Hi, Do we need to sell players to balance the books for FFP by a certain date (July 1st?). If so are we in a position for deals to go through in time? I'm thinking Aspas, Coates and Borini are the most likely. Cheers, Sparks

He was one of Rodgers first signings when he came to Liverpool so you would expect that Rodgers would like him.

Last season Sturridge was out injured and he barely kicked a ball so no he does not have a future here with Rodgers as manager.

From a nostagic POW it was almost always in the lower leagues LFC found their great strikers, before anybody else. (I guess besides Dalglish). Not the "top top" name strikers, with most, in my opinion, becoming flops once they make their big money move. And off course that's not just with us. (Ask down in London, how their "top european strikers have fared).

Is there anybody we should be keeping an eye on ? or is todays bigger squads ruining that statistic ?

Believable0 Unbelievable3

09 Jun 2015 22:17:25
Benik Afobe and William Grigg both impressed me last season. Patrick Bamford (although I think he was on loan from a Premier League team)

Troy Deeney is also a good striker But he's not as young as the 3 above and technically will be a Premier League player soon. My money is on him to score 15+ goals for Watford next season. A very under rated and powerful striker who just scores goals for fun. I see no reason why he won't make the step up but for every Charlie Austin there is a Ricardo Vaz Te. So he may buckle under the pressure.

Looking back LFC very rarely buy world class talent, we seem to pick guys up at the right time and they become world beaters.

Likes of vietto, but obviously not going to happen.
I like salmon Rondon but i don't know much about him.

just don't see a higuain, cavani type coming in.

Think maybe a hulk, walcott, falcao older with maybe with a point to prove.

Maybe take off the rose-tinted spectacles and come and join us in 2015 rather than reliving past glories of 30+ years ago that have no relevance to football today? As a club we are by far the worst for harking on about the past - can we not just do what most other clubs do and focus on the present?

Agree2 Disagree3

10 Jun 2015 08:50:09
Scouting has improved hugely since the 80s. Now, a potential Dalglish would be picked up as a teen by a big club, hence it is very difficult to pick up the most talented players in lower league football as the good ones there are late developers.

We need stop looking at the past and do things professionally as it is done everywhere else in the PL.

Agree1 Disagree2

10 Jun 2015 13:35:41
AG, scouting networks may have gotten larger, casting a wider international net, and more sophisticated.
But, in Liverpool's case, we are probably much less effective than in the 80's.
We had a fantastic scouting set up, from Shankly's time on, led by Geoff Twentyman.
You do know that Dalglish came to Liverpool as a 16 year old, watched the famous Charity Shield game at Goodison when the World Cup was on display in 1966 ?

Can't wait to see who comes in to work with Rodgers. It's arguably more important than any other signings.

Made up with Milner and Ings and think Bogdan's not a bad second GK. My question to the Eds is whether Alderwereild, who we have been linked with heavily in the past and had a very good season with Southamption, would be of interest to us now.

Perhaps more reasonably-priced than Clyne and Atletico may be willing to let him go. The way I see it, we could use a back that could play both sides, and he's capable.

we seem to be always lately buy players who are at best at the level we finished this season in the league - not really top drawer players who can help mount title challenge and at worst get into CL. unfortunately this is kinda where BR peaks. he has never operated in the real top tier of world football - neither have FSG, so we are now seeing a reflection of this. The thing is as others have stated on here, we don't have to go buy established world class players for 50 million plus, look how we got suarez and couthino, and ian rush and others going back - clever scouting outside of the top tier rat race

Right "Blocked", but we can still try and buy better players and more suitable players at that. Just because we didn't qualify doesn't mean we have to stick with signing dross. Know everyone on here disagrees with that but you'll all be moaning at the end of the season about them not being good enough, just wait.

Don't worry it will be over soon. Unfortunately there will still be people in place at the club making mistake after mistake as it's not just Rogers. When that ends I.E some sort of takeover, then we might see a much stronger club. Until then we have owners with good intentions but not the know how to pull off that feat.

I saw lot of Rafa haters and never wanted him in liverpool.
Guess what he is with real madrid.

Rodgers is that coach of liverpool. His assistants are fired. What that means? Owners want to implement the philosophy and book he has written and implement it on club.

If he cannot do that why keep him for philosophy bring some one who can implement it.

What I learnt from his 3 year stint is that he is a clueless manager about defense.

His passing philosophy is okay, but the man is even ready to implement a 6 man midfield, spanish national team style.

That is scary, because if there is no end product. it will be 6-1

The last time it happened was almost 50 years ago.

Lol YR.
As bad as we think Liverpool gets sometimes, Newcastle just goes from bad to worse.
Mike Ashley gets Carver to ring two players to tell them, in a shared phone, that they're not getting their contracts renewed.
And then nine days later Ashley sacks Carver and his coach Steve Stone.
I wonder if that was a shared phone call from a telephone box to keep costs down as well.
On second thoughts, probably a text.
Terrible.
The day Liverpool gets like that, is the day I will pack it all in.
So there, haha.

