09 Sep 2016 21:16:44
The new stand better be safe then.

10 Sep 2016 00:29:42
Just got to hope you don't get one of those obstructed views, out of 8,000 new seats nearly 400 of them have restricted views. Adds to the character I suppose!

09 Sep 2016 19:51:44
Hristo Stoichkov for me.

09 Sep 2016 21:46:03
I don't know in what relations this comment has been made, but as a Bulgarian I can only press "agree". He is the answer to almost as many questions as "42"

10 Sep 2016 03:28:01
Georgie Hagi.

09 Sep 2016 18:55:26
Just watched a video of the newly developed Anfield and I must admit I was abit sceptical about it to start with but hats off, it looks absolutely lovely, seems strange that the "this is Anfield" sign is now above the players tunnel and not on the stairs where it's always been nevertheless it still looks well, good luck to the players for tomorrow I'm sure the butterflies and adrenalin will be with them, wish I was there for the first game at home.

09 Sep 2016 19:56:02
Is it just me who's a bit ocd that it isn't in the middle of the actual walkway out to the pitch?

09 Sep 2016 11:26:39
Hey eds and reds hope you are all well, just a quick one, if you guys could pick a favourite non-Liverpool player who would it be? Personally I've always absolutely loved Theiry Henry always been one of my faviroute players and would of loved to see him at Liverpool used to always be jealous of Arsenal.
Have a good day guys!

Believable10 Unbelievable5

{Ed001's Note - I would say probably Zanetti as you took Henry.}

09 Sep 2016 11:36:54
Ronaldinho and gazza.

09 Sep 2016 11:37:52
I've always been a big Bergkamp fan myself.

09 Sep 2016 11:58:51
Gazza.

09 Sep 2016 11:59:27
Gordon Strachan.

09 Sep 2016 12:02:19
Pavel Nedved for me. He was absolutely fantastic and could do anything with both feet. Had he played in the Champions league (03) and euro (04) finals he would have those medals for sure.

{Ed001's Note - good shout, I loved his attitude. He worked so hard on his weak foot it became impossible to tell which it was.}

09 Sep 2016 12:45:17
Got to go with Bergkamp myself. Used to absolutely love watching him play.

09 Sep 2016 12:56:45
Gigi Buffon, such a classy player.

09 Sep 2016 13:13:56
Do you think Nedved got the credit he deserved at the time Ed001? Or is he some what underrated?

{Ed001's Note - very underrated for me. He was beloved in Italy, but not many people elsewhere realised how good he actually was.}

09 Sep 2016 13:16:22
Diego Maradona.

09 Sep 2016 13:19:06
Seriously, not maradona? Must be an age thing.

{Ed001's Note - I think it is more that it is favourite, rather than best.}

09 Sep 2016 13:33:45
Not that he would be my first choice but Nedved is a good shout, remember watching him at Euro 96 at Anfield and wanted us to sign him, we ended up signing Berger and Smicer, not all bad I suppose Istanbul and all that!

09 Sep 2016 13:42:39
For me (and don't shoot me down), it is Totti!

09 Sep 2016 13:42:50
We could have done with Paulo Maldinifor the last 25 years.

09 Sep 2016 13:44:43
Nedved, Del Piero and Buffon! All of them pure class! Opting to stay with Juve in Seria B!

09 Sep 2016 13:52:58
Great shout with Nedved, classy player. And also zanetti what a player he was solid. Could use him at fullback now! Cheers for the replies guys.

09 Sep 2016 13:56:03
I would go iniesta always love watching him play.

{Ed001's Note - I was assuming the OP meant retired players, as he picked Henry, or I would have picked him. Iniesta is my favourite current player. Love watching him. He is, imo, the most vital cog in both Barca and Spain's success in recent years.}

09 Sep 2016 13:58:11
Brazilian Ronaldo.

09 Sep 2016 13:03:11
Henry in the league. He was absolutely genius on the pitch and probably the best striker in the PL era. More importantly he loved Liverpool.

09 Sep 2016 13:25:29
Got to be Zidane for me - made time stand still on a football pitch whilst he decided how to rip a team apart one minute, flash of brilliance another.

09 Sep 2016 14:08:27
I think it has to be Ronaldinho, he is so so good at his prime, embarassing so many big name defenders.

