With all the new midfielders we already have and are getting in - Milner and supposedly Kovacic - does this signal that Rodgers sees Can as a permanent right sided defender whether as right back or part of a back three? I know he has largely performed well there but his preferred and best position is in the middle. I'd love to see him in an attacking midfield role. Anyone else think he's not being played to his strengths at the back?

Or rotate him and lucas as the dm in a diamond for e.g with hendo/milner/allen/kovacic(if we get him) on either side. Coutinho/lallana at the tip behind studge/origi/ings and who else new

Can doesn't pass the ball quickly enough to play in midfield.

07 Jun 2015 12:37:23
i don't think we'll get kovacic, we need to double our offer as ed002 says. which we rarely do. bt then again its a player we don't need, so we might. *sighs*

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool can get the player if the offer the asking price.}

07 Jun 2015 12:47:21
I'm surprised certain clubs bother dealing with us after offering stupidly low prices for players - it's plain disrespectful.

07 Jun 2015 12:49:41
Kovacic will be very good in the future if coached well, but sometimes I wonder why we keep buying midfelders. A DM was only needed in that area of that pitch.

07 Jun 2015 13:24:55
Ed i know you don't like it but is the fee the reported €25m

{Ed002's Note - That is the asking price.}

07 Jun 2015 13:28:24
Amit. No more disrespectful than Man City offering £25 mill for sterling. It's called bargaining and if both parties want the deal to go through they compromise on the price

Kovaicic does hold potential, he'd be our best midfield prospect by a country mile. The fact we have mediocracy coursing through the team, it's unlikely we'll get him. Can won't cut it in the midfield, he has no peripheral vision and loses possession to often when he receives the ball from defence. To me he's like a boxer with great technique but has a glass jaw. Kovaicic on the other hand seems to hold tremendous ability to break with the ball at pace, he can turn well in either direction. We don't get players like Kovaicic, Vietta, Lacazzetta etc. We have to put up with Mr Harley Davidson and his budget brief being laughed out of town with derisory offers. We'll end up with another summer of third shelf transfers with flaws in their game as usual.

07 Jun 2015 13:58:05
But qwhy offer €22m and not just the asking price if it is indeed €25m.

07 Jun 2015 14:19:37
£18m isn't exactly expensive is it. that's less than henderson. Why offer £9m, no wonder they thought it was a joke. Surely if you enquired and Inter said 18m you say 15m, so at least they know your serious and not taking the mick.

07 Jun 2015 14:57:26
Ed, I can't see us stumping up that asking price, can you? Having said that if we've known the asking price all along why are we wasting our time. Besides I'm not sure he is what we need. He is another attacking midfielder ain't he?

07 Jun 2015 15:06:34
I agree we will need to pay near asking price perhaps but like others i am scratching my head wondering why on earth we need another midfielder??!!
If we were to sell 1 or 2 attacking midfielders i could understand but just seems crazy

07 Jun 2015 15:46:31
Aren't Inter struggling financially as they were when we got The Magician for comparative peanuts? Maybe that's why we didn't immediately bid the 'asking price'?

{Ed002's Note - The bid was ignominious and simply added some Spanish journalists to the stockpile who think the club has become an embarrassment within the European game.}

coutinho was not a first teamer when we bought him. which is why he was cheap.

Those who have learnt nothing from history are doomed to repeat it. We have mids coming out of our ears and noses in the first team and the academy YET we are adding more like coin collector collects coins. Soon we will be playing all mids in our first eleven because BR is obsessed with his possession rubbish. What will happen to our academy mids as well as Can, who is potentially better than him but is never played there? No one is addressing that and everyone is hailing Kovacic coming in potentially to play where we are already over served in. Lord help this club.

07 Jun 2015 23:12:27
Ozone,a bit harsh on Can when you judge him as a mid who actually never plays there. How do we know he won't cut it when BR always plays him where he will struggle hence destroying his confidence? We paid 10m for him and barely ever played him in a position to get the best out of him and suddenly we have written him off whereas bris the reason he looks bad. What if Kovacic arrives and our boy messes him up like he did Can and looks bad, you want him gone as well? Listen, Bayern don't put a buy back clause in your contract if they think you suck when they sell you as they did with Kroos, Lahm, Alaba, an d Hummels (who refused to go back). He's 20 and still learning and he is a super talent technically and physically. We need to help him to fulfill that talent instead of jettisoning him for being mismanaged by The Nose
