Surely the "Exciting Player" who rodgers refers to cant be Dempsey or Borini, well i hope not anyway.

I'll be quitely confident that we get some who is genuinely exciting but at the back of my mind all i see is Moses etc.

Would love it to be Jovetic, fingers crossed.

I have a funny feeling it will be Jovetic with Aqua going the other way. Can't see Chelsea signing him (Hazard & Marin), so the only other club who I think he'd go too was Juve, but they do have Giovinco in that position. Would be a great signing if it were true.

please say it isnt borini , personally dont see him as being an improvement on any of the players that we have infact id say a down grade on what we have , would rate him as distinctly average!!!

09 Jul 2012 23:01:37
Just seen press conference and heard Rodgers say maybe a signing before tour but never heard him say there would be a signing for us to get really excited about. Have I missed it? Was it in a different interview? Or are people exaggerating?

It was reported by a BBC journo who claims BR said it off camera.. So nothing concrete..
Davey Liver

10 Jul 2012 09:13:33
BR said that when the cameras were turned off, convenient that huh...now everyone has taken it as gospel

Rodgers actually said it on BBC Radio Merseyside ( straight from the horses mouth so to speak)

can we buy howard webb from man utd ?

r-r

Hes got a buy out clause of 90 million but we have made enquiries fergie seems keen to keep him! 5stars

He looks good in red just not the red of lfc ... Lol

40 years old mate, he doesn't fit into FSG's trnasfer policy mate.

Cuchulainn's Hounds.

Still has the 'greatest impact' on any game though!.

09 Jul 2012 22:55:47
dampsy, borini and bla bla bla. all of them is same unproven can be hit can be miss type of player.

Lol dampsy might as well sign dappy from n-dubz

RED KENNY

Dempsey scored 17 goals last year in the same league as us, I'd say that's pretty proven

And age is 30 now. if it's only for jersy in usa then yes.

09 Jul 2012 22:52:32
I wont be very happy if we get this borni guy ano hes young but i cant see him being top class . we want top 4 finish. we will be spending 8-10 million pound on a unproven striker when we want instant succsess , also we will need 2 top wingers , walcott, krasic or di maria , and bring back cole and aquaman back into the team it will be a good team.

So you don't want to spend 8 million on a young striker but you want to play aqua and cole... Incredible

G BOX

I think you mean YOU want instant success, as Rodgers said this is a long term plan.

I agree with g-box. You ever watch di Maria play? No technical ability.

If anyone read the comments about this 'exciting' signing from Rodgers today then they will know that a 'potential' signing is exciting. He also said that he hope to conclude one or two by the end of the week. Has it occurred to anyone that Borini (if he signs) that Borini is simply one of the 'one or two' not the 'exciting' one?

JR

He also said that the 'exciting' signing would be one the fans 'love'. As you can see JR mate not everyone is happy if Borini signed. The only player imo who fits in with what BR said, is Xabi Alonso.

Who wouldn't want Xabi back?

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96 {Ed016's Note - Nice point Blair}

To be fair all Liverpool fans would be excited by Gaston Ramirez as well. There are plenty of players who the fans would be excited by to be honest.

Evening Ed's!

I know you said you believe Borini is unlikely but if he was to sign would you be happy? The fee has has been quoted seems abit much.

Thanks,

Eddie

09 Jul 2012 22:46:59
ED, who is macca refering to when he said this ? "I believe if a transfer request is put in they will try and sign him.."

miccmak {Ed002's Note - I suspect the Swansea player.}

09 Jul 2012 22:46:18
Our first signing has been at
Bologna - no it is not Ramirez
Chelsea - no it is not Sturridge
Swansea - no it is not Allen
He is young, cheap and a striker - exactly what we are after

Fabio Borini - welcome to Lfc

Leam Red
Granero is not as good as people make him out to be just because he plays for Real Madrid does not make him a better signing than someone like Joe Allen who would probably be what we really need if the fans can get past the Swansea - xabi came from a mid table team !!!

Just watching BR on LFCtv and I have to say every time I see him being interviewed he impresses me more and more. He always handles the press well and always appears to be in control, calm and confident.

He has stated he is actively looking at 3/4 players to add to the squad but most importantly for me, players who want to play for our club and players who understand our club. I have no doubt over the course of the next 12 months we will experience some high and lows but I hope BR is given something that money won't buy him and thats time.

Our club has gone through turmoil over the last 3-4 years, H&G, Rafa's arguments with them, Woy, and KK. During this time we have fallen behind other teams in terms of competing for a top 4 etc. However, if the spine of the squad stay together then I for one am optamisic that we can have a good season, We have 6 or 7 players who the teams above would be happy to take them off our hands.(possibly with the exception of City).

I only hope the players buy into how BR wants to play and that they understand what this club is all about, winning with style (although I would settle for just winning early on!).

Regulars on here will know I was a massive KK fan (always will be) and was gutted when he left. Yet strangely in many ways I can see KK in BR from Kenny's first stint in charge. He appears to be a man who knows what he wants and seems certain to give his all to strive to reach his targets, hopefully for us reds he will.

No doubt whoever he brings in over the summer will not please everyone, but at least lets give them a chance before we decide if they are right or wrong for our club. This is a massive season for us (again) and we need to show BR just why we are considered one of the, if not the best fans in this country, roll on August! - TMac

Good post. The squad is good. It under-achieved last season and the stats do not support the woeful league results - we simply did not get the 'rub-of-the-green' - we failed to convert chances and losing Suarez and Lucas caused us significant problems . The current squad - without any additions at all, is more than capable of getting in the top four. RED LENIN

What we need to do as Liverpool fans is plan a stint of midnight raids on all the premier league grounds in the country and saw 3" off each of the post's and 5" off the crossbars, then we'll be in business.I baggs Old Trafford !! B

I agree with TMac... I love watching Brendan being interviewed...articulate, knowledgable and passionate. I am also a massive kenny fan , but if he was to be replaced, I think BR is the man to do it. I really don't think that there will be that much of a tactical shift either, as we were playing good possession football under kenny. Although I will no longer dread the post match interviews ;-)
I get really worried reading comments on here...missed out another signing, BR small time, FSG - do they know what they are doing...guys, things will take time! I believe that this year is about laying the foundations for future seasons, without - doing a man city. We will get back to the top by being clever and patient, not by spending half a billion on transfers like city. I for one am really excited.
Ps thanks eds for doing a sterling job.
Paul Mc

Keeping the 'spine' of the team together may very well be BR's greatest challenge.

If were hitting the post so many time believe me sawing 3" and 5" would only make matters worse, what we need to be doing is extending by 3" and 5" doh
Jaydee YNWA

i can't believe some people on here are saying we should loan carroll to ac milan, firstly don't u people remember how they've tried to shaft us over aquillani and secondly with his form of late why get rid of him at all.
paul d

09 Jul 2012 22:28:13
I hope we can get Ramirez but I am not 100% confident. Would be a great signing. Borini would be a good backup striker but could develop into something special. Would granero be used as back up DM or a RM/CM? Big fan of the site, keep up the good work Eds.

09 Jul 2012 22:27:06
Ed's could it be Ben arfa?

Red Lee {Ed022's Note - Very unlikely.}

09 Jul 2012 22:25:06
Br should of not said Liverpool fans will get excited unless this player is huge considering every Liverpool fans have such huge expectations I'll personally be let down unless it's messi

Were signing that young wonderkid sig ning hes japanese wat a flier

Rodgers was just making fun of all the rumour-mongering by crazed LFC fans...he just wants them to go over the edge...he mentioned a player that is exciting and loved by us...there are very few players that fit that description and are within our budget...I'm quite amused that he has the LFC fans so worked up...I'm just hoping he can improve our squad and maybe bring in a player or two that could improve us even more...

09 Jul 2012 22:22:13
I think Borini would be a good signing at £8m. When he was at Swansea he looked a quick and exciting forward and a good finisher, he was 19 then, under Rodgers he will be a star very quickly, let's face it we have lacked pace and end product for a long time, if it's Borini get behind the lad
Yorkshire Red

No he isn't good enough. The worrying thing is that he was the exciting signing so I'm worried about the rest.

I haven't seen anything to prove he is worth 8m.

Maybe you have to lower your expectations.

09 Jul 2012 22:21:10
I'm so excited what happens! Liverpool are keeping everything quiet!

Realistic red

09 Jul 2012 22:17:43
I haven't seen a lot of Fabio Borini, but his stats for last season suggest he could be a 1 in 2 striker.

09 Jul 2012 22:16:54
I hope nobody is getting carried away with the supposed signing of Borini, it's BBC that is running away with this story, and yes it could happen, but just remember when they reported that Sig was close to joining us.
Just don't think people should over react just yet.

Badge {Ed022's Note - Good post.}

Not a intarested news. if its a big name player then only can search for it.

09 Jul 2012 22:16:29
If you watch BR's interview, there is no way you can say he wants Carroll. When asked about other players, he gives definite answers, whereas he beat around the bush about Carroll.

I will be at first preseason game in Toronto on July 2st. I'll let you all know how the new players look! My money is on Borini and Dempsey. Too bad Suarez will miss the tour. Gerrard too I assume?

Could everyone who thinks the exciting signing could be higuain please get real? He would cost at least 30million. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN

Yannlfc

09 Jul 2012 22:14:28
I'd gladly take dempsey at this time, he's a better quick solution than siggurdsson, I reckon him, Gerrard and suarez will link up well and they all know where the goal is.

Also I think under Rodgers, Spearing deserves another year, his passing let him down but that's a working progress and personally I think, who better than Rodgers to sort that out. He certainly has passion and determination, so what's to lose?

Cudge

He showed flashes for me last year but his shooting was poor for me alot of them rolled wide or into the keepers hands

Flashes of what!.
Can't imagine him in a old brown trenchcoat!.

09 Jul 2012 22:14:28
Sorry people, but Sturridge, Dempsey, etc. are not exciting players. I am thinking that this is something out of left field and that it is definitely a player from Real Madrid. Just not sure which one. If I get anything concrete I will say.

Evening Ed any chance of a "reply" button on the teams page because there are a few posts on there (especially some of those who have attempted to name a best ever 11) that need a serious responding to!

Chris in Tamworth {Ed022's Note - Unfortunately Chris the reply buttons take up a lot of our data within the servers. It's a pain in the arse I know but there isn't much we can do about it. I'll put it forward anyway.}

Ok cheers Ed

09 Jul 2012 22:06:22
Hi Eds
Having heard the news about Fabio Borini, I feel that everyone is being very cynical and skeptical about him. He was rated very highly at Chelsea and BR saw him first hand for a number of years, so surely he is best placed to make a judgement of the lad's ability? If the supposed fee is in the suggested region of £8-10m, then for a talented 21 year old that shows how much we should have faith in BR, that's a very reasonable fee for a player he believes will succeed at LFC. He showed his potential class at Swansea and then at Roma last season, and I personally am very excited at the prospect of a player like him coming to the club.
Sorry for the rant

Matt

Yeah people saying he isn't good enough should get a grip. if Rodger's thinks he can succeed then we should go for him. besides we aren't going to splash out on a top class striker unless suarez or carroll is sold, so i expect a backup. the exciting signing that i think BR is on about is a midfielder, but that is my assumption. we can only wait and see.

09 Jul 2012 22:05:33
A bit disappointed with the Sturridge bashing on here I think he's a good player that would improve our team drastically. He had a great youth career and was coveted by all the top teams went on loan to Bolton and had a great scoring record and was Chelsea best player last season until AVB got sacked.

09 Jul 2012 22:00:41
Xabi Alonso pictured arriving at John Lennon airport this evening, can we read anything into this eds in terms of him coming back or is he just simply visiting friends in the area?

