Eds, do you know if the new LFC home kit is just for the 2012-2013 season or for 2 seasons like the last one? {Ed002's Note - I really don't know.}

The deal with warrior will see us have 3 new kits every season

RE: My comment about Suarez.
After 47 years, Liverpool will not miss me.
But, they will miss Luis Suarez.

Power to Kenny for supporting him !

Viva Suarez !

Your not a Liverpool fan then. Your a suarez fan aren't you?

Out of nowhere got the random idea that Rafa as DoF and Martinez as Manager would be great.

Out of nowhere Balotelli once decided to set off fireworks in his bathroom. Good idea?

If Luis Suarez goes. So do I. After 47 years.
I was pleased to see Kenny support him, so do I.
I don't do hypocrisy.
Reflect on US history, and you will see why.
Viva Suarez !

Our history is just fine thank you very much.
AnfieldUSA

I totally agree. We must fight any attempt to destroy our team purely to appease Ferguson, the media, and corporate interests. I too would not support FSG under those conditions. Thankfully, Luis Suarez is staying put, and therefore, it will not be a decision we will need to make.

Red Owl

So after 47 years of supporting LFC you fkd us off and are now are Suarez fan. Ye ok lad

From the US and not gonna sit here and defend our history haha bit of a joke.

We don't do things to appease Ferguson. Get a grip.

Red owl, totally agree. Any fan in the world should be strong enough to defend Liverpool and the fan base as a whole should thwart any attempt to bring hate upon us.

I'm with you AnfieldUSA. Proud Texan right here! No I do not ride a horse to school.

Hey Macca...
Do you think the owners will get talented players (18 till 22 years) and they will cost less than 15 millions such as Belhanda, Suseita,...? Especially that we've already brought many players last year , and some of them really we're bad such as Downing 20 millions!!

Suseta is 24

09 May 2012 22:14:29
Witsel would be a perfect signing, although I can't see it happen.
Hoilett, Dempsey and another forward forward player would be great.

It looked like a carbon copy of the FA Cup Final today.....

Bilbao players were young and inexperienced....They were nervous....so very similar to Liverpool in the FA Cup.....

LiverBird

No the bilbao team were fantastic and only made a few errors which Madrid capitalised on. Theres no comparison between liverpool and bilbao, their players are fantastic.

Lfc are better than bilboa

If we played bilbao we would thrash them! Look where they are in that rubbish league. Valencia are meant to be the third best in spain and our sixth best team beat them so easikyvin the champs league. bilbao are overrated

Look at what Bilbao did to United, the champions, (for a few more days anyway) completely played them off the park over too legs and embarrassed them!! We won our cup final by barley scrapin past Cardiff in a shoot-out,, losing to Athletico madrid is no disgrace

Any truth in this 3m bid for jackson martinez? {Ed022's Note - Not that I know of.}

09 May 2012 21:55:52
Eds how much was our club bought for by the current and previous yonks ? Iv Hurd Man Utd is worth 1.2billion ? {Ed002's Note - Liverpool is valued at about £380M right now.}

Be grateful. Cardiff's new Malayasian owners are in the process of dumping 100M of debt onto them in the guise of 'investment'. Binning their blue kit for a red one (red is the colour of luck in the far east) and binning their blue bird for a dragon (dragons are a symbol of strength). RED LENIN {Ed022's Note - Pah.}

Henderson the comb over REALLY.

Carroll either keep your hair up like you have done for the last TWO games for cut it down to the bottom of your neck.

Dude it's football why do u care what their hair looks like? Lol

Was just wondering if any of the Eds had heard anything regarding Kenny's position next season?
Gaz {Ed022's Note - Oh dear god haha. Yes we have heard lots of things mate, so much in fact that if you used the search bar your screen would be so full of posts about it that you'd feel like you were drowning in alphabet. Sorry mate, but it's been covered a fair ol' bit.}

I been watching Thomas Ince in the playoffs lately and cant for the life of me understand why
we sold him to Blackpool. I just hope we dont land up flogging off the rest of our good talent.

We sold him basically because encouraged by his dad - allegedly, he demanded fare more money than we were willing to pay him. Lots and lots more. Allegedly. RED LENIN

How much were we willing to pay him..5 pounds or something? I mean, he went to blackpool for money?
AnfieldUSA

I doubt he would have been playing if he was still here, especially since we have Downing (not a snip at him, its just that he is unfairly preferred to most in the team)

Yeah he demanded more money but he also wanted playing time, fact is we gave him about 1 start in the league cup

wonder if anyone can help? Does anyone know why Insua isnt playing tonight? I know its probably nothing but my mrs thinks she saw him this morning by sefton park. I know he seeing a girl from Liverpool, but just seems a little odd if it was him, and him team are playing in a european final.
Thanks in advance

He plays for lisbon who were beaten by bilbao in the semis

Does anyone else want to tell him?

The plastic armchair fans out for the demise of Gerrard once again

If we did so well for the period Gerrard was out injured as you have suggested we should have made Top 4 obviously we did not do as well as you have suggested, must be a trick of the mind so.

The Goat of Mendes
----------------------------------------------------------------

Considering I haven't missed a home game in 8 years and only missed 3 away this season, I would hardly say I was a plastic armchair fan GOAT, you t*t.

We were on for top 4 until the new year, that's the point, Gerrard came back from injury. I'm certainly not looking for his demise, it's just an opinion based on attending all but 3 games this season! McMenemy makes a valid point regarding healthy competition between Hendo and Jon Jo, although I can see KB's point in so much as we haven't got individual quality of Gerrards standard. Therefore if we said farewell to Gerrard now we would be taking a gamble. It may work for the reasons I put forward, there again it may prove to be a big mistake.

Either way, the argument has nothing to do with any demise, it's to do with his influence on others and the progress of younger players and the team as a whole.

Ozone

Well said Ozone, I don't like it when people accuse others of being plastics just because they disagree with them. Your argument is clearly considered and I see your point. I think that with a new team settling in and Gerrard still looking different class on form, it would be the wrong time to let him leave the club. But I see why people would have the alternative view.

Red Ollie

Our loss in form starting from when Gerrard returned is more a less related to us losing Lucas. This hasn't given Gerrard the ability to influence games more by playing further up the pitch. Henderson, Spearing and Shelvey needed Gerrard alongside them in order to support them in the defensive side of midfield as they are still young.
Also all the injuries in my opinion have had an effect in Gerrard causing him to be rested more often as seem yesterday. Also the loss of Lucas had effected Charlie Adams form as well however I do feel he isn't as defensively gifted as Gerrard.

Hassan

I dont think it matters about gerrard he is quality but when hes not playing the other up it a bit

We are buying Falcao for £35mil as a sign of intent for next season, and also every other player who looks decent in this match.

Copy and Paste this message a few time for the Ed's to repeatedly answer :P

P.S. Ed022 can you make player profiles for half the players of both teams who looked decent in this match as liverpool will be in negotiation's with them soon :P

Susaeta is not good enough...
Iker Muniain is tbh

Susaeta is good enough...he is a role player not a superstar...always available to help teammates and very quick to release passes to teammates...still better than our midfielders not named Gerrard or Lucas

You're right mate. I watched Susaeta closely in the game & he didn't look impressive at all. I have seen him a few times & not once has he looked to take on his full back. Not the quickest player & not the most skilful. Downing is genuinely a better player.

Stone YNWA.

Hey eds just wondering bout Suarez is he definetly going to go as yous have said or is there a chance he could sign an extension I remember there were reports he had held talks over a new deal

Thanks in advance

Red Thriller {Ed002's Note - I have not said he is definately going.}

Ed02 has been very consistent on the matter, giving an honest opinion that what Suarez did caused a rift between the club and the sponsors. Thus forcing FSG to consider whether they'd want Suarez to stay if it potentially lost them a huge amount of money. She never doubted his talent, just the unrest his poor actions caused.

Personally I think he'll stay given his talent, but you can't guarantee that and Ed02 doesn't either way.

Regarding the stadium, have you heard anything about moving to the waterfront and CiC(Chinese investment corporation) being involved?

I did a while ago. There was also an article posted on here regarding the same and an argument levelled at one of the chief planners at the city council (a bluenose) who seems to want to sabotage any Anfield refurb/ Stanley Park development in favour of a ground share waterfront scheme with Everton. It's argued that this would be a lifeline financially for the bitters.

Kenny gone inside two weeks.

Told that he was made aware of this when Comolli was sacked, but due to us having a Wembley final, he was given till the summer.

He WILL be gone in 2 weeks. You heard this aswell yet Macca?

Its a shame you didnt put your name so when it comes true we can all praise your inside knowledge unless your just guessing it will be 2 week and thats why you didnt leave your name just in case it didnt come true ill have a go kenny might get sacked or move upstairs or he might be given another year has any 1 else heard this

Then I hope FSG are planning to sell up in the Summer because real fans will murder them if that happens

I saw Suarez message on Twitter which says "nice to say fans goodbye to the fans this way".

Well that's just because its the last home game of the season and "this way" means convincingly beating a top side 4-1 after a lot of sub-par performances at home this tenure. I don't say he will stay or he will leave since U never know and I will be honestly gutted if he will leave. But aren't we all when Spanish girl left us. Well this is def not comparable to that one nevertheless players can always be replaced but my only fear is it destabilizes whatever team chemistry we have.

we should have followed up our interest in diego last year , 8mil he went there 4, considering what kenny has wasted last summer

Diego is one of the most destructive, greedy and arrogant footballers in world football. Not doubting his talent, but I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole.

I agree we shouldve got deigo 5goldstars mate. but , as far as i know , deigos only on loan at athletico , so maybe still a chance for us . maybe eds can confirm this. also , i seem to remember , eds saying athletico had already made an offer to make the move permenant. godbless 96 all reds. steviep62

What do you think about: Jonjo Shelvey > new Xabi Alonso
Jordan Henderson > new Steven Gerrard
or Jay Spearing > new Javier Mascherano?
Esna

Ha ha to all three.

I like Jordan and Jonjo, but neither is likely to become world class. Comparing Jay to Masch is a joke mate, surely your not serious?

Papa G

LOL never mate i would rather it be..
Jonjo Shelvery > the new Jonjo Shelvey
Jordan Henderson > the new Jordan Henderson

Forget about jay spearing he does not have the quality for LFC, but i rate him because he plays his heart out anytime he has a chance.

No players are the same

The first two are almost irreplaceable and the third just no. Lucas yes, Spearing never.

Why must a player be a new ________ why can't they just play in there own style without the constant comparisons.

-McMenemy {Ed022's Note - I agree.}

What is this obsession with players being the new someone else? It can lead to a lot of pressure if a player is expected to do what Gerrard has done for us over the years, for example. {Ed022's Note - I find if a player is compared to another player, they aren't actually anything like them.}

I think you are asking to be ridiculed

I thought after Gerrard haile Traore as the new Desailly and Cherouy as the new Zidane.

No one even bothered with it anymore

So are there any complications with the candidates?
Or have the owners decided to go WITHOUT a DoF?
And maybe bring Rafa back?

We should retire King Kenny, sell Pepe, Gerrard, Suarez, Henderson, Downing, Adam, Johnson, retire Carra, sell Doni, Jones, Kuyt etc etc. Get a new manager, new chief exec, new board, new ground, increase our debt by spending 200 million on three players! Lest we forget how badly our infrastructure was damaged by the cowboys and how close we came to oblivion. Carry on Kenny and lets keep rebuilding, maybe we won't hit the woodwork as much, not miss penalties and benefit from some more luck. Unfortunately for some success has to be gained immediately. Some of us have been around long enough to have more patience.

09 May 2012 18:51:28
I don't think it's any coincidence that we've played our best football during jan 2011 - dec 2011, during which Stephen Gerrard was out injured for the majority of the games. This was again illustrated last night.

