I don't understand the people who are desperate for us to sell Sterling before City regret it. Him going is another huge indication for the demise of our club.

Beyond the very negative message this sends to the world that another great star of ours is desperate to leave, as I said several times we will miss him badly on the pitch. He may have still a lot to improve and is not consistent but he was one of our 2-3 best players in the last two seasons and contributed a lot in terms of goals and assists.

The suggestion that Ibe can replace him at this stage of his career is a joke. Neither will Kovachich.

I wouldn't mind him staying another season even if we get less cash later. Christiano Ronaldo also didn;t want to stay in United after coming back from the world Cup and this incident with Rooney - didn't stop him from being a formidable force next season.

The thing with cashing in is that as last summer showed we don't use the money wisely. Our problem is not that we don't have money to bring big names but that no one of the big names want to come to us.

Let's say we get 40 or even millions who can we bring then that we cannot bring now? Benteke maybe? Even he may prefer to stay in Villa until one of the bigger teams make him an offer next year.

If I am the owners and I feel I have to let him go, I first try to sell him to a non PL team (Rafa said he was interested) and then say he is going only if we get a player for him plus cash. Yaya Toure if it is City, Benzema if Real Madrid. If they don't want to come or the team don't want to release them I keep him for another season. Though to be honest if I had been the owners I would have sacked BR and bring Klopp and then Sterling would have stayed (so he said).

Best Players????? He has POTENTIAL at best. I honestly believe that you are almost certainly going to see another SW Phillips Scenario. This is not sour grapes when I say I and many others will be glad to see the back of him!

13 Jun 2015 12:28:14
i think we should cash in as the ed has stated numerous times he is toxic and to cal him a great star is ludicrous i'm not saying he wouldn't become a great star but the lad lacks attitude and consistency, personally i think him and his agent have burned their bridges at anfield even if jurgen klopp did come in sterling has lost the fans admiration and playing with them getting on his case would be unbearable therefore for him its probably better to get out. imo.

Sterling hasn´t played well for some time now. If a player doesn´t want to play for his club, then he should move on as it affects the other players. Question is, do we want to cash in now and get £30-40M or should we wait to january where he can buy himself free of his contract for approx. £8M?

Yes I would have wanted him to stay, because he has the potential to be even better, but I see no reason to keep a player who has no interest in playing for LFC and if he keeps on playing like he has the last part of the season, then I would suggest that Ibe, Markovic and Milner are better options than he is.

13 Jun 2015 13:02:34
Sterlings star has rose as high as it's going to get, his attitude is wrong, he is easily led, he won't be starter for city. Too many off field distractions. Get rid I suggest

13 Jun 2015 13:12:04
There are two different issues here. One is to say if he doesn't want us we don't him to stay. Fair enough - I don't think he is toxic and will have had any bad impact on the team if stayed but it is true that some of the fans can boo him etc although I am sure it will disapear after his first goal but never mind. But all that I can understand.

what I cannot understand is how once he decided to go so many people here suddenly started to say how poor a player he is. RedFuzz your suggestion that Ibe, Markovich and Milner are better than him, every person in the world who is not an LFC fan and know anything about football will find himself laughing on the floor by this suggestion.A bit like after Suarez left some people here tried to suggest he is not such a great talent or that we shouldn't miss him that badly (and no, of course I don't compare, Suarez is 100 times better player, but so is Sterling compared to Milner and Markovich). I am willing to bet that if Sterling is not injured he will have more assists in City (albeit partly thanks to Aguero) than all of the above three plus Kovachich for us combined. At least if we sell him, we should have got another decent player for him instead for burning the cash on second rate players as we always do.

{Ed001's Note - actually you will find a large number of us thought Ibe was better all along. It is nothing to do with him going in some case, Ibe just is better.}

13 Jun 2015 13:26:09
many have said ibe is better than sterling even before sterling got his chance mate.

13 Jun 2015 13:31:19
And Ojo will be better than both imo .

13 Jun 2015 13:45:11
40 million for a slightly better than the average player, sounds good to me. When was the last time you remember sterling terrorising an opposition defence, smashing in 2/3 goals, creating chance after chance. That's right it doesn't happen.
I went to 30 plus matches last Season and in not one match did sterling set the world on fire, some good contributions up and down the pitch but there were a couple of abysmal performances from the boy who could be great but that will not be with us. Bolasie at Palace to me seems a bette Player, not that I'd want him mind

13 Jun 2015 13:46:06
Sterlings first touch, decision making, and the ability to score sitters has been incredibly poor since the start of this year. Yes he is better than what we have seen for the last 6 months, but what does it matter if he can´t get back to his best (If he really doesn´t want to stay at LFC, then you can´t expect him apply himself a 100%)? At the moment Ibe is better than him, and I think he is on par with Markovic and Milner.

