Villa if we get past Blackburn .

I sense it will be a Gerrard moment the FA cup final, I know we have to beat Blackburn then Villa but I see us doing it.

Maybe there will be one last thank you to Gerrard if the team get him there. Leave the club you love with an FA cup winners medal on your birthday. We have to do this for him after all those years of dragging us to medals in the past.

Agree12 Disagree0

09 Mar 2015 23:15:14
Can't say I like that really, I would have preferred Arsenal and that's of course IF we beat Blackburn.

10 Mar 2015 10:30:49
No room for romance as far as I'm concerned, if we get there Gerrard should be a sub brought on for the last 5/10 minutes if we are winning comfortably, regrettably that's the reality of Gerrards performances this year.

Agree12 Disagree2

10 Mar 2015 14:57:44
If Gerrard comes back into the team and plays well then why should he not play in the next game?
You should judge him on his next performance and not previous performances this season.
Having said that, I do agree that we should not just shoehorn him back into the side because of who he is.
He has to impress in training like any other player.

Agree2 Disagree1

10 Mar 2015 17:09:01
Jonnybarnes - while that may be true that is what people are constantly doing to players. I think outside of Coutinho, Sterling, Sturridge and Henderson every single one of our players has been told by a large proportion of our fans on here at least that they either aren't good enough to start or aren't good enough to be at the club this season because of previous performances which as Ed001 has pointed out is mostly the fault of Rodgers early season tactical tinkering.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Mar 2015 21:11:02
Sorry but the truth is that Gerrard is past his best by some way and when he has played in centre midfield this year it has cost us games, we can't afford any more slip ups and I'm afraid, legend or not, he doesn't deserve a start any more.

Agree3 Disagree0

10 Mar 2015 23:19:47
I agree that he is not a guaranteed starter. But if he gets a chance to come into the team through the injury or poor form of other players then why should he not stay in the team?

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Mar 2015 16:03:03
I've seen no evidence this season that Gerrard has anything left to offer than the occasional free kick or penalty. Other than that he has been a passenger, and that is painful to watch.

I would rather take a punt on Jordan Williams than Gerrard at the moment.

Its crazy the way Real Madrid are a world class team but there players who leave I.e ozil, di maria are founding life hard in the PL

I wonder if the coaches at RM see there slipping so they sell at the right time

(Also to be fair di maria may do well in the end)

Believable2 Unbelievable0

09 Mar 2015 21:47:31
I take that Di Miara part back 😂😂😂

Agree7 Disagree1

09 Mar 2015 22:14:35
Di Maria is not a bad player, his game is also affected by those playing around him and United's players are not the same quality of RM ones. He did give a wonderful asist to Rooney's goal.

I have to say I really enjoyed this United loss. I don't know if we have less or more chance agaisnt Arsenal if and when we meet them in the final - and we have a long way to get there still, but I couldn't stand the possibility of losing to United in the final. This loss mean another trophyless season for them - our of my memory I guess 2 trophyless season for them didn't happen often in recent years. If we can somehow kick them out of the top 4 that will be so so sweet.

Agree10 Disagree0

10 Mar 2015 02:32:20
Di Maria is playing with abject donkeys at the rags after playing alongside beasts of modern day footie at RM. Quite simple to understand, really.

Told you all about Johnson eighteen months ago now.

If his heart was in it then, he would probably still have had a future.

The problem is, is that his heart hasn't been with us for a long time.

Shame in a way because on his best days he was a cracking player.

Still, best for everyone now.

I would take a player with less quality BUT with hunger and a great work ethic over GJ because at least I know I will get 100% commitment from that player instead of a player like GJ who sleepwalks thru games without a care in the world and who could not b arsed enough to give even minimum effort. Talk about a waste of talent.

09 Mar 2015 18:24:34
I think right wing back seems to be a problem area for us at the moment.
Markovic has been decent but no more than that.
I think he will develop into a good players for us but at this moment is he the best option we have?
Glen Johnson?
Where has Manquillo gone to?
Lallana?
I would probably give Manquillo another go to be honest.

Believable2 Unbelievable3

09 Mar 2015 19:32:37
I agree we have a problem there and that Markovich is far from impressive but he is the best we got. Manquillo is not better. Johnson? Do me a favour. Wasn't Henderson played there for a bit? maybe when Allen and Gerrad are back in centre midfield he can go there.

Agree0 Disagree6

09 Mar 2015 21:02:37
Bit of a waist for henderson playing there

Wisdom or Kelly would have been good there mind you

{Ed002's Note - He was always going to put on weight. Not a surprise.}

09 Mar 2015 23:30:16
Fanobip, did you seriously just say you would want to put Gerrard back in centre midfield? Do you want us to go on a losing streak? Gerrard should be nowhere near a first team starter at this stage in his career, he isn't up to it anymore and to say different is disingenuous to say the very least.

Ibe wouldve been there if not for the injury for our league games.

Agree3 Disagree0

10 Mar 2015 07:41:06
Yes but Kaizer, Ibe is not a wing back either long term.
Flanno is the only one we have where most people would happy to see him play and he has been injured for a year.
Are there any young uns coming through in that position?