Ed1 do you make anything of the quotes? Moreover would you be surprised if Rodgers wasn't in charge come the first game of the season with the undermining of him that's come out this last week?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - nothing, he has been saying these things for a long time. I would not be surprised by anything FSG do, they are clueless. They have put the whole club into chaos with their dreadful handling of the club this year.}

10 Jun 2015 07:49:21
Think people need to stop clinging to the hope of klopp becoming manager. Rodgers is here for the foreseeable future, no point in pining over managers that are out of reach.
The way people are making out they think klopp is in love with Liverpool, 'klopp said this, klopp said that, klopp was seen wearing a Liverpool scarf" he loves Liverpool no more than any other club, if he loved Liverpool as much as liverpools fans love him then he would be here already.

The owners have made thier choice, they've given him a lot of money over the past few years, this year they have started getting signings in early albeit "free transfers" but they are trying and will continue to try whilst they are here. If it works out or not remains to be seen but we can't choose the owners or the manager or the players so there's no point saying "why wouldn't ancelotti come to us? We sign him then follow him up with vietto, and pirlo for our midfield. We don't need players like Ings and Milner we deserve better. we are Liverpool!!!!!"
Liverpool are worth nothing in the opinions of most other players these days.
We just do the best with what we have, we get behind the club and hope for the best.

Mateo Kovacic is a gem of a player and will be a first team player alongside Coutinho Milner, Henderson, Ibe and Sturridge.

25 million euros 18 million in proper money would be money well spent!

C'mon FSG flash the cash and get Mateo snapped up then we can move on to the next target.

Believable15 Unbelievable5

09 Jun 2015 19:17:07
No doubt someone will correct me but I can't think of too many players who've moved from Italy to England and been a massive success. If we do sign this fella then I hope I'm wrong but our record with ex-Serie A players is very poor.

Agree10 Disagree2

09 Jun 2015 19:39:00
Totally agree, Kovacic will be a superstar in his prime. Much better than what we currently have. The only problem is that we already have too many midfield options both in the first team and youth squad.

Agree7 Disagree2

09 Jun 2015 19:54:13
If you talking about coming to England then Vialli and Zola did very well for Chelsea , but yes I agree with you Italian players and players from serie A seem to struggle in our club . But you never know there is always a first

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Jun 2015 19:56:31
I see what your saying but can't you aim that at any nationality if you look hard enough?

True Coutinho was a great success, but there was also Balotelli, Aqualani, and Dossena to name a few. Then for every Mascherano there was an Insua or Paletta, for every Xabi, Torres and Arbeloa there's a Nunez, Aspas or Josemi.

Point is doesn't really matter what league they come from any player no matter who the player is, is a gamble.

Agree5 Disagree0

09 Jun 2015 20:10:24
what i don't get is this idea you buy loads of players who play in similar positions and expect a midfield to form its self. The one position we don't need at all. like it would be idiocy to buy in is attacking mid. Unless were selling lallana and sterling for definite then it makes no sense.

Agree3 Disagree0

09 Jun 2015 20:14:03
Johnny what about coutinho? Zola? Ravanelli? Vialli? Di Matteo? Di Canio? Robbie Keane?

I'm sure there's more that was just off the top of my head

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Jun 2015 20:41:29
You can't have Robbie Keane he started at Wolves . Plus it's not so much players from Seria A it tends to be Italians that don't seem to settle well. Kovacic however is Croatian . But more to the point we haven't signed him so I won't worry until he puts on his red shirt

Agree3 Disagree0

09 Jun 2015 20:57:01
Not sure we will be able to move onto the next target if your going to blow so much money on a player we don't need. Would rather spend that on a striker/goal keeper/right back.

I hate this.

I'm getting that excited feeling again that I always get every close season.

Milner & Ings already in.

Kovacic looking likely.

Clyne, maybe?

Bogdan, maybe (although would prefer someone to challenge Migs rather than warm the bench)

A "top, top" striker who is already at the peak of his game (rather than potential like Origi and Ings) and I will feel like we are in good shape.

Yes, I'm not overly pleased that we have Rodgers rather than Klopp, but if someone like Hyppia and/or Pako could come in to bolster the coaching provision, then again, I have that "we can conquer the world" feeling again.

And I hate it!

Believable6 Unbelievable5

Agree mate, although I wouldn't say Kovacic is looking likely. We seem to be messing about again with the situation. Eds don't fill me with confidence either that he will arrive. They have said it's possible but I don't see it happening.