Even Andros Townsend looked better than Sterling the other day.

13 Jun 2015 14:36:34
Ibe has always been the better player at his age the two compare really well to walcott and chamberlain with sterling being Walcott and ibe being ox

13 Jun 2015 14:45:36
Man Utd sold Beckham and Ronaldo.

It's not who you sell which defines your ambition, it's how you replace them.

Sterling is not that good if you watch him closely.

13 Jun 2015 15:22:23
I'm one of those who- even in the season we came second- never rated sterling that highly.
For months I've watched most of his dribbles go nowhere, his endless pauses on the ball slow down an attack, and his weak shots get parried easily by a goalie.
He looks really great at times running down the wing or beating his man for pace, but he seldom delivers any end product.
Most fans think I'm nuts when i've said I think his lack of end product makes him a waste of a red shirt most of the time, but my prediction is that he will flatter to deceive but will eventually get found out at city, and be a bench player.
I've never rated him as anything other than average in the PL, if that.

Where is this negative image we are giving off to the rest of the world coming from?? The fact is that sterling will probably get sold for a fee which liverpool haven't payed for a player in history. does this also give off a negative image of the club? I don't think so. Following on from Ron's point which is a good one Paul pogba a example of a player who man u sold/got rid of that Alex ferguson to this day still says was the right decision. the exact same applies to suarez torres sterling and whoever will leave that doesn't want to be here in the future. If you can get big money for a player who has disrepected the club especially in sterling's case without ever actually deserving to have an ego like he does (bar maybe 6-7 games end of last season maybe) then it's the smart thing to do.

What image would we have if we turned down a huge offer this summer and sterling gets 2 goals and 3 assists next season??

fanobip i thin you miss the point that most here are trying to make, the kid is still learning his trade, he has the potential to be great for the club and have the admiration of all the liverpool fans but its not enough for him, his statements through his agent which he hasn't tried to say are wrong or misquotes are rubbish with the most stupidest one, imo being that the club s ambitions don't match his own, that's rubbish because every club has the ambition to be successful in all competitions. ambitions are dreams and when he asked the club(if he ever did) what re your future ambitions do you think they said oh mid table no trophies and group of unhappy fans, come on the kid wants out and is just peddling rubbish he thinks will make him look a good guy and its back fired on him. We use these rooms/forums for the eds whom i think we all assume have more contacts with the clubs than us we respect them and look for their opinion, so when one of them say the lad is toxic ill accept it we always heard how the kid had loads of off field distractions and baggage, so m8 you may want him to stay but he ain't all he thinks he is and he's far from a great player come back in 5 years see what's he's done or achieved or for that matter behaved.

13 Jun 2015 16:05:05
Here's another way to think about it.

If a player behaved like Sterling at United when Fergie was in charge what would have happened?

Or, if you like, what would Paisley have done?

Exactly.

Let's move on.

13 Jun 2015 16:15:28
I think ibe was meant to come in instead of sterling when Brendan first took ove as he was rated better but it was an injury or age thing if I remember.

I might of just made that all up but I am sure I heard something along them lines

Sterling is a good player but like all who went before him he is just over hyoed because he is British and under 21.

Walcott, oxlade, Barkley, Jeffers, wright-Phillips, a.johnson, downling. There good players but they get this big horrible reputation banged on them they there world class and I don't know wether that plays apart in there development or if they just wernt all that good in the first place.

In general ibe is a better player is all departments, sterling really is a player that if that pace goes hw goes. If ibe losng his pace yes he won't be as gold but he can still finish, better reading of the game, well balanced. Could play the ten role well!

13 Jun 2015 17:01:01
lets talk at the end of the season and compare the statistics of both. I will be very happy to proved wrong. I try not only regarding Sterling but also Suarez and LFC more generally to judge objectively contribution on the pitch regardless of my feelings about what the player said, his agent or my hopes as a fan. I said and argued with few here last summer that suarez is irreplaceble and that Sanchez choosing Arsenal will put them in top 4 and us out of it. I don't compare sterling to them. There are players like Tevez or others that can replace him. Milner, Ibe and Markovich are not the answer IMO. Hope I am wrong.

13 Jun 2015 17:10:03
Fanobip

I've always said ibe will be a better player than sterling.

Sterling played well last season with 2 off the best strikers in the league.

What sterling did for us was bring us speed, which when he 1st came on the scene we where lacking.

As a few have said today I honestly think he could do a Shaun wright Philips. He got to big for his boots went to Chelsea and ended his career.