Blackpool Phil {Ed022's Note - Not a clue.}

Xabi alonso lets face it that is aplayer that would excite all of our fans and hopefully shut a few of them up

09 Jul 2012 22:00:19
Hi Eds,i come on this site everyday to catch up on the rumours,and with regards to what BR has said today about signing an exciting player and also saying there isnt a lot of money to splash,is it possible he could mean a big name coming in on loan from somewhere? thanks Eds great site :-) {Ed022's Note - It is possible.}

09 Jul 2012 22:00:17
Xabi alonso the midfield maestro of rafas red revoloution has landed at john lennon airport today, there are hundreds of sightings and smudges to prove it. Welcome home lad in roger we trust. Redted

Really Brendan. I am supposed to be excited about borini. {Ed022's Note - I know the feeling. I still don't believe it is him though, so there's still hope if it helps.}

No, Borini is the un-exciting signing. You're supposed to be excited by the other one. ;-)

And so he came to be known as Borini the Unexciting, the first of his name.

hello ed which attacking edtion to the team do u think wud make the most sense and fit with the rest of the team, for talk sake carroll up front with suarez and dempsy for e.g the i dont see how carroll bel suarez and a few other players are all gona fit in together once a few new signings come in {Ed022's Note - Ramirez.}

I have it on good authority from my source that everyone who claims to have a source is lying. Also, people that suggest they know when deals/medicals will take place are also lying. Furthermore, anyone saying 'watch this space' or 'you heard it here first' are also lying.

Thank you and goodnight.

09 Jul 2012 21:53:24
Borini...the exciting signing? An average player at best who's in Italy squad to make the numbers and because apart from Balotelli and Di Natale there's a dearth of Italian born forwards in Italy. BR must be pulling our legs!

Alsendo matri of juventas is the fantastic striker watch out in future.

09 Jul 2012 21:51:46
Eds, surely Fabio Borini can't be the exciting signing BR thinks Liverpool fans will love? Do you rate him? What do other fans think? LFC4eva {Ed022's Note - I don't think it is him personally, and I personally think he's average.}

I agree with this. There aren't even any reports of our interest in him coming out of Italy. It's just BBC speculation because he used to play under him.

ST; Higuain - £24m - 30m euros
CAM; Granero - £8m - 10m euros
LWF; Griezmann - £13.5m - 17m euros

£45.5m = 57m euros

...................reina
johnson, skrtel, agger, enrique

................GRANERO
....suarez.................GRIEZMANN
.................HIGUAIN

Ramirez instead of Granero and we'd win the PL.

what's all this about borini? thought the rumours had cooled off

09 Jul 2012 21:39:52
This is brilliant we've all gone transfer mad!!
Borini
Ramirez
Jovetic
Higuain
Ozil
Alonso

All signing on Friday. Bring on the Mancs we're coming to get you.....

You forgot my personal favorite- Kaka.

Eds, I think you need to demand an apology from BR for the 'signing a player the fans will love' commentary. This must be doing your collective heads in.

It is going to be a very long summer for you all. You have my sympathies...

RDL {Ed022's Note - I've had to edit over 400 posts in the space of an hour saying the same thing. Believe me, I am on the edge of suicide.}

No worries, Ed022. After we get past Phase 1) Unbridled Enthusiasm we'll soon see Phase 2) Smokescreens of Deception followed by Phase 3) Despair and Disillusionment before it starts all over again.

Have to admit, though, as painful as the enthusiasm phase must be with some of the ludicrous claims coming out, it its kinda nice to see some element of positivity on here.

Great job Eds and it's all very much appreciated.

Noooooo dont do it ed22!

09 Jul 2012 21:34:14
Hi ED'S good job guys..:)

Well just a quick one and I'm really confused on why everyone is so happy for a player lyk Borini to be comen in he is going to be another Carroll sad to say but true,I wait so long as well as all the the great liverpool fans are and our 1st signing will be Borini,we should be looking at players like AJ from city Ramierz loan for diarra players that can make a change and are up for sale!I understand the wage thing but we all have 2 be real players lyk Borini and Dempsey not going 2 get us in the top 4 where we belong.sad days bad choice to even give BR the job..great site Eds sori for been negitive but I'm sure yall wants us fighting for titles not tott and newcar for 4th spot whole season..

09 Jul 2012 21:34:03
Eds I reckon the two signings will be Borini and Granero any thoughts on that? {Ed022's Note - I like cabbage.}

09 Jul 2012 21:30:53
Maby it callejon from real madrid young exiting and resale value should cost around 10-20 million euros quick and can play in the 4-3-3. STEMLOCC1

09 Jul 2012 21:30:34
Alonso was seen at John Lennon airport today. Anybody know anything about it. Also spurs are willing to let van davart, leave for 10 mil, I think Liverpool should sign him.

VdV will likely go to Schalke. Would like to see us sign him but can't see it happening.

09 Jul 2012 21:30:33
BBC are reporting that we are close to signing Fabio Borini.Looks like Macca lad is on the ball. This would be a great signing. Could Allen follow him?

Mighty reds

09 Jul 2012 21:29:59
Personally think the signing this week will be a striker, Bellamy and Suarez will be in Olympic squads, although Uruguay have not confirmed theirs yet. This leaves Carroll as our only first team squad striker for the tour of America, which will hopefully mean he wont be going anywhere as he looked really good at the end of the season. Even if Carroll doesn't fit into the supposed system he would be an excellent player to come off the bench and change things. I have faith in the manager, FSG and whoever is brought into the club.
Mark

09 Jul 2012 21:28:21
Joe Allen is a good player but what about the 12 month ban from aproaching swansea player is that just rumour?

It isn't a rumour. Rodgers allowed Sigurdsson to speak to Swansea first as he had agreed a fee for him while Swansea manager so he won't be poaching any of their players this season. Shame because I like Allen.

LH1992

If Allen requests a transfer then we can try to get him...

09 Jul 2012 21:28:07
BBC Sport states that we are close to the signing of Fabio Borini ..... I don't think that is a signing that will get all the fans excited ?? Is that how far we have come, for us to be happy with players that are not good enough for other Top Prem teams? Or is it that we are just not a Top Prem team anymore?? :(((((

to all the eds, i bet you are just loving brendan rodgers right now for making that "a player that will really excite the fans" statement every man and his dog is going to be asking you who its going to be for the rest of the week lol {Ed022's Note - Rodgers made an enemy in me today.}

The player has already excited the fans, and we don't even know who he is yet

09 Jul 2012 21:26:25
Good evening ed's,
I'm reading on previous posts about Carroll being offloaded and personally I think too many LFC fans are using him as a scapegoat. His success at Newcastle was down to quality service into the box, this was prooven it can be done at LFC with Gerrard and him linking up in the euro's. I highly doubt it that BR wants rid because he is our target man, and with this supposedly exciting new signing it is possible it could be a tricky winger with good service (hopefully better than downing). Personally ed's do you think it would be a good idea to let go of our geordie giant?

Thanks for your time! {Ed022's Note - I see no point in selling Carroll to be honest. Not only do the club make a loss, but they sell a player who has been improving a hell of a lot of recent, and is starting to show some of his potential once again.}

09 Jul 2012 21:26:16
Players that need to be sold are: Spearing, Adam, Downing, Carroll and Henderson. Hopefully Brendan Rodgers will clear those average players out.

I would keep Henderson and Carroll because they are only young and have time to improve they were signed for potential and the future and not expected to be Gerrard class straight away so shouldn't be sold with only the time they've had give them time, remember Lucas. THEY NEED TIME! And Carroll was improving at the end of the season.

JW

Spearing, Adam, and to a lesser extent Downing I can kind of agree with, but to let Carroll and Henderson go would be very foolish I think. They are both very young, have quite a lot of potential, and we'd probably get nothing near what we paid for them at the moment.

They're not on huge wages either, so why not give them another year and see what they can do under a different manager? Perhaps they'll just surprise us all.

RDL

Wouldn't sell Carroll. You'd be making a loss. Plus if we can't control a game then he is a good option to have.

A question for the editors....
Aquallani has played only a handful of games for liverpool over the course of his contract so far.
Can we not cancel his contract due to him not having played the required number of games for us over a certain period? I know he has played for other clubs as part of a loan agreement but is there not something in the contract that allows the player, or the club to cancel the contract if he plays less than 10% of games for his parent club over say 2 years?
Thanks...
Also, could the club not insert a clause into all loan to buy deals with our players that states that if the buying club decide not to buy they player then they have to pay an additional loan cost of say 2 million pounds.
The whole aqua situation pisses me off to be honest.
Very good player.... we've paid his wages for 3-4 yrs (loans excluded) and now the agent is spouting off about "we need liverpool to make up their minds quickly".... He cant be that good an agent can he.... his client has spent his life on Loan! ffs...
Sorry for the rant but we needed aquallani last season in our midfield.
If the lad has any pride he should stay 1 season and give it his all for those who have made him rich....
jonnybarnes89-90 {Ed022's Note - Unfortunately his contract was done by H+G. We cannot insert a contract, or have a clause activated etc without having to pay him a shed load of money.}

Eds,have liverpool had a bid rejected for Real Madrid midfielder Esteban Granero? {Ed022's Note - Not that I know of.}

bbc say were closing in on borini ed any truth?
lfclee {Ed022's Note - I'll only answer this once, but to be perfectly honest, I do not think this is true. Last I checked, Borini did not wish to move back to England, and was considering his options elsewhere. I still remain unconvinced of interest in Borini from Liverpool, but who knows, I may be wrong. To me it comes across like panic-journalism.}

Too much hype about Rodgers.
Just like Allardyce to Newcastle.

09 Jul 2012 20:47:22
From what I have heared, (and I take this rumour seriously) is that one of the players signing is Pedro of Barcelona. A friend of mine has spent a fair bit of time with Darren Burgess and is convinced that he let slip in conversation "Pedro will be a massive help". He then back tracked and said he was only joking, but my mate seemed pretty sure he just let the cat out of the bag.

Fingers crossed anyway.

Unbelievable but definitely is an exciting player that we would love to have in our team

09 Jul 2012 20:45:50
Dont You think when Rodgers said that "the fans will love him" it sounded like he knew the player well? Wouldnt be suprised if it was Borini

Was just about to post that !!
BR went on about the personality of incoming players has to be right and fit in with lfc and he made a big deal about this
His first signing will be someone he knows very well

The player/s we will sign within the next 2 weeks will be unfortunately not Ramirez but one or two of these 4:
A.Johnson
Krasic
Sturridge
Dempsey.

I know its not the world class £30 mill signing everyones wanting but it will take time.
My opinion Ramirez will decide where he will be going after the Olympics and i hope suarez helps convince him towards LFC's way.

Rodgers set to confirm signing of player by end of the week.

A soon to be iconic player that will signify to the media and fans alike; the abbition of LFC. A player whom encompasses the passion, ideals, style and vision Rodgers has planned to instill in the squad, to drag the club by the scruff of the neck up the table through the 4th barrier and into a bold new future.

That player kopites is none other than 'Iker Muniain' - take a bow son, take a bow.

Eds 02 and 06 in disagreement:

09 Jul 2012 17:41:31
{Ed006's Note - Carroll isnt going anywhere}
09 Jul 2012 17:03:03
{Ed002's Note - I made my views known on Carroll a while back. I would not be surprised to see him leave if an acceptable deal could be found.}

I guess only time will tell which one is correct!

LFCBrazil {Ed022's Note - Eds can have differing opinion/information mate, it's not exactly uncommon for people to disagree!}

I don't really see why only one of those two comments from the Ed's could be correct? As Ed002 said, he might could move if an acceptable deal is found, of which the corollary would be no acceptable being found = he's going nowhere, so therefore they are both correct.

09 Jul 2012 19:14:40
I would just like to say, that Dempsey at £7.5m would be good IF we can get Carroll out on loan to a top team like AC Milan. This way we get the best years out of Dempsey relatively cheap, Carroll can push on and become the complete centre forward Dempsey has proved he is ob=ver the last 2 years, and when Carroll returns, he can fight with Dempsey for his place and we will have a solid back-up in Dempsey.
I really don't want Carroll sold just yet as i think he will come good, and big forwards do suit the pass and move style as they bully defenders and make space for midfield runners. Dempsey is excellent with the ball at his feet and is very clinical, something we lack.
This whole post could be BS though because the Dempsey-->Liverpool stuff and the Carroll-->Milan stuff is just rumours.

Come the first game of the season, I'll be supporting whoever is in the squad.

