1.BR has signed Borini(former swansea) and now very likly Allen (swansea).Both players he had worked with.

2.Hav lfc enquired abt Kevin Gameiro.

3.Which player do u c us signing oder than Allen.

Dempsey
Walcott
Gameiro
Tello
Sahin(i doubt)......

I personally think it will be one of Tello, Walcott, or Dempsey. I suppose we could get two of those three, but having both Dempsey and Walcott would seem overkill as I can't see either wanting to sit on the bench much.

Tello would be perfect for us and the way we are going to play. Tello, Suarez and Borini would be a fantastic front 3. All these players work hard, score goals and their movement would be hard to cope with. No matter who the defenders are .

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

True True, Tello has been itching to get a game for barca and he has more than double the talent downing has, he isnt scared to commit a defender or take them on downing is, hes past it, downing-bad signing tello would be perfect

Good performance tonight, and in the few dull moments there was a confused little bat to entertain us, good night!

So Agger plays..does that make him ineligable for any other club in Europe,or just the Europa league? In other words, would he still be able to play for Citeh in the Champions League? Apologies if its already been asked.

The Rev

It doesn't even make him ineligible for anther club in the Europa League - you can play for a different team in the qualifying rounds to the tournament proper

Red Ollie

No, As far as i know once u play for certain team in Europa league even if its a qualifier U r disqualified to play for any other team that is in Europa league. But U are always free to play for a team in CL and vice versa.

AJ

Lol I can just see one of the Ed's saying 'Use the search' in response to this!
RedKopite

I'm just glad the rules on this are so straightforward. How in the world do they manage to make something this relatively trivial so complicated?

Ed mate John w henry says he thinks selling anfield rights

I wouldn't want to go to a stadium where rights don't apply. unless you mean naming rights or shares.

Hey, if he gets us 200m from a company for naming rights, fine. But we'll still call it Anfield :)

Honestly, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. We would then have the money to expand and generate more income on top of whatever (x) company will have to cash out for naming rights. I just hope they keep Anfield somewhere in the name. Also, the owners haven't sold the naming rights for Fenway Park yet, which leads me to believe that they do have an understanding of tradition. I wouldn't be too worried.

eds what are the chances of leandro damaoi to lfc and what do you think of hi bosco {Ed002's Note - Unlikely.}

Not an ed, but I think Bosco could perhaps post something nice about FSG tonight? Maybe, 'thanks FSG for funding the purchase of Borini, the lad looks class'?

I stumbled across this site a few days ago. To the people who make it happen, thank you.
I am a bit baffled as to why anyone would think the LFC website being down means something big s about to be announced. Its nearly midnight, best time for any maintenance. Hopefully I'm wrong
O

I've been wondering this for awhile as well. If the web dev. folks had to down the entire website to add a new article, that would be pretty sad.

I'd guess maintenance as well given the time.

RDL

You'd think they'd catch on after the first ten thousand times but no its a signing this time.

Holy Sh1t that was amazing, yes against weaker opposition but the movement, passing, desire, determination to get the ball back and the all round aura the team seemed to posses.

The formation of the team isnt ridgid and it was as if the top 3 players had free role, with captain Marvel in behind pulling the strings. Please Please can all the moaners and persons that post on here, abusing the eds and in general boring the s*** out the lot of us true fans shut up now and A. Go back on to your own site and stop kidding on your a LFC fan and B.Open your eyes and see what were trying/and going to acheive.

Eds and Macca and to the genuine fans out there Im buzzing right now, hairs on the back of my neck is sticking up and I truely feel we are going be back dominating the EPL and Europe where we belong.

Im going stop rambling just think were going be ok, get in the boys and well done all round, Cheers for all the cracking info from the Eds and Macca to the site is quality ma man. HAPPY AS LARRY!!

09 Aug 2012 23:24:42
If we play like we did tonight, with the addition of (hopefully) Sahin, Tello, Allen & Dempsey we'll definitely challenge for top 4. I think we have to remember we were playing Gomel (not Barca), but regardless; what a game! Nice to see Downing play better too, I think he'll play well with Rodgers' system. Really great to see Borini get a debut goal too, did anyone else see Enrique post on Twitter that Borini would score? Ha.

Come on LFC, let's get back in UCL!!

Thanks, a very optimistic Ell.

Seriously disappointed that the Liverpool fans didn't invade the pitch tonight when our right back scored. Or does that only happen in testimonial matches where no matter what they score? Gladtonotbeblue

I agree with you mate, embarassing from the bitters last night. Moyes has quite rightly had a go at the muppets.

09 Aug 2012 23:16:41
Hey lads, lasses and the Ed's. Joe Allen has confirmed on his official twitter account that he has joined LFC on a long term contract, and that he will have his medical tomorrow :) just wanted to let you all know. Cheers, Scouserseb

He doesn't have twitter...

Its a fake twitter account mate

Ian the red

He has already started his medical, formalities to be concluded tomorrow. Billy Mc. {Ed002's Note - Started his medical - like there is a nurse grasping the love buds and asking him to cough - and he has until the morning to reply? Man, Blair would love that.}

09 Aug 2012 23:16:35
I was a bit worried when Lucas got his serious injury. I was worried he wouldn't come back the same player. But after watching his cameo appearance away to Gomel and now at Anfield. He has put my fears to bed.

What a fantastic player/person Lucas is, it's great to have him back. Lucas imo is as important to us as Luis (and Sparky of course) and Stevie.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Couldn't agree more Blair, it was as if he's never been away.

Great to see Rodger's ideas being taken on by the lads aswell. Winning the ball back so high up the pitch must create so much pressure on the opposition.

The 'Calmly looking forward to the new season' Booter

And Sparky of course? I didn't write this Ed. Unless phone is on the blink or are you bored? lol

Thanks

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96 {Ed002's Note - It'll be the phone Blair. Sparky has been pretty lonely tonight Blair as Pepe went to the game.}

09 Aug 2012 23:12:46
No rumour, just my opnion.
I think tonight showed that Agger will be staying. If he was going there is now way not a chance he would even be on the bench let alone play a full 90 minutes in case he got injured.

I really hope he stays and im more than sure he will.

09 Aug 2012 23:10:29
To everyone complaining about the owners possibly selling Agger think about it in another way.

He is moving into the last 2 years of his contract, LFC can't allow it's best players go into the last two years as a transfer window closes without agreeing contract extensions (look at what happens to Arsenal) or selling the player. Nor can the club pay a significant wage increase to a player that is injury prone.

We have got to presume Aggers agent will be seeking a big deal due to Aggers current form with an extension into his 30's and agents will claim in such a negotiation that Agger could leave if he doesn't get such and such a deal etc.

BR is just being both honest and clever, letting Agger know that LFC will sell him at a price.

I expect Agger to sign a reasonable contract extension with the club after all this (but you never know).

BR really seems to be able to get inside players heads, not all huges and cuddles, he also seems to know when to give them a shove.

Fitzy

Very good post. What I really like about BR is that he is not afraid to go against fans opinions on players. Most fans don't know nearly as much as the manager about the players (myself included). You might recall some Scottish lad selling, Ince, Hughes, Kanchelskis, Stam etc md their team didn't do too badly.

do you think Liverpool will sign Walcott ,Sinclair or Adam Johnson or none i think all are talented

How is Sinclair an improvement on any player that can play the front three in our current squad. Adam johnson or walcott are much better options than sinclair.

09 Aug 2012 23:07:26
Ever noticed that the majority of the moaners and critics don't leave a name.

09 Aug 2012 23:02:53
first of all hi everyone and eds, i thought lpool played well and borini looks dangerous and gerrard in this position is more efeective. Suarez was phenomenal, and I really think it would be daft for him to be sold. Does anyone know why Carragher was being booed everytime he touched the ball, maybe one of the eds might know? or anyone? thanks
hibsylfc

The Crowd was yelling at him to - SHOOOOOT -

SpudRed

Hibsy mate they were shouting shoooooooot as far as I could make out..

Quigz23

Think it was 'shoooot' not 'boooo'. Someone who was there can probably clarify though.

He was being booed, people were shouting shoooot, thats what i gathered it to be anyway

Sorry that should have said wasnt being booed

hi eds who do you think is the most likely to become a winger to take over downing which I think is needed {Ed002's Note - I don't see Downing leaving.}

Downing done good tonight ???

09 Aug 2012 23:00:13
Rodgers saying it how it is. Everyone has a price, if the bid is huge then Agger will go. You can't slap a 100m fee on an ageing defender, but you can certainly accept a very good offer, in this case 25m plus.

09 Aug 2012 22:59:44
Okay another rumour from AnfieldMole...
Something about signing Del Piero, would it be as coach or player because idk if he plays now? He DID state the source is UNRELIABLE so don't blame me if it's utter cr*p just passing on what I've seen to more people...
Cheers

An unreliable rumour from twiiter, as bad as it gets

Is there such a thing as a reliable Twitter rumor?

How good is it to see Lucas back !!!

How we missed him last year, TOP CLASS

Evered

09 Aug 2012 22:55:43
We played well tonight as I am sure you all know. The Borini-Suarez partnership looked good and Fabio's work rate was fantastic, a Kuyt style display chasing everything down and was overjoyed to see Luis pressing so high. Hopefully a new manager will mean a new start for the lad putting last season to bed.
Hopeful about Allen as I think he will mature into a brilliant player but I thought Downing looked wasteful again. He needs to get his act together soon. Can't see Adam fitting in either as he can't tackle to save his life and gives the ball away far too much. Would like to see Shelvey and Hendo used more than him anyway to blend them into the club.
A couple of quality additions and I think this squad is there. Top 6 for certain, top 4 at a push.
Either way tonight was a good display right when we needed one and has solidified my high hopes for BR.

09 Aug 2012 22:52:42
Team played brilliantly today, the worst player on the pitch for liverpool was shelvey probably and even he was amazing, we need a few additions but give rodgers time i think we will be amazing under him, the way he utilised every single player was amazing really respect the brand of football we played today

YNWA

Agreed, although Shelvey's 'poor' performance was, like you said, still pretty good really. A few loose touches and a bit rash on challenges, but a good prospect that kid. I do think Allen playing in that role will be far more effective though.

While shelvey did show poor touches at times, his passing is sublime. Downing still does not impress me, we need more from an established international player.

09 Aug 2012 22:50:13
Charlie adam is pure dog s*** !!
slow slow slow sooo slow

75:13 (Liverpool) makes a substitution, with Charlie Adam coming on slowly for Jonjo Shelvey.

83:21 Charlie Adam fouled. because he is so slow, by Illya Aleksiyevich, the ref awards a free kick. Direct free kick taken slowly by Charlie Adam very .

87:03 Charlie Adam is too slow to win the ball and fouls Igor Voronkov, free kick awarded. Nikolai Kashevsky takes the direct free kick.

90:00 + 2:12 Pavel Kirilchik concedes a free kick for a foul on Charlie Adam who just doesn't have the legs to get away from his man. Charlie Adam restarts play with the free kick.

I wish he'd just do one, can't we sell him to Rangers or something?

Wow,your must really have a real dislike of Charlie Adam to go into that much detail to get your point across. Seems himself and Downing are the whipping boy's at the moment. The latter geting unfair grief on here tonight after having a good game tonight,not to mention baggin the winner in the first leg.
Jonson

Can't you just say he's not good enough. the way i see it is if a player works as hard and cares as much as charlie adam they deserve a certain level of respect. people like to run their mouth about spearing in the same way and its disrespectful and thoughtless. now you say things like that about spearing and adam then in the next breath your salivating over a player like ramirez who aimlessly floated around the pitch for the better part of the olympics.

ri red

I love you never mention two worldy passes though... We all see what we want too hey? I see a girl with a great rack, whilst you see a bird with a fat arse lol... Granted he is slow and can't tackle though!

1)downing had a good game and played the best football i have seen him play in a red shirt last night, he got down the line, passed well, put a few good balls into the box, cut inside nicely with johnson on the overlap, him and GJ seem to have a good understanding down the right :D
2)spearing is cover for the holding role, a valuable squad player
3)charlie adam brings nothing to BR's style of play, hoofing the ball diagonally repeatedly is something i was hoping to see the back of. He can't tackle and lacks the pace to play the kind of high tempo football that Rogers is employing. YES Charlie Adam has heart, YES he seems like a nice bloke, YES he has passion for the game, but he is nowhere near good enough to play the kind of football that had Anfield rocking last night.

So, as not to upset the minority who believe that you have to be respectful to a player who is way below par, I would like to add:-
RESPECTFULLY:- Charlie Adam is no good:D

09 Aug 2012 22:49:31
Heard from the AnfieldMole on twitter (yes I know, but he's usually spot on and was about Allen hours before the media knew) that Walcott has been enquired about and would take a paycut to move to us, and really wants to.
Please post Eds.
Also said Man city are keen on selling Johnson, but we will only get one of them.

Walcott is a much better player than Adam Johnson.

Tough one- out of those two guess I would take Walcott?

Walcotts pace wud be a real weapon for us.

Please everyone who slated borini before he touched the ball come and slate him now? Or have you trolls gone back in your holes?

The kid looks a very, very good signing to me. If he were 25 it would have been good, but at only 21 it could turn out to be a fantastic one.

RDL

Ridiculous how many were slating a 21 year old already included in the Italian national team that cost only 10m

09 Aug 2012 22:42:36
Borini - Excellent, got himself into fantastic positions and his goal was sublime.
Suarez - No doubt about it, the guy was an absolute menace and was unlucky to get a goal.
Gerrard - His pace made him look 5 years younger tonight, it was a pleasure to watch.
Downing - Although he had his faults, he showed intent and put the effort in with some great movement to stroll past defenders.
Lucas - Some great tackles and held the midfield line exceptionally well.
Agger - Well, he's Agger, the guy has to stay. He is LFC through and through, and his commitment personifies everything LFC stands for.

I was really, really happy with tonight's performance. The work BR has done in such a short time was brilliant. Instead of just hoofing up long balls we played a great passing game and pressured the opponents every time they had the ball until they made silly mistakes, Reina might as well have got a deck chair out. Sorry for the long post guys, but I definitely think after that performance there is good things in store, it was also nice watching Allen sit up there grinning at his new team!

JP.

Agree completely! YNWA mate~

Love this post mate, come on LFC!!

09 Aug 2012 22:41:09
I have a theory - Liverpool have said to man city in order for you to have agger, bid for Sinclair of Swansea, this then allows us to bid for Sinclair without breaking the agreement in place. Agger will go to city, and we will get Sinclair.

