Understand that Liverpool are very unlikely to be looking at him, but I was wondering if anyone has been looking at Corentin Tolisso of Lyon?

Hey eds was wondering if you could or anyone else tell me when the replay is planned to be scheduled for and will it make any difference to the game vs united on the 21st as i live in ireland and have booked up to go over for the game i'm just hoping the game won't be moved. Cheers

{Ed002's Note - It won't impact a league game.}

Hi Ed002. Now that Liverpool have got their finances completely in order, and have a good young manager who gets the best out of all his players, Do you expect them to invest heavily in the squad again this summer? As a fan I feel that lfc are certainly on the up swing and feel excited for the future. We're certainly in good hands!

Believable3 Unbelievable9

{Ed002's Note - I really have no idea what you are talking about. You obviously don't understand the finances of the club, the large amount of debt the club is carrying nor the FFP regulations.}

08 Mar 2015 18:30:46
Ed I know the net debt went up £12m does that mean our debt is around £120m now? And what percentage split is that with regards to who it's owed to, owners, banks etc?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I don't want to get in to the detail as it confuses too many people but the total debt was in excess of £130M for the 2013/14 financial year that has just been reported. This year will start seeing that grow (as expected) because of work beginning on the stadium.}

08 Mar 2015 22:14:10
Good young manager ??????

The rose tinted fools have returned.

£120 million spent and our finances are in order ?

Have you seen the wage bill ??

What a weird post !

What is up with you the op and other folk on this site, I myself have read to excellent replies from Ed002 today, one referring to FFP and the other to what Ed002 thinks the summer will bring. Both are very easy to understand and the one on FFP let's you know where the club stand now and in the near future!

So instead of you posting the same crap take a little time and read up and you will or should understand the currant situation our club is in. We Liverpool football club have not yet got our finances in order.

We might be moving in the right direction but with renovating our stadium amongst other things, it will take a few yrs for this great club to be in order of debt and FFP.
Us as fans will have to support our club and the owners who are doing a damn good job will sort the finances out am sure.

Jut curious: do you think the ongoing, delayed signings of Sterling and Henderson have anything to do with them wanting assurances Rogers will remain the manager next season?

So I had some good news last night. Turns out, me and my dad are going on the Anfield tour,
Would be incredible to go and watch a match on the same weekend, and we can pretty much book the your when we like, so here's my question,

In terms of finding a couple of tickets, am I better off spending hours on hold to the ticket office, using a website or what?

Cheers reds!!

Hello Ed002. Do you think Liverpool will approach Spurs for Harry Kane as we are a much bigger club than Spurs. Rodgers also has a brilliant record of developing young players?

Believable1 Unbelievable6

{Ed002's Note - No I can't see that happening. I am not so sure that Rodgers has a "brilliant" record of developing young players either. If you are thinking of the likes of Ibe and Ojo, then the credit goes to the Academy staff and not to Rodgers.}

08 Mar 2015 14:38:12
You could say that about every manager at every club Ed

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Yes, of course. I have never suggested otherwise.}

08 Mar 2015 15:58:37
Surely Rogers must get some credit for improving Sterling, Hendo, Couts, Can, Sturridge etc.

{Ed002's Note - Sure but they are all first team players.}

09 Mar 2015 04:29:40
Ed002, don't liverpool bring a lot more youngsters from their academy into their first team than Chelsea do?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - So the obsession with Chelsea continues.}

09 Mar 2015 08:02:40
Yes they do Hendostheman. But they also bring in a lot less in recent years than United, Arsenal, Soton, Spurs etc, so if it's just numbers that matter all you're really saying is we're not the worst which is irrelevant

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Mar 2015 02:55:56
Chelsea bring players thru BUT they rare if not never, get to play for the first team on a consistent basis. Then again, Chelsea is not the standard for measuring success on that front so using them as a comparison is unfair and misleading

Hi Eds,

Just out of curiosity, how do leaks come out regarding contract negotiations? As has been stated before it is common for it to happen, but surely something the club or player want getting out.

Thanks in advance,
Matt

Hi Ed

Did the club want Henderson out or was it Bendon that wanted him out?

I sort of remember he was struggling to fit in Rogers format at the start

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Brendan but at the time he was in full charge of all transfer decisions and so he represented the club in that decision.}

08 Mar 2015 12:50:14
When a manager joins any club there are always players that they don't think will fit into their systems. A lot of clubs sell those players and they go on to be very good for other teams. Fortunately, Hendo decided to stay and worked hard to get where he is now.

