The quintent of Lambert, Balotelli, Markovic, Lallana, and Lovren cost ~£85M and have played 5, 307 minutes in the league scoring a combined 9 goals, getting 4 assists, and creating 60 chances.

Sterling and Henderson have played 5, 135 minutes scoring 12, assisting 14, and creating 110 chances.

Well done transfer committee.

Understand your point, but lovren is a defender, not expected to contribute to goal stats, lallana has been injured a lot, and I really like him as a player. We play 1 striker, and you've named two on your list, and obviously you'd like to believe if Lambert or balotelli was guarded to start they would contribute more. Balotelli is an exception, he had had enough Chances, but Lambert was always going to be a sub, so it's hard to factor In a minutes to goal ratio. You've basically just picked our two bed performing attacking players to 5 other players.

It was a shocking attempt by Liverpool football club last summer it truly was from the man that employed the committee to BR. Absolutely clueless. The way that money was spent was discraceful but it's nothing new, we have been doing it for years. Would of thought we would of learnt from the stupid idea to spend 35 million on Andy Carroll.

Lovren is a defender so should be excused from any goal or assist count.
I agree with everything else though RDL.

Lacazette, Konoplyanka/H.Min-Son, Firmino, Papadopoulos/Alderweireld would have cost us around £60m - £65m last summer

Well done to Rodgers too for approving of the quintent of Lambert, Balotelli, Markovic, Lallana, and Lovren.

Lallana, Lambert, Lovren and Balotelli would have all be very well known to Rodgers.

Markovic is the one Rodgers would not have known about.

My question is, who else did Rodgers reject on the shortlist in favour of the above mentioned players?

We know the likes of Bertrand and Remy were on there. If only we knew which other players were a possible to sign but rejected by Rodgers?

No one can argue that last summer's signings were success but I think it is worth remembering that there is always an element of gambling and uncertainty about signings. Chelsea, who everyone praise their signing success in recent years and rightly so, still bought Torres from us for what 50M? and this was a disastros signing. ManU are paying what 250K a week To Falcau to play for the reserve team. Some signings take time to show that they were worthwhile - See Fallieni in ManU last year and this season.

For us Lallana was not a bad signing and he can become an improtant player, I am happy we have him. Lovern may come good, hard to tell. I personally don't have much expectations for Markovich. Baloteli was a disaster and he should leave in the summer but I repeat what I said here many times before, no one could have predicted Mario will be so poor on the pitch. People thought about discipline issues, red cards and bad influence in the dressing room but the view was that if BR can control his behaviour (and he overall did) Mario can do miracles on the pitch. At the end of the day the number one target of the committee and BR was Sanchez, this was the right call but he didn't want to come. let's hope this summer they do a better job.

Wow ! 😠

Is the transfer committee real or myth? If it really does exist, doesn't BR have a final say anyway?

The topic of the transfer committee only seems to come up in conversation when people are defending BR.

Either way, our transfers since FSG arrived have been truly awful.

The managers tactics and motivational skills (or lack thereof) in the first half of the season will have had some influence on numbers of goals scored, although we certainly made bad mistakes in transfers.
But keep some perspective. let's not forget there were some good buys too.
I still think there is a very good left back lurking somwhere inside moreno, and markovic, lovren and manquillo could still become very good players.
It was a bit better than kennys big window, where we signed the likes of downing and adam.
And at least there is some good news, in that the owners will try to make sure the mistakes are not repeated in future.

None of you complained about the transfers last season.

In fact, many was praising the signings.

I remember though that may were concerned regarding the replacement of Suarez , which has proven to be true.

It annoys me a bit that people are so negative about Lazar. Ed2 said he isn't ready for the prem, his manager at Benfica said he needed careful management and game time. He wasn't meant to be amazing straight away. If managed properly he will be a superb player, however I fear the way his game time has been managed this season he may have been set back rather than developed. I really hope it's not too much of a set back for him.

12 Apr 2015 12:56:50
I don't have a major problem with many of the signings as individuals apart from the strikers which were both gambles that didn't work IMO (although I still suspect if BR had had Sturridge fit to play him as a pair with Balo, might have been a very different outcome)

I suspect most others will work out over time, but I still question whether they were good choices for what the team needed. Any team needing to draft Can in to CB, play GJ at RB and use Sterling as striker clearly hasn't filled gaps. On the other hand we already have Coutinho, Sterling as attacking mids, yet spent another 45million on Llalana and Markovic?

12 Apr 2015 13:01:56
what I don't get is how lallana has suddenly become quite injury prone. he was hardly missing for southampton now he just starts getting a decent run of games he picks up another injury. i think we look a better team with him in.

12 Apr 2015 13:15:51
Can't afford to make the same mistake replacing Gerrard Davey.Would love to see Henderson and Can and as the muscle with Pjanic pulling the strings.

12 Apr 2015 13:30:56
You are quite correct Davey in your assesment that we were all cock a hoop about the new signings over the Summer, except for Balo, plenty could predict he was a massive gamble. One thing you forget tho. We are not here to pick players and have no real knowledge really of how good a player is or can be in the future. Many think they do tho! But Rodgers, the committee and the scouts should have an idea who they want and if they should be good enough.

12 Apr 2015 13:50:56
Wasn't Lallana last seasons most subbed player?

12 Apr 2015 14:13:01
Can't believe the vitriol directed against Liverpool players. Lallana and Lovren are really good players, Marko will be superb too. You can argue we overpaid or whatever but no doubting their quality.

12 Apr 2015 15:07:44
For those that mentioned Lovren (and admittedly he's not expected to add much to those 3 stats in particular), you could swap him out with Moreno and the numbers don't change much. Broader point being we spent a lot of money and 3 of those 5 haven't even hit 1,000 minutes on the pitch, either through injury or not being selected or both.

I don't really care if it was Rodgers or the committee, but either way our transfers once again have either been very poor or the manager hasn't been able to get much from them and either way we don't have the money to keep spending this badly.
