Hi ed(s)

magic wond time.

what would be your ideal summer for the club?

Awesome job as always. Not quite sure how you do it!

Thanks
tom

{Ed001's Note - my ideal summer would be bringing in Monchi as DoF and Klopp as manager. Then letting those two find the right players and system to win.}

Agree5 Disagree0

I don't know of Monchi so can't say anything there.

Agree with Klopp no better time to attain a higher calibre manager with him not attached to any club. We surely must have shown some level of interest by now?

Players wise for me and I'm not going to name all I claim to think or know would be coming, but surely Konoplyanka on a free ticks all the boxes? Similarly with Montoya of Barca if available at 8 million I hope the deal is done already.

I know there will be more new players but these two sit right with me as good buys along with Klopp as manager.

{Ed001's Note - not sure why we need either of those two? Particularly the entirely average Montoya, we already have one right back on loan that isn't good enough, better to not buy another one.}

What's are the chances of getting one out of two ED01 ?

{Ed001's Note - we never go for the people I want us to go for, so it is probably 0%.}

Gotta break that superstitious duck, Ed! Be bold, make a prediction on one player and manager and watch as the stars finally align for you! You have insider info, you know more than you let on here - I think you just fear putting it into words will jinx it. Be bold!!!

{Ed001's Note - to be honest Monchi is a problem because of the way we messed Sevilla about during the Moreno transfer, he was very unhappy with Liverpool's attitude. I know there has been an attempt to rebuild bridges between him and the club, which I am hoping are aimed at more than just an improved relationship with Sevilla, but I am not going to hold my breath in case I am just getting carried away with wishful thinking.

As for Klopp, as much as I want him to take the job, I really don't think we are going to go for him, we would already be on our knees begging him to take the role if the club really wanted him. I hope that FSG will go for him, but if not Unai Emery would be good, or I would happily accept Ed002's suggestion of Schmidt.

Player I would go for would be Begovic. For me a keeper is priority number one right now. The defence is shambolic, completely bereft of confidence and a good keeper gives them confidence. Mignolet is just not a good keeper and could have done much better on a couple of their goals today. I can't remember him ever making a save I would not expect him to make. Can anyone ever remember a time Migs made a save that made them wonder how on earth he stopped that? Those are the saves top keepers make.}

Begovic is off to Man Utd when De Gea goes to Madrid. Besides, he wouldn't leave Stoke for a team not in Champs league.

Ed, you said if we really wanted Klopp we would already be on our knees begging him, but wouldn't that be really unprofessional to do that whilst we still have a manager? Surely they would save the begging, and compliments, and special gifts for once Brendan has been sacked, If he even is sacked? Emery would be my choice anyway, probably slightly more likely too, although we will probably end up with Ian Holloway

{Ed001's Note - luckily Holloway is likely to return to Blackpool, so he will be out. If we really wanted Klopp we would have sacked Rodgers already.}

Hate to say it but, after yesterday's performance, why would he leave Stoke for Liverpool?

25 May 2015 07:23:58
Ed001, I have to agree with you, i'd be happy with one of Klopp, Emery or Schmidt as Ed002 has suggested. I would think it unlikely he would give up CL football to come here, Emery himself may have CL football also if Sevilla win the EL. We don't seem to have made any move for Klopp, so I just wonder where that leaves us manager wise. Ancelotti maybe if Rafa ends up at Madrid, but heard that Ancelotti wants to take a year off. Bielsa would be the only other one I could think of atm.

{Ed001's Note - Ancelotti may yet end up at City, I would not expect him to join us that is for sure. Bielsa's English is very poor, which makes him unlikely.}

Ed001, forgot to add, What's Martin O'Neill up to? Looks like we need a mid table manager at the moment.

{Ed001's Note - please no!! He is with the Republic of Ireland right now, so that would rule him out thankfully.}

25 May 2015 09:10:48
Haha sorry Ed001, wasn't serious about O'Neill, just trying to make light out of our situation. So hard to convey a tone of sarcastic humour.

{Ed001's Note - I guessed that don't worry, I didn't think anyone who wanted a failed average manager would need to look any further than keeping hold of Brendan.}

25 May 2015 09:26:36
I disagree a little Ed.
I've said on here before. Begovic has made a lot of mistakes in goal the last few seasons. Whether he needs a new challenge I don't know,but I think people are too enamoured remembering his performances from 2/3 seasons ago,I don't think he's come close to that level again,and he's made a lot of howlers himself.
I can also think of a fair few saves migs has done where I've thought how's he stopped that(Chelsea carling cupis a prime example). He's kept us in a fair few matches this year,where we've been hammered. Particularly Southampton springs to mind,also even though we actually got beaten some of his saves vs Palace etc. I just think the media including highlight teams on the BBC latch onto keepers suffering poor form,and show their wrongs,and if some one has started well they show their highlight reels.

For me I think we need to get in a striker more importantly that's proven,get rid of Aspas,Balo,Borini,possibly Lambert,have Origi,sinclair,Sturridge and the purchase.

I think having Wisdom at Right back and Lovren/Toure/Ilori/Sakho as centrebacks will see an improvement in Migs and the defenses performance.(As you know may I hate Skrtel )

{Ed001's Note - I don't watch highlight reels, so no idea why you mention them? Do you have a chip on your shoulder about the media and blame them for the fact our keeper is crap? Because that is what he is. No highlight reels are being produced to show him miskicking the ball into the stands every time he kicks, yet you are trying to suggest it is highlight reels making him look bad. He is not good enough, that is why he looks bad. Not one of those saves you mentioned were special, sorry but that is just simply not true. Numerous times he has let in shots he should have saved, 3 last week, a couple this week, he is simply not a good keeper.

As for Begovic, he has had a few injuries, but when fit he has played well, as he did yesterday. He can also distribute the ball, something Migs has never been able to do. Half the time it is difficult to know if he has even seen a football before in his life, let alone kicked one!}

25 May 2015 14:37:20
There's no Chip at all ed001: Just saying post match analysis and such loves to heap praise on when things are going well,and kick people when things aren't going right and often very contradictory.

I agree with some points on Migs,I said before we signed him he couldn't kick and wouldn't suit playing out the back. I think insinuating a football is somehow foreign to him at times,does him a disservice and is hyperbolic.(from your last sentence.)

If the past 3 seasons all of Begovic's mistakes can be put down to injury so be it,bt the man's played 70+ games injured? Sorry ed,but when I've watched him he's been average,and let in some soft goals from shots well outside his area.

I guess we will disagree on the efforts Migs has made save wise. I just threw those out as a few examples of saves I thought Kept us in matches,that not a great many keepers would do.

{Ed002's Note - I suspect you are reading rather too much in to certain aspects of the media.

Begovic may well move soon with Inter, Real Madrid and Chelsea showing some interest. Manchester United and Arsenal have enquired as to his availability with his agent but have not taken it further. Borussia Monchengladbach has moved on.}