Personally, I think the players, specifically the younger lads, feel on an even pegging with each other and aren't intimidated when Gerrards not playing. Carras more effective as a captain and doesn't have that mardy way when mistakes are made, although as a player I think he is at the end of his days. The captaincy should be given to Martin Skrtle.

This maybe controversial but I feel we will never compete at the highest level untill we move on from the Gerrard era. He will always be a legend but there comes a point when you have to move on and I think that time has come. The longer it drags on, the longer we will languish in mid table.

Kenny got it wrong in the FA cup final accommodating Gerrard. He opted for the 451 to nullify their midfield, although the 442 would've worked fine with Shelvey and Hendersons energy, as was seen last night.

Like it or lump it chaps, we play better as a team without Gerrard. United had a similar problem with Byan Robson. It wasn't untill they moved on from him that they won their first league title for years.

Ozone

I totally agree if this was any other club SG wudda been gone ages ago.Utd&Arsenal moved on player's when there time was up we are just to loyal at time's.SG is a legend&always will be but we have to start thinking of a future without him&we have to start now...YNWA!!

Utd had Ince and a young Roy Keane before they were able to move on, Ozone mate. None of our midfield, as much as I like them, are in Gerrard's class.
I understand this argument, but the man still has another couple of years in him yet. I don't think we're good enough to let him go, as may have happened in days of yore.
The Real KB

Every time we start to write of Gerrard he do something spectacular (Everton 3-0) but I understand that players will look at Gerrard and think good god I'm next to a legend. Henderson and Shelvey would have a friendly rivalry at that age and that will bring the best out of there game.

I would not write off Gerrard and the captaincy should stay put for now but if a young player like a Lucas proves themselves then maybe a
vice-captain ship should provided

-McMenemy

The plastic armchair fans out for the demise of Gerrard once again

If we did so well for the period Gerrard was out injured as you have suggested we should have made Top 4 obviously we did not do as well as you have suggested, must be a trick of the mind so.

The Goat of Mendes

Gerrard can still play! His range of passing is still the best at the club, but his injuries (if he keeps getting them) will cut his career short. He needs to pack in England & play a bit deeper for Liverpool.Let Hendo or Shelvey do the running, Gerrard can be the quarterback. Sell Adam now that Shelvey has stepped up and use the money to invest in a quality midfielder. Competition for placez is good. Gerrard,Shelvey,Hendo, Lucas and another sounds good to me.

The Irish Rover

@the goat of mendes, wasn't we 4 points off fourth just behind arsenal up until january 3rd when we lost 3-0 to man city, thereafter we've fallen apart? stevie g came back as a sub the game before at home to newcastle by the way....
i also agree with the original poster that there is a problem in regards to younger players expressing themselves when stevie plays. his presence seems to make them hold back, probably a consequence of the times they've witnessed stevie have his 'untouchable' days during games and undoubtedly during training sessions too.
i felt that lucas subsequently matured in the period when stevie wasn't there to take the shackles for everyone and was having his best season while stevie was injured.
i'm not saying the door should be shown but the tempo sometimes seems higher when he's not playing?
i also think that he could in turn change this situation, a captain should be someone they look up to but also someone that sees the stuff they do well and consistantly encourage them for it during games.
an average day at stevie's office as captain doesn't mean to say he can't vocally get an extra 10% out of the players around him. as he gets older the captain's armband for him should evolve like his football brain, the legs may slow down but you see the game quicker and that should be passed on to the players around him.

Ozone - agreed

Puzzled

Gerrard cannot play the deeper role. Where is the sense in that? Why would a player who's game has been based on driving forward and supporting strikers be able to perform the bouncer in front of the defence just because he's ageing. Throw Lucas in with Shelvey and Hendo and we Potentially have one of he best midfield trio in the league, all 3 with individual roles that make up a collective and balanced midfield. Furthermore with no pier pressure on them they will only get better through healthy competition between themselves.

Ozone

Unbelievable...we played Downing, Gerrard, Hendo and Spearing in a defensive gameplan against Chelski's more talented and experienced midfield and people are blaming Gerrard?! WTF are you people on?!

A lot of Spanners in this post slating Gerrard ahh well surely yhey will be happy when he retires but wait they won't be able to blame him what to do then?

Europa league final on a Wednesday night, what a joke, no one is ever going to care about this cup. Should be if you win this you gain CL qualification, that would be a nice incentive.

That is actually a great idea and who ever won it would actually be CHAMPIONS

Dude a cup is a cup.... get over it. i will be watching it. should be a good game. thats the reason why english teams dont win it as often. because other clubs go in saying hey we can play in europe now. no its no CL but still think we need a better mentality towards it

It seems like common sense to me. It should be an automatic CL spot for the winner

Oh right. So the 2005 CL final was on a.....you guessed it, a Wednesday night. Silly silly post.

Is a European final for gods sake there's only two a season so stop moaning.

If you don't wanna watch it, simply don't watch it.

I will be because they are two good sides with good players.

Oh and it's a European final.

What will you be like if we get there next season ? Moaning about us being there?

Behave child, and if your not then grow up. The fans of the teams in it would efinately disagree with you.

Jonesred

It has been devalued fact, that's why big teams put kids in there.

It's been devalued by English clubs and only English clubs. No other nation's clubs view it in this way - the evidence of this is the fact they play their strongest teams in most of the games and definitely in the knockout rounds. These clubs want to win it and see winning it as a real achievement. Only English arrogance deems it as a competition not worth winning, for some mental reason.

Mr Benn

Look at the Atletico players celebrating and the Bilbao players in tears and then tell me it's been devalued.

If the Champions League final is half as good as that, it'll be great to watch.

Mr Benn

It wouldn't surprise me if the Champions League final isn't as good as that

hi eds may i first congratulate you all on another fine season, you have responded to every question and rumour i have posted so thankyou eds very much. now down to business i thought shelvey had his best game in a liverpool shirt last night as did henderson but it's too little too late for me as only 1 year ago we had alonso and mascherano in those 2 positions i honestly think we have moved backwards instead of forwards a area of the field i think needs strenghening the most, i know we have injuries to lucas and adam but still the quality is just not there with the excemption of lucas, (who might not be the same player after his injury). what is your opionion eds? thanks {Ed002's Note - We have seen that Liverpool have looked to adding a further central midfield player.}

Its obvious youve been in coma for a few years then pal, xabi left 2009, mash in 2010, since weve had the likes of poulson, and hes been and gone.

Quick question for everyone............

Which goal do you think was the best last night?

1) Suarez for the way he walked all the way through the left side of their midfield and all of the defence to force the own goal?

2) Henderson for the composed finish while being closed down quickly the remaining defenders and a keeper trying to make himself as big a possible?

3) Agger for the way we actually played a decent corner for once (to the back post) for Carroll to head back across goal to an unmarked Agger?

4) Shelvey for lovely technique to hit that ball on the half-volley from about 35-40 yards and keep it down whilst still hitting it hard enough and high enough to give the keeper and defenders no hope in blocking/saving/heading it away?

Suarez's

AG

Goal 1 but though beteewn it and number 4.
Shanio1

Jonjo Shelvey's. Unbelievable Tekkers.

Stone YNWA.

I personally like the how far Hendo ran to get on the end of the ball and the composure of his finish. -McMenemy

For me, it was Shelvey. He made it look easy, but I personally have a hard time hitting the net from that distance on a half volley, so can appreciate the skill required for it more.

I'd give it to Suarez though if he meant to ping it in off of the defender, just not sure if that was an accident or not...

RDL

All of them !!!!!

Baz F {Ed016's Note - Suarez for making Terry look bad, oh wait, Hendo for making Terry look bad........too many}

Suarez intentionally kicked it onto Essien...he changed the angle he was going to cross...

Hi all..
Great result last night!
Agger is a class act, do you think he could /should (with Lucas) play defensive midfield? he is such a good footballer and offers so much more than being a quality center half..
I'm not sure if some of you have mentioned this before, sorry if you have

Phooey

Thanks phooey finally some one with the same idea as me. I've been sayin it for the last two weeks but people keep sh!.ing on the idea saying he wouldn't last in midfield with his injury problems but personally I would love to see him given a go and that would free up a space for coats

Eric the red

No why would you play him in cm when he is doing well in cb. the fact is you play your best players in their best positions unless there is a gap in the team, which there is not in cm.
derryred

Yeh great result against chelsea's reserves grow up and see the bigger picture i'm sure if chelsea wanted to win that match they would have done so very easy remember you are a second rate football team these days. fact jonnytrueEFCblue

Hi Derry.
I thought we have been looking for someone to fill lucas's position since November?

Phooey

You would know about 2nd rate Jonny! Bitter

Phooey

I said coates should have....

Yeah lets stick our most accomplished defender in midfield, cos he could do a job. While we're at it play Gerrard at right back, we know he can do a good job, and stick Carroll in goal, by all accounts he would do a good job. Anyone else? Oh yeah we can stick Johnson right wing. I think we should buy Soldado but you'd probably want him at left back.

Jonny have u got to a couple of finals mate. come back when u win one, thats history lad

With Lucas still out I would consider playing Coates or Dagger at defensive midfield and the other at cb with Skrtel

Hi eds

More of a question than a rumour, and I would really like your insight based on all that you know

I know the future of Kenny has been covered a lot recently by you guys, but reading his quotes today stating he thinks its been a good season, winning the ermm Carling Cup, and getting back Europe (where no doubt if he is still the manager, he will be complaining about tiredness from fixture pile up) and we have finished at best 8th...I for one think its not been a good season at all...without going off on a rant, in your opinion eds as mentioned earlier based on what you know, and your gut feelings, you don't think the owners will agree, do you? And if not is Kenny trying to delude us or himself?

Would appreciate your input on this

Cheers

Ray {Ed002's Note - I expect that there will be much to discuss when the season is over. The main objective has been missed by a long way - so I doubt the owners see this as a success.}

Ed2 you do do some great work on here but sometimes you let on that you know more than you........let on.

From luis twitter...
Very happy for yesterday's victory and being able to say goodbye to our supporters this way. THANKS TO ALL !.

Calm down everyone¦¦Don't get the message lost in translation.
What Luis said is I don't like sheep, I don't ever talk to them. HELLO PINK ELEPHANTS!
This is a common form of language in Uruguay and not offensive in the slightest to anyone let alone does it mean what you think it does.
As for the waving at least he put his hand out his time!
No-one knows what is in store for Luis stay OR leave. Only he and the club know if a decision has been made and we will only find out once it's officially announced. Hopefully he'll stay but if he goes LFC will move on as we have in the past. As the poster below said we are only 4 games off 4th spot and a lot off positives to now take into next season.

09 May 2012 16:39:56
Everyone saying it has been a terrible season, and yes the final position is poor, however this was always going to be the begining of a long term rebuilding project.
And I would also like to point out that the whole year was not that bad, we have just had a nightmare 3 months. Check the league table for the end of January.

http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/premier-league/2011-2012/table/2012-01-31

We were ahead of the gunners and just 4 points off the champions league places in 5th, behind chelsea.
The first half of the season we were using Adam, Lucas and Henderson and despite some poor finishing we were still in the hunt.
Then a run of long term injuries to Adam and Lucas, the return of Gerrard the long Suarez suspension, and god knows what is going on with Enrique destroyed the mommentum and consistency we had going.
KK was right about the thin squad a few weeks back it did hurt us these last 3 months, to the extent that only QPR and wolves have worse form since Christmas.
I also think that KK was after both Young and Jones and that is why he paid so much for Henderson (another Fergie target I believe) and imagine if we could have played Jones as cover for Lucas and had Young on the opposite wing to Downing like they were at Villa? It could have been a lot different.
The fring players now need to be moved on but the main core is there, we need to have another look at the fullbacks and a right sided player as a minimum. If Carrol and Suarez keep playing and improving then buying a quality forward to sit on the bench will be hard.
If AC milan dont buy Aquilani then maybe a deal can be sorted with Elia from Juve as he appears to want a move, and that could work for both teams.
But lets not be to down here, like I said it has been a bad 3 months, but a good pre season a couple of new faces ( not nearly a whole new team this time ) and we will be a lot better next season.