Joe allen deal almost completed so i assume said aggrement with swansea is off?

That one belongs on the conspiracy page it is so ridiculous.

09 Aug 2012 22:39:17
Jonjo did well. why we looking for send him loan.

Because he needs more experience and we have loads of cm's

Cause with allen he wont be a starter, i think BR is trying to do to shelvey what venger did with wilshire. wilshire was behind ramsey in pecking order then got loaned to low mid table club bolton played every game barring injuries/ suspension and improved drastically. if we can loan him to swansea/west brom/ southampton all good footballing side he could improve a lot and challenge a lot more for first team place.
stewynoodle93

To get game time, I would think. I don't see him starting ahead of Allen and as decent as Shelvey was tonight what he was doing tonight wasn't his strong suit and Allen would have made the team even stronger I think.

I also see Shelvey as more of a 'Gerrard' type for the future, so if he can get a good chunk of playing time elsewhere in a similar role, that will only benefit the squad long term. At only 20 though, I think he's very impressive.

Don't remember Stevie G getting loaned out. [FR]

09 Aug 2012 22:38:13
Why oh why are we considering selling Agger to Citeh? He is the perfect platform on which to base possession football from the back and being left footed only adds to his value to this team. Did he really throw his shirt into the crowd at the end of the game, ffs please nooooooooooo! If the owners are selling to recoup on our incoming transfers then shame on them and as a football decision it will backfire because we cant replace him like for like, not to mention it only makes Citeh stronger!

Ciario

I went the match and he never did that. They all swapped shirts with the fc Gomel players

He threw his shirt to a supporter in the paddock. Are you sure you were there mate? LeighT

09 Aug 2012 22:36:17
Ok so after watching the game i was very impressed, they way we kept possession and used it wisely created many chances and pressed as high up as we can. Players all did great Reina was rarely tested but was alert, defense was solid, midfield was very good and attack was immense.

Clearly you can see how skillful Suarez is but we already knew that last season but one thing that i noticed last season was with all space and chances Suarez created there was no one who read it or instantly knew where to be to maximize it.

But as you saw from the 2 games Borini played he just is that type of player what we clearly missed last season a fox in the box someone who just instinctively knows where to be and you saw that today when Suarez created the space Borini was there and I believe we have good a great partnership in the making.

Overall only one out of the attack who wasn't as outstanding was downing although done a decent job for me he isn't a starter but a squad player so either he should be sold or kept for the squad i believe if we are going to play 433 we need a player to fill in the role which Downing played today.
Personally id want that to be Ramirez but if not him then based on who we've been linked with Dempsey as he reads the game just like Borini and works very hard like Borini so would be great to see a front 3 of Borini Suarez and Dempsey as the would press and attack brilliantly.

With Allen coming in he'd be great next to lucas with Gerrard playing more advanced as I beleive Shelvey just needs to develop a litlle bit more but this season will be a chance for him to be in the first team squad.

All in all very promising looking forward to a great season ahead and we still have a few more signings to come so who knows. Great win. Keep it up eds and fellow reds. YNWA

I must have been at a different game, because I thought Downing played well and worked hard too!

Are Agger and Skrts cup tied now? Would that effect peoples interests? {Ed049's Note - Yes}

Hang on, when this was asked about Carroll the other day one of the EDs replied with "not for the group stages no" {Ed002's Note - People may have been misled by some of the Eds on this.}

ED.. Would they be cup tied for the CL?

MR EM {Ed002's Note - We need to check, my understanding is no.}

Are you sure Edd? I thought it a only the qualifying rounds that they are cup tied for? They should be able to play in europe champs league or eufa

Dave H {Ed002's Note - I think excluded from the Europa League as Liverpool qualified.}

They can still play in the champions league and i don't see them heading to a Europa club if they leave...

No.

-- As a rule, a player may not play in a UEFA club competition (i.e. UEFA
Champions League and UEFA Europa League, but not UEFA Super Cup) for
more than one club in the course of the same season. Exceptionally, however,
a player who has been fielded in the first, second, third qualifying round or the
play-offs of the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League is entitled
to play in the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League for another club as from the group stage. --

SpudRed {Ed002's Note - There is a caveat about playing in the same competition if the first club makes it thru.}

They will not be cup tied as the match tonight was not a group game only a qualifier and not cup proper.
a little disappointed carroll didn't play some part and spearing did, no disrespect but spearing surly has no future at lfc
jaydee ynwa

Ed002 - you are correct about the Caveat but it applies to a different sub-rule:

- Further, as per Champions League regulation 17.18, one player per club who would normally be cup-tied can be registered and eligible to play, so long as his previous club did not field him in the same competition, meaning that this player can represent two different clubs in the Europa League and Champions League. However, if the first club fielded him in the Champions League, but would later play in the Europa League through finishing third in the group stage, the transferred player is ineligible to play in the Europa League -

SpudRed {Ed002's Note - I would need to look it up, but thanks.}

The others need to release how important Danny Agger is for Liverpool FC.
He loves the club he is not for sale

And isn't it SO nice to see, it restores your faith in modern footballers.

liverpool site down a signing perhaps

Or perhaps our IT staff needs to have a chat with some of our vendors. Their uptime is rather abysmal...

I have noticed that the site crashes started happening after the new lfctour.com site was created and linked to share video and article content with the Official site.

I thought Liverpool played fantastic tonight! Good all round team performance. Suarez & Gerrard outstanding, Borini looks like he's got goals in him.
After the game during the Gerrard/Borini interview it seemed Gerrard was more or less resigned to losing Agger, can't remember his exact words. Anyone sense this?

Yes definitely.. He referred to Rodgers saying that everyone has a price.. And referred to it as the owners decision. Hope he stays..

Please why do people continue to hammer downing. He did well tonight and was our best player in Belarus. He had a bad year last year but please give him a chance as I think he could have a great season next year.

Sorry. But he is taking up one of the main spots in that team that, with a truly good signing, could make this team a challenger.

I, too, think he has done well and obviously has shown some improvement under BR even in the short time training with him. However, we bring in someone like a Borini (Tello, for example) that is hungry, pacy, can score goals and play anywhere accross the front line then you'll see our front 3 interchange positions the way Borini and Suarez naturally did today. Downing is a winger at heart, not a stringer. Squad player for us at best.

SpudRed

I think I have to agree with SpudRed on this one. I find Downing to be a good player, but to me there were two on the pitch tonight who, while they played well, could have been a tad better.

One would be Shelvey, who will be rotated out of the starting 11 by Allen I think, and the other would be Downing, who could be replaced by say Tello or even Dempsey, I think, thus making the first 11 even stronger.

That said, I don't want Downing to go anywhere as think he will do well for us and my hypothetical first 11 can't play every game. Shelvey on loan as a starter somewhere wouldn't bother me though- he needs more time on the pitch to continue to develop his game.

Downing is a great player to have on the bench, I'm not just saying that he gives us a different dimension but to complete the front three and play with suarez & borini you need an attacker who can play in any of the three front positions and is mobile, like Suarez & Borini, maybe Dempsey/ Walcott. But I will reiterate my point Downing is class should be kept but not in the starting XI!

Lets break our necks and try to sign Kaka,he's still world class,would fit into any side,if chelski,man c,man u get him,thats all over for us this season i reckon,they already have masses of class,we need a true world class signing to make people sit up and take notice of us !! :)

I honestly don't know what we would do with Kaka. Would be a very expensive bench warmer and I don't see us paying above the odds for Allen to sit on the bench. Lucas and Gerrard have to be the two automatic starters, I would think, and I suppose Kaka could be the 3rd, but then why get Joe Allen? Wouldn't make much sense, really.

Wouldn't our front three be Suarez, Borini and Kaka? midfield three of Allen, Lucas and Gerrard?

We dont ned another CM..hendo and shelvey enough with allen gerrard and lucas...adam and cole can move out to bring some one like ramirez or RM to swap with downing and borini..
i do expect to sell caroll and bring a quick pacy striker to compliment..suarez-gerrard prtnership..
we need more goals fom feat..not from set pieces anymore..
and thats the way BR plays...

09 Aug 2012 22:22:45
i think we ve just had a glimpse of how we are likely to play this season
expect allen alongside lucas freeing gerrard to attack all the time,and an interchangeable front three,with gerrard supporting from an advanced midfield position, full backs getting forward covered by lucas and allen, looks defensively solid and attackingly exciting

a special mention for luis, the guy is just a genius, seriously he s worth 60-70 million, every game he produces something fantastic, best signing of the summer
borini,i knew very little about him before tonight,good movement ,i love the way he just keeps it simple,plays the easy ball and is moving into the box , plus when we havent got the ball he isclosing down defenders withthe speed ofa hare. actually everyone did a great job ofclosingdown and pressing tonight, this is what impressedme the most about the performance,

i grew up watching the great brazilteams of the 80s and the basis of their play was this hounding of the opposition combined with creative skills and fluidity of movement. i am delighted to be comparing our liverpool to these great sides. tonight was a lesson in total football

tom1975

Lucas and allen will sit in the midfiled..winning the ball back and spreading through gerrard.

09 Aug 2012 22:21:33
I seriously don't understand why peool rate shelvey? Eds please explain why peopl rate him so much? For me he can play good balls but is so slow and seems to get caught quite a lot. I don't get it so glad Allen is coming in, more versatile and certainly more pace

Neilp

You clearly do not watch many football games then

Shelvey did great tonight, and considering his age he was outstanding. What age is he 20ish? and on most occasions he was a step ahead of the opposition. Imagine this kid with some experience...

Shelvey is going to be a liverpool legend hes a far better player than Gerard was at his age fact
Jaydee ynwa

Shelvey can pass, tackle , shoot, cross, his dead balls are good to top it off. That's why we rate shelvey. And he is proper hard. Top top player
Tommy.

Shelvey is a proper talent and with a little more developing, I can honestly see him replacing Stevie G in the years to come.

SpudRed

Watch the game again and count how many times he got caught on the ball because he was too slow. Just don't see it and to compare him to gerrard is s joke. Nit being hard on shelvey but I just don't think he is good enough.

Neilp

Shelvey is a top talent but he's not ready yet so Allen is a good signing. Lucas-Allen-Gerrard would be a top midfield Hendo & Shelvey should be on the bench/playing cup games gaining more experiencevbecause they're both very talented.

Am i being naive when i think what with Agger's newest art work on his hand and the fact he's played in europe, he won't be moving? or does the cup tied thing only apply to europa league not champs?

please post and answer, my fine gentlemen {Ed002's Note - As I understand the rules he will be cup tied in Europa only.}

If Agger sold he can play both Europa and CL with other team. as qualification is not count. {Ed002's Note - It is not quite as simple as that.}

Actually, not even that. He's still able to play for any team Europa or CL -Group- stages. Qualifying is considered separate now.

SpudRed

Ed at the begining just before the game they said he would be cup tied for the group games if we get through this applies to chams league aswell so he would not be able to play until the knockout rounds

mike {Ed002's Note - In Europa completely.}

Are you sure about that Ed? I thought he was cup tied in the Champs league until after the group stages as well! Or is that after the next leg of the Europa? Cheers

The Irish Rover {Ed002's Note - My understanding is no because it is the club that is at issue. In the CL there is no chance of facing Liverpool.}

As I read those rule, Dagger is not cup tied in any realistic way for Citeh or Barca.*

* But I still really really want him to stay.
I think this might be a chance for JWH and FSG to win over some fans and take the hit on keeping an injury prone 27 year defender. I also think, in doing so, they could foster a rather large amount of togetherness in the squad. Might be worth the investment.

hi ed..what a game..
its clear..suarez gerrard and borini were absolute outstanding..
ed..if we play 4-3-3 with gerrard lucas and allen..we would still need a striker with borini and suarez.
and if we played 4-2-3-1, with lucas and allen/shelvey
with suarez gerrard and dowing up front and borini as lone striker..with full backs attacking..
where do u see the future of adam , spearing and henderson?
caroll should be sold and need to bring another player like suarez on the right..
adam and spearing should go and we need to being another attacking winger.
4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1..is an excellent formation with liverpool

whats your thought?
{Ed002's Note - I think everyone who has come to the site in recent weks and said Borini is not good enough for Liverpool should perhaps reconsider their standpoint.}

Ed002 those fans are all eating humble pie

People are way too concerned about playing time for certain players. In football today with congested schedules and and injuries you don't really have a first 11, you need a first 15 or so. If we are going to play 3 midfielders normally we need 5 guys who we feel confident as starting caliber players to get us through a season.

Are you serious Ed? How can you make a statement like that after 1 game really? Very surprising statement from a man of your knowledge. He could be good, he could be a world beater but i have seen far too many players hyped up only to not live up to it! Especially at Liverpool.

The Irish Rover {Ed002's Note - Get the flags saying "Borini Out", he beloved hate campaigns on Facebook and Twitter and see how he reacts. I am more supportve of Liverpool players than 90% of fans here - a strange indictment in my view.}

Nice one Ed. Borini will be a fantastic player for us. His movement along with Gerrard and Luis's was nice to watch. We've been crying out for a striker like him for years. IMO he could be our top scorer this season if he stays fit.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

6, two players per position at least

Nice thing is the lad looks pretty fit, Blair, but I completely agree. Think he could turn out to be a genius signing and at 21 will only get better.

The reply from the Ed, Rover mate. Was at those posters who wrote Borini off without him even kicking a ball.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

I think the point, moreover, is that Borini was slated as not being good enough for the LFC shirt before he'd kicked a ball in anger. So, yes, it was only one game and against inferior opposition and he has a LOT to still prove at the top level but he has shown tonight that the boy has got real talent. We shall wait and see if he has enough talent and if he has consistency. But, those that wrote him off as an over priced waste of money were just plain wrong.

SpudRed {Ed002's Note - "Inferior opposition" is irrelevant in my view - it was a game. He and the others got on with the task in hand. I remain astonished that Borini and Allen are getting so much abuse from fans.}

I think it comes down to perhaps, just perhaps, BR is not an person. He's seen our squad train by now, he knows Borini sort of well and certainly knows Allen very well, so if he thinks they'll make good additions who am I to disagree?

09 Aug 2012 22:16:55

Decent performance tonight and on paper we have cover throughout the team apart from a couple of positions.

So do any of the players linked with Liverpool actually play in these positions?

The most obvious being the Attacking R M position. Is there a more suitable player being looked at to replace him?