09 Sep 2016 14:15:12
Even though he faced Liverpool twice probably Kaka, loved watching him.

09 Sep 2016 14:29:46
George Best.

09 Sep 2016 14:31:16
Zidane for me as well Barnes. Could watch him play for days.

09 Sep 2016 14:33:55
Le Tissier (the player, not the personality)

09 Sep 2016 15:03:24
me being only 20 makes this difficuly with retired players as I've only been watching all football for about 7 or 8 yeras so all my favourite players are still playing! i will say david silva, absolutely brilliant, for a period was the best player in the league.

09 Sep 2016 15:07:44
I always liked Diego Milito at Inter Milan. Underrated player!

09 Sep 2016 15:33:12
Fair point ed001 favourite retired player would be Paul McGrath completely underrated defender in my opinion had everything could play but would put in the hard work aswell.

09 Sep 2016 15:45:26
Eventhough he was utd- Georgie Best-Class.

09 Sep 2016 15:54:22
Roberto Baggio or Totti.

09 Sep 2016 15:05:53
Zidane made things look so easy, I know that is a cliche but that is completely true for zidane. Looked effortless at times the way he just knew how to take a player on. Unbelievable.

09 Sep 2016 16:48:55
My favourite non Liverpool player was always Batistuta.

09 Sep 2016 16:53:37
Romario or stoichkov. either would do. pair of loons.

09 Sep 2016 17:06:10
Im going to get shot for this one Denis Irwin and also would of took Gary Mac 20 years ago.

09 Sep 2016 17:08:42
Figo, great player.

09 Sep 2016 17:17:47
Henry first but then Viera for me, would love to have him in our side now.

I also used to love watching Gianfranco Zola - perhaps not the best ever but so unpredictable and had something special. Also seemed to really love the game and be a decent guy but who knows.

{Ed001's Note - I love Zola, he was incredible and such a genuinely nice guy as well.}

09 Sep 2016 16:20:10
almost forgot. luka modric, was at anfield on my birthday and watched him completely run the show. one of (if not the best) in his position.

09 Sep 2016 17:36:19
Batigol for me.

09 Sep 2016 19:00:55
Tie between Ronaldo (R9) and Ronaldinho. Wish I had seen more of Cruyff as a player.

09 Sep 2016 19:04:14
My favourite players were all from Italy watching them on channel 4 on a Sunday, many moons ago, Baresi of AC Milan and Rubén Sosa also Matthaus of Inter milan.

09 Sep 2016 19:08:08
Zidane.

09 Sep 2016 19:12:08
Paulo Maldini. Leadership, Bravery, Hummility, Fierce Competitor and Absolute Boss, all rolled up in one classy human being.

09 Sep 2016 19:12:19
Lots of nice players, have two not yet mentioned.
1. Love a pacy dynamic CD. Idolized Des Walker while growing up.
2. Marco van Basten scored goals. Always. Scrappy from nothing, aswell as spectacular ones. Such a smart player.

09 Sep 2016 19:16:33
Cafu for me I just don't think enough can be said about his work ethic and the 2002 Brazil team has to be my favorite of all time possibly certainly that I've seen!

Also Roberto Carlos I'd just pay money to watch the guy run and hit frees! I also love a player with a magic left foot I don't know why I think they seem to strike the ball in a different truer manner!

09 Sep 2016 20:29:35
Stanley matthews.

09 Sep 2016 21:03:15
Maldini of Batistuta classy defender or goal machine.

09 Sep 2016 22:06:54
Sir Tom Finney - the best.

10 Sep 2016 03:31:53
It's Marco van basten for me such a shame his career was cut short he was phenomenal.

10 Sep 2016 06:33:31
Pele of course. Then Zico.

10 Sep 2016 07:36:00
But before my time but michel platini.

10 Sep 2016 08:00:43
Littbarski and Tigana I personally loved watching.

10 Sep 2016 15:53:54
My favorites have already been mentioned (Ronaldinho/ Bergkamp/ Brazilian Ronaldo) but another, who no-one has said yet, would be Pippo Inzaghi. Always thought he was an incredibly smart player as well as having deadly technique and an eye for goal - enjoyed watching him play.

09 Sep 2016 11:21:23
From the time klopp has been here, i feel that he is not a tactically sound manager, but he want players to play in a style which should be good against 90% of the teams, but untill now team has been inconsistent and wasteful with klopp style.

It is fine with the way klopp has dealt with ben, sakho or balo and some others, cause the players does not match the style of play or he does not want them anyway near the squad, but if results are not +ve, then they will come and bite u.

09 Sep 2016 17:19:49
He's made a couple of mistakes like vs. Sevilla but generally he's made more right decisions than wrong and we're far stronger now than when he joined.