Well said mate, correct on all counts. true red. steviep62

hi eds 3 quick questions

1) After andy really proving he is worth 35m last night do you see him leaving if a big offer comes in? I personally want him to stay.

2) Is the seeing is believing thing a new sponsor or just for that lfc legends thing?

3) Are lfc interested in bojan?

{Ed002's Note - (1) It is possible. (2) No, a charity Liverpool were helping out. (3) See earlier answers.}

How has Carroll proved he's worth 35m?! Yes he's put in good performances latley but a 35m player is one whos scoring like cisse at newcastle. Not saying he isnt playing well but still not 35m, oterwise they'd be a que of big teams after him and there arent.

Ok the season is almost done and I honestly say I'm reasonably satisfied. Take away all the stats wins. Loses. Draws. Pts etc. I didn't expect to Finnish above both mancs arsenal. Chelsea. Thought we have put up a fight against spurs and Newcastle had a miracle season so 7th if we get it is about right. We're in the Europa not champs league I know but Europe and a step up in competition non the less one trophy got to the final of the other. Exept for the disappointing home form we've done pretty good for the first year of an almost compleat rebuild of the team. If your all honest with yourself and be realistic did you honestly expect to Finnish higher than the teams above us with the squads that they have. Newcastle is an exception I'm not taking any thing away from them they have been nothing short of magnificent this season. And the players IMO are starting to look like a team. A few top quality aditions and we will have a fantastic squad even if Suarez goes which IMO would not be such a bad thing although I would like him to stay but he's a pr nightmare. He's dirty and although I do love to see him take people on I would prefer it if he passed the ball now and then. We would have allot more goals this season if he had done so. Keep kenny for one more year then promote rodolfo. Keep all the players kenny brought. Give downing til jan then get rid if there's no improvement get rid of the older higher earners and slowly phase Gerrard out of the team bring in new top talent to replace the oldies being sold and promote some youngsters to take there place on the bench and slowly get them in the line up. This is a long term rebuild have patiance and be realistic. Next season 4th in league. A good run in Europe and the fa cup and give the kids a go in the carling cup. Use champs league to attract better quality if needed and the season after next push for numer one spot in the league. I believe this is both an ambitiouse plan and a realistic one. I have no idea who were gonna buy or sell but as soon as they put that liver bird on there chest I'll support them and unlike most other people on here I will not judge them untill they have played for us. Sorry for the long winded post just giving my view. Thanks for reading if you indeed do reed all of this.

It is so essential that Andy Carroll goes to the Euro's. Not for England, but for us!

If he doesn't go, he will spend his entire summer boozing it up, and when he returns for pre-season he'll be way behind. Which could easily halter his progress into the new season.

Whereas if he goes to the Euro's he'll be training every day, will not be allowed to hit the clubs, and if he plays I'm sure he'll do well and keep up his progression!

So, come on Woy, finally do us a favour!

Stone YNWA.

With our history of players injured on international duty I'd rather he was used sparingly if he went.

Jonesred {Ed016's Note - Agreed.}

Yea true if he went at least it would stop him been on the lash all summer so there may be some benefits to him going

Time for a replacement for the old torres song, particularly now he's earned it...

They bought the lad from geordie land - Carroll, Caroll
A panic buy, he wasn't planned -Carroll, Carroll
He came on down from the north east, he's big, he's bad, he is a beast!
Andy Carroll Liverpools number 9

He took his time to settle down-Carroll, Carroll
But now he's king, he'll wear the crown -Carroll, Carroll
Defenders battered on the floor, it's in the air - he's bound to score!
Andy Carroll Liverpools number 9

I thought we had "Sweet Carroll nine" as his song?

BthekingB

Super great !

Sweet Carroll 9 for me

Great to hear the fans singing his name last night. You could see what it meant to him aswell - he immediately launched himself at an overhead kick!

Can any regulars tell me, is that the first time they've sung it? - Ive certainly never heard it over the tv before.

Red Pete II

Sweet Carroll nine has cropped up hear and there, notably half time against West Brom. I've only missed a hand full of games this season and thats the first time I've heard 'there's only one Andy Carroll', there was a bit if a sweet Carroll nine after in the Kop but I don't think it was loud enough to be heard on the tele.

When does the next liverpool kit go on sale ? (I know there is something to do with the date 11.05.2012 but i dont know what that date is for).

11/5/12 i think will be the announcement of the designs for the new kit, and open for pre-ordering.
im thinking....
red shirt, (faint)white vertical pinstripes = home kit
white shirt, (faint) horizontal black stripes= away kit
yellow shirt, red piping over each shoulder and down sides at the front = europe away kit.
shorts & socks to match shirt, retro looking, new crest ( which i have posted on sightings but not sure if it is up there yet)

Hey eds and readers just came across some info that i thought was interesting, should put the torres back rumours to bed

Torres was not actually very well liked at the club, he rarley got involved in the fun activities in training or any kind of team bonding, he also claimed only around a week before he left that he was 'happy and enjoying his football' infact it was a shock to EVERYONE when he handed in a transfer request, he would never be welcome back at the club as people inside the club say he burned his bridges

i also heard he had some kind of bust up with gerrard and carra wondering if the eds or macca could confirm this or tell me what it was about

cheers
great site

This would be quite interesting to know, I know it's in the past, but interesting,

Common knowledge that has been around for a long time

That is why gerrard was hugging him after his fa cup final win, cant we just leave it be he left. leave it at that without trying to smear his name further with bs. why dont we be thankful he played for us. dont get me wrong everytime he misses i cheer and after his humiliation at anfield i cheered further but lets leave it at that.

Hey eds not a rumour but just a quick question, what was the trophy jordan Henderson had hold of last night on the walk around the pitch can you or anyone else enlighten me?

Thanks {Ed002's Note - I can't.}

He won the 'Golden Samba' award for best young player, Skrtel got the 'senior' award.

I saw Martin Skrtel walking around with some trophy, I assumed it was his Player of the Season award? Though I know there's not been an official announcement about him winning that yet... If it was, perhaps Jordan just got hold of it at some point?

Ed what do you think about the ............. row? Thanks {Ed002's Note - It is a subject we are not interested in discussing.}

09 May 2012 14:59:51
I feel like we have 8 players who are as good as the other top teams. These are Reina(i know he is a bit off at the moment), johnson, agger, sktel(sp),enrique, lucas, gerrard, suarez. That leaves 3 positions to be filled. I think carroll will become one of those players above but not yet. For the 3 positions my choices would be- playing 4-3-3

Striker- soldado/lewdowski
Attacking mid-belhanda/honda/hernanes
Player to play wide with suarez-susaeta/lavezzi/ramirez

09 May 2012 14:58:51
Think the stick Reina's been getting is more then a little unfair. Alright it's not been his best season with us by any stretch, but he hasn't become a bad keeper overnight.
Supporters were crudding themselves when he was linked with a move away. A bit of loyalty and support wouldn't go a miss for him now, which is just a bit of a confidence thing in my opinion. He'll be back as good as new next season so have faith.
Jonson

09 May 2012 15:30:56
Regarding Suarez' post on his facebook page that it was nice to say goodbye to the fans after a great win. Is he simply stating that its nice to end the season this way and come next season back strong, or that he is unsure of his future and is looking for a move elsewhere.

Just wanted to throw something in the mix and see what response others think! 09 May 2012 14:51:18
Hi Edda and reds,
Really dont understand, if it true or not, why would we even think about letting Suarez go? He is our best player by far, truely world-class. The only reason I can see for selling him would be cos of the trouble that has happened. The club must of known What they were getting when they bought him. We should not sell him, look at players like cantona and Rooney after the dust settles people forget about all these sort of things.
Keep Suarez!
Gaz b

09 May 2012 14:48:35
U saod suarez is of interest to roma, are roma pff there heads why would suarez want to move to roma from liverpool? No champs league football there either, nor palermo. Juve and psg obviously an option more si psg but i for one willl be protesting if he does get sold what a measage to be sending other players in squad or potential signing"oh come to us were building a team to take us too the top ambitions this smbitions that, oh but wait we will do this by selling luis suarez" crazy ol replace him but by who a team finishin 8th in league who of that quality is going to come if suarez goes wel get wirse no matter who we sign class act and one of most skillfull modern day footballers wev rver had

Looks like he is being sold.

We have some of the largest sponsorships in world football now. That money buys influence. The sponsors are not happy with Suarez. Honestly, they have cause.

Perhaps not the ideal situation, but that's reality.

We will move on and we will be fine. Just as we did after Torres left.

We also have massive support in Spain and South America where Luis is extremely popular, which FSG would be foolish to ignore or to jeopardise by selling him. FSG would also have to contend with the fact that in selling the club's best player they would be acceding to a demand made by none other than Alex Ferguson. There is no way that those of us who attend matches would ever put up with that. Sponsorship is one thing, but real support is another thing altogether. If a club loses its real support it ceases to mean anything at all. It's real support that separates our club from the likes of McDonalds.

Red Owl

Well put red owl

KevtheRed

Our support in Spain and South America is almost insignificant in contrast to our support in Asia. Why do you think our sponsor is Standard Chartered and not Banco Santander?

And without money from sponsors, how do you think we can pay Gerrard's massive wages? By selling more pies at Anfield?

How many goals did Standard Chartered chip over the Norwich goalkeeper from 55 yards? How many times did those of whose who attend matches purchase shirts just because they had Standard Chartered logos splashed across them? Obviously, these are facetious questions, but what I feel the anonymous detractor needs to understand is that weakening the team to appease sponsors makes no sense, because the worse the team is, and the less it manages to attract world class players, and the less success the club achieves, the less interest there would be from sponsors anyway. It is also worth asking why anyone would sponsor a club that played in an empty stadium? It is fans, real flesh and blood die-hard supporters, the hard core, who matter. Ultimately, it will be our voice which shouts longest and loudest.

Red Owl {Ed022's Note - The problem is mate, you may imply Suarez creates more revenue that Standard Chartered does for the club, but that's simply not true. Standard Chartered and Liverpool have a very lucrative deal and believe me, we're better off as a club with it, rather than without it.}

09 May 2012 14:42:19
With regards to Luis Suarez if Liverpool were to sell him, i cant think of another player out there that can do what he does on the pitch, every time i see him play he does something i dont expect, and for 21 million i think an absolute steal, if FSG decide to cash in i cannot think of one player for the same price who deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Suarez, an absolutely fantastic footballer who i cant think of a player to compare him too, Liverpool would be insane to sell him, and if Carrolls form and confidence keeps on growing then anything is possible.
cobra

I think hes simply the best player in the lge, so unpredictable, Be absolute travesty if he were to go,
5gold stars

If we let him go he will be a top 5 player in the world in the next 2 years. it would be a huge mistake

LFC is far more than Suarez. It is far more than Torres, far more than Gerrard, or any one player.

The club is on the up, and whether one player stays or goes will matter little in the long run.

That's what everyone says look at us now after Alonso was sold, his choice or not.

It's because most fans do not want him to leave and the thought of him leaving is horrifying!

Because most Reds fans, like all people passionate about something, have a hard time confronting reality.

Posters saying Kenny should step down earlier in the season got the same treatment.

2011/12 Summary

Well as another season draws to an end I think it can safely be said it was one of highs, lows, success and disappointments. Given we still have one game to go we could still reach 7th (poor I know) but overall if you look at it, the league position, possibly the same as last season, 1 trophy won and a second final appearance, albiet a poor first half showing. I like many of my fellow reds had high asperations for this season based on our end to the previous one. That coupled with our spending (which is still a net £37m, regardless of how the media portray it!) I had like most of us thought this would be a progressive season.

When I look back I still believe it was a progression, slower than I had hoped but still a progression overall. Our first trophy in 6 years, back in Europe after a 2 year absence, a second cup final appearance to boot - two days at Wembley I certainly didn't expect back in August. Yes the league position is poor, but I still stand by my belief that with a little better fortune we could quite easily have finished higher.