YNWA! (Adam)

09 Jul 2012 19:14:06
Dempsey I can imagine, as he's filling Dirks spot, won't be on massive wages and can genuinely contribute from day one. But Kaka, is a former shadow of himself, through injury mostly. He's on massive wages, will still command a big fee and doesn't fit the bill in the slightest. Surely Ramirez would be seriously considered if Kaka is?

Hi, any chance of Mattia Destro, looks a top player and most of all a goal scorer, which is exactly what we need!, heard inter were sniffing round him though and there's the fact he's one of the hottest prospects in Italian football will mean he won't come cheap, but really looks a top, top player! Cheers! {Ed022's Note - No idea.}

Destro is co-owened by Siena and Genoa. Very good prospect but I do not see Liverpool being interested in him at present.

Adam johnson will be the signing that rodgers was referring to !

kopace

09 Jul 2012 20:04:58
Could very well be that the player Rodgers was referring to as "exciting" is no other than Fabio Borini from AS Roma. Now I know not everyone would describe Borini as "exciting", but the lot of you will be very suprised by his ability.

He's 21 years old, plays for an excellent Azzurri national team which is leaps and bounds better than the current English national side for example. He has pace to burn and is a natural finisher. He's also positionally versatile and can play as a wide forward or as a central forward poaching goals. I'm pretty sure he could learn false nine role with his football intelligence and technical ability aswell.

Rodgers has coached him extensively during his years as the Chelsea reserve manager and knows exactly what the player is capable of. Borini would be an excellent signing and fits the profile of a player that Liverpool are looking for. Now I don't know about you guys, but I'd be really excited if we signed him.

YNWA! {Ed022's Note - He's average. Sorry to be pessimistic, but he isn't anything special to be fair.}

When did he say exciting???
Watched the press conference twice after reading that in the mirror and didn't hear anything about an exciting.
The Mirror are extremely exaggerating what was said.

09 Jul 2012 20:04:56
Eds,
as this bbc reporter claims BR has said one potential signing will be very exciting,

Do we know if this exciting player will be the signing which will be completed this week or a later one?

Cheers

Phil F {Ed022's Note - The BBC claims it's Borini, but I haven't heard anything regarding him mate. Lazy journalism if you ask me, but I suppose it's possible.}

09 Jul 2012 20:02:57
After all I have said about Aquaman not returning to Liverpool I may eat my words after all.
I know someone at the club (staff not player) who is understands that Alberto has been impressed with the new setup and is taken back by the supportive comments of the fans. Rogers has told him that if he gives 100% he will be a first team regular.
I hope it's true personally, and if he and Cole did come back to the squad I can't see any reason to sign anyone but a winger and a striker as long as it's the right players.
Coates will be a big part of this season's team, and I for one look forward to seeing the guy at the Olympics.

09 Jul 2012 20:01:48
Reading between the lines the only signing to really make us happy is the return of XABI ALONSO !

Eds is there any interest in Kaka and could Dempsey be the 1st signing lots of rumours about him? {Ed022's Note - I have explained the situation with Kaka before. The only options for him at the moment are perhaps Spurs, and a move back to Brazil. Both involve a swap deal.}

09 Jul 2012 19:53:52

Its Alonso.

I've been in Madrid the last week on business (nothing to do with this obviously, its for the company I work with, anyway why I am here is irrelevant) and over the last week I have obviously just been interacting with some fans in Madrid as football is a worldwide game obviously, also I speak passable spanish, and they have been saying that there has been rumurs for a week or so about Alonso asking Madrid to let him move back to Liverpool. I dismissed it as usual bs and didnt get my hopes up

Anyway, was speaking to a lad today in the bar who works with the Castilla team, and he said that he had heard that Xabi was not reporting for training and over the last 24 hours or so rumours have been rife that Xabi is coming back to LFC and that he is due in Liverpool later this week.

Take with a pinch of salt ofcourse, but I am just passing on what is being said over here in Madrid

I am skeptikal or maby just cynical but i dont think they will let him leave but i would love for it to be true. STEMLOCC1

He wouldnt be due to report for training yet. Nice try but ill conceived!

Xabi is proabably still on holiday after the Euros mate. I'd be amazed if he had to report to training so quickly, after a major tournament.

Team I'd like to see next year:

1st:
--------------------Dempsey-------------------
Suarez--------------Gerrard-------------Ramirez
-----------Lucas--------------Alonso-----------
Enrique------Agger----------Skrtel------Johnson
---------------------Reina---------------------

Squad:
Doni, Jones, Kelly, Flanagan, Wilson, Carragher, Sama, Wisdom, Robinson, Coates, Henderson, Spearing, Shelvey, Suso, Adam, Cole, Maxi, Sterling, Downing, Bellamy, Sturridge, Pacheco

Loan Carroll to Milan for the season, plus a few short term loans from the squad maybe.
Sell:
Aquilani (HE DOESN'T WANT TO BE HERE!)
Kuyt (Gone)
Darby (Gone)
Amoo (Who?)
Ecclestone (Who?)

Quality, and young squad with great depth for the 4 competitions we'll be in next year.
19/25: O21's
17/12: Homegrown

Dempsey - £7.5m
Sturridge - £10m
Ramirez - £17m
Alonso - £18m

Just what I'd do. Hell, slaughter me if you want?

YNWA! (Adam)

18 million for a alonso at his age is a lot.

After Downing last year, 18m for Alonso is a bargain

Lots of poor rumour's on here and signing Clint Dempsey is certainly not a step in the right direction ! Let's wait and see what happens before jumping on the BS bandwagon. BR has a game plan and I am sure that the signings he will make will improve the team. I also agree that we have a good current squad that has underperformed so with 2-3 quality additions and the under performers over performing Top 4 is a possibility this year and a good base to kick on from. Granero would be a good signing as would Daniel Sturridge and news on these yet ED great site !

Apparently one of the signings set to take place this week is Borini. Again, not off my source, but just rumours. Perfectly possible because we are interested in him.

Personally, I reckon it's him and/or Sturridge the two players Rodgers is talking about.

Luis {Ed022's Note - Sturridge would surely fail a medical at the moment, so how could a deal be completed?}

Borini is just what we need. A fox in the box type striker. Someone we've needed for a while and crying out for all season.

Just a quick note on the current situation...

Like many people on this forum, I too am anxious to see what new quality our month-old Manager will bring to our beloved LFC...

But, am I the only throwback to the old days when we only found out about a new signing after the ink was dry on the contract and we had our man?

Given also the financial aspects now involved in Player signings (and agents hawking their players around from club to club to increase their wages/prices) are we not better showing a degree of patience and trusting that the the new guy knows what he is doing?

When all is said and done, I am more pleased that there is a wall of silence surrounding Anfield at the moment than there be a circus of potential signings paraded in the media... To my mind, it shows calmness, control and integrity from the management team which gives me a great deal of hope for the future of this great Institution that we call Liverpool Football Club.

A Humble Request to Macca and the Eds!

Can you please try and find out if possible who Rodgers might be talking about of signing this week?

Thanks,

According to the LFC website, that quote; ''Corriere dello Sport claim that Liverpool are to mount a €22m (£17m) bid for Fiorentina attacker Steven Jovetic as Brendan Rodgers looks to improve the Merseyside club's attacking options''.

The same website also claims talks are under way between AC Milan and us for the sale of Andy Carroll, claiming he doesn't fit into Rodgers style of football (which seems to mirror the vibe I got from Rodger's press conference), and see him as a direct replacement for the outgoing Ibrahimovic. I couldn't find anything on the website (nor Galezza delio sport) on us being linked with Fabio Borini. My question to the eds is 'Is the source of information regarding a player more reliable coming from the country the player plays in? It seems that the only people linking us with Borini are our national newspapers, and nothing from Italy. If so, then there would be an element of truth in the Jovetic case, but the Borini case could be disproved. Thanks.

Where is Ibrahimovic going?

PSG or Man City apparently. Just telling you what the Italian sports sight said.

Frustrating as a fan, but I have to admire the Liverpool way of business under FSG, even regarding the appointment of Rodgers to signings of new players, no one outside of the club knows anything.

Did anyone watch Spain today and how did suso play as I think he is going to be a star. Thanks jc.

I did, and boy was I impressed.

In my opinion, everything good about Spain came through him. Spain were just passing it short to eachother, but when Suso got the ball he's always looking forward and plays the right pass.

Some very nice passes with the outside of the foot and he hit the bar with a free kick. Looked a bit tired before getting taken off, he wasn't moving in the spaces as much as at the start of the match. I am sure this is down to his schedule though. We have a real gem on our hands lads!

09 Jul 2012 17:21:47
Our first signing will be Estaban Granero of real madrid and then we will make a 15m move for Ramirez who is good friends of Luis Suarez YNWA!

Rodgers said exciting and fans would love him I don't really think Granero is any of that. Good squad player maybe but that's about it.

I think it would be one or the other I expect a central mid a right winger and a forward.

Personally I rate Sturridge as I think he's got abit of flair and has scored goals when played centrally earlier in the season, and for 10m it would be a good capture. However I feel Soldado should be our number one striking target as I have said before and then go for Sturridge if it fails.

E.H LFC

Soldado signed a 5 year deal with Valencia last month stating he wanted to end his career with them. don't think he'll be playing in red any time soon mate...

I would keep Carroll for atleast one more season, he has started to come good... I think he will only get better and he brings somthing different when things are not going our way. I belive it would be a mistake to sell him now...

Agree, unless offer of 25 million came in and we could use all that cash for buying another player!

Not if we sold him and spent the money on Luuk De Jong and Jordan Rhodes.
Goals guaranteed instead of waiting for Andy to come good.
I estimate Andy at his best would struggle to get 15 goals a season.
kidmillions

Waiting for him to come good ?? getting us into the cup final and giving us 1 and a bit goals in the fa cup final dominating the last game at chavski and putting in Stella performances for England . I would say the waiting is over old boy

He scored 10 goals for Newcastle in half a season... you do the math.
And that was his first season in the league.

Ed, great site, im on most days, no disrespect to you or any other posters but, all these rumours being flown around, but after watching the Rodgers interview in him saying he wont leak any targets, how do all these rumours start and how do people get this information unless youve got a source inside the club. Ive just been thinking sorry if i am underestimating what you do actually know, im just intreeged.

I'm thinking also, if you are privileged enough to have this information as gospel, why would you risk that privilege by leaking information?

I wonder how long it will be before everyone starts saying that when Rodgers said they will be a signing by the end of the week its a smokescreen.

09 Jul 2012 17:05:36
Don't be surprised if the first signing is someone that no one has been talking about on this site or somebody that the Eds have consistently said we didn't have a chance at. I don't believe Rogers when he says there is not a boatload of money available. I think the owners are prepared to foot the bill if the right player is available.

Also, Rogers is looking for players that can play his system. There is one player named Xabi Alonso that knows that system very well. He certainly would excite the supporters. Just saying.

So would half the barcelona team. Doesn't mean he's the one.

"Dont be suprised if"..
I am going to be suprised either way fella... Because I know nothing about our targets for the summer... I have not got a dickie bird... Nada. Nothing to offer... ZIP.

After watching Brengun today one thing i did notice is he looked as though certain aspects of his philosophy had all ready been decided on,in as much when quizzed by the media speaking about the italian kid AA he simply varified in the most subtle way that he was impressed with AAs attributes leading me to believe that the midfield has made his mind up about transfers, obviously any purchase at this moment is going to be vital, but i get the feeling that now he will turn his attention to strikers. As i se it there is a wealth of talent in our midfield if this includes Aquillani and Joe Cole,Rodgers has admitted we are on a modest budget meaning all this speculation about 25 to 35 million pound options can be put to the side,it is what it is.Rodgers has obviously sees what he likes and the players who dont fit will be bin bagged.

No one in their right mind is going to go around saying they've got bucketloads of money to buy players.

He keeps mentioning that we havnt got buckets of money to keep transfer target fees realistic , i bleive we might spend big on a couple of gems...only what i was told !

Got a really good feeling about BR it seems to me like the owners have done there homework and installed a man with integrity and purpose especially after what BR said below earlier today;

"This is a club which is a way of life, it is not just a club where you turn up for two hours' training and then go away," added the 39-year-old at a press conference to publicise the club's pre-season tour to the United States.