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Mar 2015 11:33:44
while you may be correct jonny, i also don't see the 3 4 3 staying for the long term.

either way, there i see no real reason to find a wing back when we have players who could play there, with lallana, coutinho, sterling, sturridge, it is highly unlikely that ibe will get that much of a chance up top. it is better to spend on much needed positions first than a wing back.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Mar 2015 12:58:40
I would like to see an old fashioned 4-2-4 formation.
Ibe and Sterling on the wings with Sturridge up top and either Coutinho or Lallana just behind.
Can and Hendo in CM.
That would be exciting to watch.

After watching last night's game, I was waiting to sign into this site and see some Balotelli bashing, like usual.

Gotta say, it's been relatively quiet, so kudos to everyone.

Now, my point. Many people will call Balotelli a waste of space, terrible person, anti christ, etc, but every time for the last 5 times he's been on the pitch, he's been our best player. He's not setting the world alight, no, but he deserves some time. He's not misbehaving on the pitch (Ed002 has pointed out his behavior off the pitch), but there was a certain person here last year that dragged the reputation of our club through the dirt last season, and we praised him like he's our hero. let's get behind Mario, just like we would/should any other player.

Sturridge had yet another hair puller of a game. And from the first minute, it was obvious that we missed Joe Allen. Can looked like a central defender, which isn't totally his fault, because that's where he's been for several months.

The two most slated players on this site, in my opinion, both deserve to be starting.

Believable9 Unbelievable3

09 Mar 2015 17:34:09
You're off your rocker if you think Mario has been the best player in every 1 of the last 5.

Suarez was applauded because he got 30+ goals in the season having missed 8 games had a great work rate and also did a lot of stuff off the field as well as turning up to reserve matches to watch and give advice. Suarez may be a bit of a nutcase on the pitch, and a child when he wants a move, but he does ''offset'' that by being approachable for youth players. He's meant to be very affable when he's not on the pitch, whereas Balotelli I've heard no such thing.

Agree7 Disagree4

09 Mar 2015 17:43:40
Our best player? Sturridge with a hair puller? They were both distinctly average on the day.

Agree1 Disagree4

09 Mar 2015 19:38:20
Mario was not bought for miliions and paid millions for not getting red cards. He is being paid to score. His scoring per minutes of play for us and this include the last 5 games is shocking. Sturridge scored two recently and had dangerous shot on goal at least once in every half he was on the pitch.

Agree5 Disagree0

09 Mar 2015 19:50:49
I still don't understand why both can't be on. We look way more dangerous with two strikers; it has taken worldy goals to win recently; we haven't created that much.

09 Mar 2015 21:16:51
TJ I personally don't get why it has to be Mario. I think Borini would be a better option.

Agree4 Disagree4

09 Mar 2015 23:56:57
Borini can't even make the squad; Balotelli is better than Borini

Agree5 Disagree4

10 Mar 2015 02:49:31
The more outrageous thing for me, is that nobody would have even bothered with the Balo bashing had that useless excuse of a pundit, Lawro not used him as a scapegoat for NO reason. We were not very good on the day and we know that YET he goes after him thus, diverting attention from players who IIMO, we're worse than he was and a manager who got one or two selection wrong which is can b forgiven. To me, Lawro should b ashamed of himself and just sounded like a deluded bitter.

Agree5 Disagree1

10 Mar 2015 13:41:26
Borini has been ''Brendaned'' Sakho couldn't make the squad till Lovren got injured. I;m just going to guess you're one of those Balotelli nuthuggers, for whom he can do no wrong

Hi eds, just a quick question about european football. Can either of you see the Italian teams (Such as the two milans) recovering from their current slump and once again challenging in Europe?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Juventus are probably best placed. As for the Milan clubs, it is not dissimilar to the situation at Liverpool. I don't see any of them winning the CL any time soon.}

09 Mar 2015 15:39:03
Especially, AC Milan. They are in dire straits and can mostly afford free transfers, ATM. IMO, they are worse than us.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Mar 2015 16:00:57
What actually happened to the Milan clubs? They were both feared teams in Europe not that long ago.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Mar 2015 16:15:50
I wish some oil rich Russian would buy us and take us from being a small club to a European giant. But what happens when he gets sick of his toy.liverpool would still be big enough not so sure about other new money teams though.

Agree0 Disagree3

{Ed002's Note - Being "big enough" is not much protection against extant debts and the day-to-day running costs for a major club. If a line were drawn across tomorrow and income from owners stopped, Liverpool would be in a far worse position than the likes of Chelsea. Balancing the books and having a plan to erase debts is crucial. Come 2017 the value of many English clubs will be a step change higher and you will see a number of owners moving on - if buyers can be found. Part of the problem will be the lack of individual or group buyers for the higher priced teams; and that potentially leads to the worst case scenario of institutional buyers. If I were pushed in to the corner of making a rash prediction, I would say by the time a pan-European league is up and running (202x sometime), then a couple of major clubs will be owned by sponsors/corporations heavily involved in the football business - in particular I am thinking Adidas and Nike.}

09 Mar 2015 16:56:54
Thanks Ed002. what's going wrong in Italy. Is it just finances or are politics etc having an effect too?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - Economic downturn, corruption and other scandals, lack of investment, hobby based ownership, substantial losses, crumbling infrastructure.}

10 Mar 2015 06:40:27
Ed002 can I just ask, You know litteraly every transfer news of every club and even the financial side of clubs, aswell as how the game is going to change i.e this new league setup being planned, Do you work in football at the top like sep blatter kind of level, or just know way too many people. As your knowledge is the biggest asset to this site by far.