On this point I read and hear that we are 30+ points behind both Manc clubs, which is true. However to achieve top four we could fall 4 games short, yes 4! Is that target insurmountable next season? I for one don't think so. The new players have had a years experience and now understand a little more what is expected. They also have had a full season of playing together which will benefit all concerned.

As you are aware I am firmly in KK's corner and have on numerous occasions backed his signings, AC, JH, SD etc...for the potential they offer our great club, AC, in my humble opinion has improved significantly since the turn of the year and showed us a glimpse of the future last night and if we play to his strengths he will certainly prove to worth £35m. It was good to hear his name chanted by the kop last night - but can we not create a better song?

I also think JH, SD and CA will improve next season.

While at the the game last night I looked at our overall squad and thought the spine of the team is now in place, GK and defence, CM, Lucas, SG(?) if fit, JH if not. Up front a partnership that will only improve if allowed to play together. So in my opinion we are looking at 3 possibly 4 signings in the summer, but, and this is massive but, they have to be TOP quality and make a significant difference. That is down to KK and the owners to discuss and agree (hopefully!)

The remaining players, Adam, Carra, SG(?) younger players, Shelvy, Flanno, kelly, Coates, Robinson and Sterling can all add weight and quality to that squad which could see us close that gap of 4 games and the return of CL to Anfield......TMac

Good post TMac. Agree on most points and certainly that we dont need to bin any of last years signings just yet.

For the last decade, the team has been built around Gerrard. We cant do that any more so have to treat it as a bonus when he is fit. A creative midfielder to link with Suarez and another striker to put pressure on Suarez and Carroll is what we need, thats about it.

Red G

Great post TMac,

I believe you have taken the words out of my mouth....

I am sure many fans would agree with your version....We have seen many players grow this season....Suarez, Coates, Kelly and later Carroll have all grown significantly this season.......They have had a season under their belt.....They will be more settled next year.....

Many people blamed Kenny for going British...I thought it was very important because one of the reasons why Arsenal win nothing is because they do not have a British core....You cant hide if you are British unlike other players who go to other leagues.....

The next step would be to go for bargains and for 1-2 really quality players....We will get value for money outside British and this is the time to for it......

I would like to know why have you given Gerrard a "?".....

LiverBird

Sorry TMac, I don't mean to nitpick, but how are we "4 games" short of top 4 exactly?

Ash

The question mark for SG is solely based on his fitness levels and nothing else.

With regards the 4 games, depending how the weekend goes we could end up 12 points behind, possibly 14, so effectively 4 or 5 better results.......TMac

Tmac we lost too many points at home for the current squad to be considered good enough not to be changed very significantly. red mick tag

Spot on TMac. I was a severe critic of AC at the start of the season, I just couldn't see what we'd bought into. Over the last 2 months AC has started to show glimpses of what he's all about, culminating in the semi cameo and last night. I just hope he's shown enough to get the nod for the European Championships, which would give him a further boost of confidence and keep him out of trouble during the summer.

Net of 37m has nothing to do with the ACTUAL amount that was wasted.

After last nite Im convinced we can still snatch 4th. We are peaking at the perfect time, time for the doubters and fickles to believe and cheer the team over the line!

WE CAN DO IT!

Ed, I think you posted this on the wrong page?

Joke, right?

And that just made my night

Did anyone catch Jordan's round of abuse at the crowd for his goal celebration?
now tell me the lad has no drive/guts/determination!
piddy.

Jordan Henderson has no drive/guts/determination.

Henderson has been so poor this season, he should be embarrassed with that grandiose celebration of a meaningless goal.

He is young and deserves another season. But he is pushing his luck.

Ta for that OP ??
ED`s should ban them grrrr......
Piddy

If i played as many minutes as henderson i would do some thing good like him now and again, look sat his season as a whole he is poor, but he put two tackles in last night so his potential is coming through red mick tag .

An excellent and morale boosting victory for us last night was just what we needed. It was exciting to see Jordan Henderson and Jonjo Shelvey out-playing Essien and company. Both are players with considerable potential. Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll provided further evidence of developing an effective partnership, and both underlined precisely why the club have no intention of parting with either player this summer. There will, of course, be departures, but they will be peripheral figures, rather than those around whom the manager is trying to build a team.

Hello all, hope you're feeling good today!

Random and slightly off-topic but does anyone know if there's going to be a Match of the Day about lastnight's game? Or possibly where I can see some highlights? I'm just wondering because Shelvey celebrated right infront of me so would be good to see if I got a cameo on the tele!

Thanks for any help, Ell.

Lfc channel show repeats of the game all week mate ...dave d

It has been showing on sky's Liverpool channel 434

Caughtoffside.com has highlights too

Guys. Chill.
Suarez tweet did not indicate that he was leaving, it said it was a nice way that WE(as in LFC) could say goodbye as in the last game at anfield of the season,
Plus he WAS NOT the last Liverpool player to leave the pitch as the camera angle looked like he was. Later on it panned around to show the rest of the squad!
As I recall all the players 'waved goodbye' so it looks like we don't have any players next season.
Suarez will stay!!

We don't know what was indicated until the the 1st of September

{Ed022's note - Just wanted to say there's a brand new feature over on www.player-profiles.co.uk (the site on player profiles yes), which enable you to sign up to the site and have access to an exclusive 'members area' as well as receiving e-mail updates when a profile is being done/when it has been completed. It's all free, and enables you to use your sign off name etc. Cheers all!}

Cheers Ed022. Just signed up. Have a busy and enjoyable summer mate.

Hello Eds. If Kenny Dalglish would step aside (or "moved upstairs"), who would be in line to replace him, realistically speaking? What would an educated guess be? {Ed002's Note - This has been done to death already.}

09 May 2012 12:41:27
If Kenny is still manager next season I expect the squad to look a bit like this:

Gk- Reina, doni, reserve/youth kewper

Rb- Johnson, Kelly
Cb- carra, agger, skertl, coates
Lb- Enrique, ???

Cm- Lucas, Gerrard, hendo, shelvey, Adam, ??

Wing- Bellamy, downing, sterling, ??

St- Suarez, Carroll, ??

so by my count we need 4 new players:

Lb, cm (attacking), winger (rm), striker.

fingers crossed for a good summer!!
Add these signings to the squad above and we could challange for everything next season.

Ryan.

Agree, in those positions i'd go for: RW - Belhanda (young, skillful, exciting player whos had a good season and im sure he'd be willing to move to a good club, with history who can offer first team football), ST - Soldado (a goal scorer who wouldnt cost over 20m, and I think would suit prem football), LB - Cissokho (realistic and would offer good competition for enrique), for cm I cant think of a good qaulity realistic target off the top of my head but someone with quick feet and the ability to unlock defences with good control, passing and the be able to beat a man, maybe hernanes or lucas although im not sure if their realistic.
But yeah, their who I think would make us into a really competive side.
Reina
johnson skrtel Agger Enrique
Gerrard lucas
Belhanda, New CM, Suarez
Soldado

Subs: Doni, kelly, Cissokho, Downing, Henderson, Carroll, Bellamy

Others: Maxi, carragher, Sterling, Shelvey, Suso, wilson

Sell: Kuyt, Adam, Spearing, Aqua (if he wont stay)

Mr RED

Gk- Reina, doni, reserve/youth kewper

Rb- Johnson, Kelly
Cb- carra, agger, skertl, coates
Lb- Enrique, ??

Cm- Lucas, Gerrard, hendo, Adam, ?

Am- Shelvey, Teixiera, Suso, ?

Wing- Bellamy, downing, sterling, Toni Silva, ?

St- Suarez, Carroll, Ngoo, ?

we need 5 new players:

Lb, cm (Holding/Creative), Am, winger (rm), striker.

Out On Loan; flanagan, robinson, coady, sama, wisdom, mendy, Roberts, Adorjan

Luis Suarez official facebook quotes "Very happy for yesterday's victory and being able to say goodbye to our supporters this way. THANKS TO ALL !! YNWA" make of it what you will sounds like it may adios in the summer

OUR supporters not MY supporters!
So are they all leaving FFS. Wish people would learn grammar

09 May 2012 12:26:07
i just really feel to step up and become a force agai we need only 4 players luke de jong, xherdan shaquiri, elijero elia and someone gaitan this would be awesome with the likes of sterling and shelvey, suso coming through be awesome..... but dont loose faith in kenny, the best thing is give carroll, downing and henderson time theyll come good just watch there was signs versus chelsea

Shaqiri agreed to join Bayern Munich weeks ago.

im not saying suarez is staying, and im not saying he is leaveing. but that was the last home game of the season. saying goodbye on not only twitter but waving could in my mind meen he is just saying goodbye till next season.... my opinion ofcourse but we should not just jump to conclusions...... bostonredblox

What is the condition of villyan bijev in germany. Can liverpool secure a work permit for next season? Reply plz. {Ed002's Note - I don't know but they will no doubt try. I cannot see much will have changed.}

Villyan would definitely be along with Ngoo the strikers that are most ready/capable of being a squad players next season if he were to get a work permit.

09 May 2012 12:12:27
Some people on here are unbelievable, just like the press they take things out of context, let us remember it was our last game of the season at anfield last night, that is why Suarez was saying thank you and goodbye for the season, some of you just jump to the conclusion, oh no he has said goodbye he must be leaving, just trying to stir up trouble

Its very hard to acknowledge the fans with a clap when you are holding your daughter in your arms. Should Saurez leave I suspect the fee would be in the 35-40M range. Luuk & Suaueta and Gaston Ramirez would be covered for their fees. I don't suspect he will leave but even as we stand, LFC would still be an attractive option to many young up and coming players.

09 May 2012 12:05:25
Regards the Suarez tweet..... Read it again and imagine him saying it with his broken English:

"Very Happy for yesterdays victory and being able to say goodbye to our supporters this way.THANKS TO YOU ALL !!YNWA"

If he was leaving, he would say he was happy to say goodbye to 'LIVERPOOL' supporters, not 'OUR' supporters as he has done here.

He is just saying goodbye for the summer, nothing more than that. Dont panic! Its just Spanglish!!

Does Macca know if suarez is going to leave this summer?
Thanks

09 May 2012 11:56:29
Not liking suarez's last tweet. Seems like he was saying goodbye as he put it as he was waving, where as other players were only clapping. I really hope he doesn't leave as him and Carroll were starting to link up well and get used to each other. On the Reina front, my personal opinion is he won't leave. Everyone going on about Malaga, what are they challenging for? Nothing. Looking forward to next season now.

Perhaps he considered holding on to his very young daughter more important than clapping?

Tristan

BRAIN DEAD FANS
i cant understand some of the idiots who say they are liverpool fans,ok we won last night but it changes nothing at all, shelvey scored in an empty net so everyone now think he is gerrards replacement, any pro should be able to put the ball in an empty goal, henderson scored WOW, terry fell over and the keeper went down too early BUT he did take the chance, that game cannot influence our transfer dealings, they along with downing and jay spearing just arnt up to the standard required, its sad but true they are all millionairs so dont be too upset for them, i hope kenny does not let sentiment and loyalty get in his way or next season will be a disaster and 9 plus months of depression again, bob paisleys skids

While I agree with the sentiment in your post addressing the muppets as Brain Dead Fans is an insult!

The Goat of Mendes

It's insulting and ignorant people like you BPS who are bringing down the reputation of Liverpool Fans. OK, we may not all agree but guess what, we do, or at least are supposed to, support the same club. Show some class, disagree on opinions yes but do not think that because we disagree with your more "enlightened" opinion it makes us Brain Dead or inferior to yourself.

Cork Red Boi

Some fans here though are really silly and behave like brain dead morans with the things they come out with, its not just differences of opinion its much more than that.

Examples of the silly stuff

Slagging off Gerrard
Why don't they look for Superheroes elsewhere in the team to save the day why blame Gerrard when he can't always deliver.

