I hope I'm wrong but I just don't think downing is right for us. For some players it just doesn't work at some clubs. In my opinion sadly this is the case.

I disagree. Downing is top drawer when he's on form. The problem is we haven't seen it this year but in flashes. Don Hutchinson said today that he thinks Downing just doesn't have self belief. If he scored in the opener vs Sunderland or today with the volley ir would have done him the world of good. Expect him to be vastly improved next season. He need to realize that he just needs to play football. Some stick he taken hasn't helped but personally I'd take him any day over Ashley Young. This time next year you can hammer me if I'm wrong but wait and see.

Chi-Paul

I agree with chi-paul his chances created stats if i remember is very good, not his fault 9 out of 10 times not enough players in the box or missed shots that would have been assists

How hard can it be get in touch with Blackburn buy Robinson & hoilett for combined fee of 7.5 mil , then say to Renia pack yer bags and flog him for 15 mil then say to Johnson you are now our right winger, any back chat sell him for 15 mil ,and buy a world class right winger  for 20 mil  use the summer money from the owners and money left over approx 32 mil and a world class striker , sell aqua,spearing , kuyt, cole , maxi and buy a midfielder for about 10 -15 mil

Teapot {Ed003's Note - I know what you mean,how hard can it be to do simple things like that}

Probably fairly easy on xbox

Lol...I can see why you are called Teapot!

Teapot you have lost the plot

Liverpool great win tonight, however we still need to strengthen on the wing and left back cover aswell as another striker.

Possibly, Nicolai Boilesen/Aly Cissokho, Belhanda/Coutinho and Luuk De Jong/Negredo

saying that we'll probably end up with; Nathaniel Clyne, Hoilett and Clint Dempsey - would like to see us bid for Sigurdsson though.

Sky commentators raised a good point about us needing to have a big squad for europa league next season so trying to keep maxi and kuyt etc may be of option to us.

J. RED.

We need more than 3 signings maybe 5/6 with around 7 or so Out.
Anyway i would b happy if we signed CLYNE-young solid british RB replacement for Johnson and slowly move Kelly to CB.
For ST- Luuk De Jong and J. Martinez

A playmaker type, in the hole player n winger like Silva/Nasri type
G. Ramirez/kagawa
If not go for Demsey/Dembele/Sigurdson
RW- Belhanda/Susaeta/A.johnson/Hoillet ??
Also im not sure for LB cover, Clyne cud play ther wen Enriques out with kelly at RB. Robbo&Flanno Loan
??

F5.

Aly cissokho will NEVER move to be a BACK UP. {Ed016's Note - agreed, as well as he shouldnt be a back up}

I don't think cissokho will settle for back up when the mancs( in debt) see him as a replacement for Mr. Cries a lot.

The Andy Carroll detractors are well and truly noticeable by their absence tonight,oh and where's that ridiculous SHED END come to think of it ?? B

Keep getting carried away lads you're just setting yourself up for a bigger fall next season, its been 20 years you know, and at the end of every one you've all claimed that next year will be the one, things are on the up. Its not going to happen for you, as a top club you're finished forever.

Also, i think you'll lose a lot more sleep about the final than i will about a glorified friendly against our reserves

SHED END

Viva Bayern v Kings road arrogance! yet again expressed by person directly above.Terrys lovechild?

I dont think theres gonna be much of a final shed end. im thinking another 3-0 Bayern up at half. and only god knows what the final score might be. So yes, if like you say I have lost sleep over it, i will be able to take a nap after the first 45 as the game will already be over

That "friendly" cost you 4th so there is no champions league for you when Terrys crying again after the final!

A glorified friendly that cost you champions league football cos you have not got a prayer v Bayern. I can't wait to see the tears.

Gazman {Ed016's Note - The tears are a season highlight for me, love seeing frank and terry crying, money can't get you everything. I truly do not see them beating Bayern}

Shed end, no sour grapes from me i know this result was against a poor chelsea side and we are not very good at the moment but i think the signs are ther that you are on the downward slope.red mick tag

I think someone needs a hug

Squirrel

See you in Europa BELL END!

Comeback when you win it...oops when you win it 5 times...

Bosco

That "glorified friendly" that you could not win may just have lost you your place in the CL next season if you don't win in Munich. Now that is not much to gloat about is it?

Dirk Kuyt - Hatrick v Man U
Fabio Aurelio - free kicks v Man U and Chelsea
Maxi Rodriguez - Hatrick v Fulham
Jamie Carragher - a rock for 16 yrs

Thanks for the memories lads, it's been a pleasure.

I do hope people realise that the only difference today and the rest of the season.... well most of it has been the result. the team has played fantastically this season. guilty of dropping heads and subsiding to media pressure. I don't want maxi kuyt or anyone else to go. everyone has their place. it's just knowing that place and being used there. we've taken out giants and fallen against ants. such is football. get behind your team. get behind Kenny. let's give our 22 year olds and our emotionally linked manager a chance. loved the "there's only one Andy carol" chants. look at Lucas last year. we all hated him. missed him so much this season after injury. we need no one other than a right winger. end of.

No John! I think you've done enough don't you?

This victory has somewhat eased some of the disappiontment encountered against the chavs in the f.A cup final.What a way to end last home game on a season of mixed feelings.Well done to the lads.

08 May 2012 22:51:00
I know that liverpool was going to go for lavezzi last year...what you think about a possible buy this year to partner suarez and gerrard? 40m?

08 May 2012 22:31:49
Hello Ed's first time on the sight, just a question here, no statement, but is their any chance Ricky Van Wolfswinkel will come to Liverpool?, thanks

Pray we dont sign him, he is awful.

Rumour has it that Torres was on the pitch playing today. I think someone is pulling my leg.

McAlien

Goes to show what a player he is now. Carra was comfy against Torres in all fairness to him.

He was the one that crowd kept laughin at when he fell over.

To be fair, I thought Torres was one of the only Chelsea players to show up tonight. His movement was really good and the turn, touch, and shot when he hit the bar was just about perfect. I think it's time we move on.

Anfield Rapstar

I think carra forgot torress was there. Who can blame him?

hey eds i missed kenny interview any ideas on where i can find it ?

Try the BBC website, on the sports secton. Amazingly they have been doing a great job for years DOH!

08 May 2012 22:45:14
Chelsea 'C' team reserves. Get real !
Maxi and Luis waving good-bye.
Another year of 'Kenny'.
More underachieving Brit players.
Yawn.
1980's manager.
Sophistication loses you.
Same same next year.
No spark, no 2012 football.
Live in the past.

It's good that chelsea fans have a little bitter twist towards Liverpool because we have a better record against you than anyone.

Luis wasn't waving goodbye, he was waving 'coz he couldn't clap 'coz he was carrying his daughter/holding her hand, he was clapping when she went back to her ma, not waving.

On the brightside, Terry was made to look the tool he is, when in charge of the defence.

Cork Red Boi

Well go off then & pretend to "support" someone else. "fans" like you are not needed.
joek

Yh cos I'm sure terry, ivanovic, Torres, Ramirez, malouda, Essen are all c team players! Wot a mug! Lfc continued fro
where they left off from Sunday...totally dominating you!

Most of reds were waving so does that mean they're all leaving...muppet! Get back to the Chavski site....come on ze Germans!!

Ahhh diddums poor Chelsea fan!! chin-up

Ah, diddums, did your lickle toy team get thumped?

Sorry what? That 6th grade grammar is hard to read.

08 May 2012 22:41:46
I am convinced that if Andy Carroll goes to the Euros and gets a chance to play he will come back to LFC next season and play just like he has the last 6 weeks. Well done Andy. Jonjo is one lad that I think can make the leap to becoming an integral part of our midfield rotation next year. Buy 1 CM, to join Lucas, Hendo, Jonjo in CM rotation and shift Stevie up top with Andy, Luis and Luuk. I winger to join Downing and Sterling on the flanks with Stevie filling in on right side on occasion. Make sure we sell the woodwork. 33 times this season plus 7 missed penalties. We are closer that we think but need 2/3 more players. 5 or 6 to go and replaced by 3 is the way I see it. One last thing, please play Hendo in his real position. If we judged him on just his CM position performances I'll bet he'd grade out well

Chi-Paul

Here's the one to replace the owners and KK. No need to worry fellow fans...Chi-Paul will take over from FSG and KK.

08 May 2012 22:44:14
How good has Carroll been this month, If he continues like that into next season we're going to be OK I think, John Terry was terrified of him, I've never seen him run ragged like that before. Very nice to give Chelsea a good kicking, exactly what I wanted to happen although it doesn't really make up for Saturday it has certainly softened the blow.

08 May 2012 22:44:10
My theories:

1. Agger and Skrtel used to find it hard playing with perfectionist Carra which they have now overcome.
2. Our midfielders similar with Gerrard maybe next year they will overcome. If he is playing they feel they have to pass to him and more relaxed tonight
3. We have played well in the main just not with penalties and woodwork
4. Hope the owners stick by KK and we stick with Carroll etc and buy oneor two quality players including Adam Johnson who is made for LFC

YNWA

Agreed until the words adam johnson apeared. No thanks.

08 May 2012 22:43:59
Where are all the Kenny,hendo,Carroll and shelvey bashers tonight??
Growler

Too upset that their real team lost :-)

Where have hendo,Carroll and Shelvey been all season? It's all well producing when the pressure is off but when the pressure has been on they have been nowhere to be seen.

The pressure was on in the FA Cup final and Andy Carroll stepped up and delivered his best performance in a red shirt. So your point is null and void mate.
KiwiRed

Bashers? We are fans who just want us to win.
And it was not abt just win. Its not that as we won. Everything is nice. Kenny corrected his two mistakes. 1.Playing hendo-searing midfield and 2. Not selecting the lfc player of the month. No he has not turned into messi overnight. But carroll is the only player who is showing some hungur ,determination to play. To score, leaving him on bench for a final ,was the stupidity.

Andy carroll has played his best games for the reds over the last few weeks but he is not what we need, look at the sitters he misses .red mick tag

08 May 2012 22:43:05
I'm trying to think. Since Roman took over as owner at chelski, they have had two big losses that I can remember. The 5-3 against arsenal and the 4-1 against us. which one is heavier?
Agree us
Disagree Arsenal

If you could do the maths you would know the answer to that.

Arsenal is their bitter rivals. Those two are like us and the mancs.
AnfieldUSA

Defo no love lost between us either

08 May 2012 22:42:53
Hi All think the difference with Carroll is he looks very lean would say at least a stone lighter than earlier in the season,good luck to him hope he is as lean and mean next August.

08 May 2012 22:40:33
really impressed by the combination of shelvey and henderson's contributions recently.

Please let these two and lucas be the gerrard/alonso/masch of the future...

x

Shelvey and henderson's are the shelvey and henderson's of now what more do u want malcolm

I told you they play better together than with anyone else - meaning; spearing, gerrard, adam (BAR LUCAS) {Ed016's Note - Must be from the u21 partnership perhaps?}

08 May 2012 22:38:35
442 is the key, go direct with thru balls and long balls, screw this short passing holding midfider stuff, screw spearingz and his side ways passes.get it up to big andy and mister megz and were sorted. Get a few more young pacy players in for next season to replace the outgoings, approach the league and europa league with 100% respect, put some effort into the fa cup and leave the league cup for the kids.

08 May 2012 22:39:34
Two poor teams playing for ...... Oh, that's rite, nothing

Only one poor team tonite...and the other were playing for their supporters, the club and for pride

cozinoz

And you support who ? playing for what ? A sorry manc I guess !

There's always pride to play for

Pride?

Peter

Don't take the bait from these Spams (Mancs) or should I say, wannabe scousers.

When you play for Liverpool you do your best in every game.

SHANKLY: Ability and dedication to the game. And giving people their money's worth. The players have got an obligation to the public to do that.

08 May 2012 22:38:59
Great win! Against Swansea we should be playing the same team but take off Maxi and play Sterling. Andy Carroll was immense tonight!

BthekingB

Maxi was one of the best tonite {Ed016's Note - Maxi has a fantastic first touch and skill set as well as a great tactical mind, however i just think we got him a year too late. In his prime, he must have been a massive handful}

08 May 2012 22:37:36
Carroll and Suarez looked amazing together today! I became so happy looking at them having fun out on the pitch.
We sure could use some joy, and maybe that is the recipe for success?
Also, hearing the fans sing about carroll, just simply amazing. We sure are the best fans in the world. At least it felt like it today!
I now hope and believe that we will try to sign players that will suit the team and Kenny's way of playing. I am not sure if Kenny will be our manager next year, but he is now, and it is important that we show the King som respect and confidence.

Lots of players have been linked to us and I am not sure who will come and who will go.
Probably maxi and kuyt will leave the club + spearing ++ I expect an excellent winger comming in: Ramirez? Also i actually hope we choose to let aqua back in and buy belhanda(pure class).
Becomming top 4 next season will be challenging and we need to buy more than we sell.
Hopefully luuk de jong will also join us or any other forward. I also expect Sterling to step up next season and I would love to see Suso on the pitch! I think Pacheco will leave, even though I always liked the lad. Anyways

Fantastic match!!!

YNWA

Yeah fantastic match shame they turned up 3 days too late though.

