Despite the recent good results, people seem to ignore how far BR has taken us. With the summer spending and whatever was going on early in the season, it seems we are behind at least 2 years, financially and on the pitch. Our season is almost the same as 2 seasons ago, only difference is most teams are pretty awful and we still have a chance for 4 top four. The fact people are happy with a 1-1 draw at home in a cup semi-final sums it up for me. We should be winning these games no matter what opposition we are facing and disappointed if we don't.

Agree6 Disagree7

I don't think anyone was happy with the result, just the return of some good performances similar to last year. The results of last year will come when there is a striker willing to make runs and stay in the box (Sturridge)

Some people are never happy.

You seem to forget how many games we won pre Chelsea, and about how we dominated and should have won, and about how we are climbing up the league and still competing in three cup competitions.

Not enough for some.

He has taken us from 7th to 2nd and then back to 8th.
That's a long way. . Up down up down:)

8th isn't our final position though. All the br haters just need to hang on until the end of the season to judge the man. For me he made some poor decisions in the early stages of the season but appears to be turning it around. Last night was the yard stick for progress. The fact that Jose set up to defend with the class he has at his disposal is a huge compliment imo

why should I be happy davey? Should I be happy about not challenging for the championship? should I be happy that we drew at home? that we bought players we don't need? that we can't buy players cause of our debt? or maybe I should be happy it took our manager months to realize his system doesn't work?
Don't get me wrong, I am happy with the results and I hope we go on like this but like I said before if I wanted to support a team who will once in while break into top 4 or challenge for the league I would not of supported Liverpool. I have no faith in this manager, not without someone watching over him, who only decided to change things when he realized his job is on the line

What players did we buy that we don't need?

Not one person on these pages complained of the managers pre-season transfers; not one!

Why?

It's because they had faith in the manager, but when things appear to go wrong, the signings are criticised and the manager is ultimately blamed. I think you'll find that many of our signings will be utilised over the next few congested months too.

The general consensus and majority opinion on here was conclusive in the backing of the managers signings. Read Maccas posts for Christ sake and the other thousand or so posts of transfer optimism!

The managers mistake was that he signed too many - too soon, but he'll learn from that. In my opinion, the players are showing their true ability and this is reflecting in the teams performance.

Liverpool WILL finish in the top four, and I've said that confidently throughout the season, but if you expected a strong title challenge (which I suspect you did judging by the pessimism), then you were wrong to think so - in my opinion.

{Ed002's Note - I rather suspect I told you that Balotelli would end in tears.}

Timo. It was a joke.
How is a joke being a Rodgers Hater?
Football stimulates debate.
Those debates would be mind numbingly boring if we all loved Rodgers or all hated Rodgers don't you think?
I thought the smiley face might give it away that it was a tongue in cheek comment.
I despair sometimes.

Spot on Davey. I'm not sure if we'll get top four to be honest as there's quite a few teams ahead of us. If we fail I don't think it'll be by much.

I also think that Rodgers should, and will, be given next season. If we carry on playing as we are at the moment then we'll only improve further next year, especially when the new players have had a season under their belt.

There won't be a need for a big influx, just one or two quality additions.

I also stated Balotelli would be the managers downfall (if any).

Poor signing from the start.

Never stated anything different.

{Ed002's Note - Lambert seemed dumb, Aspas and Alberto failed. Borini is three years down the line and a maybe.Oussama Assaidi , Samed Yesil and the loans of Victor Mose s, Nuri Sahin and Aly Cissokho were all screw ups. The owners are not going to kick their heels, they want success and they are not getting it Davey.}

Which is it Davey? You literally said no one complained about the transfers and you also complained about the transfers (Balotelli) in the space of 3 messages.

You have to make a distinction between the players and what we needed, in my opinion. I don't (and didn't) have any particular problem with Lallana, Markovic, Lovren, or Can (except the price paid for the first three, perhaps) as they are all decent enough players. The problem is none of them were really necessary and the positions we did need filled (aside from LB) weren't.

We needed goal scorers who could score from open play to try and replace Suarez, we got Balotelli who managed 7 open play goals in Serie A last year after taking 152 shots and Lambert who scored 8 from open play. Big mistakes on both, although I do like Rickie as a person.

We needed someone who could backup Lucas, got Can I guess, but seems hardly anyone sees him as a CDM and he really hasn't played there at all near as I can recall.

We needed a goal keeper, got no one. No idea how that happened.

So, was anyone upset about the specific players (Balotelli aside)? Not really, because they are all reasonably good players. Did we come near getting what we actually needed? No, we bought a ton of depth we didn't need which pushes kids who need a run in the side (like Teixeira) even further down the pecking order then they already were.

Sorry Johnny it doesn't read particularly clearly that your post was a joke. I think in general Rodgers has had a bit of a bashing on this site. But I find it interesting how this has abated significantly over the past month. Football fans really are fickle. Rodgers termed it short termism and I agree. A young manager who makes mistakes but just might do the business. Only time will tell but I despair at the idea of bringing in a string of managers. Eds commented above that Chelsea regularly change manager but cash is of no issue whereas for Liverpool it is. Rodgers has ensembled a young team which has potential and could devlop into something money can't simply buy.

So we bought players who will come good at the end of the season or next year. Its like Ed002 has been saying all along, "another year of transition maybe". The reason I am criticizing br is because we missed a great opportunity to reestablish ourselves this year, we should of had top 4 locked by now the way the league is right now. he made the wrong choices and it cost us a great deal. and check my posts, last season I posted that it was going to be a special season, this season I posted nothing simply cause I did not expect much

One thing in common Ed002 with all of those players.
They are 2nd tier and not top tier players in my humble mathematic opinion.
Some are not even 2nd tier players.
If our ambition is to be at the top of the league then these players will not get us there so it begs the question why did we buy them?
My answer to that is because they were cheap.
And before anyone says Borini cost 12 million.
City's 4 strikers cost 100 million.
Our 4 strikers cost us 44 million.
You get what you pay for unless your scouting is impeccable.

I agree with that Timo.
A few posters would like De Boer for example.
I don't see the point.
I would rather be absolutely sure that Rodgers is not the man to take us forward before getting rid.
Its still in the balance for me.