"You have to be prepared to come into the culture and philosophy of the club and if you don't then it's not a problem but this is not the right fit for you.

"I want players that are hungry to succeed and want to match the ambitions of how we want to move forward and the reality of that is there are very few players who can match that.

"I don't just want to identify a player and then let them come in at whatever cost.

"One of the things which distorts the reality of football is money.

"I don't see the sense of a player coming in if we have to pay over the odds for him.

"There are many good players out there but not many who have the courage and bravery to play the way we want to."

This is a breath of fresh air in a game where most footballers are only really happy warming a bench and picking up a fat pay packet, I really hope BR continues where he left off at Swansea and turns Liverpool back to where we belong as a team of players who play for the badge....

Curled1

Wow that's just wot I want to here ,I'm glad his so down to earth about money ,that means hopefully we get value for money ,and not be bullyed by agents, players ,clubs, and deffo not clubs from Italy ,Liverpool in good hands

Hay ed's.. Great site! I've been following all the rumours daily ons this site and some other sites! The way I see it no one really knows who we are looking at apart from BR and he's crew! Moving on to the carrol rumour I don't think we should look to loan him! If milan want him they should pay atleast 20mil or he stays! I would also welcome dempsey and affeley for 7mil each ! Seems we not moving for ramirez so I expect a playmaker we havn't been linked for yet.. I would love someone like dzagoev or moutihno playing behind suarez!

I do not have a source, but Clint Dempsey does not feature in any of Fulham's training grounds pics this week. He did not feature in any additional games over the summer, and has not been selected for the USA Olympic team next month either.

Along with Rodgers saying we hope to sign someone very soon, a supposed 'exciting' player... two and two together might equal our 1st summer signing.

hi eds im not saying this is going to happen more of a question

with BR saying hopefully 1 or 2 by end of week and Clint Dempsey not going to training could he be potentially one of them as we have been heavily linked?

Also do you know if Gaston got picked for Uruguay Olympic squad, because if he so i couldn't really see him being the player...

Also the last question have you heard anything about the goal nets going back to red.

Would love it if you replied.

Ramirez was picked for the Uruguayan Olympic squad...

Liverpool are closing in on a £8m move for Ibrahim Afellay. Rodgers is also looking at Etienne Capoue, Gary Hooper and Gaston Ramirez. Aquilani,Cole,Spearing and Maxi are all facing the chop and could follow Dirk Kuyt and Fabio Aurelio out the exit door.

09 Jul 2012 15:59:27
So, Rogers says "the reality is we've only made three or four enquires about players."

From the information we have been given by Macca and just general rumours, I think there is a good chance that this list contains:

Borini
Allen
Ramirez

I guess we will know soon enough; "we hopefully can close out one deal this week, maybe two."

Source: LFC

Would only want Ramirez from those three the other two are average at best!

09 Jul 2012 15:56:27
BR is spot on with the attitude he wants the players to have. I think maybe he can get the best from Aqua and Cole. Before we signed them both were extremely good players. If BR can get those two to knuckle down, compete and fight for a place then we could have a couple of gems. Thank god Lucas is back in training. I remember when he had a few torrid seasons 99% of fans (me included) thought he was a joke. But he is an immense player now and if Aqua or Cole can come good after their dreadful displays for our previous managers then I would be happy. Some have had enough of Alberto, i wanted him off the wage books and would accept a small fee but if BR can get him to play then he is a talent. Maybe too little too late but id rather he came good than just proved to be a waste of money.

For Carroll to be even considered to go out on loan by LFC then Rodgers would have to have someone really special lined up.

However I really can't see LFC sending him out on loan, it would be pointless and a bit embarrassing considering how much he cost.

I can see Milan asking though. I would tell them where to go.

I can see Carroll having a really good season with us.
he looked unstoppable towards the end of last season.

MIKEY

I agree MIKEY mate. Especially the way Milan messed us around with Aquilani. I would tell them were to go too mate.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

The Milan deal for AA was a mutual thing, both clubs agreed to it, and both knew the criteria.
So its pointless to criticise Milan.
Fact: We bought Aquilani, we knew the risks, if we didn't do our homework then who is really to blame.

It might be a bit funny seeing big Andy at Milan and trying to communicate. I mean he is still trying to speak English ffs.lol

The Irish Rover

If you did your homework unnamed poster. Then you would have known like I do. Aquilani only had 1-2 games to play for Milan and the clause we had with them would have activated. Then Milan refused to play him in the last few games of the season, so they didn't have to sign him.

If I were BR and Milan wanted Doni on loan. I would still tell them were to go, and they want a 35 mill striker? Lol

Putting one and one together, last year we had Kuyt, Bellamy, Carrol and Suarez up front. Dirk is gone, Craig, and Luis will be at the Games. So that leaves only Andy for pre-season and Euro League qualifiers. So, even if our guys come back healthy from the London Games we are a still going to be short (!) up front. So, one of the new signings HAS to be a forward, right (I know I shouldn't ask!)?

Canadian Fan

HAS to be a forward, who is NOT going to the Olympics!

Ever since he was publicly humiliated at St James's Park against Newcastle at the end of the season he's been a different man. He moved on and started getting his desire back. We'd be mad to let him go now.

I said this last season, namely that I can't see Suarez staying at LFC.

Its just inevitable I suppose.

Who has been sold to make you think you have been proved right?

Suarez will leave LFC eventually but you need to get a grip it wont be this season, if Rodgers talks to the players like he talks to the press we wont be losing any players they will all want to play for him for at least a season.

Just been robbed of £40 in buying the new shirt.
Fits nicely but it's cheap isn't it.
Never mind I still feel 10 feet tall wearing it. :)
Like I said when it was revealed the flames and 96 on the neck make it special, it's the last thing the players will see when taking it off it's hook and putting it on, hopefully that little bit of inspiration will spur the players on this season and get us a few extra goals/points.

MIKEY

I think the adult home shirt is a good cut with a good old Skool look, but the baby and toddlers kits look like, they came straight out of fast eddies suit case on paddys market,so my boy is sporting the black training top this season!

I spent the equivalent of £40 on Valentine's Day. I felt robbed as well, but was made to feel about 3 feet tall by my gf. So, I think it's a very good return on your investment, Mickey.

From LFC.com
"For players to be associated with Liverpool is great, but the reality is we've only made three or four enquires about players and we hopefully can close out one deal this week, maybe two.

"We're certainly hopeful we can do one and then look to add to it over the course of the pre-season.

"I will never speak about targets and possible players. It's not something I like to do. All I will say is there has been a whole raft of players linked with coming to Liverpool, and there are very, very few of them that are actually real targets for us."

Rodgers added: "Initially, it's just about assessing the group, the squad and looking at the strengths, which you never know entirely until you come in. The pre-season is a little bit broken this year because of players being away for the championships and recovering.

"But certainly, come the beginning of the season I hope to have the squad that we can take through. Obviously after August, that's it through until January. It'll be a case of piecing it together through until then and building a squad that can hopefully compete at the top end of the league. That's ideally what I want to do."

09 Jul 2012 15:10:40
I know this isn't much to go by but with things not overly sure over andy carroll's future and with BR saying he might bring in 1 new player this week supposedly one that will excite the LFC fans. Could Fernando Llorente be an option or maybe munian?

09 Jul 2012 15:08:29
Eds, I may be off on this, but it seems to me that Rodgers wants to have at least one player come in this week on order to go on the pre-season tour with the team. Ramirez has had much speculation around him these last few weeks, but given that he is on the Uruguay olympic squad and unavailable to go on the pre-season tour, it makes me think that the signing(s) that Rodgers referenced in his press conference is not Ramirez. Make sense or am I missing something?

BR probably wants to sign whoever before going on tour so that he wouldn't have to deal with whilst away on tour

Watching Suso live on Eurosport. He's looking good lads.

Ah...what a thing to say,

"Ben Smith, Off camera, Rodgers said #LFC fans would find one potential new player 'incredibly exciting' - 'they'll love him'"

We're ALL going to be filled with expectation and over-excitement now, over a possible signing.

Hope it comes off, whomever it may be, hope it's not just Sturridge though, personally not an exciting signing for me, and not the team player who will live and breath Liverpool.

Interested to see the Boss, when asked about Aquilani, said words to the effect of, 'a great guy very skillful, but Liverpool players must also have the steel and desire to play for the club.' That sounds like he will not be around for much longer to me.

In regards to big Andy, he did skirt around questions of if he'd be staying, but I think he was being deliberately cautious. If there was ever a player in the squad he needs to see train/play for himself, Carroll is it. Does he have the touch and technical ability to get into Rodgers' side, to play Rodgers' system? Time will tell. But, don't expect a full season for Carroll to prove himself, if Carroll doesn't show his emerging form, I think January we may see him leave.

I would not be surprised to see Cole and Maxi stay for now to begin to implement a quick, one touch inter-passing style. Will be fascinating to see who Rodgers considers good enough to play for LFC, as he has said there are not many players in the world that can come to Anfield and make the difference.

Really can't wait for it all to get started.

Here's to a better season, a new cutting edge in our play and more points on the board.

Kez

YNWA

I do not think Andy is going anywhere he want renting Steven Gerrards old house and now he has bought it. Can't remember the proce but I think it was around 3 million. It is round the corner from where I live. Surely you would not spend that much if you were leaving.

Isn't Sturridge hospitlised with Menegitis(spelling) at present? Eds

{Ed006's Note - Currently, yes. I don't think we will sign him anyway.}

09 Jul 2012 15:05:37
I know the doomers and gloomers still have a problem with BR but after watching another press conference from him i cant help but feel inspired! So he says there is no bottomless pit of money?? There may be not 100s of millions but i think thats a tactic to let selling clubs know they cant have us over a barrel like in the past!

Mike

Talk is cheap, let's see some action!.
He has a lot to prove!.

09 Jul 2012 14:58:04
Are Milan serious with this 12 month loan deal they are weighing up for Andy Carroll. After the Aquilani saga would Rodgers fall for the same trick again?

I imagine a paper shredder will be placed directly below the fax machine just in time for that "offer".

MIKEY

Sure, they can pay us £35m for the loan deal, then its done.
Cheeky damn b*stards!.

Next 2 will be Allen and hopefully Ramirez (50/50)
Getting mixed info Carroll/Borini

Carrol is far better than borini.

hi eds/macca

below is a quote from BR:

"The reality is we have only made three or four enquiries about players and hopefully can close out one deal this week which will be a real exciting one for the club, one the supporters will absolutely love."

I know you're gonna anticipate the question but will ask it anyways - do you know who this may be?

cheers

Ben Smith from BBC said on twitter (@BenSmithBBC) that Rodgers off camera said LFC fans would find one potential new player 'incredibly exciting'- 'they'll love him'.
Check it out if you like - Not many mentioned on here fit that bill unless it is an Alonso/Xavi type player!

Also - don't read too much into the money situation Rodgers mentions - I mean he's not really going to say we have buckets of money to spend is he as all the negotiations at the moment would be affected.

Different point-well done pearce standing up to brand Beckham.Finished as a player for years.Picking and announcing what he expects to be involved in.Lads been a model not footballer for 7 years now.Got about 30 caps too many. How many swansongs does he need? Though'The lovely'Lord Coe'said he'd find de dums a role.He had 0ne good foot, excellent at set pieces. No pace, couldnt head or tackle.Done well with talent he had,and well re.Olympic bid involvment. But now its time to be grateful lad, stop bleating and fade away(like someone close to you lol-oohh)

So tired of Beckham and his 'stick wife'.
Glory seeking b**tards.

Yeah, totally agree with you on this, beckham has been finished for years, a very overated player, as for miserable spice, she's a ugly cow, face like a smacked arse

09 Jul 2012 14:29:28
Dear Eds, I was wondering if you knew how BR conducted his transfers for swansea? What I mean by that is that did he sign players people expected him to sign or did he sign players who no one had mentioned. {Ed005's Note - I don't think it is relevant mate in all honesty. Liverpool do their business behind closed doors and we will target the players we want regardless of what the media say. If it is a player we expect or not it doesn't really matter.}

09 Jul 2012 14:26:02
Oh look guys! The transfer window closes in about 53 days! we are so screwed!!

Yip, but when does the season start!.