09 Sep 2016 19:16:18
Agreed, Zimbo. For example, go watch the Dortmund game at Anfield where he switched from a 4-3-3 to a 4-4-2 diamond when Studge and Allen came on with Couts at the tip behind Studge and Origi. this is where we ripped them a new one. Also, that is where we tactically won the game and where his pupil, Tomas Tuchel got tactically taken to the woodshed as he had no answer for that tactical change. It was a masterstroke.

09 Sep 2016 23:11:40
What a night at Anfield that was. The difference in mood at half time and full time whistle was incredible.

10 Sep 2016 08:45:11
Not tactically sound?
What have you been watching?

I've seen him take Arsenal, Chelsea, City, Man Utd, Everton, Leicester, Southampton, Villareal and Dortmund to the cleaners.

The team might have struggled in the odd game against an inspired new/ unknown manager but Klopp has proven his tactical ability already IMO.

Good morning Ed, hope your well. May I ask, is it possible you could simplify the new financial distribution system for the champions league for us simpletons. It appears to me that due to our past successes we would get more money than many clubs, in fact all the British clubs if we were to qualify. I can see a lot of questions been asked about this as it's in a few papers today and on the BBC website so could save a lot oh hassle to clear it up early. Just a though Ed.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - I assume you are thinking about the changes to the club co-efficients that rank the sides for the draws. Liverpool will benefit from that because of past successes - but it won't provide a tangible financial benefit, just a potentially easier path through the group stages. Right now the UEFA club rankings for English sides in the top 100 has:
8 - Chelsea
11 - Arsenal
13 - Manchester City
21 - Spurs
22 - Manchester United
28 - Liverpool
60 - Newcastle
63 - Everton
87 - Swansea
97 - Leicester
98 - Wigan
If the changes came in now Liverpool would get a boost as would Manchester United and Chelsea. They are still working the exact detail and they will make future changes to try and stop the "elite" sides breaking away - but they still intend to. They are also aware of challenges coming from several clubs and potentially two FAs. Add to that the plans of Stephen Ross of the Miami Dolphins will soon be back and it starts looking messy. The benefit of qualifying in fourth is the most significant - a straight jump in to the group stages. A benefit for Liverpool might be a jump from Pot 4 to Pot 3, or perhaps one day - Pot 3 to Pot 2. As the detail becomes clear I will update it - December is seen as the formal launch date of all of this by UEFA, but the "elite" clubs are meeting well before that and will be discussing this.}

09 Sep 2016 13:23:03
Cheers ed, the fact the details haven't been ratified explains why I've struggling to get my head around it. Although all irrelevant unless we qualify anyway.

{Ed002's Note - They are grasping at straws somewhat, as has been explained before.}

09 Sep 2016 07:51:22
I'm sure lots of the readers here have real lives over and above our addiction to this site and our beloved Liverpool

Today I heard something that I thought I'd never hear again in my lifetime.

I asked my son which boots he wanted for school and he responded that he only wanted the plain black Adidas ones as those were the coolest ones now.

Believable14 Unbelievable5

09 Sep 2016 08:24:06
Plain black all the way always have been for me 👍.

09 Sep 2016 10:11:37
I asked my twin nephews did they use Dubin on their boots. They still look at me funny.

{Ed001's Note - do they still wear them in the bath to get them ready?}

09 Sep 2016 10:57:24
You remember that as well Ed lol. As for the mad colour's of boots they have now if anyone wore them playing GAA you'd be battered off the pitch.

09 Sep 2016 12:30:17
Mundial all the way. They still sell them, but I think only over 35s buy them.

09 Sep 2016 12:34:13
My old coach Ken cresswell who played in the 82 world cup for nz wore black adidas moulded soles god I had to have them so my dad made me get a paper run to save and 17bucks a week u look after them when u finally get some. enjoy the match tomorrow all I can't wait,3-2 I feel in a good quality match.

09 Sep 2016 17:48:01
Puma kings all the way. they were 90 odd quid when I was 13! Great boots.

09 Sep 2016 19:19:37
Addidas Copa Mundial. Now, that`s a collector`s item.

10 Sep 2016 15:57:46
I remember being desperate for Puma Kings when I was young but ended up with New Balance Gold (in the days before New Balance became somewhat respectable) because my folks were pretty poor. Also remember Collymore being one of the first players to have red boots as opposed to black, red Mizuno's if I remember - was desperate for a pair of them as well but were impossible to find.