Impressive tonight. I liked the way that possession was closed down quickly when Gomel had it and everyone looked like they were up for it. Stand outs for me: Suarez, Gerrard (of course), Borini, Shelvey, Downing (first half) and Enrique. Good to see Lucas back too. Looks good if we can get Gerrard, Suarez and Borini on the pitch at the same time for the majority of the season.

Great result tonight for the lads. Suarez amazing and Borini looked impressive. Ii really liked their overall style of football and hope it goes well when the Prem starts. Maybe I am being naive about this but its just a thought - should this style of play not work against certain teams - wouldn't it be great to be able to bring Carroll off the bench and change the game - the same way he did against Chelsea in the FA Cup? I really think he could be special and give Liverpool another dimension in attack. I just feel it would be great to have him and he has so much fire in his belly!

Or we could actually let him play to see if he can fit in, rather than assuming that he can't...

09 Aug 2012 22:00:39
Good win, wasn't able to watch it. Can someone let me know how well we play and who gelled. Cheers gav

Pretty much everyone gelled. Very good performance. Suarez MOTM. Gerrard him and Borini linked up very well. Lucas back to his best. Downing played well, a long with Pepe, Agger, Skrtel, Johnson (very good going forward) Enrique. I think Shelvey had a decent game but wasn't as discipined as he should have been (he was asked to play the deep playmaker, but he went up the field quite a lot. He also recieved a yellow card for a mistimed tackle). With Allen, in the stands and pretty much a liverpool player now, this wouldn't (perhaps shouldn't) be a problem because Allen can do this very well. Not too much to say about the subs because my stream was playing up towards the end. Overall, a very good and promising display, albeit against a weaker team (no disrespect to Gomel becuase they played reasonably well). I think a lot of BR's doubters have been silenced (at least temporarily) and hopefully no more trolls for a while.

If you missed the game go onto footytube tomorrow and is will show you all the highlights.

Suarez and Gerrard seemed to gel quite well and I don't think it will be long before Borini understands them too...

Hey eds few questions, are we looking at wingers? Who are they? Also, do you agree this is the position we need most?

Personally, I don't rate Dempsey and liken him to Colein the fact he's versatile but not starting 11, would much rather Ramirez but wouldn't mind Johnson or Krasic on the cheap.

Stevie D {Ed002's Note - Most needed in my view is a forward.}

Thanks for the reply ed, note my mistake, Krasic is now a fenerbache player.

Ed 002, anyone in mind {Ed002's Note - I don't know if Dempsey is out of limbo - Llorente may not be out of the question. Or Owen of course (only kidding).}

09 Aug 2012 21:58:52
Getting Allen will be great, Shelvey is a nice player but he naturally wants to get forward and attack rather than sit back and dictate play. Shelvey should be cover for Gerrard. A midfield trio of Lucas-Allen-Gerrard should be excellent as they all do different things and do different things well. Should fit nicely together.

Up front we need another versatile attacker to play with Suarez and Borini. Whats great about Borini and Suarez is that they both are so versatile, they can swap positions during games, turn up wherever. Difficult for the defense to deal with. They can both play wide, play up top, play behind a striker, come deep to get the ball. Downings problem is that he is flat out a winger. The defender knows where he is going to be, out wide. Easy to plan for in preperation and deal with during a game. If we can get that third attacker who can play all over the place and be dangerous while doing it, we could improve alot.

In all seriousness.....has Charlie Adam ever properly defended somebody without hacking at there legs or running them over...SMH!

RyanWhittington&hisCat

Is that you Gaz Bale? stop whining.

DanS

No he hasn't. He cannot defend for toffee.

- Something Red -

It's because he is quite slow and if he doesn't take the ball he takes the man, that way he can jog back into position, can't remember ever seeing him sprint.
McB

He is not a defensive midfielder...that's part of the reason where we went wrong last season...he cannot play in Lucas' position

I'm not moaning.....I'm stating facts....Obviously you haven't seen the lad play defense.

RyanWhittington&hisCat

09 Aug 2012 21:48:29
Eds who would you compare Borini to? I personally see him like Torres and believe he could be just as good if not better than him. What do the rest of you think aswell
JK

I think he's similar. But not as good as Torres at his peek, and unlikely to get that good either. He is probably a lot better than him on current form though.

MIKEY

I like Borini and think he is a very good player, but better than Torres? I think thats a stretch. The lad is still young and has a lot of potential, but I would have to say he isn't of Torres' quality.

RyanWhittington&hisCat

He works hard, makes some intelligent runs, and provides another dimension to the attack as he's always there to receive the ball and/or to create some space and attract defenders away. noticed that a lot gave the likes of suarez & gerrard a lot more to room to play

M YNWA

A better version of kuyt? used as a striker and out wide, runs all games chasing it down, but can net a few more imo!

I was about to say he is quite similar to kuyt too. but faster, and good 1 touch passing.

Iagree with kaizer

Today's game:

Suarez unplayable, Gerrard too.

Borini had nice goal. Good work rate.

Enrique looking strong again.

Downing still useless for the most part.

Hendo and Carroll didnt play even while we dominate and game winding down. With Allen yet to come, has to be bad sign for Hendo.

Great game at times we did look like Barca! Albeit, against Gomel.

Coop

Bit harsh on Downing. I would say the front three have all played very well, including Downing.

JRG

Downing played well!

Have to point out that I don't dislike Downing, but he really didn't make good forward passes today, and looked frustrated on many occasions. I am sure someone will say he was great today because he started well, but I really don't see him as a starting winger on LFC. Lets hope the Sahin rumour is real. I would also prefer Walcott to Downing, or even Sterling despite his age/

Coop

Coop

Downing useless for most part ? It's pre season, and he had a good run out.....Oh, we didn't look like Barca at all...Calm down, it was a good performance and a step in the right direction

Good performance lads, well done

ReDDaZ

Agreed with most of that apart from downing . He hardly did anything wrong, kept the ball moving and played well with Johnson. Plus he started taking players on finally. More like bad sign for adam if im hounest. Henderson is staying and will improve at liverpool, not to sure about adam

Downing did well. Adam was kinda too slow though for me.

Kaizer

Downing surprised me, he did get a few bollocking's from BR for not pressing but seemed to take it on board and his work rate stepped up. Adam was poor, slow and look like hes put on some weight!

Apart from a couple of tackles i thought shelvy had a good game

09 Aug 2012 21:30:58
Can i just say how great it is to see Lucas back and how much better our holding midfield looks with him back on the park. Welcome back son, we've missed you.

Must admit, I have been a critic so far and have questioned the appointment of BR and the names we have been linked with during this transfer period, but I have to say (bearing in mind the average opponents tonight) I am very impressed with the team play and all the players and I am more hopeful for the future. I really hope they keep it going.

09 Aug 2012 21:27:57
Are we really going to spend 15m on Joe Allen? He's a allright player, But absolutely worth nowhere near 15m. Why do we always over pay for average players? Adam 7m Henderson 20m Coates 7m Downing 18 Carroll 35m Borini 11m.

It seems like we just pay double the price that the player is worth, Madness. Kenny should of never been trusted with that transfer money last season, He hadnt got a clue. runied over transfer kitty for this season and now people just charge us double for players because they know we will pay silly money

Coates will easily be worth that 7m and henderson is a great young prospect along with carroll

Get over it. why do people crack on about the money side of things so much? does my head in.

redlad

I think the ~£11M for Borini is looking to be quite a bargain. Granted it's only been 2 games, but his movement is amazing, his workrate second to none (he was all the way back in LB for a bit even), good touches, etc. And- he's very, very young at 21. If he keeps it up, he could be something else...

totally new look team with only one new addition ?? don't figure, well done Brendon.

RedMurf

His tackling can be a little suspect other than that he will be a good player for LFC.

Shelvey's poor tackling is a result of his poor control.

Sorry but he is not good enough if we aspire to win the Premiership and compete in the Champions League.

i know its only a qualifying match in the europa league against a weaker team (no disrespect) but liverpool looked a very superior team in that first half. Downing seems to have a lot more confidence, borini seems to be in the right place when it matters (so its not only suarez and gerrard who can put it in the net) and finally whoever said we should sell suarez should take notes. He is our best player, hes the man whilst gerrard is the captain.

09 Aug 2012 21:05:09
Not a rumour, but after Leandro Damiou's performances at the olympics, could you see Liverpool being interested, great talent and not ridiculously overpriced i wouldn't have thought! cheers CS

Arguably the best 45 minutes of football played at anfield in the last 18 months, passing, movement, goals, no woodwork invovled ! everyone looks sure of their job, downing is brilliant ON THE RIGHT wing, there always seem to be a ball on, so many times last season a player was stuck on the ball thinking nobody wants this off me, very early days yet but very good signs indeed, BORINI GET IN LAD !!

Until Gerrard hit the post.

So far good game, and team looking better, Borini hard worker and good combination with Suarez and Gomel doesn't know who is striker for Liverpool as they keep switching...Only player who seems to be taking more time to pass on Johnson and Shelvey is not on par with others which means Allen if signed will fill in missing jigsaw.. well done so far...

Harry Oldbury

Johnson has looked good and shelvey has done his job nicely, remember a certain joe allen will be playing next to lucas next season

happy days

RedMurf

Johnson is solid mate you've been watching a different match. Shelvey looks shakey but this hes only recently started gaining more playing time so he will take time. Although that wont be a long time im sure

09 Aug 2012 20:52:08
All I can say is WOW. Essentially we are still in pre-season. Crisp passing, excellent movement off the ball, defending in numbers. Cant wait to see the boys playing a few months into the season.

Trishan

Not a difficult opponent though. This Gomel team would struggle in the Championship. Can't draw much from this game.

^ How can you disagree with that statement above? Gomel FC are nowhere neart the EPL level, doubt we will get away with this kind of passing about Stoke and teams who want to hatchet and most worringly, everything needs to go through Gerrard, Lucas and Suarez. If one (or more) of them get injured, i see no creativity. Allen is overated, £15 million pounds for him when Arsenal bought Cazorla for £17.5 million? More very bad transfer business in terms of prices in my opinion.

^moaners will always find something to moan about.

JRG

Just enjoy the win. We beat the team in front of us tonight. Not just beat but totally dominated the game.

Trishan

So the moaner failed to spot how well Borini linked up and pressed the opposition for the ball, or the fullbacks causing havoc, or Aggers passing, Shelveys discipline in staying back (not his tackling) or the fact that it is still pre-season and the team can only get better. Oh well I suppose we can't please them all !

Reina, Agger, Lucas and Suarez start tonight. Good to see them all in.

Shelvey preferred to Hendo.

- Something Red -

09 Aug 2012 19:36:22
With agger starting is he tied now for this cup? {Ed002's Note - It depends on the result tonight and where he moves to.}

Playing in the Europa Qualifying Rounds only cup-ties a player for the Europa Qualifying Rounds.

He's not cup tied for the Champions League, or the Europa League Group and Knockout Stages.

- Something Red -

09 Aug 2012 19:34:05
Agger in starting lineup so that makes him cup tied, so no sale to City or Barca {Ed002's Note - You keep thinking that.}

09 Aug 2012 19:33:29
a web site is reporting romelo lukaku (chelsea) is finallising a loan move to a top premier league rival.... Ps allen 15m bad buisness...kaka availible we could get him for20m yes lots of money and high wages but shirt sales and publicity.. Would make lots of money. Real madrid paid 80m for ronaldo and got most if not all back in shirt sales

Stv patemondo {Ed002's Note - Shirt sales get the club near zip. Real Madrid did not get the money back and they are one of two clubs that have a partnership deal over shirts. Warrior and others make money from shirts - not Liverpool.}

Ed002 I personally am sick to death of seeing you have to explain this same point over and over and over and over....

Good team playing for tonight. Pleased to see Agger, Suarez and Lucas start.

I think it's clear I see we lack attacking options on the bench though. We don't really have any game changers, who can come on and make that impact.

The subs for big games are likely to be

Gk
Kelly
Coates
Cole
Downing
Carroll (if he stays).
Shelvey / Henderson (with Allen starting)

Sterling is potentially one that can change that, as is hopefully Suso in a year or so's time.

Bellamy leaving highlights this issue, so I'm hoping he's replaced suitably, by someone like Tello although he may go into the starting eleven.

Adam and Spearing can leave for me, as can Cole who I hope Sterling replaces.

Dempsey will hopefully join and it'll be between him and Tello for that role of the right.

That will leave Allen, Lucas, Gerrard, Henderson, Shelvey and Suso.

Suarez, Downing, Borini, Carroll, Dempsey, Tello and Sterling.

Do people see that as enough to challenge for top four?

Personally I see goals in all of the front players except maybe Downing and Tello who may take some time to adapt. Gerrard will also provide, but I can't see many more from midfield.

Anyway, looking forward to the game.

Ok, i have been in Portugal for the last 4 weeks, so i havent posted anything, but i have looked in now and again.

Just looking thru today's posts and Redphil makes a statement at the end of his post saying that Joe Allen is a steal for £15 million. So my question is, why are none of the other big clubs kicking down Swansea's door trying to get this steal of a player? Man Utd need a few players replaced in midfield (Scholes, Anderson, Giggs etc) so do Chelsea, Spurs maybe getting rid of Modric etc. Now im not saying he wont walk into the Liverpool team, but then again with Adam and Spearing standing in his way, is it really that hard? For such a young player, surely interest should be higher? Cheers folks.

The Irish Rover

Firstly I would say we're buying Allen as much for his potential as well as what he can deliver now. If he continues to progress in a better team then he may become a fantastic footballer.

Secondly, I think it's a bit unfair to ask why United, City and Chelsea aren't looking at him. These teams are playing Champions League football and can therefore shop for the finished article rather than someone who has shown potential. The only team you mentioned in a similar position to ourselves is Tottenham and they have shown interest in him.

And lastly does Allen fit in with the style of play of those teams? It seems Allen's game is about keeping the ball moving which I don't think would fit Chelsea who ate very direct or United. At City he would have Toure playing every game before him.

JRG

Why? - United have signed a midfield player for £8m plus add ons, who has never played higher than the 3rd tier of English football - with that in mind maybe £15m for an established PL player with International experience isn't such a bad deal.

John B

Spurs are very interested in him to be fair.

And as for judging a player on the interest of other clubs. Well when Rooney went to Utd only them and Newcastle seemed interested, did't mean we all knew he was class.

When you consider transfer fee's for some 22 yr olds with no expeariance, Joe Allen represents a bargain. 15m, over the next 10 yrs is nowt.