Would like to see some 'new players' arrive sooner than later.
We have some tough opening fixtures in August, and likely Suarez will not be available.
We need to get moving!.

09 Jul 2012 14:20:51
Who do you think are first signing will be coz b.r said he hope to sign someone this week ? I think it will be borini

The fact that he said that we will love him tells me said nplayer is from barca or real im thinking affelay,alonso,kaka..oooh like a glove

Cavani

09 Jul 2012 14:17:27
Positive looks like 1 if not 2 signings imminent. And maybe 1/2 more later in window. However if Dempsey is to be believed i find that odd.As Sigurdsson would have a sell on value and likelyhood is Dempsey wouldnt cos've age.Surely contradicting Fenways policy and Brendans words re.market value.Again Sturridge like Dempsey may or not be a target. But others alledgedly in for Sturridge with rumoured starting bids low.Surely we would be interested in low price and guy who fits Fenways apparent young and sell on criteria. Now this is all conjecture and talk at Mo'.But if comes to fruition,ie.Dempsey, you'ld then have to question the lines were being fed.A view thats all,no need to bulldog terrier me apart lol

09 Jul 2012 14:32:07
Cavani in and Carroll out? who knows.

Would be wonderful.

09 Jul 2012 13:52:05
Having watched that press conference I don't think Carroll will be here come the 18th of August (purely my opinion based on the way Rodgers answered the questions)

09 Jul 2012 13:48:14
am i the only one thats more excited about the junk we get rid of this year more than who we buy

09 Jul 2012 13:46:23
just read the interview with Rodgers about hoping to tie up one or two transfer deals before they head off for pre season, he's stated he hasn't announced any specific targets so this doesn't really give any help to who these signings could be, with all the targets being thrown into the frame, if he hasn't announced any specific targets could it be that the signings will be people that haven't been discussed? personally i cant see any signings being done that have been discussed other than maybe Dempsey and krasic and maybe gaston ramirez but tbh I don't even think anyone knows where the ramirez transfer is at the moment with all the different rumours going around. dempsey is coming onto his last year of his contract i think, so the negotiations will be quick if he tells fulham he wants to leave and wont sign a new contract, rumours of a fee anywere between 6-10 million, he will be 30 soon so i would not pay 10 million for him. i think krasic could be around the same price and he would be a great buy for money, eds where do you think needs improving and can you see the style of football Rodgers wants to fit in with Liverpool?

09 Jul 2012 13:45:25
Brendan Rodgers statement "we haven't got barrels full of money, not the sort being banded around anyway" (or something like that)

I'm glad he said that. It doesn't worry me at all, in fact at least now when we're trying to sign a player hopefully they won't have an extra few million put on their asking price just because we're Liverpool.
I think we've shown in the Sigurdsson discussions (or lack of) that we won't be bullied or manipulated into paying over the odds anymore.

I think that was a clever answer from Rodgers. I'd be concerned if he said, "the owners have given me a blank cheque"

Joe

Well, that means we may have to 'sell to buy'.
So, he's playing all would-be suitors, come on, make us a good offer.
Clearly we need some cash to buy.

09 Jul 2012 14:13:12
Adding further to what was said at the conference earlier,Rodgers also said (off camera infront of us all) that the fans would be ''very excited'' as to who one of the potential targets could be.He was also asked by someone as he left would LFC be interested in Michael Owen.He just smiled.I take it he is just too polite not to laugh...

09 Jul 2012 13:43:09
Ed you know what i have missed this transfer window so far, smoke screens!

Smoke screen - is this a smoke screen saying you have missed the smokescreens when in fact you are throwing up a smokescreen to disguise the fact that there are no smokescreens or that there really is a smokescreen or two - i think

09 Jul 2012 13:42:11
Granero is the most likely option i reckon anyone no what he is actually like though

He is good but not excellent. Better than adam and aqualani. Granero has a good shot ,can pass and tackle well. Could be a good buy, definitely an improvement.

Based on a combo of reliable info (Macca & Ed002) and common sense, the most likely arrivals are:

Dempsey
Krasic
Allen
Granero

Esteban Granero is the latest rumour that could possibly be the signing this week? Do we really need another average midfielder unproven, when its an area of the pitch we have already enough average midfielders adams, henderson, spearing and lucas when fit to return. Gerrard needs quality players to surround him and provide better service to Carroll and Suarez or we will definitly slip further away from the top 4 - 5 teams in the country.... could you advise of quality players we might be looking at Dempsey and Sinclair are at least premership proven players!!

Great site

Concerned Fan

Average midfielder?? He is better than charlie adam n spearing put together. N he has played at the highest level, which can only be good for us. Plus he would not cost more than 8 million. The only reason why he does not make madrid's 1st team is coz of alonso n khedira, who r both world class.

I must say the more i listen to what BR has to say the more the guy is growing on me, he is very astute with the media which is good and something i wished KK would have been helped with last year, i think we are in for a good couple of seasons and as long as we stick by him and the team we'll do really well, this guy is the real deal.

09 Jul 2012 12:59:37
There are some differences to our squad last season compared to this.
1. Downing and Carroll will surely have a better season than last
2. Henderson, Kelly, Coates, and Shelvey have more experience.
3. Lucas and Gerrard will be available all season
4. Cole and Aquillani will be available, if not for a first team place but to put pressure on other squad members.
5. Some of our better youngsters will be a bit older and may get a chance this year.
6. This new manager will have better tactics than Kenny (although a LFC Legend, he proved the job was beyond him at this stage in his life)

I don't think it impossible we won't make any signings, we probably will, but things are not looking as bad as some posters on here think.
Lets look forward to the next season and don't write us off before we actually kick a bloody ball, lets get behind the team and not slag them off (Like Lucas first season, some so called fans were disgraceful, and still are)

Big Bill, LFC

How do you know Lucas and Gerrard will be available all season ?

With psychic powers like that you should do the lottery .

Lucas has already confirmed that he wont be ready for the opening game but '' hopes to play some part this season '' .

To all those people who believe that we will not sign anyone of decent qaulity. To all those people who are saying that it is already 9 days in to the window and we havnt signed anyone. To all those people who slate the eds. And finally to all those people who post questions that were answered already that day, and couldnt be bothered searching beofre asking, please just dissapear and make the rest of the users of site happy.
Im fed up of pessimists saying we wont sign anyone, or its already 9 days in and we havnt signed anyone. The club are taking their time assessing the right players, id prefer to do that than go out and buy someone blindly.
Im fed up of people hounding the eds, when they do such a great job running a site that so many of us check every single day, such as myself. If your unhappy at the standard or running of the site, why dont you just go away and stop wasting our time with your constant moaning.
I am happy with how things are progressing, and will be happy to see how we do in pre-season. I want us to sign someone, but I dont see why we must rush into a tricky market for no other reason than to please a minority of impatient and simply fickle fans.

I step off my soap box again now, thank you eds, thank you regular posters who appreciate the effort made by other genuine posters and the effort made by the eds, who trawl through our thousands upon thousands of queries every week.
(Please post on rumours, as i dont think the 'trolls' will have the intiative to go to banter page, and will therefore not receive my seething attack upon the posts, haha)

According to journalist Ben Smith, after the press conference the gaffer said Liverpool fans will be extremely excited about one of the targets we are after. Any ideas Ed?
Rumours around that real turned down an initial bid for a player. Kaka, Alonso??

Gav the Red

PS don't know if anyone else thought this, but Rogers wasn't exactly talking Carrol up when asked about potential loan move to Milan.

I get the feeling from his interview Carroll is probably one of the players that he feels needs to step and in the meantime he will consider letting him go if a offer is made.

Sorry for the copy and paste:

This comes from SSN and hopefully will give people something to go off:

'' 'Asked if he expected to have completed a signing before the Reds head to the States, Rodgers told sly News HD: "We hope so. There certainly won't be as many as has been labelled out.

"I think the reality is that for players to be associated with Liverpool is great, but the reality is that we have only made three or four enquiries about players.

"Hopefully we can close out one deal this week, maybe two.

"Hopefully we can do one and then look to add to it over the course of pre-season."

Reports have suggested that Esteban Granero is a top target for Rodgers, with one approach for the Real Madrid midfielder having already been knocked back.

The new boss at Anfield is keeping his cards close to his chest, though, and will not be drawn on the finer details of his summer shopping list.

He added: "I will never speak about targets or possible players, it's not something I like to do.

"All I will say is that there has been a whole raft of players linked with coming to Liverpool and there is very few of them that are actual targets for us." ''

I personally think one is Gaston Ramirez and one will be a Brazilian. Judging from filtering through the rumours on here - the replies of the ED's and a couple of friends I have at Liverpool Uni and what they have ''gotten wind off''.

No actual source though and the former is from SSN.

Cheers.

After watching player of the season just now I feel optimistic! We played some brilliant football with a little luck and Lucas and Agger fit, Carrol in form and Suarez not banned for 8 important matches midway through the season we can get where we wanna be.... I dont think we have to spend big on big names maybe Sturridge I'd be happy with, Adam and possibly spearing I wouldnt miss to much oh and a out an out RW Holiet would be good but are we all forget how brilliant Stevie G's crosses are from that side?
Possible to old to be legging it up and down a wing but if we have nothing else I'd be happy

Chin up Reds better times to come
Posivitly Red!

We need world class player's to challenge! I seriously think FSG have not got the money to get those player's! Look's like a long summer and season! Not very optimistic!

09 Jul 2012 13:20:38
Ed, I was just wondering what your opinion on the press conference and Rogers cagey reaction to the Carroll questions. He didn't seem to confirm Carrolls position at the club. Personally I would rather Carroll stayed because I think he can only get better, and he was showing some promising signs at the end of last season, what does everyone else think? Would you rather he stayed or he went?
{Ed002's Note - I am on a train and did not see it.}

This appears to have been over-hyped to generate a reaction. Clearly worked. He hasn't even met with him yet, let alone seen him in training. Not saying there isn't a chance of him leaving, but I do find it rather difficult to take anything a Berlusconi says seriously. Who else has he been linked with?

JF

Ye but would you rather he stayed or left

I would rather leave that decision to the manager. I like Carroll, but if BR has other ideas then that's fine.

Am I the only one who is fed up of hearing that "the manager needs time to assess the current squad" as an excuse for not bringing in new faces. Its not difficult just look at last seasons stats = job done.

Villas Boas didn't hang around - Vertonghen, Sig etc. A decent manager knows who the good players are and where they will fit in. I beleive BR is a decent manager so whats going on?

There is a problem at Liverpool when it comes to getting players in. The club spends month/years scouting the globe for talent only to let them go to other teams without even bidding most of the time.

The list is endless of current EPL players the club had chances to buy - Nasri (before AFC), Aguero, Silva, A Johnson, Mata, P Jones, A Young, Modric & Bale (before Spurs), Cliche etc, etc.

If what I am hearing is true then we can expect no better than - Dempsey/Moses/Borini, all good players but not good enough to take LFC up to top 4.

I love LFC hence the frustration, I except we are not mega rich and cannot compete at the top table money wise but surely we can compete with Spurs/Arsenal/Newcastle.

I am becoming more convinced that our owners are more interested in the business side than putting the club back at the top.
Mr Henry, just imagine the revenue the club would generate from being English Premiership Champions.....

OH GOD! Some fans are really hopeless.

Corvin

AVB did not made those signing. It was Levy who made them.

I do not believe vetonghen or sig was avb signings

Gljosh

Villas-boas had nothing to do with vertonghen or sig. they were signed before he arrived.

^ Well if Levy did do those signing's he's a chairman who do'es not let the grass grow under his feet! What's our chairman doing? Waiting for Brendan Rodger's to assess the squad he already has! Everyday i'm losing faith in FSG!

To the comment about our chairman doing nothing:

I cannot believe that you want our chairman to go around the manager and sign players for him simply because he hasn't got a player by the 9th of July. That is absolute nonsense.

Besides, the owner/chairman signing players he wants instead of the one the manager wants at Chelsea hasn't always worked and there's good chance the same will happen if Levy keeps it up at Spurs.