Agree1 Disagree2

09 Jun 2015 21:02:03
Really? Milner, Ings, Kovachich and Klyne make you excited? I doubt if any of them would have made it to the starting 11 of the top 4, maybe Klyne at United, maybe.

Who exactly is the top top striker you see coming to us? Sorry mate, it will take at least Tevez and Zlatan to make me less pessimistic than what I was the day the season ended. IMO the gap between us and the top 4 will be much bigger in the coming season.

Inter are apparently very unhappy with LFC bid for Kovacic. There's a difference of between €7m and €9m between what we offer and what Inter want (€25m). now I don't know whether this is a ploy to get Leiva thrown in to the deal but it does appear it might be given the noises coming from Tuttasport and other Italian media outlets. Would be a pity and LL would be a big miss for us.

Believable7 Unbelievable2

Throw in Allen and Can too, we can apparently never have enough attacking midfielders.

Agree0 Disagree8

10 Jun 2015 00:24:56
How can people say a derogatory bid. It's called negotiating!! Liverpool know that inter are trying to raise money to make a couple of signings of there own and try to use this to there advantage. Liverpool could return with another offer as said including Lucas or Borini or who ever.

If I buy a car I'm always going to try knock a bit off with the dealer during the sale, if the deal doesn't seem right we both move on. If we're both happy yay I got a new car, dealer has rid. Simples.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2015 02:47:25
Offering a stupidly low bid pisses off the club who owns the player and just wastes a lot of time for all parties. Inter were never, in a million years, going to even give a sniff to our bid - we know it, and they know it - so why on earth mess around and bid in the first place. Our reputation is going down in the footballing world and offering stupidly low bids for players doesn't help that. I wish we'd just do it properly.

From YouTube videos only he looks like the kind of passing midfielder we need. He likes to get on the ball and dictate the play. He can play in a deep lying role as well as an attacking role. I'd play him in the holding role personally or alongside Henderson in cm.

So what happens to Can or are we already buying his replacement after spending last season playing out of position?

Agree5 Disagree0

09 Jun 2015 19:41:19
Kovacevic is well looked by at least one member of the coaching staff at inter who feels that worth the right coaching he can reach the level of consistency and ability of dino Baggio (an underrated player in his his time). Position wise he has been used as a central midfielder or deep lying playmaker but it's felt that worth a bit of work on his timing he could play as a complete box to box midfielder.

Personally speaking I think he's am excellent player already and would be best deployed in the free attacking mid role that Gerrard used to occupy, that's just my opinion though.

Agree1 Disagree1

09 Jun 2015 22:57:29
And what happens to Can and Couts in the box to box and free roles? Do we just get shot of them or do we have a plan on how to use them effectively because playing Can out of position hence, making him worse is not a valid argument to spend a fortune buying a player we don't need?

Agree2 Disagree0

10 Jun 2015 02:50:53
@redohio - it provides variety to our team and other options. We don't have to play him in the "gerrard role" and as he is capable in multiple midfield positions he could be a valuable asset. Injuries have dogged out team at various points throughout the season yet when a signing that would strengthen the squad significantly is mentioned people get uptight because it isn't the world class, 30 goal a season striker we can neither afford nor attract. Kovacic would be a fine addition and add quality to the squad - or I suppose we can just keep using Joe Allen more?

Agree0 Disagree2

09 Jun 2015 13:36:32

Enrique has another year left on his contract. Since he has largely spend the last two seasons keeping us all informed of the color of the nail polish he likes and the vast array of swimming pools he has visited, he has not played enough football to attract any interest, and nobody will want him. He is a player LFC would like to move on, but can't move on if you know what I mean.

Also, I am by no means convinced about the system Ed002 alludes to. I am pretty sure Rodgers himself has no idea what type of system to play. I won't be surprised if he goes back to his favorite 4-3-3.

Why do we need to replace sterling in a weak market, why not if he leaves use ibe, Marko, lallana & coutinho on the wings (hey we might even go with the diamond again) and then use the money off sterling next year or the year after when a proper player becomes available. Hate Madrid rejects.

Pako for me everyday as i feel when he left, Benitez lost it completely

Believable13 Unbelievable0

Pako is more into being head coach/manager nowadays. Going back to being a fitness coach working under a head coach would be a significant backwards step for him even though Liverpool is a bigger club than Maccabi Tel Aviv.

How about boot Rodgers and appoint Pako - at least he has had success as part of the coaching staff at Liverpool and won the treble in Israel.

Maxi,
Can you give me a list of the young players that BR has improved if he is such a great and understanding coach. because it looks to me that he ships them out and seems to forget about them. The only reason Ibe was brought back was due to injuries. I really don't see any proof of this great young player coach.

