I think the fact that the winner now qualifies for CL makes the competition a bit different. I'm not going to complain about watching our team more than once a week. I don't know why Liverpool seem to be the only top team incapable of playing more than one game a week? Other sides manage just fine. For me the only downside I see is that it does not bring in the same money as CL does. With good management I don't see why we can't put in a decent challenge for top 4 and the EL trophy.

I agree Super. I would much rather win any European trophy that a domestic cup. Plus the far superior prize money it brings compared to the domestic cups. Its worth being in and its worth winning.

If you ask Everton and Spurs fans they would say exactly the same.
I doubt the poster would say the same about the two domestic English cups, but that European competition is just a waste of time.
I wish we could concentrate on the league and the domestic cups, and many supporters I know feel the same way, as they do about our players playing for England too.
Now, if it was the Champions league, then that's a different story as it's not a cup for losers and has beens of the season.
Unfortunately, we don;t have any choice and would set a precedent on football arrogance if we did pull-out.

Sorry but Liverpool Football Club was built on European Cups. And by that I mean Old Big Ears !!!! This competition is a shambles and Uefa should just boycott it and create something new. Even the old version of the competition was way better. Love every competition were involved in, I even love the league cup which gets blasted,, but that Europa League is garbage. Thursday nights and 5 o'clock midweek kick offs are a joke. Just do away with it, even that plank Fergie branded it as 'punishment'

Sponsors want as much exposure for their money as possible. Playing any european competition for Liverpool (and progressing to its final few stages) is the basic requirement sponsors are expecting for the money they pay.

Any silverware is important for this club. Whatever competition we are in we should look to win. The end.

What a load of nonsense some people sprout on this site, without playing in europe over the yrs in whatever guise liverpool would not the world wide brand it is today. And from what i can remember we were completely embarrassed in the CL and knock out of the euros fairly comfortably by a so called second tier team.
If we qualify, we should give it respect and play to win it, simple.

It is about respect, respect for the badge on the chest and the team you are opposing. Anyone saying otherwise has no idea what Liverpool FC stands for and should stay away until they make the effort to learn.

cash and trophies aside we need European experience and the EL games will help. we were abysmal in the CL campaign and should we by a miracle get the 4th spot this year , under the current management I would expect us to go out at the same stage next season. I would prefer just to concentrate on the league but a trophy is a trophy and can only help the longer term profile of the club. not being in Europe at all is not a good look.

Personally, I think the Europa League should change to be a knockout Cup competition, no group stages, just straight home and away knockout, not even commencing until the group stages of the CL a over.

I wish to be disassociated with the fans who don't want LFC to qualify and win every tournament. Their minority views do not represent me.
Apart from everything that has already been said, the winners gain valuable competitive European experience and qualify for the champions league.