- Something Red -

09 Jul 2012 13:07:28
Just seen most of the press conference, and BR - what a guy! Admittedly I wasn't impressed at all when I heard he was to be our new manager, but over the last few weeks I have been filled with confidence.

All those people banging on about how he has done nothing whilst CFC, Spurs etc are signing the world really need to wind their necks in - BR said himself that he hopes to have one or two new players tied up by the time the squad go to the US, if not by the end of this week. As if he would just sit back and do nothing. The way people go on, it's almost as if they think BR wants to do badly and be sacked after six months!
BR is rated highly by some of the greatest football managers in the world - one being the guy who team just won the Euros with tactics so tight he barely used strikers. This is really saying something about our guy. He's like a fresh, young version of Dalglish (manager-wise), with an excellent understanding of the modern game, but with the club in his heart.

Things are being done just as we want them to be, behind closed doors! We pride ourselves on the fact that LFC don't tell the world about who we intend to sign, or who we have targetted, yet people come on here and give the eds hell because they can't predict the exact dates and times that players will be signed, and then further to that give them even more because we're not signing team world.

Have some faith and calm down guys, and thanks for your hard work Eds :-)

09 Jul 2012 13:05:57
Really sounded like Andy Carroll isn't part of BR's plans. When asked about the links to AC Milan he said...

..He's a good player so he'll be linked with clubs like that, be he here or somewhere else...

The reporter then asked if Andy is part of his plans and he starting talking about it not being about that now, now is all about assessing the squad....he had spoken with Andy and Andy knows exactly where he stands etc.

this after going on and on about Luas and Spearing and the inportant roles they will have at the club.

Fitzy

I agree Fitzy, I got the feeling that BR wasn't too sure about big Andy, so it wouldn't be a huge suirprise to see something happen there. Overall BR handled the press conference exceptionally. I for one am extremely happy he's our manager and have full faith that things will move along nicely. Whoever he signs will imrove the squad, but even top 4 etc probably wouldn't satisfy some of the oul gurny bakes on here. Some of our 'fans' have become pretty ridiculous with the extent of their moaning. Begone, i'm sure chelsea need some rent a fans for this season.

sorry for cut and paste but sly sports reporting
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers claims to be close to bringing at least one fresh face into his squad, but is reluctant to reveal the identity of his targets.

The Reds are readying themselves for a pre-season tour of North America and hope to have extra bodies on board before they jet off.

Rodgers is confident he will have bolstered his ranks prior to Liverpool's departure, with it possible that two acquisitions could be made.

Asked if he expected to have completed a signing before the Reds head to the States, Rodgers told sly News HD: "We hope so.

"All I will say is that there has been a whole raft of players linked with coming to Liverpool and there is very few of them that are actual targets for us."

hi eds,

Who do you think potential transfers would be more drawn by BR or KD? and do you think BR was the best man for the job?

{Ed002's Note - Rodgers is his own man.}

And kenny is not? {Ed002's Note - Dalglish has gone and I suspect no longer defining the transfer policy.}

sorry for the copy and paste.

There certainly won't be as many as has been labelled out.

Just watching the BR press conference and it appears my feelings that several of the "rumours" on here have no truth behind them. Also to me implies that we are looking at Gannero and that the Carroll to Milan rumours may have some legs. he certainly didn't do much to imply that He was a big part of our plans. 1 or 2 signings hoped to tie up this week. Interesting few days. Really liking his handling of everything so far tho. good luck Brendan.

Just watched Brendan Rodgers on LFC tv and he said where going to try and have one or two new signings by the end of this week.I wonder who they are.He also said we havent got lots of money to spend.

I didnt hear the very little money bit!

09 Jul 2012 12:36:13
Just been watching the press conference on LFC tv. Rodgers said that they hope to tie up one deal this week and possibly two before going on the US tour but he only expects at most three or four signings to tweak the group. No names mentioned at all, one jurno asked about Granero but he replied by saying that he refused to discuss targets publicly and there had only been three or four inquiries made for players and not the vast number that the press make out.

Rodgers will decide between Gaston Ramirez or Antoine Griezmann by the end of the week.

It might be to late for both of them at the end of the week?

[Not Liverpool related]. The terry trials have started today. I wanted to know a couple of things ed. How strong a case is it against him? and if found guilty what will be the punishment. I read somewhere that he'll get a 2.5 oounds, which is ridiculously low.

True Red {Ed002's Note - I have no idea how strong the case is but the maximum fine is, as you say, £2.5k.}

Eds do you see the Fergie Association (FA) to impose a ban as well?

Realistic red {Ed022's Note - They will have to.}

09 Jul 2012 12:32:22
Ok Eds,

So based on the press conference, there is a huge possibility that 1 or 2 potential signings could be concluded before the end of the week. Great news indeed.

Despite not knowing who the signings could be, we could be looking at closure on signings of Ramirez and Allen. Would be a splendid way to start the transfer market for L'POOL.

Let's just keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best Eds.

Heard the following : Allen, Sinclair and Borini only. If you put Sigurdsson intot he equation also seems that Rodgers cannot look past ex Swansea and reading players. As a life long LFC fan - I'm a bit scared for the future.

Maybe you heard wrong.

BR and FSG are not stupid and will not be rushed into buys that dont benefit the club as a whole.

09 Jul 2012 10:48:11
One point that seems to have been missed by the Sky generation is that sometimes a new manager comes into a club and inspires even the most ordinary of players to perform at a level way above their standard. Rodgers has already done that to a degree with Swansea, so I suggest giving the guy a chance to implement his philosophy.

09 Jul 2012 10:45:35
Why are most of the posts so negative about our players especially Hendo, Spearo, Adam, Downing, and to a lesser degree Carroll. These players need our support, not jeers. Sometimes, its better for us to wait and give BR the time to assess the squad, and offload those he deems unfit for LFC going forward. He may feel that others need to be shipped out , and other for loan to get more gametime and experience elsewhere. BR said the squad is competitive and needs 3 0r 4 additions in areas he feels are weak. Lets give him time to do his job. Some players take more time to adapt to new environments and certain players are only good when employed to tactics that suits their strengths. Hendo and Adam where mostly employed as defensive midfielders but at previous clubs they were in more advanced positions playing in free roles. Who knows they may prove us wrong under a new Manager with different tactics.

Mos

Because it is easy to come onto a forum such as this and write the most nasty, cruel, heartless and spiteful rubbish about our players and then when they start to play well come back on and say 'they proved me wrong'.

I saw it last year with Carroll when people were writing atrocious things about him at the start of the season, but then when his form returned, they said he had proved them wrong. As if those few words had made up for the masses of abusive they and many others had served before.

It still amazes me that no-one seemed to have learnt from the story of Lucas - who was ridiculed in his first few seasons but is now one of our most important players.

JRG

To the original poster! All the negative post's concerning those named player's are for one thing! their last! And the sooner we get rid the better!

Can i just say its not about signing another bunch of average players. Its about signing two maybe three top quality players. For instance we need a quality RM kuyt was often played there then downing for some reason only kenny knows. We should spend if the right player comes along but if they are not around why spend just for the sake of it. We need to improve and we will sign players. I think Rodgers will do things at this club that will be the foundation of this club for years to come. Also i think a lot of recent signings will come good this season we need to support them and im sure they will repay us, besides how many times did we hit the post or crossbar. We can't have the bad luck we had last season again surely.

Red raj

Kenny played downing out there to try cut in and shoot.i mean he cant be the only one who knows that.it wasnt working on the left the crosses wernt being put in

Can nobody realise we are only 8 days into the transfer window? We aren't the only team on the planet who haven't signed anyone. BR is clearly wanting to take a good look at his squad and see what is needed before he makes any rash decisions. People need to show some patience, you're talking as if it's August 30th and we haven't signed anybody.

People just settle the F*ck down, im sure we will sign people this window, just be patient.

09 Jul 2012 10:34:49
lfc fans...

lets get 1 thing straight........................

liverpool will not buy any high profile players!

so stop wasting time trying to match players with signing for us..

lfc will buy young players with "potential"...fairly cheap...and that is it

all the top players around will go to a champions league team...OR....a team who will just pay high wages or price tags........hence lfc policy is not to do so.NOW....and remember the management have already stated that they wont pay massive price tags etc like they did in their first season.

so lets be real..............we jus have to build slowly cos we cant compete with teams like spurs or chelsea or juve or psg etc...its just a fact

realistic red

Im sorry but we can certainly compete with spurs and juve

Perhaps, just perhaps he hopes to conclude a transfer this week.. crazy I know! Or perhaps it's another smokescreen for no transfers arriving...

Yes , that we hope to conclude one this week .... doh ! .....andy.

Just thought id voice my opinion on the aquaman not sure why everyone thinks he should be sold personally I think we should keep him as he's better than c.adam n provides cover for gerrard but if we were to sell him I would like to see thiago of barcelona I don't think it would take megabucks to sign him what do you think eds

Thiago Alcantara? The guy is tipped to replace Xavi so it would take megabucks.... star of the U21s plays with Barca's first team and introduced into Spain's team... chance? none...

Surely we are laden with midfielders, i'm not saying they are world beaters, however we need to at least get shut of aqua before we can bring anyone in? no?

Eds? Whay are we not competing for the likes of Moutinho? Or even some of the more experienced pass masters? {Ed002's Note - Liverpool cannot bid for every player in Europe.}

Hello EDs= I am not on twitter butit does seem that the twits (Iam sure that is the correct terminology) who are , seem to be latching onto every tweet and taking it as gospel.

I have resigned myself to FSG sticking to their tried and tested method of young British players based on statistical analysis of passes completed, chances created, metres covered, etc- Expect more mediocre signings at inflated prices.

09 Jul 2012 12:08:55

How can someone disagree with this guys post, its an actual quote from the press conference straight from the horses mouth. really are some muppets on here

09 Jul 2012 12:07:00
It's so funny how people overreact to Liverpool having not signed anyone yet.
This does not mean we are being left behind by other clubs! The window has only been opened around a week!
The moaners on here must really think that BR will take note of their impatience and act accordinly by signing all the players on their completely unrealistic wish lists! Let the man do his job, it's almost like some so called fans want Rodgers to fail so as they can say 'I told you so!'. Muppets!!

Jay spearing looks like he's staying. Sat next to Brendan Rodgers in the press conference.

Square tomato

I seriously see Jay fitting into BR's philosophy - possibly as a squad player rather than a first team regular. His strength lies in short and quick midfield passing (he's not so good at the Alonso-esque 50 yarders) and can be tenacious in the tackle. Not so hopeful for Charlie Adam though....

cozinoz

Hi ed i am from india and i am supporting lfc for the last 12 years. On the sixth of july my wife gave birth to baby boy and i hope one day he will play for lfc. I am sick to hear comments of fellow lfc supporter's regarding signings. I know we haven't signed anyone and i am also awaiting new signing's just as my fellow supporter's but nobody is thinking of the fact that we haven't lost any of our best plyrs. The most important thing should be to keep our best plyrs along with signing 3 players atleast 1. Forward 2. Winger 3. Playmaker. Pls keep the faith in fsg and br. We are lfc and i am proud to be one of the fans of this club. Ynwa.

09 Jul 2012 12:00:34
First time poster here so....first off, Ed's - great site, if nothing more than to indulge in the banter that goes with the alleged rumours of this that and the other! However it disappoints me that so many fans are quick to jump on LFC's transfer procedure, accusing the club of being too slow to go for players or criticising for not having bought anyone yet. For one, I am sure BR and his staff are working extremely hard to identify targets that they want and make offers where appropriate but the fact of the matter is that some approaches will be rebuffed by clubs and the player themselves as the truth is LFC are currently a way behind other top clubs. Of course there is merit in our proud history and doing things the Liverpool way, however many players are single minded and looking for short term gain - therefore a move to a Manchester club or indeed a top London club is more appealing at this stage. I understand fans patience has grown thin of late but we need to get behind the manager and the club and judge him on the team's performances before we can criticise his performance as a manager. I am also sure that the club is working hard to keep hold of the top players we currently have...there must be interest in the likes of Pepe, Suarez, Caroll, Agger, Skrtel, Johnson etc - they are all top players, so committing them to long term deals must be a priority. As far as rumours go, I have none but believe a more defence minded left back, an attacking midfielder and a winger / striker could see us challenge. Clear out the dead wood, and give some of the youngsters a chance but more importantly get the best out of these current players - Cole, Carol, Downing, Henderson, Aquilani haven't become bad players over night and have all represented their countries - thats where we will see the manager's real talent. The stability of a long term manager with long term plans, and a focused squad with few changes week to week will start to return dividends, I am sure of that! All fans should get behind the team and make Anfield a fortress again - that is the Liverpool way.

