Ed001 - I know you've said that you'd ideally want Klopp when BR goes but you've also said Frank De Boer wouldn't be a bad option. Could you elaborate on your thoughts on De Boer? I suspect he might be more realistic than Klopp but that's a surmation on my part.

I've been trying to watch as many Ajax games as I can. De Boer seems to play 4-3-3, he tries to play at a fairly high tempo with a high press and Ajax look fairly well organised defensively but interested to know your thoughts.

{Ed001's Note - he follows the Ajax blueprint, the one set out for him by previous generations, and has not deviated from it. I do wonder how he would get on tactically in the Prem. There has been no real way to judge his ability to change things to get more from players when he has a system that he is to follow. The only real imprint he can have is on the team's organisation, but he would need to do so much more if he was appointed here. For starters he wouldn't have a youth academy full of players brought up playing the same system. I am torn on him.}

Thanks Ed, I guess there's only one way to find out if he'll succeed or not . Always an element of risk I guess appointing someone new but he couldn't be any worse!

{Ed001's Note - true, but the right support system is needed for anyone to succeed.}

He couldn't be any worse?. Oh yes he could, I could name you numerous teams that thought it was a good idea to get rid of their manager only to slide down the table. Just a few examples in Newcastle, Birmingham, Portsmouth Cardiff etc etc.Sometimes you have to b careful of what you wish for

Seriously? Did you watch the various embarrassing capitulations this season due to Rodgers? De Boer would certainly do no worse! He can organise a defence for one thing and plays with a proper DM each game.

I agree Red Since 64. We are looking for a manager in the first instance to get us into the top 4 therefore disposing of either Arsenal, Utd, Citeh and Chelsea. Each team much more attractive to play for than Liverpool at very least on the wages front before we talk about players wanting to be located in London. It is by far no easy task for any new manager. I've said before on the wages Liverpool pay compared to the other 4 that we need other things to go for us, namely our youth teams, our scouting network of up and coming talent because let's face it we are not going to sign the Bales or Falcaos of this world or a manager with a tactical know how to get the job done. No easy task imo.

{Ed001's Note - to compare it with any of those examples he made is little short of idiotic though. Not one of those clubs is in any way shape or form comparable.

Newcastle have a chairman who is solely interested in spending as little as possible and shoving as much money in his fat wallet as possible. They consistently spend a significant amount less than they take in unlike ourselves.

Birmingham had an owner in jail, their finances in complete meltdown, what is their to compare to us?

Portsmouth suffered due to overspending and had a financial meltdown. Again nothing to do with changing manager.

Cardiff have a chairman at war with the fans, it was nothing to do with a change of manager that they are struggling.

All of those examples are just the ridiculous and desperate grasping of a man with no idea about the world of football.}

I agree ed001. Which proves you should read all the post and not just the "be careful what you wish for" bit. Cheers

Would De Boer be a better manager in the Prem than Rodgers? Ed01 raises a fair concern. On face value, 3 years ago, Rodgers ticked plenty of boxes: good philosophy (I know, I know), prem experience, delivered good football at Swansea on a tight budget.
He has since been found out in terms of tactical nous and flexibility, and transfer dealings, but I fail to see how De Boer looks better on paper right now. Out of the frying pan?.

To be fair, at the time Rodgers had less Premier League experience than Garry Monk does now and couldn't even say he played in it. It's really pretty shocking we hired him at all, honestly. Point being, De Boer is unproven in the PL sure, but he's well more experienced now than BR was when we hired him.

I wouldn't want de boer. and I don't go along with players prefer to play in London to Liverpool! I put it down to the manager being able to convince them? I always look at it as if rafa was here ( i'm not saying get him back although i would love it) i really believe if willian and sanchez had to choose when rafa was manager i believe they would of signed for us? FACT!

Rafa won't be back though. FACT.

All managers are a gamble. Even Pello was a gamble for City (who had won nada before coming in) when they hired him. You need a bit of luck and a good structure to work under and hope you get a good start which only buys you more time to implement your ideas. A manager has to learn fast, be humble, learn quickly, show leadership and take responsibility for his mistakes. BR wasted his credibility and goodwill via his ego and stubbornness and has hence, messed up his career at LFC. If De Boer has ticks all these boxes, we as a club will give him a chance. He might be unproven in the PL but so was BR (one season in the PL is not enuff, IMO) but he was a great player at big clubs and coached at an institution like LFC in Ajax hence, knows what is like to coached a big club with big expectations. Ed shared a very critical concern which should be looked at but we have to do our research and be convinced that if FDB is the guy, he ticks all the boxes we need to be ticked.

Yep those players would have signed for Rafa, because he would've paid them wages that would've crippled us like he did with every player he ever signed for us.

Why do people constantly forget that Rafa was a big part of the reason we nearly disappeared from football by paying ridiculous wages to players just to keep them.
