If we were to show real interest in cech this summer and aquire him, he would be a fantastic signing. He will have a pick of a good few clubs. Experience, winner and leader in the dressing room and a top goalkeeper albeit not quite as good before his head injury.
We will see what happens but he would be my preferred choice as a fan.
What goalkeeper (realistically) would fans want at the club this season?

I think big Simon is worth keeping as r number 1 cech is not coming to us to sit on the bench.

Tommy cech would be our no1. Simon might of had a few decent performances but this has always been the problem and left us in the wilderness for years. Having players who aren't good enough having abysmal performances.costing us vital results. So keep Simon as first choice and next season it's the same Story? As with skittles. We need a top goalkeeper in this summer to help us progress not regress.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has expressed an interest in a number of goalkeepers - but Cech is not one of them.

Edd002. I know, it doesn't make sensethat we have shown no interest but that's the usual transfer makings. But my point is it hope we buy a top goalkeeper so we can begin to push on and improve other areas

I hear Iker Casillas wants out of Madrid.

In reality, I don't think there's a single keeper out there on the cheap that's better than Migs, I'd rather keep Migs and hope 1 of the youth players proves to be good, than fork out huge sums for a keeper. I think a keepers deficiencies can be compensated for by a solid defense.

bobatron, did you see Madrid last night and more importantly Casillas? He was awful and that sums him up when he is put under pressure, he just isn't a very good keeper, he has just been lucky to have been behind some very good teams. Complete waste of money going for him as he is poor on crosses and isn't a great shot stopper.

I would rather keep Migs and look for a good up and coming keeper as backup(Not Matt Ryan though, as he is pretty woefull too!).

Casillas has been poor over the past few seasons and to me is WAY pst his expiration dateand needs to go. Keylor Navas is his deputy and judging by his WC in Brazil, should be the no. 1 GK. BUT Casillas is one of the kingpins in that DR hence, it will take a forklift to move him away from RM. As for Mingo, I think if BR in some qarters has earned another season for the results we`ve had lately then so does he. If we can get a much better GK (Navas would b my preference but Cech is not bad either) than him then keep him instead of getting another keeper just for the sake of it. And the ones we are linked with now IMO, are not better than he is especially in the form he is in atm.

I agree that Casillas hasn't been very good for a couple of seasons, but to say he has been lucky with good teams and isn't a very good keeper is just wrong. He has easily been amongst the best keeper in the world for 10 seasons.

{Ed001's Note - sorry but he has never been a good keeper and was only Spain's first choice because he played for Madrid. Awful keeper, always been dodgy.}

Edd001. Do you not think our transfer committee is poor as with Rodgers signings. IMO we never aquire the player that would be a great choice at the time. There has been many players over the years that wanted to join Liverpool and were viable and we bought poor alternatives. It makes you think regardless of managers, had we are great transfer policy and with the money spent were we could be right now

{Ed001's Note - I think they need one man making the decisions and it to be a DoF, rather than a committee.}

Disagree w/ you a bit on the casillas bit, Ed. IMO, he has not always been dodgy. He has come up with great saves and perfs for RM and to me, his dodgy perfs even then came from that dreadful galacticos era where playing defence was not in their vocabulary hence, left him severely exposed. In fact, RM don`t win the CL in 2002 vs Bayer if he doesn`t make a last ditch kick save against a teenager named Dimitar Berbatov in a season where he was actually benched for over half the season by Cesar. remember a game vs Barca in 2009 where he made EIGHT saves and still conceded SIX goals as Barca won 6-2. That is suicide and there`s more where that came from in terms of scores. I`m not saying that he isn`t dodgy because clearly he is and his faults are still there BUT to say he`s always been dodgy is a bit over the top.

BR has the "kid in a candy store" nature about transfers and that is why he is simply woeful at it. He has no strategy and vision hence, buys a bunch of players and sees what sticks and what doesn`t. The only thing that can cure this chronic syndrome is a DOF and him being removed completely from the process.

I saw his performance last night yes, and quite franky his poor performances over the last 3 years or so. When he first started out I thought he was a very good keeper. I still think if he goes back to basics he can be that again.
I half agree with Ed he's not deserved to play ahead of others for spain at times, nor navas, and lopez last year. But as the young keeper I saw first come on the scene I thought he was brilliant and deserving of his reputation and caps(on that point I would disagree with Ed001)
I think personally a lot has to do with the dressing room. He's had his troubles with managers and players at Real, and has been caught in the middle of the big rivalry in spain with friends either side which in games clearly affected him for me. I think a new club could do him good.

Committees only work if one turns up, and the rest are either stuck in traffic or in hospital.

I don't mean to be a douche here, but to say that Casillas has always been a bad keeper is almost funny. You don't win everything you can win with both club and country if you are rubbish. Almost 500? Matches for Real Madrid and 150+ for spain World Cup and Euro gold, 3 times Champions league. Its kinda like saying Raul only scored because he played in a strong team.

{Ed001's Note - you do if you have the best team in front of you. Almost every team has ended up with one player that is lucky to be there. He was a leader, but not a good keeper. You are not a douche, just falling for the media lies about a man they loved, the same as Everton fans did initially about Martinez. Casillas has never been top class, never been good enough for Madrid, but he was a local boy with fans backing in the past, and that guaranteed him a place, especially as Raul and him were best mates.}
