I was looking at what a prestigious club Liverpool is and how dignify we have been crowned over the years but of recent years, there have been a sudden decline which has gone down to the calibre of players that have been purchased into the club. If we are to look take the midfield for an example, the last set of fine footballers we had was mach-xabi-Ger. The season for Liverpool is more or less over, by virtue of the fact that we couldn't overcome teams that we should be capable of beating. In order to regain back our place in Europe, we would need to get in a well-known top and talented Manger that has influence in bringing in players regardless of their position in their respective League. Over the years we have always been blessed with top and dangerous strikers which has seen the likes of fowler, Owen, Torres and Suarez rise to prominence. Looking at Liverpool current first team, we could see enough void that has been left unfilled for several years. Judging from recent position in the league, there's a greater probability of finishing outside the top four, leading us back to the start. We need to either bring in top and established players or a top Manager that is capable of attracting them around the world. YNWA

We didn't have top strikers in Istanbul

The problem is not the calibre of players we purchased but the calibre of players who left us. This include the two you mentioned (Xabi Alonso, Mascherano) plus Suareaz, you can probably add Torres even though after leaving us he dropped in form, and Arbaloa. If they all or most of them would still played for us (I doubt if they would leave chelsea or City) we would be doing alright. I wouldn't mind having Crouch on the bench as well btw and probably forgot few more. And it may very much be the case that Serling will follow all the above this summer or next. It is hard to have a high quality team when every time you do find quality players they run away.

I agree we purchased really badly last summer but the problem now start to be that big names don't like to come to us (see Sanchez) if they ahve other options so we have to buy players that other top 4 teams gave up on (see Markovich and Chelsea) and it is not easy to find quality players in these conditions.