08 May 2012 22:33:31
Is it me or is/has Souness always been a negative person?
The guy seathes of bitterness for our club!

stuta1

Just you mate, i though he was ok.

Just you .redello

What he is, is honest. The English sports media are so full of sycophantic commentators of the game it shows when the truth is spoken. For the last World Cup Souness was on telly here in Ireland and was amazed at the fact he could criticise players or teams. He made a point of repeadedly mentioning how it was a relief to him to be able to actually comment on the performance in a game as opposed to how things are done on British TV. If you get a chance to tune in at any half/full time to the Irish channel RTE during the Euros, you will see how it should be done. I hope he comes over to do the Euros as he was great alongside our resident prophet of doom and gloom, Eamon Dunphy, the last time.

Cork Red Boi

Souness is a red and wants us back up there at the top , he can opine as much as we do and be constructive in what he says. red mick tag

great result, Henderson and shelvey the future ?? looks promising, people forget only 20/21

08 May 2012 21:59:01
Hi eds,

Got a question on the Champions League place. Seeing that Chelsea will now surely finish at 6th place, and if they won the CL would that get them qualified for the CL? If that does happen, would the 4th place play in the Europa League? {Ed003's Note - Yes}

08 May 2012 21:58:42
Nowt to play for i know but all season weve been a better side without Stevie, the mans a legend and deserves credit for all hes done for us but weve been a far better unit when hes not played.........That Shelvey could be some player if we stick with him too!

if andy carroll keeps playing like this, in our hands we have one of the best strikers in Europe

no more carroll bashing now haha

Davis93

Agreed. Andy's looking a good signing at 35 million pounds now isnt he? Kenny said when we signed him that he was for the future, he was right. Carroll is starting to show he is player who can terrorrise defences and dominate games. Well done Andy. We're all very proud of you.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Well yes we are SHED END.

mikehoopersgloves

A proper beating Shed End. 3 times this year.

Chi-Paul

HAha nice one blair, To think we've beat them 3 times this season and just because they walk away with the fa cup Shed End comes on here trying his best to be the big clever man haha what a joke he is

Who won the most important meeting?

Yeah fair play you beat us, but Blair, you're clutching at straws pal, there was lots i could of copied and pasted about the final but diddnt, it was a pretty meaningless game, we rested a lot of players, im not gonna lose any sleep over it, too little too late we won the Final, you won a glorified friendly against Chelsea reserves

SHED END

Terry, Torres, Ivanovic, Ramires, Essien, Malouda and Sturridge are all reserves?

08 May 2012 22:26:22
I'm going to say one thing, and one thing only.

Andy Carroll is the best crosser of a ball I have ever seen...

Stone YNWA.

U never seen beckham play?

I second that, that cross near the end of the game was millimeter perfect, he probably wishes others can cross the ball to him in the same accuracy.
I criticized Carroll a lot in the past, but his last few games he improved immensely and showed the Carroll of Newcastle, I really hope he carry this with him next year and its not just look at me I want to be in the Euro squad thing.. He will have great career if he puts in this effort all the time.
Well done Andy.

Roy

08 May 2012 22:25:55
I found the magic key to winning football games at LFC. Invite the players wives and children and make them take a lap around the pitch at the end of the game. none of them will want to lose like they did on the weekend.

08 May 2012 22:25:00
Really thought young Sterling was gonna score with his first touch tonight, should have been given 30 mins. Thought we played well although it was a nothing game. That will be the last time you see some of them players, Maxi, Kuyt, possibly Cara.

Sooty

08 May 2012 22:22:57
Anyone else think the team plays better without Gerrard? Its as if the players realise they are capable of doing things themselves.

Scarface

I know what you mean, Hendersons best games seem to come when Gerrard is missing.

Absolutely agree, the tempo is sometimes at a higher level too. this is not a criticism of stevie g but one of the problems i felt with lucas earlier in his lfc career was that he was overawed playing alongside him too and afraid to express himself. is there a coincidence that lucas was having his best season this year and stevie was not on the pitch due to injury?
to think that i'm suggesting stevie's time is up would be madness but i do believe it's a captain's job to encourage as well as inspire his team mates.

08 May 2012 22:22:37
I love big Andy - he's a freakin handfull and he's finally enjoying it! Can't wait for next season - a couple of decent additions, Lucas fit and we won't be far off. Thank you Maxi and Dirk - YNWA.

08 May 2012 22:19:49
Eds. When maxi came off was he waving goodbye to the lfc fans or was he simply thanking them?

08 May 2012 22:19:26
if we do buy another striker i think we should play with 3 strikers in games, we can have carroll to knock down long balls, suarez to use his trickery and show his flair and a clinical finsher to put the ball into the back of the net.

hopefully our midfielders will chip in with more goals too.

what do you guys think? would love a second opinion

It is how top teams play, but if we do play like that Lucas will have to hold midfield totally and our full backs will need to be more consistent getting forward to provide width.
Olly J R

I think it's almost certain that we will buy at least one striker.

08 May 2012 22:16:40
Very pleased about tonight's result just wanted to see the view on kk not bringing sterling on sooner just thought it was the Liverpool way to give young players a chance at 4-1 up with 20 mins to go thought he would of been given a chance instead was given a 5 min cameo looks very pacey with good skill would've liked to see more game time anyone agree?

That was a tough game for a youngster, wouldn't like to see him injured with those tackles coming in. Kenny got it about right, I can see him having a longer stint against Swansea.

Stop being so negative enjoy the moment! It's been coming all season shame it was to late. And for those who want Torres back...... There's only one Andy Carroll

08 May 2012 22:18:39
Maxi's wave as he was going off was a clear sign he was leaving!

Let's hope Suarez's wave during the lap of honour wasn't, hopefully it was just because he was holding his daughter's hand and couldn't clap.

Probably looking into this too much! Ah well!

08 May 2012 22:15:08
Chelsea fan here. Just wanted to congratulate your team on tonight's win. Most of yous were gracious in defeat on our page on Sat so I said I would return the favour.

Badger

Cheers mate, but as you saw tonight we always play better when the pressure is off, so not really learnt nothing really.

08 May 2012 22:13:46
roughly how much do you think dalglish will be given to spend this summer considering we lost 50m last season?

Give him the same I reckon. Carroll, Hendo, Downing, Shelvey were excellent tonight. Just a pity the season is nearly over

cozinoz

08 May 2012 22:11:33
Good win. Luis and Andy were unplayable. Nice goals from Hendo and Shelvey. Carroll and Shelvey will come good next season, I believe it. It's coming together. Singred

08 May 2012 22:10:13
Suarez-Carroll partnership was brilliant tonight. I Hope it really continues to flourish. Special mention to Hendo tonight; top class performance. And goodbye Dirk Kuyt, you've left us with some brilliant memories, a true lfc legend. Hope you come back to coach in the future! YNWA.

08 May 2012 22:09:57
Now that's Henderson's best position. Him and Shelvey seem to have a great understanding!

And an excellent performance from Big Andy "the beast of Anfield"

A simple and balanced 4-4-2, bring in some pacey wingers and a pacey striker and we'll do just fine!

Please stop it , we won tonight but our team are not good enough, do not get carried away with tonights score, we can not accept this seasons results as a positive , we are were we are because are squad of players are average. lets hope the powers that be have learnt a lesson this season.red mick tag

That was most definitely an entertaining way to spend a Tuesday night! Not a bad performance amongst them, Hendo and Shelvey in the middle were tremendous, best performance from both of them i've seen. Carroll was a beast, as he has been in most of the games recently, and if that was the last game at Anfield for Kuyt, Maxi and possibly Carra, I just wanna say thanks for everything, will be remembered fondly by any true red and I wish them all the best in the future.

Think Sterling should get a start against Swansea, they're possibly the least physically imposing team in the league so would be a good chance of a start. Other than that, I wouldn't change a thing for the next game (ok, play Enrique and drop Carra, but I wouldn't grudge him a start)

Rugby Parker

Agree with most of that but would defo keep danny boy at left back an maybe put coates in for carra

Wow over the last month Carrol seems to of turned a corner.Hopefully he will be like a new signing next season.Think Shelvey, Henderson and Lucas are the future and could be awesome together, still young but got experience behind them now.....

Carroll may not be worth 35 million but he's certainly worth more than Torres and he cost 50 million! Let's hope FSG do some serious investment in the squad and yes keep KK as manager. We need stability and 3 to 4 quality players. Would Mourinho make any difference with the current squad? No, he wouldn't. One question please Ed...do you think Reina will stay with Liverpool? {Ed003's Note - As far as I'm aware yes}

With the season Pepe's had I'd be surprised anybody would come in for him anyway.

I really think we have to special talents in Henderson and Shelvey. Everyone seems to forget they are only 21 and 20.

Made up for big Andy, fantastic seeing a standing ovation from the Kop, I think taking him off against Newcastle might just have been a master stroke from Kenny, just what the lad needed to detach himself from his home town club.

why doesn't Dalglish give Sterling a few minutes?!

He did and what a waste of a chance. All that time and money helping him develop and he can't even get that on target. What a waste. What's Dalglish thinking of?!

I'm joking. It was good to see the lad get a run out and hopefully we'll see much more of him next year.

Why dont you wait before you post then you might have seen kenny give sterling 9 minutes

He should have given him 30-35 min

iv got to admit the first few times i seen jonjo play in a red shirt i wasn,t overly convinced by him but he was a young lad with time on his side but got to say hats off to the lad since he,s been on loan at blackpool and got more game time he,s starting to look a real player i was never convinced he would be able to fill gerrards boots but he,s looking at least half the player gerrard was at the same age with loads more time for improvement think we have got a real gem of a player there
mr stating the obvious

I think he'll continue to shine once he has the opportunity to play in front of Lucas. It'll allow him to continue to chase down midfielders and give him the incentive to play a more attacking role. He just needs to clean up on his passing slightly and will truly be a gem of a player.

Don't know why peeps want maxi out, he is a class player that plays for a country with class players all round. 08 May 2012 21:11:47
Good performance so far by liverpool....playing the same as they have all season just finally putting the ball in the net.

There have been 3 bad 'tackles'....shelvey, essien (worst of the 3) and ivanovich elbow (he has a habbit of this now)

I am not a huge fan of liverpool, support newcastle and delighted with our season.

I just feel if you had a goalscorer....an owen (in his prime), a cisse (glad we got him) or somebody of that ilk you would be 10-20 points better off over the season.

I don't think whole sale changes are needed, it' not kenny's fault if he sets the team up to play well but they just miss all their chances.

But what is his fault is he signed 2 strikers....neither or which are 20+ goal a season players I dont think....which is what you need to be near the champs league.

With a couple of additions you could be near champs league next year.

ToonFan

Suarez scored like 40 odd goals last season /:

How many has he got this year....he is a good player but not an out and out goal scorer in the premier league

afonso alves got 37 in 34 in holland....then none in the premierleague really

suarez gets a lot of chances and wastes them.....a little more clinical finishing and he could have had 20ish

If Slur Alex and his men didn't ban him for 8 matches he would have at least 20

08 May 2012 21:06:27
Again, a good Liverpool performance (until now) without Gerrard. Do we really need him as much as we did 2/3 years ago?

You are a complete idiot. Of course we need Gerrard.

08 May 2012 21:06:10
if kenny stays , i think he will continue with his buy british policy , if thats so all the players from abroad who we have been linked with is hot air , only in the summer , we will find out if this is true

If thats true, get ready for a similar season. English players typically have no flair or trickery, as we've found out with the british players we've signed last summer...we need some foreign talent going forward, their just so much more exciting!

Yawn........Enrique, Suarez, Coates, .....yawn

I think we'll see a few Foreign players bought this summer to mix in with the British players that were bought last summer. I still think we could end up with a good squad next season with a few decsent additions.

I know its hard to take but i dont expect champions league football again for a long time unless some big things change at this club + dont just think that because we have a great history perhaps the best in england that that means the best players in the world will come to us.

Do you think that because we beat chelski's reserves 4-1 that that means we can look forward to next seasons with high expectations just as we did this season? because i expect that we will fail just like this season. These are dark days at anfield so i call for

That 'tackle' by Essien was disgusting and cowardly - it could have broken Carroll's legs.

JRG {Ed022's Note - I agree. It was a horrific challenge but at least this way Chelsea fans don't whine about the Shelvey tackle.}

Which Shelvy tackle Ed? The tackle on Ramires he went for the ball and won it clean, both feet were off the ground but he only went in with one foot. The one on Malouda was a bit spiteful and he was lucky not to get booked for it.

But the Essien one was from behind, two footed with his studs down Carroll's calf. I guess because he was booked the FA cannot do anything about it.

JRG

2 - 0 up and I can already predict Chelski fan's response - "We were a reserve team, resting players".

Well if we win and any Chelski fan does say this, just point out Torres, Terry, Ivanovic, Ramires, Essien i.e. just under half the are first team players.

Also, point out that both teams played the same amount of time ago, so we are just as tired, probably more so because Skrtel, Johnson, Agger, Reina, Suarez, Henderson and Downing all started last time.