Can anyone tell me why there was 1 minute of injury time yesterday.
I thought 30 seconds was added on for every sub, we made 2 subs and Blackburn made at least 2 as well.
So why only 1 minute?
Just interested to know how they came to that amount of time.
Surely it should have been more than that?

09 Mar 2015 10:41:15
Does anyone want to see Sterling playing wing back anymore?
I don't.
I know he can but for me he has to play further forward.
I want to see Coutinho, Sterling and Sturridge up top for the next few games to be honest.
I like lallana but think he needs to dominate games more. He has the ability but needs to grab the game by the scruff of the neck more.
I would use him as an option for the bench to replace whichever forward is beginning to tire.

Believable14 Unbelievable2

09 Mar 2015 11:28:35
Lallana was a complete waste of 25 million pounds!

Agree10 Disagree33

09 Mar 2015 12:43:26
BR needs to be more willing to rest better players in favour of more suitable players. It's not fair to drop any of Sterling (whose been worse than the others but out of position), Lallana, Coutinho or Sturridge but only 3 or the 4 can play together and he needs to accept that

Agree5 Disagree0

09 Mar 2015 12:59:58
Lallana could play wingback, I played him there in FIFA '15 and won with Arsenal.

09 Mar 2015 13:07:07
Supermario, lallana was certainly not a waste of 25 million GBP. He was simply not worth what we paid for him. That does not mean he is a bad player, it simply means we overpaid by around 8-10 million. Blaming the lad for the money spent is wrong, aim the anger at the committee and Brendan for wanting him so badly and caving in to Southampton's demands.
Btw your post looks all the more ridiculous considering your user name is supermario, who imo has been the biggest waste of money and space this season.

How many times have these 3 players played together all season?
For me they are the best combination we have.

Agree1 Disagree1

09 Mar 2015 19:19:21
Indian, who's to say I'm not talking about the game super Mario. You shouldn't assume. So if we overpaid by 8-10 mil (by your knowledgeable calculations) then il correct myself, lallana was a waste of 8-10 million.

We didn't need him, he couldn't even cross the ball yesterday. He couldn't beat his man. In my book he is a waste. Good player yes, 25 million no. He wasn't what we needed at all, so he was a waste of 25 million! Anyone who thinks otherwise is wrong! Lol

Agree4 Disagree7

09 Mar 2015 08:23:43
Morning Eds and reds.
Well that was a turgid game yesterday!!
Quite poor from the lads but at least we did not lose.
I could buy the tiredness excuse because we did look a little off the pace after a grueling schedule of games.
We also had a couple of players who had not played for a while in Johnson and Toure.
We missed Joe Allen. I will repeat that. WE MISSED JOE ALLEN.
That link between defense and midfield was missing yesterday and it was vital.
I am not trying to gloss over the result or performance they were both poor.
What annoyed me most was that no-one on the coaching staff had worked out that we needed someone on Gestede's toes in front of him so that it was not easy for him to receive the ball.
At one point in the 2nd half they had a simple throw in and just threw it straight to his feet, after causing us all sorts of problems in the first half!!
So not our best day.
But I would have preferred to beat City, Burnley and draw this game than drop our standard in the first 2 games.
One more game to watch the red-men as well.
OHHH go on then!!!

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - To be honest, Liverpool don't need to worry about Europe and should not be getting tired at this level of the game.}

09 Mar 2015 09:15:45
I agree with you that we missed Joe Allen. I thought at times we were over run in midfield and needed to keep the ball better and to me Can didn't look like a midfielder yesterday, too many passes went astray. The most disappointing thing for me was how slow our play was from midfield to our front players and how terrible Markovitch is at putting in crosses

Agree4 Disagree0

09 Mar 2015 10:33:40
I understand what you are saying ed but this is the first season of both European and domestic Football for us in a while.
If you look at the schedule of games we have played recently I can't be too critical of the team for not being at their sharpest yesterday.
And the point that I was making was that if there was going to be a drop in form or performance then yesterday was the game I would have wanted to see it in (don't want to see it at all to be honest).
Not an excuse as we should be beating them at home but the games versus Burnley and City were of far greater significance in my opinion.

Agree4 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - I have little sympathy if the team are not fit enough. Liverpool have a couple of options the club could (a) opt out of European competition for a couple of years whilst Liverpool go through a couple of years of transition to get the players fit; or my preferred option (b) to introduce an afternoon nap each day. Perhaps after the players have been fed. That could be followed by a shortened play time before they are collected to go home.}