1 last thing Ryan Babel 11m, Aqualani, 20m, enough said.

ed is it true chelsea are preparing another bid for schurrle of leverkusen ? they have abundance of attacking talent already but are now going for schurrle after they failed to bring in hulk..
now with hyypia in charge there and a host of our attacking wide players leaving this summer ,do u see liverpool getting schurrle ?
he would be getting much more gametime here as well.. {Ed002's Note - Chelsea lost Anelka, Drogba and Kalou and did not really replace them.}

They got oscar, hazard, marin, piazon plus de bruyne,lukaku coming back from loan.. {Ed002's Note - Lukaku was there all of last season - the others are not strikers.}

Eds, have you heard anything regarding the agent of Kevin Gameiro stating we have shown an interest in the PSG striker? thanks {Ed002's Note - Lille and Malaga showed interest but he looks very likely to join Valencia. Liverpool have approached his agent - according to his agent.}

The Reds team in full is: Reina, Johnson, Enrique, Skrtel, Agger, Gerrard, Shelvey, Lucas, Borini, Suarez, Downing. Subs: Jones, Kelly, Carroll, Spearing, Henderson, Carragher, Adam. Looks like a smashing line up, go on d reds ,simonpw

Hopefully allen and borini wont be our only signings we still need a left back to challenge enrique who after a great start his performances were poor and he was at fault for a fair few goals. 2 wingers with kuyt maxi and by the looks of things bellamy leaving we will be left short and a striker i know we singed borini but i was hoping for a proven out and out striker who would form a great partnership with suarez. i would like peoples opinions or thoughts.

Thanks

Hi just quick one I really feel that our club is going in wrong direction as we seem to have no money , and other clubs are signing players and we are looking at paying over the odds again ie joe Allen . I personally believe we have no chance of getting top four and will slip further away from top four, fsg should sell us to someone who want to make us champs again . This post is real genuine concern for the club I have loved since I was young lad .

So what you're saying is don't want to make any money on their investment, all they want is to make liverpool worse get us out of contention for any trophies, and then sell us for probably a big loss... LOGIC.

Nothing genuine about that post at all, Chelsea have bought pretty good, United haven't, Spurs haven't, Newcastle haven't. Arsenal have bought but who knows if what they have improved their side, taking into account RVP may still leave - to date we have bought Borini, who has just scored a pretty good goal, with more to come.

Hey guys,

I'm an Arsenal fan and a big believer in the system of the old big four with LFC in them, so I come in peace.

According to me if Kuyt and Bellamy were to leave Liverpool are clearly lacking wingers (with only Downing, Sterling and Henderson(according to me a more CM)
Is there any confirmed interest in any winger or might there be a CM or a striker (Borini, Suarez, Pacheco) moving to the wing?
I think that Adam Johnson will sign as part of the CB deal, don't know who. Together with a youngster who will be a suprise (Sinclair, Mirallas, Tello,...)

I don't think Walcott will come AFC seem set to lose both RVP and Song in +- 20mil deals, unless LFC are ready to pay more AW won't let him leave.

Sorry for the long post and I genuinly hope you'll be joining us in the CL some time soon.
Cheers,
Belgian Gooner 85

09 Aug 2012 18:25:08
Personally i think that what BR has been saying about agger is positive although others wouldnt agree.
He clearly sounds like he wants to keep him, the biggest clue being his price tag. Teams would be insane to spend that kind of money on someone with am injury record like aggers.
I feel he will still be a red come september 1st and i will be very happy if im right.

any ideas on joe allen should he sign?

09 Aug 2012 17:50:11
With regards to Agger I really don't think we will sell him due to what we want for him really, money bags or not city aren't stupid and there's no way that he is worth 20 million, 10 at best. It's a good ploy though because lets be honest he won't be that hard to replace as we've had to make do without him for half the time we've had him (due to his injuries) and if they are so stupid to give us 20 million then lets bite there hands off. 20 million would get us two more players.

Nonsense, Agger is twice the player that Lescott is and he cost Citeh close to £25 million. I agree that he has had injury problems but it is silly to suggest he will be easy to replace. Agger is a top defender who can actually play football. A rare breed these days. Agger stays!

Hey eds,

Red over here in San Antonio, TX.

I had a question regarding potential transfers. I scoured the banter page and couldn't seem to find anything.

I remember a while ago we were talking about being in the market for a left-back. Are we still looking for coverage in this position? With the departure of Aurelio you would think we would have to be.

Will Danny Wilson perhaps be given a chance to cover in this position?

Thanks for your reply guys.

The inclusion of the 31-year-old means he is likely to face with Liverpool forward Luis Suarez, who has again courted controversy during the close season by reopening last season's race row between the pair.

This is sly sports talking about evra.
How are people meant to move on when there is so many s*** bags stirring things up. Yes it happened get over it!

09 Aug 2012 16:34:51
Not really a rumour as such but although I don't want Agger to leave 23 mil plus A.Johnson is a fair deal personally I know Carroll doesn't want a move to West Ham but if we could push that through I'd take 15 million plus James Tomkins he looks a good talent also a threat from corners.

No ofense mate but after watching Tomkins play recently I realised just how poor a player he is. Terrible for me. Just my opinion.

09 Aug 2012 16:33:37
i am reading that us getting higuan has no chance,i do not agree.
if carroll would leave that money + a few mil more we could get higuan.
if real madrid buy another striker he proberly leave.
the clubs that have the money to buy all have plenty of strikers,higuan found himself on the bench last season.
he wont leave real for city ect ect he will be in the same situation.
we got borini and proberly allen.
if we could get higuan and a winger( maybe johnson walcot)we would be back in the top 4.

reina
johnson
skrtl
agger
enrique
lucas
allen
gerrard
johnson-walcot?
higuan
suarez

thats a starting team and higuan is a top top finisherand only 24 years old.

bench
kelly,carra,quates,adam,spearing,henderson,shelvey,downing,borini,morgan and some young ones.
if we could replace adam and spearing in this window would be great but if not next season.
10mil borini
15mil allen
15mil johnson-walcott
25mil higuan
total 65mil

sell caroll adam cole 25mil
sold aqua kuyt for 3mil
28mil
net 37mil.
not getting into the top 4 next year will cost more.
and wages are not a issue carroll cole aqua and kuyt all had high wages.
maybe i am dreaming but i believe when suarez signed he knows that we will be bringing some top quality in at the end of the window.

Keep dreaming mate. You might be able to persuade him to come on your 360 mate,but back on planet Earth it ain't happening pal.
Jonson

I think Higuain would be a lot more than £25M. In my opinion probably more like £35M and on pretty big wages too.

Would love for it to happen, but seems very, very unlikely. {Ed002's Note - His "price" in January was 48M euros.}

Higuain played 54 games for real last year, 35 of them in the league. Pretty much the same as Benzema. Higuain only quibble was not starting enough of the 'major' games where Benzema got the nod. But then Benzema had a better goal to game ratio.

Higuain 54 26 10 (35 games in league and 22 goals)
Benzema 52 32 15 (34 games in league and 21 goals)

Besides, Maureen said that Benzema and Higuain would be his 2 strikers for the coming season.

As much as I would love to have Higuain come play for LFC, I just can't see a) Real selling him b) him wanting to leave Real for another team.

SpudRed

I've said it before, why would Real want to sell Higuain?

Hello Eds,
So it looks like Allen should happen this week. Do you reckon Dempsey could be next ? what are Fulham wanting for him (reckon Adam + 3-4 mil would do) ?
If we are able to Add Sahin (loan) and one of Walcott/ Johnson/ Tello to the list, I think it would be a good summer. What do you reckon fellow kopites ?

09 Aug 2012 16:08:09
Hello Eds and fellow reds
To me, a competetive squad must have two quality players for each position and a third youth player on the brink of first team action.
Therefore, currently we have..
GK: Reina, Jones, Gulacsi
RB: Johnson, Kelly, Flanaghan
RCB: Skrtel, Coates, Sama
LCB: Agger, Wilson, Carra?
LB: Enrique, ? , Robinson
DM: Lucas, Spearing, Coady
CM: Gerrard, Henderson, Suso
CM: Allen, Shelvey, ?
RF: Suarez, Downing, Ibe
CF: Borini, Carroll, Ecclestone
LF: Pacheco, Cole, Sterling

A new left back who can break forward, pass and move is neccesary.
I still think we need to strengthen in the RF and LF position and get rid of Joe Cole.

RedSox69

I reckon Luis Suarez will only be used as false 9 under Brendan Rogers .

EdWood

GK: Reina, Jones, Gulacsi
RB: Johnson, Kelly, Flanaghan
RCB: Skrtel, Coates, Sama
LCB: Agger, Amorebieta*, Carra?
LB: Enrique, Vargas* , Robinson
CDM: Lucas, Allen, Spearing
CM: Allen, Henderson, Suso
CAM: Gerrard, Sahin*, Shelvey
RF: Suarez, Downing, Sterling, Ibe
CF: Borini, Carroll, Morgan
LF: Tello*, Downing, Pacheco, Sterling

In addition to Allen, I would really like see Amorebieta come in to back up Dagger as LCB, Vargas to push Enrique, Sahin as the back up/rotation CAM, and finally Tello as the LF.

So
INS: Borini, Allen, Amorebieta, Vargas, Sahin, and Tello (and maybe the major star on loan)
OUTS: Kuyt, Maxi, Aurelio, Aquilani, Adam, Cole

But then we all have our dreams...

Hi eds my first time posting so i hope you can answer some of my questions, i believe the current Liverpool team have problems IN the areas of LB, LW,RW,CM and i think they would like to sign another striker on Loan with the CM Covered by the incoming Joe Allen , who else could fit the other positions (e.g a 90% chance of the player heading to Anfield) thanks. {Ed052's Note - No player is 90% close to signing, but I will give you the options for the positions you highlight, ok mate - and welcome, I hope you love the site.

LB - promote Robinson/Buy Vargas
LW - promote Sterling/Buy Affelay, Sincalir, Ramirez, vargas (In possibility order)
RW - Buy Affelay, Mirallas, Ramirez
Cm - Allen obviously

JOE ALLEN has told Swansea bosses he wants to join Liverpool FC, paving the way for a £15m transfer.

The Welsh international told Swans chairman Huw Jenkins and manager Michael Laudrup of his desire to link up with LFC boss Brendan Rodgers at a face-to-face meeting at the club's training ground on Thursday morning.

Swansea are now resigned to losing the 22-year-old before the start of the new Premier League season next weekend.

09 Aug 2012 15:51:40
If Agger goes, then why do we not do one of 2 things.

1)buy a decent RB to challenge with Johnson, and have our 4 CB as : Skyrtl - Coates - Carragher - Kelly.

Kelly and Coates are the future LFC CB anyway, Skyrtyl could help them develop. You only become any good by playing.

2)Buy no replacement and still have the 4 CB as above but give Flanno his head as Johnson Back up.

Personally I would prefer option1 as it was only when Johnson had the competition of another good FB (Kelly) did he start performing.

Also, and I say this with caution because I was slated last time, bring Coady into the squad to provide cover in EL and LC games. Yes, I know, before anyone bangs on, he not a CB he's a defensive midfielder, but also remember where Carragher started, and he's been a pretty good CB for the last decade.

redphil

Coady Captained England under 17s to win the Euros 2 yrs ago playing Centre back.

So has kelly left, or is there another reason why he cannot challenge johnson for the RB position ?
derryred

My friend , I respect your opinion , and agree with you on Coady , but would you really hope to achieve top four if our centre back choices are Skrtel , Coates , Kelly and Carragher ?

Johnson can't be touched. He has it in his contract that if he is healthy he plays and only as RB. Source Ed001 I am not sure how he got that cluase but he does. I like Johnson but I do think that it would be a good time for him to move on. If he does not I will be okay with it but his value will only go down from here and we will end up giving him away or paying him off like some others this summer. Gregory van der Wiel is my choice but I do not. Know if liverpool are looking at him.

Coley {Ed001's Note - to be fair to the lad, he was willing to play left back, when asked, but he will always be in the team when fit. The club did give out ridiculous contracts under Rafa, paying players far too much to tempt them to join us. We should never do that, those kind of players are just not hungry enough to help the team out.}

Johnson has a stupid clause in his contract that he cannot be left out of the team unless he is injured or gives permission to be left out that's one of the reasons there was talk of him being sold

Red man

I no it's petty but our supporters spelling of our players surnames is terrible especially skrtel. Sorry it's petty and pointless just annoying

The thing with Johnson is that if he is fit he has to play. Its in his contract. So buying another right back to challenge for his position seems silly as even if he was challenged or bettered by this rightback Johnson would still have to be first choice. And what makes it even more unlikely is that there is competition for this spot with Kelly and Flanagan both improving day by day.

Thanks

To be fair Johnson is a good.player, he is more suited to wing back than full back to be honest. He can be very dangerous going forward and in recent seasons got back to defend more but with his speed and being out of position he does make mistakes. He has gave away many pointless fouls as well as leaving opposition left wingers too much space creating oppurtunities and goals. Glen does have some very strong attributes to his name also, he is comfortable in possession, has a good range of passing and isn't afraid to shoot. Johnson is England's first choice number 2 ahead of Micah Richards, Kyle Walker and our very own Martin Kelly. Glen Johnson will adapt to Brendan Rodgers' style of play with ease and his class will prevail. I would personally have Kelly deputise this season and move him to CB next season allowing Flanagan to cover Johnson.
Scouse_Pride

Its all about opinion but Coates and Kelly could fill in IMO. You can never become a star from the bench. To prove yourself you need to be on the pitch.

Reason I say about Coady is last time I suggested he could end up a centre back I got slated. However he reminds me of a young Carra.

Kelly is better than Johnson already at FB, if he has that in his contract he should be sold. No matter his quality we don't need that, we need competition and if he is not willing to change that I would get rid off.

Great site and so difficult to keep on top of all the interest so well done. I really believe BR is the man for the job so I am happy to trust his judgement on signings. What, I am amazed at is the un-professional way certain things have been handled. Dempsey being touted as signed by Fenway, embarrassing? The Carroll situation? Now the Agger situation and finally the Suarez contract fiasco on LFCTv? Come on Liverpool, sort your selves out, please!
Cant wait for the new season and watching tonight's game. YNWA Welsh Red and Proud!

What happened with the suarez contract fiasco ? i admit that the dempsey situation was a mistake but BR and FSG cannot control what rumours the press print i'm afraid.

hi ed's

was wondering if you know any site with tonights game against gomel?

cheers {Ed052's Note - many people have mentioned it before. just look through the posts please mate - maybe ESPN?}

Www.firstrowsports.eu free its on the internet and you can watch every single game in the world SERIOUS!!!!

