What impact does having no Gerrard have on the team next season? Will we be better?

absolutely nothing no disrespect for gerrard but his been poor the last two seasons

I agree matey just was thinking maybe influence wise. Maybe the players have more freedom and will finally step up.

I think as long as there are characters in the team that can demand respect to keep the younger team members pulling in the same direction and not let their egos get the better of them then we'll be OK. Hendo/Milner/Lucas and perhaps also Sakho/Skrtel all fit that mould for me so we'll be fine.

Gerrard may have scored a fair few goals last season, but to base his importance on mainly penalties and goals against lesser opposition such as Leicester and Wimbledon is silly.

He was injured for a period which allowed Rodgers to partner Lucas and Henderson in midfield. During that time we went on an 11 game unbeaten run did we not?

So whilst I still think Gerrard had enough to be an attacking impact sub for us, his status prevented him from being dropped to a bit part role and that was holding us back. He has never been a good central midfielder. He was good on the right, and he was good in the No.10 role. In Central midfield he's always been a headless chicken. He just had the legs to make up for his poor positional awareness in his early career.

It's a shame he became to powerful really because I'd love to have him as an option on the bench for next season.

Gerrard brings an X factor on the pitch, you like it not not . Whether he is 20 or 35.

Gerrard became bigger than the club imo and had to go. The team was always in his shadow and he held us back. We'll play much better without him now.

Gerrard has never been a good Centre mid, dear god

05 Jul 2015 12:25:31
Fencey, a prime example is Istanbul. Gerrard was getting ruined by Kaka, then he got pushed forward to accommodate Didi and the game was changed because Didi offered much more composure and stability in midfield and Gerrard had the freedom to get forward into the box which directly aided 2 of our 3 goals.

Gerrard simply isn't and never has been a central midfielder. The best days of his career were in attacking roles with Xabi and Masch behind him.

Agree with you Ed02, As he couldn't settle in England just like Salah and many more players.
We should have never been in this situation as you said, we should have looked at Pedro last summer, not an out and out striker but a goal scoring player.

No one knows what affect not having Gerrard in and around the team will have until the season starts.

You would hope the likes of Hendo, Milner, Lallana will step up and have more influence on the squad now he has left.

Hopefully the tour will allow the next natural leader come to the forefront