Suarez undressing Chelsea today. Imagine if we had a decent midfield! Suarez would dominate. As it is, he has to do it all by himself. Our midfield (which at start of season was 'overloaded') is by far our weakest area. Too much reliance on a wavering Gerrard, and ofcourse the loss of Lucas. If we had kept Aquilani and Meireles, Suarez and Carroll would have 20 goals a piece.

08 May 2012 20:04:32
A very important summer lies ahead. Things have gone pear shaped since we won the Carling Cup. Our league form is akin to the worst that Souness, Hodgson and Houllier bestowed upon us.

Our performance on Saturday for 60 minutes was frightening and shockingly poor. This season one of our achilles heels was the fact we couldn't seem to 'up' for the fight against the so called lesser teams, whilst looking a top 4 contender when against the bigger and better teams. So on Saturday when we produced a typically lethargic, error strewn performance in the FA Cup Final was a little hard to swallow.

We deserved to lose, regardless of whether Carroll's header was in or not. You get out of football what you put in and if you're going to produce that low level of performance it isn't right to 'reward' it with a trophy.

I could type here all night on the merits of Dalglish being in the job. I was a staunch Rafa fan, big time. I didn't feel it was right for a change in 2010 and i didn't agree with Hodgson coming in. However i didn't feel it right Dalglish coming in when he did.

I don't agree with sentamentality in football and i felt at the time that the owners were bowing to fan pressure and maybe trying to win them over as a result of the conflict with H&G.

That said. Dalglish MUST be allowed to continue next year. IF we are in this particular boat, this time next season, then a change should be made.

We cannot allow ourselves to be labelled a great cup side, which at the moment is all we can cling to. Ultimately you are judged on your league campaign. And the league never, ever lies.

The same old issues that have dogged us on and off for nigh on 20 years is still rife in the club. A lack of consistency and too many lack lustre performances with results to boot. Individual player performances have mirrored the campaign as well. Some playing well when the results aren't there and then playing poorly when the results still aren't there.

Being a positive sod, if albeit a moody one at present, there has been enough this year to resist the urge to fall into the knee jerk's sack of crap and call for Dalglish to go.

But again i will go into a new season with more trepidation than hope. I cling to the thought that the signings from last summer will be stronger for the troubles of this season, along with the hope of a new striker who will turn the 0-0's into a 1-0 and a final clinging thought that Dalglish will turn this malaise around.

Ok off my knees now, looking up to the heavens. My armchair is waiting. I'll be back around October...ish with an update.

Bob the Red

Nice one, Bob.

Mr Benn

Missed you Bob

What do you think where Liverpool would be if all the signings showed the form which made us.buy them under the kenny dalglish era {Ed022's Note - What?}

Ed022 I will interpret.

If Kenny's signings had played as well at Liverpool as they had at the previous club (i.e. Carroll at Newcastle, Henderson at Sunderland, Downing at Villa) how much better would we be doing.

Don't bother answering though, it is a pointless question.

During the last month or so we have been linked with quite a few players world wide, only we were the ones interested at the time, Roll on a few weeks and we are still thinking about them while arsenal utd and others have joined in the interest or are even close to signing them. Some of those players were a decent amount and still we dithered and now prices are going up and with big teams interested what chance have we? Get fed up with this every transfer season , we end up paying way over the odds for players no big clubs even considered and most fans. Why do we keep dragging transfers out, find a target and conclude it quickly please. Oh why is Downing in the team tonight? has hardly done anything all season and yet KD keeps playing him? Perhaps if KD had played others who were doing well and not kept playing Downing and Henderson we would have had a better season.

Do you know why stevie g isn't playing tonight, eds? they can't be resting him for anything. he hasn't got an injury, has he? {Ed005's Note -Bit of a bad back according to Dalglish.}

08 May 2012 19:43:06
As Macca said no Gerrard tonight, Hopefully we'll see the AC we saw for the last 30 mins at Wembley!
Sterling on the bench!
CMON LIVERPOOL LETS FINISH THE SEASON AT HOME WITH A BANG!

08 May 2012 19:42:42
come on guys

you got a laugh a little bit....

how quickly...a really good team that were destroying teams in europe for fun against the likes of madrid and almost winning the league and looking like a real force

to a really weak team that struggled this season due to the lack of quality in the squad!

u know full well...suarez a few a others are off..........

Love the way people are not saing carroll's name anymore when their blasting kennys signings! Also carra may have his last match at anfield tonight, so before you start slating selections..... Think about it first

08 May 2012 19:41:09
What does Henderson have to do to get dropped?......Why isnt Sterling getting a start when theres nowt left to play for?.....Why why why?!......
fed up, These owners need to prove they have some balls real soon..............YNWA JFT96 {Ed005's Note - Sterling isn't ready to play regular first-team football yet unfortunatly people are too silly to see that. He needs bits and pieces of footie under his belt to gain experience. Henderson has shown glimpses of his ability in my honest opinion - pity he's been stuck out on the right far too often.}

It beggars belief !

The owners have nothing to do with the selection of Henderson.

Is kenny dalglish wired to the moon? I dont know i really dont, agger at left back? Hes best cb in league and when he played at left back last time few weeks ago he looked out of place commentators said the balance wasnt right with him at left back why can everybody else see this but him. Martin kelly is one of the best right backs iv seem at livetpool people saying buy rb replace johnson wev got one kelly he is superb every time hes played what is wrong too young? Inexperienced? Shelvey, spearing and henderson too young kenny u have not got a clue stick to legend footballer status. Walk now!
Although i do fell we will win tonight maxi loves playing chelsea but cant help be nervous about agger

Feel stupid now lad?

08 May 2012 19:34:14
Hi Ed/Macca.

Can you tell me anything about which players we might buy in the summer? which players do we want? first choice, second choice and third choice?

Daniel91 {Ed005's Note - There is plenty of insight all over the website mate, it would be too much for me to write and I probably couldn't remember it all.}

08 May 2012 19:33:49
I read this site every day, checking for updated rumours and get withdrawal symptoms if I can't get my daily fix. I just had this thought, as we don't know who will be our manager or DOF for next season,so we can't predict who our transfer targets could be. We may have made enquiries about Elm and De jong, but the new management team, whoever they will be, probably have their own ideas on who would best suit whatever style of play we will be using next season. Personally I'm hoping for either Van Gaal or Rikaard. Who would you all like to see leading us to number 19.

Kenny

Kenny Dalglish

08 May 2012 19:25:02
Team.
Reina
Johnson agger carra skrtel
Maxi shelvey henderson diwning
Suarez carrol

No gerrard he stil plays henderson gerrard should have been beside shelvey oh but then that would be too attacking and exciting for dalglish barca play about 6 attackin players in team we play about 3 shows how exciting we are. Plays the pension bound carragher. Sick of dalglish tactics, if its tiredness who cares 2 more games, then break. Shows how much we need to do in summer we havent got the squad we thought playing 2 young men in central midfield most important part if field this is were games are won and lost in midfield that shows our problem we need a commanding strong cm to go with lucas and gerrard people forget were missing possibly our top 5 player in squad

Gerrard has a back problem... Give it a rest...

08 May 2012 19:23:14
I am so disheartened by Liverpool's form, style of play, quality of players bought in summer and the result at weekend.

Never thought I would say this after the end of last season.

Maybe way forward is to try and sell the players we bought in summer and recoup as much as possible and start all over again.

Adam, Downing, Henderson, Enrique... What was Kenny thinking.

Steve068

Its funny how at the beginning of the season everyone was praising jose enrique, saying he was one of the biggest bargains this summer for lfc. but now he's on some peoples "sell" list

Hendo will come good, he was quality at Sunderland. Enrique, for me apart from Suarez has been our best player all season.
Sell Downing,Adam and the other fringe players (including Spearing)

I thought Enrique was crap at Newcastle ! Done nothing to change my mind at Liverpool.

Baz F

LMAO Replying to my own post RE: hendo but i told ya LOL!

Eds, or Macca.
Do you think there is any chance of Carroll or Suarez leaving this summer? Cheers. {Ed005's Note - There is a chance.}

08 May 2012 19:14:28
heard also today eds from i 1st time customer where i work that we seriously considering selling saurez as liverpools sponsers are pushing for us to sell him after the evra racist situation. standard charter apparntly have clauses in the contract saying any player that brings bad publicity to liverpool and standard charter they can have an input on getting rid of any player who does this. i myself hope it isnt true as saurez is proper quality. have you or anybody else heard anything like this yourself, me personally dont believe there is such a clause. thanks eds

Typically there are morality clauses in sponsorship contracts. They usually give the sponsor an opt-out; it is entirely possible Stan Chart have said he needs to go or we cancel.

For anyone wanting AVB as our next manager consider yourself thick from now on!

Your thick, he's a quality manager, he just managed Chelsea at the wrong time

Is that the same Chelsea who have just won the fa cup and are in the final of the champions league with the same team but under a different manager?

Hello all EDs,
seriously, have you not become bored with thousands of the same questions about AVB, KK, Suarez, Higuain, Cavani, Llorente, De Jong, Carroll and a few others? {Ed005's Note - Its not the questions which are bothering, it is more the fact that they have been answered numerous times and people won't take the time to search for them. The time they spend typing, spending in the question, then giving us grief when we tell them to look for the answer they could have gotten it by just using the search bar.}

08 May 2012 18:55:40

08 May 2012 18:53:58
Eds, do you know if Liverpool has looked at or have any interest in Miguel Veloso from Genoa?
Great player and wouldn't be too expensive. {Ed005's Note - I doubt it. Another over-rated player in my eyes.}

08 May 2012 18:50:35
Hi eds, i see yann mvila is aparantly discussing personal terms with arsenal after a £17.7m move was accepted by rennes. Do we not have an interest in him at all? I think thats a bargain for a player whose value will rocket at the euros.
Jayo {Ed005's Note - We have interest but I can't see us moving for anyone until we get a new Dof in and also until the managerial situation is sorted. M'Vila is over-rated in my opinion anyway.}

The board need to act quickly appoint a DOF and confirm Kenny as manager or we can write off next season as well. If they don't sort it out we'll be last in the queue for players, end up with third or fourth choices while all the decent signings are snapped up my Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and City. The new DOF will get blamed and will get sacked Kenny's replacement will get sacked and the cycle will be repeated as nauseum.

All M'Villa does is pass the ball backwards and sideways and that...is....it. Overrated. {Ed022's Note - Check out my player profile on him. My opinions slightly different to yours though.}

08 May 2012 18:39:04
eds if we buy all of the following players, we will be in top 4 for 100%

1.Victor Moses
2.Clint Dempsey
3.Rasmus Elm
4.Luuk de Jong

But we must sell also these players :

1.Aurelio
2.Adam
3.Maxi
4.Cole
5.Aquilani
6.Kuyt
7.Bellamy
8.Spearing {Ed005's Note - Victor Moses is a headless chicken. All legs but he lacks the final pass/ball and a good footballing brain.}

Totally agree with you Ed005, Moses runs 10 yards to do what he could do in 2.

Sooty

Do you actually believe you will be top four if you sign those?
Jordan

I have to agree with Ed005 on this one.

Victor Moses would be a terrible buy and would cost 6-8 million. For that price you could get either Markel Susaeta or Ibrahim Afellay, I know which I would prefer.

Only de Jong out of them lot

Affelay for me is a great shout. I'm hoping we show an interest this summer.

08 May 2012 18:36:29
hi eds, seriously now, we all can see it that you get more for your money buying from abroad, so why did we persist in buying british players who lets face it are NOT good enough for are loved reds. i could quite easlily name 20-30 players far better and far cheaper than downing,henderson. what is your view thanks eds {Ed005's Note - Whilst I'm not saying your point is wrong, please do name all these players and their transfer fees if you don't mind.}

08 May 2012 18:27:19
Eds, is there any likelihood that the owners will look at players currently playing in the US league and request that the manager sign at least one? I know the owners don't normally get involved but just wondering if they are thinking a player from their own country would help promotion over there with shirts sales etc {Ed005's Note - Nationality won't determine whether we choose to go for a player or not and I can't see the owners requesting we sign an American player for the sake of shirt sales etc. I'm sure however, if we found the right player for our club and he was American it would be a bonus for us in that sense.}

Unfortunately, I can only think of a couple of Americans who are likely good enough to maybe play in LFC's first team (Dempsey, Donovan, Howard). Of those, only Donovan is even quasi-well known in the US. I suspect more people in England know who Clint Dempsey is than in the US, even though we have 6x your population.

My point being, the US is becoming more aware of football/soccer, but in general we're not quite there yet, so I wouldn't let what might happen here affect how the club operates a whole let just yet.

Rested for what....next season.

08 May 2012 18:08:12
Many times my beloved reds have let me down on a footie coupon hence the reason I no longer bet on them, yet a team that outclassed us in the first half sit at a tasty 12/5. Now, I would never back against my team, but surely the odds should be closer giving one team is fighting for a Champions league spot. Scary thought. Right, I'm off to listen to the moaners in the row behind me talking about Corrie then booing when something goes wrong. Phew.

But ed16 you would still sit behnd me unfortunately lol

Thanks for you're info

08 May 2012 18:13:30
Eds, you say we are interested in Luuk de Jong.
Do you think we will try to get him before the Euros starts?
Because I'm sure afterwards it would be alot more difficult with other clubs likely to get interested. {Ed005's Note - I hope so but I'm not sure. I think the Dof situation may affect when we go for targets.}

Hoooray! At last someone has said something I have been saying for a while. Enrique is one of the most overrated players in the premiership.