Try Wiziwig for tonight;s game and every game

Just go to the pub and watch it on ESPN, not as cheap as FREE, but I bet the signal quality is better than streaming from the web.

Www.sportslemon.tv

Lots of choice between different links and most of them are pretty sharp.

Thanks

Wiziwig, then pick the Bloodzeed' (if it's up) link & play via a sopcast player. HD quality.

Quaresma to be honest if we couldnt get him for less then 10 mill he'd be a decent player, technically he's quality but his work rate is very very poor but maybe rodgers could change that what to you think eds?

How would Rodgers change his workrate at this late stage of his career ?

Does Rogers have a magic wand

ITs very difficult to change personal characteristics in players

Joe Allens Career stats :

155 apps

Goals : 8

Own Goals : 1

Assists : 12

Yellow Cards : 14

Red Cards : 1

Market Value : £ 3.50 Million

Just thought i would share some information about Joe Allen p.s. the market value is not my opinion it is what it actually is. But i would say that it will increase in the near future.

Antrim Red {Ed052's Note - How can you knwo what his market value is? Value is what something is worth to you - and to Liverpool, he's worth £15 million}

Im sorry i dont mean to offend anyone. I personally think allen is a brilliant player but it is just what my sources say as i said it is not my opinion. He may well be worth more to liverpool because he can play under rodgers system but that does not change his true markey value.

Antrim Red

Joe allen is a fantastic prospect, I mean Fantastic.

You can't put a price on a player because its all subjective.

But take Agger, we could replace him with another player for 15million, So if City offered us 15m we would say no, because there is no point in us doing that. But if they offer 25m we do it, because we make 10m.

If a team wants a player they have to pay over what he is valued as the other club want to benefit from a sale. What would the point in Swansea selling him and having no benefit from it for themselves.

persons on this site.

BTW - 15 million is a steal for this guy.

redphil

Economics 101- value (ie price) is based on supply and demand...as supply is static in this case, the demand for the player will be based on the availability of similar substitutes and their respective price.
I trust BRs valuation of the player, and having coached him previously, surely would have a pretty good idea of what he is worth??
Paul mc
Paul mc

Football manager shows that! It also shows that he is fairly good player! Think we should avoid at all costs then!! Oh right yeah this is real life not a computer game!

That's unfair to do his whole career stats. 99% of players look rubbish in the first team when they are join and breaking through. When they come on for the last few minutes of the match, it is hard to get stuck in. Also this balloons their number of appearances, meaning their statistics seem worse than they are.

Hey Ed's i think, not 100% sure.. I thinjk he's using a site called transfermark.

Allen's "market value" on the site is 3.5million. I don't know anything about the site but i have come across it time to time.

Etch

Im sorry if you think this is unfair but i just wanted to show you his career stats p.s. i really like allen. I think he is worth more than that personally i thought his market value would be more than that i.e. around £ 10 million. But that is what it seems to be. Although it will probably go up after he signs for us.

Antrim Red

Look at stick lucas took. now if we said we selling for 5m people would say we were mad.give allen time and he be a good player for Liverpool

hello

can someone please tell me if we have adam henderson lucas and gerrard and shelvey and spearing

how can we fit allen in?

schoolboy red {Ed052's Note - As both Spearing and Adam could be going, and with Europe we need cover. It seems as if Coady has fallen out of reckoning, unfortunately.}

Because Spearo, hendo and adam are average at best, Allen will get picked ahead of them . simple as.

Adam and Spearing will be with other clubs by August 31st , Shelvey may well be on loan .

Gerrard is 33 next birthday , sadly it is 2012 not 2006 and not many people expect him to play like that ever again .

What a servant he has been , absolute first class !

Has coady went off the radar then? Rodgers mustn't rate him.

We also have a lad called Shelvy who isn't to bad

CrAsH

Coady is overrated and supposedly a bad attitude

Please confirm liverpool aren't going to bring back michael owen. I just read apparently a few premier league teams want him. Stoke being one. It happened with fowler, so is it likely to happen with owen? {Ed052's Note - No, dont worry}

People still liked Fowler.

Fowler should never have been sold.Although he was'nt same player after injury he was liverpool

Hi everybody, I just thought I'd say I'm getting quite annoyed with most people saying Allen isn't good and a waste of money.... I agree he may be a bit pricey but he is a quality player arguably one of the best players for GB, he fits King Brenny style of play and he reminds me of a smaller Alonso! He can tackle and pick a very good pass, he is easily better than all the players we bought last season!
Thanks all

Totally agree. I guess Allen will partner Lucas and sit in front of the back four with Gerrard sitting further forward in the hole with Downing/Suarez/Borini fighting for the wide positions. I think we will bring in a winger and another forward to compete for places too. Lucas and Allen will compliment each other so well. Allen looks a fantastic prospect and a wonderful passer of the ball. Lucas pre- season has looked so clam and composed and he's not even fit yet. I am relishing the start of the season. I wonder how long it will take the team to gel? Once they do, I can see Liverpool being a formidable force once again.

And if called Alleninho no one would have a problem

redphil

Allen & Lucas it's the future both good players with similar attributes plus henderson will have matured would also like us to go for James mc carthy if possible to add a bit of steel and drive when the master eventually has to finish

The old red nets are back up at Anfield as seen on a pic today.

Bring's back some good memories of Fowler scoring for fun in the 90's & playing some decent football for me, it's a bit sentimental I know but this move has pleased me.

09 Aug 2012 15:25:29
After the Joe Allen deal has been concluded BR needs to sell in order to buy. Hence the fact he is willing to sell Carroll and Agger. This is the reason we have not spent any major amount of money yet.
Liverpool have put a price tag of £30m on Agger, and if Man City go for it we will have got a good price for him! if not, we are more than happy to keep him.
If we get £30m for him we will go for Walcott and Ramirez!

Red Lee

Rubbish. Why miss out on a potential signing because you're waiting on cash from a player sale. FSG may not be 'Man City' rich but can put their hands in their pockets if need be, & if the right player becomes available they will. This sell to buy policy is surely a myth at LFC. Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong?

Allen 15 mill sounds a little steep until you take into acount the FFP rules. He is 22 British and will have a resell value. Bellamy looks set to leave Gerrard and Carra arent going to be around much longer, who knows how long Johnson Cole and Downig have left. We are going to need to more British players in the near future.
Andrew

AFAIK. Borini is classed as homegrown, also both Kelly and Hendo are both now 21 and will count towards the homegrown quota this year.

Can any of the eds explain why people keep saying it's easier for us to sign sahin because rodgers and mourinho are friends.

i really don't see how their friendship can hep us sign their players {Ed052's Note - I don't think it can help that much TBH.]

I believe the school of thought would be that if Maureen wanted Sahin to get experience somewhere he would want it to at a team where he knew the coaching was up to his standards as well as the team being big enough to give Sahin experience with pressure and expectancy of performance.

And no, I don't think it will play any part or benefit in us getting him

I suppose Mourinho would trust him more to develop Sahin as a player, considering he appointed him as Chelsea youth team coach

With Moura now signed for P.S.G. both AC Milan (who had Moura as there top summer target) AND Manchester United (also in the running for the lads signature) have turned there full attention to the signing of Ramirez.
Looking like a 3 way battle for his signature now....let's hope we have made enough of the front running for the guy and he puts pen to paper asap.

Really think we are going for Amorebieta if Skrtel leaves, isnt he left footed? Sure, he would be the ideal replacement for Agger, but for Skrtel, not so sure. Would like to see a right footed defender that could take the ball forward.

Just my thoughts,
Rob

You mean someone like Martin Kelly?

Red Raw

I can see us getting Amorebieta anyway. We need a left footed ball playing CB as cover for the injury prone Agger even if he stays. And we have a right footed CB that is comfortable on the ball in Coates.

I think we should not pay 1M for Dri vries of Wolves.
500K is a good value fora GK who was not even a regular starter for Wolves... perhaps a great idea to get rid of USELESS Jay Spearing by offering him to Wolves for this GK.

I hate the way the little fella proudly standing among the rest of players thinking he has the same authority as that of Stevie G or Jamie Carragher.

Somebody need to tell this little chap to stay away from LFC..his level is league one at best..

One thing I am looking forward or desperate to see is this Jay Spearing and bumper wage taker Joe Cole leaving.
We defo need to get rid of these two...

Bosco

Jamie Carragher earns over 100k PW do you advocate getting rid of him as well? He was mainly a sub last year, an expensive one at that!

Awful vitriolic post! He's a squad player who never whinged when he is on the bench and try's his hardest every time he plays, obviously not one of our most skilful players but we need committed players like Jay. If he can be replaced by a better player happy to play second fiddle to Lucas then do it but it's not likely is it?

Bit harsh, not his fault he is picked for the first team and why wouldnt he stand proud to be representing his hometown club. You'll be wanting him to sacrifice part of his pay packet on the basis of his performance level next! Up to the manager / club to move him on but I imagine that is well in hand as having him agree a new contract, some 15 months ago, was probably the realisation the club wanted to move him on for a good fee.

Ciario

Honestly, i think the way people attack wee Jay is horrendous. He was hit and miss last season, but was nowhere near as bad as some make out (although he was awful against Gomel). I think he's got big flaws in his game in terms of his positional sense and vision, but he's a great tackler and has decent pace and i would much rather have his Mascherano-like terrier approach in the first team (not that he's in the same league as Masch) than Charlie Adam. Spearing also makes up on his lack of height with the fact he's got a great jump (anyone remember him winning a header against Crouch last season?) In all i think he's a decent squad player who can do a job and would give anything for the club, but the way some supporters get on his back is nothing short of disgraceful. How do you expect him to improve when you get on at him like that? It's similar to Henderson last season. He had a few good games and a few bad at the start of the season, but once supporters started moaning everytime he made a mistake (or touched the ball in some cases) his confidence must have gone through the floor. No wonder he didn't have the guts to try adventurous balls, or runs, or shots. Get off the team's back and support the lads. Help the lads to never walk alone.

Decent pace,behave yourself,when he gets turned he's out of the game.Decent pace,compared to snail perhaps.Decent pace,ha ha ha.Decent pace,Jay Spearing,Sorry mate,but I can't stop laughing at that statement.Ha,ha,ha

Re Quaresma, I have spoken to some Turkish mates of mine, who follow their football like we ours, and Quaresma hasn't been training in pre season, is often injured every 3rd game during the season, and earns a boat load of money. Besiktas have a new chairman who has basically come in and said he can go due to being injury prone and very expensive.

It is apparently that bad between Quaresma and Besiktas, that they have frozen him out of training/accompanying him to get fit. He has hired his own coach in to help him get in shape for the season.

I think the rumour about LFC bidding 8 million euros for him was more wishful thinking from Besiktas, or rather annoucing that they would dream of 8 million if a formerly interested club would come in for him (like Liverpool) and be daft enough to offer that.

So, sublime player when he was 25/26 and when Rafa looked at him, still is, but nowadays too injury prone. Of course, Turkish football is very dirty (as they say themselves), kind of in the same way as Italian football. Stamp on feet/ankles, rake down legs etc etc... so this might not help, but I seriously doubt if Brendan would be interested in parting with 8 million for a player who cannot be counted on to play 9 out of 10 games. Maybe if we got him for free on the back of a box of kellogs.

There went my dream of a Quaresma winger playing outside right for us. ...... YNWA! Andy W

Ed019, if Carroll and Agger were to be sold, for around £20m and £27m respectively, who do you think would be realistic replacements? Also, what do you think the chances are of us getting Torres back? :')

Redmenrus {Ed019's Note - Regarding Agger, the most realistic replacement would be Fernando Amorebieta of Bilbao. If Carroll is sold, I expect interest in strikers of a higher calibre, but there are no names as of yet. There is no chance of a Torres return}

My ideal replacements would be Diego Godin and Leandro Damiao.

Its good to see a bit of positivity return in the posts If you read my past posts i've always said give BR and FSG a chance because why wouldn't they wish the best for LFC.?

I just wanted to also say it is so easy to get caught up pre-season evaluating who we may buy , who we may sell and forget what really matters and thats being made to feel good , bad and generally excited by our great club. If FSG didn't buy the club its these emotions that could so easily have been lost a la Glasgow!.

I wanted to share some of my own experiences with a hope of putting a smile on peoples faces :

Best LFC moments:

1. 2005 - nuff said
2. Being at Anfield when we went out to Athletico Madrid - funniest night of my life sat next to a fat scouser who kept calling Forlan 'Sally Gunnell' !- fantastic. I genuinely think Forlan went home and googled her to see what the hell this bloke wa son about.
3. Being at Anfield for the 4-4 draw against Arsenal - so close that year.
4. Trading banter with the stoke fans - always good
5. Being called soft lad for the first time .

The point i'm making is as Liverpool fans we all have special memories and whether we finish 4th , 8th or win the bloody league its actually about the journey so enjoy it.

My own opinion is we will finish 4th/5th this season but will fit into our skin and mount a challenge in 2 - 3 years time.

I've never not had a comment posted so hopefully this gets put up and a few more people stop think and smile and realise how great it is supporting LFC.

PS. Probably get battered tonight by Gomel x

RedJonny 1

My fave moment watching liverpool was away at crystal palace in 05/06 i think when a scouser gave all the people in the row of seats fruit gums to throw at the ref. At the end of the game the ref came towards the away stand and said i would have reported you guys but they are my fave sweet lol.
Red raj {Ed052's Note - I just enjoy every game I have been to - but up until my last game at Anfield, they had drawn every single match I had seen. Off to my first European night tonight though, cant wait for the atmosphere!!}

My favourite moment was walking up those steps towards my block and the pitch being head height. It was so mesmerising and it took my breath away. It was at night so the atmosphere was fantastic. Honestly the most breathtaking moment in my life, I didn't expect it to be that atmospheric.

After the Barcelona ~ Man United game last night Tito Vilanova said ''Tello leave? That would be silly. The reason he has no squad number yet is because when he chooses his number he wants to keep it for a long time, We have no problem with this so we said he could take his time and decide, He is going nowhere, He loves this club and in a few years he will be talked about in the same breath as Xavi, Messi and Iniesta.