Another example thinking that limited footballers can be made into world beaters after one good performance.
Henderson will never be a keane, scholes or Gerrard.

Downing will never be John Barnes

Other stupid stuff

Reina will never be Ray Clemence

Agger will never be Tommy Smith

Charlie Adam will never be Souness

Skrtel will never be Jocky

Enrique wil never be well any bleedin good.

Get the picture!

Sommerset

Its seems ur not too happy about the fact that we won. Get over it, our season was over a long time back, or did u realise this just yesterday? The players were playing for pride n the fans, Mr LateCurrent.
Indian Buzzer

To have a user name such as Bob Paisley , and then make so many stupid comments makes you the No 1 person , you muppet , both Shelvey and Hendo were just brilliant in mid-field , and took their goals very well , in Fact , Shelvey should have played last sat , and will go on to be an outstanding player , for years to come . ynwa .

Well, i for one was a big slater of Big Andy but i have to say i need to eat my words, Last night and in previous weeks he has been dominant, and put me in mind of the way Gomez went across in Germany, he couldnt hit a barn door till he found his feet...now look at him, he cant stop scoring.....Kenny did state he was one for the future and im doubting after the recent improvements if he will be going anywhere.......One good fox in the box and two decent wingers, plus maybe one creative midfielder and we'll be fine.......we dont need to lose too many players we just need some tweaking.....I know it hurts to see other clubs in the one competition that we pride ourselves on but seriously, at times weve mullered teams this year...Imagine if Big Andy and Suarez had been allowed to forge a partnership earlier or the big lad had gotten fitter that bit sooner....we might have had far more than wed hoped for, to me he looks fit and lean and im already looking forward to the transfer market and to next season.
Onwards and Upwards Reds!..........YNWA JFT96
The Guv 81-9

Good to see someone willing to admit they're wrong. Most people seem to deny having held such an opinion. There's such a culture of demanding instant success around now that there are too few 'fans' willing to show a bit of patience with players. Fortunately our manager thinks long term, and most who go the match regularly can see that. Fingers crossed we get a few more eating humble pie regarding Carroll, Hendo, Shelvey, or the latest scapegoat Spearing.

A question for all,

Do any of you out there (Eds included) know of any players (past or present) whos game is also built around nutmegs like Suarez'. I've never seen so many nutmegs, even when you think he can't possibly do one he manages to squeeze one in. There are the obvious traits, Ronaldo started based on stepovers, Carroll based on strength, Walcott on speed, Carragher on sheer determination, But never have I seen a player base his game around nutmegs.

On a side note, Shelvey, Henderson and Carroll were excellent last night. Lets hope Andy can keep up this detemination and attitude going into next season. Very rarely do I hope any of our players get selected for International duty (as we usually end up losing out somehow), but I really feel a couple of goals at the Euros could give him the confidence to believe in himself a bit more.

Tommy Walsh

Any player can be excellent for one night especially against a team that did not have thir heart in it like much of the chelsea squad.

It does not change the fact that Henderson, Downing, etc. at not up to the task

Your right, any player can play well on any given night, but at least it shows that they do have the ability to perform at that level. More than anything I suppose it sums up our season because it highlights the players inconsistancy. And also lets not take too much away from the performance last night as Chelsea only had 3 players on show that weren't internationals (Turnbull, Romeu, and Bertrand).

Tommy Walsh

Downing was a big fish in a little pond, now he's a average fish in a big pond, henderson gets better every time i see him, and considering he has not had a settled position i think we can expect bigger things for him next season. who knows Downing might actually be able to find the target next season!

Its this over optimism in the face of adversity that creates too much expectancy and makes a mockery out of the limited players we have.

09 May 2012 11:30:30
I think another massive problem for us is not only that our strikers fail to score, but our midfielders are not capable of scoring. I mean Downing 0 goals Henderson 2 goals Spearing 0 goals Adam 1 goal Kuyt 1 goal. Not good enough...

Shelvey 2 gerrard has a few... im not argueing, but we have a relatively young midfield when gerrard and lucas are out....

They all don't get in the box enough...
major problem all season.

Richards

09 May 2012 11:24:14
must admit i cringe every time this season i see carra in the team but last night i thought he totally bossed torres. Happy as hell for big andy and hope he stays. Plus i know agger wants to play at CB but he aint too shabby at LB.

P.S iam starting to miss Ed022 and Ed001 already.

Red Rout

What's happened to ed001 and ed022?
NotInTheKnow {Ed002's Note - It is all just ugly gossip and not a matter for discussion.}

09 May 2012 11:22:25
From what I can gather from your replies eds is that we will have to buy a lot of new players til next season as it seems that many will leave?! We also have to strenghten the squad beside all the players leaving! {Ed002's Note - You don't think any of the reserve players are good enough to step up to the first team then?}

No the reserves are terrible in the next Gen Series they were brutal

The reserves are not terrible, they are just young.

Red Owl

Terrible in next gen... yes getting into the semis is terrible and third is atrocious..... i meen we lost to ajax.. get a grip!

All the other teams in the next Gen were young and so much better than that of LFC, why makes excuses for poor players no matter their age

We were the third best team in it, kn*bhead! That's not bloody bad!

09 May 2012 11:12:21
Why not go for Hatim Ben Arfa....?
He is very good winger....
Can solve our issues....
we have good relations with Newcastle i guess

09 May 2012 11:05:15
Shelvey i believe could replace Gerrard in time, he just needs to practise his tackling

When Gerrard was younger he had to practise his tackling too!

dmedly

He hasn't got the engine of gerrard.

Long live the lion king

Shelvey is already replacing Gerrard , cant you see it ?
redforever

Lends you specs Mate, Mine only see reality yours are obviously Virtual

Redforever that you for seeing what I see. Shelvey is the ONLY player in the Liverpool team that would get on Gerrard's back when he messes up or keeps messing up. thats one quality he has of Gerrard, also he has Gerrard's shooting ability and runs back all the way from AM position to CB/LB position to stop 1 player so he also has determination. now its just up to LIVERPOOL to manage him as they have done Gerrard. I.E. treat him as if he is from Liverpool in a footballing sense.
CoolBreeze

09 May 2012 11:00:00
Hey Eds hope all is well. Just a quick one, Do you think that Carroll may be picked for England squad? He seems to be a getting better each game. If he had a good Euro he would come back in such good form. {Ed002's Note - There must be a chance he will be picked.}

09 May 2012 10:50:09
we need to get rid of these players: carragher, spearing, aurelio, kuyt, bellamy(only because of age). doni, flannagan, cole, aqua, they no good to us. we can bring in much better

Our best player this year wasn't even playing for US
Aquaman should be given another chance
So long as he is willing to of course

I think him and Cole would have both made a big enough impact to have had us a little further up the table

IMO we should never have loaned them when we left ourselves with Adam, Hendo, Shelley and Spearing (Lucas being injured so not counted (although he is on par with the said two))

Especially for next season with te Europa League can we depend on Adam? Hendo? Shelvey?
Whereas they have had great seasons and have both been playing in Europe

With Europa in mind, it's probably ok to assume we could attract some decent players in
Majority of players rumoured are being chased by Spurs, Aresnal, Chelsea Utd and city
IMHO.....
city don't need any players
Utd must follow our scouts and make larger bids
Arsenal without V.Persie will be screwed
Spurs I think will sell some players and I don't see many better ones comin in
Chelsea will be splashing the cash mark my words!

54D13R - **YNWA**

I wouldn,t get rid of bellamy or flanno they bothe have plenty to offer especially bellamy coming off the bench late in games needing a goal

How many true LFC supporters are there on here?

I's amazing how many say that Aquilani is coming back, that he was treated poor, that he should play for us etc etc etc.

1) He does not want to be here.
2) His attitude (especially towards training and preparation) was not the best.
3) He wants to stay in Italy.

If you need me to try and break it down into even simpler terms, then you truly have no hope.

54D13R, Aquilani? Our best player?

I think carroll has just finished pre season and is going into the summer break on form (is he playing to get a move to Russia)

09 May 2012 10:34:50
I think Kenny is perfect for another year in the job.

He's brought the club back to Wembley twice and ensured Europa football for next season by winning the Carling Cup. Just some of the big positives out of a very tough and frustrating season.

Whilst the league is a working/transitional progression, which was always going to be the case, unless delusional.

It has been made increasingly frustrating by injuries and out of form players, some of which cost big money, not to mention the cursed woodwork and Suarez's ban and negative media coverage, which has only added to the overall annoyance of the season.

I'd understand if a new man was brought in, but then i expect things to take about 3 months before the new style/ideas and tactics start coming through on the pitch.

Which would/could throw us out of running for Champions League yet again. I just feel unless a very good manager with a tried and tested C.V. were to become available then it might all be in vain.

I would like the club to re-evaluate this situation in January (Kenny will have been caretaker/manager for about two years then), if the league and 4th place is dead, then look for a different direction, if not, then stick with him.

John Terry allegedly seen entering a cosmetic surgery clinic in east london early this morning.
"doc, the hole between my legs seems to be bigger than most, why is that? "
whispers are he is also enquiring about having his tear ducts removed prior to the CL final.

Luis Suarez last night commented on his thoughts of the mersey tunnel like gap in terry, " Megs! "

Team selection and placment is good yesterday match. Hendo more usefull in CM. Agger doing well in Left Back . Jonjo doing well as DM. Carra was the main man . carroll look like he know what to do in the field. and Suarez is always tricky.

Henderson played cm against norwich i didnt see him during match, bob paisleys skids

Hendo played dm alongside spearing against norwich... hendo had a good game but was massively overshadowed by gerrard

You realise Shelvey was more advanced than Hendo right?

09 May 2012 10:04:17
One winger, one attacking midfielder to come in.

GK: Reina
RB: Johnson
CB: Agger
CB: Skrtel
LB: Robinson
CDM: Lucas
CM: Gerrard
CAM: Ramirez? 15m
RF: Suarez
LF: Muniain 20m
ST: Carroll

Can't argue with that.

09 May 2012 09:59:15
A great win and one anti-Kenny post.

Some of you change your mind as often as your undies.

Fickle.

DaveyBootle

Not sure about the undies part, mate?

Yep...

A win against a reserve side of a team who is in the champions league final means all is well at LFC...

KKM..

They still had 6 first team players that would get in our team and a 50 million striker that half of you would crawl across broken glass with your zippers down if you thought it might get him back

Reserves?? Terry, Ivanovic, Essien, Torres, Sturridge, Ramires, Malouda, ferreira - It's hardly puttin the kids out is it?
Liverpools average age would have still probably been lower than Chelseas last night with the likes of henderson/shelvey 21/20, Carroll 23 and Sterling coming on later on 17.

Davey,
I'd love to see how many of the 'fickles' are signed up to the ed002 Facebook appreciation society !

Judging by Body Language of some of the players during the lap of honour I reckon we could lose quite a few players...

Maxi, Kuyt, Johnson, Suarez, Aurelio, and Reina stayed on the pitch long after all the others had gone into the tunnel...

At one stage it looked as if Suarez was about to cry...

KKM..

If that is true ..I'll be devasted :((

Indian Red

So did kenny ??

Haven't we seen theses sights before I remember the same last season when we played our last home game against Spurs..

Players like Kuyt, maxi, Aurelio are defo leaving but others Doubt may be Johnson..

Bosco

I Hope we don't lose Suarez and Jonson, and I think kuyt still got some to ofer to the team

if only shelvey started instead of spearing on sat .. and carroll started too we would have two trophies this year .. on the plus side the commitment carroll showed last night was brilliant he seemed to be everywhere the ball was..unlike torres ha.. hope he keeps it up.. and well suarez is just a genius on the ball ..

Without stating the obvious, its not been a great season (results wise). However the performances bar a few games have been excellent - we just need a decent skriker with fox in the box instinct) maybe Darren Bent type player?

