hey eds!.
just a general ques.
who do u think are the best managers/coaches in today's game?perhaps ancelotti?or perhaps our great hodgson :-P.
nd was their any difference between paisley and shankly's style?
thanx and keep p d good work. :-D

{Ed001's Note - I am not sure there are any great coaches in today's game, they have so much help these days it is hard to assess them. I mean Jose is one of the best, but I could never consider him a great. Ancelotti is good at getting players to play for him, but not sure that he could be considered a great either. Greater than their opponents, maybe, but not great for me. Maybe I am just getting old? Simeone and Bielsa would have to be in there. Oh wait, I know who is definitely a great coach still in today's game, a real coach. Dario Gradi. There is a true great. He doesn't start with the best players, he starts off with kids that are not good enough for the big clubs, but he makes them into players. He didn't even go and collect his lifetime achievement award the other day because he had an U12s game with Crewe! That is dedication. The English FA should have given him control of the youth academies system in England years ago.

There was very major differences in Paisley and Shanks. Shanks was an orator, he made the players believe they were better than anyone else and sent them out there with a strut in their step to destroy anyone. Paisley was different, players played for him out of respect, he was ruthless, where Shanks was too loyal, and he was a brilliant tactician who would tinker with the team to attack the opposition's weaknesses.}

Hear, Hear! I have to say I like the views of ED001 and his comment regarding Dario Grady has cemented my belief in his knowledge of the game. Dario has produced some outstanding players and LFC have benefited more than once, and a number of players he has coached have worn the red shirt on the Anfield pitch. Nice to hear him get some notice as I've always had the upmost respect for My Grady.

{Ed001's Note - Dario is a true great. When he had Crewe in what is now the Championship, instead of spending the morning of the game preparing the first team, he would be out on the training pitches coaching the youth teams. The man is totally dedicated to football and coaching.}

What are your thoughts on wanchop ed001? He seemed to have drilled Costa Rica brilliantly for the world cup. They were extremely discliplined and clinical.

{Ed001's Note - I haven't seen enough of him to judge him mate.}

Hopefully sooner rather than later he will start testing his prowess in the leagues of the europe and we can get a better look. Being restricted to several games a year is not ideal to show off your talents I guess. Thanks for the reply ed001.

{Ed001's Note - he is highly regarded by his players there, as a legend, so it could easily be that carrying him through. He does need to prove himself over a longer period and probably will have to leave Costa Rica to do so. Like you said, it is difficult to judge a coach on a few games a year, especially when it is a team like Costa Rica with nothing to lose. The players are always going to be up for it, so only a bad manager will make a mess of it.}

If my momory serves me well, Pinto was the manager and Wanchope was an assistant b4 he got the job full time when Pinto left due to contract issues. Anyway like you Boba, I loved watching Costa Rica in Brazil because IMO, they play footie the way IMO, it should be played. They don`t complicate things and play the game in a simple way and they were the only team IMO, that shows that the 3-5-2 system can work provided you have the players suited for it and boy, did they have them. No star players (bar maybe Navas who was the best GK after Neuer)but they were a true team and played like it. Sorry for the long post.