Tello himself said, When asked about links to Juventus, AC Milan and Liverpool. ''Why would any player ever leave Barca? Juventus and Milan are great clubs who will always be among the best, But they are still not Barcelona. I dont really know that much about Liverpool, It would be a step down for me and im really happy hear. Im going nowhere''

Man City look favourites to sign Swansea's Scott Sinclair. A bid has been made and Swansea have no alternative but to accept a decent offer as he is in the last 12 month's of his contract (Now that city have bid so can BR under his gentleman's agreement with Swansea).
If city do sign Sinclair,this will have a knock on effect with Adam Johnson, who is desperate to leave City because he is not getting enough playing time and thinks this will impact on his international prospects. Liverpool, Sunderland and Newcastle all monitoring the Johnson situation closely.

Not a rumour as such, more some thoughts during a quiet moment at work. The nature of certain posts on this site (frustrated at lack of instant transfers, criticism of FSG, BR etc) strikes me not only as odd but which also go against the values inherent to the club we all love. Watching my first game with my old man (Liverpool v Spurs) many years ago, we were lucky enough to be winning games and titles. Now that my nine year old boy is a fan of our great club, it actually makes me proud that he supports a team that is not necessarily winning things left right and centre and that it's not taken for granted that we'll win every game. Sure, all his mates support City, Chelsea or United (that's what kids do after all), and he takes some good humored stick about supporting a team that, for the moment, struggles. What I try to instill is that it's about sticking by your team through thick and thin. I'm approaching 38 and of course I'm desperate for us to win the league again. But if we don't do it again in my lifetime, so be it. And I'm not going to change who I support or kick them in the nuts in the meantime, certainly not when they are in need of all the support they can get. When we lose I'll just kick the cat and maybe bitch at my wife a little but the pain we suffer now will only make the good times better. And one of the things that undoubtedly makes the city of Liverpool so great (the people, the club etc) is its ability to get through adversity with heads held high and with an indomitable sense of pride and loyalty. Fans who kick us when we are down would do well to remember the lyrics beginning When you walk through a storm. I love my club and, like this time every August, am looking forward to the season beginning with a sense of optimism and excitement. Btw, it's a fantastic site. God only knows how you Eds find the time for it. Best wishes, Matt {Ed052's Note - Fantastic post - but I feel sorry for the cat haha.}

i can 110% confirm we are sighning joe allen from swansea for a fee of 15m plus add on's. adam johnson is in talks with liverpool if all goes well he will be sighned by next friday or before. and yes the rumours are true regarding theo walcott how true im not sure but we are intrested . and also there is intrest in two top players from spain one of the players we all no very well. S. Mc.

This was yesterdays news.. There are no add one as his release clause is 15m, why would we pay OVER the fee needed? You don't need to "confirm" anything..

Guess what? Liverpool are close to signing wonder kid Tony Hibbert. My sources say that a fee in the region of £45-50m has been agreed (should help Bill Kenwright out a bit). Personal terms are now being agreed and it should be done by Wednesday.

Pato have a personal relation with Berbara Berlusconi. she have the mejor share of ac milan now. that's the reason he didnt move to PSG.

Brendan Rodgers philosophy:

Attack is the best form of defense, congest the midfield with natural midfielders, midfielders that can pass and move, midfielders that are comfortable playing in any position, technical players that can create chances out of nothing. There's no need to do a Chelsea and play the one dimensional 2 wingers and 2 central Midfielders. Brendan wants his midfielders to be utilised in most positions thus creating more chances through the middle using the strikers for width of needed. 3 at the back, very unorthodox but can be effective when you have a deep holding midfielder breaking up play, standing his ground infront of the defense. This is purely my opinion and you have a right to an opinion too, here's how I think the team next season should line up at home.

................. Reina..................
Johnson.....Skrtel......Enrique
............Lucas... Allen............
................Gerrard................
..... Ramirez......... Sahin........
.......... Wallcott.Suarez.........

We will be playing 4-3-3...1 central defender with full backs who like to attack would be stupid.

Ramirez and Sahin wont sign for us. Walcott is brutal, Arsenal supporters would be delighted if they got more than 15m for him. Allen is not worth 15m. yet again we are overpaying for average players

So you aint gonna play our new 11 million signing up front?
LeeWils

As per BR himself -

"Then I look at the potential of the front four in terms of Borini, Suarez, Gerrard and Downing and you've got pace, power, creativity and hunger, so I'm excited about going forward.

"It will just take time for the chemistry to take place. That's why we do our work on the field, so in time we can execute those patterns."

So 4-3-3 with Gerrard sitting behind Downer, Borini, Suarez. Allen and Lucas bossing the midfield.

We do really need to get another good stringer to replace downing tho...

eds please post this and reply as i would like to hear your opinion(s)

on the basis we sign allen and sahin and get rid of adam and spearing, who would be likely to start in the midfield 3 if everyone is fit....
gerrard, lucas, allen, hendo, shelvey, sahin, cole...what 3 of them in your opinion should/would start?

thanks and please post {Ed002's Note - I have no opinion but I am sure others will.}

I guess it would depend on the opposition. It's definitely a good problem for Rodgers to have though

Curtiss

All 7 would be well capable and experienced enough of a starting place which would add good depth and help rotation for cup matches. I suspect Gerrard, Lucas and Allen would be Rodgers first choice 3 for a 4-3-3.

It will almost certainly be Gerrard, Lucas and Allen.

Lucas, Allen, Gerrard

I would expect Sahin and Gerrard would be first choice players. I also see Allen and Lucas sharing a role, on the basis that it usually takes someone 6 - 12 monthsto get over serious injuries and get back up to speed, thats if they come back the same player.
I see Allen, Sahin and Gerrard as first choice until Lucas is back up to speed, but hey thats just my opinion.

BrisbaneLFC

Being able to pick between Gerrard, Lucas, Allen, Henderson, Shelvey, Spearing, Adam and potentially Sahin would be a very nice problem to have. Being able to rotate between them, keeping them fresh and plenty of competition will be good and hopefully breed better performances.

If Sahin was to arrive, I'd think Adam's days are numbered as I expect Spearing to stay and be used in the Cups.

Must confess to being bit baffled. Many people saying we have activated Joe Allens buy out clause which means we have offered 15 mill, but Laudrup has reputedly reiterated today that Swans want about 20K.
Can he force us to pay above the buy out level? {Ed052's Note - I would pay 20k for him, myself, and no he carnt make us pay more.}

Carnt ? What English is this?
Can't you spell cannot or can't.

Thought I'd just put in my two pence over the Agger situation. It seems to me that whatever happens, it's a win win for us. If he stays then we have kept our best centre back since Hyppia and also maintained one of the best centre back pairings in the league. On the other hand. If we sell him, we won't accept anything less than £22m, a handsome sum for an injury plagued defender, and more than enough to cover a replacement and more. Personally then, I'm not too worried what happens, because either way Rodgers knows what he wants and can get it regardless of whether Agger stays or goes.

The future's bright. The future's red!

Best way to look at the situation really, totally agree with what you've said and either way Liverpool will come out of this better by keeping the mancs millions from taking a great player or by cashing in on an unfortunately injury prone player for a very high fee!

09 Aug 2012 12:46:53
Ed I never quite understood the Adam signing, I guess it was down to Gerrards injury, but now do you see him having a future at the club, or is he likely to move.

09 Aug 2012 12:41:15
I dont have a source but i think LFC could line up like this next year.
Reina, Johnson, Skrtel,Coates,Enrique, Lucas (holding mid) Gerrard right side of three, Allen left side, up top Saurez, Carroll, Walcott or Borini. Obviously Coates if Agger is sold. That would leave a strong bench and hopefully we can get rid of the likes of Spearing and Adam, god knows how they even get the privilage to wear a Liverpool FC shirt

Steveo

I think Kelly would start at CB rather than Coates if agger left

otherwise the line up is nearly good provide Carroll is used as a false no. 9 to create spaces for suarez and borini to cut in. else, else downing will be used to whip in the crosses.

09 Aug 2012 12:35:03
I personally think Daniel Agger will be sold if Man City bid generously. If I was Brendan I wouldn't want to sell Daniel, players like Daniel are priceless. Daniel obviously supports the club with impunity, he has experience in the Premiership aswell as the Champions League, at 27 he's at the peak of his career and could possibly play at Liverpool for another 5 years, saying that though, if Liverpool did accept a bid of around £25 Million it might work in their favour due to his time left and previous injury problems.

I don't know what the situation is regarding funding for transfers but if the owners aren't backing Brendan as much as they did with Dalglish, I wouldn't blame Brendan for cashing in on 27 year old plus players as long as he has younger prospects in mind.

Luis Suarez signing a new deal was massively important for us this year. Now that he has signed I personally think what our targets in the transfer market will sign for us over the likes of Tottenham, even Arsenal too. I think, like I've said before, Gaston Ramirez will be signing very soon now that Luis Suarez has signed an extension. Also the Joe Allen deal will be completed this week, it doesn't take a genius to see that. I think rumours regarding Tello, Wallcott, Godin, Sahin and a new striker to be signing will just be pure speculation, I can see Wallcott signing and Godin, Sahin will probably be the 'Shock' signing we've been waiting for.

I really hope we do not sell agger and later rue it like we do for alonso now. For one thing defense like attack is a partnership that takes time to build. And friends what do you make of Martin Kelly? Will he continue to remain a peripheral figure or can he make it big time?

Its ok for old purple nose to spend on veron, ferdinand,rooney, carrick berbaspoff, and all the others, was he not also bidding 30 mil for moura, 20 for van persie, paid 17m for kagawa, he could do with winding his neck in if you ask me.

Morning eds and fellow reds, upon hearing of Joe Allen's impending transfer to our club, my thoughts sprung to the supposed deal between BR and Swansea. I remember hearing that the deal included a clause which stated we weren't allowed to bid for Swansea players in the next 12 months, UNLESS another club expressed an interest in a player. This triggered another unusual thought process, centered around Gylfi Sigurdsson. I thought, perhaps, we let Spurs go for Sigurdsson, as long as they help us out with Allen, by expressing an interest, to help us exploit the loophole. This may be me being naive, and presuming that there's more friendship and 'good manners' in football than I originally thought, but I was just wondering is there anything in this Eds?

Thanks, JFT96 COYR {Ed052's Note - No - the 12 month ''ban'' has gone for Allen, because he, a) wanted to come, b) Swansea wanted the money}

09 Aug 2012 12:06:32
Eds in your opinion is Allen worth 15 million or do you think we are overpaying again? {Ed052's Note - Yes, he will be worth every penny, and more. For my opinion maybe check out the player profiles page, and read my profile?}

09 Aug 2012 11:43:32
ok - a few points.
I think Rodgers needs some briefing on what not to say in press conferences. Whilst we are not in Champs League we may have become a selling club, to actually go on record and say that every player has a price is very naive. The expectation of lifelong liverpool fans is to publicly think big, so statements like this only undermine the ambition of the club. At least Kenny gave very little away in this regard, as did Rafa. I'm seeing too many similarities with Hodgson to inspire too much confidence at this time.
Secondly; I note that Rodgers has been drooling about the forward line at his disposal, reeling off the names of Suarez, Gerrard, Borini (unproven) and Downing (zero goals & zero assists). He also mentioned the pace he has in his forward line...!?! No Brendan - we LACK pace!.
Again, real LFC fans will realise that we need much more quality than this, considering how poor our goals for record was last season. The only new player listed is Borini who is completely unproven in Prem League. That ties in with a previous comment Rodgers made when alluding to the transfer of Borini, when he stated that he is someone that will really excite the fans. Again, this was naive as it heaps huge pressure on the player and the reality is that the fans were generally underwhelmed by this signing and most were alarmed by the price tag.
The mention of Agger in yesterdays press conference would indicate that the club are simply trying to drive up the price to offload him. This is ridiculous. He is precisely the type of footballing centre back that LFC need under ROdgers methods. It seems Agger really wants to stay (exactly the mentality we need) yet by publicly putting him out there as possibly available, this will not do wonders for Aggers confidence. Also, if city have a bid accepted and Agger decides he doesn't want to go, then he will remain and he will be first choice when fit - so where does this actually get us - nowhere!
I'm worried that Rodgers retains the small club mentality, which could prove difficult as we go through the season.
All true LFC fans will be patient, particularly if we are watching an enterprising brand of football. I genuinely hope he succeeds, as he is a good guy. I just think he needs a bit more educating on some matters.

Mr. No-name,

Did it occur to you that BR might be trying to boost the morale of his frontline? When Downing was in Middlesborough he was always at his best after praises from the Manager.

I understand your skepticism but you need to understand that BR seems to know what he is doing. Let's give him the chance to do his thing 'The Liverpool way' then we will know whether to criticize him or not.

O'seunfunmi (Anfield Red)

Ok so Benitez never said anything similar to what Rodgers said yesterday?

"if you ask any manager in the world they will tell you they want more money and want to spend but at this moment we have to do what's best for the club. If a club came in and offered a lot of money for a player then it would be about doing what is best for Liverpool" Benitez.

And what is so bad in saying that every player has a price? it is true. Look at Torres, Carroll, Ronaldo etc etc they were all sold because the buying club offered the right price.

If City offered £200m for Messi do you think Barcelona would accept it?

You have taken a few lines from Rodgers press conference and used it as a stick to beat him with. He also said "Daniel is a top player and any manager will tell you that they don't want to lose their best players" but you chose to ignore that.

I suggest you watch the whole press conference rather than just paraphrasing a few lines.

JRG

I dont see the problem with saying every player has its price?

They do at the end of the day do you think Barcelona wouldnt except a billion for Messi,your not thinking literally on this matter because they would.
Would you not except 100 million for Agger,you would so he has a price.It may not be a realistic price but if someone wants too pay it then he has a price like every player does.

Kopping a feel

Ok - but if, by your theory, he is trying to boost the morale of his front line, why then does he take a completely different approach when pimping Agger about to try to get more fund in? what must that do for Agger's morale..? Very inconsistent in his approach me thinks?

Not only that, but he was right in saying that every player has a price. Even the likes of Messi & Ronaldo have a price, it will just be very high.
Football teams evolve. Players leave and are replaced.
If someone decides to meet our asking price for one of our players, that doesn't mean we are a selling club. It means that we can replace them with the funds provided from the sale of the outgoing player.

It is a bit different from the selling-club strategy that has been in pace at Arsenal for a while now, where they get them in young and cheap, develop them and then sell them on for a massive profit either just before or at their peak.

As for your other comments, why can't the manager try and give some confidence to the players currently in the team/squad?

He will know exactly what position he wants to strengthen, which players he has that he does not want and which players he wants to come in.

Just because he came from Swansea, does not mean he has a small club mentality.