Quality player who has just slowed down and made some mistakes over the last six weeks, with the squad now we might need cover for him but def dont need to replace him with an expensive buy, he was a bargain too!

Granted Enrique has been poor since Bolton. Lack of confidence, lack of right foot I'm not sure but I would not say he is particularly overrated. He is a solid left back that needs to re-capture his form - in my opinion.

Dirks Engine Room

I used to think he was just ok then when we signed him he played well and really impressed me and lately he's been poor.
Not sure which is the real Enrique

Chris in Tamworth

Just actually talking about this with my mate... I think Enrique is a quality defender but has been poor since December/January. Probably suffering from Low confidence not helped by our fans when a mistake is made.

G BOX

He needs competition for his place.He has become complacement this last few months.Still a top quality player,when he is at his best.

Start of the season, in my opinion he was the best left back in the league, fair enough he's not been as good lately but form is temporary , class is perminant

Bilverstone

Enrique has the most points in fantasy (Premier League) football out of all Liverpool defenders

Adam's 35th on the list as the highest Midfielder and injured - the rest appear between 60-70 places in the list.

Suarez is the highest forward out of strikers and has highest number of points out of all Liverpool players.

I know it's fantasy footy but tells you something about performances... interestingly the top 5 forwards in terms of points are:

1 Van Persie ARS
2 Rooney MUN
3 Aguero MCI
4 Adebayor TOT
5 Ba NEW

All these teams has a player from the current top 5 in the table.

{Ed016's Note - Enrique had a brilliant start, right before he said "I need to get forward more" Enrique has been one of our best left full backs in years, but going forward he is a liability, I just wish Kenny had noticed this.}

08 May 2012 17:05:50
Hi Ed/s and everyone else; hope you're all well and excited for tonight!

Just to say I'll be in the stands for tonight's game. Not entirely sure where my seats are because my Granddad has sorted it out. Just to question what likely line ups do you see tonight? It'd be much better if we were playing our full first time so I could see them all, but I know that won't be the case. Any ideas?

Thanks, Ell. {Ed019's Note - If Macca is correct and there is no Gerrard, I would play Reina, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique, Johnson, Hendo, Jonjo, Maxi, Downing, Suarez & Carroll}

Still very much the first team then, which I'm happy about and hope you're correct!
Cheers for the reply.
Ell.

Why Downing ed he's not very good and doesn't play with his heart at all. The worst type of player you need is someone who seems like he's not bothered half the time. Never slag players off usually but he just seems like he doesn't care he has ability as well which is the most frustrating thing. TAKE A MAN ON DOWNING PLEASE I BEG YOU.

08 May 2012 17:05:03

07/08 12.09.2007 02.03.2008 Metatarsal fracture
these are all of AGGER injuries, if he didnt have these where would he be

He'd spend less time on the treatment table and may be able to bulk up a little so he could cope with physically intimidating strikers like Drogba

08 May 2012 16:55:07
i would sell enrique, most overrated player in the squad. He's never been that good for Newcastle and spent a season in the championship. aurelio and riise were in a different league

Riise in his last two season was slow and woeful. Aurelio although I thought was excellent was too injury prone and we needed cover

Jonesred

When Aurelio played a couple games back i kept thinking it was the best crossing ive seen from anyone of the boys all season. We could use someone on the wings that has those crossing abilities

KevtheRed

Very true Kev. We could of even used him as a left midfielder this season when he was fit.
I say this as his crossing ability must be there for all to see in training.

Carroll would have thrived on those crosses, and we could have gave Downing some competition for his place.

Sadly Kenny for whatever reason didn't utilise him.

08 May 2012 16:50:33
All the gossip saying we should bring in this top player and that top player is doing my head in. Top players go to top teams in the Champions League - we are NOT a top team. We DO NOT have many top quality players. So lets get real, we will sign average players like we did last season. We are not as big a name as we were in the past and do not have the pulling power. Get real.

Well said mate!

Great post. Its true we cannot attract top players like we did in the past. These top players will look some players in our squad and say ˜no thanks'.

Why are people so pessimistic before anythings happened haha. theres no sense in getting yourself down before anything happens. lets just wait and see what the summer has in store for us

They're the kind we don't want, we want players who would be proud to put on the shirt. Fact! {Ed016's Note - Of course we do. However how many players are there out there that are going to play for the shirt? we tried to get players in we thought would play for the shirt and haven't been as succesful as planned, I think maybe the important thing is you get someone who loves playing football first and thinks of money second. That's where we get our best players from}

We all know that our owners are looking at trying to buy players that might become great players rather than paying the City prices and wages.Superstar players don't always workout anyway. {Ed016's Note - Not being funny, but I wonder who actually scouts for some of these teams. Cisse went to Newcastle in the sale of the decade IMO. I have been a massive fan of his for a long time, and he was second highest scorer in his league. It wasn't exactly like he was a hidden gem. No need to pay 40+ million for a diva}

I smell a MANC if you are not then you most def sound like one.

gee man {Ed016's Note - Many people said we wouldn't get Suarez but we did. I don't think Champions league is as important to some players.}

Maybe not the likes of Lavezzi, Cavani, Hazard, Sneijder, Eriksen etc but I think we can still get players like Afellay, Susaeta, G.Ramirez, L.De Jong, Giroud, M.Sissoko, Elm, Sakho, Isla, Soldado, Bellhanda, Jackson Martinez, Dempsey. Players of which you can still make a very good team/squad with. Its not all doom and gloom, its about building. {Ed016's Note - Please leave Dempsey out of that list. He isn't good enough to be our number 1 forward target this summer}

08 May 2012 16:45:28
where do you think we will finish in the league next season if we do bring players in the positions where we need 2 stenghten would really love your opinion

Just like any other season mate, we bring in the right players to fill the positions we've badly lacked in this season and there's no reason why we couldn't hit a top 4 spot. I'd like the right wing covered and a Rush/Fowler-esque poacher up front. Looking forward to the summer now!

Cuchulainn's Hounds

08 May 2012 16:41:36
KD is done in the summer, the owners are fed up with poor results this season. Their main priority is to get Deschamps as new manager.

Is that the same Deschamps who's team has played very poor this season?

Who wants him?

Isn't Deschamps currently managing a mid-table French team? Perfect for the job then!

You heard it here first! Managers should be judged only on their most recent 1 year campaign!

hulmerous

08 May 2012 16:35:10
If we succeed in bringing in a couple of class players, like De Jong and Ramirez, plus with a fit again Lucas supported by maybe Elm or another cm, will you give Kenny a second season? Singred

No, really dont want kenny, outdated tactics, hes had a season with the players he chose and look where we are.

In pretty much every game this year kenny's "outdated tactics" have allowed us to have more goal scoring opportunities than our opponents. with some clinical finishing this year we could be bounds and leaps farther up the table. But i guess if thats outdated we dont want that.

How many goals? enough said. woulda shoulda same old ....

Table doesn't lie, terrible terrible season, btw the 80's called and they wants there tactics back

With Lucas back next year, we will challenge in the Premier League. {Ed016's Note - If we had Lucas this year, and all the poor decisions that went against us, we could have made top 4. In fact I would bet my house we would of. I knew as soon as he got injured this season was a loss.}

That is not saying it wasnt a bad season just that kennys tactics werent necessarily outdated {Ed016's Note - It was a bad season. However his tactics weren't bad, perhaps the players deployed in those roles didn't get it. You can tell Enrique isn't great at going forward and Kenny was relying of Wing Backs to get crosses in. However Johnson and Enrique as brilliant at defending as they are, they couldnt cross their fingers.}

Don't really know how people disagree with this, in all seriousness, where 9th in the league with Everton and Fulam in front of us with a goal difference of just 5.

08 May 2012 16:31:33
Hearing strong rumours of a meeting between Kenny and FSG tonight. Apparently Kenny has agreed to move upstairs. Heard anything eds? {Ed002's Note - I rather thought that Dalglish had other plans this evening.}

08 May 2012 16:21:03
I think we should go for Soldado and belhanda in the summer: a goal scorer and a skillful playmaker in midfield. Ive think we'd have a good chance at getting these two, as we can atleast offer europa league football and te history. Obviously we'd need a couple more coming in, but these two would be a nice start to summer dealings to address two big problems we have at the club, scoring and flair.

It could have easily been a goal if your thicko player tapped it in instead of celebrating Cechs great save

Gotta admit bit envious of Chelsea and arsenal, both already got players either done or nearly done. Marin, podolski, m'villa all quality players! However we seem to be linked with players no better than we already have, please eds or macca are there any deals/ negotiations going on or are we gonna leave it till then end and panic buy? Yes I'm aware the window isn't open yet, but already feel we're falling behind again.

If you buy young quality players i dont see why they cant develope and become better

hi eds,
just wondering if roberto martinez was appointed manager (which is highly unlikely) 1. what type of players would he bring in? 2. do you think he would bring in any wigan players? 3. how do you think he would fare as manager? i personally think he would do a great job would love your opinion eds thanks {Ed002's Note - I have absolutely no idea, sorry.}

Being ED was no use ill help. i dont think he would bring in any wigan players (maybe moses) im not sure if he could handle the jump in class and i think he'd have you playing fast paced passing football and im not sure what kind of players he would bring in(can he attract class?)

I think he'd bring in mid table players (as thats what he is used to) be little improvement from kenny as he's not used to challenging for the top, more like avoiding relegation. We need a good manager whos managed good quality side and used to being around good players, as I feel martinez will do similary to roy (both came from teams avoiding relegation, good at keeping teams up, but not creating sides which are trying to compete for champions league). Just my opinion.

E.H LFC

Give him another 5 or so years and I think Martinez will become a quality manager. Maybe if he can bring Wigan up to be a top 10 team (and stay there for a fair few years) then I do believe he would be an excellent choice but at the moment I do agree that the jump up would be too much.

Although he has shown his guts and determination with Wigan. I suppose you never know till you try!

I do hope that if a change of management is forthcoming,then the new manager should be able to move out certain influences in the current squad,if he wants to. I do feel that the way fans are calling for Iconic figures to stay in other capacities, is not the way forward.If I was a young top foreign manager and had to come in and try and take us to another level.I would want a fresh start.If Gerrard Reina Carra and Kuyt, Maxi or Suarez or whoever wanted to leave. I would let them go, just like Rafa let Owen go.If Carra wanted to be a future manager,and keep playing then he should go somewhere as a player coach and show what he can do.I wouldn't want anyone hanging around waiting for me to fail .

I was wondering if you could help me out with a question eds... Since we missed out on the FA Cup, we now need to go through Europa League qualifiers in order to reach the group stages.

My question is, if Chelsea get into the Champions League, whether it be by beating Bayern or getting 4th - do we still have to go through the route of qualifiers regardless? If Chelsea do not reach the CL, then obviously they'd get a straight entry into the Europa League.

Cheers {Ed002's Note - No. If Chelsea reach the CL then Liverpool leap past two rounds (four games) and go directly in to the Group stages.}

Top 3 for me are
1) Crouch
2) Suarez
3) Cisse
For some reason I think that the "experts" will make the Cisse goal the goal of the season when for me it has to be Crouch by a long way.

In answer to mikehoopersgloves - you are right, no-one can match the wages City can offer. Nor can they offer the transfer fees they can/will pay. In addition to that they will very soon have the attraction of being Premiership winners...BUT...they will not be buying 5/6/7 players every window so there will always be plenty of ability on sale for other teams. I think it is being too defeatist to think City have all the money so we can never compete..We can and we could -we just need the right people in the right jobs !

I'm not complaining about people disagreeing with me that's fine it's there choice. I was just curiouse as to why so many people think it would be a bad idea to play agger as a dm and also have a flexible formation. I don't like formation I think it should be more of a shape than a set formation to allow players the freedom to swap and change. Try different players against different opposition to see what works best without disrupting the flow of the rest of the team. Again I'm not moaning about people not agreeing with me. I would just like to know some reasons why it's a bad idea also if the eds have an opinion I'd love to here it.

Eric the red

Play players in their best positions (advice that is always not well received by a certain manager). Besides Agger has a history of injuries; put him in midfield & he'll be on the sick table more times than on the pitch Singred

1. Agger is needed to marshall the defense, he has a great brain and leads the back line well.

2. His height makes it difficult to time challenges as well as a small dmc who have a lower centre of gravity. (e.g masc and makelele)
3. DMC's cover the greatest distance in a match and Agger's body would not be able to cope after years of fitness problems and niggling injuries.

4. Use him like Barcelona use Pique he has great ditribution for a centre back and can start of passages of play from the back.

Thanks

Long live the king

Thanks long live the king. I understand what u are saying its just a shame the rest of the team are in no rush to get up the pitch for agger to make a difference in that way. And to the un named poster Gerard started at right back. Kyle walker started as a striker. Henry and van preside both started as wingers just to name a few players who have changed position successfully and for aggers injury problems I only meant we could play him there for the last couple of games as spearing is a liability. I'm not knocking the lad because he plays his best every time he puts liver bird on his chest it's just a shame he's not good enough. Thanks for the replies I appreciate your opinions

To all the people saying how much better Rafa was compared to Kenny and how good the players he bought were.