Maybe because BR's system is lame and most players look ineffective in it! Thank god he's been forced to change it( 3 seasons in a row)

08 Mar 2015 15:49:31
It depends on what players you have available Swish. No system will work if you don't have the correct players to suit the system.

08 Mar 2015 20:21:38
Swishcleaner its called adapting, Martinez at Everton showing lack of adaption and look how that is turning out !
Rogers has adapted and achieved.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Mar 2015 22:24:18
Red-rum most of they players were bought by BR so they should fit his system!? Otherwise why but them. it's onvioys his system doesn't work as he had 3 seasons giving it a go. The high pressing system is what works for us and the players- any person could see that yet we're constantly playing catch up because of the prior system.

Begball- he wouldn't have to had 'adapt' if he just continued to use the system that worked for us. As for achievement- 1 top 4 place in 3 seasons, exit at the group stages of CL ( and in first round of europa), 200 million spent. I wouldn't say that's a great achievement. I sincerely hope we do get the CL spot and win the FA cup but we could
Easily fishing up without either.

Agree2 Disagree0

09 Mar 2015 00:19:10
Fair comment Swishcleaner, but I just see that he is young manager at his first big club and all that, that brings. Comes in with a plan in mind that involves a complete culture change and way of playing.
He is learning and adapting as he goes as is the whole club, but last year the system was set up to get the best out of Suarez, then when he leaves you have to adjust again, find different ways of working ( I am starting to sound like him now lol). I actually think Rogers has shown good flexibility and tactical awareness, but if something doesn`t work right away sometimes you got to take the short term pain for the long term gain. We are definitely going in the right direction and it would be a sin to let the manager go, along with all that he has learned over the last few years, to another club who would in a way gain from our investment in him.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Mar 2015 01:27:56
I think he's worth staying with as we have a young squad and a lot of new signings but he needs to get us playing from week 1 not week 18. It's frustrating to watch though as he did have suarez last year but could have bought 2 class strikers that suited that system rather than lamber and balo ( both who I like) but don't really suit how we play. I see this season as a water opportunity as we Will undoubtedly b looking again for another striker to replace suarez even though he's been gone a year.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Mar 2015 02:57:01
At that rate, we will spend ten yrs replacing Suarez.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Mar 2015 03:03:04
Why are people complaining about how much players get? The money is there on offer to b gotten and if the agent is a good agent and can persuade the club to pay what others would call stupid wages for his client then God bless them. It's not as if the clubs are being robbed at gun point. I have no prob with it because these players gave up and sacrificed a lot to get to where they are and if I was in their shoes, I'd do the exact same thing I.e get the best deal you can and to do that IMO, you need an awesome agent.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Mar 2015 10:00:19
All players in football are overpaid however there's only growing trend now with younger players having one good season and demanding ridiculous money next season.
I hope we keep our best players at the club but if we give sterling a ridiculous contract in a seasonal where he has been submitted standard then others at the club will think why not. Look at the rooney situation. Ridiculous wages he doesn't warrant which has attracted players such as falcoa and di Maria to the club who have been poor but paid significant wages.
Hendersons had a few great games and suddenly there's a contract situation. The club should should not be held to ransom

Footballers are over-paid? How so? Very very few professional footballers make it to the Premier League and even less stay there for very long. The money is there, it exists and it isn't going to go anywhere except into somebody's pockets somewhere along the line. If it wasn't paid out in wages to players then it would probably end up in the pockets of the (even richer) club owners.

Top flight professional football is part of the entertainments industry. Top film stars and rock stars earn considerably more. At the end of the day the wages reflect consumer demand for the product.

Agree8 Disagree0

08 Mar 2015 15:21:23
Money in football is insane, but I think that a lot of footballers justify their wage.

Given they're the ones that do the business on the field which leads to the clubs making money, it's only fair.

Surely the responsibility is on clubs to judge whether players are having a purple patch when they start negotiating salaries or when they are the real deal, and offer new salaries accordingly - not the player to admit they aren't that good and ask for a lower wage?

And come to that - most 'contract situations' are because players are running very close to the end of their contracts, less than two years and sometimes less than 1 year. Not just because they've had a few good games

Not Liverpool-related but I've been thinking about how ed001 said that Gerrard held too much power over Liverpool. However, in my opinion, individuals having too much power in a club is an unfortunate symptom for many of the biggest clubs, not just Gerrard with Liverpool. For example, Messi with Barca, Rooney with United, Totti and De Rossi with Roma, Ronaldo with Real, Yaya with City, Thiago Silva with PSG (I don't think anyone can still bring themselves to believe that PSG paid a world-record fee for a defender for David Luiz). Although the above players might not really have as much as power as it seems, it does seem like those clubs do everything to cater to their needs, and it is worrying when players seem to hold the most power in the dressing room when it should be the manager/head coach who should be in control. Thoughts?