Agree4 Disagree1

09 Jun 2015 19:09:26
Maxi, that`s a jokeright? "One of the best in the business". You must be on some kind of medication that you need to get off, ASAP. What has he done actually? Our academy is rotting away with talent yet your "one of the best in the bus" buddy denies them any real chance of getting on the pitch. If he`s that competent, why does he buy youth from other clubs to come take their place and then we find out they are not better than said academy players i.e Manquillo and Marko who are not better than Ibe, wisdom and Kelly (who your boy disgracefully sold for a pittance)or buying Alberto for Suso (who left for nothing as well)? And where is Alberto now? rossiter scores on his debut and you think he can do a job and the boy never sees the field again and now he`s injured. Why is Can getting worse with every game when every man and his dog knows he is not a CB/FB? Can you provide answers to these inconvenient truths I just mentioned? In fact, the only reason you know about how good Flanno could be was that injuries forced his hand to play him vs Everton (where he was outstanding like in the Spurs game)and that the owners refused to give him money in Jan and was ordered to get Ibe back if he wanted a new player. Now, he`s taking credit for their development when had he had his way, Flanno like Hendo before him, would be gone. These are the facts and you are free to prove me wrong with facts instead of baseless narrative or blanket statements. BR might be an expert on things but getting the best out of and giving youth a decent chance ain`t one of them.I don`t dislike BR as a person even tho i trhink he has flaws that he needs to address as a person. I`m just saying that your idea of what he can do don`t rhyme with the facts as we know them to be thru the good work and the info the Eds provide us. If you have more accurate info to disprove them then, we are all ears.

we was also in the champions league then,

I understand that Pascoe got sacked and Marsh´s contract wasn´t extended - they had little impact on the teams performance.

I would imagine that Rodgers told the owners that he needed help, and they went aboard with that and they would give him a better and more experienced headcoach and asst manager. Brendan doesn´t strike me as a man who will reach compromises with anyone - It´s Brendans way or no way (he didn´t want to work with a DOF). Also he seems to take credit when something good happens and is quick to scapegoat others when things go bad - Pascoe was his yes-man, but I can´t imagine that the new coach and asst manager will nod along with everything BR does.

I can only see this solution will end in tears.

Agree7 Disagree0

09 Jun 2015 10:54:04
That is actually a problem. I wouldn't see any experienced coach get along with rodgers and his inexperience. also they will not really like rodgers advising them on stuff.
the owners are thinking right by changing the backroom staff and probably it is the only way forward.
I think FSG have decided to give Rodgers a year but this time it will not be on his terms it will be FSG who decides what/who they want and rodgers needs to accustom himself to that.
which means two things firstly next season could very well be a disaster and rodgers fired of his post or secondly the new coaching staff gets the best out of players and rodgers combines all of it into a system that brings results on the pitch , that however would mean rodgers would need to actually listen to people.

now if the latter happens its a masterstroke, if it doesn't it is going to be an absolute circus at LFC.

Agree3 Disagree0

09 Jun 2015 11:10:40
What does it matter if the head coach is a yes man or a no man?

Brendans that stubborn isn't he? Not like he will listen to a coach?

And the coach operates under him, Brendan is the boss. El numero uno and the coaches do what he says.

Have you ever thought maybe just maybe pascoe new him better than us and wanted to keep the peace by not fighting him. Knowing he wouldn't listen anyway.

Agree0 Disagree2

09 Jun 2015 11:54:43
The ability to work effectively with others is going to be essential to a long career - in almost any walk of life. Rogers either has to adapt or go. He seems an intelligent man - I hope he'll work it out himself, because I think he has a lot going for him. I think we need to understand that he's not the finished article as a manager or coach - but I share the view that this is the year he has to make a decisive step forward with the team. I'd love to see Paco back - could he even be manager if Rogers doesn't make the grade?
Ever the optomist,I suspect (and I hope I'm right) that Lallana, Markovic and Can will make a big step forward in the midfield this coming year, hopefully Moreno too. I think we need to recognise where we are The taunts over Lacazette are painful because they are true. We also need to understand that FSG are wedded to the moneyball philosophy and will not make Marquee signings unless the price is right. In this context Ings is a shrewd signing - proven to get goals in a struggling team at this level, available for a relative song, and can only get better. I hope he passes his medical!

Agree2 Disagree1

09 Jun 2015 12:26:04
AndyM:
intelligent man? you need to elaborate. Honestly I think that he could become a great manager, but he sure needs some guidance from an experienced manager.
Last year we spent enormous amounts of cash on players that wasn´t worth half of their price. Lallana and Markovic are prime examples. For the kind of money we spent on these player, you would expect them to fit right in the starting 11 and have an impact.

Agree2 Disagree0

09 Jun 2015 13:23:41
I'm with AndyM - I personally think the changing of back room staff isn't a bad idea if we're keeping Rogers. Make sure he gets opinions from the best support staff available and if he can't work with anyone but yes men and earn respect from the team around him then he doesn't deserve the job.