Yes he bought some good ones (Reina, Torres, Agger etc). But are we supposed to just forget;
Josemi, Nunez, Pellegrino, Morientes, Carson, Zenden, Gonzalez,Kromkamp, Paletta, Pennant, El Zhar, Voronin, Itandje, Degan, Dossena, Cavalieri, N'gog, Keane, Riera, Aqualani, The Greek, Jovanovic?
To name a few.

Tom

Worst season for a long time, end of

What was wrong with the Greek?

Puzzled

To be fair to him he wasn't given enough money to spend on a few very decent expensive players thats why he bought lots of mediocre players for average money.

long live the king

But hey! you've got to hand it to Rafa - he sure got an eye for those 'good' ones ! Singred

It's bad when the owners force you to wheel & deal rather than buy your first choice targets.
I'm amazed rafa did as well as he did whilst having to deal with Parry and then H&G.
I would welcome rafa back in a heartbeat.

Most of those listed above were due to there being an almost zero budget under the cowboys....

Lets not forget that rafa also identified and wanted Villa, Silva, Dani Alvez etc way before they were really known over here. He just didn't have the money.

Many of the names listed above were free or low value transfers because that's all we were able to go for at the time. Some others were taken in situations forced upon us, like Nunez as part of the Owen situation.

Aqualani and Keane apart, all the others were next to no money.

ConnorsLFC

To say Rafa wasn't given enough money to buy quality is ridiculous, he splashed around 40m on keane and aqualani alone.

davethebutcher

davethebutcher

Why cant people get it through their heads that Benitez had no money and had to make do with buying average players? Do you think players like Voronin and Ngog would have been options if he had money to spend?

Benitez has demonstrated that when significant funds are available and he is in control of transfers then the right people are brought in.

People can try and sully Benitez as much as they want but it wont detract from the fact that he has been our best and most successful manager of the past 20 years.

He is the best tactician in the world, knows how to develop youth, is passionate about the club, is a complete perfectionist, has an eye for world class players and knows the club inside out...he is perfect and anybody who says any different is an idiot.

Cant believe people on hear screaming about amateurs like Rodgers or Martinez but do not want one of the finest managers in the game, very odd.

Rafa never wanted Keane and bombed him out after 6 months.

As for Aqualani, I think he would have done well with the right attitude, but for every Aqualani I remember 30 million wasted on Veron by united

We only paid £4.5m up front for Aquilani.
Keane was basically forced on Rafa. He didn't want him, but Parry did.
To the poster that listed the players Rafa wanted, don't forget he wanted Aguero long before he came the star he is now. I can't remember the exact price, but it was around the £11m-£13m bracket.
People conveniently forget the fact that H&G basically told rafa to buy to sell. Alonso came off a poor year and a bit (after Fat Frank broke his ankle) and he was a saleable asset and being honest we were going to miss him. Especially when Barry and Gerrard worked so well with England. The fact that Alonso then went onto have his best season ever was a shame (although good for us that year). Unfortunately, the damage was done and he wanted to leave. The whole blame lays with H&G.

Then there is the fact that we sold him for £30m and rafa was told there would be only about £5m for new signings.

We paid £4.5m up front for Aquilani as a replacement for Alonso.
Rafa's hands were tied on this one too.

I think it's safe to say that the Rafa haters will see the bad side and the Rafa likers will see the other side.

Just as with Kenny.

We have been poor all season and any other manager would go, yet because he is a LFC legend some fans want him to stay. {Ed005's Note -Aquilani, according to Rafa himself, wasn't seen as Alonso's replacement. Rafa was promised £30m from the Alonso deal to replace Alonso and never got it. Aquilani was just going to be an additional player. That's what Rafa would lead us to believe anyway.}

Rafa had to search for bargain buys pretty much year in year out.

Cheers

Guys,

I just wanted to say, today is the last home game of the season and we should pay our respects to Kenny Dalglish....who knows it could be his last game in charge!

Kenny loves Liverpool as much as us fans do and has tried his best, if he has come short this year then so what! We are liverpool and love our own, what matters more then winning is the love we feel in our hearts for the club!! Anyone and everyone at Anfiled today....all I want to hear is Kenny's name being sung for the entire match he is our King...the Legend and the best ever player to don the red shirt....make him know that we love him no matter what has happened this season...make him know that we will always remember what he has done for this club...make him remember that we will always love him the same way he loves us and LFC!! YNWA

Killerpool

Take note fickle fans>>> Whatever your opinion is of Kenny Dalglish, the man stood up when we were in the mire. He delivered 1 trophy & moved us further ahead of UTD in overall trophies. Whatever happens next year, I'd like to say thanks Kenny.

We have been linked with some good players mate im most excited about luuk de jong okay the leauge he in aint that great but as a package i think striker wise hes what we need he is still very young but his awareness and vision are second to none.hope we get him

We are getting "CRAP" players again. I was in the board meeting last year and kenny had a piece of paper one side had good players on it, the other side had crap players, John Henry said to him, if you beat me at snap you can have the good players... He lost, this year he played him in Jenga and lost again. Sorry to disappoint you boys.

I think agger would really command the dm roll giving shelvy the chance to get forward and the amount of running that kuyt and maxi will do should really tire the older Chelsea players giving Stirling and hendo more chance of an impact for last 20-30 mins. Also with the formation it can easily change to a 4-4-2 or 3-4-3 if need be to change it up a bit

Hey eds.. great job with the site..
i have observed that lfc spent 55million in the summer(excluding player sales).. just wanted to bring it to everybodys attention that it is exactly the difference between total revenue and player wages from the 2010-11 accounts.. should the same trend continue this summer, i expect us to have 60 million plus the money raised from the sales of meireles and ngog of about 16.5 million..all together a 75 million transfer kitty.. fingers crossed..

I don't care who wants to play for us when they aren't good enough as a first team player. Too often poor distribution and mis-timed tackles. Aquilani doesn't want to play for LFC but he aint crap.

Is any other Liverpool been really frustrated with the year in year out performances? why can't we play like (and it hurts me to say this) Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Barcelona. They have one thing on their minds and that is to attack as quick as possible once the opposition have lost the ball. They have quick players who can dance past the opposition before they even know what has happened. We however, intend to play the ball between the back 5 and let the opposition get back into position to defend. I hear Robben is stalling over a new deal. I would jump at the chance to sign him, we need another quality midfielder as in resigning Alonso, trying or leat be interested to buy the likes Hazard, Snejider and a better right winger with us trying to buy Lennon from Spurs and maybe Ribery from Bayern. We need good quality players who will earn the money the club gives them not the handouts week in week out! The performance from Saturday's cup final was poor up until they scored the 2nd goal. Why CANT we play like that week in week out and from the start of the season!

Hope we buy good quality players and get rid of nearly good players YNWA

Robbens a spurs fan and was looking for a move if any to them! lennon hates us, and were too small for sneijder, hazard & or ribbery

Harry Redknapp proved that lower league managers can thrive in the premier league at bigger clubs

BthekingB

Shanks hadn't exactly managed big clubs before he came to the Pool and made us a big club.
Ferguson - Aberdeen to the Mancs
Wenger - Monaco to Arsenal (vis Grampus 8)
Moyes - Preston to Everton
You don't need to have managed a big club before coming to Liverpool - just be a manager capable of doing it. Spotting that person is the trick.

Martinez's greatest achievement every season as a manager is his ability to make everyone forget about the previous 30 games where his team have been awful and languish in the relegation zone and then is declared a genius for keeping them up when they finally string some results together in the last 8 games...Not for me...
Cormac D

Ok harry exception but how many others have aslo wen harry went to tottenham he had a decent squad and money

Martinez has done no better than the last two Wigan managers, Steve Bruce & Paul Jewell. They both saved Wigan from the drop, whilst Jewell actually took Wigan to the league cup final too.

Does this mean that you would want them as Liverpool manager? No, thought not.

Suarez will be sold to Real Madrid (Probably).
Others to go will be Aquillani, Cole, Kuyt and Rodriguez, spearing, maybe Johnson.
Incomings are likely to be De jong (possibly x2), A. Johnson (keep hearing him linked with us!), Bellhanda, Giroud.
Also Milner may leave Citeh...
Everyone's having a go at Henderson who KD has asked to play out of position, In a system that doesnt work (1st hour v Chelski on Sat) but looked a far better player when playing in his more natural role for the last half hour.

Sorry, missed your name.... again!

Rafa has told friends that he would be willing to take a substantial wage cut to become Liverpool manager again. He is biding his time hoping Liverpool approach him in the coming months.

Director of Funk

Wage cut?? the blokes on the dole isn't he?

Well then RAFa will have to wait a long time

Henry has already blamed Rafa (quoted in many articles) on the surplus of poor players at LFC, don't think Henry will give him the reins again, do you?

Hi Eds & Reds,

As we approach the final home game of the season and there could a cou[le faces possibly making final appearance at Anfield tonight i'd like give my assessment of the squad this season:

Reina : No denying Pep's is a world class keeper but has been beaten at his near post far too often this season, its probably been his worst since arriving at the club, i am in no way calling to sell him, but we could do a whole lot worse than signing a keeper who is going to push him for his spot and keep him on his toes. Perhaps someone like a Paul Robinson or Wayne Hennessy.

Johnson: He has been founding wanting far too many times defensively for my liking, great going forward, IMO i'd play him right side midfield, if he was to be sold in summer, i dont think we would be too suprised.

Kelly: For me, first choice right back, strong in tackle, good in the air, good going forward, but most importantly, the lad can defend.

Skertel : Been player of the season, immense, has really developed into a quality player in last couple of season

Agger: Has formed a solid partnership with Skertel, when he is fit. If we can keep him fit for a season, we would be a lot more solid at the back, his fitness has to come into question though, he has missed nearly half of Anfield career through injury. Coates will push him tough.

Carragher: Carra has been a legend, magnificant servant, but unfortunately he no longer has the pace and that has been found out on a number of ocassions,perhaps Carra will take up a player/coach role next season, Coates would learn a hell of a lot from him.

Enrique: Fairly solid all season, bit of a dip of form after Christmas, but like Reina, needs a bit of experienced competition with likleyhood of Robinson going on loan next season

Gerrard: Missed a lot of season through injury, has received a lot of flak here, some warranted, some very much unwarranted, but having a full fit Stevie g next season along with Lucas and we will se a difference.

Lucas: As I have said before, LFC's most improved player, future captain/vice captain.

Spearing: He's given it his best shot but unfortunately not good enough, a bit like Ryan Babel, had plenty of potential but has not showing it on a consistent basis, I think spearing will be sold in summer and an experienced CDM brought in as cover for Lucas.

Henderson: Played out of position for alot of the season, but i think the lad will come good.

Downing: Consistantly inconsistant. LFC version of Aidan McGeady.

Adam: Taxi for Adam and i'll pay for it myself if needs.Small fish in a big pond, not good enough.

Shelvey:I am not sure where young Kojak should play, perhaps another loan move is on the cards.

Kuyt: No one can doubt the work ethic of Dirk, he has scored some vital goals for us down through the years and this season, looks as if hes heading home to Holland, cheers Dirk.

Suarez: Has world class skills, no one denying that, the Evra incident was unsavioury, i think he has lerned his lesson, but he needs a higher goal return.

Carroll: The lad has received some awful flak, some warranted some unwarranted, but when we play to his strenghts like the last half hour of fa cup final, the lad is immense and he will come good.

Bellamy: Bellers has great since he arrived, always shows passion and drive.

Maxi: Under utilised, has played great stuff when him and Bellers have played together, looks as he too could be moving on

What has been the worst part of this season? Yes results have been horrific, but the lack of passion shown by some players during matches was even worse.

Daglish: Football is a results based business and quite frankly, Kenny has far from done the business, now I am not calling for his head, but you cant help wonder how much infulence had Comolli on the team, selections, style of play etc, maybe we will never know, but at the end of the day, Kenny was given a mandate by FSG and has not been delivered, I hope he is given time, I really do, but if FSG decide enough is enough, I would like it to happen as soon as possible, so give new manager maximum time to improve squad. I am not in favour of this whole DOF, too many cooks spoil the broathe, but if it is to be, I'd like someone like David Dein or Tixiri.

On a separate note, I think Sterling should start the last 2 games of the season, even give the likes of Morgan, Coady a run out, we have nothing gain and nothing to lose.

In relation to signings, I'd like see us sign a right winger, strong back up keeper, experienced CDM, Experienced LB (back up) and 2 strikers. We need strength and depth

Rebel_Red

One of the more sensible posts on this site over the past few days.

Agreed, a very good post.

Really annoys me...when someone mentions morgan as it proves they have no interest in actually watching the reserves or youth team play!! Morgan has not been good enough this year to even make the reserves let alone the first team!! Suso and Sterling should be given a run out though....

hi eds, i personally think that Roberto martinez would be a great appointmnt as manager although i would like kenny to be given one more season i think would should enquire about junior hoilett very exciting young player and he would be available at low price as blackburn have been relegated also next season i would also like to see Raheem sterling play more first team football next season as i have been watching alot of lfc reserve games recently and he is a great prospect another lfc prospect is suso but their has been rumours linking him with a move to spain i personally hope this doesent happen wat do you think of him eds? {Ed023's Note - Suso will get his chance with the 1st team next season as will Sterling. Hoillet wasn't planning on extended his stay at Blackburn so their relegation was irrelevant to that. Although, Hoillet is out of contract Blackburn will still get some kind of a fee because he is under 23 just like Man City got money from Chelsea for Daniel Sturridge.