Keep up the good work Ed's.

Guernsey Red.

09 Jul 2012 11:49:10
At long last we are getting people voicing their concerns over the Liverpool transfer policy or lack of it. It's all well and good taking over a footbal club like Liverpool, and then talk about it's history and status as if it's a prized possession! They got rid of Kenny on the basis of results and poor transfers and appointed BR which I fully understand, but what's happening now is totally unacceptable. If they want a world famous club that is still iconic then unfortunately they have to spend on world class players and not just on local youth. Man City Chelsea and others are buying world class players as well as building up their youth policies so that they will be winning now and will then slide in youth as and when they need to....whereas LFC not investing in the quality we need to win now in the hope that in 3 4 or 5 years we will have a decent team! Were being looked upon as a mid table team and the sad thing is we are acting as one! It's going to be so embarrassing to finish mid table again this season

Embarrasing around your utd fan friends come up for air buddy we will play better than last year hopefully we will have less injury problems and more goals..i just dont understand how people think with lets say no signings that things will be worse cant be carrol for one looked way better at the end of the season

Hi eds n reds. To all the people who complain about the eds, they do a brilliant job. Spending there time looking through posts of repeated questions and answering the best they can. They do also have a life so any time they give to this site is a bonus. It's a free site, you pay no money to get there thoughts and knowledge, so if they are not doing a good enough job for you then don't look on site. If people keep moaning at them then they might just shut the site down! I mean why keeping putting the work to keep it going when ungrateful idiots just moan? I for 1 am extremely gratefully to all the eds for there hard work and commitment to this site. They obviously have good links in the football world and I am very thankful that they are willing to share there thoughts, ideas and knowledge. Keep up the great work eds and don't let the few spoil it.

Hmm. I'm confused a bit.

Siggy is gone - for sure.
Soldado got new contract - gone.
Munian, as well as Johnson and other top players too expensive - gone.
Ramirez seems like gone also.
De jong - the same.
Elm - talks got really quiet.

Are we at least got somewhere in May, June and July (Regarding new players' buying)?

Other teams, like Tottenham, MU, Chelsea and Arsenal have already bought few highest quality players each, but we, for some reason, didnt.

What is that reason? Are we that poor?

JJ

09 Jul 2012 11:24:44
You have to love rumours. All weekend we essentially already signed Ramirez, and now we haven't even had contact with him, Bologna or his agent. It is truly amazing how a lie can escalate to the point that even intelligent people start to believe it. Think I will assume no transfers this summer, and if we get someone it will be a happy surprise.

09 Jul 2012 10:33:16
If Liverpool don't pull their finger out and stop dithering round and actually sign someone of decent quality we will be left well behind the competition.. And then left with signing someone that no one else wants at double the price at the end of the window..!!

I suggest you watch the press conference from Rodgers today and stop bleating.

YNWA jns

Oh no! There's only 53 days left in this transfer window, we better start signing!

People really don't need to get their knickers in a twist when concerning themselves with transfers. Brendan Rodgers will need some time to make decisions on the squad and will sign players or make a push to sign players when that time arises.

What us as fans believe needs to happen may not fit with what Brendan believes needs to happen. The system he uses may not be what we believe it will be. It will require some time for new movement patterns, energy levels and passing plays to be implement and while he does this he will have to evaluate the capabilities of the squad.

I for one will be waiting for early pre season games to see how far the new regimes are along and how well the players who play take to the system. Just remain patient and understand that players strengths and weaknesses can only truly be assessed with in a system and not on their positions tag on the profile screen.

Tokyo red

Rodger's has just said in his interview that he hopes two signings can be completed this week!

its a shame we still cant sign any players. new maanger does not know where and who to sign.

Maybe sygurrdson was right, tottenham have big ambitions were as lfc will only pay more then 30 k wages for average englishmen :). So guys are these owners really able to support a club like lfc? RedTurk

What a surprise - RedBurk trying to stir up trouble just because any new signings do not fit into his time-frame.

Grow-up will you! I would rather the management take their time and asses the squads needs rather than make any rash decisions and waste money.

The transfer window does not close until September 1st - there is still plenty of time.

Rather than asking whether the owners can support LFC perhaps you should ask yourself whether you support LFC.

JRG

Red Turk,

Come on grow up. Thought you would have grown beyond your silly criticisms. Or rather, you could go join Tottenham fan club :)

O'seunfunmi (Anfield Red)

So just because we don't have a big Transfer budget and we arent prepared to pay massive wages we have no ambition. That makes no sense to me at all. LFC are going through a huge transition period, things are changing but to suggest we have less ambition than spurs! This is the long game we're playing now; as eager to win as ever i would have thought with consistency and future proofing the club, so yea as it stands I support FSG and BR.

Some fans need to open their eyes yes rodgers has his own players in mind but which quality player have we signed yet.

Negative, clueless and desperate, some fans on here don't deserve to be associated with LFC. If you can't support then don't. Also the papers are full of crap and twitter is garbage! When BR calls a press conference and announces who he has bought, then I will take notice

09 Jul 2012 10:23:00
Gaston Ramirez,
We dont want to get into a bidding war, so if we are interested only people that need to know will know.

Vincenzo D'Ippolito stated we had interest in Dec last year, and club president has said he will be sold this year.

He is at the olympics and is fully concentrating on this, nothing else.
Tw@tter, and any other media easy fix is THE main reason for all the talk.

He was one of KK & DC's high on the list targets, will BR follow this up? does he want to?

He will move, to where? we dont know.
Club state there is no "official" interest, so no news is good news.Until he signs for someone else and the whole world collapses around us as, yet again we miss another target. He may not even be a target because NO-ONE KNOWS !!

So, if you need to feed your hunger for scraps of truths, keep crtl+c & ctrl+v from twits on tw@tter.
Piddy.

09 Jul 2012 10:07:29
Hi ED's
Do think Gaston Ramirez coming to us is dead, due to him being seen as a bit light weigth for the PL and
what do you think our chances of getting alternative targets like, Kevin Strootman, Matias Suarez and Pablo Armero.

Simoky {Ed002's Note - It is not being "light weight".}

Well maybe it's that he is not willing to defend

FSG need to stop signing mascots and start signing players.

PORK CHOP

That a good marketing tool for kids. Let kids enjoy to be associated with Liverpool FC and the Liverbird. I see no harm in that.

Mos

I waiting for Mickey Mouse to sign

Egor Biscan has been employed by FSG to wear the new Mascot outfit

I'd like to think wee Jay Spearing is inside the new mascot operating it with a system of winches and pulleys, and a load of panel buttons and levers. Bit like the numbskulls from the Beano comics.

We need Draxler and Casemiro!

We need Dracula and Quasimodo?

Tristan

We need Don Quixote & Sancho Panza.

EdWood

Wouldn't mind Frankenstein at CB either.

We already have suarez and spearing...

couldnt help it. no offence.

aussiepool tristan

We have Skrtel

I don't know how Don King wearing a poncho would benefit the team...

Cuchulainn's Hounds {Ed022's Note - But it'd be one hell of a mascot!}

Lol true Ed022, can't see it lifting the team - more likely our players would be buckling with laughter on the way out the tunnel before kick off. Heard he does a good rendition of Los Del Rio's 'macarena' though! {Ed022's Note - He does, I taught him it. In return, he taught me how to style my hair like him.}

Bacon grease by any chance Ed022?

Just because were being linked with players Does not mean were actually after them. All these players were linked with have been scouted by Commolli, King Kenny and their scouting team. BR will have his own ideas, why would he bring in anyone Comolli has suggested. Commolli is the biggest joke ever to come out of ANFIELD. All we need is a quick winger, a goal poacher and a good left back. STOP thinking were going to buy Commolli's previous targets because it's not going to happen.

Liverpool Post are reporting that the club haven't bid for Ramirez. Furthermore, it looks like Liverpool are being used to entice others.

Hope its wrong but it sounds about right to be honest. I hope people don't rage if it doesn't happen.

Teejay

It's nothing more than a select few using Twitter as a way of trying to force FSG to make some signings. It's fans trying to run the club with you guys being used as the pawns by spreading it around the internet in high numbers.

Disney!

The Club are either keeping things under wraps or not - which is it - and The Daily Post is still ONLY a newspaper.

Seriously, why would people rage? There was never a credible shred of evidence. What is there to rage about>?

09 Jul 2012 09:39:47
First Gylfi, then Vertonghen to Spurs & now Lovenkrands to Brum. We have missed out again, can't believe what owners we have etc etc blah blah blah.......
Ultra red

What evidence do you have that we was interested in these players? We can only ''miss out'' if we wanted them in the first place!

MR EM

How have we missed out? Did we try to sign any of them?

We were never after vertonghen and lovenkrands man, whats ur point? n btw br has already explained why sig goin to spurs is not a bad loss, he d rather loose a player than overpay him, which proved disatrous last year for the likes of downing, adam, henderson and carroll (who btw all deserve another chance to redeem themselves imo)

I suspect he was being sarcastic. Lovenkrands?!

lfc press conference 12pm lfc channel, talking about us tour with 2 players present hopefully on transfers aswell?

I am pretty sure that the press conference has nothing to do with players transfers. I think it is about the stadium plans.

I know some of you guys don't like newspapers, ha ha

But Ginger is not keen on Ramirez

Not particularly funny, and not particularly clever.

Rory Smith: as far as I know, the #LFC interest in Gaston Ramirez disappeared with Comolli. He's this year's Juan Mata.

Deal or no deal? No deal! Singred

09 Jul 2012 09:05:56
Considering 95% of this page revolves around Gaston Ramirez, I would like to wager that we will not sign Ramirez and there will be a statement saying we looked at him but never made an official approach, and we end up signing someone like Nathan Dyer.

MGY

If we do that can any of you seriously say we are a big club and aspiring to be top like the owners keep telling us? RedTurk

Please Eds can we have a redturk page where all his posts can go...
ND

Oh my word RedTurk would you grow up. Did you think the signing of unknown Sami Hyypia was something a 'big club' would do? How about Pepe Reina? John Aldridge? Ray Houghton? Buying superstars is not the only way to get success so stop throwing your toys out the pram.

Kieran

^ But Kieran we also bought superstar's Barne's Beardsley Torres We already have to much crap at Anfield don't want anymore!

No way am I implying that we shouldnt call ourselves a big club, we are and always will be. I'm just very surprised at how much madness comes out of peoples mouths. p.s. i'd love to see Gaston @ LFC

09 Jul 2012 09:00:35
Echo reports suggest LFC trying to distance themselves from Ramirez rumours. Shame but hardly a surprise. Dempsey too. And newly wed Aquilani may head off to Turkey as well. Whatever.

Sick of all the ramirez rumours he WILL NOT sign for liverpool can we all just get over it and stop the million posts a day about him..

09 Jul 2012 08:44:56
I'm very impressed with BR and how he is working the transfers. Sig was the only player we really knew we were serious about going for. they're are alot of rumours at the moment but nobody we could really nail down as a confirmed target.

where as last year we all knew we were after downing, adam etc.

Just because things seem to be quiet at LFC does not mean that it really is. i think BR is working hard behind the scenes with targets he has in mind.

wether we buy now or end of August, no point rushing into a player that we like the look of.

BR has stated that players need to also be mentally tough to play for LFC due to the great history. all these things need to be assessed rather than just bid for a player on a few games watched.

Are you having a laugh? We are being left behind mate, we need to get rid of average players including joe cole and sign some quality players, but icant see that happening. RedTurk

Well said. BR has stated people are actively working in regards to transfers behind the scenes. Think we're some of the few fans not gullible enough to believe everything that is written.