Agree0 Disagree2

09 Jun 2015 13:37:23
Using the word intelligence and BR in the same statement is an indictment on the word, intelligence. "He has a lot going for him", was that a joke or have you been asleep for the past three years? Someone who keeps making the same mistakes that has earned him the sack twice and almost earned him the sack here and hasn`t learned a thing since, is NOT intelligent at all. Redfuzz, I have posted the very same thing you did for the past days and all I get is that I`m too negative. If people wanna just brush aside the concerns you pointed out, the concerns will not just go away. they are valid and need to be addressed. The owners don`t rust BR and are trying to get him help. How do you help someone by weakening him as in, firing his staff and appointing other people he doesn`t want and deep down we all know, he will be forced to work with? We offerred him help with a DOF, he refused and now suddenly he`ll just take it because he had an epiphany? A leopard never changes his spots. If he does accept this structure and allow his assistants to fall on their swords for him, then it shows he lacks integrity and is just interested in being LFC`s manager in name only and nothing more. As Redfuzz said, "This will end in tears"

Agree2 Disagree3

09 Jun 2015 15:11:28
I'm sorry but so much of this stuff has no merit. We don't know if Rodgers listens to his back room staff or not. I would have to imagine he at least listens sometimes; I can't seem to get the image of him talking to his assistants out of my head while we were getting trounced those last 5 games.

I wanted Brendan out too, but enough is enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Jun 2015 16:53:36
Redohio, the use of the work "Indictment" in that context says a lot about your intelligence.

Whether you are happy with Brendan or not, it is time for everyone to accept the decision made by FSG and give him full backing. I am a lifelong Liverpool fan and will blindly follow through the bad times and the good. We can't berate other supporters (scum etc) callign them plastic fans, then act the same way as soon as Liverpool don't live up to our high expectations.

Surely new coaches are good anyway? If you teach a man not to miss a penalty it's not like what Rodgers then says will make him miss? If hyypia comes in I'm assuming as a defense coach of some sort surely the time he spends with the players training them will improve their defensive capabilities regardless? Like I honestly could be daft here but would Rodgers actually dictate every detail if training to every coach? Like pako I have read here people regard his work as causing us to be at our fittest and most effective under rafa. would his work now not have the same effect on fitness? To me this surely improves the team (well hopefully) regardless of what Rodgers does. I'm not saying it's the perfect solution but it's still a step forward rather than back for me!

Klucas, the post you just made shows your inability to think for yourself and have a true point of view after compiling all the sides to a story. BTW, why should I accept rubbish being forced down my throat like a good ol boy and you talk as if you`re smarter than me whereas you cannot think for yourself and follow others in ignoring the mess we are in all in the name of "get behind the team". If you can`t think for yourself and try to see the other side of things as many of us are doing then, I can`t help you there. Also you are in no position to lecture me or anyone on this issue because you may not have noticed but I`m not the only one with such concerns and we have a right to voice them. That doesn`t mean I will not support my club which I will. I am looking at another side of the coin that needs to be addressed. Ed01 and many on here agrees with me on this because they has posted the same thing so at least, I know I`m not on my own here. And I maintain that BR is NOT intelligent because he who makes the same mistakes for years and refuses to learn from them CANNOT be deemed to be intelligent and that is a known fact based on logic.

Hi Ed1,

Just want to understand how can Rodgers improve his coaching skills over the summer or for that matter how do young coaches update their coaching skills in the summer break ? Thank you for the reply.

Believable6 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - he seems to get on well with the others, but I remain to be convinced of his value as a player. He does work hard, he also needs time to settle in before he can be truly judged, but right now, as you said, his end product is awful. What he really needs though, is to be played regularly in a position he knows well, so he can settle into the team and get used to his team mates' game.}

Agree6 Disagree2

09 Jun 2015 10:47:32
It is a problem in a club like Liverpool to play someone regularly when his end product is awful as you say and I agree. In the big teams you cannot spend a year getting used to the PL or finding your best position while playing badly because every game the team don't win is a disaster.

With Milner coming and maybe Kovachich and surely if both Kovachich and Cherichev (although it will probably be either or) I think there is a good chance Markovich will be sold or loaned this summer.

Agree5 Disagree1

09 Jun 2015 13:20:17
I like Marko, i think technically he is good, but seeing him play in Portugal with a lot of confidence he doesn't have it in England. Playing as a wingback is a joke for him. It worked for a certain stint but overall i wasn't convinced with 5 at the back, i'd rather sort out our defence and play with a proper back 4 and actually play players in their own position. Hendo at wingback was ridiculous, Marko will be better higher up, i always thought why is Lallana there when you could play Marko, i like Adam but not hit his form at Shampton.