Cheers eds {Ed023's Note - No problem}

The criticism of Spearing has been both unfair and disrespectful. Yes, I'm not his biggest fan but the lad shows more passion and grit than most players on the pitch. Ok, so the lad has lost form in a team low on confidence - who hasn't? Yet some people are putting the blame on this lads shoulders. Remember, Stevie insists that he has a preference to playing with Jay(and he's played with some top Central midfielders). He's a squad player at best in my opinion....but not to blame for some poor recent performances. I hope he stays for many more years.

DaveyBootle

The Fella is not good enough even to be a squad player.. Forget what Stevie G says.. do we expect Stevie to tell that Jay Spearing is crap in public... of course not..

If we want to have players of Spearing quality as squad players then welcome to mid table forget top 4...

Bosco

Dont want him, we need talent not just effort and he falls well short in the talent department. With players like him well stay a mid table team.

Stevie doesn't just say it in public. The problem is that if the Captain has a preference then that's the way it is sometimes. I didn't say he was good enough, I said lay off him, It's not all his fault.

DaveyBootle

I don't get this, he's good enough to be a squad player,At the start of the season he was thought good enough to be in the squad.Once Lucas got injured, Jay has played most games in the Lucas role.He has come up way short of what we need to be a replacement, unless of course you want to finish midtable.Squad players should be able to fill in without dramatically weakening the team.We should have someone experienced, like for like, in the squad, so they put pressure on each other to perform.Enrique has gone off the boil, or has become complacent, because he's not got a rival for his place.Skrtle and Agger have performed great, because they have competition with Carra and Coates, biting at their heels for a place.Jay his not good enough,but he's not the only one who has come up short.No pun intended.

Been a liverpool supporter since 77 and must admit that one of my favourite striker partnerships was fowler and collymore! fowler was superb, and collymore was at the end of the day a waste of talent which i hope that Andy Carroll hopefully should learn a lesson from..........oh, and I think as a team we start getting a bit of a nasty streak, we are too nice

what i'd like to see happen:
------------------REINA----------------
-VAN DER WIEL-SKRTEL-AGGER-ENRIQUE-
-BELHANDA-LUCAS-GERRARD-A.JOHNSON-
-----------------SUAREZ----------------
-----------------DE JONG---------------
SUBS:DONI,KELLY,,HENDO,ADAM,DOWNING,BELLAMY,CARROLL

Big NO to Adam Johnson, would prefer a player who didn't have an ego problem and is more concerned with playing on the field than spending his time lookin after what he can get off the pitch with his money. I would have G.Ramirez, I.Afellay, Y.Belhenda, R.Sterling and Stewart Downing down the left b4 Adam Johnson. Even Matt Jarvis!!!

Havin seen j w henry not shake kennys hand after the cup final loss i think a major announcement will be made as soon as the season ends .As for transfers . junior hoillet ,victor moses ,and the like . These are not international players of high enough quality to play for liverpool .We need solid deependable players who will put the graft in for a whole season and not just 5 or 6 games . Players along the standard of alonso ,masch were should be scouted and approached with a view to buy ,instead taking dead wood from relegated teams .

08 May 2012 11:33:19
I feel like most people that the season has been a huge disappointment with our only successes coming in the cups. However I do feel for many of the games we have seen the football we have played hasn't been too bad and we have dropped points in games we could have and should have easily won.
Transfers:
I think its common knowledge that the club is on the look out for british talent and based on last summer are willing to spend money on any english player, Henderson and Downing stand out.
Outs:
Kuyt, Cole, Aquilani, Maxi (big loss in my eyes), Johnson.
There will be interest in Reina, Skrtel, Agger and Suarez I am just hoping despite reina's poor season we keep hold of all 4.
In:
I wouldn't expect many transfers in and what we do have in expect to have, on the whole, prem experience. These are TARGETS I have heard from people who have very minor roles (not ITK) at the club.
Moses (Wigan)
Hoillett (Blackburn)
Jarvis (Wolves)
Johnson (Manchester City)
Fletcher (Wolves)
Demspey (Fulham)
Robinson (Blackburn)
Zaha (Palace)
De Jong (Twente)
Susaeta (Bilbao)
There may be more to come I can't help thinking I have missed another brit off the list but yea few players in mainly brits. The rest of the squad will be made up the youth talent already at the club e.g. sterling, suso, robinson, flanagan, shelvey, coady, wisdom, teixeira and peterson.

NOT ITK

Take Suaaeta, Ramirez, De Jong and perhaps Dempsey away.. if we are targeting the rest .then oh god save Liverpool...Are we targeting EPL survival next season..

Bosco

How can it be 'common knowledge' that LFC are looking Brits if the club don't even know who the manager or DOF is yet for next season.

08 May 2012 11:33:02
I really like the idea of Aquilani coming back, he could sit alongside Lucas in the 4-2-3-1 like the days of Alonso-Macherano (I'm not comparing them, I just really like that idea) significant signings aren't even needed if you think about it. A winger, a creative midfielder and a back up striker and maybe a LB to compete with Enrique, who seems to be taking his place for granted at the moment.
Out:
Adam, Aurelió, Cole, Maxi, Kuyt, Spearing

What's wrong with you people?
Is it even possible to be that thick?
HE DOESN'T WANT TO PLAY IN ENGLAND

Scrolling though this page and since when did liverpool become interested in such poo players such as Paul Robinson, Yakubu, the chinese guy from bolton, fletcher?
We need to be looking at players such as Luke de Jong, Muniain, Llorente, Javi Martinez, Hazard, Rakitic! We need to stop thinking like a mid-table team that buy dodgy old players! All you posted before this you should be ashamed mentioning Robinson, Yakubu, Fletcher at least!!

Big players come to a club where they can compete at the highest levels which u surely r not providing them at at the moment with and its really sad because your club is and will always be the main stand of english football and its sad whats happening with u guys for the last 2 seasons but i hope u come up gud next year :)

Sorry if this has already been posted but on Soccernet Valencia have said they offered AVB the manager job before offering it to Pellegrino, but AVB has accepted a job offer from elsewhere.

Putting two and two together, could he have accepted us? Why is it not reported anywhere that he has taken another job, waiting for KK to step aside? If it is true that he was our first choice before he accepted Chelsea then it makes sense. It should be news that he has accepted another job, unless he has been asked to keep quiet for now?

Just putting it out there.

Michael Bland {Ed023's Note - He has accepted a offer from Roma}

Yes it's Roma

i think hoilett is going for a free this summer so if we dont go for him it'd be stupid or atleast enquire {Ed023's Note - He may be out of contract but Blackburn will still be owed a compensation package just like Man City got with Daniel Sturridge}

I think he'd be an excellent buy.

To everyone who thinks Jose Reina shud be sold:
FORM IS TEMPORARY, CLASS IS PERMANENT.
He will be back to his best next season, of this im 100% certain.
Indian Buzzer

For me it's not even a form issue, it's all the 'rooted to the spot' antics he does as if he's suggesting the DF''s have screw*d up.

Totally agree. Most top keepers have a poor season at some stage, the best work out why and come back stronger. Pepe is only being judged by the outstanding standards that he set !

Good to finally agree with you, Buzzer :)

Indeed Cech has been poor for the past 18 months but seems to have been coming threw this period.

Give him the support that chelsea gave Petr Cech when he was on a poor run, now look how well cech is playing. Reina will shut all his doubters n the stupid mancs who think that useless DDG is better than him up once it for all.

kenny is not a good coach. motivator n all is a good handy thing but all u need is right tactics on the ground.

1.spearing n hendo ..in a FA cup final...great

2. the forward situation = its been a year n still he isnt sure whether to play andy or not....NOW im not saying just coz he scored ..carroll has been the only player in recent games who has shown some hunger n grit to prove something ...STILL HE IS LEFT OUT.

3. GERRARD is player so deep. either he is asked to..or he decides to...as spearing cant handle it alone ...anyways

4. maxi,kyut ..are not played...u sell meireles , loan aqualani (spell?) .

i mean who the F.... responsible for all these mistakes ?

im not saying its not carroll or henos fault ..yup the signings are avg (100min lol) ..but kenny has made them look more poor with constant change in formation. bellamy starts left then u see him on right next moment hendo is from center to right .downing so on....DOES THESE PLAYERS KNOW THEIR BEST POSITIONS ? does kenny knows?

Meireles and certainly Aquilani will not be big losses in the bigger picture of it all, they also didn't want to play for the club.

What a plonker. Aquilani didn't want to play for us so it wasn't a mistake. Mereiles wanted to go - did you read the Chelsea comments on his form earlier in the season?
KK changed things around after we went behind and is criticised. What else does he do. On Sunday Man C brought on de Jong and moved YaYa forward and he scored two. It worked. KK brought on Carroll and it would have worked had not Cech made a brilliant save. Go back to school.

I don't like picking players out but two players that worry me are reina and enrique. Reina has been shocking
this season. Enrique has been awful since Christmas and I would drop him tonight. In the summer he needs to work on his defensive play. I think Robinson will push him next season.

Mighty reds {Ed023's Note - Robinson will more than likely go on loan next season with Aston Villa favourites}

08 May 2012 10:43:32
When Kenny answered the call to step back in and stabilise the sinking ship, we were overjoyed at both the return of a legend and seeing the back of Roy Hodgson.
We asked for Kenny and were thrilled with how we played the second half of last season. Indeed counting only the points since he took over, we'd have finished second. The football was more exciting, certainly more penetrating, and players who looked stifled under Hodgson began to blossom. Realising we had nothing to lose, Kenny appropriately began blooding the kids - Flano, Robbo, Jay, Shelvey were actively involved while Suso and Sterlo travelled with the squad in Europe and trained at Melwood - and they didn't let him down. He's brilliant at man-managing and having been there himself, he always seems to know what to say to players at the right time. Lucas said that of him in an interview.
Come last summer everyone was excited about who we'd sign. I was excited, but not deluded. Of course those who expected Aguero, Neymar etc. were disappointed but it's not Kenny's fault we can't sign such players.
I didn't want Downing, Adam, Doni or Jose Enrique. I was satisfied with Hendo, Bellamy and the earlier trade-off involving Suarez and Carroll for Torres. But whatever your opinions about our signings it's important to note the calibre of player they replaced. I'm thrilled we've got this lot instead of Poulsen, Konchesky, Jovanovic, Itandje and the rest.
Prices paid for our signings didn't represent value but if that's what we had to pay and the club/owners were prepared to pay it, it's fine by me. The only issue I have with the prices is the pressure they put on the players and I think it's affected Carroll, Hendo and Downing. That's not Kenny's fault.
The football played under Kenny last season that had us excited has been bettered this season. Apart from tearing teams to shreds and being denied by the woodwork, strings of brilliant saves or poor finishing, we played Arsenal and Everton off the park twice each as well as united and City at Anfield. We won at Chelsea. I won't mention cup performances because, for some reason, people think cups are meaningless. Liverpool think they're important and we've done very well in them. The football played under Kenny is lightyears better than anything Rafa or Hodgson could inspire. Imagine if Kenny had the players Rafa had!
Kenny has more football knowledge in one foot than half the managers being touted to replace him. Modern football? What's changed? Technology certainly, but the ball is still round and it's still eleven humans against eleven humans.
His tactics haven't always been perfect. It's his first season with these players so it will take time. Most of the games we haven't won weren't due to his tactics. All he could have done was run onto the pitch and tap in the rebounds off the post or the keeper. And that would have been the case if Guardiola was stood in the dugout.
We drew 0-0 at home to Stoke and because we played three at the back it was clear that Kenny was tactically inept. We had chances to win the match and if we played a more open game we could've created chance after chance and lost 1-0 and there'd still be moaning.
We need to relax, adopt some perspective and get behind the team and the boss. Things aren't as bad as fans of other clubs like to tell us. We'll take more of our chances next season, we'll be more familiar with each other, Kenny will know what he can expect from certain players and where he needs to strengthen, we'll hopefully have better luck with injuries and the woodwork.
I hope and pray that the owners aren't as short-sighted as some of the fans and that Kenny is given the time and support he deserves.

Merseyswimmer

Good post but I would like to point out that its kk tactics (or clarkes) that has us playing with only one player in the box. thats why we have failed to score in sooooo many games.... Yes the woodwork stopped the shot or the keeper parried it but the rebound fell to their players because we never have enough players in the box.

Thank you Merseyswimmer, that is exactly right. People are now saying we should get Martinez because of how Wigan are playing. They weren't saying that when Wigan went on an 8 match losing run a couple of months ago. Managers can do so much but the rest has to be done on the pitch. Why did Carroll come on and play with so much fervour on Saturday when he has looked lacklustre in earlier matches? I don't know the answer any more than any other supporter but the management team will be able to decide. KK has supported his players this season when they deserved to be supported. If he criticises them publicly then he would risk losing them completely. He knows that.
It is obvious KK will meet with owners after the season is over and decisions will be made. They will be made by people who want the club to be successful in the long term and not by people who react to tabloid headlines.