Believable2 Unbelievable3

08 Mar 2015 08:39:11
That's life. Whoever you are dependent most on has the most power on you. What the powerful individual does with it is up to them and the club has to decide how much they are willing to take or risk the consequences of them going. Messi alone brought Barcelona more trophies and fans over the world and income than probably hunderdes of players before him combined. It is the same as in any business. If you have a company with one worker who is the only one who can make their product work and sell millions of it, no one will say a word if he comes to work at 12;00 and go home at 15:00. I don't see huge issues if it is the players rather than the managers who have more power as long as it works for the club and for Barcelona it seems to work. If the players use their power to abuse someone weak in the club (man or woman) and this goes unnotice becuase of their power than it is a problem. If it is the manager than who cares. If Messi is willing come to Liverpool and demands his father becomes the manager that is ok with me.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - so you don't think it is a problem when it is Messi that has driven quality players like Alexis Sanchez out of the club? Also that his power came and the club stopped winning everything? It is a team game and you need the team to work together, which means you can't have one player having more power than the rest and still expect it to work well in the long term.}

08 Mar 2015 09:09:27
When a player starts to get too much power it's time to get rid. Fergie did it with keane, beckham, Ronaldo etc and was still successful.

Agree13 Disagree1

08 Mar 2015 10:29:19
The reason Sanchez was "driven out " was because he was never going to replace Messi in the team, and they replaced him with Suarez who is by far a better player

Agree5 Disagree2

{Ed002's Note - Suarez may soon be sacrificed by Barcelona as they will find it very difficult to sell Messi as they look for funds to start rebuilding.}

08 Mar 2015 12:11:05
Do u know of the interested clubs who want and can afford Suarez Ed002? Would be gutted if he played for another BPL club than LFC. Hopefully Bayern, Atletico or PSG will snap him up before Chelsea or City try something ambitious.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any clubs interested at this time - many wouldn't touch him given that any further misbehaviour could result in a very significant ban. The suspicion remains that interest from Arsenal could be rekindled. It is also thought that the player could dig his heels in and stay at Barcelona - who I think would be happy to let him stay but they do need to raise money.}

09 Mar 2015 08:14:26
Of course it's a problem that a player has more control than the manager but then it's part of the managers job to keep/regain the control without damaging the job. Managers are not innately talented at football or extremely physically able people (or at least there is no need for them to be). They are given the wages and positions they are in to make sure the club keeps winning and if they can't win and pander to the player, then they need to do something about it. If they can't, then at best you can say they weren't right for the club at that time.

Hi eds, I was watching the u21s against Chelsea on Monday and thought Daniel Cleary had a great game at centre half against a really promising Chelsea forward, I heard the commemtator talking about a policy of getting debuts by the age of 19 so I was wondering if you (or anyone posters) know if the club rate him or have plans for him to go on loan soon?
Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - defenders often take longer to mature, but the club has been looking for the right loan move for him. He is seen as a possible, rather than probable.}

I applauded his new tough guy act, but he doesn't need to aim it at the club. He could be playing next to lee catermole fighting relegation, or even at fulham in the championship. Needs to reel his neck in and thank the club for giving him opportunities and time.

Agree1 Disagree4

{Ed001's Note - except that the club wanted him out and he stood his ground and fought for his place, so why should he thanks the club for that? He did it.}

If Coutinho is on around 70k a week, then there is no way Hendo or Sterling should be offered better deals than him. The club should tell these two to improve even more in the next couple of seasons if they want 100k a week or more. Too many English players think they have made it before winning anything meaningful.

Agree7 Disagree2

08 Mar 2015 19:49:06
It isn't about how much one player is paid in relation to another, you organise a contract based on a players bargaining power usually. it just so happens that we've let Henderson and Sterling run their deals close and they know and should be expected to fully leverage their position against the club in order to get a bigger salary or leave the club and get another large contract and a signing on fee.

The fact Coutinho signed a contract where he is now paid 70k (I don't even know is this is true) has no bearing on Hendersons position or Sterlings. Either player knows they can get more out of a new contract than they are being offered (I assume).

I like the fact we are trying to pay players what they are worth and not much more than that.