Agree0 Disagree1

09 Jun 2015 13:27:21
Agree Ed - can't help but feel if he had been brought on for 30mins at a time in a position that he's well versed in until he'd settled then he would have built his confidence a lot sooner (or kept it). It's clear he started brighter than he finished the season and he's not the only one IMO - most seemed impacted by some strange selections/subs/positions last season.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Jun 2015 13:44:24
Misty, I have asked the same question myself and it seems many think that if a player is played out of position by BR and is struggling then the player isn`t good enuff and needs to be sold. Can is a great example of this. He as played everywhere but his natural position and struggled big time and now some on here are saying he will not get better and needs to go. How one can say BR makes players better YET we have Marko and Can who are getting worse under him beggars belief. play the players in their natural position consistently before a judgement can be made on their ability instead of falling for BR`s " Iknow everything because I`m the manager" behavior

So ed001, may be if sterling goes we don't need to bring in anyone to directly replace him? I mean marko with ibe and then some academy prospects down the line. Would we really need a winger? Obviously you can never get enough of them. But, just asking.

And judging by ed002s response yesterday, kono is gone?

Markovic needs to get arrogant about his game real fast, he is too timid, wants to be everyones friend on the pitch, Teixeira is more willing to have a go than him. but when he does turn it on you can see the lad is potentially unstoppable.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Jun 2015 16:27:02
He has a brilliant touch but seems to be over thinking the final pass to much. ( probably because he's being played in unfamiliar positions) he also has pace to burn but has barely used it. If he can get some confidence over the summer he could be brilliant for us. I just hope he gets a chance in a more attacking role,I could see him being mis-used again next season, sold off at a loss and then doing very well elsewhere.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Jun 2015 19:28:59
Swisch, this is where good coaching and man management comes in. A good manager will protect him and give him confidence, letting him know he is allowed to make a mistake so he doesn`t over-think things like he does. We cannot expect these young players to just get smarter on their own. You need guidance from the senior players and the manager to help them as LS helped Sterling and Couts be as good as they were/are.

I obviously don't see this happening. But I love Zlatan as a player.

He's been a success every where he goes, can score from any where and by any means. He has never relied on pace, but more his positioning and his size which won't deteriorate so I think he could well play into his late 30's at the highest level if he wanted.

He's clearly got a very violent streak in him by the amount of ''Bust-ups'' he has had which would be very worrying. For me you would have to weigh up whether you think the talent he brings is owrth the bad press once or twice a year. I certainly think he'd be a lot more worthy than Balotelli who also brought baggage. I'd be certain Zlatan would hit the back of the net more.

Ability wise, Ibrahimovic is among the best strikers, even at 33, however, even if it is for a short term, his wages would be prohibitive for any deal to take place IMO. He is also very arrogant/confident and a bit of peenes, not unlike Ronaldo.

Thanks for the input guys. I just thought it was a good talking point though I think it unlikely. As I mentioned his wages as a 33 year old wouldn't be anywhere near what it is now and we would also be able to pay him a little less than now due to the difference in tax

If his wages were at a reasonable level it would be a no-brainer: sadly his vast salary mmakes any deal a complete impossibility.

Question for ed001 please,

I've been thinking recently that many of the players who performed badly did so because of the poor tactics, and man management by Rodgers and so I'd be willing to give them more time (even if I viewed them as under performing). Would you agree that most players performing badly last year did so because of poor tactics or are they bad players unsuited to Liverpool?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

09 Jun 2015 09:13:38
tactics were poor and more importantly the whole issue of players being put in wrong positions doesn't help. but for the money they get paid and general talent i would still want to see them work as hard as they can to get the team the results

I think Balotelli, Manquillo and Moreno were the only signings that got a fair crack in their preferred position and dissapointed.

Moreno and Manquillo are young though and it was there first year in the Prem.

No excuse for Balotelli though.

All the others I put down to poor coaching, tactics, team selections or simply bad luck. Lallana, Lovren and Can in particular are excellent players in my opinion.

Agree3 Disagree6

09 Jun 2015 09:41:08
Im far from convinced Balotelli was given a fair chance EMS. Due to Daniel's injury was the main striker playing in a system that didn't suit him, nor was he playing in a team that was playing well. For me, if Brendan was going to use him, then he should have been used in a system that suited his strengths, not a system that didn't.

Agree3 Disagree2

09 Jun 2015 10:35:17
It might not be his fault our style doesn't fit him but he still played a lot of games at the start of the season and didn't contribute.
We can't change the formation everytime a player doesn't adapt, what else do you do with an underperforming player?

