superior player in suso. what's your opinion if we seek dani parejo edd?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I don't see the need for him personally, as you pointed out, Suso is a better player.}

Whatever happens with players coming and going this summer we should trust the people in charge of them and especially Rodgers if we carry on this form.

Agree0 Disagree0

Imo the plan should we sell suso should be upgrade not buy similar quality that roberto firmino we have meant to have been looking at is a upgrade on suso and coutinho right now we need more goals from midfield

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed how is suso getting on this season?has he been playing weell and has he improved from being on loan?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - He has been doing very well.}

Hate the weekends when we don't have a game. Just have to put all my efforts into the Chelsea Spurs match I suppose. Hoping for a draw. I know people are getting excited about the prospect of winning the league, but I'm still worried about 4th at the minute! Think I'll start to relax a bit if we get a result at OT.
My dad is a big blue nose, so I wish Everton all the best today in the cup. Should be a good game.

First of I'm a die hard Manchester United fan but have a lot of respect for Liverpool as a club I do enjoy are banter as long as it doesn't cross the line it's great I just wanted to say well done on your season so far and as a Manchester United fan I don't want you to win the league but you have a great chance and would fully deserve it if you did the champions leage not the same without you and let's hope next season we sort ourselfs out and the games between us are bigger than ever

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Be jebus! Fair play on the post my friend, I'm half thinking I'm still bladders from last night ;-)

Do you think DM will still be your end of the East lancs next year?

Yeah I really do we don't want to be like Chelsea sack managers every 6 months and I'll give dm the time he needs

Agree0 Disagree0

All the time he needs? Forever is a long time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nick,

Moyes is a good manager. He's proven that. He's filling the biggest boots possible, and finding it difficult. Not to mention he has an aging team. His back line is terrible. It was never going to be an easy year. I think it's foolish to say he doesn't deserve time. Respect to you RedDevilMichael

Agree0 Disagree0

Good to see a post like this. I think Moyes is a decent manager but not United standard. Fergie dealt him a bad hand with the players at his disposal and I think his fate and the fate of Manchester United in the next couple of seasons rests on the summer transfer window. The mancs aren't short of money so it all depends on how the bloke spends it, a couple of decent signings here and there might see them do better next season. Still not sure of Moyes as manager of Manchester United but if their results keep going how they are I'm not going to complain!

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanxs TJRed I've backed david moyes from day one but what does make me laugh is we have 1 really bad season in the league in the last 20 years and all of sudden Liverpool fans think we are finish

Agree0 Disagree0

TJ. Moyes is exactly that - a good manager. That's it though. I have spent the last 20 years watching United win so much mainly due to the fact that they had a GREAT manager, as much as it hurts to say it. Ferguson has shown that it is possible to get the team playing better than it's collective parts, and winning games due to nothing other than sheer will. Moyes hasn't got that, and he never will. It's a different level that he just won't be able to reach. Admittedly, there's not many mangers that can do that to a team. On a side note I have found myself willing to believe that Brendan might just be able to get that from his team - the signs since probably the loss to Southampton have been excellent. Anyway, the longer they keep a true top level manager out of Old Trafford, the happier I will be. And Moyes is perfect as far as I am concerned. With a little bit of luck he will dither about in the summer transfer and end up blowing his budget on another Fellaini or two. Saying all of that, fair play to the United fan for being a gentleman and giving Moyes time, but from the outside, to me it is blindingly bl**dy obvious that David Moyes will struggle like hell to bring regular silverware to Old Trafford.

Agree0 Disagree0

Moyes is not suited to a team that plays attacking football, he held Everton back for years.

Banter Please Eds if possible.

So i'm just up in the Hospital Lads after Tearing the ACL in my Right Knee during my Usual Friday Night Footy game *Sigh*, First Bad Injury I've had (im 24) while Sitting here waiting 2 leave was just Wondering have any of you lads had a serious Injury b4 how long were yas out? just Curious . Cheers Lads G'lk

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ouch! I tore my right ACL when I was 32. Nothing dirty, just lodged my foot in the astroturf while turning. Went back to football a couple of years later although not at a competitive level this time, and soon enough ruptured the left ACL (yeah losing one is bad luck, 2 is careless). The first one was operated on in London, the 2nd in Qatar where I was working at the time. My left knee feels much stronger than my left even though I'm right footed, and I put this down to good and prompt physiotherapy. In london it was 6 weeks before they even got me in for physio but in Qatar where I was operated on by the national team surgeon, I had barely come round from the anaesthetic and the physio was sitting at my bedside! Obviously since then I've taken a keen interest in players who tear the ACL, and my theory is that those who do it while they are still relatively young usually go on to continue at much the same levels as before. But those like Gazza who tear them in their 30s are already approaching or have entered the twilight of their careers and the injury just knocks them back further. Anyway remember what I said about physio; get onto it straight away and put in the hours at home too. You're only 24 and with a successful rehab should be able to play again much as you were before the injury.

Agree0 Disagree0

Broke my tib and fib very low down. 50/50 I won but got caught really late.

strained my ankle ligaments on astro turf and the pain was 10 times worse than the break!

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm 21 and I tore my ACL last year, had it operated it on in November. At first, I personally had a lot of problems getting my knee straight which was worrying the staff. Managed to get it straight, or it went straight by itself who knows but now I'm pretty far into my rehab, swimming, rowing, jogging. I've still got a long way to go, but the physio's impressed. After your surgery a day or so after, start to attempt the exercises they give you, it's worth knowing what you can and can't do and then work towards a goal. I'm weary about playing football at the same level again, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there. Good luck with the surgery and what not!

Agree0 Disagree0

Broke my jaw in two places a couple of years back, excruciatingly painful. Don't know what was worse, not being able to play rugby or football for a good few months or not being able to eat solid food

Agree0 Disagree0

It is a lot easier to recover from an acl now than it was 10 to15 years ago.

I ruptured mine and 1993 took me 3 years to get back playing at a semi pro level. Did my other acl when I was 32 took 9 months to get back.

Had loads of ops since. The only advice I can give is take your time with the rehab, work hard getting your quads strong and you will be fine.

Agree0 Disagree0

Worst I had was a torn achilles, never felt pain like it

Agree0 Disagree0

Tore my abdominal muscle when I was 13, I was out for 2 months.

Dislocated my knee at 18 and was out for 15 weeks.

Car crash when I was 20. metal plate straight through my knee tearing my tendons and cartillage. out for 18 months officially doing rehab, didn't play sport again till I was 22/23

Agree0 Disagree0

Word of advice, DO NOT push yourself too soon, I did that after the dislocation, just listen to how the DR's advise you to strengthen and recuperate, If you push yourself too much as I did, you will more then likely make it worse.
