Morning reds,

On average a team has needed 70 points to secure a top four finish, however for the last two seasons 73 has been needed to secure fourth.
With this season looking as competitive as ever it looks likely that 73 will be needed again!
In the reds current position that means winning 9 matches and drawing 4 to reach this target!
Impossible, no, difficult, yes!

To stand a chance the reds need to win the 6 remaining home games and 3 on the road, whilst picking up draws in difficult places like the etihad.

What's the common opinion? Do people think we can do it?

Agree4 Disagree1

Just realised we don't go to the etihad, they come to us! But you get my point

We are at the wrong end of the wanted list.
Apart from UTD rest have similar fixtures as us.
Arsenal ll clinch the third.

Or 10 wins a draw and 2 losses

Arsenal 3rd us to grab 4th.

A lot of the teams around us still have to play each other so there's a lot of 6 pointers to play for.

Think united have a tricky april so if we can close the gap before then its looking good.

Last seasons top 5 were 85, 84, 82, 79, and 76 if my memory is correct. 73 points won't guarantee anything. It might well be enough but the only way to be sure is too win all 13 games. I still think we'll come 5th myself.

I was close.
It was 86, 84, 82, 79, 72, 69, and 64 for the top 7.

73 points based on the most recent season we have to use as a gauge will put us 5th. Arsenal, United and Southampton will be very difficult to over take and stay ahead of.

we have to win 13 out of 13 and we have to play to win. we are more than well equipped to win all our games . we have already lost this seasons quota of loosing and drawing.

EMS, I was basing it on the points accumulated by the team who finished 5th. Arsenal could of finished the season on 73 points last year and still finished in 4th spot. The same can be said for the previous season.

I personally think its a slightly to big an ask as our goal difference is poor which at this stage acts as an extra point and we have europa as a distraction.

I hope i'm wrong though and until it's mathematically impossible we are still in with a chance

We won't make it

Like you Carra, I will keep the faith. Expect the worst and hope for the best though.

I agree with you though. I think ultimately, the Europa League will kill us.

I hate to say but I think the Europa league will undo us I wouldn't be as worried if we weren't so far of utd 5 points and goal difference with them out of Europe our only chance is 4th and arsenal seem to do enough every year but we can only hope we do it and please raise the noise level at anfield make it a fortress.

End of December, we were 8th and 5 points off 4th. 2 months later and after having some of the best form in Europe, we're 7th and 4 points off 4th. Hard to see us making it there.

Which is why RDL, we need to beat the teams ahead of us in the next 3 games because then we can have a better chance at the top4 IMO. Outside of that, I don`t see 4th in our near future.

In the words of Sherman Klump.
YES WE CAN.
It will be difficult but why not?
We just have to keep winning games we win the more pressure we put on the other teams.
Playing on Sunday from here on in is going to have an affect though.
But so is a winning run.