Spend the money on promising creative players, such as:

Im sorry but every1 expecting all these players to come in just about everybody we are linked with are also linked with other teams that have cl football the only way we are going to be able to sign good players if if we throw loads of money out there and I do not expect this to happen over last summer it's really hurts to say this but I don't see Liverpool making any progress next season unless Liverpool can promise these players that we are going to be putting in a serious challeng for the premier league tittle and if Liverpool starts want to leave in the summer it will get even harder for us to get ahead

Banter Please
I just want to add my two cents on this whole Gerrard issue,
I feel really sad to see my fellow fans saying things like hes not good enough anymore, past his sell by date etc
We must remember that he has been through a recurring injury thats hes only just recovered from. Also the fact that Lucas is out injured leaving him as the only real EXPERIENCED midfielder bar Adam who is out too.
He has to deal with the ineffieciences of Spearing, Henderson etc which is why you find him more at the back trying to pick up the play and add some urgency.
I really DESPISE Man Utd and am saddened to have to say this but some fans need to pull a leaf out thier book! Look at how they value Giggs and Scholes, they literally worship them and rightly so!
What we have to REALISE is that Gerrard is NOT the same as he was in his prime BUT he is still way better than 70% of CM's out there.
If allowed to operate in the CAM position and have a rock like Lucas who would intercept, tackle, hussle and graft at CDM then I can assure you, the Gerrard of old will manifest himself.
I guess what I'm trying to say is give the guy a break ffs lol

Please make sure that was Jay Spearing's last ever game for this club #wasteofspace , {Ed023's Note - No need what so ever for calling the lad a waste of space, he gives his all for the shirt but he isn't good enough. Some people on here for call Aquilani to be kept when he doesn't give a damn about any of the fans or Liverpool and then condemn the lads who try their heart out for the cause. Really puzzles me}

Its not the lads fault he gets picked for the cup final. All he can do is go out there and do his best.(which he did) for all his faults he never goes missing and gives 100%. Perhaps if some of our so called superstars took a leaf out of his book and took pride wearing the red shirt we would not be where we are now.

Saying all that I believe he should be moved on in the summer as he has had his chance to cement a place in the side and just doesnt make the grade. But we should all wish him well, a local lad who never gave us less than his all.

Kev the Red

May be the Fella deserve some respect.

KD has to take blame for playing him and deciding on relying on him in the absence of Lucas.

Should have sold the Fella to Wolves, they were interested in him January..

Spearing deserves some respect but he is not good enough.

Bosco

He got it spot on jay spearing is a waste of space

Hi Eds, what is happening with Vertonghen?
It seemed like last week he was nailed on to go to Arsenal, but it seems more and more likely that he might end up at tottenham. Where do you think he will go? (sorry for putting this in Liverpool side) {Ed023's Note - Unconfirmed reports are linking him with Spurs, Man United & Arsenal. I honestly do not know where he will end up}

If Kenny goes and Tixi Bergistrian (spelling) gets the DOF job. I would like to see him promote Rodolfo to the 1st team. Maybe even manager? Him and Tixi have worked together at Barca, could be worth a punt. These 2 combined could be a match made in heaven. I really enjoy watching Rodolfos teams play and would be very interested to see what he could do as manager or assistant.

If I were FSG, I would pull out all the stops to get Tixi. Whether Kenny stays or go and promote Rodolfo anyway.

Good call Blair, I think your spot on with that mate.

DoF - Tixi Bergistrian
Manager - Kenny Dalglish
Assistant - Rodolfo Borrell
Coaches - Steve Clarke and Steve Nicol

That would be a very good team in my opinion. {Ed023's Note - According to ed002 Nicol would be much better in a manager's role lol}

Rumours are hes coming next week "tixi for dalglish" lol

No need of Nicol when we have much better Steve Clarke.

If Kenny is staying I want Kenny to get a great attack minded coach to work along with him.. some like Pako, Borrell or even Laudrap if he is willing to work along with KD.

Kevin Kean is crap Kenny needs to replace him.

I know at this stage it is only paper talk and nothing is concrete, but the constant rumours of potential Liverpool targets such as Belhanda, De Jong, M'Vila, Hoilett etc are being linked with other clubs and deals being in place is slightly disconcerting for me.

FSG need to appoint a DoF (if that's the way they want to go) soon other wise we risk being left behind in the transfer market. Txiki Bergesterian is top of the list from what I've seen on here, but whoever it is they need to be in place soon.

I know one of the eds said that the window open 1st July, but many deals are agreed well before then (e.g. Marin, Podolski, Shaqiri etc.)

F.A.O -redmad- You say:- "King Kenny to be handed a kitty of £30 to spend" ...SO, ONE... WORLD... CLASS... PLAYER? Or several crap ones like before?

Nah, won't get much for £30 maybe a smart haircut?

1 thing for sure is Kenny will not put all his eggs in 1 basket,but will look to bolster the team with more quality in depth. Hoilett,Keita & Dann are 3 that can come in to do this,but he wont be put off 2/3 bigger targets, such as,De jong Milner,Elm,Ramirez,Giroud & Bent.
all being considered by Liverpool.

Bent? are you serious?

Kenny will not be manager next season, players don't like his outdated tactics and training sessions, guarantee you this

Fulham are on talks to sign Luciano Narsingh and Assaidi not sure about the latter but Narsingh is a quality player and may get a bargain think of Dempsey Dembele Bryan Ruiz Prog Feri Kasemi kacaniklic some attacking talent and we have much better than wingers/attacking mids we have (Maxi can"t buy a game so he doesn't count if not he is a top player agree)

Luciano Narsingh is young great talent very good option for RW, but sadly we will be after Victor Mosses paying twice or thrice the price of Narsingh to get him...

If we lost Pepe id want a move for one of the following:

Al Habsi

Some of the above are proven top quality international stoppers, others have been immense in our league this season.

I hope we lose him.

Ed 001,what are the chances of liverpool bringing in more youth players with great potential but unlike last summer they would come cheap?

Players like nathaniel clyne,sime vrsaljko,sebastian corchia,dusan tadic,hoilett,adam maher,juan iturbe etc? {Ed023's Note - Ed001 isn't around now but some of those players listed wouldn't come cheap. Vrsaljko for example was quoted at 15 million in January.}

The goat of mendes - I am not 'turning on' etc etc
I am stating the obvious. Certain players can no
longer do what they once did and therefore they are becoming part of the problem. Same applies to Kenny Dalglish - but as long as we have silly people like you around who decide that 'legends' can play/manage for as long as THEY want to then we will continue this downward spiral
and to suggest that anyone offering an observation on the team that doesn't match your own is not a true supporter is childish in the extreme (don't suppose you will read this until school is out though)

Eds,
I'm pretty sure Suarez will leave this summer with the lack of public commitment from the club. In my opinion it will be a HUGE step backwards. How do the club think they will compete for CL football next year without Luis. He has been an inspriration this season, his goalscoring and assist records have been decent this season. When Torres left, I didnt think the club would come across such a high calibre replacement in such short time.
We need to bolster the wings with talent such as Adam Johnson and Muniain and add more potency up front with the likes of Luuk De Jong. The rest of the squad is strong enough to compete (with the return of Lucas). Losing Suarez will be a MAJOR step in the wrong direction which the club and the fans will pay for dearly in the forseable future. Whats your opinions Ed's?
YNWA
D16RED {Ed023's Note - Is Carroll, Gerrard, Downing etc getting public backing from the club? Are they leaving? You're just being paranoid. Suarez got heavily backed by the club back in December/January time. I agree that we need width in our side and I expect the management to think the same.}

The problem is that NO-ONE can compete financially with Man City, if they want a player that someone else wants they WILL out-bid whoever it maybe. They can and will offer any player more wages than any other club. It's just a fact of life at the moment.

Hi Ed(s),

What do you think the deal is with Andy Carroll? Because it really racks my brain trying to think of a solution.

If we keep him then for me he has to be playing week in, week out & we have to play to his strengths like we did for 30 mins against Chelsea. But that is a risk in itself because you don't know which Andy will turn up..

So do we sell him? Accept a loss of about £20-25m? Then spend roughly £12-15m for Luuk De Jong? That doesn't sound too bad, but I could imagine the media going absolutely crazy on this for the entire summer, putting a thick black cloud over the club which will certainly not help.

Cheers,
Stone YNWA. {Ed023's Note - We just need two out and out wingers to accommodate Carroll and that will be discussed by whomever the management may be come the summer. I don't think Carroll will leave neither do I think we would get 20 million plus.}

I didn't say we would get £20-25m, I said we would lose that much if we sold him.

We've been heavily linked with Luuk De Jong yet I can't see him & Andy Carroll being at the club. It's one or the other for me.

Who do you think we will try & sign (striker) if we keep Carroll & Suarez?

Cheers,
Stone YNWA.

I've been told we're trying to get a couple (probably only be successful in getting one) Real Madrid youngsters on loan.

We were approached and asked if we wanted to take Jose Zamora on loan, which I believe we turned down (makes sense, he's 23 and still knocking about in their reserves) but we went back and enquired about the loan availability of a few of the other youngsters.

No idea if the loans are with a view to buy, or simply stop gaps for the season.

Cheers guys

My point was, we getting some deals done just as Chavs did it with Marko Marin & Arsenal did with Podolski [now on the verge of Verthongen & M'Villa too].

So how abt we rapping up deals for Gaston Ramirez &
Luke De Jong/Elm atleast..

what do you think about Claudio Ranieri.... i think he would be a great manager for lfc ??

08 May 2012 08:44:40
Adam Johnson and James Milner would be my signings this summer I'd Offer 40mil + aquilani. {Ed023's Note - Aquilani doesn't want to play in the premiership and if we bidded 40 million for two fringe players we should be shot. Not denying their talent but 40 million? No way}

You do realise that for probably LESS than £40 million you could Get Luuk De Jong, Gaston Ramirez AND Ibrahim Afellay!!

- Luuk De Jong £12-15 million
- Gaston Ramirez £16.3 million
- Ibrahim Afellay £6-7 million

All three of these players for me are getable and would provide far more quality and effectiveness than James Milner and Adam 'Ego' Johnson.

Eds do you know when liverpools next season kit is going to be released seen as the likes of arsenal already have released theres, anxious to see whether changing to warrior sports will make the kit much different? {Ed023's Note - It will be revealed on Friday evening on the official website. I'm sure if you can order it when it is revealed thought, maybe a poster can answer that}

Are LFC allowed to wear it at Swansea, do you know ed ?
The Real KB {Ed023's Note - No mate, cannot wear it until the current deal with Adidas expires}

Looking forward to new kit but the worst thing is my kids asking for names on the back when you don't know who will be there next year. If only the club had a money back system if a player is sold. All I can say is don't sell luis Suarez. It would be a major step backwards, fergie would be laughing at us and it would cost me a fortune.

Hi guys,great site,posting for the first time.
Well i am really surprised Joao moutinho(porto) is not a hot property this summer,cause he is fairly young,technical and a right mix of attack nd defence.Especially lfc do need someone like him to play alongside lucas behind SG and he seems an easy target given the lack of interest from big-spenders.
Could u please shed some light on his situation EDs?
Thanks

Just curious do the Ed's think that Sterling will get more playing time in the last 2 games maybe not agains't Chelsea but surely at least the last game against Swansea? Also what do you think about these rumours that he wants to leave to another club because of not getting enough first team action I honestly don't believe that and anyway if he wants first team action so bad surely it wouldn't hurt just to inform him whats at stake and then let him play if he really wants to that badly. Just curious what are your thoughts on this I honestly just want to see the kid play more he looks good and I want to see what hes capable of. {Ed023's Note - For the so called 'in the knows' on twitter who claim Sterling is unhappy are just either anti-Liverpool or just were board and wanted to stir some stuff - Sterling is only 17 and has 2 appearances under his belt and will probably make another cameo against Swansea and maybe tonight, who knows.}

If suarez isn't sold... which other players wud b sold in summer? To generate money for new signings

08 May 2012 07:08:21
The reason I'd like to see Rafa come back is that he knows the Spanish league which is technically the best in the world. He has good contacts in Spain and I think we would get mor value for money. If we buy promising British talent like we have under Kenny then the budget will go very quickly on Mediocrity. That's not to say Rafa didn't buy some average players, but players in Spain are cheaper than here..Look at Henderson!

I really believe that with a couple of signings in the summer - Rafa would put us back top 4. Then we can sign great players.

Sorry Kenny - to finish 9th from 6th last year after all that money isn't progress for me no matter how many times we hit the post.

Gazman

It's the owners decision whether KD gets another season or moved 'upstairs'. My question, Gazman (no disrespect intended): are you going to back Rafa all the way, even if we are mid-table midway through the new season? Singred

As a matter of interest, which style of football did/do you prefer between KK and Rafa, forgetting the results if possible?

AK

You do realise that we need to have a certain amount of English players in our team don't you? You are aware that English players in our league are over priced? United paid the same price for Jones as we paid for Henderson so what is your point?

