All the debate at the minute seems to be focusing on the new/potential signings but one thing seems to have been forgotten. We've lost our captain. Now I'd like to know what sort of impact the Edds and fellow reds think this will have on our season as I personally think it could be huge. Not having him in the dressing room may effect the players especially half time when we're up against it.

{Ed007's Note - I think it will breathe new life into the team. The club as a whole can move on from what was becoming a mill stone round their neck in the same way Fergie was at Utd, people in general are scared of change but sometimes it's just for the best.
That's not meant as a dig at Gerrard btw, just an observation about over powering figures at clubs and their effect, it becomes about them rather than the team, ask Ed001 how I felt about Neil Lennon for his last 18 months at Celtic.
I wouldn't worry about what goes on in the dressing room, someone will step up to the plate and maybe add a fresh outlook or approach.
P.s. I've got 349 Neil Lennon calendars for sale at £1.99 each, if you don't buy them we'll need to use them as prizes in competitions.}

and maybe instead of everyone giving the ball to Gerrard, someone else will step up. I remember Henderson performing really well without Gerrard. He does have good passes in him.

Time will tell chaps, football moves on and Gerard simply WAsnt the force he previously was, lacked pace, power of old.I remember seeing him try to chase people down at times last season and being to slow to get to them, sad to see.he could still plonk in a good free_kick though.I think the bogdan transfer was a mistake, I don't think he is good enough to put pressure on migs or as a replacement, the rest have been good though.I would have liked Jackson Martinez,lacazette also but previously wasn't up for benteke,i thought we needed a runner with the ball, pace, trickery and could beat a man as well as score but a lot of what 'god' said was right and if that's the way it goes maybe benteke may do well.have reservations though, movement is key and him getting his head right to do it every week.

Many of our players performed well without Gerrard in the team.

Boss Captain but a hindrance at times.

Maybe that's a reflection of the mentality of the players he played alongside, but I always got the impression many were too frightened to express them selves.

Not a criticism of Gerrard, but he did have much power at the club, which sometimes goes beyond a Captains role.

I think Gerrards departure will have a positive effect.
We will be more mobile in midfield, our defence won't be all over the place, players won't "have" to pass it to him at every opportunity, players might be more creative and play with more freedom.
I think your overestimating his influence in the dressing room, he was a leader on the pitch but I remember Gerrard doing everything on his own and not so much getting the rest of the team to up there own games. Just barked at them all the time lol
Met him many times and he doesn't exactly inspire me with his words, he's very miserable and not approachable in person.
Henderson will be a very different captain to Gerrard but just as good in different ways.

Ed007, I'm not sure comparing the situation to fergie leaving united is helpful? They've been poor since he's gone!

{Ed007's Note - Maybe Liverpool will get relegated then.}

We played much better when SG doesn't play so IMO, we already moved on from him way before now and that in itself shows that his presence was a ball and chain around the squad's ankle.