I would also agree with an earlier post that Stewart Downing is not living up to his billing as an out and out winger. We should invest in this area to make sure AC gets a chance to compete in the air

I'm not sure if we're too far away as people make out - we can compete with the best on any given day however we currently do not have a strong enough squad should anyone get injured - whch has happened this yr.

Fingers cross whether it be KK or another will be given the opportunity to address these areas - keep up the good work Eds/Macca

Newcastle fan here¦ I have been saying this since the start of the season, AC has not been given the service. Give the lad a few floated balls into the box and he will out jump any centre half in the EPL. Get a decent winger in a the goals will flow. Liverpool have not had a good winger for years¦

Riera and kewell were good just injury prone. i also thought risse made a decend winger

The last really good winger Liverpool had was Steve Heighway, John Barnes wasn't too shabby either

McManaman!

I thought Berger had the makings of a good winger until the Leeds game.

New gk
Johnson skytl agger new lb
Lucas Henderson
Aquilani
De Jong carroll Suarez

This win is good baby!!

Cp

So you would sell enrique and keep aquilani ?

Form is temporary, class is permanent.

On his day Reina is still one of the best keepers in the world and showed with a great save last night. Couple of bad games for us this season but he has earned the right to have those after being flawless in goal for so long.

all good players have dips in form, you don't just get rid of your best men for it!

x

Absolutely baffles me why anyone would want to keep Aquilani?! He's lazy, doesn't want to be in this country, let alone in Liverpool. And also the fact that he feigned injury so that he didn't have to play for us, Shankly would have had him shot!!

shelvey should stay and be the new gerrard! {Ed016's Note - I still don't like his attitude}

may i know what attitude ed?

Kaizer

Hes talkin about the attitude that he thinks to himself he has already made it and is a world beater before he has eveb started. RedTurk

Personally i dont think he is good enough of the games he played. he my have scored last nite but lost the ball to many times.hendo on the other hand will be a different class.
time will tell who will take stevies place but for me (and i backed lucas from day one)think it will be hendo who gets the nod and shelvy will be no more than a squad player or moved on

What do you mean shelvey thinks he is a world beater. he plays with determination. he never complains, i have never seen shelvey moan, groan or even complain on the pitch, so where is you proof

Can't decide who I want to win next week. Chelsea win and we skip not sure how many games 4-5 and go straight to group stage. If bayern win then Chelsea loose. That's always great to watch and we could use those extra games to give any new players the chance to play a few games together before the league starts and give some youngsters a bit of game time in europe. Can't decide which I think would benefit us more. Ps great game last night and to those England bashers down the page. When the season ends on Sunday there's no more lfc till next season so I fo one will be supporting my country in Poland and London. COME ON ENGLAND

So Kenny rates his first full season as a success?? WTF!! Is this how far we have fallen that it's a successful season to finish below Newcastle and everton and win the carling cup and get to another final. Sounds kinda like a Middlesbrough team to me!!

We will finish above everton

If you ask me 1 cup and 1 final is very good considering the state the club was in. if you said to me we would get to 2 finals next season last january then i'd laugh at you but.
derryred

He didn't actually use the word success. He said the fact that we added a trophy, for the first time in 6 years, got to another final and qualified for europe meant that it wasn't 'all bad.'

Surely a season is judged on league position? Any team can win a cup with a bit of fortune like Portsmouth or birmingham have proved. It's about at least competing for the league right to the last game and not being so far behind before Xmas that the cups have to become the priority

Yes many teams get into finals and win.. but look who we beat along the way in both cup runs.... and usually teams like psmouth dont get to two cup finals in one year...

The goal before the season was CL qualification; based on that, the season was not a success.

FSG are very ambitious; I hope FSG keep driving forward, and demand more from the manager and the players. There is no room for complacity; the form in 2012 was horrendous, and the points dropped at home was embarassing.

-Red Socks

I seem to remember Middlesbrough getting to 2 cup finals in the same season and look where they ended up! My problem is with the club in general as in manager and players accepting very poor league form and rating the season as a success just because of reaching 2 cup finals. A few players stated before Saturday that if we won the cup is would be seen as a successful season well I believe league position determins a successful season. If we finished in the top 6 but the points difference to the winners was less than 10 well then you could put it down to bad luck or just having the odd bad day which can happen but just look how far we are behind? How does our points tally compare with last season when we had to change manager? We need to see improvement every year but it just not happening. I don't have the answers but I can see Newcastle and arsenal and possibly more above us having spent a lot less. Is our scouts the problem or the manager or is it all dc,s fault. Are the coaches not good enough? It just seems that we have more bad buys than good and we seem to get more bad than the other teams we should be competing with.

I'd take pride and dignity in finishing 4th or higher over 8th-7th + 2finals, winning 1 cup(Carling) ANY SEASON.

Erm Chelsea were totally understrength and totally had one eye on the champions league final yesterday and we only scored more than one goal due to their glaring mistakes.

Lets not get carried away. It was a nothing game for chelsea...the only reason we beat them and the only reason we played well was because Chelsea couldnt be bothered.

All this talk of how well we played is dumb...some liverpool fans are so deluded.

So after one match Carroll is a world beater all of a sudden, Henderson is Iniesta and Shelvey is the new Gerrard? Talk about getting carried away.

And some liverpool fans cannot be pleased. seriously what were you hoping for yesterday?

x

You're a glass half full guy arent you? Carroll has been playing well for some time now, hendersons improvement is down to him playing regularly in the middle of the park - his forward runs from midfield will be so useful in the future, people arent saying shelvey is as good as gerrard just that he has the potential to be so.
in football most goals come from a defensive error to some degree, nevertheless they were all very well taken, anyone else think suarez intentionally cut the ball back to rebound and go in? hes got the quick thinking and cheek to try it imo.
im not saying this win makes up for the entire season but you can only beat the team that is put out in front of you which is what we did.
Nzl_red

To original poster: Have you ever thought about taking a job as the motivator in the dressing room before games? I'm sure you'd be very inspirational!

And about the Suarez goal, I think it was a mix of attempting a deflection into the net or luckily passing it through to Maxi. The goals Suarez creates from nothing though is unbelievable.

Thanks, Ell.

Im the original poster...im not being negative its just that prior to yesterdays game everyone wanted Kenny out and now after one freak result people want him to stay and think Carroll is the next Drogba.

All im sayin is to put the match in perspective. Yes a win is a win but just consider the fact that Chelsea were not bothered and they fielded there second string. Anyone would have beaten them yesterday.

Just dont get carried away, thats all im saying. Dont let it destract from the fact that this season has been woeful and embarassing and Kenny has been second rate. Dont forget that.

The OP is right. This match means absolutely nothing.

I think the entire coaching staff will lose their jobs after Swansea. And half a dozen players will be sold.

From what I have seen of them here in the US, FSG are ruthless.

Liverpool's No.17 - Maxi Rodriguez has played in total 71 games for Liverpool in which he scored 17 goals.

Goodbye Maxi, a truly class Liverpool No.17! YNWA!

Great intelligent, player with vision and good finishing.
Plz pass on that side of your play to our Downing he can be a top winger if he can have that traits along with his pace & dribbling.

I have nothing but respect for gerrard, but last night proved again that we play better and with more confidence when gerrard isnt playing, shelvey and henderson did it last night, lucas and adam were doing it week in week out, its time to move on the signs are there that great progress is being made, we beat both manc clubs, arsenal, chelsea 3 times, i would give kenny at least 1 more season he has to be given time to put his plans into place if he leaves its anothr backwood step, henderson, shelvey and carrol are going to be great players for us in the future. kenny needs time but the signs are optimistic
jaydee ynwa

Spot on Jaydee.

Ozone

I agree with you on the gerrard thing , the other players always seem to feel they have to pass him the ball.

I don't ever really remember Charlie Adam running the midfield tho.

Also I wouldn't give kenny another season it showed on Saturday that he's out off touch with modern football , playing saurez upfront on his own.

Get a new manager in with enough money for a couple of signings then were ok.
We don't need many changes just a bit of tweaking.

Also I wouldn't trust kenny with more money to spend.

LAVERS

What a stupid post.

Have you forgotten how bad we've been for 36 league games this season? Why are you getting carried away with one freak result. Chelsea couldnt be bothered last night and virtually played their reserve team...beating them is no achievement.

Dalglish is not good enough. Yes we can churn out the odd good result here and there but so can Wigan...they've taken points from us, Arsenal and Man Utd the past few weeks it doesnt mean they're gonna be challenging for top 4 next season.

Dalglish has to go. You fans make me laugh, why are you ejaculating over the result of a match which Chelsea didnt even try to compete? Without John Terrys woeful mistakes we wouldnt have scored more then one goal.

Next week we'll lose to Swansea and be back to square one.

The unnamed one, you are right the others as usual will jump on anything and invent anything to prove their case

Sommerset

I agree about the kenny thing but please show more loyalty then that to the man who has practically carried this team for the past 8 or so years. gerrard is electric. perhaps should be used more sparingly but to say that he should be left out is just wrong he can change a game he jst isnt doing it as regularly as he used to
derryred

Ive read my post over again and cannot see where ive said gerrard should be left out, i said we are currently playing better without him in the team, i was gutted when barnes left and rush but it happens to everbody.
And the unnamed one apart from mata amd lampard that was a strong team and look at all the yellow cards and nasty tackles going in, at one point terry even looked like he was going to burst out crying so dont tell me it ment nothing you t-t

Replacing Kenny would be the biggest mistake the owners can make......

It will no set us back by almost 3 years......We need a steady hand who is ambitious enough to go for the title keeping in mind that our transfer budgets will be lower due to potential investment in a new stadium.....Plus a good style of play......

I have thought of many managers and have zeroed in on only one......Marcelo Bielsa....but he is not available......plus Kenny is no less than him.....Just check out his record.....

LiverBird

No it will no set us back 3 seasons, we have the foundation all we need is 3 first team players(RW,ST,AM) and 2 replacement players/kuyt,maxi, aquilani(ST,CM) who will most likely leave. or replace maxi with reserves like sterling or toni silva.

Chelsea were tragic, but even so, we looked a lot more incisive without Enrique; surely the coaching staff would have to have instructed him to not hold onto the ball as long as he does, I do wonder what the issue is.

Hes very good defending but crap at crossing

I was astounded by Skrtles second half run down the left wing. It was phenomenal. Might have to find a new CB

I think he is good but at times takes too much out of the ball when he should just give it. for the price we payed he was a steal it was just unfortunate that he made 2 massive blunders at the worst times.

Eds players like matt phillps, suesta, tello etc are not going to play euros. Can liverpool sign these before the end of euro. Players like ramirez, cavani from other continents are not going to play in euro can we also sign them before fnishing of euro. One more question a player is sent on loan to a premire league club can be called back like liverpool called shelvey from blackpool.
INDIAN LIVERBIRD. {Ed016's Note - They can sign whenever the window is open. Depends on the loan agreement}

Soldado should come in, because history is on out side. I don't know what it is about Liverpool, but it seems as if we bring in Spanish speaking players, often world class when joining admittedly, and they go on to become superstars while with us/after leaving us (sigh) see: Alonso, Masch, Reina, Torres and even Suarez. Is it simply an increased profile that allows their talent to shine to a larger audience, or does the prem round out their ability.. ? Regardless, I'd put soldado in a similar category, ready to take that next step, and we can certainly benefit from it before we sell him to finance more mediocre Englishman. {Ed016's Note - All those spanish players (some are not spansih at all) were brought in by Rafa, and played in a spanish system}

09 May 2012 03:12:50
A lot of discussion about all the attacking players we need to bring in, surely a cdm is a priority. If, god forbid, Lucas were to go down again or spend a significant amount of time struggling for form or fitness we may well fund ourselves in exactly the same position as this season, decent quality coverage is a must in this position, for all his passion, spearing is a liability.