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Jun 2015 10:56:51
The usual BR is to be blamed for everything song. I think BR has a lot of responsibility for what happened last season (and said many times he should go) and especially for poor signings but you cannot both blame him for poor signings and then say at the same sentence that the signings were actually good but didn't perform because of his poor tactics. I actually think that playing Can in the defence showed and also improved some of his defensive skills and made him a better player - and I think this is one decision that BR should get credit for (which he obsviously would not because of this new player must be playing in the position he played when he was born fantaicism). Balotelli and Markovich were very poor signings in my view. Manquillo, Moreno and Lallana dissapointing. Of all this group the only ones I can see improving next season is Lallana.

Agree2 Disagree1

09 Jun 2015 13:53:24
Some of the signings like Can( superb talent), Moreno, Lambert, Marko and Lovren (all need time) and lallana (most skillful English player in the PL, IMO) are actually very good players that need guidance so all wasn`t lost on that front. The issue was/is that they are underperforming because the manager has no idea how to make them tick and get the best out of them which mind you, is the fundamental duty of any coach in any sport. Playing them in the positions they will thrive in would be a start. Hence, he bought these players and they are very good bar Balo who IMO, was a gamble that failed BU it is his job to get them settled and put them in a position to succeed which he has failed to do. Worse, he has acheived the very opposite of that.

@ Brisbane

Balotelli was given more than enough opportunities and failed - failed to score, failed to contribute, failed to work hard, failed to graft, failed to do anything positive. He has been an abject failure and should never have been signed - his attitude is completely wrong - what makes it worse is this was common knowledge yet we still pursued a deal anyway, absolute madness.

@EMS

Manquillo looked rash and unable to stick to position himself properly. However, as he was given few games difficult to judge. Moreno has been a huge disappointment - his defensive game has poor and his concentration errant leading to highly important goals being conceded: the lad needs to buck his ideas up in a big way, it will not be acceptable for him to have another season like the last. I think only Lallana really stood out as being a player who could make a difference. I also think Markovic, if given time and managed properly, will prove to be an excellent signing - sadly being given time to settle and being managed properly are something we struggle with as a club.

Eds , would Liverpool be open to taking loss on players? it is clear with addition on Ings, Origi and Milner that some players need to go. Balo, borini , Lambert, Allen perhaps also aspas, alberto coates enrique and may be skrtel should be leaving.

My question is are liverpool looking to offload the players on heavy losses? or do they still look at these as a part of next season.
could you tell what clubs are holding interest in some of our players? have any enquiries been made regarding any of the players?

also do you think its high time Liverpool Offload the players that are not seen as part of first team? do you think this window should be more about selling players?
sry for too many questions.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - we always try to get the best price we can, but it is likely we will have to take a big loss on some of them.}

What makes you think Allen is going anywhere? Rodgers is way too big a fan to let Allen go unfortunately.

Agree8 Disagree4

09 Jun 2015 07:42:59
Balotelli, Allen, Coates, Enrique and Alberto will all be sold at big losses for what the club paid for them. I can see us recouping a fair bit from Aspas, Borini, lambert and Skrtel. Sterling will also bring upwards of 30 million GBP so there will be a decent war chest as long as the club use it prudently. With Ings and Milner now done, the club should go all out for a GK and ST (quality ones) instead of wasting money on more mids.

09 Jun 2015 09:15:05
Illori i would keep but (and i may be wrong) i can't imagine he is wanting to stay at all as Ed01 said once we have done our best to screw his career up already. Alberto i would move on

09 Jun 2015 10:11:01
Malaga are my spanish team I follow, and I personally have liked the way Alberto has played in his cameos. He's often been played in a deep lying playmaker role, but also at time as a number 10 that pressurises the opposition. He's strong on the ball, good in the air,and has a very good passing range for a young player. I think he's got a decent future if he can get the right amount of game time this season.
I would rather we loaned him out again to a team who might be looking for a creative player and assess him again.

For me sadly it looks like both he and Ilori may be moved on. I've only been able to read reports on Ilori's performances but they all seem positive.

What you don't understand is Rodger's 'System' and his 180 page dossier !

I think striker business is over. Sturridge will not be sold , origi coming in signed Danny ings. Sinclair has been chosen as sub towards the end which clearly states management want to give him chance / it is trick to guage interest from bottom clubs.

I don't think management will even think about buying another striker, unless current strikers are out. too many subs to fill.

Same goes with midfield. Too many attacking mids.

Milner to fill Gerrards boot due to experience. There is no need for too many CM's for a team not having champions league.

Only a defensive player and replacement for Jones (GK) coming in.

It will be a summer of clearence. Happily we are adding them as early as possible.

Believable9 Unbelievable2

09 Jun 2015 07:26:06
Sturridge is out until November, so maybe a month before first team action afterwards? Isn't there some pointless International around then?

That's half a season. Sinclair should go on loan for a season for regular first team action, maybe Yesil should get the back up role, cup and Europa as well. That's another point no CL but we are in Europe.

Origi is new to everything, league, country, players etc. He is first team but for a change maybe we could graduate this young player in this time?

