Just thought a few people on here would do well to read the following to give some perspective to their point of view. In the 1987-88 season, Ferguson made several major signings, including Steve Bruce, Viv Anderson, Brian McClair and Jim Leighton. The new players made a great contribution to a United team who finished in 2nd place, nine points behind Liverpool. However, Liverpool's points lead had been in double digits for most of the season and while United had lost only five league games all season, they drew 12 games and there was clearly still some way to go before United could be a match for their north western rivals.

United were expected to do well when Mark Hughes returned to the club two years after leaving for Barcelona, but the 1988-89 season was a disappointment for them, finishing eleventh in the league and losing 1-0 at home to Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup Sixth Round. They had begun the season slowly, going on a nine-match winless run throughout October and November (with one defeat and eight draws) before a run of generally good results took them to third place and the fringes of the title challenge by mid February. However, another run of disappointing results in the final quarter of the season saw them fall down to mid table.

Support your team.

his point is we have sent suarez to barca just like they did with hughes, and in two years we will have him back and probably win the league . that is the best i could make of the post

boys I know he has gone round the world with this but his point was that utd struggled under fergie at first, they overachieved by finishing 2nd and then dipped. People called for his head but the club stuck by fergie and I think they did alright in the end!

He's just saying that we should stick by BR and give him time to develop this team into something special rather than call for his head at the first hurdle!

For a start, three years is not the first hurdle.

But more importantly, one team sticking with their manager 25 years ago and it working out well is hardly A) a good argument for doing it now and B) what a balanced view of teams sticking by their manager producing.