I think last night proved that we dont need a holding midfielder as long as you have 2 midfielders willing disciplined and mobile enough to cover each for the other when one gets forward.
jaydee ynwa

Well we seemed to do ok last night with Hendo and Shelvey alternating... teams never used to play with an out-and-out holding midfielder that's only come into fashion since Makelele. United have done ok without one.

Kieran

Seriously, one game does not a season make, stating 'last night proved...' is like stating santa exists because you found presents under the tree..Watch the city game, or any other big Man U game when they are playing a team on par, Park gets thrown in the middle of a 5 man midfielde and they look completely average. Lucas is not just a DM, he is smart and productive with his passing and we have struggled massively without Lucas, Henderson has the makings of a well rounded CM but Shelvey/Gerrard are front third players, definitely need some back up in this area

Your basing this on one game against an opponent who made more blunders than Blackburn Kieran ?.. a CDM is more than just tackles mate, he distributes efficiently and smartly under pressure in the back and middle third linking play..watch the FA Cup again, when Chelsea played at a reasonable level and Henderson and Spearing didn't know whether to s**t or go blind, let alone break up attacking play on the defensive side (thus dragging stevie G down the pitch) if Lucas goes down again and we don't have a reasonable step-in, we will be hurting, that's a fact

We had this guy that used to play for us...Mascha something ..? sold him to barca for a mint..but he struggled a bit there because the greatest team in the world already had someone in that role..but I must be mistaken as that type of player has been out of fashion since Maka....

09 May 2012 03:07:35
Meaningless result yesterday from a meaningless match. Chelsea didn't even pretend to try. They are already in Munich, mentally.

I suspect we saw many people for the last time at Anfield - not just Maxi.

Let's pray we make the right decisions over the next month or two.

For those who are non belivers what should we do, Yoda?

Great win LFC, done us proud tonight.

I look forward to developments on the transfer front.
Just hope some of our 'targets' were watching tonight and were thoroughly impressed by LFC, and decide to join (if and when approached).
Sure they can earn more elsewhere, but at LFC they will become 'true legends', and get to play for Englands most successful (total trophies) team ever.
LFC for life.

09 May 2012 02:44:09
I thought the difference tonight was that the crowd seemed very up-for-it! (Maybe partly because we can now kiss goodbye to the League season at home?)

Good atmosphere = high confidence = result !

Henderson, Carroll, Glen Johnson, Downing, Maxi and Suarez were very good. Shelvey played well and the defence were in control.

Only criticism was that Kenny could've brought Raheem Sterling on a little earlier. He was electric when he came on and I'd love to see him start at Swansea.

I was as guilty as the next man for giving Torres stick tonight but there's a very tiny part of me feels a little bit sorry for the Chelsea rent-boy. Not too much, though. Just enough to set me aside from those who want him hung-drawn and quartered. He obviously regrets leaving us for the Plastics and his next auto-biography will be a heart-felt recognition of how much he was adored at our "small club". Having said that, the extra Euros he coined in from turning Judas tempers my sympathy for the girlie-haired flop.

Finally, next season is our aim now and we really need to get our targets signed, sealed and delivered sooner rather than later.
No wholesale changes are needed but we do need a Defensive Midfielder (Hamman,Mascherano)....Lucas Leiva isn't a defensive midfielder and Spearing (sadly) isn't good enough!
A creative midfielder...Rasmus Elm?
Much has been made of our need for wingers but we have wingers....Downing,Sterling,Joe Cole(?)...If Maxi goes we should maybe look at the option of keeping Joe Cole?
We NEED a poacher and should spend all of our resources on getting the best we can afford!

Personally, I'd look at buying Elm,Turan,Isla, Dempsey, Turan, Hoillet, Honda, De Jong and Belmanda(sp). With a view to getting 3-4 of them.

The squad needs tweaking not overhauling.

Suso, Silva, Sterling, Wisdom, Adorjan, Coady and Morgan are good enough to be given at least a chance.

Kenny needs a bit more time (and a lot of support)

The coaching-staff need to step up and teach us the art of finishing.
The scouting-staff need to start un-covering gems.
The owners need to commit to one or two "World-Class" buys in the mould of Tevez, Ronaldo, Silva, etc. (off-set against sales).....Okay, maybe one World-Class buy!

The crowd needs to raise their game aswell.
Home games v the "bigger" teams create a bigger atmosphere and get the players more up for it!
Against the WBA'S, Norwich's and Swansea's we are out-sung and out-played! We need to pump up the volume for all games !

We need to lose the cynicism. We are very quick to apportion blame after poor results. Isn't that what "other teams" do?

Tonight we bitch-f***ed the Chelsea rent-boys and some of our more criticised young signings passed the test.
Henderson, Carroll, Downing and Shelvey were more than OK.
We've done the double over the Plastic-Flag wavers and also dumped them out of the League-Cup.
Small victories, I know. But we can build on this. Next we can beat a big team perhaps?'

Got to go now , but I can't wait for next season.

ANFIELDPETE

The only skill in Football that cannot be coached is the Art of Goalscoring.
That's why teams will break the bank to buy one.

You honestly think Nando regrets joining us? You really are deluded Pete. Last night you played well, your main players turned up and your average players played good. We were awful, our main players all had one, and our average players were poor. I felt sorry for Nando too, he must have been embarassed last night getting hammered at his old club. But do i think he regrets leaving? Not a chance in hell, its actually laughable that you think that. If he stayed he would not have won the FA cup, scored THAT goal against Barca in the Champs League Semis, have a champions league final to look forward too in 10 days time. Come on Pete, lets be realistic from now on, you have 2 fantastic forwards in Suarez and Carroll, time to get over Torres.

OsgoodIsKing

I think he looks at how we play now and thinks 'i could've been MASSIVE in this team'...

09 May 2012 02:18:54
Banter Page please eds

I think Liverpool next season should go all out for goals, esspecially at home.
3 players could be signed to achieve this.
Luuk De Jong
Gaston Ramirez
Roberto Soldado
Imagine this as a team to play at home:
..........................Reina
.................Skrtel.........Agger
....Johnson............................Enrique
..........................Lucas
.........Suarez.......De Jong......Ramirez
................Soldado.........Carroll
Obviously playing away from home we may need to tighten up a bit more with say Henderson or Gerrard in for maybe De Jong or Suarez. We just need to tweek it a bit more because as we all know the problem this season hasn't been the football we've played or chances created it's been converting those chances. Suarez started his career out wide and often plays there for Uraguay and his and Gaston Ramirez's creativity would be hard to contain as they could easily switch sides during the game. Luuk De Jong for all the goals he scored this season isn't neccisarily an out an out striker, although he can play up there, he is also very effective from the right hand side or down the middle and has a good eye and passing ability as well as chipping in with goals. This team also has more pace.
I also feel a few of the younger players will start to make their mark next season. Players like
Jonjo Shelvey
Raheem Sterling
'Suso' Fernandez
Jordan Henderson
All of which, and maybe one or two more, I think will get more playing time next season, although Henderson has already had a lot of game time this season. With Maxi, Kuyt, Aquilani, Aurelio, Cole and others looking likely to leave the younger players will have more responsibility within the squad and will play more.
Also with this attacking formation it might be needed to purchase or loan an experienced holding midfield player to maybe be more of a squad player to cover for Lucas, or, if someone like Conor Coady could maybe step up and really come on next season. Although Jay Spearing has fantastic desire and heart I do feel that he, at nearly 24, may want to move on and play a more consistant role in another team.
I've also heard whispers of maybe Rodolfo Borrell possibly being promoted to be Dalglish's assistant and that Tixi Bergistrian will be the new Director of Football, two men who have a great positive outlook and vision on how the game should be played and how players should be developed. Steve Clarke to remain as Coach with Steve Keen or possibly someone else working along side him.
I personally don't think it's a huge doom and gloom situation as some make out on here. A few clever additions and a positive outlook on how we set-up and how we play might just bring a lot of positive results and consistency.
All in all I've mentioned about a possible 3 or 4 signings but I believe that there maybe anything up to Six with the bigger demands on squad size with the added Europa League journey thrown in.

We will just have to see what happens.
YNWA

mikehoopersgloves

Umm, I like the signings but they can't all play at the same time. Otherwise you have 4 strikers and an attacking mid on the pitch and the only cover you hve is Lucas. I mean, hes a fantastic player but even he cant do all that by himself.
KiwiRed

Luuk de Jong isn't a CAM or CM and that team is terribly lacking defensively. We can't play with just 1 centre mid cos we'll be torn apart.

BthekingB

As the old saying goes, offence is the best form of defence. How about this as a team then?

Reina
Kelly Skrtel Agger

Lucas Gerrard

Suarez De Jong Ramirez

Soldado Carroll

BthekingB, de Jong can play as a CAM, as he has done for Twente this season on more than a few occaisions. He has also played as a right winger too. He is a class player and very versatile. I hope we can sign him.

Never seen a tackle like Essien on carroll today. Looked like he was trying to drop kick a door. Two footed challenge both feet studs up making solid contact over a foot of the ground. What are red cards for? {Ed016's Note - There should have been a few red cards, but oh well, we still thrashed them}

I detested Carroll but now he seems to have clicked what playing for LFc means.much better workrate,touch,control,determination.Very good performance tonight Andy.Keep it up {Ed016's Note - Always said he would come good, he just needed the support. something uniquely liverpool fans can give to a player who is underperforming to bring them back to a decent confidence level, that being said he deserved it}

I think the game against Newcastle (when the fans that used to adore him, turned on him so badly) opened his eyes and made him wake up to the fact he is one of us now.
He has been immense and buzzing since about that time and is starting to look unplayable - similar to the form he showed for NUFC that prompted us to buy him.

He also looks like has lost some weight, maybe he has been having extra training which is why he hasn't played that many games. We are now seeing the benefits of that training?

Roll on the start of next season.

The Liverpool fans who go the match maybe Ed. If Carroll had come on here he'd have had his confidence shot to pieces!

Kieran

I think big Andy Carrol looks an even better player than he was at Newcastle , he is much more of a team player , has added lots more to his game , and you can see him improving with every game .

Just putting this out there!
I dont want a single player to leave LFC this summer well... maybe f.aurailo and c.adam but apart from that I want to keep on supporting the team that plays the way they did today i have faith it will pay off next season... Does any other team in the prem work as hard as the Liverpool squad!?!? I dont think soo! The return of Lucas & The addition of Cavani possibly a rw too and I will be one happy bunny

Reina
Johnson/Kelly
Skrtle/Cara
Agger/Coates
Enrique/Robinson
Kuyt/And someone with flair
Gerrard/Henderson/Shelvey
Aquliani/Lucas/Spearing
Downing/Sterlin
Suarez/Cavani
Carrol/Bellamy

Agree with me edds/Macca?
Agree with me Liverpool fans?

Oh and keep Kenny too {Ed016's Note - Cavani isnt going to happen, many players will leave this summer}

The lads were phenomenal
One thing ticked me off though haha
We needed a fifth goal :P
Last time i saw Liverpool V Chelsea at Anfield was my 9th Birthday! 5-1, Patrick Berger hatrick..... I'm now 24 and that would have settled it for me to attend every home game V Chelsea haha

Being on Next season!?

shelvey should stay and be the new gerrard!! {Ed016's Note - I still don't like his attitude}

There's nothing wrong with his attitude. If you don't like a player who gets stuck in then you have the wrong attitude.

BthekingB

Well he hasn't been sent off yet, gerrards attitude was terrible at his age he was almost a liability every time he came a little bit like rooney with england

The kid will mature, and his attitude will change over time like Gerrard... he's got a great long pass, mostly positive play and a hell of a shot!

He doesn't get overawed like far more experienced players such as Adam, he's a bit cocky but confidence isn't a bad thing for footballers...

Richards

Yes , agree with that , lots of young players , starting with a big club like Liverpool are so overawed at first , like Hendo , but I think that cos Shelvey is so confident , he will just continue to progress , I like the way he wants the ball , will put in a tackle , and plays without fear .
redforever

Yeah well he doesn't like your attitude!

nah but really what attitude? care to share some examples of how a 19-20year old should act or what his attitude is like.