KingHeskey

Just because you cant see it happening Turk does not mean its not happening.
Ya cant see the wind can you but bet you wouldnt go outside if it was hurricane strong so pipe down and shut up sick of your pessimism.

Kopping a feel

We need some quality fans Redturk mate.
What player would bust his gut for you?

MIKEY

How on earth can you be impressed with Rodgers transfer dealings? HE HASN'T MADE ANY YOU MUPPET!

Face facts, FSG are doing things on the cheap. The only transfers we can look forward to this summer are mediocre players like Victor Moses or at best a 30 year old Clint Dempsey.

We can forget challenging for CL football, it isn't going to happen. From now on we will be scrapping with the likes of Fulham & Stoke every season for a top 10 finish. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see Agger, Suarez & Skrtel sold on in the next year or so either.

One think i like about BR and according to everyone i have heard talk about him, is that he is very honest. I do not doubt he has players lined up and i am glad he's is not rushing in...sadly lots of LFC supporters on here seem to think we should buy everyone who is 'world class.'
But football is not like that...just because they play for a great team it doesn;t mean they are great once you take them out of their confort zone, and nor does it mean they will fit the style of play BR wants to deploy

Liverpool echo, very good source hey ;). RedTurk {Ed002's Note - Rather better than Twitter as you showed yesterday "ramirez has signed for lfc, transfer will be confirmed tomorrow. im happy about this signing.RedTurk". This is not BS. My sister is married to a uraguayan. His uncle is a dog groomer for the ramirez family and has been told in good faith that the move to LFC is happening.

"His uncle is a dog groomer for the ramirez family" thats the best one ive ever heard on here lol if you are meaning to be funny (i hope you are) then hats off to you thats hilarious but if you are actually being serious then i worry for you.

Pphheeww... I'm glad you say it's not BS otherwise I'd have never believed you....

09 Jul 2012 08:15:05
looks like we made our first signing of the season ..............a guy called mighty red ......hes our new mascot ........what a laughing stock we have become ....

Get over it - why are we a laughing stock ( in your mind )? do not other clubs have mascots? Football is not a sport anymore, it's a business.

1) Why can't we have a mascot?
2) Now that we have one, why does that make us a laughing stock?
3) Also, do some research and you will see that it is not going to be used for match-days (not that you would have seen it yourself with not actually going to Anfield to see the team play live).
It is for events and is more aimed at young kids.

It's for entertaining kids at parties and won't be at Anfield - stop overreacting.

JRG

Even if it did come to Anfield, i think we should just remain calm, i mean, this kind of things will be a big topic for awhile and then it fades. many things happen this way. the darren bent goal? the suarez incident is rarely talked about now, internationally i mean, dont know how it is in UK. it will be a hot topic just for awhile, and itll end eventually

Kaizer

We have a mascot: Jay Spearing

Who's laughing?

Not really a useful bit of info but I'm hearing that our big signings will be announced prior to us tour (sadly no names the club have really closed ranks which I think is excellent)

Hi Eds. great site by the way. I was
On the Anfield museum and stadium tour on Saturday and all the rumours around there are that the boss has only been given £20 million to spend in this window. Plus what he can recoup from sales. Is there any truth in this. Cheers {Ed002's Note - We really don't know.}

I'm sure the people carrying out the tours have access to knowledge of FSG funds for LFC. - NOT.

Only. ?....20 million that will do me,wat do expect with no champions league football ,please get real there's not a bottomless pit, football to the yonks is about making money as we speak there loosing money,so something will have to give,........the budget

Yes

That's what has been said since Rogers took over

20M plus player sales

FSG are pooooooooooooorrrr

£20m isn't bad. It will soon be £70m when Reina, Suarez and Skrtel are sold ;)

Disney!

09 Jul 2012 07:30:42
Call me a cynic but im not a big fan of our 'cheeky' new mascot Mighty Red. He's got no height, poor in the tackle and is never going to fit into a 4-3-3. What is Rogers thinking?

09 Jul 2012 07:28:25
Andy Carroll to AC Milan in a loan player swap for a season

Personally I'd be very surprised if we didn't loan them Andy Carroll, and I think we should loan them Suarez and Stevie G while we're at it. Due to the good experiences we've already had with Italian teams sticking to their end of the agreements, I bet we also tell them don't worry about covering the wages either, send it to us in installments when ever you feel like.

Tommy Walsh

I think that's a great idea

Will they take Rogers too?

09 Jul 2012 07:17:32
AC Milan want Andy Carroll on loan, ye ok cos it worked out so well last time! lol

09 Jul 2012 06:27:42

09 Jul 2012 06:27:26
Hi ed with the days passing i m bit confused why lfc taking too much time to sign players. Can u explain why it take too long. And can u tell what are the chances of these players to sign for lfc.
1. Ramirez
2. Sturidge
3. A.johnson
4. Krasic
5. Munian
ur response will be appreciated. Thanx.

Cone on, be real. There is a fair chance that BR has players in mind he would like - and do you honestly believe it is a good idea to show your hand to the press who those players are? All the names mentioned are pure speculation by journalists and people on twitter trying to get inside info - absolutely no names have been mentioned by BR of who he wants to bring in.

You forgot jovetic off that list

09 Jul 2012 06:27:18
come on people. if we had put away half the missed chances last season then we would have been there fighting wit the rest.
we dont need a full squad .
what we need is some stability. the whole club has been pulled through the dirt in the last few years.
new managers, new visions, money poorly spent and new players not flying out the blocks that we asume will be the answer to all our problems.
we needed to be adding players to a settled team over the last few years but instead we get 5 or 6 average players added as a revolution and expect miracles.
lets get some decent pace out on the wings, some creativity in the centre and lats trust buck rodgers and see what the man can do.
you have to learn to never walk alone before you can never run alone.

Hi eds & Lfc fans

Just checked LFC tv and they're listing a Live Press Conference from 12pm.
Does anyone have an idea of what this press conference?

It's a press conference to preview the tour of North America

Don't get too excited - info on pre-season tour to the US.

It is to preview the tour of north America, don't get too excited!

How big cance are that him can be LFC play this summer ? {Ed001's Note - I think he has just joined Botafogo, in the last week or so.}

09 Jul 2012 01:16:37
Gaining more and more speed from various sources and some close to myself is that Gaston Ramirez deal is 99% done fee agreed between 16-18 million and subject to medical although no official word expected for a few days, the main hold up is Ramirez getting clearance to leave Olympic squad to have medical and sign then there will the announcement.

09 Jul 2012 00:59:30
Eds am i right here? From what I can make out all the rumours regarding Ramirez come from twitter or "special" links from Italy/Uruguay, there have been no reports from sky or BBC about any bids let alone interest right?

I would love us to sign him but I just want to know if there have been any genuine reports from genuine sources? Cheers great work and love the site!

These Gaston Ramirez rumours must be doing your heads in Ed's, he has signed every night for the past two weeks! If I had a pound for every time I've seen "Gaston Ramirez set to sign for Liverpool" I could pay for the transfer myself! This new batch of rumours comes from a supposed journalist from Uruguay retweeting a fake Sly Sports account, so it's hardly reliable. Everyone needs to calm down and wait and see what happens.

Brendan Rodgers has an open invitation to give Spain coach Vicente del Bosque a visit as he bids to get his new Liverpool team playing like European and world champions.
So far only news I found BR is planing well. but his transfer activity player choice everything looks very slow to me. AVB move vert fast in Tottenham.

hhh {Ed002's Note - This is recycled old news - sorry.}

Its not an old story ed, he has been invited to discuss tactics etc with del bosque. RedTurk

It is an old story, he was invited to go to the spain euro 2012 training camp for a few days while he was still at swansea but he had to change plans after he moved to liverpool. He may have got another invite but i cant see how he has much time to do it now what with pre-season starting, middle of a transfer window and europa games coming up soon

Interesting Page
Liverpool Football Club is in safe hands...
Rodgers knows exactly what he is doing...
I have brilliant respect for him...
It is looking like Gaston Ramirez will be a Liverpool Player
I think to muck tinkering with a squad that is settling down
will back fire. All in all we do have a strong squad with a outstanding man in Rodgers to guide us threw...
From what I here we will be adding what was missing from last season, Gaston Ramirez, A new striker, and maybe one more tops... Young players will be getting a chance this season coming and our squad is big enough and has the quality to bring us into the top 4 with stylish play
Lucas is like a new signing, Sterling is like a new signing and I be happy with a top goal finisher...
Rodgers is like 7 signings to me he is that good a manager
Realistic Red

It's nice to hear someone being positive rather than crying because FSG wont fund moves for Neymar etc. I agree, and I really hope Ramirez signs, top quality player

Just on the Gaston Ramirez rumours, if you go onto the Bologna FC home page, I couldn't see Ramirez listed in the squad?? Don't know if this means anything, but, thought I'd share it with you all.

Stevie.

Not true, I just checked and he is near the bottom of the drop down menu. Still hope it happens though! I personally think he'd be a great signing.

Gaston Ramirez has signed for £16m.

..... about the pre-season tour to the US.

08 Jul 2012 23:52:24

Apologies for the cut and paste Ed but thought I'd share.

Are the Eds still of the opinion that he's not coming? Only reason I ask is that a lot of the eds I've read seem certain no bid has been made as yet.

Tonight it has been revealed from a very reliable source that Liverpool are going to secure the services of Uruguayan winger, Gaston Ramirez, from Bologna for a fee in the region of €20million over the weekend.

Rodrigo Romano tweeted:

Por la info que tengo en el fin de semana se cerrará la transferencia de Gaston Ramirez al Liverpool por 20 millones de Euros #LFC

When translated this means:

The info I have on the weekend will close the transfer of Gaston Ramirez at Liverpool for 20 million Euros # LFC

Romano is a highly trustworthy source, with links to Uruguayan footballers because of his work on Gol TV, and being a sports journalist since 1994.

Ramirez has been coveted by Liverpool for some time and, if the deal does go ahead, will be a huge sign of intent from Brendan Rodgers to the rest of the league. Ramirez is a skilful, pacy winger who bagged eight goals and four assists over the duration of last season. Ramirez currently has two of his fellow countrymen playing for the famous red of Liverpool in Coates and Suarez. Hopefully this is the start of a busy period within the transfer window, as Rodgers scours high and wide for suitable acquisitions that will mould with his beliefs and playing style.

I think Ramirez, Elm, Krasic and Afellay would be an excellent and viable four players for us. They would no doubt strengthen our squad and would add that creativity we sadly
Asked last season.

I'm hoping these reports are accurate and the deal is imminent.

Jonesred {Ed002's Note - I don't think any Ed has said he is not coming.}

Liverpool are emerging as favourites to sign Uruguayan midfielder Gaston Ramirez according to the latest sources in the media.

Reports in Italy and Uruguay suggests a bid of €16m has been accepted by Bologna and Ramirez's representatives are set for talks with LFC.

Ramirez is currently with the Uruguayan Olympic squad preparing for London 2012 along with fellow compatriots Luis Suarez and Sebastian Coates

Hi eds, How accurate would you ay the following quote is(taken from lfc TV transfer rumors page).
"There are a few clubs interested but Liverpool are ready to make a big move," a source close to the player has been quoted as saying. {Ed002's Note - Around 5.6%)

08 Jul 2012 22:53:45
I guess we all want to see signings but for people to come on and say we keep missing out on signings is far from the mark, Siggurdson apart no one knows who are targets are, i would say give it time and a couple will come in. Its hard to be a fan, we want it transfer business done quietly but want to know everything at the same time. I just hope we hold on to our top players Suarez, Skrtel, Agger, carroll. Much more important keeping them than getting players in, in my opinion.

Hi Eds,

Just wondering if you could shine a light on the Joe Allen situation...

I've used the search function and theres pages and pages of stuff about the lad.

I see you said "Where theirs a will theirs a away..." but what does this mean?

Is their or isnt their a clause in BRs contract to say he can't have Swanseas players for 12 months or not? Or even if their is, are their ways around it?

Frightfully confused.