Rafa was a good manager for us but we should look forward, not back. Rafa had how many seasons?? Kenny's had ONE..Raffa was going to replace Alonso with Barry, (British)
Alonso moved on.

If you can't support us when we loose, don't bother supporting us when we win...

Also when Rafa was managerial the top4 was always the same,
United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal. You now have Spurs up fighting and, well City are the wealthiest club in the world. Making it harder than ever to secure top4.

Try SUPPORTING Liverpool and give Kenny a chance to build a team. Rafa isn't the answer.

YNWA
TIZER RED

Agree completely. While nationality should not matter, the reality is that most of the world's footballing talent comes from Spanish or Portuguese-speaking countries. It is simply an advantage to have a similar manager.

Rafa bought alonso in the first place whats your point? Alonso was poor before that and rafa's job was to keep the team competing and like any manager you have to buy and sell to keep the team fresh, you keep going on about the same thing. If he didnt have to sell to buy he wouldnt have tried to sell him. On the other hand kenny's signings are downing, carroll, henderson, adam and enrique. Coates and suarez were already scouted and were coming in regardless of kenny dalglish being manager, if you look at those signings, the money wasted, the league position and how many poor records dalglish has broken this year he has to leave liverpool fc abd shouldnt be trusted in advising with any players. Difference between him and rafa, rafa bought alonso and garcia in his first season, those 2 players contributed more then those signings kenny made.RedTurk

Red Turk...
Since Rafa has left, the homegrown rule has come in to play meaning out of the 25 man sqaud seven of them need to be British (I'm sure that's the right figure) I'm not disputing the fact that Spanish players are technically better, but when Rafa took over we already had Champions League football meaning we could attract better players.

Andy Carroll is going to be a beast for us, worth 35m? Maybe not, but this guy will be amazing for us.
Jordan Henderson, the England u21 captain, worth 16m? I think it's about right as English players are more expensive as the top clubs want the top English players.
Stewart Downing, has shown little confidence but if he gains the form we seen at AV then he will be a good player for us. (he also created most chances in the Premier League)
Charlie Adam, he was shortlisted for player of the season, well worth the money we paid, he just needs confidence and played with Lucas.

Next season they have no excuse for performing well. They have had a season together and the flair from the Spanish League will hopefully be brought in.

I have to be honest, I am not really that interested in tonights game, I have no heart to watch the team again this season, and can't wait till its over.

Think...? Think of what? Bribery, match-fixing, Juve stripped of their title in 2006? Singred

I think the investment in new players such as Vucinic, Pirlo and Vidal for example was the main reason for them winning the league, not their stadium.

After the match fixing scandal, Juventus have rebuilt themselves to regain their place at the top of Italian Football. Liverpool need to consider doing something similar.

Bit cryptic over the Torres answer there. Could it be that there has been a feeler put out to see if there was interest?

Or is for another reason? Is there any expansion on the earlier answer?

Thanks

He is NOT and NEVER will be coming back is what macca is trying to say, no cryptic hidden messages just that he wont be back and we DONT NEED him back, getting so bored of all these ''liverpool fans'' wanting someone who walked out on us back! get over it has he scored 33 goals in a season again, no as it aint 2008! AH316

Torres made a decision, that he wasn't going to play in an FA Cup final for Liverpool or anybody else.

I see what your getting at pal. Gary Gillespie rounded the situation up on LFC tv last night, us fans need to lower our expectations. We can't compete financially with Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Or City.

On the face of it the owners acquired the club on the cheap so you would've assumed their business plan factored in a substantial sum for player overhaul and stadium refurb. That doesn't seem to be the case, they clearly want the business to fund this through low wages and the 'unearthing little gem' principle.

Gillespies got it spot on, fans need to lower expectations and except that we are no different to Everton. The table doesn't lie.

I'll guarantee Johnson goes in the summer because of his wages. He has his faults but still possesses quality and remains one of the best full backs in the league. Replaced with Flannagan (no where near good enough) or Kelly (6 foot 2 full back!!), natural at centre half. I'll guarantee the transfer activity in the summer will only serve to put us back further.

Ole ole, we had the best midfield in the world, we had xabi Alonso , momo sissoko, Gerrard and Mascherano oh oh. Compare that with Saturdays midfield sham, dear oh dear oh dear.

Luciano Narsingh off to Fulham according to the tabloids. That's a real shame. He's the exact type of player Liverpool need, and the type of player FSG said they'd be targeting; young, cheapish, talented and future sell on value.

He'll be one of the stars of the Euro's when Holland win it (they're my bet anyway).

Hopefully LFC have their targets lined up, but we seem to come late to all the talent at the moment.

I think that we should get rafa back tbh because he was a manager that got us CL football consistently til he screwed with Xabi nevertheless he would never have bought the sh17 that is Henderson, Adam, Carroll, Downing and also we would still adore KD without any problems not saying we dont still but there are a few who doubt the great man. Slate me if u want but put the scenario into perspective.

Who were the challengers for the top 4 under Rafa? No Newcastle, no Man City, no Spurs. Not underrating Rafa but things were very different then. CL was an assumed, and even then we didnt always finish top 4.

The 'Real' King?? You have to be kidding right? The man who was in charge of Liverpool for 5-6 years and nearly ruined us financlially? He's the real king? Not Kenny Dalglish who is arguably Liverpools greatest ever player and managed them to success in his first spell at the club, then came back when we needed him most jumped at the chance to help us out. Im sorry but Rafael Benitez is NOT the 'real' king.

Rafa benitez did a lot for the club with crappy owners, but didnt do enough to be called a 'King'. Today even kenny cannot be called our king. He was king of the 1980's, not the 21st century. we need a new king to lead us to the top.

He's given us his tickets and I've tried to take a look at the website to see what kind of view I'll have. On the ticket, it doesn't put us in a block but instead says "PREMIER CLUB in the Bob Paisley or Bill Shankly Suites, 1st Floor Centenary Stand." It also gives us the row and seat numbers. What does Premier Club include? I've had a look on the website and it doesn't give any info, just that season tickets are no longer available. Thanks if anyone can help. I can't wait, hopefully we'll end the home season with a win.

Hey Eds.
U seem to think Kenny is leaving, which managers do you think are in the running for the job?
Also who do YOU want as Manager and DOF.
I would want Emery/Klopp as manager and maybe a 'new bootroom' get Rodolfo as a 1st team coach instill Barca way, tactitan an perfectionist.
And Kenny too as a coach keep the liverpool way n help with Youth developement.
Would love a reply n comments on my idea!!

F5. {Ed005's Note - From a personal level I would like to see Quique Sanchez Flores or Emery however I am not sure who would be in the running - it all depends on who is the DoF. However there is a good chance it could be Dalglish.}

Just wondering ed is emmanuelson going to be available this summer and if so how much would he cost? {Ed005's Note - Yes he probably will be not sure on cost but I can't see LFC being interested if you are thinking along those lines.}

Hi Eds,
i got two queries;
1)Is there a decent chance that Txiki Begiristain could be the next D.O.F?

2)Do we have a chance of getting Frank De Boer to take over K.D?

I've got a feeling that,Roberto Martinez could be an outsanding manager for us if we don't get De Boer.
Thx,
Y.N.W.A {Ed005's Note - Yes and I am not sure.}

There's something I find hilarious. Countless post have condemmed and critisised Dalglish, Gerrard and Carragher and many have responded by saying, 'show them respect'. I don't think its a question of respect, its a question of ability. Carragher, in the last season or so, has been poor, he has experience yes, and although he never had pace, he's now perhaps the slowest player to grace the premier league. I won't even go into the mistakes he's made, I think, as divided and diverse our opinions on LFC are, it is universally accepted carragher is a liability to our team. Dalglish is a legend, there's no two ways about it, but legends should stay in the past. In my opinion he was the perfect man to come in when rafa left, to steady the ship in this transition period. However, to take the club forward, he's not the right man. He's wasted millions on players who simply haven't performed consistently. We need new ideas, he cannot offer that, he plays players out of position and tactics that reek of the 1980's. As good as we were then, our challengers have evolved, and we need to to overcome them. Finally, the man that poses the biggest problem. I am still undecided over Steven Gerrard. On the one hand we have an unplayable player, a man who has won game after game single handedly, a man who embodies what we have come to associate with 21st century liverpool. But on the other hand, we have an influential man, one who carries more weight in the dressing room than houlier, benitez and now kenny does, a man who has been injured for the past 2 years, has preformed poorly in almost every game bar everton and napoli. Earns more than anyone at the club, yet repays very little with on the field performances. These 3 men, despite their failings, deserve our respect, for the passion and glories they have brought in the past. However these successes do not leave them immune from criticism. They are key to why the club is stagnating. Our opponents have evolved, and we need to match them. With our current old guard still as influential, evolution is improbable. This season has been, and to put it lightly, an embarrassment. The handling over the suarez affair. 9th?! F#cking 9th? Fulham doing the double over us! 5 home wins? Its been a joke. We need to evolve. We have the tools, the ingredients, but for evolution, sometimes you need to cut out what holds you back. (Eds, everyone else, your feedback is welcome) Daniel.

If gerrard can only avoid having his performance classed as 'poor' by scoring a hatrick in a game- then here we have a fan with very high expectations of their players

The way you have posted is called constructive criticism but the way some posters are writing its is pure disrespect to any human being.To be Honest i felt Roy Hodgeson got the worst treatment i have ever witnessed as a LFC fan.

We were one of the most knowledgeable fans full stop use to love chatting football with other LFC fans but now it is just become a joke .

With regards to KK yes he makes mistakes and yes he is sometimes too slow to react in games a few points for his defence anyone can manage after a game has been played , also too ancient for the game Barcelona great football was not a product of Gaurdiola management its a bye product of a certain Johan Cryuff .

Carragher is slow but a decent back up and not once slagged off any other player he cares and is a decent player.No offence LFC main issue is poor squad lets kick him to the kurb and get a player for 16million who wont even match his ability

Gerrard ,awesome and loyal player for me 3rd best player to wear LFC shirt it is not his fault other players need to step up and take saome of the blame , they need to step up and stop looking at him to try to do what he use to,Barcelona are not Messi alone

So constructive rather then destructive is the LFC way .

Excellent post.

In general, there is a backward looking culture at LFC. It is evident in the attitudes toward talk of replacing Kenny, in prevalence of old boys that crowd the box seats and the TV studios, in the incessant replays of the good old days, in the retro replica shirts and merchandise sold online (we are the number one club in that market). We have become the club of nostalgia, of the past.

On the one hand, this history is partly what makes us special. On the other hand, it has made us mediocre, and increasingly irrelevant.

At this point, we need ruthless owners who have no attachment to our past. Or we will fall farther and farther behind.

Well said. Very respectful and it needed to be said. An argument against our "legends" that can not be disregarded. I feared for Kenny the moment he signed up. His status was never in doubt but his ability to do what needs to be done is now what is important. I was an optimist in the beginning but now Kenny needs to come out of this situation with his head held high. LFC ARE in danger of stagnating. As well as the sale of our club being important to our history, the next few months could also be crucial. And depending on what decisions are made, we shall the see the owners in intent for our beloved club.

The two players you mention are indeed past their best and need replacing although whether or not they have a negative effect on the club in general i'm not so sure,they have both been great servants to LFC and like Dalglish have earned and deserve a future at the club.I believe that dignity will dictate KD make way for a new manager,i just hope its De Boer,smart dude and well connected !! B

I feel your pain Daniel, trust me! I find the league position/points tally the most embarrassing personally! Just like you said 'f**king 9th!

However, we have played some spendid football at times this season and really should have put a few teams to the sword!

I feel like we are in a kind of limbo state. A crossroads which has 2 dividing lines. 1 being a fall from grace into decline and ruin for our great club and the other being us looking upwards taking great strides in an attempt to get back to the top of the mountain!

I have a good feeling about this summer transfer window. I am aware changes are needed and quality needs to be aquired......I believe we will achieve this. In the same breath, I still hope Kenny is our manager while these turn of events are taking place (assuming they do happen).

I agree about Gerrard. To be honest, its hard to decipher how I feel about him now. He is our Captain Stevie G, our real life Roy Of The Rivers, the local lad who came through the ranks at Melwood and became an LFC legend. However, it really looks like the injurys have started to take their toll on the man, also he is getting on a bit on age (in football terms) so we only have now a limited amount of seasons left that we could get out of him. He isn't the Gerrard of years gone by anymore, BUT......he is Steven Gerrard! Could I bare to see him sold?.....I don't know to be honest but what I have to point out is the appearance that his influence in the team can have a negative impact on those around him and as there's 9 other outfield players with him out there that sort of impact isn't exactly beneficial to the team. So as I was saying, im undecided.

Agreed! Preferably with Kenny still around I hope. Sounds like good solution to get us going in the right direction!

Poss one solution.
Or how about Txiki as DoF, Rafa as head coach/manager with Rodolfo as assistant manager/coach.

All three have an understanding, with rafa the one bringing RB over in the first place.

TB's vast experience as DOf at Barca can only be a massive help to rafa in terms if negotiating and bargain hunting allowing Rafa to do what he does best - coach.
You all have to agree that when it came to crunch matches, rafa virtually always delivered through his tactical nous.
And it gives Rodolfo time to get used to the hustle bustle of the PL which is quite different from the reserves