I like Shelvey's attitude because he will never hide behind anyone or his own accomplishments if he was to become one of the prems best.

09 May 2012 01:04:56
ive just read through some people saying that Gerrard isnt up to it ect...

that is the most amount of nonsense ive heard in a long time, STEVEN GERRARD is probarly the greatest player to have dawned the red shirt of liverpool. he preety much won the champions league and the fa cup for us. He never stops playing with passion and determination to say that his surplus to requirements is a joke and determines true liverpool fans from the ridiculous fans who dont know a thing about football !!

Your talking about a player of 6/7 years ago, he hasnt done anything great for time now, look at the record this season we have only won 1 of the last 14 games that gerrard has started, that is not single handedly carrying a team.
i have nothing but respect for gerrard but when he play everything has to go through him and its just so easy to counter, he has never been able to play fast one touch football hes always been a dynamic player, is was devastated when john barnes stopped playing but we have to move on.

Gerrard's been phenomenal throughout his career and carried the team for the most part. doesn't take a fool to say he's one of the all time greats mate.

Cuchulainn's Hounds

I agree, we should keep him, but use him as impact sub, or for big games, i dont think he can handle too much games in a season anymore, give some chance to the younger players

Kaizer

I agree, but he shouldn't play central midfield. Our moves break down before they have a chance to get started because he looks for the killer pass too early, and doesn't have enough faith in his teammates to find an opening. He needs to play on the right or as a second striker.

Kieran.

I agree...in the final we pretty much had only two midfielders show up and that's being kind to Hendo because half the time he was passing the ball backwards...Spearing and Downing did nothing...Gerrard had to try and be All-Action Man again...didn't work out this time around.

6 or 7 years ago? Your doing him a serious injustice. 2008-9 he was excellent, quite a few injuries since then, perhaps retiring from england will help him stay fit...

Richards

Look all the muppets who don't want Gerrard are not Liverpool supporters merely armchair Victor Meldrew's who look for something to moan about. There's more than Gerrard on the team why didn't henderson save the day last Saturday with a 25 yard Rasper to the top corner, Why does Reina get beat so often at his near post, Would the great dane who played in goal for MU had let that goal in of course not, but when Gerrard can't perform super human feats he's finished.

Bleedin Stupid Attitude!

How ingracious to the great man, wise up FFS.

RE:An Epic Swindle: 44 Months with a Pair of Cowboys

Has anyone read this book about the americans. what did you think about it, is it worth buying from ebay for £5

Awesome book fella, don't hesitate.

ConnorsLFC

It is a good read and presents an interesting insight into events. It can be a little repetitive in places tho and you find yourself thinking you've read the Sam thing at least three times in the same chapter. Other than that recommended.

Get it! You will then understand exactly what Rafa had to deal with and why he isn't a bad manager at all and it isn't his fault with the Alonso Saga, the Aquilini saga, the Barry Saga and the Keane Saga. Trust me, you won't regret it!

Hello eds&Macca,
Me and my friends was raging over KK not using Sterling before the last ten minutes, and not using Coates at all. Do you have any insight in why they are not used before when the game is perfect for both? Is it a sign that Coates is not considered good enough in the future for Liverpool? I can't see why Carra is used when we really need to think about next season, and then for me it would be much better to give Coates experience. At least for some minutes at the end.

Another question is if it looked like Suarez was saying goodbye to Anfield? And was there any other players who was?

Hope for response about Sterling and Coates.

I love this site, great work.
YNWA {Ed016's Note - I think the team was playing well, especially Carroll and he didn't want to upset anything, if it isnt broken dont fix it right}

If it isn't broke don't fix it? we were 3-1 and 4-1 up

08 May 2012 23:13:19
Hi eds, love the site! Just seen that the Bolonga vice president has said he doesn't expect any Italian clubs to be able to meet their £16 million valuation of Gaston Ramirez. Does that increase our chances of signing him at all with Napoli and Juve seemingly not able to afford him?

Mike {Ed005's Note - It surely would.}

There has been a lot of knocks on Remirez in regards to his lack of pace and we fine, but when you can play the ball as well as him, it's not essential

08 May 2012 22:34:07
Ed why hasn't Lukaku not played for Chelsea he seems like the forgotten man, I know he's 18 but it's not like he doesn't have the physical side. -McMenemy {Ed005's Note - Becuase he's not ready for regular first-team football at the top level given his age.}

Because he misses with a header from point blank range? (ok that was a bit harsh for a young lad)

On that list when I skimmed through, I know at least Rodwell won't be fit for Euro's or the Olympics. Someone correct me if I am wrong but I think he had a hamstring issue again? {Ed016's Note - something along those lines yes}

Konchesky and Joe Cole don't appear to be on the list.....strange?

we need maybe 5 signings with around 7 or so Out.
Anyway if G. Johnson Leaves i would b happy if we signed
CLYNE-4m-7m-Young solid british RB slowly move Kelly to CB.
Not sure for LB cover,
Clyne cud play ther wen Enriques out with kelly at RB. Robbo&Flanno Loan

For ST- Luuk De Jong-13m-18m

A playmaker type, in the hole player n winger like Silva/Nasri type
AM/LW/SS
G. Ramirez/kagawa-15m-18m
If not go for Demsey/Dembele/Sigurdson 10m-15m

RW- Belhanda/Susaeta/A.johnson/Hoillet (free) ?? 10m-20/25m

Maybe Rasmus Elm-CM for 8m

Just about all these signings would be UNDER 20m each!
Creates a strong squad with solid 15/16 players who can interchange with still a Strong team especially with Europa League
F5.

Would definitely explain why our away form is better than at home!

08 May 2012 23:37:57
Great performance and a result to match.

I now hope that Henderson, Downing, Shelvey, Carroll see that is how Liverpool are supposed to play at home, dominating the opposition, pressing high up the pitch, but more importantly doing things with conviction.

It's taken them a year, but I hope the penny has finally dropped for them. That result may have given King Kenny another season to show he can take us forward.

Henderson & Shelvey were very good today, and gave us a glimpse of what our future could hold. Composed on the ball, incisive with their passing, both did not look like missing when their goal chances arose.

Andy Carroll did everything put score for us today, that was what we paid £35m for. Won a majority of the aerial challenges, linked the play well, a good 1st touch, and vastly improved movement.

Downing was very good in the 1st half, he looked dangerous every time he had the ball, picked the right pass, after the penalty miss, he went into his shell a little, which was a shame.

RedSG

There's no way in hell KING kenny can be sacked now that HIS signings are coming together and playing some nice football.

08 May 2012 23:31:49
maybe wishful thinking but I beleive LFC need to be bold this summer. In my view these are the players to take us into top four next season and make a mark in the Europa League:
Cavani: £35mln
A. Pereira: £20mln
Elm: £8mln
A. Johnson: £10mln
Total spend £73mln

Out go: Aquilani, Cole, Kyut, Maxi, Spearing, Aurelio, and Downing for a total income of £20mln.

The above means a net spend of £53mln.

Suarez is the key to bring Cavani and Pereira.

While I am sure most would love Cavani, it is not happening so surely there is a point we can reach an agreement that this is the reality and to move on? Maybe the end of last transfer period?

Anyone else think Luis looked a million miles away at the end of the game.Hope he wasnt taking one last look around + stick with Andy Carrol give him games he will prove the doubters wrong

08 May 2012 23:27:38
I know people will hate me for saying this but i do believe we have some promising talent, but i also believe we need to follow in the footsteps of man utd when it comes to nurturing them. We need to loan them to european teams like belgium, holland and germany. Rossi, Forlan are some of the talents in europe, Ronaldo need i say more? and recently danny welbeck has been keeping hernandez out too. We seriously need to strengthen now and get the promising talent up to scratch and slowly introduce....not expect them to do it now

08 May 2012 23:23:41
good all-round performance tonight.

reina better, although goal was sloppy, not his fault.
carra/skrtl had torres in their pocket all night, jonno and dagger pushed on well. downing much better and maxi was really good with link up play. luis was luis, a threat all night. AC carried on where he left off the other day, a real menace(for me still not the way i'd like to play)

but special mention must go to Hendo and shelvey. both were superb, covering every blade of anfield, one sitting if other went.

for me they are the future, add in lucas just behind breaking up the play and you've got a midfield to last for some time.

and the reason i believe they played so well..? no stevie G looming large over them, especially for hendo. in his natural position he looked assured on the ball without the noose around his neck of a. having to pass to SG everytime or b. playing out wide right. shelvey wa simmense, rising to the occasion. i

this for me, spells the end for spearo. granted he's got courage and determination but he has been found wanting in the quality stakes, and not just the FA cup final. however that game plus tonight showed the gulf in ability between shelvey, hendo and him.

a squad player at best, for me he's another ngog, got some talent but not really gonna cut it at the top.

looking forward, we must invest in 4 top quality additions. 1 maybe 2 wingers, especially RW, a classic goal poacher and another DM to cover for Lucas. if not 2 wingers then 1 plus an AMF (talk of rasmus elm? he'd be perfect)

and finally, i really think KK should step aside.
yes we've been unlucky at Anfield, we've played some good footy but over 37 games its not all about luck, rather skill and tactics. i'm not slating for the sake of slating but for me he's been found wanting on too many occassions, the FA cup final as an example. after 15mins it was obvious what the problem was yet he did nothing about it till the 60th minute. this has to come down to his (or his coaches) ability to spot the issue and address. rafa would, mourinho/slur alex would, butKK seems to have too much faith in his players. and that is the problem as he doesn't seem able (or willing) to adapt to the situation.

i personally would have Rafa with rodolfo promoted to assistant and Txiki Beguiristan as DoF.

regardless of what went before, his heart is in the right place, he wants to win for LFC so badly and above all he has experience of this all before.

many criticise his buys yet overall i don't think he lost money for the club with his deals, given the constraints he was working with i think he did a marvellous job. with the current owners backing, i believe he would flourish. and like them he's all about stats so a match made in heaven!

seriously though, adding 4 top quality players, along with the outgoings too (aquillani, cole, maxi, kuyt, aurelio) i believe we'll have a really good squad to push us back up

i'd give the season a C+, given that we won one cup and final of the other. but the league is what matters and although i'd like to challenge for the top, realistically we need/must be in the top 4 yet we're nowhere near.

Sinner21

Agree around the game summary and off season transfers however you lost me with Rafa. His football, bar a purple patch, was not great to watch at all. If we are changing from Kenny, then lets really start afresh. I say another year for the King.

AK

Rafa NEVER made a substitution before the 60 minute mark!

Eds. Rumour is Carroll's form and interest only gone up because wants to get into Euros to secure a move away from the club. What are your views? Lucas' Dad {Ed003's Note -rubbish}

I think andy Carroll is going to the euros on his current form, theirs no English striker playing as good as him at the moment,he will terrorise the frogs in the first match on current form, if he gets the service. Jonny 71

Question

If we buy a striker that everyone seems intent on, who would you drop?

Personally, I wouldn't necessarily drop anyone. A 4-3-3 with Luis playing as a CF/CAM with 2 strikers wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

RDL

Drop? take turns would be better. if for example we buy Luuk, they're 3 differnt players, with different abilities, so we'll use them all.

Kaizer

08 May 2012 23:17:36
Glen Johnson had a brilliant game - probably gone unnoticed by many but his defending of crosses was very good, he pressed very well and distributed the ball like a midfielder plus his cross for Carroll was spot on.

Games like this show his quality - he gets hammered by some on here for the odd lapse of concentration but never praised when its deserved - I certainly wouldn't sell him.

Red Otter

No neither would I Red Otter but I guarantee the owners sell him due to his big wages.

No question or insight into the transfer market ( dont think anyone has any solid info as it's way too early ) but I am glad to see Sterling get a run out and hopefully now that he is 17 and a lot stronger hope to see a lot more of him next year.....
