Hi Ed's
Sky is reporting that Stoke have had a 12mil bid accepted for Shaqiri. Is there any interest from Liverpool because we've been linked in the past and he is a quality player. Also have we had any interest in our fringe players as we will soon have to sell the likes of Enrique, Coates, Borni, Lambert, Yesil, etc.

Cheers

{Ed002's Note - No. Liverpool cannot by every player who is sold.}

We certainly seem to try to Ed002. Think we've bough near enough a new team every season under Rodgers seems like.

Shaqiri must be doing something wrong as he's been at 2 top clubs and yet nobody seems to want him.

Also i hope we give Yesil a loan where he plays regularly and hopefully keeps himself fit as he is a really good player that unfortunately has been hampered by injures.

Also Coates has been sold.

It's a bit of a myth that we buy a new team each season because not all the signings are ever meant to be starters or even essential first team squad members. And other clubs often have similar staff turnovers.

Spurs are the most similar team in terms of being a challenger to the 4 teams most likely to occupy CL places.

Like us they bought 7/8 players in each of previous two seasons. Like us they had to try and add depth to their squad and get the average age down off the back of selling their star player.

I'd argue our purchases will prove to be far better in the short and the long run.

From the last 2 seasons signings (and not including this summer) we have Mignolet, Sakho, Toure, Lovren, Moreno, Can, Lallana, Markovich, Origi & possibly Ilori as players with a role in our squad this season. Aspas, Alberto, Lambert & Balotelli do not seem to have a future (possible 20m write down on fees)

Spurs will have Vorm, Dier, Davies, Fazio, Chadli, Eriksen & Lamela as squad definites but question marks about Soldado, Paulinho, Capoue, Stromboli & Chiriches (possible 35-40m write down on fees)

Obviously Spurs finished above us last season but I can't see them doing it again for a few years given the relative depth of quality in our squads. Our business this summer seems to be at a level above anything Spurs can match although we are obviously losing a very good young footballer with huge potential to part fund it all.

There'll be a similar turnover of players at Man Utd over a 2-3 year period. They're buying more established players but how many real hits have they had?

On the plus side you'd expect our business to slow next season. We should really only be bringing loan players like Ilori or Gomez back in to cover Toures spot, replacing Enrique and adding 1 or 2 quality players to cover the areas we need to strengthen based on what happens this season.

Stromboli is a meaty, juicy, cheesy concoction. Stambouli is a former Montepellier midfielder. (I do realize you are not the first to call him Stromboli).

Other than that, stop with the financial comparisons.

Spurs are who we should be worried about if we want EL. If we want CL we need to be conscious about what those teams are doing. They are settled teams Just adding key players with the exception of man utd who are buying a big squad of established players. Spurs still don't know their best team and neither do we. Adding 8 players a season doesn't help that.

Stromboli was also the evil circus-master in Pinnochio. I played him in the school play !!