Excellent post !
Rodgers will be Hodgson Mk II.
Let the results do the talking.

Red verdad

You have to find this one funny Ed002, given the stick Rafa got for selling Alonso?
A big profit and he still had Lucas and Mascherano, still lets not look at the big picture eh?

Saying that rogers needs more educating on some matters? He has a lot more experience than many people give him credit for, I think you should educate yourself before criticising our manager and then saying we should be patient and support him. Lets give the guy a chance and not jump on him and scrutinise every word he says.

It would surely boost aggers morale being told he wont go for less than 27million. Im pretty sute the majority of CB would be chuffed knowing they were worth that much to the club.they have overvalued him because....hes going nowhere

09 Aug 2012 11:43:25
We should go in for Chong Yung Lee from Bolton. Was linked before leg break, seen him at Tranmere/Bolton in the week. Still a class player.

Hes a class player would be cheap as well, fits the system perfectly, miles better than Quaresma

Very good player from what I have seen but again prices are set by the selling club and I think he will be worth more to them than us.

Hi Eds.. grt site ..why wud we look to sell agger and carrol to raise funds surely its one or the other noting BR had funds already.. or is it a case of cashing in on agger for stupid money and carrol just needing to be replaced that fits BRs style of football {Ed052's Note - Yes - Agger as he's injury prone and we can get a lot for him, and Carroll because we can still get a bit for him, and he wont fit the style.}

Hi may I know what's the current rumours on Barca's Tello? Seems a good prospect to me. {Ed052's Note - well the rumour is he might be coming on loan - to where we are not sure - but there is interest from Liverpool, but many other clubs as well}

I can't wait to see Joe Allen in a Liverpool shirt!

I think Walcott could be a decent signing.

I think Dempsey might be needed to keep some experience in the squad if Adam goes, but it will be an improvement.

Downing looks more confident than last year.

Suarez on a new contract.

Borini may impress?

This information isn't new to anyone but just a few positives (in my mind) that i wanted to re-share with you all from the transfer period so far!

The question is: Will we be top 4 material this year? I hope so.

I agree! I think Joe Allen will look really pretty in red ;)

"Then I look at the potential of the front four in terms of Borini, Suarez, Gerrard and Downing and you've got pace, power, creativity and hunger, so I'm excited about going forward." - Brendan Rodgers from Official LFC site

No mention of Carroll. Definitely off. Hugely disappointed {Ed052's Note - he carn't mention every player can he. He didn't mention Bellamy, or sterling, or Suso - must they be going? Carroll leaving is now not as clear cut as it was.}

Bellamy has gone? {Ed052's Note - Not yet - but he will be. I was just trying to make the point that he cannot mention every attacking player, so if he misses one out it doesn't mean that they are leaving.}

Ed i think you missed the point, he mentioned all our first team attacking player, hes not gona mention our reserve team players i.e. suso, sterling and eccleston. Because they will not be regular starters but to clearly miss out carroll hopefully means he will be gone. I was saying all last season what an awful player he is, we need a more proven pacy striker. Also for br to say we have pace, power etc in attack is simply not true, gerrard has lost his pace, downing hasnt got much, so really we are lacking desperately in pace, flair and technical abaility upfront. Who is he trying to kid? That kinda comment sounds like hodgson, i just hope he proves me wrong. We still need to replace kuyt, maxi , aquilani etc and still we need players on top of that as we were short of quality even with these players, less then 2 weeks to go we dont look an organised club with owners who want to be competing at the top. RedTurk {Ed052's Note - He didn't mention Sterling who will be as regular a player as Downing this season.}

Interesting that he sees Gerrard as part of the front. Does he see him on the right side of the front three maybe?

Carroll leaving was never clear cut.

I have a question for all liverpool fans. How exactly is BR going to improve the squad by selling Agger and replacing him with amorebieta? Is it simply to raise money or does he actually think amorebieta is gonna be better than agger? I have seen him play, n he is not even good enough to wipe Dagger's boots.
Indian Buzzer

Id say Coates would do the job.
Red Branch

Many people said agger wasn't good enough when he signed from brondby and that he couldn't replace carra or Sami but he has clearly improved and amorebieta has the potential to be as good as agger and he is 4-5 years younger I think. Liverpool are not actively seeking to sell agger but would accept offers of the right price for him although they would still rather not sell him
SM91

BR has no intention of selling Agger, however if someone does meet the £27,000,000 asking price, well for a player who has missed half of our games since 2006 with injury, he would be a fool to turn it down!

By having seen him play, do you mean the europa league and copa del ray final?

Having said that we should not sell our best players. But if city actually offers above 25 million, it would be absolutely foolish to reject it.

There are players like Godin, Subotic and Rami who could be brought in as a replacement.

Corvin

As I said yesterday, selling Agger for 20 million or so will provide funds for the manager and release a player who only plays half a season on average - make sense don't you think? I imagine BR will replace him with a younger ball playing CB who will quickly adapt to the managers system. To reiterate, it will release precious funds to bring good players in on loan or buy.
Also would like to add that Allen has the potential to be a world class player and don't be suprised if he's worth in excess of 25 million in a couple of year!

Amorebieta is 27, same age as Agger. I agree with Indian Buzzer on this one, Amorebieta is an awful player. Last season alone, he got 18 yellow cards! which led to 2 reds. Plus, he is NOT quick, extremely aggressive and gets caught out a lot.

AG {Ed052's Note - haha, exactly what my profile says haha.}

Apologies I thought I had read somewhere that amorebieta was 23! My mistake and listening to those stats regarding cards etc it does look like a bit of a strange signing but possibly rogers is thinking that in the premiership he may not get as many cards due to the strictness of the refs?
SM91

If we get amoribieta, im pretty sure we will ship in as many goals as arsenal. Why not sign a class defender like godin if BR is so intent on selling agger? Instead he has gone for a second rate player like amorebieta. Very excited about borini and allen, but this cb issue is being completely mismanaged by BR. maybe a little inexperience coming into play? I think BR will regret it in the near future.

a web site reporting that Jose Mourinho is going to allow Kaka to go out on loan, possibly to the english Premiership. How likely would it be that Liverpool are on his Radar? An excellent midfielder, obviously not at the height of his powers any more but nevertheless a great player.

Scottishred {Ed052's Note - Extremely low - think of the wages!!}

Long live the KING and may the Prince prosper.
REDistani........YNWA

The reason why arsenal sell good players is because they want to leave.agger wont sign a new contract and wants to leave so you sell him simples.

It's not all about money for arsenal! They did finish above us in the league last season so they must be doing something right!

Agger has just got a YNWA tattoo on his knuckles after telling a fan outside melwood he would never want to leave the club... If he's moves it's deffo not for money as Macca rightfully said, if he's doesn't want to leave, the club can't force him out can they?

Am I ring in thinking even if Man City offer the required ammount for Agger - I dont think he'll agree personal terms does anybody else? I sure hope not..

I agree completely and think he would only move abroad. I think we will demand a ridiculous deal for him and if city decide to meet it we will reluctantly accept and then give agger the opportunity to speak with them but I think it would show great loyalty from him if he refused to talk to them and said he wasn't interested in the move, which I think is very possible considering the comments he has made in the past!

All this talk of us interested in llorente? But if the speculation is true that Carroll doesn't fit into BRs style of play, why would we go for llorente? They are both Target men just that llorente being more technically gifted. {Ed052's Note - Exactly}

Before Jack Wilshere got injured Arsene Wenger felt Yann M'villa is not needed.They have Diaby,Song,Arteta,Rosicky and Wilshere so i doubt Sahin would be moving there.
Loan move to turkey also failed so i really suspect he will end up at Liverpool.
-Joe Allen
-Gaston Ramirez
-Nuri Sahin
-Ibrahim Afellay
-David Villa
-Adam Johnson
-Tello
-Kaka
-Theo Walcott
-Mesut Ozill
Ed's is it safe to expect 3 or 4 signings out of those 10 to end up at Liverpool?
If Jay Spearing,Charlie Adam,Andy Carroll,Joe Cole and Craig Bellamy are all set to leave. .Macca's 4 Signings and 1 on loan makes sense to me

Thanks

Nile {Ed052's Note - I dont think Cole will be leaving. And 3 or 4 from that list, perhaps. Allen yes, and I guess that Walcott, Tello, Affelay and Sahin are all options, so maybe 3 isn't a wild guess.}

£10M On Borini, £15M On Allen, That leaves £5M Of the said rumoured £30M transfer funds, Eds And reds, Do we now have to sell or loan to bring in the other players that Macca has stated, Cheers, TJ. {Ed052's Note - There is no set transfer budget - and expect a few players to be offloaded soon, and perhaps one or two coming in on loan too.}

Feel sorry for the ed's when people keep on asking about budgets etc, they must have lost count of how many times they have to say there is no set budget. Don't worry ed's they'll listen one day!!
SM91 {Ed052's Note - When pigs fly maybe haha}

Maybe the Ed's can put a list at the top of the page.

Lets start it for them now..........

1) There is no set transfer budget. If a player is deemed to be a requirement by the current manager funds will be made available.

2) Every player has a price, no matter who they are or what team they play for (even the likes of Messi & Ronaldo - although their price would be quite high).

3) Just because BR came from Swansea, does not mean he is a small-time manager or has a small-club mentality.

4)

5) {Ed052's Note - haha}

Torres will not return either will alonso

Joe Allen looks done and dusted at 15m.
Could be a bargain if he makes our midfield click again.
We have never really looked the same since Alonso Left.
Although he's not all that similar to Alonso, he might end up filling the gap Alonso left in linking up the defence with midfield, the midfield with attack etc.
I also think he will bring out the best in Lucas and gerrard.

are reporting that if Agger goes Godin from Athletico Madrid would be the number 1 target for his replacement. Is this just lazy journalism because we were linked last year or is Agger realistically gone. Godin is a good replacement but id rather him and Agger in the centre of our defence with Skrtel warming city's bench with Nasri.

{Ed052's Note - If Agger goes we will go for Amoriebieta I am pretty sure.}

09 Aug 2012 08:05:28
Eds if it's true that we have triggered Joe Allen's release clause we are clearly have to many midfielders. Are u aware of interest in any of our MCDonald's ie Adam, spearing etc? As I'd rather see on of these go rather than after

Thanks red dan {Ed052's Note - I can see both Spearing and Adam leaving - to where im not sure. Rumours persist Adam could go to Fulham, and Spearing to Notts Forest keep cropping up.}

Wasn't there something the other day about this too? Its clearly as they are updating the kits and nothing sinister. Also, why would you remove someone's photo if you were selling them and not just remove the whole profile itself?

09 Aug 2012 10:07:47
Y'know what? So, Allen may only be worth £12m tops in the current market. £15m was his sell activation clause and we wanted him, so we paid it.

Stop the Bi-Polar whining already. when will we sign some one? Why have we signed Allen? We have no money! We spent too much on Allen!

This shows intent. FSG will back the manager. We have money. We don't need to sell before buying. We do, however need value investments and balance wage bill. Glad someone with business sense is finally running our club.

BR knows what he wants and he is very obviously calling All the transfer shots.

Im reading in today's papers that agger will be able to leave for 27 million,if city match this why don't we test arsenals resolve with van persie he would be allowed to leave for 20 million,I know we haven't got cl this season but surely Rodgers could sell the club to him

And the wages? That's what he's looking for

I wouldn't spend £20m on van persie.
He's just looking for a big final payday before his legs go.

MIKEY {Ed052's Note - And you must ask yourself, is RVP actually that good?}

Wishful mate... Why would he go to Liverpool when he has Utd, City and Juve in for him? Take off the red glasses and think logically

How exactly could BR convince a player like rvp to go to lfc,what exactly would BR say to convince rvp,CL not in it and prob not in it next year,higher wages,no chance of that,a club on the up that will be challenging for titles erm no again.so you must be on about the lfc history thing,that 20 year period lfc won a lot of trophies,apart from that lfc,s history is a shadow of arsenals (do a bit of reading and you will see what i mean) so there you have it kid NO CHANCE.also 27m for agger lmao,i like him and the likes of city may pay 20m but in reality 10m-14m is your top price for agger

Rvp; world class for a season, nowhere for 5 other

RVP had an amazing season last season and may have another one this season after his move to wherever, however he has been injury prone and in previous seasons has been nowhere near "world class" , a good player but never(till last season) prolific.IMO and it is only my opinion he surpassed himself last season and will not reach the hieghts again i compare him to Torres never prolific at madrid although obviously good however came to LFC was brilliant for 2 seasons and then levelled out at his natural level i feel RVP will do the same and is only looking to have his final big pay deal. class is permanent form temporary fowler scored goals wherever he played and whoever was supplying him Torres goals per game with out Stevie G?,goals per game before/after his purple patch.... not great now ask yourself the same questions for RVP as i said class is permanent form temporary(whether good or bad) .
there you have my opinion feel free to comment

gra2966

Gra2966 actually your wrong in your assesment of rvp.he has been leading goal scorer in the prem up until nov-dec (until the enevitable injuries arrived) on a few seasons past.last season was the first where injuries didnt curtail his goal scoring

09 Aug 2012 10:00:44
I really want Rodgers to do well and I will be backing Allen 100% should he sign,but I just feel £15 million is too much,he has had a good season for Swansea which as a result if he got into the Olympics squad,although I feel he played pretty poorly,for an extra few million we could possibly get Ramirez,a player with flair and yes plenty of potential like Allen,I feel we have enough central midfielders and a
Attacking midfielder could do us wonders,anyway this is just my opinion and I hope Allen scores 10 goals and gets 20 assists this season as I will be backing him all the way,as I will be backing Brendan as all LFC fans should,don't be deluded by the transfers but at least back them all you can and keep thief confidence up. Cheers LiamYNWA

Spending a few more million on Ramirez would be a mistake! Allen had a much better Olympics than Ramirez who looked shocking other than his free kick. I'm from Swansea and let me tell you, Allen is one of the most promising players in the prem, he's worth 15mill

09 Aug 2012 09:53:38
Great site Eds! I have been a visitor on this site for a few years but this is my first post.
Allen deal is not £15M (which would trigger release). It is £12.5M plus £2.5M add ons. Swansea want to show their fans that it was beyond their control and a sale was triggered.
Now about Agger. He is 100% going to City. Adam Johnson will come on loan (loan wages paid by City) with option to buy for £12M. Liverpool will receive £8M now and £12M next summer if they refuse to make Johnson deal permanent.
Please don't ask me for my source or why I haven't posted earlier. If I revealed either then this would be my last post.
Respect.