So I think a solid proven goal machine is needed. Ings will be great, better then most here give him credit for, shameful that that is. He should have to do it all on his own on his first season at a top club. Enough pressure already.

Agree4 Disagree3

09 Jun 2015 12:05:38
Will Sturrige recover and retain fitness? The £30M Question. If he had been available for the entire season, we could well have got 3rd or 4th. In Sturridge's absence will we gamble on Ings, Origi, Sinclair and which ever of Borini, Lambert, Yesil and Balotelli are left doing the job?

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Jun 2015 00:01:49
Ed01,

With midfield crowded and Skrtel seeming unsettled with contract would Can be a possibility. Rodgers likes to build from the back so center backs need ball skill and he has plenty of size and strength. Also some people feel he doesn't play quick enough for midfield spot. In you opinion would center back work for him with Sakho?

Thanks.

Believable1 Unbelievable5

{Ed001's Note - not for me, he got torn apart repeatedly at the back.}

{Ed001's Note - sadly I think McLaughlin has missed his chance now, this season was the one if he was going to make the breakthrough, but Manquillo was brought in and Can played there too. I think he will end up dropping down the leagues to get regular football and hopefully find his way back up to the Prem in the future.

Brannagan could well be, though he is mainly an attacking midfielder, so I can not see how he can get a chance with the amount that Liverpool buy each transfer window!}

09 Jun 2015 08:22:58
Ibe, Markovic, Henderson, Sterling, Emre Can, Johnson and even Lallana played at a position more suited to Manquilio and McLaughlin. In addition, LFC have looked at Byram, Clyne and Trippier. No chance either Manquilio or McLaughlin will be at LFC.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - Tevez? I would prefer to steer clear, great player but terrible attitude and we need to avoid those. We do need someone with his ability and experience, just not him.}

09 Jun 2015 11:21:11
Why is it that LFC have to avoid great players with bad attitude but other teams don't? he was great for Juve, helped a lot in brining them to the CL final - do they have lower demands in terms of attitude than us? same with Suarez with people here keep on talking of him giving us bad reputation, I didn't hear anyone suggesting he Give Barcelona or gave Ajaz bad reputation. Tevez is a great player and signing him would be an amazing step forward for us. Cannot see this happening though. Too good to be true.

just read an article aldo wrote about sterling being "led down the garden path" by his agent. he's by no means innocent in all this himself but i'm sure it's true about his agent too, which isn't a surprise to anyone.

do you think things have gone too far now for any kind of a resolution that sees him stay? i know he wants to challenge for trophies and fair enough but i honestly can only see him being the english quota filler/ squad filler for the clubs he's been linked with.

he has not performed well enough to be anything other than that imo.

Because of his age there would be no sell on fee for Ben, so because of that it wouldn't be cheaper in the long run

Agree1 Disagree1

09 Jun 2015 08:19:49
Blocked, if its all about filling quotas, there's plenty of English players available in the lower leagues for a few £ks. Sterling is at least good enough (on his day) to be worthy of a place in a top side and therefore is worth a premium. Remember, the boy's only 20 so will develop yet, given first team football.

If it weren't for his and his agent's greed, he will realise that a club like Liverpool is perfect for his development. He'll likely get to play in every game that he's fit, with a brand of attacking football that should play to his strengths.

Alternatively, he could take his chances with richer clubs that are already filled with players in his position like Chelsea, City or Madrid (he's NOT going to United), where'll he'll likely not play as regularly.

Much as it pains me, if he's set on leaving, and I can't really see any way back for him, the best destination for him from a footballing point of view is Arsenal. He gets to stay close to friends and family in London, Wenger has always been a supporter of youth, and Arsenal play good attacking football. I also think he could learn a lot from Sanchez who plays in a similar position (unless we get Sanchez as part of the deal - a man can dream!!). The deal could also work for us if we can get Walcott, who I still rate highly despite his injury setbacks, plus cash as part of the deal.

My preference, from a Liverpool point of view, would be to sell him overseas to avoid him ripping up trees in the league against us. Arsenal are still a direct competitor of ours.

Agree1 Disagree2

09 Jun 2015 10:35:04
His best and most logical option is Man City. They have an old team and they lack homegrown players so they will be looking at players who are younger, are homegrown and obviously they will want high quality players. There aren't that many in the high quality bracket so Sterling will be of interest.

Nasri and Navas haven't exactly set the world alight so he would get game time with City.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Jun 2015 10:55:35
Agree For the most part zed but really can't see wenger letting Walcott go ( who's essentially a sub) and dipping in another 10 mil or so when what they really need is a keeper, striker and a combative midfielder ( not far from our needs)

City I think are his only realistic option I feel in England.

Can't wait to see him in action, and I'd he is a flop he's still going to be worth 10 million.
