Anyone else loving the new nasty hendo? Personally I am. Those who don't play the game, will think handbags, but those who do, know it can be a very helpful mind game to your opposite number. Keep it up you big bully x

Waiting for this lad to grab the game by the scruff and drag us to a win. Then I'll agree with the majority in the future captain thinking.
Personally I don't see why he seems to avoid being hooked off every game and replaced when Sterling and Coutinho do and yet it's obvious they're better players and are capable of winning the game for us.

He may not be the absolute best player in the squad but we'd be lost without him in my opinion. When he was sent off late last year, that was the turning point to losing the title for me, we looked pedestrian in midfield without his drive.

He has energy and work ethic to run the midfield in both attack and defence, always tracks back and covers the runners, and regularly makes lung busting runs and assists when going forward. He could score more often but then who can't?

Above all this his professionalism, attitude and belief in the club are an inspiration to the youngsters that can be hard to find in the modern game. He's the strongest candidate for captain in my view.

{Ed002's Note - His haircut is still too nice - he needs to work on it.{

Agree with DBol. Decent player but not captain material. Looking hard and shouting at people means nothing in football; you have to get stuck in, and in my opinion, he doesn't do so enough.

I'd say a Mohawk ed. not a billy idol. More a BA barracus

{Ed002's Note - I have the inverted Mohawk - much scarier.}

He took over the Baggies game earlier in the season with one assist off a back heel and scoring the winning goal. In my book, that`s dragging us to a win.

Henderson is average and wouldn't get into the Chelsea, City or Arsenal teams. Our moves usually come to an end once he has possession. For a midfield player in his mid-twenties he needs to contribute a lot more. Passing, shooting and tackling are all average.

But he can run all day and can now square up to opponents, so is that the criteria for him to take over the captaincy next season? If so, he will be the least inspirational captain we have had since we were promoted in 1962.

Don't remember Roy Keane ever grabbing games by the scruff and single handedly scoring a winner.

How many league titles did he captain United to again?

Who can forget Hyypia's 80 yard mazey runs during the 2001 treble winning season before he outrageously chipped the goal keeper with a deft touch. (Sarcasm of course).

I'm sorry Dbol but not everyone is like Gerrard. He used to lead by example and drag us across the finish line. Henderson leads by example, and vocally pushes us over the finish line. It's a different kind of leadership but it is just as effective, albeit less spectacular.

I love this new fiery Hendo. He is showing the sort of passion you need to be captain. He is an absolute beast!

He seems a model professional in a time when there is very few about.
Has forced his way into the first team from the brink of getting kicked out for next to nothing.
I think he will make an excellent captain and example to the youngsters we will be bringing though.

I have said before that when Gerrard does not play Henderson is completely different.
Gerrard has played the last two games and it is affecting Hendo again.
A real problem this prolonged goodbye from our captain.
I don't think it has benefited anyone except him, in fact I would go as far as to say it's not really helped him either.
Why did it have to be aired???
In my opinion, he is the 2nd best player to ever wear our shirt(behind the king) but I don't think the timing of his departure has helped or the announcement of it.

Is there any way of sticking a like button on the eds comments. Ed002 you're on top now notch form

He recovers the ball well and has the vision for the passes, just needs to work on that final bit of accuracy in passing and shooting, he does get his fair share of half chances, and should hit the target and score more often.
I think your perception of him is a bit harsh

Patrol, I agree with your path of reasoning. But being a captain mostly, is not based on talent and skill. It is mostly based on leadership qualities, impact of your teamates and the ability to to take one for the team and have their backs as well as some ability to play the game, of course. You say he is average and all and that`s your opinion. But why is Neymar, Suarez, Messi, Studge, and so on NOT captains of their national teams because they are skillfull, top class? Why were Brian Robson, Zanneti, Xavi,, Hyppia, Masch, Hierro, captains of club AND country while not being the most eye-catching in terms of skill? IMO, it is because it is not enuff just to be a top class player. You have to have the qualities I mentioned as well. Sahko was capt of PSG and is capt of France. Is he their most skillful player or inspirational player? Some can lead with the top class qualities you speak of like Maradona was for club and country BUT it is not that cut and dry. IMO, Hendo is being compared to SG which is very unfair because we should allow Hendo to be captain in his own way and we should support him and not ask him to do what he is not capable of. What we should ask is for him to lead the team w/ dedication, humility and dignity and to me, if he does that and we are winning games, then I`m fine with that.

I take your point Red and don't have any agenda against Henderson. I'm not comparing him to Gerrard or any other captain for that matter. I just think he has to work on a lot of aspects of his game and affect them more.

Against top sides he panicks and gets rid of the ball too quckly, usually giving it away.

I've enjoyed watching Hendo's progression, I don't think he's a captain in the ilk of SG.

Sadly for him he has to play with a shadown of the man himself, often covering for his mistakes. There are certain times I've been impressed with what Hendo has done. He's stood up to Stevie on several occasions in matches on verbally b*llocked him for not doing his job.(Keep an eye out for this) He stands up for his team, Costa, Besic being recent examples.(As long as that temper doesn't over spill we are good)
I've seen him several times demand the ball from players to move the game on. He often does this for England, there were several times he almost tackled the powder puff Jack wilshere for messing around with possession to drive the ball forward.

I agree he could add more goals, and assists. But not as a captain, just as a midfielder in general.
