Where has the fast-paced attacking style gone from last season?

Where has the pressing style gone?

Why did it take Rogers half a season to change formation and tactics that were clearly not working?

Why did he change it again completely after about 12-13 games where we were winning nearly every game?

Why are players continually played out of position?

Why is he not playing a formation that suits the majority (if not all of the players we currently have)? ie, the same formation and style used during that unbeaten run?

Why play political games against the transfer committee?

How can he not set his team up to counter or better 'Timmy Time'?

Why can he not get the team up for must win games against West Brom & Hull, where if we had won them Man U would be feeling a bit of pressure themselves (especially after Everton beat them)?

Why is he not playing Manquillo? At the same time how the hell is Johnson still getting a game?

Why is he wrecking the confidence of Markovic?

Why does he play Balotelli on his own when he can only really play in a 2? The same can be said for the limited time Lambert has been on the pitch too?

There are so many questions more than this.

This is why I think it might be time to part with the good ship Rogers and employ the services of Klopp or another manager identified as being an upgrade.

Wouldn't mind answers to those myself!

I honestly don't understand it. We only lost one player from last year's team (admittedly a very good one in terms of ability), yet for some reason we apparently have had to shift near 180 degrees from tactics that served us well with the other 10 players back to, uh, whatever you'd call this current style of play. It really doesn't make much sense.

30 Apr 2015 07:10:34
Why ? Because he doesn't know what he is doing.

A major why is the loss of Suarez and Gerrard's legs.

Suarez was conducting the attack by his mere presence. Now gone, so has the attack. He was the cause of last year's success, not Rodgers.

Which new coach ?

I would be happy with Bielsa or Klopp.

Although I would prefer Bielsa over Klopp. There is a very successful Argentine, but he is 64/5. Perhaps he wants to retire ?

{Ed001's Note - Bielsa is not retiring.}

I'll give it a go:
-Sturridge has pace - injured and replaced by Mario or Lambert (no pace). Suarez has pace replacements didn't. But more than raw pace is the speed of movement and thought that Suarez has. He pulled defences all over the pitch because they had to mark him, then he'd beat a man and draw more defenders. Suarez's presence created a lot of space allowing fast paced play. It's much harder against a compact organised defence ( like Chelsea).
-Pressing style: again when you have the attacking prowess of Suarez and Sturridge it creates fear in your opponents who sit back (allowing you to press) and creates confidence in your team (encouraging you to press). We went into games with the mentality 'if you score 2 we'll score 3'. These days we don't have that confidence because we don't have a world class player and a great finisher (who is fit).
-Tactics: we had a massive new player recruitment. First they have to adapt to the initial tactics, this takes a while and you don't give up after 3-4 games. Then you have to coach the whole team into a new tactical system. It's not easy especially when players get injured along the way. How long was it before players got used to LvG's tactics? It was nearly half a season.
-12-13 game complete change? Don't know what change and wouldn't be able to answer anyway.
-Player positions : I think Brendan likes to think he has a similar philosophy to "Cryuff's total football" where outfield players didn't have set positions. Just my interpretation of his comments in the past.
-Politics: if you mean media comments, I would suggest you ignore media comments they are not important. I thought Rodgers was an integral part of the committee anyway.

Which managers do you want as an upgrade? Klopp will have better offers I'm afraid so you can write that one off. De Boer is not available.
No point in changing managers until you have dealt with Scouting, recruitment policy and coaching I'm afraid.

{Ed001's Note - so how do teams without an attack like that manage to make the pressing succeed? It is nothing to do with the attack at all. That is utter nonsense. It is nothing to do with the opposition sitting back, again nonsense. A pressure team FORCES the opposition back by hounding their players until they have no option but to pass back. Your whole post is based on the kind of crap spouted by Rodgers to excuse his lack of tactical knowledge.}

RDL simple answer Suarez was worth at least 3 top player's he was 3players rolled into one he created a lot of his own goal's because not that many were set up for him, his set piece's was 2nd to none and he created so many goal's for other's ,put it this way last season with him in our side we had a threath up front who defender's were always had to be on their top game and even then it wasn't enough sometimes ,BR had it so easy with him in the team all he had to do was to play to Suarez's strength's even the player's we still have here we're made to look better Sturbridge is a prime example when he has played and been fit he has not looked like the player of last season you can put it down to his injuries or having a world class partner I put it down to having a world class partner ,BR could not replicate last seasons form or tactic's because last season was not down to him it was down to Suarez

I' really sorry Ed. Just an opinion, based on what I see at matches.
I didn't mean to upset you. I don't need or wish to excuse Rodgers. The poster asked a lot of questions, so rather than trot out the usual 1-liners about Rodgers being "pathetic, clueless, inept" I tried to give a more meaningful observation.
If people prefer the same inane answers of "sack the manager, he's a clown" etc then I'll refrain.
I like LFC and I support LFC. I don't want to beat the club down all the time.
Again, sorry for my alternative point of view.

{Ed001's Note - why are you acting like a blurt? I just pointed out that your 'alternative' point of view had serious flaws. Nothing alternative, just you making excuses for failure. You tried to make claims that had no substance to them, now you are getting all whiny because I pointed that out. If you want me to pussyfoot around your crap then forget it. If you make a good point I will just as happily point it out, but when you post nonsense I will point that out as well. Why get all childish about it? Stop being a victim, if you believe you are right, try and explain it, only you aren't going to be able to as you know I am right so you are acting like you are being victimised instead of discussing it.}

30 Apr 2015 10:12:24
Surely football is about opinions. I haven mine and it is based on what I see when I go to games. That's the only justification there is I'm afraid. If others see it differently then OK, I can accept that.
I'm not a victim or a child, I just apologised as it seems you were irritated/upset with my original post.

{Ed001's Note - how was I upset? Why would I be upset? I just disagreed with your excuses for the change in system. They are excuses as not one of them stands up to scrutiny. Bielsa got Chile playing a high press system with a team that should have been completely outmatched by the teams they were facing. He turned the team's weakness into strength by using the press to stop opponents attacking easily. That is what we did last season. Then we lose one player and suddenly we change system, why? All of the players we acquired are fully capable of playing in that system. In fact almost all of them played in teams that never had a Suarez and yet used the press to great effect, but you were claiming that not having that attacking threat nullified the press. My point is that you were making ridiculous claims that may be your opinion but they were completely nonsensical. You don't need an attacking threat to play a high press, but a high press can create an attacking threat by allowing you to regain the ball higher up the pitch where it hurts the opposition.}

Ed001 - I was not referring to Bielsa retiring but Carlos Bianchi and José Pékerman.

Very successful managers.

{Ed002's Note - The club is already a laughing stock - they will not be even in the slightest interest in Pékerman or Bianchi.}

30 Apr 2015 11:16:52
Indeed, as I said, 65 and 66 years old.

They have been very successful.

Why is the club a laughing stock ?

Fred Karno's Circus perhaps ?

What if Rafa was the only option ?

{Ed002's Note - Why are you even mentioning these people who the club have zero interest in and are never going to be approached?}

30 Apr 2015 12:18:40
Simply, because one of the Eds made the comment that people have not been considering an unknown manager in South America.

30 Apr 2015 14:11:38
Ed 002 likes the look of Guillermo Schellotto,I think that's the South American manager