"A Liver n Kicking"

So we're selling Agger for £20m, even though Rodgers has said it would need 'ridiculous money' to sign him?

£20m would just about pay for his right foot.

I think Suarez is going to really bang em in this year. I can't believe that some people - even some LFC fans - have it in their heads that he isn't a natural goal scorer. He did have a bad season last year in the goals scored department, but I assure you that last season was just that, a BAD season. IMO he will score over 25 in all competitions this year. I think he has a point to prove. He will be a monster this season, just wait and see!

Nick

PS Worth a cheeky punt on top goal scorer.

Factor in 8 banned games and hitting the woodwork an insane amount of times.

He'll get a lot more goals this year, I agree mate

He needs quality attacking, flair players around him not henderson, adam, spearing, downing and shelvey none of which can break through teams to help suarez. RedTurk

09 Aug 2012 09:38:53
To all the Agger rumors there - He isn't leaving, he loves LFC and he doesn't care that much for the money IF we sold him it would be a case when the club forces the Player to accept the deal

09 Aug 2012 09:36:21
just got the home kit and feel 2 feet taller and invincible wearing it!

i really dont understand how selling agger is going to improve the squad, obviously we dont have the biggest piggy bank going around but selling our better players to fund ones half the price isnt really the smartest is it?

Although some improvements need to be made.

its like a girlfriend... u dont want them to leave unless they've screwed you over or you are bored with them and i dont feel either with dagger.

Agger is one of the best player we have. in euro 2012 he did very well. he have injury problem who don't have it Gerrard have it too. this guy serve us 7 years . if he join city then get so much money but that not matter to him. he like to sty with us. but BR may have to sale him to buy other player. FSG just no money in a year in market. how much they spend for transfer in a year by the way?

Joe Allen looks as good as done. However I think he isn't worth 15 million.

Maybe not at this present moment, but how much will he be worth in 3 years ?
Fsg look to buying for the future so it looks like they are paying over inflated prices, these players will be worth double in 3 years.
we just need to add some experienced players who could walk straight into the team, Dempsey for instance.

For all the people knocking the alleged £15m offer for Joe Allen - put it into context in the fact that Demento has paid £8m - plus add ons for Nick Powell.
Powell is an 18 year old that has played in the 3rd tier of English football, no higher, and has pretty good stats at that level.

Allen is a proven, and accomplished PL player, with International experience - I will admit his stats are not as impressive as Powells, but he has played and proved himself at a much higher level.

BR likes him, knows his abilities, and obviously knows his future potential.
And importantly he obviously rates him far higher than he did Sigurdsson.

Let's just hope he's proved right.

John B

Powell is 10 times better and he is younger.

Also Arsenal paid £10M for a 29yr old Arteta....
JamieMK9

I think the deal is more like £6 million, after add-ons, but the point is still valid

His stats aren't as impressive as Powells? Are you serious?

Allen had some of the best stats in Europe last year for a midfielder playing in the Prem and not the 3rd tier...

I rate him and hope he doesn't receive the 'Henderson treatment' from some of our fans if we sign him, we need to back our lads 100%

Emlyn

Allen is an experienced international and still only 22.

'Powell is 10 times better and he is younger'

Please explain to me, as you seem to be able to make such brash statements without any expansion on your reasoning, how you can compare an 18 year old who was playing in the third tier of English football, to a midfielder not only with international experience but who also played in the top flight last season?

Powell is 10 times better and he is younger. h best one ive heard. Yes Crewe play in the champions league do they ?

Utd paid 18m for carrick lol.28m for veron 32m for berbatov 7m bebe.everyone makes mistakes its just they have more money and if its not working with a player they can go again pretty soon ,we cant although the likes of carrick while not great still a good squad man so they can keep such players happy as cover. i think the media are all over a player we sign if he has a dodgy start the way they go on r players backs is terrible like that nani has a good game outa every 4 games young is not far of, suarez is right about the power fergie has in the media.Tommy Irish Red.

It's already been stated that Man City are after top class COVER for first choice pairing Kompany and Lescott.

I am usually a more 'glass half empty' type but I have to say I don't think paying 15million for Allen is a mistake. We have a glut of midfielders but, realistically, they are not all brilliant. Spearing is substandard, Adam is not good enough, Gerrard is quality but he is getting older and his injury concerns mean we will be lucky to get another 2 effective seasons from him.

Shelvey is a good talent but is more effective in an advanced role - in comparison Lucas has became top class for us but is much better suited to the more defensive role. Henderson is a work in progress and, I believe, be a value asset to the squad this season and, hopefully, the first team in seasons to follow. I wouldn't say Allen is filling a position we need but it is adding strength in depth, he is only 22 and he is someone who is only going to improve. The transfer fee is irrelevant providing he contributes successfully to our team. I only hope that more quality signings follow and that Allen isn't the last one.

Speaking of other signings it appears we are ramping up our interest in Vargas from Fiorentina and, I expect, we are going to bid before the transfer window shuts. I'm not sure who else is interested but my friend who works within the television side of LFC has said that we will try to sign him. He wont be too expensive and Fiorentina seem accepting of his departure - could be a good addition for the right price and he is versatile all down the left so might give Enrique and Downing a kick in the backside and encourage better performances from the pair.

sorry to say to some lfc fans your expecting big things and dont expect big things to happen till we get champion league, we could have looked at maybe one or 2 bigger players if we won the fa cup burr we lost out again, player who we will be bringing in are not from barcelona and real madrid players they be more swansea standard football players a decent side, dont get your hopes up with all these big names people, we need champion league in till we can start looking at madrid and barca player, one person i would love to see play for liverpool is LEON BRITTON from swansea he was one of top 3 passing in the world last season great player, him and allen together would be great to see.
I should know im a lfc fan from swansea;)

Give me a reason Why Not we looking for big thing. Pepe , Skartel , Lucas , Gerrard , Suarez all this 5 player is world class. we need 2 more that kind then we can be the team as we were 3/4 years a go.

IMO I can't remember the last time there was a CB as good as him at the age of 20 and Shalcke only paid 2 million for him.

Surley if he was avaliable at about 12-15 million he would be a great investment or would Coates be considered a better young CB (even though he is older by a few years) then him?

Mick

I prefer Coates to be given the chance

Agger has got YNWA tattooed on his knuckles. It really seems like he wants to stay.

He want to sty the only club he like to join if he Leave liverpool is Barca. money not matter to this man. but he may have to accept it if we ask him join city.

Agger love lfc

I read that Liverpool are asking around £23million and Adam Johnson on loan for a season as part of deal for Daniel Agger, if that's is true who would you have in mind to replace him, and would you take Adam Johnson on loan or tale another player?

I wouldn't tale another player that's just wrong . I would try de Jong

I would first of all never let DAGGER leave

Are Liverpool just playing the game with agger, maybe it's all just a ploy to negotiate a cheaper contract since they know he loves the club...it worked with Rooney

The big Nolo {Ed049's Note - No way in hell did Rooney get a cheaper contract.}

United allegedly matched the wages City offered him, which was the only reason he stayed, because they certainly haven't shown the ambition in the transfer market that he said he wanted.

Is it only me that feels Joe Allen isn't worth £15mil and we should be looking at wingers such as Adam Johnson?

Yes it is only you!! Check out some clips of him, class!!!

Allen is the type of player we have craved for a long time. I even thought that long before Rodgers was even mentioned for Liverpool. The GT

Yup. Just you I'm afraid.

Just because he doesnt burst pass players lay a 1-2 and curl in top corners?
Many quality midfielders are vastly underated for what they do for the team.

Ed mate cavani or higuain who is a better striker in your honest opinion {Ed049's Note - Cavani}

Higuain by a country mile!!

I love the way BR is saying that ANY player has a selling price. The instant reaction is that the club is willing to cash in on anyone who hits form if the offers are high enough but I suspect it works to our advantage too.
Established players are no longer assured of their place at the club. They can no longer be complacent or let their standards and form drop knowing the club wont let them leave. Surely, this would encourage more effort, discipline and responsibility by the players if they really want to play for LFC, and if they don't.....let's sell.
I would have thought it is to our advantage to have as many bids for different players as possible: we can refuse the lot if need be. The club will have their own valuations which will need to be met and Buck will have his own idea of who he doesn't want to lose, but by putting the message out that anyone is expendable it keeps players on their toes and lets other teams know any players (that are not part of BRs plans) are available for the RIGHT PRICE.
I'm secretly hoping other clubs aren't offering anywhere near enough for Danny Agger as would hate to see him go but if 20m IS offered.........it simply makes good business sense.

cozinoz

Ah cozinoz, at last someone that sees what i see when a manager makes statements like this.
Ok it will be true, every player will have a price, but prove you are worthy of that price and you are rewarded. Fail to step up they will be sold, harsh but BR wants 11 fully commited players, not a Gerrard, Carra and the rest filling in space on a pitch.
Piddy.

Adam johnson is trice a player compare to brainless wallcot. He has got space can dribble and pass defender like fish in water and most important he is only english player after longtime who have got flair. Now don't say why he is on Man city bench if he is that good. When players like nasri, dzeko etc,etc are not playing regulary will you say they are bad.

Red kop

I'll trust BR. Walcott is a liverpool fan so will try everything for the shirt. Adam Johnson is supposed to have a big ego and attitude problems.
derryred

I think they are similar players: both overhyped, both capable of anonymity in a game but both capable of a bit of magic. If they weren't English they would surely be worth about 7-8m max

cozinoz

Id rather have Walcott. When I first seen him at Southampton, he was the nearest thing Id seen to Owen at 16. Wengers wasted him, not everyones Henry.

Strange, a midfield of CESC, Nasri, Wilshire and Song was not able to keep Walcott out of Arsenal's starting 11.

Did you check his record last season ? He got a total of more than 20 goals and assists combined which is better than maybe all of our players.

Corvin

Spot on mate I was there when Adam johnson tore us he is fantastic talent.
Fans who say he is not good enough
Just see adam johnson vs liverpool video
He has got skills,space,can dribble,flair and good end product which can be improved and has got age on his side.what more you want from your winger

Bucks

When are people going to realise, if Johnson was that good he would have got more games for City - even Milner was getting more games than him, doesn't that tell you something - and as far as Liverpool game goes. How many players do you know that have turned it on against us - a few Swansea ones last year perhaps, and many many goalkeepers as well

I was at Melwood today with my girlfriend and two little daughters but everyone was in except for Doni signs that he's leaving ed? {Ed019's Note - Yeah he is}

Sorry, not Liverpool related but just looking at Mr Ferguson's blinkered as always comments on RVP and Lucas M and wanted to vent.

He would move heaven and earth not to sell one of his players to a Premier League rival (remember Heinze for one), Arsenal are just doing the same. As for the fee for Lucas, he must have forgotten the 25.6m he spent on an 18 year old Rooney 8 years ago!!

Rant over, now I'll focus on supporting our boys. YNWA

Craig

Look up the word 'hypocrite' in the Oxford English dictionary and I'm sure you'll find 'current Man Utd manager' as part of the definition. You could write a book on that old fart's double standards

cozinoz

Its bacause he is PO with Paris for signing Lucas the t*t. He will never get a better Lucas lol.

Ian Ayre is off to the Netherlands this weekend. Any ideas who we've looked at over there, that hasn't already left? Doubt it's Eriksen. Also heard that this star player is someone 'you wouldn't expect Liverpool to get'.

JoeKeeno

Is he going to Amsterdam?

It's probably Luciano Narsingh as for Jen Chang really rates him, {It's just a guess
}

"The star player is someone you would'nt expect Liverpool to get" Hmmm, I going for Roy from corrie. YNWA

Danny.

Off to Amsterdam, what are you trying to say?
I'm sure he's there purely on buisness.

Isnt it to do with the Europa League? The final is in Amsterdam this year and at the start of every years competition all the clubs who are in the competition send usually their chief exec or managing director over, this is where the trophey is handed to UEFA from the club who won it that previous May etc

Hi eds, do you know if Carroll & Agger are in the squad for tomorrow? {Ed019's Note - They are both in the squad, but whether they'll be selected is another matter}

08 Aug 2012 23:54:23
I disagree with those who say sell agger now Liverpool should never be selling players going into there prime. Football people know this so what next we buy another young centre back teach him everything then sell him again once he reaches his prime again that to me is a selling club and correct me if I'm wrong we are not a selling/feeder club. Please tell me we're not turning into a selling club.

Toad

You don't sell a player at his prime unless a silly amount is offered. 20-25m for a CB with injury issues is (unfortunately) great business

cozinoz

I can assure you, positively,without a shadow of a doubt,in no uncertain terms and unequivocally we are not a selling club.Honestly,trust me !! B

We're not a selling club but if someone is willing to pay in the managers words "silly money" for an injury prone player who he feels he can replace with a fraction of the amount then we have to back his judgment. As he said if it helps us to make 2 or 3 steps forward then it will be considered.

After watching Vaslui vs Fenerbahce highlight and saw Dirk scored 2...I already miss him
If we used him more regularly in the central attacking role instead on wide right probably he would get more goals

That ship has sailed.

If all of our opponents were of vasuli's level then he also would've got more goals. i really loved dirk kuyt but lets face it- he was a bit part squad player on huge wages. selling him was a no brainerin the end and we can now focus on getting a much better player than him.
derryred

I agree.
He was never really given the chance 'to shine' this past season.
I do feel that we are a 'lesser team' as a result of his departure.

Kuyt was a great servant but he couldn't beat a man, couldn't cross to save his life and was pretty poor in front of goal, his presence as a workhorse was not what we needed and took a place on the bench from a more creative player, which unfortunately we didn't have. He will always be remembered because he loved the club and I think everyone wishes him all the best for the future.

Not really a rumour but saw from training yesterday Dan Agger has YNWA on each knuckle which from last time he was pictured he didn't have, not the act of a player forcing the clubs hand, Dagger will stay thank god

Maybe the club was forcing the player's hand :)

noi Brendan we only sell when it suits us dont like this agger business at all and like i always say for me yes we must keep our best players clearly as ive always said

im hearing honda rumours again eds. any truth this time? {Ed019's Note - Probably a recycled story}

Re-motorcycled story more like !! B

It being Honda , probably reconditioned not recycled !!

So Agger will only go for a ridiculous price and Carroll will have to 'fight for his place'. So it seems to me thats the indication from rodgers that they are both staying and with Suarez signing a contract and players which can improve the squad I'm starting to feel a bit more relaxed and looking forward to the start of the season!

''All things come to those who wait'' !! B
